If you have woken up in the morning and you notice that there is a big spot at the end of your nose, the initial instinct is that you will want to squeeze it with the intention of releasing the pus within it. Your aim is to make the spot go away it to not look as ugly. It is even worse when a spot appears on the face and you have an important event that you need to attend. But if you take the time to deal with spots in the correct manner you will be able to see your spots disappear in no time at all.

You need to recall that the best time to treat a spot is when the pus is visible and the spot is at bursting point. It is at this stage that the spot is at its largest state. Make sure that your hands are clean and there is no dirt under the fingernails. It might even be an idea to wear some surgical gloves or to have a clean tissue to hand, and the reason for this is to ensure that there is no possibility of any infection from spreading from area to area.

Take a need and make sure it is sterile and you are best doing this by putting it in some boiling hot water and this will help to kill off any bacteria that is on the needle, and no bacteria is being spread.

Then gently take the needle in gently pierce the spot. The pus will then start to ooze itself out, and you should squeeze very gently until you notice blood appearing. At this stage you need to stop, and within a day or so, the inflammation should have reduced, but it can take a few more days before everything is back to normal.

If you are still noticing that you have some swelling on the skin then you should apply a cold press to that area of the skin. Whenever you have squeezed a spot, you need to apply an appropriate spot treatment in order to help kill off any further infection that may still exist, and to also help to reduce the redness and inflammation.

But you need to remember that squeezing spots is nothing something that should be exercised with frequency and there are only certain stages at which a spot should be squeezed. There are times when you might develop a spot, and it might not actually have a head, or no pus may be visible. In these cases, you just have inflammation on the skin and this is a prime example of when to not squeeze a spot.

In instances like this all you can do is keep the skin clean and to treat it as you would any other spot. Squeezing could be dangerous as it could cause the inflammation to become more worse than it already is.

Another reason that squeezing should be avoided is that if you exert too much force to the skin, once the spot has gone it could be that you are left with a permanent scar on the surface of the skin and there are no creams that are able to remove facial scars.<bio>Get more information about caring for face spots.
There are three basic pregnancy stages that potential moms to be should be aware of. In order, they're the first, second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Each one is very different, and the mother's body will change a lot from the beginning to the end of each one. For example, in the first trimester in particular the mother experiences a lot of changes. From tiredness to breast changes to nausea and vomiting, they may not be as pleasant as one would hope. It turns out, that pregnant glow that some women have might be related to hot flashes! Also, by the end of the first trimester the baby will have grown from a cluster of cells to having a heartbeat, reflexes and the ability to move its tiny little limbs!

The second trimester is one of the easier pregnancy stages. The mother will have to start buying maternity clothes as the baby will start to show. The mother might also start having troubles sleeping. On the baby end of things, it will go from being the size of a cherry to around ten inches in length. The child will also start growing hair all over its body and its senses will begin developing, as well as begin kicking quite frequently.

The third trimester is the craziest of all the pregnancy stages. The mother will have to urinate quite frequently as the baby puts extra pressure on her bladder. It might be a good idea for the mother to look into breastfeeding and child birthing classes to prepare for the inevitable. The third trimester ends when the baby is born, usually about 40 weeks from the date of conception. Couples who are expecting a baby might also get good use out of a pregnancy calendar that can illustrate what your body is going through over the course of the three pregnancy stages. <bio>If you're pregnant or are thinking about having a baby, visit the Pregnancy Forums at http://www.ThePregnancyForum.com/ today.
Ovarian cancer, as in all other forms of the disease, is graded by treating doctors according to its level of advancement. The stages of ovarian cancer are graded one to four, with four being the most serious stage.

Stage one of cancer of the ovaries is the least advanced stage. This is where the cancer has been discovered relatively early in its development and has been confined to the ovaries only. In stage one, as in all the other stages of the disease spread, there are also sub stages, and they run as follows:

Stage 1a: The cancer is contained inside one ovary

Stage 1b: The cancer has spread to both ovaries

Stage 1c: The cancer is contained to one ovary and there is some evidence of cancerous cells appearing on the ovary's surface.

Stage 1d: The cancer is contained to one ovary and there is some evidence of cancerous cells found in the abdominal fluids.

Stage 1e: The cancer is contained to one ovary and the ovary ruptures either before or during surgery.

In stage two of ovarian cancer, the cancer has spread to be outside the ovaries. The sub stages of stage two run as follows:

Stage2a: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb

Stage 2b: The cancer has grown into other tissues in the pelvis. These can be either the rectum or the bladder.

Stage 2c: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as other tissues in the pelvis as well as there is some cancer on the surface of at least one ovary

Stage 2d: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as other tissues in the pelvis as well as cancer cells are found in abdominal fluid during surgery.

Stage 2e: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as the ovary ruptures before or during surgery

Stage three of the ovarian cancer's development means the cancer has spread outside the pelvis into the abdominal cavity. The cancer is also designated as being stage there if cancerous cells are found in the lymph nodes of the upper abdomen or groin.

The sub stages of stage three run as follows:

Stage 3a: Cancer can be seen under the microscope in tissue taken from the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum)

Stage 3b: Tumorous growths smaller than 2cm are discovered on the lining of the abdomen

Stage 3c: Tumorous growths smaller than 2cm are discovered on the lining of the abdomen, or the lymph nodes in the upper abdomen, or the groin or behind the womb contain cancer.

Stage four is the most advanced of all forms of ovarian cancer, where the cancer has spread into other body organs such as the liver or lungs. <bio>Fred Camaros is a medical researcher and writer.
The first steps in order to determine whether a patient has appendicitis or not are the patient's medical history and a physical series of exams. The abdominal lower right portion has a great sensitivity when it is pressed and the patient may also have increased fever. If the pain gets worse in the moment of releasing pressure, it means that infection got to the peritoneum causing rebound sensitivity.

Leucocytes Count

The number of leucocytes inside human body increases in case of infection. This increase is produced in different degrees following the stages of inflammation. This is not a specific situation for appendicitis, also occurring in case of other diseases so that this method is not enough to give a diagnosis so that other tests are necessary in addition.

The analysis of urine

By means of the microscope, the composition of urine is analyzed to establish whether besides leucocytes and red blood cells there are also bacteria. But this procedure is not recommended in case of inflammation or affection of the kidneys or bladder, because it looses accuracy. Diseases of the urinary system can often be confused with appendicitis and it is also possible for urine to appear normal in case of appendicitis.

Abdominal X-Ray

For children, X-ray scan proved itself very effective in the identification of faeces that block the appendix, this method having sometimes the same good results in diagnosing appendicitis in adults.

Ultrasound

This procedure implies the identification of internal organs by means of sound waves, but the appendix is perceived only in half of the cases. The impossibility to perceive this structure doesn't necessarily exclude the possibility of inflammation. Ultrasound is more effective in women because of its capacity to identify ovarian or fallopian tubes problems that can be taken for appendicitis.

Barium Enema

This method uses an insertion of liquid barium through the anus to fill the large intestine. This test usually identifies modifications of colon's shape that might suggest an inflammation and also the presence of other affections such as Crohn's disease.

CT scan

Besides the cases of pregnancy CT scan is very effective in identifying a possible abscess and excluding the possibility of other conditions with similarly symptoms to those of appendicitis.

Laparoscopy

Through a small camera attached to a thin tube inserted in the abdominal region, a general view of the internal organs, including the appendix in obtained. This method is very useful because it also provides the possibility of immediate surgery but it requires general anaesthesia.

No test can tell for sure whether the patient has appendicitis or not, so, in case of suspicion, the patient has to be supervised by a doctor for a while, take one or more of the tests above or have a surgical intervention. <bio>For more information visit http://www.whatcausesappendicitis.com </bio>

Alcohol and health effects of alcohol on the body can be short term or long term effects. The consumption of alcohol and health related problems can occur over a short time frame, while other conditions and long term effects of alcohol on the body may only happen following years of alcohol abuse.

Alcohol comes into direct contact with the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach and intestines as well as being absorbed into the bloodstream. Health problems can begin as headaches, feeling nauseated, sore throat or indigestion. However, if alcohol abuse continues, these and other alcohol and health symptoms can develop into more serious illnesses and diseases.

Here are examples of short term health effects of alcohol on the body:

• Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Hangovers - excessive alcohol consumption can result in the body trying to protect itself by getting rid of the alcohol and vomiting. Alcohol and health and the central nervous system are related since alcohol affects a person's sense of balance and orientation, leading to a feeling of nausea and/or dizziness. Hangovers are partly due to the body's dehydration caused by alcohol consumption, and hangover effects of alcohol on the body may be felt a few hours after consuming alcohol.

• Loss of Muscle Control - slurred speech is one of the effects of alcohol on the body. Impaired judgement and poor coordination are alcohol and health effects that can lead to falls and accidents.

• Adverse Interactions with Medications - alcohol is known to interact negatively with at least 100 medications. For example, antihistamines taken with alcohol can increase the drowsiness that this medication by itself can cause. Large doses of the painkiller acetaminophen taken together when consuming alcohol increases the risk of liver damage.

• Pregnancy Risks - alcohol can cause numerous birth defects, the most serious being fetal alcohol syndrome. Babies born with fetal alcohol syndrome will have physical abnormalities, mental impairment and problems with behavior. To avoid negative alcohol and health effects during pregnancy, do not drink alcohol during pregnancy as no one knows exactly how much alcohol causes birth deffects.

Because alcohol and health effects can involve many organs in the body, long-term heavy drinking puts you at risk for developing serious health conditions and illnesses. Here are examples of long term effects of alcohol on the body:

• Liver Inflammation and Cirrhosis of the Liver - liver inflammation symptoms include abnormal yellowing of the skin, eyeballs and urine, fever and abdominal pain. And in the case of cirrhosis, as many as one in five heavy drinkers will develop cirrhosis of the liver. Alcohol is especially harmful to the liver since the liver is needed to metabolize alcohol. Alcohol destroys liver cells, and it destroys the ability of the liver to regenerate new cells.

• Cancer - long term heavy drinkers increase their risk for certain forms of cancer such as cancer of the mouth, throat and esophagus and colon.

• Heart disease - long term heavy drinking increases a person's risk for developing high blood pressure and heart disease.

• Pancreaitis - long term heavy drinking can result in developing inflammation of the pancreas, called pancreaitis. The pancreas are needed for food digestion, and pancreaitis symptoms include severe abdominal pain and weight loss. Pancreaitis can be life-threatening.

Additional long term negative alcohol and health effects on the body include damage to the brain, nerve damage, bleeding in the esophagus, erectile dysfunction in men, insomnia and depression.
Cold sore stages normally follow a predictable pattern, but they may be slightly different for you. Let us take a look.

The most desirable of all stages of a cold sore, if there is such a thing, is the latent stage. The herpes virus is asleep and hiding in the nerve ganglia. There are no symptoms and no problems. Nearly a third of all who are infected with these herpes simplex viruses will never experience the active cold sore stages mentioned next. A blood test would be the only way of knowing if they carry this virus, or its anti-bodies. For the rest of us, read on.

THE 5 ACTIVE COLD SORE STAGES YOU NEED TO KNOW:

1. PRODROME - During this beginning stage of a cold sore, the herpes virus senses the conditions are right for successful replication. It will then wake up and move to the surface of your face through the fibers of the nerve it originally picked as home. You can actually feel the virus movement as a tingling, itching sensation. Some report a burning or dryness. The next stage will occur anywhere between 2 hours and 2 days. You can delay, or even prevent, the virus from replicating by applying a good treatment at this stage. My suggestion is to get ice on the target area as soon as you feel these warning symptoms.

2. INFLAMMATION and PRE-SORE - During this stage of a cold sore, the virus particles enter the nerve cells. The irritation causes swelling and redness. The sore vesicles appear. These are small pimple-like red blisters that break out individually or in groups. They are quite painful to the touch. Additional symptoms that first appear at this stage are headaches, fever and swollen glands.

3. OPEN SORE - At this stage of a cold sore, the vesicles break open and merge into a single, big, open ulcer. This is probably the most painful stage. It definitely is the most contagious stage as a clear fluid weeps from the sore. This thick fluid is absolutely teeming with new virus that can easily infect another area of your own body, or someone else. Do not touch the sore with your fingers - use an alcohol soaked tissue.

And do not kiss anyone, anywhere.

4. CRUST AND SCAB - At this cold sore stage, a yellowish crust or scab will form over the open wound. Still very painful at this stage, it is even more painful when you move your mouth and the scab cracks. Also, highly contagious fluid will weep out each time. As new skin forms under the crust, itching, pain and much discomfort will continue. The scab may fall off and re-form one or more times during this healing period. The herpes virus is now retreating back into hiding until the next opportune moment.

5. POST SCAB AND FINAL HEALING - At this cold sore stage your scab is gone and the new skin is visible. Under the new skin, however, healing continues as the millions of destroyed cells are replaced. There usually is redness in the area until this healing is complete. This could take from 2 to 15 days, depending on your healing speed and any concurrent stress situations. The waiting makes this the most frustrating stage of a cold sore.

These stages and symptoms occur over a period of about three to four weeks, depending on your current health level, stress, and the care you apply. They are not pleasant and can be dangerous if caution is not taken. Careful personal hygiene and maintaining a high level of social responsibility will greatly reduce the risk and effects of each of the cold sore stages. <bio>Denny Bodoh is a 35-year newspaper veteran and dedicated natural health research writer.
Metabolizing and detoxifying alcohol is almost entirely the responsibility of the liver. So it's not unexpected that overly more drunkenness hurts the liver more than any new place in the system. In the United States, thick alcohol consumption in considered the almost significant danger element for chronic liver disease. During the 1980s, intoxicating fatty liver, intense intoxicating hepatitis, and intoxicating cirrhosis jointly accounted for 46 percent of deaths from chronic liver disease and 49 percentage of hospitalizations for liver disease.

The earliest evidence of liver harm id plump accretion, which can seem after simply a few days of thick drunkenness. Fatty liver recedes with abstinence but persists with continued drinking. Is fatty liver in and of itself harmful? The answer is condition. However, studies show 5 to 15 percent of people with alcoholic fatty liver who continue to drink develop liver fibrosis (excessive fibrous tissue) or cirrhosis (scarring) in only 5 to 10 years.

Fat accretion is one of several factors resulting in alcohol liver disease. With routine, higher intakes of alcohol, alcohol and acetaldehyde continually irritate and ignite the liver, producing intoxicating hepatitis (relentless inflammation of the liver) in 10 to 35 percent of thick drinkers. The incendiary procedure too generates available radicals that best off at liver cubicle. The destruction of liver cells becomes self-perpetuating, especially if antioxidant nutrients are unavailable to help break the cycle. If the intestines also have been damaged, toxins, including those produced by the gut's microorganisms. May be able to cross the intestinal barrier into circulation and worsen inflammation.

Alcoholic hepatitis may be treatable, but it's frequently deadly. Alcoholic hepatitis too predisposes an individual to liver cancer and cirrhosis, conditions that are normally deadly. With continued inflammation, the liver makes undue collagen and becomes fibrous (fibrotic liver disease) and scarred (cirrhosis). This ultimately kills liver cells by choking off tiny blood vessels that nourish them. About 10 to 20 percent of heavy drinkers develop cirrhosis.

Dietary changes may be helpful in liver disease, but abstinence from alcohol is essential to treatment. Reducing dietary fats somewhat reduces fat accumulation in the liver. Adequate micronutrients and a healthful balance of macronutrients probably speed recuperation from liver disease in their earlier stages. In last-stage liver disease, dietary restrictions, often of proteins, may slow disease progression or improve symptom. <bio>http://www.all4cirrhosis.com </bio>

Just exactly what is going on in your body when you close your eyes and faultlessly? A perfect answer to that is the sleep stages.

Even though you are at rest, not every part of your body is resting and quiet. In particular, the brain is a busy little beaver sitting out all sorts of signals, which are helping to control the stages of sleep through which you are passing. Muscle activity and rapid eye movements change throughout the various stages of sleep as well.

Currently there are five different stages of sleep which have been identified by researchers throughout the years. And on a good night of sleep you will travel through each and every one of the five stages of sleep. In fact you will pass through them several times during the night. While there are five distinct stages of sleep, the first four stages of sleep are logged to gather and are known as the State non--rapid eye movement or NREM. The fifth and final stage of sleep is the stage known as rapid eye movement or REM sleep.

The various states of NREM and REM are distinguished by the changes in the brain wave activity that takes place during sleep. REM sleep is also characterized by irregular but rapid breathing and heartbeat, an increase in blood pressure, an increase in brain activity and essentially absent muscle activity.

NREM and REM sleep take place throughout the time you are asleep. Typically during the time that you are sleeping during the first one third of the night will consist of NREM sleep, while the sleep you enjoyed during the last one third of the night is typically REM sleep. It is from this stage of sleep from which you generally awake.

During the stages of sleep the first stage of sleep is known as a transitional period. During this time you can be quite easily awakened and will experience the repeating cycle of falling asleep and waking up several times. It is during this first stage of sleep that you began to feel more sleepy and begin to lose control over your body's muscles. It is also during this time that your eye movements begin to slow. Some people even experience a sudden jerking of the muscles during this stage of sleep.

The stage of sleep that takes up the majority of the night is known as stage two. It is during stage two that your eyes stop moving, your heart rate slows, your body temperature lowers and your brain waves slow. There may also be short bursts of eye movement during stage two as well.

Once the body reaches a deep sleep this is known as stages three and four. During these two stages of sleep the brain waves are extremely slow. During this stage the muscles and eyes are also completely still.

Always following a period of NREM sleep, the REM stage takes place throughout the sleep period and makes up approximately a quarter of the total sleep period. The first REM occurs at the end of Stage 1 and lasts about 10 minutes and the final REM stage lasts around 60 minutes. So ff you sleep for 8 or 9 hours, then you will generally experience REM sleep 4 or 5 times.

Repeating throughout the sleep period, numerous sleep cycles take place during a single sleep episode. So as you continue to progress through the sleep cycles during a sleep period, the amount of your REM sleep naturally increases.

The important thing to remember is that your body requires uninterrupted movement through the sleep cycles in order to achieve the best-quality sleep that your body needs. So know that you understand the sleep cycles, you can determine what works best for you to get your best night of sleep. <bio>For more important information on getting a good night's sleep be sure to visit http://www.sleep-good.com where you will find advice and tips on sleep habits, insomnia, sleep apnea and more </bio>

Alzheimers is a progressive disease that can take up to a complete two decades to fully run its course. The disease moves forward at its own pace, leaving devastation in its path. With an estimated five million Americans diagnoses with this condition, there is little doubt the condition has impacted a tremendous number of people. How fast or slow the condition will progress is never known, but there are marked stages of Alzheimers.

The stages of Alzheimers number at seven, although they are often clumped into three - early, middle and end. Each one of the seven comes in its own time with no two patients following exactly the same path. There are some stereotypical markers for each of the stages of Alzheimers, however.

The stages of Alzheimers and their symptoms are:

Stage 1 - There are no visible symptoms during the earliest formation of Alzheimers.

Stage 2 - This stage will present with very minor memory issues, but these problems are quite easily brushed off to distraction, normal forgetfulness or other similar causes. The signs here can include such things as misplacing items, forgetting words that should be familiar and so on. The symptoms will not likely be noticeable to anyone since they are so easy to brush off.

Stage 3 - It is at this point some people are diagnosed. The symptoms here can include such things as forgetting names, misplacing objects, loss of ability to plan, poor performance at work or in social settings and even an inability to retain information or remember names.

Stage 4 - Diagnosis is often made during this stage, but not always. Some characterize this stages as mild Alzheimers. It is here that loss of personal history might begin along with an inability to handle challenging mental tasks.

Stage 5 - It is very difficult to deny that problems exist when this stage is reached. Also known as "moderate" Alzheimers, this stage delivers large memory gaps, difficulty with normal social functioning and even the inability to recall names of family, friends and perhaps even the patient's own name. Date and time confusion might also be present.

Stage 6 - This is considered an extension of the mid stage, however, the symptoms will become quite harsh at this point. Some patients will have trouble dressing and feeding themselves. It is very likely they will be unable to recall names and they might be prone to wandering.

Stage 7 - This is the final of the stages of Alzheimers. This one delivers some very serious blows for the patient, but more generally the family members involved. Symptoms in this stage include loss of ability to recognize speech, total inability to eat and toilet without help and even an inability sit without help, smile and more.

The stages of Alzheimers progress at their own pace for each patient. The progression has been noted to take as much as 20 years, but has also been seen in as little as five. There is no way to tell in advance how slow or fast the stages will be progressed through. The only thing that is certain at this point is that no cure is known and treatments to slow the progression don't work for everyone and they do not work indefinitely. <bio>For more information on Alzheimers, try visiting http://www.helpwithalzheimers.com - a website that specializes in providing Alzheimers related tips, advice and resources to include information on stages of Alzheimers. </bio>

A rotary table is designed to be used in conjunction with vertical mills. When a rotary table is put on a vertical mill what you create is a machine that is theoretically capable of reproducing itself.

A standard milling machine set-up usually involves aligning the work with the table and then with the spindle. The table can be accurately moved with the hand wheels making this a simple operation for most. Aligning a part on a rotary table however can be difficult because the work has to be clamped into position. This is not always easy when you are working alone.

Most experts suggest that you start by doing the rotary table work first which can eliminate the need for precision aligning. Aligning the milling spindle with the rotary table can be done by indicating the hole in the center of the rotary table. You then need to spot drill the center on the work you wish to have line up with the rotary table. Finally put a pointer in the spindle that is accurate. After doing this set the work under the spindle and lower the head until it engages with the center mark at this point clamp the part down. And there you have it, locked and ready to work with.

Rotary stages are used in industrial robots, fiber optics and photonics, vision systems, machine tools, assembly, semiconductor equipment, medical component laser machining, electronic manufacturing, and other high-performance industrial automation applications. Rotary stages provide the best angular positioning and velocity control. Applications range from indexing to high-speed laser machining to precision wafer inspection. All of these applications are fine tuned to the best numbers possible using rotary stages.

There are several types of rotary stages at this point in the game however the ones getting the most press are the laser guided rotary stages. Utilizing lasers helps create the most absolute positioning to date. Some of the newer rotary stages are ideal for applications that require X, Y and q degrees of movement for ambient and high vacuum environments. They tend to feature high resolution, high stability as well as being available for ambient and high vacuum environments. Experts also agree that having the choice of lateral and rotational degrees of freedom also lends that extra precision that is needed in delicate jobs as well as the strength for larger projects. <bio>http://www.intellidrives.com/ </bio>

Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is one of the most common forms of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic illness that is characterized mostly by the inflammation of the lining surrounding joints. This lining is called synovium. Rheumatoid arthritis can often lead to long term joint damage, thus leading to:

* chronic pain * loss of function * disability

The following paragraphs will discuss rheumatoid arthritis, as well as how it can progress.

The Nature of Rheumatoid Arthritis

As stated before, rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease. What this means is it may never go away entirely, even with proper treatment. Some people who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis can find treatment methods that provide them with temporary relief of the symptoms, however, the disease is never cured.

Progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis often progresses in three stages. In the first stage, the synovial lining located where the joint meets the bone end may begin to swell. This can lead to pain, stiffness, and even redness around the joint area. The swelling of the synovium is often caused by an immune system reaction. It is still unknown what can trigger the immune system reaction, which leads to the lymphocytes to expel chemical messengers to the affected joints. These messengers are called cytokines.

The second stage of rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the synovial lining around the affected joints begins to thicken. This is caused by rapid cell division known as pannus. This stage of rheumatoid arthritis can lead to more pain for the patient suffering with this disease.

During the third and final stage, when the synovium has thickened, the swollen cells around the joint area release enzymes. The enzymes actually contain and release chemicals that can do harm to bone and cartilage tissues, that make up a joint. After the bone and cartilage are attacked, the joint often loses its alignment and shape, resulting in even more pain, and sometimes loss of movement.

On top of being considered a chronic disease, rheumatoid arthritis can also be considered a systemic disease. What this means is that rheumatoid arthritis can also affect other organs in your body, such as:

* skin * blood vessels * lungs * heart

It is very important to see a doctor if you think you may be suffering with rheumatoid arthritis.

Diagnosis

In order to effectively treat and combat rheumatoid arthritis, it is crucial to get an early diagnosis. Many research studies have concluded that aggressive treatment in early stages of rheumatoid arthritis can be extremely effective in slowing down the progression. While it can not be cured, most treatment approaches to rheumatoid arthritis are to reduce the pain, and if possible, slow down the progression.

In order to be properly diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, one must see a doctor so he can run a battery of tests. These tests can include x-rays, blood tests, as well as urine tests. These tests are necessary so that the doctor can diagnose you with the correct type of arthritis you may have. He will look for joint inflammation, as well as check the skin for rheumatoid nodules, which is a common sign of rheumatoid arthritis. <bio>Sarah Thomas provides articles on wellness and health http://www.zoneherbal.com.
Many times acne becomes difficult to treat with topical and oral medication. It does not give response to the treatment and doctors' resort to small surgical procedures to treat acne and reduce pain. Cystic and nodulastic acne become quite painful because of inflammation and infection. With surgery this pain is alleviated. Let us know more about the kind of surgical procedures commonly used to treat acne.

Acne Treatment-surgical drainage

This procedure is performed on large cystic acne that is full of sebum, pus, dead skin cells and body fluids. The doctor cuts and drains the cyst. This reduces the pain of the cyst and cures it faster. If the pus is left inside the cysts, it may hurt the deep skin and cause more scars. By draining the acne, all infection is removed and acne is treated with antibiotics to heal.

Acne Treatment-surgical extraction

Whiteheads and blackheads are extracted surgically. This extraction needs skill otherwise pores become larger. If sterile tools are not used, it can also cause infection. If done by unskilled hands with use of non-sterile equipment, it may lead to further infection and scarring. So take care. Whiteheads and blackheads should be always be extracted by experts.

Acne Treatment- other surgical procedures

Some other procedures are also used to treat acne. They are not strictly surgical but do not involve medications. Chemical Peeling, microdermabrasion and light/laser are some of these procedures.

In chemical peeling glycolic acid is commonly used to remove the upper layer of dead skin. The peel is done with a mild solution of glycolic acid. The Glycolic Acid breaks the bond between the dead skin cells and fresh skin. This treatment is used to treat acne in the beginning stages. In microdermabrasion, very tiny particles are thrown at the skin at high speed to remove the dead layer of skin cells and also loosen the whiteheads and blackheads. This Procedure cannot be used on inflamed acne. It can be used at the early stages only. Different types of lasers are now used to treat acne. Laser is not a common therapy for acne and is still under testing. Blue light is commonly used to treat acne. It kills the bacteria P.acnes and reduces inflammation. Green-yellow light and heat energy are used in combination to kill the bacteria and shrink the sebaceous glands.

This article is only for informative purposes.
Arthritis is often associated with people in their 50s or older. But nowadays, more and more younger people are showing signs of this joint-related disease. What exactly are the causes of joint inflammation and what are the best arthritis treatment? Inflammation of the joints can result from previous injuries, like tibial plateau fracture, which affects certain sensitive cartilages and muscle tissues. A person can also develop joint swelling and pain if two or more of his or her family members have gout or any related illness. Needless to say, age is also one of the most significant factors in determining the onset of swelling of the joints. As a person gets older, his or her bones tend to be weaker and more fragile as one of the results of the natural laws of aging. But this doesn't necessarily mean teenagers or the twenty-somethings can be complacent. There are cases of brittle joints among younger age brackets because of extraneous determinants like weight and existing illness.

It is understandable that obese or overweight persons have greater tendencies of exhausting or wearing out their bones. Since weight is identified as a factor in causing joint inflammation, doctors suggest arthritis treatment can be in the form of improving one's diet. There are specific diets, like meals heavy in unsaturated fat and cholesterol, that make a person even more susceptible in experiencing joint pain and swelling. On the other hand, foods rich in certain minerals and vitamins are one's best ally in preventing early signs of bone inflammation. Choose foods with high nutritional value and specifically contain Vitamins K and E, which promote healthier bones. To alleviate inflammation, a person should boost his or her intake of vitamins B12 and B6. If beneficial minerals like zinc and copper are not usually found on your daily meal plan, take health supplements that offer these specific nutrients.

There are also certain medications supposedly aimed at combating arthritis. Some of these drugs don't come without hazardous side effects so it is still best to follow natural remedies to prevent or cure joint inflammation. Arthritis treatment need not cost someone a fortune. The safest and surest way is still through sticking to a healthy diet, or even particular exercise routines, or whatever a doctor advised a patient to do. One should not wait to get older before he starts to take care of his bones and joints. A person may not realize the importance of bone health until he experiences the premature tell-tale signs of joint swelling and inflammation. <bio>For more valuable information on Arthritis and Arthritis treatment please visit http://www.arthritis-hub.com </bio>

Although the exact causes of acne are not clear. It is the visible result of a disturbance between hormones, bacteria and inflammation taking place in the oil glands(sebaceous) found in the hair follicle.

As this imbalance advances, the gland becomes overactive and creates a greater amount of oil. The inside of the follicle wall becomes saturated and more sticky. Which builds up and becomes blocked creating comedones(blackheads and whiteheads).

The acne bacteria feeds, grows and multiplies in the oil from the blocked pores. The bacteria then releases chemicals which alerts white cells in the blood. In the bodies attempt to eliminate these chemicals, inflammation is causes. Resulting in papules and pustules(pimples and zits).

The inflamed pores(hair follicle) and the oil gland causes the skin around it to also become inflamed creating nodules(lumps and cysts). The inflammation also harms collagen cells. The cell then becomes imbalanced. If it produces less collagen this create what is called thinning of the skin or depressed scaring. If it produces more collagen, this will thicken the scar.

Exterior factor that aggravate your acne do so in the same way. It is a combined effect of the acne bacteria, hormones(male - testosterone and dihydrotestosterone) and a overactive oil gland blocking pores and creating inflammation. When the pores are blocked at the surface it encourages more oil production creating bacteria and inflammation which lead to pimples or zits.

Hair spray, oil based cosmetics, oils and greases can contribute to blocking the hair follicle at the surface. Sports equipment such as helmets, pads and hats. damp, humide or sweaty clothes that are in contact with your skin for an extended amount of time can also block pores.

Andogenic hormonale medication found in steroids and progestin, found in birth control pills, can increase oil production in the glands which aggravates acne.

Bad eating habits and poor hygiene will not cause acne. This is the most common of acne myths. However, over-washing can cause irritation and worsen your inflammation. Washing twice daily with a salicylic acid(2%) face wash will clear your pores without dehydrating your skin. <bio>Now that you know what causes acne. Are you ready to know how to cure it.
Have you become frustrated at one time or another when trying to achieve a new goal? It can sometimes seem as if you are struggling to reach your destination. And the last thing you want to do is become discouraged or self-deprecating. Yet, this does tend to happen to the best of us.

While a proficient achiever knows how to set and pursue a goal, there are other factors that enter into the process toward developing excellence. Knowing about this process can help alleviate getting stuck and also bring greater clarity and value toward achieving a goal.

When learning something new, most of us go through a 4-stage process. Think in terms of a baby who does not get around on its own, but then learns to crawl, eventually walks and finally knows how to run. If you see the big picture, then you are more likely to work through the rough spots.

Setting and working toward a goal is very similar to the four stages of learning. So let us take a look at these stages and consider how this process applies to the journey of goal achievement.

The learning or achievement process can become difficult when bad feelings surface because one makes a mistake or hits a roadblock. These feelings are reflected in self-judgments such as, 'I am not doing this right,' 'I am not good enough,' 'I can never learn this,' and so on.

Ironically, not getting it right early on and making mistakes are vital steps in the learning process. Yet too often our attention goes to trying to avoid the bad feelings, rather than to the learning or task at hand. Understanding and working through the four stages of learning a skill or achieving a goal can help keep the process focused, and not about feeling frustrated or discouraged.

Here are the four stages of the learning process:

1. Unconscious Incompetence: 'I do not know that I do not know how to do this.' This is the stage of blissful ignorance before learning begins.

2. Conscious Incompetence: 'I know that I do not know how to do this, yet.' This is the most difficult stage, where learning begins and where the most self-judgments are formed.

3. Conscious Competence: 'I know that I know how to do this.' This stage of learning is easier than the second stage, but it is still uncomfortable and self-conscious.

4. Unconscious Competence: 'What, you say I did something well?' The final stage of learning a skill is when it has become a natural part of us; we do not have to think about it.

Do you see how these four stages apply when setting and pursuing a goal? Remember, while you may know all the steps for properly setting a goal and going after it, there are still other factors that you must process along the way. Keeping the four stages of learning in mind can definitely help in making the goal achievement journey more effective.<bio>PROFIT NOW from the highly acclaimed FREE AUDIO CD on Breakthrough Success at http://DiscoverMillionDollarDesire.com Also go to http://DiscoverMillionDollarDesire.com/blog for more articles to advance personal and career success.</bio>

Every once in a while you'll stumble across an expert whose words and passion sink right into your soul and so it was the day I listened to Dr. Joseph Hibbeln of the National Institutes of Health on a radio broadcast as he explained why we have chronic inflammation and what it all means. Dr. Hibblen is a psychiatrist and lipid biochemist known as one of the world's leading authorities on Omega 3.

When you cut your finger and it turns red, that's inflammation of the good kind that rushes in to heal the wound. But when it gets out of control from the very food we eat (Omega 3 Seed Oil), inflammation turns in and attacks the body in dreadful ways.

See TIME cover story, 2/04, Inflammation, The Secret Killer, Missing Link Between Heart Attacks, Cancer, Alzheimer's and other Disease and What You Can Do About It.

What is Omega 3 seed oil? Dr. Hibbeln defines seed oils as "literally vegetable oils that have been squeezed from seeds and primarily those seeds are soybean oil overwhelmingly and to some extent, corn oil, safflower and other oils and the big deal is that in these oils the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega-3 fatty acids is about 10 to one, whereas in our diets and evolution that ratio was about one to one. So you had a one to one balance to inflammation when we were evolving and now it's a 10 to one balance in favor of inflammation because of the predominances in the seed oils."

So, we have Omega 3 from fish oil, and we have Omega 3 from seed oil, which correctly should be labeled Omega 6 but without making a fuss over the confusing distinction, when you see Omega 3 on products in your grocery store, ask yourself one question. Is the source of the Omega 3 on that product seed oil? You can't very well put Omega 3 from fatty fish in cereal now, can you? And what do we need less of? Dr. Hibbeln explains why it is so critical to know the difference.

"Omega-3 fatty acids, (from fish oil) when those fats are swimming around in your blood stream and your immune system, they produce compounds which reduce inflammation and help to prevent heart disease; and the American Heart Association now recommends that people eat fish three to four times a week or take fish oil supplements to help prevent the progression of heart disease. It's more than 38 peer-reviewed studies which have been systematically reviewed.

Omega -3 fatty acids are one of those two polyunsaturated fatty acids. Polyunsaturated simple means that it has many double bonds. The key here is that there's two families of polyunsaturated fatty acids, the Omega-3 fatty acids which you find primarily from fish oil, and the Omega-6 fatty acids from seed oils =96 eventually the body converts them into a compound called arachidonic acid and arachidonic acid is good in low amounts, but in high amounts it makes a lot of inflammatory compounds. It makes compounds that make your joints ache, compounds that increase the inflammation in your blood stream and leads to arterial sclerosis.

How big a deal is arachidonic acid? It is such a big deal we've created billion dollar industries for the production of Vioxx and Celebrex and Ibuprofen, all of which their main purpose is to keep arachidonic acid from being converted into these inflammatory compounds. But remember, the origin of arachidonic acid is from what you eat. It's from seed oils. Take away the seed oils or swap them out, your body will not be full of so much arachidonic acid and will not have a pro-inflammatory predisposition."

And that makes me very glad I discovered the healing benefits of Omega 3's From Fatty Fish (capitalized intentionally) a long time ago. I won't buy an Omega 3-laced grocery store product today and add more of the wrong Omega 3 to the inflammation level in my body. <bio>Lois Smithers has spent years researching Omega 3's and other sea-based health solutions.
There are many obvious reasons to take good care of you're teeth and gums, for instance having white, attractive teeth, fresh breath, no cavities, less dental trips, gum disease, and gingivitis. However, researches have discovered recently that having good oral hygiene can also lead to a healthy heart.

Research has shown that people who have periodontal also have a much increased risk of having thicker carotid arteries which can lead to heart disease and stroke. This means that, the higher amount of plaque you have in your mouth is going to equal higher amounts of plaque in your heart and arteries. The connection between these two diseases is not entirely known, but scientists speculate that periodontal disease may start a surge of chemical reactions that can cause inflammation throughout the body.

In order to protect yourself from the scary proposition of heart disease you should not only be more active and eat a healthy diet, but you should also start taking better care of your teeth. Did you know that there are more bacteria in your mouth than there is on the surface of the earth? And the if that bacteria is not cleaned out regularly it will settle in your mouth and cause gum disease. Most people don't want to admit that they are at risk for having gum disease but in fact, about 90% of adults are in at least the beginning stages of gum disease, and those people (including children) who are diabetic are at an even higher risk for contracting the disease. But, not all the news is bad, there are many ways you can prevent gum disease, and consequently, also help prevent heart problems. The steps you should take are as follows: brush your teeth twice a day, floss your teeth once a day, visit your dentist twice a year, and learn about and look for the early stages of gum disease.

Maybe you are worried that you might already have gum disease. If that is the case, you should be looking for the following warning signs. Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing, red, swollen, and tender gums, gums that have pulled away from the tooth, exposing part of the root or making the teeth appear longer, bad breath, and permanently loose teeth. If you do have any of the above symptoms, please contact your doctor as soon as possible because if gum disease is left untreated in will only get worse. <bio>Barney Garcia writes about many different topics.
Though many women never think about the stages of endometriosis until they are told they have it, it is probably a more common condition than most realize. Endometriosis is the build up of endometrial tissue growing outside of the uterus. This can lead to pain and infertility issues.

There are some treatments for it, but no cure. Any women of reproductive age may develop this condition, but the exact reason why some get it and some don't seems to be a mystery. Though it is estimated that only five percent of women (of reproductive age) have endometriosis, the numbers might be much higher. What is more confusing is that the early stages of endometriosis can go unnoticed.

Some studies suggest that women who begin their periods at a very young age might have a slightly higher risk for developing endometriosis. It would also seem that those with this condition have shorter cycles, with heavier and longer periods than other women of reproductive age. These alone are not signs that a person has endometriosis, but they are similarities in diagnosed cases. Though a genetic link is not certain, a woman is more likely to suffer from endometriosis if a close female member of family, such as her mother, aunt or sister, has it.

Some of the early stages of this condition are quite vague, and a diagnosis might be a matter of elimination. One of the first signs is experiencing problems conceiving. This may not be evident early because there is a current trend for women to put off having children until their thirties for a variety of reasons. Infertility has many causes though, so this sign is often an ambiguous one. When other reasons for infertility are ruled out, a doctor might then begin to look for signs of endometriosis if they are not exceedingly obvious.

Another of the early signs of endometriosis is an unusual amount or increase in pain during a woman's period. Though some women notice this, others have had this problem for a long time and they think it is the way it is supposed to be. The cramping, bloating, and pain will be more severe, and the periods will tend to last longer. A woman might also notice that she has abnormal spotting before her period begins. Some with this condition complain of pain during intercourse. However, some severe cases may present no pain what-so-ever. When that happens, diagnosis can only come in the later stages, and can be trickier to treat.

While treatment is much easier if identified early, this often isn't possible. Treatment might be quicker and easier if found early, and fertility might be restored much quicker, even if the window might still be somewhat slim.

Many women with this condition find some relief though hormone therapy, and are able to have children and enjoy relief from their symptoms. Some women with this think they may never have children, but go on to have large families. There is no cure, but if the early stages of endometriosis are noticed, it can be managed much more easily. <bio>Grab your free copy of Shelley Ross' brand new Endometriosis Newsletter here http://www.treatendometriosis.com/?source=is which is overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you relieve Endometriosis symptoms naturally. </bio>

A cyst is a severe form of acne that is filled with bacteria, white blood cells and dead skin. Cysts can be very painful and extend inside the skin damaging the skin tissue. In nodulocystic acne, cysts and nodules form together. Some experts say that cysts are severely infected nodules and should be called as such. Treatment of cysts is a challenging task. Because cysts invariably form scars, they need to be treated as soon as possible and before they damage more skin cells.

Acne Treatment - stages of acne

Acne begins with plugged skin pores and develops in stages. In the first stage, acne usually begins in the form of whiteheads and blackheads (caused by plugged pores of the skin). Blackheads are called open comedones. Whiteheads are called closed comedones. The blackheads and whiteheads are the first stage of acne. The second stage is pimples or zits. They are medically known as papules and pustules. Pimples form when the acne gets inflamed. Some people suffer from third stage of serious acne, called as nodules and cysts. These are very large and deep lumps of acne. Skin develops scars if acne progresses to second and third stages.

Acne Treatment Regimen For Cysts-

In severe form of acne, you develop nodules and cysts that are all inflamed. Treating this acne takes more time and patience. Your doctor will treat you with combination therapy to control and cure the acne while trying to take care that minimum scars form.
