Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a clinical condition which is the final result of severe heart disease. It is usual that when a dog has heart failure, heart disease is also present in the body. However, it is true that in some cases, heart disease can be present, but never lead to congestive heart disease.

When high diastolic pressures in the heart build up into the veins and capillaries, then congestive heart failure can occur, which in turn causes a leakage of fluid out of those vessels.

Heart failure is the end result of many different cardiac and pericardial diseases. These include:

=95 Decreased myocardial contractibility. This is a weak heart muscle, which is commonly seen with dilated cardiomyopathy.

=95 Valvular regurgitation. This is a leak in one of the four heart valves, as seen with mitral and tricuspid regurgitation.

=95 Increased myocardial stiffness, which impairs the heart's ability to fill with blood.

In the beginning, the signs of congestive heart failure can be quite mild and difficult to see. However the symptoms can become more severe in a short space of time. Some of the symptoms to look for are:

=95 Lack of energy =96 the dog becomes much less active and tires quickly during the later stages of congestive heart failure;

=95 Poor appetite;

=95 Weight loss;

=95 Heavy breathing =96 the dog can show signs of difficulty in breathing, panting and coughing whilst resting;

=95 Coughing;

=95 Swollen abdomen - the dogs' stomach can enlarge as fluid accumulates in the liver and abdomen; and

=95 Change of mouth color =96 the color of the membranes of the mouth can be grayish rather than being a healthy pink color.

The first thing that is needs to be done though, is to manage the clinical signs of congestive heart failure by reducing the formation of edema and effusion and to increase the cardiac output, which is the delivery of blood to the tissues.

There are a wide variety of treatments available for Congestive Heart Failure, depending on the severity of the condition.

One of the most popular drugs used for this disease is Digitalis. This is a medication which belongs to a group called positive inotropic agents which help to increase the concentration of calcium in the heart muscle cells.

Diuretics are also another well known drug used for dogs with this condition. These drugs help to remove built up fluids that occur in the lungs and abdomen.

Monitor your dogs attitude and any changes in appearance when you spend time with your friend. It is essential to keep a diary of anything that varies from "the norm" so that you can show it to your vet. Check your dog on a daily basis for:

- breathing, see if it is heavy or labored; - loss or reduction of appetite; - restlessness; - fainting; and - profound lethargy.

However, it is important to remember, that canine congestive heart failure is a major disease and it is a necessity to have regular visits to your veterinarian to ensure that your dogs' needs are being met. <bio>Joann Henry operates "Doggie Health Care" http://www.DoggieHealthCare.com, a blog all about our pooches health.
For general awareness of CHO, one is required to know about the anatomy of the heart for practical purposes.

'The heart is a four-chambered organ. The upper two (small) chambers are called auricles and the lower two (larger) are called ventricles. The auricles on each side are connected with their respective ventricles through an orifice/ opening, the left one is called mitral orifice and the right one is called tricuspid orifice. The orifices are guarded by valves (called the mitral valve and the tricuspid valve) so that blood flows in one direction only i.e. from auricles to ventricles, on each side.

The left side of the heart contains pure or oxygenated blood. After oxygenation, the blood comes from the lungs to the left upper chamber i.e. the left auricle through the pulmonary veins. From left auricle, the blood goes to the left ventricle through the mitral orifice, and from the left ventricle, the blood is pushed/pumped into the aorta (through the aortic orifice, guarded by the aortic valve) i.e. the main blood vessel which supplies blood to the entire body through its several branches.

From the body, the blood has to return to the heart for further oxygenation. This blood enters into the upper right chamber of the heart (right auricle), through superior vena cava which returns the blood from the upper half of the body and through the inferior vena cava, which returns the blood from the lower half of the body. The blood then goes to the right ventricle through the tricuspid orifice. The right ventricle further pushes the blood through the pulmonary orifice (guarded by pulmonary valve) into the pulmonary trunk, which divides into right and left pulmonary arteries for carrying the blood further to the right and left lung respectively, for oxygenation.

It is obvious from the above that the left side chambers contain oxygenated blood while the right side chambers contain impure blood. The right and left side chambers of the heart are not connected in any way, so that there is no mixing of pure and impure blood.

The main pulmonary artery/trunk which carries blood from right ventricle to the lungs for oxygenation may be involved. If this vessel is stenosed, called pulmonary stenosis (PS), the whole blood from the right ventricle will not be able to go to the lungs for purification. This defect may be associated with a septal defect either between the two auricles called atrial septal defect (ASD) or between the two ventricles called ventricular septal defect (VSD), or both, so that impure blood goes to the left side (as in such cases pressure is more in the chambers on the right side), i.e. into the left auricle or the left ventricle.

In this way, left side chambers of the heart instead of containing pure oxygenated blood, contain mixed blood i.e. both pure and impure blood. This mixed blood is supplied to the body through the aorta, so that the body instead of getting pure oxygenated blood, gets mixed blood, and hence each organ/tissue of the body suffers, and the child may be born. blue/ cyanosed, or becomes blue with a slight exertion.

If pulmonary stenosis (PS) is associated with VSD With resultant right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH), and the aorta also gets connected with the right ventricle (as a result of VSD), called dextroposition of the aorta (DA), the condition is called tetralogy of Fallot (PS, VSD, RVH, DA). And when tetralogy of Fallot is associated with ASD, the condition is called pentalogy of Fallot. In such cases the child is expected to be markedly blue (cyanosed) right from birth i.e. a blue baby may be born. <bio>Author sites: http://www.herbalremedieslk.com, http://self-health-tips.blogspot.com, http://www.e-self-help.com </bio>

The causes of acid reflux (GERD) are rather simple should they not lead to complications. GERD without complications causes heartburn, nausea, and regurgitation. However, the complications are rather severe, ranging from an ulcerated esophagus, symptoms of coughing and asthma to Barrett's esophagus which left untreated can lead to esophageal cancer and eventually death. So, it is best to seek treatment for the symptoms of Acid Reflux disease (GERD) before complications have set in.

What is Acid Reflux Disease? Acid reflux disease is frequent (and sometimes not so frequent) regurgitation (liquid or food being forced in reverse direction in the digestive system) of digestive juices into the esophagus. These juices contain the digestive juices, one of which is a very strong acid (hydrochloric acid, HCL) which burns the lower esophagus and causes much pain and sometimes regurgitation of small amounts of liquid into the mouth. Acid reflux also causes heartburn and nausea.

Should these symptoms persist without monitoring and treatment the disease can lead to precancerous skin cells growing in the esophagus, this is called Barrett's esophagus and can lead to cancer of the esophagus.

What causes acid reflux disease? There are several causes of GERD. Acid reflux disease can be caused by any one of several disorders of the upper digestive tract. It is also a possible disturbance pregnancy because both hormones and the growing fetus are pushing on the digestive tract and can cause relaxation or opening of the lower esophageal sphincter which can cause a reflux of digestive juices into the esophagus and thus acid reflux disease. Hiatal hernia, which is a hernia or distention of the walls of the lower esophagus weakens the lower esophagus and thus sometimes causes GERD. The reason it only causes this in some cases is not known. There are several others such as congenital weakness or other abnormalities in the lower esophagus.

Signs and symptoms of acid reflux disease The chief signs and symptoms are heartburn, a pain in the lower esophagus caused by the acid having prolonged contact with the unprotected lining of the lower esophagus. Nausea and regurgitation are the common symptoms which are caused by some of the digestive juices being forced up into the mouth.

Burning feeling in chest or heartburn after taking your food, burning sensation in throat, becoming croaky and even loosing voice, lingering bitter acidic taste in mouth, continuous coughing, finding it difficult to swallow are other few common symptoms.

The larger problem with GERD is with the possible complications that can occur with prolonged damage of the lower esophagus. Barrett's cells have been discussed and are a serious complication that can lead to esophageal cancer. Other complications are an ulcerated esophagus, and coughing for unknown reasons, either because of the irritation in the region of the lungs and esophagus, or because an asthma attack has been triggered.

Treatment of acid reflux disease The treatments for GERD (acid reflux disease) are certain medications, and a change of diet and other minor lifestyle changes that assist in decreasing the symptoms. Acidic foods are eliminated, fatty foods which can lower the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) and thus open it and cause acid reflux. Changes in sleeping patterns are also needed to prevent heartburn at night. <bio>T. Houser http://www.acidcurereflux.com </bio>

Acid reflux or GERD is a problem that many people face on a daily basis. Although everyone has reflux, a patient with acid reflux actually experiences a burning, painful sensation as the stomach liquids back up into the esophagus. This can be an uncomfortable and even serious medical problem.

In most cases, the symptoms of acid reflux are painful and uncomfortable but not seriously damaging to a person's health. These types of symptoms are referred to as "uncomplicated" acid reflux. The three most common symptoms are nausea, regurgitation, and heartburn.

Patients with acid reflux often report suffering from nausea. In fact, nausea as a result of acid reflux is so common that when a patient experiences nausea with no apparent cause, a doctor usually suspects acid reflux as the culprit.

Equally as common as nausea occurring from acid reflux is regurgitation. Regurgitation occurs when refluxed liquid actually backs up into the mouth. Sometimes, this liquid can contain food. When a patient regurgitates, they often experience a burning sensation as refluxed liquid and food bypass the UES (upper esophageal sphincter) and make their way into the mouth. This burning is often accompanied by an awful, acidic taste. If a patient continues to experience regurgitation, it can actually cause damage to their teeth as the acidic substance erodes the enamel that encases each tooth.

Probably the most common reported complaint of acid reflux patients is the presence of heartburn. This is usually characterized as a searing pain in the chest. It can either begin in your upper abdomen or actually travel up to your neck. For some patients, this can be a cause for alarm. In fact, many people have mistaken painful acid reflux for a heart attack. Heartburn is especially prevalent after eating meals. Although heartburn usually goes away, the bad news is that it is usually a lifelong problem that will eventually return.

Although most forms of acid reflux do not pose serious health risks, there are complications that can occur from acid reflux. One of the most common complications comes in the form of ulcers. If the liquid from the stomach that refluxes, damages the lining of the esophagus, inflammation can occur. If the damage is deep enough, an ulcer can actually form. Scar tissue can form a "stricture" which can cause food to get lodged or stuck in the esophagus.

Another complication that can arise from acid reflux is Barrett's Esophagus. If a person has severe acid reflux, this causes changes to the cells that surround and line the esophagus. These can turn pre-cancerous and even evolve into cancer cells.

There are many other complications that sometimes occur as a result of acid reflux. Asthma and coughs can be intensified or sparked by acid reflux. The same is true of inflammation of the throat, larynx, or lungs. A patient can also experience fluid in his sinuses or middle ears.

Although the complications associated with acid reflux are rare, it is important to keep in mind that acid reflux is a condition that should be treated by your doctor. There are also a variety of effective home remedies for acid reflux. If properly handled, it is a highly treatable condition. If left unattended, you risk the possibility of causing irreparable damage to your body. <bio>Kathryn Whittaker has an interest in Acid Reflux.
Following two recent studies, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) announced a Permax recall on March 29, 2007. The Permax recall includes both the name brand Permax (peroglide) and the generic versions of peroglide. Current studies have revealed Permax heart valve disease in around one-fourth of Parkinson's patients who have taken Permax over an extended period of time.

Permax Valvulopathy (valve injuries) first came to the attention of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002. Permax was approved by the FDA in 1988. Prior to the Permax recall, the FDA added a black box warning regarding the risk of serious heart valve damage.

Permax side effects including heart valve damage were revealed in the studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). High rates of valve leakage were found in up to 20% of patients prescribed Permax. Dr. Robert Temple, the associate director for medical policy at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, stated that Permax (Peroglide) was linked with a fivefold increase in regurgitation of the mitral, atrial, or tricuspid valves compared with the general population. The side effects revealed in these studies were further evidence of the ongoing problems leading to the Permax recall.

Permax, which is also known as Peroglide, is used in the treatment of Parkinson's patients and also for a condition called Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). Parkinson's disease is caused by the degeneration of neurons in an area of the brain involved with movement control that results in a progressive neurological disorder. Restless legs syndrome is also a neurological condition, however it is often misdiagnosed even though it affects around 2.7% of people in the United States. Permax heart valve damage has been reported in both Parkinson's and Restless Legs Syndrome patients around the United States. The Permax recall is expected to affect the future treatment of both Parkinson's and RLS patients.

Permax was released in 1989 after being developed by Eli Lilly. Over 500,000 people have taken Permax since 1989 to treat Parkinson's and RLS. Two European studies were conducted in Britain and Italy. In the Italian study, of the 155 people who had taken Permax, 23.4% of them developed Permax heart problems. The British study involved 11,417 people who were taking the drug. Patients in the British study were 37 times more probable to develop Permax heart damage problems. Serious Permax heart valve disease has also been reported by the Mayo Clinic in patients who took the drug and were later diagnosed with heart problems.

The FDA has announced that due to the Permax recall patients with Parkinson's should:

=95 Contact their healthcare professional to discuss alternate treatment options.

=95 NOT stop taking Peroglide (Permax) without consulting their healthcare professional, since stopping Permax can be dangerous and several other effective treatments are available.

The FDA has stated that the effect of the Permax recall will not be immediate. There will be a delay which will allow doctors and patients to arrange for appropriate replacement treatment options. Following the Permax recall, the companies that manufacture and distribute peroglide (Permax) are cooperating with the FDA in the removal of the drug from the marketplace. <bio>Steve Fields - To learn more about http://www.injurygroup.com/ Permax Recall please visit our website.
The primary symptom of acid reflux is heartburn. Heartburn is a burning sensation that radiates up from the stomach to the chest and throat. It is most likely to occur in conjunction with the following activities: lying down on your back, lifting, bending over or after eating a heavy meal.

Another common symptom is regurgitation, which is the feeling of acid backing up in the throat. Acid can regurgitate as far as the mouth in what is sometimes called a `wet burp'. In rare instances, acid regurgitation can exit as vomit.

Acid reflux sufferers that frequently experience symptoms at night tend to have more severe symptoms than those that suffer during the day. However, most acid reflux sufferers experience their symptoms at night. Acid reflux can indicate a damaged esophagus, so it is best to consult a doctor when experiencing continued acid reflux symptoms. Even with severe heartburn, it is not an indicator of an injury to the esophagus. People can suffer sever heartburn without damage to the esophagus.

There are symptoms of acid reflux that are less common. One such symptom is chest sensations or pain in the chest. Patients may feel that there is food trapped behind the breastbone.

Another less common symptom is throat irritation including dry cough, hoarseness, or having a lump in the throat and always having to clear your throat. In rare cases, a person may have trouble swallowing their food, causing severe chest pain. In this case, there is the feeling that the food is stuck in the esophagus. Other symptoms include persistent hiccups or chronic sore throat.

Some acid reflux sufferers experience asthmatic symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. Even nonsmoking people suffer from a cough associated with acid reflux. A patient may experience persistent nausea for weeks at a time that is not associated with any common cause of stomach upset may be a symptom of acid reflux. Even vomiting can occur on a daily basis. However, other causes of chronic vomiting and nausea need to be ruled out, before determining that the cause is acid reflux.

There is a condition known as Barrett's Esophagus. This condition occurs by repeated acid reflux occurrences, which cause changes to the lining of the esophagus. Approximately 10% of these cases will develop into esophagus cancer. If you suffer from Barrett's Esophagus you must undergo regular examinations and you should be receiving continued acid reflux treatment. <bio>Thomas D.
Acid reflux disease, also known as GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) is a spilling of gastric contents up into the esophagus. In the early stages of this disease, it can cause heartburn. However, if not treated, severe GERD symptoms will begin to rear their ugly heads. In addition, these severe GERD symptoms can and do lead to esophageal cancer. Therefore, if possible, it is best to be treated for any heartburn that occurs more than once a week. By doing this, you are then able to prevent severe GERD symptoms.

Severe GERD Symptoms:

1. Barrett's esophagus-GERD can eventually lead to what is known as Barrett's esophagus. This is the most severe of GERD symptoms. Barrett's esophagus is the result of years of the effects of stomach acid, which is as strong as battery acid. While the stomach is able to tolerate this strong acid, the esophagus is not. The only way to diagnose this severe GERD symptom is to have an EGD, a test in which the Doctor looks at the esophagus through an endoscope. This leads to inflammation, and extreme cell damage. Because of this cell damage, the cells mutate and become cancerous. It also must be related that cancer caused by this severe GERD symptom leads to death in about 85% of those who get it.

2. Regurgitation - is another severe GERD symptom. This occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach not only enter the esophagus but back flows up into the mouth. This can especially happen when you lay down. This severe GERD symptom can lead to other severe GERD symptoms such as chronic coughing, and choking.

3. Hoarseness is a further severe GERD symptom. This severe GERD symptom is caused by the damage to the vocal cords by frequent acid reflux into the mouth (regurgitation).

4. This also causes nausea and vomiting after meals, which are also severe GERD symptoms.

These are the severe GERD symptoms that you must be aware of when you have heartburn.

Medications for heartburn relieve the pain in the beginning of GERD. However, it is important to get periodic check-ups of your esophagus if you continue to have heartburn for several months, especially if the heartburn is more than twice a week and you are over the age of 50. This is especially important for white men because they are most likely to have severe GERD symptoms such as Barrett's esophagus.

Much discussion has occurred regarding Barrett's esophagus and how to treat this severe GERD symptom. There are those who suggest watching it and hoping it does not turn cancerous, because it often does not. Then there are those who want to attempt to use new technologies to treat this potentially fatal severe GERD symptom before it turns cancerous.

Acid reflux disease can cause several severe GERD symptoms, which can be uncomfortable, or become potentially fatal. Therefore, it is very important to get proper treatment for acid reflux disease to prevent these potentially fatal severe GERD symptoms. <bio>Thomas D. Houser Do you suffer from acid reflux?
The one universal sign of acid reflux that even a five-year-old recognizes is the burning sensation felt in the throat and chest after consuming oily or spicy food. A mere cheeseburger can cause this extreme, but universal sign of acid reflux.

That burning sensation so commonly experienced by diners is only one of the calling cards of acid reflux. Other symptoms sufferers may experience include such things as a consistent sore throat, bad breath or a bitter taste in the mouth. In spite of good mouth hygiene, they may exhibit yellow teeth. They may have acid regurgitation or a dry cough. Such symptoms are perhaps just as serious and uncomfortable as the persistent burning sensation that follows eating foods that trigger heartburn or regurgitation.

Heartburn is a common sign of acid reflux that is also experienced by heart or chest pain sufferers. Yet chest pain, the most significant sign of acid reflux, is the least understood indicator of this disease.

It is important that you learn to tell the difference between heartburn and heart-related chest pains. Many sufferers who experience chest pain rush to the hospital fearing they are having a heart attack. Fortunately, they often learn that is not the case. Yet, you should not take chest pain lightly. If your chest hurts, seek medical help right away, regardless of how many false alarms you have had in the past. Chest pain can indicate a life-threatening heart attack.

The name heartburn indicates the general area of the body where the pain is located. Heartburn can feel as though the pain is literally coming from your heart. The burn describes the feeling that, although the pain is centered in the chest, there are pains radiating or burning away from the center point.

The reason for this sign of acid reflux known as heartburn among acid reflux sufferers is that the acidity causing the heartburn occurs in the digestive tract that runs near the heart. Heart-related chest pain will increase with simple physical exertion, unrelated to eating. If you feel that your heart is about to burst, you are experiencing actual heart-related pain and are possibly having a heart attack. If that is the case, seek medical attention immediately. However, the heartburn associated with acid reflux increases and decreases primarily when you eat certain foods. For instance, oily foods will make a dramatic increase in heartburn for most sufferers. <bio>Find more Helpful

Acid Reflux tips, advice Click Here: http://www.acidrefluxhelpcenter.com

A Popular website that specializes in tips and resources to include Acid Reflux Causes, Acid Reflux Disease Treatment, and [http://www.acidrefluxhelpcenter.com/acid-reflux-disease-symptom.html] Acid Reflux Disease Symptom </bio>

Differential GERD diagnosis secrets shine the light on misdiagnosing GERD. Listen up. Large surveys have shown that about half of the general population has monthly heartburn or regurgitation. What that means is that GERD is likely the most common gastrointestinal disease seen in primary care. GERD can be very painful and is debilitating in severe cases. What happens is that the lower esophageal muscle or sphincter opens the wrong way allowing gastric acids to back flow up the esophagus. Unlike the stomach, the esophagus has no defense against gastric acids.

This is hard to believe, but most GERD patients wait one to three years before consulting a physician.

Folks, this is a very treatable disease.

Differential Diagnosis of GERD

A differential diagnosis of GERD occurs when a physician misdiagnoses the condition. Put differently they assure the patient that they have a problem other than GERD when actually GERD is the imminent problem. This is a common happening, as the symptoms of GERD are so wide spread that they link up to a myriad of other health circumstances as well.

Pay close attention to what I am about to tell you. A differential diagnosis of GERD can be life threatening, particularly if the condition is already quite severe in the first place. Not only will the patient have to cope with the anguish of the disease but also it can in reality cause an attack of various other diseases.

When to Call the Physician

Let's face it, it is absolutely critical to get assistance for a condition such as GERD as soon as you can, and so if you ever start feeling any of the symptoms of GERD, such as:

* Asthma * Trouble swallowing * Chronic dry cough * Heartburn * Dyspepsia * Chest pain * Nausea * Hiccups * Regurgitation * Dysphagia * Hoarseness

This is when you call the physician. Don't wait for three years to do this. Your health is crucial to your well being.

Likewise make certain that you don't experience a differential diagnosis of GERD, and lets face it a differential diagnosis of GERD can go in either direction.

Mistakes

Either you may be assured that you have GERD while you actually don't, or you may have GERD and your physician might suppose that you have different health conditions. They are human. They make mistakes. In order to make certain that you get an appropriate diagnosis, you'll need to do a lot of exploring on one's own. Naturally your physician is a medical professional and generally knows his Ps from his Qs, but anyone can make a mistake and misdiagnosis can be the result.

Diary

Keep a diary. List the different conditions and symptoms under which GERD occurs. Make sure that you check the list to determine whether there is improvement or a decline in the conditions or symptoms that you are experiencing. Then, it is possible to ascertain whether the diagnosis you are receiving is a misdiagnosis or not. Differential GERD diagnosis secrets should be no secret when GERD is involved. Take appropriate action by working with your physician to achieve the best treatment possible to get you back on your feet. <bio>Alan Dicalux is a researcher/writer who has been involved with acid reflux and studied its effects for many years.
Have you been experiencing symptoms that you once thought could be indigestion, but are now thinking that perhaps the symptoms you are experiencing are related to acid reflux? The only way you can determine if what you are suffering is acid reflux is to know the symptoms of the digestive condition and seek the advice of your health care provider.

To start you on your path of discovery, the following is a list of all the possible symptoms of acid reflux:

Common symptoms:

Heartburn -- This is the most common acid reflux symptom and is characterized by a burning sensation that feels as though it is rising from the stomach or lower chest, and continues up towards the region of the neck. In many cases, the burning sensation typically begins behind the breastbone, and it may travel up to the throat.

However, heartburn can be severe in some people and spread to the neck, jaw, arms and back.

Chest Pain -- This may include chest pressure, dull chest discomfort, or severe burning pain that radiates across the mid chest. If you are suffering chest pain you should consult a physician immediately to rule out any heart problems.

Excessive salvation -- An increase in saliva production after eating may be the body's response to dealing with too much acid, as saliva helps to neutralize acid. Sometimes the stomach produces excessive acid which increases the risk of reflux.

Burning sensation in the throat -- This symptom generally causes a person to feel burning high in the neck close to the mouth, but it can happen in the lower region of the neck as well. It is common for the painful burning sensation to worsen when the person swallows.

This particular symptom is often brought on by irritation that occurs when stomach contents have been refluxed up the esophagus into the throat.

Painful swallowing -- This symptom usually follows the burning sensation in the throat.

Acid taste in the mouth/regurgitation -- With this symptom a person tastes a strong sour or bitter flavor in their mouth.

This usually occurs when acid has been refluxed up the esophagus into the back of the throat. Sometimes, along with the bitter taste, a person may also have food contents refluxed back into their mouth, which is better known as regurgitation.

Sore throat, bad breath, and dental erosion -- These symptoms typically occur as a result of a person suffering from acid being refluxed up into the throat and mouth.

Trouble swallowing -- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) is a symptom that occurs when food cannot pass normally from the mouth to the esophagus and to the stomach. Most people who experience dysphagia feel as if food is stuck in their throat, a choking sensation, pressure in their chest, or a burning sensation after eating. If you are experiencing dysphagia, you should seek the attention of your health care provider as soon as possible to have your condition evaluated, as this symptom is often associated with more severe complications involving the esophagus.

Less common symptoms:

Nausea and/or vomiting -- Very few gastroesophageal reflus disease (GERD) sufferers experience this symptom. Nevertheless, nausea does occur, especially in those who don't typically experience heartburn. When unexplained nausea and/or vomiting occur, GERD is usually one of the first conditions doctors suspect.

Chronic coughing -- A persistent dry cough can be a symptom of acid reflux that may occur if acid is irritating the windpipe or when acid is refluxed into the lungs, which is known as aspiration. Persistent coughing can cause hoarseness or asthma-like symptoms such as wheezing.

Severe chest pain -- sometimes severe chest pain can develop that feels like a heart attack. Though severe chest pain related to acid reflux is non-life threatening, if you experience what you feel is a heart attack, do not just assume it is acid reflux and seek medical attention immediately!

Keep in mind that almost all symptoms of acid reflux occur, and are at their worst, shortly after eating. However, it is also common for symptoms to be present when lying down or sleeping. Symptoms of acid reflux tend to come and go and may last for minutes, but can also remain for several hours. Symptoms usually go away when acid is neutralized by medication such as an antacid, or sometimes with a natural remedy.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, you are likely suffering from acid reflux. If you are experiencing symptoms frequently, this could be an indication that you are suffering from GERD. In either event, it is best to speak to your health care provider about your symptoms and your concerns, so you can receive a proper diagnosis and discuss your treatment options.<bio>Grab your free copy of Kathryn Whittaker's brand new Acid Reflux and GERD Newsletter - and discover more about how to recognise acid reflux symptoms.
You are sitting down with your date after a dinner out and instead of wanting to get to know her better; you want to scream from the battery acid strength liquid that is reversing its flow of direction and coming up into your esophagus. This may be heartburn or you may have acid reflux syndrome. So, how do you tell? Well, an occasional case of heartburn is far different from acid reflux syndrome in many ways. Just by its name acid reflux syndrome, a syndrome is a collection of various related symptoms. Therefore, heartburn is just one burning sensation that comes and goes occasionally, we have all probably had that.

However, acid reflux syndrome is a multititude of various symptoms that can lead to esophageal cancer if left untreated or not treated sufficiently.

Acid reflux syndrome is a very serious condition that has several serious symptoms that can cause a lifetime of problems. The main symptom of acid reflux syndrome that everyone knows about is the heartburn sensation. This is why acid reflux syndrome is confused with regular heartburn. However, there are additional symptoms that do not come with regular heartburn. Some of the symptoms of acid reflux syndrome either are regurgitation of stomach acid into just the esophagus or all the way up into your mouth. There is a horrible sour taste and you may even taste solid partially digested food. Another symptom of acid reflux syndrome is waking up at night with this painful burning sensation. Some people have found that eating settles it down for a while, but not always and not for long.

In addition, asthmatics may confuse the coughing, that can occur mostly at night with the symptoms of acid reflux syndrome.

It also may happen the other way around for them. Untreated asthmatic coughing may in turn stir up the stomach acid and bring it up to the mouth in full force. Nausea and vomiting are two other symptoms of acid reflux syndrome.

The prognosis of acid reflux syndrome is not good, especially if left untreated. If left untreated, acid reflux syndrome can eat away at the lower esophagus and lead to the development of precancerous and even cancerous cell growths. Esophageal cancer is among the fastest growing cancers. This year alone over 4,000 people with get Esophageal Cancer because of acid reflux syndrome, only 16% of them will survive. That means that this year alone over 3,000 people will die from acid reflux syndrome related esophageal cancer.

The above statistics show how important it is to treat acid reflux syndrome. Because it cannot be stressed enough that acid reflux syndrome, if left untreated not only will become a lifelong problem, costing you thousands of dollars worth of doctor's bills and medical expenses, but acid reflux syndrome, left untreated may cost you your very life. <bio>T.
Acid reflux symptoms include persistent heartburn and stomach acid regurgitation. It is possible to have acid reflux without heartburn. In this case, you would experience pain in your chest, a hoarse throat in the morning or have trouble swallowing. You may feel that there is food stuck in your throat or you feel that you are choking and your throat is tight. Acid reflux can also can bad breath and a dry cough.

When your stomach acid splashes up from the stomach into the esophagus, you get the burning pain associated with acid reflux. The esophagus is the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. Stomach acid helps to digest the food you eat. The acid in your stomach is hydrochloric acid, which helps to prevent bacteria from growing in your stomach and intestines. The stomach lining prevents the hydrochloric acid from damaging your stomach.

Various treatments for acid reflux range from medicine to non-surgical procedures.

Medicines include over the counter treatments such as antacids. These tablets are to be ingested 30 to 60 minutes after eating a meal and before going to bed. Liquid antacids are preferable to tablets. The best liquids include Maalox II, Mylanta II, Gelusil II and Extra Strength Riopan.

Gaviscon and Algicon are tablets that place a layer of foam over the stomach acid to prevent acid reflux. You should chew these tablets well and take them 30 to 60 minutes after eating and at bedtime.

There are other drugs available now that reduce and even eliminate the secretion of stomach acid and strengthens the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) muscle. Some of these strong drugs are Reglan and Urecholine. However, these types of acid reflux drugs have adverse side effects. A drug called Propulsid was taken off the market due to its cardiac side effects.

Surgery is a last resort. The type of surgery to treat acid reflux is Endoscopic Surgery. However, before it is determined that the person needs surgery, the patient must undergo a series of tests assessing nonacid and acid reflux. The surgery strengthens the LES muscle. Successful surgery relieves and corrects severe acid reflux.

In conclusion, these acid reflux symptoms and treatments are provided as a guide to those who feel they may have acid reflux. It is always best to consult your Doctor before trying any treatments. <bio>Thomas D. Houser http://www.acidcurereflux.com </bio>

Since Permax was approved in 1988, 12,000 to 25,000 patients have been prescribed the drug to treat the symptoms associated with Parkinson's. Permax is primarily used to treat Parkinson's patients during the early stages of the disease. Recent studies have revealed Permax heart valve disease problems in Parkinson's patients following long-term use of the drug.

Men and women are affected by Parkinson's disease in almost equal numbers. Parkinson's disease is the most commonly diagnosed neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, around 50,000 new Parkinson's Disease cases are reported annually. Since its approval doctors have prescribed Permax to over 500,000 Parkinson's and Restless Legs Syndrome patients.

Parkinson's symptoms are characterized in four primary ways:

=95rest tremor of a limb (shaking with the limb at rest) =95rigidity (stiffness of the limbs and trunk) =95slowness of movement (bradykinesia) =95postural instability (poor balance)

Permax (peroglide) is a member of a class of drugs referred to as dopamine agonists and is used to help treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Most Parkinson's symptoms are caused by a lack of dopamine. Medications such at Permax are used to treat Parkinson's by attempting to mimic dopamine which helps improve the symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease.

Recent studies have shown an increased risk of Permax heart valve disease in Parkinson's patients who have taken the drug over a long period of time. A new Permax study, "Cardiac Valve Regurgitation With Peroglide Compared With Nonergot Agonists in Parkinson Disease", was published in the March 2007 issue of the medical journal Archives of Neurology. This study involved Parkinson's patients and showed an increased risk of Permax heart valve disease following long-term use of the drug. Two other Permax studies conducted in Britain and Italy also revealed a significant increase in Parkinson's patients developing heart valve disease. Permax valve injuries were found in around one-fourth of Parkinson's patients taking the drug.

In 2006 a black box warning was added to the Permax label following serious concerns of heart valve disease risks in Parkinson's patients taking the drug. On March 29, 2007 the FDA announced a Permax recall after more studies revealed increasing evidence of Permax heart valve disease in Parkinson's patients. The FDA stated that the withdrawal of Permax from the marketplace would not be immediate in order to allow time for doctors and patients to discuss appropriate alternative treatment options. <bio>http://www.injurygroup.com </bio>

Evidence of Permax heart valve damage has increased following a new study published in the March 2007 issue of the medical journal Archives of Neurology. This study provides further support of the problems linked to Permax. Heart valve damage was found to increase with long-term use of the drug. The purpose of this study was to compare Permax patients with those treated with the drugs Mirapex and Requip.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) first became aware of Permax heart valve injury problems in 2002. Permax (peroglide) has been on the market since 1989. Permax has been prescribed to treat Parkinson's patients and people suffering from Restless Legs Syndrome. A black box warning was added to the drug's label in 2006 as a result of increasing concern over Permax heart valve damage side effects.

Recent studies were conducted in Britain and Italy to evaluate serious concerns that Permax heart valve damage occurred with long-term use of the drug. In the British study, 11,417 people were given Permax. The test subjects were 37 times more likely to develop heart problems. The Italian study involved 155 Parkinson's patients who were taking Permax. Heart valve damage was reported in 23.4% of the people taking the drug in that study.

The Mayo Clinic has also reported problems with Permax heart valve injury. According to a report by doctors at the Mayo Clinic, three patients who took Permax for three to seven years suffered serious heart valve damage. Two of the patients had significant heart damage requiring valve replacement surgery. The Mayo Clinic doctors recommended that given the dangers associated with Permax, patients with heart problems should not take the drug.

Permax heart valve damage symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath and swelling of the feet and ankles. In some cases, patients with serious heart valve injuries can require heart valve replacement or if left untreated, the patient may suffer heart failure resulting in death.

Heart valve damage inhibits valves from opening or closing. There are two primary types of heart valve disease. Stenosis (obstruction) occurs when a valve opening becomes narrowed, making it difficult do pump blood throughout the body. Regurgitation (insufficiency) is when a valve is prevented from completely closing causing the blood to leak backward instead of flowing forward.

On March 29, 2007, following the increasing evidence of Permax heart valve damage problems, the FDA announced a Permax recall. In light of the recall, the FDA is prompting patients currently taking the drug to discuss alternative treatment options with their doctor and monitor for possible Permax heart valve injury problems. <bio>Steve Fields http://www.injurygroup.com </bio>

Acid reflux or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is a problem that almost everyone experiences at sometime in his or her life. Acid reflux, also known as reflux esophagitis, is an inflammation of the esophagus caused by the regurgitation of the stomach contents. Acid reflux occurs when acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus. Many people experience acid reflux frequently and severely. One out of ten adults experience acid reflux on a daily basis.

Treating acid reflux by medication causes the suppression of stomach acid. Acid reflux medications are promoted as miracle cures for millions of acid reflux sufferers. These drugs are huge moneymakers for the pharmaceutical companies. Prilosec is known as the original `Purple Pill'. It became the top selling prescription drug for senior citizens in the world. Its manufacturer (AstraZeneca) earns six billion a year from sales of the `Purple Pill'.

Once the patent on Prilosec expired, the Drug Company spent five hundred million dollars on a marketing campaign to move their customers to their next expensive `Purple Pill', which is called Nexium. It is hard to watch television without seeing an ad for the the `Purple Pill'.

There have been studies done and experts agree that Nexium was hardly more effective than the original drug, Prilosec. The pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca managed to transfer over forty percent of its Prilosec patients to Nexium.

People must be aware of when a drug is actually needed by your body and when it is just a marketing tool to increase a drug companies profits.

Drugs do not solve the problem of acid reflux they merely mask the problem. However, the drugs are effective. Otherwise, the drug companies would not be making huge profits. Drugs such as Prilosec and Prevacid are what they call "proton pump inhibitors". These drugs dramatically reduce the amount of hydrochloric acid in your stomach. This also reduces an important defense mechanism against food-borne infections and increases the likelihood of food poisoning. If you are not digesting your food properly, you also increase your risk for nearly every other chronic degenerative disease. At Howard Hughes Medical Institute, scientists performed two studies by reducing the amount of stomach acid in lab mice. These studies proved that reducing hydrochloric acid in your stomach could be the wrong thing to do.

In conclusion, if you are an acid reflux sufferer, please consider natural methods to cure your acid reflux symptoms. Methods such as a proper diet are a positive step towards a cure. Nexium and other like drugs are not cures for acid reflux they merely mask the problem. Please consult your Doctor if you feel you have the symptoms of acid reflux. <bio>Thomas D.
There are studies that show Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER), usually referred to as acid reflux is not a unique thing in children of any age. Acid reflux in children and babies are quite common. In fact, over seven million American children have acid reflux. The underdeveloped digestive systems in children make them more susceptible to the disorder. When children reach the age of two, the reflux should be better and may be gone. If you realize that the condition in your child is not gone and is instead getting worse, you need to call your child's doctor.

Describing Acid Reflux in Children

Acid reflux occurs when the stomach contents and the acid that it makes go back up into the esophagus. The acid causes irritation and pain to the esophagus. It may also force the food to come out of the mouth of the child. A child may vomit with force or experience a wet burp that does not come all the way out of the mouth.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux in Children

There are many different symptoms that can present themselves with acid reflux in children. The common symptoms of acid reflux in children are pain, irritability, vomiting or spitting up, sudden crying, colic symptoms, not able to eat, not sleeping right, wet burps and bad breath.

Less known symptoms of acid reflux in children are problems with swallowing, gagging, choking, sore throat, not gaining weight, losing weight, hoarseness, bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, loud breathing, sinus infections, lots of saliva, drooling and neck arching.

Complications of Acid Reflux in Children

Young babies will spit up (regurgitate) a little of the milk you give them; this is common. However, heartburn and esophagitis will make this regurgitation a problem that needs attention. Heartburn is the burning sensation you feel when acid comes from the stomach to the esophagus. Esophagitis is the swelling and reddening of the esophagus because of the acid reflux. It not only hurts; it also makes eating difficult. Bleeding from the esophagus can happen if the condition becomes severe. This will cause poor growing habits, not swallowing right, problems breathing and tooth decay in babies.

Treating Acid Reflux in Children

There are different treatments available for acid reflux in children. Children usually outgrow the acid reflux by one year of age. You will need to learn how to position and feed your baby in order to give him or her relief from the pain. Getting your child in an upright position will let him or her digest food better. Gravity will help to keep things where they are supposed to be. Burping your child more and not feeding your child with foods high in fats will also help. In some cases, acid reflux medication may be needed. In severe cases, a child may need stronger acid reflux medications or surgery. <bio>Find more Helpful Acid Reflux tips, advice Click Here: http://www.acidrefluxhelpcenter.com A Popular website that specializes in tips and resources to include Acid Reflux Children, Acid Reflux Remedy, and [http://www.acidrefluxhelpcenter.com/acid-reflux-in-infants.html] Acid Reflux in Infants </bio>

If you're seriously interested in knowing about sales leads interaction, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about sales leads interaction.

Network marketers are always on the lookout for leads. While it is true that leads are all around, the occasion of finding a qualified lead is like finding a rare gem among the rocks in your yard! You will want to be carefully extracting this lead from the mass of other leads, incorporate it into your marketing network and then make it shine! Yet there are some tips and tricks to observe on how to accomplish. Endless amounts of e-books are being composed almost on a daily basis - all of which revolves around the idea of how to persuade an individual to buy into your company, overcome "no," and press on ahead one objection at a time. Yet there is precious little being said about how not to interact with a qualified network marketing sales lead.

Sure, some training materials will go so far as to advise you to know your material and not try to pull on over on the prospective lead; even as this is valuable advice, it does not give you a cut and dried list of items to avoid. Fortunately, the list of how not to interact with a qualified network marketing sales lead is mercifully short:

1. Stay away from race, color, creed, nationality, and gender. It does not matter if you personally believe that women make better salespeople than men, and that religious folk are more honest in their business dealings than those who do not profess any belief. Such kind of stereotypes are offensive, and even the most qualified lead will not want to be caught up doing business with someone she or he perceives to be a bigot.

2. The failure to present the company information from an angle that is markedly different than the one used in the marketing brochures will lead to a tepid regurgitation of printed facts, and thus to an insult of the lead's intelligence.

3. As you are spending time with the person, do not answer the cell phone. Sure, it might be a potential customer calling, but unless you make the lead feel like she or he is the most important person in your universe right then and there, this feeling of trust will not be there when the time comes to become integrated in a big down line.

4. Do not flaunt your wealth. While you want to dress nice, this is not the time to point to your Cartier watch or Armani suit. Instead, it is the time to discreetly show what the business can do for a dedicated person without actually calling any overt attention to it.

5. Do not come across as though you are unsuccessful. Cut off jeans, sneakers with holes, unwashed hair, and a free ball point pen from a hotel are not confidence inspiring to a person who is thinking of signing on as your network marketing sales lead. If you are a business person, entrepreneur, or sales agent, you need to dress the part. Clothes make the man (or woman).

If your sales leads interaction facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don't let important sales leads interaction information slip by you.

When word gets around about your command of sales leads interaction facts, others who need to know about sales leads interaction will start to actively seek you out.

Copyright =A9 Le Tuan Anh <bio>To find the best home based business ideas and opportunities so you can work at home visit: http://www.YourTurnkeyProfits.com </bio>

Heartburn, as most people know, isn't really your heart catching fire, its just that the pain comes from that area. This pain is caused by a condition known as acid reflux, where liquid from your stomach goes in the wrong direction, moving up the oesophagus, or refluxing. As this acid attacks the tissue in your oesophagus (your throat in other words) it causes a great deal of pain and this pain often feels like it's coming directly from your heart. Some people have mistaken severe attacks of acid reflux as actual heart attacks.

Small amounts of this happen with everyone, and most people will have experienced the foul taste of vomit in the mouth when you're not actually being sick. However, with severe acid reflux, known to scientists as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder, or GERD, acid stays in the throat for longer, causing much more pain.

During the day, acid reflux happens frequently in tiny amounts, as your stomach churns around digesting food. Unless you eat lying down, this generally isn't a problem, as the acid drains straight back to the stomach, and the next time you swallow, saliva neutralises and flushes out any remaining acid.

It's at night while you are sleeping that acid reflux can cause real problems. Fluid will find it much harder to drain out while you're lying flat, and this is combined with the reduction of saliva production and swallowing. It's also the time when you want to sleep; the last thing you want is to be rudely awaken to a mouth full of acid.

While anyone can suffer from acid reflux, certain groups are far more prone to it. The high hormone levels associated with pregnancy can trigger severe bouts of GERD, as the lower the pressure in the stomach and allow the valve joining the oesophagus and the stomach to relax, allowing acid to move upwards. This is made worse by the baby pushing the stomach upwards, therefore forcing some of the fluid out.

Minor acid reflux will lead to minor symptoms like heartburn, regurgitation of food and perhaps nausea. If it's more severe, then logic says that so will the symptoms be more severe. Acid can damage the oesophageal lining, and the body will respond by swelling the lining to get a better blood supply and aid the healing. An ulcer can often form, and bleeding may occur. When this happens, blood transfusions or surgery may be necessary. If you suspect your acid reflux is severe then you should see a doctor immediately.

Several steps can be taken to reduce the effects of acid reflux. Sleeping with a pillow that tilts your head forward slightly can aid drainage back to the stomach, and trying to eat less but more often will prevent your stomach from overflowing, which is often a cause of acid reflux. Don't go all out, but try cutting back on spicy or acidic foods like citrus fruit or fizzy drinks, and reduce consumption of chocolate, peppermint, alcohol and consider stopping smoking.

Experiment and see what works, its different for everyone so find something that works for you. <bio>If you're sick and tired of heartburn and acid refluxing into your mouth then it's time to take action.
