Every daycare needs a way of communicating to their parents and a newsletter is a great way of sharing important information. Every newsletter should be fun, exciting and newsworthy.

Activities that children participate and love at daycare can be shared with parents. There are so many things that happen at your daycare so don't be afraid to tell parents about all the activities and fun that is going on. Your parents will appreciate every bit of information that you tell them so don't hold back they will love it.

Tip #1 Make your newsletter appealing. Use fonts, pictures, and make sure you spell correctly. You want parents to be exited about picking it up.

Tip#2 Always use the same color of pager, the same font. You don't want parents getting confused as to what's going on.

Tip#3 Talk about your parents and children, mention little things about them with their permission. Have lots of pictures of the parents and children who attend your daycare.

Tip#4 Talk about what is going on in your classroom and how parents can reinforce that behavior.

Tip#5 List resources that would be helpful to parents. Websites, magazines, books, that would help parents with raising their children.

Tip#6 Find out what kind of information your parents are looking for in your newsletter. Don't feel shy- ask your parents what kind of information they are looking for, maybe they need help with potty training their toddler, or are frustrated by todder behavior. There is truly so much information that you could include in your newsletter that would help parents in "parenting".

Your parents will love having a newsletter that will communicate all the activities and fun that occurs at your daycare center. Make sure it's fun and inviting, and the rest will fall in place.

© CG Groth Inc. <bio>The "Daycare Queen", Christine G.
Step Parenting was once mostly tied to the loss of a parent, though in modern times it is becoming a situation where children's parents split up as well. In reality it can be good or bad. If it's possible for children to have 2 sets of parents, and keep a good peaceful and positive environment, that can be great and give them twice the opportunities. Often this isn't the case and it isn't perfect, though it's wise to do the best to make it work for the children.

When it comes to parenting in any situation, it's the children that are the most important factor. Bringing them up safely, learning good values, with the eventual goal that they will stand well on their own, where they still have a close family that remains. The most important role in society is taking care of the future; the children that will some day take over.

Seldom does anyone simply choose step parenting in life. It's often something you come across. Whether you come into the relationship with your own children, or they do; or maybe both of you... The most important thing is all children involved have to be considered at this point. If that won't work, it's best to avoid being step parents as the only ones to lose are the future.

If you choose to move along, you need to consider the effects of merging families. This is what you are doing, and with that you need to bring the situation to a level that works fairly with all children involved. Much consideration and discussion needs to happen for the step parent(s) to be able to know they are stepping into a situation that is already set. You can't just change the children's world. Rather, they need to continue forward; positively! When bringing two families together the discussion needs to be deeper yet so that the benefits are equal across the board.

Step parents need to fit into all the children's lives in a fair and even manner that works with all of them. Any other situation without balance will likely bring failures that can be devastating to some if not all the children. This is unacceptable.

Now with that said, step parents can help fill a gap that has traditionally been enjoyed by many children; the benefit of two parents. This is especially so when the step parent is willing to take the time to care, do their best to help raise the children; in fact more or less care for them as much as the missing parent would (or should) do.

Another aspect of step parenting that all involved should have an understanding is why the missing parent(s) aren't there. This might be the subject of future strife, as well as a lot of questions from the children. There needs to be a strong and unified understanding on this ground to be able to keep altogether if the children really want more answers, or if the absent parties show up with demands.

That's another area that can be unique to step parenting; the point where you might have to step aside disregarding your own feelings, simply because the children need better contact with the previously missing parent. You might have to find a balance in a very imbalanced situation. But you must for the children's sake.

The best way to be sure where your parenting and step parenting go, is after it has happened over time. But you need to be sure it's got a strong chance of succeeding before it even begins. What's risked otherwise can hurt generations to come... <bio>Find out more about step parenting at http://best-parenting.com/step_parenting.php plus lots of other useful information about parenting your children. </bio>

One of the biggest reasons for parent dissatisfaction is lack of communication. It's extremely important in any small business and especially in family daycare. Remember daycare centers are taking care of a persons must valuable asset, their child. So it only goes to show that a parent is concerned about the level and commitment of care that they are receiving from a daycare provider. Communication is of such importance, not only does it show that you care about your clients, but also that you are a professional in the daycare industry.

1.	When a parent comes at the end of the day to pick up their child, always start out a conversation with positive information. If there is anything negative to say about a child place that information in the middle of a conversation. So in other words, start with positive comments, than negative, and always end in positive.

2.	When interviewing parents for enrollment to your daycare, always ask many questions regarding a families habits and patterns. What do they enjoy doing on weekend, what are their concerns regarding childcare, what are they looking for? Really try to find out what kind of family your customer is and what their needs are. Chances are you will be better off filling their needs if you know who they are from the very beginning.

3.	Establish your rules and guidelines from the beginning. Having a contract stating your rules and regulations establishes a boundary in your business. So many times I hear from other daycare owners that parents do not respect their wishes. From the start you need to set the rules and boundaries, if you don't parents may take advantage of you.

4.	Always give parents enough time and warning. If you plan on closing your daycare, raising your prices, or making any type of change give your parents enough time. Many people do not do well with change so it's always important to give them more than enough time to make the appropriate changes.

5.	Once a year do a survey in your daycare. Find out if your parents are happy and what kind of improvements they are looking for. The more information you find out about your parents and what they want the better off you will be. Make sure that the survey is anonymous so that parents are not afraid to tell you their thoughts and opinions.

© CG Groth Inc. 2006 <bio>The "Daycare Queen", Christine G.
Commonly there is an expectation amongst parents of children in close knit families, particularly when a family is of humble means, that the children will grow up, gain a good education and be successful. Taking this one step further those parents of Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents expect to be able to join their children in Australia as permanent residence and eventually as Australian citizens.

Australian Migration Laws however do not allow parents of every Australian permanent resident or every foreign born Australian citizen to migrate to Australia as a permanent resident. There are a number of conditions that the parents have to fulfil or gateways that they successfully have to negotiate to migrate to Australia. Some of the more important ones are discussed below. Balance of Family Test

The andquot;balance of familyandquot; test is defined in Regulation 1.05 of the Australian Migration Regulations. Briefly, to pass this test a parent must have at least half of his or her children permanently residing in Australia (including eligible New Zealand citizens i.e. children with subclass 444 visas) OR they must have the greatest number of children permanently residing in Australia than in any other single overseas country. By way of an example, a parent who has 5 children and 3 of them live in country A and 2 of them live in Australia, that parent would not satisfy the balance of family test. However if the same parent has 1 child in country A, another child in country B and third child in country C and 2 children in Australia, that parent would satisfy the balance of family test. Further if the parent had 3 children in Australia and 2 in other countries then the balance of family test will be satisfied. If the parent had 4 children and 2 were permanently resident in Australia, the balance of family test would be satisfied.

A person is considered the child of a parent if the person is a child, adopted child or stepchild of the parent or of the spouse of the parent. A child can also be the child of a parent if the child is the child of a former spouse of the parent if that child was adopted by the parent before the parent became the former spouse i.e. while the parent was the spouse of the former spouse.

In assessing children for the balance of family test the following children are not to be considered the children of the parent:

- children who have been adopted by another person;

- a child who has been ordered by a Court to be removed from the exclusive custody of the parent;

- children who have been recognised by UNHCR as refugees and are in a refugee camp;

- children who are not able to be reunited in another country with their parents and who are resident in a country where they are subject of persecution and abuse of human rights;

- step children of a person if those children were born after their parent and a step parent separated;

- step children of a person if the children were over 18 years of age and their parent entered into a relationship with the step parent and relationship between the parent and the step parent has ended by death, separation or divorce.

Unless the andquot;balance of familyandquot; test is satisfied, there is no flexibility in succeeding in an application for an Australian permanent resident visa on the basis of being a parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. <bio>Frank Egan is the Chief Executive Officer of LAC Lawyers Sydney http://www.laclawyers.com.au and has over 27 years of experience as a lawyer. </bio>

When babies cry for more than three hours per day, they are said to have colic. This period of excessive crying differs from baby to baby, but usually occurs when a baby is around three weeks of age and wears off when a baby is in between the age of four to six weeks. During this period of extreme disturbance, the parents usually get little or no sleep.

Most doctors believe that colic occurs to a child in order to psychologically awaken, and prepare the parents of the newborn child, for a new life. This sense of awareness created through colic, is said to make the parents understand that a new member is now in the family. It is just as though the child is announcing their presence. If not for colic, doctors say that the normal way of life will resume and the parents will need more time to adjust to their new beginning as parents.

Usually what most parents would want is for the child to meet their demands. If the parents want to go out they would expect the child to stay quiet for the sitter, when they want to sleep they would imagine that the child would also fall asleep with them. This is not the case as the colic introduces a lot of change into their current active life. This helps the parents adjust their lifestyle to accommodate the newborn child instead of the newborn complying to parents lifestyle for each other. Reason for this belief has risen due to the fact that when parents have adopted a new lifestyle accommodating the newest member of the family, the colic stops.

Also what parents should understand is that colic is not a disease or an illness of some sort. It is very normal for a child to go through this period. The crying in some children will be more than others but this soon all this will go away. It is just another sign that the child is growing physically and mentally healthy. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

Many parents may not be aware of what it takes to be an intentional parent. Of course, parenting is an ongoing process that teaches parents new things each day and leaves much more that needs to be learnt before they become a good parent. With their busy schedules, it is hard enough for them to be a good parent and intentional parenting may seem quite daunting and unattainable at first.

Not Necessarily Perfect Parenting

Intentional parenting may not be perfect parenting; instead, it refers to a parent that has mentally determined that some action or result related to parenting need to be performed. In other words, the intentional parent is an "on purpose" parent. Parents often tend to react to their children rather than have a plan that they have prepared in advance. This is a tendency that parents readily acknowledge, but do little about.

Some reasons that contribute to intentional parenting being difficult to achieve are vision, know-how and accountability. Furthermore, the biggest obstacle to intentional parenting begins in the mind -- there may not be enough time for contemplating what hangs in the balance. In other words, parents often fail to realize what can be gained and what is lost if they do not invest in their children through intentional parenting.

Lack of know-how is another challenge facing parents. Parents will often be at a loss to visualize what intentional parenting looks and feels like, and what it all about is. This means that parents' lack a plan of action and it can be compared to driving in a foreign country without a map for guidance. To get over this shortcoming, parents need to read, research, and utilize resources to get started on the road to intentional parenting. It may even necessitate changing their strategy and approach towards the child.

After developing the vision and plan of action, there is still the task of implementing the intentional parenting concept. Being accountable is a good first step in this direction because when the parent deviates from the path of intentional parenting and may be slipping, accountability will enable the parent to get back on course and escape the mistake of falling out of habit.

With all these well meaning thoughts and ideas in place, it only remains to act with energy and time which, for busy parents, seems to be always in short supply. Nevertheless, with courage one can become a good parent. Every parent should be able to muster up enough courage and take the intentional parenting path, to achieve betterment of both child and parent. <bio>Ann Merier writes articles about family health, house and garden Topics. http://parentingtips.ultimatehealthinfo.com http://stopsmokingtip.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ http://losingweight.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ </bio>

If you are the parent of a teenage you are likely already familiar with the craze of teenagers and cell phones. Adults have started looking at cell phones as a necessity in their every day life and teenagers are not far behind in catching on. Over thirty percent of teenagers today own their own cell phone. The majority of the remaining number of teenagers wants one. Parents consider the pros and cons of allowing their teenager to have a cell phone and generally come up with the same type of list.

The advantage every parent realizes for allowing a teenager to have a cell phone is safety. Teenagers are going out with their friends and going out on dates. Parents no longer need to wonder if their teenager is going to be late or is having a problem. Instead the teenager can call home and let the parents know any change of plans or any problems they may run into. Having a cell phone is a sense of security for parents and children alike. Many parents feel more comfortable in a dating situation when their teenager has a cell phone. If there is car trouble or a case where a teenager is faced with a drinking and driving situation, the teenager has immediate access to a phone to call home.

Convenience is another advantage that is often cited by parents. If the teenager is at soccer practice and does not know when they will be home or if they need a ride, they can call home when they are done. This saved mom or dad from having to sit and wait needlessly. Changing of plans can also be discussed. When a teenager has permission to go see a movie but then the movie is sold out, they can call home and get permission to go to the alternate activity. Whenever a teenager needs to communicate with parents or parents need to reach the teenager, it will be easy and fast.

The downside to a teenager having a cell phone is almost always stated to be cost and responsibility. Cell phone plans can be expensive and monthly plans limit to a certain extent the number of minutes and text messages that can be sent. Every parent of a teenager knows how much they enjoy talking on the phone and sending text messages to their friends. The amount of time spent on the phone can add up so parents are continually paying high fees for overages. Then, there is a question of responsibility. Cell phones are expensive and if lost have to be replaced. There are also certain times and situations where cell phones are not appropriate to use. Teens need to learn responsibility and be sure they use a cell phone properly if they have one.

Most parents agree that if they could be reassured the cons were not a big issue that they would get their teenager a cell phone because of the pros. The first step in getting a cell phone is to decide on a plan. Using the Internet to research cell phone plans is a great place to start.

If you are worried about the responsibility issues such as checking for cell phone usage so the teen does not go over allotted minutes or cell phone etiquette, parents should look into a unique program called "Off the Hook" that is designed for teenagers and parents. "Off the Hook", found online at http://www.cell-phones-n-plans.com/parents.html, is designed to give a compromise on the cons regarding teenage cell phone usage and allow parents the confidence that the teenager will not misuse or take advantage or the privilege of owning a cell phone. There is an agreement that can be downloaded and signed by the teenager so they are aware of all the responsibilities of owning a cell phone and what they should do to use it properly.

Most parents agree that though teenagers want to have a cell phone as a status symbol and to talk to their friends, that there are legitimate safety reasons for teenagers to own a cell phone. Most parents also agree that if they did not have to worry about the downside to teenage cell phone use that they would likely allow its ownership. Educating teenagers and parents is the first step in crossing the hurdle of the downside to teenage cell phone use. Using a program such as "Off the Hook" can help deal with this issue so parents and teenagers alike are happy with the result. <bio>We specialize in cell phone information such as rates, http://www.cell-phones-n-plans.com free cell phones online, coverage areas, and http://www.cell-phones-n-plans.com/cell-prepaid-plans.html free prepaid cell phones.
Finding biological parents the easy way using online public records

Do you want to find your real parents? Are you curious about where you came from, who your parents are and why they gave you up for adoption? If you've never known your biological parents then it's only human nature that sooner or later you'll start to wonder why it is that they left you. You may not want to meet them, especially when you find out what the're like but I bet that you would like to know something about them even if you do it secretly.

Before the Internet and the availability of public records online the only way to find someone was either to spend a lot of time making enquiries in the places where you think the person may have resided or to spend money on a private detective who would do the work for you. The first option often meant a lot of traveling to follow up leads that you find. The second option is expensive and enough to make most people think twice about finding their lost parents.

Start searching for your birth parents by looking yourself up

You have to start somewhere and you aren't going to get far unless you know the names of your parents and have at least an idea of where they lived when you were born. This information should be on your birth certificate but if you were adopted then you might not possess a copy. If you don't have your real parents details then go online and look up information on yourself. You should be able to find the information that you need amongst the public birth records.

Armed with the information about your parents from your birth record you can now search for their details using the same online database. If you know their names and where they used to live you should be able to find out where they are located now.

And there's more. When you start finding information on your parents you can find out much more than simply where they live. You can find telephone numbers, criminal records, marriage records, arrest records and all sorts of things that you never imagined.

Tracing birth parents confidentially so that you decide if you want to contact them or not

You might have a burning desire to get in touch with your real parents or you might just be curious to know who they are and what they've been doing. You might not know yourself whether you want to contact them at this time. Either way there's no harm in doing the searches and tracing your biological parents and possibly the rest of your real family because it's all done with 100% confidentiality.

When you have the information you can decide what you are going to do with it. You can pick the phone up and call them or you can quietly ignore it and get on with your own life.

Using an online public records database to find people doesn't work for everyone, some people just can't be found, but it is the best and certainly the easiest way to search for someone by a long way. If you are even thinking about the parents that you've lost then you owe it to yourself to give this a try. You might get a very pleasant surprise and you don't have anything to lose.<bio>Trace yourself, your birth parents, your family and practically anyone How Do I Find A Person? Popular guides and tutorials http://www.howdo-i.com/</bio>

One common concern that parents all face is the health of their children. For parents who don't have a health care plan, this can lead to an almost constant state of worry.

Children all face medical needs at some point. It may be something as simple as requiring a few stitches or the filling of a cavity. When medical care is needed the parent's last concern should be how they will pay for it.

Most states actually offer free or very low cost health insurance for children. The cost of this insurance is largely dependent on the parents' financial situation. If the parents cannot adequately provide health insurance for their child, the state will step in. Doctor visits, dental care and prescription eyeglasses are a few examples of what is covered.

For parents whose incomes don't qualify them for this type of health coverage for their child, there are other avenues for them. Some of these don't immediately come to mind and in fact some people aren't aware of them at all.

Just as many employers offer health care plans to their employees and families, other organizations do the same thing. Many professional organizations have affordable health plans that cover their members and the dependents of the members.

Some religious groups also offer this type of plan. They establish a health care plan that covers their group members and although premiums are still payable, they are often at a discounted rate. For parents with children, this can be a great way to save money.

Another consideration is the private insurance companies that often offer health insurance to students. This insurance is primarily designed to protect the child in the event of an accident at school but the policy can be expanded to cover any instance. Talk with the insurance agent and express your needs. After all, accommodating their clients is what keeps insurance companies in business. <bio>http://www.myquoteguide.com http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home/ http://www.ezquoteguide.com/car/ </bio>

Everyone who has a child wants him to be as intelligent as possible. The old deal of telling the child they could grow up to be president is speaking directly to this fact. The act of becoming president speaks to the fact that they are intelligent and that seems to be the peak for a lot of people, especially parents in general. Of course not every child can become president but they can achieve a greater point of intelligence.

This is possible for all children in the fact that there is no reason why anyone should not take advantage of the programs that are available to the children to make sure they achieve the utmost in goals. Parents need to be aware that there are things in the world that can help the children to become smarter while not disrupting the lives of those around them. Thankfully many of the programs are acceptable to most parents as they are not stressful on the child, making it an easy adjustment for a good lot of people involved in the whole situation.

There is no reason why a parent would not want their child to be as smart as possible. The first step to creating an intelligent child that has a real thirst for learning is to enroll the child in pre-school program. This is an often over looked step in the process of education for children. The pre-school programs that are now being offered are much more than the glorified babysitting programs of the past. The focus of the pre-school situation is more about creating an atmosphere that is closer to the educational system then ever before.

The schools are now run with a class room type feel and the children have lessons that need to be completed in order to graduate. This is all mixed with fun activities to make sure that the child is not making the mistakes of thinking it is all about work. This is a definite improvement over the past when the pre-schools were all about keeping the children quiet and never teaching them anything about the whole deal. The move to the educational status has made pre-school a must for the children to properly adapt to the rigors of education as they move up in years. Sadly there is a down sizing in the number of parents that are putting stock into the pre-school years for their children.

The other step that is important is the many head start programs that are now being offered. The beauty of head start is that it comes before pre-school and is a platform for the child to spring from and get a jump on the other children. Head start programs are based around the principle that it is never too early to start learning.

Math is one of the main focuses of the head start programs with some early basics on language and science thrown into the mix. These programs have been proven to take the child to the next level of education and give them a real boost in the confidence department. <bio>Read more Parenting related articles at: http://www.kidsandteens-mag.com </bio>

In the realm of spiritual warfare against demonic spirits - one of the ways that demons can enter into a person's life is through a generational curse line. A curse line can be formed out between a parent and a child if that parent has engaged and crossed over into any type of heavier transgression against the Lord.

The Bible tells us that the sins of the father can be "visited" down the blood line of 3 or 4 generations of future children. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin will always be death. As a result of a sinning parents severe transgressions against the Lord - sometimes demons will be allowed to attach to the sinning parent - and then they will attempt to jump and transfer onto some of the children to form out this curse line.

If that curse line gets formed out - then the demons will follow that child into his adult life and try to get him to commit the same type of sins his sinning parent may have been committing. That is why alcoholic fathers sometimes produce children that also end up becoming alcoholics themselves - all as a result of a curse line that had formed out between the sinning parent and the child - with demons feeding and operating on that curse line trying to influence the child to go in the same direction as his father has been going in.

Here are the 6 steps that will need to be taken in order to properly break a curse line:

1. The first thing you will have to do is be willing to make a full surrender of you and your entire life over to the Lord. The Bible tells us that we first have to be fully submitted to the Lord before we can begin to resist the devil to make him flee from us.

2. The second step is to go before the Lord and confess out the sins of the sinning parent or parents.

3. The third step is to then be willing to fully forgive your parents for whatever they have done to you - no matter how bad or how vicious the abuse has been over the years.

4. The next step is to verbally break any unhealthy soul ties that may have developed between the child and the bad parent.

5. The fifth step is to then verbally, out loud, break the curse lines that the demons have been operating and feeding on over all of those years operating under the power, anointing and authority to be able to do this.

6. The last and final step, once the curse line has been fully broken and severed, is to then verbally command the demons to now leave you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Curse lines can be broken. Christians do not have to put up with the torments and attacks from demons who have may have been following them into their adult lives and into their own marriages as a result of the legal rights given to them by the sinning parent.

The Bible tells us that having lack of knowledge can cause us too go into captivity. However, the reverse is also true. Having the right kind of knowledge can help set you free and get you delivered from any kind of captivity you may have fallen into. <bio>Article written by Michael Bradley from http://www.bibleknowledgebookstore.com </bio>

The task of finding a good baby sitter is not an easy one for most parents who don't a lot of alternatives. However, there are some few nice resources and informed approaches to take when considering taking a baby sitter for the family. And there are also visible signals that indicate that your choice might not be the correct one.

No doubt, it is a huge task to find someone to care for your children, because most parents simply dread the thought of leaving their children with a stranger, even the specially trained child care providers. The task of leaving your child in someone else's care might be difficult, but it is equally the correct step to take if you want your child to develop a healthy attachment to you.

For parents with a child in a daycare, it is a good idea to ask about what is termed parents night out. This king of service is rendered by some daycare centers, which practically eliminates the need for a baby sitter.

A good example is my niece. She attends daycare three times in a week, while I act as her baby sitter the other two days. And on one Saturday every month, her daycare staffs will look after the children for a fee, which is a welcomed service and relief to parents.

Note however that it is not every daycare that offers baby sitter service; there might be a need for a baby sitter on a day different from the one chosen by the company. This could be due to a lot of reasons that ranges from aging grandparents that cannot physically cope with children's needs, your family is living far away from relatives and friends, to the simple reason that you just don't feel at ease with someone who is not trained to baby sit. What should you do in such situations?

The most important thing is to have a network. You can make enquiries from friends and neighbors who have children that are of the same age as yours who they use.

The church and your work place are also good places to ask questions. Both these methods are effective ways to get a good baby sitter in your vicinity.

But sometimes when you've eventually found a baby sitter, you may entertain doubt about your judgment. Questions like the experience of the person, or if your child will get the correct care will usually cross your mind. And most of the time this hunch may be proved right, because some baby sitters are certainly not very good.

A good way to determine this is to close observe the behavior of your child. How does the child respond to the arrival of the baby sitter? Is it by crying or by getting unreasonably upset? Does the child look too eager for return?

Though this might sound odd because every child is excited about the prospects of seeing their parents, but if your ward does this by peering out of the window or by standing near the door, then it is time to get a new baby sitter. <bio>By Bill Johnson http://www.family-and-babies.com http://www.babies-and-parents.com </bio>

Are you a step-parent in a blended family? Are your spouse's children having difficulty adjusting to this new situation? Or have you been blended for a long time and things just aren't going well? Have you heard the kids say, "You aren't my dad/mom, and I don't have to listen to you!" or worse, do the kids just ignore what you have to say?

Did you know that at least one-third of all children in the U.S. will live in a step-family before the age of 18? (Larson, J (1992), Understanding stepfamilies, American Demographics 14, 360).

Before I share these tips with you, I want to spend a little time talking about preparation. Second marriages sometimes bring up questions and issues for children. You may have noticed that the kids are acting out or retreating to their rooms. Children of divorce often times have fantasies that their biological parents will get back together. Once you introduce the idea of a remarriage those fantasies are confronted. It is important to recognize this and open up a discussion with the children. It is also a good idea for you and your spouse to decide how you will handle discipline before you live together or marry.

So no matter if you are a new step parent or have been hitting your head against the wall for what seems like years, take a deep breath and try these 5 tips.

Tip #1 Step Parent as Uncle/Aunt, Friend, Coach

As a new step parent, you have your job cut out for you. In the beginning, take a step back and see yourself as needing to connect with the children rather than disciplining them. In the beginning, let the children's biological parent handle the correcting, reprimanding, etc. Work on creating a close relationship with these new children in your life. Do this until the children have accepted you. Even if you have been blended for years, take a step back.

Tip # 2 Stay Neutral

Don't get pulled into a debate between your spouse and their child about a behavior. Let your spouse handle the situation. Only join in when/if your spouse asks for your help.

Tip #3 Get a Hobby

Allow your spouse to have "alone/special time with their children. The kids need this and your marital relationship needs this, too. There is plenty of time for family time. Let the kids know that you are not taking their mom or dad away from them.

Tip #4 Offer Help

Offer your help to the children in areas of homework, sports, problem solving. Even if they turn you down, don't retreat. Let the kids know that you are available if they have a problem or need help.

Tip #5 Family Meeting

Once you have bonded with the children you can begin sharing some of the discipline with your spouse. With your spouse, set up a few house rules and consequences and share these with the kids in a family meeting. Simple rules such as no hitting and chores and homework must be completed before TV, computer and play. If they break one of these rules while you are in charge, you can say, "well this is the rule of the house and you know the consequence." This takes you out of the middle. It also makes you and your spouse a united front. <bio>Susan P. Epstein, LCSW, Parent Life Coach, works with parents looking to get control of their family life. So let's begin with the 3 ways to establish a tuition rate for your childcare center.

1. Do your homework and research: Find out exactly what everyone else is charging. You have several ways of doing this, you can be honest and introduce yourself and your center and mention that you are doing an evaluation of tuition rates in your area or you can do it anonymously. Pretend to be a parent looking for childcare and ask for the rates. It's entirely up to you as to how you want to do your research, but I'll tell you that it is so very important to find out what other daycare owners are doing in your community.

2. Evaluate all the information you have gathered, ask yourself this question:

• Which centers have a waiting lists and/or a good reputation

• What activities or curriculum do they promote? Some daycare centers have swimming lessons, teach computer class, etc.

• Are teachers certified or degreed?

3. Your Results will give you an idea as to what your market demands. What I mean by this is what other centers are charging. My knowledge and experience tells me that people are not so interested in the tuition rate, but more so on the environment and quality of care. Many parents choose a center based on if they feel comfortable and trust that provider.

Based on your research you should have a good idea as to charging tuition, but realize one thing. Don't try to undercut others in your childcare industry. Parents believe that they will get what they pay for. Having a cheap tuition rate will not bring you more enrollment.

What will bring you enrollment is a healthy amount of "word of mouth". Parents talking about you positively and telling their friends and family what a wonderful experience their having at your daycare center.

© 2006 CG Groth <bio>The "Daycare Queen", Christine G.
Most often than not, parents find their children a handful both emotionally and physically. They love their children and want to give them the best they can -- and always feel that they could have done better if they found/ had better guidance. Parents mostly feel lost when it comes to establish a mutually respectful relationship which can alternate love and respect effortlessly.

Where Do You Look for Parenting Guidelines?

Usually, when you are stuck in your day-to-day parenting chores, you tend to ask your parents -- because in your mind they would know best. Similarly, you should understand that for a child, the parent is the ultimate authority often for life -- though this would not be visible at the first glance.

It would be great if there was a parenting curriculum, which could act as a standard for all parents. Since this is not there, it is left on the intelligence of the parents to work out the best solutions when they have a problem with parenting; the internet is priceless for this purpose. One can search and find parenting forums, chat lines, websites, books and even hotlines for experts which can provide much better guidance than any parenting curriculum would have ever done.

Your Own Parents

The best parenting guidelines would always be your gut feeling and the advice of your mother. Whenever you feel that you are stuck, all you need to do is to get in touch with your mother and ask her how she would have handled it. Unfortunately, most of us lose emotional touch with your parents after we marry and settle down to raise our own family. We often forget that both the 'school' and the 'parenting curriculum' can be found in our own parents!

There are a lot of things that experience hands down over to parents along the years; and often this experience becomes a private parenting curriculum, which is bundled tightly in the mind's attic waiting to be unfolded and used at the appropriate time. Hence, you will never find a better parenting curriculum or guidance than that your own parents collected over the years to hand over to you. This is why the relationship between parents and their children and that of children and their grandparents is so meaningful.

Of course, for those who cannot reach out to their parents, there are millions of websites which can act as surrogate parents in difficult times. Fortunately, the internet can be used at any time of night and day with excellent results. It is very rare that you search something on the internet and you come up empty-handed -- parenting help included. <bio>Ann Merier writes articles about family health, house and garden Topics. http://parentingtips.ultimatehealthinfo.com http://stopsmokingtip.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ http://losingweight.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ </bio>

One of the most difficult decisions to make is the choice of gifts to give new parents after the arrival of their baby. It seems rather simple, but believe me it is a tough one.

Though this might sound funny, but its usefulness as a gift for new parents is getting increasingly popular. The item is baby-gift-baskets.

They are a very good gift option and are always welcomed, perhaps due to their utility nature. This kind of baskets can be used for variety of tasks.

Baby-gift-baskets are available in retail stores, and if you prefer shopping online, you can still order one from several internet shops. Those with a flair for creativity can even go a step further by making a baby-gift-basket of their choice.

When purchasing the gift, or if you are making one yourself, you must consider the gender of the baby. These will guide you about the theme to choose for the basket.

An interesting theme is andquot;diaper dutyandquot;. If you decide to go for this, then its best to include disposable diapers and baby powders for the parents.

If you are not disposed to the above, another option you can go for is to fill the baby-gift-baskets with travel sizes of the products most used by the parents.

Items to consider for this includes baby shampoo, soap, baby wash clothes, creams and lotions. The parents will appreciate this because the gift items will just fit into the diaper bag anytime they go out with the new arrival.

You can also include fun items like toys and books in the baby-gift-basket. They will come in handy when the baby begins to grow.

A very good idea is the addition of a memorable item in the baby-gift-basket. The best item for this will be a copy of the local newspaper for the day the baby was born.

An alternative to baby-gift-basket is a small rocking chair the baby will be able to use when it becomes a toddler.

And like other baby-gift-baskets options, this one too goes with accompanying items. Clothing and toys are good examples of what to add.

If you are not too keen with a rocking chair, you will want to give a baby bathtub a look in. The bathtub can be filled with all bath essentials like soaps, shampoos, wash cloths, and towels.

Fun items like a bath toy or bath crayons can also be added to the baby bathtub gift. This will offer something for the first few years of the baby's life.

However, when planning for the purchase of the baby-gift-baskets, you should also ensure you include a small gift for the new parents into your budget. A bottle of wine will be just fine, as it will enable the parents toast to their new bundle of joy. <bio>By Jenny Riley - http://www.my-cute-baby.com </bio>

The unsuccessful state of public schools in the nation is epitomized by the devastation of the city of New Orleans and the New Orleans Schools. Inner city and racial achievement gaps that had been ignored before Hurricane Katrina were impossible to ignore once the districts had to be rebuilt. The biggest challenge in rebuilding the New Orleans Schools seems to reflect the overall problem with public education in the United States. While everyone seems to have an opinion, no one really knows the best way to educate our children.

Helping Parents Adapt to the New Orleans Schools

Many former students of the New Orleans Schools are still scattered in other cities around the nation. But for those who returned to the emerging new system, the past school year has been confusing and often frenzied. Low-income parents and parents with little education are rarely comfortable in academic settings. But these are the people who the New Orleans Schools need to reach out to most.

A coalition of community groups has come together to create a parents' guide to the new New Orleans Schools. The New Orleans Parents' Guide to Public Schools contains a ton of information on the school options available, how to obtain lost documents, childcare, and picking the best school for your child.

The guide lists all 69 of the new New Orleans Schools, maps, photos, how to register, and transportation for each. The goal of the guide is two-fold. First, it aims to make parents more comfortable with the New Orleans Schools. Second, it tries to make accessing the information they need as convenient as possible. A list of locations where parents of children in the New Orleans Schools can pick up the book is available at http://www.nolaparentsguide.org .

The book's editor, Aesha Raheed, said, "Empowering all of our families is a critical step for us to redesign public education in New Orleans. We're focused on student achievement and academic outcomes. We have an opportunity to push us in that direction. We're redefining what the expectations of public education are... and making sure our students get the best education they can."

Challenges of Low Income Populations

Educators in New Orleans Schools are intimately familiar with the challenges of educationing "at-risk" populations. Children who come from poverty, who have poorly educated parents, or absent parents, or live in dangerous environments, are more likely to suffer from attention issues, undiagnosed learning disabilites, and to struggle in school. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, many of these children in the New Orleans Schools are now dealing with post-traumatic shock issues as well.

The one unexpected benefit of the devastating hurricane is that the New Orleans Schools are being rebuilt from the ground up. Administrators, educators, and parents of the New Orleans Schools district are creating new public schools, charter schools and other initiatives designed to provide all children with adequate public education. <bio>Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
Adoption is a legal act whereby a child is permanently placed with parents other than the child's biological parents. What we may not always consider is that this forms a new child-grandparent bond as well. Grandparents have always had a role in the raising of children, and the fact that this new grandchild is not of their biological lineage does not change that fact. As a grandfather you may have mixed feelings about this new "grandchild", however, there are many reasons to rejoice, just as you would after a traditional birth in the family.

Reason # 1 -- Your Children Just Became Parents

Your son/daughter and their partner had strong reasons to pursue an adoption. Not only is there a myriad of "red tape" involved in an adoption, but the commitment required is possibly even greater than in the case of a biological child. This is a time of great joy for your children, and you need to be there rejoicing with them. As the grandfather of a new addition to the family, you need to share the news with those you know, in the same way you would if your daughter had given birth. Hand out the chocolate cigars, take lots of photos, smile more. Let those around you see that you are proud of your kids taking on this vital and important role. They may not have given birth, but you can still rejoice in the fact that your children just became parents.

Reason # 2 -- You are Needed as a Supporter

Your kids may now be adults, but they still need you. A grandfather is also still a father and can continue to provide support in a variety of ways. The addition of a new child to a family always brings some stress, and the potential of stress with an adoption can be greater. By being there for your children, and helping them, you can help lower the stress level. Rejoice in the fact that you are needed for support.

Reason # 3 -- You Have the Potential to Influence a New Life

As a grandfather you will likely have many opportunities to spend quality time with this new grandchild. As they grow you can be there for them in a role that can be less confrontational than sometimes happens with parents. You can share the past through stories, which are not only a way for them to learn more about their parents (!), but are also an important step towards literacy. You may find that your grandchild will sometimes open up to you in a way that they will not with their parents. By being a non-judgemental listener, a grandfather can be a positive influence in a child's life. If you are there for them when they are young, then when they grow and possibly struggle with the fact that they were adopted, your grandchild will still look to you for a listening ear. This child may not be your "blood", but you can still rejoice in the fact that you have the potential to influence a new life.

Three reasons to rejoice over an adoption. Three reasons to get you started. As one grandfather to another, I urge you to come up with more reasons to rejoice. This new child in the family may be adopted, but they are still your grandchild, and in that you can rejoice. <bio>Richard Killey is a father of 3 and a grandfather of 2 who writes about children from a grandfather's point of view.
One of my favorite things about life is the ability to learn. >From a young age my parents instilled in me and my siblings the fact that learning is a privilege that should not be taken lightly. We were never allowed to take school for granted and we were always encouraged to do extra learning. My mom could magically turn almost any activity into an opportunity for learning something new. I loved that about her. She was always bringing us out into the garden with her to learn about growing good vegetables or she was taking us to the market to practice our addition skills. On my thirteenth birthday my parents got me an atlas and told me to enjoy learning about the world from it.

I still own the atlas I got on that birthday.

My parents words came true and it became one of my favorite ways to study and learn. My atlas symbolized for me all of the wonder I held about different parts of the world. My desire to travel and experience other cultures began as I read and studied other countries and continents in my atlas. I wasn't sure where Namibia was, but I was quite sure that someday I wanted to visit Namibia and see the cities that I read in the atlas.

I'm convinced that one of the best things that parents can do for their children is to instill a wonder and a curiousity about the world in them. We cannot afford to keep our children sheltered in our own towns, states or even countries. We must teach them to think about and care about places and peoples that are all around the world. Buying an atlas and studying it together can be a great first step to teaching your children about the world. Or head to a local library and study the atlas there. Get your children asking questions about places they see and then find sources that will teach you about those places. Keep them asking questions even if you cannot answer the questions.

Learning about the world will benefit your children no matter what they end up doing or being. Make a commitment to getting them an atlas and asking them to learn a new country or a new capital city every so often. Teach them to be global thinkers and to care about what is happening in the countries they are learning in the atlas. What a great gift you can give your children. And the world. <bio>Martin Stoleman loves pouring over his atlas with his own son. He thinks all parents need to make their children aware of the world.
Family is the basic social unit. Family represents people living together by ties of marriage, blood or adaptation, thus representing a single household. According to sociology, the family has the primary function of reproducing society; biologically, socially, or both. There are various structures of a family based on the relationship shared between the parent and the children. The different types of family are patrifocal, where the family consists of a father and his child; matrifocal, where the family consists of a mother and her child. Consanguineal family is one which consists of the mother, the child and other people, mainly belonging to the family of the mother. The conjugal family consists of one or more mothers and their children, with other people and one or more spouses.

The parent-child relationship varies due to different cultures. One of the prominent forms is the nuclear family. It consists of the marital pair living with their offspring separately. The joint family is an extension of the nuclear family. Joint family occurs when children of one sex live at their parents' house. In a joint family, the children bring along their spouse to live with them at their parents' house after marriage. A joint family usually consists of an older man and his wife, his sons and unmarried daughters, his sons' wives and children. Members of a joint family share all the task of trade, food gathering and preparation and child rearing.

Children who share one parent but not another are called "half--brothers" or "half--sisters". Children who do not share parents, but whose parents are married, are called "step-brothers" or "step-sisters". Similarly, if a person is married to the parent of a child, but is not the parent of the child themselves; they are called "stepfather" or "stepmother".

A complex family involves more than two adults. It refers to any extended family or to polygamy of any type. A joint family is also known as a complex family. The parents and their children in a joint family live together under a single roof. In a joint family setup, the womenfolk are often housewives and cook for the entire family. The patriarch of the family is usually the oldest male member, who lays down the rules of the family. This kind of setup is fast eroding in many parts of the world. Almost all the urban families are switching over to the nuclear family society. <bio>Author Barney Garcia is a proud contributing author and enjoys writing about many different topics.
