Many people today have realized the dream of being completely off the grid by combining wind and solar energy. Small sized affordable wind generators are available today for the home user, and they are being combined with photovoltaic cells for power generation. It's obvious that fossil fuel energy costs are going to keep on rising making it harder to afford getting power from the grid. The time is more than ripe for solar wind energy to be one of the solutions to rising energy costs, and to take us off of fossil fuel energy dependence.

Wind Turbines

Wind turbines are actually very simple machines. They consist of 3 parts: rotor blades, a shaft, and a generator. The rotor blades act like a propeller that turns the shaft when the wind flows through them. The shaft then turns the generator and a current is generated. About eighty-five percent of all off-grid systems use solar wind energy.

The new micro as well as mini wind turbines are very popular with sailors, and are now starting to be more popular with home owners in Europe and the UK. Mini turbines are very cost effective and will only cost about $1,500 to $2,500. They are perfect for generating electricity if you live off the grid in remote rural areas. It's satisfying to think about having solar wind energy provide for all your energy needs and also knowing that you never have to depend on utility companies.

Photovoltaic Cells

The typical home solar power system consists mainly of these:

a)Photovoltaic Panels

b)Charge Controller Module

c)Batteries (optional)

d)Inverter

Photovoltaic panels convert sunlight into an electric current. The type of current generated by a photovoltaic panel array is DC or direct current. For this current to be usable in most common households, it has to be converted into AC or alternating current. That's where the inverter comes in. It's job is to convert DC into AC current.

Solar wind energy systems are also called hybrid energy systems because the use a combination of solar and wind power to generate electricity. The wind turbines are mostly used during the winter months (in the northern hemisphere) when the sun's vertical rays are mostly directed toward the southern hemisphere, and days tend to be short and cloudy. During summer months, photovoltaic cells would supplement greatly along with the wind turbine.

By using hybrid solar wind energy systems, a homeowner has the option of using or omitting batteries for storage. Homeowners also have the choice of being "Grid-Tied" or "Net Metered". This means that your solar wind energy system has the ability to provide electricity not only for your house, but the power company as well. This way, if your solar wind energy system generated more energy than was used, the energy can be sold back to the power company. When you're selling energy back to the company, your power meter runs backward. The "net metered" system therefore is highly recommended. The grid also works as your "battery backup" when your hybrid solar wind energy system doesn't provide for your power demands.

Net-metered systems are also recommended because they are easier to install, cost less, and offer better performance.<bio>Find out more about how you can save money with solar energy.
The term green energy refers to the generation of power, usually electrical power, through renewable resources =96 in other words, using energy sources that dont run out because weve used some of them. Green energy contrasts with power provided by fossil fuel, the emissions of which create toxic hydrocarbons that make us and our earth sick. Some green energy sources are sun, wind and water.

Green energy produced by the sun is called solar energy, generally captured through solar panels. There are two types of these solar panels. Each uses its own technology to create this green solar energy. Solar water heater collectors are green energy panels that absorb the suns energy and transfer it to water to heat it Solar or photovoltaic electric panels transform the radiation from the sun directly into electrical energy. For the best efficiency in solar green energy homeowners or contractors should mount the panels on a roof that faces south and at a 30 degree angle from the horizontal, and not near any shade or shadow caused by surrounding buildings, trees or chimneys.

Solar energy systems for water hearing are the most popular green energy in use in the United Kingdom. Connected to a homes hot water system, the solar panels provide more than half of each UK households hot water for a year. The two choices in solar collectors to heat water are evacuated tubes or flat plates.

Wind has been a source of green energy for several years. The primary early use of this green energy is to pump water and mill grain. Recently improvements in the technology of wind turbines have enabled the use of harnessed wind for the generation of electricity. In high wind areas such as Palm Springs CA, for example, youll see hundreds of wind turbines turning continually on the hills along the major thoroughfares. The electricity these generate then get exported to a grid for local use or for energizing a standalone application.

Wind as green energy has enormous potential both offshore and onshore for farming. It is one of the safest and cleanest of any of the renewable energy methods. The largest green energy source is the UKs use of wind energy. There youll find small green energy battery charging by wind at the lower end of the wind energy spectrum and huge wind farms that produce vast amounts of electricity at the higher end. While wind is currently producing less than one percent of the worlds energy green or otherwise, it has the potential for providing more than 10 percent. The expectation is that this will happen within the next twenty years, especially due to its highly competitive cost. Green energy from wind is very simple to create and maintain, and still leaves the surrounding land available for farming or development.

Of course, as with any green energy, neither solar or wind energy produce emissions or pollutants during their operation. About the only negative for either is the fact that some folks object to the look of the wind turbines, claiming it has a negative visual impact. Others disagree. <bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk </bio>

Wind power has long been a source of renewable energy, as evidenced by the many windmills of centuries past. The flow of air is used to run wind turbines, some of which can produce up to 5 megawatts of power. The most common wind turbines for renewable energy used commercially produce between 1.5 and 3 megawatts. The renewable energy that a wind turbine gives off is derived by the cube of the speed of the wind. As the speed of the wind increases the power that the turbine puts out increases almost exponentially. In places where wind is strong and nearly continual such as at high altitudes and offshore are the best places to locate wind farms.

Wind is the fastest growing source of power through any of the renewable energy resources and technologies. In the past ten years, the maximum capacity of wind power installed the world over went from a 1992 high of 2500 megawatts to a high of 40,000 in 2003 and continued to grow each year after that by another 30 percent. This shows no signs of abating. Due to wind being an intermittent energy resource most wind turbines in the European Union only produce an average of one fourth of the power they are actually capable of. Under favourable wind conditions, however, some reach 35 percent or more. In winter the EU realizes a higher load factor. What this means is that wind as a renewable energy in Europe typically has a capacity for 5 megawatts maximum per turbine but regularly produces 1.7 megawatts.

The long term potential for wind as a reliable renewable energy resource throughout the global is probably about five times what it currently produces and forty times what is currently demanded of it. Large pieces of land that are not now being used for wind turbines could easily do so, especially in high wind areas. The offshore areas, where wind is nearly twice as fast and dependable as that of inshore land masses could be increased substantially as renewable wind energy sources.

The strength of the wind near the surface of the earth varies considerably and scientists cannot assure that the earth would have continuous renewable wind energy there unless it was combined with other sources of energy or stored in some way. Some suggest that 1000 megawatts of the capacity for conventional wind gathering could be counted on to produce 333 megawatts of power that is continuous. This could change as our technology evolves, but most experts suggest using wind in the context of a renewable energy system that has an expansive capacity for reserving the energy. Examples of these would be hydro power, desalination plants, reserve loads and the mitigation of the economic impact of variability of resources.

Not only is wind power a renewable energy, but like other renewable energies it gives off no harmful greenhouse gases while being operated =96 no methane, no carbon dioxide. The one negative of wind power is that bats and birds get caught up in the turbines and get killed. Wind turbines should, therefore, be built where this impact would be least felt. <bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.plumbingcareer.co.uk </bio>

With the rising energy costs and effects of global warming so prevalent today, many people are wondering if there is truth to the concept of renewable energy technology. There also appears to be confusion between alternative energy technology and renewable energy technology. Alternative energy encompasses all renewable energy sources, but includes things like nuclear power and energy from municipal waste. These are carbonaceous examples. Renewable energy technology focuses on energy that is replaced as it is being used, such as solar energy and wind energy.

With that clear, are there truly benefits on a home or small business level to renewable solar technology? Absolutely. Truthfully, by utilizing renewable energy technology on a home level you can save yourself thousands of dollars each year. Renewable energy technology has gained popularity in recent years and it has become increasingly easy to meet your home's energy needs with just a little handyman work. With the information available about renewable energy technology, it is possible to build renewable energy products, such as a windmill or solar panel, on your own. Do-it-yourselfers are saving huge amounts of pocket change by building and installing these systems themselves. If you have the money to invest in a commercial professionally installed system, in general these are more efficient, however, savings can still be realized, and at a much faster rate, by researching and building your own renewable energy systems.

Renewable energy technology is advancing with each day. Solar electrical systems have advanced from giant roof panels to thin layers of film that are twice as conductive and work with less sunlight. There are now solar powered charges for cell phones, batteries and other small household items. Windmills have been made more aerodynamic for greater action and electricity generation. Renewable energy technology can even be seen along today's highways as small solar/wind operation stations powering signs and lights.

Many homeowners today are looking into integrating green energy sources for developing more energy efficient homes and businesses. A green energy source is power generated through renewable resources, such as the sun, wind and water. The other benefit of green energy sources is their low contribution to global warming, pollution and other environmental issues.

The most popular of green energy sources is the sun. Energy captured from the sun is called solar energy. Of the green energy sources, solar energy is the most popular because it offers multiple options for use. It is possible to harness electrical energy from the sun using solar panels consisting of photovoltaic cells that convert energy from the sun into electricity you can use in your home or business. There are also solar hot water collectors that use the heat of the sun to produce hot water. These solar green energy sources are readily available and increasing in popularity as most homes and businesses can have them mounted on their roof and they can take advantage of lowered utility costs.

The most efficient of green energy sources is wind. Wind has been used to power water pumps for centuries, but has grown in popularity as a way to supplement home and business electricity needs. Wind is the safest and cleanest of the green energy sources as it produces no pollutants and does not contribute to global warming. Wind energy is harnessed by erecting a turbine that spins in the breeze generating electricity. Unlike the sun, which can be found almost anywhere, in order to utilize wind as a green energy source, you must live in an area where wind is readily available.

Water is also a viable participant of green energy sources. Water is less widely used as a green energy source for homes, as not all homes have an available stream to produce the needed electricity. The Amish have used water to power entire shops using conveyer belt systems, so it is an old practice, but it is still being used successfully today. As with solar and wind energy, energy harnessed from moving water is almost completely pollutant free and is generated from a renewable resource.<bio>The truth is renewable energy technology is working and you can put it to work for you in your home or business. Investing in green energy sources for your home and business needs can add dollars to your wallet and years to the life of our Earth.</bio>

Wind power is growing in popularity as an alternative to fossil fuel and one of the best of the renewable energy sources. The use of wind power requires wind turbines. Wind turbine generators do little to harm the environment and are far preferable in this regard to fossil fuel. The only disadvantage is that they cannot be used everywhere. In order to effectively use turbines to generate wind power you would need an average wind speed of at least 13 miles per hour. Obviously, that is not found everywhere.

Palm Springs California is ideal for wind turbines that generate power and as you pass through there along highway 10 you will see these wind turbines in various sizes. Called a wind farm, This San Bernadino Mountain area has over 4000 windmills in its San Gorgonio Mountain Pass. These turbines provide enough wind power to provide electricity to all of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area as a whole. Most of the current wind power generation in the U.S. resides in California.

The largest of the wind power windmills is 150 feet in height with blades that stretch halfway across a football field. There are compartments at the windmills top that house its generators, its hub and its gearbox. These weigh at least 30,000 and as much as 45,000 pounds. At this size the turbine for wind power may cost more than 300,000 but will provide 300 kilowatts each hour. This amount of wind power is enough to keep one typical household in electrical power for an entire month.

The American Wind Energy Association AWEA is a U.S. =96 wide non-profit organization promoting wind power as a clean electrical source for consumers the world over. AWEA represents developers of wind power projects, those who are in the business of supplying wind power equipment, wind power service providers, manufacturers of wind power parts, utilities that provide wind power for electrical power, scientists researching green energy resources that include the use of wind power and others involved in any way in the wind power industry. Hundreds of advocates of wind power are also members of AWEA.

The American Wind Energy Association provides the latest information on the operation of current or potential wind power projects, the ongoing development of new wind power projects, companies who work in the burgeoning industry, the development of new wind energy technology, and government legislation and policies that pertain to the use, production and funding of wind power and other renewable energies.

AWEA acts as a clearing house for the wind power industry, and as such communicates the pertinent statistics, facts and news. From AWEA consumers and others can find out the latest legislative decisions and efforts, including the best information on grants and loans to aid in the implementation of residential, commercial and governmental wind power projects.

AWEA publishes and disseminates the only weekly wind power newsletter that exists anywhere. It also hosts an annual wind power conference, with presentations on the latest technological developments and trends as well as access to businesses offering help in its implementation. <bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk/domestic-energy-assessor-training.htm </bio>

With oil prices shooting through the roof and our growing dependence on imported oil, it is high time we look for viable solutions for our energy needs beyond oil and coal. We should explore alternative sources for our daily energy needs.

The possibility of international oil prices touching $200 a barrel is no longer an impossibility, it is a harsh reality faced by most countries throughout the world. The price of oil has doubled since this time last year.

So, what is the solution to the energy crisis. The world demand is exceeding the supply of fossil fuels. The future that lies ahead is an increase in consumption that is only going to make matters worse. While exploring for alternate sources that are sustainable, it has not reached the level where it can feed a major part of the energy requirement that is currently oil dependent.

While we are unable to find alternative sources to provide energy on a grand scale, there are viable options for the average consumer. Solar and wind being the most common sources of alternative energy that the consumer can deploy to help fight the energy crisis. Residential solar power is still quite expensive for the average consumer to afford to install. The only real viable, cost effective solution is that of wind power.

Wind power comes in the form of residential home wind generators. It is clean energy and helps protect the environment. By installing a windmill to generate electricity you may be entitled to a rebate from the state depending on where you live. Another benefit of wind power is that the utility company will actually pay you for any excess electricity you produce. While wind turbines are still a little expensive for some consumers there are many that can be had for under $200.

There is information available as to how you can obtain home wind generators for under $200.

The concerns about the environment have hampered our ability to continue to rely on fossil fuels. The way of the future is through alternative energy sources. I have personally installed a home wind generator and it has saved me $100's already. They are very easy to install, even for the novice. There are plans available that allow you to have your system up and running within a couple of hours. I learned everything I needed to learn from a cool little website I found http://earth-4-energy-solutions.blogspot.com. It was full of helpful advice about installing your own home wind generator.

If you want to stop emptying your pockets on high energy costs you will want to look into an alternative form of energy. MY advice is that a simple, cost effective home wind generator will save you $100's a year. You will have your initial investment back in a matter of a couple of months and the savings will continue to pile up.

Folks, the energy situation is not going to get any better and no one is going to help you, including the government. You will have to act on your own behalf.
The energy crunch is a real worldwide crisis as fossil fuel supplies decrease and populations increase. Utility costs are going up in pace with the increasing demand for electricity. It's no wonder that the alternative energy arena is a quickly growing market with millions of dollars invested every year. And of these great clean renewable energy sources, wind and solar power show the most promise.

What is really exciting is the realization of the incredibly high level of abundance of energy that is radiated by the sun. The amount is actually quite unfathomable. Studies have shown that the amount of energy received from the earth by the sun in just one hour is enough to satisfy the entire world's electricity demand for an entire year! It really puts in perspective the grandeur of this almost endless source of energy.

When you think about it, the sun is really the source of all life on the planet as well as the driving force for all the weather patterns on earth. It is also the driving force behind every web of life and all of the earth's cycles. This leads us to the other nearly endless abundant source of energy: Wind.

As long as the earth spins on its axis and the sun radiates upon it, weather patterns and the winds that are produced will always occur. Weather patterns consist of the complex and often chaotic relationship between water, the sun's energy, and the cooling and heating of air masses throughout the atmosphere. It's a constant interaction and clashing of cool (low pressure) air masses and hot (high pressure) air masses with water molecules usually in vapor or condensed states. It's a very complex dance, but the result in many parts of the world is constant wind. One of the many places where winds blow constantly is the Great Plains region of North America, from northern Texas all the way to Canada.

Constant winds and the very simple yet efficient technology of wind turbines lead to a very clean and renewable source of electricity. Once again, the abundance of the source of energy is so great that it is difficult to put it in perspective. A study by Stanford University in 2005 showed that there is enough wind energy worldwide to satisfy 7 times the global demand. And that's if only 20% of all the wind is captured!

So why is it that the human beings on the planet have not collectively headed toward using solar wind energy to meet global demands on a large scale and fully replace fossil fuels? Why haven't large energy corporations and all governments invested trillions in wind and solar power by now? We all have a pretty good idea why, but that's a whole other article. The purpose of this article is to inspire a call to action for solar and wind power, and to inform the reader that the revolution toward renewable energy starts with you the individual! How you may ask? By making your own solar wind home energy system.

Making your own solar wind energy system is totally doable today in a very cost effective way. Home solar power systems these days can run between $20 and $50 thousand depending on capacity. But there is a resource where you can learn how to make your own photovoltaic panels and your own wind turbines for under $200. If you are interested or inspired to supplement your electricity and cut down costs, you have to check out Michael Harvey's manual for generating your own electricity. Remember the massive abundance of these energy sources, and you'll be inspired to help yourself and the earth as well.<bio>At Esolarsite, we're excited about the promise of solar power and would love to share some information on products and tips regarding solar power.Check out this great manual that will have your home made wind and solar power system set up in no time.
Affordable Solar Energy

The cost of obtaining solar energy is decreasing. The cost of solar energy systems and the cost of solar energy panels is more reachable than ever before. Essentially, the cost of solar energy panels is less in price and produce more electricity. This is only natural to occur seeing the trend of technology. Things such as the cost of installing solar energy starts off expensive and then gradually drops. The cost of solar wind generators can be found for less than $800.00, while an the cost of an entire solar energy system can be purchased for less than $12,000.00.

There are many prices to think about based on your needs. Whether you are looking for a solar water heater, solar panels, solar wall heaters ($600-$800.), or generator, price ranges can peak at $4000.00 or less for the heaters, or more based on what you are buying, like the panels which go up with wattage.

The years of the big spenders having the solar energy is pretty much over. Prices of solar energy have come down to earth so much that even the normal everyday homeowner can get in on it. Residential solar energy costs are getting lower all the time. You can search many invaluable websites that have everything from solar panels, to solar wind generators, storage, the entire solar energy system itself. Some things are pricey, yes, but overall, what I have seen out there is fairly reasonable, and when it is installed, there is just something very appealing about it that makes the initial upfront cost worth it.

Costs of solar energy will involve the purchase of solar energy panels which can generate 50-500 watts a piece, the solar energy generator for transforming solar energy into electricity usable by the homeowners. Solar energy panels can power many things in your home. Think about all your lights, and their individual wattage. Calculate the watts generated by a solar panel. These are some of the things you need to think about. A home solar energy system can be explained by a professional, as they assess your needs. They can further explain all the energy assessments needed fro configuring your home solar energy system.

Their are many things you can do to put into practice for saving energy. If you do not ahve a home yet, pick up some of the energy saving light bulbs that all utility companies offer for free! Leave your AC on when needed, and program it in cycles when you're not at home. There are appliances, lights, computers that can be turned off or on low to conserve energy. When you do get that dream home, your mindset will be energy saving and hopefully cost savings on solar energy!

Whatever your decision. do your homework. Study solar energy, its benefits, non-benefits, the pros and cons. Ask yourself, will it become a necessity in the future? Should I just invest in it now? Do not jump into it blindly. Remember, knowledge is power. Use it to your advantage.<bio> This text is a link to a page on the World Wide Web.</bio>

Because Japan is extremely well populated, it is sometimes more difficult to break the Japanese market than you would break any other market. If you are nonetheless capable to exploit installations near the shore or maybe offshore installations, then you could have the possibility to make a profit out of wind energy. However, when going offshore for the business, it becomes more expensive, due to the existence of construction of foundations. The wind is also stronger and this can amount to higher costs. The equipment you will need will also need to be updated constantly because technology advances by the day. Therefore, the prices per kilowatt hour has decreased, since the turbines have become more efficient. Therefore, if comparing wind energy with other types of energy nowadays, this industry of wind energy is one of the most competitive. Therefore, you need to be able to utilize locations near the sea, where there is a lot of wind and then maintain a competitive prices comparable to the prices in the other industries. Take the example of the biggest wind turbine producer, based in Denmark, the Vestas company. This company has invested in Japan to put an accent on wind energy capable of generating electricity. Vestas is currently on the lookout for locations to base its factories thus seeking doing research and development in the field.

In Japan, there is the sense that people need to be able to produce their own energy because it is imperative that they don't use imported energy. Therefore, despite being isolated on an island, there is the need to start producing energy, but with so few natural resources it is almost impossible. Therefore, Japan needs to invest in energy production and become overt to foreign investment seeking to implement their solutions in Japan. It is only through this method that Japan will be able to become energy independent. By allowing companies such as Vestas in the involvement of research, Japan is extending the ways it is actively seeking for energy production. Wind produced energy represents probably, one of the most successful competitors so far.

Moreover, energy production under the name of microhydoelectric power has become to catch as a trend in the Japanese world; because Japan is home to a large number of rivers as well as mountain streams, these are ideal places to install microhydoelectric plants, to produce energy from the water. This move has been known as the technology development of industrial and new energy technology. To make a comparison, the label named minihydroelectric power can accommodate more than one thousand kilowatts per electrical energy.

Therefore, as a conclusion, the power plants, both mini as well as micro hydroelectric power at a small scale have become suitable to create electricity in high-altitude regions, in mountainous regions. For instance, it is useful in creating electricity in such regions. The Kawasaki City Waterworks or the Natural Energy Company established in Japan and the Power Company established in Tokyo. These power plants possess certain characteristics and have been involved so far so that the hydroelectric technology can be developed in Japan.<bio>Discover the importance of educating citizens about alternative energy as well as te truth in using wind power as alternative energy when you visit the Internet's foremost authority on alternative home energy sources at http://www.replaceablegas.com</bio>

One essential part of any wind project's development is the wind power feasibility study. This study undertakes a thorough analysis of a variety of factors to determine how viable a wind project will be and how much power can be produced. A feasibility study is used to keep the various stakeholders on the same page about a project in the early development stage of a wind project. Further, should a project be deemed unviable, the feasibility study will have saved stakeholders a great deal of time and money. The feasibility study, therefore, serves as a keystone for the wind energy development project.

To get an accurate read on a wind project's potential, the feasibility study must first include analysis of wind speeds and air density. Wind power output is a cubic function of wind speed and air density, so gaining these data for an area is crucial to understanding the area's wind power potential. A feasibility study must also carefully consider transmission and interconnection availability. Dearth of transmission lines for new energy projects is one of the wind industry's biggest setbacks. For a wind project to be successful, the study must show that a wind project has good chances of being connected to the grid and being able to transmit power to areas of high need such as metropolitan centers.

In addition to gaining an idea of transmission and interconnection possibilities, getting a feel for land control possibilities is another central facet of any feasibility study. For any registered plot of land, the owner holds one set of wind rights. He/she cannot agree to put a turbine from one company on one part of this land and another turbine from another company on another part. If land has already been tied up by another wind developer, a new wind project will likely need to refocus its development area on a different location or meet its end.

A feasibility study must also include permitting requests with federal, state, and local levels of government; without these permits, a wind project will never see fruition. On a similar note, the feasibility study needs to address fatal environmental and development flaws. At this early stage, it is important to submit permitting requests, but the actual permits may take months to be granted. Doing an independent analysis of fatal flaws will save time and money, should the study discover valid reason to cancel the project. Further, while other environmental aspects may not make or break a project, it is important to consider wetland and soil condition along with the potential impact on protected species of the region. If wetlands are too pervasive, a wind power project may not have enough available land for its turbine placements. If potential impacts on wildlife are deemed too likely and/or too severe, a wind project may not move forward due to the project owners' concerns or petitions and protests from landowners or environmental groups.

Finally, a feasibility study must also take into account high level economic issues. Will the owners be able to acquire adequate financing beyond the initial seed capital? What are the economic prospects for the expected rate of return and how much risk is involved in the investment? These questions must also be answered in the wind power project feasibility study before development moves forward.

So many factors are involved in wind energy project's success -- these must be considered not only in the feasibility study, but also throughout the project's development. As the project advances, new areas of interest emerge, including the acquisition of turbines and turbine financing, the negotiation of power purchase agreements, and the contracting of construction crews. As more wind projects go up, the length and complexity of the process will likely be mitigated, as each stakeholder becomes more familiar with the procedures and policies of wind power project development. The involved process of wind power project development may seem daunting, but, when completed, wind power projects provide clean, native, renewable energy for generations to come -- making all the hard work worth it.<bio>Learn more about wind power systems, wind energy project development and management, wind power feasibility study, and potential wind power resource assessments.</bio>

Rooftop wind turbines offer a relatively inexpensive way to participate in the rush to renewable energy. The principle allure is low installation cost. Typically, tower installations for larger turbines add 50-80% to the cost of the system. With a rooftop turbine, an $800 tower is replaced by a $39 roof mounted tripod, or a length of pipe attached to the side of the house.

According to Ron Stimmel of the American Wind Energy Association, "...rooftop turbines still account for only 1 percent or so of the 10,000 small wind turbines that are sold each year in the country." For this reason, few performance statistics are available from actual owners.

It's possible, however, to get an idea of the estimated power output of a rooftop turbine from the manufacturer's website. For example, the Energy Performance chart for Southwest Wind power's 200W Air Breeze predicts 20-30 kWh (kilowatt hours) per month from 10-12 mph winds occurring 6 hours per day.

To put this in perspective, 30 kWh is less than 5% of the power consumed each month by the average household. Overall, the payback from a single, roof mounted turbine in tangible financial terms leaves a lot to be desired; especially in light of the fact that unlike solar, there is no Federal tax credit for residential wind power.

But anyone thinking about installing a rooftop turbine(s) is probably aware of this already. The rooftop wind enthusiast is not motivated by financial relief, but rather the intangible rewards of pride of ownership, walking the walk, or simple satisfaction as a hobbyist.

Motivation aside, it doesn't make sense on any level to proceed with a wind powered project unless the three following requirements are met:

1. Higher than average cost per kWh. The more you pay per kWh for electricity, the more economical wind power becomes. A rule of thumb in the wind turbine industry states a residential wind powered system shouldn't be considered unless you pay $0.10 or more per kWh for electricity.

The easiest way to determine your cost per kWh is divide the current monthly balance on your electric bill by kWh usage (also plainly stated on your bill).

2. Building codes. Visit your building department to find out if there are any zoning restrictions for roof top turbines. Don't build your rooftop system first and ask questions later - only to be told it violates zoning laws and must come down.

3. Minimum wind speed. Wind speed of 7 mph, or 3 m/s (meters per second) is the start up speed for just about every wind turbine. However, in order to get any "juice" out of the turbine, minimum wind speeds of 10-12 mph for 6 hours per day are necessary.

Although wind speed charts for the United States and Canada are available to help site larger turbines, they're of little use for rooftop systems because the data is collected at a minimum altitude of 30 meters (98.4 feet).

However, you can get a good idea of the wind speed at proposed turbine locations by purchasing an anemometer (wind speed meter) for around $150. The kit comes with a rooftop sensor, 60' of cable and mounting hardware for the read out display. These are not data logging meters, so you'll have to keep notes on your observations.

If you're really serious about wind speed data collection, you can purchase a data logging anemometer kit with tracking software for $400.

Depending on where you live, wind speeds generally fluctuate with the seasons. Readings taken during the hot summer months of July and August, when you're begging for a breeze, are not usually a reliable indicator of average yearly wind speed.

Also, rooftop turbines located at the edge of a long flat roof experience much more wind than those located on roof peaks.

If, after a month or two of collecting data you determine there just isn't enough wind for a rooftop wind turbine, you can always resell the anemometer and turn your attention towards solar.<bio>Home Improvement with Alternative Energy Heating Useful alternative energy information since 2005.</bio>

When we talk about renewable energy we are referring to power that delivers energy from resources that will not be depleted because of our use of them. Renewable energy is an alternative to non-renewable fossil fuel energy for reasons other than the factor of non-depletion.

One basic benefit of renewable energy, and the reason environmentalists all over the globe are advocate its use, is that it does give off greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants as do the by-products of burning fossil fuel for energy. Renewable energy such as solar power, water power and wind power, while the widespread discussion of which is new, are anything but new.

In both newly developing and highly developed countries wind, sun and water have long been used as power sources, though not to the extent of providing the primary energy source for large metropolitan communities.

The mass production of such renewable energy is become commonplace in recent years as more and more people come to realize how climate is changing due to the pollution of fossil fuel gases, due to the exhaustion of the availability of these fossil fuels and the political and social concerns of energy sources such as nuclear power.

Many countries and non-profit environmentally-conscious organizations are encouraging the use of renewable energy sources by passing legislation on tax incentives for their use and subsidies to offset the added expense of converting from fossil fuel to renewable energy.

The flow of renewable energy involves phenomena that occur naturally in our world. Tides, sunlight, wind and heat derived by geothermal occurrences all provide renewable energy. Each of these energy sources is unique both in where we can use them and how.

Most technology that converts renewable energy into power sources we can use are powered at least in part by the Sun if not directly at least indirectly. The earths atmospheric system stays in such equilibrium that the heat that it gives off radiates into space to an amount equal to the radiation that comes to earth from the sun.

The result of this energy level within the atmosphere is roughly translated to the climate of the earth. The water of the earth, also referred to its hydrosphere, absorbs a lot of the radiation that comes to us from the sun.

Most of the radiation gets absorbed at the lower latitudes of the earth that exist around the equator. This energy gets dissipated all around the globe, however, in the form of ocean and wind currents.

The motion of the ocean waves might have a role in transference of mechanical energy between the ocean and the earths atmosphere by way of wind stress. Solar energy also provides the means by which precipitations is distributed and then tapped by hydroelectric energy projects as well as plant growth that then creates biofuels. <bio>James Copper writes for http://www.propertycareerskills.co.uk who offer energy assessor training courses for people who wish to change career. </bio>

The United States Department of Energy has devoted itself to the cause of renewable energy promotion with its creation of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden Colorado.

This renewable energy program facility offers programs in a wide variety of renewable energy topics which span the various green energy resources such as wind, water, sun, biomass and even nuclear. NREL also conducts ongoing research and development in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Each area of research is further enhanced by functions that cut across the various programs and reach out to industries for partnerships. These collaborations on renewable energy could include the transfer of technology, energy analysis and the integration of the various programs of each collaborator.

The 12 program areas of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are wind and hydropower technology intergovernmental projects on weatherization the technology of solar energy industrial energy efficient technology the technology of fuel cells, hydrogen and building infrastructures geothermal technology the technology of vehicles and the Freedom Car energy management by the U.S. federal government energy-efficient building systems biomass and analytic studies. Each of these NREL programs is conducted by technology management experts whose capabilities and expertise span the programs wide renewable energy technology range.

The Analytic Studies Program at NREL studies a wide variety of renewable energy analysis to support the programs and initiatives in place at the Lab. It also works with the Department of Educations Office for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy EERE as well as the energy analysis community at large. The labs Office of Energy Analysis integrates this analysis and supports its functions and the functions of the various research programs and centres of technology throughout the NREL.

Those who study renewable energy analysis do so in five major interest areas. They look at the technologies involved in renewable energy, the benefits of the initiatives, and the markets for renewable energy, the policies that affect its implementation and embracement, and the analysis of the various programs. Many research programs are covered that include assessments of life cycles, vehicular systems, Web-based applications to assess renewable energy possibilities and programs. The aim of this analysis is to understand how technology, policy, markets and the various software applications can interactive to the success of expansive and continuing renewable energy programs.

The study of biomass is an important ingredient in the renewable energy implementation. Biomass offers a terrific opportunity to make use of sustainable as well as domestic resources for the production of power and fuel and the meeting of chemical needs through plants and t he material derived from them. Biomass starts with grasses, trees, biological material and agriculture. These can be used as renewable energy, either solid or through conversion to liquid or gas. These can produce electricity, chemicals, fuel or heat.

An important part of this NREL program is the development of energy-efficient and cost effective biomass technology that will reduce the U.S. dependence on oil from foreign countries, while it grows rural economies in our own country and improves the quality of our air. <bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk/domestic-energy-assessor-training.htm </bio>

If you haven't heard all the talk about Renewable Energy, you must have been living in a cave for the last 10 years. Even so, if you were in a cave I am sure someone would have told you about solar energy, wind power or hydro power. These are all examples of renewable energy, that are being used in to days world and with the concern of Global Warming, at no other time in our history has this concept been more important. Governments to homeowners are all looking for alternatives to carbon producing coal and oil, and this effort has been further boosted by the rising prices of energy making all of us look for alternative ways to heat and light their home.

Solar Electricity, electricity from the sun!

From sunrise to sunset the sun produces an unimaginable amount of energy each and every day, and all you have to do is tap into that energy. You can use a solar collector to help heat the water in your home or use a Solar cell to convert the sun's energy to electricity, and if you have ever used a solar calculator I am sure you understand the idea. This has moved on from the calculator to cells helping to providing power to homes, cars, street lamps, cell phones the list is endless. You will find solar cells helping provide power from the Artic to the equator.

Wind Energy

For thousands of years man has harnessed the power of the wind, it used to be the only way a ship could get across the oceans. You will have also seen windmills that harnessed to power of the wind to grind grains or to pump water. Nowadays we are harnessing the power of the wind to create a clean source of electricity in all parts of the world. Wind Farms have been appearing all over the countryside, and can produce enough electricity to power thousands of homes. They are surprisingly simple in how they work, the blades of the windmill and connected to an electrical generator through the use of gears and shafts, that mean when the blades turn electricity is created by the generator.

Water Power

Water power is another example of renewable energy that has been used for hundreds of years. The earliest machines were waterwheels, which back then, provided power for grain mills and lumber cutting. Hydroelectricity, as it is now called is the same principle but on a larger scale, the power of the water is used to turn turbines to produce electricity. Hydro power produces an impressive 60% of the electricity in Canada today, unfortunately, the United States are nowhere as close.

For the home owner the simplest ways to get started in producing alternative energy is to look at solar power or wind power, there are now a multitude of options available to get started with. Remember you don't have to start big, as big changes usually come from lots of small ones, so what small change are you going to make today.<bio>Gavin Dye is the webmaster at Solar Power 4u where you can learn about solar power and other forms of alternative energy you can use around your home.
An interesting paradox in summer heat is that of the fan. A fan, whether it is generated by muscle power or by electric current actually adds heat, not cooling. So, how does using a fan make you feel cooler? The answer lies in the wind chill factor.

The wind chill factor is the temperature a person feels because of the wind. No matter what the temperature is in the room, if the air is moving, it feels cooler on the skin than non-moving air. Because the skin has thousands of tiny sweat glands which produce moisture, the effect of evaporation will cool your skin and make you feel cooler than you would in an utterly still room.

Since fans vary in the amount of air moved and the speed at which it is moved, there are no simple tables which one could refer to in order to calculate the exact results received by using a fan. There are complex formulas which can be used to calculate wind chill factor, but even they have outside limitations, For example, wind speeds above 45 miles per hour do not result in additional cooling effects.

Additionally, if the temperature in a room is 80 degrees, and the effects of the wind chill factors make it feel like 70 degrees, the temperature in the room is still 80 degrees. A fan whether mechanical or not, does not cool the air.

The major advantage to fans as a way to be more comfortable in summer heat is the cost of the energy. Certain types of room fans do not require the use of outside energy sources in order to be effective. Alternatively, the use of solar energy is a cost effective alternative once the initial outlay for solar panels is discounted. A third option is the use of windmills to generate enough power to run the fans. Once again, initial capital outlay is significant, but there is little if any additional cost for the energy. <bio>Lisa Anderson is a proud contributing author.
Many people wonder what they can do to help dampen the effects of the climate crisis. One method of doing so incorporates the usage of 'clean' energy; that is, energy that does not contribute to the levels of greenhouse gas present in our atmosphere. There are several sources of clean energy, and although it may cost more, the benefit on the planet's ecosystem is well worth the extra money. Commonly known as 'green power', the Environmental Protection Agency has formed a partnership to help encourage the usage of these alternative sources of energy.

Wind energy is one option when it comes to renewable power. Large spinning turbines harvest the movement of the air, and the energy is transferred into an electricity generator for usage in any application. While it's not available everywhere, wind energy represents one of the fastest sectors of growth when it comes to alternative power sources, and it is consequently one of the most widely used alternative sources. As a matter of fact, since the year 2000, the number of wind turbines present in the United States has more than doubled!

Solar power is another significant source of renewable energy. Solar cells known as photovoltaics are placed on sun-catching areas such as the roof of a house. These cells turn light energy into electricity, and enough electric panels can provide power for an entire home, leaving you independent of the energy companies altogether.

Geothermal energy represents a source of energy that is not commonly discussed. Heat from underneath the earth's surface is harvested as steam, which helps to spin a turbine much in the way of wind power. The spinning motion is sent to an electricity generator, and the power can be used in any modern application.

Low impact hydropower represents another significant source of renewable energy. Incorporating the use of a turbine, hydropower is created in streams and rivers which produce enough of a force to properly spin the turbines. Many aspects of hydropower need to be approved to ensure that the turbines do not significantly effect wildlife that may be living in the area where the energy is being harvested. Most hydropower sources do not dam a river up; they operate with the river in free-flow as to minimize the effect on the environment.

While these sources may not be easy to come by, your conscience can be unburdened regarding the climate crisis by switching to one of these environmentally friendly sources of energy.
There are several different types of wind chimes that make noise in different ways. All wind chimes are percussion instruments. That means the noise is created when a hammer or clapper strikes another part of the wind chime and causes the air around it to resonate. Different materials and arrangements produce different tones.

Some wind chimes are collections of small bells. Each bell has a clapper, and as the wind moves the bell, the clapper hits it and the bell rings. Each bell produces a single tone. Japanese wind bells and a Buddhist sixteen bell chime are examples of this type of wind chime.

Some wind chimes are more like a gong, where a hammer strikes one or more flat or curved circular plates. They fill the air with the resonating sound of a gong. An example is a Japanese Emperor gong.

Another type of wind chime is made of suspended objects that strike one another when the wind moves them. These chimes may not make music; they may have a more percussive noise. These chimes are easy to make out of common household items, such as nuts and bolts or knives and spoons.

The most common type of wind chime is made of hollow tubes or solid rods which are struck by a solid clapper. These chimes are often tuned to produce specific sounds that are pleasing to the ear.

Sometimes, such as with pagoda wind chimes, tubular chimes are combined with bells. This gives a combination of the tinkling sound of bells and the chime of rods.

No matter what kind of wind chime you are talking about, the wind is what initiates the noise. If the air is still, the wind chime doesn't make any noise.

The wind creates the amount of noise a wind chime makes. A gentle breeze might produce a gentle tinkling sound, whereas a howling wind could produce a vigorous clanging. Some wind chimes will give different sounds when the wind blows from different directions.

Whether a wind chime is made of bells, gongs, tuned rods or household junk, the noise it makes is produced when the wind blows through it, causing one part to strike against another and causing the air to resonate. <bio>Written by Elizabeth Jean for Wind Chimes Free Shipping, which offers a selection of high quality http://www.wind-chimes-free-shipping.com </bio>

The new trend nowadays for homes is to install alternative energy solutions inside it, from the wind turbines producing electricity and the solar collection cells that include hydrogen cells. This is a new technology that continues in the twenty first century and to be continued. There is a lot of need to become energy independent and therefore, households need to rely less on energy derived from fossil fuels and be able to produce alternative energy. Unstable nations are usually the ones who supply fossil fuels; therefore, there is the constant need to become off grid and thus, become independent from this type of production. The fossil fuel industry is maintained by corporation interests, giant oil company directors and some of them are even involved in background conspiracy, therefore creating a vicious circle which cannot give up relying on fossil fuel. There is therefore, a constant pressure on the fossil fuel industry and many alternative energies are thus, overlooked.

However, as many specialists in the field point out, there is the need to develop the distributed generation of alternative energies. We need to restructure the electricity market and do even more research on transmission, distribution infrastructure and diversify the existing means of producing market. Power providers can diversify their businesses by earning back lost revenues through micro generation in the household energy. Therefore, UK analysts have conducted some research and have found out that there are more and more people trying to adopt alternative energies to suit ever-growing energy demands. This trend into adopting alternative energies is encouraged by government recommendation concerning environmental degradation; there is the desire to become energy independent and this is encouraged at all costs. It is therefore, possible to produce all the energy needed in a household by just using alternative energies, such as solar and wind energies combined. These solutions, the solar panels as well as the wind turbines, are likely to become the next big thing in energy suppliers industry.

Alternative energy companies have presumed until now that since traditional prices for energy have remained at the same levels for some time now, it is then possible for micro generation to come in and institute its own prices. After all, if you plan to produce energy at home then through the solar panels and wind turbines, you will only consume what you produce. Therefore, this will make the alternative market very lucrative and thus, a competitor for the traditional energy market.

Current analyses have pointed out that companies should institute techniques through which to encourage the potential of alternative. By opening up the market, success is more likely to be established. For instance, electrical companies in Great Britain have been researching and discovering idea on how to facilitate the wide scale use of geothermal energy; these companies though that geothermal energy could become the energy norm in the future therefore, they were willing to invest in this idea. Through constant effort, one day, alternative energies will become the norm. Another analysis has pointed out that heating through solar energy can be another lucrative alternative to implement in the future. While initially expensive to install such as system, it would become profitable for the long run to use this alternative in the long term, because the benefits obtained from the technology would eventually outweigh the costs. Therefore, one should pay careful attention before installing such a system and especially, make sure they are really eager to pursue that step and not another.

While solar powers has not yet become cost effective to install at larger scales, for instance in corporations, it has become nonetheless an idea worth considering. There are a lot of downfalls to it nonetheless, because especially at a wider scale, one would have to modify a lot of plumbing systems to implement the foundation for the solar energy heating system. In the home however, individual users can reduce the costs for the long run by constantly saving up money from the bills they pay for energy. Therefore, even though the prices for installing alternative energies remain high, the idea will surely catch on in the future.<bio>Find out how you can benefit from biofuels for alternative energy as well as the progressive work on renewable fuels when you visit http://www.replaceablegas.com, the premier resources on secret alternative energy sources.</bio>
