As many pet owners know, fleas and ticks can be common in your furry friends and cause itching and misery. Fleas are tiny, almost microscopic, and can be responsible for allergic dermatitis in some pets. And fleas also carry diseases.

Ticks are also very small and attach themselves to your pet, engorging themselves on its blood until full. They are found everywhere, especially in places with high humidity and moderate temperatures. Ticks can carry diseases, including Lyme disease, which are hazardous for both people and their pets.

Fleas can live in many places within your home. They lay eggs which hatch and feed on flea feces. If you do not treat your pet, your house can easily become infested in a short period of time. To check your dog or cat for possible flea infestation, you can either shake their fur over a white paper towel or brush them with a flea comb. If you see black specks, these are probably flea droppings. An animal with fleas is usually nervous and will scratch excessively. If you have more than one cat or dog, they will probably all be infested. One adult flea can lay up to 50 eggs at once and over 2000 in her lifetime!

Ticks and the diseases transmitted by them can cause various symptoms including fever, loss of appetite, lameness, depression or lethargy, arthritis or swollen joints. Ticks should be removed with tweezers and saved for the veterinarian to examine. Your pet will need a blood test if it has a disease transmitted by a tick.

Fortunately, there is a safe, easy and proven method to rid all fleas and ticks from your pet. First you should bring your dog or cat to a veterinarian to be examined. You can control existing fleas or ticks and prevent future infestations using a Frontline=AE product. By applying this every month, you can prevent fleas and ticks from returning.

Frontline=AE quickly kills fleas and keeps your pet totally flea- and tick-free for a month. The products are waterproof and gentle enough to use on kittens or puppies over 8 weeks of age. You can choose from a range of Frontline=AE products, such as Frontline Spray, Frontline Topspot and Frontline Plus. Frontline Plus completely breaks the flea lifecycle, to stop all stages of fleas from becoming a nuisance. It also kills all 4 types of ticks to leave your pet fully protected.

Try Frontline=AE products =96 your pet will thank you for it! <bio>By Renske Buursma, pet store owner with lots of helpful articles about pet care at http://yourhealthypetsonline.com </bio>

Ticks can be a major nuisance to your pet and can cause a number of different diseases. In fact, ticks are one of the most problematic of parasites when it comes to transmitting disease. Therefore, in order to keep your pet safe and healthy, it is important to know how to properly remove them and prevent them from using your pet as a host.

Preventing Ticks

There are numerous things you can do to help prevent ticks from infesting your pet. One of the first steps you can take is to make certain the environment is not one in which ticks will flourish. For example, you should be particularly cautious when taking your pet for a walk through the woods, particularly in areas with low brush and tall grass. Certain parts of the country, such as the northeast, have a higher incidence of ticks. Therefore, when traveling in these areas, be certain to wear tick repellent and to have your pet properly protected as well.

There are many different types of products that you can use to help prevent ticks, some of which are available over the counter and some of which need to be prescribed by a veterinarian. These include:

• Sprays
• Dips
• Shampoos
• Powders
• Topical Medications

With the help of these products, you can prevent tick infestation while also making it easier to detach a tick if it does become attached to your pet.

Removing Ticks

If a tick does become attached to your pet, it is important to know how to properly remove the tick. This way, you can remove it completely and safely. In order to remove a tick from your pet, follow these procedures:

• Put on a pair of gloves or otherwise take steps to make certain your skin does not make contact with the tick
• Use a pair of tweezers or a special tick removal device to grab the tick in the area near to its head
• Pull the tick out with slow, gentle pressure
• If the head remains in the skin, grab it with the tweezers and remove it as well

It should be noted that skin often comes off when removing a tick, so don't be alarmed if this occurs. In some cases, you may not be able to remove the tick's head if it becomes detached. This generally is not a cause for concern, as your pet's immune system will expel the head by creating a small abscess or infection. If you are concerned about the area or if a remaining tick part does not seem to be getting expelled from the pet's body, you may want to contact your veterinarian.

It is important to note that there are several myths about alternate methods for removing ticks. Applying heat or nail polish to the area, for example, are popular myths for tick removal. Neither of these methods is effective for tick removal and should not be utilized. Rather, stick with removing the tick with tweezers in order to achieve the best results.<bio>CS Swarens is the CEO of Find a Pet Online. 800 998-7065 For additional information on dogs, cats, birds, horses, and exotic pets visit the internet's resource for pets for sale. If I've got a tweezers available, I'll just grab the little bugger, pull him out (or at least irritate him enough so he releases his grip), then throw him on the barn floor. Then step on him. Hard. When you feel the "click," no more tick!

When Ticks Are Hard To See, But You Know They're There...

But some ticks manage to find their way deep into your horse's ear canal. Sometimes they're so deep you can't reach them, even with a tweezers. A situation like this is actually more dangerous to your horse than a surface tick.

If a tick penetrates that far into your horses ear, it can cause an ear canal infection, or a perforated ear drum. I don't know about your horse, but Rosie will have none of that.

If your horse is the same way, you can try some anti-tick dust (sometimes called tick powder). State Line Tack sells a few varieties.
Camping outside in the woods or forest with your family, friends, and loved ones can be a very enjoyable experience. Whether sitting around the campfire and telling stories or bird watching and exploring nature, being outdoors can leave you with unforgettable memories. Now what memories you will leave with depends on how well you are prepared. If a camper is not knowledgeable about his surroundings, nature can give some pretty nasty surprises. Below are some advice and tips that will help you avoid certain situations that can damper your trip.

Bugs go away.

Bugs are always a very annoying problem for a lot of campers. These critters keep flying around your food, and buzzing in your ears. Also let's not forget about more serious problems from some insects, like mosquitoes, which love to bite and give you itchy bumps. Then there are lice and ticks which can pass on diseases. Here are some tips to help keep the bugs away.

1. Try not to use fragrant lotions or products. Sweet smells attract insects.

2. Try to stay cool. Bugs are attracted to sweat.

3. Bring bug repellant/ Sunscreen. Just don't use too much,

4. Avoid eating bananas -- this fruit secretes an odor through your pours which attracts mosquitoes.

5. Use coconut oil -- this repels mosquitoes

Beware of Ticks

Ticks can be a problem due to the fact they can spread diseases. Ways to prevent yourself from exposure to ticks is to avoid grassy areas, wear a hat, and do not wear shorts when you are on a trail. You should check for ticks and if detected remove it as early as possible. If you find a tick attached to your skin, use tweezers close to your skin as possible and pull off the tick, but do not squeeze its body. You should have the doctor check the bite as soon as possible. Ticks can spread diseases such as Lyme disease and ehrlichiosis to humans, which is fatal if not treated.

General Advice

Here is some useful advice that is good to know on every camping or outdoor trip or vacation:

1. Bring and keep a picture of the travelers with you, in case anyone gets lost.

2. When hiking remember to bring some water, food, a flashlight, and bandages.

3. Never hike by yourself.

4. 80% of your body heat is lost through your head, so to keep warm, wear a hat.

The advices I gave in this article I consider very important in helping to keep your outdoors experience an enjoyable one.
Being clean today is part of everyone's busy schedule. It is something that we as people do every day in order to maintain ourselves after we spend a whole day getting dirty. This same rule of thumb applies to little puppies. They spend plenty of time running around either outside or in your home. They spend most of their time on the floor or rolling around somewhere that is probably less than clean. This isn't something that is so serious but without good care it can become something that can escalate to other things such as fleas and ticks. These two things can be something that can be very harmful to a dog let alone a young puppy. The reason for this is because fleas and ticks carry with them many diseases that your puppy would be better off not having. They can cause all sorts of problems that your puppy shouldn't have to deal with at this stage in his life. Fortunately there are plenty of things you can do to prevent this from happening to him.

Fleas and ticks are usually more active in the summer but that doesn't stop them from spreading around other times in the year. This is especially true if your puppy is exposed to another dog that has either fleas, ticks, or both. If you suspect that your friends have a dog that has fleas or ticks make sure you act quickly because all it takes is one visit to bring this on. All it takes is just a bit of close contact to have your puppy get infected. It's something that you wouldn't see coming until it happens to you. There are many flea and tick medications but most of them are not suitable for use on a puppy that hasn't even matured yet.

There are many things that you can do to prevent these infections from happening. One of the most beneficial would be to give your puppy weekly or biweekly showers. For one thing, it will help keep them clean and smelling great. You really can't keep an eye out on them all the time and there will be times where they get into things that aren't exactly great. Giving those weekly showers is a great way to keep their coats shiny and fresh as well as flush out anything that might be infesting them as we speak. When you shower them, make sure you use soap that is appropriate for their age and coats. When you have the soap in your hands make sure that when you massage it in you go against the hair in order to try and loosen up anything that might be there.

Another thing that you can also do is invest in a brush that you can use to groom them. It doesn't matter if they have short hair or long hair. It is great way to brush lose anything that might be lingering on his skin and coat. Keeping them clean and healthy is something that shouldn't be skimped on.<bio>This author lives in Flemington, NJ with her husband and 5 month old daughter and is an expert contributing author for a luxury dog feeders boutique offering variety of dog beds and personalized dog beds.</bio>

External parasites are common among most dogs. An external parasite is an insect that lives off the blood supply of the host. The common parasites found on dogs are; fleas, ticks, mites and lice.

Fleas

Fleas are parasites and derive most of their food supply from their hosts. Fleas not only feed off dogs, but will bite just about any other mammal they come in contact with, including humans. A dog that has a heavily infestation will scratch themselves constantly which leads to other secondary skin problems. Fleas are also a host for and infect your dog with tapeworms, an internal parasite.

When fleas are fall off or are removed from a host for a period of time, they don't have a food source. As a result, the hungry fleas will attack the first warm-blooded creature that comes near and often times, this mean biting people. The adult fleas live on blood and must have a blood meal in order to reproduce.

In order to get rid of fleas some people try using a flea comb, but this is not very effective and it's also very time consuming. Most dog owners prefer to use a flea shampoo to attack the problem. Shampooing your dog also gets rid of the skin flakes that fall on the ground and act as food for the flea larvae. Flea collars and topical medications are not as effective as shampooing or dipping, but have been shown to help prevent re-infestation.

Ticks

Dog ticks are another parasite that feeds on blood. Dogs usually get ticks from bushes and shrubbery. These ticks are usually found in the ears, around your the neck or in the creases on the inside of the leg. The ticks can be removed with a pair of small tweezers, but try not to crush the tick while removing as this may cause its saliva to enter the dog's body, creating a possibility of skin irritation or infection. Remove the parasite as gently as possible.

The dog tick is the primary carrier of diseases like canine ehrlichiosis, and in some cases rocky mountain spotted fever, a disease that is also very dangers to humans. Your dogs should be examined closely for ticks on at least a weekly basis if it spends anytime at all outdoors.

Mites

Mites are microscopic parasites that burrow their way into the dog's body through the skin. All dogs normally have a small population of mites living on their body. However, a condition called Mange can develop if your dog's immune system is not working properly. If you see your dog is losing hair and patches of bare skin are visible, you need to have it checked thoroughly by a vet. A lot of diseases can cause hair loss, so it doesn't necessarily mean your pet has Mange. But only a vet can tell for sure.

Severe scratching is another sign to watch out for. If your dog scratches a lot, you need to have it checked. Also, as the mite population gets out of control, your dog may take on a strange athlete's foot-like odor.

Ivermectin, a commonly used de-wormer is the most common treatment for Mange. The medication is usually administered orally, but it can be injected under the skin. In sever cases, your vet will usually institute a regimen of medicated shampoo treatments.<bio>Garry Neale is and avid dog enthusiast and creator of the popular e-book, "The Dog Lovers Guide", a FREE dog owners handbook you can download at no cost from his Dog Lover Website.</bio>

Ticks are tiny arthropods that suck blood from animals and humans. Ticks live in tall grasses, trees, leaf litter, shrubs and sometimes in your own backyard. Ticks do not have the ability to fly or jump. What they do instead is wait patiently for a host to walk past them and grab onto the host's skin or fur and crawl to a suitable spot to feed on the host's blood Ticks have the amazing ability to dig into the host's skin to suck blood without detection as it does not cause any pain to the host in the early stages. The average time a soft-bodied tick stays on the host's skin is a couple of hours but the hard-bodied tick can stay on the host's skin for up to 2 weeks.

Although it is very rare to contract disease from ticks, they have been known to spread the following disease to man:

- Babesiosis - Rocky mountain spotted fever - Lyme disease - Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE) - Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME) - Colorado tick fever - Relapsing fever - Q fever - Tick paralysis - Tularemia

The type of disease contracted depends on the location, type of tick, duration of the tick's attachment to the host's skin and season of the year.

How To Remove Ticks On Your Own

1. Use some antiseptic like isopropyl alcohol to clean the tick bite area. 2. Wear a pair of PVC gloves if possible and use a pair of forceps or tweezers to clench the tick close to the skin of it's head. Be careful not to wriggle, jolt or crush the tick. 3. Pull the tick straight out and apply a steady amount of pressure until the tick lets go. 4. Use a disinfected needle to extract the tick's head or any other body part that was broken off in the skin. 5. Apply some antibiotic cream onto the bite wound and area around it. 6. Wash your hands thoroughly with antiseptic soap like Dettol to kill any traces of germs on your hands and fingers. 7. If possible, insert the abstracted tick into a container and bring it to a doctor for identification.

When Should You Get A Doctor?

- You fail to remove the tick or part of the tick from the skin. - You develop a fever, rash, headache, muscle pains, joint pains or flu-like symptoms 2 to 14 days after the tick bite. - You develop widespread rashes 2 to 14 days after the tick bite. - You develop redness, pus, swelling or yellow drainage from the tick bite wound 1 to 2 days after the tick bite. - You develop a red-ring or a bull's eye rash around the tick bite wound 3 to 30 days after the tick bite. - You have trouble moving your legs. - You feel sickly and want to make sure your sickness is not related to your tick bite. <bio>Visit Natalie's Skin Disease Archive (http://www.skindiseasearchive.com/) for more tips on how to deal with a variety of skin diseases. </bio>

Lyme disease is primarily spread to both dogs and humans through the bite of an infected tick. Many different species of ticks can be involved, including the deer tick, the western black-legged tick, and the black legged tick. Ticks are tiny parasites that are difficult to see with the naked eye and can easily hide on people and pets.

Ticks, however, are not the only way the disease can be spread, fleas and other biting insects are capable of spreading it as well. There have been incidents in which Lyme disease has been transmitted by direct contact with infected body fluids. This ease of transmission has made Lyme disease one of the most commonly reported tick-borne diseases.

The symptoms of Lyme disease in dogs include lethargy, loss of appetite, high fever, swollen lymph nodes and joint, and/or a sudden onset of lameness. Veterinarians have the ability to test for this disease in house and should be consulted immediately if any of the symptoms develop. Rapid treatment of a diagnosed case of Lyme disease is essential to prevent permanent damage to the joints on internal organs.

To lessen your dogs chances of contracting lyme disease, you should vaccinate him. After the initial immunization, a booster is recommended three weeks later, followed thereafter by annual re-vaccinations. The symptoms of Lyme disease in humans are similar to those found in dogs, and vaccination of the family dog will help to prevent the spread to humans.

A tick must feed on the host for approximately 24 hours before spread of the disease takes place. When you return from an outing, carefully check your dog's skin and coat, including the groin, around the ears and tail and between the toes. If a tick is found, remove it immediately with an alcohol swab and tweezers. After applying the alcohol to the tick, carefully pull the tick upwards. Try not to squeeze the tick while removing it as this may force bacteria from the tick, back into the animal.

If possible, save the tick in a jar or sealed container. If the dog becomes sick or exhibits any of the symptoms described earlier, your veterinarian can identify the type of tick to aid in the choice of antibiotics to use. When it comes to ticks, do not take any chances. <bio>Randy Jones and his partner Brent Jones have been in the pet industry for a long time.
Lyme disease in puppies is a sickness that is newly recognized. This type of dog disease is transmitted by deer ticks.

Lyme disease in pets not only infects puppies but could also infect humans. The two seasons for the largest number of exposure to Lyme disease in pets is during spring through fall.

This dog disease appears mostly in the Midwestern and northwestern part of the US. Since 1975, several cases of Lyme disease in pets have been reported in more than 40 states.

White-footed mice and white-tailed deer are the hosts for the deer tick that is the direct cause for transmitting Lyme disease in pets. Since the ticks do not fly or hop, they wait on the ground where plants grow in tall-grassed or wooded areas that are heavily inhabited by mice, deer, and ticks. They wait patiently and eagerly to stick on to anything that brushes up against them.

Deer ticks can strike a dog on any part of the body, although they often attach and bite at his head, ears, neck and even his feet.

This is where Lyme disease in a dog begins. A tick's bite barely causes sensation, unlike the painful bites from bees and mosquitoes. Dogs and other animals can be saturated with ticks and not show any distress.

Symptoms of Lyme disease in pets include fever, slowness, and sudden onset of lameness mixed with warmth, pain, and swelling in his joints. Sometimes a round area of inflamed skin around the tick bite may emerge with Lyme disease in pets, even though it may be hard to notice this due to the thickness of a dog's coat.

Call your vet right away when you notice any symptoms of Lyme disease in dogs. Those who recognize the early stages of Lyme disease can prevent your dog from suffering. When Lyme disease in your dog reaches its progressive stages of infection, your dog could suffer from paralysis. If this disease is left untreated, Lyme disease can attack the front and hind limbs. It will then attack the muscles in the chest area and even disable the respiratory muscles. This can cause the dog to suffocate.

If you believe your dog has Lyme disease and that the disease is in its progressive stages of infection, immediately call your vet. Hospitalization is necessary for progressive stages of Lyme disease in a dog.

To learn more, head to Amazon.com and search for books on, "lyme disease and dogs" to see which are the most popular choices. Using the tool in their drop-down menu on their search results page, you can rank their listings accordingly and choose what you like.

Funds short for shopping? No problem. Key in titles you find form Amazon into your local public library search box.
Since many people who have Morgellons Disease seem to have also have Lyme disease you may well ask what Lyme disease is.

How did I get Lyme disease? How can Lyme disease be prevented / Can Lyme Disease be treated to go away or while I have it forever?

Lyme disease is a bacterial disease spread by insects called "Ticks ".

Ticks are small insects of the same family as spiders and are actually quite small.

The female tick seeks a blood meal to feed and nurture its brood of eggs similar in the manner that a female mosquito acquires a blood meal.

Imagine if you will the female tick wavers on a blade of grass until the moment that a mammal walks by. The combination of heat, moisture and carbon dioxide has to be just right.

And then the female tick latches onto the warm blooded mammal host just as brushes that blade of grass to affix herself in order for that special meal of blood.

Rather amazing and extraordinary isn't it.

But that is not all the little tick may leave you with before it crawls away with its load of your blood.

You may be left with a serious illness called Lyme disease which is caused by an infection which is caused by bacteria which were spread to you by the bite of deer ticks in the northeastern and north-central United States and by the black-legged tick on the Pacific Coast of the United States and Canada.

Worse. Some symptoms of signs of Lyme disease may not appear until weeks, months or even years after the tick bite.

You could get these delayed symptoms years later of intermittent joint pain and arthritis, severe headaches and even heart disease.

Lyme Disease is not a myth.

Last year the incidence of Lyme Disease was estimated at about 100,000 cases in the Unites States alone.

Luckily Lyme Disease can be treated in 2006/2007 by a course of antibiotics.

Prevention of Lyme Disease is the key strategy.

First of all avoid tick infested areas especially in the spring time and early summer of July.

Wear light colored clothing so that ticks can be spotted more easily. Tuck your pant legs into socks and shirt into pants so that the disease spreading ticks cannot crawl under your clothing.

Spray yourself and your clothes with insect repellent such as you use to prevent mosquito bites. Usually these compounds, such as the most well known commercial product "Off" contain "DEET". The higher the amount of "DEET" in the product the stronger it will be.

Wear a hat and a long sleeved shirt for added protection.

Walk in the center of trails to avoid overhanging grass and brush.

Lastly after being outdoors, remove clothing and wash and dry it at high temperature. Inspect the body of yourself and your children and pets. Carefully remove any attached ticks with tweezers, grasping the tick as close to the skin surface as possible pulling straight back with a steady force. Remember as well to avoid crushing the tick's body.

If the tick is a stubborn female you may have to coax her to relax her grip. This can be done with the use of a bit of alcohol or a hot knife or head of a match.

Just remember if you are using a hot match to the tick body as a last attempt to allow any previous alcohol to evaporate before trying as the alcohol will ignite which may burn you or your family member.

Of course if you feel that you may have been bitten by a disease spreading Tick best to seek medical help.

Your doctor can prescribe antibiotics.

Remember that Lyme Disease is a serious malady. Morgellons Disease is often associated with Lyme Disease.

An ounce of prevention is worth 100 lbs (or Kilograms) of cure. <bio>Margaret Mathews Health Care Practitioner Morgellons Research Foundation Com http://www.morgellonsresearchfoundation.com </bio>

It is most common among young children and those who work or reside in wooded areas because they are more likely to be exposed to the ticks. Expanding skin rash and flu-like symptoms are the earliest symptoms seen. A circular rash may develop at the bite's site but many individuals do not get the rash. If Lyme disease goes undetected or is not properly treated, problems involving the skin, joints, nervous system, and heart may arise. Symptoms may appear weeks after exposure to infection or it mat take months or even years. Other symptoms may include; fatigue, headache and neck stiffness. There may be fever and chills. Swollen lymph nodes and muscle and joint pain are common. As many as 25% of patients have only flu-like symptoms and no other symptoms. Skin rashes may later appear in other areas. Pain, weakness, or numbness in the arms or legs could appear quickly. Paralysis of the facial nerves is not uncommon. Other neurological symptoms may include poor memory and difficulty in concentrating. Heart problems may include palpitations and eye problems usually include conjunctivitis or even deep tissue damage. Joint problems are common in all stages of the disease. If treatment is not started early enough late persistent Lyme disease symptoms may include; chronic fatigue, joint problems, heart symptoms and nervous system problems such as weakness or numbness in the arms or legs and difficulties with memory.

Lyme disease may be diagnosed based on the symptoms, the medical history, and the possibility of exposure to ticks. Blood tests may confirm the diagnosis if the disease is suspected, however, blood tests are often not reliable to diagnose this condition. Rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis produce similar symptoms and must be considered.

Conventional medical treatment of Lyme disease should be prompt to prevent permanent damage. Antibiotic treatment for 3-4 weeks with doxycycline or amoxicillin is generally effective in early disease. Intravenous ceftriaxone or penicillin for 4 weeks or more may be needed in cases that were not treated early in the course of the disease. Treatment failures are not uncommon and re-treatment may be necessary.

Complementary medical approaches are used at this center to combat Lyme disease. Auricular Medicine (advanced ear acupuncture) is used to help evaluate the energetic status of the various body organs. Auricular Medicine can also be used in treating the organs affected and to support other vital organs that may be involved in the disease process. Homeopathic remedies may offer an invaluable complementary approach to help the body fight the involved bacteria and its symptoms.<bio>Nader Soliman M.D. is Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture with a degree from UCLA. You can find out more about Dr. Soliman and the alternative medical therapies he provides by visiting his site at http://alternativemedicinecenter.org. Visit one of our centers for complete evaluation using Auricular Medicine and homeopathic approaches.</bio>

Any kind of experiment or incomplete knowledge can not be used on your pet. In fact it is better to consult vet if you have slightest of doubt regarding the efficacy of the treatment.

As with any kind of remedy, home remedies for your pet should not be just a verbal treatment. So you need to possess the right knowledge regarding the quality and dosage of the medicine before giving to your dog. Also, you should know that any medicine that works for you may not be the one for the canine.

Here are some easy home remedies you can safely use for your dog:

Ticks or fleas Make a paste of the orange rinds and apply it evenly on the fur of the dog. Let it remain there for five hours. And then wash it gently. This is one easy and safe home remedy for helping your dogs get rid of ticks and fleas.

Chop some garlic cloves (not more than three at a time) and mix it well into the canine's food. This is the correct and effective preventive measure for ticks.

Dry, cracked paws You will find the irritation in the behavior of the dog, due to cracked and dry paws. Take Vaseline or petroleum jelly and apply it to the paws for four to five days. You will find the expected improvement and the paw will heal.

Odor problem As part of the overall cleanliness drive, add a few drops of vinegar in the dog's bath water. Bad smell and unhygienic odor will be a thing of the past now. But to implement the same scheme for bath during winters would be difficult as the dog is reluctant to take the bath. It gets dirty day by day and could be the source of infection for your family. You can use soda bicarbonate as a dry shampoo. Rub it vigorously and evenly. This is as effective as you have given a good bath to the dog.

Chewing furniture Your puppy has the habit of chewing furniture legs. Take clove oil and give a thin coating, within the teach of the tongue of the puppy. You will find soon that your puppy is looking out alternative places for its adventure.

Insects and bites Insect stings and bites are another common problem with the dogs. As soon as you notice this, put adequate solution of baking soda and water on the stung area, as if you are giving a bath. You will notice swelling and apply ice packs to counter this. Do it a number of times in a day for 5 minutes at a time. If it is a serious sting, watch the behavior of the dog for 24 hours and if you find any abnormality, take him to the vet. <bio>http://www.newhomeremedies.com/ and Disease Remedies provides detailed information on remedies, natural remedies, disease remedies and more. </bio>

You may have been visiting your doctor for years complaining about a myriad of symptoms. People may think that you are a hypochondriac. Yet you knew something was wrong. And one day finally you are told a diagnosis that you have a disease called Lyme disease. How is it that the medical community was clueless? After all this is the 21'st century with advanced medicine and all the tests in the world. Why you wonder was your Lyme disease caught before.

The answers are myriad. First Lyme disease is frequently misdiagnosed. Physicians overlook cases of Lyme disease simply because they do not know the complex nature of the origin and development of Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease can cause over 100 different symptoms and the one commonly known symptom of Lyme Disease -- that is joint pain is only one of the many presentations of Lyme Disease.

Secondly the tests for Lyme Disease are frequently useless and frequently misleading. The bacteria which causes Lyme disease can only infrequently be grown in bacterial plates. There is no one test to medical test diagnose Lyme Disease. Hence your doctor has to be on the ball to catch your symptoms. And even then he may not put together your odd symptoms as Lyme Disease if you unlucky enough to have Lyme Disease symptoms that "are not in the book".

Not only is that Lyme Disease not caused by the one known bacteria. It is now estimated that 300 different strains of bacterial worldwide cause Lyme Disease. Further it is not only the deer tick that spreads Lyme Disease. Other ticks such as Lone Star Ticks, western black legged and wood ticks can spread Lyme Disease as well. And if that is not enough global warming is spreading the geographic range of some of these insects to previously unknown areas.

You are not alone in being left out in the cold. It turns out that Lyme Disease is much more common than previously estimated -- up to 10 to 15 times higher than the previous underrated estimates. As you well have figures out by now doctors often miss most cases if Lyme Disease. The reasons are not hard to figure out. Further because of the apparent low rates of this disease it is not considered of any major public health concern so that there is no mandatory reporting procedure as one might find with venereal diseases. You have been caught in a terrible vicious cycle. Low diagnosis rates since doctors do not know what to look for and tests are not accurate in any manner. Then because the true prevalence of the incidence of Lyme Disease is vastly underreported Lyme disease is seen as a minor disease that is well taken care of. Hence there is little need for education on how to catch the symptoms of Lyme Disease ..The circle goes on and on.

Amazingly even if you are one of the lucky few and have your Lyme Disease correctly diagnosed you may not be home free. You may be under treated with antibiotic therapy. The stated course of action is a 6 week schedule of antibiotic therapy. Yet it often takes months, years and perhaps for ever of antibiotic therapy to manage this lingering disease with its hardy bacterial threat.

It has been said that just because you are paranoid does not mean that people are not out to get you. You were not imagining that your Lyme Disease took a very long time to diagnose. And the reasons are real not imagined. <bio>Margaret S.
Had a big fight with Mr. I-Think-He's-The-One recently? Or worse=85 maybe you broke up with him lately? Or maybe you've recently listened to one of your girlfriends whose relationship just bit the dust?

Well, we can easily say that these things happen all the time. We keep saying "heartwarming" things like "It happens to everybody" or "You couldn't have done anything to prevent what was coming," hardly giving a second thought about how badly it would sting if those things were said to us.

Are angry breakups really that inevitable? Well, I think not. Here are some tricks on how to tickle him if he ticks you off.

1. Read His Mind

Let's face it =96 men aren't romantic. They don't believe the love stories where everything simply grows into what you want it to be. Sometimes you just have to go direct to the point =96 try to be clear and concise about what you want. But don't ever forget about "timing" =96 there's a right and wrong time to voice out your thoughts.

This is a universal thing =96 it's not advice for only one person. It's also something that would undoubtedly make some women feel vulnerable. Still, remember that all relationships have measures of risk into them, and you can't generate any profit if it doesn't involve any risk.

In the end, if you can read his mind, you can give him what he needs even if he doesn't ask for it =96 and he'll be pleasantly surprised. And pleasantly surprised men will tend to be interested in keeping the relationship alive.

2. It's not all about you =96 he expects things from your relationship too

All people are the same deep inside. We are little babies who need to be satisfied. If we don't get satisfied, we get unhappy or disappointed. And when we are unhappy, petty problems get magnified. In the end, you lash out at him, letting loose all your rants and heartaches.

Ever thought these things go both ways?

Sometimes, we fail to recognize that our own disappointments are of our own makings. Sometimes, you expect too many good things to blossom from the relationship and tend to forget about him =96 his dreams, his wants, his needs, his expectations, how he feels, or how he sees things are just as important in a healthy relationship as your own.

Keep this in mind, and keep your relationship under control.

3. Don't make the "Big Mistake"

Men can be the most insensitive and shortsighted creatures to ever walk the earth. They're lousy with hints =96 it's hard for them to realize what women want. And sometimes women just have to live with that fact just to keep the fire burning.

It doesn't have to be that dismal, though. You simply have to take a little time and effort to know what he wants =96 and satisfy them. When you do so, he'll gladly return the favor. Even the small things, like knowing his favorite dish, understanding that he needs space at times, or even simply fixing his tie =96 are little things that could win a man's heart.

In the end, if you want him to make you happy, make him happy too. <bio>Aaron Adams specializes in relationship matters for women.
At some stage of your pet's lifespan every pet owner will have to deal with the problem of fleas, ticks and mites. If left untreated they can take over your pet's skin and coat so it is really important to keep it under control. It's best to stop the problem before it gets out of control. Rather treat your pet for a few fleas than treat the whole house for an infestation!

There are some misconceptions about fleas. It is not something that only happens to dirty animals! In fact it is probably more common in clean animals because fleas prefer a clean coat. Coming into contact with other animals also causes exposure to the problem and can start a flea problem in your home.

Fleas, mites and ticks are parasites with a short lifespan so they reproduce quickly. Female fleas can lay up to 25 eggs a day. So you can see just how quickly the problem can get out of hand! They tend to prefer warm conditions so summer and spring are the most troublesome times for pets and owners.

The main thing is that you want to catch the problem early! This means brushing your dog often and inspecting their coat. Fleas, ticks and mites are tiny black, brown crawling creatures that can even look like dirt. It may help for you to examine the fur under their ears and arms/legs. Fleas like warm places. You can also sea flea egg sacks and flea droppings in their fur if you look closely. If you still cannot see the fleas try combing your dog on a bright surface, something like a piece of paper should work well.

This is a problem that needs to be treated right away. Instead of heading for the pet store to buy expensive over-the-counter treatments, sprays or dips you should rather seek professional help right away. It will save you time. Your vet should have some pamphlets or handouts about flea control. Some vets even prescribe oral treatments if the problem is out severe.

If you choose to shop for the products yourself you will need to read the labels carefully to check that you are not inadvertently poisoning your pet! Never allow your pet to ingest any of the products you use; they are highly poisonous. It's also important to protect their eyes from these harsh chemicals. There is a lot of disagreement about whether or not flea collars work. They tend to kill fleas in a localized area around the collar.

It is important to treat your home for fleas as well. Fleas can survive in almost anything in your home-furniture, rugs and bedding. Any flea treatments will be pointless if the flea's eggs or fleas themselves remain in your living space.

To clean your home properly you will need to sanitize and clean the areas where the pet sleeps. Depending on the severity of the problem you may need to throw away blankets that have become infested with eggs. Often - just washing the affected bedding in hot water and some flea shampoo should do the trick. Rather safe than sorry though - if in doubt toss the bedding. Having to have your home fumigated will cost a lot more!

Fleas can become a nightmare for any pet owner. Rather stop the problem early - check your pet everyday for fleas and regularly use a preventative product approved by your vet. <bio>Gary Allison is a third generation of professional dog breeders.
In a perfect world, what you do when you are driving and see a yellow light, you would slow down and start to stop for the red light. But, as we all know, we do not live in a perfect world. Some if not most of us put the pedal to the metal whenever we see the dreaded yellow light. We are in a fast paced world, and every second counts. Everyday ticks and passes by almost as fast as the second hand of your clock ticks. So a lot of drivers tend to beat the red light. However, the consequence of this action is a ticket; not only that, but valued points on your driver's record. So, how do you Fight a Red Light Ticket?

If you have to Fight a Red Light Ticket, you do not actually fight with the officer. What you should do is be polite and be submissive to the arresting officer. Your aim would be to get some leniency and hope that the arresting officer would cut you some slack. This would be especially effective for first time offenders. When you get pulled over, remember to turn your hazard lights on and engine off. When the officer approaches your window, make sure that before he or she reaches your window it must already be rolled down. Also, have your hands on the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock position once the officer approaches. Then, have your driver's licence and registration prepared. Make the officer feel comfortable and safe. Try to make this painstaking process be as easy and as fast for the officer, and you, as possible and this could put him or her in a good mood. When you Fight a Red Light Ticket, do not talk to the officer first, let him or her have the first word. When you want to talk about your offense, ask the officer first if you can talk about it before blurting out. Just be polite and apologetic, and this could earn you some leniency. It is better to be honest, but there are some lines to avoid. Like saying you were late for work as it makes you irresponsible in two ways, driving and work. If you have a degree in acting, you could lie about having bad stomach pains and need to get home to use the bathroom, but these are very risky.

If the arresting officer does not give you any leniency and you think you have failed to Fight Red Light Ticket, do not give up just yet and pay the ticket by mail immediately. You still have two choices to successfully Fight a Red Light Ticket. First is to contest the charge via snail-mail. This can be done in California and Nevada. Less than half of these are actually prosecuted. Another way, and this could be the hardest to pull off as it is out of your hands, is to hope the officer does not show up for your case or forgets an important detail in your case, this would immediately dismiss the case and you would win the Fight Red Light Ticket.<bio>Ready to fight red light ticket?
A Shih Tzu show dog kennel should practice preventive medicine as the means of maintaining optimum health. The Shih Tzu show dog must be available for showing for extended periods of time. Preventive medicine is much more practical and is kinder to the Shih Tzu.

The Shih Tzu show dog must have routine checks for parasites and a strict maintenance of inoculations. Being in the show ring presents more chances of being exposed to disease germs. It is imperative that the Shih Tzu show dog that has been traveling from show to show be kept separate from the home crew once returning home. This can be compared to the older sister or brother who goes to school and brings home the chicken pox to all younger brothers and sisters. Extra precautions should be taken by the Shih Tzu show dog kennel to prevent possible spread of disease germs to the entire kennel and/or any Shih Tzu puppies for sale present among them.

Three very serious diseases to which all dogs are susceptible are:

1. Distemper 2. Hepatitis 3. Leptospirosis

These diseases are serious because they are frequently fatal. Fortunately, there are effective inoculations against all three.

Fleas and ticks are present in almost all parts of the country during warm weather. They are easy to pick up and sometimes quite difficult to get rid of, especially in the case of a long-coated Shih Tzu. Fleas and ticks also are capable of causing a dog to become infested with worms and sometimes diseases.

The simple rule to follow is to consult the veterinarian whenever there is the least question concerning the health of a Shih Tzu show dog. This is especially true in the case of the various diseases of the skin or conditions that result in seasonal irritants. These problems need to be treated promptly in order to prevent a chronic condition leading to the ruin of a Shih Tzu show dog coat, but is also detrimental to the over-all health of the Shih Tzu.

Toy Dogs, which include the Shih Tzu, have physical problems that are peculiar to them. The Toy dogs also have a few advantages over other certain classes of dogs. Many of the special problems affecting Toy dogs are the direct result of having been bred down to their present size.
Animals, like humans, have varying needs and sensitivities. Some animals suffer from allergies, yet others have sensitive skin that does not respond well to chemical applications. For this reason, many pet owners are turning to all natural products to keep their pets happy and healthy. Some pets don't have specific health issues, but some pet owners simply prefer using all natural products with their pets for environmental reasons.

Allergies

Food allergies account for approximately five to ten percent of allergic reactions in dogs and cats. Dogs suffering from allergic reactions can develop diarrhea and itching throughout the body. Diagnosing a food allergy can be difficult and can require trying a variety of dietary changes in order to pinpoint the problem. Food additives can sometimes be the cause of food allergies. Therefore, all natural food is the best choice for these pets.

Joint Problems

Like humans, many pets experience a breakdown of the cartilage in their joints. Pets with joint problems will hesitate about going up stairs and will have difficulty rising from a laying position. They will also sometimes have creaking joints and will be unable to run for a long distance. These problems have been commonly treated with steroids, aspirin, or anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately, these can cause side effects such as hypertension and muscular weariness. For these reasons, many pet owners are looking toward all natural products.

Supplements that contain natural steroids can be used to help keep joints healthy and strong. Several other natural ingredients are used to help with joint pain. These ingredients help build the cartilage back up and make it strong, which helps relieve pain, as well.

Fleas and Ticks

There are also many natural tick and flea remedies available. Some of these products contain cedar oil and rosemary to help kill ticks and fleas. These all natural sprays do not dry the animal's skin and they also help sooth irritation and itching caused by ticks and fleas. Natural tick and flea products are especially helpful for pets with sensitive skin or with skin allergies as chemical products will irritate the skin. Natural tick and flea killers are also beneficial for pregnant pets, or pregnant pet owners, as the chemicals in flea and tick killers can be harmful to the unborn baby.

Common ingredients used in natural flea killers that are applied directly to the pet are eucalyptus and citronella. A well known herb from India has also been used to kill flees for centuries and is a common additive. Pyrethrums, which are derived from Chrysanthemum flowers, also help keep flees at bay. Pet owners can even make their own all natural flea powder by mixing fennel, rosemary, wormwood, yellow dock and rue together and sprinkling it on the pet.

Sodium borate can also be sprinkled on the carpet to help control ticks. Sodium borate will dry up both fleas and their larvae and is effective for up to one year after being applied to a carpet.

Emotional Problems

Certain herbs are also helpful in relieving stress, tension, and anxiety in an animal. For example, chamomile and St. John's Wort are included in many natural stress relieving herbs. These herbs have long been well-known for their soothing properties in animals and products for pets that contain these herbs can be just as beneficial to the animals. These products also help pets cope with separation anxiety or feelings of anxiousness when around strangers or when going to the vet or when you take the dog in to get grooming done.

Oral Care and Ear Care

Many all natural breath fresheners are available for pets. Some of these fresheners contain Mojave Yucca and mint oils to freshen breath. The Yucca neutralizes the odors that cause bad breath, while the mint helps give it a fresh smell. These products are used daily to maintain fresh breath and to help keep the teeth strong.

Natural ear care products are also available. These products help remove dirt, debris, and wax from the pet's ears. Unlike unnatural ear cleaning products, which contain ingredients such as alcohol, which can sting, these products often contain Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera helps soothe the sensitive inside of the ear.

Natural remedies are an excellent choice for pet owners who want to have a healthy pet and who want to remain environmentally conscious. <bio>Are Allergies and Asthma Taking the FUN OUT OF LIFE?
When owning a dog, there are certain products that every dog owner needs so that both the owner and the dog are happy. It is especially important to purchase these products as soon as you acquire the dog and to keep these things around during the ownership of the dog, which is most likely going to be a long time. However, knowing what you need from the beginning can give you the peace of mind that you will always have what you need when you need it. You won't have to worry about making late night trips to the store or having to wait until the next day when the store opens back up for the day.

Products that you need:

•	Don't simply give Fido one of your old mixing bowls to eat out of or drink out of. Dog bowls are specially made so that your dog does not tip them over while eating or drinking. This can save your floors (if your dog is inside), keep the food and water supply going, and can save you money by not having to continually replace spilt food.

•	A leash so that you can take your dog and yourself on walks. This is an important bonding time with your dog and gives you both exercise. Retractable leashes are good because you can lengthen the leash as your dog gets used to it.

•	A collar with an ID tag. You can attach your dog's leash to the collar. This means that he or she is always ready to go on a walk. A flea collar may also be required if there are flea issues.

•	If you're not keen on the idea of a flea collar, then you may want to invest in a supply of flea and tick medicines. The type that you may want to choose is one that requires treatment just once per month. You simply break open the vile of medication and squeeze it onto the back of the dog's neck. It is effective for 30 days in warding off fleas and ticks, keeping you and your dog happy.

•	Treats are a must because you want to reward your dog for good behavior. If you have none to give, then your dog has no incentive to obey you when you command him or her to do something.

•	Dog brush or comb. This is especially necessary in dogs with long hair. Brushing and combing your dog can also help in the battle against fleas and ticks. It is also a good time to bond with your dog and will keep your dog's coat healthy.

•	Chew toys can prevent your dog from using your shoes to chew on. Chew toys tend to be recommended for puppies, but big dogs like to chew around on toys as well. Chew bones are also great for dogs because they keep their teeth healthy.

•	Dog shampoo is a must because dogs get smelly even if they are inside. This keeps your dog's skin and fur healthy and a clean dog is a dog that smells good.

These are all items that you should have handy because you never know when you need them. Of course there is the dog food, but that is a given. You just want to make sure that you are always stocked on many of these items because you don't want your dog to catch you without dog treats when they've done something good. You also don't want to wake up in the morning with all of your shoes demolished. In the end, you'll be glad you were prepared.<bio>Wholesale dog products provides everything the owner needs to spoil the canine friend.
