You've got the perfect kitchen, all of the top end appliances that you have always wanted. The fixtures are beautiful and the countertops are enough to make your family and friends jealous. So why are you still throwing trash into just any old trash can or even worse a cheap plastic bin under your sink?

Your trash can should go with the general theme and color scheme of your kitchen. Your trash can should not look like a walmart special with the flip top that is always stuck in the open position. Like any piece of furniture, trash cans are available in a wide variety of styles and colors. A trash can can be a simple yet elegant piece that matches your kitchen cabinets or it can be a striking symbol of style if you decide to go with stainless steel.

A rather recent trend is to build a trash can into your existing cabinets. By purchasing a few pieces of lumber any normally unused cabinet space can be transformed into a hidden trash can. This method does require a little work, but is a simple project that just about anyone can do. Pay special attention to the materials you use, because you are counting on them blocking the rest of your kitchen from odors.

The old favorite that seems to fit in just about any kitchen though is a simple stainless steel model. Part of its popularity is owed to the fact that stainless steel resists odors better then just about any other material that trash cans are made of.

The true finishing touch to any kitchen is the trash can. A trash can will accent the look and feel of any kitchen. Fortunately there are several options for trash cans no matter what kitchen style you have chosen. <bio>http://www.trashcanchoice.com is full of trash can articles and outdoor trash can information </bio>

Picture this. You've spent all day working on organizing files and at the end of the day, you want to change the name of the folder to show the status of your work. Vista takes control and pop-ups start slapping you in the face.

"You need to confirm this operation." Ok, you click "continue"

Then another- "If you started this operation, click continue." Ok, you do.

Then another- "You need permission to perform this action" Good grief, I own this computer, I am the only one using it and I need permission? Who does Vista think it is?

You're given two choices- try again and cancel. Neither gives you the desired change of name.

What should have taken seconds is now minutes and you still haven't got it done.

Ok, so lets change permissions. Now where do you begin.

Right click on the folder and go to properties. Shared with everyone from there and tried it again. Same results.

Right click on the folder again and then chose "share". Another pop-up..."This may take a few minutes" The "few minutes" is now 5 minutes. Then finally, another popup- "your folder is now shared."

You try again. Same results.

You give up on that approach and make another folder naming it what you want. Then copy and paste from old folder to new. Now you wait while it is copying. Ok, three minutes later you have a new folder, named what you want and the old folder that you can now delete. Another pop-up, "Are you sure you want to move this item to the Recycle Bin?"

I wouldn't have had to, if you had just let me rename it!!

"yes" then wait another minute and finally you have accomplished your renaming of a folder Vista style.

What should have taken 5 seconds, took 20 minutes.

Thank you Vista for wasting my time, for thinking that I don't know what I'm doing, for your "I know best attitude."

I've had it.
Trash cans a generation ago were associated with unspeakable things--things which crawled out of the bottom of the refrigerator, out from under the bed, or down from the attic. Children were punished by being told to "Take out the trash" (usually preceded by "Clean your room").

Today, though, trash cans exist in a new light. Trash cans have become fashionable. No longer are trash cans the stuff of nightmares. Instead, they are touted as being the avenue to wealth. This gradual transformation of the lowly trash can has been the result of two major changes in the sociological fabric of the United States. First is the birth of the lovable Sesame Street character known as Oscar the Grouch. Jim Henson, intentionally or otherwise, created at least two new industries with this unique green Muppet. The first of course, is the sale of anything related to the little curmudgeon. It's interesting to note that Oscar started out yellow, changed colors to orange, and is currently green. This is probably what would actually occur to any creature living in a garbage can.

At any rate, by removing the ugly, bad, smelly connotation from the trash can, it has changed the way America's young adults view trash. Oscar the Grouch has made possible the metamorphosis of the trash can from something to be avoided at all costs, to something to be viewed as a pleasant place to visit. The change in thinking brought about the second great change in the fabric of America's society--the growth of E-Bay.

Children have grown to adulthood realizing that trash cans can be used to supplement one's income. You simply pull treasures out of the trash can and place them on E-Bay. Then someone buys these trash can escapees and pays good money to you. What could be simpler? <bio>Lisa Anderson is a proud contributing author.
Collecting recipes from all over the world wide web can be fun and very rewarding in terms of the food you eat. It can also be a nightmare to organize. It doesn't have to be. A little work early on will pay rich rewards as your recipe collection grows. There's no need to buy expensive software, everything you need is on your computer right now. There's no need to print anything out, either, even though most good cooking websites provide you with that facility. You just need to follow the easy, step by step, instructions below.

I'm going to assume that you are a Windows user and that you have Internet Explorer as your web browser (the software that lets you access the internet). If you have a different system don't worry, the only real difference is likely to be that your 'Favorites' file is called 'bookmarks'. I'm also going to assume that you know next to nothing about using that file. You may find it easier to print these instructions out.

Here's what you need to do:

1.Open your browser by double clicking on the 'e' shaped icon on your desktop (the area of screen you see when nothing else is happening).

2.In the top gray bar you will see the following: File Edit View Favorites Tools Help. Click on Favorites.

3.In the menu that appears click on Organize Favorites and in the little box that pops up you will see four buttons on the left. Click on Create Folder.

4.In the little window on the right you will see a new folder appear with the words 'New Folder' highlighted in blue. Without doing anything else, type the word Recipes and hit the 'enter' key. That's step one completed.

5.Now click on Create Folder again and name this folder Chicken. You now have two new folders, one below the other, but we want the Chicken folder inside the Recipes folder and that's easy to do.

6.Highlight the Chicken folder by clicking on it once. Click on the button marked Move to Folder.

7.In the window that appears scroll down to the Recipes folder, click on it once and then click 'OK'. As you return to the original window you will see that the Chicken folder has disappeared.

8.Click on the Recipes folder and you will see it reappear, but this time it's inside the Recipes folder.

9.Adding more sub-folders is a snap. All you have to do is highlight the Chicken folder by clicking on it once and then click Create Folder. You will see your new folder appear under the Chicken folder and inside the Recipes folder. Call this one Lamb or Salmon or anything else you like. You can go on adding folders like this until you have all you need. You can also add more at a later date just by following the same process.

Before we finish, let's just check that you have everything working as it should. Go to this page http://www.all-about-cooking.com/chicken (if a box drops down with my picture on it click the little 'x' in the top right corner to get rid of it) and click on Favorites followed by Add to Favorites.

Scroll down in the window that appears and click on the little [+] next to Recipes, then Chicken and finally the OK button in the top right corner. That's it, you're done. You now have a complete chicken recipe collection neatly stored in your favorites file that you can access any time you like. And of course you can add as many different web pages or individual recipes as you wish by following the same simple procedure. Just get into the habit of clicking the Favorites button whenever you find a recipe you like and you need never be surrounded by bits of paper again. <bio>Michael Sheridan is a chef and an acknowledged authority and published writer on cooking matters.
The basic steps to build your own web site for free are not hard to learn and accomplish. If we keep in mind that simpler is better we can have a nice professional looking site with only a little effort. It will however take a little time to set up the structure of your site.

The first thing you should do is create a folder on your desktop and name it something you will remember like MY WEBSITE. You will be using this folder to collect all your graphics, and text and web pages you are going to create. If it is all in one place then it is not hard to find when you go to send it to the website. Inside the folder MY WEBSITE make a folder and name it images. Into the images folder you will put all the graphics you have prepared for your web site.

The number one tip to help you to build your own web site for free is to get organized. Using my preferred method of post it notes write each section of your web site on a post it note. For example Home, Contact, Products, and Demo might be your main areas of your site. You would have a post it note for each of these sections. If you have other pages you would like to have on the site use another post it and place it under the section it would go into.

Once you have decided on your main sections for your site create a folder for each section inside the MY WEBSITE folder. You're MY WEBSITE folder will now contain a number of folders. There will be images, contact, products and demo if we use the previous example. You do not need to create a folder to represent Home.

So - we'll assume you have now set up your four (or however many!) main areas within your website. Now you have to choose where you are going to put your welcome page (the first "home page" that visitors to your site will see).

The home page will be a file or web page the visitor sees when he types in your domain name. This file which we will name index.html will be the only file in the MY WEBSITE folder the rest of the contents will be folders (images, contact, products and demos from the example). Your MY WEBSITE folder will contain folders with the names of the sections of the site that you have decided upon.

Let's make this a little clearer; you will be creating a mirror site on the Internet to reflect the one you are beginning to create on your own hard drive.

When you start to upload files to your web host so that they can be seen by everyone on the internet you would "open folder for folder" (the left-hand side of your FTP program will show the MY WEBSITE folder, and exactly the same folders on the right-hand-side of your FTP screen (which will be your web host) as you match the construction page by page).

You will already have to "open" your site folder (on the left) to access its contents on screen (whereas the website version [on the right of the FTP screen] will automatically display the contents of the primary folder [whether that is your site-name folder or your "welcome" folder on your own hard drive]). Keeping these two folders the one on your hard drive "MY WEBSITE" and the folder on the website the same will help keep your site organized and make it easier to Build Your Own Web Site for Free.

This is not as complicated as it may at first sound but you will have the correct structure in place to allow you to stay organized and focused. It is extremely easy to lose your place when you have multiple files, by keeping the mirror folders in place you will always know where you are and the links will all work correctly.

So - now - you have your main site folder constructed, and your sub-folders (for however many areas you chose), and the images folder set up. You have completed the first steps to build your own web site for free. <bio>Victoria Hargis has been a web developer for over 10 years.

We are often pretty sensitive about the appearance of our car, as a person's car is implicitly linked to his social status and reputation. Everyone likes stylish, stunning, and organized vehicles. Although, we can spend luxuriously on the style and looks of our vehicles, and make them truly captivating, but its tidiness requires some conscious efforts from our part.

We can keep our vehicle clean and organized by taking some small yet valuable measures. We generally leave everything to mechanics and service stations, with a presumption that these would take good care of our vehicles. Despite, all their hard work, we often feel unsatisfied with our vehicles' looks as well as performance.

This happens largely due to our carelessness in proper maintenance of vehicles. A little effort from our part can delay our vehicle's frequent visits to service stations, and thereby helps in increasing its life remarkably. In order to keep your car organized and tidy, just add few important things in it, these are:

• Trash Bag -- Make sure that your car must have a small trash-bag in it. This will help you in gathering all the litter within your vehicle, and ultimately disposing off to a suitable place. Train your kids about the use of trash bags, and instruct them to put all the garbage, empty packets and bottles, wrappers, etc, into the trash bag. Don't heap the litter for long and empty the trash-bag, wherever you find trash bins.

• Document Folder - Always keep an optimum sized folder or bag in your car, to keep all your important documents and papers at one place. This will save you from the embarrassment, when the traffic official stops you for routine checking. Always place this bag in the glove compartment of your car; this will make all these documents readily available, when required.

• Multi-purpose Bags- In addition to documents and paper, the interior of our cars are often found to be cluttered with several things, such as- CDs and DVDs, maps, books, and other such objects. Make sure that these objects aren't unnecessarily cluttering your car's interior, and arrange them properly into a suitably designed bag. These articles, if misplaced, diminish the interior appearance of your car significantly.

• Waxing and Polishing Material- Always keep appropriate polishing and waxing material into your car. This will help in dealing with minor scratches and marks within your car's interior.

• Backseat Organizer -- Install a good backseat organizer in your car, which would help your kids in placing their toys, coloring books, water bottles, umbrella, and other such things. This will take care of the entire belongings of your family, and thereby help you in keeping your car clean and organized.

Besides all these items, you must vacuum clean your vehicle fortnightly. Clean out the dirt from the covers and other parts of your vehicle's interior. Also keep doors of all the compartments properly fitted to the body of the car, so that none of the material would come out of it.<bio>Article by Richard Crittendon on behalf of Automobile.com - for more great information on cars and driving, see these recent reviews on the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and the 2008 Chevy Silverado</bio>

Dear Computer Lady,

Can you please tell me how to get my pictures on my computer as a screen saver?

Thanks, Nancy

Dear Nancy,

To get started setting up your pictures as a screen saver, you need two things in place. First, you need to have your pictures stored on your hard drive, preferably in the "My Pictures" folder in XP, or the "Pictures" folder in Vista. The second thing you need is to have either Windows XP or Vista on your computer since this won't work in Windows 98.

If you have everything in place, let's get started!

1. Open the Display properties window using one of the two following methods. a) Right click on a blank spot on the desktop, and then click on "Properties" b) Click on "Start" then click on "Control Panel". In the Control Panel window, click on "Appearance and Themes" and then click on "Display".

2. In the Display Properties window, click on the "Screen Saver" tab.

3. On the Screen Saver page, click the drop down list under the picture and click on "My Pictures Slideshow" to select it.

4. With the My Pictures Slideshow selected, click on the "Settings" button on the right.

5. On the screen saver options page, you can change a few things like how often the pictures change, and how much of the screen they should fill. Halfway down the page, there is a section that says, "Use pictures in this folder:" click the "Browse" button in that section.

6. In the "Browse for Folder" window, click on the folder that contains the pictures you want to use in your screen saver. If you want to display all the pictures in all the folders in your "My Pictures" folder, just select the "My Pictures" folder.

7. Click "OK" three times to save your changes.

Elizabeth <bio>Elizabeth Boston is the author of the free, weekly e-newsletter, Ask The Computer Lady, in which she teaches thousands of computer users easy, step by step computing solutions.
Ah, the desktop. It's just as important to keep your desktop clean on your Windows PC as it is to keep your real desktop clutter free, so that you may work at optimal performance. It will help your computer speed up as well. Having to render all those icons on the desktop all the time can really slow things down.

Did you know you can actually remove all the icons from your desktop? If you create a new folder in the middle of the desktop then you move all your icons to the left or right side of the desktop, then you can select everything and drag it all off of the desktop by dragging the new folder to the left or right along with all the other items selected. This is the crude way to remove everything, because technically it's still all on your desktop but it's just not visible.

Another way to get rid of most of the main icons is to put them all in one folder on the desktop. Just name it "Desktop Stuff". Then you magically have a clean desktop and all the stuff that's normally on your desktop is in one folder right there. It will speed up your computer slightly, but you do have to double click one extra time, it seems like a good trade off though.

If you simply must keep many of the things on your desktop, there are several tools to help you organize all the essential items that you can't live without on the desktop. First, you can access all the options by right clicking on the desktop. If you go to the View menu you can choose between different sizes of icons. If you put them on Large that might help you realize how cluttered or clean your desktop is. From the View menu you can also align your icons to a grid, or have Windows "auto arrange" your icons. If you like that make circles with and stuff with your icons then you will probably want to stay away from aligning them to a grid.

If you do have them set to auto arrange. You can then sort them by their name, size of the files, or other options like that. Really, the best way to go is to just make one folder and throw all of that junk that's been piling up on your desktop straight to the desktop master folder. Just imagine your real desktop having one folder where you could have all your family photos and memorabilia right there in one folder instead of all taking up space and collecting dust!

Just by following these simple steps, you can improve the performance on your PC, especially when loading demanding applications such as games or word processor for example. If you have a large number of files you could create different directories such as `pictures,' `music' or `video' for example. I even suggest a scrapbook folder for files you are not sure about how to classify. <bio>Kay Brenner is a PC Doctor consultant who specializes in restoring your slow PC, saving you time and money wrestling with a sick computer.
There is an item that is essential for a successful business. It may not seem like something that is a big deal, but when you are dealing with other corporations and with customers who are looking for professionalism, it's important to have. The item is promotional folders.

When you are handing out information to potential clients or customers, you want to have the information presented in clear, concise way and stowed neatly in a folder which bears your name and logo. This will help your customer to identify the folder.

Promotional folders are especially important for businesses where someone comes to a client's home. This includes:

General contractors
Roofers
Kitchen specialists
Bathroom specialists

A client may have gotten several different quotes from companies, so you want to make sure that your estimate stands out from the rest.

Where can promotional folders be used?

1. One on one client interaction

When you are meeting with a potential client, you want to have all of the information in a neat and orderly branded folder and make sure that you leave the branded folder with the client. That way they can look through it at their leisure.

2. At conferences and expos

When you are running an information booth at an expo, it's always a good idea to give the information to visitors in a folder. This way they can keep all of your information together. Some companies just hand a client a flyer without putting it in a folder to take home with them. A lot of those flyers end up in the rubbish.

3. During meetings

When conducting a meeting, it's good practice to hand out the information that the meeting will be about in folders. It keeps everything neat and orderly, and you can use the folders as a guide for the meeting.

As you can see, branded folders are an item that no business should be without. They are an item that helps to keep things neat and orderly when you are giving people information, and presents an air of professionalism when you are dealing with customers. They help a company to stand out from the rest because not everyone uses folders and it's easier to carry around one folder than to carry around fifteen or more separate sheets of paper.

When a company wants to show its competitors and clients that they are serious about their business, they put their items into a branded folder with their company information and logo on it. The branded folder helps customers to know which quotes go with what company when they are having some work done to a house and keep everything straight.

Branded folders are really something that is more cosmetic in the business world, but you will find that customers and associates alike will like that you took the time to make everything neat and put it in a folder instead of just handing them a pile of papers.

Promotional folders are an item that no company should be without.<bio>Matt Franks is director of Fluid Branding, the UK's largest supplier of Promotional Folders and Branded Folders at www.fluidbranding.com.
It can happen to anyone. We accidentally delete an email that we really need. And it just happened to be important work file, attachment or picture. So now what? How can I recover that email? Is it at all possible? Surely, it can be permanently deleted?

Well, there is good news and bad news.

Let's start with the good news.

Restoring Deleted Emails

If you delete an email, it hasn't really gone anywhere. Even if you've emptied your recycle bin or the "Trash" folder in your Inbox -- the email still isn't deleted. It's just that your computer system now has no way to figure out where it is. But it's there, still on your hard drive. By using special email recovery tools you can recover deleted emails because these programs identify these 'missing' files and can bring them back to life.

Now the bad news.

Act Quickly and Increase Your Chances

The bad news is you have to act quickly. You only have a small time-frame in which to try to attempt to recover your lost email. Every minute that you waste and continue to use the drive for anything that isn't related to recovering your emails, you severely decrease your chances of successful email recovery. Why?

Well, because your hard drive is constantly overwriting files to make space for new information you put into it. If your hard drive is full and there is not much space or memory available -- it is highly probable that the email has already been overwritten and deleted -- permanently.

Other Problems with Recovering Deleted Emails

Not all deleted or lost emails go to "Trash" folder. If you have suffered a computer crash or hardware failure or your operating system is corrupted in some way, then it is unlikely that emails you have deleted can be recovered.

Also, if you haven't opened the email at all or it hasn't been deleted the usual way due to file corruption, you probably will have less of a chance to recover and restore the email in its entirety.

Nothing to Lose

Recover deleted email programs search and locate the emails that you have deleted. You can search by entering a specific keyword for example. Then, you can choose to preview the email to see it's contents and if it's been recovered in its original state by the program. You can also select to scan for what ever email program you are using (and need to recover) -- either web based emails such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail or Outlook Express.

Best bit is this. Most of these email recovery programs are free to download. When they start scanning your hard drive looking for the deleted email and then manage to find it and when you are completely satisfied that that's your missing email -- then you can then proceed to purchase the software.

In essence, you have nothing to lose (if the email is not there -- it's not there) and everything to gain.

Well, at least you can get your deleted email back.<bio>By Giselle Sanchez.
The roaring success of the promotional pen has taught us that the best promotional items and products have two important properties=97they are portable, and they are practical. The conference folder is certainly both, and like all good promotional products they'll be great advertising vehicles for as long as they are used=97 but how long does the utility of this item last when the conference is over?

The answer to that question really depends on the quality of the item in question. A low-quality conference folder that starts falling apart while its recipient is still at the event is not only a bad long term advertisement, it's also a very bad short-term one because nobody wants their company or oganisation to be associated with an item that falls apart after a couple of days! A good quality folder, on the other hand, will be used long after the conference event ends, and will continue to promote the company or companies that have advertised on it. If you are in search of quality conference folders that will last the test of time then your best bet is to look at leather conference folders.

There are many ways in which conference folders can be used after the conference or event is over =97 they are an important organising tool at the conference itself, and they are, of course, the best way to keep conference information together once the conference is over. More over they can be used by your sales representatives out on the road as a useful tool for storing brochures and meeting notes. This is turn means that your conference folders have had a double edge effect, promoting your message at the conference and thereafter continually acting as an advertising tool for your business with your sales reps out on the road.

In addition, a good quality folder can serve any number of organizational purposes once the conference information is filed or no longer needed, even in the information age where so much information is stored online and on computer networks. If the conference folder is used for any purpose, whether at work or at home, it continues to increase awareness of the company who advertises on the folder.

A really good quality conference folder is very often an item that its owner takes pride in, and will take care to keep in good condition. They can become great items for every-day use, for note-taking, storing important paperwork, or keeping often-used documents together. They can even have similar uses at home, which can expand the value of the conference folder far beyond its original purpose. Advertising that is seen at the office is important, but it's even more beneficial when your advertising message can travel out of the work-place.

That, essentially, is what makes conference folders more than just a conference item. A well-designed and well-equipped conference folder is a great conference gift, but a good quality folder is also a practical advertising gift that will last well beyond the conference day or weekend.

For more information on promotional conference folders, promotional items and business promotional products check out the market leading promotional gift suppliers online today. <bio>Gareth Parkin is the co-founder of Ideasbynet, the UK's leading online supplier of http://www.ideasbynet.com/ideasbynet_promotional_conference_folders.htm and http://www.ideasbynet.com based in the north of England. </bio>

Presenting something to a client that looks professional and organized will speak volumns about the buisness before the folder is even opened. Taking advantage of the many options of presentation folders allows almost any business, of any size and budget, to use presetnation folders to take their business to the next level.

The look that presentation folders bring to the table can mean everything to a business and a client. Materials that are presented in a neat, professional manner will grab the attention of the client and give them a sense that the business has their stuff together and really knows what they are doing. It is the first impression made on a client and speaks for the business before anything or anyone else does. What is inside can be truly ground breaking, but if it isn't presented wisely the client's attention can be lessened.
Has your computer ever crashed on you? I don't mean the normal everyday, "I'm a Microsoft Product so I must shutdown" crashes, I mean really crashed where you cannot boot back up. Where your hard drive just quit working or some other major problem made you lose all of your data.

It's like losing your wallet. Losing your money isn't so bad, but all that time getting new ID, credit cards, and other important papers is aggravating. On your computer there is a lot of data we take for granted every day.

Documents we have created, music we have downloaded, pictures we have saved, and so much more. Most people know its wise to back up those items onto a CD-ROM or onto storage space somewhere on the web, but what are some of the other things you should be backing up?

Do you allow cookies to be stored on your computer to remember your login information for websites that you visit a lot? Then you also need to find the "cookies" folder on your computer and back that up as well. In Windows 98 its in C:windowscookies. In Windows XP, its in C:documents and settingsusernamecookies.

Do you know all of your passwords by heart? Do you use a program to manage passwords? If you use a program, find it, probably in program files, and back up the files inside that folder that related to your saved password files. If you ever have to reinstall that program you can re-add those files into the new folder and have all of your old password files.

If you do not use a program, you need to have a system of recovering those passwords if your computer ever quits on you. If you do not have one, create one and add all of your new passwords you create to it. Don't put it in your wallet.

Hit F3 on your computer and select search for files on C Drive. Type in (*).PWL(*) without the parenthesis. It's the asterisk dot pwl asterisk with no spaces. Hit search and windows will find all of the password files for you. To find them manually, check C:windows. Back up those files if you want your computer logins to remain the same.

What about your email? Not just the saved email, but the entire folder structure you spent time creating, your address book, and your account information with all of the right settings to send and receive email. You will want to back these up whenever you do all of your other backups.

First, how to backup all of the email and folder structure in Outlook Express. Open Outlook Express. Go to tools, options, maintenance. There will be a button there that says "store folder". Click on that. Highlight the entire path that comes up in the little text box. Now hit cancel and cancel to close all popups.

Click on "start" in your task bar. Go to run. Paste the path you just copied into the text box and hit enter. A folder will open. Go to edit, select all, then go to edit again and select "copy". Now close that folder. Right click on your computer desktop, select new, folder.Rename that folder "mailbackup". Open that folder. Go to edit, paste.

Leave that folder open so you can backup your mail account settings and information. Now go back to Outlook Express. Go to tools, accounts, mail. You will do the following for each mail account you have. Highlight one account, Click Export. Browse to where the mailbackup file is on your desktop and export it into there. Once you do that with each account, you can cancel out of the open dialog boxes.

Now, for your address book. Go to Outlook Express one more time. Go to export. Choose address book. Choose text file. Browse again to the mailbackup folder and export it to there.

Now using winzip or other file compression utility, you can zip the mailbackup folder up and back it up to CD-ROM or to an online storage place. Make a schedule of backing these things I have included in the article. Consider it insurance against a hard drive crash. Believe me, if you use the web a lot, you'd almost rather lose your wallet than lose all of your computer data. <bio>Dave Vaccaro offers more tips on new technology at http://www.newtechnologyblog.com Learn about the latest technology you can use to make your life easier.
We noticed that some people are having a harder time getting indexed than they did before. But thankfully there is still a way to get indexed quickly!

One thing we noticed works really well, and we are starting to do it on all our web sites, is putting a blog as the main index page.

Why does this work so well? Probably because the search engines notice you updated your web site every time you add content to the blog.

When the blog is in a sub folder, the search engines might not see it every time they visit.

Especially when your site is brand new, it doesn't get all its pages spidered right away. But the index page gets spidered practically every time a bot visits.

If a search engine notices your web site is being updated frequently, it is more likely to be indexed. It will also be indexed deeper (meaning more pages will be indexed) and the pages will rank higher in the search results!

How do you put a blog as the index page?

It's actually quite simple. Normally when you install a blog (WordPress for example) you put all the files into a new folder. To have the blog as the main page, you just upload all the files in the root directory.

For example, in one of our videos we showed you how to install WordPress. We put all the files into a folder called "blog". If we wanted the blog to be the index page, we wouldn't have even created a new folder at all.

You could also change the WordPress template so it looks like the rest of your site. This way it doesn't look like there is a blog on the front page. This can be a little tricky to do so we're working on a video that shows you how to do that.

And remember... you still need to post messages to your blog frequently in order to get your site indexed faster. But even posting as little as once a day has a huge impact on how fast it happens! <bio>Seth Willis Jr. is the webmaster for http://www.adsenseschool.com

he is an experienced internet marketer and has a lot of expertise with adsense."
Anyone who plans on spending any length of time wandering the halls of Photoshop should consider learning how Photoshop layer sets work.

Layers are crucial to the entire mechanism of Photoshop design and enhancement.

The Photoshop "Layers" palette maintains a precise history of all your keystrokes... so you don't have to remember anything.

Layers can be likened to your command post, so it behooves you to spend some time in there. Let's take a brief look around right now.

Hmm, looks complicated, doesn't it? Well, unlike a lot of other functions inside Photoshop, Layers really is pretty simple.

Basically, it isolates different sections or transformations so you can work on them without affecting the rest of the image.

Which really comes in handy when you find yourself up against the wall and need to start that particular enhancement over: just throw that layer away.

Your Photoshop Layers box will automatically create a new layer for you for some changes, but you can also create a new yourself.

On your top menu bar, click "Layer," then "New." You'll see a brand new, empty layer appear inside your Layers box. Notice that it has been highlited and the "background," or original, layer is not.

The highlighted layer is the active layer, meaning that's the one you're presently working on. To activate a different layer, simply click on it, and Photoshop highlights (activates) it for you.

Becoming aware of this one function is essential for successfully working in layers.

(Note: Photoshop CS2 lets you activate multiple layers.)

Once you have a few layers inside your Layers dialog box, try clicking the eyeballs next to each one.

You'll see that in this way you can visually isolate layers so you can tell exactly what it is you're working on.

At times, you will find yourself creating many, many layers for a single image. When that happens, it gets difficult to find the layer you want to affect.

The solution to this problem lies in creating groups, or "layer sets." Grouping layers allows you to place them into a folder. (In Photoshop CS, first link the layers, then choose "New Set from Linked" on the side menu of the Layers box.)

In Photoshop 7, you create a group by choosing each one, then clicking "Group with Previous" inside your Layer option in the top menu. Or you can click the tiny folder icon at the bottom of the

Layers palette and drag the layers into that layer when it appears, then click the collapse arrow to the left of the set folder to hide the layers inside the folder.

If you want to get rid of the set folder later, highlight it, then click Layer, Delete, Set, then choose either "Set and Contents" or "Set Only."

Some versions of Photoshop require you to choose your layers and then "Shift-Click" on the bottom folder icon to create a set folder. In Photoshop CS2, you can align layers by choosing View > Show > Smart Guides.

Like all the other fabulous Photoshop functions, Layers offers almost limitless ways to affect your photos and the way you maneuver around inside Photoshop itself.

Master The Basics Of Adobe Photoshop With My 2 Hour Easy To Use Photoshop Video Tutorial. <bio>Master The Basics Of Adobe Photoshop In Under 2 Hours With Easy To Follow Online Photoshop Video Tutorials.
Up until quite recently, a Macintosh user was able to remain mostly free from harmful worms and viruses on their computers. This is partially because of the fact that as Mac OS X is Unix-based, the operating system is relatively secure against such attacks. Another possible reason could have to do with the fact that Mac has had a smaller market share than its main competitor. However, this entire situation changed a bit on the 14th of February 2006, when a new virus was introduced that specifically targets Macintosh users.

A file, 'latestpics.tgz,' presents itself as a tar-shipped screen shot from Mac OS 10.5. This file first struck at a popular site for Mac-based rumors and info; visitors to the site quickly discovered that the file was a worm. Although this worm won't cause any real damage to the Mac it strikes, it instead infects your list of buddies on iChat. This worm will affect Macintosh computers running OS X 10.4 or later on a Power PC machine (not Intel). Sophos and Symantec have started to respond to the problem, but there isn't an easy workaround in place at the moment. An official security patch will probably be released by Apple, but in the meantime, users can add a folder with an action that will alert them if something has been added into the input management folder.

To activate, go to:

Library / InputManagers /

Then, right click (or control click) on the folder.
In the past, Macintosh users have been mostly spared from malicious worms and viruses. This is both because Mac OS X is fairly secure, as a UNIX application, and the fact that they have had smaller market share. On Valentine's Day 2006 this changed a bit.

A 'latestpics.tgz' file which claims to be a tar-zipped screenshot package (from the Mac OS 10.5), was posted to a popular site of Mac Rumors. Visitors of this site discovered it was a worm rather quickly - it was fairly benign, in that it didn't actually inflict damage on the machine, but rather infects your iChat list of buddies. This trojan only works on PowerPC-based Macs, not Intel machine. This only affects Macs of OS X 10.4 or after.

AV companies such as Sophos and Symantec have already responded, though there's also a simple workaround to use. Apple will most likely have an official security patch for this problem by the time you read this. In the meanwhile, just add a folder action which will alert you if something has been added to your input manager folder - the worm will work on that piece of the operating system.

In order to activate the alert feature:

Go to --> Library/InputManagers/
Right click (or Ctrl click) on the folder. Select 'enable folder actions' if this is not already enabled.

Right click (or Ctrl click) on the folder another time. Select 'attach a folder action.' Select 'add - new item alert script' from the Folder Action Strips folder (default).

By doing this small task, you will be alerted if an item tries to insert itself like a trojan into your InputManagers folder.

NOTE: This is not a solution, but a workaround. If you have an antivirus program which has an actual fix, or if Apple provides a security update, we advise that you rely on these solutions instead of the above fix to solve the issue.

To secure your Mac, follow the tips below:

>> Run AV.

>> Make your computer ask for a password whenever waking from sleep or a screen saver.
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security > Require password...

>> Use a non-administration account. Simply add an admin account for installing software and other tasks.
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > add admin account, then demote to standard. Log out and log in while remembering new password.

>> Use a good password which has numbers, letters and symbols in it. Disable auto-login.
/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, click on the key in the 'change keychain password dialogue' and select a password type and length in the assistant.

>> Disable unnecessary sharing; turn on firewall
Apple Menu, System Preferences, Sharing Services. Uncheck all those you don't need.
Apple Menu, System Preferences, Sharing, Firewall, Start!

With these tips, you should be on your way to securing your Mac computer from this another other malicious virues, worms, and trojans. Remember, this is just a work-around; if there is another official fix from Apple, we recommend that you use this fix to help solve the problem.<bio>Nick Pegley is VP Marketing for All Covered: Technology Services Partner for Small Business, providing local disaster recovery consulting and technology services in 20 major U.S. metro areas.</bio>
