One thing that is coming up more than ever is the condition called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Some were aware of it before this became the common name and remember it as shell shock. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder suffered by rising numbers of people today.

It starts with events that are so traumatic for those suffering, that they can't deal with it all at once, and shouldn't be expected too. In wars, many soldiers experience horrors that were extremely beyond anything they could ever prepare for. This has been a strongly noticed issue on the rise since the many soldiers returned home from the Vietnam War.

It's definitely not solely experienced by soldiers either, rather many have experienced post traumatic stress disorder from acts of violence around crime scenes, devastating losses, repeated abuses beyond imagination, and yet many more situations. The key factor often being the result is severely traumatizing to them.

The Many Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Whatever the cause, untreated, those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder stand to deal with many side effects including sleep trouble, anxiety, depression, flashbacks, and even blackouts when these occur. While they came back, the issues of their trauma are still buried deep in their mind in full force. Often under lock and key to dwell on, or seemingly forget; though unlike other matters of life it's far from forgotten. Hidden are vivid details and in this state it will simply show many other symptoms throughout everyday life.

One of the more extreme side effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is another disorder called Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), in which studies indicate all cases have PTSD as well. Split personalities seem to be one of the ways the human mind can deal with the trauma hidden back in.

How to Deal With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder It's very unlikely that any individual can deal entirely with their own Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; however they will indeed need to be the major player in it. Professional Counseling is a good start for those believing they have PTSD.

First will be the diagnosis which will determine if Post Traumatic Stress Disorder exists in their case. This can be tricky at times though the steps professionals use become more refined from experience and studies. With a positive diagnosis treatment can begin.

Treatment can be a mix of counseling, support group, and quite possibly treatment for a number of other conditions that may be found. These may include anxiety, depression, insomnia, and more. For the patient, it's important to try to keep up with it all.

One thing that will definitely be necessary when treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is unraveling the layers of emotional feelings, fears and other things that may have long been hidden and attempted forgotten. Learning to deal with these feelings and fears is the most important thing. Being able to find someone they can open up to about them and get the word out of their head will indeed bring long-term progress

In The End Hopefully this article has informed you of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. If you believe you or someone you know has this disorder, it would be very wise to find out. Hopefully not, though those that do, need help to get past their trauma. Once past it there is a lot of hope for a better life. <bio>For help with managing your stress, go to http://loweryourstress.com/stress-management.html </bio>

It has been estimated that 30% of Vietnam war veterans, 10% Gulf war veterans, 6% to 11% Afghanistan war veterans and 12% to 20% of veterans of the Iraq war have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress disorder. This is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to one or more terrifying events.

The history of PTSD date back to the early 1800's where military doctors began diagnosing soldiers with "exhaustion" following the stress of battle. This "exhaustion" was characterized by mental shutdown due to individual or group trauma. Around this time there was a syndrome in England called 'railway spine' or 'railway hysteria which bares a resemblance to what we call PTSD today. This was found by people who had been in the catastrophic railway accidents of that time.

In World War I and II the term 'shell shock' and combat fatigue' were terms to describe veterans who exhibited stress and anxiety after being in combat. The official designation of "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" did not come about until 1980 when the Third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) was published.

This anxiety disorder occurs when you are afraid and your body activates the fight or flight response. This reaction to fight releases adrenaline, which is responsible for increasing your blood pressure and heart rate as well as increasing glucose to muscles (to allow you to run away quickly in the face of immediate danger). However when this danger has gone your body begins to go through a process that shuts down the stress response and this process involves the release of another hormone known as cortisol. If your body doesn't generate enough cortisol to shut down the stress reaction you may continue to feel the effects of adrenaline. Trauma victims who develop post-traumatic stress disorder often have higher levels of other stimulating hormones (catecholamines) under normal conditions in which the threat of trauma is not present. These same hormones kick in when they are reminded of their trauma.

Military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a very serious disorder with symptoms such as self harm, anger, violence and drug addiction as well as depression. All of these are common symptoms of Military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and sadly affects thousands of soldiers every year who have serviced in the armed forces. Treating Military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is done through psychotherapy and basic counselling but can take a lot of time and patience.

Sadly a number of people who are experiencing and suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as 'war trauma', is said to hugely increase in the next few years due to the number of soldiers who are fighting in areas such as Helmand and Basra. There are concerns that the Iraq war is producing more cases of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder than any other conflict in decades, one of the main reasons for this is that the violence has been so widespread and exposure to it so constant over long periods of time. The suicide bombers, roadside mines and the constant threat of attack within the Iraq war poses a unique challenge to the mental health of the soldiers who are serving in it.

If you are one of those suffering and are thinking of claiming compensation for you suffering then you should do so right away. It is your civil and legal right to claim compensation for injuries psychological and mental. No-one should suffer in silence.<bio>Carolyn is the webmaster of Accident Consult Ltd, specialists in Claiming compensation for PTSD.</bio>

People who encounter the term "irritable bowel syndrome" are often confused as to what that illness is. Many wonder about the various symptoms associated with the term. What is irritable bowel syndrome? In order to properly understand this illness, a person should learn about these factors:

1) Symptoms =96 These are the common manifestations of irritable bowel syndrome in human beings. In a sense, the symptoms tell what irritable bowel syndrome is by telling you how it affects your body. In the past, it was actually quite difficult to answer the question of "what is irritable bowel syndrome?" by looking at the symptoms.

You see, irritable bowel syndrome is not really a disease. It is a "syndrome" mainly because it is a group of symptoms.

This is because of the fact that some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome contradict each other. For instance, some people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome experience diarrhea while some people experience constipation.

2) Causes =96 As said before, irritable bowel syndrome is not a disease. It is actually a disorder. It is important to know this in order to understand what irritable bowel syndrome is. Many people misunderstand irritable bowel syndrome because they do not really understand its causes. Some people may think that irritable bowel syndrome is caused by eating some sort of food that does not agree with one's digestion. Others may think that irritable bowel syndrome is caused by a virus or bacteria of some sort.

However, one thing you need to understand about irritable bowel syndrome is the fact that it is not really "caused" by anything. Irritable bowel syndrome is a state in which your bowels do not function properly. This condition then leads to the various symptoms that people experience.

3) Triggers =96 In order to truly know what irritable bowel syndrome is, people should be able to understand the different things that trigger its symptoms. There are two main triggers of irritable bowel syndrome:

a) Stress =96 Studies have shown that stress can have a huge impact on the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. In fact, the stress caused by knowing that a person has irritable bowel syndrome can trigger that person's symptoms. This is the reason why counseling is part of the treatment for irritable bowel syndrome.

This is also the reason why people today turn to alternative therapies for their treatment. Some people take up yoga or go through the process of acupuncture to help them relieve stress.

b) Food =96 Eating the wrong type of food can definitely trigger the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Foods that have a high fat content should be avoided by people with IBS. Alcohol should also be avoided as it is a known trigger of the symptoms of IBS.

c) Treatments- Knowing what irritable bowel disease is also involves knowing about the various treatments that are used to relieve the symptoms of it. There are various drugs that are in use today to help stop one or more of its symptoms. However, since irritable bowel syndrome is not a disease, it is also incurable.

What a person suffering from this illness can do is to try and keep the symptoms at bay by using different treatments like specialized diets and relaxation techniques.

By keeping these various factors in mind, a person can answer the question of "what is irritable bowel syndrome?" <bio>Janet Rusky is a health freak and as an ex IBS sufferer offers her hints and tips to manage this discomfort on her website. http://irritable-bowel-syndrome.nichetray.com </bio>

During World War Two, a strange phenomenon called "Battle Fatigue" affected many veterans after they returned home from combat zones in Europe and the Pacific. Today, we know this condition to be "post traumatic stress disorder". Back then, returning veterans didn't talk about it, because discussing these worrisome symptoms suggested weakness or cowardice.

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a medical disorder that can occur to anyone after experiencing an extremely stressful situation. Soldiers aren't the only ones to suffer from this condition. Natural disaster survivors, as well as those who have experienced and survived attacks and accidents, also suffer from post traumatic stress disorder. More than 5 million adults are affected by this disorder every year. Twice as many women are affected than men. Post traumatic stress disorder wasn't even understood until the 1970's. Many sufferers were diagnosed as having stress or battle fatigue, given medication and sent home. After the recent involvement of the United States military personnel in the Middle East and Iraq, the condition has grown more common.

A victim may experience one of many symptoms: A flashback or nightmare. Reaction to situations or events that trigger a powerful emotional or physical response. A feeling of detachment, loss of interest in activities or a lack of positive emotion. Avoidance of anything (activities, people or situations) associated with the trauma. Difficulty sleeping, irritability and exaggerated responses to being startled.

Many people exhibit roller coaster feelings or emotions after a traumatic experience, but for most, such symptoms normally fade after a few weeks. Nevertheless, recognizing the early signs and symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder is important, as it can incur long-lasting consequences for those who suffer from it. Physiological changes that occur in victims have a brutal affect on both neurobiological functions such as memory, as well as fear-response reactions. Seeping habits and the ability to deal with any stress can be disrupted. Physical complaints can range from headaches, to immune system disruption, debilitating pain, and in some cases, asthma.

Depression and a sense of growing anxiety can lead to phobias, panic attacks and behavioral changes. If you feel that someone you know is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, it's extremely important that he or she get help. It will not go away by itself. Anyone who has been diagnosed and is trying to recover needs the help of family, friends and medical personnel to combat this invisible, yet dehabilitating condition. Post traumatic stress disorder is not in the victim's head, and should be taken very seriously. <bio>Linda Woods is a freelance writer and radio talk show host with a focus on healing, self-help and empowerment.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition that makes the stomach feel like a butter churn. It includes some pretty heavy symptoms that are not attractive to talk about. Though the pain that is caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome is relatively small, there are some major question marks surrounding the treatment of the condition. Doctors still don't have a firm hook on how to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome and they make this known by giving out different treatments to each different patient that they see. Despite expensive research, doctors still aren't quite sure how to fix your bowel situation. Maybe they should see a plumber.

One thing is for certain in regards to Irritable Bowel Syndrome, though. It can be caused by, among other things, a lot of stress and tension in the middle abdominal area. Those people who go through stress each and every day at their job or in school are more likely to pick up Irritable Bowel Syndrome than those folks who live relaxed lives. Everybody experiences some stress, though. In the end, it comes down to how well the stress is managed. If you don't manage it well, then Irritable Bowel Syndrome can manifest itself within your stomach. In that case, settle in and get ready for a few adventurous weeks. If you aren't content with just riding it out, then you might want to think about hypnosis as a possible treatment.

You didn't know that hypnosis can treat things like Irritable Bowel Syndrome? You thought that hypnosis was something that you only saw in magic shows? You didn't know hypnosis was an actually recognized type of treatment for a laundry list of conditions? If that's the case, then you better get with the times. In recent years, more and more professionals are recommending their clients to hypnotherapists. Hypnotherapists offer a real solution to problems that occur in everyday life. Some of these problems are mental and some (like Irritable Bowel Syndrome) are physical. Whatever the case, hypnosis can help out.

Hypnosis helps with Irritable Bowel Syndrome by working to release the tension within the stomach muscles. Then those muscles relax, more blood can be pumped into the stomach area. As more blood makes its way into the stomach, more oxygen and other good cells can make their way to the Irritable Bowel Syndrome and end it. If you need help with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, then grab some information on hypnosis. It could be just what you were looking for. <bio>For more on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and hypnosis, please visit Richard's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/ibs-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/ibs.htm </bio>

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is no fun for those folks who have to live through it. When your stomach is rocking and there is no clear end in sight, you hope that the sun doesn't come up tomorrow. Though Irritable Bowel Syndrome is really just more of a nuisance than anything else, it has raised some interesting questions about the medical field in recent months. Lots of patients are starting to think that their doctors know absolutely nothing about Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Some patients have even reported that their doctors are prescribing high fiber diets to counter Irritable Bowel Syndrome. There couldn't be a worse idea, as fiber irritates the bowels even more. What are folks to do when they can't get their stomach under control? They might consider a treatment that many people never think of.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is caused by a lot of stress in a person's life. Though there are other causes to go along with it, stress is the primary reason why people experience Irritable Bowel Syndrome. As people get stressed out, their insides end up feeling tangled. Tense muscles constrict blood flow and nothing gets done when blood flow gets restricted. That's one reason why it is important to keep a stress free life. You want to avoid having to go through the aggravation of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

One method for treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome is something that you might not think of everyday. Hypnosis can be a good treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Hypnosis is often overlooked by people when they think about good treatments for everyday problems. This is unfortunate, too, as hypnosis can cure a whole bunch of ills. Everything from smoking to gambling to Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be helped by a good hypnotherapist. In this generation, hypnosis isn't just a sideshow act. It's a living, breathing solution for big time problems.

How can it help fight against Irritable Bowel Syndrome? It will help to relax the body's functions, including the stomach area which can become tense. As the stomach becomes relaxes, blood will once again return to its normal rate of flow in the area. That brings oxygen and white blood cells that are ready to attack Irritable Bowel Syndrome with all of their worth. In my time as a practicing hypnotherapist, I have seen people make a full recovery from Irritable Bowel Syndrome after only a couple of tries with hypnosis. If you need help with this problem or others, check out hypnosis and see if it's right for you. <bio>For more on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and hypnosis, please visit Richard's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/ibs-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/ibs.htm </bio>

Though it's not life threatening or a largely serious medical issue, it does cause a constant worry for lots of people. The biggest issue for most folks who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome is over how to treat the condition. Doctors, for all their education and knowledge, still haven't come up with some sort of protocol for treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Depending upon which doctor you choose, you could get any number of different treatment options. Some doctors are even prescribing a high fiber diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is clearly known to make the problem worse.

If doctors can't help you get it fixed, then where do you go? There are quite a few options for people who struggle everyday with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The main concern of these folks is to eliminate their stress levels, which are known to cause more stomach problems in addition to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The stomach as a whole is a stress sensitive area, as many of the basic problems associated with stomachs are due to stress. In order to eliminate some of the tension that contributes to Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a person must make sure that they try out hypnosis.

Hypnosis can calm down the stomach muscles and relax the body, which has a positive impact on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. When the stomach becomes more relaxed, added blood flows to the stomach and Irritable Bowel Syndrome begins to go away. Though this might not completely eliminate the problem right away, it will help to slowly increase the blood flow and decrease the level of irritation.

Many people don't even think about hypnosis when they consider fixing a problem like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but they certainly should. In my time as a hypnotherapist, the numbers have supported the claim that hypnosis can help cure different conditions like these. Hypnosis is not just that trick that you saw in a magic show. It isn't just something that you make fun of in the movies. When people have no where else to turn, hypnosis can help them drop the problem that has had such a grasp on their life. Like with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, hypnosis can have a positive impact on a bunch of other problems. Anything that be fixed by a change in thinking or some relaxation is fair game for hypnosis. <bio>For more on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and hypnosis, please visit Richard's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/ibs-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/ibs.htm </bio>

What Causes <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/post+traumatic+syndrome" rel="tag">Post Traumatic Syndrome On

We all feel that the world is stable and secure, that sudden change and loss will not happen, at least not to those or us we know. When the world as we know it suddenly changes and the impossible happens, not only can we experience shock and trauma, but our normal anchors can disappear. Confusion arises, numbness and sometimes a sense of helplessness.

We may fear for our continuing safety and the safety of those we love, and not know where to turn for a sense of true stability. At this juncture issues we may not have faced or dealt with arise strongly.

What Happens In Post Traumatic Syndrome

It takes time to absorb sudden changes and individuals react in different ways. For some the need arises, to maintain stability at all costs. They may go into denial, and seem to not register what's going on. These individuals go on with their lives as though nothing has changed. However, they are unconsciously processing what has happened, taking time to absorb it all. By pretending that nothing has changed they are simply doing their best to maintain the semblance of normalcy. At this point they ear that they will be overwhelmed if they allow themselves to feel anything at all. When the individual feels more able to deal with his feelings, or when the danger has passed and they feel safer, the buried feelings begin to come up.

Post traumatic syndrome simply means that the feelings a person has repressed during trauma are now arising. These feelings have been caused by the trauma and arise when the person feels able to tolerate their fear, grief, anger, pain and helplessness. Some are able to do it sooner, for others it can even take years. The feelings may hit at any moment and when they do the person may not understand what is happening. Seemingly out of the blue a person can start shaking, crying, or going into rage. Anything can tick it off, even something seemingly unrelated. But, it is the reaction to the original trauma that is now being released.

How To Handle Post Traumatic Syndrome

A) Understand What Is Happening =96 It Is Normal

It helps a great deal, first of all, to understand what is going on. Some people become terrified that they are going crazy, or losing control. Just realizing that it is perfectly normal for these feelings to be discharged will help a great deal. Do not fear your feelings, you are simply finally reacting to the shock you've been through.

B) Do Not Be Ashamed =96 Do Not Resist Feelings

Allow yourself to feel what is going on, breathe deeply through the feelings, and allow them to pass. Let go. Do not try to control the feelings. They are only energy that is now being released. These feelings are simply a response to what you have been through; they do not mean that something is wrong with you. When they arise be gentle with yourself, kind and patient. When these feelings are not resisted, they pass more easily.

C) Express Love, Warmth and Solidarity

It helps to be with those you love and care for. Friendship, bonding and love are wonderful antidotes for the feeling of meaningless and danger. Hug each other, express your love, know that although part of the world has crumbled, a great deal of good remains. There is stability in the love you can now share with others. Don't hold back.

D) Do What You Can To Help

Reach out to others in anyway you can. Make a call to a loved one, write a note, go to lunch with a friend. Take some time to be quiet or go to a place you love in nature. Allow yourself to absorb both your feelings and the events that are going on.

E) Prayer, Silence And Meditation

Of course, the deepest sense of security and stability comes from one's connection to a Higher Power, or one's Higher Self. This is an important time to connect with that which is ultimately meaningful to you. Spend time in prayer, silence, contemplation or meditation; know that you are looked after and that there is a larger purpose in all that goes on.

Cc/author/2007 <bio>Learn how to turn a time of crisis into one of opportunity.
Premenstrual Syndrome is the chronic disease that makes the women worried. Premenstrual severity symptoms occur a week or two before a woman's monthly periods or the ovulation. While these symptoms usually disappear after the period starts, PMS or Premenstrual Syndrome often interferes with the women's normal activities at home or work. At this stage women beg for the medication of how to relief Premenstrual cramps

Despite ongoing studies, the causes of Premenstrual Syndrome are not yet clear. Of course, some women may be more sensitive than others to changing hormone levels during the menstrual cycle. While some believe that stress does not seem to cause Premenstrual Syndrome, it could make it worse. Studies have revealed that Premenstrual Syndrome can affect menstruating women of any age and that Premenstrual Syndrome can affect menstruating women of any age and that Premenstrual Syndrome often includes both physical and emotional symptoms like fatigue, irritation, lack of memory and even food carving.

Massive number of women experience mild Premenstrual Syndrome, but for about 20 percent, the symptoms can be severe. These symptoms define Premenstrual Syndrome and can interfere with daily activities and relationships. They need really good care for the severe PMS relief.

At last, there's hope for millions of women suffering from Premenstrual Syndrome. Researchers have found that a regular intake of calcium may reduce premenstrual syndrome be as much as 60 per cent. Calcium supplements and Vitamin D, which aid the absorption of calcium, are believed to reduce the occurrence and severity of Premenstrual Syndrome. Now, the latest on the Premenstrual Syndrome front is that a diet rich in calcium appears to reduce the risk of developing Premenstrual Syndrome by as much as 40 per cent.

The largest result was seen in women who consumed about 1,200 mgs of Calcium and 500 IU of vitamin D per day. It has been found that the women who consumed four servings per day of skin or low-fat milk, fortified orange juice and low fat dairy foods, had approximately a 40 per cent lower risk of being diagnosed with Premenstrual Syndrome, than women who only consumed these foods about once per week.

Levels of calcium and vitamin D fluctuate across the menstrual cycle, and this might define women with and without Premenstrual Syndrome. The findings should encourage them to eat more foods rich in calcium and vitamin D. What's more, these nutrients and the PMS Vitamin Supplements have also been associated with other health benefits, such as the reduced of osteoporosis and some cancers. <bio>Looking for http://www.zenstralPMS.com Natural Remedies for Severe PMS?Look no further, have a look at How to http://www.universitylabtechnologies.net relieve menstrual cramps. </bio>

Bad eating habits can lead to IBS syndrome but however the main culprit is stress that seems to be related to many aspects of a person's health.

Irritable bowel syndrome has many symptoms, including back pain and bowel dysfunction. A bowel dysfunction would mean that a person will experience a number of difficulties (uncertainties) during the eradication of stool; one might see and experience a number of changes in his stool. e.g. the color of the stool, liquidation of the stool, the amount of stool that is eliminated is comparatively less. All these signs are some indications of a person having IBS. However you can get treated for this discomforting problem. If you realize that you are a victim of IBS visit one of the doctors and it will be just fine. You will be tested, once this is conducted you will be able to know that are you or are you not affected by IBS. If at all you are victim then you will be given normal advice as to what food you should have, the timing schedule of having food, eating of healthy food and so on. All this hygienic eating habits can help you overcome IBS to a certain extent. But however you will be advised on one more thing that has to be taken care of that is your stress. Wondering what your stressed mind has to do with your IBS problem. Then you need to know a simple point, a brain is connected to all the parts of the body and if it has any problems such as stress than this will not help your cause as this will act be the whetstone to physical ailment. In case of IBS your colon (large intestine) is affected. Your stressful mind plays truant your nervous system is affected. So any harm created with your stress adds to the problems of intestine.

So before treating any other problem your mind has to be taken care of. So now that you know that first you have to get your mind treated of stress you should look for something that has proved its worth in the past. Hypnosis looks to be the only possible solution regarding mind, as it treats your mind of any phobias, addictions, anxiety or stress. This treatment is available in the form of mp3 which can be downloaded straight from the Internet. Once you have done this you can start using it right away. That to at the comfort of your home, in this mp3 content you will be able to hypnotize yourself.
Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS as is it commonly called is a very common disorder that affects at least 15% of the general population. This disease is sometimes called spastic colitis, nervous stomach, spastic colon or mucous colitis. Irritable bowel syndrome should not be mistaken for other diseases of the bowel such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder which means that there is an abnormality in the functioning of the bowels but no structural abnormalities are present.

What causes IBS?

IBS symptoms seem to occur as a result of an abnormality of communication between the muscles of the bowel and the nervous system. This may result in the bowel becoming more sensitive or "irritated". The muscles which are located in the bowel wall may contract either too weakly or too forcefully, too rapidly or too slowly at certain times. There is no physical obstruction in the bowel, yet a patient may experience cramps or a functional blockage.

What role does stress play in IBS?

Stress does not cause IBS. It is not a psychiatric or a psychological disorder. However, one contributor to IBS is emotional stress. When a person becomes nervous or anxious, he or she may experience diarrhea or nausea. It may be impossible to control stress's effect on our intestines, but if we are able to reduce the sources of stress in our daily lives, then this may help to reduce or alleviate the symptoms of IBS.

Is this IBS or something else?

You must have a comprehensive physical examination and medical history by a physician or a specialized colon and rectal surgeon in order to eliminate more serious disorders. You may have to have certain tests such as stool tests, blood tests, perhaps a colonoscopy and x-ray studies done. Fever, rectal bleeding, anemia, and unexplained weight loss are not symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and need to be assessed by your physician.

How is IBS treated?

If the patient understands that IBS is not a life-threatening or a serious condition, this may help to relieve stress and anxiety which are often contributors to IBS.
IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is characterized by abdominal pain. Other symptoms include cramping, gas, diarrhea, constipation or bloating. Irritable bowel syndrome affects the colon or the large bowel. Irritable bowel syndrome is not a disease but a functional disorder. Irritable bowel syndrome means that the bowel is not functionally properly or correctly. The cause of Irritable bowel syndrome is still a mystery; doctors are not able to give a proper answer for the cause of Irritable bowel syndrome. Those affected have sensitive nerves and muscles in their bowel, i.e., muscles that contract too much when eating. Such contractions cause diarrhea and cramping after a meal or during meal. The reason for cramping or pain is that the nerves may react while the bowel is stretching. Irritable bowel syndrome is very painful but not dangerous for other organs or does not lead to more health problems.

Chronic diarrhea or constipation, mucus, which is in white color in your stool, swollen abdomen or an uneasy feeling in your stomach are symptoms. Women with Irritable bowel syndrome suffer more symptoms during their menstrual periods.

Doctor may find that you have Irritable bowel syndrome due to its symptoms. The most specific of Irritable bowel syndrome is a Rome criterion that is widely used for diagnosis of Irritable bowel syndrome. The best ways to diagnosis is undergoing medical tests after every six months. The medical tests you need to undergo for Irritable Bowel Syndrome are Lower gastrointestinal (GI) series and Colonoscopy. In lower gastrointestinal (GI) series, x-rays are you to diagnose the problem. Where as in colonoscopy the doctor inserts a long thin tube with a camera into your colon. Doctors can view inside the colon with the help of the camera on the screen.

Treatment means a proper diet, taking medicines on time, taking less stress. Diet for Irritable bowel syndrome do not include fatty foods, French fries is the enemy. Ice cream, cheese, chocolate, alcohol, soft drinks, coffee are allies making Irritable bowel syndrome worse. Your diet must be according to the food pyramid. Apples and peaches are favorable to Irritable bowel syndrome. Vegetables like broccoli and cabbage are also good. Intake of cereals and beans like kidney beans and lima beans help to take care of Irritable bowel syndrome. Doctors suggest taking fibre pills or drinking water with high-fiber powder. Eating small meals for Irritable bowel syndrome is helpful. Medicines suggested by doctors should be taken on time for Irritable bowel syndrome. Keeping you busy with less stressful work like your hobbies help Irritable bowel syndrome to be away from you to some extent.

The method of hypnosis is also used for the treatment of Irritable bowel syndrome. Particularly in the last few decades, research on the human body, its diseases and treatments has received enormous focus all across the world. However one aspect that has been relatively ignored by modern medical science is the relationship of mind and body. There are a lot of disorders that are created by mind-body imbalance, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome seems to fall into this category. As you look for the information Irritable Bowel Syndrome articles and books provide, you would generally find them talking at length about its relationship with diet, and less so about the disorder's link with the mental state of the patient.

With the popularity of alternative healing practices such as Reiki, Yoga, hypnotherapy and Acupuncture, the world is waking up to the importance of the mind-body connection in maintaining good health. This is one fact that has not yet been given adequate importance in traditional medical science. However numerous patients across the world have experienced recovery from various diseases by using techniques that help restore the balance between mind and body.

Although some doctors believe that IBS is only the result of abnormal food habits, or a hypersensitivity to the bowel motor functions, this view has been challenged by many. They state that IBS is often found in individuals who have a tendency to be over anxious. General anxiety disorder (GAD), that is fairly common today, has been found to have a deep relationship with IBS.

In fact in a study carried out at the Medical University of South Carolina, anything between 50% and 90% of the people who visit their doctors about treatment for irritable bowel syndrome also have psychological disorders, including GAD, social anxiety, post traumatic stress and panic disorder.

Also, a study showed that when a group of people where given arithmetic problems to solve, a greater number of those with IBS showed distinctive brain wave patterns, relating to how they cope with psychological stress.

Other studies have also shown that those with IBS seem to also have a lower pain tolerance to perceived abdominal pain, often reporting excessive discomfort during procedures like a barium enema or colonoscopy.

Although the cause of IBS is not known, there is progress being made in its treatments, and there are a number of steps a person can take to help him or her self as well as following their doctor's advice.

Continue reading to discover how you can sign up for the free relieving IBS newsletter, and find out natural methods to help you relieve IBS symptoms.

One of the first things to understand about IBS is that it is a condition that will need to be managed throughout life, but it is not a condition that defines a person, nor one that leaves a physical impact on the body.

There are likely to be for each person certain foods that trigger the symptoms more than others and these need to be identified and avoided. A good way is by creating a food diary to monitor what is being eaten, when it is being eaten, how often and how large the portions where, and what effects, if any the food has on the body.

Also, dependent upon the type of IBS, often increasing the intake of water and fiber can help considerably.

If you want more information Irritable Bowel Syndrome sites like ours can give you insight into the natural methods you can use to control symptoms. <bio>Sign up for the free Irritable Bowel Syndrome Newsletter and discover new and natural methods to manage your IBS symptoms http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com?source=is </bio>

You are sitting down with your date after a dinner out and instead of wanting to get to know her better; you want to scream from the battery acid strength liquid that is reversing its flow of direction and coming up into your esophagus. This may be heartburn or you may have acid reflux syndrome. So, how do you tell? Well, an occasional case of heartburn is far different from acid reflux syndrome in many ways. Just by its name acid reflux syndrome, a syndrome is a collection of various related symptoms. Therefore, heartburn is just one burning sensation that comes and goes occasionally, we have all probably had that.

However, acid reflux syndrome is a multititude of various symptoms that can lead to esophageal cancer if left untreated or not treated sufficiently.

Acid reflux syndrome is a very serious condition that has several serious symptoms that can cause a lifetime of problems. The main symptom of acid reflux syndrome that everyone knows about is the heartburn sensation. This is why acid reflux syndrome is confused with regular heartburn. However, there are additional symptoms that do not come with regular heartburn. Some of the symptoms of acid reflux syndrome either are regurgitation of stomach acid into just the esophagus or all the way up into your mouth. There is a horrible sour taste and you may even taste solid partially digested food. Another symptom of acid reflux syndrome is waking up at night with this painful burning sensation. Some people have found that eating settles it down for a while, but not always and not for long.

In addition, asthmatics may confuse the coughing, that can occur mostly at night with the symptoms of acid reflux syndrome.

It also may happen the other way around for them. Untreated asthmatic coughing may in turn stir up the stomach acid and bring it up to the mouth in full force. Nausea and vomiting are two other symptoms of acid reflux syndrome.

The prognosis of acid reflux syndrome is not good, especially if left untreated. If left untreated, acid reflux syndrome can eat away at the lower esophagus and lead to the development of precancerous and even cancerous cell growths. Esophageal cancer is among the fastest growing cancers. This year alone over 4,000 people with get Esophageal Cancer because of acid reflux syndrome, only 16% of them will survive. That means that this year alone over 3,000 people will die from acid reflux syndrome related esophageal cancer.

The above statistics show how important it is to treat acid reflux syndrome. Because it cannot be stressed enough that acid reflux syndrome, if left untreated not only will become a lifelong problem, costing you thousands of dollars worth of doctor's bills and medical expenses, but acid reflux syndrome, left untreated may cost you your very life. <bio>T.
Chronic stress is vulnerable to the brain and could result in severe lack of focus. Hence the tendency of patients of chronic stress becoming less and less efficient and even susceptible to accident while on the job. Chronic stress on children has been proven to deter their ability to retain things in their memory.

Apart from the fact that aged people easily loose their memory, memory loss can occur in patient with chronic stress. Studies have proven this that those who, in a certain research process, were given cortisone pills, which is a major stress hormone, had problems with their memory. Prolonged stress often results in severe cases by loss of memory. This is because a prolonged chronic stress condition which exposes the patient to cortisone for a long period, can cause emaciation on the center of memory referred to as the hippocampus. Common occurrence of this condition is in those experiencing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), such as a traumatic events or sex assault.

Increased cortisone level in the body is highly responsible for memory lost. A research conducted, shows that aged people have higher cortisone levels hence the memory loss in them. Situation of memory loss can be changed if only cortisone levels can be reduced to the required levels, because cortisone is a vital hormone in the human system.

Stress, according to researchers can also be reduced if one has enough social and family support. There are, according to studies, high levels of cortisone found in aged people who have less family and social support. Hence they are prone to occurrence of memory loss. Stress could actually be reduced to minimal if a patient can get support in time of serious needs.

Each time you try to remember vital issue or try to recall what you just stored in your brain or an event that transpired during the day without success, then you should know you are stressed up and will need to undergo a program and various forms of counseling that will enable you reduce stress and restore your memory's ability to retain and recall happenings and events as often as you wish. <bio>The Author, Salihu Ibrahim has written many articles on health matters.
It is not uncommon to experience difficulties with sleeping every once in a while; but, it is only when the problem persists for a considerable period of time that it may be considered to be a sleep disorder.

When it is caused by anxiety, the problem may not be quite so simple to cure as you might have expected because anxiety sleep disorder can range from mild to very severe which can keep you from getting any sleep at all. Among the different kinds of anxiety sleep disorder, you will find one that is especially nerve wrecking and that is when you get panic disorders.

Panic Disorders

Panic disorder is a severe instance of anxiety in which the sufferer will feel that something terrible is going to happen and it is also something that can strike without giving any warning. Also, the condition is particularly devastating at night when it may even require the sufferer to be hospitalized because of its intensity, and it is in such situations, really an extreme case of anxiety sleep disorder.

Another type of anxiety sleep disorder that a person can suffer from is the one that is called post traumatic stress syndrome in which a person will feel very anxious after having had a traumatic event such as an accident, rape or even terrorist acts. Such events come to haunt the person especially in the nighttime when the person becomes most fearful and will thus have difficulty in getting any sleep.

There is also another type of anxiety sleep disorder which is the one known as obsessive-compulsive disorder in which the sufferer is obsessed with thinking about rituals that are quite uncontrollable and which persist even though the person knows that these thoughts are quite senseless. It is an instance of anxiety sleep disorder which can be attributed to feeling fear and thus a person will not get to sleep because he or she is in dread of experiencing nightmares, while it can even be due to depression turning into anxiety much as can other mental disorders.

To be able to deal with an anxiety sleep disorder, one may need to take certain steps including practicing good sleep hygiene and even attempting self hypnosis. While a hot bath before turning in for the night is also recommended though it should not be a shower that can prove to be a bit too stimulating and which could thus keep you from falling asleep. Another option available to anyone suffering from anxiety sleep disorder is to listen to soothing music while in bed and even meditation and some yoga movements can help in treating the problem. http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com/ <bio>http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com/ </bio>

The cause of IBS is still not fully understood, and it is not easy to diagnose. So, if you have an irritable bowel, treat it by initially gaining a full understanding of how the symptoms specifically effect you. This will help with any later diagnosis. Here are some things to consider about IBS.

One thing that is known is that about 80% of those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome also suffer from a general anxiety disorder (GAD) like stress, depression or anxiety. It is not known whether these issues cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome or this disorder causes these issues. Nevertheless, stress and other emotional issues can definitely make symptoms worse.

Unfortunately, the progression of Irritable Bowel Syndrome has not been fully studied. However, research does show that certain people are more prone to this disorder than others. Approximately 80% of the estimated 35 million Americans who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome are women. Often the hormonal changes in women can trigger the symptoms, but again this cannot explain the condition as it is shared with men.

One important way to identify food that may trigger an IBS episode is to keep a food and symptoms diary so that a doctor can see what is setting off your symptoms. When this is done, the majority of people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome have been able to identify what foods and conditions lead to their symptoms. Often, by avoiding these foods, these people can reduce their symptoms.

It is possible that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is related to food allergies. So, if you have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and you have not been tested for food allergies, this is an area to explore with an allergy specialist. Your food diary will come in handy again here.

It is possible that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is caused by a lack of balance between the good and the bad bacteria in the Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract. For this reason, sometimes probiotics are recommended so that this balance can be improved.

It is also possible that doctors may prescribe antibiotics in this case to change the make up of the GI flora.

Other research of this disorder has shown that the pain and contraction of stomach muscles may be relieved by antidepressants. Since it is not believed that depression is necessarily the cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, it needs to be understood that these antidepressants are not prescribed to relieve depression. Instead, they are prescribed to block the brain's pain receptors and make the stomach muscles relax. It is also possible that antidepressants are prescribed to relieve anxiety that may accompany this disorder.

Continue reading to discover more about the dietary and lifestyle, and natural methods you can use to alleviate IBS symptoms by joining the Free IBS Newsletter.

So if you have an irritable bowel treat it initially by understanding your symptoms and what triggers them for you. The majority of the people who have this disorder are able to live normal, healthy, pain-free lives, but they are the ones who have a good understanding of how the conditions effects them and made the appropriate lifestyle changes. <bio>Sign up for the free Irritable Bowel Syndrome Newsletter and discover new and natural methods to soothe Irritable Bowel, treat and relieve symptoms at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is. </bio>

Aside the stress itself which leads to many symptoms, other conditions can produce symptoms similar to that produced by stress. One of such medical condition is depression. Although, stress when not treated can result in depression, but the feelings ascribed to both of the conditions are quite different. When you are depressed, life ceases to interest you, lack of hope sets in, abnormal sleeping habit is experienced and you become so unhappy that you will want to terminate your life. Most depressed cases leads to ostracizing oneself and therefore the inability to function in the day to day affairs of life. Finding solution to depressed cases often requires the attention of a trained and experienced professional to help find out the root cause of depression; who can be able to tell if the depression is as a result of stress or the man problem is that of depression itself.

Another medical condition that has similar symptoms as that of stress is anxiety disorder. Anxiety could be as a result of fear, panic or even eagerness. Symptoms of anxiety includes muscles tension, shallow breaths, and rapid heart rates. Anxiety may be started up by unreasonable and unfounded fear, sights or smell. Anxiety can result in physical effects like chest pain will a similitude of heart attack, which more of panic, dizziness, headaches and imitable bowels symptom. Vocation, social relationships and family life can be distorted by anxiety attack.

There is also the Post -- Traumatic stress Disorder. The main causes of PTSD is when one encountered an event that is quite traumatic such as sexual assault or combat. Or a very devastating occurrence to many people at a time. Such devastating events could be natural disasters.
