Everyone responds to stress in different ways. Some of the changes in one's life can be the leading cause of one suffering from stress. There is an interactive tool that measures one's stress level according to the number of changes one has recently had. This score will give a rough estimate of one's current stress level. You will also be able to find out if you are out to experience other health related problems due to one experiencing stress in the next twelve to eighteen months. This has been known to help individual's suffering from stress to better prepare oneself in handling future outbreaks of stress.

If you experience short term or acute stress , you find yourself being awaken during the night and finding yourself very irritable and quiet edgy. One suffering from high levels of stress for longer periods of time may find they are more prone to having or developing serious health problems. High blood pressure is often related to stress. A low immune system can be brought on by stress , and cause your body not to be able to fight off infections or other diseases. Once you have encountered stress , you are bound to encounter depression ; asthma or heart disease.

When the interactive tool is used in measuring one's stress level, one may find that they could be experiencing low; mild; moderate; or high stress levels. An individual suffering from moderate or high stress levels , they are more prone to encountering other stress related illnesses.

This interactive tool is only an estimate of one's stress level. Often the way an individual handles stress depends on several important factors. One's resiliency to cope with change is significant in changing one's lifestyle. This individual needs all the support and love they can get from their family and friends. There are many events that can cause one to suffer from stress.

If you find that your stress level is high or moderate, one may want to consider trying to avoid situations that may cause an increasing amount of stress in one's life. It is important to learn how to handle the stress that one may already be suffering from.

It never hurts to lean an open ear or lean a helping hand to an individual that is suffering from stress in one's life. Often the one suffering from stress finds comfort for oneself when they can share their inner most thoughts with another. Help your loved ones to enjoy a healthier lifestyle by helping them to eliminate stress in their lives <bio>James Brown writes about http://www.vitaminsdietshop.com </bio>

If you are like most people you've probably gone through difficult periods in your life, if you have, you may have noticed that you put on weight, even if you were actually eating less. The fact is that stress can make you fat.

Here's Why...

Research scientists have discovered that the hormone cortisol, loves stress and basically the main job of cortisol is to degrade your muscles and cause you to put on weight. It is impossible to stop cortisol from being released from your body and it would be unwise to do so. However there are a few things that you can do to help keep cortisol levels in check and under control.

So What Is Cortisol?

Cortisol is actually released from the pituitary gland in the brain; its primary role is to help regulate your blood pressure. So when you get stressed, cortisol is released in large levels to help keep your blood pressure under check. The bad thing however is that is also breaks down protein and converts it into fat. It does so by breaking down the protein to amino acids, these are then broken down to give you energy. The problem is, if you are stressed over nothing, then you aren't using the energy, so it gets converted to fat and you lose muscle as well.

Ways To Control Cortisol Levels

There are a number of ways in which you can control cortisol levels; the easiest is simply by thinking positive and thinking happy thoughts. Don't forget that stress is physical as well as mental, so if you are overtraining you are putting extra stress on your body and muscles which can induce your body to release more cortisol.

It is quite uncommon for your body not to be able to control cortisol levels or to consistently produce too much. However you can get medicines to help control cortisol levels for people who blame their weight gain on cortisol. But before you try these, give the natural methods a try first as you'll be much healthier for it. Just relax, chill out or even try yoga or meditation.

It is almost impossible to avoid stress and if you do find yourself stressed don't stop eating. Eat healthy snacks to provide your body with the energy it needs in these stressful situations, which should help reduce excessive cortisol release. If you maintain healthy eating and sleeping habits you should be able to reduce your stress levels. If you still think that your cortisol levels might be excessively high, speak to your doctor and get a proper consultation. <bio>Do you want to learn proven methods to pack on massive muscle, melt away fat and get the body of your dreams?
Stress management is the relief or attempted relief of stress. Stress can be caused by any number of mitigating factors and stress management has become an important tool in the world today. With advances in psychiatry and psychology, more and more is becoming known about stress, thus improving the individual capability in managing stress.

While there are many different methods for stress management, not all of them will work for everybody. One of the keys to stress management is finding an effective personal tool for fighting stress. Some individuals use little soft squeezable items, some people use primal scream therapy, some people take up hobbies, many people find running an effective means of stress management. Whatever means an individual decides on using, it should be something that is readily available to them.

Stress management is of ever increasing importance in the world today. Stress has many causes including coming from the home, from work and from a large number of outside sources over which the individual has little or no control. Stress, like stress management is different for everyone individually. Stress can be caused by pressures at work or with children or spouses at home. Stress can be a direct result of deadlines or urgency created by circumstances surrounding us. Whatever the cause of the stress, finding a viable means of stress management is equally important to physical health and mental health.

Direct links have been found between levels of stress and physical health. It really is true that laughter is the best medicine. While this may sound simple enough, not everyone has the ability to laugh their stress away, nor can anyone, laugh at stress all the time. Finding an effective means of stress management is important for physical well-being. Stress is known to advance heart problems, headaches and prevent the body from healing itself effectively. An effective program for stress management is scientifically proven to keep people healthier for longer periods of time.

Many people own pets to help them relieve stress. Aquariums have been known to lower blood pressure and help in stress management while being low maintenance and easy to take care of. While this solution for stress management may not work for everyone, it is at least, one option.

Whether stress management is accomplished through a creative outlet like running or other personal hobbies, owning pets, or other means of vigorous physical effort which will lower the adrenal production to help reduce stress and stress levels in life, stress management is an important factor to consider. Stress management is not only an urgent need in today's fast-paced lifestyle, but an important factor in both physical and mental health. <bio>Free Self Improvement http://freeselfimprovement.com/ examines all aspects of self improvement: hypnosis, meditation, motivation, personal development, stress reduction. </bio>

Chronic stress is vulnerable to the brain and could result in severe lack of focus. Hence the tendency of patients of chronic stress becoming less and less efficient and even susceptible to accident while on the job. Chronic stress on children has been proven to deter their ability to retain things in their memory.

Apart from the fact that aged people easily loose their memory, memory loss can occur in patient with chronic stress. Studies have proven this that those who, in a certain research process, were given cortisone pills, which is a major stress hormone, had problems with their memory. Prolonged stress often results in severe cases by loss of memory. This is because a prolonged chronic stress condition which exposes the patient to cortisone for a long period, can cause emaciation on the center of memory referred to as the hippocampus. Common occurrence of this condition is in those experiencing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), such as a traumatic events or sex assault.

Increased cortisone level in the body is highly responsible for memory lost. A research conducted, shows that aged people have higher cortisone levels hence the memory loss in them. Situation of memory loss can be changed if only cortisone levels can be reduced to the required levels, because cortisone is a vital hormone in the human system.

Stress, according to researchers can also be reduced if one has enough social and family support. There are, according to studies, high levels of cortisone found in aged people who have less family and social support. Hence they are prone to occurrence of memory loss. Stress could actually be reduced to minimal if a patient can get support in time of serious needs.

Each time you try to remember vital issue or try to recall what you just stored in your brain or an event that transpired during the day without success, then you should know you are stressed up and will need to undergo a program and various forms of counseling that will enable you reduce stress and restore your memory's ability to retain and recall happenings and events as often as you wish. <bio>The Author, Salihu Ibrahim has written many articles on health matters.
While we often worry about stress, not all stress is bad. We need a certain amount of stress to make our lives interesting. And since there is no way to eliminate every commitment or deadline in our lives, we should try to control our stress levels in the best ways we can.

It would be nice if someone created a mathematical formula for stress that would measure how much stress an individual could take without become overwhelmed. Optimal stress levels vary from individual to individual, however, as well as from situation to situation. Some situations that would make you feel very stressful are considered fun and invigorating to someone else. People who love constant change in their lives would feel too much stress in a tedious, mundane job. You can see how different people's definitions of stress may be. Scientists believe that many illnesses are directly related to stress. If you find that you are sick a lot of the time, or that you feel nervous often, you must develop effective strategies to cope with your stress level. Otherwise, you could be open to serious physical deterioration. Stress management is a practiced art, however. You will not relieve your stress in one day; you must keep at it and eventually, you will discover methods that work for you.

A first step is to learn what things make you stress out. While you may not be able to eliminate these things, you can work to make them more manageable. If cooking dinner causes stress, for instance, you may consider getting take-out food once a week to give yourself a break. If giving a presentation at work worries you, maybe you can learn to focus on just one section at a time and reduce your stress in that way. If commuting to work makes you stressful, leave a little earlier. It will become easier to address your overall stress if you discover the things that cause it and then try to limit their impact.

The next step is to try to reduce your emotional reactions to the things that stress you. You may find that these stressors make you think in a negative fashion, focusing only a situation's worst aspects. Try, instead, to think of a stressor as a chance to improve your life. Try to see if you are overreacting to a situation. It may be that every stressor you encounter does not require an urgent response. Maybe you can take some time to study a situation before it bothers you. Think of yourself as in control -- while you may not be able to do anything about the stressor itself, you can control how you feel about it.

Be sure to be aware of any physical reactions you have to stress. Deep-breathing techniques can help you decrease your heart rate, for example. If you have severe reactions, consult your doctor to determine if medication can help you. You can also reduce your stress levels by making your body stronger. Do aerobic activities three times per week, and make sure you eat nutritious foods. Avoid stimulants like sugar and coffee. And recognize that stress is a part of life. While it can't be eliminated, you can develop coping strategies that will help when you feel overwhelmed. <bio>Discover more articles about self help and self improvement by visiting http://www.discover-self-help.com </bio>

Stress is something most people experience at some point in our lives. During times of stress, those people who have Type 2 diabetes have a harder time keeping their blood glucose at the right level. This cycle of stress, not propoerly managing your diabetes, and the resulting poor health can impact your quality of life and cause life-threatening complications. A combination of high stress and diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney disease, cardiovascular problems, and require limb amputation.

Maintaining a healthy quality of life requires managing your stress level. There are many methods used to decrease stress. Some people will use prayer, exercise, meditation, and breathing techniques to decrease stress. Another form of therapy is biofeedback. Biofeedback measures the stress levels in the body through monitoring body temperature and muscle tenseness. This helps a person recognize the symptoms of stress and deal with it at that time. Recently there have been studies aiming to discover whether biofeedback could be paired with relaxation techniques to lower a diabetic's blood glucose levels.

It is medically-accepted that patients who have excess stress also have problems controlling their blood sugar levels. They are often unable to control their eating habits or maintain an exercise regimen due stress. Uncontrollable blood glucose levels, then sickness, and acute complications often result. By using relaxation techniques in conjunction with biofeedback to recognize the signs of stress, patients have been able to alter their stress responses. This has the added benefit of helping to control glucose levels. When a person experiences stress, the body releases a chemical called cortisol. That chemical decreases the ability of the body to properly absorb insulin. Patients who were merely educated about their stress did not as effectively control their glucose levels as the patients who had also undergone biofeedback and relaxation therapy. Studies found that those who learned relaxation therapy and biofeedback also had lowered muscle tension, depression, and anxiety.

This is one more good reason to control our stress. Do you recognize your body's stress signals? Do feel tightening in your shoulder and neck muscles? You may find that you have a hard time inhaling deeply. Perhaps you clench your teeth, or constantly feel hot. Whenever your body tells you that it is stressed, you need to heed the signs and begin relaxation techniques.

Most people know what stress can do to our bodies as well as our mental health. One of the best ways to release stress is to exercise. Exercise has many benefits. Exercise helps you lose weight, lowers your blood glucose levels, and reduces stress-related feelings. If you are suffering from work-related stress, try standing up from your desk, or taking a short walk. Your over-all physical and mental health will greatly benefit from exercise. Using relaxation techniques will help decrease your risk of stress-related complications. Exercise is merely one way to relax. Other methods to help release tension and stress from your body include listening to music, breathing exercises, praying or meditating. <bio>Patricia Davis writes for several online magazines, including http://pesud.com and http://top-healthy.com </bio>

In today's chaotic times there are few among us who are strangers to stress. Be it the chaotic work schedule that leaves us overwhelmed and exhausted at the end of the day, financial difficulties that are never far from our minds, or family conflicts that threaten to leave us emotionally depleted, we have all suffered from stress at one time or another.

And while a certain amount of stress can be a positive and motivating tool -- encouraging us to complete tasks and meet deadlines -- long term and consistently high levels of stress can enormously impact our lives.

We've always known that stress affects health. But now, more than ever, experts are examining the correlation between stress and the physical welfare of the body.

Stress affects health in a number of ways. The physical manifestations of stress can include increased heart rate, high blood pressure, and sleep disorders. Stress can also often be reflected in poor eating habits -- leading to obesity, elevated cholesterol, and decreased functionality of the body's overall system.

Emotionally, stress affects health just as significantly. Depression - often a by-product of stress - carries its own set of physical and emotional dangers.

Those who suffer from stress often also suffer from increased anxiety and panic attacks. Some victims may also experience a reduction of intimacy with their partner and sometimes even sexual dysfunction.

Stress can literally stunt all emotional and physical health, hurling victims into a spiral of discomfort.

Luckily there are many ways to combat stress and decrease the amount that stress affects health. Improved eating habits, the practice of meditation, and a consistent regime of exercise can all greatly impact how much stress affects health.

Often just having someone to talk to can change how stress affects health in your case. If you feel as though stress has become an overwhelming and constant presence in your life, you may look to seek out support in the way of psychological counseling or support groups. Staying connected in relationships will assist you in handling how stress affects health.

Sometimes just taking some time out to enjoy things that make us feel relaxed and happy can do wonders to lower our levels of stress. There's no extricating ourselves from the daily stresses of life. But how stress affects health is within our control. A common sense approach to dealing with stress can mean a lifetime of health. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about stress management visit our ezGuide 2 http://ezguide2.com/category/stress/ </bio>

Being a mother is a demanding task and being a single mother is exponentially more challenging. Stress in single moms runs high because of constant demands and mom having to play dual roles in the lives of their children. What are the effects and what can be done about them?

There is a very demanding daily cycle in the life of the single mom that starts with getting the kids ready for school, getting herself ready for work, working all day long, kids' homework, their aches and pains, their needs, cleaning the house, groceries, fixing things around the house, the list just goes on and on.

Fitting all these things into twelve to sixteen hours every day causes a lot of immediate and short term stress.

There is probably not a single day without stress for the single mom.

In addition to all this, there is also the longer term stress for the single mom that comes from dealing with the emotional aftermath of a divorce or break-up.

What are the effects of this stress on the single mom?

Emotionally the single mom usually suffers because it is very tough maintaining a bright and positive attitude with all these pressure bearing down on you.

There are also the physical effects of stress. These typically include a change in the single mom's weight by either gaining weight or losing weight. Most women tend to experience the effects on the weight gain side.

Unchecked stress levels increase one's appetite that results in either a gain in weight or a real difficulty losing weight.

What can the single mom do to combat this stress?

The most important thing to do is to recognize that you have high stress levels and to take care of yourself with that in mind.

You need to make time for yourself where you can break out of the routine and just simply relax.

This can include something as elaborate as taking a vacation without the children, to something as small as spending an hour at a salon or at the gym.

Stress levels in women are also reduced by getting support from friends and family. Just talking to people and having a good laugh goes a long way towards breaking the constant cycle of stress piling on top of more stress.

Stress in single moms is a very real threat to the health and wellbeing of the single mom and it must be recognized and dealt with stress reducing and relaxation activities on a daily basis. <bio>Tisha Diaz recommends the relaxation, stress relief products, and and feng shui products at http://www.beststresshelp.com/ that include professional quality massage tools and chairs, snuggle comfort pillows, aromatherapy products, and other things to soothe you and delight you every day. </bio>

Today's world surely produces more stressed out people than in decades past. The growing demands of family, career, and finances converge to render us overwhelmed by stress. How to know if you are stressed varies depending on the person involved. What may produce stress for one person may be just considered typical everyday activities for another.

Listening to your body closely is the best way how to know if you are stressed. Stress produces a variety of physical and emotional manifestations that are hard to miss if you are vigilant.

One way how to know if you are stressed is to examine how you are sleeping. If you have trouble falling asleep, are restless once asleep, awaken often in the middle of the night, and/or have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, stress may very well be the culprit. It's hard to shut off our days simply because the lights have gone out.

Another way how to know if you are stressed is if you are experiencing the variety of physical symptoms that are identified as stress related. High blood pressure, stomach problems, chest pains, increased heart rate, headaches, lowered sex drive, and a myriad of other physical signs can be stress related. If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms it's advisable to see a medical professional; your body is trying to tell you something.

Additionally, emotional manifestations are another way how to know if you are stressed. Having bouts of depression, the inability to concentrate, anxiety attacks, and a loss in interest in normally enjoyable activities could all be associated with stress. In short, anything that varies from your normal behavior or temperament should be monitored closely.

How to know if you are stressed can be difficult sometimes; simply because the very thing that we're looking for has the ability to render us foggy and indecisive. Stress can be extraordinarily dangerous. When high levels of stress are consistently present in our lives -- long term rather than just a stressful event that soon passes -- are bodies tend to succumb to the pressure. As a result, we suffer physically, emotionally, and even socially.

However, there are many steps you can take to battle stress appropriately. Increasing daily physical exercise has an enormous effect on stress -- bringing stress levels down and relieving the body of tension. It may be trite but relaxation is the best way to lower stress. No matter what is going on in your life, it is imperative to take time for yourself. If you don't give your body and mind some intermittent downtime you are going to burn out; no one person can operate on high levels of stress indefinitely. How to know if you are stressed? Listen up. Because your body is telling you everything you need to know. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about stress management visit our ezGuide 2 http://ezguide2.com/category/stress/ </bio>

Stress and anxiety are probably involved to some extent in a great many of the causes for clients coming for hypnotherapy.

Working with clients for hypnotherapy in High Wycombe and surrounding areas I notice that stress and anxiety are everywhere and can cause many problems if ignored. Relaxation exercises, and other stress management techniques can be very helpful in overcoming stress and anxiety caused by everyday life.

Self Hypnosis is also very beneficial and hypnosis downloads such as www.double-powered-hypnosis.com can be of significant help.

Due to a variety of socio-economic conditions, stress has now become more widely recognised by both individuals and employers. People in the UK lose several thousand days of work not to mention great personal anxiety that can lead to marital discord, depression, panic attacks and many other problems.

At The Mind Works we offer a comprehensive stress management programme using Hypnotherapy in High Wycombe and around the counrtry for both individuals and corporate clients to help with stress and anxiety in an immediate way and also to offer long term strategies.

Effective stress management takes in various therapeutic models and tailors a programme to include not just dealing with the presenting stress but to also help clients to avoid reaching high stress levels in the first place. Hypnosis can help with stress by;

• Teaching relaxation techniques and relaxation exercises, thereby developing new ways to relax naturally (the relaxation response instead of the stress response).

• Positive thinking can help with panic attacks, anxiety and fears.

• Creating an understanding of stress using cognitive techniques and the reasons for stress and addressing those stress factors on different levels giving an understanding of the individual nature of stress and creating positive outcomes for the future.

Remember stress and anxiety can cause problems in very clever and unhelpful ways. One of the best ways to combat stress is to exercise but then who wants to exercise when dealing with stress. Although I use Hypnotherapy in High Wycombe I also work with clients around the country and utilize additional therapeutic interventions. <bio>Terry Doherty is a world renowned Hypnotherapist and life coach.
Stress on the job is a part of the rat race. Trying to problem-solve, working in large groups in open spaces, and sound levels: the list of demands on us is endless. Stress can affect all aspects of life; it can lead to heart disease, anxiety attacks, high blood pressure, and burnout.

All of these problems are a catastrophe for both employer and employee. The sacrifice both have invested into the working relationship can lead to distressing results for both sides of this equation. Hypnosis can reduce stress in the work place and lead to greater performance and healthier employees.

In the workplace stressful situations are difficult to avoid. Business must go on and often under time constraints and pressures to succeed. It is impossible to avoid stress, so it becomes necessary to cope with it. Despite its reputation, not all stress is necessarily a bad thing. Using hypnosis to deal with anxiety and stress can help separate the good from the bad.

There is a difference between what is known as eustress and chronic stress. Eustress is the positive stress, which makes us strive for greater achievement. It is the feeling you get, just hours before the deadline, that drives the project all the way home. This is the kind of stress an employer and an employee can utilize.

Chronic stress is the type of stress that can complicate a work environment and bring down a whole team. Unlike eustress, chronic stress does not kick-in only in necessary situations. Instead it develops when the lows and lulls in-between stressors become fewer and fewer.. It is this type of stress that often expresses itself physically in the form of anything from weight gain, to depression, to ulcers.

Chronic stress is a problem often dealt with my treating the symptoms. A sufferer may be treated with anti-depression pills for their depression and placed on a diet for their weight gain. Hypnosis gets to the root of the problem and can eliminate the symptoms in many cases.

Using hypnosis in the workplace can minimize the amount of chronic stress while allowing eustress to remain a useful workplace tool. Hypnosis gives individuals the abilities to control their stress levels on their own terms. Self-hypnosis, breathing techniques, and relaxation tools can be incorporated into the working environment when the stress-levels get out of control.

The Mind Works offers individuals and employers an extensive stress management programme. The programme is developed to suit the needs of the customer in the immediate and long term. The tools and skills you gain from the programme will provide a toolbox of stress cures for the everyday world of work.

=A9 Terry Doherty =96 www.mind-works.co.uk <bio>Terry Doherty works all over the UK working extensively with individual and business clients helping clients to stop smoking, manage weight, manage stress, become more confident and helping change many other behavioural issues.
These days stress is almost unavoidable and it is a fact that people are not concerned about the causes of stress but they are more inclined towards stress management, stress relief and stress reduction. You cannot avoid or ignore stress in your life. You may be suffering from stress due to various reasons that include work pressure, changing weather, relationships, financial problems and family. It has been found that almost every person is stressed that involves one or more of the above reasons. To achieve stress relief, stress management has become really important.

Stress is not a disease but you should consider this fact that in today's scenario, stress is the root cause of some major health hazards. Depression, acidity (other stomach problems) and even heart attack are rooted in stress. Stress relief will definitely decrease the chances of these ailments.

However, the main question is how? Experts have concluded through experience that the magic of stress relief lies in your own hands. There are many stress management institutions that can help you get relief from stress and let your body and mind relax. There are many toll-free numbers so that you can discuss your problem over phone with the counselors. You will realize in most of the cases that the solution is in your own control. Stress is a very intrinsic ailment so a sense of confidence and relaxing measures can help you in stress relief.

For stress management you can try some of the tips and if they do not help then consulting counselors and doctors is advisable.

1. Work according to your strength: A major reason for stress is that you tend to overload yourself with work. Try and maintain a balance between your rest and work. It will keep you healthy.

2. Take proper diet: Having proper diet is very essential for effective stress management. Lots of fruits and vegetables will be helpful.

3. Exercise regularly: This is regarded as the real solution for stress. When you exercise, you relax your body and mind and this works as complete stress-buster. You can opt for aerobics or join a health club according to your choice.

4. Talk with people: Sharing thoughts with friends and family has always helped in stress reduction. On many occasions you are in stress because there is no-one around you.

5. Meditate: It has become a very popular method of stress management. More and more people are benefiting from this mode as it soothes your mind and relax it completely.

There are different levels of stress and you are a better person to get rid of it as soon as possible. If you think that it has reached an unbearable level and is affecting your health then consult doctors to eliminate the problem and get stress relief. <bio>copyright©2006 http://For-Stress-Relief.com Visit http://www.for-stress-relief.com for more stress management, stress relief and family stress resources. </bio>

Two examples of stress hormones are adrenaline and glucocorticoid (steroid hormones). Some people with diabetes do not have a proper fight or flight response. Insulin does not allow the stress hormones access to the glucose, and so the elevated glucose circulates in the blood. Stress can increase blood glucose levels.

Stress not only increases blood glucose levels hormonally, it also leads to less healthy lifestyle choices. People might eat out more when they are stressed, or they might turn to comfort foods. These less healthy meal choices in turn lead to poor glucose control.

Stress can also affect how much a person exercises. If a person stops exercising, they will be unable to control their blood glucose, just as if they take less care of their diet. Lack of sleep and irregular sleeping patterns can also cause the body stress.

Stress hormones are designed to fight short-term situations. Some stressors in our lives, however, are long-term (such as illness, divorce, or other psychological situations). It is unhealthy to have stress hormones circulate in the body for a long time.

Sometimes it is an aspect of diabetes that can cause stress. If you find an element of your diabetes management is causing you stress, speak to your health care team. They can help support you in your blood glucose monitoring, diet, and with your medication, as well as with your other concerns.

There are many different ways to reduce stress. Although if you are feeling stressed, it might seem impossible to calm down, try to keep some of these relaxing ideas in mind. It might be helpful to write out some of these ideas, or to write yourself reminders of techniques you can use to cheer yourself up.

Try deep breathing. Simply taking four or five deep breaths will help your respiration and circulation enter a more relaxed mode.

Take some time for you. Choose something that is a treat for you: a massage, a crossword, a long walk, and make that extra time to do it. Even if you are stressed, take the time to take care of yourself. Healthy diet, exercise, and time for yourself will dramatically lower your stress levels.

Get your friends and family to support you. If they know that you are feeling stressed, they can help you find ways to cope. If you think you need to, then consult a professional.

Sometimes, reaching out to help a friend will be something that can help you relieve stress. Doing something nice for someone else makes you feel better about yourself, and so can help you feel less stressed. However, don't take on other people's problem. Simply do something small to make their day.

It is the small things that can help you manage your stress. Begin by smiling, which releases endorphins. Try laughing. Hug somebody. These small things which will make your day brighter will also make your diabetes management easier. <bio>Vivian Brennan is the editor of http://www.theguideto-diabetes.com/living_with_diabetes/.
Many of you might not be aware of the fact that stress plays a huge role in influencing weight gain or loss.
Stress Relief - Real Results

Let's take a moment to consider what stress actually is. This is an important first step in the process of stress relief. We must understand the nature of the beast before we can seek to tackle it effectively.

In essentially simplistic terms stress is the opposite of relaxation and as such there isn't much to understand. The real complications arise when we attempt to identify the factors that cause stress and seek methods and techniques to reduce it.

Stress levels require management. A certain measure of stress is useful and indeed it is essential for an enjoyable and productive life but too much stress needs to be avoided at all costs. It is harmful to our physiological and psychological well being and if allowed to get out of hand can lead to a serious threat to health.

In medical circles stress is defined as a range of strong external stimuli, both physiological and psychological, which can cause a physiological response called the general adaptation syndrome. Although it has been part of human make up since the beginnings of ancient man it has only been so described as late as 1936 by Hans Selye in the journal Nature.

Everyday Stressors =96 things that cause stress The factors that cause stress and anxiety are many and varied: =B7Marital and relationship differences =B7Sexual =B7Financial, economic and work related =B7Environmental stressor, such as sound or light levels; overcrowding =B7life changes (e.g. divorce, bereavement) =B7daily stress events (e.g. traffic, lost keys) =B7Workplace stressors (e.g. role strain, lack of control)

There are some simple ways to relieve stress that we can all apply in a moment. Other factors, stressors, may need a little more attention while other things may require a complete lifestyle change.

Have you ever considered that a good night's sleep, something that is so often absent in the modern life, may be all that is required. Indeed, for a moment consider how you feel when you rise in the morning not having experienced a deep, relaxing and peaceful sleep.

Simply aiming for a solid night of eight hours sleep will work wonders for stress levels and is a free for all source of stress relief. For that very reason I will go into greater detail about some ways that just about anybody can experience a night of bliss. Six hours sleep, in most cases will not be enough to adequately relief stress in your life.

Another thing that you can pursue is to tackle those priority tasks first. Get them done out of the way and then you can do the next most important thing =96 get a social life. Take time out for yourself. Start to enjoy your life. Just doing these simple things will bring about a serious and noticeable relief of stress and anxiety in your life.

Have a great life =96 I wish you all the best! <bio>Peter Wellington publishes a free internet resource that will seriously reduce the level of stress and anxiety in your life and help you to break free from the shackles that bind you. http://www.shrinkstress.com </bio>

Many of us have problems with stress and this can sometimes lead to the misuse of alcohol.

If you have a situation that has led you to abusing alcohol and need some ideas to reduce the stress while avoiding using alcohol, Parts One and Two of this article may help.

A little bit of stress is good but too much stress is not. Sometimes we are so stressed out we turn to alcohol and at some point may realize we are having a problem with the overuse of it.

It may be time to think about stress and the effect it is having on you. You may need ways to deal with your stress while staying away from alcohol.

There are many possible problems with long-term stress. Alcohol use can intensify these problems even though the use of alcohol may seem to relax you at first.

The situation becomes difficult and even life-threatening when alcohol is used to an extreme and becomes an addition.

When you are dealing with too much stress you may find that you are having trouble sleeping. You may develop frequent headaches even if they have never been a problem for you before.

Constipation or diarrhea can become daily occurrences and you may also notice that you don't have the concentration you used to have.

A person who is under a lot of stress may experience a greater level of irritability.

Mix this with a moderate or high usage of alcohol and your stress level may become even worse. Your energy may drop off and you may feel sad at times or angry.

The use of alcohol in addition to the stress will not improve the situation.

Eating may become an issue and people often overeat and gain far too much weight or they may not be hungry, eat very little and become too thin.

People who live with too much stress can have high tension levels as well as a higher risk of asthma and arthritis flare-ups.

Depression and anxiety often accompany those who are dealing with too much stress.

When alcohol is used as a way to fix the problem other health issues may arise. Heart problems and high blood pressure can become factors.

Irritable bowel syndrome is another possibility and alcohol consumption certainly does not help this condition.

There are many other ways to handle too much stress. As you can imagine when alcohol is used to alleviate stress the problems may only multiply.

In the second part of this series we will give you healthier ways to handle stress. You can give up alcohol and find ways to make too much stress a thing of the past. You will feel better and be able to live a life free of alcohol. <bio>Discover how to stop drinking alcohol permanently, within 21 days guaranteed For more information go to:http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/ </bio>

In today's world stress is an omnipresent factor. It pervades almost every aspect of modern life.
The latest research has shown that stress not only affects your weight and heart but stress can do a number on your skin, too! That's right. Stress can actually cause rashes, acne and many other blemishes as well.

When you feel stress, your body level of cortisol (stress hormone) rises, this in turn can raise your blood sugar. Higher blood sugar levels are, in turn, correlated with increased skin aging. It is believed that, the next step leads to sugar molecules attacking your skin's collagen and elastin. Acne and other skin blemishes result from high blood sugar levels. Of course, your levels of epinephrine soar when you're in stressful situations. That particular hormone is associated with decreased blood flow to the skin, which can make your complexion appear dull and give you dark circles under the eyes. Also, the skin barrier is compromised due to stress and in turn leads to decreased protection from harmful outside irritants which help hold moisture in your skin. This can eventually lead to allergic reactions, rashes, acne and other blemishes.

What Can Be Done?

In graduate school we often discussed ways in which to decrease stress. Many of the answers that came out of our class have stuck with me and perhaps they can be of assistance to you to:

Get plenty of sleep. The average adult should get between seven and eight hours of sleep a night.

Eat a well balanced diet. Try to incorporate all of the important nutrients and vitamins into you schedule. Perhaps the best plan is to eat light periodic meals, every two to three hours is a good start. You may also consider going on a low fat diet.

Pray/Meditate. Take care of yourself spiritually. Do the things that you need to in order to nurture the whole self.

Exercise. A good thirty minute brisk walk will do it. Remember not to think about stressful events while you are exercising otherwise this will defeat the purpose. It is also important to remember to burn fat while exercising.

In closing, let me remind you that you are the only one in control of your stress levels. Sure, there are many external forces vying for you time and talents but ultimately only one person can choose to deal with the pressures of life in a healthy manner. That is you. My hope is that you feel less stress as a result of reading this blog not more, hope it worked. Good Luck. <bio>Del Erben M.A., has been working in the Health Care industry for the past 15 years.
