Food allergies come in many forms but the one that seems to manifest earliest is a milk allergy. This is because it is usually associated with infants and babies. When many people hear the term milk allergy they associate it with lactose intolerance. The confusion is understandable but the allergen or trigger for each of these problems is very different.

Allergies can start throughout your life. I didn't start having allergies to pollen until I was in my thirties. Others may have allergies start right out of the gate as infants. Though some pediatricians tell you that allergies to things like milk can be outgrown the jury is still out on how true that is. Some suspect that allergies that are "outgrown" may actually just change in the sense that the symptoms may be less intense or different all together. Though a milk allergy is associated with childhood and infancy plenty of adults suffer as well.

Milk Allergy versus Lactose Intolerance

A true milk allergy is triggered by the protein in cow's milk or any other type of dairy. A lactose intolerance is a reaction to the milk sugar lactose. Someone who is lactose intolerant has a problem with the level of an enzyme called lactase which is required to "digest" the milk sugar lactose. This deficiency or absence happens usually after 5 years of age so someone who was fine drinking milk may suddenly start having this intolerance.

An allergy involves the response of the body's immune system. The immune system is involved in causing the symptoms of a milk allergy while the symptoms of a lactose intolerance are usually gastrointestinal in nature.

Milk Allergy and Babies

As a mother of two I know what a terrifying and confusing time it is when your baby is sick. I was advised before giving birth that breastfeeding would help not only avoid a milk allergy but also with keeping the baby healthier in general. My experience with my firstborn led me to believe that the doctors and nurses were right. My daughter did not develop any milk allergy type symptoms and rarely got sick.

Unlike my daughter though my son who I also breast fed for his first year did develop symptoms like ear infections, asthma and eczema that indicate allergies. He also developed diarrhea at a certain point that led to an investigation into possible celiac disease. So bottom line you just don't know. Every baby is different and the amount of time they are breast fed can delay the onset of these symptoms like it did for my son.

Since milk allergies usually occur in infancy you may be wondering what are some of the symptoms of milk allergy in newborns. Here are some symptoms that can indicate a milk allergy:

*Chronic Runny Nose *Coughing *Ear Infections *Colic *Rash *Eczema *Diarrhea *Recurring Colds

The best thing to do when you suspect this type of allergy is to consult with your doctor. Whether you are young, old or have a baby that seems to be reacting badly to milk. Only a doctor will be able to confirm your suspicions.

Whether you have a milk allergy or are lactose intolerant you will have to manage your intake of dairy products for the rest of your life. Some peoples reactions may be stronger than others so their approach might be different. Since there currently is no cure for this allergy you will most likely be advised to eliminate dairy products from your diet. Keep in mind that you will have to learn to identify milk proteins on ingredient lists. Your allergist can provide you with a list. With all this knowledge you will be able to live more comfortably with a milk allergy. <bio>Marilyn Franklin writes for http://AllergyFiles.com where you can find more information on dairy allergies. </bio>

People with untreated Celiac's disease, often suffer from lactose intolerance or a milk allergy as well. Unfortunately because the symptoms of the two conditions are fairly similar, and the symptoms of lactose intolerance are more obvious, appearing within a couple of hours of eating dairy products, sometimes only the lactose intolerance is diagnosed. Actually most celiacs don't actually have a milk allergy, the condition is temporarily caused by Celiac's disease and is a symptom of that condition.

How does Celiac's disease cause lactose intolerance?

In a healthy digestive system, milk sugar, or lactose is usually broken down into simple sugars that are easily absorbed by an enzyme called lactase. Lactase is produced on the tips of the villi, tube-like growths on the wall of the intestine that help with the absorption of nutrients. In the digestive system of a celiac, gluten fighting antibodies attack the gut, damaging the villi and preventing the production of lactase to break down lactose.

If milk sugars aren't broken down by lactase, they can't be absorbed and they move into the colon where they are digested by normal intestinal bacteria. Water rushes into the colon in an attempt to dilute the lactose. This causes the symptoms of lactose intolerance such as excessive gas, bloating, stomach pains and watery acid diarrhea.

Treating a Celiac related milk allergy

Eliminating foods that contain gluten from your diet is the best way to treat all symptoms of Celiac's disease, including lactose intolerance. If you stop eating gluten, the villi in your gut will gradually repair themselves and become capable of producing the enzyme lactase again. This process is not instant and it will take at least six months before you stop being lactose intolerance. Depending on the progression of your Celiac's disease it may take up to two years.

To avoid the symptoms of lactose intolerance you might want to avoid eating dairy food for the first six month of your gluten-free diet, and gradually reintroduce dairy foods after this time. This will give your gut the chance to heal more quickly and effectively, but it can be hard to avoid dairy products when you are already struggling to stop eating foods that contain gluten.

Ask your doctor to test for Celiac's disease

When undiagnosed celiacs are diagnosed as lactose intolerant, they are encouraged to reduce the amount of milk products and dairy in their diet, and to change the way they eat dairy so that it is absorbed more easily. This change in diet may significantly improve their symptoms, but will not remove them altogether, and the gut will continue to be damaged by gluten fighting antibodies attacking the tissue.

Even though these sufferers will continue to experience symptoms, some will be so relieved to have a slight improvement that they won't ask their doctor to do further tests. Lactose intolerance can be an indicator of various other diseases such as Cryptosporidium infection as well as Celiac's disease so if you are diagnosed as lactose intolerant you should always ask your doctor to investigate further. A simple blood test can indicate whether or not you are suffering from Celiac's disease rather than a simple milk allergy.<bio>Sean Ambrose runs http://www.gluten-answers.com the web's most thorough source on providing free information on learning to manage a Gluten free diet successfully.</bio>

Many people who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS syndrome) have problems digesting milk sugar, better known as lactose. Lactose intolerance occurs when there is insufficient lactase in the small intestine.

Lactase is responsible for breaking down lactose so it can be properly absorbed into the bloodstream. When not enough lactase exists, the undigested lactose can ferment in the large intestine, which can lead to the unpleasant symptoms of:

• nausea • bloating • cramps • flatulence • diarrhea

These symptoms usually present themselves between 30 minutes -- 2 hours following ingestion of lactose. Symptoms will vary depending on how intolerant one's system is to lactose.

As you can see, the above symptoms closely mirror those related to IBS. Therefore, discovering whether or not lactose intolerance is a contributing factor to the symptoms an IBS sufferer experiences, can be difficult to determine without the proper diagnosis.

One of the ways an IBS sufferer can self-determine if they have lactose intolerance is to begin a lactose elimination diet. In other words, ingest a lactose product and find out if you have a reaction within 30 minutes - 2 hours after eating it. If you do, eliminate this item from your diet and try ingesting something else that contains less lactose. Continue eliminating until you no longer have symptoms.

Unfortunately, the problem with an elimination diet is many people are not aware that lactose isn't only in dairy products. It also exists in small amounts in bake goods, certain breads, cookies, dry cereal, breakfast drinks and instant soups. In addition, lactose is often used for filler or to increase the bulk of capsules and tablets.

The following are a list of lactose ingredient names to look for on food packages: lactose, whey, buttermilk, nonfat milk solids, malted milk, margarine, sour cream, sweet. Furthermore, make sure you ask the pharmacist if any of the medication you are taking contains lactose.

If you have been diagnosed with IBS, it's a good idea to take a hydrogen breath test to determine whether or not you have lactose malabsoprtion. This is the best way for you to determine what course of action you should take. After all, if you don't suffer from lactose intolerance, eating a lactose-free diet isn't going to help the symptoms you are experiencing. Plus, foods that contain lactose are usually high in calcium and are an important part of a healthy diet.

Additionally, if the lactose breath test is negative, your doctor may want to run other tests to rule out other dietary factors you may be allergic too.

If a hydrogen breath tests proves that you are lactose intolerant, the best treatment is to completely eliminate all lactose products from your diet. Due to the fact that this means eliminating many dairy products from your diet, you will need to find other ways to provide your body with the calcium it needs to remain strong and healthy.

The following are a list of food sources that are high in calcium and contain no lactose:

• Fortified soymilk • Canned salmon • Canned tuna • Sardines with edible bones • Raw broccoli • Lettuce greens • Orange • Pinto beans

There are other foods high in calcium without lactose such as spinach, swiss chard and rhubarb, but they also contain oxalates which block the absorption of calcium so they are counter productive.

Recent research finds that yogurt with active cultures are a good sources of calcium event though it contains lactose. The reason why yogurt appears not to cause problems is because the bacterial culture produces some of the lactase enzyme that is necessary for proper digestion.

Calcium supplements may also be necessary in order to meet the daily requirements. Talk to your doctor about treatment for IBS Syndrome. <bio>Discover other ways to successfully eliminate http://natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/blog symptoms please visit http://natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/ and sign up for a free newsletter. </bio>

More and more people are recognizing that they or a family member is intolerant of lactose. Scientists have made great inroads in the past decade regarding this phenomenon, but have yet to come up with a simple cure.

It is often hard on a person to be lactose intolerant. If you suffer, you know that such great foods as yogurt, cheese, and ice cream are sold and consumed everywhere you go. Cheese is a cooking ingredient that is frequently used in so many dishes that it is hard to eliminate.

Lactose is a sugar found in milk and dairy products that is broken down in the lower intestines. The organ that helps the body digest the substance usually produces its own lactose, and in a way cancels out the ingested lactose. You may find that a medication taken before consuming dairy products will help your digestive capabilities. Other people will need to eat substitutes.

Some doctors recommend taking a calcium pill so you can receive nutrients needed for your teeth and bones that you may not get enough of when you avoid dairy products. You may also need to take a digestive aid pill after eating to help coat your stomach to reduce side effects.

If you are lactose intolerant you likely find that it's hard for you to digest dairy products. The first reaction is often your tummy. But you may feel sick, dizzy, and generally unwell after consuming these products. You may also develop systemic problems in your lower intestines.

This is because your body cannot process dairy matter and it can get lodged in your waste track and cause pain. In some people, the pains may be so severe that they are unable to function normally. Thus it is important that you lean how to balance your need for dairy and your allergic reactions.

Many people are forced to find their own path through the dairy eating world. Whatever works best for you is what you should do. Of course, milk has calcium, which our bodies need. If you are unable to consume milk or dairy products as part of your diet, then you will be required to take supplements. Some infants who are found to be lactose intolerant are fed special soy formulas to help the child get enough nutrients.

You should not hesitate to contact your doctor about supplements. He or she may even suggest that you drink soya milk. Soya milk, or soymilk, is produced by processing soybeans and contains no lactose. Many brands of soymilk are calcium fortified so that you can get the same amount of calcium as you would with a glass of milk. Recent enhancements in flavor, and texture of soymilk has sparked a growing industry, and most stores now contain at least one brand. Lactose intolerant people are not the only purchasers, as many other folks recognize the health benefits of soy, and the harm of consuming too much dairy. So experiment, test your reactions, and you should be able to live comfortably with your allergy. <bio>John Brown contributes to several web sites, including http://rawboned.com and http://club-healthy.com </bio>

Taken from the experience of someone who has spent countless hours searching in the past for sugar-free chocolates for the diabetic chocoholic(s) in their life. I remember hours of pouring over the numerous catalogs only to find only one or two chocolate items.

Then not too many years ago the age of inter-net shopping started. There was maybe a lot less paper but the problem was still remained. Simply because not many people at that time were interested in making sugar-free chocolate. But as more people are either finding out that they are diabetic or that they simply want to cut down on their carbohydrates, sugar-free chocolates has taken off.

So now the remaining questions are how much you want to spend, what kind of chocolate and from who do you want to order from.

One such place on line is Ultimate Chocolate Shoppe. There they have sugar-free dark chocolates, milk chocolates, white chocolates and specialty chocolates. Ultimate Chocolate Shoppe has been approved Feingold Program And meet the F.D.A. sugar-free requirement.

There are many companies on the inter-net that now cater to those who need to be or want to be sugar-free. However to claim that one is sugar-free must not raise blood glucose. And the way to do that is to use sweeteners like Maltitol. Their products are made from 70% all natural cocoa, they are sugar-free, low on trans fat therefore low on net carbohydrates, they are also gluten free, lactose free and peanut free. And to make it even more appealing their products are zero in cholesterol and high on antioxidants. So even those who are on a vegetarian diet will love these chocolates.

There are other place on line that have as a high standards as Ultimate Chocolate Shoppe in their sugar-free chocolates. For instance the developers at YC Chocolate have been developing a low carbohydrate, sugar-free dark chocolate bar with no artificial colorings, or flavorings, preservatives or sweeteners. YC Chocolate's sugar-free chocolate has passed the natural foods criteria that they have set for what would be considered to be Natural and Clean. They have passed the F.D.A.'s requirements as well of not exceeding the 0.05% sugar from any source per any serving and is lactose-free.

This company are properly grown, harvested, and processed to create an unique and intense taste. Like Ultimate Chocolate Shoppe they use Maltitol which comes from corn, to sweeten the chocolate. Because Maltitol mostly doesn't get digested it passes like fiber. This good for those who are in search of a low carbohydrate treat. Especially diabetic chocoholics because this chocolate don't raise the blood sugar and because they use the minimal amount of Maltitol, the laxative effect reported is minimised as well.

These are just a few companies on the inter-net today that produce and sell many chocolate candies that will satisfy any chocoholics sweet tooth. Whether they are diabetic or just looking for ways to cut carbohydrates from their diet, know that there are places now that cater to those who are going sugar-free. Gone are the days of endlessly pouring over catalogs just to be disappointed at the selection.<bio>Chris Alleny writes about various subjects including food.
From personal experience in dealing with a diabetic in my family, I know how difficult it is to look for a gift for a chocoholic who has to cut down sugar. The one thing about chocolate the diabetic person in my life is looking for is the one thing most chocoholics are looking for in sugar-free chocolate. That is that doesn't taste like it that is sugar-free. Since regular sugar is what gives regular chocolate it's taste, texture, feel good feeling. It is up to producers of chocolate to find the sugar-free alternatives.

Sorbotol, mannitol, isomalt, lactate, and xylitol are what you would look for in a sugar-free chocolate. Since these are sugar alcohols, they are slowly metabolized in the system because they are absorbed in the small intestine and are what produces the same mass, volume and texture of regular sugar based chocolate.

Meanwhile, polydextrose, otherwise known as aspartame, is what gives sugar-free chocolate that warm swarm soft feeling. Since it tends to copy sugar, it has a superior clean taste. However, the resulting chocolate still has a high fat content. It also contains lactose, which derived from milk. Not good for those who are lactose intolerant. Besides my family member says it sometimes gave him a migraine headache. That is caused in part by one of the additives used in giving aspartame an added sweetness.

Aspartame in itself is widely known as sugar-free but it is chemically made. So you may want to avoid it if you suffer from migraine headaches. This additive even though it is derived from the birch tree contains phenylethyamine.

Another such sweetener is Inulin, which happens to be a probiotic. A robotic, aka Activia, is a living microorganism which is what helps in the below mentioned maintaining regularity. So therefore, it is fermented in the lower intestine by beneficial bacteria called bifido bacteria. Inulin, since it has a lower calorie carbohydrate intake, is very is beneficial in the making of chocolate. Thus, helping people who need help in weight management. Since in the consumption of inulin, the blood sugar levels are not elevated, it makes a quality sugar substitute in chocolates for diabetics. Inulin also acts as a soluble fiber, which will help in maintaining regularity. Plus, inulin has been noted to have a positive effect people who are worried about calcium absorption like adolescents and postmenopausal women, which is an additional positive effect.

Now I have heard of Stevia. While it has no nutritional value and no caloric intake since it is derived from an herb, it could be the healthiest alternative in the long run. However, it has been noted that some diabetics had problems with it raising their blood sugar. Personally, my diabetic family member didn't have this problem.

So armed with this knowledge about what makes up sugar-free chocolate. It is my hope that you as the person, who wants to indulge that special person in your life who either just wants to cut some sugar out of their life or needs to can make a healthy choice in the long run.<bio>Chris Alleny writes about various subjects including food.
Galactose is one of the 8 saccharides known as Glyconutrients. They are vital nutrients to the body and are:

• Mannose • Glucose • Galactose • Xylose • Fucose (not fructose) • N-acetylglucosamine • N-acetylneuramic acid • N-acetylgalactosamine

Galactose is found in sugar beets and dairy products. It is a sugar and is also known as brain sugar. Because it has food energy it is known as a nutritive sweetener. It is not very water-soluble and is less sweet than glucose. When joined with glucose it forms the disaccharide known as lactose found in milk. Alone glactose is known as a monosaccharide.

Galactose is a vital nutrient in our body and deficiencies can cause serious metabolic disorders:

• Mental retardation • Cataracts • A rare deficiency UDPgalactose-4-epimerase deficiency can cause nerve deafness • Galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase deficiency • Compulsive blinking disorder.

Glactose is found in a number of natural products combined with other sugars, the most notable being lactose (combination of glactose and glucose). It is the glactose in lactose that causes an inability to digest dairy products known as lactose intolerance. It is also found in polysaccharides, carbohydrates and lipids. Lipids are found in the nerve tissue and the brain. Glactose is used in medicines and synthetic substances.

A rare heriditary disease is known as Galactosemia can be found in infants. It occurs when there is too much Glactose in the body. This is caused by a liver enzyme deficiency. It is very important to diagnose this metabolic disorder early so that life long problems do not occur. This is a hereditary disease. It can only occur if one or both parents have this disorder. The disease will become apparent in the 1st days of life when the infant starts taking milk or formula.

Jaundice, liver enlargement and vomiting are the usual signs of Galactosemia. However it can be further complicated by other infections. Blood tests will usually confirm diagnosis. If left untreated the disease can get serious and lead to kidney, liver, eye, and brain damage.

The treatment is a glactose free diet. This is a long-term treatment and may have to be maintained for years and sometimes the whole of the person's life. As an added precaution Expectant Mothers who are known to be at risk for this disease can also be placed on a glactose free diet during pregnancy. If diagnosed and treated early in life with an infant any liver damage will automatically heal up however if left untreated there can be irreversible damage. All jaundiced babies should be tested for Galactosemia. Galactose is also used for research into eye diseases.

Consumption of yogurt and cottage cheese will produce more Galactose as the lactose in these 2 substances is easily broken down into the monosaccharide forms of glucose and galactose. Galactose can also be found in pectin, which can be obtained from fruits especially strawberries, and citrus fruits. <bio>Zach Thompson is a Glyconutrients Consultant.
Green tea is widely known to help with digestive problems but first of all, you need to find out what's causing your digestive issues. If you suffer from nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, or diarrhea after drinking milk or eating dairy products, you may be lactose intolerant. This is a common reaction. According to some reports, between 30 and 50 million Americans are lactose intolerant.

Lactose is the sugar found in milk and other dairy products. The small intestine produces an enzyme called lactase whose job it is to break lactose down into two simple sugars called glucose and galactose. The glucose is then absorbed into the bloodstream for nourishment. If your body does not produce enough lactase, the unaltered lactose makes its way into the large intestine and begins to ferment, producing acids and gases.

ALLERGY OR INTOLERANCE?

Some think that they are allergic to milk when they have these symptoms. Usually this is not the case. Food allergies are rare. According to some experts, only 1 to 2 percent of the general population is affected by a true food allergy.

What is the difference?

Though the symptoms are similar, there are differences. With an allergy, the immune system produces a "histamine" to fight against foods you have ingested to which you are allergic. Some symptoms may be swelling of the lips or tongue, hives (rash), or asthma. Lactose intolerance will not cause these symptoms because the immune system is not involved. Lactose intolerance is the body's inability to assimilate a food properly, causing a reaction.

How can help you tell the difference?

If it is a real food allergy, the reaction will occur within minutes of ingesting the food that you are sensitive to. If the symptoms do not occur for an hour or more, it is most likely lactose intolerance.

FOODS TO AVOID

These foods may also contain lactose and could cause symptoms:

* Bread and bread products * Cakes and cookies * Candies * Instant potatoes * Margarine * Some prescription drugs * Some over-the-counter medicines * Pre-mixed foods for pancakes, biscuits, and cookies * Processed breakfast cereals * Salad dressings * Lunch meats * Soups

TREATMENT?

At this time, there is no treatment that can cure the problem, but you can prevent some of the symptoms by ingesting a food enzyme dietary supplement just before taking your first bite of food. These contain lactase to assist the intestines in converting lactose. Products come in pill or liquid form. You can also take probiotics (opposite of antibiotics)on a regular basis. These help produce "good bacteria" in the body, promote good digestion and reduce the reaction your body may have to foods containing lactose.

Through trial and error, you may be able to determine which foods or what amount of foods cause you the most discomfort. By being observant of your body's reaction, you will find that you know how much you can or cannot digest.

You may have to cut out dairy products altogether. You should, however, find other sources of calcium that has been supplied through the dairy products. Certain green vegetables and some kinds of fish and nuts are high in calcium.

Lactose intolerance is not life threatening, just uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing. Managing lactose intolerance can be challenging, but possible. Be observant of what you eat and take preventative measures once you determine what foods cause you the most problems. Then you should find that you are symptom free and can enjoy most of the foods you love, always in moderation of course. If your symptoms persist, there may be something more serious that requires a visit to your physician. Learn to read your body and know when you need to make adjustments in your diet and nutrition.

In order to prevent digestive problems, make it a habit to drink green tea regularly, it has a host of health benefits including prevention of cancer, lowering of cholesterol, and many more. <bio>Mary Rose Antonio has a website http://www.theteaavenue.com and http://www.green-tea-expert.com that talks about the benefits of green tea. </bio>

Some people who have cellulite go to drastic measure like having plastic surgery to get rid of it. There are other, less invasive ways of ridding your body of cellulite. These same tips can also be used to prevent cellulite from forming.

A detoxification diet is the single most important way to reduce or prevent cellulite. What you ingest always shows up on your body, and by putting only good food into your body, only good will show. Fresh fruits and vegetables are important foods to eat, while black tea, iced tea, coffee and alcohol are things to avoid at all cost.

Canned or processed foods are something else to avoid. Water retention greatly influences the formation of cellulite, and canned foods have too much sodium salt with aids in retention. Lactose, the sugar found in milk and other dairy products, can give you the same effect. It must be eaten in moderation. Instead, eat yogurt and cheese made with reduced lactose, and drink soy milk, which contains no lactose.

Another factor related to cellulite formation is fat. Fat in foods contributes to the increase of cells that produces adipose tissue, which leads to weight gain. Regular exercise can combat these things.

Food high in vitamins, fiber and minerals help regulate energy production in your body and absorb fatty foods. They help keep your shkin healthy and young.

Water consumption is another very important item in your fight against cellulite. It is recommended that youdrink at least two litres (8 cups) or water a day. This helps eliminate toxins from your body through the kidneys. It also helps your skin to be hydrated, and your stomach to feel full.

When you do eat, try to eat 5 small meals instead of three large ones. This allows your digestive tract to work more efficiently. It also keeps your from eating and eating, when in reality, you were full before.

Here are some extra tips on reducing and preventing cellulite.

•Lean protein foods are better than fatty ones. Eat the egg white, but not the yolk. Eat meats such as fish, chicken or filet mignon. Eat food grilled or baked, instead of fried.

•Do not drink soda or alcohol because they are empty calories and have no nutritional value. Instead, drink water or fruit juice.

•Avoid fat-filled foods such as pizza, gravy, fast food, ice cream, etc.

•Do not eat refined sugar. Instead, eat pasta, potatoes or fruit.

•Fiber rich foods are good sources of energy and help diminish absorption of fat. They also help regulate your intestines.

•Exercise! Jogging, riding a bike and swimming help burn fat and calories, and thus reduce the risk of forming cellulite.

•Do not use excessive oil when preparing your food.

•Avoid too much salt. <bio>You will find more from this author at: http://www.mybody-magazine.com </bio>

Bloating is a very common symptom that people often experience after eating a meal. The bloating is usually felt in the lower part of the abdomen and sometimes in the upper section. Bloating usually feels as if there is pressure being applied from the inside and people often report that they can look up to six months pregnant. Bloating after eating is often different to the bloating experienced with menopause, pregnancy and PMS. Bloating after eating feels gassy and is usually relieved after passing wind or burping. This kind of bloating can be caused by certain foods. However, if it happens frequently, it can also indicate a digestive problem such as leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, candida overgrowth, intestinal parasites, celiac disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and general food allergies and intolerances. Apart from bloating after eating, a common symptom of all of these conditions is chronic tiredness. This is because your digestive system is responsible for the breakdown and absorption of nutrients from the food you eat. If there is a digestive problem, its easy to become nutrient deficient and this commonly causes chronic tiredness.

So, how do you know if you are bloating because of foods that you are eating, or because you have a digestive problem? A person with a healthy digestive system will experience far less bloating, even with foods that commonly cause bloating. However, the list of foods below commonly causes bloating in many people.

Raffinose - a sugar found in beans, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, other vegetables and whole grains. Eaten raw, these foods cause more bloating than when they are cooked.

Lactose - a natural sugar found mainly in milk and milk products, such as cheese, cream, yoghurt and ice cream. Lactose levels are much higher in milk and non-fat milk than in cheese and yogurt. Lactose is commonly associated with irritable bowel syndrome.

Fructose - a sugar found in fruits and honey. It's also used as a sweetener in some soft drinks, fruit drinks and processed foods. Fructose is also considered to be an important contributing factor to irritable bowel syndrome for many people.

Sorbitol - a sugar found naturally in fruits, including apples, pears, peaches, and prunes, and is also used as an artificial sweetener in many dietetic foods and sugar-free candies and gums.

Starches - most starches, including potatoes, corn, rice, bread, noodles and any products made from flour produce gas as they are broken down in the large intestine.

Wheat -- in particular, wheat appears to be a major source of bloating and gas. Most people find that if they eliminate wheat and flour products, their bloating nearly always improves.

Soluble fibre -- this type of fibre dissolves easily in water and takes on a soft, gel-like texture in the intestines. It's found in oat bran, beans, peas and most fruits.

Insoluble fiber -- this type of fibre doesn't dissolve in water and passes unchanged through the intestines and therefore produces less gas than soluble fibre. It is found in wheat bran and most fruit and vegetable skins.

Legumes commonly cause bloating and gas due to their complex structure of starch and protein. Soaking and cooking legumes well helps to reduce bloating.

Please note: The information in this article is not intended to take the place of a personal relationship with a qualified health practitioner nor is it intended as medical advice. <bio>Alison Cassar is a naturopathic practitioner and nutritionist and runs a busy clinic in Sydney, Australia.
Although the mention of stomach gas problems, such as belching, flatulence, bloating and "gas pains" often elicits some degree of amusement, all of us have gas in our intestinal tract and must expel it in some way.

Some individuals are very sensitive to the effects of gas collections in the stomach and intestinal tract and may develop significant discomfort.

If such complaints are troublesome and persistent and do not respond to simple measures, such as change in diet, a visit to your doctor could be helpful.

The gas brought back by belching comes entirely from swallowed air. We all swallow some air when eating food and drinking liquids. Most of the gas mixes with the stomach content and either enters into the small intestine or is belched back.

The air that enters the small intestine is either absorbed or it may continue through to the large intestine and is then passed rectally. Individuals may swallow more air (and thus increase stomach gas) if they have a post-nasal drip, chew gum, have poorly fitting dentures, suck on hard candies or smoke tobacco. Drinking carbonated beverages (soda or beer) or eating rapidly can also increase stomach gas.

The food we choose to eat can influence the amount of gas passed rectally. Although most of our food intake is absorbed in the small intestine, some foods, such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, baked beans, and bran are incompletely digested.

They are then broken down by bacteria in the large intestine, causing the formation of gas. A high roughage diet is important to promote bowel regularity, but excessive roughage or fiber may lead to bloating and increased flatulence.

When increasing the amount of fiber in your diet, do so gradually, allowing your intestinal tract time to adjust.Milk sugar (lactose) requires an intestinal enzyme (lactase) for digestion. When individuals lack this enzyme the lactose in milk and other dairy products enters the large intestine where the lactose is broken down by bacteria, producing gas.

Although milk is an excellent source of protein and calcium, many adults experience abdominal bloating, gas and diarrhea after consuming milk sugar. Persons from Asia and Africa are often extremely intolerant to the smallest quantity of dairy products.

Everyone passes some rectal gas, although the volume of gas is different each day. Much of the flatus comes from the nitrogen found in the air one swallows. The remainder of the flatus volume is the result of carbohydrates which are not absorbed in the small intestine and are broken down by bacteria in the large intestine.

Therefore, the amount of flatus represents a combination of swallowed air and poorly absorbed carbohydrates. The unpleasant order of flatus is due to other gases, such as hydrogen sulfide, which is produced by the bacteria.

Individuals with a long history of occasional gaseousness and abdominal discomfort need not seek medical attention. A change in the location of abdominal pain, significant increase in the frequency or severity of symptoms, or onset of new symptoms in individuals over the age of 40 are some of the reasons to see your doctor. <bio>Learn all you wanted to know about stomach gas http://www.stomach-gas.info </bio>

Glucose is the most commonly known of all the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/glyconutrients" rel="tag">Glyconutrients. Glucose is one of the most vital factors in the body's energy cycle. This makes it one of the most important of the Glyconutrient saccharides. It is one of the eight essential nutrients making up this group. They are:

•Mannose •Glucose •Galactose •Xylose: •Fucose (not fructose) •N-acetylglucosamine •N-acetylneuramic acid •N-acetylgalactosamine

Glucose is found naturally in plants, from the process known as photosynthesis. It can also be found in some prokaryotes. In fungus and animals glucose is made from the breakdown of glycogen (glycogenolysis). Animals make glucose in the kidneys and liver with a process called gluconeogenesis.

It is also made commercially from natural starch. This is taken from several plants, the most common one being maize. The body gets much of its energy from the break down of carbohydrates like starch. This creates monosaccharide and disaccharides much of these substances are made up of glucose. Insulin reaction controls the amount of glucose in the blood (also known as blood sugar) when too much blood sugar is present in the blood this is can be sign of Diabetes.

Glucose is important in lipid metabolism and the making of proteins. It is also used in the processing of Vitamin C and making starch cellulose and glycogen (animal starch). Coupled with glactose, glucose forms the disaccharide known as lactose. This is the sugar found in milk. Glucose is also a part of sucrose (table sugar)

Glucose is found in all major carbohydrates, either alone or coupled with another monosaccharide. Polysaccharides are broken down in the small intestine and lumen of the duodenum to form glucose. It is then absorbed into the blood from the small intestine walls. The muscles and brain cells use some of the glucose and the rest is processed by the liver and stored as fat cells. When the body needs energy and no food is present the fat cells are broken down as fuel for the body.

Glucose is a vital source of energy for the body but when there is too much or too little in the blood stream (causing high or low blood sugar )it can give rise to serious conditions in the body. One of these is the life threatening disease known as Diabetes. This is due to a malfunction in the pancreas that does not allow enough Insulin to break down glucose. This leads to high amounts of glucose in the blood (known as high blood sugar) and if left untreated will result in death.

Glucose is one of the most vital factors in the body's energy cycle. This makes it one of the most important of the Glyconutrient saccharides. It is one of the eight essential nutrients making up this group. In its purest form it is used medicinally to counteract low blood sugar and to boost energy in patients. <bio>Zach Thompson is a Glyconutrients Consultant.
Each person is different, but there are a few general guidelines to follow on a diet for irritable bowel syndrome. Anyone who suffers from IBS can recall one or two foods that make their IBS symptoms worse. There may be several other unidentifiable foods that may also trigger IBS symptoms.

Try eating several smaller meals throughout the day rather than having three large ones. This may help to reduce IBS symptoms. Some IBS sufferers note that after a large meal they may develop cramping and diarrhea.

Many people also find that it help to keep their meals high in carbohydrates such as pasta, fruits, cereals, whole-grain breads, rice and vegetables. They also want to eat low-fat meals. A high protein, low-fat diet may also help reduce the pain that is experienced after eating.

These are some foods that can trigger attacks of IBS:

=95 Alcohol =95 Artificial fats =95 Coconut milk =95 Dairy products =95 Fried foods =95 Dark meat and poultry skin =95 Shortening =95 Artificial sweeteners =95 Carbonated beverages =95 Coffee- even decaf =95 Egg yolks =95 Oils =95 Red meat =95 Solid chocolate

Fiber

Soluble fiber has various benefits that may help to reduce IBS symptoms. Because fiber seems to keep the colon slightly distended, spasms may be prevented. Fiber absorbs water. This helps the stools from getting too hard so that you may have difficulty in passing them. You should add just enough fiber to your IBS diet so that stools remain soft and are easy to pass. When first going to a high fiber diet, you may notice an increase in bloating and gas. However, these symptoms should subside as your body adjusts which could take a few weeks.

Sources of Soluble Fiber

Here are some sources of soluble fiber that you should consume on your IBS diet:

=95 Barley =95 Currants =95 Figs =95 Fresh peas =95 Citrucel =95 Oatmeal =95 Prunes =95 Raisins =95 Sourdough bread =95 Brown rice =95 Dried beans =95 French bread =95 Oat bran =95 Pasta =95 Metamucil =95 Rice =95 Soy

These are some foods that may cause excessive gas so you want to try to avoid these on an IBS diet at first. You may then add them slowly back into your diet, one by one, to see if any one is the reason for your symptoms:

=95 Beans =95 Brussels sprouts =95 Cauliflower =95 Leeks =95 Onions =95 Bananas =95 Broccoli =95 Cabbage =95 Garlic =95 Nuts =95 Raisins

Lactose Intolerance

When a body is unable to digest milk sugar, or lactose, the condition is known as lactose intolerance. Some of the symptoms include bloating, gas and even pain. If you suspect that you may be lactose intolerant, then you should avoid milk and all dairy products and see if your symptoms improve. You must be sure that your body receives enough calcium in other ways =96 through calcium supplements or eating other calcium rich foods.

Probiotics

Consuming lactobacillus acidophilus or "friendly bacteria" may also be an aid in digestion. This helps to maintain the "good" bacteria in your intestines. You can easily find these "good" bacteria in yogurt. Yogurt is also a good source of calcium, and is better tolerated than some of the other milk products.

Food Diary

You may be up against a big challenge when it comes down to figuring out what food will either harm or help IBS. When you are on a diet for irritable bowel syndrome, the best thing for you to do is to keep a food journal. You will be able to easily tell which foods are safe to eat and which foods may trigger your IBS symptoms.

Remember to try and stick to your diet for irritable bowel syndrome. You may just be pleasantly surprised at how your symptoms are relieved with the proper diet. <bio>Article written by Jessica Bradbury, she has a site dedicated to bottom line information on IBS at http://www.ibs-information.com </bio>

You may have heard the best way to diet and be healthy is to stay as far away from carbohydrates as possible. But carbohydrates are not as bad as many make them out to be. In fact, they even have important jobs in your body, being the main energy source to keep your system running.

There are three main types of food items you take into your body =96 fats, proteins and carbohydrates. There are also two kinds of carbohydrates. One is simple carbohydrates, which are quickly broken down in the digestive tract and turned into glucose (blood sugar). Items made of sugars such are sucrose (table sugar), lactose (milk sugar), and fructose (fruit sugar). Simple carbohydrates are the kind of items that are turned into fast energy for the body.

The other kind of carbohydrates are complex carbohydrates. These are foods that break down more slowly and are made of more complex chemical compounds. These foods include beans, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains which are much harder to break down and instead of giving just a quick burst of energy, slowly release the energy into the body and keep blood sugar levels constant. In addition, these foods have the added bonuses of having vitamins, minerals and high fiber content.

This does not mean you should totally cut the simple carbohydrates out of your diet. They are ok to eat, just don't eat too much of them and use them as a treat rather than the regular things to eat in every meal. You should also moderate the amount of complex carbohydrates you eat. Any carbohydrates that are not being used by the system right away are stored by the body in the form of fat. So eating too much of any carbohydrate is too much. If you do feel hungry and want a little more to eat, try to steer yourself towards carbohydrates with a lot of fiber, like apples, bananas, pears or other fruit. They're still sweet, but a healthier option. In addition to having fiber, fruits and vegetables also have photo nutrient compounds that are anti-oxidants and can help defend your body from disease.

When shopping, there are a few simple tips to remember. Avoid the things that you know have white flour and refined sugars in them such as pastries, cookies and crackers. When you are looking for grains, go for the whole grains instead of the processed ones. That means for breads, look for whole grain instead of white bread. Purchase brown rice instead of white rice. And also look for whole-wheat pastas. If you're willing to try something new, you may want to try grains you may never have heard for before such as millet, bulgur and quinoa. <bio>Brandon H. The following is a brief primer on Fibromyalgia diet tips which may be able to help poise your body and to offer your body relief with just a few small nutritional modifications.

Many people with fibromyalgia have overlapping conditions that require special diets. Individuals with lactose intolerance need to limit their intake of milk and dairy products or take lactase enzymes that are available without a prescription.
If you're trying to lose weight or just eat a healthier diet, cutting down on sugar is a great place to start. The average American consumes about three pounds of sugar every week, about six times the maximum recommended allowance.

Here are a few ways to start getting sugar out of your food:

1. Don't add sugar to your food. Try adding berries or bananas to your cereal instead of sugar. You should try to avoid drinking tea or coffee, but if you must, drink it without sugar. Try reducing the amount of sugar slowly, until you don't need to add it at all.

2. Add protein to each meal. Protein helps to stabilize blood sugar levels. A 150 lb/68 kg person doesn't need more than 80-85g of protein per day, and one ounce of any meat contains 7g of protein. But protein doesn't necessarily mean meat: legumes, nuts, and seeds are all excellent vegetarian sources of protein.

3. Instead of soda and juice, drink water. One can of soda contains 9-10 tablespoons of sugar! Even 100% fruit juice contains a lot of sugar, without the fiber of the whole fruit. Switch to water or skim milk instead. Instead of drinking juice, eat fresh fruit.

4. Read the nutrition labels and ingredients lists. Watch out for hidden sugars. Honey, molasses, corn syrup and maple syrup all contribute sugar. Look for words ending in "ose" like fructose and dextrose - these are other forms of sugar. And many "sugar-free" products contain sugar alcohols like xylitol, sorbitol, and mannitol. These contain just as many (if not more!) calories as sugar and can cause you diarrhea, too.

5. For snack and desserts, choose fresh fruit instead of sugary sweets. Sugar is important to provide fuel and energy to your body, but should be consumed in its natural form. Fruits contain fiber and nutrients that prevent the sugar from metabolizing so quickly, which keeps your blood sugar levels more stable.

Also remember to divide your carbohydrate "budget" up over the day - try to eat three meals and two to four snack. This will keep your blood sugar levels more even and provide more continuous energy. <bio>Cassandra Marx is a writer in the field of nutrition and wellness. She recommends using a meal replacement like Rice 'n Shine (http://www.getricenshine.com) as a healthy source of low glycemic index carbohydrates. </bio>

Adult Singles Dating Online services can be proud to know that Montel Williams is cool with Sugar Daddy for me, the talk show host was estatic to find that the adult singles dating dating scene has been uplifted by a great free dating site.

The most important thing to understand in adult free dating sites is what they can offer singles and married couples. The part in deciding which Sugar Daddy Dating site can be a bit difficult for adult singles. There is a great site dedicated to the sugar daddy dating theme and offers free reviews and even pictures of sugar daddies and sugar babies including there lovely gifts they have received from these wealth singles. Adult Singles Dating offers great reviews between the competitors of the free adult dating sites on the net. Which Sugar Daddy sites are worth the subscription and why the others are not. They also have a great video of the Montel Williams show about the Sugar Daddy web site and who are using the dating services. After viewing the video I was inclined to view the Sugar Daddy party and find out what Montel Williams and everyone else is talking about. We appears that sugar daddy is here to stay and some women have become quite well off in the adult dating scene using the sugar daddy dating services. They sing up for the Free Adult Dating Service meet wealthy men collect the rewards and actually make a great profit and of course life for themselves.

For about a year I have been searching for an online dating service that is fun to use and offers some great features. Some new features I have found to be useful is the Sugar Daddy Finder that alows Sugar Mommas to find Sugar Daddys and Sugar Daddys to find some very nice sugar mommas.

To be a sugar daddy it takes some high spending and alot of energy to take your sugar baby across the globe. So if you have a sugar daddy you might just need the adult discreet dating services they offer, but if you are looking for some adult singles and having some fun running into your multi million dollar sugar daddy online you me inclined to visit a sugar daddy for me web site and find out what Montel Williams likes about the site and he Adult singles dating network. <bio>Markus Skupeika, Social Web Sites Specialist http://www.adultsinglesdating.net </bio>

Everyone knows that sugar is not a good part of a healthy diet and so many people are turning to sugar substitutes in order to get their sweet tooth fulfilled, but, are these substitutes in reality better than sugar or are there more things hidden under the surface of these "healthier" alternatives than meets the eye?

Let's take a closer look at some of these substitutes and see which ones are better and which ones may be better to avoid.

SUCRALOSE, sold under the name splenda, is useful as a one to one substitute for sugar. Sucralose is made from sugar and is used to make splenda which tastes like sugar. Sucralose has no calories but does not measure, look or act like sugar. Sucralose is 600xs sweeter than sugar so much less is needed for the same sweetness. Sucralose is bulked up with maltodextrin, a carbohydrate derived from corn, giving it some calories and making it look and act like sugar. This combination makes splenda. Splenda has 1/8 to 1/4 the calories of sugar. We are told that all the sucralose consumed will be excreted unused but despite the manufactures claims, sucralose is absorbed and metabolized by the body. The FDA's "final rule" report says that 11% to 27% of sucralose is absorbed in humans and the Japanese food sanitation council says as much as 40% is absorbed.

SUCROSE is made from sugar beets or sugar cane. Not only does sucrose taste good, but it also gives you quick energy as well. However, the downside to this quick energy burst is that when it's gone, your body wants another dose of sugar to keep the energy going. Taking in too much sucrose leads to excessive insulin responses, which causes the excess carbohydrates to be stored in your fat cells. Because sucrose is a high-glycemic (rapid release) sugar, you should substitute other sweeteners. Here are some other forms of sucrose to avoid when looking at labels: raw sugar, brown sugar, invert sugar, turbinado, confectioner's sugar, cane sugar, crystallized cane juice.

ASPARTAME is about 200xs sweeter than sugar and there is a lot of concern over the safety of this sweetener. It is made from two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine. Aspartame is marketed under the names NutraSweet and equal and is found in a wide variety of prepared products. This sweetener is not useful for cooking or adding to hot beverages.

MALTITOL, like all sugar alcohols does not promote tooth decay and has a taste and sweetness like sugar. It does not raise blood sugar levels or insulin levels and is useful for diabetics. Like all sugar alcohols, maltitol can have a laxative effect in some people.

SACCHARINE has been around for almost 100 years and is 200xs sweeter than sugar. It is produced from a substance found in grapes. The human body cannot break it down, so it does not produce an insulin response. It is most commonly found in soft drinks and sweeteners like sweet n low.

SORBITOL is a sugar alcohol which is found in numerous products, especially those that need to become dry or hardened like candies or confectionaries. Sorbitol is is often used in reduced calorie or light products.

HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP is made from corn starch and has a high glycemic value which means it will cause a large insulin response. There is some controversy over the safety of using large amounts of this sweetener over time. High fructose corn syrup is found in numerous products and is not the same as a product that contains fructose.

FRUCTOSE, also known as fruit sugar, is sweeter than table sugar and only 1/3 is needed as a sugar substitute. Fructose is low on the glycemic index (slow release sugar) and so it helps control insulin responses, keeping them low, which means it is good for diabetics.

DEXTROSE OR GLUCOSE, has a higher glycemic value than table sugar and on most glycemic indexes, glucose is used to compare the value of other "foods" as glucose (which is actual blood sugar) has a faster release into your system than most any other sugar or food item which will result in a very sharp rise in your insulin levels. Diabetics should not use this sweetener. On labels it can also be called corn sugar.

LACTOSE, also known as milk sugar is about half way between sucrose and fructose on the glycemic index. It is made from whey and skim milk and is used largely by the pharmaceutical industry.

HONEY, is an invert sugar formed by an enzyme from nectar. It is a combination of fructose, sucrose, glucose and maltose and is a high glycemic sweetener so it should be avoided by diabetics who need to control insulin. Unlike popular belief's, honey only contains trace amounts of vitamins and minerals.

As you can see, some sugars and substitutes can be fine to use in place of table sugar but certainly NOT all of them. For diabetics or people trying to control their insulin for fat loss, careful consideration must be taken when using sweeteners or sweetened products. As for the rest of us, well, still we need to be aware of what kind of sweeteners we consume as you cannot always rely on claims made by manufactures of some sweeteners or products which contain sweeteners regarding there safety or health benefits. <bio>Jim O'Neill gives you tons of valuable information on the subjects of weight loss, fitness, and nutrition to make it easy for you to live a healthy lifestyle.
In the movies, cats love a bowl of cold milk. In the real world, giving a cat milk can do more harm than good.

While milk might seem like a natural choice for your cat, the truth is that cow's milk offers no nutritional value for cats, and it can cause digestive problems in many. The reason is that most cats develop intolerance to lactose shortly after they are weaned. This means that they are unable to digest the sugars that occur naturally in milk. This causes problems that include diarrhea and other unpleasant digestive problems.

Some people think that cats need to have milk in order to get all the necessary nutrients. This is not true. In fact, cow's milk does nothing to meet a cat's nutritional needs. If a cat was fed only milk, it would not be able to survive. Feral cats provide proof that cats do not need milk to be healthy, as wild cats do not usually have the opportunity to drink cow's milk.

As long as your cat is eating a high quality food, and has access to clean fresh water, she is getting all that she needs. Milk alone is not a sufficient diet for any cat, and should never be given in place of food OR in place of water. Replacing a cat's food or water with milk can cause your cat to become malnourished.

Many cats do seem to enjoy milk, and this causes a dilemma for many cat owners who love to give their cat treats that they enjoy. While most cats are lactose intolerant, some are not. For these cats, milk as an occasional treat is fine. The only way to know how your cat will react to milk is to feed her some.

If she does not develop diarrhea then it is safe to assume that she is not lactose intolerant, and you can continue to give her the treat she loves. Again, milk should never be given in place of food, but as a treat.

If your cat IS lactose intolerant, but still seems to crave a bowl of milk now and then, there is a way to satisfy her without upsetting her digestive system. Milk substitute that is specially formulated for cats is sold in most pet food stores. Like regular milk, it should only be given as a treat and not as a replacement for meals. Even if you feed this "cats milk" on a regular basis, a high quality cat food and fresh water should always be available.

Another option for lactose intolerant cats is to give lactose-free milk. This milk is available in the same aisle as regular milk in most grocery stores.

In addition to cat's milk, there are a lot of other ways to treat your cats to special food.

If your cat normally eats dry food, give her some wet food once or twice a week as a special treat. Many makers of dry cat food also make wet food, so you can stick with your favorite brand if that is important to you.

Another way to treat your cats is to find ways to make their dry food special. Pet stores sell special gravy that can be poured over dry food. Several flavors are available, so you can offer your cat a variety to keep her from becoming bored with her food.

Another version of this is to pour the water from a can of tuna over the dry food.

You can also feed your cat some tuna, in place of wet food, as an occasional treat.

Take a trip down the treat aisle at the pet store, and you will see row after row of treats. While most of them are fine for your cat, keep in mind that treats should be given as such, and should not be fed to your cat in excess as this can cause an unhealthy weight gain.

Kittens, unlike full grown cats, DO need milk, but the milk they need is their mother's. The mother's milk is full of all the fat, protein and antibodies that a kitten needs to grow and survive. Until a kitten is weaned, approximately four weeks after birth, a kitten should have only milk. NEVER give a kitten cow's milk. Obviously, the ideal milk is that from the kitten's mother. If this is not possible due the kitten being abandoned or orphaned, you will need to feed a substitute that should be available at your local pet store. The kitten will need to be fed this milk substitute several times a day. While the pet store personnel can probably answer most of your questions about caring for abandoned kitten, you should consult a veterinarian to be sure that the kitten is getting exactly what it needs.

The bottom line is that milk is not necessary for a cat, but as long as she seems able to tolerate it, an occasional bowl isn't going to hurt. <bio>David Beart is the owner of http://www.professorshouse.com .
Sugar Scrubbing is a gentle way to exfoliate the skin just about anywhere on your body. A basic sugar scrub includes of course sugar and some sort of liquid and lotion or moisturizer. For a very simple sugar scrub mix some sugar with enough of your favorite body lotion to form a paste that's easy to rub into you skin.

But why would you want to use a sugar scrub in the first place? Sugar scrubbing is a great way to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating removes dead skin particles, as well as any oil and residue. This will soften your skin and preparing it for anything else to follow such as a moisturizer. A sugar scrub stimulates the lymph system, which is responsible for eliminating toxins out of the body. The gentle massage of rubbing a sugar scrub into your skin also improves the circulation of the blood right under you skin, giving you that healthy glow.

Start your sugar scrubbing treatment by cleaning your skin with a gentle soap or other cleanser and warm water. Then grab a handful of the sugar scrub and massage it into your skin in circular motion. The grainy sugar will gently exfoliate your skin. Rinse the sugar off with plenty of cool water and use some more cleanser to get any sugary residue off your skin. Gently pat your skin dry with a soft, clean towel and follow with your favorite moisturizer. You should use a sugar scrub to exfoliate once or twice a week as needed to maintain that soft skin and healthy glow.

Are you ready to give sugar scrubbing a try? Here are some great recipes you can put together in no time at all and give this a try.

Invigorating Lemon Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

1 cup of sugar cup of extra virgin olive oil 1 tsp lemon juice 3 -- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil

Combine all ingredients to form a paste. Rub it into your skin in a circular motion and rinse.

Tip -- For a calming sugar scrub, replace the peppermint essential oil with lavender or rosemary oil.

Almond Grapefruit Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

1 cup of sugar cup of almond oil 5-10 drops of grapefruit essential oil

Mix the sugar and almond oil until well combined, then slowly add the grapefruit essential oil drop by drop until you get the desired fragrance. Use like the sugar scrub above.

Give sugar scrubbing a try. You'll be amazed at the results this simple beauty treatment provides. Not only will your skin get soft and glowing, but the scents in your sugar scrubs uplift your spirits as well. Before you know it you'll be mixing sugar scrubs on a weekly basis, experimenting with different oils or lotions and using different essential oils. <bio>If you love http://www.saltscrubsandbathmelts.com sugar and salt scrubs, be sure to visit SaltScrubsandBathMelts.com for more free tips, recipes and resources for the natural bath. </bio>
