Most anglers consider trout as one of their favorite "fishing friends" while fishing. This artful species is found everywhere. Different varieties of trout choose different types of places as their native habitat.

The territory from Labrador westward to the Saskatchewan is known as the native habitat of brook trout. Rainbow trout are conspicuous in the Pacific slope from Alaska to California.

Brown trout are abundantly seen in the waters of every American state except Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Arkansas and Florida. Sometimes it has been spotted in the waters of some of these states, but there is no official verification of these citings, according to conservation officials. Brown trout also abound in some parts of Canada.

You need to consider some factors in order to successfully catch trout fish.

1. Do not grease the leader for it won't sink deep enough to give trouble, when pulling the lure and line from the water. However, if you allow it to float, the shadow cast by it, on the bottom of the stream, may scare away the trout.

2. Trouts can usually be secured through the use of dry fly. You should fish in both the current as well as in the pools for trout. Sometimes, it will be difficult for the angler to keep the fly from dragging or sinking because of the force of the current. The angler will have to depend on his dexterity for this.

3. It is not wise to fish for trout directly upstream as the leader, line, and flies will float directly over the fish. You should make the cast from one side of the stream. This will ensure that only the fly will float over the fish.

4. Remember that the first cast should be the best cast. Usually the first lure presented, is struck by a feeding trout if it floats over his private territory. You should never forget to fish in the lower end of the pool first, even if the trout are coming up in the upper or middle end.

5. On account of being moody or selective, trout may try the patience of any angler. Therefore, a fly or if necessary, a spent-wing fly or a fan wing, may do the trick without much hassle.

Indeed, you can enjoy a lot and have fun while fishing for trout. Following the tips above will definitely ensure a happy catch. <bio>Areeb Khatib is involved in an online fishing project to help make better fishermen. Maine trout fishermen and women are enthusiast about the pursuit of the trout. Some consider trout fishing to be the purest from fishing. The finesse that is required to entice a trout into striking a fly or lure is what appeals to the soul. But don't worry, trout have endeared the imagination of the trout fishermen and women for years on end. Pure cold water is key to survival of the trout, but Rainbow trout are comfortable in slightly warmer waters.

Rainbow trout are known for their tasty pink flesh and beauty and gameness. The Rainbow trout is a favorite among most fishermen and women anglers. The Rainbow trout appeals to the properly presented flies, baits and lures. It feeds on small worms, minnows, insects, and crustaceans. The sport and dinning are two fun things for Rainbow trout anglers.

Originally the rainbow trout was found in the Rockies and west to the pacific ocean and has been distributed far and wide across the United States. Rainbow trout do better in the north and northeast, but in isolated areas in the south the Rainbow trout are found as well. In waters that allow such migration, the rainbow trout will remain in streams until it reaches 6 to 9 in length and then travel to lakes or oceans where it bulks up and then return to the streams or rivers to spawn. Another trout native to the United States is the Brook trout. Originally found throughout areas with cold clean water, they like the water that does not exceed 68 degrees. As we humans invade the cool shady forest areas it causes the water to warm up and the Brook trout are diminishing in their population. Its primary food source is small crustaceans, mollusks, insects, and other small fish.

Of all trout, Brook trout are the easiest to catch. The brook trout do not like the warmer water and have taken over some of the fisheries formerly inhabited by the brookies. Brown trout are much more wary than other trout, which helps ensure their longevity in waters where other trout are fished out.

The best spots to look for when fishing for Brown trout are quiet water with logs, under cuts in the banks, over hanging trees and brush, rock shelves. These are Brown trout's favorite hiding places. Brown trout get to be large in size and become more inclined to feed at night under the protection of darkness.

The food that the Brown trout likes are crustaceans, worms, insect and minnows. Brook trout are one of very few species of trout that are native to Eastern America, and thanks to the high quality of water in Maine's lakes and streams, maintain a steady population. With their distinctive orange colouring, eastern brook trout are without doubt one of the most beautiful freshwater fish in existence, and it comes as no surprise that they are considered so highly by enthusiast and professional anglers alike.

The development of industry and surface runoff from agriculture has led to a degradation of water quality in lakes, rivers and streams all across America, which has unfortunately led to the decline in population of many species of fish. Additionally, the introduction of non-native fish into water systems has also caused problems, particularly for smaller, more vulnerable species. Fortunately, Maine continues to support a healthy population of eastern brook trout, which is testament to the quality of water in the state's many lakes, rivers and streams.

Eastern brook trout are distributed in lakes and rivers across Maine, so if you are looking to catch this particular species then you should have few problems finding a prime location. Arguably one of the best regions for catching eastern brook trout is the Moosehead Lake Region and its surrounding area, which is home to over 600 lakes and ponds as well as over 30 miles of rivers and streams. As well as clean waters and superb fish, you will also be treated to some of the most breathtaking scenery in Maine. Mount Kineo stands high above Moosehead Lake, and is surrounded by equally stunning mountains and unspoilt landscape.

The eastern brook trout fishery is, as the name suggests, one of the prime spots in the region to catch big, healthy fish. The fishery itself is well known among keen anglers, and attracts thousands of visitors from far and wide each year.

Due to their relative abundance in the state of Maine, catching eastern brook trout are not particularly difficult, and many anglers choose to use bait or artificial lures to land their trout. Alternatively, fly-fishing is also a very popular method, with many lakes dedicated to this type of fishing. Combine this with their stunning beauty and you have one of the most sought after game fish, which alone are responsible for attracting thousands of keen anglers to the state of Maine every year. <bio>Ronald Moody has been an avid fisherman for over 40 years.
There is something about fishing for trout that reminds me of my favorite vacations. Nothing is quite as relaxing and mentally stimulating at the same time. I'll never forget my first image of what fly fishing for trout is really like. The movie "A River Runs Through It" takes place in Montana. It follows the lives of two brothers who fly fish their local streams in Montana with their father. It was not long after my father took me to see that movie that we took our first trip out west. Being from Florida, I loved being on the open water and fishing for Red Fish or Snapper with a spin casting rod and reel. Having done this most of my life, I was intimidated by the images I had seen on the big screen. I was not sure I could learn a new art of fishing that looked so fluid.

Montana is a wonderful state that is about as large as California and has 1/30th of the population. I had never seen such wide open spaces. Wintertime skiing in Montana had been my only experience out there, and it was a completely different experience. We stayed in Big Sky and traveled all around that area in search of the best spots. Luckily we had a native Montanan with us who had fished the state since childhood. He knew every hot spot like the back of his hand. All I had to do was learn the new art of fly fishing.

We set out to a prairie that had a river on it that meandered like something you've seen on a postcard. This was after the three mile hike in from the road that started with a sign reading "Beware of grizzly bears". To start out, I had loaded my line with a Mepps lure so that I did not have worry about bait while I practiced. To cast you let out a couple of feet of slack and also hold a couple of feet of line in your free hand. Wave the rod forward and back with mainly just your wrist, you get the feel for the weight of the rod and the line. While doing this you just search the opposite bank for some still water. Trout love to wait in the still water for food to pass by with the current. Then you simply cast just upstream from the still inlet that you spotted releasing the extra line that is in your free hand to extend the cast. By letting the current do the work you can dangle the lure near the hole to entice the trout. It takes less time than you think to master fishing with a fly rod and you quickly learn that finding the right spot is the difficult part that comes with years of practice.

Fishing with a fly hook is not much different, but floats on the water. It can get frustrating and first and if you find your self with an empty creel, just ask a local where Loveland Pass is. This is a small lake that is stocked with trout. It's got a great view of the mountains and it is just off of the highway. It's a local secret and you can catch as many fish as you desire. <bio>Find out more great information about trout and fishing at http://www.abouttrout.info ! </bio>

These are my recollections of my first introduction to fly fishing in Hampshire on the River Test but let me first explain..........

I caught my first brown trout in a stream at the back of our house known as Crimple Beck in Burn Bridge Nr Harrogate in North Yorkshire with a red worm at the age of four on a one piece solid fibreglass rod that had belonged to my father.

When I was seven I caught my first brown trout whilst fly fishing on the River Coquet at Felton in Northumberland where my grandparents lived and where I spent all my school holidays. I fly fished almost every day in the easter and summer school holidays on this river but also on the River Nidd in North Yorkshire.

As a teenager my grandparents sent me Trout and Salmon magazine each month which I read from the front to back cover paying particular attention to any articles about chalk stream fly fishing.

It was a dream and an ambition of mine to, one day, go fly fishing for brown trout on a chalk stream and at the age of forty nine that dream came true thanks to the generosity of my wife Anne and sons John and Adam.

Through Orvis, who are a fishing equipment retailer, they arranged for me to have a day's fly fishing in Hampshire on the world renowned River Test on the Timsbury 5 stretch. As if the gift could not get any better-the date they had selected was during the Mayfly season!

We arrived at the fly fishing beat, to which we had exclusive use, parking the car near the fishing lodge which was equipped with table, chairs, cooker, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, wine, mineral water, cheese and fruit-luxury fly fishing in Hampshire! The stretch was about a third of a mile of the main River Test with about four hundred yards of a tributary which almost ran parallel to the main river. The bankside had been mown-yes mown. The water was crystal clear despite it having rained with this stretch being mainly slow flowing. The sky was overcast with small hatches of Mayfly and a few brown trout rising throughout the day. The weeds which I understand they cut every month were clearly visible and it was thrilling to watch some specimen brown trout swimming in this beautiful stretch.

I also spent some time fly fishing on the faster flowing tributary and caught two brown trout which, having put up a superb fight, I returned to the water. My wife and son John also did some fly fishing using my tackle and Anne caught a grayling.

I mainly fished using a dry fly but occassionaly used nymphs.

In the early evening the clouds broke and the sun appeared resulting in further hatches of Mayfly on this exquisite stretch of the River Test which provided idealic fly fishing in Hampshire.

The day was most memorable for us all- I have never experienced fly fishing like it!

Reluctantly we had to leave but we will be back fly fishing once again in Hampshire-perhaps next time we will try the River Itchen. <bio>Alan Hope runs a lifestyle management and concierge service business for both UK and Overseas clients. You will find deep mountain lakes surrounded by national forests and clear-running rivers. The area offers outstanding fly fishing (if you are a purest), as well as excellent river bank fishing with a spinning rod (I suggest using artificial salmon eggs or spinners if you are not a fly fisherman). Featured bodies of water in McCurtain County include Beaver's Bend, the Mountain Fork River, and the Glover River.

McCurtain County is the perfect fishing destination for weekend getaways.
Yellowstone National Park conveys visions of big trout guzzling stoneflies and mayflies, pristine waters and unlimited vistas. As much as I like fishing in Yellowstone, it is difficult to focus simply on fishing with all beautiful landscapes and wildlife at your fingertips.

However, the Yellowstone River is a must for any full-fledged fly fisherman. It's a vast, swift river that has numerous Yellowstone cutthroats. These water loving creatures are not that difficult to catch, but because of the size and the extent of this body of water and the nature of the migration of fish, they are not at all times feeding in the exact spots. You can do well at a certain spot one day and entirely strike out on another even though you are in the same spot.

A Yellowstone cutthroat is a striking fish with its spot, not to mention its amber and orange slashes positioned at the gill plates. You may catch 16 "to 18" in the park and perhaps a bigger one.

Unfortunately, they are helpless against illegal stocking of trout at Lake Yellowstone. The trout get much bigger and prey upon the cutthroats. If you catch a trout, you are asked to keep it or puncture its air bladder and just allow it to sink into the lake.

No boats are allowed in Yellowstone River and any fishing is wade fishing. You can use a float tube or a boat on Yellowstone Lake.

The river Lamar is a good place, but the storms of may blow off fishing for a couple days. There are a few good tributaries that stream into the Lamar that are a good bet. Slough Creek and Soda Butte are both good bets. Though always pay attention to bears. Do not get close to a bear, or between a sow and her young. You should give every wildlife a wide berth. Most creatures have a comfort zone and provided you do not pass beyond said zone, then they will not, in any way, threaten you.

The Madison River is the favorite of several fly fishermen. Just within the west entrance is a series of well-known pools, which often produce good fish. Perhaps more brown trout can be caught, but rainbows are on the swim as well. In autumn, some large trout jet up the river coming from Hebgen Lake and you may even be surprised by a few real trophies.

The Firehole River offers a good climate for fishing, but because of hot springs that flows through the river, the temperature is too hot in summer.

Some small streams like Gibbon are ok, but in humid weather, some of these may be closed to prevent stressing the fish.

Part of the Gallatin is inside the park and offers very good fishing at some point in time. Water is not that deep, which may result to few catches because it is hard to obtain fish from shallow waters, but the reward is certainly worth the effort.

There are many lakes and streams that provide good fishing, but you'll have to check with the local fly shop or park service to update any information.

Yellowstone country is beautiful and is a fly fisherman, as well as a photographer's dream.
Developed mainly for salmon and trout, fly fishing is a special angling method whose origins are lost in the mist of time. Initially, real flies and worms were used as baits, bur as time passed and plastic and rubber were invented, artificial flies replaced the real ones. The rods were made from wood at first, but are now made from polycarbonate and glass fiber. The artificial fly is very light, however the line is heavy, helping the bait sink.

Places to go fly-fishing Many stories have been told about places where trout jump out of water, or where you can catch salmon with your bare hands. I can't promise you that, but I am going to tell you about two of my favourite fly-fishing locations, where you can find big trout and salmon, and where you can have a relaxing time as well.

La Rioja, Spain Spain. What would be the first image that comes into your mind when thinking of Spain? Sunny beaches perhaps, wine and friendly people maybe, but not in a million years would you think about fly-fishing. Well, think again, because in La Rioja, a small town in northern Spain, is the perfect spot for trout fishing. The two wild rivers that surround La Rioja, (Iregua and Najerilla) are perfect for fly-fishing. Big trout, enjoying life in the fertile water, steep valleys and tall mountains, is exactly what you will find in La Rioja. The most popular bait used by the locals fishing on the slower streams, is the Damsel Fly, while on the faster section of the river, the caddis rules. Artificial baits are used as well. But there is more to this place than the scenery. The people are the element that gives the real value to the spot. Besides, they are really experienced fishermen, so you could learn a thing or two from them. Therefore, if you should decide to go fly-fishing to Spain, this is exactly where you should book a ticket.

The Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec This wonderful place is located at about 350km eastwards from the mainland of Canada. Because of the surrounding mountains, that rise up to 1200m, and the gulf called "Baie des Chaleurs" ( "The Gulf of Heat"), the scenery here is breath-taking. The rivers here are said to have the clearest water in the world. Just check this with your own eyes, and you will have no doubt. Fishing in Gaspe will definitely be an experience you will never forget. For instance, the water is so clear, that you can see the salmon as it nears your fly, and the majestic dance it performs around it. This is a great place for out-door camping as well.

Good fishing These are just two of the many wonderful places a passionate fisherman could go. However, just as the place is important, so is company. So, if you don't want to fish alone, choose your company well, since bad company can ruin everything. Trust me, I know! <bio>Nick Carter is editor of http://www.fly-fishing-insider.com which is full of fly fishing tips, secrets and resources. </bio>

Both by tradition and practical experience, fly fishing for bass in streams is small-mouth fishing. This bass likes clear, cool water without too much weed growth in it and with sand or gravel bottom. Those conditions are more common in streams than in lakes, at least in lakes in the southern or central section of the Middle West. As we go farther north, especially in Canada, these small-mouth conditions become pretty usual in lakes. As we go south, they become more rare in any except mountain rivers. These conditions delineate almost exactly the places where small-mouth thrive.

River small-mouth are splendid fly rod fish. They take flies with a zest that is almost unequaled. They take almost any kind of a fly, too=97bass bugs, wet flies, exact imitations of natural insects, and flies that do not resemble anything in nature. These latter highly colored fancy type flies, however, according to recent studies of light refraction, may actually be good imitations of the way a wounded small minnow or aquatic insect floating on top of the water looks to a fish. Anyhow, river small-mouth take them all=97and how they fight!

River bass live in fairly shallow water and, therefore, take a surface fly especially well. Because fish in shallow water are more easily frightened, river bass are less frequently scared by flies than by the larger and heavier bait casting lures. I have often seen a river bass turn to a fly that lit behind him and take it avidly, while a plug, bait cast that near the fish, made him scurry for the nearest hiding place. That doesn't mean bait casting isn't useful in fishing for river small-mouth, but it does restrict its use.

The mood in which to approach stream fishing for bass is much like that needed for trout fishing. You are again stalking your fish. If you keep this in mind, it will bring many bass to your creel or stringer.

Most small-mouth rivers can be waded, which is ideal for fly fishing; there is even more need to wade properly, because most bass rivers are bigger than the average trout stream.

As with trout, by no means all of a bass stream holds bass. The fish have their feeding positions, and their resting or hiding places, just as trout do. In general, bass pick the same kind of water to feed and rest in as do trout, though small-mouth usually select spots nearer to heavier and faster current.

Whether the bass will be in the riffles or in the pools depends chiefly on water temperature, time of day, stage of water (whether high, normal or low), hatches on the water, and on weather and barometric conditions. So lunar feeding periods also have an effect, but, in my experience, are not as great a factor in stream conditions as in lakes. Where the bass will be and what they will be doing is entirely governed by the combined effect of these natural conditions. <bio>Tommy Thompson is a fishing researcher and enthusiast who is committed to providing the best Fly fishing information possible.
Landlocked arctic charr, also known as blueback trout, silver trout, sunapee trout and white trout, are listed as one of two freshwater species of special concern by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. These beautiful fish are seldom seen very far south in the warmer waters and as a result Maine and Alaska are the only regions in the US to have a native population of arctic charr.

Landlocked arctic charr prefer a colder climate with a plentiful supply of oxygen, so it pays dividends to do a little research before heading out on your fishing trip. There are only around 20 lakes in Maine that contain landlocked arctic charr, and half of these have been artificially stocked to promote both the breeding of the species and to provide an extra special catch for the more determined anglers. During the spring and fall months, you can typically find landlocked arctic charr throughout the lake, though during the warmer summer months, the fish are restricted to the coldest, deepest parts of the lake.

Popular spots for catching landlocked arctic charr in Maine include Moosehead Lake, the west branch of the Penobscot River and Rainbow Lake. Don't be surprised if you are expected to do a little trekking a number of the lakes in Maine still home to arctic charr are inaccessible by road.

Your best method of catching landlocked arctic charr will depend on what time of year you are fishing. During the cooler spring and fall months, when the charr are found throughout the lake, fly-fishing and trolling the surface with lures can bring fantastic rewards. When the fish move deeper during the warmer summer months, much more success can be found using deeper lures or jigs.

Following the near extinction of landlocked arctic charr in the region, it comes as little surprise that so few lakes and rivers still contain the species. However, through careful planning and protection by authorities, the population of landlocked arctic charr is now stable, allowing hundreds of anglers from across the country the rare chance to land these beautiful fish. <bio>Ronald Moody has been an avid fisherman for over 40 years.
All across the United States there are many beautiful, exciting places that are excellent or fly fishing. The following article just highlights a few of them.

Sitka, Alaska is a major stopover for salmon heading to British Columbia, Washington, and other Alaskan waters. Fly fishermen at Sitka, have a higher fishing catch rate than any other marine area in Southeast Alaska. June is the best month for fishing this area.

The Colorado River at Lees Ferry, Arizona, is one of the best fly fishing spots for rainbow trout. The fish are comfortable all year round in a 15-mile stretch of cold water that flows from the depths of Lake Powell between Glen Canyon Dam and the upper end of the Grand Canyon. Fly fishermen can also book a guide and go flats fishing for 25 pound carp.

Saltwater fly fishing is at its best at Montauk Point, New York. Montauk Point is the easternmost point of Long Island and is best known for striper fishing. Fly fishermen have miles of beautiful shoreline in which they can cast their fly.

Gunpowder Falls, Maryland, is an excellent place to catch cold water trout. A deal was struck by the Maryland state authorities and Trout Unlimited to start cold water releases from Pretty Boy Dam. This has resulted in a combination of wild and stocked brown, brook, and rainbow trout. Most of the fly fishing is in Gunpowder Falls State Park.

Fishing Creek, Pennsylvania, is one of the states top wild trout streams. It generally stays cool throughout the summer. There is a five-mile stretch called the Narrows, near Lamar, that is a very popular area for fly fishing.

Driftless Area, Wisconsin, has many excellent fly fishing streams loaded with brown trout. There is excellent access to all of southwestern Wisconsin's eight counties. There are 68 streams in Vernon County alone, including Kickapoo River and Timber Coulee Creek. Most fly fishermen in this area use mayfly and caddis imitations.

Laguna Madre, Texas, is full of rivers and lakes that are excellent fly fishing locations. Texas also has its southern coast, which is among the world's greatest saltwater fly fishing areas. The saltwater flats of Laguna Madre, next to Padre Island, are full of all different kinds of fish that make for a great fly fishing experience.

Henry's Fork, Idaho, is a great destination for rainbow trout. If you are fishing the Island Park area, it is better to fish in runoff conditions.

Lake C. W. McConaughy, Nebraska, is the largest lake in the state and also has some of the best fly fishing. Another excellent fly fishing spot in Nebraska is the Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area, which is a series of twenty sandpit lakes that have been carved into the Platte River basin. Red Willow reservoir is also a favorite of fly fishermen in this area of the country.

Kauai, Hawaii, is a great spot for fly fishing largemouth, smallmouth, and peacock bass. This Garden Isle also has excellent saltwater fly fishing.

Whether you like fresh or salt water fly fishing, there are thousands of places to fish across the country that offer the fly fisherman endless opportunities and experiences. <bio>Travis Clemens can show you how to get'em on the hook.
Choosing the correct fishing tackle rod depends on the type of fishing you intend doing, and is the first step in enjoying fly fishing. Fly fishing rods come in many different lengths and line weights and are matched to the environment you will be fishing in.

Here are a few questions you'll need to ask yourself when choosing fly fishing rods.

1. Will I be spending most of my time fishing for fresh water fish such as trout and bass, or will I be fishing saltwater species like salmon, steelhead or larger ocean fish.

2. Do I intend fishing small streams, Rivers, Lakes or open ocean water? As a general rule, use shorter rods for smaller rivers and streams, longer rods for bigger rivers, lakes and saltwater use. The weight of the rod also depends on the location being fished.

Small trout fly rods can start with a line weight rod of 3 up to 6, for larger rivers and lake fishing, anglers generally use trout fishing rod weight 6 to 9, and for open water and sea fishing go for 9 weight and upwards.

3. What type of rod action do you prefer? The action of the rod will determine the line speed and the size of the line loop during casting, the faster the action the tighter the loop will be. As a guide beginners are best to use a slow to medium action rod.

More on Fly Fishing Rod Action.

The action or bend of is a key factor. How far does the rod bend when using consistent effort?

Remember, the action of a fly rod is a measure of how flexible the rod is.

Fast Action Fly Rods

The lack of bend and the stiffness of fly fishing rods allow the angler to generate plenty of line speed in the cast. This allows very accurate distance casting than a slower action fly rod. A fast action fly trout rod is also good for using in windy conditions due to the line speed.

Fast action rods are more suited to experienced anglers who have excellent timing and casting ability, the size of the loop will cause all sorts of problems to the inexperienced, especially if weighted flies are being used. Many novice anglers have bought fast action rods only to have unhappy results when using them due to lack of experience.

Medium Action Fly Rods

Medium Action fly rods are the most popular of the fly rod. Medium action fly rods offer good flexibility and are the most versatile of fly rods. Medium action rods are great all rounder, and can be used in smaller streams, rivers and lakes. These rods are certainly capable of a long cast and require less perfection in motion and timing. Ideal all rounder.

Slow Action Fly Fishing Rods

Slow action fly rods; don't generate high line speeds due to their flexibility. These rods are designed to make shorter accurate and delicate casts. Ideal for fishing small rivers and creeks. Slow action fly fishing rods are an excellent fly rod for beginners. Slow line speed and more flexibility gives a beginner more control over the fly line, allowing better accuracy in casting.

To summarize, slower action rods are for beginners to fly fishing, although experienced anglers also enjoy using them with very light gear for those hard to catch bass or trout. Medium action fly rods are the most versatile, and are adaptable enough to fish in most conditions. These rods ore for those who are into the fishing and being `out there' experience rather than wanting total mastery of the art that is usually required with faster action fly fishing rods. <bio>Noel Davidson is the webmaster at http://www.flyfishingmad.com Noel spends as much fly fishing time in the lakes rivers and steams in New Zealand as possible. </bio>

Are you the kind who likes to sit for hours on the banks of a babbling brook, in the midst of still-standing time, waiting? Waiting for that prized trout that will eventually be ensnared by your eager little fish hook. If so, we would like to welcome you to Northern Ontario where you can be sure you will get to take that prized trophy home and brag about it for the next twelve years. Due to the sheer abundance of freshwater rivers, lakes, and streams teeming with fish of every possible type, Northern Ontario is your answer to an amazing fishing adventure.

Between the three rich regions of Northwestern, Northeastern, and North Central that are absolutely teeming with fish, Northern Ontario offers extensive waterways, channels, rivers, and so on. You could take a weekend fishing adventure drive in or fly-in to the lakes and waterways of northwestern Ontario. The region specializes in trophy muske, but walleye, lake trout, northern pike, bass, steelhead, and salmon are also found in abundance. Quenteco Wilderness and the Albani river distribution within the park is a good option for fishing in a laid back style in the backwaters amidst complete wilderness. For river fishing enthusiasts, meandering rivulets between the Marathon and Thunder Bay are ideal for fishing for trout and salmon. The Wabigoon Eagle Lake and Nipgon River area is frequented by flying fishing enthusiasts and experts as the areas are rich in trophy walleys, muskes, bas, and pike. The Samuel de Champlain Park offers a wide variety of fishing activity in its Long Lake where a variety of trout, bass, pike and herring hang out.

When talking of fishing adventures in Northern Ontario, talk of the magnificent Algonquin Provincial Park can't be far behind. This park is crisscrossed with water channels and you can enjoy fishing while taking noiseless canoe rides through them. Surrounded by wilderness, and completely isolated and cut off from the rest of the world, this is a haven for flying fishing aficionados, while angling experts can head to Killarney in Georgian Bay where they can practice their skills on pike, muskie, and bass. Gone are those days when fishing enthusiasts would wade through swamps and undertake many a perilous journey to reach their favorite river hidden deep in the forest. Now you can still go along those fishing trails and have your little adventure, but Northern Ontario has become highly accessible through road and air and can make your fantasy fishing adventure a realized reality. <bio>World class Ontario fishing adventures - Fish the clean, crystal lakes in Greenstone, Ontario, Canada. http://www.greenstone.ca/ </bio>

If you enjoy fishing here is some great information on popular fish, both fresh water as well as saltwater.

Freshwater:

1. Trout: This is a very delicious fish. Because trout are considered a predator in their environment is important to leave plenty of them behind. They come in several different varieties including: Brown, Rainbow, Brook and Lake Trout.

2. Bass: This is probably one of the most popular fish in America. While belonging to the Sunfish family come in several different varieties including largemouth, white, and smallmouth.

3. Pike: Pike are also known as northern and have very sharp teeth and a surly attitude. They prefer the weedy shallows and wait to ambush their food. They are never in a hurry to strike. 4. Walleye: Walleye is one the best tasting fish of all. They often can be found in schools located near drop-off. Fishing for walleye is challenging but lots of fun.

5. Panfish: Panfish are especially fun and often quite easy to catch. They taste good at a very easy to catch. Different varieties of Panfish include: Bluegill, white crappie, black crappie, and Sunfish.

Saltwater:

1. Bluefish: These fish can be very strong fighters but the same time are not that hard to catch. If you are looking for a fight this can be an exciting finish. They tasted too when eaten fresh.

2. Striped bass: This can be a difficult fish to catch. They are finicky about what they strike on and when. When fishing for striped bass you might try using bait fish such as bunker or herring. Spoons and plugs also well work well on a fly rod.

3. Cod: this is probably one of the most important commercial fish. Cod can be caught in cold months. These fish often weigh more than 30 pounds and so you will need some heavy line.

4. Flounder: Flounder is another Sunfish to catch that taste very good. If you have a small boat and a fish finding unit you will have a great time.

5. Redfish: Redfish are also called channel bass or red drum. You can catch redfish from New Jersey all the way the Houston. These fish enjoy shallow water and fight hard.

If you enjoy fishing all of the above fish provide great opportunities for a day of fun and good food. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for Fishing Niche which is an excellent place to find fishing links, resources and articles.
Fly Fishing is a very old method of fishing that is particularly effective for hauling in trout. Ponds, small streams, rivers and lakes are best for trout.

Fly-fishing is tantalizingly unique in that the bait is an artificial fly made by tying, fur, yarn, feathers, foam, or almost anything else that can be made to look like a fly onto a hook as bait.

The best way to learn how to tie flies is to talk with anglers who have become experts over time or you could attend a fly tying school or clinic.

Dry fly fishing and wet fly fishing are the two forms of fly-fishing.

Dry fly fishing is the most familiar and is regarded as the classic form. Using the dry fly fishing technique, the angler casts the fly upstream hoping that the trout will rise up and bite the fly as it passes overhead.

Wet fly-fishing involves fishing beneath the surface of the water and can be divided into lures fishing, true wet fly-fishing and nymph fishing.

Fly-fishing tackle, and fly-fishing reels and rods are all commonly used fly-fishing equipment. A beginning basic starter kit would contain rod, reel, line, leader and tippet materials, flies and flybox, tools, floatant, sunglasses and cap, and a bag to keep it all in.

Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, California, Idaho and more recently New Mexico are all popular fly-fishing areas in the U.S. British Columbia and Alberta are also very popular in Canada.

The popularity of fly-fishing has increased dramatically in recent years. It is definitely a fast growing sport and it's easy to see why; it's relaxing, enjoyable and rewarding. Usually, fly-fishing anglers practice the sport in the most beautiful areas of the world. Fly-fishermen worldwide are known to have an on going love affair with their sport. Beginning fly-fishing anglers may have difficulty learning the sport.

Probably the best place to learn is a fly-fishing school or clinic or from a fly-fisherman that is willing to take you on as a student. There are also a number of excellent fly-fishing ecourses on the Internet. The school or clinic you choose should teach the techniques, strategies, and tactics used in fly-fishing.

The beginning angler will greatly shorten the time it takes to become proficient in the sport by taking classes or attending clinics. The lessons should be presented in a relaxed, easy manner conducive to learning the basics of fly-fishing. Amiable, knowledgeable teaching anglers that are able to answer your questions and help you develop your expertise should staff the clinics.

Before you get hipdeep in any water, you should learn about the various fish you'll be casting for, learn the basics of casting and how to read the water, you'll want to know how to take care of your gear and how to tie knots, and maybe you'll even want to learn a little about hatches and entomology.

This sport is a life-long source of endless delight. You will "live" to feel the hairs on the back of your neck tingle as you watch a trout looking upstream for the fly you've just cast.

"The charm of (fly) fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive, but attainable - a perpetual series of occasions for hope." - anonymous <bio>Lanie Dills is the creator Fly Fishing Ontario.
Located in the northern part of Georgia in the United States, Lake Lanier is one of the most popular destinations for fishing trips. With additional water being fed from the Chestatee River allowing numerous other types of fish to join the ones already in this man-made lake, it's perhaps not surprising that this stretch of water is so popular.

When it's at its fullest level, Lake Lanier can boast over 39,000 surface acres of water, which explains why so many fishermen enjoy coming here for their trips. With over 1100 kilometres of shoreline stretching between five counties, it's an easily accessible area to get to as well, making it an ideal solution for both the weekend and serious angler.

The variety in fish in the lake is what makes this waterway so appealing. Trout fishing is accommodated for here, with not only the common brown trout being freely available, both rainbow and brook trout can also be found, thanks to the cold waters that make their way from the bottom of the lake.

If bass fishing is more your angle, then Lake Lanier caters to those needs as well. Not only will you find the most common of bass in these waters, but two of the four kinds of temperate bass can be found in the lake itself, making it an extremely convenient one-stop shop for bass fishing.

Many serious anglers enjoy sport fishing, where there is a bigger challenge to catching the fish due to its size or fighting ability. With striped bass frequenting the waters of Lake Lanier and in excellent numbers, this particular type of fishing can be enjoyed in the peaceful surroundings that this stretch of water has to offer.

The different water temperatures that can be found at Lake Lanier also add to the experience, especially if it's a more challenging fish you wish to undertake. Depending on the ambient temperatures, which can range from the coldest days in winter to the hottest in summer, the striped bass will lie at various depths. If it's colder water, then expect the fish to lie deeper where there is less likelihood of a fluctuation in temperature. A spring and early summer trip will find the fish at their highest point, usually just under the surface, making for a relatively easier catch.

With the facilities on offer, such as a water park and a golf course, as well as comfortable accommodation in the guise of either hotels or lake houses, the surrounding area around Lake Lanier makes for a pleasant experience, too. Even if you have a family and they don't share your enthusiasm for fishing, there's so much more to do that everyone can enjoy a vacation there, leaving you with the reason for going in the first place -- excellent fishing. <bio>Visit the Lake Lanier Fishing Guide for more information on Lake Lanier Fishing: http://www.lanierguidefishing.com/ </bio>

Fly fishing is very different than fishing with a lure or worm type baits. The fly fisherman uses a artificial fly consisting of bites of feathers, foam, hide, fur, yarn, and other materials to be tried on to a hook that make it appealing to the type of fish you are catching. Every fly fisherman has his own type of flies he like to use some purchase them and then some of us like to tie our own. Fly tying is more of an art with basic training which most people can learn over a short period of time.

Dry fly fishing is the best classic form of fishing. The artificial fly is cast so that it floats on the surface of the water. As the fly passes over the fish it will rise to the surface and strike or take the fly.

With the fly rod you will attempt to stop the fish from spitting out the fly and get it tired enough so you can land it in your net. With fly fishing you will see all the action as you cast the fly and play the fish for a strike. The fly is very visible on the surface to the fish. You will see the fish take the fly on the surface however trout and other fish tend to feed under water so if you see the fish rising to the surface it is time to use a dry fly.

Wet flies will sink under the surface of the water an may be passed in front of the fish there bye causing the fish too strike at the fly,

Nymph fishing is very popular after the flies lay eggs on lakes or in streams and they hatch out as nymphs. As the nymphs make their way to the surface the fish will take them. When they get to the surface they will hatch into a flies.

When nymph fishing the imitation nymphs you us will be weighted to stay below the surface of the water. This will be far more of a challenge for you as the action all take place under the surface of the water and you will not be able to see if a fish is about to strike.

Most fish can be caught on a fly but the most common are trout, salmon, chars, and most game fish. In most areas the trout are the most popular and you will find them feeding mostly on small insects in shallow water. If you live on the coast you find salmon fishing with a fly rod a very rewarding challenge. Hooking a 30 or 40 pound salmon on a fly rod will give you a work out running up and down the beach trying to play the fish out to land it .

The fly fishing sport has gained ever increasing popularity over the years. Most will agree it just not about catching the fish but in the delivery of the fly and the skill and knowledge in the pursuit. http://tinyurl.com/pgqjj

Some fly fisherman regard fly fishing as the holy grail of fishing. It is more relaxing and some say a better past time than golf. The sport of fly fishing see people from all walks of life. Some say it is more environmentally friends than the other type of fishing because it does less harm to the fish then other styles of fishing.

The art of fly fishing will get in to your blood and you will peruse the quite of the streams or the solitude of the ocean beaches to capture you prey. Most anglers will catch and release if they are fly fishing. <bio>Sammy Salmon has been having fun fishing for years and wants to share all his knowledge with you so be sure to visit him at http://tinyurl.com/pgqjj http://www.fishing-for-fun.net. </bio>

Do you possess a love of fishing? Here is a list of popular fish, both saltwater and fresh.

Freshwater:

1. Trout is a yummy fish. Apply the catch and release rule some of time. It is important to leave some of the trout behind since they are the top predator in their environment. The different varieties of trout is: rainbow, brown, brook and lake.

2. The most popular fish in the United States is the bass fish. Fishing for bass is a great experience. The American bass is part of the sunfish family. There are several varieties of bass and they are: largemouth, smallmouth and white.

3. I have to say that walleye is one of best tasting fish I have ever had. You can find them close to a drop-off and they stay in schools. Even though fishing for walleye can be tricky it can be done. The walleye's cousin is perch.

4. If you want a potentially dangerous and tricky fish to catch then go after the pike. They tend to have sharp teeth and a bad attitude. Pike fish cannot be rushed and like to be in weedy shallows. They take their time in ambushing their prey. This fish is bony but also tasty. The pike is related to the muskellunge and pickerel.

5. The panfish can be easy and fun to catch. This is a very tasty fish to eat. Panfish will attach almost anything on a book because they are so small and always hungry. The different varieties of the panfish are: bluegill, white crappie, black crappie and sunfish.

Saltwater:

1. The bluefish can be caught pretty easily but keep in mind that they are strong fighters. If you're looking for a good fight then this is the fish for you. If you eat the bluefish fresh it is absolutely delicious.

2. Another yummy fish to eat is the flounder. This is a fish that is also pretty easy to catch. As long as you have a fish-finding device and a little boar you should not have any trouble finding them. Another variety of the flounder is the fluke fish.

3. If you are a fisherman looking for a challenge then go after the striped bass. Keep in mind that the striped bass are picky about what they will attack and when they will do it. Using a bunker or herring as a bait fish might increase your changes of catching one. A fly-rod, plugs or spoons work well.

4. The redfish is also known as the red drum or channel bass and can be found from Houston to New Jersey. They tend to be fighters and prefer shallow water. If the fly does not land right in front of their noses they will probably completely ignore you.

5. An important commercial fish is the cod. This is a fish that can be caught during the cold months. Cod tend to be big so you will need a heavy line. These fish can weigh more than 30 pounds. Cod are quite delicious whether they are eaten fresh, dried or salted.

Hopefully the next time you are out fishing for the day you will be successful in getting at least one of these fish hooked on your line. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for Fishing Niche which is an excellent place to find fishing links, resources and articles.
Sleetmute, Alaska is a little town of 100 or so people and is near one of the great fishing locations in Alaska, that being Stoney River Lodge. This Alaska Fishing Lodge is perfectly located near some great fishing that boasts such catch as Grayling, Artic Char, Salmon, Sheefish, Rainbow and Lake Trout. It even has some tremendous Northern Pike for anglers to catch.

Stoney River Lodge is located 230 miles to the West of Anchorage, Alaska and access is strictly by bush aircraft. The flight is a short hour and forty-five minutes to this family owned and operated establishment. The closet neighbor to this Alaska Fishing Lodge is about twenty miles. The remoteness of Stoney River Lodge should give you an idea of the unspoiled fishing that awaits you.

The lodge has been around since 1972 and has a full service, professional guide available to help anglers bring home "the big one". There are boats available and you have the option of bringing your own tackle or have them outfit you on arrival. If you enjoy fly-fishing, then take note that this area is an outstanding choice for your Alaska fishing vacation.

Log cabins that include daily housekeeping, full private baths, a spacious lounge deck with a wonderful lake view and a friendly staff make this stay enjoyable when you are not fishing. In fact, Stoney River Lodge offers Bed and Breakfast accommodations for those who wish to enjoy more of what Alaska has to offer.

Make sure you schedule time for some sightseeing, by utilizing the "flight-seeing" tours. Bear can often be seen and of course other tremendous sights of nature. You may even spot moose, caribou, or sheep. This combined with the Bed and Breakfast accommodations makes Stoney River Lodge a great retreat for the fisherman/woman and their non-fishing spouse.

If you would like to add this Alaska Fishing Lodge to your next fishing adventure, keep in mind the proper fishing times. Even numbered years for mid-June through the end of June will be for Pink Salmon. June trough July are the months for Lake Trout and Sheefish.
