As any doctor or mental health specialist will tell you there are different types of depression. Each of these depression types will manifest themselves in the person in completely different forms. Currently there are some well documented types of depression that various people in the world are afflicted with. Also each of the depression disorders can have similar and different symptoms.

Since each of the depression types vary the severity of their symptoms and the level of persistence can be different for each sufferer. The main types of depression are Major or Unipolar Depression, Chronic or Dysthymia depression, and Manic or Bipolar Depression. Besides the main depression types there are subdivisions of these disorders. As the different types of depression have a completely different effect on each person, the method of treatment must also be individualized.

With Major depression the symptoms are the same as depression, they are however more intense than normal depression symptoms. These symptoms will interfere with the daily activities of the individual. The work, study, eating and sleep patterns can become disturbed. The person will not be able derive any pleasure from their earlier activities. The depressive attacks of Major depression can be debilitating and the quality of life becomes noticeably poorer.

In Major depression the episodes can be either single occurring or recurring. A single occurring episode will vanish after the treatment has taken effect. For a recurring Major depression there will be a phase of Major depression followed by depression. These bouts of depression are followed by perhaps several years of normal depression free life. The attacks can then occur without any warning.

Chronic depression is less severe than either Major depression or Bipolar depression. The symptoms are life long. A person who has Chronic depression can still carry out their lives without any interference from the symptoms. There is a strong possibility of double depression occurring to the individual. Double depression is a mixture of Chronic depression and Major depression.

Bipolar depression is not as common as the other types of depression. The mood swings of this depression are cyclic. That is there are periods of euphoric highs and sad, worthless lows. There are times when the mood changes can be very rapid and dramatic. The symptoms of Bipolar depression include being overactive, having lots of boundless energy, loss of good judgment, feeling invincible amongst others.

All of the depression types have different ways of reacting with different individuals. Each of these depression symptoms need to receive the right sort of treatment. Therefore you should consult a doctor to have your depression diagnosed and treatment begun. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

There are many resources in today's world for someone who is wondering if they are suffering from depression and want to identify depression and self-test themselves. The internet is an option for those who are intimidated by telling a professional because so often feelings of guilt and shame accompany depression. In order to aid in the identity of depression and self-test, one has to understand that only a qualified professional is able to diagnose the disorder and administer medical treatment, if required.

There are a variety of questions that a professional would ask you, these are in the same vein when identifying depression and self-test. A series of questions would better help recognize that what the ailments may come from a chemical imbalance or other imbalances within the body. There are many symptoms of depression and self-test may be the only available option to you so you should begin by looking at some symptoms and if you are displaying many of them, depression and self-test may be the road for you to follow preliminarily.

There are many depression guides online available to absolutely anybody who has an internet connection. They are private and you do not have to leave personal information. They tend to outline symptoms more than to recognize depression and self test but are still very useful in the identifying and treatment.

Having trouble sleeping at night is a major sign that depression might be setting in. Crying spells, or feeling like crying and loss of appetite are symptoms that depression is present. The mind feels like it is in a state of constant fog and habitual tiredness and lack of energy are indicators in depression and self-test.

Suffering from the feeling of inferiority and uselessness, the inability to make decisions, the lack of libido can also be factors in distinguishing depression and self-test. Feeling unsure about the future, restlessness and a general feeling of not being either wanted or needed often appear in individuals displaying depression.

The best advice for depression and self test, would be to seek professional help to be sure that you are not suffering symptoms of an underlying issue that is being hidden by depression symptoms. Self-testing is a wonderful option but it should only be used as a practical guideline and cannot be compared to a diagnosis by a qualified professional.
When you are suffering from a serious medical condition like diabetes, high blood pressure or even depression there are ways to see the first signs and symptoms of a serious illness. With depression screenings it is possible for people who would otherwise not seek medical aid to know if they need medical treatment for depression.

The National Depression Screening Project sponsors National Depression Screening Day. They also operate toll free, year round phone lines. Callers can find out about confidential screening locations that are near them.

There are many reasons why a person should go for depression screenings. Reasons like the fact that depression can happen to any person at any time of their lives, making it vital to know early on if you are a potential depression victim. Other reasons for depression screenings include knowing that depression can complicate any existing medical conditions that you might have.

In spite of the fact that depression is a mood disorder, many people still believe that the symptoms of depression are a normal part of life. Since anyone can be affected by depression, having a depression screening early on can help you to control and cure the effects of depression. Taking a depression test is the first step to getting some much needed help.

Depression screenings offer individuals the chance to find out if they are potential sufferers of depression. These screenings also let the various people know and understand what depression really is. They also are informed about the various types of depression and the symptoms of depression.

By going for depression screenings you can ask for information regarding depression and the available treatments and medications that you may need. Should you need information about any medical or mental health care facilities that are near, the Depression Screening Project will be able to provide you with this information.

All of the Depression Screenings are free and they are also confidential. While you are there you can listen to an educational session about depression. This information will make you understand every aspect of depression and what it can do to your life. There will be a written exam that you need to complete. When you receive the results you can talk with any of the doctors who are there. They will provide you with all of the information that you require.

People who suffer from depression need to see a doctor and receive some help and advice. While depression screenings can inform you if you are showing the signs of depression it does not replace medical evaluation or a trained mental health specialists advice and aid. Depression screenings point out the signs and symptoms of depression early in the illness so that you can get help before the depression becomes too severe. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

Depression can affect the working ability, family and social life of a person. This is why we should never try to ignore or hide depression. It is important to be aware of the symptoms, the causes and what possibilities we have to try and prevent it in our lives.

Each of us has had a depressing sad moment at some point in our lives. Depression is a normal human reaction associated with bereavement, pressures of life or maybe the break up of a relationship. Sometimes the feeling of sadness passes but sometimes it doesn't, if it becomes more persistent it can lead to depression. Diseases of the nervous system are very serious and that is why it is important not to ignore depression and to get proper help when we realize there is a problem.

Listed below are some symptoms of depression:

* Feeling sad * Loss of energy * Loosing hope in life * Not finding pleasure doing the things you used to love * Can't concentrate * Always crying * Sleeping a lot * Can't sleep * Loss of appetite

What causes depression? This is a complicated question because there isn't a single cause for depression. This is a complex disease that can appear as a result of multiple causes. Depression can also be transmitted among people that are close to each other, by influence.

There is proof that people suffering from depression suffer brain changes. There is also evidence that illustrates how depression can also be genetic. Children can be affected by parents who suffer from. Also it seems that parents whose children suffer from chronic depression are more likely to be affected themselves by this illness.

To prevent depression we have to know ourselves very well. Treatable depression can be hard to prevent once we are already down in the dumps. The best method to avoid another crisis after a chronic depression is to keep our eyes open for its symptoms and its causes. If we feel we are loosing control then getting professional help would be the right direction to take. <bio>Malcolm Moorhouse is a Psychic and Reiki teacher with more than 16 years experience.
There are three main categories of depression disorder. They are known as Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Depression Disorder and Major Depression Disorder. Of the three mood disorders Major Depression Disorder is the most severe. This disorder may also be called Severe Depression.

In Severe Depression the cause can be a single traumatic event in your life. It could even be the result of many personal disappointments and problems in your life. Sometimes it is possible to develop Severe Depression without any traumatic events or life problems. Still other times people who suffer from Chronic Depression can go into Severe Depression as a result of a traumatic event.

The symptoms of depression are also present in Severe Depression. They are however more intense than normal depression symptoms. For most people who suffer from Severe Depression, they can either have a recurring Severe Depression episode or their Severe Depression may occur only once in their lifetime and never reoccur again.

Recurring Severe Depression is where the individual will have periods of Severe Depression that are followed by periods of depression. After these bouts of depression are finished, they will be able to live at least several years without any episodes of depression. They may have another episode of Severe Depression which can arise due to some traumatic event. In a single episode of Severe Depression the symptoms occur due to a major traumatic event in the individual's life. Once medical treatment has taken effect, the Severe Depression will not occur again in their lifetime.

In general the medication that is prescribed for Severe Depression is anti-depressants. There are several types of depression medications that are used for Severe Depression. These medications include Tricyclics, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, Serotonin Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors, Noradrenergic and Serotonergic anti-depressants, Serotonin 5-HT (2) Receptor Antagonists, Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors and Bupropion.

The other type of treatment that works for Severe Depression is that of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The best method of treatment is that of medication combined with cognitive therapy. The therapy is used to treat the psychological aspects of Severe Depression while the medication will treat the symptoms of Severe Depression.

The intensified symptoms of Severe Depression include restlessness, irritability, insomnia, oversleeping, fatigue, thoughts of death, suicide, early morning waking, pessimism, hopelessness, weight loss or gain, and a change in appetite

These symptoms coupled with any traumatic incident or an accumulation of life problems can trigger either recurring Severe Depression or episodic Severe Depression. Both types of Severe Depression need to be treated as the consequences can be life threatening. Should you suspect that you may be having Severe Depression then you should get immediate medical help. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

Depression is not a small societal problem. It affects a rather large segment of our population. The word depression is a broad topic, and actually there are a variety of different type of the condition known as depression. These different types of depression are defined by different types of symptoms that are present.

The most commonly type of depression treated today is known as major depression. Major depression is denoted by a lack of energy by the individual, unable to get a good night's sleep, and just a general lethargic feeling or feeling blue for extended periods of time with no breaks in the mood and no apparent cause for the feelings.

For those suffering from major depression they have a tendency to stop doing those things that they normally enjoy doing. Major depression can be a condition that will not go away without proper treatment. These symptoms of major depression are usually defined as such when they persist for a period of at least two weeks without leaving. Although some people do get and stay better after a bout with major depression, many times the individual will have to do battle with these conditions several times throughout their lifetime.

Dysthymia is a type of depression that is not as severe as a major depression and is not as commonly discussed. People of suffer from dysthymia will often have the same symptoms of major depression just to a lessor degree. They may also only experience a select few of the symptoms that accompany a major depression. Due to the less pronounced symptoms a person who suffers from dysthymia can sometime do so for their entire lives without getting treatment.

A different type of depression and a very specific type is bipolar disorder. Bipolar doesn't occur nearly as frequently as the other forms of depression. This type of disorder is earmarked by the afflicted individual experiencing both extreme emotional highs along with extreme emotional lows. Because of the nature of these extremes, a person suffering from bipolar disorder can have their way of life devastated. During the highs they may become overly excited, very talkative, and even spend large amounts of money. While the low side is fraught with feeling blue and unsociable. This bipolar type of condition is one that needs to be addressed in order to be control-able.

If you suspect that someone that is close to you is experiencing any of these types of symptoms of the various depression sorts, you should recommend that they consider seeking professional assistance to get them on track.

Even though depression is a mental disorder, it presents itself as very real physical symptoms and should not be taken lightly. Healthcare providers today have a variety of options to treat depression including medications if necessary.

With depression it is not just a matter of 'snapping out of it'. If symptoms persist, get some help. <bio>For more important information on depression be sure to visit http://www.0-depression.com where you will find advice and tips on preventing and treating depression as well as other articles on keeping you living the fullest life you can. </bio>

As women approach midlife and menopause one of the things to be on the lookout for is depression. While menopause is not thought to be a cause of depression the two can occur at the same time. What is believed to be a cause of depression is changes in estrogen levels which occur during menopause. It is known that women are affected by depression over twice as much as men and that a family history of depression can factor into this as well.

The symptoms of depression and menopause are very similar and include sleep disorders, hot flashes, fatigue, anxiety, and irritability. Many women associate these symptoms with the changes that menopause brings, but they may be a sign of depression that needs to be understood and dealt with. There is no reason women need to suffer from depression during menopause. It is important that they accept the physical changes happening to their bodies during this time and work with their doctor to mitigate the symptoms of menopause, but it is also important that they realize that depression and menopause can be mutually exclusive and both can be dealt with.

As women approach menopause their menstrual cycles begin to change and start to become unpredictable. This unpredictability of their monthly cycle is a sign of erratic ovulation. Erratic ovulation causes unpredictable releases of the hormones estrogen and progesterone leading to mood swings, forgetfulness, hot flashes and all the other symptoms associated with menopause.

Most women going through menopause feel that they are loosing control of their bodies when in fact it is just their natural reaction to the aging process. This feeling of loss of control can lead to symptoms of depression. As the symptoms of both menopause and depression worsen they start to feel that there is nothing they can do and a feeling of hopelessness falls over them. This feeling of hopelessness is a major part of depression and left untreated can lead to severe depression.

Untreated depression is a major health risk. Researchers have found that depression is linked to an increased risk of heart disease and in some cases it can lead to bone deterioration increasing the likely hood of osteoporosis and broken bones.

The treatment for depression and menopause can follow a two pronged approach. It is important to treat not only the depression with antidepressant medications and counseling but also to treat the symptoms of menopause as well. Menopause can be treated with hormone replacement therapy where synthetic forms of estrogen and progesterone are used to even out the woman's hormone levels.

If you are a woman approaching midlife and menopause be aware that depression can be a very real side affect of the changes that will happen to you. If start to see the symptoms of depression it is best to talk to your doctor about what treatment options may work best for you. <bio>Andrew Bicknell is a writer and owner of http://depression.health-choices-net.com.
Depression is an illness of the mind. It is where neurotransmitters in the brain are not balanced out. There is no way to overcome this illness without treatment and it can be serious and in some cases harmful.

Some of the symptoms of depression include:

- Feeling sad and upset a lot of the time.

- Thinking about the bad things in life and what has went wrong with your life.

- You feel like you're always weighing other people down and holding them back from having a good time.

- You have physical pain over different parts of your body that has no medical cause.

Depression affects many people of this world and probably affects you or someone close to you. The good thing about it being so common is how easy it is to find a cure. Some of the cures for depression include:

- Medication. Medication includes different types of medicines which help to fight the symptoms of depression. They fall under three main categories.

1. Tricyclics (example: Norpramin) 2. SSRI (example: Prozac) 3. MAOI (example: Nardil) 4. St. Johns' Wort has also been proven effective in curing depression. This is an all natural herbal cure which some people prefer to medication.

Acupuncture has also been tried to help treat depression patients.

Changing the way you feel about yourself. While this seems like it wouldn't work one of the best ways to fight this disease is to look at life with a positive attitude. What this means is to mentally tell yourself to stop sulking around and to think of all the good things that life has brought you.

Depression can be caused by abuse, bad feelings, and mental expectations that you can't meet. Verbal and mental abuse seems to be some of the leading causes of depression. Some scientists believe that depression is a way of the patient asking to be treated better by the people around them. Studies suggest that depression works, in a way to achieve that goal.

If you have depression it's best you seek immediate advice about how to treat your disease. Remember, if not taken seriously it can cause harmful long term effects. <bio>More resources: Depression Treatment and Medication - http://www.depressiontreatmenthelp.org/ Clinical Depression Causes and Symptoms - http://www.depressiontreatmenthelp.org/clinical_depression.php Causes of Depression - http://www.depressiontreatmenthelp.org/causes_of_depression.php </bio>

Chronic Depression which is a less severe form of depression is also called Dysthymia. While this is not a severe condition of depression the symptoms of this disorder can last for quite a long period of time. Therefore it should be given the same concern as the other more debilitating forms of depression.

The symptoms of Chronic Depression are about the same as major depression. They include difficulty sleeping, loss of interest in one's daily activities, being unable to enjoy one's life, loss of energy, fatigue, changes in appetite, mental and physical sluggishness, thoughts of death or even suicide, difficulty concentrating, trouble making decisions and thinking, excessive feelings of guilt and worthlessness.

These symptoms can sometimes last for years. People who have Chronic Depression can lead normal lives and perform all of their tasks adequately but they are unable to shake off the unhappiness that consistently grips them. Besides suffering from Chronic Depression some people will also experience a condition called Double Depression. Double Depression occurs when a person suffers a Major Depressive episode and their mood swings towards a Chronic Depressive mood.

In Double Depression the person suffers from the severe symptoms of Major Depression as well as the milder symptoms of Chronic Depression. The symptoms of Chronic Depression include difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, loss of energy or fatigue, loss of interest, the inability to enjoy oneself, physical and mental sluggishness, difficulty in concentrating, thinking or making decisions, excessive feelings of guilt and worthlessness as well as death and suicide.

Chronic Depression can affect any one who is aged 18 and over. There are currently about 10.9 million American adults who suffer from Chronic Depression. For depression to be medically classified as Chronic Depression the symptoms must be present for a period lasting longer than two weeks.

Even though the symptoms may last for 2 or more weeks, it is necessary for a mental health specialist to rule out that there is any other illness that is causing these symptoms. Once it is certain that the individual is suffering from Chronic Depression then medical treatment for the depression can be started. One way that Chronic Depression can be diagnosed is by examining the psychiatric history of the patient and their family. Any family history of Chronic Depression will indicate that the individual symptoms do indicate Chronic Depression.

While Chronic Depression is a serious illness it can be treated and its victims do not have to suffer needlessly for years. There are currently a range of medications and therapies that work quite while at controlling the initial stages of the disorder. After a period of time you can see an improvement in the quality of your life. So if you suffer from Chronic Depression don't lose heart, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

Are you severely or mildly depressed and wondering about acupuncture and depression? According to research and case studies, acupuncture is effective in treating depression. But, did you know that there is a way to treat the depression without the needles? More on that later.

It appears that the most effective treatment for depression is medication. After all it works. I've used medication for both depression and anxiety and have had phenomenal success in both cases. However, I prefer to use natural remedies whenever possible because medications do have side effects and also introduce toxic elements into the body.

So what about acupuncture and depression? The good news is there is some scientific research that supports the effectiveness of acupuncture in decreasing the severity of depression in patients. Remember that medical research doesn't really 'prove' anything, it just supports claims. It is really hard to conclusively prove claims.

Anyway, this study was conducted by the National Institute of Health in 1998. I will not bore you with the design of the study. You can look up the study and read that for yourself. I'll just share the results it found on acupuncture and depression. In this controlled experiment, all the participants that received acupuncture for depression collectively experienced a 43% reduction in their depression symptoms, which was 21% greater than the dummy control group. This suggests that the acupuncture did something for the depression symptoms.

Theory on acupuncture and depression is this. Acupuncture states that there are energy pathways in the body called meridians. Various illnesses occur when these meridians become blocked. The acupuncturist attempts to unblock the clogged up meridians by inserting needles into certain points along these meridians. When the energy is allowed to flow again, the symptoms of the illness subside. And so it is with acupuncture and depression.

If you don't like needles but are interested in the possibilities of acupuncture and depression, there is a form of acupressure that has been found to be equally successful. No needles here. It merely involves correctly tapping certain points on special meridians with your finger tips. The best thing about this approach is you can do it yourself. You don't need to pay a professional to do it for you. Although, that option does exist.

In any event, there is a lot of promise for acupuncture and depression. With the help of a qualified psychologist you can get your symptoms under control. <bio>Rich has put together several informative tips on acupuncture and health in the form of an email newsletter.
The term clinical depression, also called major depression refers to a medical term for any type of depression that needs some sort of treatment in order to alleviate it. Doctors also tend to use it as an umbrella term to cover various forms of depression. Very often depression is split into subtypes. These subtypes depend on the symptoms that are prevalent with each sort of depression. Clinical depression is a rather serious medical condition that can affect anybody. It can affect not only a person's mood and thoughts, but also the person's physical being. In other words it can affect the total person.

The symptoms of this disorder include loss of appetite, insomnia, guilt, feeling extremely sad and thoughts of suicide. Other signs sometimes include the inability to concentrate and finding it difficult to make decisions. There are some instances when a degree of depression is to be expected, for example when a person has been diagnosed with cancer, which is of course, understandable. So, of course it follows that when a diagnosis is carried out, any underlying causes must be thoroughly investigated.

In the case of children with clinical depression it is essential that they are diagnosed and treated as soon as possible, as it can have a detrimental effect on a child's schooling, home life and interaction with their peers.

There are a variety of ways to deal with clinical depression and the expert opinion is that the best form of treatment is by using antidepressant drugs in conjunction with a course of psychotherapy. The encouraging news is that with the correct diagnosis and course of treatment, clinical depression can be alleviated, with even the most serious cases usually responding to the correct treatment. As always if you have any concerns at all about yourself or. anybody close to you, please consult a qualified professional. <bio>James Hunaban is the owner of http://depression.health-info4u.com/ a site full of Depression information. </bio>

Feeling depressed is a normal part of being human. These feelings usually disappear after a few hours or even a few days. There are times though, when depression gets out of hand and lasts for months, it's this that is known as a depression disorder. These various types of depression are called Clinical depression. With Clinical depression the condition needs to be treated as soon as possible.

In Clinical depression some sort of treatment is needed to help control the symptoms or to prevent the depression from turning life threatening. There are three main types of Clinical depression. They are Unipolar or Major depression, Bipolar or Manic depression and Chronic or Dysthymia depression.

Each of these depression disorders can affect their sufferer differently. In general people who suffer from Major Clinical depression will have recurrent attacks. The severe depressed state can last from a few hours to a few months. These people will tend to feel absolutely worthless and feel a loss of motivation. Feelings of complete hopelessness and in many cases suicidal feelings may also be present.

For the sufferers of Bipolar Clinical depression they experience the same symptoms as Major Clinical depression. In addition their moods will swing towards a high euphoric state of mania. Then they will experience feelings of extreme low. While the sufferers are in the high mood they can exist for long periods of time with almost no food and no sleep.

These individuals will feel that they can accomplish anything and they will also feel invincible. These people sometimes believe that they have a personal communication link to God and their own personal celebrities. The other pattern of Bipolar Clinical depression is that these individuals have a very high thinking and speech process.

While sufferers of Chronic Clinical depression will not experience any of these symptoms they will suffer a prolonged feeling of being sad and depressed. They will experience no sense of personal satisfaction from their various day to day tasks. There maybe occasions when their depressed state could cause them to feel suicidal.

Any of these forms of depression are in their own way debilitating to the sufferer. However for any depression to be classified as a disorder it must last for quite a while without disappearing. While Chronic Clinical depression is not always life threatening, both Major Clinical depression and Bipolar Clinical depression need to be taken seriously and treated as soon as possible. Your doctor or physician can prescribe medication should you need to be treated for any of the forms of Clinical depression. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

There are some signs of depression that can give us an early indication if we or someone that we know is suffering from depression.

As depression causes us to withdraw from society the symptoms create a buffer zone between normal quality life and us. Besides isolating the sufferer depression contributes towards a deteriorating physical condition, disables our ability to function in society and it affects our emotional health as well.

To the outside observer the signs of depression can be seen as a form of withdrawal or agitation. For the individual who suffers from depression the signs of depression are an internal state of stress. Even though the signs of depression are the same, each person will react differently to depression symptoms.

In each individual the severity of the signs of depression can vary as well as the length of time. For depression to be diagnosed accurately the symptoms need to last for more than two weeks. Also the possibility that the symptoms may be another medical condition must also be investigated and ruled out before any treatment and medication is prescribed.

The signs of depression include anxiety, sad moods that linger, feelings of persistent pessimism, guilt, worthlessness, hopelessness, loss of interest in daily activities, loss of sexual functioning, decreased energy and fatigue, insomnia, restlessness, or irritability.

Weight loss which can attributed to the loss of appetite, or an increase in weight due to overeating, oversleeping, early morning awakening, difficulty in making decisions, concentrating and thinking are also signs of depression. Also there can be chronic unexplainable pains, stomach pains, headaches, thought of suicide and death.

Should you experience some or all of these signs of depression, it would be a good idea to consult with a trained mental health specialist to see what can be done to alleviate your suffering. You can also find out what you can do to prevent the signs from taking over your entire life.

Since depression can cause you to feel that living is pointless the idea of suicide might arise. However as depression can be treated successfully you need to get help as soon as you can and try to find some activity or social interaction where you can slowly rebuild your life. Depression does not have to rule your life. You have the means of destroying its hold on you. All that you need is to seek some professional medical help and you are on your way back into life. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

Depression. It's not just a word. It's not just "the blues." It's a serious medical condition that affects countless individuals around the globe. In fact, some statistics put the figure of people who suffer the symptoms of depression in the millions. Regardless of your age, gender, social status, or location, you or someone you love could become a victim in need of depression treatment.

However, many people experiencing the rollercoaster aren't happy about taking medications to control their the symptoms of depression. Rather than turning to Prozac or Paxil, they actively seek a natural depression treatment and keep the symptoms of depression such as lethargy, anger, "foggy" minds, and mood swings at bay. For those individuals, a diet rich in Vitamin B12 may help in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle.

About B12: More than a Depression Treatment

Vitamin B12, one of the "B" vitamins, promotes health by helping to maintain a decent red blood cell count and strong nerve connections. One of the reasons that B12 may assist depression treatment is that it has been shown to regulate synaptic receptors, thereby providing a conduit for emotional experiences to be transmitted throughout the body and brain. (Many believe that depression is entirely or partially caused by a breakdown of these receptors; thus, B12 could help pave the way for normal synaptic responses and relief from the symptoms of depression.)

Where to Find B12

Fortunately for people suffering the symptoms of depression seeking an organic alternative to traditional prescription medications, B12 is relatively easy to find, even if you're on a limited, vegan, or vegetarian diet, as many foods are now fortified with the vitamin, including hot and cold cereals, crackers, soups, and breads.

B12 is also found in many types of fish, meat, dairy products, and eggs; try to eat around 6.0 micrograms of B12 per day, in accordance with FDA recommendations and based on a 2,000 calorie diet. (Obviously, this figure will need to be "tweaked" depending on patient's age, weight, and the symptoms of depression.)

How Long will B12 Take to Have an Effect as a Depression Treatment?

Because every individual will suffer depression symptoms unique to them, he or she will respond to B12 in a unique way. Therefore, one person may respond to an increase in B12 rather quickly, while another will not respond for weeks or months. The bottom line is to be patient when using B12 as a depression treatment because natural remedies often take a bit longer (but are vastly less taxing on the body) than their prescription counterparts.

It's also critical to ask your physician or mental health specialist about your decision to use B12 to as a depression treatment, as he may have extra hints on how to improve its effectiveness without medications. He might also be able to provide you with more Remember - depression is a controllable disease. Yes, it is difficult and sometimes overwhelming, but it doesn't have to define who you are as a person. You can overcome your depression naturally=85 and B12 may be the first step in depression treatment. <bio>Mitamins team bd@mitamins.net Targeted: Depression; Safety: Avoid Vitamins Overdose, Supplement Drug Interactions; Quality: Freshly Made with Brand Ingredients. vitamin support for Depression treatment(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Depression.html) </bio>

Are you depressed? If you are bothered by fleeting feelings of sadness, well, that is part of life. We are all affected by the little highs and lows that result from winters that last too long or a week when nothing goes right. But when you experience more severe feelings of sadness, and they last for more than two weeks, is it a good idea to ask your doctor to give you a depression test.

Depression is not uncommon in U.S. society. Approximately 20.9 million adults or 9.5 percent of the population age 18 or older will experience depression in any given year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

Before making a diagnosis of depression, doctors will judge the severity of a patient's symptoms, how many symptoms one has and how long they have experienced those symptoms. The National Institute of Mental Health published a list of a number of symptoms that medical professionals look for when they are trying to make a diagnosis of depression for a patient. Doctors base their diagnosis based on the results of a depression test that reveals the symptoms on this list as well as other factors.

There are several things you should consider when deciding whether you need to receive a depression test. Has someone in your family ever suffered from serious depression? Depression can be a hereditary condition. Mental health experts estimate that between 40 and 70 percent of depression cases are hereditary. This means that if a parent, grandparent, sibling or other close relative has ever suffered from depression, you are more likely to experience depression also, though this doesn't mean you will definitely ever become depressed.

Have you experienced a traumatic or significantly stressful event in your life recently? If you are having a hard time getting over such an event, you may want to have a depression test. Events such as the death of a loved one, or an event as stressful as divorce has the potential to trigger a severe depression, especially if you have family history of depression, but even if you don't.

Are you a woman? Women are more likely than men to become depressed but will often not receive a depression test because their symptoms are overlooked. Approximately 25 percent of all women experience symptoms of depression that are severe enough to require treatment. Women who have just given birth or who are nearing or have already experienced menopause are more likely to experience depression and should be particularly aware of their health at those times.

Do you have persistent feelings of severe sadness? Doctors giving a depression test will want to know if your have experienced profound helplessness, pessimism, worthlessness, anxiety, fatigue and irritability, or have entertained thoughts of suicide.

Are you having trouble sleeping? The symptoms a doctor will look for when giving a patient a depression test include whether the patient is suffering from insomnia, having difficulty sleeping through the night, wake up during the night and can't return to sleep, oversleeping in the morning or sleeping too much during the day.

Are you experience significant aches and pains that won't go away? While most people think that depression is characterized only by mood swings and feelings of sadness, chronic pain is also a symptom of depression and part of a medical depression test. Digestive disorders or persistent headaches or other chronic pain that isn't caused by some other illness and doesn't respond to treatment after two weeks could be a sign of depression.

If you have experienced several of these symptoms for more than two weeks, it is in your best interest to see your health care provider for a depression test to determine if you require treatment. <bio>Ryan King is a author that concentrates on helping people better understand depression, for cutting edge information you NEED to know about Depression check out his website at http://www.depressionhelpbook.com </bio>

Detecting anxiety and depression is one of the most important things you can do. It is truly the first step to recovery. To tell if you or a loved one is suffering from depression you will have at least five of the most common symptoms. These symptoms will effect your self-image in the following ways - feeling hopeless, feeling guilty, feeling worthless, feeling helpless, and feeling empty. If you feel any of these ways on a daily or regular basis, you may be suffering from depression. Other common symptoms are loss of interest in the activities that you enjoy the most and a decrease in energy in general. If you find yourself sulking away from society, be sure to confide in a close relative or a friend how things are going.

Failing to do so might be the last mistake you will ever make. You may also feel so tired and weak every day that its effecting your work or daily activities. Because your body feels so weak, you will find that it is difficult to concentrate. You may become spacey and even blackout from your depression. Because not only does your body feel tired, but you mind is tired to, you will have the worst time remembering things.

Another factor of depression is insomnia or hypersomnia. Insomnia is where you find it hard to fall asleep or to stay asleep. You may awaken yourself numerous times during the night or rise early. Hypersomnia is when you sleep long hours of the day. Some have been known to sleep through days. You may also feel like your restless or irritable on a daily basis. The restlessness could bring on thoughts of death or suicide because you cant control yourself anymore. Depression also affects our diets. You may stop eating or overeat.

So if you think you have any of these symptoms, you just might have a mild case of depression. Remember, however, that for depression to be depression and not just sadness, the effects have to persist for two weeks or more in length. Whatever the source of your feelings, talking with a good friend always helps. <bio>For more great air conditioner related articles and resources check out http://airconditionerhq.info </bio>

Kids don't have problems... right?

Well they are children and life should be joyful and childlike in happiness. However, that is not always the case since depression in children can strike children just as clinical depression can strike adults.

Has your child not been acting like themselves lately?

Have you noticed that your child is not eating as much as usual?

Are your children not enjoying the activities which used to entertain them for hours on end?

This could be due to something that happened recently (bad grades in school, a death in the family, etc.) and has them feeling down in the dumps, but if that's the case then you should know about it from your child and talk it through. If nothing (apparent to you) has happened recently which would cause this feeling to overwhelm your child, then it could be something more serious; it could be perhaps chronic depression.

Chronic depression is very serious, and when depression in children occurs, it frequently goes unnoticed. In these cases it is up to you to decipher fact from fiction between depression and a time of just being plain sad.

It is possible that your child could be dealing with depression if they have a loss of appetite. Are your kids eating or are your children eating significantly less than is normal for them?

Another symptom of depression to look out for is if your child has been depressed, without reason, for two to four weeks without resolution.

The best way to deal with on-going symptoms of sadness is to again try and talk it out.

Bobby pushed Lisa into the dirt... but that was 2 months ago? What's wrong with Lisa today?

Another symptom of depression in children is to look for how your children sound when they're talking to you. Do they seem to sigh a lot? This could be a subtle sign of pediatric depression. Be on the lookout.

Another way to tell if your child is suffering from depression is if they don't enjoy the activities which they used to. When was the last time your little artist picked up a crayon and a coloring book? Does your child sleep like they used to? If their sleeping pattern seems a little "off" then this could be a problem.

All of these symptoms are "alerts" to you and it's very important that you are aware of them. If your children match the attributes described above then they could be suffering from chronic depression.

The final note to remember now is that you cannot solve this problem alone. Depression can only be treated by doctors, particularly your child's pediatrician, so no self-diagnosis please. Also it's very important that you know that depression won't go away by itself.

Depression in children is not a sign of weakness.

It is medical condition that requires treatment. Depression in children is treated by professionally trained doctors. If your child seems to match the description above then see a doctor. Although depression in children can be difficult to deal with, but it doesn't have to exist in your child.

There are treatment options available that can help both you and your child. <bio>For more important information on depression be sure to visit http://www.0-depression.com where you will find advice and tips on preventing and treating depression as well as other articles on keeping you living the fullest life you can. </bio>

Depression is a psychological disease =96 an illness of the mind. Many depressed people often feel secluded and alone. They begin feeling depressed (this generally lasts for quite a long time) and do not tell anyone necessarily. They begin to feel that the sad feeling is their fault and nothing can help it. They become more nervous, may drastically change eating and sleeping habits. They often feel tired and unimportant. Only about one third of depressed people seek help for their condition. This may be because they are unaware that they are depressed or they think that nothing can help it. However, it's been shown that treatment helps in most cases. So, it's important and quite helpful for depressed people to seek treatment.

Understanding depression is important for the patient. This way they can begin to see that their depression is not something that they necessarily caused or that it's their fault. They can begin to see that depression can be helped and treated in a multitude of ways. Once depressed people learn about depression, they feel hope that they will feel happy and better some day.

One of the better known treatments for depression is using drugs. These must be prescribed. However, drugs are not the most effective way of treating depression. Drugs treat only the symptoms of depression and not the cause itself. Psychologically speaking, drugs may not help at all. Antidepressants are only effective in about one third of the cases in which they are applied; they're only partially effective in another third and completely ineffective in the last third. The rate of relapse of antidepressants is quite high. People may become Dependant on them for the rest of their lives. Some people find the side effects of antidepressants so unpleasant (and dangerous sometimes) that they stop treatment completely.

Those who have used antidepressants once are likely to undergo a second major depression again, after using the drug.

There are more options beyond antidepressants for help for depression. The most important option to note is counseling. Therapy helps depressed people in over 80% of the time. People are less likely to experience another significant episode of depression following therapy. Therapy seeks to understand the cause of depression and treat that, instead of just treating the symptoms. Many people feel quite alive after receiving therapy treatment for depression.

It's important to seek help for depression. Before choosing your method of treatment, consider to pros and cons of each. Research each option thoroughly before committing. Remember that you want to treat your depression and not just delay it or ignore it. <bio>For more information on treating depression visit: http://www.depressionremoval.com </bio>
