<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Fixing a TiVo or any other piece of electrical equipment is not that easy these days. Go to just about any <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/electronics+shop" rel="tag">electronics shop</a>, and chances are you are not going to find people that are up to date on the latest TiVo repairs or even TiVo Upgrades. <br /><br /> To further frustrate you and unfortunately the best place to go to is the TiVo 800 number. You're going to find that the system, and sometimes even the operators try to push you as much as possible to the website, where they promise "many of your questions will be answered." <br /><br /> Now to be perfectly fair, my TiVo rarely breaks down and I know this is one of the ways that the company is able to keep their prices so low. So in that regard repairing your TiVo is not that big a price to pay, all things considered. You just have to have a little patience. <br /><br /> I cannot say that I am a big fan of the TiVo repair website, They have plenty of pull-down menus and some general "frequently asked questions." Yet all of these seem to point to the fact that everything can be solved by simply using the TiVo remote in one way or another. <br /><br /> After trying all this for a while, I know that eventually you will become frustrated and feel that you need to talk to an actual <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/live+person" rel="tag">live person</a>. Unfortunately, there were about as useful as the aforementioned website. <br /><br /> My best recommendation to you should you need TiVo repair, is to try to find something online. I was able to find some help. But in the meantime, my best advice for you is to go to online forums for TiVo repair and submit questions. <br /><br /> Here are some of the forums you can try: <br /><br /> AVS Forum - contains discussions on <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hdtv+equipment" rel="tag">HDTV equipment</a>, <br /><br /> TiVo Community- a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/large+forum" rel="tag">large forum</a> dedicated to the TiVo community <br /><br /> The TiVo AVS Forums - The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/central+hub" rel="tag">central hub</a> of all TiVo thoughts <br /><br /> TivoHelp.com - A comprehensive site for TiVo <br /><br /> The Hinsdale How-To - A detailed how-to on modifying your TiVo <br /><br /> tivoftpd - FTP utility for your TiVo <br /><br /> tivoweb - web based control of your TiVoTystudio - video <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/extraction+utility" rel="tag">extraction utility</a> for your TiVo <br /><br /> All in all, these sites and forums should not only serve you well for TiVo repair, but also for any other TiVo issues you might have. <br /><br /> I sincerely hope you have found this article informative. Like I mentioned before, my TiVo rarely breaks down. So I hope you don't have too many problems with yours. <bio>If you would like to know more please visit, <a href="http://www.tivotricks.com/TiVo_Repair.html" >http://www.tivotricks.com/TiVo_Repair.html</a> Timothy Cashman is an independent reviewer on products and services. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">TiVo</a> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/recently+announced+that" rel="tag">recently announced that</a> they have come out with a new <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hdtv" rel="tag">HDTV</a> capable DVR recorder. All yours for a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/measly" rel="tag">measly</a> $<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/300" rel="tag">300</a>!! I know some of you are wide-eyed at this cost, but look on the bright side. The previous TiVo HDTV (TiVo Series 3) cost $800, so at least we know that the price has come down quite a bit. It will also be interesting to see how competitors such as the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+network" rel="tag">Dish Network</a> TiVo react to this. <br /><br /> The new HDTV TiVo should be out in early August 2007. <br /><br /> This new HDTV TiVo has many similar features to it from the TiVo Series 3. It comes with dual ATSC tuners and CableCARD support. The previous version had quite a few items on it that displeased many a consumer and critics alike. So we can all sat good-bye to the THX certification, the 250 GB hard-drive and the front OLED display. <br /><br /> TiVo decided to lessen the amount of space on the hard-drive for the new HDTV TiVo. What the company found was that many of the customers simply were not going to use 32 hours worth of content. Plus this amount of hard-drive was really helping to drive up the cost of the unite. So TiVo decided to take down the size of the hard-drive to 20 hours. In my opinion you really don't need to worry about the size of the hard-drive. 20 hours on the new HDTV TiVo is plenty! <br /><br /> Some of the other more noteworthy features on the new HDTV TiVo are the direct downloads from movies and Television services. This should prove to be the gateway for more services to start being offered in an "On-Demand" basis. Other key offerings include the ability for online scheduling of your HDTV TiVo and music and image streaming for your own computer! <br /><br /> If there is one complaint that I still have with the original TiVo is that the $13 a month subscription fee still applies. I find this amazing as TiVo is really trying to compete with companies such as Dish Network who are stealing away TiVo's customer base. I would have hoped that the level of competition would have done away with this. <br /><br /> In any case, overall I giver the new HDTV TiVo a thumbs up. The pros of the new DVR far outweigh the cons. <br /><br /> I sincerely hope this article has been informative for you. <bio>If you would like to know more, please visit <a href="http://tivotricks.com/HDTV_TiVo.html" >http://tivotricks.com/HDTV_TiVo.html</a> Timothy Cashman is an independent reviewer on products and services. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ To put it simply TiVo is one enormous hard-drive, or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digital+video+recorder" rel="tag">digital video recorder</a> (DVR), that sits on your television and records your favorite TV shows. In a sense it is more or less the next generation of VCR. For those of you that can remember VCR's. However unlike VCR's, your TiVo allows you to record in a variety of different ways that can be viewed at any time in the future. <br /><br /> You should also know that there are other vendors out there, such as the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+network" rel="tag">Dish Network</a>. <br /><br /> Your TiVo or DVR can be used to select <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/preferred+programs" rel="tag">preferred programs</a> that you choose based on what you tell it record or based on your general interests. <br /><br /> Let's say for example you're interested in any movie staring Al Pacino. What your DVR will end up doing is to search from then on for any movies is which Mr. Pacino is credited. So by the next day or in a few days, you might end up with "Heat" "Scarface"; and the like. <br /><br /> And that's not the only way to record. You can record by a number of genres like actors and directors. And best of all they will stay on your DVRuntil you manually delete them. The source of all these programs will come from your local cable company or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+provider" rel="tag">satellite provider</a>. The way this works is that data, usually from a phone line, updates this on a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/daily+basis" rel="tag">daily basis</a> from the TiVo control center. <br /><br /> There might even be ways for you to upgrade your DVR.What is even more impressive is the fact that the DVR can even start recording shows based on what you watch without you even asking about it!!Actually there is one more thing that is more impressive. TiVo recently came out with HDTV TiVo. <br /><br /> Finally there is a rating system that most DVR's employ. This is where you the viewer can tell TiVo what you like and what you don't like. It is a very easy system to learn as it employs a "thumbs-up; or "thumbs down" approach. This actually goes on to determine what programs your DVR will record for you should you allow it to. This is very similar to what a companies like <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/netflix" rel="tag">Netflix</a> and Amazon.com do for their customers. <br /><br /> The purpose of this article is to give an overview on what TiVo/DVR's are all about. <content:encoded><![CDATA[TiVo is a consumer video device that allows end users to capture their favorite television programs to an internal <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hard+drive" rel="tag">hard drive</a>. Since its introduction in 1999, TiVo has attracted an ever-growing number of clients. Although TiVo is, in fact, very similar to video recorders, the technologies it employs are complex and sophisticated, allowing more freedom of choice and better selections to be made by the user. The device not only records the programs that the user specifies but also presents other related material that is of potential interest. <br /><br /> All the information is stored on a non-removable hard drive, which offers plenty of space. You can record up to 140 hours on your TiVo, selecting the exact programs that you are interested in. The box then does its job recording everything you wanted while you are "out living life", as TiVo makers state. Additional features include the fact that you can pause a live show being recorded and replay it. The user also has the option of "time shifting" a program -- viewing it without waiting for the recording to complete. Another useful feature is the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/slow+motion+mode" rel="tag">slow motion mode</a>, which enables you to watch that favorite sports scene over and over in great detail. You also have the option of searching a show by title, actor, genre or keyword, bringing the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo+experience" rel="tag">TiVo experience</a> closer to the realm of the World Wide Web. And speaking of the Internet, you can set up the recordings on line as well. The device was quickly accepted by viewers in USA and Great Britain, where this service is available. Today the company has around 5 million subscribers in America for its <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo+service" rel="tag">Tivo service</a>. <br /><br /> The TiVo box is easy to set up and works with antenna, cable, digital cable, satellite or any other combinations. You also need to activate the TiVo service, which enables you usage of the box and grants you access to all the device's features. TiVo's creators were TiVo Inc., a company started by Time Warner's Full Service Network and Silicon Graphics. To find out more about TiVo go to their website at www.TiVo.com . <br /><br /> There is no doubt Tivo has expanded the arrey of choice of entertainment in the American living room. It has been a great addition, especially for the busy way of American life as it has given them an added way to organise their living. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Have you ever heard someone say they were going to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">Tivo</a> a program and wondered what they meant? HD Tivo is a term used to describe a high definition <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digital+video+recorder" rel="tag">digital video recorder</a>, which permits the owner to record television programming and store it to an internal hard disk for later viewing. So, the next time someone says they are going to Tivo something, they are simply saying that they are going to record it so that it can be watched at a later, more convenient time. <br /><br /> HD Tivo units function much like a VCR, which permits users to record programs onto a videotape. The modernized form, however, is HD Tivo. This unit is not only <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/beneficial" rel="tag">beneficial</a> for recording, however, as it is also capable of pausing and/or rewinding a program already in progress. If, for instance, you have to step out of the room for a moment, you can pause the show and resume play when you reenter the room. The convenience of HD Tivo is unmistakable, which is why many entertainment buffs own this new video recording equipment and wouldn't think of turning on their TV without it. <br /><br /> Some HD Tivo units allow individuals to specify certain programs to record based on specific criteria, including program title, actor, genre, time, etc. This availability depends upon location and service, but is often beneficial to those who schedule future recordings ahead of time. <br /><br /> HD Tivo products have been manufactured by industry-leading companies, including Philips, Toshiba, Sony and others. In order to use Tivo, individuals are required to subscribe to a monthly service, which generally costs approximately $10.00 to $15.00 per month. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lifetime+subscription" rel="tag">Lifetime subscription</a> plans, which were previously offered by Tivo, have since been discontinued in place of a new program allowing customers to receive the unit at no cost in exchange for <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/prepaid+service" rel="tag">prepaid service</a>. <br /><br /> When subscribing to any service, including HD Tivo, it is important to carefully read the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/service+contract" rel="tag">service contract</a> and understand the service for which you are paying. The monthly costs, service and cancellation policies should be clearly outlined in any contract. Any questions should be asked prior to signing of the contract and/or exchange of any payment. If a prepaid amount is required, it is unlikely that a consumer would be permitted to cancel their service during that time and still receive a refund. However, this possibility should be discussed with a Tivo specialist. Along with the unit itself, consumers will likely receive an owner's manual and detailed instructions on how to operate their unit. As with any new technology, it may take some time to adapt to the features. By carefully reading the manual and paying close attention to the instructions of the representative, you should be able to Tivo in no time. <bio>Want to learn more about hd tivo <a href="http://www.top-tv-recorder-guide.info">http://www.top-tv-recorder-guide.info</a>? <content:encoded><![CDATA[ Surprisingly to some, TiVo is not the only vendor out there then it come to DVRs. There is also Dish Network, or as their product is officially called, the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+network+dvr" rel="tag">Dish Network DVR</a>. <br /><br /> The amazing thing about this DVR is that the company has more units than any other company. So in a sense what TiVo started, Dish Network seems to be finishing. Probably the most likely reason Dish Network is winning this battle is the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/simple+fact" rel="tag">simple fact</a> that they are giving it away for free as an incentive to purchase their entire Satellite <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tv+package" rel="tag">TV package</a>. <br /><br /> Its safe to say that the Dish Network DVR is very similar to that of TiVo. Again a DVR is a device that is basically a giant hard drive that let's you record live television. <br /><br /> Dish Network lets you record upwards to about 180 hours of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/television+programing" rel="tag">television programing</a>. Let me say for the record that this is A LOT of television. The number of hours is dependent on what kind of model you get from Dish Network. 100 hours is actually the norm. <br /><br /> Also very similar to TiVo, Dish is very easy to use and fairly straight forward in some of its options. <br /><br /> There are many options you can pursue and all of this takes place over the on-screen guide which I have found to be very easy to use. <br /><br /> As for the unit itself, I personally nor have anyone I have met come across any major expenses when it comes to servicing your Dish Network DVR. At the most is the inconvenience of swapping out the unite when you have a problem that cannot be fixed by the customer service people. And then the most you will incur is the cost of shipping the unit. <br /><br /> The question one really needs to ask yourself in terms of comparing the original TiVo to the Dish Network DVR is really whether or not <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+television" rel="tag">Satellite Television</a>, of which Dish Network is a part of, is right for you. Personally I prefer the original TiVo, but that is mostly because I have had it for much longer. <br /><br /> However, if you're a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+tv" rel="tag">Satellite TV</a> customer, then I really cannot say anything against getting a Dish Network DVR. You're <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/programming+experience" rel="tag">programming experience</a> is only sure to blossom! <bio>If you would like to know more, please visit <a href="http://www.tivotricks.com/Dish_Network_TiVo.html" >http://www.tivotricks.com/Dish_Network_TiVo.html</a> Timothy Cashman is an independent reviewer on products and services. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ You probably aren't aware of it but there is a good chance that your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digital+video+recorder" rel="tag">digital video recorder</a> has the ability to be programmed to record specific TV shows from places other than your living room. This might sound a bit strange at first but let me try to explain how this works. You are especially lucky if your digital video recorder happens to be a TiVo. <br /><br /> TiVo provides an online service that will allow you to access your TiVo digital video recorder over the Internet. This way you are able to program it to record a TV show or movie that you can then watch later at a time that suits you. The online service provided by TiVo comes free as part of your TiVo subscription and is available on all TiVo Series 1 to 3 boxes. <br /><br /> It is not quite accurate to say that you can access your TiVo box online. It would be more accurate to say that you can access the box in a rather indirect way. This mentioned service works by letting you access TiVo's <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/web+servers" rel="tag">web servers</a> and by logging into your TiVo account, you can make the changes to what you want recorded. Those changes take place on the servers. <br /><br /> When your TiVo box <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/contact" rel="tag">contact</a>s those web servers (this is done periodically), the entered scheduling information will be downloaded to the DVR and then the actual TiVo box can carry out your instructions to record the TV program of your choice. Now isn't that a clever feature? <br /><br /> You will need experience Even though the system is highly recommended it can create something of a problem for the less experienced users. The TiVo boxes contact the TiVo servers but it is done at <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/irregular+intervals" rel="tag">irregular intervals</a> and therefore the boxes won't necessarily receive your updated instructions in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/time+to+act" rel="tag">time to act</a> on them. You might end up without having the program recorded that you wanted. The number of hours in advance of the program you have to change the instructions via the online service depend solely on what type of TiVo box you own. <br /><br /> If you own the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo+series3" rel="tag">TiVo Series3</a> box it will make contact with your home wireless network every half hour and update the information you have entered with the online service. So you will need to make the changes at least 30 minutes before the show you want recorded is aired. <br /><br /> The TiVo Series1 box requires that you plan ahead because this model connects to TiVo's servers via the phone lines and this is only done once every twenty four hours. So you will need to plan at least a whole day in advance or you might want to consider upgrading to the Series3 version. <br /><br /> Record while on vacation There can be some implications with this kind of technology but it is obvious that if you can make it work for you then it can't be much easier to record the TV shows or sports events that you find out that you have to watch on TV, even though they are going to come on before you get home. <br /><br /> Now you can just contact the TiVo servers via the online service they provide. This will take care of it (assuming your TiVo box is on a wireless network). Even if you are away on an extended holiday, you can update the DVR's instructions for which show you want recorded. <br /><br /> This service is truly valuable but it can some people might argue that with an addition of a SlingBox you can download the contents of your DVR directly over the Internet to your laptop or other portable device. Now this will not be for the ordinary family man that forgot to set the VCR before he left home but if you are truly into the technology behind these things do a Google search on the topic to learn more. <bio>Mikael's site at <a href="http://www.mrieck.com/fiber-optics/" >http://www.mrieck.com/fiber-optics/</a> about fiber optics holds substantial information about the fiber optics technology and every aspect related to fiber optics. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ In a previous article I explained some TiVo remote help tricks to further enhance your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo+experience" rel="tag">TiVo experience</a>. What I would now like to do is to put forth some more advanced tricks for your remote. I have searched around different sites and forums and have found the following for you to use <br /><br /> Control the Power to Your Sound System <br /><br /> The remote can be programmed to control your sound on your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/home+theatre+system" rel="tag">Home Theatre System</a>. The way you can do this is to hold down the TiVo button and the power button like you did when you inputted the TV remote code. You can then enter the remote control code for your sound system and you can now control the on/off features of the audio system and on some models the volume as well <br /><br /> Add unlisted Channels <br /><br /> TiVo provides a method to add channels without the program listings the TiVo provides. For those times when you switch to local on <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/air+programming" rel="tag">air programming</a> or need to play your VCR into your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dvr+system" rel="tag">DVR system</a>, the ability to add a few channels is very handy. To squeeze in your own channels follow these steps; <br /><br /> Enter a channel number manually. Press Record. While recording, press Record to cancel the recording. Repeat for each channel you want to add. Go to Setup, then Channels You Watch Place checkmarks next to each of the channels you entered <br /><br /> This programming will leave behind listings "Now showing" that you may want to delete <br /><br /> Reboot TiVo Without Unplugging <br /><br /> We've all had to reboot a computer here and there whenever something goes wrong. Your TiVo is in the same arena. Go to the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/setup+menu" rel="tag">setup menu</a> and select the "Restart Receiver"; options. This will allow for restart without deleting your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/personal+settings" rel="tag">personal settings</a>. <br /><br /> Tivomatic (Keep Commercials or Get rid of them)A feature that is known as iPreview, TiVo may prompt you to press thumbs up to record during an advertisement. What this feature does is lets you record what is being advertised and then returns to your show. This may come in handy during those <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/super+bowl+commercials" rel="tag">Super Bowl commercials</a>. When you see the prompt, you can do the following; <br /><br /> Press Thumbs Up or Select to bring up the recording screen. Press Clear to make the icon go away until the next preview or you rewind past the point where the preview begins <br /><br /> Get TiVo Connected <br /><br /> There is now TiVoToGo which allows you to download programs to your PC <br /><br /> If you own a TiVo Series 2 box, saving recorded programs to DVD is much simpler--but more costly--with the new TiVoToGo feature. Series 2 TiVos feature a USB port, to which you'll need to connect a USB-to-ethernet or-wireless network adapter (which costs about $30) in order to connect your DVR to your home network. Once you're networked, you'll probably want to sign up for the Home Media Option, which will allow you to program your system remotely. To use TiVoToGo, you need to be sure you've got version 7.1-X or later of software in your device. To check your software version: Go to 'TiVo Central'. Select 'Messages and Setup', then 'System Information' with your remote. If you don't have the latest software, you can go to TiVo.com and request the site to push the upgrade to your unit. While on the site, download and then install the Desktop software. TiVo Desktop collects and presents a list of the programs stored on your DVR and allows you to download them to your PC. While on the site, click the link to download the 15-day free trial of SonicMyDVD--the recommended software for saving recorded programs from your system onto DVD. (It will cost you $49.99 to use after the trial period.) Again, this solution is a bit pricey, but it is the simplest nonhacker-level method to save your favorite shows <br /><br /> I hope this has been a sincere help to you! <bio>If you would like to know more please visit <a href="http://tivotricks.com/TiVo_Remote_Advanced.html" >http://tivotricks.com/TiVo_Remote_Advanced.html</a> Timothy Cashman is an independent reviewer on products and services. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Are you confused with satellite choices? There is no doubt, that satellite is better than cable, and the choice comes down to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/directv" rel="tag">Directv</a> or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+network" rel="tag">Dish Network</a>. Are you ready to find out which service is better? Are you ready to watch the exact selection, of the networks you so earnestly desire? Get ready to make the choice of a lifetime! <br /><br /> When it comes down to choosing between Directv or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dishnetwork" rel="tag">Dishnetwork</a>, you need to focus on what you watch the most! Are you a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sports+fanatic" rel="tag">sports fanatic</a>? Are you a person that likes watching movies, with non-stop action? Do you want programming that is safe for your children? Do you like <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sexy+movies" rel="tag">sexy movies</a>? <br /><br /> Whatever your choice may be, Directv seems to be the sports dominator! If you cannot not live without sports, then Directv is the clear winner! Hands Down! Imagine watching the football game with crystal clear clarity! Picture what your friends will say, when you have Directv, and they come over every sunday! <br /><br /> One impressive point about Dish Network, is the "new" Dish Family! If you are concerned about, what influences your children, then Dish Network will bring "joy" and "fun" to your home. Just think, your children can watch all their favorite shows and you can rest assured, that they will not see any type of violence or bad language. <br /><br /> "Let's face it, kids get curious and this will be one powerful way, you can control what goes into their minds and ears. This is the finest, in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+tv" rel="tag">satellite tv</a> control!" <br /><br /> The pricing for Directv or Dish Network is outstanding, considering the basic packages. You can go with the basic package and pay a small amount every month. Directv offers more, when it comes to sports, with NFL Sunday! <br /><br /> People get afraid of the prices, but when you look at what you really want, it is very easy. Look at how much people pay for cable! Do you want to pay for <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cheap+cable" rel="tag">cheap cable</a> and then six months later, watch as your spending money disappears! This is the satellite tv age, not the cable age. <br /><br /> As both companies get more competitve, you will see more deals and amazing rebates. Both Directv and Dish Network give free products and outstanding rebates. When you compare both networks you will see Directv is the winner! With all the deals, which ever you choose, it will only get better! <br /><br /> You will see a lot of Directv dishes, wherever you live and the reason is customer service! Even more of a reason, is Directv's rebates! You get a free DVR after rebate and Tivo! The DVR allows you to record your favorite shows and movies, while Tivo gives you the ultimate control! <br /><br /> Tivo will automatically find and record programming that you request for later viewing. Imagine a search that can record the show by title, channel, actor, and keword! You can literally watch what you want when you like. Say good bye to the tape-based recorders and hello to watching a program that gives you the option of not recording reruns. Also, you do not have to reprogram every week. Directv gives you the dream and it is for your convenience. <br /><br /> People, the search is over and it is Directv! I love movies and I love being able to watch, what I want, when I want! Directv, combined with Tivo, is a miracle for the lover of movies and sports. You have the selections you want and the price is very affordable. <bio>Copyright © 2006 DeWayne H. On the surface though, it sounds right. <br /><br /> NM isn't pure word of mouth marketing in the way professionals use the term. <br /><br /> According to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/womma" rel="tag">WOMMA</a> (Word of Mouth <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/marketing+association" rel="tag">Marketing Association</a>): <br /><br /> Word of mouth: The act of consumers providing information to other consumers. <br /><br /> But WOMMA warns about 'unethical word of mouth marketing': <br /><br /> Shilling: Paying people to talk about (or promote) a product without disclosing that they are working for the company; impersonating a customer.andquot; <br /><br /> True word of mouth marketing means one person telling another about something they love, without benefitting financially. They tell because they love it, and because they want you love it, too. Plus it's fun to tell friends about new stuff - it gives you social currency, if you will. And the group of people in the know, of which you are a part, gets bigger - because of you. <br /><br /> The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">TIVO</a> craze grew from true and pure word of mouth. People who loved having TIVO raved about it to their friends. But not because they were getting paid, which would have made their raves suspect, but just because they loved it and wanted more people to enjoy it like they were. <br /><br /> So, when you talk about the product you love to another, even though you are using your mouth to talk about it, IF you get paid when someone buys, that's called SALES. <br /><br /> If you don't get paid when you talk about how great a product is, it's word of mouth the way marketers use it. <br /><br /> So here's a way to do word of mouth and not have people surprised at the end when they have to confess that you're sellling it: If you talk about your product, use your mouth to tell right up front that you are marketing it, and tell why -- because of what it did for you, etc. Then when they ask, andquot; So where can I get this product?andquot; you won't have to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/squirm" rel="tag">squirm</a>. And they won't be suspicious of why you told them all those wonderful things about it. <br /><br /> Don't you want to know when someone's getting paid for endorsing things? <br /><br /> Today, celebreties and politicians too, have to disclose that they're being paid when they endorse products on TV even though they use them and love them. Because WE want to know that. Don't we? <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard andamp; Stanford educated. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ Now that all your favorite TV shows have ended and summer is upon us, most of us are finding that we have a little <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/time+on+our+hands" rel="tag">time on our hands</a>. Sure, in the era of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/netflix" rel="tag">Netflix</a>, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">Tivo</a>, and OnDemand TV we might have some of our favorite episodes stored, but who wants to waste even more time sitting in front of the tube. No, I'm not going to recommend that you spend more time in the yard or running on a path in your favorite park. Instead, I think that we should broaden our horizons and create something beautiful for ourselves or for a loved one. Why not get involved in some kind of craft? <br /><br /> I once took a course in college that was entitled, "Leisure And <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/liberal+arts" rel="tag">Liberal Arts</a>". I took the class because it had the word "Leisure" in it, but it was far from a blowoff. The class talked about how the population spends too much time working, and when they aren't working, most spent their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/spare+time" rel="tag">spare time</a> in front of the TV. The premise of the class was the idea of a world where people spent their spare time learning liberal arts, such as poetry, art, or learning to play an instrument. Nice idea, but who has the time right? <br /><br /> Well, getting setup in a local art class can take less time out of your day than you would think. Most people that I teach are surprised at how quickly they progress after just a summer course. It actually is quite amazing at the things that you can create with your hands when you give it a little focused effort. And as strange as it sounds, doing something that's out of your comfort zone or something that you weren't aware that you could do builds tremendous confidence. I have students that have branched into taking one course/class a year and over the past five years have built up some <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/impressive+skills" rel="tag">impressive skills</a>, like piano or guitar. After just a few years, they become a regular renaissance man/woman! <br /><br /> So before you start tearing through your saved episodes on TIVO, open up the list of classes at the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/local+community+college" rel="tag">local community college</a> and see what's available. While spending a couple hours may not seem like the best way to spend a summer, think about the beauty you'll be adding to the world when you're done with your first piece. Ah! My professor would be so proud! <bio>Jim operates the site at <a href="http://www.scstainedglass.com/stglgr.html" >http://www.scstainedglass.com/stglgr.html</a> where they sell various stained glass supplies and tools. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Eenie meenie, miney mo - to which satellite TV service shall I go? Choosing between <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/direct+tv" rel="tag">Direct TV</a> (it is really called Directv) and the Dish Network is like deciding which political party is more corrupt than the other. It is all a matter of your perception of the programming and preference. Is one really better than the other? Not really. They even have similar marketing promotions like a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/free+satellite+tv" rel="tag">free satellite TV</a> system when you purchase their satellite TV receiver or buy a certain programming package. <br /><br /> If you go by the number of customers alone, Directv would the outstanding choice. However, that is not necessarily true. They just have a lot more money to spend on advertising. How about price? Should you go by price alone to decide on a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+dish+network" rel="tag">satellite dish network</a> or a Direct satellite TV? The answer is no. Each of these <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+tv+providers" rel="tag">satellite TV providers</a> offers something a little different, which could make or break the choice, depending on preference. There is that pesky 'preference' thing again! <br /><br /> First of all, let us look at what they both have in common. Both companies present similar deals like free installation or a free <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+tv+system" rel="tag">satellite TV system</a>. When it comes to movie and local television programming, the pricing is practically the same. Both the Dish Network and Direct TV offer DVR or digital video recording. With your Direct satellite TV however, you could upgrade to the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/directv+tivo" rel="tag">Directv Tivo</a> option for a nominal fee. <br /><br /> The differentiation is in the programming offered to subscribers. If you are aiming for a more international flavor, then the Dish Network would be your best bet. They have networks available in foreign markets that are broadcast in a variety of languages. So if you have transplanted yourself in the United States from somewhere else, chances are you might be able to catch the news and other shows from your homeland. Direct TV does have some foreign programming, mostly on the movie channels, but not the scope that the Dish Network offers. <br /><br /> Now, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/directv+subscribers" rel="tag">Directv subscribers</a> have a plethora of options when it comes to American sports. Football, baseball, hockey, NASCAR .... these are important to sports fans. When the major sports have play-offs like the NFL or NBA, you can count on those rabid sports fans purchasing a 'pass' which buys a whole block of games. The Dish Network does offer sports, but they are more global in their choices. You will likely find rugby, lacrosse and soccer just as much as the football or baseball. They just don't have as much of a selection. So, if sports are your thing, then going for a Directv dish and satellite system is the best choice for you. <br /><br /> Now you have a perspective from both sides of the two major satellite TV service providers. Both offer similar programming. It is choosing the little things that will influence your decision. Think about the Directv Tivo option. Think about the future possibility of Directv HDTV. If having these things in the future is important, then perhaps your mind is already made up, unlike that decision about which political party is more corrupt ... <bio>James Croydon, Satellite Installation Engineer and DirecTV DSL advisor at f-Tech Associates ( <a href="http://www.directv-dish-network-satellite.com">http://www.directv-dish-network-satellite.com</a> ) publishes other articles related to DirecTV DSL at <a href="http://www.cheap-satellite-tv.com">http://www.cheap-satellite-tv.com</a> and <a href="http://www.satellitetvstore.com">http://www.satellitetvstore.com</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Are you interested in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cavs+karaoke" rel="tag">CAVS Karaoke</a> DVD-203G Player? We have rigorously examined and tested the CAVS DVD-203G USB in both home and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/professional+environments" rel="tag">professional environments</a> and their are a few important points to consider when evaluating this model. Karaoke addicts, Junkies, enthusiasts and professionals alike will value this in depth look at a new technology. <br /><br /> There has been lots of talk about the CAVS <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/karaoke+players" rel="tag">Karaoke Players</a> so we thought we'd take the time to test one of the more popular models. The DVD-203G USB has all the usual features like 2 <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/mic+inputs" rel="tag">mic inputs</a> with echo, programmable song ordering, numeric keypad to access any number song, parental control, digital Key control and Voice cancelling on multiplex discs but here we'll cover pros and cons on important points of interest. <br /><br /> CONS <br /><br /> Professionals will not use the supplied <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/microphone" rel="tag">microphone</a>. To my ear, as a professional I like to use high quality mics so the singers always sound their best. That being said, the average "consumer ear" may find that the supplied CAVS microphone sounds just fine. <br /><br /> There are no fancy video graphics like you see with the 12" <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/laser+discs" rel="tag">laser discs</a>. What you get is backup tracks of CD quality music with the song's lyrics on your monitor or TV. <br /><br /> There are several ala carte extras to consider before buying a CAVS DVD-203G USB as follows: <br /><br /> The unit has two mic inputs but only comes with one microphone as was mentioned above. You might want a second for all those duets. <br /><br /> Most packages include 1 disc (up to 1250 songs) so if you want more discs they can cost between $70 - $200 <br /><br /> The USB port is for an external hard drive which is NOT included so that will cost $100+ depending on the size but you could fit up to 100,000 songs or more on the bigger ones. <br /><br /> An Audio/Video cable is included but any additional cables for example; SVideo, Coaxial or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/optical+cables" rel="tag">Optical cables</a> will have to be purchased separately. <br /><br /> In order to make your own SCDGs you need additional software for around $49 or a deluxe version for $69 from the manufacturer. <br /><br /> PROS <br /><br /> The CAVS DVD-203G USB is an average sized components which fits nicely into a home entertainment system or pro rack. It can replace an AC3 Dolby Digital DVD Player and/or 500 CD Carousel. It easily hooked up to my TIVO via the front side AV inputs (White-Red-Yellow RCA plugs) but those without TIVO should look for the same jacks on their VCR or right on the TV. You can also use an S Video connection or the RCA A/V jacks on your home stereo and TV combo. The professionals use the mixer and video directly to a video monitor or video patch bayto sync multiple TVs. <br /><br /> Plays every format: DVD/VCD/SCDG/CD+G/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/JPEG/Kodak Photo CD <br /><br /> Excellent sound and arrangement Quality - We tested the Sweet Georgia Brown Magic Tracks with 1208 songs and the quality of the sound and the musical arrangements were excellent. <br /><br /> SuperCDGs can be played on your computer. Each retail disc comes with a self contained PC program which loads and plays the hundreds and thousands of songs allowing you to do a karaoke show with just your (DVD equipped) PC or Laptop. <br /><br /> It's possible to Make your own SuperCDGs from your old CD+G library or from your MP3 collection of non-Karaoke songs with the optional software. <br /><br /> With the CAVS DVD-203G USB Player you can also hook up to an optional CAVS 60, 160 or 250 Gigabyte hard drive for a whopping storage capacity of 100,000 songs. <br /><br /> For the Professional: <br /><br /> Save Money from buying so many discs Save Time from changing discs between singers Save Pain from carrying hundreds of discs in cases Save the headache from dealing with scratched discs when you swap them out since the need to swap discs it virtually eliminated. <br /><br /> Mix-Down allows you to make studio type output of your performance to an external recorder or computer <br /><br /> In Conclusion <br /><br /> The trade-offs do not outweigh the values. There were a few added costs for a hard drive and some additional SCDG discs but we now have an expandable system which plays SCDGs. With this unit, the only thing that sets the pros apart from the amateurs is the '7 Rules to Hosting a CAVS Karoke Party' <bio>You may visit his site to find out more information about the CAVS DVD-203G USB Karaoke Machines for Karaoke Maniacs.Danny will be offering articles with tips and tricks from first hand experience. This is by no means anything against the male gender; simply put men are ten times more likely to buy certain gadgets than women are. However, throughout the years there have been many extremely <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/popular" rel="tag">popular</a> gadgets, which have become extremely popular for both men and women. Gadgets are typically expensive when they are first released, then years later they are extremely cheap. For example, in 1979 Sony released the Walkman, this was new and exciting for users, it was considered a luxury item. The Walkman originally sold for $200, this hard to imagine in this day in age, when we can purchase them for $10 or $20. <br /><br /> Another extremely popular gadget in today's society is the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/apple+ipod" rel="tag">Apple iPod</a>, this gadget was released in 2001. When the iPod first appeared on the market, it was simply a tiny electronic that only possessed a hard drive with 5GB and a wheel that mechanically scrolled, only available for Macs. This $399 gadget has evolved to 80 GB hard drives and video capabilities. <br /><br /> Other popular gadgets include <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">TiVo</a>, which has taken the place of another popular gadget the VCR, and the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/palmpilot" rel="tag">PalmPilot</a> has made the way for busy execs to keep track of all their business ventures from one day to the next. The CD player and the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cellular+phone" rel="tag">cellular phone</a> are still extremely popular gadget that keep getting better and better. There are more features than ever with the cellular phone and the CD player is a fixture in nearly every home world wide. <br /><br /> No matter what gadget you choose there is something for everyone. There are gadgets for children, men, women, young, old and everywhere in between. Little gadgets and large gadgets, the electronic world is always inventing new and exciting things for consumers to enjoy and help simplify their lives. <bio>Ginster-Web Shopping, <a href="http://www.ginster-web.com/shopping">http://www.ginster-web.com/shopping</a>, is a specialized electronic outlet, offering many of all the latest in electronic technology available today. <content:encoded><![CDATA[When a friend or co-worker tells you about a product she likes, as women do, and you then bought it too, how would you feel if you found out afterwards that she'd been paid to tell you? <br /><br /> Most private product talk among women is not commercial. Among men, either. Think <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">TIVO</a>, iPod, movies or restaurants - people refer those to each other because they love them, not because they get paid to do it. <br /><br /> If they did get compensated somehow, and you found out later, would you be as trusting of their next referral? <br /><br /> People telling each other about products they like, like TIVO, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ipods" rel="tag">iPods</a>, or other products has been referred to in the past as <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/word+of+mouth" rel="tag">word of mouth</a> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/advertising" rel="tag">advertising</a> or word of mouth marketing. <br /><br /> The trust that the recommendation is not secretly motivated in anyway by compensation from a third party is what makes it a recommendation accepted at face value from people who know and trust each other. That's what makes it so valuable to product manufacturers and marketers. Some of them, like Apple, try to make products remarkable enough that people will WANT to tell others about them. <br /><br /> Others pay to manufacture that word of mouth. They use people who are members of a group, like Moms, or Teens, and pay them to do so-called word of mouth. <br /><br /> Often, these newly created word-of-mouthers don't tell the others that they're being compensated, and that's where the question arises: Would you feel manipulated if you gave your trust to a friend's recommendation, bought the product, and then later found out that the friend got paid to talk it up to you? <br /><br /> You no doubt know that marketers are not a very credible bunch these days. One of the most popular business books today is entitled, All Marketers are <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/liars" rel="tag">Liars</a> ( <a href="http://www.bananamarketing.com/library.html">http://www.bananamarketing.com/library.html</a> ) <br /><br /> So now, must we add "All Friends are Liars"? <br /><br /> Proctor and Gamble Co. has quietly come out with an advertising program, Vocalpoint, that is such a manufactured word of mouth campaign. It was developed to pitch its own and other companies' products. ( <a href="<a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a>"><a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a></a> ) <br /><br /> PandG has recruited 600,000 women into their new advertising army over the past year or two. All moms. All on the take. Here's how the company is using them: <br /><br /> "By crafting product messages mothers will want to share, along with giving them samples, coupons, and a chance to share their own opinions with PandG, the Cincinnati consumer-product giant is using personal endorsements to cut through advertising clutter." <br /><br /> And, says the company, <br /><br /> "We know that the most powerful form of marketing is an advocacy message from a trusted friend,"says Steve Knox, Vocalpoint's CEO ( <a href="<a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a>"><a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a></a> ) <br /><br /> Right. So let's exploit that, he says. They're not his friends to lose. They're yours. <br /><br /> Ask yourself one question and you will know if you like this: Would you give your trust as freely to the recommendations of someone you know, if you can't be sure up front if they're on the take or not, for whatever product they're talking about? <br /><br /> Aside from the possible loss of trust between friends, <br /><br /> "...Vocalpoint also raises a serious ethical issue: Should the person spreading the product message disclose her affiliation?" <br /><br /> The Word of Mouth Marketing Association Code of Ethics requires "connectors" like these moms to disclose who they work for. But PandG does not require these women to do that. And many don't. <br /><br /> Ethics and morals aside, ask yourself: Do you want to be able to trust a friend's recommendation to be motivated by nothing other than the interest she has in telling about something she thought you'd like to know about? <br /><br /> If you found out later that she DID get paid, in money or free product, would you weigh her recommendation differently next time? <br /><br /> If you, like me, would take any future recommendations from this person with a giant grain of salt, then we all know this gal has lost something she once had - my freely given, no strings attached, trust. This is not a good thing. <br /><br /> The FTC is looking into it... ( <a href="<a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a>"><a href="<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a>"><a href="http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm">http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_22/b3986060.htm</a></a></a> ) <br /><br /> P.S. Telling your connection up front is always good policy. And that's of course why I suggest that when you are introducing your product to others, you let them know right up front that you are marketing it and why - because it's helped you, say - and now you've decided to make a business marketing it - so you can do good AND make some income. (That's all laid out in the If My Product's So Great, How Come I Can't Sell It? book and CD program. <a href="http://www.bananamarketing.com/3scriptscd.html">http://www.bananamarketing.com/3scriptscd.html</a> ) <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard and Stanford educated. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ In their forward looking book, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cluetrain+manifesto" rel="tag">Cluetrain Manifesto</a>, the authors list 95 challenging and enlightening <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/marketing" rel="tag">marketing</a> rules ("theses") for both companies and marketers. <br /><br /> As an independent contractor, you get to play both roles. <br /><br /> Here are two big ones to challenge you right now: <br /><br /> "#34. To speak with a human voice, companies must share the concerns of their communities. <br /><br /> #35. But first, they must belong to a community." <br /><br /> Community: A group of people having <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/common+interests" rel="tag">common interests</a>: the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/scientific+community" rel="tag">scientific community</a>; the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/international+business+community" rel="tag">international business community</a>. <br /><br /> Challenge: Given what you are marketing now, who is YOUR community? What are some common interests you might have with others, that would bind you all to (some aspect of) what you market? <br /><br /> This is akin to knowing you have a bias, a strong interest or leaning, as in the scientific community, the arts community, the Christian or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/buddhist+community" rel="tag">Buddhist community</a>... <br /><br /> Members of any vibrant community are people who have a strong (not just a passing) interest in their beliefs about it, and its leaders seek to grow the community ever larger. <br /><br /> How would you describe the 'community' you are part of, as it relates to your product or business? <br /><br /> It starts with you. Marketing as a means to discover and grow a community of like minds is not marketing as usual: No more "them versus us." No more feeling of marketer as hunter cornering its prey, who, as a group are doing their best to hide (e.g. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/do+not+call+registry" rel="tag">Do Not Call Registry</a>, Tivo, Caller ID) or become more immune to these attempts at fake communication (they just glaze over). <br /><br /> Here's what it IS about: US finding more of US. <br /><br /> Once you have defined YOUR interest, or hot button, as it relates to your product, then you can legitimately, authentically and credibly reach out and find others who'd fit right into your (virtual) community. And of course let them know up front you are marketing something that might be of interest to them, because it was, to you. <br /><br /> Assignment: How would you describe the common interest that defines the community YOU belong to, as it relates to what you market? Someone who... <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard and Stanford educated. Even if we do not realize it, just about everywhere we go, and everything we do electronics in some form shape the way we do it. For example, when you are traveling to and from work, the vehicle you are in is made up of various forms of electronics. The music you listen to, obviously you have to listen to it on a Radio, Cassette Player, CD player, or Computer. The way the music you listen to is made, all with electronics. In this day and age of technology, our lives is driven greatly by electronic means. <br /><br /> Typically, we do not even stop to think about how much of a role these things play in our lives. When we use that cordless phone to call up our friends, when we log onto the computer to check our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/email" rel="tag">email</a>, and when we watch our favorite shows on the television, these are all electronics. It is amazing is it not, when you actually stop to consider all the things we use on a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/daily+basis" rel="tag">daily basis</a>? Of course, if the power goes out and there are no battery backups, we take major note of these items that seem to make living our lives a whole lot easier. <br /><br /> Electronics have evolved since conception from the tape player to the CD player, from the VCR to the DVD Player and entire <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/home+entertainment+centers" rel="tag">home entertainment centers</a>, from an integrated speaker to surround sound all over the home, and from the television to instant replay and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tivo" rel="tag">TiVo</a>. We rely on many electronics without even being fully aware of it in our daily lives and for entertainment. <br /><br /> Think about it electronics are used everywhere, our place of business, our law enforcement and rescue units, our government, all the way down to the traffic signals and emergency response systems. When electronics were invented, it made us so dependant upon them, which would be extremely hard for us to imagine living without them. Many of them are used for our entertainment <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/watching+television" rel="tag">watching television</a> with our families, listening to our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/favorite+music" rel="tag">favorite music</a>, playing video games, or watching a new DVD. We can even record our own movies with a Camcorder or take digital photographs for sharing instantly. <br /><br /> As you can see electronics have made living our lives much more simple and easy to do, without them it would seem that we were back in the Old West! <bio>Ginster-Web Shopping, <a href="http://www.ginster-web.com/shopping">http://www.ginster-web.com/shopping</a>, is a specialized electronic outlet, offering many of all the latest in electronic technology available today. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ For the past several years I've focused on who has the cheapest <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/satellite+tv+service" rel="tag">satellite TV service</a>, and for a long time <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+network" rel="tag">Dish Network</a> was king in terms of low cost television, but times are changing and so are the prices. Instead of looking at the bottom line cost, consumers now need to dig a little deeper to find the best value in programming packages. You'll be much happier, and get a better value when you consider options over price. <br /><br /> Starting with the basics, DirecTV and Dish Network offer a similar hardware package with installation in four rooms and optional DVR, HDTV, or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hd+dvr+receiver" rel="tag">HD DVR receiver</a> upgrades. DVR is short for <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digital+video+recorder" rel="tag">digital video recorder</a>. If you're familiar with Tivo, it does the same thing. An <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hdtv+receiver" rel="tag">HDTV receiver</a> decodes <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/high+definition+television" rel="tag">high definition television</a> signals. You can get these separately, or together on a single device with both capabilities built in. <br /><br /> Programming packages are where the rubber meets the road, and it can get a little confusing. Both providers offer a very basic programming package of 40 to 45 channels. Unless you live in the country or rural area where cable is not available, these are not very good options since most cable companies offer basic cable for close to the same price but with more channels. The real value is found in their featured programming packages. <br /><br /> Typically, Dish Network is slightly less costly than DirecTV, but as you move up the line of programming you'll notice they start to level out, and currently DirecTV offers a wider selection, more channels, and a better price on it's high end programming. You'll just have to decide which merchant has more of the TV stations and shows you and your family enjoy watching the most. It doesn't make sense to have two hundred channels if you only watch five. <br /><br /> One last thing to consider is the hardware you have chosen in relationship to the type of programming you want, or equipment you already have in your home. If you do not have an HD ready television set, it is null in point to get any HD hardware or programming as part of your package. You don't need any special equipment to use a DVR, but there is an additional fee for the service, so this will be something you'll need to decide if you can live without or not. <br /><br /> In the end neither is cheaper than the other when you factor in you and your family's usage and expectations of the product. The trick is to get what you want the first time. Get something you will enjoy, and a package you will make the most use of, at a price you can live with. I emphasize "live with" because the cheapest package may not be the best value for your personal needs. Look at the big picture, not the name, before you decide who to go with for satellite TV, and you'll get your best overall value in the long run. <bio>Daymon Hoag is the founder of <a href="http://www.phonetvinternet.com" >http://www.phonetvinternet.com</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[What's an <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/rss+feed" rel="tag">RSS feed</a>? <br /><br /> Due to the overwhelming amount of spam on the internet, many users are turning from traditional newsletter subscriptions to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/rss+feeds" rel="tag">RSS feeds</a> to get their information. RSS is Really Simple Syndication. Besides connecting you directly to your customers, feeds are advantageous for several reasons: <br /><br /> • They update automatically. Anytime you publish a new article or blog, your readers receive it with no effort on their part, or yours. <br /><br /> • Unlike an <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/email+campaign" rel="tag">email campaign</a>, they don't force you to contend with costly black lists and spam filters. <br /><br /> • They're a 100% opt-in marketing tool. Your documents are transmitted in a mark-up language that requires your subscribers to download a reader, like <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/bloglines" rel="tag">Bloglines</a> or FeedDemon, to translate them. So all your subscribers really want the information you're providing. <br /><br /> Where Is This Going?--The Future of RSS <br /><br /> Bill Flitter, founder of RSS analytics engine <a href="http://<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/pheedo" rel="tag">Pheedo</a>.com" >http://Pheedo.com</a>, suggests, in the near future, feeds will become much simpler and more user-friendly. Says Flitter, "Once RSS becomes a little bit easier, I think we'll see a huge surge in its use." <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/firefox" rel="tag">Firefox</a> and Safari are already RSS-enabled, and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/internet+explorer" rel="tag">Internet Explorer</a> and Outlook will be soon. <br /><br /> Expect to see individualized RSS feeds gain popularity--customized feeds where a user can choose what kind of content comes through to them. Flitter projects, "I think we'll see...individual subscriptions increase so you can send information that's more relevant to that end user... like Tivo for the web." <br /><br /> Another likely change is that news readers will allow you to customize the look of your feed, rather than translating every one alike. You'll be able to brand your feed, change its style, and differentiate it from every other feed so your customers can recognize it easily. <br /><br /> How Can I Use RSS for My EBiz? <br /><br /> Use feeds to send newsletters, product promos, blogs, and special offers. You can create your content using any blog platform--Type Pad, Word Press, Movable Type. They all generate RSS feeds--your only job is choosing the content. The important thing is to keep your content fresh and relevant to your audience, because with one click they can unsubscribe. Try to balance generating sales with sharing interesting info and useful tips. <bio>Chris Malta and Robin Cowie of WorldwideBrands.com are the Writers and Hosts of The Entrepreneur Magazine EBiz and Product Sourcing Radio Shows. <a href="http://www.worldwidebrands.com/EMRinfo" >http://www.worldwidebrands.com/EMRinfo</a> for more FREE eBiz info from Entrepreneur Magazine Radio! </bio>]]></content:encoded>
