Equity issues invariably form an integral component of a corporation's growth cycle. But they also result in dilution for existing shareholders, and too much dilution often turns a carefully crafted investment profile upside down. Take hundreds of junior mining companies as a classic example: exploration exercises, triggering repeated issuance of shares, have caused so much dilution that shareholders can only look forward to nominal returns (if any) even if a resource is eventually identified in accordance with industry standards.

The dilution rate is an expression of the ratio of new shares issued for each existing share on a corporate transfer book at any given point in time. In theory, dilution should be accompanied by substantive enhancement in shareholder value along a pre-determined timeline. In practice, however, proceeds from shares sold are spent on useless experimentation and head office costs; particularly in the case of an exceptionally large number of juniors, also rather presumptuously called "growth corporations".

As history proves, exploration can lead to windfall profits for shareholders. "The trick is to discover operations which can find the balance between new equity and sensible, fact-driven exploration schemes," a European asset pool advisor highlighted in a recent client circular. "Our benchmark is to work with managements who are willing to walk away from an exploration target if the facts so warrant, and then to quickly move on to greener pastures."

It is indeed rare to find a mining junior acknowledging publicly that an exploration program has failed. On the contrary, geologists keep providing fodder for press releases which are conditioned by highly technical information and which, in most instances, essentially hide more than they disclose. And, given the low market capitalization of the bulk of junior companies, fresh equity can only be placed at prices which significantly dilute shareholders on record.

Therefore, to justify dilution in an exploration context, there are some fundamental thresholds which must influence the quest for value. For one, investors should remember that, in general, any well-structured exploration plan will suggest the presence of one mineral or another in a large underlying property; but will the potential resource ever lead to profitable mining? Another criterion is the use of a "drop dead" budgetary ceiling; at what stage, and under what conditions, will the money-tap be turned off? Juniors must also confront the challenge of diversifying risk on a continuous basis, without creating dilution scenarios. Should on-ground joint ventures be actively encouraged in the early stages of the exploration process?

Finally, exploration need only be undertaken in regions with a proven past of generating sizable mineral reserves, with above-average concentration levels. There is little point in being a pioneer=97at least not with other peoples' money--in a situation where there are any numbers of "safer" bets, relatively speaking.

Prior to investing in a mining junior, investors owe it to themselves to be aware of one critical piece of information: the dilution ratio. Without access to that information, you are better advised to keep your money in the bank./

Note: Dilution ratios are easily computed based on information obtained from corporate filings.
It is a strange fact that as oil prices soar the number of jobs within the oil industry, especially in 'upstream' exploration and production, actually increases. As oil becomes more expensive more and more is needed to reduce the price. The Oil and Gas Industry is huge because the use of these natural resources is present in every aspect of modern life. Not only are these resources used as fuel but are ever present in the manufacture of everyday materials such as plastic, itself omnipresent in today's world.

Within the Oil and Gas industry exploration is one of the fastest growing areas. As oil runs out, new reserves have to be found. Also newer methods of obtaining the oil need to be researched and developed. As the more accessible oil fields are used up new oil fields are found that are simply unobtainable through existing drilling methods. The exploration sector of the Oil and Gas Industry covers jobs such as geologists, drilling engineers, reservoir engineers and production engineers.

Commonly if there are cut backs in the 'upstream' jobs then there are cuts across the whole of the sector; similarly the adverse is also true. With an increase in jobs in the 'upstream' sector more jobs become available in the 'midstream' and 'downstream' sectors. Midstream jobs are concerned with the transportation and refining whereas downstream jobs are wholesalers and retailers. Of course there is a period of delay whilst upstream jobs increase in order to find new reserves, or easier ways of drilling existing reserves, but once more oil is made available for production and sale then the demand for midstream and downstream jobs grows proportionately.

Simply put, as oil prices soar, more oil is needed to bring the cost down and as jobs increase more oil is needed to work with. New oil reserves are found on a regular basis. Last year, for example, Brazil found a huge new oil reserve off of its coast. The new reserve, believed to contain between 5 and 8 billion barrels of attainable oil, is set to make Brazil one of the world's largest oil producing nations. What's more it is set to guarantee job growth in the sector into the near future.

So, even within the current economic climate of a global crunch, there is one market sector that is set to expand regardless. Whereas in other sectors, such as construction, jobs are being cut Oil and Gas Jobs are on the rise at all levels in upstream, midstream and downstream areas. In order to combat the affect that increased oil prices will have on every other aspect of life and in every other job market an increase in jobs in this sector becomes crucial.

Oil and gas price increases affect us all; not only does heating our homes become more expensive but so does the price of a loaf of bread as transportation costs grow due to fuel price increases and so on. Therefore the exploration and discovery of new reserves becomes a major priority; good news if you are looking for one of the rewarding jobs in this sector.<bio>Duncan freer - Director - Oil and Gas Jobs Search is a job site dedicated to the specific needs of candidates who work in the Oil and Gas industry.
Your backyard is a great place for your child to get outside in play. In addition to swimming and playing outdoor sports, your child can also use your backyard as a science experiment. If you are interested in helping them achieve this, you may want to familiarize yourself with some popular backyard activities, especially those that have a focus on nature and science http://www.angeleslosplasticsurgery.org

Exploring your backyard is not only a fun activity, but it is also educational. There are a large number of living, breathing creatures that can be found outdoors. All children love exploring nature, but there are some who may enjoy this exploration more than others. Those children are likely to be toddlers or elementary school aged children. Since young children may need your assistance, you will want to pick backyard activities that you will also enjoy.

One of the many ways that you can incorporate science into your backyard is by studying the plants that can be found in your yard. While all backyards are likely to have a number of different plants or flowers, yours may have more. For the best type of environment, you are encouraged to explore areas of your yard that have yet to be mowed.

Your backyard is also likely full of a number of different insects. Like plants and flowers, your child may enjoy examining these bugs. It is not only fun to see what bugs live in your backyard, but it is also exciting to learn about how they survive. There is also a good chance that your children may leave your yard with a new pet.

In addition to the living things that can be found in your backyard, you and your child may also want to examine the weather and the impact it has on the yard and everything inside of if. Backyard conditions change as the weather changes. By examining your backyard after a rainy day, your child may find that many of the plants, flowers, and bugs have either changed or retreated to safer grounds. Examining the effect the weather has on the things in your backyard is not only fun, but educational.

To make the most out of your child's next backyard adventure, you may want to consider purchasing them some science supplies. These supplies may include, but should not be limited to containers, butterfly catching nets, magnifying glasses, picture books, and resource guides. If your child is planning on capturing a few insects, a small cage or breathable container may be just what they need. These supplies, along with others, can be purchased from most retail stores. These stores may include department stores, home improvement stores, and toy stores.

To keep your exploration focused on education, science books and nature resource guides may be a nice addition to your child's science collection. Many books and resource guide have a focus on insects, birds, plants, and flowers. Many of these resources will provide you with information and pictures. For a large selection of science and nature books, you are encouraged to shop online or visit your local book store.

When examining the plants, bugs, and flowers in your backyard, you and your child may want to document what you see. This can easily be done with a notebook or a camera. By taking pictures, your child will always be able to remember their exploration adventures. Those pictures could also be used for other crafts. Scrapbooks and collages are a great way to turn traditional photographs into something much more.

Whether your child plans on exploring your backyard or they do so without intending to, it is likely that they will interested with what they see and learn. Incorporating science into your next backyard adventure is just one of the many things that you and your child can do outdoors; however, it may be the most beneficial. <bio>http://www.angelescosmeticlossurgery.org </bio>

What is your idea of a safari?

It will depend on how you interpret the word.

Safari is a Swahili word that implies journey or travel. This typically means journey for survival's sake or travel to scour for areas of habitat. Nonetheless, since the earliest exploration of the African safaris and the inevitable bloom of the industry, safari became correlated with leisure travel amidst the wild. It may also be viewed as exploration of nature with the limit ascribing to the safaris alone.

At a glance, safari may present endless arrays of wild creatures, some only having their residence in the safaris while many can be found in other locations like the jungles or the forests. Some 500+ birds are found in the safari, not to mention the insects, bugs and the preys and predators.

Safari does not only have its focus on the wild. It mainly concerns culture and the interactions of people with the original settlers of the safaris- the lowly creatures.

With these ideas established we can now decide on what safari decoration to use. Let us give our focus on a room them.

The target room for which the safari decorations will be used must be themed primarily with woods or savanna concepts. The wallpapers or the wall paints can appear in shades of cream with touches of high grasses or visions of trees. It may also be that some display of safari activities is seen on the wall. However, be keen not to over-emphasize the decorations.

Now, on your furniture. Having a safari themed room would be more expensive than having it plain and conventional. Nonetheless, safari decorations are relatively more appreciated since they offer novelty and uniqueness. You may start with your wood furniture.

There are many resources where you may find concepts of safari furniture. One of which may be of tribal theme. But you may choose to have it simple with the use of plain wood home furnishings.

The key in safari decorations is to make every idea connected with the big picture. If you have wood furnishings then you might as well accessorize them with articles that you have bought from your recent safari trip. However, if you have nothing of these stuffs, you may choose to seek items from local home furnishing shops.

On top of these, add a touch of Africa with a painting that depicts the life found naturally in its realms. There are many concepts to choose from. Only, secure to it that all will merge as one big concept once you're done with decorating your room. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
Two non-profit organisations in the United States, alongside the private research Duke University in North Carolina, have spent the last three years monitoring the actions of gas and oil companies in the western Amazon, and have now completed a comprehensive map covering the area that shows the alarming extent to which the corporations have plans for commencing their destructive trade in their area.

The study identified 180 "blocks" that have been ear-marked for oil and gas exploration, an area that stretches 170 million acres, an area just smaller than that of oil rich Texas. Understandably, these findings have caused a huge amount of concern that the businesses are instigating a plan to begin operating in this delicate, bio-diverse portion of the world. The threat to wildlife and indigenous people is obvious, and the report found that many of the oil and gas blocks overlie areas of the greatest ecological wealth, meaning that any activity in the area would come at the cost of species that are already under threat, amphibians for example.

Environmentalists should be under no illusions as to the amount of pressure that businesses can exert on areas that have been in theory protected from their activities. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska is an example of an area that was recognised as being environmentally vulnerable, was defended through legislation and has still found itself under the avaricious eyes of the Bush administration and their oil drilling friends. When president calls for congress to authorize oil prospecting in a wildlife refuge, you realise that the measured, protective legislation put in place to guard environmentally valuable areas is all to easily brushed aside for the immediate plans of big business.

This study fond that the highest concentration of these 'blocks' were concentrated in the most pristine areas of the Amazon, and that even the world famous national parks contained within, such as Bolivia's Madidi National Park, were earmarked for exploration. Overall, the study found that there are a total of 64 'blocks' in the Peruvian Amazon, covering around 121 million acres or 72% of the total land. Peru, like many other developing, Amazonian countries, has been driving toward increasing its hydrocarbon exploration in its own borders, although it is not currently allowing such activities in its national parks.

The report focused on the impact that road building would have on these remote, potted havens of biodiversity. As well as destroying the rainforest beneath their path, roads make previously inaccessible areas easily accessible to human influence, including illegal loggers and poachers. Illegal logging is already a major problem in the vulnerable Amazon, where the sheer scale of the area makes effective policing very difficult. It is estimated that illegal logging accounts for around half of all logging globally, and would be devastating to a developing Amazonian country as it would cause a loss of biodiversity without bringing any of the economic benefits to the country as a whole due to the loss in tax revenue.

The report went on to highlight the huge impact that opening up these secluded areas of jungle would have to the indigenous people who currently inhabit the area. Many of these communities would be extremely vulnerable to disease brought in from the outside world, and there is a concern that traditional cultures and ways of life would be placed under threat through coming into contact with people from outside the forest.<bio>Matt Gammie is a writer for the green camparison website ecoswitch</bio>

The diminutive and destitute communist enclave that serves as Fidel Castro's personal cigar plantation now realizes that it has enough oil reserves under its coastal waters to prop up its no-go economy for decades and, incapable of assembling the capacity to out the oil itself, the island nation has begun to license drilling rights to other countries, including China, the prospect of which alarms us, and Spain, the idea of which invites us to think of tapas.

In wisdom wrought from its neediness, the resourceful islet has also offered to license American oil companies.

Expectedly enough, the very prospect of Cuba scooping oil out of the ocean floor while America has outlawed it for decades has enkindled hot debate in Congress about the present wisdom of our self-imposed interdiction. The debate has rapidly blossomed into a gusher partly because America has even more proven oil reserves in its coastal waters, no doubt principally because it has even more coastal waters.

Persuasively enough in these oil-dear times, there seems to be enough of the black gold there to meet all of our energy needs for about 18 years, or long enough for all the leaders in the Middle East who we aren't getting along with these days to go the way of leaders everywhere who, we determine, are irredeemably misguided.

Naturally, conservation societies have been galvanized into opposition by the mere prospect of an oil bit chomping into the emerald waters of our abundantly fishy coastlines in search of the liquid treasure below the reefs.

As the debate bubbles on, we can only consider a worst-case, best-case scenario. Worst case: we do nothing while foreign companies who don't exactly have the most reverential reputations in ecological propriety drill away and, as time allows, send oil spills slithering onto our beaches. Best case: we race to catch up with Cuba and maybe even preempt the ill-advised entanglements that might otherwise drill down into our hemisphere.

Since we're actually talking about drilling in our own backyard pond, we might also, one hopes, do it in ways that are less likely to lead to the shameful oil blights that fill us all with remorse and send fish and fowl off to tarry death -- derelictions that strange countries in a strange land might less assiduously labor to avoid. <bio>Tom Attea, creator of http://NewsLaugh.com, has had six shows produced Off-Broadway and has written comedy for TV.
The oil and gas industry, including exploration and production, consists of about 7,000 companies who pull in a combined, estimated revenue of around £450 billon. However, the production and associated revenue are fragmented; around 10% of companies generate approximately 60% of this figure. Demand for oil and gas is caused by economic activity, population growth and the need for energy for residential, industrial and transportation uses. The growth of an individual company is determined by the success rate of new finds, as well as the ability to continue to produce from existing sites.

Larger companies have the upper hand, having greater access to capital and the capacity to buy smaller companies or propagate amalgamations. Smaller companies rely on their abilities to focus on and develop expertise in a few geographical areas. In addition, oil and gas competes with other fuel-types, such as coal, nuclear power and hydro-electricity. In addition, other sources of energy are emerging, such as ethanol and bio-diesel and there are other forms of application arriving on the market, such as the new generation of hybrid-electric car.

Oil and gas are found in huge, underground basins that meet certain geological criteria. As well as creating three-dimensional maps of underground structures and using seismic waves to ascertain a site's potential, exploratory drilling is still a major factor in finding oil and gas. Last year, the number of exploratory drillings that took place exceeded 53,500. Once an area has been designated as having promise, the area is cleared and a drilling rig and crew are brought in to begin the process of extracting the resources that have been found.

Oil and gas jobs generally fall in to one of two categories: upstream and downstream. Upstream jobs are found in the process of obtaining oil and gas from natural resources: drilling jobs are upstream jobs. Other jobs are likely to include those in construction and those involved in production facilities. Not all upstream jobs take place on land; for many, part of the attraction of this industry is its variety. Gas and oil fields are also developed below sea level, such as in the North Sea and the sub-sea sites recently discovered in West Africa. These require specialists to find and extract the resources available.

Downstream jobs involve the transportation of oil and gas in their basic forms, the liquefaction of those substances and their processing. While upstream jobs tend to be comparatively more transitory, being based on exploration and ultimate extraction, it is in the downstream category that gas and oil careers are made; while oil rig jobs, for example, will only last as long as the resource is there, marketing jobs can become life-long opportunities as the team packages the combined products across the globe.

The oil and gas industries are two of the world's biggest and most profitable enterprises. They employ huge numbers of staff that work in an incredible range of department, from those on the 'front-line' to those who design advertising campaigns to those who put it in our vehicles.<bio>Oil Rig Jobs Jobs Search is a job site dedicated to the specific needs of candidates who work in the Oil and Gas industry.
There are worrying reports that the Arctic sea ice is melting at a faster rate than last year, despite the colder weather. Information from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) shows that the year began with ice covering a larger area than at the beginning of 2007. However by the beginning of summer the ice had diminished to the same levels as June last year -- breaking the records for sea ice loss. The ice is melting easily as it is so thin and scientists are now predicting that the Arctic seas may be ice-free during the summer within five to ten years.

"We had a bit more ice in the winter, although we were still way below the long-term average," said Julienne Stroeve from NSIDC in Boulder, Colorado. "So we had a partial recovery. But the real issue is that most of the pack ice has become really thin, and if we have a regular summer now, it can just melt away".

Despite NASA's reports in March, that the area covered by sea ice had increased slightly from 2007, most of the ice is thin, formed during the previous winter. It is more fragile than the thicker, less saline floes that have been around for several years.

A few years ago, scientists were predicting that the Arctic ice would have melted in the summer by about 2080. Then computer models started projecting earlier dates, around 2030 to 2050. In the summer of 2007 the Arctic sea ice reduced to the lowest amount ever recorded; 4.2 million sq km from 7.8 million sq km in 1980. By the end of last year, a research group had predicted the ice melting entirely as early as 2013.

"I think we're going to beat last year's record melt, though I'd love to be wrong," said Dr Stroeve. "If we do, then I don't think 2013 is far off any more. If what we think is going to happen does happen, then it'll be within a decade anyway."

Despite this eminent loss off ice being environmentally catastrophic, countries surrounding the Arctic are seizing up the economic opportunities that melting ice could expose. Canada and Russia are exploring sovereignty claims over tracts of Arctic seafloor, while President George Bush has recently encouraged more oil exploration in US waters, possibly with intent to extend the exploration to reserves off the Alaskan coast.

In their rush to maximize the situation economically, countries are not reflecting enough upon the climatic problems this will cause. Greenland has already lost ice into the ocean, contributing to the gradual rise in sea levels. The Arctic ice cap could increase sea levels globally by about seven metres if it all melted. Natural climatic cycles such as the Arctic Oscillation play a role in year-to-year variations in ice cover. Many scientists feel that the ice is now so thin there is little hope of preventing the melting cycle.

"If the ice were as thick as it was in the 1970s, last year's conditions would have brought a dip in cover, but nothing exceptional. But now it's so thin that you would have to have an exceptional sequence of cold winters and cold summers in order for it to rebuild," said Dr Ian Willis, from the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge. This does not bode well for the future of the Arctic ice.<bio>Hannah Walker is a writer for <a href="http://www.ecoswitch.com/"target="_blank">www.ecoswitch.com</bio>

For a significant period the application was limited to defense sphere only, and all the civil sectors were deprived of the benefits of GPS. There were all round criticism of the technology, and a number of security advocates purported that the technology would aid stronger nations to supervise the security of relatively weaker countries. Nevertheless, the technology has gained the much deserved popularity and acceptance during the later half of the 90s, when different countries realized the utility of GPS for commercial use. Now, in addition to defense, GPS is being widely used in various spheres, including- mobile phones, navigation, exploration of earth environment and its gravity field.

As of now, the GPS technology has advanced considerably, and a number of sophisticated GPS devices are available in the market. The technology is largely being embraced by the modern industries, and automobile industry is among the largest benefited section. The present day's car manufacturers have integrated the technology into their automobiles, and facilitated them in better exploration of their favorite destinations. However, if you are yet to reap the benefits of the GPS application then you can install or purchase a fully-featured GPS device for yourself.

If you like exploring new places, then GPS tool is a must have application for you. Just turn the keys of your car on, and geared up for discovering new sites of your choice, with the most proficient guide ever, in the guise of GPS device. If you are into an unknown place, GPS device would provide all the relevant information needed for your trip. GPS would narrate the latest traffic updates, and help you in avoiding the traffic jams ahead. Furthermore, the technology also informs you about the turns and intersections on your way. Most of the devices even flash the names of the prominent roads and intersections ahead.

GPS assists you in reckoning the current weather condition of any particular region. These weather forecasts save you from the imminent weather strokes, and help you in planning your trip accordingly. It even gives you an idea about the population density of the given area, and thereby helps you in avoiding crowded areas to drive through. The technology provides you all the necessary information about any region, and thereby helps you in preparing yourself accordingly. For instance, if you are visiting a cold region, then you can equip your car with all the necessary attachments, such as- snow tires, quantity of antifreeze, etc. Thus, this will help you in countering all sorts of shackles you may face in course of journey.

Furthermore, the devices are of great significance to travelers, and support them in finding the required places. For instance, while driving you are feeling uneasy and immediately need medical aid, then you could easily find all the prominent clinics and dispensaries within your vicinity. Moreover, it also enables you to locate the famous bars and restaurants, clubs, famous sites and landmarks, malls and shopping complexes, garage and servicing stations, and other such relevant places.<bio>Information provided by Richard Crittendon, who recommends automobile.com for the most detailed and updated car reviews</bio>

The oil and gas industry provides three quarters of the UK's primary energy alone and globally it is responsible for more energy output than any other fuel production areas. There are many changes coming about in the oil and gas industry as a direct result of this constant demand, with new means of sourcing oil and gas being looked at every day on a global perspective. The increased demand and the limited supply of both these fuels means the oil and gas industry has many difficult challenges ahead in the next decade and beyond, making it a very interesting sector to break into.

Oil and gas jobs represent a huge part of the job market in the UK, with positions ranging from customer-facing roles in public relations to commissioning jobs and project management jobs in the global arena. Ensuring a safe supply to those countries dependent on oil and gas for their economic prosperity is a difficult challenge the oil and gas industry has to face up to with depleting supplies and more countries becoming more dependent every day. Perhaps unsurprisingly this has led to a greater number of project management jobs in smaller countries where the emphasis is on working with the people and securing their future in terms of cleaner and sustainable fuel production.

Whatever your discipline, from engineering to geology and exploration engineering, there is a position within the oil and gas industry to accommodate your skills. Most oil and gas jobs will require a basic understanding of the challenges faced by the industry today and some will form a platform for the beginnings of solutions to those problems. Becoming part of the solution to a global problem is the toughest challenge the industry has ever had to face is what makes starting a new career in the oil and gas industry appealing to many.

Providing an oil and gas supply to consumers throughout the world may involve a great deal of traveling to ensure supply is reliable and clean. Depending on your role, it could also involve working in harsh environments such as drilling jobs offshore in the North Sea to supplying energy onshore to meet the high demands of the UK alone.

The main areas of work within the oil and gas industry are:

Exploration drilling and production
Construction jobs and fabrication
Engineering and research
Installation piping jobs and maintenance jobs
Equipment supply

Each of these areas has a wealth of positions available. Having a degree in your chosen area of work within this industry will of course stand you in the best stead as so many vocational degrees involve practical training and experience. Whether you're looking for a project engineering job or a mechanical job, a background in engineering will stand you in good stead in the oil and gas industry and give employers the confidence that you are able to meet the needs of this global sector. However, even without an engineering or related qualification, there are now many ways to enter into the oil or gas sector than ever before, and those with people management skills are as welcome as those who have previously been involved with installation and piping jobs in unrelated industries.

Working towards alternative solutions for the replacement of fossil resources, sourcing cleaner energy production methods which respond to climate change and finding methods of extraction which are secure and respect the area being mined are all aspects of the nature of the industry. Changing to meet the needs of the consumer and protecting the planet are both relevant considerations in industry's recruitment drive with an increased awareness of production alternatives and their impact becoming number one priority on most companies lists.<bio>Duncan freer - Director - Oil and Gas Jobs Search is a job site dedicated to the specific needs of candidates who work in the Oil and Gas industry.
The U.S. Department of Energy's record-keeping arm issued very encouraging data this week, which should give a boost to many of the companies developing their uranium properties in the United States. Front-runners, with the more solid outlook, include Strathmore Minerals (TSX: STM; Other OTC: STHJF), UR-Energy (TSX: URE), Uranerz Energy (OTC BB: URNZ) and Energy Metals (TSX: EMC). The U.S. government's uranium annual report should also help bolster the aspirations of the more speculative uranium explorers and developers we have previously written about, including Kilgore Minerals (TSX: KAU), Max Resources (TSX: MAX; OTC BB: MXROF), and Northwestern Minerals Ventures (TSX: NWT; OTC BB: NWTF), which also plan to explore their U.S. uranium-mineralized assets.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its Annual Domestic Uranium Production Report on Monday, showing the U.S. uranium production industry's turnaround continued through 2005. Drilling, mining, concentrate production, employment and expenditures all increased over 2003 and 2004. U.S. uranium mine production was the highest since the year 2000, but remains below the period of 1995-1999. Sustained growth in this sector appears likely based upon the soaring spot uranium price, which has increased more than 500 percent since then.

U.S. uranium mined produced an estimated 3 million pounds of uranium oxide (U3O8), 24 percent more than in 2004. Estimated U.S. uranium concentrate (yellowcake) production in 2005 was 2.7 million pounds U3O8, 18 percent more than 2004. Domestic production mills and in-situ recovery facilities shipped an estimated 2.7 million pounds of uranium concentrate, this past year.

In 2005, employment in the uranium industry increased by 52 percent, over the previous year. Drilling for uranium, production, land and other expenditures jumped by 54 percent, in 2005 compared to 2004. Companies spent an estimated $16.4 million in 2005, the most since 1997 -- 1998. Surface drilling as measured in millions of feet was 1.7 million feet, the most since 1999. Employment in person-years was estimated at 638, the largest employment figure since 1999, but far below the four-digit employment numbers of 1995 -- 1998. The greatest employment percentage increase came from Arizona, Utah and Washington State, but the largest employment number in person-years came from Colorado and Texas. Wyoming, New Mexico, and Nebraska showed modest increases in employment numbers.

Exploration activity was also up. The number of drill holes exploring for uranium, in 2005, grew by 47 percent over 2004. Land expenses nearly doubles since 2003. These were expenditures for land acquisitions, geological research, geochemical, geophysical surveys, and costs incurred by field personnel in the course of exploration, reclamation and restoration work (plus overhead and administrative costs associated with supervising and supporting field activities).

The largest percentage and dollar increase came from production expenditures, which include mining, milling, uranium processing and running the facilities. The estimated expenditure more than doubled in 2005, compared to the previous year. This jump in expenses confirms that uranium exploration, development and production companies are preparing for a banner year in 2006 and beyond.

While production was modest compared to the world's powerhouse producers, such as Athabasca and Australia, the EIA report reminded us of the production capacity of the various U.S. facilities. While U.S. utilities require between 50 and 60 million pounds of uranium to fuel reactors, the domestic uranium industry is producing but a fraction of what is needed. Total "existing" production capacity from permitted In Situ uranium recovery stands at 8.8 million pounds annually. U.S. utilities need to begin looking beyond next year's annual report. The time is now to foster and encourage the small domestic uranium industry before everyone but the United States has available uranium supplies to power their nuclear fleets.

An interesting EIA report, issued last Thursday, confirms what we've been writing about. For 2006, U.S. utilities have contracted for more than 60 million pounds of uranium to fuel the country's nuclear fleet. Looking forward to 2007, they have only contracted for 45 million pounds. By 2008, the contracted number dives below 30 million pounds. For the period of 2009 -- 2010, U.S. utilities have contracted for about 10 million pounds per year, averaged over those two years. That is far below the minimum uranium requirements necessary to fuel the country's nuclear reactors. This should again confirm that the U.S. uranium bull market has barely begun. <bio>James Finch contributes to http://StockInterview.com and other publications.
People have always been curious about the world around them and the development of maps has echoed this historical fascination. Maps were once considered to be valuable objects and were treasured by their owners and regarded as works of art in their own right. These objects attracted the attention of artists as well as skilled draughtsmen and maps became quite ornate and decorative items, capturing the imagination of those who wondered what lay beyond the horizon.

Early maps tended to reflect what people knew or remembered and were largely topographical in nature. Often, these early pieces depicted myth and lore, combining to create "living maps" that were passed form generation to generation. Formalising the topography into early maps, knowledge became standardised and sowed the foundation of early cartography.

By the Middle Ages cartography had slowed in that accuracy became replaced by religious depiction through maps. Examples of strong belief can be seen in some maps where the Holy Land is shown to be at the centre of the earth. Another example is Europa Regina by Johannes Bucius which shows an early and elongated map, depicting Europe as the Queen of the World.

The Age of Seafaring during the 16th and 17th centuries saw new interest in map making, particularly the British and the Dutch taking to the seas and exploring new lands. At this time maps became increasingly artistic. An East Indies map in tropical colouring with pineapple trees and other exotic flora and fauna, designed to capture the imagination and evoke the scent of spice in the air is a typical example. As the demand for cartographers grew in the 17th century the artistic nature of maps from a purely functional item to a work of art began to evolve.

Maps were often decorated elaborately with sea creatures or mythical characters. Many of these very accomplished draughtsmen created quite unique works of art from map making. Maps designed by Petrus Plancius (1552-1622) or Abraham Ortelius (1528-1598) were frequently found embellished with intricate pictorial content. A successor to Abraham Ortelius was the Dutch cartographer Jan Baptist Vrients (1552-1612) who designed Obis Terrae Compendosia. The world is split into two hemispheres and surrounded by ornate and detailed pictorial decoration. The map brings a perception of how the world looks and a plethora of exotic creatures and landscapes from the far flung shores of the globe.

Another famous example is Nova Totius Terrarum, designed by Henricus Hondius (1597-1622), a Dutch Cartographer. This 17th century map is an ornate depiction of the world and is surrounded by detailed nautical scenes, perhaps reflecting the age and drama of exploration by sea as mythical creatures rise from the ocean and men are seen contemplating their journey.

Antique maps are increasingly popular in the modern home and make elaborate tapestries in home décor. There are a number of ways in which an antique map can add charm and elegance to the home, whether in poster, print or tapestry format and are much appreciated by connoisseurs of good taste.

Copyright © The Tapestry House, all rights reserved.<bio>Angela Dawson-Field writes extensively on art, history and tapestries and tapestry art.
The ultimate goal of most individuals is to have a rewarding career. After years of grueling studies, you would naturally want to practice what you have learned in school. But a rewarding career can not be achieved overnight. It usually takes time and a lot of sacrifices before you eventually reach your career goals. The easiest way to accomplish this is thru career development.

Career development is very important if you plan on being successful. It usually involves a realistic plan that is detailed and organized. You can start making this plan by assessing your self. You should determine your interests, skills and strengths as well as limitations and weaknesses. After doing this, you can now consider which aspects of your past and present employment you find most interesting. All these can help you pinpoint exactly what path to take to further your career. You should also determine whether you are committed enough to relocate or work on different shifts.

After considering all these factors, you can now move on to another aspect of career development, which is exploration. When exploring possible career paths, you should keep in mind the different opportunities that come with different job titles. By having a clear idea of career ladders, you can find out whether or not the path fits your career plans.

Additional research is very important. You can find individuals who work in the field you are interested in and ask them specific questions about their jobs. You should make it clear to them that you are exploring options as part of your career development plans. When inquiring about their work, make sure that you only get objective assessment of their job in order for you to have a very clear picture.

For more information on career development, the internet is a good source. You can search for information like scope of duties, compensation, qualifications and required work experience. It would help you decide which career path would be more rewarding. Aside from the internet, there are also counseling centers that could provide you with expert advice and tips as well as additional information about the career you are interested in.

After doing all these, you are finally ready to decide the best career move for you. Of course, the most important factor you should consider when exploring career options is if it would make you happy and fulfilled in the long term. <bio>One excellent way to address the career development issues within your mind is to go through hypnosis. http://careerdevelopment.y54.com </bio>

Many investors invested in the Great Uranium Bull Market with little rationale behind their speculation. Through the robust rallies of the past two years, it was easy to play the momentum of a newsletter writer's recommendation. Quite a few did so, often employing the 'greater fool strategy' and hoping the last and dumbest investor would provide an exit strategy for the early and nimble speculator.

We have created a 7-point ratings system to help you in determining which companies might be best suited for your degree of investment risk. It's a guideline you can use, and we've not assigned a weighting to each item. Nor have we named any uranium companies. This is a do-it-yourself ratings system, which requires but two actions on your part: (a) be persistent in your data-gathering from each company by asking the questions we posed below, and (b) be honest in your assessment when you review this data.

Some of the more speculative, pure exploration plays might abandon their properties by the end of the year or in 2007. Those would include under-capitalized companies with the more speculative properties and who also fare poorly on our ratings system. This ratings checklist would also apply to the pure specs. We began with our article, "How to Choose a Uranium Stock," featuring Sprott Asset Management Market Strategist Kevin Bambrough and Senior Portfolio Manager Jean Francois Tardif, as a starting point to create a more advanced ratings system for you.

Uranium producers are likely to make a strong comeback as they cross over or switch to more lucrative long-term contracts. But, it could be the smaller, but more solid, uranium development companies which could emerge as the preferred investment vehicles, when the bull resumes the next leg of its long run. Now that we have had a shakeout, with possibly another one on the horizon, it is wise to properly evaluate the important merits of the more serious uranium development companies.

Below are some of the key criteria we are using in our ratings system to objectively evaluate uranium companies covered in our new book, "Investing in the Great Uranium Bull Market: A Practical Investor's Guide to Uranium Stocks." Please determine if your favorite exploration and/or development company meets these standards. This is one way of obtaining sufficient data to help you form a snapshot of a company's prospects.

1.Cash Position. The more cash a company has in its treasury, the longer it can survive. Find out if your favorite company has a minimum of $20 million in cash. More than $30 million gives a company some breathing room. Exploration and development are very expensive propositions. Raising money in a down market is very tough.

2.National Instrument 43-101. This independent geological assessment determines how many pounds of uranium a company's property hosts. While there are flaws with this system, it can be a workable yardstick. Find out if your favorite company has a minimum of 20 million pounds of a NI 43-101-compliant uranium resource. One should consider historical resources inadequate for evaluation purposes. They may also be misleading and open to hyperbole.

3.Pedigree of Known Deposits. Many of the uranium development companies hold properties, which were once held by the minerals or uranium divisions of major oil companies. Some were continuously held, during the 20-year bear market in uranium by one company or another, and then abandoned during the nadir of the drought. Find out if your favorite uranium company's primary properties were continuously held until 2000 or a bit longer, but before the spot uranium market reversed. The earlier a company acquired its properties, the greater the probability that company got the best ones. Those who came into the game late often got the crumbs.

4.Drill Databases. Those previous land tenants, the major oil companies, who spent tens of millions of dollars drilling the uranium properties, accumulated drill databases. Some companies got the property, but not the drill databases. Some companies bought the drill database as part of their property acquisition. Find out if the company's primary properties also have the drill database accompanying it. You may be surprised at what you find.

5.Pedigree of Uranium District. There are several premier uranium districts, which have a history of large-scale uranium production: Athabasca, Australia's Northern Territories or South Australia, Grant's New Mexico, Wyoming, Kazakhstan, Niger, and Namibia. Find out if your favorite company has holdings in these districts. Some companies have holdings in multiple uranium districts, which may also become recognized as a wise decision by their management.

6.Management's Technical Experience. There are three categories of uranium experience: exploration geologist, project geologist and mine operations. Find out how much experience your company's geological team has in each of those three categories. Those with less than 100 man-years of uranium experience behind them may be lacking. Those companies which have strength in all three categories could become the next uranium producers.

7.Political or Environmental Risk of Primary Assets. Finally, you should assess the risk of the company's primary assets with regards to its location. Primary uranium assets in North America or Australia's Northern Territories hold the lowest risk. Those companies exploring or developing in Niger, Namibia or Brazil have slightly higher political risk. Companies with prospects in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kazakhstan or Mongolia hold more risk than some investors may wish to tolerate. Areas which forbid mining such as Queensland, Western Australia or the U.S. state of Virginia carry an enormous degree of risk and a Kierkegaardian leap of faith.

Now you can rate your favorite uranium company and use this ratings system to help you sift through the more than 300 potential stocks in which you might have considered investing. <bio>James Finch contributes to http://StockInterview.com and other publications.
New technologies being used to drill for, and produce, coalbed methane (CBM) gas are making it easier to get out the gas. That's according to Dr. David Marchioni, one of Canada's leading CBM geologists, who appeared on Canada's ROB TV in late April. "Because of advances in the technology, one can be more effective in getting the gas out," Dr. Marchioni told the reporters on Canada's leading business television network.

Questioned about how CBM gas was different from conventional natural gas, Dr. Marchioni, who was recently named the Vice President of Exploration for Pacific Asia China Energy (TSX: PCE), responded, "CBM gas is really no different from natural gas." He added, "It's really better because it has a very high methane content, generally 90 percent, often much higher than that."

Marchioni pointed out that coal has a lot of porosity and can hold a lot of gas. "Permeability is the problem with CBM," he explained. He compared CBM with natural gas, saying, "If you can find the (natural) gas, you can probably get it out." That's not always the case with CBM.

China came during Marchioni's television interview. China nearly always does end up a topic of discussion, when talking about CBM. Because China's coal mines account for approximately 80 percent of coal mining fatalities, China has campaigned to reduce the number of deaths. China's state-owned CBM company, China United Coalbed Methane Company, has continued granting CBM concessions to foreign-owned companies to help vent the methane from their coal mines. "The Chinese government is pushing very hard to have their coal mines degassed," Marchioni said. He explained that the Chinese were beginning to drill for methane before starting their coal mining operations.

"That's something we're interested in," Marchioni told ROB TV. The "we" must be Pacific Asia China Energy, upon whose board he sits as a director in addition to exploration duties. His company has two CBM concessions in China, and Marchioni recently returned from China. Pacific Asia China Energy has also formed a joint venture company with Australia's largest privately owned drilling company to utilize their highly acclaimed Dymaxion® drilling technology for exclusive use in China. That is an advanced technology in which Chinese coal mining companies have expressed interest in using for their coal mines. Marchioni's company recently announced initial drilling results on one of their Chinese CBM properties.

As with others, who have recently visited China, Marchioni was overwhelming in his praise for China's continued modernization process. He joked with us, saying, "I get a better cell phone connection in some rural part of China than I do in some parts of Alberta." It has been difficult for us to grasp how "modernized" China has become. We've heard the same glowing phrases about China expressed by numerous mining insiders who have recently visited this country. All of that commentary didn't really dawn on us, until this past weekend, while watching the new movie, Mission Impossible 3. Magnificent shots of Shanghai's skyline filled with ultra-modern office towers and high rise condominiums, where some of the movie was filmed, persuaded us China has indeed moved forward into the 21st century. China has more than 200 cities with populations greater than 1 million, dwarfing any other country on earth. China reportedly has more then 300 million in its middle class. We had better all start learning Mandarin or Cantonese or both. <bio>James Finch contributes to http://StockInterview.com and other publications.
Engineering is a great career choice for many. With 1.4 million engineering jobs in the U.S. alone, it's no wonder this career field is a popular one. Let's take a look at a few reasons why engineering is such a hot and rewarding career.

Challenging Work

Engineers get to combine their creativity, mathematics and science background with technology in order to help solve everyday problems. They get to work on the design and development of new products, help with their production, monitoring, maintenance and testing.

In alphabetical order, the main engineering specializations are: aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, electronics, environmental, health and safety, industrial, marine, materials, mechanical, mining and geological, nuclear and petroleum.

Career Tidbits

The following list includes some interesting information about this career field according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook:

- Engineers generally work 40 hours per week, but the workload may increase under tight deadlines. Daily engineering tasks often involve work outside the desk space including lab research, field work, exploration and construction sites, monitoring stations and more.

- Engineers need to continue their educations to keep on top of the latest research and technological changes. Some companies offer funding for this. Not staying on top of the changes can mean the difference between maintaining employment and being laid off.

- The Internet has opened the doors for telecommuters (who may often come aboard for less money via long-distance arrangements), but local engineers are still in demand. Engineers often work on-site teaming up with others and their support staff.

- In 2004, engineers with higher degrees (Master's and PhD's) earned more. And for specialty engineers, workers earned well into the 6-figure ranges.

- Rapid growth in the technology sector means companies must seek the means to stay ahead of competitors with product and technology development, testing, and monitoring. Therefore, engineers are in demand and will be for some time to come. <bio>So check into career opportunities in your area and see what rewards you can reap as an engineer!
