A Step in the Right Direction at Nashville Schools

We're all familiar with the kinds of students who are projected to be potential leaders in high schools =96 the debate team member, the math club geek, the student council president. These are the stereotypical American leaders of tomorrow; lucky enough to have their special abilities recognized while they are still in school. But what of the other less visible role models? The kid with a stammer who has a lot to say if he could only get the words out clearly enough, the teenage mom with unlimited potential, even the kid at the back row who spends more time in detention than in class?

You'd cringe at the thought of these students being portrayed as leaders and nobody would blame you. In a groundbreaking new program, Nashville schools believe that this exact group of "low on achievement but high on potential" students has the capabilities to make an impact on society. So confident are Metro Nashville schools that these students, if given a gentle nudge, can make equal or greater contributions to society that they are partnering with local community organizations to promote this belief.

Identifying Role Models at Metro Nashville Public Schools

Alignment Nashville, a group that aims to bring together Nashville schools and local community organizations like the YMCA, and Hands on Nashville, wants to create a more organized framework for co-operation between these bodies. Earlier well intentioned attempts to coordinate Nashville schools and voluntary organizations fizzled because of the unsystematic nature of the efforts. This time around the focus is on going beyond words to actual implementation. The organization has launched a couple of programs at two Metro Nashville Public Schools targeting students who possess leadership capabilities but are currently frittering away these abilities in other pursuits. In other words it aims to draw out the potential of at-risk teens who might not have otherwise had a shot at any roles in the school system, leave alone positions of leadership.

Creating Unlikely Leaders at Nashville Schools

This heartening initiative to empower students in Metro Nashville Public Schools who have been marginalized and draw them into leadership roles in the system works in a surprisingly simple manner. Staff is asked to nominate students they feel are currently on the fringes of the school, but could blossom given the right opportunities.

The program then aims to target these students through reading programs, discussions, maintaining journals, enhancing problem solving and team work abilities. Students are encouraged to communicate successfully and respect diversity. Although it's still too early to gauge the success of this program, authorities at Metro Nashville Public Schools say changes are already visible. Students in the programs are already assuming positions in school bodies and clubs and even at other local organizations. In the long run, Nashville schools expect this commendable program to lead to fewer dropouts, decreased school fights and an overall enhanced school environment for all. <bio>Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
While television and other media have made it a practice to anoint well-known celebrities as positive role models for kids, the great majority of people still believe that parents should be the foremost role models of their children. The following is a compilation of various ways that can help parents become better role models for their kids.

In terms of nurturing children, the most common comment is to show your love and concern. Tell them you love them every day and show affection daily through hugs, kisses and touches. In spite of busy schedules, make time for special family fun activities. Also make the effort to meet your child's friends to build stronger rapport with them and to gauge the influence they exert on your kids.

Understanding is another key in becoming an effective role model for your child.

As the saying goes, andquot;Understand - don't take a stand.andquot; Communication is vital and should always be a two-way street. Listen to your kids and find out what's going on in their lives and if anything is bothering them. Let them know that they can talk to you about anything under the sun. It is important to remember that children who have good communication with their parents are more likely to ask for their advice than turn to their peers.

Parents constantly demand respect from their children, but remember that is it is not something that can be taken for granted. Like most things of real value, respect has to be earned. And oftentimes, the best way to earn respect is to give respect. This also means that you have to learn to empathize, to put yourself in your kid's shoes and understand what it means to be him. And always try to avoid putting your children in situations where they feel disregarded, disrespected, humiliated or embarrassed. Such situations can sometimes leave deep emotional scars.

Remember that you have to teach your children to respect themselves as well. Teach them to stand up for themselves without putting their safety at risk. Discuss ways to solve problems without fighting. Make them aware that fighting never solves a problem. Most importantly, advise them that physical force or intimidation does not win respect, rather, it is the quality of one's character that wins respect. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://foracloserfamily.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://letsdosomeyardwork.com/ and http://forsocietiessake.com/ </bio>

If you have ever experimented with photography and especially infrared photography you know that not to many years ago this was quite a hassle. Not only would you need special films that needed the correct handling but you would also have the trouble of black and white processing and the inability to evaluate your result until you had used of the whole roll of film and you had the pictures printed. What a waste of time and money.

Luckily this is now all changed due to the invention of the digital camera and thereby the ability to take a digital photography. Now you are able to take digital infrared photos whenever and where ever you please. These can even be mixed with normal photos and by looking at the LCD screen on the camera you are able to instantly see the result and adjust your settings to get the picture just right.

The result of your infrared pictures will naturally depend on how your camera sensor array reacts to the infrared and secondly it will depend on the filter you are using and how it reacts to the far end of the visible spectrum

Are infrared pictures that different?

When you first look at a monochrome photo that is taken with an infrared camera filter it might look almost identical to every other black and white picture. If you look closely you will begin to see the differences such as the objects which are bright in the visible light will appear dark while some of the "things" that are normally dark will be given a fair glowing light.

The reason for this is simple and can be explained if you look at a graph showing the fraction of light reflected off the different materials at the different wavelengths. The actual height of the curves will show how bright every material is in a visible light while another curve will tell you how bright they are in infrared.

The biggest difference between the infrared spectrum and the visible spectrum is in the case of foliage. Foliage becomes very bright in infrared as you will be able to see if you have ever taken infrared pictures before.

Pictures that are in infrared will show quite an unusual tonality that is different than that which we are used to seeing. This effect will make them very pleasing to the eye in most (if not all) cases. This will naturally be a debate about taste that we do not need to enter into.

The digital camera

To start with you will need a digital camera. Most digital cameras today have a special infrared filter blocking in front of the light sensitive CCD array as the infrared light degrades the visible light color rendition. Depending on the camera there is a difference in how much of infrared the filter will let through.

Some of the early models, like the venerable Olympus C-2000Z/C-2020Z and Nikon 950 are very permissive here, while the more recent models let just enough of infrared light through to be suitable for infrared photography. While most of these require a really long exposure they also offer a solution for a workaround. You must remember that the camera makers do everything they can to stop the infrared from reaching the sensor. <bio>Mikael's site at http://www.mrieck.com/digital-photography/ about infrared photography digital cameras holds substantial information about digital photography and every aspect related to photography and digital cameras. </bio>

It can be said that everything you needed to know in life you learnt in kindergarten. "Don't take what is not yours "and "Always tell the truth".

Yet many people do not understand what you might consider to be perfectly clearly basic truths of life that are clearly understood and fully comprehended your four year old. That is to "Tell the truth" and "Not to take what is Not Yours".

These are the simple basics of a happy and secure life. In most cases you learnt them by example- either by a close family member or another very important example in your life.

Many people you will meet in your travels may repeat simple phrases and slogans such as "Those that do not plan -- plan to fail" or such truisms as "The job is not done until the tools (or paperwork) is either put away or finished.

Yet the amazing thing is that most of these same people do not comprehend simple truths that you as child learnt. It is amazing that even a hamster seems to know such things intuitively and instinctively.

How can this be? Why is it that apparently intelligent or in many cases non intelligent people cannot grasp these simple and apparent truisms.

The answer comes down to two factors. Firstly the examples these people saw in life whether it was from their home and family environment or other important role models. It is most important that you set good role models in your parenting skills.

Secondly in life and in many job or power structures a person is promoted not to the station that he or she is best at or most competent but rather to the stage at which his terrible incompetence stops them and their progress up the ladder of life..

Think of it who is it that influenced you to good worthwhile habits in life. What is a family member, an uncle a neighbor? This person may have inadvertently set you on the good path. It is much better to learn from a good role model than have to overcome the mistakes that a poor role model will leave you to overcome

Secondly it should be understood that in life people do not stop at their level of competence. Organizations whether it is at your place of work, your church, school or non profit group tend to promote people until even after trouble begins. Organizational structure is such people are seldom trained for their jobs. They are thrust into a position that they are not trained for and bumble through. To make it worse their role model of choice is their previous poorly or untrained processor... This cycle of life goes on and on infinitum.

Winston Churchill said democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. The same can be said for role models in life. The same parallels can be said about the job site and parenting skills. It is amazing that there are not more homicides in the workplace among staff and management. <bio>Bill Z Piker IT Dept head call_kirk@hotmail.com Ace Employment Services http://www.aceemploymentservices.net </bio>

Recently on "America's Got Talent" a 75 year old woman performed a song and dance routine. (This reference is not to the popular Rappin' Granny.)

Before she began I mentally cheered her on with, "You go girl!" I was reminded of a CD an older woman sent to me that captured her singing performance at a local nightspot. She was fantastic.

And why not. if Tony Bennett at 80 something can still sing, others can do it too.

As it turned out, the contestant did not have a million dollar talent. How I wish she had been sensational. Because we are living longer, healthier lives, we desperately need accomplished older role models to show us what's possible late in life.

I often mention Dr. Helen Harkenss, author of Don't Stop the Career Clock, who has inspired me more than I can say. (I can't reveal her age because I don't know it, she doesn't tell, and it doesn't matter anyway. It's her accomplishments that count, not her advanced age.)

Other role models of mine include 80 something David Oreck who still promotes his vacuum cleaners. Compare his sharp agile mind and youthful demeanor to that of many retirees his age whose brains and bodies have turned to mush.

Then there is 90 something Art Linkletter who writes books and does almost non-stop speaking gigs. When I was interviewed for his book, How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life, he and I disagreed about living in retirement communities, but we got beyond that. He has a flexible open mind and can see other points of view.

How about 90 plus Jack LaLanne, a testament to the benefit of lifelong super nutrition and exercise. He oozes energy. How can you watch his juicer infomercial and not want to buy two of them?

Recently, I watched a video that is truly awesome. I found it in "Celebrations" the official newsletter for Older Wiser Women=99. It shows 80 something Yvonne Dowlen ice skating, and doing it very well. When I tell people I ice skate, (not very well, but determination springs eternal!) a common response is, "Aren't you afraid of falling?" Well, yes and no. I am more afraid of stepping off a curb and turning my ankle, which I have done on more than one occasion.

Fear is sometimes a healthy thing. It makes us stop and think. If forces us to face reality. On the other hand, unreasonable fear keeps us from doing what we want to do and know we could do if we tried. And if only we weren't held back by a nagging inner voice that warns, "Be careful. You're too old to do that." We need role models like Yvonne Dowlen to help us overcome an age-based irrational fear of trying.

The video also makes clear that if you want a youthful flexible body in your older years, you have to start early to keep what you have. You can't wait until you are 65, suddenly realize that you've almost completely lost all youthful competence and decide to try to recapture what's lost.

While some improvement is always possible, the longer you wait to reclaim what's gone, the more difficult it is. A sedentary body rebels at being forced to do what it really doesn't want to do anymore. There is nothing worse than realizing "It's too late." As entertainer Eubie Blake was known to say, "If I had known I would live this long I would have taken better care of myself."

Whatever age you are now is a good time to take better care of yourself. The younger you are when you start the easier it is. And it's truly helpful if you can find inspiring role models to look to for encouragement. <bio>Barbara Morris is a pharmacist and author of Put Old on Hold.
There are plenty of opportunities for men to become models, because as yet, it simply doesn't draw the same attention. Partially due to this fact, the male modeling industry is considered to be more relaxed than the female industry. Models can start later, have a career spanning a much greater length of time, and still be paid well for the best shoots. However, it isn't all fun and games -- male models require as much drive and determination as their female counterparts and there are still presumed industry standards that need to be met.

Ideal Attributes For The Male Model

Ideal height is between 5"11' and 6"2' with ideal wight being 175lbs or less. Most male models being their career when aged between 18 and 25 but can continue into their forties. For fashion shoots, male models typically need to be well toned without looking like a bodybuilder. However, body models are required in the male industry too. You could model eye-wear, shoes, or other products without having to have an all-over look.

Be Healthy And Look Good

Whatever route you take, and whatever type of modeling career you want to pursue, you need to look healthy and in good shape. This may mean going to the gym, getting fit and staying in good shape, but it will help guarantee the better roles and the better shoots. Most agencies and clients prefer tanned men, but again it's important not to get carried away. A natural appearance is equally as important as looking strong, fit, and bronzed.

The Big City

You will find it easier to move closer to the action. Modeling agencies are primarily located in cities, and the bigger the city, the greater the opportunity for work. If you are unable or unwilling to move then you will have to be prepared to travel a lot to get to interviews and shoots.

Your First Portfolio

A portfolio is a must-have even for the most inexperienced model. When looking for an agent, the shots don't have to be too professional, but they do need to be individual shots of you. It's also good ti get several head shots and several full body shots. While your first portfolio shots don't have to be professional standard, they do need to be a good standard -- clear images of you posing for the camera.

Finding An Agent

Armed with a portfolio, it's time to start looking for an agency to represent you and find shoots for you. Many modeling agencies hold open calls and these allow any potential model to attend and be judged on their credentials. Scouts also travel the country looking for potential models, although you must be wary of scams that seek to do nothing but take your money.

Your Best Attributes

Flexibility and persistence will be key to your success. Don't expect to win your first shoot or be represented by the first agency you approach. If this does happen then sincere congratulations, but it is rare. Different agencies have different requirements and this means that agencies may turn down models that are seemingly ideal for a modeling role. The male modeling world can provide a lucrative and enjoyable career but it is also challenging and requires hard work and dedication to succeed.<bio>Sarah Ferguson is the founder of SFViper.com America's next top model website. These are: 1:18, 1:24, 1:48, and 1:43. The models that are created today are based off of real existing cars. They include much more detail from these cars so that they match the description as much to the T as possible. They do try to make some of the things function. While the steering wheel and the wheels might not work, you can normally open the doors and the trunk, as well as the hood on the 1:32, 1:48, and 1:43 scale cars. This is better than the first die cast models that didn't have any real life action whatsoever. The reason for adding this was to beat the competition brought on by different parts of the world who were adding more and more detail to make these model cars almost life-like, just miniature. Before long, they added more things such as working suspensions, headlights, and other features as well.

Who Makes the Models?

The United States and The United Kingdom were the first two countries to market the die cast models right after Matchbox was created. It was slow at first. Models were offered for order in catalogues, but as the popularity increased they began to cater to the wishes of their clientele. What were once basic models with no special features changed in the 1970's when buyers wanted the cars to depict the cars of their dreams. In the 1980's there was licensing to the die cast models. This meant that the different companies that produced die cast models would sign agreements that license them to make replicas of cars that particular car companies manufacture. The companies can even have their logos imprinted on the car and they also enter into the agreements. Some of these licensing agreements are for companies to produce models that the car companies no longer produce. Examples of the premium models being described here are produced by firms such as: Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, and Fairfield Mint. Other examples of some of the lower end die cast model producers include companies such as: Maisto, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Corgi.

These companies have been bringing fun to people for almost fifty years. They have allowed people to use their creative minds to paint cars in the colors that they see fit. They have let the mind wander as to what sort of car every boy and girl wishes to have. Men have been included in this as well, as real life sets in, and bills have to be paid. What more could a man ask for in a toy that has become so popular after all?<bio>Come check out our entire stock of model cars and diecast cars today.</bio>

Nothing gets accomplshed by itself. Even to raise a tent takes planning. The tent. The pegs. The hammer and tools. And a plan.

Yet many people do not understand what you might consider to be clear to your two year old. "Tell the truth" and "Don't take what is not yours". Look at a simple hamster. A hamster will intuitively know several things that are basic to success in life.

First not to be interested in life and inquisitive. Second not to bite the hand that feeds it. Thirdly if you give a hamster some food, say for example some sunflower seeds it will promptly hide these items in other words to save the seeds and not swallow them right away.

Many people you will meet in your travels may repeat simple phrases and slogans such as "Those that do not plan =96 plan to fail" or such truisms as "The job is not done until the tools (or paperwork) is either put away or finished.

Yet the amazing thing is that most of these same people do not comprehend the simple truths your child learnt in kindergarten or the hamster seems to know intuitively instinctively.

How can this be? Why is it that apparently intelligent or in many cases non intelligent people cannot grasp these simple and apparent truisms.

The answer comes down to two factors. Firstly the examples these people saw in life whether it was from their home and family environment or other important role models. Secondly in life and in many job or power structures a person is promoted not to the station that he or she is best at or most competent but rather to the stage at which his terrible incompetence stops that person in the organizational structure.

Think of it who is it that influenced you to good worthwhile habits in life. What is a family member, an uncle a neighbor? This person may have inadvertently set you on the good path. It is much better to learn from a good role model than have to overcome the mistakes that a poor role model will leave you to overcome. Or it may be a person from the outside. For example one man who grew up in a terrible home environment realized very clearly that in his life his role model of note was a math teacher who when discovering that a student was not at an exam physically left the school to bang on the girl's door to in effect drag her to school for the test. This person clearly stated that his life had been one big party and this taught that ""kid, life is serious" Interestingly enough this person later went on to a successful career in real estate and insisted that because of rigorous drillings of this math teacher that he was able to quickly calculate sums in his head to clinch real estate deals.

And guess who their role model in their new position. Guess what it is was their predecessor of boss who guess what was also unprepared ann. not trained. The cycle repeats itself endlessly, the person in many if not most cases stops at a level where his incompetence not competence is his hallmark.

It is amazing that if America is held up as the world standard or efficiency and effectiveness in comparison to many cultures and economies. Imagine what it is like elsewhere in the world. <bio>Shaun Z.
Owning a Harley-Davidson entitles you to a great pride. It is like owning a luxury car or owning a private jet. This is why, even if what you are buying is a used Harley, the excitement is still the same. But before closing the deal, here are the pros and cons of buying used Harley-Davidson:

Pros...

Used Harley Davidsons are cheaper.

Well, resale value of some Harley models can be as high as its original price. But, there are several models that can buy for less. There are several sites online where you can find cheap but high-quality Harley Davidson models.

Rare Harleys are Used Harleys

Over a hundred years of motorcycle production has produced hundreds of models, some of them are hard to find while most of them are out of the production line. If you are looking for a particular model of a particular year, you can search for used Harley-Davidson for sale.

Used Harley-Davidsons are well-maintained

Since owning a Harley-Davidson is like owning a luxury car, outmost care is being practiced by most of its owner. Thus, you rarely see an ill-maintained Harley-Davidson on the road. You also cannot see any ill-maintained Harley-Davidson on an auction site or selling site. This is another reason why some models have prices even if they are old.

Used Harley-Davidson are customized

If you prefer a unique Harley-Davidson, then a used one can come in handy. There are several used Harley-Davidsons that maintain their original look but most owners prefer to modify some parts according to their personality.

Cons...

Used Harley-Davidson are customized

This may be an advantage for some but it does not mean that it is not a disadvantage. Since, most owners would want to infuse a little of their personality to their Harley-Davidson, the next owner will inherit what has been changed on the motorcycle. Unless you want to buy used Harley-Davidson regardless of the modifications that have been made, you may have difficulty to give it some of your personal touch. And sometimes, you are paying for the accessories that you really don't need.

Some used Harley-Davidsons motorcycles are expensive

Cheap Harley-Davidson can be hard to find. Unlike used cars, some used Harley-Davidson motorcycles are expensive. In fact, rare models are more expensive than other newer models. But don't be discouraged; there are several models that are less expensive than others. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy. It may be used only in its entirety with all links included. Children adopt the eating habits of their role models. Parents and child care providers are the first role models that children have contact with.

Children are great observers. When children see what is going on in the kitchen, they can create a complete dialogue with their invisible friend on how to fry french fries or prepare a salad.

In several studies involving the eating patterns of children, researchers found that their eating habits, including preferences for certain foods was traced back to the patterns and preferences of their parents.

As children transition from bottles to bacon, they beging to develop eating habits that stay with them throughout their lives. Nutritious eating habits that are started at a very early age will follow them through adulthood.

Since it is documented that eating healthy can prevent serious illness, it is vital that role models start giving a carrot stick or an apple for a fun snack rather than a sugary snack. Children eat what they see adults consuming.

Parents do not realize the major influence that they have over what their children learn to eat. Following the eating habits of children, research confirmed that the rules about food are almost as genetic as the color of their eyes. This fact puts a lot of stress on caregivers.

But understanding the far reaching implications of this study will result in healthier kids and healthier caregivers.

Parents can relate to the fact that they associate both positive and negative memories with food. When children are involved in fun activities, they tend to be snacking on junk food. The food offered at the park is all about hotdogs, ice cream and sugary snacks.

The smell of Grandma's cookies baking in the oven might bring back feelings of love and security. While the smell of vegetables cooking might invoke a negative memory of having to finish their plate of vegetables before getting dessert.

Bribing a child to eat nutriously is a short term strategy that will generally backfire. "These contingency strategies are effective in the short run; they elicit the correct response, says Dr. Fisher, Ph.D, assistnant profession of Pediatrics at Baylor College of medicine. In a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Dr Fisher made a direct link to the eating patterns of children and their parents.

Dr. Fisher and her researchers made some startling discoveries surrounding the eating habits of children. The children of caregivers who ate lots of fruits and vegetables in turn had children who also ate the same types of foods. Alternatively, caregivers who only encouraged healthy eating but led an unhealthy eating lifestyle, had children who ate low amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Children will like and react to the power of influence. Because nitritious eating habits are as important for parents as it for the children, the commitment to eating healthier will be easy.

The moral of the study is that if you want your children to follow healthy eating habits, the general rule is you must show them - don't just instruct them.<bio>For more awesome child friendly suggestion go to http://www.kidapprovedmeals.com</bio>

There is a niche market out there for classic car models. These are older models no longer being built by the manufacturer, kept to the original factory statistics, and maintained to be at least in working order. While not suited for regular driving, a classic car has a value that transcends the utility of driving. These models are rare finds and while their financial value may fluctuate in the intervening years, these cars are still beloved by the people who own them because of the nostalgic air that they have, that unmistakable quality of a bygone era of car manufacture. With that in mind, what exactly defines a classic? A classic car is, simply put, a car that belongs to the highest levels of style and class, the type of car that inspires modern myths. Some examples of this type of car are the legendary pink Cadillac and the equally revered Chevy Impala. They are typically over 25 years old and are often compared to fine wine, in the sense that these cars can only get better with age. For the most part, these cars are no longer fit to be driven on a daily basis and the few that are require painstaking, near-constant maintenance to stay that way. Interestingly, if a formal definition is what you want, you're not likely to find a consistent one. Different groups have different definitions of what a classic model is, and even the car insurance industry has rules for defining what is or is not a classic automobile.

Much like the art world and their masterpieces, no single definition appears to cover and appease all groups with regards to these cars. Groups often argue as to the exact number of years it takes for a car to be considered a classic but most hold it at around 15-20 years from the original year of manufacture. Some groups have a stricter guideline than others in determining what belongs on the list as a classic car and what does not. Some models, like the aforementioned Cadillac and the Ford Model-T, are nearly universal among these lists but other makes and models, like the 1948 Pontiac Sedan or the Impala, are not as widespread in acceptance. There are groups that recognize a model of car that was made in limited quantities, therefore a collectible, to be among the list of classics. In reality, there is no clear-cut definition of what a classic vehicle is or is not, though there are some cars that make it into any list by any definition because to the sheer value and nostalgia that they inspire, or through the mythic status the cars have come to enjoy over the years.

In the end, one should use a classic car list that fits one's needs. There is currently little consensus as to how to exactly define a car but some elements, like insurance and popularity, should play a role in how a person defines the term andquot;classic car.andquot; However, all these groups agree that a classic, beyond the objective level, is a model of car that inspires memories of past decades and must have potent nostalgic presence. <bio>For more valuable information on Classic Car, please visit http://classifieds.itrustmotors.com//cgi-bin/classifieds.cgi?db=classic </bio>

Talking to people who work for you about their performance is one of the most difficult tasks in the workplace. But, there are three quick changes to the way they talk about other people's behavior/performance that will dramatically improve the odds of a successful outcome.

First, put the description of behavior you're talking about ahead of the reason why you're having the conversation. That keeps those emotional protective shields from going up and blocking real communication.

This is hard to do, because most of our parents, early bosses, and role models did it just the opposite way. That means that you will, almost naturally, do the less effective thing unless you make a conscious effort.

I suggest that you rehearse your opening. That will help you put the behavior ahead of the reason for chatting. You'll probably have to practice the change, too.

Describe behavior the Joe Friday way. Just the facts. Drain off the adjectives. Then follow the description of behavior with a brief description of why that behavior matters.

The behavior you describe must be something visible or audible. It must be something that could be witnessed and can be described.

Do not, ever, use the words andquot;attitudeandquot; or andquot;always.andquot; Limit your discussion to observable behavior. Be specific about what happened and when.

Finally, once you've had your say, shut up. Wait for your subordinate to talk.

There are a couple of things that can happen next. Your subordinate might agree that you've got things right. Your subordinate might dispute your description of what happened.

Either way, you can now come to agreement on behavior. Then you're on your way to a meaningful discussion of how behavior should be different in the future. And what the consequences are for good and bad behavior.

This is simple and gets great results. So why don't more of us do it more of the time?

The answer to that one is easy. Old habits are hard to break and just about everyone we emulate did it the other way. If you do the preparation and practice to get these three things right, your conversations with subordinates about behavior will be much more productive. <bio>Wally Bock is an author, speaker, consultant and coach who helps leaders improve the performance and morale of their teams.
The younger generation has been fascinated for many years with role playing games, or the well-known RPG's. This fascination has led some to believe that the games are unhealthy and dangerous but studies have proven that there is nothing in the slightest that can be construed as dangerous from these pieces of artistry and fiction writing. Role playing games combine all the strength of board games with the fantasy of video games making them highly popular because the game will change with every turn or role of the dice. Over the years the world has changed a bit and now the world is moving to the online role playing games versus the overt challenges that one faces with gathering a group for a live game.

The basis of role playing games, especially the online versions is the fact that the player takes on the identity of the character in the game. Through this sort of virtual out of body experience the player has the chance to work within the game and adjust the strategy more so then they would with the standard video games of the day. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the online role playing games which only adds to the draw for most of the players. Rather than having a set outcome each and every time the game is played like you would have with the video games, the online role playing games adapt to the players and the role they have taken on.

Many of the people in the gaming world have found the online role playing games to be far superior to anything the video game companies are able to turn out. This is enhanced by the fact that the game itself is far less complicated then the standard role playing game. Instead of having to use an expensive set of dice, the players use one of the many random number generating software programs. This acts just like dice as the computer selects random numbers based on the parameters set by the player. So if the player needs to role a one hundred sided die then the player would set the parameters to go from one to one hundred and set the role. This is just like the dice rolls that a person would use in the live versions of the game but much less expensive to handle.

Most of the work that needs to be done in the world of online role playing games is the creation of the back story for the game. Many times these are based on pure fiction coming from the minds of another former D and D player who has the talent to write the story and make it all the way through the end. >From there the gamers take over and create the worlds as played through the characters.

Most of the sites that offer online role playing games are set to accept as many players as will come and then they allow the players to create their own characters to make things even more interesting. More over the sites will allow for the user to start creating the game that they want for others to play. <bio>Read more Games related articles at: http://www.games-articles.com </bio>

Mercedes Benz continues to be one of the most exhilarating cars on the market that can offer you a multi-media experience. There are hundreds of different places you can find Mercedes Benz, and a wide variety of them as well. Whether you are looking for an older classic or a newer state of the art vehicle, you can find what you are looking for. So where do you look to find a Mercedes Benz?

The first part to finding a Mercedes Benz for yourself is determining what kind you would like. Are you looking for a used vehicle or a brand new 2007? If you are looking for a used car, you will probably have better luck looking online for the particular model you want. Car dealerships are best when looking for a newer model because it allows you to test drive the car right then and there.

You'll also want to consider smaller things when purchasing the car such as color, manual or automatic, and what type of engine it has. All these factors play a role in which dealership or online site is going to have the Mercedes Benz that you are looking for.

If you do not want to take the time to go to a car dealership, you may want to check out Mercedes Benz's website itself to compare prices and models. This can help you get an idea of exactly what model is best for you. It will also allow you to find a Mercedes Benz within your price budget.

When searching online some of the better places to look for your Mercedes Benz are at automotive.com, autobuyguide.com and CarSmart.com. Searching online is a quick way to find the model you are looking for and get quotes for your area. After doing this, you give the website your contact information and then several dealerships will contact you with your request.

This way you have options and can quickly identify which dealerships in your area have the car you are looking for.
Among the dozens of different groups that have sprouted over the years clamoring for various family-related issues, the American Family Foundation (AFA) has to be one of the most highly-visible and controversial of the lot. The groups has come a long way since being established as a wholly conservative, Christian non-profit organization in 1977 by Rev. Donald Wildmon. At that time, the group was known as the National Federation for Decency and it was based in Tupelo, Mississippi.

One of the areas where the AFA is visible is through the articles that it publishes regularly promoting traditional nuclear family values and the main tenets of Christianity. The group is known for its strong support for Christian missionaries and its intense hatred and opposition against abortion, homosexuality and pornography. They are also known for their role in promoting andquot;clean entertainmentandquot; and for preaching the values of thrift and railing against excessive debt.

As an activist group, the AFA is one of the best-organized in the country, especially when it comes to launching boycotts and letter writing campaigns that promote traditional values that they hold dear. Among the more prominent boycotts that the group has undertaken are those against fashion company Abercrombie andamp; Fitch (on the grounds that it uses andquot;softcore pornography in company catalogsandquot;), film distributor Movie Gallery (which it refers to as a andquot;distributor of pornographic videosandquot;), convenience store chain Kmart (for its role in the andquot;Sale of adult-rated music CDsandquot;) and athletic brand Nike (for andquot;promoting a back door move to legalize homosexual marriageandquot;).

Its track record of activism also includes major boycotts against popular TV shows, movies and businesses that it perceived to be promoting indecency. They have also set out on crusades against some well known and highly regarded consumer brands such as Crest, Volkswagen, Tide, Clorox, Pampers, MTV, Burger King, the Carl's Jr., Kraft Foods, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Old Navy, NutriSystem, and American Airlines.

There is no cause that is too small for the AFA. In fact, in 2004, the AFA launched an attack against the cartoon film Shark Tale on the grounds that the animated flick was brainwashing children into accepting gay rights. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://familyinformationsource.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://aboutoursociety.com/ and http://1stconsumerinfo.com/ </bio>

When you think of the word "model", in the context of a human being, the immediate image that comes to mind is probably Claudia Schiffer, or some of the other Sports Illustrated swimsuit models. Modeling is much more than a pretty face and a size 0 dress, and models are used for all kinds of jobs beyond fashion photography and clothing.

When companies hire models to represent products, what they're looking for is someone who's casual and natural while also being friendly, outgoing and attractive. This is doubly important at trade shows. Observing trade shows can tell you a lot about the right and wrong ways to use models for your business, because the model is "on the spot" for the entire show.

Trade show models, working in person, have to be outgoing, and be "people" people. They have to like interacting with people and they have to convince the person who's hesitantly approaching them with a primeval fear of rejection that they are approachable, that they are interested in what the trade show is about, and that they can competently answer any questions the trade show attendee has. To do this, it's important to dress appropriately for the trade show. If your trade show has people in suits, your model needs to be dressed in business attire. If your trade show has attendees in jeans and tee shirts, a model needs to dress in khakis and polos. Having a model dress in skimpy outfits at a show where that's not the expected attire will result in a "10 foot exclusion zone", where the attendees won't know how to interact with her, and will be afraid of rejection...and if the people aren't coming close to the model, the model isn't doing their client any good at all.

Ultimately, the purpose of a model at a trade show is to help a company promote a product. People looking at getting into modeling need to keep that in mind -- they have to do more than be just a pretty face, they have to engage customers and act as the first line of sales agents. <bio>Find a commercial/advertising photographer at http://www.mandarichphotography.com/ </bio>

These models are a great depiction of the human body and can educate professionals almost as well as a real human subject. The human body is quite complex and models are a great way of breaking it down into sections for students to study.

Anatomical models have been used in physician education for almost all modalities in medicine. If you are in the medical industry chances are you have study an anatomical model somewhere along the line in your education. There are countless varieties of anatomical models out there for health care professionals to study. Whether you are going into dermatology or going into a highly specialized field like neurology you can find a model that will bring your education to a higher level.

These tools are a great educator for physicians and can also be a great resource for them as well when they are treating patients. When you ask a physician what the most challenging thing for them is. They will often respond that it is explaining to their patients the disease or issue that they have. Anatomical models are an excellent tool for knocking down the communication barrier between the physician and patient. By allowing the patient to see a three dimensional model they can picture in their mind what it is the doctor is explaining to them.

Since doctors use these as a resource for patient education as well as educating themselves early in their career, you will often find these models in physician's offices as well as medical education facilities. A physician who operates his own practice might put a model in each exam room that he has so that he can reference the model should the patient need any clarification.

Below are a few examples of anatomical models that a doctor might use in his education, or his patients education.

Physicians who treat a number of illnesses that directly relate to brain function commonly use a diseased brain model. This type of model can help educate doctors on the physiological effects of person who suffers from Alzheimer's, or could help a doctor explain to a patient the after effects of a stroke, or an aneurysm.

Another common practice you will find anatomical models is in a chiropractor's office. Conditions and diseases in the spine are quite common and most people in their lifetime will experience some sort of back pain or trouble. The best way for a physician to explain to a patient about their condition is show them what is actually happening in their body without having to go through testing. If a patient has a herniated disc a chiropractor can use an anatomical model as a visual aid so that the patient can see what has happened to his spine and why he is experiencing pain.

Whether using anatomical models to educate young physicians entering the medical field or patients of the physicians already in the medical field, these models can prove to be an invaluable resource.<bio>Stephen is a writer for Universal Medical Inc.
Since the 2006 World Cup, Britain has been in the throes of a WAG obsession. During the tournament, the player's wives and girlfriends seemed to attract more attention than the England team. Wearing skimpy hotpants and oversized sunglasses, they provided some much-needed eye-candy for the male spectators. Many women seemed equally impressed with the WAGs, as they flaunted their designer shoes, fashions and handbags to the world's press. Although England's World Cup performance was disappointingly brief, it soon became clear that the WAG phenomenon was here to stay.

The most famous WAGs are Coleen Mcloughlin, Elen Rives, Alex Curran, Cheryl Cole, Jamelia, Danielle Lloyd and, of course, the mother of all WAGs, Victoria Beckham. While Victoria Beckham, Jamelia and Cheryl Cole had successful careers before meeting their famous partners, many WAGs have succeeded in using their glamorous lifestyle to achieve celebrity. Coleen Mcloughlin is a classic example of this; once a podgy Liverpudlian schoolgirl, she successfully used her fianc=E9s fame to launch a successful career as a TV presenter, model and journalist. She has now amassed her own fortune of around =A36million.

Of course, Coleen had no obligation to pursue these career options. Being a WAG is a lucrative and glamorous occupation in its own right. With many premiership footballers earning a massive salary, their partners are simply required to look beautiful. Because of this, many WAGs seem to spend most of their time shopping in designer stores, falling out of nightclubs or frolicking on exotic holidays. With a lifestyle like this, it's hardly surprising that many girls are desperate to bag a footballer.

Unlike the empowered generations of women before us, many women in their twenties now spend up to =A31,000 a month trying to achieve A WAG lifestyle. An article in The Independent revealed this shocking story by claiming, "the majority of young women aged between 21 and 25 aspire to being a "WAG" (footballer's wife or girlfriend) rather than a powerbroking executive." Obviously, the high price of this luxury lifestyle is completely unrealistic for most under-25s, which means that for many girls, their WAG aspirations are causing them to spiral into debt.

Even sadder than those willing to risk bankruptcy for a designer handbag are the girls who Kiss and Tell. When their night of passion with a footballer fails to turn them into Posh Spice, they sell their sordid secrets to the tabloids. The five escorts involved in Ronaldo's recent orgy provide a perfect example of this. The girls, from Mckenzies escort agency in Leeds, sold their stories to the News of the World and The Sunday Mirror. In these titles, one of the girls admitted: ""I thought having sex with three Manchester United stars would be like a dream come true. But I realise now that being a WAG is not all it looks cracked up to be."

Ultimately, while WAGs are certainly good to look at, they are negative role models for teenagers and young women. Our celebrity-obsessed society needs positive role models who can inspire girls to stop trying to snare a footballer and embark on their own careers. <bio>Krissy Haze - Web: http://www.mckenziesescorts.co.uk Biography: Krissy used to be a high class escort in Leeds, before becoming a freelance writer. </bio>

Building bad ship models don't really have to happen. Most of the time, it is because we get in a hurry and are ready to get it done. We have to learn to slow down if we want to know how to build a model of Viking ships. All through history we have been fascinated by the ship in a bottle. I have to admit, even as an aging baby boomer, I am still amazed at the patience and skills that have been demonstrated by the master ship model builder. You can't help but ask "how did they get that ship into that little bottle?"

Ship models come in all sizes from the WWII 1/96 ship models, 1/87 scale ship models to even manned ship models. The more popular models are made from one but they are available in metal and plastic. Each one takes time and patience to build. For some reason, the wooden ship models are very popular. I guess it has to do with the large flowing sails. Our imagination takes out to sea where we catch the wind and sail around the world. The Anita ship wooden model has a special historical meaning to us when Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

Building model ships has been around a long time. It isn't something that only been happening in the last century but dates back to ancient Egypt. In fact, several of their models that have survived through the ages. The ancient Egyptians even used their ships to carry their dead out to sea. It has been estimated that many of these ships are nearly 5,000 years old.

When we think about ship modeling, it is the Europeans that come to mind not the Egyptians. The Europeans models date back to the 12th century. Many of their models have been found in churches. The domination of the British navy during this period led to wide spread interest in model ships especially military style.

The development of tinplate and vast improvement in wood working tools has led to an increase interest in the art of ship building. Even the internet has the increased the awareness of model ship building. The model ship evangelist promotes their hobby quite well and allows the "common folks" to learn more about this interesting hobby.

How much could one spend on a model ship? Well, the old question comes up, "how much do you have?" The kits are an excellent way to get started. They usually come with just about everything you need. That good but I want to build a wooden model ship.

Wooden model ships can be found in kits but many people want to literally make their own. Some of the most beautiful wooden ship models have been made from a person tenderly and lovingly carving the wood. They agonize over each cut. The goal is to make it perfect. Naturally, if you trying to buy one of these hand carved and cut boat, then you better be prepared to spend some serious money.
