Barbados is a great destination to visit on your holiday to the Caribbean. Barbados lies in the southern Caribbean, close to the South America continent. The climate is tropical, with mild temperatures kept bearable by the winds off the Atlantic Ocean. The island has the nickname `little England' owing to the stamp that the British left on this former colony. The national obsession is cricket - like many other former British colonies in the Caribbean. This suits the relaxed lifestyle of Barbados.

Barbados is more than just an island in the West Indies. It's almost a way of life, synonymous with exclusive hotels and fashionable restaurants. Barbados has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Yet what originally made the island so popular =96 its coral sand beaches, turquoise waters and warm, friendly people =96 is still very much in evidence. Even the tiny chattel houses retain their positions alongside the luxury West Coast hotels, ensuring that the island's natural charm is never sacrificed. Barbados' winter social scene continues to rival London's, with its stylish collection of West Coast restaurants. There are some good venues to try on the South Coast too, as well as some lively nightspots. This is just one reason why being independently mobile is always a good idea here. Another good reason to hire a car is to explore the island, in particular the East Coast where you'll find the island's most dramatic scenery. Alternatively, take a helicopter trip, a VIP escorted tour, a day aboard a luxury yacht, or perhaps an island safari. It would be impossible to describe Barbados without mentioning the game of golf. The design talents of Tom Fazio and Robert Trent Junior have been used to optimal effect on the championship courses at Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane.

A holiday to Barbados gives you the best of both worlds=85 relaxation for those looking to unwind and plenty of activities for the more active. <bio>For more information about luxury Caribbean holidays please see http://www.elegantresorts.co.uk/location/Caribbean.html </bio>

The State of Florida, whose capital is Tallahassee, is located in the Southeast of US which is a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida.
Well it might be wise to start this column off by stating that it comes with a bias. I love the Atlantic Ocean and I would not move away from it in a million years. My bias comes from the first 22 years of my life living on the beaches of Santa Barbara over on the west coast.

Not what you expected to hear I bet! Most people that grow up in California either stay there, right on the coast, or at least stay on the western side of the states where they can at least enjoy the mountains. I however have quite a different take, not an unpopular one either, especially after you are able to hear and to think about what you are able to hear and think about what you are about to read and ponder in the following paragraphs about the wonders of the Atlantic Ocean.

Growing up on the west coast was great don't get me wrong but there were certainly things that tainted the beautiful serenity of the Pacific ocean for me that are not associated with the Atlantic ocean in my mind.

Number one thing would be the drugs. Basically in California if you weren't a weirdo you were high on some chemical that made you forget about the high cost of living that you had to deal with and the constant threat of earthquakes ever lurking on the horizon of my anxiety. The mixture of these more than average stressors drove me to cocaine and heroin, which was everywhere you turned in sunny California and especially on the beaches. I'm sickened to think about the dragnet that this was for me and a lot of other folks who wasted their chance at a productive start on the shores of an ocean that was not the Atlantic Ocean.

The other main thing I love about the Atlantic Ocean is the relative lack of surfing, a sport I once loved but now detest. I lost my love to the jaws of a viscous Pacific Ocean shark as she was paddling out on a large wave day you see, and have renounced the sport that took so much from me. Its not that the east coast waters don't have sharks its just that they are colder and less enjoyable to surf in (less waves.)

So overall it isn't a love of the Atlantic Ocean for me so much as it is a hatred for the Pacific Ocean that haunts me with all of the deepest recesses of my life that I want to recover from and forget about. Maybe this way I will be able to fall asleep at night without valium. <bio>Hallidae Thomason understands that her love of the Atlantic Ocean is not rational--but when is true love rational? Go to http://www.funatlanticocean.info to learn many more wonders. </bio>

Oregon Coast vacation rentals offer vacationers plenty of options to enjoy a perfect getaway in this beautiful area of the United States' west coast. This area is a great place to enjoy a relaxing and fun filled holiday. There are many activities to choose from and picturesque places to view and photograph.

Oregon Coast vacation rentals can make your holiday quite comfortable and relaxing by offering the advantages you would find at home including your own kitchen and laundry facilities. Other amenities include barbeques, stereo systems, movies, hot tubs, fireplaces and games. You could also find a unit that allows you to bring your pet as well. These types of amenities are not available at all locations so it is important to find this out while doing your research.

Oregon Coast vacation rentals are great holidays for families to bring their children, as there is plenty for the kids to do especially along the beaches. The coast is not all beaches as there are magnificent rocky shorelines featuring crashing waves on the shore. There are magnificent forests that reach right to the coast as well. Some areas along the coast offer great crab and clamming along with fishing.

While staying at Oregon Coast vacation rentals there are plenty of activities to undertake in urban areas as well. These activities include antique shops, fine dining, artist studios, and galleries. Other tourist locations along the coast are The Sea Lion Caves, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Chinook Winds Casino and the Newport Historic Bayfront.

Many people take advantage of Oregon Coast vacation rentals to enjoy whale watching. Gray whales spend many months near the coast, especially in the summer and fall months but you can see them year round. Wear appropriate clothing and bring binoculars. Try to have the sun at your back to locate the blows with your eyes then focus in with the binoculars. In addition, calmer weather is much better for whale watching. You do not need to be on the water to see them, as there are many great vantage points along the coast. In the morning, with the sun at your back is best.

You can also find some excellent golf courses along the coast as well. Therefore, your Oregon Coast vacation rentals cover activities on land and on sea. Some people also enjoy sea kayaking along the coast too. You can find rentals that feature just one bedroom, two bedrooms, three bedrooms and even four bedrooms or more in some cases. Many homes available for rent are right on the coast so you get a spectacular ocean view.

There are many outdoor activities you can take part in while enjoying your Oregon Coast vacation rentals including biking and hiking that we have not already mentioned. You will find a herd of elk grazing in meadows near the coast. Other animals you may catch a glimpse of include beaver in nearby rivers and seals in the ocean. Along the river, you may also see bald eagles soaring high in the sky. For the hikers, there is a seventeen hundred foot hike up the NeahKahNie Mountain, which offers a spectacular sixty mile view of the coast. <bio>We provide information on a variety of travel destinations such Oregon Coast vacation rentals, Fort Lauderdale sport fishing, Sunriver vacation rentals and vacation rentals in Florence, Italy. http://www.theytravelnow.com/ by T.
If you become so bored with Orlando because there is not enough to do and you just have to leave town you are in luck. Orlando has some very popular neighbors that are not very far away and offer some great diversions: Tampa to the west and Cape Canaveral and the "Space Coast" to the east.

Tampa is located 84 miles to the west of Orlando on I-4. It is the commercial center of Florida's west coast with a major seaport, high tech manufacturing and one of the largest cigar making cities in America.

Major tourist attractions include: "Adventure Island" a 25 acre water theme park second to none in the country; "Busch Gardens" which has some great thrill rides and one of the best zoos in the country; the Florida Aquarium one of the best there is anywhere with over 5000 aquatic animals and plants; and Ybor City. Ybor City is a not to be missed glimpse into the heart of the Latin district, the very root of much of Florida, where great food, music, shopping all have the distinct aroma of a fine hand rolled cigar.

On the east coast 46 miles to the southeast of Orlando lies the "Space Coast" with Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. On a recent trip I asked the concierge if he had one day to do anything he wanted what it would be. After a split second he said Kennedy Space Center. 'Nuf said. It was absolutely awesome!!

Getting there is easy but you must have a car. NASA established some beautiful pristine wildlife areas around the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) that you will see on the way in and out but the major attraction is the Space Center. An extensive renovation project is underway so check to make sure anything special you want to see is open. It is very easy to spend the whole day there but the highlights can be done in 2-3 hours with the tour bus.

The bus makes stops along the way, get out, linger, see what you want, hop back on to the next stop. The tour has everything spacey you can imagine from actual rockets to lunch with an Astronaut. Check out the International Space Station Center where engineers are working on additions to the space station and the Apollo/Saturn V center with the largest rocket ever made.

The visitor center has food, souvenirs, an IMAX theater, a host of activities for children, and of course a wealth of information on space related topics-more than most people can handle.

So don't worry if you become bored in the fabulous city of Orlando there's plenty to do nearby.

For more information check the links below. <bio>Check out this website about fabulous http://www.orlandofunvacation.com He owns http://www.aaa-safetyfirst.com a one stop resource that provides solutions and answers for all your self defense and home security problems. Key West offers many different attractions that can make your stay there unforgettable.

The only bad thing that I can see about Key West is that there are so many different things to do; if you do not make a game plan before you go you might be overwhelmed. However once you get an idea of the different activities that you can do during your stay, you should have no problem having a great time. Key West offers many different attractions including fishing, snorkeling, museums, shopping, and many different tours of the area.

Fishing in Key West is out of this world. Key West boasts many professional fishing tournaments every year, because of the many different species that thrive in this area. You can catch blue marlin, sail fish, many different species of shark, as well as red snapper or grouper. If you would rather swim with the fish instead of catching them, then snorkeling might be right up your alley. The beautiful crystal blue waters of Key West allow you to swim with more than 200 species of fish.

If you would rather go back in history then the museums in Key West will take you where you want to go. From the Curry Museum, to the Ernest Hemingway museum, you will get an insight into the life that was enjoyed by the people that lived here many years ago. Of course Key West would not be a great place to visit without great shopping. This area offers many great places to shop from wineries, to island shops, to wonderful hand made furniture stores. Everyone can find what they need or want during their stay in Key West.

If you feel like you just do not know where to start then you can always take one of the many different tours that are available in Key West. The tour guides here are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the area, and are more than willing to help make your stay a memorable one. <bio>Visit http://www.key-west-usa.com/ for info on taking a Key West Vacation. </bio>

When you imagine hiking trips, you think of the Smokey Mountains and the Appalachian Trail. There are many unknown destinations that give you a different and sometimes better experience than you ever imagined. Florida has many different kinds of terrain to offer to hikers of all accomplishments. It does not take a mountain trail to create a great a great trip. Florida has a tropical edge that is not recreated anywhere else in the US.

Florida has an excellent trail system that runs the whole length of the state. South Florida boasts and area called Big Cyprus that has been made famous by local photographer Clyde Butcher. The South Florida Everglades offer a complex system of lakes and marshes that offer all kinds of different experiences. Hike alongside lakes with beautiful palmetto and pine trees. You can even take an excursion on an airboat that skims along the water powered by an engine with an airplane propeller.

You can head north via trails that head on the east and west coasts of the state. The west coast features warm, lush forests and sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Along the east coast you will find huge beaches and cooler climates that are fed by the Atlantic Ocean. You will be able to see the environment change drastically as you hit the middle of the state. Pine trees start to mingle with oaks and maples. There is also the start of some elevation changes as you move inland.

Reaching Northern Florida brings you to a fork where you will need to decide if you would like to go east or west. This is a larger decision than near the beginning in South Florida because as you work North from that point the east and west trail meet a couple times. Up here, the eastern route will lead you to Jacksonville and north where there are beautiful islands to explore along the Atlantic Ocean. Hiking east will bring you along the panhandle of Florida towards Alabama along the Gulf of Mexico.

Florida also has a very diverse ecosystem where you may see alligators in South Florida and then see deer in central and North Florida. There is also nothing like camping on a desolate beach and waking up to the surf in the morning. Florida is truly a fantastically unique hiking experience. <bio>For more information about hiking please visit http://www.go-hiking.info for all of your hiking needs. </bio>

A Great Mexico Travel Special should include time spent on the Mexico Caribbean Coast, where you will find so much to do and so many things to enjoy. You can easily organise a Mexico Vacation Package that will allow you to travel around Mexico seeing some of the Country's amazing sights and then allow you to finish with a relaxing time on the Mexico Caribbean Coast.

On the Caribbean coastline of Mexico there are spellbinding soft white sand beaches, and clear unpolluted turquoise blue seas. There are lagoons, coves and inlets, and that is the reason for the popularity with tourists, and many many thousands of Mexico vacation packages are sold every year to the Yucatan Peninsula. That is not to say it is all like Cancun and Cozumel, busy and energetic, because there are many other places of great charm for holidaymakers to stay, and many many things for them to do.

The Mexico Caribbean Coast is in the state of Quintana Roo, with Yucatan to the north, the west by Campeche, and then there is the British Belize to the south.

The way that the Caribbean coast has been developed shows different characteristics dependent on where you go. As an example Puerto Morelos is a very relaxed fishing village sort of place, whilst Playa del Carmen is packed with resorts and is a home to the all inclusive vacation.

The Mexico Caribbean Coast isn't just about beaches and partying, and many people have a Mexico Travel Special vacation involving the Mayan culture. Wherever you look along the coast there is evidence of this ancient civilization in the ruins all along the coast.

Tulum on the coast has dramatic ruins overlooking the Caribbean welcoming the sunrise every morning, and are the only Mayan ruins overlooking the sea. If you then go a short distance inland to Coba you will see the towering pyramids which are now covered by the jungle but nevertheless impressively shows how important the site was in ancient times.

If you continue to travel south along the Mexico Caribbean Coast you will come to the archaeological dig at Kohunlich where there are not only pyramids but also temples and palaces. This is a great place to go because despite all the wonderful work unearthing these ancient buildings there are very few people who visit.

Right down at the border with Belize there is the capital of Quintana Roo calledChetuma This is a modern city but worth a visit just to see the brightly painted wooden houses left over from time gone by.

To summarise some of the top reasons to go to the Mexico Caribbean Coast.

The ruins of Tulum. Diving or snorkelling at Puerto Morelo's Natural reef Park. Exploring the inland jungle and the ancient ruins. Relaxing, perhaps with a thoroughly decadent massage or body treatment in an all inclusive resort for which the Mexico Caribbean Coast has become famous. If you like fishing, then casting for bonefish off the Chinchorro Reef.

Here there is something for everyone who takes a Mexico Vacation Package

For more information go to http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com/categories/Caribbean-Hotel-Hideaways/ <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and has visited personally many of the places he reports on, and has done extensive research on the others </bio>

Central Coast California real estate-this is the location of many people's dreams.

Obviously, California is considered by many people as one of the most spectacular states in America, with it's mix of mountain ranges, national parks, lakes, and of course, the bordering Pacific Ocean to it's west.

Combine that with the warm and dry weather the state receives, and it is one of the most in demand places to live anywhere in the country. No, it's not cheap to live in this area of the state, as I will explain later, but there are some ways to save money.

What areas does the central coast consist of? Generally, it is anyplace between Monterey Bay and Point Conception.

It goes through five different counties in between. As you might expect for this area, central coast California real estate is very pricey when compared with real estate around the country, due to the pacific ocean and of course, the fact that it's in the state of California.

Anywhere you want to move in California, you can expect to pay an arm and a leg, and this is just amplified if you want to live on the coast.

However, if you have the money, it is definitely worth it. The area has a thriving tourism industry, as many people want to bask in the California sunshine during their breaks.

Obviously, as I alluded to before, it has tremendous views of the pacific ocean, and in fact, the coastline in the area stretches for some two hundred and fifty miles. The university of California and California state are both located in the area as well, so if you have kids that will go to college someday, this is another consideration.

Another benefit of this area is that it is not a big city atmosphere. Unlike San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, etc, this area is much more subdued and relaxed, and offers the great weather these places do but without that big city atmosphere.

The area actually only contains about three percent of the state's population, largely because there are no big cities located within the central coast of California. However, despite the smaller town feeling, you still get all the benefits of being near a large city, as San Diego and Los Angeles are both just a short drive away.

No matter what kind of entertainment you enjoy, you can find it in these cities, so the central coast really is the best of both world, in that you get all the advantages of a big city without actually having to live in the daily hustle and bustle of it.

How do the prices compare with the rest of the state? Generally, they are around twenty percent higher, but unless you plan on moving to Santa Barbara, the homes are still reasonably priced.

The best thing about central coast California real estate is that the prices have been going down as of late. Particularly with the recent economic woes, so if you want to get in, now is definitely the time.

The bottom line is, if you are looking for an outdoor lover's paradise, with tremendous ocean views and year round ideal temperatures, and you have the budget to handle it, then this is the place for you.<bio>Tired of overpaying and losing money with real estate?
Devil Facial Tumour Disease (referred to as DFTD) is the name given to a fatal condition that is afflicting a significant portion of the native population of Tasmanian devils. The condition first becomes noticed as small lesions or lumps around the mouth that develops into large tumours predominantly around the face and neck, but sometimes in other parts of the body as well.

DFTD was first reported in the mid 1990's and has now been confirmed in most areas throughout Tasmania except for north-west and west coast devil populations. It is having a major impact in areas with high-density populations, and is predominantly affecting the adult populations. The disease does not usually become apparent in devils until they are at least two years old. The cancers affect the capability of the devil to ingest food thereby weakening the animal and making it more difficult for it to compete with other animals for food. Evidence suggests that animals appear to die within three to five months of the lesions first appearing, from starvation and the breakdown of body functions.

There are three well-known types of malignant skin tumours. In all of them the ultraviolet rays from the sun plays a significant etiological role. The most common one is basal cell carcinoma or basaloma, which does not metastasize and is the more benign of the three types. Sometimes it grows very aggressively with a great tendency for recurrence, and destroys underlying tissue, bone, cartilage etc., with pronounced cosmetic and functional defects as a consequence.

A facial tumour disease is continuing to ravage Tasmania's wild devils, with almost half of the devil population believed lost to the disease. Fears the disease is spreading have been realised, with 3 new cases discovered in the south of the state.

Malignant melanoma is the type of tumour presently increasing the most in incidence. It spreads both through lymphatic pathways and hematogenously, and in the long term has a bad prognosis, especially if the tumour is not discovered until it has grown deep into the skin. It is usually pigmented by the melanin in the melanocytes. This may not always be the case, as so-called amelanotic , i e not blue or brown colored, melanomas exist.

The disease has now spread across 65 per cent of the state, with 3 new cases discovered in southern Tasmania. The disease is across the eastern part of the state and extends as far west as the Cradle Valley, and also down into the south of the state. To date we haven't recorded the disease on the west coast or in the far north-west, so it's in the eastern parts of the state that the disease is having the greatest impact. <bio>More information on Facial Tumour Disease at http://FacialTumour.eask.info </bio>

Whether you're staying in the vibrant capital city of Dublin or in a rural idyll on the west coast, you'll find more to do than you have time for -- and time definitely moves more slowly when you take a holiday here.

The food

Irish restaurants offer some of the most wonderful food. Its island position gives it access to a wide range of seafood and its fertile land is ideal for livestock and produce farmers. Local chefs create fabulous dishes with this local produce, and you can create your own gastronomic delight with freshly caught mussels and perfect Irish cheese.

The landscape

Whether you enjoy coastal walks or mountain trails, Ireland has something to offer. Its west coast faces the Atlantic, with nothing between you an North America except thousands of miles of ocean, and spectacular cliffs stand alongside sheltered beaches and wider stretches of sand. There is said to be more shades of green in Ireland than anywhere else, and from some of the country's most famous vantage points, you can count them all as you spy across hills and valleys.

The people

The Irish are welcoming people for whom tourism is an important economy. Centuries of emigration mean that many tourists come to Ireland to research their family history or to visit places their ancestors called home and today's inhabitants are happy to help wherever they can. Notoriously child-friendly, Ireland is an ideal resort for families with children of any age, and local hospitality in restaurants, pubs and guest houses is one of the things that stays with you long after you return home.

If you've yet to visit Ireland, then it's time you took a look at what's on offer. Be warned though: one visit is never enough! <bio>The Irish Riviera is a dedicated to promoting the south coast of Ireland, helping you to find accommodation, travel and things to see and do.
Unless you have a month on your hands, forget about seeing the whole of the Western Cape in a single trip. There are so many charming seaside towns and villages nestled in picturesque valleys to visit, you will have to plan your route very carefully if you want to see everything you want. You should decide whether you want to spend your time primarily on the East Coast, the West Coast or in the interior. Whichever route you choose, you are bound to have an unforgettable experience.

One of the most popular tourist routes to take is of course the world-famous Garden Route. This goes from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, and meanders through charming Karoo towns and stunning beachside resorts. If you want to make a week of it, you can stop at several towns along the way including Oudtshoorn, Wilderness, Nature's Valley, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Each of these towns would make the perfect holiday destination, but a tour of all of them is possible within a few days.

If you choose to take a trip up the West Coast, make sure you are there in time for the wildflower season. During certain months of the year the hillsides are dotted with stunning flowers of all varieties, and driving along the coast is a thrilling aesthetic experience. Spend some time in stunning resort towns such as Langebaan, Paternoster, Darling and Britannia Bay where you can experience some of the best fishing and wine estates in the Western Cape.

The Western Cape is of course famous for the wine produced in this region, which parallels some of the finest French varieties in terms of quality and character. Spend a day touring the wine estates in the Stellenbosh and Franchoek regions, where almost every estate offers exclusive wine tasting days and delightful restaurants. One of the most famous of these is the Spier Wine Estate, which offers itself as a center of culture, art, food and wine in the Western Cape.

If you are a nature enthusiast, there are plenty of places that offer stunning walks at any difficulty level. Amateur walkers can take a stroll through the beautiful Kirstenbosh Gardens, but for those who want to experience Western Cape nature at its finest the Otter Trail has more to offer than any other trail. This five day hike crosses a wide variety of terrains and ends up in the stunning Nature's Valley, a premier Garden Route destination.

If you are planning a trip to the Western Cape, be sure to set out your itinerary carefully or you could end up without a direction to follow. Decide whether you want to experience scenery, culture, excitement or night life and plan your trip accordingly. Don't be concerned with missing out though, because anywhere you go you will have the time of your life. <bio>Let us help you with your next vacation to the Western Cape by visiting http://www.westerncapeaccommodation.co.za </bio>

North, South, East and West don't have a lot of meaning on the island of Oahu. Sure, there are some references to these points-of-the-compass: The North Shore is famous for its big wave surf and West Oahu is booming with development, but you're much more likely to hear the term Windward Oahu than you are East Oahu and we haven't even begun discussing the local terms for direction of mauka, makai, ewa and Diamond Head.

Consider for a moment the geography of Oahu--it's an island, surrounded by water (obviously) that rises from sea level around its coast line to a series of mountain ridges in its middle. Diamond Head is a prominent coastal landmark located on the Southern-most point of the island. These features are what are used for directions and navigation by those of us who grew up on the island of Oahu. No looking for moss on the side of the tree. No sun rises in the East and Sets in the West nonsense. Directions are simple and direct. You can go Mauka (towards the mountains) or Makai (towards the sea). You can go Diamond Head (towards Diamond Head crater) or Ewa (away from Diamond Head crater). Since no matter where you are on the island, you can almost always see the ocean, the mountains and, at least until recently, Diamond Head using these geographical markers to get from point A to point B make sense.

To those of us who grew up on Oahu this is simple, easy to understand and clear to convey. It's only when you try to explain it to someone unfamiliar with the island's directional concept that it starts to get confusing. For instance, let's say that you are standing in the town of Kailua on the Windward side (east side) of the island, facing North then clearly Makai would be on your right (or east) and Mauka would be on your left (or West). Ewa would also be on your left (or West) and Diamond Head would be to your Southwest. Now let's say that you are at Pearl Harbor in West Oahu and again facing North then ipso facto Makai would now be on your left (or west) and Mauka would be on your right (or east.) You would be in Ewa and Diamond Head would be to your Southeast. Now, let's put you facing North while in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu. Makai would now be North: Mauka, Diamond Head and Ewa would all be to the South--see how easy this is to navigate by? Finally, let's have you standing in Diamond Head Crater on Southern Oahu and facing North. Makai is now to the South, Mauka is to the North, you're in Diamond Head and Ewa is to the Northwest. With a little practice and you will be able to get around like you lived on Oahu all your life. If you were to drive around the island in a clockwise direction makai would always be on your left but at varying times would be to the North, South, East and West. Similarly, mauka would always be on your right and at varying times would be to the North, South, East and West. <bio>Mike Keesling works for Pacific Islands Reservations.
Africa is a land of mystery. The diversity of culture throughout the dark continent is a portrayal of humankind's evolution from its beginnings to modern times. The native inhabitants of the continent are a conglomeration of tribal communities, but in the fifteenth century the Europeans sent explorers to Africa in their quest for expansion. In the southwest, along the Gulf of Guinea, is The Ivory Coast. In the mid eighteen hundreds this land of abundant resources captured the interest of the French government who established a colony there. The Ivory Coast was subject to the crown of France for over 100 years until it gained its independence in 1960.

France's influence on The Ivory Coast is such that even now, with an independent government, the African nation has maintained firm ties with its European benefactors. In 1985 they officially established themselves as La Republique de Côte d'Ivoire (French translation for the Republic of the Ivory Coast) and are listed on the United Nations registry as such. Although British and American news agencies still refer to it as The Ivory Coast, presumably to minimize confusion, the country is properly known in any language as Côte d'Ivoire.

It is an exotic country that is a mosaic of coastal forests laced with inland lagoons that give way to the savannas and grasslands of the interior. The climate in Côte d'Ivoire is warm and humid with three distinct seasons. They are warm and dry from November to March, hot and dry from March to May, and hot and wet from June to October.

The agriculture of the Ivory Coast makes it one of the most prosperous regions in Africa. In the south, on the Ebrie Lagoon, is a land mass of converging islands and peninsulas. This is where the city of Abidjan was built. Abidjan is a booming business and cultural center, and was once the former capital of Ivory Coast. It is known as the "Paris of Africa" with fashionable shopping districts and world class hotels, and is billed as one of the safest most desireable tourist destinations in West Africa.

Abidjan international airport is serviced by Air France and Swissair, as well as other local airlines. There are taxis, buses and trains available in the terminal. These options are inexpensive, but safety precautions need to be taken when using these modes of transportation. Car rentals are also available.

There is a good selection of hotel accommodations in Abidjan. The list includes Hotel Tiama, Novotel Abidjan, African Queen Lodge, Ibis Abidjan Marcory, and the Hotel Ivoire Intercontinental to name a few.

Vacationing in Africa would be considered adventure travel by most. The cultures there are diverse and, at times, are at odds with each other. But, going beyond one's own boundaries and experiencing the customs of a different culture can certainly help in bridging the gaps in a conflicted world. Abidjan is a city that has effectively integrated its cultural diversity into a functioning society. Travelers would benefit from the education of visiting there.<bio>For more information on the Ivory Coast, visit http://www.AbidjanBlog.net</bio>

The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of wonderful coastline. Italy is such a wonderful place and the Amalfi Coast really encapsulates its beauty. The terrain can be rugged, but the scenery is to die for. And there are plenty of things to do. You'll find great local items--try the wine while you're there.

The Amalfi Coast is a World Heritage Site. There are several coast towns, including: Amalfi, Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Conca dei Marini, Positano, Praino and Furore. You're also right by Naples, which is a great Italy city.

Most of the famous sights along the Amalfi Coast are churches. There are great scenic spots, little shops, bars and other places to visit. If you're planning to stay anywhere in the Amalfi Coast area, you can a wide selection. There's the "world famous" luxury hotels, the small bed and breakfast, the budget-friendly hotel and everything in between.

Here's a collection of Amalfi Coast hotels that you might be interested in. I've broken them down by location along the coast as well.

Positano

Il San Pietro -- This is the best place to stay around Positano, from a luxury perspective. The price is higher, but you have access to a private beach and bar. There's even a pool on the upper level of the hotel. This hotel is just outside of Positano.

Palazzo Murat -- If you want to be in the heart of Positano, this hotel is for you. The price is midlevel. The bedrooms are very comfortable and bigger than usual. They take guests from April through September (the typical Italy vacation season).

La Fenice -- This is a budget-friendly establishment. It's a smaller hotel located on the edge of Positano. The walkways are steep, so if you have issues walking, this wouldn't be a place for you. Try to get a room that's closest to the water.

Amalfi

Santa Caterina -- This is a large mansion that located just outside of the main area of Amalfi. It's one of the best hotels along the Amalfi Coast. This hotel features 66 rooms, 2 restaurants, cable TV, saltwater pool, gym, beach access, bars, and data ports. It's definitely a great place to stay if it's within your budget.

Hotel dei Cavalieri -- Located on the outskirts of Amalfi is this clean-looking hotel. The rooms are bright and fully furnished. You can start the day right by enjoying their breakfast buffet. This Amalfi Coast hotel offers 54 rooms, one restaurant, cable TV, and a bar.

As is the case with any hotel along the Amalfi Coast, you need to book ahead of time. As you can see, these hotels don't have thousands of rooms and they will get booked up. The Amalfi Coast is very beautiful with lots to do. You really can't go wrong with spending some time here. Some Italy vacationers spend their entire vacation in this area. And of course, you can always take a quick trip over to Sorrento or Naples too.<bio>If you'd like to learn more about "Amalfi Coast Italy" check out the link. Bicycle along the beach; through tree-shrouded streets and shady, hidden lanes; through the "Presidential Gate" in the Old Navy Base, along the old waterfront -- and into history. They will discover the Key West of the natives!

Christian Rieger, president of the parent corporation, The Bike Tour of Key West Z, Inc., says, "Our team of professional guides wend and wind guests through the nooks and crannies of this sea-faring town at the edge of a continent. They see small cottages and grand old mansions amidst stately palms and lofty mahogany trees. They get the full gamut of this city of 19th century ship salvagers, cigar-makers, and spongers."

The island's association with American history started in 1821 with a merchant by the name of John Simonton. This well-heeled, New Jersey-born man had been treasurer of that state's first chartered bank. He had a few bucks in his pocket and appreciated the strategic value of Key West.

He sailed to Havana and bought it from Juan P. Salas for $2,000 cash. $2,000 was then like a couple of million dollars is today. All things considered, it was quite a deal because as a local once said, "You can't hardly buy a tree for that."

Soon after the purchase, New England seafarers, Bahamians, and Cubans settled on the island. Back then it was then v-e-r-y isolated from the rest of America. It was at the end of a string of small islands extending down from the vast semi-tropical wilderness of the Everglades.

The two closest Floridian cities were Panama City on the west coast, and St. Augustine on the east coast. No cars, no planes, no trains, and no Miami. Just boats, mosquitos, and lots of distance between here and anywhere else. These were less hurried times. "Although busier today," says Rieger, "The bike tour takes guests as if through a time warp to those simpler, easier-paced times."

Along the way, participants see quaint old cottages and grand old Victorian mansions that hail from a century and a half ago. Guests visit a place visitors to Key West rarely get to see -- what Key West looked like before human settlement.

"We visit a one-acre, Private Rain Forest Preserve replete with parrots, orchids, bamboos, stately palms and majestic mahogany trees. Most participants think this is the highlight of the tour. It is part of someone's home, and travelers rarely get to visit the grounds of a private residence -- even more so one looks like a rain forest.

"We also bicycle along a beach with Cuba 90 miles to our south. There is a stop with a photo op at the Southernmost Point. Just before the end of end of the tour, we visit a Key Lime bakery for a complimentary piece of Key West's favorite dessert -- Key Lime Pie. This is made the classical way with real Key Limes, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks and graham cracker crust."

Join the Key West Bike eco Tour -- smell the tropical air, the salt sea and witness the history of Key West in what one newspaper said "has the most unique history in the United States." <bio>Christian Rieger has been writing financial and travel articles since 1965. He has also written sightseeing scripts for New York, Savannah, Key West, San Juan and Fort Lauderdale. http://www.keywestbikeecotour.com </bio>

RVs have been a long established means of touring or vacationing in Australia. The size of the country, plus the comparitively small population, has made it a requirement to plan well for an extended trip.

Many visitors from North America or Europe are surprised by the scale of the country, roughly equivalent to each of these continents.

I have driven by car many times between Sydney and Perth, from the East (Pacific Ocean) coast to the West (Indian Ocean) coast. This is a distance of 4000 Kilometers or 2500 miles, driving 10-14 hours a day takes 4 days. (the Indian Pacific train trip takes 2 1/2 days, by air it's 4 hours)

Now consider that one third of the area of the country is the state of Western Australia. WA has a population of 1.5 million, of whom 1.3 million live in Perth. This compares with the total Australian population of 20 million. So there is not much in the rest of the State. Crossing the Nullabor plain there is a gap between service stations and motels, for fuel and rest, of 100 miles or 160 Km.

The dream of many an Aussie on retirement, is to travel around the country in some form of RV. So there is a growing, and continually refreshing market for all types. Motor homes, class A, B, or C, conventional trailers, or caravans, fifth wheelers, and camper vans. Along with conversions, professional or home grown, these vehicles are increasingly seen on the highways throughout the country.

Another factor affecting the design requirements of an RV for use in Australia, is the climate variances. The Northern areas are tropical, the Southern areas are temperate, and get snow in the high country.

Throughout the country, but especially in the centre and on the West coast, there is a high proportion of sunshine, and ultra-violet exposure of people and materials can be a problem. Temperatures can range from 40-45C in Summer, to -10-15 in the Winter. Of course this is the andquot;wrong way roundandquot;, and you can escape a freezing Europe or North America for a Hot Christmas vacation.

RV rentals are readily available in all areas of the country, and you can pick up and drop off at different points. You can find your own beach, with no-one around, or visit a camel farm, or gold, or diamond mine.

If you would like to be a little more adventurous, you can rent a 4x4 RV and experience the outback. There are also guided tours in 4x4s so you can go and see the bush, and the wildlife - crocodiles, anyone? <bio>Tony is a retiree in Australia, and a keen traveller.
