It's truly amazing what companies use to promote their businesses these days. Gone are the days when a company would simply use things like pens and pencils for their advertising. But companies know that today's customers aren't happy with simply getting items that are for the office. They want to be given promotional items that they can actually use and that show that the company is thinking of their needs and not just of the money that they can make off of them. That is one reason a lot of companies are offering promotional cleaning cloths as a promotional item.

Why promotional cleaning cloths?

The reason that companies are using promotional cleaning cloths to promote their businesses is that they have looked around at the people that they see on the streets. They want to know what it is that they need and that they are going to use on a regular basis. They noticed that a lot of people are wearing glasses. Now of course, not everyone has to wear glasses. But even if they don't need to wear glasses chances are good t hat they are going to wear sunglasses. So they decided that putting their name on a promotional cleaning cloth is a good idea, because it was something that the customers were going to use.

There are a few ways that a company can promote their business with promotional cleaning cloths. Let's take a look and see.

Employees and Clients

The first group of people that a company should give their promotional cleaning cloths to is their employees. Chances are that the employees all have at least one pair of glasses that they use and that the glasses get dirty from time to time. When the company gives the employees promotional cleaning cloths, they are going to use them and the people around them are going to see the company's name and logo on the cloths.

Another good group of people to give them to are clients. Using promotional cleaning cloths to clean glasses is going to get their glasses a lot cleaner than if they used a tissue, and there is also less chance of them scratching.

Customers

Another group of people that the company can give out their promotional cleaning cloths to are the customers. Because of their low cost, salespeople can keep some of the promotional cleaning cloths in their briefcases and give them out when the opportunities arise. The customers are going to be grateful that they have a nice cleaning cloth that they can use on their glasses safely.

Promotional cleaning cloths are something that every company can use to promote their products because they are very affordable. They are something that a lot of companies don't think about, but as you can see they are something that people are going to use on a regular basis. Every time that person uses your company's cleaning cloth, they are going to reminded of you and what you did for them. There's no better advertising than that.<bio>Miles Lovegrove is director of Fluid Branding, the UK's largest supplier of Promotional Cleaning Cloths and other Promotional Products at www.fluidbranding.com.
Color can be used in so many ways for weddings. From an accent color to the main color theme used in everything from the bridal party dresses to the table cloths and napkins at the reception. It is up to you how much color, or how little color, you want.

Should you use your favorite color for your wedding theme? What happens if your favorite color is yellow and your wedding is in the winter? It's still your wedding and your choice if you want to use yellow, but you may not want to use yellow as the main wedding color but more of an accent color such as the mini roses in the bouquets or as the ribbon around your wedding favor.

Some of the prettiest weddings we've seen have used multiple colors or shades of the same color throughout the planning of their weddings to the actual event. One color is used for the bridal shower, another color for the ceremony, followed by combining the colors for the reception. It's actually a very easy thing to do that will result in spectacular look.

For example, you have selected blue for your wedding color -- great choice for anytime of the year. Your bridal shower kicks off with a lovely baby blue being used as flowers on your cake, bells, ribbons and decorations are intertwined with baby blue and white and your bridal shower favors also feature something blue and look beautiful sitting on your guest's white table cloths.

Moving onto your wedding day, you have selected a deeper shade of blue for your bridal party. The bridesmaid's dresses are the color of the ocean with your groomsmen bow ties matching. Your bouquet is white or ivory roses or calla lilies intermingled with the blue hydrangeas which carries the color theme elegantly throughout the bridal party.

At your reception, you have chosen to add an even deeper hue of blue and now have three gorgeous blue shades throughout the reception location. Your bridal table, guest tables, gift table and cake table all have three different cloths with the deepest blue tablecloth on the top. The other colors peek below as they cascade to the floor. White place settings and napkins sit majestically on the deep blue of the table cloth. Gorgeous tall white candles burn in the center of each table and at each guest seat is a tasteful white candle wedding favor for your guests to take with to remind them of your beautiful wedding day.

Your wedding cake is a cascade of white flowers and pale blue ribbons. Beautiful white and blue bows are scattered throughout carrying your colors even further. Finally, you have the beautiful blue garter that your husband can sexily slide off your leg!

It doesn't matter which color you select as your wedding color as they are so many creative ways to use color for your wedding. Enjoy the process as you plan the wedding that your dreams are made of! <bio>Denise Sanger is the owner of http://www.BuyWeddingFavorsOnline.com </bio>

Did you know that quite a few of the common household cleaning agents you would normally reach for to clean a carpet stain will actually damage your carpet forever?

Did you know that clear liquid detergents are better for carpet stain removing than opaque ones?

How about this: When blotting to clean a carpet stain, should you work outward or inward?

Check out the tips for cleaning carpet stains below. You'll be surprised how enlightening they are, and how much sense they make.

TIPS FOR CLEANING CARPET STAINS:

1) Keep the right carpet stain cleaning supplies handy in a place all their own. Collect the following items:

A clear, see-through liquid detergent (non-transparent liquid detergents can leave a residue that attracts yet more dirt).

At least one spot remover that cuts grease, such as Energine.

Ammonia, mixed one tablespoon to one cup of water (not to be used on wool).

Non-oily polish remover.

One part white vinegar mixed with one part water.

Club soda.

White paper towels or cloths.

2) The correct way to clean carpet stains is to first collect as much of the offending spill as possible, then blot inward (blotting outward can make the stain bigger). After that, use one of the items you have gathered together specifically for cleaning carpet stains. A lot of other common cleaning products contain chemicals that can damage the rug. Rinse well with the least amount of water necessary, and then pack the stained area with white paper towels or white cloths. Weigh the area down and leave it for 24 hours.

3) You can help extend the life of your carpets by using the following preventative tips:

Use a good carpet pad. Put "walk-off matting" at all entryways, and keep them clean. Set up a system for cleaning carpets of dirt and stains regularly, and stick to it!

And remember, when it comes to cleaning carpet stains, it's like being a paramedic... the carpet you save may be your own! <bio>Jodie Phillips is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://effective-carpet-cleaning.com/ and she provides more carpet cleaning facts, tips and advice on her website, where you can research in the comfort of your own home. </bio>

One of the best aspects of a good promotional item is that it can sometimes become so useful to your client or potential client that it becomes an unquestioned part of their life. They use it constantly and come to depend on it, and every time they do, you are there in the form of your brand helping them with whatever task they set out to accomplish.

One such useful item is a simple cleaning cloth or towel. Everybody needs these little items; in fact, everybody needs a lot of them, and people don't generally think to go out and buy them. These aren't the matching designer hand towels that engaged couples register for, these are the towels that people grab when there is serious work to be done. These are the cleaning cloths that are used to dust, scrub, polish, wax, wipe, and clean, the ones that are employed in the application of "elbow grease."

One great thing about these cleaning cloths is that there are several different kinds of them, all of them useful in different areas of your customers' lives. They come in a wide variety of different colors and sizes, with the ability to print your name and logo on them according to your wishes and instructions.

Lens cleaners and eyeglass cleaners

These are small, portable, lint-free cloths that are easy to carry in a pocket or brief case. Branded cleaning cloths can be drawn out at a convenient moment to polish eyeglass lenses, but they are also useful for telescope, binocular, and camera lenses. Promotional cleaning cloths are especially appropriate if your business is associated with photography or any of your clients are photographers. They will appreciate your helpful gesture in providing a cloth that will keep their lenses clean and lint-free.

Screen cleaners

Screens are such an integral part of our modern life, that anyone who offers a client an easy way to care for them shows that they are aware of this simple fact of modern business life. We watch television on screens, do our computer work looking at monitor screens, carry cell phones, iPhones, PDA's and Blackberrys with small but necessary screens, our Mp3 players have screens of varying sizes. Electronic screens are not like glass windows and cannot be cleaned in the same way, but you can provide your customers with a microfiber screen cleaning cloths that will remove dust, lint, dirt and smudges without scratching or streaking the glass. You can also get pouches or holders for some of these items, such as cell phones or Mp3 players that double as cleaning cloths.

Kitchen and Bath

These cleaning cloths come in varying degrees of "niceness." Some are fancy enough to set out for guests, and some are more plain and functional for every day uses. Most of these are the towels with which your customers will wipe down the counters after the dishes are done, or wipe up spills at the dinner table. Such mundane uses are exactly what you want; they show your customers that you want to be of service to them, even when life gets a bit messy.<bio>Miles Lovegrove is director of Fluid Branding, the UK's largest supplier of Promotional Cleaning Cloths and other Promotional Products at www.fluidbranding.com.
With the advent of micro fiber cloth, people's lives have become a lot easier, especially in regard to cleaning and dusting. This superior material is better able to clean, particularly for spilled or splattered oil. It hasn't been very long since micro fiber was introduced to the market. The price of micro fiber cloths is quite affordable and this especially helps in making the micro fiber cloths a very popular product with homemakers. It is quite impressive to find how this invention has captured the market in a short time.

"Quality" is the chief reason for micro fiber to become so well liked and it is the ideal substitute to the traditional cotton clothes used in sports apparel, athletic garments etc. Micro fiber is widely used these days because it keeps the clothes dry and don't douse the person wearing micro fiber clothes in sweat. This way, when a sportsperson performs any arduous exercise, he or she feels comfortable in a micro fiber outfit, as the clothes remain dry.

Micro fiber cloth is the most effective means for cleaning and dusting. Cloths of this material, attracts the dust preventing the dust particles from floating in the air. The most ideal color of micro fiber cloth to be used for cleaning and dusting is green. The most interesting fact is that, in spite of such superior quality, it is not at all costly. Also, the material is durable and serves the owner better than most of the usual materials available in the market.

Micro fiber cloth is used mostly for household products like tablecloths, TV covers etc. If drinks or food are spilled on micro fiber cloth, there won't be any stains after washing the cloth. The micro fiber cloths are available the automotive centers of any super store and they usually cost around $5-$6.Also, these cloths are available online. Micro fiber cloths also brilliantly polish chrome, fixtures, windows, wood floors, and granite. However, one has to be really careful to maintain the shine. The shine of the cloth gives it a real good look.

Bear in mind that, like any product, you have to take proper care of micro fiber products. Whatever you purchase, whether it is an outfit or simply a micro fiber cloth, follow the instruction when you wash them. If you strictly follow the washing instructions, then without a doubt, you can enjoy using the micro fiber cloth or outfit, for a long time. The use of micro fiber is so prevalent now days that we can't imagine a life without it. Thanks to the advancement in the scientific field that it has come up with such a useful invention. With further progress in this field, we are going have more great micro fiber products available in the near future. <bio>Celia Namart an avid traveler has collected her thoughts and ideas during her many travels around the world, back from a recent trip around the world Celia writes about Microfiber at http://microfiber.advice-tips.com/ </bio>

Draperies are commonly used in any house because of its elegant look when put on the window. Draperies are very good curtains to used when one prefers to have a dim lit room. Most of the time, the color of the cloth used on a draperies is a determinant whether how dim your room maybe.
Christening of a child is as imperative as the first birthday. A child turns out to be absolutely the component of the kin only after the christening ceremony. Inhabitants all over the world that is Christians commemorate this ceremony with fabulous showiness. Endowing gifts at some point in this ceremony is in fact a phase of the celebrations. For that reason, a diversity of gifts is available through online stores plus exclusive Baptism accessory stores. You can with no trouble pick the baby gift you propose to buy the infant even aiming a low budget. Buy attires and outfits that are recognized baby christening gifts.

Although there are people who bequeath baby gift baskets. These baskets more often than not are dissimilar when it comes to baptism, as they will contain more of cloths and dressing garnishes. Frilled tops and bottoms, gorgeous white or pinkish sweaters are frequently given as christening gifts. The outfits are manufactured in a choice of fashions, materials and of course vibrant colors. However, pink is the most wanted color for girls and beyond doubt light blue for boys. But there are customers who come in search of dazzling outfits and bright colored frog dresses. People as a rule pick cloths as they are the lowest priced christening gifts you can provide.

At present, as for adults, designers especially for baby clothes are quite popular. These cloths are classy according to the brand name. However, christening cloths are to a large extent different from what people offer as baby shower favors. After cloths, toys are the next preference. Toy producers argue that cloths can easily turn out to be useless and toys go round for a long time. They also stress on the point that toys do cater lots of information and enthusiasm. Prevalent toys that comprise of rubber and soft stuffs are the best sellers. Even cloth toys and musical toys are loved by infants.

Fussy and unique gifts to cherish the day of christening are also obtainable in the market. Framed fanciful prints are habitually bestowed as baby gifts on the christening ceremony. These frames will be engraved with the names of the child and even the date of the holy ceremony. Baby blankets crafted with frills and laces are also the pride and joy of the child. If in actual fact you wish the gift to be cherished for a long time, you need to make it special. For that reason, try to buy a gift that can be worn on the day of the ceremony itself.

Christening gowns are separately created for both girls and boys. This should be bought earlier as the child needs to wear it on that particular day. So, it is better to present gowns as baby shower favors after knowing the gender of the child. Mostly, gowns are gifted by grandparents and close relatives. A personalized bible which is cute and short, very well impresses anyone in the family. Even the child would love to take it along with him/her as they grow up. Handy bible and bible books solely rich with quotes are a wonderful offering. Try to make the gift custom-made for better results.<bio>This author lives in Hampton, NJ with her husband and 5 month old daughter and is an expert contributing author for a luxury unique baby gifts boutique offering variety of baby shower favors, baby gift baskets, handprint footprint kits and more.</bio>

There is no need to purchase a floor cleaner at the store. Whatever you're cleaning needs, you can find products around the house to make a homemade cleaner that will effectively clean different parts of your home.

Many people like the idea of mixing their own homemade floor cleaner. In addition to saving money, many people like the idea of using natural products to clean, rather than toxic chemicals that can harm your health and damage the eco system. There are many different ways to mix every day products to make different cleaners.

General Purpose Floor Cleaners

If you want to make a basic floor cleaner that can be used in your bare floor cleaning machine, mix 1/3 cup of Borax with one gallon of warm water. Add one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of ammonia. This solution makes a fine floor cleaning product that will not only remove tough stains, but will disinfect your kitchen and bathroom floors.

To clean your wood floors, go to the pantry and mix =BD cup of white vinegar and =BD cup of vegetable oil. This natural solution will make your wood floors shine like new. The vinegar acts to remove stains and the oil helps to maintain the luster of the wood.

If you have Pergo floors, you can mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup water and three drop of dishwashing liquid to make a fantastic floor cleaner. This solution can also be used in your bare floor cleaner, or with a mop.

To clean a linoleum floor, mix one tablespoon of liquid soap, a quarter cup of baking soda to two gallons of hot water. Add =BC cup of white vinegar to the mix and you have an excellent linoleum floor cleaner. This solution also works very well on tile floors.

Scented Floor Cleaners

To make a nicely scented, homemade floor cleaner, mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar to two gallons of hot water and add drops of orange essential oil or lemon essential oil to the mix. Essential oils can be found in craft shops where candle supplies are found. Even if you do not have the oils, the vinegar and water makes a great cleaner and costs a fraction of what a store bought floor cleaner costs.

Disinfectant Floor Cleaners

To disinfect a floor, use =BD cup of borax to two gallons of hot water. Borax can be found in your supermarket next to the laundry detergents and is a powder. A large box of Borax can go a long way in developing many different cleaning products. The Borax solution does not have to be rinsed after applied. It will disinfect any floor, even the bathroom.

Chrome Cleaner

Toothpaste, for example, makes a great chrome cleaner, as does crumpled up aluminum foil. White vinegar is, by itself, one of the best glass cleaners available.

Dusting

You can also use re-used dryer sheets in place of magnetic cloths, such as "Swiffer" cloths. Dryer sheets are also great for dusting, particularly television screens.

A Warning About Bleach and Ammonia

If you are mixing your own floor cleaners, never mix ammonia and bleach, as the fumes are toxic.

Once you have made a homemade floor cleaner, you will probably want to try to make other cleaning products. You may even enjoy using some every day products in ways to clean your home.

wilhelm at bestfloorcleaning.com <bio>Learn how to save time cleaning tile and laminate floors with a floor cleaner by http://www.bestfloorcleaning.com a popular website containing tips, resources and information on Bissell steam cleaner, vacuum cleaner ratings and how to get out the tough carpet stains. </bio>

One of the best methods to add a touch of style and warmth, not to mention a bit of history, to a home is to use a beautiful traditional cloth rug as a floor rug. Cloth rugs are made using several methods.

Apart from the rug manufacturers, thousands of people also create beautiful rugs from fabrics as a hobby. It has become a craft with its own jargon and traditions. A little time studying it can be highly rewarding.

Braided rugs.

With almost endless patterns and color choices everyone can find a braided rug that will match their taste. They are also comparatively more affordable than most other kinds of floor rugs and come in a range of prices. Such floor rugs are also durable and practical. In fact the best protection for your floor whether it be hardwood, tile, linoleum, or even fully carpeted, is to use a braided rug made of fabric on the areas where the foot traffic is heaviest.

For all those reasons braided rugs have been popular in the United States from 1800's. At that time old cloths were used to make the braided floor rugs. Braided rugs became highly fashionable during the 1930's after the Great Depression.

Braided rugs are still made from large number of strips of cloths sewed together to make longer strips. These longer strips sewn at the ends are braided in traditional patterns. Afterwards their edges are also sewn to make them hold the pattern. The patterns used in braided rugs are many and varied, which is one of reasons why they are so versatile. Patterns include, standard braids, flat braids, right hand braids, plaits, false braids, square or round braids, and ladder braids, among others.

Rag rugs.

These were originally made from discarded scarps of cloths using sackcloth as a base. Nowadays they are especially manufactured to look like that using variety of methods.

Rug hooking

Rugs are also made by pulling loops of fabric or yarn through a base woven out of materials like linen, burlap, or Monks cloth. Since the pulling is done using a hook with a wooden handle as in crocheting, this craft is known as rug hooking.

Proddy rugs.

These are also called clippies, stobbies, pricked, and clootie mats. In this method the strips of cloths are prodded or poked through from the back of the base material <bio>Lanny Hintz writes about http://www.buyarearugonline.com,http://www.buyarearugonline.com/Categories/Novelty%20Rugs.html and http://www.buyarearugonline.com/Categories/Theme%20Rugs.html </bio>

Silver jewelry is not only attractive but also reasonably priced. In fact a number of men and women prefer silver as an alternative to gold.

For those who purchase silver jewelry may not often think about taking care of it. On the other hand, if you clean silver jewelry it can stay vibrant and beautiful for years and years.

There are a number of different methods that you can use to clean silver jewelry. Of course, when you decide to purchase silver jewelry the sales clerk might ask you if you would be interested in buying a solution that is specially made to clean it. Generally this consists of a plastic bottle which holds a liquid that has been designed to clean silver jewelry. This type of solution works well to clean silver jewelry that doesn't contain gemstones.

One needs to be particularly careful with the gemstones as they can get damaged if placed in one of the chemical solution that is meant to clean silver jewelry. It's sheen can be worn away and after you've cleaned them they will have lost some of their luster too.

One can simply use a soft cloth as another method to clean silver jewelry. For this, one must ensure to rub the silver piece cautiously with the cloth to clear off any dust or residue. This not only helps to polish the jewelry but also to restore its shimmer.

Another option to clean silver jewelry that incorporates both methods are specially designed cloths that have a cleaning solution. One of the benefits of using one of these cloths to clean your silver jewelry is that you can control what the solution touches. Thus if the piece does contain gemstones you can ensure that the solution only comes in contact with the silver. For those who would like to clean silver jewelry in this manner you can find out at your local jewelry retailer about the availability and pricing of the cloths.

You do not need to clean silver jewelry after each wearing. Items such as silver earrings, you may want to disinfect before each use. As for other items, such as necklaces or bracelets only need to be cleaned in case you notice them becoming dirty.

If you take the time to clean silver jewelry, it not only keeps it looking its absolute best but also it extends the life of the jewelry piece. In spite the value of silver being lesser than gold, one needs to take proper care as it is still an investment.

Perhaps you can talk to your jeweler about the best method to clean silver jewelry and with a little time and effort; for sure no one will be able to tell if your bracelet, necklace or earrings are brand new or if you've bought them several years back. <bio>Glen B.
Years ago sewing was a skill commonly learned by most women and many men. Ready-made clothing was often poorly made and didn't fit well. So people insisted on making their own cloths or, at the very least, making adjustments to the cloths they bought so it would fit better and be more durable.

Not only that, but if a zipper got stuck or the owner's waist line expanded, all could be quickly fixed with a simple repair or alteration.

Today people who can afford fine suits often have a professional tailor perfectly fit the suit to the customer. If you watch TV news anchors and wealthy tycoons, their clothing always fits perfectly.

Unfortunately, the rest of us usually have to put up with cloths that don't fit their best. Even worse, we are forced to purchase new clothing when what we have doesn't fit right anymore or develops problems.

I was very fortunate to learn the skills of a professional tailor early in my career and have perfected my own sewing and alteration methods over the past 30 years.

Don't go around wearing a shirt or dress that needs an alteration to fit you perfectly. Doing your own alterations is quite simple if you use the correct tools. For dresses and shirts, use a grade 120 thread. Anything heavier will make the fabric pucker. Use a regular needle.

Let's say you gained some weight recently, or successfully completed one of the new diets, and your waistline isn't the same as it was when you purchased your jeans.

No problem. Use a slightly heavier needle for altering jeans -- 75's or 36s, sometimes called a jeans needle will work fine. While you're at it, you can quickly take up pant legs to be just the right length for your individual frame.

What if your garment is made from lycra, spandex, or other stretch knit material? Many people tell me andquot;my sewing machine won't sew that type of material.andquot;

The problem is with the needle you're using. For lycra and similar fabrics, use a Stretch needle. This type of needle is also called a ball point or special point needle. You'll find your sewing machine works fine with this fabric once you have the correct needle in place.

Frequently a perfectly good coat or pants will be discarded when the zipper malfunctions. Don't throw the clothing away. Instead, take out the old zipper and sew in a new one.

Often you can get tips and pointers by visiting a fabric store. The owner is probably skilled at sewing and certainly knows the in's and out's of needles and thread.

You can also pay a professional tailor to alter or repair a piece of clothing. Ask the tailor to show you how they made the alteration. Frequently you can learn enough to do the job yourself the next time. <bio>Well-known tailor Jack Heywood has created a visual step-by-step guide to alterations at http://www.sew-so-easy.com .. His new DVD shows you how to easily alter clothing, let out and take in trousers, replace zippers and much, much more. See parts of the DVD free at his site. </bio>

Here's a great selection of carpet cleaning tips straight from the notebooks of professional carpet cleaners:

Carpet Cleaning Tip #1: Devise a Plan

It's a good idea to put your expensive carpeting on a cleaning schedule. Just as vacuuming alone won't keep your carpet clean, using only the most convenient carpet cleaning processes won't either. The best plan is a regular program of daily vacuuming, weekly dry absorbent powder cleaner, and a fairly frequent heavy-duty professional carpet cleaning to remove the deepest dirt and residue.

Carpet Cleaning Tip #2: Getting Out Stains

In general, blot--don't rub--as much of the spillage up as possible, removing any solids and blotting inward toward the center of the stain. Choose one of the following cleaners to work on the stain: a clear liquid detergent (the non-transparent liquid detergents can leave extra residue), a grease and oil-cutting spot remover such as Energine, a solution of one tablespoon of ammonia to one cup of water (not for wool fibers), non-oily polish remover, club soda, or a solution of one part white vinegar to one part water. After you've removed the stain, rinse out the stain remover, using as little water as possible, then pack the area with white cloths or white paper towels, weigh it down with something heavy and leave it for 24 hours to dry completely.

Carpet Cleaning Tip #3: Hand Washing

There are times, especially when the carpet isn't too soiled, when you might choose to hand-wash it. The proper way to hand-wash a carpet is to vacuum it twice first, then scrub professional carpet cleaner into the carpet using a brush, vacuuming thoroughly afterwards to remove all residue.

To extend the life of your carpeting, put mats at all entryways to capture as much soil as possible. Always use a good-quality carpet pad under your carpeting. Periodically move the furniture. Your carpet will thank you, and you'll enjoy it more! <bio>Jodie Phillips is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://effective-carpet-cleaning.com/ and she provides more carpet cleaning facts, tips and advice on her website, where you can research in the comfort of your own home. </bio>

One of my loyal readers was seeking advice cleaning an oil painting:

"My grandmother did several oil paintings before she died. They are lovely, but only valuable to our family. My mother, a heavy smoker, hung a small oil painting (about 12" x 18") in her small studio apartment for many years. This week she is moving, and gave me the painting. It is sticky and drippy with smoke residue.

My local art gallery wants almost $200 to clean it!

Is there a home-remedy that I could attempt? Obviously, I don't want to damage it, but it's not a valuable piece, and I just want it cleaned enough to hang in my kitchen (still life with wine and fruit). Thanks for any advice you can offer!"

I can't make any guarantees (because I'm not a curator) about the safety of these methods for your particular painting. But I can tell you what I do to clean the paintings I own.

1.The safest option, but won't work on sticky areas is to use a very soft brush to remove dust and soot particles (super soft paintbrush, baby toothbrush, shaving brush, that kind of thing). You can buy a micro attachment kit for your vacuum that has small brushes (under an inch in diameter) for deeper cleaning (don't scrub the surface with the bristles, though--just light, circular passes). If that doesn't work, you can use a dry rubber sponge in short strokes across the surface, but only if the surface isn't damaged or flaky. It picks up every last bit of dirt and soot, but likely won't work on the really sticky parts.

2.The other option is to use soft, clean cloths and water with a few drops of dish detergent. If you can remove the frame to test this on the side or edge of the painting first, do so. Watch the surface of the painting and check the cloths to see what's coming off, and obviously if the paint colors are lifting off, stop cleaning. Try just damp cloths at first, dab the painting, no scrubbing. If she painted on canvas, be careful not to stretch the canvas by pressing too hard. If damp cloths aren't working, use a bit more water, just beware that water can seep under varnish, if there is any, and that if the paint is thin, and the canvas or board gets wet, it can shrink or warp and cause cracks in the paint.

I've cleaned my own paintings this way, but a conservator would wring my neck if I ever tried it at a gallery! I've also used rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball for really bad areas...scary, but it works. Use a tiny amount of alcohol.

If these methods don't work, it might be worth it to ask around at the gallery to see if there is a conservator's apprentice or helper working there. Ask around unofficially by checking with the security guards, reception staff, gallery shop clerks, etc. He/she might be willing to look at your painting to recommend a solvent or clean it for a lower price (under the table on his/her own time). You could also check antique and framing shops to see if they have lower prices for cleaning services.

Good luck cleaning your oil painting!
If you have even a passing interest in the topic of acne, then you should take a look at the following information. This enlightening article presents some of the latest news on the subject of acne.

1. Avoid Scrubbing and Abrasives

Scrubbing and abrasives should be avoided. Experts have said that they irritate the skin, which should be left intact as a natural barrier against the acne-causing bacteria.

2. Sun for Beautiful Skin

As you may know, sun does kill bacteria, but it doesn't mean that it won't harm the skin. Note that the sun also acts as an astringent that dries, tightens and clogs the skin pores. Thus, you should just spend limited time under the sun. At least 15 minutes to the face and arms daily is enough.

3. Avoid Extremely Cold Weather

If extreme heat causes clogging of the pores, extremely cold weather causes it as well. So, avoid extremely cold weather so you don't freeze and clog pores. It is ideal that you moisturize your face and body, and stay in temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Swimming Does Help

Exercise for stress reduction by swimming in a properly treated indoor swimming pool. But, use the Ozone purified pool if possible. It is interesting to know that the swimming pool water is typically 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is well below the normal temperature of 98.6 degrees of your body. Therefore, the swimming water cools your whole body, including the acne affected areas, while providing excellent exercise to the rest of you. This even reduces stress as well as physical attention.

5. Think Clean

Change linens, wash cloths and body towels after each use. It is for the fact that they are great places for acne-causing bacteria to grow and be reapplied to the skin later. Also, wash white facial cloths, pillow covers, as well as personal undergarments daily with Vinegar, tea tree oil or essential oils of Lime, lemon or orange so to lessen the acne-related bacterial development. It is also often suggested that you apply a natural detergent for washing.

Indeed, there are a lot of ways to control and fight acne, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle is so far the best one to consider. It is important to note that healthy lifestyles will lead you to attaining a healthier skin and a healthier body. Changing your unfavorable habits will reward you with better general health, more energy, and clearer skin to show the world.

If you were once afraid to make changes, please don't be. Of course, the initial affects may be hard to grasp at first, but as you go on, you will find out that you can quickly learn to adapt with them.

This article is Copyright © 2006, Heather Colman.
Wearing silver jewelry is quite fashionable for young people and its white luster bestows a serene elegance on the wearer. You will find exquisite silver jewelry available in the market ranging from beautiful silver charms, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, bangles and watches. It's much more affordable compared to gold and exudes a shine quite similar to platinum.

Silver has been used to make jewelry right the time of the Phoenician, Byzantine and Egyptian empires. Today, most of the world's silver comes from the mines of Mexico and Peru.

Pure silver is call fine silver. Since silver in its purest forms is very soft and quite malleable, other metals are mixed, to make it more durable. It's important to look out for the 925, ..925 or Sterling Silver mark, when buying jewelry because these marks ensure that the silver is 92.5% pure. The remaining 7.5 percent of the jewelry is copper. Even though any other metal can be used to make up the 7.5 percent, copper is preferred since it is found to be the most suited alloy to silver as it can improve the metal's hardness and durability without diminishing it's white luster.

The 925, .925 or Sterling Silver marks shows that the silver jewelry you are buying is not silver plated and not an imitation made with other white colored metal alloys. At the same time, if you find a mark higher than the recommended 92.5%, avoid buying the piece as it will be too soft. It can't endure everyday wear and is not worth the money spent.

One thing about silver jewelry is that it develops a tarnish, which occurs quite naturally when it interacts with sulfur or hydrogen in the surrounding air. Tarnish can be removed by using polish specifically formulated to remove tarnish from silver jewelry. Silver polishes, solutions, or cloths required to remove tarnish can be found at local hardware stores or specialty craft stores.

Avoid exposing silver to chemicals such as bleach or ammonia which may happen when you are cleaning your house. When swimming in chlorinated water remove or set aside your silver jewelry, such as earring or chains, before your swim. Such exposures will only damage silver jewelry. It's best to place your silver jewelry in cloth pouch or in a separate area of you jewelry box. Proper care will ensure that your silver jewelry lasts for a lifetime. <bio>Linda Polansky writes about http://www.jewelryanddiamondguide.com/, http://www.jewelryanddiamondguide.com/Coupons/Zales.html and http://www.jewelryanddiamondguide.com </bio>

With black and white digital photography, you are bringing the end user back into a period of time when life seemed a lot simpler. Many digital cameras come equipped with a function to take these types of photos. If your digital camera does not support this function, you can still change your photographs into black and white with software programs.

You'll want your black and white digital photography to look its best when you are finished. A technique that can help you get the best image out of your digital photograph is through image manipulation. You may find it better to convert your eight-bit color images (which are usually jpegs) into 16-bit colors first. This is important because an 8-bit RGB can be the same as a 10-bit grayscale.

You can find information all over on the Internet to help you with your black and white digital photography. These resources can be found in everything from websites to magazines. Colored pictures can look truly beautiful as a black and white display. You will usually have to convert your graphics, because although there are options with digital cameras, there are no true black and white digital cameras.

Correct the Colorcasts

An important part of black and white digital photography is correcting the colorcasts. These are caused by bad lighting, but you can use software such as PhotoShop Elements to make the relevant changes by using their editing applications. The Imaging Factory is also software that can help you to easily convert and fix lighting areas in your graphics to get the best look with your black and white digital photography. If you want to turn your graphics into black and white digital photography, you can step into a completely new dimension in photography. You can do an endless array of projects right from your own computer. <bio>Geri Stone publishes information about all types of photography at Discover Photography http://www.discoverphotographysite.com </bio>

Household items, whether they are appliances, cleaning supplies, or groceries, make up a significant portion of the average person's expenses. Not only can the purchase of these items cost a bundle, but often using these items can be expensive as well. One way to cut down on the costs of running a household is to purchase appliances that can save money while using them.

Buy "Do It Yourself" Appliances

Avoid paying extra for services, such as getting meat and cheeses sliced at the deli, by purchasing an electric food slicer. Three pounds of sliced roast beef costs $23.97 if purchased at the deli. The same amount of roast beef can be purchased in the meat section for $ 13.21, baked, and sliced at home. The electric food slicer not only can save hundreds of dollars in deli meats and cheeses, it also allows anyone to slice their own bread, vegetables, and fruits. A bag of sliced carrots for can be purchased for $ 1.99 or pound of whole, fresh carrots can be purchased for $ .79 and sliced at home. The prices for an electric food slicer can range between $34 and $470, but luckily, the inexpensive ones work just fine and are often smaller, taking up less counter-top space. The larger, more expensive, machines are only necessary for a person who does catering from home. No matter which electric food slicer is chosen, the savings generated by owning one will make up for the purchase cost in no time.

Avoid Products Requiring Refills

The dust buster is back! While products like the Swiffer are all the rage right now, the extra products that need to be purchased in order to use it can really break the bank. There is a different cloth for dry surfaces, wet surfaces, and dusting. A brand new Swiffer would need to be purchased if carpet needed to be cleaned, along with all of its accessories. Unlike the Swiffer, the classic dust buster is a one-time buy that can take care of messes on both carpet and hard floors. For $24.95, the dust buster takes away the need to buy replacement wet cloths, dry cloths, duster cloths, or another appliance to clean the carpet. And as for that stain on the kitchen floor? A paper towel or a sponge will work just fine.

It's All About the Energy

And of course, appliances that use less energy cost less money to run. One way to find energy efficient appliances is to look for the Energy Star Label. This label, which can be seen at http://www.energystar.gov, appears on appliances that meet strict energy efficiency criteria determined by the US Department of Energy and the US Environmental Protection Agency. The Energy Star label can help you find almost any appliance with the exception of water heaters, stoves, and ovens. People that choose to use energy efficient appliances see significant drops in their utilities bills. <bio>James Brown writes about http://www.homeappliancesonsale.com/Categories/Air%20Conditioners.html,http://www.homeappliancesonsale.com/Categories/Cooking%20Products.html </bio>

As an interior designer, it is only natural that I love to give people counsel as they attempt to make decorating decisions for their homes and offices. I love nothing more than to spend an afternoon over tea discussing color options, themes and good fabrics for my friends. I recently met with a client and together we came up with the idea for her to decorate her home office entirely with black and white art.

I must tell you that usually I am not a huge fan of black and white art. In fact, I have never suggested that a client decorate with it until this particular meeting. Sometimes I find that black and white art is quite boring. As I met with this client, however, and we talked about her tastes and her decorating hopes for her home office, we both determined that black and white art was the best choice for her.

I've now been on the hunt for great pieces of black and white art. I share this to encourage anyone who is looking for great black and white art that there are great uses for it and that there are places to find it. One of my favorite sources of black and white art has become antique stores. I have found the most lovely pieces of black and white art at various antique stores lately.

Just knowing that you want to decorate with black and white art may not be enough. Realize that you must have a good idea of the specific kind of art that you are hoping to find. I have discovered that there are many varieties of black and white art to choose from. Some pieces are vintage looking, and there is definitely a wide variety of modern pieces of black and white art to choose from.

Get online and do a search for black and white art. You might be surprised how much comes up. This is my favorite way to encourage clients to begin the process of narrowing down their style and preferences. You can often get a pretty good idea of the things you like when you see them first. So take your time and look at as many samples of black and white art as you can. The better idea you have of what you want, the better chance you will have of finding it.

I love nothing more than to help people decorate their homes and offices with style and creativity. The world of black and white art was recently opened up to me and I have fallen in love with its possibilities. <bio>Hallidae Thomason loves being an interior designer. She loves helping people find ideas like using black and white art in their homes.
You know, there is something that is definitely more artistic about black and white photography. I know I am getting a little away from the overall concept of digital photography. But as a photographer, you will no doubt run into the phenomenon that is black and white photography.

I can remember vividly a photography named Michael Zagaris who is the team photographer of the San Francisco 49ers. He said that he was just captivated by the use of black and white photography. The way the light and the shading are so much more evident. This helps contribute to the overall feeling and emotion of the moment that the black and white photo captures.

Some of you may be saying to yourselves that color photography has surely taken the place of black and white photography, and I would say that for the most part you are correct. An interesting note here is that black and white photography still holds a degree of nostalgia in most photographers, amateur and professional alike.Perhaps one reason for this nostalgia is of course that photography was first taken on black and white film. Not only that, but many photography students are tasked with taking black and white photos when they are in their first photography classes. I know in my first digital photography class I was astounded at the very idea. Only later when the photos were developed did I truly start to appreciate black and white photos.

Therefore if you are an amateur or even experienced photographer, I would encourage you to give black and white photography a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the level of sophistication it takes to really pull off a great black and white photo. After that you may be able to take in some advanced photos such as adding one stream of color. You may have seen these kinds of photos before when the photographer allows one color to be very evident in a black and white photo. For instance I can remember a picture of a little girl in a black and white photo, but the coat she was wearing was bright pink. It was great moment to capture.

As for taking the black and white photos themselves, more advanced digital cameras have gray-scale mechanisms that allow to this. Also you can have the color picture converted by using a digital photography software such as "Photoshop." Give yourself a chance in black and white photography. I think you will be pleasantly surprised in the results. <bio>If you would like to know more please visit http://tipsondigitalphotography.com/Black_White_Photography.html Timothy Cashman is an independent reviewer on products and services.
In 2006, one of the words to be added to the new edition of the Oxford American Dictionary was the word "tablescape." The word has been in use since 1991, but it has not come into common usage until recently. Tablescape basically means "everything you put on a table." Although that is a simple definition, the possibilities of what a tablescape actually looks like are endless. Table-scaping is the art of decorating your table with a variety of different "tools," in the form of tablecloths, runners, napkins, and placemats.

A tablecloth can be described as simply a covering for your table, but it is far from simple. There are many fabric choices, quality, style and shape, to choose from. The tablecloth will offer the most protection for the table, as it will usually cover the entire surface.

A table runner is similar to a tablecloth, but does not cover the whole table. Runners can be used to protect certain parts of the table while revealing the surface of the table in areas as well. For example, placing runners across the width of the table can be used as placemats on each side. A runner could also be placed down the center of the table to provide a place for other decorations so that they do not scratch the table surface.

Napkins and placemats are also available in a variety of choices. Although paper napkins and plastic placemats are good for picnics, when sitting down to dinner, a quality set of placemats and napkins can add a great deal of sophistication to your tablescape.

When it comes to tablescaping, the way you decorate your table can be as elaborate or simple as you like. The style you choose is entirely your own, which makes the possibilities endless. This could overwhelm some people, but if you approach it piece by piece, designing a tablescape can be very enjoyable. The secret is to start with a simple color theme or style design, and then stick to it. Once you decide on the main idea, the choices become much more limited, making the project less intimidating. For example, if it is the winter holiday season and you would like a snowy theme, the best colors to start with would be white, blue, and light shades of purple. With this foundation, your options become more limited and focused.

Many people may ask why go to all the effort to create a tablescape. There are two reasons for why it is worth it. First, if you have chosen a quality, beautiful piece of furniture for your table, protecting it is important. The table is a furniture piece that is used constantly, possibly many times a day. The longevity of the table is key. Protection of the finish from scratching and marring is provided by use of a table linen or runner.

The second reason for tablescaping is the need to create a peaceful and attractive place for you to enjoy your meals. Having such a place to eat meals at is much healthier for you than simply grabbing food and eating it over the counter. Research studies have show that people who sit and eat meals at a table eat more health foods, digest those foods more thoroughly, and gain the most benefit for their bodies. Eating slowly, turning off the television and other distractions, and eating with other people have been shown to help this as well.

In short, a peaceful, attractive, and pleasing tablescape can do wonders for your mind and body. It not only provides you with a healthier style of eating meals, but also offers a unique decoration to your home that you can be proud of creating.<bio>Read more about tablescaping and fine French table linens and table cloths with an assortment of runners, placemats, and napkins.</bio>
