In this article we will talk about the musical instruments in the woodwind family. These have always been instruments of interest because they are some of the most natural instruments available to play. Most people enjoy playing these instruments for this reason.

The piccolo, flute, oboe, English horn, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone are all instruments of the woodwind family. Most of these instruments were made of wood. Now, they have evolved and are made from all sorts of material, however, the essence is still the same for each instrument. Basically, they still play in the same way. Because they are played by blowing air or with wind, they are called the woodwind family of musical instruments.

The designs of the musical instruments woodwind family are all made from a tube with holes in the tube. When the holes are covered up, the air goes all the way to the end of the tube. This results in a different sound being played. When the holes are open and nothing is over them, the air goes only a little way and the instrument makes a high sound. The instrument with the shortest tubing and the highest sound is known as the piccolo. The notes of these instruments can be further increased by using different shapes and sizes. This is why the saxophone can be shaped different and can come in a variety of forms.

Further information on musical instruments woodwind family

These instruments are perfect if you want your child to get in to musical instruments. Many children across the world are fascinated with these instruments and start playing them from an early age. Some lose interest, but many do not. You will often find that these children go on to play more musical instruments as they grow up and gain a general interest in playing musical instruments.

The woodwind family of instruments makes sounds in different ways. The flute makes a sound by blowing air across the holes on the instrument. The clarinet and saxophone generally use a single piece of cane. These canes vibrate producing a sound. The oboe, English horn, and the bassoon used a double piece of cane that vibrated against each other resulting in different types of sounds.

We love the woodwind family of musical instrument, they are the most natural of musical instruments, and possible some of the oldest musical instruments available. Although today they have been modernized, nothing beats using them in their old fashioned form from the structure of fresh cane.
Musicians for your Wedding

Another important part of organizing the music for your wedding is choosing musicians to play the music you have chosen. If you have a family member who is an excellent musician, you may want to have them play a piece for your wedding ceremony, but be sure to steer clear of being talked into having your second cousin's daughter playing if you are not sure of her skills. If choosing a family member, make sure that you have heard them play and that they are qualified to play your wedding music or you may end up in a wedding day disaster.

The musicians that you hire for your wedding may depend on what style of music you have chosen for your wedding. If you are going for a very classical style of music you may want to hire a string quartet or a brass or woodwind quintet. If you want your processional to have organ music, then you may need to hire an organist as well. You may also want to hire a pianist for your wedding, especially if you are having people sing in your wedding. If the wedding is an important part of your ceremony, make sure that you can have at least some of the musicians available at the wedding rehearsal to make sure that everything goes smoothly the next day.

Choosing a DJ

Many people decide to choose a DJ for their wedding reception instead of live music because it is a great deal cheaper than hiring a full band and usually you can get a greater variety of music as well. There are many DJs to choose from for your wedding reception, but you want to make sure that you get the very best. When choosing a DJ you may want to check with friends and family who have had weddings recently and see if they have a recommendation. You can also check with a wedding planner or even with your reception hall to see if they have any DJs that they would recommend.

Once you have a few names for consideration you will want to interview each of the DJs and ask to see video of any weddings they have done in the past. Make sure that you get along well and that the DJ is easy to work with and will take your suggestions. Other things to check into when hiring a DJ is the cost, making sure they will be dressed appropriately, and the amount of experience they have doing weddings.

Remember that your wedding is your special day, and you want to make sure that everything goes well. Make sure that you pick the music you want for your wedding and find musicians and DJs that are experienced and professional. You want your wedding day to be perfect, so spend time in the beginning choosing the right music and the right people to perform that music at your wedding. A little time spent before your wedding deal with choosing and organizing your music can save you from a wedding day disaster. <bio>Visit http://www.soundimagedjs.com/ for a great Sacramento Wedding DJ </bio>

Over the last decade, schools across the nation have experienced the loss of music. The San Diego schools also had to replace music in many of its schools with other curriculum dictated by the state or federal law. The San Diego schools' budget only stretches so far and, unfortunately, the arts have felt the biggest hit.

Frank Glasson and the Presidio Brass are changing all of that for the San Diego schools. A trumpet player by profession, Frank is also president of Local 325 of the American Federation of Musicians and director of Presidio Brass, a brass quintet. The veteran musician has performed with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, the San Diego Opera, and San Diego's Westwind Brass, as well as ensembles in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Glasson saw that music was steadily disappearing from the San Diego schools and wanted to do something about it. He believes that the constant influence of television, movies, computers and CDs could erode the senses of youth to the more refined music. He enlisted the help of the other members of Presidio Brass -- Ray Nowak, Mike McCoy, Sean Reusch, and Scott Sutherland, who play the trumpet, French horn, trombone, and tuba, respectively.

Working under the umbrella of the nonprofit San Dieguito Performing Arts Association, Presidio Brass developed the "Musicate the Mind" program for the San Diego schools. Musicate is an educational and musical outreach program, developed specifically to fill the musical void in the schools. With Glasson's wife Robyn coordinating the events and developing contracts with the San Diego schools, Presidio Brass presents various customized programs for the different grade levels that fits any educational or outreach school requirement.

Glasson and his ensemble want to create relationships with the San Diego schools students, not just play music for them. Within that relationship, he hopes the children will grow to appreciate live music and keep it alive by becoming tomorrow's supporters of live instrumental music. He plans to eventually do 200 programs per year all over Southern California.

For kindergartners through fifth graders, Presidio Brass introduces the brass instruments, their development, and historical context. The quintet members also give some basic musical concepts in a fun and engaging manner.

For fourth and fifth graders, the ensemble can integrate music into the core curriculum by teaching language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science through the language of music.

For middle and high schoolers, they present their Residency-for-a-Day program, which exposes San Diego schools students to the brass quintet. The hope is to inspire students to promote and cultivate their own musical abilities. Additionally, they want to give encouragement and instruction to those already playing instruments, knowing that such support is crucial.

For high schools, Presidio Brass gives master classes and concerts for their school orchestras and bands.

Though Glasson and the Presidio Brass quintet are in other school districts as well, the San Diego schools and their students will benefit greatly from this unique outreach musical program. <bio>Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
It is sometimes too tough to learn guitar when you are honestly not inclined to the instrument or even music per se. You will face many set backs and troubles while doing so. However if you successfully hurdle through it, there is no doubt that you will succeed in learning how to play the instrument. Erase the idea of failing from your mind because if you start learning guitar with this kind of outlook most probably you will really fail for sure. It is time to give yourself some strong convictions so that you could achieve something that you could be proud of. Let us see some few things you can do to ensure your success.

One, you search for motivation and inspiration. People, your loved ones or maybe even just listening to acoustic music will keep you motivated. If you hear one song that is totally captivating, do not ignore the fact that you would want to play the same and this is already a good start. You can motivate yourself for that matter without depending on anyone to motivate you. But it is all too well if you have someone who encourages you in doing just as that.

Two, you stay in an enlightened manner where you believe you can. The power of positive thinking will really work if you keep it that way. The stronger your belief that you can do it, the more you can achieve even the unachievable. That is direct way of saying that there is really nothing impossible if you just keep telling yourself that you can. Always remind yourself that guitar learning is just an easy challenge that you will conquer sooner or later depending on how slow or fast your learning pace is.

Three, devise a time table for you to regularly practice what you already know and will yet to know. In other words, just like a baseball player keep exercising for his game and even without game, it is similar time table for you too. You have to keep exercising and doing until you come to a point where you have already mastered one aspect of guitar player and once you achieve this then it is now time to go up into the next level. Believe me, no one can take your there except yourself.

Four, always imagine yourself succeeding this hurdle and eventually you will be because sometimes our outlook will lead us to success. You just have to keep looking forward and see to it that you are not distracted. Keep focusing in achieving your pre-set goal and your outlook will see to it that you will arrive there. Do not give up half-way there because the time you spend thinking and thinking without doing is a time wasted when you could have spent it on learning.

Five, other people will tend to be better than you. Do not be discouraged when you see someone who can play beautifully like a pro. Instead, use this as a tool for you to achieve success.<bio>James Brown writes about Woodwind and Brasswind bargains, Guitar Trader bargains and Music123 bargains</bio>

Many parents want to encourage their children to learn to play a musical instrument, to encourage their musical development.

The first instrument is often a music keyboard. These are reasonably priced and stimulate an interest in music even in very young children. Ask your school music teacher for advice, because some of the very low cost keyboards are very limited. The higher priced keyboards play notes softer if they are hit less hard, more like a piano.

Your child may enjoy the sound of a particluar instrument. This can be a major motivational factor, so it is a good idea to go with the child's ideas, at least initially. Many children change the instrument they play in the first few years of their music education.

Many children may find it easier to play woodwind instruments like a clarinet than brass instruments like trumpets and trombones. Woodwind instruments do not require the lip vibrations that brass players need.

Most children's choice of instrument is a matter of chance. It depends on what instrument is favored by visiting music tutors.

There are more professional violinists than players of any other instrument. This is one reason parents often encourage their children to take up the violin. Buying a violin is a tricky business.

You can buy a violin for less than 70 dollars on the Internet. Should you buy it? Never.

A violin is not just a pair of shoes. Shoes are designed to be used and thrown away when they wears out. A well-made violin will last for hundreds of years. The 70 dollar violin above should just be thrown away. Buying one for your child is a waste of 70 dollars.

If your child is taking up the violin, or any instrument, it might be an idea to rent rather than buy, until you see how your child takes to the instrument. That is the point at which you should consider buying.

Buy the best instrument you can afford. Price is definitely linked with tonal quality. Listen to a range of violins, pianos or trumpets being played by the musician in the retailers. You will notice differences between the different instruments. Always buy a musical instrument you and your child like the sound from. Musical training will attune the child's ear to any deficiency in the instrument you buy, and this will detract from the pleasure he or she gains from playing it. <bio>Ciara McGrath is a full time mother to four teenage daughters.
The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/historic+american+sheet+music" rel="tag">Historic American Sheet Music, Rare, Book, Manuscript and Special Collections Library at Duke University struggles with the definition of sheet music. Though some might desire to relegate the use of the term "sheet music" to popular or modern music, The Library at Duke has discovered that "Especially in the mid-nineteenth century, a publisher may have issued sacred and secular songs, Lieder, opera excerpts, potpourris, waltzes, marches and descriptive etudes side-by-side." They go on to describe sheet music as the mere physical product of recording music on paper. Sheet music can also be described as a "score". However it is described, sheet music is the way in which a reader (one who reads musical notation) can play a piece of music.

Sheet music provides a special kind of potential entertainment. Musical scores, specifically those written for or including the piano, were very popular at the turn of the century as many private homes had pianos. Before radio became the preferred form of entertainment, regular people had to create their own entertainment. A new set of sheet music was like a new TV show, and allowed anyone who could play to entertain themselves with a new piece of music.

Another popular and now defunct function of sheet music was as a carrier for art. In some cases, the art on the cover of the sheet music was as interesting and desirable as the music found inside. Music publishing (in America) began in the 1790's. At that point it was not big business because unlike a century later, the average consumer did not have a piano in the house and, as America was still expanding, shipping was difficult and costly. It wasn't until after the Civil War that the visual art on the cover of the sheet music became as important as the audible art found on the inside. One particular artist, E.T. Paul because particularly well known for his song choices and cover art. He began by commissioning color lithographs for his own pieces of composition. It is believed that much of his (wild) success was due less to the content of his music and more to his topic choice and choice of cover art. In the same way that cover art revolutionized the sale and advertising qualities of sheet music, cheap alternatives for shipping took this fledgling American industry from being strictly regional to being able to reach all over the country. <bio>Taisha Grant writes about http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com,http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/Woodwind%20and%20Brasswind.html and http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/GearTree.com.html </bio>

Musical composition can happen in advance with an aim towards repeat performance or it can happen on the spot when musicians improvise or jam. Composition describes the formal construction of a piece of music, both it's incarnation on paper and its performance incarnation. Originally Western music was composed for the church and for worship. Its function was to be repeated but the artistic/creative elements of musical composition were lacking as the music itself was more pedagogical in purpose. Once polyphonic sounds began to creep in, composers began to record music on paper for future performance. This begins to happen when the view of music starts to change from that of a form of worship to a form of worship that also provides audio pleasure.

There is a mathematical precision to musical composition that is present in most studies of musical theory. Though music is a creative art, its composition and performance is both scientific and mathematical and adheres to certain rules of rhythm and spacing on the page in order to sound a particular way.

Traditional Gregorian Chant notation, some of the first written music in Western culture, is written in "neumes". Neumes are the most basic building block of musical notation and predate the introduction of the five line staff notation. These original notations were simple dashes on a page. They did not always indicate a note to be sung as far as the pitch was concerned, but, rather, were an indication in what kind of sound was to be made and sometimes in what order. Though neumes are visually reminiscent of their later incarnation in the five line staff notation, their rules were completely different. Two, dashes, one a top of the other, might mean that the bottom "note" was to be sung first followed by the top. Other things are very close in range. For instance, when a dot was placed after a neume it was meant to indicate that the note was to be a held for a length of time. This same structure exists in modern music in the five line staff notation.

The earliest neumes were actually Aramaic, and did not originate in the early Christian Church. They were originally used to indicate how and with what tonal attributes a religious text was meant to be read. The utilization of neumes was the first step towards the composition and formal construction of music. <bio>Taisha Grant writes about http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com,http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/Woodwind%20and%20Brasswind.html and http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/GearTree.com.html </bio>

And the right classical music can really set the stage for a romantic, memorable wedding ceremony.

Talent notwithstanding, there is more to performing wedding ceremony music than a musically talented performance. While there may be many superbly talented musicians in our schools and conservatories, performing a wedding ceremony requires professionalism and a musical timing that many students have yet to attain.

Classical Musicians

Classical musicians always add an air of romance and tradition to any wedding ceremony. There are several different musical styles of classical music you may want to consider in selecting music for your South Florida wedding ceremony. Pieces such as "Canon in D Major" by Pachelbel is arguably the most popular processional music for weddings.

A harpist with a flute player, (referred to as a "flautist") are among the most popular instrumentation, often with the addition of a cellist. String quartets, trios, Woodwind quintets and brass choirs are sometimes used for dramatic effect.

Band Musicians Offer Flexibility

Many ceremonies are also performed by the keyboardist and woodwind player from the band that will play dance music at the reception. These musicians can perform classical pieces using orchestral sounds, in addition to the flautist. They can then switch to jazz piano and sax for the cocktail hour, in contrast to the ceremony music. It can also be more cost effective to use the band musicians at the ceremony.

As your guests arrive, "prelude" music is often played to set the stage and create the atmosphere for the ceremony about to take place. It is important for the musicians to set the tone, as well as be sensitive to the crowd and the venue.

Timing Is Everything

In performing music during the wedding procession, the musicians must be able to time the music's tempo, start, ending, as well as be able to go into a "holding pattern" if necessary to accommodate the length and pace of the ceremony processional.

They must also be able to create a musically dramatic moment upon the entrance of the bride. This moment is amongst the most memorable at any wedding ceremony, and must be well-executed for maximum effect.

The recessional, or trip back down the aisle at the conclusion of the ceremony is a time for celebration, and this should be reflected in the musical selection. You may opt for a traditional piece by Mendelssohn, or perhaps an upbeat Jewish piece in the case of a temple wedding.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Depending on the size of the crowd, as well as the setting (indoors or outdoors for example), the musicians may be required to amplify their instruments to be heard. Many harpists have an elaborate system of contact microphones installed on their instruments, while many violinists and cellists use a clip-on microphone strategically placed.

When making a decision on hiring a wedding orchestra in South Florida for your wedding ceremony, keep in mind they generally have a two hour minimum, so more than likely they'll be performing at your cocktail hour as well. You may want to make sure the classical musicians can play a variety of popular songs, including jazz standards, ethnic melodies, and show tunes. Amplification is a must for the acoustic instruments to be heard over the noise of people chatting and eating.

South Florida wedding musicians can be auditioned via audio CD, or from a website if the audio quality is good. It is very difficult to go to someone else's wedding ceremony to hear them in person, so recommendations by music companies or wedding planners can be helpful in your decision. Be aware that sometimes these wedding professionals may make a commission on their recommendations, so educate yourself as to the reputation of the person you're taking advice from.

Selecting the best South Florida wedding music for your ceremony can be fun and exciting, and should always include professionals in the industry to assist in making the right choice for your needs and desires. Having wonderfully talented musicians perform for your ceremony can create a magical experience you and your guests will long remember.<bio>Manhattan Music, a South Florida wedding band specializes in fun, sophisticated dance music to energize your crowd.
Blind children can learn to play a musical instrument just as well and often even better than, sighted children provided the desire and interest is there. Blind children often have a strong sense of rhythm and musical sensation since their hearing is more in tuned with the world. Of course the assumption should not be made that just because they are blind they should play a musical instrument. However if a child or an adult who is visually impaired decides that playing a musical instrument is something they would find beneficial, then by all means, there should be every consideration made just as you would for a sighted individual. There are instruments which are better suited for the visually impaired than others. Most string instruments are a good musical instrument for the visually impaired because the strings can be easily felt in order, especially for the violin, viola, and cello. The piano and woodwind musical instruments can also make very good choices for the visually impaired when learning to play a musical instrument. They are considered the easiest of the musical instruments to memorize tactilely and are fairly versatile in the musical arrangements they can be applied to playing. However, there is of course no restriction to the possibilities. It is usually not necessary to find the visually impaired musical student a specially trained music teacher. A teacher that is creative and patient (which we would hope all music teachers are) should be able to help the visually impaired student feel the musical instrument of their choice in order to learn to play it competently. Musical instruments often are able to be handled by the visually impaired simply because their design and structure is quite unique from a tactile standpoint. Children and adults from all walks of life should learn to play at least one musical instrument. Learning to play a musical instrument teaches so many skills at once that it can be difficult to find a downfall to learning to play a musical instrument regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what type of disability you may bring to the table. It should never be assumed that simply because an individual doesn't see the world that they can't fully participate in it. Learning to play a musical instrument is just one way of reaching out through the world and bringing the world as we know it to life. <bio>Kuersten Steizer writes about http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com </bio>

A member of the woodwind family, the recorder's history is not well known, although examples of it can be found in medieval paintings, and what appears to be a recognizable recorder-type instrument dating back to the Iron Age has been found =96 although it is made of sheep bone rather than wood! The instrument, however, often gets a bad press, largely due to people's recollections of struggling to learn the instrument in the classroom =96 or perhaps being unfortunate enough to have to teach the instrument to several new classes each and every year.

Considering the fact that it is so commonly used as a learning instrument, it is actually quite difficult to get a smooth, warm tone out of a recorder, and very easy to end up with a screech or a bending note. However, with practice, the recorder can be made to produce a beautiful sound, with its distinct warm, woody tones and even vibrato. The instrument was certainly taken seriously during the Renaissance; Bach, Purcell and Vivaldi wrote music for it.

School Use

There are plenty of very good reasons why the recorder has entrenched itself in the national psyche as a school instrument. First, it is relatively cheap to make, consisting basically of a tube with holes and a mouthpiece =96 there are no moving parts. This is enhanced by the fact that they can also be made of plastic and therefore mass-produced. Second, they are durable, tough instruments that will withstand a bit of abuse. Third, they are monophonic, so simple tunes can be learnt on them that do not tax the young player too much, and therefore sheet music is much easier to read. Fourth, they are small and easy to carry about in a satchel or bag. And fifth, they never need tuning as they are pre-tuned =96 there are no strings to slacken.

Unfortunately, rigidly observed school curricula quite often meant that people with no interest in music were forced to learn the instrument, and those who were interested might not have been overenthusiastic about playing rounds of London's Burning with the teacher doing a Toscanini at the front of the class. This could explain the humour and scornful nostalgia associated with the instrument. In mitigation, however, nobody leaves school without knowing that all cows eat grass and that every good boy deserves something beginning with an F, be it food, football, fudge or fun =96 or should that be five-a-day?

Range and Fingering

A recorder has a range of just over two octaves, with the lowest note being the tone produced when every hole is closed with the fingers. Since most learning instruments will be in the key of C, that will be the tone produced. Recorders do come in other keys, however. F is also a common key, and more specialist instruments come in D, E flat and G. A little known fact is that recorders are actually chromatic =96 they can play all twelve tones in an octave including sharps and flats. This is done by half-covering certain holes, but isn't required in Frere Jacques. <bio>Charlie Buquette wrote this article for Chappell of Bond Street ( http://www.chappellofbondstreet.co.uk ) about Recorder Sheet Music. </bio>

There are numerous nightclubs in Toronto because clubbing is part of Toronto resident culture. This has led to the emergence of numerous clubs and Deejays who play music in these clubs. Nightclub Deejays must have professional knowledge of playing music to entertain various categories of audiences in the clubs. There are many different categories of occasions held in these nightclubs. These include wedding night parties, birthday parties as well as bachelor parties.

Professional DJs have learnt how to appeal to all these different tastes of audience in nightclubs. For example, a bachelor party audience has different taste compared to a wedding night party audience. Deejays play different music mixes depending on the occasion. During wedding dinner night parties, Toronto's DJs may ply love songs, which serve to harmonise the overall mood of the party. Old and middle aged audiences prefer slow music and frequent wedding night parties. With this knowledge in mind, the DJs entertain the audience by mixing the correct genre of music.

Young audiences who love loud and fast music such as rock frequent rock parties. Nightclub deejays must satisfy their needs by choosing and mixing the correct kind of music. Many schools offer music mixing courses thus producing specialized deejays. Each DJ specializes with a certain genre of music. Therefore, there are DJs for rock, soul, blues, reggae, and jazz and salsa music. One chooses a DJ depending on the nature of occasion taking place in a nightclub. In the past, choosing a DJ was an uphill task because one had to visit nightclubs to gauge the performance of a DJ.

With invention of the internet, people are saved from this problem because many deejays in Toronto have designed websites where one books for DJ services during an event. The websites have profiles of different DJs thus enabling one to choose a DJ of choice easily. Popular DJs such as Tommy paps perform in nightclubs such as park lane.

Nightclub DJs also mix live music. Many deejays prefer mixing jazz music that creates an uplifting atmosphere in many occasions such as weddings, military functions and birthday parties. The DJs have experience of mixing different types of jazz music such as solo and quintet jazz. The cost of hiring a nightclub DJ depends on the experience and expertise of a Deejay. Popular deejays belonging to Carwash Jazz band have gained a lot of fame and reputation from their mixing mastery. They are always in high demand thus one should book their services early prior to the occasion.

Other popular nightclub deejays belong to the Toni James band that specializes in jazz music. Toni James band's deejays travel many cities of Canada mixing their recorded music. At other times, the band performs live in nightclubs where the DJ mixes their music. While hiring a nightclub DJ, one should choose a DJ relevant with the type of occasion. This is easily done by understanding the DJs profile written in the website. One should also read comments in the blogs to have first hand information about the Deejay performance.<bio>Toronto NightClub Directory If you are looking for Ontario, Toronto and GTA area NightClub, then you have arrived at our courtesy Toronto and GTA Night Club Directory Listing.
