Choosing keywords is one of the most important tasks when it comes to SEO; it falls only behind link building on a scale of importance.

You need to think very carefully about what keyword phrases and word choices people would use when looking to buy your product or service.

Knowing what keywords people are using for searches is fundamental to your sites success.

Firstly, you need to construct a big list of words that relates in anyway to your product or service, these keywords or phrases need to cover every aspect of your business or products that are related to your business.

I would also suggest choosing keywords that are also related to your keyword phrases.

Therefore, one step away from being directly related to your business, this will help catch a bit more traffic.

Put yourself in your customers shoes -- What search phrases would you type in if you were looking for your service.

Think about your business as an outside that knows nothing about your business or industry.

The next step is to judge how valuable and competitive the search terms are. The higher the numbers the harder is going to be to rank for a particular search phrase.

You can do this with a variety of tools free and paid for. They include: Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery Google Adwords and the Overture tool. I would suggest using the overture tool and choosing phrases that have between 3000 -- 10000 searches per month, any more searches and it's going to take a long time to rank and any less and you won't get enough traffic.

Now narrow down your list to about 70 keyword phrases and scatter them across your websites content. Choose three or four of the most competitive keyword phrases and have them on your home page copy. Repeat your "Top Three" keyword phrases at least ten times on your home page. <bio>Chris Angus is a freelance writer and journalist.
Choosing the right keyword is easy, you should ask yourself the following question: If I were to do a search what would I type in to find or search for a website.
Keyword optimization is important if you want your web site to achieve maximum success. Search engines crawl your web pages on a regular basis to determine whether or not your web site provides content that matches commonly used search terms. If you have keywords or keyword phrases that are in line with commonly used search terms, there is a good chance that your web site will appear higher up in search engine rankings than sites that have not utilized keyword optimization.

Rules of Keyword Optimization

Keyword optimization is a complex topic, but it can be boiled down to ten simple rules. If you follow these keyword rules faithfully on your web site, you are almost guaranteed a higher place in search engine rankings.

1. You should choose at least one targeted keyword phrase for every page on your web site.

2. Keyword optimization becomes less effective when you water it down. While you can target multiple keyword phrases, you should only target two or three at the most for each page.

3. You should choose keywords or keyword phrases that match the overall theme of your web site. For example, you wouldn't want to choose the phrase "medical school" if your web site focuses on celebrity fashion.

4. People who research keyword popularity ahead of time have more success with keyword optimization. A good example of a free tool that will help you with this is Google's Keyword Tool, https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

5. Your chosen keyword should be spelled correctly. There are a lot of other people who will tell you otherwise, saying that misspelling words is a good way to get stray traffic on your web site. The truth is that misspelling a keyword on purpose is nothing more than poor keyword optimization strategy. Your web site is better than that and so are you.

6. The keyword or keyword phrase that you choose should be popular, but not too popular. Your goal should be to pick something Internet users will be searching for, while avoiding terms that have been done to death by larger and more established web sites.

7. The crux of keyword optimization is choosing where to insert chosen keywords and keyword phrases on a web site page. The best thing you can do is pepper the content with keywords, i.e. the targeted phrase should be used throughout the content versus concentrated areas.

8. Always, always, always use your targeted keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your article.

9. Keywords should be used in Meta titles and Meta descriptions--this is one of the most important rules of keyword optimization.

* Keyword optimization works best in moderation. If you use too many keywords your writing will look like spam to search engines.

A Final Thought on Keyword Optimization

Keyword optimization might seem like a lot of effort, but it is worth your time to learn how it works. When you use keywords and keyword phrases correctly on your web site, search engines will notice and reward your efforts by sending traffic your way.<bio>Cliff Posey owner of Websites That Succeed.
As you will see all over the internet and on many forums, keyword research is very important if you want your site to rank well and be successful. Keyword research is the key to identifying the needs of your prospects. Keyword research is the first task in optimizing your web site and pay-per-click campaign. One of the best places to perform keyword research is the search engines themselves.

Two of the best-known keyword research tools are Word tracker and Overture. Well, there are many tools on the internet that record the phrases that people are typing and these tools are available online. The best tools to use for keyword research is paid for tools, the free tools just don't have the features. Using free keyword tools are for those marketers that are just starting out and playing around with internet marketing. Use keyword tools that you pay for or the free keyword tool good keywords to do the keyword research.

Tools like word tracker will help you to find that how many times keywords have been searched and how much competition there is for that particular keyword phrases.

When choosing the keywords and keyword phrases you need to have tools that can help identifying the words you will need. Once you find the keywords you are going to target you need to start using these keywords on your pages and on your links that point back to your site.

To maximize the profitability of your online venture, it has become a must that you should concentrate on a particular niche. A niche is a specialized segment of the market that is often overlooked. Determining a niche should be the first step of a sound business plan. Fortunately, deciding on which keywords encompass the entire niche is relatively easy if you have done your keyword research. Advertiser is paying - the higher the cost per click the more lucrative that particular niche is likely to be. This will tell you if people are buying and whether the niche is likely to be profitable.

Try not to choose keywords that all the other sites are using, find keywords that are searched on in a limited fashion this way you will establish a niche. So, finding the right words are important. When doing keyword research make sure you keep a record of the keywords that you researched and those words that have less competition and high searches. Domain names by themselves are no longer the most valuable location on the internet keywords are. Thus choosing the keywords is of the utmost importance. It has been said again and again, you need to have content that is keyword rich on your site to help with the search engine rankings. Keywords are the search words that people use when searching for information on the internet.

The first thing you need to do before you start your keyword research is to choose the words you would like to research on. How do you identify the keyword? The first step is to understand what the theme of your site is going to be. If your site is about cars then all of your keywords should revolve around cars. Research these keywords and find out how many times they have searched on, what is the competition like of these words is there a high demand of people looking for the particular keyword. <bio>David Marc Fishman provides software to help webmasters with link exchange.
The internet is driven by keywords. Every time a person searches for something on the internet, they use keywords to narrow their search. And that's not even exclusive to search engines. Regardless where on the internet you are, keywords form the foundation of the websites you visit and the information you find.

As an online entrepreneur, the keywords you target can spell the difference between success and failure. Particularly in the evolving world of pay-per-click advertising, the keywords you choose can increase your costs ten fold without you even realizing it. This article will take you through a process for selecting effective keyword phrases while minimizing the competition you'll encounter along the way.

The first place you should look is your competition. Visit the websites of your competition, right click and view the source code for their site. Right at the top, you'll see the meta tags including the keywords they've chosen for their own website. Make note of the ones you think would work well for your own business as well.

Take those keywords and enter them into the publicly-accessible keyword tool on the Google Adwords platform. This tool will bring up a long list of related keyword phrases and display the search volume compared with the competition for those phrases inside the Adwords platform. Even if you have no intention of using the Adwords program, this competition reading is a valuable indicator of the competition in general for those phrases.

This exercise will open your eyes to all the other keyword phrases you could use that you might not have thought of earlier. The idea is to find a phrase that has respectable search volume while having little competition. That will give you the shortest path to success in terms of search engine optimization.

Once you have selected a list of phrases you might be interested in, enter each one into a standard Google search, along with quotation marks. Make note of the number of listings that come up for each phrase. This is another gauge of the organic competition you'll be facing. You'll quickly notice that some phrases bring up far fewer listings than others. Those are the ones you want.

The last step involves entering the phrases you selected into the publicly-accessible WordTracker keyword tool. This tool estimates the total daily search volume for each phrase. Although the Google platform attempts to give this information as well, it's presented as a bar chart and you'll quickly notice that some of the phrases have far higher daily search volume than others.

The idea is to pick a series of keyword phrases that have limited competition but sizable search volume. Once identified, you can position your website around those phrases and have a quick assent in the Google page ranking system for those phrases. In my own experience, I managed to get my new website onto the first page of a Google search within just 17 days! <bio>Tactical Execution with Patrick Schwerdtfeger (http://www.tacticalexecution.com) is a strategic company focused on growth marketing and program implementation across business markets. That is an anathema to an online marketer! <bio>Chris Angus is a SEO and website promoter, he can be contacted at sales(at)brilliantseo.com http://www.chooseinsurance.co.uk http://www.mobility-direct.co.uk http://www.illustratemyname.com </bio>

If you are the owner or operators of an online business enterprise, you may be interested in developing different schemes through which you can increase traffic to your Internet website and increase your customer or client base. Of course, more customers and clients means more revenue and profits for your business.

One methodology that more and more web based business owners are employing when it comes to increasing traffic to an Internet website is the use of keywords within a website and within articles included within the Internet website in question.

Of course, if you are going to use keyword enriched articles or if you are going to include keywords and keyword phrases (with the intent of drawing more traffic to your website) you will want to make certain that you are using keywords and keyword phrases that actually will attract more traffic to your web based business venue.

There are now services on the Net that will provide you with a listing of the most popular keyword searches (on search engines) at any particular point in time. By incorporating these popular key word phrases, keywords and keyword search terms into your website and into articles appropriately maintained at your website, you will be in a far better position to increase traffic to your website -- you will increase the number of potential clients and customers who pay visits to your website business.

Some search engines offer programs which can assist a business in developing an overall marketing campaign for a Net based business that includes the use of keyword enriched content and keyword enriched articles that can be included within the confines of an Internet website.

Finally, you might want to consider engaging the assistance of a professional in your overall plan to develop a meaningful keyword based marketing campaign for your Internet website. A professional, a SEO professional, can assist you in developing both website content and articles that include worthwhile and meaningful keywords and keyword phrases -- words and phrases specifically designed to increase your ranking on search engines, and thus increase traffic to your website venue. Again, increased traffic generally translates into an increase in revenues and profits for your Internet business enterprise. Of course, you will want to use a reliable and qualified SEO professional to assist you in developing your own Internet marketing campaign that incorporates keywords and keyword phrases effectively. <bio>James Brown writes about http://www.textlinksnow.com ,http://www.gettextlinks.com/ and http://www.linksboom.com/ </bio>

Keyword research is such a vital aspect to your overall success online that it simply can't be ignored. You need to be able to find good keywords to target, quickly and easily. There are many paid options out there for your keyword research, but I must say that the only keyword research tool that I use currently is a completely free tool from the most powerful search engine online, Google. That is right, I use the free Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

The Google Adwords Keyword Tool is arguably the best keyword research tool available. With their latest update, I can now make this claim. This tool now gives you actual numbers from Google itself that tells you the volume of searches that are done on a given keyword. Before this tool would give you a bar with a volume indicator on it, but now they give you actual numbers. These numbers can really help you identify good keywords that you should be focusing on for your website.

How To Use This Tool More Effectively?

One simple method for utilizing this tool more effectively is to type in the main keyword of your niche that you are trying to target, and make sure that "Use Synonyms" is checked. That will bring up potentially hundreds of other keyword combinations that either use that phrase or a similar phrase.

Once you get your results you can find good niche phrase to easily rank for by sorting by the Advertister Competition. Look for the keywords that get some search volume, but have little advertiser competition or no advertiser competition.

Once you find these keywords you can go to Google and search for that phrase in there. The logic behind this method is that if people aren't paying for these keywords in Adwords, than chances are people aren't trying to optimize for this phrase on their website. Since there is less competition trying to rank for a phrase there is a better chance you have of getting targeted traffic from that keyword phrase.

Now, I am not saying that you just focus on these niche phrases when you optimize. You should optimize for the more broad phrases on the main parts of your website, but these longtail phrases are great for writing posts or for getting good search engine rankings for niche phrases. Don't get discouraged if a keyword only has 1,000 visitors per month. That is not a bad thing because if you can get 5% of those visitors each month, that is an additional 50 targeted prospects that will see what you offer, and you do the work once to get ranked.

Why Does This Tool Blow The Competition Out of the Water?

Many of you are familiar with WordTracker as a keyword research tool. I feel that this tool totally blows Wordtracker out of the water because I feel the data is more accurate than WordTracker, and also the amount of keywords that this tool picks up way exceeds WordTracker and their limited resources. The other reason I like this tool better is the price. It is FREE! You can't lose with it.

Other Important Notes

Also, when using this tool and considering the volume they show there, remember that these numbers do not represent data from other search engines like Yahoo or MSN. So keep in mind that across the board the volume is higher.<bio>Paul Counts is an SEO consultant and Internet entrepreneur.
Search engine optimization is considered by many to be somewhat of an art form. Although it certainly can be taken to different levels that most of us are unable to achieve, basic SEO is relatively easy to grasp. As long as you have the basics down, you are able to rank for a surprising number of keywords and keyword phrases, most of which are simply up for grabs within the search engine results. After you have the basics down, however, learning some tips on SEO is going to help you to improve those rankings dramatically. Here are a few to get you started.

Get Those Links - Having links coming back in your website is a basic part of search engine optimization but it is also one of the tips on SEO that should simply not be overlooked. Unfortunately, many people give up on looking for links eventually because they find them too difficult to acquire. If you are having a difficult time getting fresh links back into your website, try doing a little bit of article marketing or perhaps commenting on blog posts that are directly related to your website. You would be surprised with how much of a boost these simple efforts will give you.

Vary Your Link Text - If you are using incoming links in order to boost your search engine optimization, and you really should be doing this, make sure that you vary the link text to a certain degree. Even if you are going after one major keyword or keyword phrase, if you have all of the incoming links say the same thing, it may be regarded by the search engines as being unnatural. There's nothing wrong with going for several different keyword phrases and varying those phrases whenever you get incoming links. You may actually rank for other keywords as a result.

Go Deep - Don't put all of your efforts into acquiring links directly to your main page. Getting a few links that are optimized for keyword phrases to pages that are deep within your website will not only help your website overall to rank well, it may help those pages rank for that specific keyword. Just remember, the more pages of yours that are accessed via the search engines, the more entry into your website you are going to acquire. Don't overlook the smaller pages on your website because an army of them can bring you in unbelievable traffic.

Use the Meta Tags Well - As far as tips on SEO are concerned, this is probably one that you are more likely to overlook. Meta tags have lost some of their power but there are still some that you should take the time to use. For example, when you use the meta description tag, the text that you use will actually show up in the search engine result pages in many cases, directly underneath the title. Not only can you use it for optimization purposes, you may be able to use the tag to make your link more inviting.<bio>Alvin Jay are also known as Savant Consultants, specializing in providing search engine optimization work for businesses.
Once you have selected the keywords that you want to use in your SEO there are ways that you can use them to intelligently increase the attractiveness of your copy to both readers and the search engines.

First of all it is key to use keywords and keyword phrases in all of your headlines and subtitles. However only do this if the keyword actually augments rather than distorts the title of your site. Your best bet is to try to keep the title a complete sentence well at the same time trying to capture the gist by using one or two well-chosen, high ranking keywords. When writing copy try using keywords in the first sentence, last sentence and at least once in each paragraph. This is a rule that many professional SEO copywriters follow in attempt to make their technical writing sound more like "natural language." Both humans and spiders dislike robotic language.

Don't be afraid to bold, underline or italicize your keywords. They also stand out if they are used in bulleted links or if they are included in photo or image captions. This type of treatment can help highlight the words or phrases, not only to the reader, but also for the search engine.

Avoid using focused keyword phrases when a broad term is required. Not every generic phrase that you see is an open call to insert a keyword phrase. Also avoid using the same keyword phrase several times in a paragraph if you can. This is called keyword stuffing.

In conclusion the only sure way to test your keyword optimized search engine friendly copywriting is to post it online and then try searching for it in an engine. If type in the keyword phrase and it turns up, then you have done an excellent job as at SEO copywriting. <bio>Chris Angus is a SEO and website promoter, he can be contacted at sales(at)brilliantseo.com http://www.chooseinsurance.co.uk http://www.mobility-direct.co.uk http://www.everest-oxfordshire.co.uk </bio>

If you are the owner, operator or manager of an Internet business, you likely find yourself constantly on the hunt for ways in which you can draw more traffic to your Internet business website. In this regard, one program that you might want to consider implementing is the use of keyword enriched articles at your Internet website. In this regard, you may not understand exactly what is meant by and involved with keyword enriched articles.

When a person undertakes a search, using a search engine service on the Internet and World Wide Web, a person uses certain words and terms in order to find what he or she is seeking through a particular search engine search. Generally speaking, these words and terms and phrases are known as keywords and keyword phrases.

By way of example, say that you are a seller of widgets on the Internet, that you market widgets through your Internet based websites. If a person was looking for widgets, that person would type widgets or keyword phrases that contain the word widgets into a search engine search. If the word widgets is used appropriately on the website that you are operating, a person searching for widgets -- perhaps a person looking to buy widgets -- very well may end up at your website. You will want your website to end up high on the list of a person's search results.

One method that you can utilize to ensure that your website obtains a higher ranking in searches relevant to your website and your business is the use of keyword enriched articles at your website. When a search engine undertakes a search, if you have properly placed keyword enriched articles at your website, you will be able to draw more traffic to your site because these search engines will pick up the keywords used in one or another of these articles.

When all is said and done, you will want to give serious consideration to the inclusion of keyword enriched articles at your business website. The use of keyword enriched articles within your business website can be a helpful tool to drawing more traffic to your business website, to drawing more customers of clients to your business. In the end, the use of keyword enriched articles can work to increase the profits from your business enterprise both now and well into the future. <bio>Dana Bradley writes about http://www.galaxyoflinks.com/ and http://www.gettextlinks.com </bio>

Finding ourselves at the top of the search engine results pages can certainly put a smile on our face. After all, many of us spend a lot of time, effort and sometimes money in order to achieve these rankings. There are times, however, whenever a good search engine ranking tool is going to help us with our efforts and make things a lot easier in the process. Although there are a few which give us a little bit of help with everything, it is often necessary for us to have a tool that does something specific. Here are several different things that a search engine ranking tool can and should do for you. Some of these will be covered by a single tool and others will be contained within a multi-tool.

Keyword Selection - There are several different tools that are available out there which can really make a difference as far as our keyword selection is concerned. After all, basic search engine optimization starts with the keyword phrases that we are going to choose. If we are able to choose these phrases wisely, it is difficult to tell how far our business can go. If we pick the wrong phrases, we will be disappointed with our efforts. Not only should one of these tools help us to pick the keyword phrases individually, it should also be able to check on the search engines to see how much competition it has. By choosing words that are directly related to whatever we are offering and then making sure we are able to rank for those keywords without too much effort, we take a lot of the guesswork out of the entire process.

Looking for Links - As far as a search engine ranking tool is concerned, one of the backbones is having a tool that will help us to acquire new links. Some of these tools need to be avoided because they tend to find us links that we really don't want or that may harm our ranking in one way or another. Having a search engine ranking tool that helps us to acquire new one-way links into our website, however, can really give our rankings a boost and save us a lot of time in the process. Many of these tools include ones that find related websites for us to contact, distribute articles that we write and find blogs where we can leave a comment. Having a tool such as this will help speed up your backlinking campaign.

Checking Your Rankings - Another thing that can be very beneficial to us is to have a search engine ranking tool that will actually check the keywords that we are targeting to see where our pages are listed. We are then able to tell at a glance if we are improving as far as our search engine optimization is concerned or if we tend to be falling away. We will then know if we need to adjust our efforts in one way or another.<bio>Alvin Jay are also known as Savant Consultants, specializing in providing search engine optimization work for businesses.
Many of us consider ourselves to be somewhat efficient with search engine optimization. We tend to come on the Internet with the opinion that we need to be the jack of all trades as far as our Internet businesses concerned. For most of us, this is done out of necessity because we are not able to afford somebody to do the job for us at first. For others, it is the thrill of the challenge and watching our websites move up through the rankings in the search engines gives us a real boost. If you like to take care of these things yourself, here is an SEO checklist so that you don't miss any part of the process.

Choose Your Keywords - This is the first step in the SEO checklist and one that should never be skipped. In order for us to get targeted traffic to our website, we need to target keywords and keyword phrases that are actually being searched for on the search engines. There are plenty of tools that will help us to do this and they really take the guesswork out of the process.

Check the Competition - At its most basic level, we would need to make sure that it was not too much competition for this keyword phrase in Google. The easiest way for us to do this is by searching on Google for the keyword phrase inside of quotes. There are some programs out there that automate this process and can do so for hundreds of different keyword phrases. Just knowing that there is a little bit of competition is enough for some people but others want to know how well the top listings are positioned. This will give you an idea as to whether you will be able to overtake them or not.

Build the Page - Make your page according to the keyword phrase that you are using and include it in the title, toward the top of the page and naturally throughout the page. Don't worry too much about the keyword percentage, just make sure that you are using it wherever it fits into the content.

Get Some Links - You should not only be trying to get links to your main page, you should be trying to get links to every webpage on your site that you possibly can. Having links coming in to internal pages can greatly boost their rankings in the search engine and send you an unbelievable amount of traffic.

Don't Stop - If you build a webpage and get a few links coming into it, you may get a handful of visitors to it every day. Don't ever stop building new webpages because that is what is going to make you successful in the long run. Once you find something that is working as far as search engine optimization is concerned, make sure that you duplicate it with as many pages as possible. Only then will you understand exactly how powerful going through a SEO checklist can be.<bio>Alvin Jay are also known as Savant Consultants, specializing in providing search engine optimization work for businesses.
The most important ingredient for online success is the ingredient most people pass by. It's the foundation. It's the groundwork that forms the basis of everything you do thereafter. Without laying the foundation, all your efforts will produce inferior results. This article will briefly describe the first steps to building a successful online business.

The first thing you need to do is identify your target market. This may sound overly simplistic but you need to get specific here. Who is your market? Who are they? What do they do? What do they have in common? Try to get as specific as possible and write everything down. Make a series of bullet points describing your target market, your audience, your ideal customer.

Once you know who you're targeting, you need to develop a list of keyword phrases. This should start with a visit to your competitors' sites where you can view their meta tags and see what they're targeting. The next step is to put your favorite keywords into the publicly-accessible Google keyword tool to see which words have the greatest organic search volume while encountering the least amount of competition.

Take those keyword phrases and enter them into a Google search to see what the competition is in the organic world (as opposed to the ppc world). And lastly, enter them into the WordTracker keyword tool to get an estimate of their actual daily search volume. With these four steps, you should be able to find a series of keyword phrases you can target that have the least amount of competition.

With your targeted keyword phrases in hand, you can begin writing your positioning statement. Your positioning statement should be between 15 and 25 words long and should accurately and concisely describe your business such that anyone reading it for the first time could immediately identify your business and core competency.

Your positioning statement should be included in your meta tags as your website description. It should also be included on your homepage so visitors will see it first when they enter your site. Lastly, your positioning statement should be used in every online location that includes a backlink to your website, including article directories, forums posts and email signatures.

Go back to WordTracker and get a one-day membership. Enter your chosen keyword phrases and print out the related words it generates. The search engines look for related words when they index your website and the best resource for determining the related words you should be using is WordTracker. The one-day membership will cost you about $8.

Keep the list of keyword phrases and their related words near by when you begin building out your website. You should get in the habit of incorporating them as often as possible on your individual webpages. This will become natural after a while but a conscious effort needs to be made at the beginning to develop the pattern. Your keywords should also be included in the meta tags of each page on your website, customized for the content on that particular page.

Taking these steps will leave you with a better foundation than 99% of the websites out there. It really doesn't take that much time. You can do most of it in a single afternoon but the impact on your websites focus and search engine ranking will magnify all the other internet marketing activities you undertake. Lay the foundation first and move forward afterwards. <bio>Tactical Execution with Patrick Schwerdtfeger (http://www.tacticalexecution.com) is a strategic company focused on growth marketing and program implementation across business markets.
To understand SEO you need to start at the very beginning. This involves choosing the right keywords that represent your core business. Here's how!

Search engine optimization is the key to achieving high rankings with top search engines. Without good SEO skills, your site simply won't show up near the tops of those rankings and you won't be connected with a good supply of potential customers. Even if you understand what SEO is, you still need to understand a few more important points about how to do search engine optimization effectively.

Choosing Keyword Phrases

Any SEO activities must begin with you selecting specific keyword phrases with which to work. These phrases are important because they will be at the heart of your content. More importantly, these are the words you predict people will enter into search engines in order to find the types of products or services you offer. The good news is you don't have to be psychic to choose these keywords. You'll find several free tools on the Internet and many Internet marketing products come with keyword finding tools.

Here's how it works

Think of a phrase you might use if you were a potential customer for your site. Go to the tool and enter the phrase. Let's say you sell an ebook on dog training so you naturally choose the phrase "dog training" to enter into the keyword tool. Usually, the tool will give you the search engine volume for the phrase you've entered.

That lets you know how frequently people are using the term in their searches. For "dog training," you'll probably good average to high volume results. That means it's a good possibility but most keyword tools also show you how many of your competitors are also using that keyword for their optimization. If that number is very high, your chance of ranking well using that keyword phrase with your SEO is going to be reduced.

The good news is that the keyword tool should also show you a list of alternative keywords that you could use in addition to or instead of the one you initially entered. For example, "best dog training" may still have good search volume but it may not be used by as many competitors. If you optimize for that word, then you stand a better chance of achieving a solid ranking thanks to your SEO. You might also choose a phrase like "pet obedience school" which has almost no use by your competition but does have low search volume. That means some people are searching for the phrase but not many sites have utilized the term. It could be a good bet for decent rankings as well.

Next SEO Steps

You should choose more than one keyword for your efforts. Remember the more words you optimize for the more you increase your chances of scoring high in the rankings for at least one of the terms. Plus, showing up in search engine results for multiple terms means you'll have even greater exposure to potential customers and leads.

After you've chosen several words, you'll need to begin constructing your content around those words. Although a little tricky, SEO isn't as challenging as you might think.<bio>Once you have picked the right keyword, that's half the job done.
If you have thought about starting your own website or already have one, and have done any research at all, you have read about the importance of keywords. Everything on the web is driven by keywords. It's the fuel the Internet runs on.

One of the ways to get great traffic to your website is through the Google Adwords program. You select the keywords you want to bid on and set up the budget you want to use to get traffic based on those keywords from websites that utilize the Google Adsense program and other sources.

There is a tool to help you choose the best keywords to bid on that you definitely need to know about. I just learned about it from a friend, so we are going to learn how to use it together. Open a new browser window and copy and paste this address into your address bar.

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

If you are not sure about all of the terms used in association with keywords and Google's Adwords program, click that very first link that says, "keywords for your ad campaigns". You can use that as a guide if we get into unfamiliar territory.

In that first paragraph is a link titled, "Learn More", that gives a more detailed explanation about using the Google Keywords Tool. In this article, I am going to try to give you the information in layman's terms to make it easier to understand.

As with anything, you should also at some point read the terms of service. It is always a good idea to read the terms of service for any program you are about to use. But we will skip that step for now.

We all think we know which keywords we want to and are targeting with our website. I just had a humbling experience. I have been at this for a long time and have a lot of experience in optimizing websites for keyword content. However, I just clicked the tab at the Google Keyword Tool that says, "Site-Related Keywords ", to extract keywords from one of my own websites and can see that it is not optimized for the keyword I would have chosen.

You may want to do this first. Put in your URL and let it pull out the keywords it finds to be most relevant to your website. You might be as surprised as I was. Now I am going to be re-writing some of the text content at my website before I bid on any Google Adwords. Without the Google Keyword Tool, I would have likely just wasted money.

Make sure your website is optimized for the keywords that you wish to target by analyzing it with the Google Keyword Tool before bidding on your Google Adwords.

Now, using the other tab, "Keyword Variations", you can type in one keyword phrase or keyword per line and it will give you suggestions as to other keywords and phrases you can bid on that are related to your topic. (I like to type in one keyword or phrase at a time)

The suggestions the Google keyword Tool creates for you are based on statistical data Google compiles from the numerous searches that occur daily through their search engine, so those keywords and phrases are more likely to produce targeted traffic to your website.

As you type in each keyword or phrase and check the results the Google Keyword Tool gives you, look over to the right. You can add the keywords and phrases you might like to bid on. Create your list as you go. You can always edit it down to a few later on.

Once you have your list of keywords and phrases you might want to bid on, you can login to your Google Adwords account and check to see how much it will cost you for each of them. Then you can decide how to spend your budget wisely. Nothing replaces good research. The Google Keyword Tool takes a lot of the guesswork out of buying Google Adwords and I applaud them for creating this great tool.

Now, what they do not say anywhere at the Google Keyword Tool website, is that you can use this tool to analyze your competitor's websites as well. Go to Google and type in your targeted keyword or phrase. Copy the URL of the top 10 results. Analyze each of them using the "Site Related Keywords" tab at the Google Keywords Tool.

By doing this, you will see what keywords and phrases their websites are optimized for. If you want to compete with them, you need to optimize your website in a similar way and you may want to start bidding on keywords and phrases that match those that were pulled from competing websites.

Follow success and it will follow you. Do what successful people are doing and you are likely to also achieve success. The Google Keyword Tool can help you do that. <bio>Chris McElroy aka NameCritic has been involved in Internet Marketing sinced 1995 when Yahoo had over 200,000 websites listed. http://www.blogs.pn - http://www.articlecontentprovider.com - http://www.affiliatewebsitedesign.com - http://www.thingsthatjustpissmeoff.com - http://www.wholettheblogout.com </bio>
