Nearly every kitchen has three big problems - how to get more storage space, how to get more counter space and how to make the kitchen look fantastic. Luckily all three of these can be solved with one simple piece of kitchen furniture - the kitchen island.

Just because your kitchen doesn't already have a stationary island that matches the cabinets doesn't mean that you can't make use of this convenient kitchen device. There are plenty of islands that you can buy which are both portable as well a stationary and can blend into kitchen and make it look great. You can buy them in all types of cabinet finishes including white, black and stainless steel and with a variety of countertops even ones to match your existing kitchen. An island can help your kitchen look great by adding some pizzazz to a big open area as well as creating a gathering spot for you to sit at or prepare food.

It seems like there's never enough storage space or counter space no matter how big your kitchen is and an island can solve both of these. You get the extra counter space on top of the island and some even have pullout sections that can add even more prep space. In addition, you can have cabinets shelves and drawers which can add to your storage space.

Kitchen islands come in a large variety of sizes and you want to choose one that works for your kitchen. What you need to do is figure out where you would want the island to go and measure that area. Then decide how much room you need to walk around the island and buy an island that is sized to fit inside that area and leave the required walking space. If you want an island to be in the middle of the kitchen only at certain times but you feel that it will really take up too much room at other times, you can get one that has wheels and simply wheel it away when you want the extra space. Islands for the kitchen come in sizes that are under 25 inches to over 56 inches so there's sure to be a size for almost every kitchen.

Here are some other things to think about when choosing an island for your kitchen:

Drawer space - if you need extra drawer space then you want to pick an island that has plenty of drawers. You can get them with big drawers, or little drawers, lots of drawers or just a few drawers. Figure out what you need and get the island that suits your needs.

Shelf Storage - islands can come with open shelves or closed storage shelves with cabinet doors. Do you want some open shelves to display some of your better looking kitchen items, or are your pots and pans such a mess that you need to hide them away? Think about this one you are looking at islands and buy accordingly.

Counter Top Material - the counter tops on your kitchen island can be made from a variety of materials and you may even be able to get something that matches your current counters. Other popular tops include butcher block, granite and stainless steel which really go with everything.

Bells and Whistles - when buying your island you might want to think about the extra bells and whistles you want such as hooks to hang pots and pans, a hanging knife rack on the side, towel racks and slide out counter top extensions that pull out much like the leaves on a table and give you additional working space when you need it.

A kitchen island is a great thing to add to your kitchen, and if you choose the right one, it can help enhance your decor while providing you with extra work area and more storage. <bio>Lee Dobbins writes for http://www.a-kitchen-decorating-idea.com where you can learn more about decorating your kitchen and get tips and tricks on how to decorate for less. </bio>

If the appearance and styles of tools and materials have gradually changed and evolved over the years, so did the terms that were used to refer to such. In the case of antique furniture, much of the terms that were used in the early ages are no longer used in today's everyday language. As such, many find it hard to understand the usual furniture terms that seemed so common decades before.

However, if one needs to purchase antique furniture, it is therefore essential for him to be aware of the common terms that are used in the antique trade and industry. Some of which are as follows:

Chests of Drawers: The Highboy and the Chiffonier

Both are actually forms of drawers that differ in length and appearance. The Highboys are those high chests of drawers which are higher than wide. Such also have bases which are legged.

In the case of the Chiffoniers, these are chests of drawers that are also high but definitely narrower than Highboys. Chiffoniers do not have legged bases and there is usually a swivel mirror that is attached on its top drawer. Such types of storage antique furniture were highly popular during the colonial periods where house designs and styles had little closet spaces.

Dish Storage: The Buffet and the Sideboard

Both refer to storage furniture which you can usually find in the home's dining area or kitchen. They are usually used to keep pieces of dishes and serving utensils.

Apparently, the buffet is only smaller than the sideboard, but both basically have the same function and appearance. They have drawers were the dishes can be stored, as well as a flat surface above the storage space. The flat surface usually serves as an area where food can be prepared, displayed and served. Most buffets and sideboards also have display shelves and mirrors.

Classic Closets: The Armoires and the Wardrobes

Both appear to be huge closets or cabinets that add storage capacity for clothing. The main difference between the two furniture pieces lies in their original purposes or functions.
Basically, the armoires refer to those free standing closets where armor is stored. Such were invented during the medieval times when war was almost an everyday routine. As for the wardrobe, it was basically designed to store clothes and other little personal tools.

Aside from the functionalities, most armoires appear to have more well decorated features than wardrobes. Wardrobes also have more streamlined and more modern designs than those that appear on armoires.

The Hybrid Cabinet: Chifforobe

Chifforobes are considered as the prime example of furniture that has storage spaces but will fit small bedroom during the medieval times. Such pieces of furniture offer a combination of the features and the functionalities of the chiffonier and the wardrobe. A chifforobe is basically a two-door furniture item that contains a closet and a chest of drawers.

Usually, the right door of the furniture opens a cabinet where clothes can be hanged while the left door opens a chest of drawers where folded clothes or other personal belongings can be stored. Some chifforobes also have swivel mirrors on the flat surface of its top drawer.<bio>Driscolls Antiques is a leading supplier of quality antiques and antique furniture.
With more and more people moving to the city, apartments and condos are getting smaller and smaller to accommodate all the people migrating in. It's not uncommon to find bedrooms a quarter of the size they used to be. Living rooms blend into dining rooms and there just isn't as much space in the kitchen as there once was. This can be a major problem for people who have a lot of stuff and are used to having the space to store it.

But never fear, there are ways to make the most of a small space. You just have to be a little creative with the space you have. Here a few tips to help you make the most of a small space:

1. Buy storage-friendly furniture. There are many items you can buy that have hidden storage in them. Coffee tables that open up into a trunk, beds with drawers underneath, end-tables with drawers and shelves, TV consoles with DVD storage underneath. These types of furniture will provide a home for your things while keeping them hidden from view so you don't have to look at a lot of clutter.

2. Make use of the space under your bed. If you don't have built in drawers under your bed, you can pick up some cheap plastic containers that are made to fit under beds. You can store out of season clothing here to make room in your closets, or store other things that you don't use every day.

3. Use your closet space. Closet space may seem limited, but you can optimize your closets. Make good use of the space above and below your clothes by adding a shelf for your shoes. Fold your sweaters and put them on the top shelf or simply use it as storage. The floor of your closet can also be used to store boxes.

4. Think small. Many stores sell storage units that are made to go in small spaces. You can buy narrow shelves that are meant to go in tight spaces in kitchens. These are good for storing canned or dried foods.

5. Use the walls. One place that many people don't think of to use as storage is the wall space. You can easily mount a spice rack to the wall in the kitchen. You can also mount shelves to the wall to store books or family photos.

6. Feng Shui. It might sound cheesy, but this ancient Chinese practice can really make a huge difference in the way a small space feels. By using feng shui principles to arrange the furniture in each room, you can make a small space seem larger and more homey.

Keep in mind that in order to make your new home feel spacious and clean, it's important not to have a lot of clutter around. Using these ideas will help improve the amount of storage space you have and help make your new home be a pleasant place to live. With a little creativity you can easily make your new home a clutter-free place and organized place to be.<bio>Lorne MacInnes is a managing partner of Ferguson Moving and Storage, one of the oldest Vancouver moving companies, and an industry expert in the moving and relocation sector in North America.</bio>

There are many storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping. These options can be chosen because of their price range, storage capacity, and whether the storage options are digitalized or made of cardboard. The value that people place on their photographic endeavors, lead them to spend more money, than is necessary at times.

The storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping can be simplified if you have the funds to purchase a digital storage box. This storage device will hold up to 100 GB of photographic images and cut down on the number of memory cards that you will need to keep in your camera bag. These digital storage devices are small and easy to keep in the camera bag to use when your digital camera runs out of memory.

Other storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping are based on sentiment. There are media and photo keepsake boxes that you can buy that will let you protect your photographs from dust and dirt, and these keepsake boxes are see-through containers that allow you to see what's inside anytime you like. These are great for storing photographs or over 32 CDs or DVDs for a long period of time.

Some of the more stylish storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping are the photo boxes with the multi-frame lids on them. These storage boxes are finished in a walnut grain and feature six photo frames in the lid that you can display your favorite photos in. These storage boxes are perfect to use as wedding gifts or hold other special occasion photographs that you might have.

If you have large photographs to store, you might find storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping that are not only colorful, but are manufactured or built to hold photographs that are sized up to as 8 x 10 photographs. These digital camera photo storage boxes are generally a transparent color that will allow you to view the contents whenever you like. The bright colors in these storage boxes make people want to use them for other storage needs too.

Some storage options to consider while digital phone camera shopping will keep you in tune with your family budget plan. There are storage boxes available that typically cost under $6 and are available in various colors that can be used for other storage projects throughout the home. For storing photographs though, people like them because they will hold 1100 photographs in each one. People will buy these boxes and place family names on them for family album projects in the future.

There are some very creative storage options to consider while digital photo camera shopping too. People not only have the photo storage options opportunities in some storage boxes they find at major furniture retailers, but they also have photo boxes that have stackable drawer features that can be used in family rooms. These stackable drawers are roomy and are a perfect way to end clutter in many rooms of the house. <bio>Daniel Smith writes about http://www.photocameradeals.com </bio>

There is a broad array of choices available in the market that matches your needs.

Storage cabinets are basically used to organize, store, and secure materials. These materials generally encompass jewelleries, documents, gadgets, clothes, firearms, and the like. Storage cabinets provide the best way to avoid clutter in your homes and office. You can select from a large range of storage cabinets available.

There are many types of storage cabinets that feature different materials and designs. These cabinets also differ on their functionalities and intended purposes. Aside from ready-made storage cabinets, there are also custom made cabinets which can be assembled based on your needs and space requirement. Storage cabinets are categorized into kitchen cabinets, office cabinets, bathroom cabinets, bedroom cabinets and many more.

In offices or workplaces, it is essential to use storage cabinets. Offices require a well organized system so that it would be trouble-free to locate things. The filing cabinet which is frequently made of steel is the most common office cabinet. This is employed for lodging pertinent documents. While most offices use computers, many companies still require the need of a hard copy of files so there is still a necessity for filing cabinets. There are also hanging cabinets that can be securely mounted on walls. These cabinets are advisable for companies with small spaces. Most office cabinets come with locks for safety measures.

Storage cabinets utilized in bathrooms are chiefly created from durable materials and are water resistant. These cabinets usually have small sizes just enough to accommodate bathroom essentials such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shavers, creams, shampoo, etc. However for larger bathrooms, storage cabinets are much bigger and feature drawers which can hold towels, stocks of toilet papers, and other bulky bathroom essentials. Typically, bathroom cabinets have large mirrors, too.

Storage cabinets for the kitchen are a combination of shelves and drawers. The drawers are used for storing spoons, forks, kitchen linens, knives and small kitchen utensils. In contrast, the shelves are used for bigger kitchen essentials like cooking pans, plates, baking ware, containers, and blenders. Kitchen cabinets should be spacious enough to lodge a lot of kitchen essentials.

Bedroom storage cabinets are made of either wood or hard plastic. These cabinets are normally a blend of drawers and large compartments. They accommodate bulky pieces such as bed sheets, pillow cases, and extra pillows. It is also vital for bedroom cabinets to be tall enough to store wardrobes.

Recently, modular resin storage cabinets became among the favourites in garage accessories. The resin used is a synthetic polymer and has the attribute of strength and stability. These types of cabinet can also withstand heavy pieces in your garage including mechanical tools, spare parts, etc.

When shopping for a storage cabinet, it is crucial that you first identify the type and design as well as how big is the cabinet you exactly need. It helps to conduct an inventory of the items you plan to hoard in your cabinet. In this way, you can avoid acquiring one that is not able to accommodate all the items you wished to store. You need to consider the space where you plan to put the cabinet, too. It is best to make necessary measurements prior to purchase.

In buying a cabinet, it is recommended to opt for storage cabinets that have adjustable shelves. Adjustable shelves are highly functional and can be customized according to the storage requirements. With this feature, you can easily modify your cabinet if you have more items for stocking up in the future. Instead of investing on very large storage, you may choose to buy small or medium sized cabinets. Cabinets with these sizes can be arranged throughout your home and you can put in some decorations or display things on top of them.

Also, invest on the one that is durable enough and can practically last for many years. You may also want to consider choosing a storage cabinet that will acceptably blend with the already existing furniture that you have. You do not want to end up buying a cabinet that will look awkward with the rest of the interior of your house. Choosing a storage cabinet for your need maybe difficult but with careful planning and considerations of the above mentioned factors, you will surely have the perfect cabinet you precisely need.<bio>For more information on Best Storage Cabinets please visit our website.</bio>

Dining rooms were once spacious, elegant examples of dining design. They have been gutted and, frequently combined with other rooms, leaving you unaware f where the living room ends ad the dining room begins. If you are fortunate enough to have a separate dining room and not just an area, what follows are some tips for storage.

There are two basic furniture requirements in a dining room: a table with chairs and a display cabinet for special occasion china and cutlery. If you are pressed for storage space, utilize the available furniture as much as possible or replace it with more functional and adaptable pieces.

A skirted table can hide a myriad of things. For this trick, you'll need a tablecloth that goes to the floor. You can cover the table with something simple or layer it with different length cloths. One time conscious person has suggested you multi-layer the table with several of your linens. When one is used, you remove it to reveal another layer. This serves two purposes: a storage place for your linen and as a means of keeping them wrinkle free. If you adopt this practice, remember to cover the good linen with a see through plastic covering to protect it and all the layers from spills.

Another possibility to decrease the amount of wrinkles and increase storage space is to attach a dowel to the back of a cabinet or closet. It makes for easy accessibility while minimizing creases and lines.

Another means of turning the dining room table into extra storage space is by returning to an old-fashioned kitchen table style.

Old-fashioned table had the cutlery drawers built into them. You pulled them open and you had easy access to the necessary knives, forks and spoons. To adapt your current table, attach one or more shallow drawers to the underside of the table, making sure they do not rub against or hit the knees of anyone sitting at the table. These can be used to store the cutlery, linen and other items used regularly at the dining room table.

Also to be considered for possible storage purposes is the china cabinet. This structure may be free standing or part of a larger unit with drawers. Make sure you use every inch carefully. If necessary, clear it out, sort everything, discard nonessential and extraneous material or items, and replace the items. Add or build extra storage units within the larger unit if you feel it can help in the fight to achieve maximum storage capacity.

Do not forget to look up. See if there is any room above the cabinet to locate tasteful baskets or boxes filled with stuff you are not currently in need of using.

Another viable way to store material is by building shelving units. These can be placed unobtrusively around the room or in obvious places. You can display some objects in plain view while you covertly hide others in the background.

There is one thing you should really remember when finding or creating storage in any room of your house, including the living room. Try to make sure the items stored in each room =96 excluding garages or attics, pertains to that room and that room alone. <bio>Hunter Pyle wrote this article to talk about creating some storage space in your dining room.
One of the main complaints of today's homeowners is that there is never enough storage space in the kitchen. If you are thinking about remodeling your kitchen, now is the time to add that all needed extra storage. There are so many beautiful and creative storage solutions incorporated into today's cabinets, that just about any need can be met.

And that's where you start: determine what bothers you the most about your storage lacks in you present kitchen. Think about how your family uses the kitchen. Do you cook a lot, or just heat up? Do you have friends over frequently?

Next step, go to as many home centers and kitchen showrooms as you can to get ideas. Browse magazines and on the net to find out what the latest and greatest storage ideas as being installed in modern kitchens. Start a file with pictures, ideas, layouts.

If you are designing a custom kitchen, you will have a designer who can assist you in the types of storage that you may need and that are available.

Here are just a few of the wonderful space saving, convenient and efficient storage solutions that you will learn about and be able to choose from:

-An appliance garage to keep your small appliances handy but out of sight (and clean)

-A lazy Susan for spices, condiments and other items you may want handy as you cook. It makes use of a corner of the counter top that is otherwise wasted.

-Glass cabinets that show off the contents if you have lovely dishes or glasses. This should be limited to one or two, since you do want to be able to hide a lot of items as well.

-A wine rack that is built into one of the cabinets. You can display your vintage wines, and you can have a wine rack with a door that will keep the bottles safe.

-A bookcase for cook books. This can be installed into an upper cabinet, or into the walls of a kitchen island.

-Specialized spice drawers, especially good for gourmet cooks. They can be installed under the cabinets, or in a special narrow pull out cabinet.

-Pull out garbage cans under a counter. Some people like to have two: one for garbage and one for recyclables.

-Carry cases that can hold all you cleaning supplies together and can be pulled out and carried around when needed.

-Drawers and cabinets with custom designed dividers for the kind of items you have in the kitchen. For instance, you can have tall sections to place pizza pans, cookie trays, serving platters.

-Special racks to keep all your storage needs in such as foil, plastic wrap, sandwich bags and garbage bags

-A knife storage rack that pulls down from under a cabinet. This has two important benefits. You don't have to reach into a drawer to get a sharp knife and risk injury, and children cannot reach the knives.

-Drawers with partition separators to organize all of your utensils, kitchen gadgets and general "junk". It keeps everything neat and accessible instead of piled on top of each other.

-A pull down cookbook rack. This attaches under a cabinet and is out of site when it is not used, but keeps the cookbook handy at eye level and away from cooking splatters when you are using it.

As you can see, there are so many storage ideas to choose from, that you just have to determine what is most important to you and your family, and you can make your kitchen a dream place to be because of its organization and efficiency. <bio>Johnathan Bakers published primarily for http://www.kitchen-cabinets-tips.com , a website with topics around remodeling and refacing.
Ah, the family room, a scene of togetherness and communal living. It is a room of heavy traffic, of much activity and, unfortunately, with the potential for massive amounts of clutter. The family room is, also, frequently a place where storage is at a premium. You need storage and more storage, but how to find it and locate it in this functional room.

If you are in the planning stage of your house, consider built-in units: entertainment centers, book cases and similar helpful items. This will make storage of various related items easy. Consult your planner and see if there is enough storage space to accommodate you and your family's needs in this area.

This does not, however, help you out if you already have a house and your growing family and their increasing accumulation of articles and discarding of others, requires you to find more storage space.

One suggestion is floor-to-ceiling storage built-in storage. Build or buy cabinets with flush doors and touch catches that stand flush against the walls. Paint them the same color as the walls to help them blend in.

If a unit already exists, consider using the areas atop. Reach up high and store, there, out-of-favor or seasonal items. If using the very top, avoid frequently needed items. Store only those least requested or used.

Another possibility is to combine two furniture selections in to one multi-functional piece. Instead of a table, consider one that doubles as storage space. Some coffee tables have an extra shelf beneath them, some are able to have one added, but a better choice is a trunk or chest. It can do triple duty as a table, work space and storage facility. If company arrives, you simply whisk everything into the trunk, close the lid and cover it with a decorative cloth or piece of fabric.

The same principle can be applied elsewhere in the room =96 and throughout the house. At the end of a sofa or chair, place something more functional than a mere end table. Select something practical - one that has a closed base with drawers or shelves.

A small chest of drawers can conceal phone books, toys and games without interfering with its function as a lamp or book holder.

If there is a desk in the family room make sure it is fully utilized it. Is there room at the top to place a shelving unit? Can a small storage unit be slid beneath it without interfering with its set function? Better yet, purchase one with space to locate such items.

If you have a game table, select on that folds or replace it with the chest or trunk model. A folding table can be stored quickly out of the way behind a couch. A chest, as noted above, is a perfect way to put all games and puzzles except for the one in current use, out of the way.

There are a few other possibilities within the choice of furniture. Consider benches instead of sofas. Padded, pew-like benches can provide a unique look to a family room. They also act as storage units, swinging open to provide ample space to stow away any number of items.

These are but a few suggestions on storage solutions for a family room. With a little bit of ing=E9nue, perhaps abetted by various design programs and periodicals, you are sure to come up with a few of your own. <bio>Hunter Pyle wrote this article to talk about creating some storage in your family room.
Let's face it, there's a whole host of children's beds out there on the market, and as a parent, you might be feeling a little confused about which type of bed to choose to suit both your child's needs and the size of their bedroom. Read on to learn about your options to help you choose.

1). Single bed without storage

Buying a single bed that does not have underneath storage (often called a truckle drawer) is probably best if your child's bedroom is a decent size and storage is not an issue. The good thing about buying a bed without underneath storage is that these types of beds are often very attractive, without the thinly disguised, and often bulky, drawers underneath.

2). Single bed with storage

A single bed which has storage underneath is obviously good for small rooms, or for children that have lots of toys. Underneath storage provides a great space saving option, and there are plenty of styles on the market that look fab too. There are also beds that offer the option of a pull out bed in place of where the drawers would be. This is great for when children get older and are more likely to have friends sleep over.

3). Novelty beds

Novelty beds are often aimed at the very young market, for toddlers who are about to sleep in their first proper bed, rather than a cot bed. Children will normally be at an age where they would find a novelty bed shaped in a car, a fairy or a ship to be exciting! This will encourage them to stay in their own bed and not migrate into your bed, now that they are not constrained by the high bars of a cot.

4). Bunk beds

Bunk beds are the ideal choice for siblings that are close in age and share a room, or for children that are likely to have friends or cousins coming to sleep over as they get older. Bunk beds are great space savers if children share a room, and there are styles on the market that can be disconnected and made in to two single beds, which is a great option for when children get older and perhaps "grow out" of the idea of sleeping in bunkbeds. When choosing a bunk bed, make sure you pick one that is sturdy. It is sometimes better to pay a little more where bunks are concerned, to ensure that they are super sturdy. Pine bunks are often pretty solid, as are those made out of metal.

5). Midsleepers
Midsleepers are an option reminiscent of secret camps, and I've yet to meet a child that didn't get excited by a midsleeper! They often come in themed style, and the high quality midsleepers are renowned for their comfortable mattresses.

Whatever the bed you choose for your child, have fun choosing it because it can make the difference between tantrums at bedtime or a smooth night's sleep.<bio>Rach Eden writes in association with Compare4kids, a website for comparing childrens bedroom furniture from the UK's top online retailers.</bio>

When most of us think of an apartment we automatically think of a small space often occupied in a city. Apartments are not necessarily small but they do require some additional consideration when it comes to providing enough storage solutions and furnishing the space. For better or worse our society is most certainly not at a loss for renovation resources; it seems that every other television program or magazine article has something to do with home design and d=E9cor. So when it comes to apartment remodeling ideas there are quite a few resources to which to turn.

Apartment remodeling ideas often focus on maximizing storage capabilities in a sometimes space challenged area. Such storage solutions often help to streamline the design of the apartment and minimize clutter. Some of the ways in which storage can be provided in apartment living is by making use of normally underused areas. For instance, a bed that has storage units underneath of it =96 such as drawers or baskets - can make use of a normally cluttered or unused space. Additional storage space can be created with creative uses of baskets, closet organizers, and shelves that can be both decorative and functional.

Other apartment remodeling ideas include using each space for a dual function. For instance, a family room area can double as a sleeping area for guests with the addition of a pull out sofa or futon; a dining area can double as a computer work space with the inclusion of a versatile table with storage space underneath; and an entertainment center that houses your television, DVD player, and stereo equipment can also house several drawers of clothes. Keep versatility in mind when purchasing furniture =96 tables with secret compartments that can hold extra things such as board games and CDs; flip-top benches for seating as well as storing extra blankets; and nightstands with plenty of drawer space. Every piece of furniture should combine form and function.

Apartment remodeling ideas to help open the space and add light and warmth to your living space include using neutral paint on all the walls and using artwork, pillows, and linens to add splashes of color. Don't settle for minimal lighting =96 use lamps and ceiling fixtures, and walls sconces to provide ample lighting in all areas of your apartment.

A small living space is a challenge not an obstacle. If you are creative and look for inspiration through apartment remodeling ideas - that can found in books and through online resources =96 you can transform your space into a versatile, functional, and livable space. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about apartment remodeling ideas visit our ezGuide 2 http://remodeling.ezguide2.com </bio>

When buying a van, one of the most important things to consider is what the van will be used for. If you are going to be hauling a lot of raw materials with it, then you will definitely want to make sure that your van racking will not get in the way of your much needed floor space. However, a contractor with a vast array of tools will require a more complicated system to keep everything organized. Let's explore some options. Van racking systems range from simple to complex, inexpensive to very pricey. Most include simple shelves constructed of steel for durability, many have support to fit over the wheel. These shelves can be plain, or be angled with several different compartments to fit smaller things. All of these have a ledge in the front to keep everything in place and prevent things from sliding off during the drive. Other options include adding special cabinets or sliding drawers or bins. The removable bins many time are plastic, while sliding drawers and cabinets are most commonly constructed of steel. The installation is done by a professional, and most van racking systems include steel strips running down the center of the van's wall which the units are secured to. You can choose one unit or a combination.

Like racking, workbenches are very handy to those in professions who work on the go. Maybe they are working in a very expensive house and want to avoid making a mess, or are in an urban area and do not have the space necessary to get things done outside the vehicle. Many mobile repair persons may find this useful as well. Benches can be extremely expensive, and include a bench-top as well as several drawers and cabinets underneath to hold important tools that you need right away. These are often best installed by a professional, and sometimes the retail price does not include that. Make sure you ask beforehand to avoid an unpleasant surprise in the end. Storage boxes are probably the least expensive option for your van. Though made popular by their high visibility in trucks, these are great for those who have larger tools and would like to keep them invisible while inside the vehicle. Great for urban areas.

No special installation is usually required, and they can be simply bolted to the van floor to keep them from being moved. You can also purchase customized storage boxes to fit your vehicle, though this is not as common in this option. People who purchase these options usually only need one or two, as unlike cabinets or racking, they can not be stacked vertically. Now that you are aware of your options, you can purchase your van racking with confidence, knowing what is available. Whether you choose a complicated racking or workbench system, the correct choice will be sure to benefit you for years to come. Weigh your options carefully, and be sure to choose something that works for all situations, especially in the future.<bio>Big Dug is your one-stop-shop for all your shelving, racking and storage needs.</bio>

If you want to add a dramatic decorative element to your kitchen, consider installing a kitchen island. Besides the beauty and interest an island adds to a kitchen, it will add work space and storage space. This is usually one of the biggest complaints by homeowners, the lack of room to prepare meals, and shortage of storage space. An island solves these problems and can even add extra seating and eating space to a kitchen. You can add a grill or sink for added convenience in the kitchen.

Most islands are basically tables that are a bit taller than an eating table. Even the most basic kitchen island will add extra space for the preparation, serving and eating of meals. Adding a special touch or two will bring an interesting design into the room. You have to put cabinets under it to get additional storage space, however.

The storage space that can be built into an island can suit your owner needs. Extra drawers, cabinets, big open spaces for large appliances; whatever your storage needs can be addressed. Many custom built islands include such luxury features as an extra sink, an extra cook surface (a grill or burners), warming ovens, small refrigerators, etc. YOU can even put a dishwasher under the kitchen island. Adding specialized surfaces such as granite or butcher block make meal preparation easier. You can combine any and all of these features for you own unique kitchen island.

There are even multi level islands to add further flexibility and customization to your choices. A higher level may contain an additional sink or cook surface, with a lower surface for serving meals. These kitchen islands are usually larger in size to accommodate the added uses.

Since there is such a variety in the size of kitchen islands, you have to choose the one that will fit best in your kitchen. Measure the area where you want to put the island and put a piece of furniture or some boxes to emulate the amount of space that will be used. This will help give you the visual impact of the island. Try leaving them for a couple of days, walking around them to make sure the space is workable.

You will need at least three feet on each side of the island for a walk around area. You want to have plenty of room to turn and use your regular counter space and appliances. When measuring, make sure you open all of the appliances, cabinets and drawers in your kitchen to make sure you have enough room.

If you don't have the proper amount of space for an installed island, you might think about a portable one. These islands come with wheels and can be moved when not in use. This way, you can gain the additional workspace you need without losing critical movement space in your kitchen. These, of course, will not allow you to add and special features such as a stove top or a sink to them, although they often have some storage space. <bio>Focusing on informating about cabinets, Peter Wilson writes at large for http://www.kitchen-cabinets-tips.com .. His writings on kitchen islands can be encountered on http://www.kitchen-cabinets-tips.com/islands.html and other web sites. </bio>

Constant innovations in these seemingly simple products have made drawer slides an important part of many storage and access applications.

There are multiple benefits of using drawer slides for the specifier or designer, the cabinet fabricator and installer, and for the retailer.

For the specifier or designer:

Modern interiors now call for sleek design that also takes into account health and safety regulations for the retail employees and the customers. The new touch release or push-to-open slides allow the drawer to be opened using gentle pressure to the front of the drawer- no need for handles or knobs that could cause snag or bump hazards.

Soft closing slides have made a move out of the kitchen drawers and are now widely available as side mounted slides for wooded drawers. This has an important impact on installation times. It is sensible to source drawer slides with disconnect features so that the drawer and cabinet members can be installed quickly. Adjustment features for drawer leveling are additional time savers.

For the retailer:

Smooth movement in display and storage drawers enhance the feel and quality of the environment and a reliable product is important for hard-working retail environments.

Drawer slide features such as dampened soft-close and hold-in mean that the drawers close cleanly and stay closed for aesthetics and safety. Access and movement functions required for retail display, such as drawer locks, roll-out shelving with hold-out, pull-out keyboard supports, easy to access trolley baskets or simple disconnect features for drawers can be delivered using a drawer slide.

These points are important factors for the shop worker who needs to be able to work efficiently and display goods effectively and have easy access to stock.

So when it comes to store fixtures, a carefully chosen telescopic drawer slide can mean the difference between a hazardous work area and an attractive, unobstructed walkway or display.<bio>Accuride has evolved from beginnings in the 1960s making drawer slides. Accuride is now at the forefront in the design and manufacture of access and movement.</bio>

Finding storage in your home can be a challenge by itself. But finding storage in your kids room can sometimes seem impossible! Fortunantely there are many storage choices available today to make the task possible.

Furniture: Youth single bunk beds offer more space and storage then traditional beds. Units usually come with a bed on top and storage space below that include a desk with lots of drawers. Also included is a hutch with shelves for storage space that help organize clutter and provide space for a computer and video game. These multi units reduce the need for additional furniture and allow space for book shelves or other accessories that can be used for storage.

Other furniture storage ideas to look for are toy boxes that can hold toys, bench style chairs or window seats that include a storage area underneath the seat.

Closets: Probably the most useful and convenient storage space in a child's room. Use of wired shelves can double for storing boxes, toys, games and other items while allowing space to hang clothes. Hooks on the ceiling or walls help keep items off the floor.

Hanging closet organizers are perfect for storing seasonal clothes, or holding sweaters, shoes, and accessories on extra deep shelves. Bins, boxes or crates can hold many loose items or toys and are space savers when stacked on top of each other. If your child is small, put the things they can get themselves down low. By making it accessible, they will be able to put things away more easily.

Shelves: Need a great solution for displaying all those knick-knacks or trophies? Install shelves, side by side, around the perimeter of the room, a few feet below the ceiling. You will have yards of space for lots of storage and give your kids room a finished looked.

Recessed shelves are another great idea to create storage. By building shelving units in between studs in the walls, you can gain additional storage space for your children items, while not sacrificing space.

Underbed Storage: An often over looked area when looking for space. When combined with flat boxes or drawers, items such as board games, legos, etc, can be organized and stored while accessible for your kids. Many length and styles exist that can make use of this valuable storage space.

Bins: Also known as cubby units that comes in a variety of styles and shapes. Bins can be stacked, mounted on walls, or stored in closets. Mobile bins also exist that allow you to move them out of the way or allow you child to take them from room to room, while keeping their favorite items organized.

Hooks: Many styles exist for hooks such as trellis style hooks, shelves with hooks, and over the door hooks. For more style, choose wooden peg racks which can be painted to match the decor of your kids room. Hooks are a good solution to hang up book bags, coats, or anything that you kids imagination will dream up!

Cork Boards: Need a place to hang up those book reports or paper notes, find cork and make your own pattern or design. By breaking the traditional style that bulletin boards are known, you can design an easy but simple way to organize the paper clutter. Spell you childs name, or create a random pattern and watch that pile of paper disappear.

Many solutions exist to help keep you childs room organized. Look for ideas that blend in to the room and do not stand out, while being functional. Keeping storage for kids rooms simple and accessible, will provide an easy way for them to clean up at the end of the day. <bio>To discover more storage ideas for kids rooms visit http://www.homedecoratingbooks.2clixs.com for our great selection of home decorating books and ideas. </bio>

Get your home improvement projects off to a better start and finish with good organization =96 from the get-go. With organization, you can have everything you need for your project at your finger tips, all in one central location. Plus you'll be able to work from start to finish without wasting precious time, energy and funds looking for and replacing things (instructions, tools, nails, blueprints, measuring tape, etc.) for your projects. So get ready, here are some helpful tips on how to get organized with your home improvement projects.

Basic Organizing for Your Tools and Projects

Your mission here, should you decide to accept it, is to set up a central information and storage where you have everything all in one place. This system does not need to be expensive and fancy; it just needs to work =96 for you.

Start by looking around your home environment for a place to set up your organizational headquarters; a shed, basement area, garage area, barn or other out building, for example. And in no particular order, begin working on your organization there with the following main points of focus:

- Establish an information center for all of your documents: work orders, project plans and blueprints, receipts, equipment instructions, etc. If can be an old metal file cabinet or toolbox with drawers, sturdy wipe-down plastic carrying containers that you can stack, an old chest of drawers or some odds and ends shelving units.

- Then using the storage space, insert files and folders for your project materials brochures, instructions, receipts, bids, etc. The results will be all your info in one main place for handy, convenient access round the clock.

- Set up an area for your continuing training and other educational materials: books, how-to videos, audio cassettes, home improvement magazines, helpful articles copied off the Internet, guides, reports and other learning materials.

- Insert some small boxes or other types of storage containers to hold small tools like pencils, pens, note tablets, rulers, tape, glue, tape measures, etc.

- Then arrange your equipment in larger surrounding storage units, shelves, cabinets, bins, and on wall hooks. Check out organizational aids at local hardware stores and stores like Wal-Mart or Target or wholesale / discount centers for good buys.

By planning ahead, you'll be ready for your projects from start to finish. The time you save looking for things and the money you save on buying duplicate items (because you can't find them), can them be invested in your projects =96 or more fun tools and storage equipment! <bio>For more info and a free newsletter visit: http://myhomeimprovementtips.com </bio>

When it becomes impossible to simply hang another shelf or to buy another piece of storage furniture, it is time to look into a personal storage option at a storage rental facility. Renting space at such a facility is wonderful for keeping seldom used items out of site and out of mind. They don't clutter your home, office or flat space, irritate your spouse or your flat mates or force you to deal with shifting items around in a constant attempt to organize your space.

People have been storing things out of site and away from their living spaces for years. Storage units have become much more sophisticated than they used to be, and as a possible home storage solution, they remain a good one. In the UK, the amount of home storage units has increased over the years and they offer a lot of benefits for anyone strapped for extra space. Many storage units feature (sophisticated climate control -- remove), closed circuit video security, coded gates and advanced fire safety controls. Some, like Kangaroo Self Storage, also offer free unlimited access and extended trade hours along with item pick up, delivery plans and removals. Additional features are also available like professional assistance with archival document storage. Off site storages now present many different features that make the benefits of storing household items in a professionally run facility quite obvious.

If you are considering renting some home storage space, you should first think how much space you will need and how much you are willing to spend. Of course, the more space you will need, the more you will feel a slight constriction of your pocketbook, but at whatever your budget and comfort level, there are ways of making the most of your rental unit. Here are a few tips for good utilization of your home storage unit:

• Label everything before you lose track of it to ensure speedy storing as needed.

• Store large items like furniture in the back of the unit and utilize empty cupboards and drawers to hold small items.

• Choose a location close to your work, home or flat for quick trips. You'll make these more often than you think you will, especially at first.

• Create a pathway through you storage space so you can access everything easily.

• Place frequently needed items at the front of the unit.

Self-storage is an inexpensive way to meet your increased storage needs. Over time, you will find many things that are best stored in your storage unit rather than clutter up your home. Seasonal things like garden furniture or tools are perfect candidates along with unused sports equipment or excess odds and ends from the garage or work shed.

When your select us for your home storage needs, you can rest assured that your possessions are safely kept and in good hands.
The best way to organize your office and run it more efficiently is to set up a good filing system -- file cabinets can help you do this, but simply running out to your local office supply store to pick up some cabinets isn't necessarily going to solve all your filing dilemmas. It's important to make a selection based on more than just the number of drawers -- there are other factors to consider, such as office space, size of your documents, and quality of construction.

The filing cabinet you are probably most familiar with is the vertical file cabinet. This type of cabinet usually has 2 to 5 drawers and can house letter or legal size documents facing the front of the drawers.

For an office that lacks wall space, vertical file cabinets are most likely the ideal choice. Vertical file cabinets don't hold as many files, but they don't take up as much wall space and offer drawer sizes between 15 and 28 inches.

The lateral file cabinet is another choice. With more width than traditional filing cabinets, they give you the option of storing files front to back or side to side in the drawers. Because they're not as deep as vertical cabinets, you can also use them as wall partitions or credenzas.

This type of filing system offers more flexibility because you can store legal and letter size files in the cabinet at the same time -- vertical file cabinets only hold one or the other. Overall, lateral cabinets have room for more documents.

What to look for

To find quality file cabinets that will last a long time, you have to look for a few specific features. In the first place, take a look at the drawers' suspension system. Make sure that the drawers can open and close smoothly even when filled with the weight of many files.

Safety is also a concern when it comes to choosing high quality file cabinets. Cabinets with a mechanism designed to discourage tipping when all the drawers are open is an example -- look for counterweighted drawers and internal locking devices that only let you open one drawer at a time.

If you plan on making good use of your file cabinets, it's better to spend a little more money up front for durable cabinets than to keep dishing out every time you have to replace a damaged unit. Higher grades of steel are thicker and more durable, which means cabinets constructed out of this material will be able to endure more usage over a longer period of time.

File cabinets are essential if you want to organize your office and improve time management - they are definitely a worthwhile purchase. <bio>By Katerina Mitrou sponsored by http://www.officefurniture2go.com/ who sells quality office furniture such as desks, file cabinets: http://www.officefurniture2go.com/ and more.
If you are in the kitchen a lot, you really appreciate any features that will make your kitchen chores easier. If it's a feature that makes life easier plus looks beautiful, you can't ask for more. One sure way to make kitchen work easier and add beauty to your kitchen is to install a kitchen island. You know that meal preparation is more difficult when you don't have enough counter space, so adding an island will automatically add counter space. It also helps in organizing your chores, since you can keep items separate. The beautiful choices in counter tops for islands will really add to the looks of your kitchen. You can choose from many materials, from butcher block to glamorous granite; there is a choice for you in there somewhere. You will find the added workspace that you will obtain from a kitchen island a tremendous value, and when you are not using the space for food preparation, your island counter can be a breakfast counter.

Just choose kitchen stools that will fit under the ledge in a style and color that complements your kitchen. The kids can have a snack, your visiting neighbor can have a cup of coffee, or hubby can have a cocktail while you get dinner ready and catch up on your day. Kitchen counters come in all sizes and shapes. You can design one that will fit the existing dimensions of your kitchen perfectly, since you can make it square, long or rectangular. Design an island that will go with your existing cabinets and counter tops, or follow the new style and make it contrast a bit. The kitchen island can be used to solve a lot of your kitchen space and storage problems, since you can put the drawers and accessories you need in it, or you can leave wide spaces open to store large appliances. Some homeowners have incorporated a wine rack or a book shelf into the side of a kitchen island!

You will be amazed at the benefits a kitchen island will bring to your kitchen. They are a very stylish addition, but they are really very practical as well, since they add so much work space, storage space and make food preparation easier. You can design it any way you want to suit your tastes and your needs and you will enjoy all of the features you can put into it, such as the additional drawers and other storage features. You don't have to spend a fortune on a kitchen island. There are choices that are really reasonable and that still give you all the benefits of the most expensive ones. Look around on the Internet and compare prices. If you forgo some expensive materials such as granite, you can find a lot of great looking choices that will not break the bank. There is a wide range of choices in terms of materials and features, so you can mix and match until you find the one that suits you best but is still in your price range. <bio>Concentrating on informating about cabinets for your kitchen, Johnathan Bakers pens almost entirely for http://www.kitchen-cabinets-tips.com .
Making your own labels can be both fun and rewarding. Check out some of the creative ways that labels can be used around the home and office:

On clothing -- Is your child going to summer camp this year? Why not make some special cloth labels (complete with name, of course!) to attach to his or her jackets and pants? Any fabric store will have tons of possibilities for you, and you can stitch or glue your special name labels into the apparel. Of course, your children will protest ("Oh, Mom!"), but it's better than having their laundry lost!

On cabinets -- Do you have storage cabinets in your basement or garage or in your office at work? Instead of trying to guess what's inside every time you're on the hunt for an object, you can label them (such as "Karen's scrap booking materials" or "extra pantry items"). Use one of those great little labelers that you can find at any office supply store -- they print onto clear labels and look very professional if you choose to use them at your business.

On canned goods -- Do you frequently "put up" jars of peaches, tomatoes, or other goodies? Labels are especially useful for you because you'll be able to sort them with ease. You'll also know when to throw things away or when to enjoy them for dinner! Finally, those labels will make your food items look a little "classier" should you turn them into holiday presents. (And everyone loves getting a little homemade something!)

On the backs of photos -- If you have a computer printer, you can print off many labels at once without spending a fortune on the supplies. This means that labeling family photos will become a simple process. All you have to do is type once, then print off as many as you need. Sure beats writing on the backs of the pictures (which can sometimes bleed through to the other side of the paper.)

On drawers in kids' rooms -- If you have a number of storage drawers in your kids' rooms, you might want to use labels so both you and they know "what goes where." For instance, one drawer could be labeled, "Blocks", and the other, "Stuffed animals". It'll make it much easier at the end of the day, because everything will have "its place."

On storage bins -- Practically everyone has unmarked bins in the attic, garage, closet, or crawl space. Take some time to affix labels to those boxes and you'll quickly be able to find holiday decorations, baby clothes, and nostalgic memorabilia in a jiffy. No more rooting around for hours!

Inside of books -- If you come from a big family or you lend out your "library" often, why not attach labels to the inside jacket of your books? It'll be a nice reminder to the "borrower" to return it to its proper owner.

Again, how you use labels is up to you. Use your imagination and even ask the kids to get involved. Make it a fun process, and invest in this time saver. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for DR Labels which is an excellent place to find labels links, resources and articles.
The American kitchen is busier than ever. We prepare our meals, eat and clean up in a hurry. In such a busy place, organization is key to keeping everything running smoothly.

Just like the office, your kitchen should be organized. If you've never organized a kitchen, it can seem like a daunting process. In such chaos, knowing where to start might even look impossible. Thankfully, there are some simple procedures that you can follow to keep your kitchen clean, tidy, and well arranged.

The first thing you can do to subdue chaos in your kitchen is to identify zones within the space. A kitchen zone is an area where you perform the same task over and over, such as preparation of food before cooking, baking, serving, storage, or cleaning. Once you have designated these zones, it's easy to optimize that part of the kitchen for the activities it plays host to most often.

When you embark on a major organization project, be sure to plan ahead. Don't take everything out of the drawers and cabinets unless you know that you have a block of time to be devoted to the project. Invest time in deciding what appliances and supplies will end up in what location. If you have a plan for your kitchen ahead of time, you won't be as likely to feel lost in the middle of your reorganization project. Consider your habits, the flow of traffic through your kitchen, and what appliances you use most often when planning your new kitchen. Then systematically remove everything from the kitchen and sort all items into categories.

You can then go through each category and choose items you want to keep and ones you want to discard. Items that you do not use often should be stored towards the back of the cabinet, or on top, to allow easy access to ones you use more frequently. If you have a hard time remembering what you keep in your drawers and cabinets, consider posting an inventory list on the inside of the doors. Another handy tip is to keep a grocery list on the inside of a cabinet door or on the refrigerator, where you can add to it easily when you think of something that needs to be purchased.

If you have trouble with forgotten items clustering at the back of your cabinet, try installing a Lazy Susan. These turntables will help you easily bring items at the back of the cabinet into view. Specialty organizational tools such as paper bag storage, turntable spice racks, and racks to hold plastic wrap and aluminum foil are available. These can help to save space and alleviate mess, but too many of them or ones purchased without forethought will contribute to clutter. Planning and careful consideration are of the utmost importance when organizing your kitchen. In addition, routine maintenance of the kitchen will lessen the need for major reorganizations. If you keep the amount of clutter in the kitchen low, your job will be easier in the long run. <bio>Hunter Pyle wrote this article to give some tips and ideas for organizing your kitchen.
