<content:encoded><![CDATA[Even after having a stomach stapling only about thirty percent of patients will achieve their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ideal+weight" rel="tag">ideal weight</a> as categorized by the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/body+mass+index" rel="tag">body mass index</a>. This goes to show that stomach stapling is a last resort measure intended to save your life, not make you look superstar thin. Althought there are some patients who achieve this after they have their stomach stapling. If you work out and stick to your new diet you have every chance of being one of that thirty percent. <br /><br /> On the up side eighty percent of those that undergoe <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling+surgery" rel="tag">stomach stapling surgery</a> lose weight. This is the reason stomach stapling is widely used and considered effective. People that couldn't lose weight for years prior to the surgery finally begin to see results after having their stomach stapling. On average the patients who have surgery lose about sixty percent of their overall previous body weight. For many this is the lifesaver. They are still considered overweight according to their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/bmi" rel="tag">BMI</a> but they are healthy, able to move around and often find that they lose previous medical problems. These problems can be, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/high+cholesterol" rel="tag">high cholesterol</a>, and muscle and joint pain. <br /><br /> Though you should remember that a portion of those that underwent a stomach stapling and lost excess weight regained that weight in three to five years of their surgery. This is likely due to falling back on old dietary habits, such as eating high calorie foods, and returning to a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sedentary+lifestyle" rel="tag">sedentary lifestyle</a>. Stomach stapling may not always work and give the patient good results. If a patient doesn't continue to follow or use their dietary guidelines that their doctor or nutritionist provides they will regain weight. The stomach stapling is a tool that's part of what you need in order to change your life. This is an important <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/thing+to+remember" rel="tag">thing to remember</a> when considering stomach stapling surgery. <bio>Read more <a href="<a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.info">http://www.stomach-stapling.info.</a>/sitemap.html"><a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.info">http://www.stomach-stapling.info.</a>/sitemap.html</a> and <a href="<a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.info">http://www.stomach-stapling.info.</a>/stomach-stapling-info-index.htm"><a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.info">http://www.stomach-stapling.info.</a>/stomach-stapling-info-index.htm</a> or visit our <a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.info">http://www.stomach-stapling.info.</a>. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[After you have your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling+surgery" rel="tag">stomach stapling surgery</a> your surgeon or doctor may have told you that you will lose weight at a fairly rapid pace. Many find that they lose their weight within the first year. The years after this may find them losing some weight, but it will mainly be their job to simply maintain the new body weight that they've achieved. <br /><br /> The stomach stapling surgery does come with many risks and complications. You could develop an infection. You could actually die. About one half to one percent of all stomach stapling patients die during or after the surgery. Plus there is the chance that you may need to have surgery at a later date in order to fix a complication that has come up. Sometimes the bands around the stomach slip or wear through the stomach lining. Sometimes the patients <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/staples" rel="tag">staples</a> tear lose and need to be replaced. <br /><br /> Also due to your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/rapid+weight+loss" rel="tag">rapid weight loss</a> after years of being obese you may find that your skin begins to hang down on your body. There may be a lot or a little bit of sagging skin depending of a variety of factors. Your speed of weight loss. Whether or not you are being very active. Your age can even affect this. If you are younger your skin will have an easier time shrinking and will thus shrink faster than if you are older. <br /><br /> Most people with loose skin will find that their skin shrinks back eventually though it may take up to a year. Sometimes it becomes very inconvinent and uncomfortable for people and they look into skin removal surgery. <br /><br /> Skin removal surgery is sometimes referred to as '<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/body+contouring" rel="tag">body contouring</a>' or 'body lift' surgery and involves the removal of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/excess+skin" rel="tag">excess skin</a> hanging down from your body, which can leave scars but this is othen considered an easy trade. <bio>Read more <a href="<a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/org" rel="tag">org</a>">http://www.stomach-stapling.org.</a>/sitemap.html"><a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.org">http://www.stomach-stapling.org.</a>/sitemap.html</a> and v or visit our <a href="http://www.stomach-stapling.org">http://www.stomach-stapling.org.</a>. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[There are several types of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obesity+surgery" rel="tag">obesity surgery</a> available to those wishing to undergo the procedure. All of which have some level of permanence, meaning that you won't be able to fully reverse the obesity surgery once you go through with it. <br /><br /> The most commonly known form of obesity surgery is gastric bypass, also known as <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling" rel="tag">stomach stapling</a>. This procedure involves removing a large portion of the stomach from itself via a stapling device. The remains of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+pouch" rel="tag">stomach pouch</a> are attached to a portion of the lower intestine. <br /><br /> Another well known procedure is the lap band. This is a less invasive form. The doctor places a ring with an inflatable section around the upper portion of the stomach. The ring has a tube attached to it that ends with a port that the doctor can easily access to inflate the ring and gradually reduce the stomachs capacity. <br /><br /> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/biliopancreatic+diversion" rel="tag">Biliopancreatic Diversion</a>, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/duodenal+switch" rel="tag">Duodenal Switch</a> is a more involved surgery which consists of removing two thirds of the stomach and attaching the end of the stomach to a lower portion of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/small+intestine" rel="tag">small intestine</a>. The part of the intestine which was bypassed is still attached to the duodenum and its end attached to the small intestine where food is now routed to carry <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digestive+juices" rel="tag">digestive juices</a> to the area. <br /><br /> The Long Limb Gastric Bypass is similar to the above except that doctors will attach the portion of small intestine containing digestive juices further down in the intestinal tract so that the food and digestive juices have even less time to mix. <br /><br /> There is a form of Gastric Bypass known as the Fobi modification. A normal gastric bypass procedure is modified by the placement of a firm ring of material around the new stomach pouch. <br /><br /> Other types of obesity surgery are vertical banded arthroplasty (rarely used anymore), Jejuno-Ileal Bypass, and Gastric Pacing. <bio>Read more <a href="<a href="http://www.obesity-surgery.biz">http://www.obesity-surgery.biz.</a>/sitemap.html"><a href="http://www.obesity-surgery.biz">http://www.obesity-surgery.biz.</a>/sitemap.html</a> and <a href="<a href="http://www.obesity-surgery.biz">http://www.obesity-surgery.biz.</a>/obesity-surgery-biz-index.htm"><a href="http://www.obesity-surgery.biz">http://www.obesity-surgery.biz.</a>/obesity-surgery-biz-index.htm</a> or visit our <a href="http://www.obesity-surgery.biz">http://www.obesity-surgery.biz.</a>. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[It is alarming to note that more and more people are getting obese these days. Studies have found that <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obesity" rel="tag">obesity</a> is primarily caused by people's increasing and uncontrolled appetite for food. <br /><br /> However, most of the food sold in the market nowadays is processed; almost all the essential nutrients are replaced by substances that contribute to the accumulation of harmful fats. Thus, as long as people take in more processed food, more and more cases of obesity would be reported. In the United States alone, it is estimated that seven out of ten kids under 12 can be categorized as obese. <br /><br /> The figure in the global scale can even be depressing, because the trend in food production tends to be inclined more towards food processing. <br /><br /> Moreover, so many different and innovative procedures and diet-activity programs are being introduced nowadays to curtail the problem pertaining to excessive weight. <br /><br /> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ear+stapling" rel="tag">Ear stapling</a> <br /><br /> During the first half of 2006, many <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/weight+loss" rel="tag">weight loss</a> aficionados tried the wonders of ear stapling, which, as sources claim, significantly helps one to lose weight. Many figure-conscious individuals in the United States have flocked to clinics and shops offering ear-stapling services. <br /><br /> What is ear stapling? Ear stapling is the process when a staple is inserted in the ear, at the area near the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/acupuncture+point" rel="tag">acupuncture point</a> for the stomach. The area is on the cartilage near the hole of the ear. <br /><br /> The process is almost like <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ear+piercing" rel="tag">ear piercing</a> and acupuncture. The stapling procedure would hurt like an ordinary ear piercing. <br /><br /> Many people who have tried the procedure claim that ear stapling really works. Most of the ear stapling recipients report losing a few pounds within only two to three weeks. <br /><br /> >From the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/anecdotal+evidence" rel="tag">anecdotal evidence</a>, it appears ear stapling is truly an effective measure for weight loss. That may give credence to the procedure, but not formal test yet has proved its effectiveness. <br /><br /> How ear stapling works and dangers posed <br /><br /> Since the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ear+staple" rel="tag">ear staple</a> is placed near the pressure point that is linked to the stomach, people assert that the procedure triggers a significant loss in appetite. <br /><br /> There are reported cases, however, that indicate a direct physical effect. There are reports that since the staple is put in the ear cartilage, it causes pain when the person opens the mouth and chew food. <br /><br /> If the appetite is not lessened, the pain caused by the chewing activity makes people not want to take in food anymore. Thus, the person with an ear staple would drastically lessen food consumption. <br /><br /> Another potential problem would arise from infection. Since ear stapling creates a wound, improper handling and unhygienic procedure would certainly lead to accumulation of bacteria and other microorganisms in the small wound. <br /><br /> The problem of infection can be serious and even fatal if the would remains untreated. Thus, the weight loss regimen becomes a trigger for other medical condition. <br /><br /> Experts warn people against jumping into the bandwagon. They recommend that obese people simply follow normal eating and exercise programs instead of relying heavily on such non-conventional weight-loss strategies. <br /><br /> People should also be wary of who would perform the simple stapling operation since the ear area is very sensitive and some other pressure points might be pricked, causing adverse body reactions. <br /><br /> Do not perform the activity by yourself or ask a friend to do it for you. If you can't resist trying it out, at least seek help from medical practitioners who are experts in piercing or creating minor wounding activities. <br /><br /> Do not compromise your overall health by just hoping to yield results from a minor procedure that is not yet tested to help reduce weight. <bio>ProShape can help kickstart your weight loss. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Deciding the type of Bariatric surgery to have and choosing amongst the many <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obesity" rel="tag">obesity</a> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/doctors" rel="tag">doctors</a> available, can be a daunting task. Bariatric surgery options include the Roux-en-Y <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastric+bypass+surgery" rel="tag">gastric bypass surgery</a>, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/laparoscopic+gastric+bypass" rel="tag">Laparoscopic gastric bypass</a> surgery and the Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, also known as the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+band" rel="tag">Lap Band</a>. The latter surgery (Lap Band) has only just recently (since June of 2001) been approved to be performed here in the United States, and thus, not too many obesity doctors in the U.S. are familiar with it. <br /><br /> Although still new to the United States obesity doctors, the Lap Band procedure is well known to many doctors in Mexico and Europe. This procedure is the least invasive of the bariatric surgeries and poses less risk and complications. It doesn't involve any stapling or cutting and is performed as a laparoscopic procedure. <br /><br /> Unlike the Gastric Bypass and other <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/weight+loss+surgeries" rel="tag">weight loss surgeries</a>, the Lap Band system does not involve any cutting or stapling of your stomach. The end results are less pain, less of a hospital stay and fewer risks and side effects. With the Lap Band you are at a low risk of nutritional deficiencies, compared to the Gastric Bypass and other procedures. It is the only obesity stomach surgery that is fully reversible and it is adjustable to allow for individualized restriction for long-term sustained weight loss. <br /><br /> Choosing Amongst The Obesity Doctors <br /><br /> Choosing an Obesity Surgery doctor is a very important decision. This person is the one who will help provide guidance as to what type of medical treatment you need. It is therefore important to select a doctor who is qualified and who will meet your needs. There are various important factors to consider when selecting a doctor such as expertise in procedures and medical philosophies that shouldn't be ignored. <br /><br /> As mentioned, many doctors in the United States aren't as familiar with the less invasive Laparoscopy procedure of the Lap Band. This should cause you some hesitation when choosing to have such a procedure performed by a doctor in the United States. You may be better off choosing one that has expertise in the procedure and is known to have performed it regularly with success. <bio>Sanoviv provides alternative and complementary health care, obesity surgery, lap band surgery, bariatric surgery and more with advanced diagnostics and holistic procedures. <content:encoded><![CDATA[There are many <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/surgical+procedures" rel="tag">surgical procedures</a> that are available to help you lose weight and combat any obesity problems that you might be having. The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling" rel="tag">stomach stapling</a> procedure is definitely one that has been in the news a lot, but it is terribly invasive and can actually be dangerous to perform because of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/massive+amounts" rel="tag">massive amounts</a> of tunneling in your stomach that is required for it to be effective. Taking stomach stapling out of the way, the other two major candidates for surgery include <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+band+surgery" rel="tag">lap band surgery</a> and gastric <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/bypass+surgery" rel="tag">bypass surgery</a>. These two surgical methods can be compared on multiple fronts.<br><br>Cost<br><br>Since everything in the world tends to revolve around money in some way, shape or form, it is important to compare these two surgical procedures in terms of their cost. Gastric bypass surgery is a very complicated procedure that requires specialized knowledge and instruments that are very delicate and perfectly crafted. With all of these things taken into account, the resulting cost for the surgery is very high. Lap band surgery on the other hand does not require knowledge as specialized to perform and the lap <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/band+instrumentation" rel="tag">band instrumentation</a> is a lot cheaper than the tools used in the gastric bypass surgery. This means that lap band surgery in the end is quite a bit cheaper than gastric bypass surgery.<br><br>Permanence<br><br>Gastric bypass surgery, for all <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/intents+and+purposes" rel="tag">intents and purposes</a>, is a permanent thing. It is possible to change back whatever was done to you during such a surgery, but at the same time it is also important to realize that gastric bypass surgery is something that corrects a problem permanently. It is a permanent fix to a current problem. Lap band surgery on the other hand is really more of a treatment than it is a cure. Rather than changing things to make you feel better, its goal is to work with you to get better, at which point it can be removed. Gastric bypass surgery is therefore a lot more potentially life-changing in a negative way than lap band surgery would be.<br><br>Maintenance<br><br>For gastric bypass surgery, you have essentially signed your surrender against the current condition you are in. This means that in addition to this permanent change of surgery, you are also going to have to commit to a strict diet and a lot of exercise, as well as regular visits to the doctor to have your surgery monitored. With lap band surgery on the other hand, you can make any needed adjustments yourself and therefore allow yourself to go from an inactive and unhealthy lifestyle to one that is healthy and active at your own pace. Changes can be gradual and trips to the doctor are greatly reduced.<br><br>Conclusion<br><br>On the three major issues of cost, permanence and maintenance, it is quite clear that lap band surgery knocks the pants off its gastric bypass counterpart. It is simply a better procedure in so many ways that the only logical conclusion that can be reached is that a lap band procedure is much better.<bio><a href="http://www.lap-band.biz">Lap Band</a> is a highly popular and comprehensive web site that offers information on Obesity, weight loss and <a href="http://www.lap-band-toronto.ca/slim-band-toronto/">Slim Band</a> surgery.</bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[As the modern age of medicine continues to bring forth <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/miracle+after+miracle" rel="tag">miracle after miracle</a>, there are many new procedures out on the market that greatly improve how the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/medical+profession" rel="tag">medical profession</a> works. One of these procedures is known as lab band surgery and it has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of success stories around the world. Not many people are aware of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+band+surgery" rel="tag">lap band surgery</a> but if you happen to be someone that is interested in getting your weight loss methods to finally work, lap band surgery is most definitely something that you should pay attention to.<br><br>The Procedure<br><br>The procedure of lap band surgery is one that does not take that long to perform. Through actual surgical processes, a band is installed into your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/abdominal+cavity" rel="tag">abdominal cavity</a>. This band is actually placed around your stomach and then tightened so that your stomach volume becomes lower. When your stomach volume becomes lower, it means that you will have a smaller appetite at each meal that you eat and each meal that you eat will therefore be smaller. In the long run, consuming less food will lead to better weight loss, allowing you to keep the weight off because of the fact that you are not eating as much.<br><br>The fact that the lap band operates on such a simple principle of weight loss is probably what has contributed to the massive amount of success that it has had during its short tenure as a recognized surgical procedure.<br><br>Features<br><br>The first thing that is worth pointing out about the lap band surgical procedure is that the lap band actually does work. It constricts the amount of food that you can eat at one point and it forces you to improve the way that you eat so that you can get the nutrients necessary for life in a smaller amount of food. This in turn leads to better <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/nutritional+decisions" rel="tag">nutritional decisions</a> which after a couple of weeks become <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/second+nature" rel="tag">second nature</a> to you. The end result is a much better diet and faster weight loss at which point it will become clear that the band has done its work.<br><br>Another interesting thing to point out about <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+bands" rel="tag">lap bands</a> is that they can actually be adjusted. Unlike conventional weight loss procedures that changed the size of the stomach, the lap band procedure is very easy to change since most of the lap bands actually come with adjustment meters that allow you to change the tension in the band on your own without the assistance of a doctor. Unlike all of the other surgical procedures involving stomach alterations, lap band surgery is also completely reversible in a safe way. If you were to get a stomach stapling procedure, reversal would require careful operation in a consistently life-threatening environment and for that reason most doctors will not even bother attempting it and refuse you the request.<br><br>Conclusion<br><br>You may not have heard of lap band surgery before, but there can be no question that it is definitely one of the more promising surgeries to undergo should you wish to lose a lot of weight.<bio><a href="http://www.lap-band-toronto.ca">Lap Band Toronto</a> is a highly popular and comprehensive web site that offers information on Obesity, weight loss and <a href="http://www.lap-band.biz">Lap Band</a>.</bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/obesity+surgery" rel="tag">Obesity surgery</a> is a serious decision to make if you are obese and wish to lead a healthier life. There are many complications that can occur in addition to the benefits. For example, if you have <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling" rel="tag">stomach stapling</a> done you may pop a staple at some future point after the surgery. If you get a band it could slip. Either way you'll need corrective surgery. <br /><br /> Beneficially your stomach will be much smaller in size and unable to hold as much food, which in turn should allow you dramatic weight loss. Just because your stomach is smaller doesn't necessarily mean that your appetite will be smaller after you recover. Some <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/people+find" rel="tag">people find</a> that initially their appetite is dramatically reduced but after their bodies heal from the surgery old habits return. This can be especially difficult if you are used to eating quickly and ordering large amounts of food. <br /><br /> You should write a personal note to yourself or several copies of the same note that say something to the effect of 'Remember to chew slowly and pay attention to how much food you are eating.' After an obesity surgery you will fill up very quickly and can <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/inadvertently" rel="tag">inadvertently</a> make yourself sick. <br /><br /> It is possible to find ways to cheat on your new weight loss plan and thus regain your weight. One of these is simply to 'graze' all day. Even if you can only eat small amounts at a time you can still gain weight if you constantly eat tiny portions of high calorie foods during the day. This is unfortunent and a common occurrence in patients with whom the obesity surgery doesn't take. <br /><br /> Also continuing a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sedentary+lifestyle" rel="tag">sedentary lifestyle</a> will hinder your efforts. Its important to start and stay active. One way to stay active and a suggested way for obesity surgery patients is walking. <bio>Read more <a href="<a href="http://www.obesity-surgery-<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/diary" rel="tag">diary</a>.com">http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com.</a>/sitemap.html"><a href="http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com">http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com.</a>/sitemap.html</a> and <a href="<a href="http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com">http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com.</a>/obesity-surgery-diary-com-index.htm"><a href="http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com">http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com.</a>/obesity-surgery-diary-com-index.htm</a> or visit our <a href="http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com">http://www.obesity-surgery-diary.com.</a>. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Was your latest bout of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+flu" rel="tag">stomach flu</a> really the stomach flu? Or was it some other virus that found its way into your intestines? Kid get sick and throw up all the time -- is it always the stomach flu? Actually, it is probably not. It turns out that what most of us think of as the stomach flu is really something else, a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastrointestinal+virus" rel="tag">gastrointestinal virus</a>. The flu is actually a respiratory illness, everyone just thinks that the stomach flu is that horrible sickly <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/diarrhea" rel="tag">diarrhea</a>. Even some <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/doctors" rel="tag">doctors</a> have started calling it the flu, just so people know what they are talking about. <br /><br /> If you have children, then you probably know how much the stomach flu can affect them. In most cases the name of the virus that they actually have is the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/rotavirus" rel="tag">Rotavirus</a>. This is especially common in small children. This is not the only thing that can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Your child could be sick due to some <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/nasty+bacteria" rel="tag">nasty bacteria</a> that found its way in, or even parasites. If your child is ill for more than a couple of days or is <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/running+a+fever" rel="tag">running a fever</a>, it is always better to be safe than sorry, and take your child to the doctor. <br /><br /> A lot of times parents don't want to call the doctor about the stomach flu, but it is okay to if you are worried. That is what doctors are for, to support you and let you know what is going on, so that you don't have to worry about it any more. <br /><br /> The notion that the stomach flu is only supposed to last a day or so is completely off the mark. Most people stay sick with the stomach flu for days -- even a week. It all depends on which kind of stomach flu you or your child gets, because some are just stronger and nastier than others. <br /><br /> Whatever you do when your child has the stomach flu, you need to keep him or her well-hydrated. Lots and lots of water is going to make the stomach flu go away that much sooner, and it is going to keep your child feeling better than they would without the fluids. This is even more important if your child has diarrhea. In this case, it can be downright dangerous if your son or daughter is not getting enough water. You may want to look into getting some Pediasure, as it has the electrolytes your child's body needs when it is dehydrated. <bio>Dorothy Brown writes articles for several web sites, including <a href="http://foraw.com" >http://foraw.com</a> and <a href="http://mowek.com" >http://mowek.com</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach" rel="tag">stomach</a> is one of the parts of the body that receives the harshest treatment and the least appreciation. Think about it. When is the last time you were really thankful that your stomach was working properly? Perhaps it takes seeing a friend or family member who has a rough stomach for us to really be grateful for our stomach health. But it shouldn't. We should be consistently treating our stomach with care so that it can do it's job well without causing us pain. <br /><br /> Being good to your stomach can be simple. Maybe you are already making <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/wise+choices" rel="tag">wise choices</a> for your stomach or perhaps you will have to make some severe <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lifestyle+changes" rel="tag">lifestyle changes</a> in order to really be good to your stomach. Whatever it requires, you should commit to being good to your stomach from this point forward. <br /><br /> What does it mean to be good to your stomach? Basically, to be good to your stomach means watching the things you put into it and the things you do. Surely everyone has experienced the pain of eating a meal that is too spicy or too greasy or too full of acid. Our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomachs" rel="tag">stomachs</a> do so much in the process of breaking down our <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/food+choices" rel="tag">food choices</a>. Many times our stomachs are able to cover up some of our eating "sins," but other times they let us know that we have made a poor choice. I'm convinced that we owe it to our stomachs (not to mention to the rest of our bodies) to make <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/healthy+eating" rel="tag">healthy eating</a> choices that are easy on our bodies and good for our health. <br /><br /> Take some time to evaluate the things you are putting into your stomach each day. Are you being kind or harsh? Do you notice any patterns that could perhaps be harmful to your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digestive+system" rel="tag">digestive system</a>? If so, consider changing them. You only have one stomach, and therefore it requires your upmost attention and care. Different stomachs have different levels of tolerance for spices, acids, and foods. You may not be able to eat everything your neighbor or even your spouse can eat. It is important that you learn, if you haven't already, what is good for you and stick to it. <br /><br /> The great thing about learning to eat based on the reaction of your stomach is that you will end up making good choices not only for your stomach but also for the rest of your body. The chances are high that what is good for your stomach will also benefit your body and your overall health. So be intentional about what you eat and drink and don't hesitate to pass up things that aren't good for you or your stomach. <bio>Rachael Cleipher has learned some stomach lessons the hard way. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ You've been through endless diet regimes, exercised regularly, and sometimes even gone overboard in the hope of losing weight=85and you are still 100 pounds overweight! Maybe it's time to consider <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastric+bypass+surgery" rel="tag">Gastric Bypass Surgery</a>, which is a surgery that limits the amount of food you can take in. <br /><br /> Gastric bypass surgery is a surgical procedure to treat extreme obesity, caused by severe accumulation of excess weight as fatty tissue, which causes other health problems too. As part of the surgery, the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger, lower remaining pouch. Furthermore, the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/small+intestine" rel="tag">small intestine</a>s are also re-arranged to allow both pouches to remain connected to the intestines. In this way, the food intake decreases and the amount of food you can digest is also restricted. <br /><br /> There are two types of surgery. One is called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass which is the most common bypass procedure performed. By this, a small <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+pouch" rel="tag">stomach pouch</a> is created by stapling part of the stomach together; limiting the amount of food you can eat. Next, a section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow the food to bypass into the duodenum. This causes reduced calorie and nutrient absorption. <br /><br /> The second type is called Extensive Gastric Bypass, which is more complicated, as the lower portion of the stomach is removed. The remaining small pouch is connected directly to the segment of the small intestine. While this procedure is very effective in promoting weight loss, it is less used because of the high risk for nutritional deficiencies. <br /><br /> People who have gastric bypass operations have been known to lose around two thirds of their excess weight within two years. However, there are several risks such as having the stomach getting bigger over time and then reverting to its original size before surgery. Sometimes the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/staples" rel="tag">staples</a> that are used to tighten the stomach can break and reverse the procedure. Additionally, there can also be a leakage of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+contents" rel="tag">stomach contents</a> into the abdomen. This is dangerous because the acid can eat away at other organs. Nutritional deficiencies can also cause further health problems such as anemia, osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases; a result of limited absorption of vitamin B12, calcium and iron, and people then have to take nutritional supplements to prevent these deficiencies. <br /><br /> The risk of complications and nutritional deficiencies depends on how extensive the bypass operation is, and requires close monitoring and lifelong use of special foods and medications. <br /><br /> In some cases, post-operative symptoms could include nausea, fainting, weakness, sweating and sometimes diarrhea. Gallstones can also occur as a result of rapid weight loss, although they can be treated with medication. <br /><br /> While weight reduction surgery doesn't guarantee that you will lose all your excess weight or keep it off long-term, a lot depends on your commitment to making life long changes to your eating and exercise habits. However, your weight loss accomplishment and improved overall health are significant benefits, and will definitely be worth the effort. <bio>Further information about Gastric Bypass Surgery can be found at: <a href="http://www.gastric-bypass-notes.info/" >http://www.gastric-bypass-notes.info/</a> and <a href="http://www.ultimate-gastric-bypass.info/" >http://www.ultimate-gastric-bypass.info/</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastric+bypass+surgery" rel="tag">Gastric bypass surgery</a> is a common form of weight loss surgery that results in outstanding weight loss with minimal side effects. But once you undergo the gastric bypass surgery procedure you have to accept lifelong changes in your diet. The post-diet of gastric bypass surgery includes an adequate intake of protein, taking vitamin and mineral supplements including multivitamin, iron and calcium, B12 and avoiding sweets and fatty foods. <br /><br /> Types of gastric bypass surgery <br /><br /> In gastric bypass surgery, the surgeon takes off a large portion of the stomach leaving behind a tiny pouch. It is this small pouch that prevents overdose of eating as it can take very less amount of food. Moreover, with large parts of your stomach and small intestine bypassed, most of the nutrients and calories in the food do not get absorbed at all. This helps the person from gaining excess weight. <br /><br /> There are several types of bypass surgery operations. They are: <br /><br /> §Roux-en-Y gastric bypass [RGB] -- this is a common surgery where a small <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+pouch" rel="tag">stomach pouch</a> is created by stapling part of the stomach together or by vertical banding. This reduces the amount of food to be taken. Then a Y-shaped section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/duodenum" rel="tag">duodenum</a> as well as the first portion of jejunum. This causes reduced calorie and rapid nutrient absorption. <br /><br /> §Extensive gastric bypass [<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/biliopancreatic+diversion" rel="tag">biliopancreatic diversion</a>] -- in this complicated surgery, the lower portion of the stomach is removed. The small pouch that remains connected to the final segment of the small intestine completely bypasses both duodenum and jejunum. <br /><br /> People who undergo gastric bypass surgery always lose two-thirds of their excess weight within two years. <br /><br /> Risks of gastric bypass surgery <br /><br /> Gastric bypass surgery causes "dumping syndromes" where the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+contents" rel="tag">stomach contents</a> move too rapidly through the small intestine. The usual symptoms of gastric bypass surgeries include weakness, sweating, fainting, nausea, diarrhea, as well as inability to eat sweets. <br /><br /> People who undergo this procedure are at risk of: <br /><br /> §Band erosion -- the band closing off part of the stomach disintegrates <br /><br /> §Pouch stretching -- stomach gets bigger overtime, stretching back to its normal size before surgery <br /><br /> §Leakage of stomach contents into the abdomen [acid can eat away other organs] <br /><br /> §Nutritional deficiencies causing health problems <br /><br /> §Breakdown of staple lines -- band and staple fall apart, reversing procedure <br /><br /> Gastric bypass diet <br /><br /> Gastric bypass diet helps the patients to drop 50% to 90% of their overall excess fats. The diet is designed to bring about significant weight loss. It basically includes foods that are high in protein and low in fat, fiber, calories, and sugar. You should have lots of vitamins and minerals. Iron, vitamin, folate and calcium are the best nutrients for patients undergoing gastric bypass surgery. <br /><br /> You can undergo gastric bypass surgery only if you have been obese for at least 5 years, do not have a history of alcohol abuse, and do not possess untreated depression and range between the ages 18 to 65. <bio>Author Barney Garcia is a proud contributing author and enjoys writing about many different topics. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ Obesity is a rapidly growing problem in this country, with more people being extremely overweight now than ever before in history. To combat this issue, a variety of surgical procedures have been developed over the years, including the lap band or gastric band procedure. <br /><br /> When compared to more <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/drastic+measures" rel="tag">drastic measures</a> such as gastric bypass and stomach stapling, the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+band+procedure" rel="tag">lap band procedure</a> is really quite simple. There is no cutting of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+tissue" rel="tag">stomach tissue</a> and the procedure is completely reversible, making it a very popular among those who want a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/drastic+solution" rel="tag">drastic solution</a>, but aren't willing to undergo major surgery to do so. <br /><br /> Basically, a lap band procedure involves placing a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/silicon+band" rel="tag">silicon band</a> around the upper part of the stomach. The band is then inflated, restricting the stomach, much like a girdle and helps the person eat less, but still feel full. The sensation of being full lasts for hours, meaning that less snacking occurs, one of the main reasons the obese become morbidly obese. <br /><br /> This treatment is safer than other similar, yet permanent procedures and tends to work just as well. Over 200,000 lap band procedures are performed every year on a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/worldwide+scale" rel="tag">worldwide scale</a>. Seeking out <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lap+band+surgery" rel="tag">lap band surgery</a> overseas is something that has also grown in popularity in recent years, due to rising medical costs in the US. Many other countries, such as Mexico, offer the lap band procedure for drastically reduced costs, but you do need to consider what you are getting for the price. <br /><br /> In the United States, there are regulations and insurance to keep patients safe, but in other countries, you are pretty much on your own. While the lap band procedure is relatively simple, that doesn't mean you won't have complications, in which case you want to ensure that you are being cared for by experts, in a well-provisioned medical center. That is often not the case when having this surgery overseas. <br /><br /> Another major consideration is the doctor. Are you certain that he or she is a real doctor? In places like Asia and Latin America, it is very common for college dropouts to take on the role as doctor and begin performing procedures that they are simply not qualified to do. Even if you have a trained doctor, he may not be experienced in the insertion of the silicon band, and really, you want an expert working on you in this situation. <br /><br /> That is not to say that there aren't qualified doctor overseas. There are. However, you really need to do your research and make sure that you will be cared for properly during and after the lap band procedure and many people opt to simply have the procedure done in the States, after hearing the horror stories. <br /><br /> In other countries, often, the surgeon is required to pay for his own instruments and any medical items used in the procedure. This lends itself to buying cheaper, lesser quality lap band belts and re-using instruments, many time without proper sterilization. Cost cutting like this can be very dangerous, but it isn't regulated in many overseas countries. You have no idea what you are getting, despite impressive advertising. Overall, it can be a dangerous game to have your lap band procedure performed overseas. <bio>Lap Band is the healthiest solution that helps you end your weight loss problem. <a href="http://www.tlbc.ca" >http://www.tlbc.ca</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ In the last decade, a number of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/medical+advancements" rel="tag">medical advancements</a> have made the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/surgical+treatment+of+obesity" rel="tag">surgical treatment of obesity</a> safer and less invasive. One of the most exciting developments in 1993 was the introduction of the LAP-BAND System, an inflatable ring implanted around the stomach that reduces one's appetite and facilitates weight loss by eating less food. Although the LAP-BAND procedure is the most popular weight-loss surgery around the world, the most commonly performed in the United States is still the gastric bypass. If you are considering a surgical treatment for severe obesity, the differences in the two procedures should be well understood. <br /><br /> Though both procedures require surgery, the approaches are very different. During a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastric+bypass+surgery" rel="tag">gastric bypass surgery</a>, doctors begin by stapling the stomach to form a smaller pouch. Then, by attaching a portion of the intestines to the newly-formed pouch, the remaining stomach and intestines are bypassed, in essence removed from the digestive tract. The result is a drastically smaller internal area for food, allowing the patient to feel satiated more quickly and absorb fewer calories. Though this procedure has evolved in recent years, gastric bypass still represents one of the more <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/invasive+approaches" rel="tag">invasive approaches</a> to weight loss. <br /><br /> On the other hand, the LAP-BAND procedure can be performed without cutting and stapling the stomach. Rather than rerouting the intestinal tract, the LAP-BAND creates a similar feeling of satiety with a simple single inflatable band. The LAP-BAND is surgically placed around the upper portion of the patient's stomach, forming a smaller <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+pouch" rel="tag">stomach pouch</a> similar to the gastric bypass procedure. The LAP-BAND helps the patient feel full with less food intake, but also reduces the appetite by slowing digestion for a natural, healthy weight loss. <br /><br /> While gastric bypass and LAP-BAND procedures represent very dissimilar surgical approaches, the recoveries and extended treatment programs associated with each surgery highlight even greater differences. For instance, in addition to a ten times higher mortality rate1, gastric bypass patients typically remain in the hospital for 2-3 days while most LAP-BAND patients are able to return home the same day. Additionally, most gastric bypass patients will not be able to return to normal activities for 2-3 weeks while LAP-BAND recipients often complete their surgical recovery in 1-2 weeks. <br /><br /> After recovering from surgery, gastric bypass and LAP-BAND patients also experience weight loss differently. Although most patients experience rapid initial weight loss with the gastric bypass, there is no long-term mechanism to continue to maintain the feeling of satiety that can be achieved with a properly adjusted LAP-BAND. The intestinal re-routing of the gastric bypass can also contribute to nutritional deficiencies, many of which require extensive follow-up care. <br /><br /> In addition to a lower risk of complications from surgery, the LAP-BAND procedure also helps patients lose weight gradually and healthily, eliminating the effects of malnutrition. In the months following LAP-BAND surgery, patients tend to experience weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week. They are receiving all the natural nutrients of the food they consume but the portions are significantly smaller as a result of the restriction and satiety the LAP-BAND provides. In order to receive the greatest number of benefits however, it is essential that the LAP-BAND is properly adjusted. This is determined by your surgeon according to your rate of weight loss, the types of food you can consume and your sense of satiety in between meals. It's an ongoing refinement to achieve optimal results based upon your personal experience. <br /><br /> The LAP-BAND also avoids the uncomfortable side effect known as dumping syndrome. Experienced by many gastric bypass patients, dumping syndrome occurs when undigested food particles move too quickly into the small intestine. Similar to a state of shock, gastric bypass patients often break out in a cold sweat with a rapid heart beat and experience cramps and diarrhea. <br /><br /> In the event that patients want to reverse their weight loss surgeries, the LAP-BAND is considered the only reversible procedure because the internal anatomy is not changed with the placement of the LAP-BAND. As the LAP-BAND is merely implanted around the stomach without surgical manipulation of the intestinal tract, the stomach will return to its original state after removal of the LAP-BAND. <br /><br /> While both gastric bypass surgery and LAP-BAND surgery have been proven to be successful methods of treating obesity and sustaining long-term weight loss, the LAP-BAND procedure remains the safest and least invasive <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/weight+loss+surgery" rel="tag">weight loss surgery</a> available. <br /><br /> References: <br /><br /> 1. Executive summary: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding for the treatment of obesity (Update and Re-appraisal). The Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures =96 Surgical (ASERNIPS) 2002; 1. (Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery, like the LAP-BAND surgery, is associated with a mean short-term mortality rate of around 0.05% compared to 0.50% for Gastric Bypass and 0.31% for Vertical Banded Gastroplasty.) <bio>Carole S. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Heartburn on overdrive! <br /><br /> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/acid+reflux+disease" rel="tag">Acid reflux disease</a> is a result of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+acid" rel="tag">stomach acid</a> that simply doesn't stay where it is supposed to... in the stomach. Instead of staying in the stomach the wayward gastric acid decides to back flow up the esophagus and back into the mouth. <br /><br /> Yuck! <br /><br /> Leaving a wickedly bitter taste, this stomach acid on a reverse course can actually leaves pockets of erosive destruction in its wake. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/erosive+esophagitis" rel="tag">Erosive esophagitis</a> is a result of the destruction of the lining of the esophagus. <br /><br /> At least three months of painful, persistent and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/frequent+heartburn" rel="tag">frequent heartburn</a>, can earn you a diagnosis of acid reflux disease. <br /><br /> Heartburn is the quiet gentle cousin of its more aggressive and destructive family member acid reflux disease. Bubbling stomach acid regurgitates from the stomach sending the gastric juices back into the throat via the esophagus. It is the bubbling stomach acid that backs up into the esophagus that causes the characteristic burn of acid reflux disease. <br /><br /> The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/lower+esophageal+sphincter" rel="tag">lower esophageal sphincter</a>, LES, is the valve separating the esophagus and the stomach, is designed to be the gatekeeper of the stomach and is meant to keep the stomach acids in the stomach where they belong. <br /><br /> However, when the LES fails at its ever so well designed job, the stomach acids back flow. <br /><br /> The LES can fail through a couple of different ways, such as through relaxation of the sphincter, often associated with a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hiatal+hernia" rel="tag">hiatal hernia</a>, and through incomplete closing of the sphincter. <br /><br /> The body is so perfectly designed that the LES is a working valve that opens to let food into the stomach and is meant to close to keep the acids out of the esophagus. <br /><br /> It just happens that when it fails, acid reflux disease or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastroesophageal+reflux+disease" rel="tag">gastroesophageal reflux disease</a>, GERD, can be the result. So basically if the LES would do its job and keep the valve open when it's supposed to be open and closed when it's supposed to be closed then acid reflux disease would really be a thing of the past! <br /><br /> The good news is that you don't have to put up with heartburn on overdrive. There are many treatment options available for the relief of this pestering and chronic disease. <br /><br /> Acid reflux disease doesn't have to control your life! Talk with your healthcare provider today and get started on the road to better health. <br /><br /> Show that heartburn just who's the boss! <bio>For more important information on <a href="http://www.a-stomach-pain.com" >http://www.a-stomach-pain.com</a> visit a-stomach-pain.com where you will find advice and tips on common stomach pain causes such as <a href="http://www.a-stomach-pain.com/flx/acid-reflux.html" >http://www.a-stomach-pain.com/flx/acid-reflux.html</a>, ulcers, and other articles. </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ If you are looking for a few <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/unorthodox+methods" rel="tag">unorthodox methods</a> for losing weight, you've come to the right place. Not only do these methods work, but you won't find them anywhere else. So what are they: <br /><br /> 1. Staple your good arm to your side. <br /><br /> Believe it or not, but if you force yourself to eat with your non-dominant hand, you tend to focus more on "what" you are eating. Plus, since you'll probably end up missing your mouth once or twice, you'll eat slower, which helps to prevent over-eating. <br /><br /> 2. Glue <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/headphones" rel="tag">headphones</a> to your ears. <br /><br /> Most people waste time during their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/workouts" rel="tag">workouts</a> and miss out on many compound effects. If you are working out in a club, "headphones" signify the "I'm too in to my workout, don't bother me" person. Have you noticed that these people happen to be in the best <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/shape" rel="tag">shape</a> as well. It's no <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/coincedence" rel="tag">coincedence</a>. <br /><br /> 3. Shrink your stomach. <br /><br /> Doctors perform <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+stapling" rel="tag">stomach stapling</a> operations for one reason - they work! But, do you have to get this life changing operation to take advantage of the benefits. Absolutely not. The whole point of the operation is to "force" the patient to begin eating small, frequent meals. People see good results with the operation so, why don't we just read between the lines and go ahead and do what we need to do? <br /><br /> 4. Align yourself with track stars. <br /><br /> Okay, not the steroid using ones. Seriously though, work out with people that are in better shape than you are. Not only will you get to experience the types of workouts, that have gotten these people into phenomenal shape, but you'll also be able to work with a person who is where you want to be. This person will "pull" you toward the results you crave. But, don't worry, because since they will be seen as a role model, they'll tend to work out harder as well - so they don't let you down. <br /><br /> 5. You gotta pay to play. <br /><br /> Most people skimp when it comes to buying good shoes, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/workout+clothes" rel="tag">workout clothes</a> and music. Don't. The reason people do this is so they won't feel bad when they decide to quit on themselves. Where's the reasoning here? If you'll feel bad for quitting on yourself because you've spent a few bucks - then bygolly, spend more! Now, I'm not advocating that you buy the latest technogadget but most people only become "in it to win it" when their wallet reflects the same notion. Not many people will tell you this because it's counterinituitive, but it's the truth. <br /><br /> So there you go, 5 easy changes to maximize your workouts and increase your results. Give them a go and if they don't help you on your way to becoming "lean and mean", I'll sew my fingers together so I can't type any more of this "nonsense". <bio>Brad Howard's fitness blog, "The Mind Over Body Matter Letter" delves into the "meat and potatoes" of all of the misinformation generated by the diet and fitness industry today. <a href="http://www.mindoverbodymatter.com/MOBMletter" >http://www.mindoverbodymatter.com/MOBMletter</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

However, when stomach and back pain are combined, never ignore the symptoms. When stomach and back pain occur together, it could mean a number of things. It may be due to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/digestion+problems" rel="tag">digestion problems</a>, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/acid+reflux" rel="tag">acid reflux</a>, or nerve damage. If you do encounter both together, don't <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hesitate" rel="tag">hesitate</a> to see a doctor immediately. <br /><br /> When you see your doctor, he or she will want to know about the pain you're experiencing. Explain the pain exactly as you feel it. Is it a sharp pain, as if someone were jabbing you with a sharp stick, or is it a dull, recurring pain? Does the pain get worse when you sneeze or cough, does it keep you from sleeping, or does your stomach and back pain go away and come back with any kind of regularity? These are just a few of the questions your doctor will ask before examining you. The doctor will determine if the problem is minor, such as digestion problems or more serious, such as nerve damage, which could require surgery. <br /><br /> Stomach and back pain, especially when they occur together, should not be ignored. When you feel pain such as this, it usually means there's something going on inside and the pain is the only way to alert you about the problem. Your doctor is the one who should make the diagnosis, however, so it's important not to try any alternate treatment.Let your doctor examine your stomach and back pain as soon as it occurs, for you don't want to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/exacerbate" rel="tag">exacerbate</a> it by waiting too long. <br /><br /> For more Information check <a href="http://www.arthritisreliefhelp.info" >http://www.arthritisreliefhelp.info</a> <bio>Roger Thompson writes articles on arthritis and pain relief for <a href="http://arthritisrelief.info" >http://arthritisrelief.info</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Affecting millions of Americans each year, a stomach ulcer is a raw, open area in the normal lining of the stomach. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+ulcers" rel="tag">Stomach ulcers</a> get their particular name depending on the exact location of the ulcer. For example, a duodenal or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/peptic+ulcer" rel="tag">peptic ulcer</a> is a stomach ulcer found in the first foot of small intestines past the stomach. A <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/gastric+ulcer" rel="tag">gastric ulcer</a> in located inside the stomach itself. Although duodenal or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/peptic+ulcers" rel="tag">peptic ulcers</a> are almost always benign, it is important to remember that gastric or stomach ulcers can be malignant. Close medical management is critical. <br /><br /> A protective layer of mucus producing cells prevent the stomach from being destroyed by normal digestive juices and stomach acids. However, when there is a break in that protective layer trouble can occur. A stomach ulcer occurs when the gastric or intestinal mucosal lining of the stomach is destroyed by hydrochloric acid, an acid which is normally present in the digestive juices of the stomach. <br /><br /> Another cause of ulcers, particularly gastric and <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/duodenal+ulcers" rel="tag">duodenal ulcers</a>, can be a bacterial infection known as Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori. The helicobacter pylori bacterium may be transmitted from person to person through contaminated food and water and is treated with antibiotics. <br /><br /> One of the major <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/symptoms+of+a+stomach+ulcer" rel="tag">symptoms of a stomach ulcer</a> is pain, more specifically pain that feels much like a gnawing or burning pain in the middle upper abdomen often occurring some two to three hours after a meal. Often this pain is mistaken for heartburn or even hunger. Pain from a stomach ulcer may awaken you at night and may be relieved with food or milk. <br /><br /> Stomach ulcers are treated with prescription strength medications designed to reduce stomach acid, to protect the stomach lining and to treat the H. pylori bacteria, if it is present. <br /><br /> There are several medications that are commonly used to treat stomach ulcers. If the intent is to reduce stomach acid, then your physician may prescribe medications such as H2-Receptor antagonists like Nizatidine (Axid®), Cimetidine (Tagamet®), Ranitidine (Zantac®), or Famotidine (Pepcid®). Also used to reduce stomach acids are medications called Proton pump inhibitors. These types of medications include Omeprazole (Prilosec®), Esomeprazole (Nexium®), Lansoprazole (Prevacid®), or Pantoprazole (Pantoloc®). Medications used to protect the lining of the stomach include over-the-counter medications such as Rolaids or Tums or medications such as sucralfate, which forms a protective barrier over the site of the ulcer to help it to heal. <br /><br /> Stomach ulcers are certainly painful and can lead to additional complications such as bleeding. They require aggressive treatment directed by your healthcare provider in order to resolve the current ulcer and attempt to prevent future recurrences. <bio>For more important information on stomach pain be sure to visit <a href="http://a-stomach-pain.com" >http://a-stomach-pain.com</a> where you will find advice and tips on common stomach pain causes such as acid stomach ulcer, Crohn's disease, and other articles that you can view at <a href="http://www.a-stomach-pain.com" >http://www.a-stomach-pain.com</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ While there are a variety of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+ulcer+symptoms" rel="tag">stomach ulcer symptoms</a> experienced by many, this common disease attacks millions of Americans each and every year. <br /><br /> The stomach ulcer often presents itself in folks that take anti-inflammatory medications, smoke or drink alcohol. There is still some controversy as to whether stress causes <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+ulcers" rel="tag">stomach ulcers</a> or not. <br /><br /> The wicked stomach ulcer often presents as a burning, gnawing sensation in the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/pit+of+the+stomach" rel="tag">pit of the stomach</a> that can last for up to three hours. <br /><br /> Many of those who experience this phenomenon mistakenly think it is nothing more than hunger pains, heartburn or even basic indigestion. Unfortunately this can often cause patients to delay seeking treatment since they brush it off as basic health issues and nothing more. <br /><br /> Stomach <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ulcer+pain" rel="tag">ulcer pain</a> often occurs after a meal, is located in the upper abdomen and is often relieved by resting, taking antacids or having a small drink of milk. Weight loss may even be seen in those suffering extensively from a stomach ulcer since they actually avoid eating in hopes of avoiding pain. <br /><br /> Nausea and vomiting may also be seen for <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/those+suffering+from" rel="tag">those suffering from</a> stomach ulcers. You might also see black, tarry stools or stools containing dark red blood. This is an indication that your stomach ulcer is bleeding and this is a serious health complication and may require abdominal surgery. <br /><br /> Stomach ulcer symptoms may be treated with basic antacids or an even stronger medication, which requires a prescription. Stomach ulcer medications such as <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/protonix" rel="tag">Protonix</a> can actually help to reduce the acid production in your stomach and many find it useful in the treatment of stomach ulcers. <br /><br /> This is not a health issue which you can ignore since the stomach ulcer can literally erode the protective lining of the stomach. Some times your physician may prescribe a medication which forms a protective barrier over the lining of your stomach and gives your stomach ulcer a chance to heal. <br /><br /> When trying to recover your health, it is important that you take the time to eat balanced nutritious meals, limit your alcohol, tobacco usage and caffeine intake, as well as anti-inflammatory medications if at all possible. <br /><br /> There are several medical tests that your physician may utilize in order to definitively diagnose your stomach ulcer. It is important to have a diagnosis that is based on solid evidence so that you can get the treatment you need. <br /><br /> Your health depends on it and it is ridiculous to ignore the stomach ulcer symptoms you are enduring. Talk with your physician to see what help is available to you. Here's to better healthy days and stomach ulcers that heal. <bio>For more important information on health topics sure to visit <a href="http://www.the-health-hub.com" >http://www.the-health-hub.com</a> where you will find information and resources on personal health such as aches and pains, conditions and diseases, diet and nutrition, fitness and many other articles that you can view at <a href="http://the-health-hub.com" >http://the-health-hub.com</a> </bio>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Signs of a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+ulcer" rel="tag">stomach ulcer</a> can include nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain just beneath the ribcage, indigestion, vomiting, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/symptoms+of+anemia" rel="tag">symptoms of anemia</a>, weight loss, and blood present in vomit or bowel movements. <br /><br /> If you experience these symptoms for any length of time, it is important to seek medical attention. These are not symptoms to be ignored. <br /><br /> <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/stomach+ulcers" rel="tag">Stomach ulcers</a> occur when there is a break in the tissue lining of the stomach. These ulcers normally occur in the stomach or the first part of the small intestine that leads out of the stomach, called the duodenum. <br /><br /> Commonly stomach ulcers are related to extreme stress, smoking and diet. Any of which are factors over which we have control, making it possible to heal a ulcer; if you work to eliminate some of the contributing factors that can lead to the development. <br /><br /> If you begin noticing the signs of a stomach ulcer, these signs should not be ignored. In fact, an appointment with your doctor should be your course of action if these symptoms persist. <br /><br /> In order for your doctor to make a specific diagnosis, several tests may be ordered to help determine the exact cause of your stomach pain. <br /><br /> One of the first tests your physician may order is the barium swallow or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/upper+gi+series" rel="tag">upper GI series</a> of X-rays. This test allows your doctor to identify and locate any ulcers and determine its type and severity. <br /><br /> The <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/barium+swallow+test" rel="tag">barium swallow test</a> requires you to drink a "<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/barium+milkshake" rel="tag">barium milkshake</a>." This thick "shake" contains a liquid that will light up on an x-ray. The barium will light up on the x-ray making it easier for your physician to see exactly what is going on and causing your pain. <br /><br /> You are normally asked to eat only bland, easily digestible foods for two or three days before the test. After drinking the chalky liquid, you will be asked to lie down on a tilting examining table, which as it tilts, evenly distributes the barium around your upper digestive tract and allows the x-ray to capture images at different angles. <br /><br /> Treatment options for stomach ulcers can consist of over the counter medications, prescription medications, modifying your diet, perhaps a lifestyle change that includes the addition of exercise and reduction of stress, and as a last result, surgery. <br /><br /> In summary, any signs of stomach ulcers should not be ignored as the delay in diagnosis and treatment could lead to further complications. It is important to understand, however, that in many cases you have control over the factors that contribute to stomach ulcers. <bio>For more important information on <a href="http://www.a-stomach-pain.com" >http://www.a-stomach-pain.com</a>.
