When people experience the physical <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/symptoms+of+anxiety" rel="tag">symptoms of anxiety</a>, this usually leads to more worrying about the symptoms, creating a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/vicious+cycle" rel="tag">vicious cycle</a>. <br /><br /> There are lots of practical steps you can take to combat your worrying and to break the vicious cycle. These are techniques that I share with my clients at my <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/nlp" rel="tag">NLP</a> and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hypnotherapy+practice" rel="tag">Hypnotherapy practice</a> in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hertfordshire" rel="tag">Hertfordshire</a>. <br /><br /> Identify and clarify the worrying thought: Often worrying thoughts are experienced as several fleeting ideas and images that race through your mind. Spending the time writing down exactly what it is that is worrying you brings the thought out into the open. This in itself can show the worrying thought up as being less scary then when it was just in your head. Sometimes these thoughts are so automatic and quick that I will spend time at my NLP and Hypnotherapy practice, Hertfordshire helping clients identify worrying thoughts. <br /><br /> Explore what the worse thing that could happen would be if the thought was true: Often you will find that it is much easier to cope with a clearly defined worst outcome, then the product of your imagination, which is usually fantasy based and much worse! <br /><br /> Look at the thought logically: This involves examining the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/objective+evidence" rel="tag">objective evidence</a> of whether the thought is true. Create two columns on a piece of paper and on one list evidence to support the thought and under the other list <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/evidence+that" rel="tag">evidence that</a> disputes the thought. This is a process that is used at Hypnotherapy, Hertfordshire. The therapist works with the client to elicit the evidence, using a series of questions designed to help the person broaden their view of the situation. <br /><br /> Another point of view: Try looking at the worry from another perspective. For example, what would you advise a loved one who was concerned over the same thought. Also think about other times in your life when you would feel different about the worry. <br /><br /> What are the benefits or losses of holding onto this thought: Look at whether holding onto your worrying thought helps or hinders you. <br /><br /> Over-generalising: Are you viewing the situation/self in all or nothing terms e.g. complete disaster------- totally perfect ? Actually rate your thought out of 100% to remind yourself that your worry is probably somewhere other then complete disaster on a sliding scale. <br /><br /> Take Action: Rather then passively worrying which does not benefit you, look at whether there is anything you can do about the situation. Make a list of action steps that you can take. <br /><br /> Free time: If you are always worrying then become stricter with yourself and how you spend your time. Dedicate a set time to worrying, ensuring that within your time you set goals for action or work on your worry by going through all the steps to combat worrying already discussed. Then set dedicated time each day for relaxing - time where you will practice distracting your thoughts from worrying. Better yet, what if that site delivers the humorous thought for the day to your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/email" rel="tag">email</a>? <br /><br /> And what if instead of providing stale, you've-heard-it-a-thousand-times-before humor, that site provided fresh, baked-daily humor created on-site in their in-store ovens? <br /><br /> Well ... that's the project I've taken on. <br /><br /> And it's turning out to be quite the challenge to keep up with baking all those daily loaves of laughs. <br /><br /> So how do you go about creating a thought for the day that's humorous without having to be a professional comic? <br /><br /> Here are some tips: <br /><br /> 1. Think about the types of things in your everyday life that you find unusual, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ridiculous" rel="tag">ridiculous</a>, hard-to-understand, silly or embarrassing. <br /><br /> 2. Come up with a way to express one of these things in a way that leads the mind in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/one+direction" rel="tag">one direction</a>. Then, suddenly shift direction with the final part. This is the setup/<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/punchline" rel="tag">punchline</a> structure of humor. <br /><br /> 3. For a given idea, generate as many setup/punchline variations as you can. Keep pushing to generate them, even when you think you can't come up with any more. The ones you fight hard for are usually the funnier ones. <br /><br /> 4. Try to make your humor express your final point in an indirect way. It's funnier to say someone could use "subsidies of something" than to say someone "someone doesn't have much something." <br /><br /> 5. With each setup/punchline, play with the words to try to make your humor brief and to the point. Wordy "humor" generally is not as funny as brief humor. <br /><br /> 6. Try to hide the final destination of your humorous setup/punchline until the very end. You want the punch of your humor to be showcased at the end, with nothing trailing it to drain the funny part away. <br /><br /> 7. Practice on a regular basis. Keep what's funny and toss what's not funny. You'll have to use your best judgment here. This is easier to do if you set what you've written aside for a few days. Then, come back later and review it. Many of the lines that lack humor will stick out like a sore thumb. <br /><br /> Here's an example of how I created a funny line: <br /><br /> - The word "imagination" popped into my mind, and I thought about how insulting it is to be accused of having no imagination. <br /><br /> - I wondered what group could I insult without really offending anyone. Politicians are always a good target. <br /><br /> - I then tried to figure out how I could accuse politicians of having no imagination. <br /><br /> - For the setup I wanted to suggest that I was going to compliment politicians by saying they had a lot of imagination. So I thought, "With the amount of imagination politicians have ....." <br /><br /> - I tried to think of a way to indirectly say someone has no imagination. My approach was "... they should qualify for government subsidies." <br /><br /> - The result was: <br /><br /> With the amount of imagination  politicians have, they should  qualify for government subsidies. <br /><br /> If you don't find that line funny, that's OK. Your sense of humor may be different than mine. And that's fine. Humor is very subjective, and there is a wide variety in the things people find funny. Also, analyzing the creation of a joke step-by-step, like we did above, has a tendency to kill the humor as you go. <br /><br /> This is the process I'm using on a regular basis to create fresh humor for my thought for the day web site. It's not an easy task, but it's fun and satisfying when the funny pours out. And it's great to think that maybe I've added a little humor to the middle of someone's day, maybe just at the point where the person's daily stress was about to overwhelm them. Because, once again I was standing in front of my <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/full+length+mirror" rel="tag">full length mirror</a> after taking a shower, and thought to myself (I don't know why we always say "and thought to myself" who else are we going to think to), anyway, I have a tattoo on my right arm, and I thought to anybody who wanted to listen, that I looked lopsided, so why not get another for the left arm. I could get one on my back or chest or leg or any other part of my body, but this won't cure my perceived lopsidedness from which I am suffering from. I know a fellow from many years ago who had a tattoo of a fly done on his best friend, if you know what I mean, but when it was flaccid it looked like a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/little+beauty" rel="tag">little beauty</a> spot, he told me that he had to get himself erect so the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tattooist" rel="tag">tattooist</a> could do his job. I don't know about anyone else but I am pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to keep an erection while a needle was piercing my skin 10,000 times a second or whatever the speed is. <br /><br /> To continue, not being able to think of any reason not to get another, I said to myself (because there was nobody else to say it to) yes go get another tattoo. Now what design will i choose, the one i have is a very nicely done heart with my wife's name across it. I got this one done by a young lady in Darwin, just across the street from the Love Shop. I remember the love shop but not the name of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tattoo+parlor" rel="tag">tattoo parlor</a>, isn't that strange. <br /><br /> I could have a fierce looking one, a dragon, a snake, or some such animal, but that wouldn't be conducive to the one that i already have. So artistically i would still be lopsided. I could get one of her pictures copied onto my skin, but i have seen this done many times and have never seen one that actually looked like the person it was supposed to be. I could imagine getting that done and going home to show my wife my <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/new+tattoo" rel="tag">new tattoo</a>, and her saying who is that it's not me, do you have a girlfriend, etc, etc, just give me a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sharp+knife" rel="tag">sharp knife</a> and let me do the job myself, because if i came home with a tattoo of someone else, or so she thinks, i might as well commit suicide. <br /><br /> The dilemma, how can I keep both of us happy, the answer was brilliant in its simplicity.     <content:encoded><![CDATA[ <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ocd" rel="tag">OCD</a> is a common problem that can be overcome with <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cbt" rel="tag">CBT</a>, either by using a CBT based self-help book or via more intensive therapist support. <br /><br /> OCD is characterised by <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obsessions" rel="tag">obsessions</a> and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/compulsion" rel="tag">compulsion</a>s. An obsession is a persistent thought, image or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/urge" rel="tag">urge</a> that comes into your mind and sets off feelings of anxiety and distress. These obsessions occur frequently, are intrusive and not easy to get rid of. For example, common obsessions in OCD include, thoughts or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/images+of+violence" rel="tag">images of violence</a>, blasphemous thoughts, fear of contamination, sexual thoughts or images and excessive concern with health. In OCD a compulsion is an act or ritual that is repeated and repeated in reaction to an obsessive thought. A compulsion may be an behavioural act such as repeatedly checking the door is locked or a mental act such as saying something or picturing something to make the distressing feeling, associated with the obsessive thought feel better. <br /><br /> Usually when I treat people for OCD at my CBT therapy practice in Hertfordshire, I find that the method that the person with OCD uses to cope with or solve their OCD, is the very factor keeping their OCD going. This is because people with OCD commonly give a special meaning or powerfulness to their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obsessive+thoughts" rel="tag">obsessive thoughts</a>, usually that having the thought will lead to something bad happening to themselves or others. As a consequence, the person will usually mistakenly believe that the way to solve the obsessive thought is to try to block it or carry out a compulsion to "undo" the thought. What we know is that our brains work in such a way that trying to block a thought will only make it more frequent and whilst carrying out a compulsion will make the person feel better initially, it will actually feed the OCD so that the problem keeps going. <br /><br /> This can be likened to having "just one puff" to get rid of a craving for nicotine when trying to give up smoking. Whilst for a short period the craving is dealt with (distressing feeling in OCD), it actually leads to stronger and increased cravings. <br /><br /> When working with clients at my CBT therapy practice, Herts who have OCD a lot of time is spent identifying the persons OCD maintaining factors. Typical factors that keep OCD going include: giving thoughts more meaning then they deserve, misunderstanding about why you have the particular obsessions you have, avoidance and safety seeking behaviour (avoiding anxiety triggered by the thought by blocking or undoing the thought with a compulsion, avoiding situations that you associate with the obsessive thought, asking others for reassurance), giving too much time and attention to your obsessions, trying to control your thoughts and thinking biases. <br /><br /> CBT therapy, Herts, works by helping the person unravel the factors that maintain their OCD in order to build a different solution to overcome it. Treatment will then involve exposure and without responding, with the support of your therapist. This basically involves accepting your obsessive thoughts in such a way that you learn to tolerate the anxiety which accompanies them without carrying out any compulsions. Eventually the anxiety naturally fades so that you will be able to experience the thought without finding it distressing. It might be we are focused only on one thing and we can't see the others or, more bothersome than that we might be oblivious to ideas altogether, because of selfishness which I hope is not your plight. "What a fantastic idea", I thought to myself as I began experimenting with my new notion. "This makes for a great economy of ideas since we never have to go too far without finding another closely linked great idea". When you are in the business of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/writing+compositions" rel="tag">writing compositions</a> everyday, than economy of ides are useful as they lead us to a "goldmine" of ideas which I am always in need of for my own given type of writing. <br /><br /> For example I though about <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/helen+keller" rel="tag">Helen Keller</a>'s quote for today, "Ideas without action are worthless." From that my mind was instantly transported to anther time and place and idea that was expressed by another <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/famous+person" rel="tag">famous person</a> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/paul+of+tarsus" rel="tag">Paul of Tarsus</a> the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/persecutor" rel="tag">persecutor</a> of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/roman+christians" rel="tag">Roman Christians</a> who changed his life and became one himself who later said, "<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/faith+without+works" rel="tag">Faith without works</a> is dead". Another idea that swiftly came and went was the saying, "Don't worry about what to give, it is the thought that counts." <br /><br /> Now there I was stuck with these three ideas all separate in origin but all springing from the same source. After long and hard thought on these three ideas I saw them as separate subjects and useful for separate editorials; but my mind kept whispering no, there is a central theme here that should not be missed, and one useful for the holidays that are now upon us. It is buried in the idea that: "it is the thought that counts, and not what we give" if anything at all. If this is true than how is it simultaneously true that "ideas without action are worthless?" I came to the conclusion that the proverbial inherited idea that "it's the thought that counts" is simply untrue. It has been accepted as a traditional excuse for probably hundreds of years but in the heart of hearts if "it's the thought that always counts" than it is a thought that is measured by what we give indeed that counts. Because it does matter to us what we are given. Don't say it doesn't matter because you know it does. You may not want to say so but it does. <br /><br /> I don't mean that we as receivers should be ungrateful at the thing that was given us by let's say a poor person, but what I am saying is more thought should have been taken before we gave a gift to someone in the first place. When a gift is truly from the heart it is known for sure, it is well done because there is certain significance and a statement is made with the gift we give. <br /><br /> The gift does not need to be "much" in a monetary sense, but it needs to mean something to the receiver. For example, I might have shared a romantic moment with q girl under an apple tree. An apple may have been picked, or initials carved in the apple tree, and thus the apple was chosen as a gift. To the receiver that simple token meant everything in the world once it was received, but in a monetary sense it was pennies and may have seemed unimpressive to some onlookers. The expression of this given gift goes far deeper into the heart than any magnificent other gift might do. <br /><br /> This illustrates so immensely the idea that this is what is meant by "It's the thought that counts". I have seen many give token gifts to others that had no special meaning and the gift goes un-noticed and un-appreciated and put in the pile of others gifts given on that child's birthday or Christmas. You have seen it too. This season make it a point to give something if you can. It does not need to be a lot. In fact if you can't afford it and you are going into debt to buy it than that is wrong in a lot of other ways which we can discuss in our debtors column.<br /><br /><br /><br /> This Christmas buy what you can afford. Get a gift that has a lot of thought put into it. It does not need to cost you much. Your action speaks louder than words when you give a gift from the heart. Your faith with these kinds of works are not dead. Say to yourself, with a loud and firm <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/inner+voice" rel="tag">inner voice</a>: STOP! Once you've done this, it's important to replace your previous thought with a more positive statement and image. Clearly acknowledge which statements cause you to feel pain or threat, and which statements allow you to feel success, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/joy+and+happiness" rel="tag">joy and happiness</a>. <br /><br /> When people unnecessarily stress themselves by thinking that they have no control over a controllable situation, they need to use their inner voice to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/shout+out" rel="tag">shout out</a> the word "STOP." (Example: When I take risks I experience excitement, learn more about myself, and feel encouraged to risk again.) <br /><br /> When you attach specific <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/positive+words" rel="tag">positive words</a> to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/positive+feelings" rel="tag">positive feelings</a> and experiences, you can recall positive feelings at will by using those words. Using your positive statement, attach it to feelings of success, joy, and happiness. Each time, experience the positive feelings the statement generates. How about this, picture how you're able to recognize some information easily while the rest just wont sink in at all. <br /><br /> There are times when our memory won't work on the right places when we need them to work. It is just downright <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/frustrating" rel="tag">frustrating</a>. And yes, our memory lets us down for many instances in a year and we don't even know why it happens. The truth is, our brain doesn't have any problem in picking up and storing as many information as it can along the way. The problem comes in the retrieving part -- when we need to take a thought from our mind and say it out loud or write it down for some purpose. <br /><br /> What we fail to do however, is to realize that for each memory we create, at the very moment our mind sinks the information in, we do not take the time to study what it is, or to observe its characteristics. We then blame our memory for failing us. The answer to this is to give our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/full+attention" rel="tag">full attention</a> to every little detail that comes our way or make that every bit of sight, sound, smell, texture and taste that we encounter. It works perfect since when we absorb the thought to our memory, we have all the details we need and in turn, when we retrieve the same information, we have the complete details. Problem solved? If we look back on the day at all, we realize that we had done many things of low or no priority and the important tasks we had hopes of accomplishing were given short shrift or put off to another day. What we urgently need is a technique, a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/formula" rel="tag">formula</a> to follow that will increase our effectiveness, improve our rate of achievement. <br /><br /> Today I am the bearer of good news. There is such a formula. I must confess that this is not some great revelation which the gods have bestowed only on me. The formula has been around for as long as people have thought about human motivation. And without further ado, I am bold to present it here. <br /><br /> Thought = <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/emotion" rel="tag">emotion</a> = <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/action" rel="tag">action</a> = result. <br /><br /> There, you have it, but let me give you an example. Suppose you are driving your car and about to head up the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/freeway" rel="tag">freeway</a> on-ramp. You glance at your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gas+gauge" rel="tag">gas gauge</a> and note that it reads <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/half+empty" rel="tag">half empty</a>. (Or half full, depending on how you view the world.) You then think "I must get gas," but because you have half a tank left, the emotion arising from the thought is two weak to be motivating and you take no action. <br /><br /> Just imagine though, if you see that the gas gauge is sitting on empty. Now a very different emotion arises. The specter of being stranded on the freeway and all the negative events which could ensue arouse strong emotions. You spot a gas station, not your usual one, but strongly motivated to 'fill-'er up," you pull in and get the much needed fuel. The result is that you then proceed confidently, having laid the emotion to rest, by taking the required action. <br /><br /> I'm sure you now see the validity of the formula. The thought must arouse an emotion strong enough to inspire action before a result is achieved. Our success for any enterprise then can be determined by following the formula. We must ensure that the thought is <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/vivid" rel="tag">vivid</a> and inspirational enough to generate a strong emotion. Action and a result are sure to follow. <br /><br /> I invite you to use the "Achievement Formula" in any area of your life that you truly want to attain results. Before they do, they think they must heal completely emotionally. <br /><br /> Getting over the death of a loved one will often require long term counseling. The thought of dating someone else will be a very sad thought and much too painful to consider replacing them with someone else. The though of dating might scare many <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/widowers" rel="tag">widowers</a> and some might <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/experience+stress" rel="tag">experience stress</a> at a very high level. This <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/type+of+stress" rel="tag">type of stress</a> has been known to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cause+heart+attacks" rel="tag">cause heart attacks</a> and stroke. <br /><br /> While the widower may not want to spend the rest of their life alone, they also think about the one they lost and think that nobody can replace them. Getting into a bad relationship would not be good for them and if they date someone younger than they are then they will probably think that it will look out of place or stupid to others in the widower's age group. <br /><br /> Often in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/widower+dating" rel="tag">widower dating</a> circles, there are children involved that just lost a parent. The children might have a definite attitude about their parent dating and that feeling will be negative. There are many different reasons for these feelings. They might fear losing the only parent they have if they are out of their sight for very long. Have you ever thought that how you view debt might be the problem? <br /><br /> Every aspect of your life, at some point, you wanted. You say "I didn't want the debt", but you wanted the thing that came along with the debt, or whatever you exchanged for the debt; maybe it was a house, the car or the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/car+repairs" rel="tag">car repairs</a>, the clothes.  <br /><br /> Debt was just a way to live a certain dream - a means to an end - a way for you to get to your dream faster. Now granted, it may not have been a well planned out dream, but it was a dream just the same. <br /><br /> Think about a debt you have, no matter how big or small. What did you get for that debt? Think about it. <br /><br /> You received something in return for the debt - an <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/equal+exchange" rel="tag">equal exchange</a> - but right now, you think what you received was far less than the debt you now carry around. <br /><br /> Think back before the debt, back to the point where you wanted that particular thing, where no debt was too great just as long as you got what you wanted. <br /><br /> Back then you didn't think what you were receiving was small. Actually you thought the deal was pretty fair, or else you wouldn't have entered into the debt to begin with. For the most part you not only thought it was fair, but that you got the far better deal! <br /><br /> What has debt done for you? <br /><br /> Most will say nothing, or made me angry, or made me have a horrible <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ulcer" rel="tag">ulcer</a> worrying about it, but what has debt really done for you? It allowed you some comfort!! <br /><br /> For some people debt allowed an extra night of sleep knowing they could pay the mortgage on time. For some it was to be able to purchase a home. For others, it was the ability to feed their kids when they had no cash, buy gas, or hold them over till it was payday...For some it was <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/christmas+gifts" rel="tag">Christmas gifts</a>, but you <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/fast+forward" rel="tag">fast forward</a> a few years, and now this same debt is a horrible thing. Amazing how <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/time+changes" rel="tag">time changes</a> our perception of things. <br /><br /> Take away the debt you are complaining about, and remember the GIFT this debt brought with it. This not only applies to our actions, but also to what we say and even what we admit to thinking. <br /><br /> Our self-censorship is particularly advancing in the areas of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sexuality" rel="tag">sexuality</a>, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/politics" rel="tag">politics</a>, and social commentary. Thanks to a myriad of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/special+interest+groups" rel="tag">special interest groups</a> who preach constantly on TV, most of us have become afraid to really express our ideas and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/feelings" rel="tag">feelings</a> on a number of fronts previously thought essential to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/human+discourse" rel="tag">human discourse</a>. <br /><br /> Say what you think about politics and you may be ostracized by your friends and even persecuted by your government. The truth lies somewhere else. For those that are looking for a pet that has been around a long time, the ferret may just right. Today, they seem unique and different from the common dog or cat, but they have been pets, or at least domesticated, for quite a long time. The ferret's history can be traced well back into the times of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ancient+egyptians" rel="tag">ancient Egyptians</a>. These people used them to guard their grain supplies. This is not certain, because many believe that Europeans mistook cats for ferrets. They have been found in remains that date back to the time of the Egyptians, but it may be much longer than that that they have been around. In ancient history, these animals were not necessarily pets. They are thought to have been domesticated approximately 1500 years ago. <br /><br /> It is thought that the ferret was <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/bred" rel="tag">bred</a> from the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/european+polecat" rel="tag">European Polecat</a>, thought it may be that they were bred from the steppe polecat. While the history of the ferret is something that we may not ever know, it is definite that they have had a role in the lives of people throughout history. <br /><br /> The ferret is a creature that can adapt to fit the lifestyle that it needs. Its body and its curiosity are supposed to have been bred for hunting, as they could easily get down into holes to get their prey. They may have been bred for their abilities as well. One among them is to know the relation between thought and word and what can be achieved by the power of the word. In every religion the power of the word is recognised, so much so that in some of them creation itself is said to have come out of the word. The external aspect of the thought of God is the Word, and as God thought and willed before He created, creation came out of the Word. In this stress and hurry of our materialistic life, our nerves lose sensibility and become hardened. The older we grow, the longer we are knocked about in the world, the more callous we become; and we are apt to neglect things that even happen persistently and prominently around us. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/human+nature" rel="tag">Human nature</a>, however, asserts itself sometimes, and we are led to inquire into and wonder at some of these common occurrences; wondering thus is the first step in the acquisition of light. <br /><br /> Apart from the higher philosophic and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/religious+value" rel="tag">religious value</a> of the Word, we may see that sound symbols play a prominent part in the drama of human life. I am talking to you. I am not touching you; the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/pulsations" rel="tag">pulsations</a> of the air caused by my speaking go into your ear, they touch your nerves and produce effects in your minds. You cannot resist this. What can be more wonderful than this? One man calls another a fool, and at this the other stands up and clenches his fist and lands a blow on his nose. Look at the power of the word! There is a woman weeping and miserable; another woman comes along and speaks to her a few <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gentle+words" rel="tag">gentle words</a>, the doubled up frame of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/weeping+woman" rel="tag">weeping woman</a> becomes straightened at once, her sorrow is gone and she already begins to smile. Think of the power of words! They are a great force in higher philosophy as well as in common life. Day and night we manipulate this force without thought and without inquiry.
