It is a fact that Google is the craze right now, but keep in mind the other search engines. I recollect when it was time Yahoo was the top search engine and before that it was Altavista on top. I wonder where that has gone. It is bizarre to know that Yahoo search engine has been completely dominated by other engines. This is not the complete truth. Due to metasearch engines, the Yahoo engine is still significant. Many use this metasearch tools, such as dogpile.

If you wish your site to rank high it should be objectionable to rank high wit yahoo or any other search engine. Tools exist on the Yahoo engine to enhance the ranking of your website and if you happen to run a web based bsiness, they can be of high amount of assistance to make your ratings rise higher like a bird!

Yahoo search engine is not my personal choice when compared to Google. I have reasons for this choice.I found this site very helpful http://www.commcloset.com. Google sorts out spam and other junk in an efficient manner and provides you quality hits as compared to Yahoo search engine. Its better to avoid Yahoo search engine if you wish not to browse through a host of spam. No one has time to waste on junk. This is the reason why Google is doing better than Yahoo.

I have even heard somewhere that Yahoo search engine actually allows people to pay to increase their rating on the site. This is not advertising I am referring to. Google has them and so does every other engine, its not a big deal. You can tell by the way the ads are put up and some of them might be of help to you. But if Yahoo is the search engine of your choice then it becomes an entirely different issue.

You will have to wade your way through a whole lot of paid ads that are intelligently mixed with the valid results from the search you requested. Although other services Yahoo offers are good, for instance, Yahoo maps is the best direction service as per my opinion, yet when it comes to a search engine they are lousy at it and it is only the search engine that I am concerned about. <bio>Ron Electrick loves working with the following sites: http://www.informationinquiry.com http://www.sciencecanbefun.com </bio>

When optimizing your website for the search engines, you really have three choices on which one to optimize for =96 Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Each search engine has certain criteria that is emphasized more and the factors that help you rank well differ from search engine to search engine.

For example, do a search for the term "sports" and you'll find that ESPN holds the top spot in Google, while Yahoo! Sports holds the top spot in Yahoo and Fox Sports holds the top spot in MSN.

Of course, then again, if you do a search for "hotels", you'll find that http://hotels.com has the top spot in all three search engines.

So what's a person to do when optimizing their websites?

My advice is to focus your attention on optimizing your website to rank well in Google. Yahoo and MSN combined don't send as much traffic as Google will if you hold the top spot. Since Google gets nearly half (about 49%) of ALL search engine traffic, it's makes sense that you'd want to focus your efforts on Google.

Also, since Google has the reputation for providing the most relevant results, Yahoo and MSN tend to always be playing catch up. So what's working well in Google will likely work for both Yahoo and MSN.

However, if you optimize for just Yahoo or MSN, you're not likely to rank as well in Google.

One thing I also like about Google is how fast they're currently updating their index. You can get a website up, get a few links, and be indexed in less than a week. Yahoo and MSN tend to be a lot slower in getting your website indexed. Also, the rankings change less often in Yahoo and MSN, which is great if you hold the top ranking, but not so great when you're trying to climb up in the rankings. With Google's frequently updating index, you get more feedback on how well your search engine optimization efforts are paying off. <bio>Gary Ruplinger is a search engine optimization expert.
A lot has been said about getting higher rankings in Google, and virtual space is literally overflowing with information detailing how you should make website submissions to Google, get a higher Pagerank and higher Google rankings ad infinitum. However, in the bargain of submitting to Google, many webmasters forget the second most important search engine on the internet--Yahoo. When it comes to people looking for certain information and products, then Yahoo also has a dedicated clientele that cannot be ignored when making search engine submissions. A small yet comprehensive guide about getting listed in Yahoo is as follows:

• The first thing that you need to do before you submit to Yahoo is to analyze whether your webpage actually has original and valuable content. Pages that focus on human beings rather than search engines are appreciated by Yahoo and as a result, you will rank higher if you provide good content interspersed with useful hyperlinks and accurate meta tags.

• The key to getting higher rankings in Yahoo search results is to submit your webpage to the most apt category available. When making website submissions to Yahoo, make it a point to locate the correct category for your website, since this would help in getting your site listed quickly and easily.

• When making web site submissions to Yahoo or even when making other search engine submissions, make it a point to adhere to all their rules and regulations. Search engines can afford to be quite pricey and ignoring a small rule or by rule can get your site blacklisted.

• A particular idiosyncrasy related to Yahoo is that the search engine condemns the use of promotional copy on websites. As a result, you might face problems getting your site listed if it is full of promotional words like best, cheapest and unrivalled when making web site submissions to Yahoo.

• Most search engine bots have become quite savvy and are undoubtedly becoming savvier by the day. Avoid keyword stuffing on your site since this will only create problems for getting your sites listed with search engines. Make sure that you have a low keyword density and that your text makes sense to human beings before making search engine submissions.

• When making search engine submissions to Yahoo, you will need to provide them with correct information since the provision of any kind of misinformation regarding your business; its policies and procedures will be taken as fraud. So be doubly careful while filling out search engine submission forms and double check the information that you provide to prevent any future problems.

• Yahoo requires that you provide them with a physical business address, instead of just a mailing one. This is a good thing too since it keeps scammers out.

• Remember that your site will not be looked upon favorably if you have links on link farms and if you have resorted to paid linking. The same case applies if you have your back links on sites that are blacklisted. Excessive keyword stuffing and content duplication will also lead you nowhere when you are making search engine submissions. Apart from these, you should also avoid using any cloaking techniques or methods that will temporarily inflate your search engine rankings, and hopefully, you will be able to make search engine submissions that get you high search engine rankings in Yahoo.<bio>Terry is the owner of one of the Internet's most popular site promotion websites - www.iSellPagerank.com.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a part of search engine marketing (SEM) and it requires complete understanding of search engine algorithms and their workings. Today almost all webmasters are performing search engine optimisation methods to improve websites, so that the visibility of the website is improved when a search is performed with a related keyword. If a website is ranking higher for specific search results, it will deliver high volumes of traffic to the website. The traffic delivered through natural search engine queries is high quality traffic and it is also known as organic traffic.

Before starting SEO services, the search algorithms used by various search engines for indexing the web pages should be well understood. Search engines generally start spidering the website once the website is registered at the search engine, for inclusion in the search results. If a website has unique content and the contents are written, keeping in mind the search engine algorithms, the web pages will probably get indexed more easily and at the same time it should be ensured that these contents are useful for the general public, so more and more visitors come to the pages again and again.

Search engine optimisation not only requires changes and regular updates in valuable content, but sometimes it might also require changes in the actual website design and source coding. The most advanced search engines use crawlers for finding web pages that meet their algorithms criteria. These search engines include Google and Yahoo, however Yahoo also has paid inclusion that guarantees crawling and page indexing of the website for a fixed fee or a fixed amount per click. Yahoo has a paid inclusion program however it is still not preferred by many advertisers. Google does not have any such program so far, however Google sitemaps allows free submission of XML type feed for indexing those web pages which are not automatically indexed.

Search engine optimisation is a process to divert more organic or natural traffic to a particular website; however it is more difficult and confusing. There are a number of processes required that should have been tried to increase the visibility of the website and some of the more common useful processes include excellent website design, analysis and selection of suitable, relevant keywords, well written fresh content and good meta tags.

Search engines love fresh content, therefore you should ensure that you keep the content updated by adding to it regularly, so that search engines spider your site more regularly. There are various guidelines provided by a number of search engines about what to do and what not to do and you should follow these guidelines to stand a chance against all the competition on the internet.

Robots.txt files are the first file crawled by search engine crawlers and after parsing it, the search engine crawler follows the instructions provided there. Internet marketing can be a tough task and SEO experts have to not only increase organic traffic, but also meet search engine expectations and keep up-to-date with the constantly changing algorithms.<bio>Use search engine optimisation to get top rankings on Google, Yahoo and MSN search engine optimisation</bio>

Want to get into the top 5 of either Google or Yahoo? Make sure your website contains the top 10 factors for deciding a top search engine ranking.

It does not matter if you have the cure for cancer, if nobody knows about it you are not going to make any money. A top search engine ranking in either Google or Yahoo is the surest way for buyers to find your products so you can become a wealthy marketer. Google and Yahoo are responsible for about 80% of all search engine traffic in the world.

Make sure your online business or website contains these top 10 factors used for determining sites with a top 5 search engine ranking in Google and Yahoo.

Factor #1: Number of Quality Sites that Link to Yours

Google and Yahoo put a lot of significance on how many quality sites link back to yours with a page rank of at least 4 and above. This is probably the most important factor when considering a top search engine ranking.

When search engines see lots of important sites link back to yours it must mean that your site is also pretty important.

Remember the purpose of the internet is to provide information back to the end user. As someone is conducting research on the World Wide Web, sites must also participate and flow and connect to other related sites allowing those searching for your keyword terms various paths to the information being inquired.

Factor #2: Number of Pages Your Website Has

A website with less than 50 pages is really going to struggle to get a top search engine ranking unless it has more quality back links coming into it than their competitors.

Factor #3: Keywords in Your Title Tag

Google and Yahoo look to see if your keywords are contained in your page title and description. Make sure your keywords are also listed within your heading and subheading tags.

Factor #4: Keywords Showing in Links

Keywords that are highlighted within a link are considered more significant than those not at all highlighted within a link.

Factor #5: Keywords in Bold

Likewise words in bold are also considered more important than those not in bold.

Factor #6: Keywords in URL

Websites that are in less competitive markets that contain the keywords within their URL are considered more important than those sites that respectively do not.

Also keywords in the URL that come before unrelated words are considered better than a URL that follows an unrelated word within the URL. For example if your keyword is televisions, a URL with `televisions' followed by unrelated words such as your name `Mike' is better than putting your name `Mike' before `televisions.'

Factor #7: More Significance Given to First 25 Words on Page

The first 25 words of each page are given more weight than all other words on the page. Make sure your keywords are in the first few words of your page. However, if you try and just list the same word or phrase 25 times repeatedly Google and Yahoo will penalize you.

Factor #8: Greater Than 300 Words on Your Homepage

Make sure you have at least 300 or more words on your homepage.

Factor #9: Keyword Density

Keyword density is not as important as it once was in the past but it still is an important factor. In order to get a top 5 search engine ranking look at your competitors sites and compare the density of their sites to yours and try and match their density.

Factor #10: Page Rank

Want to find out the page rank of your website or the page rank of another site? Download the Google toolbar and make sure the page rank indicator is activated. One major factor in determining your page rank is the first factor listed in this article. Quality back links are the most important factor for formulating your page rank.

A top search engine ranking in Google and Yahoo is decided most often by the combination of these 10 factors. If you want to get into the top 5 of the two most important search engines than make sure your website applies these major search engine ranking factors. <bio>Tim McGaffin has helped many online businesses acheive their financial goals.
Bloggers often ask how to get their blog listed in the major search engines.

Here's how:

1. Submit Directly: Submit your blog via Google's free submitting form. http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

2. Submit your sitemap to Google. http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/

3. Submit your site to DMOZ, the Open Directory Project. Keep in mind that http://DMOZ.com is run by volunteers; therefore it may take some time before you are listed and a submission does not guarantee listing.

4. Get a Qualified Backlink: Get linked from a website that search engines crawl regularly and add your link to forum signatures. Google states, "Google's robots jump from page to page on the web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to your pages, the more likely it is that we'll find them quickly."

5. If your blog isn't already listed in Google's Blog search engine, you can submit it manually. Add your blog to Google's Blog Search. http://blogsearch.google.com/ping

It usually takes a new website about a month before it's fully indexed by Google. Google Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds, so be sure that you publish a site feed.

Keep in mind that, while Google dominates the web, it isn't the only search engine on the web.

Yahoo Search is one of the major search engines and directories online as well, so you are going to want to submit your blog to Yahoo's Directory. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/add?17051064

It could take eight to ten weeks before you are listed in Yahoo.

Yahoo Site Explorer allows you to explore all the web pages indexed by Yahoo Search. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

Submit your blog to Yahoo Site Explorer. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

Submit Your Feed to the Yahoo!
Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, is one of the new buzz phrases that is being tossed around on the internet. You see more and more web administrators seeking employees who have experience with SEO and know how to implement SEO techniques. So what is SEO? Why do we use Search Engine Optimisation Services in the UK?

Search Engine Optimisation is, basically, a way in which people try to improve the quality and volume of visitors to their websites from search engine search results. It is used as a way of promoting websites by pushing them higher in search engine ranks. It works by using a variety of "keywords" that grab the attention of search engine spiders that regularly crawl the internet looking for new content. The more visitors a person has to his site by clicking on a search result, the higher the site will rise in the ranks of the search engine. The goal among most web masters is to make it on to the front page of Google (or Yahoo, etc).

While it is certainly relevant to learn all you can about Search Engine Optimisation, if you are just starting to build your website, it is in your best interest to employ a Search Engine Optimisation Service. These services can help you add content to your site that is guaranteed to catch the eye of the various search engine spiders crawling your site and they know about the different SEO marketing methods that will work best for the central subject of your website.

Here are some of the reasons to use a Search Engine Optimisation Service in the UK:

Search Engine Optimisation services can usually point you to a proven track record of success. These businesses are not operating on a system of trial and error like you will be when you are first learning. They know what gets the spiders to notice a site and they will make sure that yours gets noticed.

They are time savers. You are trying to market your new site and trying to get the word out about your site. All the while you are trying to come up with content for your site that is original and fresh. By employing one of the search engine optimisation services you are free to run the website without worrying how the search engines will notice it.

Sometimes the search engine optimisation service is also skilled at internet marketing as well and can help you promote and drive traffic to your website from other venues as well as from the search engines.

If you are looking for something on the internet, the best way to find it is to use a search engine to help you find it. If you have a website or are offering a service via the web, you want to make sure that your site is as high as possible in the search engine rankings to ensure a high traffic flow to your site. Using a Search Engine Optimisation Service in the UK is the best way to make sure this happens, especially if you do not have any experience in SEO. <bio>Derek Rogers is a freelance writer who represents a number of UK businesses. For Search Engine Optimisation, he recommends Impact Media Ltd, one of the UK's leading suppliers of Search Engine Optimisation Services: http://www.impactmedialtd.co.uk </bio>

Search engine optimization is something you are going to need if you want to be successful with an online business. It is one of the best forms of website promotion available. There are so many businesses online, that you have to have a superior ranking with a search engine in order to get customers in your virtual door. To do that, your search engine optimization has to be perfect. Without it, the other guy will be getting all the business.

You can have the best looking, most informative web page on the Internet, but if no one knows about it, you won't get any customers and your business will suffer. One key strategy to bringing in traffic to your website is search engine optimization. Basically, users type a keyword or phrase into a search engine and potentially thousands of web pages may pop up. But you don't want your prospective customers to have to look four, five or even ten pages deep into the search results to find your page.

To know how to best go about optimizing your page for a search engine, you first need to know how search engine optimization works. It helps to know for what keywords a typical user will be searching. Some website owners help improve their ranking in search engines by changing the page's coding or structure, so the actual work to make the page more optimized all happens behind the scenes. The user visiting won't actually notice changes on the page. Other website owners choose to optimize their page with unique content. This helps the placement of their web page when someone is searching with a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. The unique content is easily indexed.

It is also wise to use directory submission, that is, submit your web page with different directories such as Yahoo. This can also bring traffic into your website. To do this, just search for the site's directory submission page, enter your URL, website name, keywords or phrases, and a brief description and submit it.

Once you get the customers into your site, if it is well done and informative, they will want to add URL to their bookmarks so they can visit again. Just remember that website optimization is a key part of your Internet marketing and business success. <bio>You can hire a web professional to help optimize your web page, but you can also easily learn to do it yourself. That way, if you ever need to change keywords or phrases or add new content, you don't have to reply on anyone else. Most people aren't willing to share search engine secrets, but you can learn more about search engine optimization by looking at the free 90 page report written by Ramiro Trevino at http://www.onlyvalueinfo.com/seo.pdf (Right click on the link and choose "Save Target As" to save to your desktop for easy reading.) Ramiro is a writer, online entrepreneur, and real estate investor who can teach you how to use search engine optimization so it will benefit you and your business. </bio>

Marketing is a source for big income in the Internet. Because of the powers that advertising possesses especially with a highly directed method that the Internet can offer, there is a bigger possibility that Internet ads will meet more success. For example, a person who is looking for a new computer and sees an ad for an online store offering a sale on computers will most likely click on the ad. Very few ads in other media can seek to approximate this demand-specific distribution of ads. This is also the reason why there is a growing influx of companies -- both big and small -- that are allotting more budget towards Internet advertising. Consequently, more and more websites or publishers are also wanting to get in on the action because the click-throughs will mean big money for them for a very minimal effort.

There are many programs that have emerged online that seek to help web publishers take advantage of the revenue opportunities in advertising.

Yahoo.com, one of the search engine pioneers and a formidable force in the Internet industry, recently announced a new program that would enable web publishers gain more in terms of the benefits of pay for performance or pay-per-click advertising. The program, called Yahoo! Search Marketing, makes advertising on the Internet easier and more manageable to handle.

Yahoo! Search Marketing is based on the technologies and research used by Overture Services, Inc., otherwise known as http://GoTo.com -- one of the first search engines that was able to include paid ads in its results. In 2003, Yahoo! acquired Overture and turned it into a fully owned subsidiary tasked to become the backbone for the whole search engine advertising or Pay-for-Performance setup. Overture's innovative solutions with regards to advertising in search engines has been a great influence on other search engines since they have also come out with their own programs using the principles set by Overture, among them Google's AdSense.

With the Yahoo! Search Marketing pay-per-performance program, publishers bid on search terms or keywords (this could be words, phrases, or a combination of both). The winning bidder's web page is then placed in the search engine results for those keywords, with the position being related to the amount that was bid for the said keywords. This function is part of Yahoo! Search Marketing's Sponsored Search feature, that makes advertising in Yahoo! so much more powerful and effective. The various features included in Sponsored Search allows you to not only control the position of your website in keyword searches, you can also set your own price per click and pay only when people actually click the link to your website.

This is a far more effective way of getting more visitors to go to your web page. First of all, Overture offers a far wider reach compared to other competitors, especially Google. Overture's reach extends not only to Yahoo but also to AltaVista, CNN and Infospace, among others. The reporting function is also more intuitive now and far more complete in terms of searching for the effectiveness of certain keywords. <bio>For more information please visit http://www.theinternetone.net </bio>

If you've hung around in the search engine optimization industry (a.k.a. SEO industry) very long, you've probably heard the debate on ethical SEO tactics. Or, as it is often put, white hat tactics versus black hat tactics.

What exactly makes a search engine optimization tactic ethical or unethical? According to the dictionary, an ethical practice is one "conforming to accepted standards of social or professional behavior". For search engine optimization, I believe that we should get at least some of the "accepted standards" from the search engines themselves.

Some SEO experts would interject that the search engines don't want search engine optimizers to exist at all, so if we ask the search engines, all search engine optimization is unethical. That's not true, though. Google itself says that "Many SEOs provide useful services for website owners...However, a few unethical SEOs have given the industry a black eye."

So...what makes an unethical SEO? Once again, Google has an opinion on the subject: "Avoid tricks ...to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you."

Perhaps a better way to put it would be this: You've gotten a phone call from Sam, who is a Google search results quality enforcement officer. He says: "John, I see that you are ranked #1 on the keyword xyz. I want to be sure that you did this in an ethical manner. What methods did you use?" If you feel comfortable telling Google how you got top ranked, then you're probably OK.

Of course, those are only general guidelines. Read the Google and Yahoo webmaster guidelines. You'll find many specifics. You'll also find that the golden rule of of ethical search engine optimization is: "Don't do anything to trick the search engines, or to represent your pages differently to the search engines than you do your human visitors." <bio>Visit the David Williams Corporation for your Ethical Search Engine Optimization needs! http://www.davidwilliamsonline.com/ </bio>

Many people claim that there is no such a thing as Sandbox in Google and Yahoo. Google's representative even came out and denied the `Sandbox' concept. Sandbox effect is just too obvious to deny. They are just playing the words. Yes you can say that there is no such thing as a `Sandbox', but there is a fact that new websites don't rank well in competitive keywords. So, the `Yes' or `No' answer is really depends on the definition of what a `Sandbox' is.

In the SEO industry, almost everyone knows a newly registered domain doesn't rank well in competitive keywords. These new baby websites can still rank well or even become number one search result in some niche keyword phrases. A little earlier I talked about how to have a Google Sandbox escape in the other article, now I would like to talk about Yahoo Sandbox escape to help new websites to rank well in competitive terms.

Google is more machine based, so what you need is to play with their algorithm. Yahoo is a relatively more commercial search engine. As you can notice their search result has more commercial sites on the top 10 results while Google has more non-commercial sites. Although Yahoo heavily relies on the machine to get the search result, it still manually changes the results to reach Yahoo's best interested. In the contrast, Google almost totally reply on its calculations and data without manual input on getting the search results. So when you search for `search engine', Google does not appear as the number one in their own result!

For a Yahoo Sandbox escape, you might need to spend some money on there directories. Although Yahoo directories are not appearing in the Yahoo front page anymore, people still use it for search. And the greatest thing about directory listing is that you can almost immediately (a few days) jump from number 260 to top 20 for a competitive keyword after your site is included in their directories. And you actually get real traffic from these listings. The directory would give you not only one link but at least 8 links. For example, you are listed in `oil painting' category. You would be listed in oil painting category of Yahoo US, Australia, Canada, India, Philippine=85 For Yahoo, you know you are a VIP because you will rank exceptionally well compare to your competitors with the same amount of back links.

What frustrates me is your title and description in Yahoo search will be changed. Yahoo stuff would manually make a title and description for your page. And your title would often appear to be your domain name. If your domain name doesn't have anything to do with your content topic, the searcher might not click into your site even though you are the top search result. What can you do? After you have build a lot of quality back links and your site has grown old, you cancel the listing. <bio>Please feel free to use my content and give credits by linking back to us with anchor texts. Add URL Yahoo http://www.featurings.com , SEM http://www.itotals.com , http://www.fiofio.com </bio>

Visit Google, Yahoo, MSN or one of the lesser search engines, and you get a few million results for just about any search term. Despite this impressive depth of results, most users consider only a few of the WebPages being pointed to. A lot of research indicates that most searchers exit search engine result pages to visit one of the top three results. That raises the question: What about the remaining million plus results? Are they all worthless in the labyrinth of the Internet? Or are they snared by the constraints of the algorithms that search engines use. Surely there can be better results than the ones dished out to us.

WE NEED A SEARCH-ENGINE TO SEARCH SEARCH-ENGINE RESULTS!

Based on the above premise, I set out on a mission to simplify search engine results. But, try as I might, I could not find an automated method to simplify search engine results. I think that is logical, otherwise these multi-billion dollar behemoths would have done so themselves. So, I thought: What is that one thing that I can do which the Googles and Yahoos of the world cannot do. And the quick answer was: I can use human / personal discretion in choosing search results. This would bypass the legion of search engine optimizers who keep building link popularity to rise up in search pages.

CAN HUMAN SELECTED SEARCH RESULTS BEAT ALGORITHM SELECTED SEARCH RESULTS?

Tough to say, but you can look for yourself. Compare the Google results for Hair Removal (http://www.google.com/search?hl=enandq=Hair+Removal) and my selected results for Hair Removal (http://www.human-search-engine.com/6.html). There is some overlap, but the results that I display are a result of my personal visit to the listed pages.

CONCLUSIONS

As search engines become better and faster, there is a need for a human touch to search results. In this constant struggle between spammy (scammy?) search engine optimizers and search engine engineers, the searcher can be the victim. <bio>Ajeet Khurana, a dog lover, publishes Dog Training articles at http://www.dog-obedience.net.
Wouldn't it be great if you could pay for advertising based only on your results, choose the people you advertise to, and customize your ads for each group of people who might see them? If you're using newspaper, radio or other traditional media, you just can't do this kind of targeting and customizing. But with Yahoo Search Marketing, targeting the people you want with the ads they want is built right in.

Yahoo Search Marketing allows you to display ads on search results pages when people search for your keywords. You choose the keywords, and you determine how much you will pay for each click. You only pay if someone clicks on your ad and visits your site, and you are in complete control of your keywords, your ad, and your budget. Traditional advertising can't offer this; Yahoo Search Marketing can.

The first thing you'll need to do when you set up your advertising campaign is choose keywords. Yahoo Search Marketing helps you choose keywords and keyword phrases based on your web site and suggestions you enter. You choose your maximum bid for each keyword, and you can set up different ads for different keywords to improve your targeting. You are in complete control at all times.

One great feature of Yahoo Search Marketing is that it makes local advertising on the Internet very easy and affordable. You can choose geographical areas you want to advertise to, and Yahoo sends your ads only to their visitors in those areas. This means that you will not get clicks from people who can't do business with you; your ads will be targeted to your local area and bring in local visitors who can, and will, use your products or services.

Traditional advertising has always been a game of chance. You pay your money and you takes your chances, and you hope that the right people will see your ads at the right time and act on them. With newspaper and broadcast ads, there simply is no way to make sure that you're advertising to people who want what you offer, when they're considering a purchase. Yahoo Search Marketing can do all of that and more.

You see, when you advertise on search engine results pages, you are literally advertising to people who are ready to make a decision and a purchase. They've searched for your keywords, so you know they're looking for you. They just don't know it yet. And you're paying only for actual visitors to your web site, so you know you're not paying for "junk traffic," people who aren't even interested in what you're offering. And you control the budget, so you know exactly how much you're spending on marketing, and you can increase or decrease your budget at any time.

Yahoo Search Marketing has been improving their search platform for quite some time now. The system they have created is somewhat different than Google Adwords, however it does show promise and handles a decent amount of website traffic to make YSM worthwile looking at. In my eyes, Yahoo Search Marketing is a proven winner!<bio>Russell Blanc manages a website about yahoo web hosting and yahoo search marketing.</bio>

Search engine optimization, also known simply as SEO, is the practice of improving a web site's ranking in Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines. The goal of SEO is to optimize a web site (on and off the page) so that it ranks well for a specific set of keywords. Although this may seem like a simple enough task, it is actually a very complicated and challenging one. Not only do you have to compete against other web sites, but you also have to deal with the search engines. Every major search engine has a different algorithm, and what may improve your ranking in one search engine could potentially lower your ranking in another one. Although there are many factors and practices within the search engine optimization community, here are some of the more common on page search engine optimization techniques:

Meta Tags-Although they used to carry much more weight, meta tags should still be optimized as a part of basic on page search engine optimization. Every web page on your web site should contain a unique meta description, along with several meta keywords which describe the content of the web page. SEOs should avoid "stuffing" meta tags. Stuffing meta tags is the practice of using tons of meta tags on one page. Although this used to be considered a "Black Hat" technique, it is now nothing more than a foolish attempt at improving your search engine ranking.

Header Tags-H1 and H2 tags should be optimized in the same fashion as the meta tags. If possible, the header tags should be slightly different than the meta tags. However, they should still contain the same important keywords that you want your web page to rank well for.

Out of all the on page SEO factors, the most important is original content. When writing content, try to write in a normal conversational tone instead of writing systematically for the search engines. <bio>Will the author's blog rank for http://tylerbanfield.com/blog or andbielf? </bio>

SEO and SEM are two terms that are commonly bandied about by webmasters. Sometimes it seems as if the two terms are used almost interchangeably. But is there a difference, and if so, what is it?

In fact, there is a difference. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It refers to anything you do to your page to make it more search engine friendly. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. It forms a sort of umbrella term that can refer to anything you do to get your page ranked higher in search engines, from search engine optimization to requesting backlinks to submitting your URL to search engines.

It's important to know the difference between the two when you're shopping for SEO or SEM services. If the company doesn't specify what services it offers as part of its "SEM Package," then don't hesitate to ask. And don't hand over any money until you know! Some companies may mean nothing more than submitting your website's URL to a few search engines, and you can do that yourself.

Whenever possible, get a list of specific things they plan to do to help surfers find your website. Will they submit your URL to search engines? Get a list of the search engines they plan to submit it to. ("Yahoo!, Google, and 100's More!" doesn't count.) Will they keyword optimize your site? Be sure to ask if they include META and ALT tags.

Ultimately, whether a company uses "SEO" or "SEM" doesn't matter as much as what services they offer. Ideally, SEM would be more valuable than SEO, because it would include SEO as well as other marketing strategies. But this is not always the case. As we've noted before, it can be simply a code for "stick your URL is a few search engines and be done with it." Look for reputable websites, and ask for specific services they offer. Once you've done your homework, you will be able to make an informed decision between SEO and SEM and march forward proudly, knowing that you truly got the best value for your money. <bio>For more information visit http://www.ocitservices.com Orange County Website Design Search Engine Optimization Firm Simplifying The WEB </bio>

It always helps to know about search engine marketing before you launch your internet marketing campaign. Here are some must know facts!

With millions of websites available on the Internet and more being added almost daily, the only way for people to find what they need online is through the use of search engines. People rely on search engines the way early sailors relied on the stars -- they'd literally be lost without them. The good news about this fact is that people's reliance on these tools has made search engine marketing a popular and affordable way to boost traffic to your site and to increase your revenue.

A Couple of Facts

Before you start search engine marketing, you should realize why it works. First, research studies and reports form webmasters have shown that between 80 to 95% of their site's visitors come from search engines. What usually makes the difference is whether or not the owner of the site does any additional marketing, such as direct mail, that might also attract visitors. That says even if you are doing other marketing methods you could be getting a lot more traffic if you concentrated on search engine marketing.

Second, people typically use the same main search engines for all of their efforts. The largest is Google. Nearly one-third of every single person on the Internet uses Google for their searches. That's a lot of people. Yahoo and MSN are, of course, in second and third places with respectable percentages of their own: 29% and 27%, respectively. This information tells you that you absolutely should be doing some type of search engine marketing for your site and that you need to focus your efforts on Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

What is Search Engine Marketing?

If you're not familiar with search engine marketing, let's start at the beginning. Basically, you're using search engines for the purpose of driving traffic to your site which is the main idea of the engines. However, you are taking extra steps to ensure that you gain access to the largest audience of potential customers possible. For example, SEO is a huge part of search engine marketing. SEO means developing content around particular keywords which are chosen because they are likely to be ones searched for by possible leads.

Search engine marketing also sometimes involves pay per click marketing. For example, you choose a keyword and agree to pay a set price each time someone clicks on your link when they find your site after searching for that keyword. The more you pay, the higher your site ranks in the results. Because you are paying, you get placed in a more prominent position in the results which gives you an advantage. Plus, you only pay for results which is definitely a good way of doing marketing.

If you're starting off as an Internet marketer or an online business owner, then using search engine marketing is a good choice. It's one of the most affordable types of marketing you can do and it can generate significant increases to your revenue. Plus you don't have to be a search engine marketing expert to get the results you want.<bio>The best resource to find out more about Search Engine Marketing or Search Engine is http://www.goodinternetmoney.com/SEOElite.
Many search engines are now ranking web pages that contain a lot of links to other sites higher than those that contain fewer links. This is why it is such a good idea to submit your pages to the search engines with as many links to other sites contained in them as possible. However, don't make the mistake of thinking that you can just submit any old pages mistakes. You must make sure these links are related to the content of your pages or you could even end up blacklisted by the search engines.

Whenever you find a web site that has content similar to yours, email the webmaster and ask for a link, pointing out why it would be appropriate. If he has content on his site useful to your visitors, link to him without even offering to trade links. Link to him, then email him and ask for a link back. Make sure that you include a big description in your letter of why a reciprocal link will be of great benefit to his or her traffic. If you can't offer traffic (the most common conundrum of newbies to SEO) then offer great credibility and expert material. If the big site says yes then the search engine will add the credibility of that link to your own and boost your ranking in the search engine pages.

The search engine that values link popularity the most is Google, For many people, the true value of the $299 a year cost of a Yahoo listing isn't the benefit of receiving click through from Yahoo, but the boost a Yahoo listing provides for their rankings on Google.

Open Directory doesn't cost anything, but getting a listing in this respected index can be time consuming, as everything is hand edited by humans on the other end. <bio>Chris Angus is a SEO and website promoter, he can be contacted at sales(at)brilliantseo.com http://www.chooseinsurance.co.uk http://www.mobility-direct.co.uk http://www.illustratemyname.com </bio>

When it come to getting ranked well in the search engines most people think in terms of their website as a whole. Where does my website rank in Google? Where do I rank in Yahoo? These are the questions search engine optimization companies get asked all the time.

The first thing we must know is the term being searched for. The website owner may be searching for their site under the term "architectural hardware" and not be showing up at all in Google or Yahoo for that term. But if they searched for "architectural products" they could be on the first page of both the major search engines.

Next we have to think of a website site not only as a single entity but as a collection of pages brought together to make up that logical and actual whole.

Much like a non-fiction book a website is usually about a single subject. In the case of a business that subject is the business itself.

Of course the most important page of your site is the home page. This is the one that most visitors will see first when entering your site. It should attract and interest your visitors enough so they don't just click away looking for something "better". But, depending on the size of your site, you could have several or even hundreds of other pages each of which has the potential of ranking in the search engines and attracting and interesting visitors as well.

A larger site has distinct advantages in a highly market. With more pages there is more for your visitor to see, learn and do. So he or she stays longer. The longer the visitor stays on your site the better your chance they will save one of your pages as a "favorite place", buy your product or use your services. Another advantage is the more pages the better your odds of getting indexed and ranked well by the search engines. Additionally each page can be optimized for a specific search phrase. This increases even more the opportunity for Yahoo or Google to rank your site well within their search results.

Those inside pages are an inside track from the search engines onto your site. Once the visitor enters your website you have a chance of turning them into a client or customer no matter what page they entered on.

Type any term into Google or Yahoo and you will get an idea of how important the inside pages are to a website's search engine ranking. Let's take a couple of terms at random. I just typed "computer monitor" into Yahoo. All but one of the pages that came up in the natural listings were pages within a site. That's nine out of ten. I typed "lap dog" into Google and it came up fifty-fifty. Five had "lap dog" in the domain name. Five were domains with pages that had "lap dog" in the name.

Moral of the story is treat each page of your site as an individual part of the greater whole and optimize it separately and well.

Sometimes the best way into the search results is by the Inside Passage.<bio>Meridith Berk is one of the founders of UltimateSitePromotion.com one of the oldest and most respected Search Engine Optimizing and Pay Per Click Management firms on the Internet.
A search engine results page, or SERP as it is known in short, is the listing of web pages that are displayed by a search engine in response to a keyword query. The results normally include a list of web pages with titles, a link to the page and a short description showing where the keywords have matched content within the page. A SERP may refer to a single page of links returned, or to the set of all links returned for a search query.

Some of the more major search engines such as Google and Yahoo may include different types of listings i.e. contextual algorithmic or organic as well as sponsored listings, images and maps. In order to get your website listed highly in the search engine results page you need to undertake search engine optimisation. The process of search engine optimisation or SEO as it is known in short, involves designing and promoting your website so that it is picked up by the major search engines. Without the help of SEO your website doesn't stand a chance of ranking highly in the search engine results page.

If you want your website to have more traffic driven to it and in effect gain more customers then you ideally want your website to appear within the top 30 results pages, after this 30 position you have less and less chance for someone visiting your site as they will use the help of your competitors who appear higher within the search engines.

SEO work is what will get your website into these top 30 spaces within the search engine results. This SEO work covers all aspects of search engine results including web results, image results and industry specific results.

A search engine results page is the page that appears in response to you searching for a keyword within a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. Some search engines cache SERPs for frequent searches and display the cached SERP instead of a live SERP to increase the performance of the search engine. The search engine updates the SERPs periodically to account for new pages, and possibly to modify the rankings of pages in the SERP.

SERP refreshing can take several days or weeks which can occasionally cause results to be inaccurate or out of date, and new sites and pages to be completely absent. If you want your website to have the best possible chance of ranking highly within the search engines then you need to keep in mind the design and content of your website. For example it is important to have unique Meta data on as many pages of your website as possible. You should make sure that these are different as search engines want to know that every page of your website is different. Another way to make sure that every page of your website is different is by ensuring that every page of your website has unique text and information; you should try to write specific text for every page of your website.

If you have a 50 page website and every page has unique content but all the titles and descriptions are the same then a web surfer will have a hard time determining which page of your website is worth visiting and in effect won't use your site.

As long as you enlist the help of an SEO specialist to make sure that your site is designed and promoted in the correct way you will give yourself the best chance of appearing in the top 30 results of the major search engines.<bio>Helen is the web master of Search Solutions, who are experts in providing you Search Engine Optimisation to ensure that your site is listed highly in the Search Engine Results Pages. </bio>
