Everyone who loves their sport knows that every time you play, you have to be in it for 100%. In bowling, we make sure that our technique is fine-tuned and that we always choose the best equipment we can. We have a ball for the first shot of the frame, a spare ball, and maybe even a hook ball. Whether we own the latest $250.00 state-of-the-art shoes or rent a reliable old pair form the bowling alley, we know that bowling shoes give us an edge as well. Unfortunately=85or fortunately, as the case may be, there is one thing at the bowling alley that you don't have complete control over; and that is the lane itself.

Lanes are like snowflakes=85

Just like snowflakes, you'll never find two lanes that are exactly alike. We spend most of our game figuring out and overcoming those differences, whether we realize it or not. But what makes the lanes different?

Where do you bowl? Older lanes, like older homes, have "character." They'll develop wear marks and divots, and if not refinished on a regular basis, will definitely cause your ball to make some unexpected moves. If the lane is damaged, it can interfere with the trajectory of your ball in a major way.

Many bowling alleys are choosing to simply cover their old, hardwood floors with a synthetic material that looks like wood instead of replacing them completely. The softer surface over worn wooden boards can impact on your ball's performance.

The brand new bowling alleys have fully synthetic surfaces on their lanes. While they look the same as wood, they are smoother and slipperier. If you're used to bowling on an old hardwood lane, it might take some practice to get used to the new surface.

Oil helps the ball go `round=85

Bowling alleys use thin coats of oil to help preserve the playing surface of the lanes. The oil is applied in one of many patterns, each pattern affecting the ball in a different manner.

Sometimes the bowling alley attendant might be a little too heavy on the oil, causing the balls to slip and slide instead of grabbing hold and rolling. Too little oil, whether by overuse of the lane between oilings or too little application of oil, can cause your ball to grab hold too early and use up all its power before it reaches the back end.

Because of the imperfections in the oil-application process, even lanes within the same bowling alley will be different. The same lane will be different in the evening than when it was freshly oiled in the morning, too.

So, my "lucky" lane is not all in my head?

Chances are, your "lucky" lane is special to you because of the way its imperfections compliment your own unique bowling style. There are many reasons why no two lanes bowl the same way. Get friendly with the workers at your bowling alley, and they will be able to tell you the best lanes to bowl. They can also tell you about how the oil is applied and the best techniques to use on that particular oil pattern. Lanes that are played on more often are likely to have less, or dried out oil and should be avoided.

Of course=85the easiest way to figure out what your bowling conditions are is to take advantage of the practice round before the scoring starts! With a little know how, you can make any lane your "lucky" lane. <bio>ImproveBowling offers a bowling guide ebook that is great for bowlers interested in improving their bowling game, especially for beginner and recreational bowlers.
Of all the driving mistakes committed on our roads, incorrect signaling and changing lanes incorrectly are one of the most common. If you ask drivers what they most dislike about other drivers, nine times out of ten you would hear the response "drivers not changing lanes properly". Making mistakes when changing lanes and signaling can often result in serious or even fatal injury. For people serious about learning defensive driving, lane change techniques are a vital skill to learn.

SIGNALING - GET INTO GOOD HABITS

It is not always a legal requirement to signal when driving. In some states, you are only required to signal if your change in movement is likely to affect drivers around you. For example, when driving down a deserted freeway at 4.00 am with no other drivers for miles, it may not be necessary for you to signal a turn. Having said that, it is wise to "always" signal turns and lane changes. From a defensive driving standpoint, if you signal on every occasion, no matter what the circumstances, you create a habit which kicks in on autopilot, helping to keep you safe and accident-free.

The important point about signaling is to ensure you are sending clear information. Take care to signal at just the right moment. Signaling too soon or too late causes other drivers confusion about your intentions. For example, oncoming drivers can interpret your signal to mean you want to turn later or sooner than you really intend.

Some drivers deliberately do not use turn signals, believing that by forecasting a lane change other drivers will counter their move by closing their "gap" in the lane. Although this does happen, fortunately it only occurs in the minority of cases. Most drivers WILL make a space for you if they know you want to switch lanes.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING LANE CHANGE TECHNIQUES

Learn and developing these defensive driving skills for correctly changing lanes will go a long way towards ensuring you remain safe and accident-free on the roads.

Scan the road ahead and plan in advance. Before changing lanes, scanning the road ahead and checking what other drivers are doing is vitally important. Things to watch out for include pedestrians about to step on to the road, other vehicles reducing speed, and drivers about to merge across your lane. Keeping an eye on the brake lights of vehicles in front of you is also a good indicator of trouble ahead. Cars beginning to slow down will usually hit their brakes giving a vital warning to alert drivers behind.

Monitor the rear vision mirror. The rearview mirror gives a much wider view than the one provided by your side mirrors. The rearview mirror should be checked with a quick glance, simultaneously keeping your main focus on the road ahead. Things to watch out for when glancing in your rearview mirror include traffic coming up faster than you are driving. Also keep your eyes peeled for vehicles signaling to change lanes behind you who might be increasing speed to pass your vehicle.

Always signal your intentions. Communicating with other drivers is the most important part of defensive driving. Signaling is done to communicate to other drivers what you are about to do. By signaling to other drivers, you give them the chance to slow down and allow your lane change to be made safely. For example, drivers in front of you who is planning a maneuver may stay put if they see your signal. It always wise to remember that people often make unexpected moves. Don't take anything for granted and get into the habit of anticipating the worst!

Don't forget your blind spot. Turn your head and take a quick glance over your shoulder to ensure there is no other driver in the lane beside you. If you do see a vehicle there, stay in your own lane until the vehicle has gone past.

Recheck ahead=85.(again) before changing lanes. Immediately before turning the steering wheel to navigate your lane change, check once again to make no driver is slowing down or straying into your path. Move gradually into your lane change with only a slight adjustment of the steering wheel. If it is not possible to change lanes when you check the blind spot, cancel the maneuver and prepare to begin all over again.

Don't change lanes at intersections. Make sure you plan your lane changes either before and after intersections where side roads, streets or crossroads meet the road you are using.

When it comes to defensive driving, lane change techniques and signaling correctly are important skills to learn and implement into your daily driving. Make sure these are skills YOU learn and become familiar with, your life may depend on it! <bio>Jean Littman is co-owner of http://www.defensivedriversense.com which provides quality resources on defensive driving lane change techniques, advanced driving and traffic safety programs. </bio>

You'd be right to be concerned about security with your wireless garage door opener and remote. An intruder can gain access to your garage contents, or even your home if you don't follow some simple security steps.

Different radio frequencies are used for communication between the remote and the opener. Tiny switches known as dip switches are used to adjust the frequency used between the two. It is a wise idea to reconfigure the dip switch settings to make sure your garage more secure.

A dip switch is a small block of plastic about the size of a dice cut in half. They are usually colored blue or red with 8 to 10 tiny white switch levers positioned up or down. Only when the up / down switch patterns match on both devices will your garage door opener remote control be able to communicate with the opener unit. By adjusting the switch pattern, you are changing the radio frequency used to communicate between the two.

You should be able to easily locate the dip switch on the opener and on the remote control clicker. But to get access to the dip switch on the remote you might need to open it up if the dip switch isn't found in the battery compartment. Remove the screws holding the remote together, or carefully pry it apart if there are no screws. Once you have access to the dip switch on the remote, scramble the switch positions, and then match the positions on the openers dip switch block. It does not matter what the pattern looks like, so long as its a random pattern that would be difficult for someone to guess.

If you have trouble getting the remote to work after doing this, verify that the dip switch patterns are the same on both units. Then check the remote battery is in good condition, and as usual, make sure the opener has power, and operates normally using the control panel inside your garage. You might have to read the manual if all else fails.

If you are thinking of getting a new garage door opener or have already gotten one, then you will want to change settings, just to make sure everyone is honest. Don't forget, your installer or anyone working with him knows your frequency switch settings unless you change them. So go ahead and mix up the switch pattern settings and test that it works.

Even if you are a garage door opener installation do-it-yourself type, you'll want to make the same changes. Don't just stay with the factory default settings. If you did, then anyone could just drive down your street with a compatible remote until he finds a door that opens and gives access to your home. Make sure that's not you.

This advise also applies to anyone buying or renting a new home too. Just like you might change the lock to guarantee there are no spare keys floating around that could compromise your home security. You have no way of knowing how many previous residence there might have been. And you wouldn't want someone to just walk right into your garage or home. <bio>Scott Hares writes for http://steel-garage-door.com A free informational resource for anyone considering a new roll up overhead garage door. </bio>

It you have been driving for any length of time, you most certainly have come across one or more occasions where you were caught speeding. It is always an unpleasant experience to be pulled over by a police officer and to be handed a speeding ticket.

However, there are ways you could be savvier and avoid getting caught speeding:

* On a road with more than two lanes, drive in the middle lane. When you drive in the middle lane, nestled in the middle a bunch of speeding cars, you are less likely to be picked up by the radar detector and by the police officers. Instead, vehicles in front of or on the side of this speeding pack will more likely be caught for speeding. Driving in the middle lane also allows you to spot police officers easier than driving in the outside lanes

* Avoid changing lanes frequently as it tends to draw attention from the police who are on the lookout for vehicles weaving in and out of the lanes. It is best to stay in one lane and drive at around the same speed as those cars around you. It will make you less noticeable to the police and less likely to be picked up by the radar detectors.

* Drive up behind or beside another motorist who is driving over the speed limit and then take note of his speed, After having done so, slow down and pull back a bit so that your speed is slightly slower than his. So in case the car in front suddenly brakes to avoid a speed trap, you will have enough time to slow down before the cops can record your speed, while the car in front will be more likely to be fined a speeding ticket.

However, if you still get pulled over despite the above precautions, you could still possibly wiggle your way out of a speeding ticket with just a warning from the police officer:

* Having a good attitude helps. Addressing the officer respectfully, referring to him or her as andquot;Officerandquot; and paying close attention to what the officer is saying will help. Furthermore, if this is your first infraction and you did not go too much over the speed limit, the police officer may be inclined to just give you a warning.

* Having a bad attitude and cursing at the police officer will only result in a hefty fine. If the officer sees that you are not taking the situation seriously, the officer is more likely to go ahead with the citation in order to teach you a lesson.

* Do not admit to the police officer that you did actually break the speed limit. Doing so would limit your option in court and leave you no room to plead not guilty in court. If you take full responsibility while the officer is writing up the speeding ticket, the officer will testify to that in court. You would have lost the case on the spot, and you would have to pay the full penalty.

If you still get a speeding ticket though, it might then be a good idea to consult with attorneys who specialize in traffic violations, or with retired police officers who provide speeding ticket consultations, as their expertise may help you take advantage of lesser known loopholes. <bio>For more tips on how to beat a Speeding Ticket, visit Susan's site at http://www.beating-a-speeding-ticket.info.
It's gained a reputation of being a game for the those without class and manners, but the truth is bowling is a an ancient sport that carries with it quite a few rules about proper behavior. These rules are taken very seriously by those who frequent the alleys, so it's a very good idea for beginners to learn a bit about the sport and its expected bowling lane etiquette.

Bowling itself dates back thousands of years into the history of man. It is believed that bowling pre-dates written history. As the years marched forward, so did the game and along with it the rules of the road. From ancient man and the courts of English kings to local alleys in cities all over the world, bowling alley etiquette has evolved into what players of today expect.

Learning how to behave on the lanes is as much an important part of the game as figuring out how to score correctly. There are some major dos and don'ts when it comes to bowling lane etiquette. They include:

Do's * Get the proper gear. It is considered a major breach of bowling lane etiquette to wear street shoes on the lanes. Make sure to have on the proper shoes. Get rentals if you don't have your own. Street shoes can damage the lanes and disrupt the oil pattern on them (not to mention the fact many are not designed to handle the slick surface).

* Observe right of way. This is perhaps the number one rule of bowling lane etiquette. The general rule of play is to allow the bowler to the right of your lane to go first if you both arrive at the same time. This helps ensure that concentration isn't interrupted by two people trying to bowl simultaneously.

* Use common courtesy. Bowling is a game that many people take very seriously. Keep common courtesy and politeness in the front of your mind.

Don'ts * Interrupt bowlers. It is considered a serious breach of bowling lane etiquette to talk to bowlers when they are trying to make a shot. Let the person who has the lane concentrate.

* Heckle. While it might be fun to pick on a friend who has bowled a bad frame, it is considered very rude to do so, especially in league play. Remember common courtesy and this bowling lane rule will make perfect sense.

* Cheat. This is a serious breach of bowling lane etiquette and something that just shouldn't be done. Keep the game clean and fun and let the pins and the score fall where they may. While it is nearly impossible to cheat with computerized scoring, some manual set ups still exist.

* Talk too loud or yell. Rowdy groups on the lanes can cause problems for everyone in the vicinity. Have fun, but try to keep the ruckus to a minimum.

Bowling is an ancient sport that has evolved through the years. From ancient man and stone objects to modern man and computerized scoring, the game might have changed a bit, but the basic rules of the road remain. The game is meant to be fun and it does carry with it a need for good sporting conduct. <bio>Get all the latest in bowling know how from the one and only true source at http://www.bowlingquestions.com

Be sure to check our our bowling lane page. </bio>

Getting 100mpg can seem like a pipe dream to many, but this is no longer one of those mythical numbers. It's already being done, right now, in vehicles you see on the road today.

For some people, getting 100mpg is as simple as getting a Moped. Sure, there's nothing really magical about a 50cc gasoline engine, but the very lightweight Moped can be great if you live in a city with heavy traffic and a lot of bike lanes (usually a Moped can drive in lanes for bicycles). I have a friend who lives in Boston, and he tells me that his little scooter is the best way to get around town since it can drive on the road like a regular car, and then take bike lanes to get through traffic backups quickly.

But for the rest of us who need an actual car to get somewhere, 100mpg is in a car that can drive on the highway is possible. While they aren't rolling of production lines, a person with a little know-how and some ingenuity can achieve the mythical 100mpg by starting with a car you can get from your dealer right now =96 a Toyota Prius.

For those who like to tinker, and if you live in an area with a lot of sunlight, you might consider installing a solar panels on your rooftop so that while your car is parked while you're out and about, the electric battery is being recharged. While this isn't the most efficient way to use solar panels (the roof of your house is a much better place for them), on some trips you may be able to hit 100mpg.

Then there's what many would consider the more sensible conversion =96 taking your current Prius Hybrid and converting it into a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The conversion will run you in the neighborhood of $5,000-$6,000 if you like to do things yourself or you can have a conversion company do it for you for about $10,000-$12,000.

Converting your Prius to a PHEV can help you hit the 100mpg mark when taking your daily commute since you'll be relying mostly on the electric motors to do all the work. And if you're taking short trips, the gasoline engine may not need to fire at all, which means you've used no gasoline for that trip.

And if you're feeling flush with cash, you live in Southern California, and you want to say goodbye to gasoline forever, you can get yourself a Tesla Roadster ($95,000). This vehicle is 100% electric, requires no gasoline, can do 0-60mpg in 4 seconds (about what a Porsche 911 Turbo can do), and has a range of over 200 miles. This vehicle gets the equivalent of 135 miles per gallon and costs only 2 cents/mile to drive (even the most fuel efficient non hybrid cars cost at least 8 cents/mile to drive) <bio>Gary Ruplinger is the owner of http://www.FuelSavingZone.com/ - Be sure to get his free report with 61 gas savers.
The answer to all of America's energy and oil needs might be as simple as a grass, switch grass to be exact. Switch grass is an amazingly easy to produce grass that can be converted to ethanol. Ethanol holds lots of promise as an alternative to gasoline.

When you look at all the benefits of switch grass, it's hard to believe that it isn't being touted more heavily. Switch grass could not only replace some fossil fuels use, it could help alleviate the damage done by years of burning fossil fuels as well.

Switch grass might be thought of as a weed by some, which probably explains its lowly status. But switch grass was elevated to a new, lofty place when President Bush brought it up in his 2006 State of the Union address.

Switch grass has many worthwhile and useful qualities. Chief among them is how easy it is to grow.

Switch grass grows abundantly in the Great Plains and is native to large parts of North America. Picture yourself driving through the Midwest, when you gaze out the window you're looking at lots of switch grass.

cattle, horses, sheep and goats all love to munch of switch grass.

Unlike most plants, switch grass is not picky about soil and conditions. It's incredibly easy to grow even in clay or sand, flood or drought. A gardener's dream plant. Remember, it andquot;grows like a weed.andquot;

Switch grass could be a new bumper crop for American farmers, who are being financially squeezed from a million directions.

Not only that, but switch grass can be used to purify water. It's roots can take pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizer out of water before it reaches the main waterways. this trait alone makes it useful.

Now as if all that weren't enough, the humble switch grass plant can even help in our efforts to clean the air. Switch grass cleans the air because it absorbs carbon dioxide, that nasty green house gas.

Many places are already experimenting with switch grass as a source for energy, either as pellets for burning or converting it to ethanol.

Democratic Senator Joseph Lieberman has already brought up switch grass as a cure for international tensions over competition for fossil fuels. Noting our growing competition for fuel with China before the Counsel on Foreign Relations, Lieberman suggested lots of agricultural products like switch grass, corn and sugar can be used to create new sources of fuel to power our cars and keep our houses warm.

In a world of dependence on fossil fuels and rising gas prices, it is critical to find new sources of alternative energy. In this case, we may have to look no farther than America's andquot;amber waves of grain.andquot; <bio>Dave Larsen has worked for twenty-five plus years in the alternative energy business.
At the time of this writing, there is a game being played. And in my opinion, the game is called, "confronting the US oil crisis". The major players are the car manufacturers, the government, maybe the EPA and have course the people being the unwitting spectators that are readily lured to the show.

And the game pieces are the fuel economy cars also known as hybrid cars.

I will begin by emphasizing the point that I don't know everything there is to know about this so called "impending oil crisis". And I'm not sure if there is anyone who knows everything there is to know about this impending oil crisis too. However, I am fairly certain that the hybrid cars wouldn't be a prospective solution to the problem; not at least for a few more years.

One would notice a massive influx of hybrid cars on the roads today and yet, did nothing to help put a dent in the oil problems; but instead made a quandary with regards to car-pooling. As early as January 2005, hybrids car owners were allowed to use car pool lanes, even when driving alone. Given the fact that thousands of hybrid cars have been sold since 1999, some of the car pool lanes are becoming more congested than the regular traffic lanes they're supposed to lighten.

According to a compiled report for the past eight years made by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the pervasive presence of the supposedly fuel economy cars have saved only a measly total of 5.5 million oil barrels. It's a rather distressing contrast against the approximate 8.5 million barrels a day to power the present usage of the light, private vehicles. But even then, researchers are very optimistic with regards to fuel economy cars. They have concluded that for fuel economy cars to have an impact, they have to at least cover more than 50% of the car population in the United States. And given the growing sales of these fuel economy cars, it's just a matter of time.

On a more personal note, can fuel economy cars help you cut back on gasoline consumption? Yes they could, depending on your driving habits. However, if you consider the initial cost of the hybrids, you may want to reconsider buying one. One of the biggest challenges of the fuel economy cars is that it takes so long to repay that extra expense of purchasing them. Even in the best-case scenario (as with one of the most popular hybrids, the Toyota Prius), five years time is already considered lucky. One could purchase a standard 4-cylinder Toyota for a much lower price and the fuel economy on these models are just outstanding. Again, this will all depend on you're driving habits. Personally, being a city driver, I get excellent mileage with my four cylinder.

So what is your reasoning to purchase a fuel economy car? Is it for the environmental aspects? Whatever it may be, personally I wouldn't purchase a hybrid car for purely economic reasons. <bio>Kerry Ng is a successful Webmaster and publisher of The Hybrid Cars Info Blog.
If you believe that your bank is costing a more money than it really needs to be, then perhaps it is time to change the habit of a lifetime and switch banks. Although many people remain loyal to their banks for life, there is no need to do this. Your bank is a business and they will treat you as such, and so in turn you should look for the best deals possible. Here are some tips on whether you should switch banks or not.

Why switch banks?

Although many people are happy with their banks, this does not mean they are getting the best deal. Obviously, if you are unhappy with your bank then it is time to look elsewhere. However, if you have been with one bank for a while then perhaps it is time to look at the alternatives. If you find that you current bank is still the best, then great. If not, then you could save yourself some money.

Look for the best deal

Before you switch banks, it is crucial that you shop around. Just because you are switching banks doesn't mean you should switch to the first good deal you come across. Look at all the alternatives, including online banks and credit unions, before deciding on which bank has the best deal for you.

Contact you current bank

If you are thinking about moving banks, then before you do so you should contact your current bank and see if they can match the terms you can get from another bank. Don't tell your bank you are thinking of leaving as they might remove certain privileges you have. Instead, try and negotiate a new deal, as it is often easier to get a better deal from your current bank than move to a new bank. However, if your current bank doesn't want to negotiate then you know it is time to switch banks.

Complete application process

Once you have found the right bank for your needs, you need to complete the application process. Once you have filled in any necessary forms and made sure that all the terms make sense, your new bank can begin the process of transferring your payments and money from your old bank. If you have fairly regular accounts then this should only take a week or so to complete.

Advantages of switching banks

Of course, then main advantage of switching banks is that you can get better terms on the financial products that you already have. You may also be able to get new features from a different bank that will help you to save money or make banking easier for you.

Disadvantages of changing banks

Although there are advantages to switching banks, you must remember that it is won't always be so easy. If you have complex accounts or are borrowing money from your old bank, then the procedure might become more complicated. Also, if you switch banks regularly it can seem like you are financially unstable. Although switching banks isn't always the best option, if you are unhappy with your current bank or want to get a better deal then you should look at what other banks have to offer. <bio>Peter Kenny is a writer for The Thrifty Scot.
The rich men with the big bucks and shiny, expensive cars are almost always being chauffeured around. They don't realise that they are missing out on something -- the real joy of owning a car is to drive it. Well, of course, if you don't drive properly, then even a thing as pleasurable as driving can seem as an arduous task. To drive a car smoothly, here are a few tips that will come in handy. (These are based on a right-hand drive vehicle, so you can modify the tips as required if you use a left-hand drive).

First, you should find out about the feeding mechanism that is required for steering. What that means in essence is that you should avoid crossing over your arms. Basically, neither of your hands should be at a level much lower than 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock, if you visualise the steering wheel as a wall clock. This gives you much better control when it comes to the cars handling, and even if you are a driver of mediocre capabilities, you can circumvent tough spots easily using this mechanism.

Lane driving is extremely important and you should always stick to your lane whilst driving. If you are shifting lanes (for a necessary reason hopefully, otherwise avoid it), use the indicator (blinker) at all times -- each and every time. For instance, if you are turning to the left, and you need to move into the left hand side lane first, indicate left, switch to the left lane and after that take the left turn. Following lane driving essentials can save people from accidents.

The gears are meant to run the car, and not the other way around. It is a common tendency to accelerate unnecessarily in order to shift to a higher gear. Often when you shift to a higher gear just for the fun of it, you end up overheating the engine. Also, people tend to race through the gears to get to a higher gear -- it is best not to. You should preferably maintain the car in a low gear and at higher revs; that lets the car come to a halt much quicker.

Have you ever experienced a situation in which while going up an incline you are suddenly faced with a situation where the car which is in front of you has come to a sudden stop and so has the one right behind you -- you'd have to stop too, finding yourself in a pickle. Well, you would come out of this situation looking good if you can follow these simple steps. The first thing to do is to pull up the handbrake so that the car doesn't start rolling back. Then, shift to the first gear and let the clutch out slowly, while accelerating in a normal fashion. At the same time, keep your left hand on the handbrake (for a left-hand drive, your right) and release the handbrake as you accelerate and release the clutch -- this will guarantee your car moves forward, and not even an inch back. Not that difficult a procedure, as you can see.

A smooth drive entails a relaxed shifting of gears -- you should not feel a jerk as you switch from one gear to the next. To achieve this, always let out the clutch slowly while shifting gears. Also, try not to accelerate and break too much.

These were only a few tips on driving which can, hopefully, help you maximize your car's performance. Now you can hit the roads with confidence.<bio>Van Pooling Rental Cars Save Money on Gas</bio>

How many times have you opened your garage door in the morning to find out what was still on? Handled this is been my experience in many many morning's and of course no one will admit to leaving the light on. One quick fix that I've found for this is to replace might be existing garage light switch with a switch that includes a motion detector. The motion detector will turn on any time someone enters the garage or when a car enters the garage. Most of these motion detector light switches can easily be replaced by most homeowners. A couple of things that you need to keep in mind are one that before you change the switch that the power is off. The second thing is you will need to take a look at how many lights are on the circuit most switches are rated a certain number of watts You will want to make sure that you do not exceed the wattage recommendation for the switch. While you're at it you may want to consider replacing your garage lights from an incandescent bulb to a new fluorescent style blown a new fluorescent style bald could save you in the area of 75 percent and lighting costs. If

If several different models of motion detector light switches are available pay close attention to switch since you are purchasing some switches will only work with incandescent bulbs while others will work with both styles. Some switches have a set time that they will stand and others have a built in timer that is adjustable.

Another easy and simple way to save energy costs button's to either install a new programmable thermostat in your house. For another way is to simply turn down your heat during the day will you are gone and remembering again to turn the thermostat down when you go to bed. The myth is that you will not save the energy by doing this because it just uses more energy to keep the house backup to normal temperature this is not true many many studies have been done that prove you can save upwards of twenty percent of your home heating costs simply by turning thermostat down some 10=B0 during the day and 5=B0 at night. The biggest problem is if you have a manual thermostat someone must remember to turn me down when you leave. The problem with a programmable thermostat is that most people do not take the time to actually program the thermostat. <bio>Megan Cherry writes for http://www.pegandrail.com </bio>

The other day I was riding and found myself in a road paving project area. This was a project on a 4-lane road with 1/2 of the two lanes on my side paved... and the other 1/2 getting prepared for paving to continue. The problem is that the 1/2 that was paved was the left lane and this caused a height difference andquot;ridgeandquot; of approximately 1 - 2 inches of asphalt between the two lanes (of course I was in the right andquot;low-sideandquot; lane).

This wouldn't have been a problem if I could have stayed in the lane I was in... but once into the paving area all cars had to merge from the right to the left lane. Speeds on this road were about 40 miles per hour and on a normal motorcycle this would have been scary enough! On a chopper (let alone a wide rear tire) it was one of the scariest things I have had to do. In the moment before the transition I tried to slow down as much as I could in the andquot;bumper to bumperandquot; traffic, gripped the handlebars firmly, and then once there was an opening in the traffic to move over I tried to make the andquot;cutandquot; at as sharp of an angle as was possible.

Let me just say that andquot;I made itandquot; but it was really an unstable situation for a few seconds. It made me remember why Driver Education schools teach you that andquot;if your tire goes off the road... stay off the road and slow way down... and then sharply turn back on when there is a safe margin to do soandquot; and that is in a 4-wheel CAR!

I think that was the closest I have come to andquot;going downandquot; on a bike in over 20 years... so, I am writing this down so I don't forget. When you have to cross over and onto a ridge that is running parallel to your path of travel:

Slow down as much as possible (I didn't do this enough). Get a large safety margin between other traffic (Wait for a large opening). Get a firm grip on the handlebars. Try to cross-over the ridge at a strong angle (don't try to ease up on the ridge). I didn't do any of these things very well and it almost ended in a crash. For me, my biggest mistake was #1... so next time I am faced with this I will be sure to slow down much more and get a better angle on the ridge.

Ride safe!
Are you tired of traffic jams each and every day you go to work? Have you seen, when you were driving in rush-our, that so many cars are empty? Maybe you are wondering how stupid thing is that.

When you're stuck in a traffic jam, it is really hard to think clearly. You feel frustration, and start to rage. Traffic jam is undoubtedly annoying, but not necessary. Traffic is people, you don't only sit in the traffic jam, you are the traffic jam. You can blame yourself as well. Do you sit in your car alone? If your answer is yes, you should consider few things.

Traffic congestion has been a major problem nowadays, imposing significant costs on the world economy. It occurs when there are enough cars on the road that you always have to check everywhere before doing anything. You have to concentrate, so you drive a little slower. When everybody starts to do that, then you get slower traffic, and people start to wonder how to beat the traffic. Some of them change lanes to try to catch the fastest lane. That's where the problem starts. The more lane changing they make, the more crowded the road will seem to be, and the worse the traffic jam will become.

By forming carpools, passengers can share a vehicle and travel together, thereby saving on different costs. Carpooling makes lot of sense, it saves oil, saves money and saves the environment. This alternative transportation means less pollution. And the most obviously, it reduces traffic congestion.

Each individual driver should realize their own responsibility for crowded roads. Cars do a lot of harm to us. Just share a ride to work with a colleague or neighbor, or with somebody who would like to travel to the same destination, and take advantage of the carpool lanes if you have in your country.

The phenomenon of single-occupant vehicle as a primary form of transportation in our days is resulting in more traffic, more congestion, longer travel times and more stress. If you have the chance to pick up somebody on your way, but you don't know anybody who with you can travel together, just try carpool services. People are beginning to realize the benefits of carpooling. These sites bring them together.

Share a ride as many times as you can. If you do that, you'll see that you'll be more relaxed, because you can share driving responsibilities. When you don't have to drive, you are free to read, take your laptop, sleep, or do absolutely nothing but enjoy the ride. It is even good for your health. Studies show that solo drivers are more likely to have higher blood pressure and heart rates, and even short-term memory loss as a result of the stress.

By working together, we could have better travel conditions and improve the quality of life. <bio>Fruzsina Csery is a freelance copywriter, she occasionally writes for http://rideforcents.org </bio>

Thousands more people every month are making the decision to start carpooling with fellow employees to work, especially when they commute to work. Typically people who commute thirty minutes or longer each way should try to make sure that they carpool to work. The environment is becoming more fragile each and everyday and without people doing the right thing, which is protecting it then soon there will terrible consequences. If you value the world and everyone you care about then you should care about the air we all breathe in on a daily basis. If you can help the environment become a safer place by carpooling to work then don't you think you could make the adjustment to driving with a co-worker to work?

There are now lots of carpool parking lots where you can take your vehicle to and park it for the day while at work and then after work you get dropped off at it and continue home. If enough people started doing this then soon the environment would start becoming a more pleasant place to live. It takes more then a handful of people from different regions to make a difference and everyone needs to unite as one on this situation and try doing something about it.

The government has now begun opening up lanes of most major highways for commuters travelling with more then one passenger in the vehicle. This means if you carpool to work you can use the commuter lane which is basically an express lane that will help you beat rush hour traffic. The time it takes to stop at a carpool parking lot you'll now start saving by being able to drive in a much less congested lane of the highway. A lot of people only began carpooling because they would then be able to avoid rush hour traffic, and if this is what it takes for people to start helping the environment then so be it. As long as the governments continue adding carpooler lanes onto major highways I feel more and more people will start adapting to carpooling.

Another reason it seems carpooling is becoming more popular is due to the increase in gas prices that everyone is dealing with. A lot of people can't afford the gas prices that are currently present in most countries and with this a lot of people are forced to carpool. Now although high gas prices aren't meant to help the environment through more people carpooling, it would as though indirectly it's been done.

There are lots of reasons why you should be carpooling to work with fellow co-workers and many of them involve you saving time and money so there is really no reason why more people don't start carpooling. If you save money and time then there isn't much else that can be offered to entice you to saving the environment, so if this doesn't do it what will be needed? I hope people can begin to start coming to their senses and start working towards cleaning the environment up.<bio>Chicago Car Shipping Affordable Car Moving</bio>

There are many different kinds of companies that sell home security equipment. The equipment can range from different home security companies. These companies offer important burglar protection.

Most companies have some similarities with what they offer. Read these descriptions about the basic components.

The keypad has two different roles. One is that it starts the security commands. The second one is that it monitors the status of the system. There is an alphanumeric keypad with an LED display. This is usually put near the front door so that you can reach it easily when you come in and out of the house. There is a panic switch that can also be used if there is an emergency and a bypass function. This can be used to monitor parts of the house while leave the others where people are unmonitored.

A sensor is used to protect around the house and large open areas within the house. These are used as magnetic door switches, window vibration detectors, and also window acoustical detectors. These can be put on doors or windows so that people can not break in a window or door without sounding the alarm. The space sensors inside the home help to detect someone who has broken inside the home.

A door switch is made of a magnet and switch. This switch is placed on a door and also on a wooden frame and then when the door opens the magnet moves form the switch. This opens the switch and the alarm goes off.

A window acoustic and vibration detector work by noting if glass breaks. This will make the alarm go off and so it is hard to enter if one breaks glass or windows since the alarm will sound.

A motion detector protects you by noting the change in infrared energy in someone comes in a room when the alarm is set. This will go off if an intrude enters. You can also get some in different models including standard, safe for pets, and for the backyard, which are harsher.

A security panel is the crux of the system. This watches of the sensors and powers the whole operation. This also connects to the telephone wires and has all of the options for the system programmed.

A camera is important because this show pictures of anyone trying to enter on a monitor.

It is good for arresting people and iding them properly later one.

A monitor is used to display video info that taken in by cameras. This info is then transmitted through cables to the monitor.

The switchers are used to process images taken by more than one camera. This allows someone to switch different cameras to get a view of the total area. <bio>Vince Paxton usually publishes summaries on areas dealing with woodworking tools and woodworking machinery.
Many people sing the praises of carpooling, for many different reasons. Most people agree carpooling is a good thing because it reduces the amount of gasoline and oil consumed, thereby conserving the Earth's limited resources. By reducing the amount of fossil fuels burned, carpooling also reduces the amount of vehicle exhaust in the air, decreasing the amount of carcinogens we breathe and the rate at which we destroy our ozone layer, reducing greenhouse gases.

All of these things are positives. However, most people tend to respond to how things affect their pocketbook. Most people will not carpool because it is good for the environment; they carpool because it is good for them, saving money.

The situation isn't hopeless. We need to work with human nature and not against it. Let's take a look at the "slugging" phenomenon that takes place in Washington, D.C. The reason "slugging" is such an interesting phenomenon is that no one is actually doing it out of altruistic tendencies or to save the environment.

Here is what happens: You have two groups of people, one driving into the city to work and the other leaving their cars behind. The people without cars stand in lines according to where they want to travel, and the people with cars stop by and ask for passengers traveling near where they are headed. Each car needs to have at least three people in it, and this is because the person with the car is picking up people to be permitted to drive in the HOV lane.

The HOV lane is also called the carpooling lane, and a car full of passengers may use this lane to travel. Since there are fewer people with three or more passengers in the car, this lane moves faster while other lanes become jammed each morning with traffic. That makes carpooling the quickest way to get to work in the morning =96 quicker, even, than the bus.

If everyone caught on to the wonders of carpooling and legal use of the HOV lane, it would actually slow the lane down as more cars used the lane to travel, but the result would be the other lanes speeding up because the number of cars using them would be reduced. In addition, the pollution in the city would be significantly reduced.

Of course, the point of the matter isn't that people are carpooling to do something good for the world. Without incentives such as the HOV lane and faster travel, people would rather not have other people in their cars. This system works to have people go against their natures and carpool, because the system works with those natures by giving people a reward and something everyone wants badly =96 a quick ride to work and escape from the traffic jam. <bio>Find the best deal on the auto insurance coverage you need.
There is a wide range of companies to choose from that sell home security equipment. The exact equipment may differ for each company, but the components they supply are basically the same. They are:

The keypad. It has two functions. Firstly, it initiates security commands, and secondly, it monitors the status of the security system. There are two parts to the keypad. The alphanumeric board and the LED display. Usually the keypad is installed near the front door so that the owner can easily arm or disarm the system as he enters and leaves the house. The majority of keypads will have a panic switch so that the alarm can be activated in case of emergency. Most of them will also have a bypass function. This allows the homeowner to bypass the system when necessary.

The sensors. These protect the perimeter and the open spaces in the home. The sensors that are commonly used are magnetic door switches, window movement detectors and window acoustical detectors. They will trigger the alarm if there is any unauthorized movement or sound. You can also install space protection sensors inside the rooms and hallways to detect movement inside the home when there shouldn't be.

The door switches. There are two components to the door switches. The switch and the magnet. The switch is sensitive to the magnetic field and is mounted on a fixed frame. The magnet is mounted on the door near the switch. If the door is opened and the alarm is on, the magnet moves away from the switch, opening the switch and thus activating the alarm.

The window detectors. These detectors are on the windows to sense any movement, or the sound of breaking glass. Either of these will activate the alarm, so that a home cannot be entered by breaking into a window.

Motion detectors. These are designed to detect any changes in infrared energy, so that if an intruder enters the space, they will set off the alarm. They can be standard or pet friendly, or they can be for outdoors, which is considered harsh environment.

The security panels. This is the brain of the home security system. Power is supplied to the system, the sensors are monitored, the programs are operated and the telephone lines connected via these panels. The cameras. Video cameras that capture and transmit images to the monitors that may be important in picturing intruders.

The monitors. These display the images captured by the video cameras. The cameras are connected to the monitors via coaxial cable.

The switchers. Switchers are used to process the images captured by the cameras. In large systems with a number of cameras, the operator can switch cameras to monitor different areas of the property. <bio>Greg Hansward continually pens news stories on themes related to woodworking tools and woodworking machinery. Fitting your dining room with a light color fan that matches well with the dining table and glasses will enhance the look and feel of your room. Reading your favorite novel, watching TV or any other favorite activity under a ceiling fan will keep you cooler. Ceiling fans come in various shapes, sizes and colors. You can buy a ceiling fan on the Internet, at a lighting store, or in some major department stores. Here are a few points that will assist you in taking care of your ceiling fan to extend its life.

Decide whether you or any professional will install the fan. If you want a professional to do the job, remember that you have to pay his charges. Though all the fans come with the detailed operational manual on how to fit the fan, it is advisable to call an expert if you do not know how to wire. It is possible to install the fan within a day.

Modern day fans are easy to operate. Some of them will have a small chain that you can grasp easily to switch on the fan and control the speed. Another chain will be provided to control the light switch. However many models come with a switch fitted on the wall. You can easily change between the speeds of low, medium and high by either pulling the chain or clicking the switch.

Clean the blades of the ceiling fan every week. This ensures the best possible flow of air, besides consuming less electricity. The top portion above the blade is the dirtiest one. You can easily clean it with vacuum cleaner with a hose attached to it. This ensures the cleaner to reach the high spots. Alternatively, you can wipe the portion with a non-abrasive cleaning spray or polish. This will ensure you enjoy the cool breeze provided by your ceiling fan for many years. <bio>For other great information about ceiling fans please check out http://www.ceilingfansfacts.info and http://www.ceilingfanslinks.info.
