The name Sudoku is an abbreviation of a Japanese phrase which means "the digits must remain single". It is also sometimes called Number Place or Nampure.

The history of Sudoku

You can find predecessors of Sudoku as early as 1895, when an early version or variant of Sudoku appeared in a French newspaper.

The game now known as Sudoku was not invented until 1979, however, and was actually invented in Indianapolis, not Japan. Sudoku became widely popular in 1986, when the Japanese puzzle publisher Nikoli found and published the puzzle.

The game of Sudoku

Sudoku is based on a graph of squares, nine squares by nine squares. This graph is sub-divided into 9 3x3 squares or regions. The board looks much like 9 tic tac toe games all together.

The game is played by placing digits (1-9) in the squares on the game. Easy enough. The tough part is that each region (3x3 square, each diagonal row, each horizontal row, and each vertical row of squares must contain one of each of the nine digits, but may not have duplicates.

Each Sudoku game has some of the fields pre populated with numerals, called givens or clues. The difficulty is not necessarily related to how many fields are populated, though.

Difficulty

Sudoku is a very simple game in it's construction, but it can require some serious brain effort and skill to solve. Publishers often rank games according to difficulty, using 4-5 levels to organize games by their difficulty.

Accessibility

Sudoku puzzles are published in many newspapers and magazines around the world. They are also available in print form, and as computer games. Probably the easiest way to get them, though, is from a website that features free Sudoku puzzles. Many websites can also generate custom puzzles for free. <bio>Visit http://www.sudoku-puzzles.net for free sudoku games and more. </bio>

Always wanted a patio, but didn't know how to build one? Well, you don't need to worry about that any longer.

You can build a patio for your home without even learning how to build a patio. Amazing huh? Let me tell you how.

At any garden or home improvement store, you will find those 'walkway' stones. They usually come in many different shapes, sizes and colors.

To build a patio using these, and without pouring any cement at all, you just figure out how large you would want your patio. If you want your patio to be 100 square feet, you would purchase one hundred of the 'walkway' squares.

They usually come in one foot squares. This is the easiest way to learn how to build a patio. Then you would dig your ground up and level it.

You can use a rake and a shovel for this. Rake the dirt out evenly and place your stepping stones down one beside the other.

Of course, to make one that is perfectly square, you would place ten rows of ten. You want to fit them as closely together as you can. Then stomp them down a bit into the dirt that you have raked up.

Ensure that all of your stepping stones are even. Then you will shovel your extra dirt on top of the squares. It doesn't matter if there's only a little left.

Spread it out evenly over the squares and sweep it off. This helps fill up any small cracks in the patio squares. Voila! This is one of the easiest ways to learn how to build a patio ever.

There are other ways to build a patio and make it look great you can check them out at http://www.buildapatio.net for easy instructions and advice. <bio>Jessica S shares more tips and advice on patios at http://www.buildapatio.net Want a garden?
Surprisingly enough, even in today's age of video games and "instant gratification" entertainment, board games are still wildly popular. And many would suggest that chess reigns supreme as one of the world's most popular board games, both in the U.S. and around the world.

Because of that, chess sets, chess pieces and related items still continue to be popular gifts. If you're in the market for a complete chess set, including both the pieces and a matching board, you'll find many suppliers online that provide you with chess set combinations that are already properly matched. But if you need a new chess board to go with an existing set of pieces, or you're looking for a set of pieces to play on an existing chess board, then it helps to know how to choose the right size product before you make your purchase.

Scenario #1: You Already Have Chess Pieces and Need a Chess Board to Match

As you shop around for chess boards online, you'll notice that most websites list the dimensions of the entire board as well as the size of the squares that the pieces sit on. The size of the board is somewhat important, but more from a standpoint of where you'll be placing the board (e.g., on a coffee table, in an office, etc). The more important factor for choosing the right board to match with your chess pieces is the size of the squares. First, you'll need to know the size of the base of the king. Then take that number and multiply it by 4/3 (or 1.33). That will tell you the MINIMUM sized squares you should look for when picking out your new chess board. Okay, at the risk of doing math in public, a quick example:

- Base of the King: 1.5"

- Minimum square size: 1.5" x 1.33 = 1.995"

In this example, a board with 2-inch squares or larger would be just fine. However, you don't want to go smaller since you run the risk of the pieces being too close together on the board, making them hard to move without bumping against each other. In addition, a board with squares that are way too large would just look out of proportion.

Scenario #2: You Already Have a Chess Board and Need Chess Pieces to Match

Of course, the other option is that you already have a chess board and simply need to find the right chess pieces to match. In this case, the procedure is just the opposite as above. You will need to know the size of the squares on your board. Then, simply take that number and multiply it by 3/4 (or 0.75). That will tell you the LARGEST measurement you would want in terms of the base of the king. Again, a quick example:

- Size of the squares on your board: 2.5"

- Maximum size of the base of the king: 2.5" x 0.75 = 1.875"

In this case, pieces with a base of 1.75" or even 1.5" would be appropriate, but obviously that great looking set of pieces with the 2-inch base might be pushing it a bit.

By following those simple tips, you'll see that finding the right size chess pieces or chess board is quick and easy. And wouldn't your math teacher be proud? <bio>Looking for a new chess board, chess pieces or chess set?
Suduko is one of the most popular puzzle number games in the United States today. It doesn't involve mathematics. But it does require the use of your brain. Suduko has nothing to do with knowledge, but it has everything to do with reasoning, logic and critical thinking. So, awaken your gray cells and get ready to play Suduko....

The Layout of Suduko

The regular Suduko puzzle board consists of a 9 x 9 grid. This grid is further divided into 3 x 3 sub-grids bordered with bold lines. They are called boxes or blocks or, at times, regions. A total of 81 squares make up the game board. Some of these squares have numbers in them already, while the remaining squares are blank. The numbers generally used are from 1 to 9.

Rules of the Game

Start the game by filling the squares with numbers. Use logic to decide the appropriate number for the square. You should fill up the squares in such a way that:

• Every row must exhibit ALL the digits from 1 to 9. • Every column must exhibit ALL the digits from 1 to 9. • Every 3 x 3 block or box must exhibit ALL the digits from 1 to 9.

Point to remember: All nine digits can appear only ONCE in each row, column, and block. Challenging.

Maddeningly so.

The ultimate objective of the puzzle is to have the numbers 1 to 9 properly allocated across each row, column, and block. And you have to complete the game fast. You don't have all day to work on the puzzle..

Simple Rules, Complex Game

The rules of Suduko are quite simple. That's its main attraction. Games with lengthy and complicated rules turn most people off. However, simple rules don't indicate a simple game--another powerful draw. Initially, you may feel it's easy, but as you proceed, you'll realize how complex Suduko is.

Your mind will become consumed with a world of digits. You'll lose track of time, captivated with this amazing puzzle of numbers. Once you start playing Suduko, you will fall in love with it! You will become a Suduko-addict.

And addiction is just the beginning. There are many other varieties of Suduko available. Some of them use symbols or letters instead of numbers, while others use more than nine digits. Such puzzles are highly complicated and can't be solved by just anyone. However, as you continue playing Suduko, your mind will become hungry for more complex puzzles.

Ganbatte! <bio>http://www.arts-crafts-magazine.com http://www.game-news-magazine.com </bio>

Undeniably, the public squares of Rome are included in its list of major attractions, not just in the entire city but that of the entire Italy. Most of the time, these squares are even referred to as the "core" of the city.

The squares of Rome, commonly referred to as "Piazza" are must-visit places. They serve as the perfect place where you can observe not just the present Roman life. Rather, these squares represent several centuries in the history of this notable spot in the globe. The squares are splendid places not just for mingling and meeting new friends but for exploring the real essence of the legendary city of Rome. Below are some of the many popular squares that you ought to visit:

Largo di Torre Argentina

This square hosts the four Roman Republican-era temples, along with the remains of the famous Pompey's theater. Such also serves as the home of the quite a huge population of cats that are hated by Mussolini but loved by the local groups that advocate animal rights.

Piazza di Trevi

If you want to find the fabled Fontana di Trevi, then you ought to pay a visit to this Piazza. However, make sure that you visit early because the site is not quite big. Unfortunately, the place can easily get very crowded especially in the afternoons.

Piazza di Spagna

This square is considered as one of the most splendid architectures from the eighteenth century. The spot is quite famous primarily because of the fact that many weddings are held there. Its "Spanish Steps" matched with the impressive Trinita dei Monti church has helped the square achieve worldwide recognition.

Piazza Navona

This square was formerly an ancient stadium that was constructed during the time of the Emperor Domitian. Fortunately, the grounds still retained its shape. Among the most notable cites in the area are the fountains which were created by Bernini.

Campo de' Fiori

This spot is very near Piazza Navona. This place often serves as a marketplace during the day. However, the spot evolves into a party central for college students and tourists alike during the night.

Piazza Pasquino

This Piazza is very near Piazza Navona. Among the most notable landmarks in the area is the statue named "Pasquino". According to the locals, "Pasquino" was one of the local tailors known for his undying complaints. As such, the statue now serves as a place where you can hang complaints, opinions, and other messages. One of the most remarkable enoteca in Rome, the Cul de Sac, is also located in this area.

Piazza del Popolo

The place is the home of the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo. With several designs crossing over several different squares it is easy to realize that it demands real talent to design your own quilt.

Patchwork quilts are possibly the most effortless designs to do because they consist of nothing except than a patchwork of distinct color materials, cut up into squares and sewn together in random order. Those patches that are made in a quilting design must be sewn back together in sequence for the material's patterns to match. Whether left to right or top to bottom, making a patterned match on each square with a square next to it requires planning and a lot of patience.

Your quilt size and the size of the squares, which will form the quilt will determine how complex the design of the quilt will be. While many decide on keeping their designs simple, others desire more intricate and complex designs. Using material that already has a premade design on it can make things a lot easier, but you still need to make each piece of similar size to make certain they fit together properly to form the designed size.

If you want to make your quilting designs reversible, you must realize that you will be spending an inordinate amount of time making it. Both sides must be finished, in regards to knots, and dependent upon your concept of reversible, may well require both sides made in mirror image before you sew all the layers together.

A sewing machine with a computerized guide can make quilting designs much easier to make. Many enable you to enter your design and let the machine do the work. The machine will then follow the pattern on the material you've put in the machine. For entire quilts where duplicated quilting designs are wanted this can make them easily and quickly.

Without an electronic sewing machine, there are patterns on the market with which to mark your cloth and then do the sewing by either traditional machine or by hand. Whichever way you choose, making more than enough squares for a moderately sized quilt is going to take some time and work on your part. <bio>Find more quilting and craft information at http://www.bestcraftspro.com/ </bio>

My grandmother and mother are both quilters. I love looking at the works of art that each have created over the years. My sister and I decided that we would like to learn how to quilt to keep this tradition alive in the family. Our mother makes very elaborate appliqué quilts. We knew that we did not want to start with something that complicated. We went to a fabric store together to find quilting patterns for beginners. The sales clerk suggested that we start with a patchwork quilt. This would be less difficult and also less expensive.

A patchwork quilt consists on different fabrics cut into pieces and sewed together to create the quilt top. A coordinating solid or print fabric is used for the back of the quilt and a batting is placed in between. The top and back are then quilted together through hand sewing with thread, or by tying knots through all the layers with pieces of yarn. That process is known as tying a quilt.

Each patchwork quilt is different because the quilter decides if each piece of fabric will be the same size and shape and also how to arrange the pieces. The clerk suggested using the same size squares of each fabric and to alternate the fabrics to create a sequence in the colors. As people get more involved in quilting they can create designs and patterns in the patchwork quilt by the placement of the colored fabrics. I decided that I would make the patchwork quilt for the bed in our guest room. I wanted jewel tones for this room. I chose three solid colors and three coordinating patterns. I found a striped fabric that featured all of the colors to use for the back of the patchwork quilt. My sister's daughter is pregnant so she decided to make a baby quilt. She bought pastel colored solids and prints that had animals on them.

I like the look of hand stitched quilts so I new that I wanted to quilt my patchwork quilt by hand. I did not want to attempt an elaborate pattern for my first project so I decided to cut my different fabrics in six inch squares. Once I cut out my squares I arranged the squares alternating solids and patterns. I sewed the squares together and then pinned the top, bottom and filling together. With chalk I placed as X in each square. I then hand stitched the outline of the square and the X. I used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric taunt while I sewed. I then used a solid color binding to complete the edging. My first patchwork quilt is not perfect, but I enjoyed doing the project and look forward to making another one. <bio>Dorothy Kimble is a staff writer at http://www.crafts-digest.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.recreation-digest.com. </bio>

To get a wonderful piece of woodworking, your savior-faire and skill regarding it, do not suffice. You are required having the right sorts of equipments and tools that will act as catalyst in giving shape to your dreams. For commencing you journey of selecting the correct tools, read this article which focuses on buying tips for saws, chisels and squares which are the primary tools of woodworking.

• To start with, chisel is the most traditional and important of all hand tools for every woodworker. Chisel is great in cutting the edges of innumerable sturdy materials like wood, metal or stone. When buying a chisel, you should emphasize on two things- the fit of the chisel's handle and the quality of steel. Many wood carvers and craftsmen go for the Japanese chisels particularly those that are of blue steel. You can opt for the boxwood handles resembling the shape of octagon. For getting a tighter grip. Above all, check that the steel is sharpened and honed accurately. You may take the aid of any professionals to get rid of any accidents.

• When you are deciding on buying squares, remember that extremely high precision and accuracy are the key words for squares as they act as guides in measurement in any kind of woodworking plan. The perfect is 0.003 inches or less. If you feel you are convenient with, you can purchase even the 3-4 inches long squares.

• In woodworking, an array of saws is used and the functions differ slightly with each tool. For any home repairing project, the trim saw with teeth on opposite sides of the blade is commonly used being the ideal one for repairing works.

I know all you want is to have a unique design. But for carrying out your dream project you are in need for the correct tools and equipments. And don't consider these tools as just machines, they mean more than that. Maintain them and take care of them properly. Check them, sharpen, and hone them on regular basis. Thus not only you will get value for money but also avoid accidents while doing you favorite past time- woodworking. <bio>Josiah Roell is involved with an online woodworking project that informs and educates the woodworking enthusiast through well-written articles.
Decorative pillows are the perfect way to add a personal touch to any room. However, despite their small size, these pillows can be quite expensive, especially when you buy three or four of them. Luckily, it is quite easy to learn how to make a pillow.

The first step to making a pillow is to select your fabric and trims. You will also need to select a filling for your pillow, decide what shape you want your pillow to be, and whether you want your pillow to have a removable cover.

As you select your fabric, keep in mind that many decorative pillows are made using at least two contrasting fabrics. Of course, for your first attempt at making a decorative pillow, you may only want to use one fabric. There are several important things you should keep in mind when you are choosing fabrics.

1. Knit fabrics and slippery materials are hard to work with.

2. Thin cotton fabrics do not usually make a spectacular pillow unless you are using a quilt block design.

3. Geometric prints are more difficult to work with than random designs, since you will need to match the prints up.

When you are selecting your pillow's filling, you will need to decide whether you will be making a removable cover. If so, a pillow form is the best choice, since you certainly wouldn't want to have to remove loose stuffing to wash the pillow and then replace it again after the pillow was clean. However, most decorative pillows are made without removable covers and can be stuffed with polyester fiber filling or chopped foam.

The easiest pillow to sew is probably a simple square pillow without any cording. To make your pillow, cut two squares of fabric that are one half inch bigger than your finished pillow measurement on each side. Place the two squares so that they are on top of each other and so that the brighter side of each square faces the other square's brighter side. (People who work with fabric call the brighter side of a piece of fabric the right side.)

Now you are ready for the fun part. Sew around three sides of the fabric squares, using a half inch seam allowance. (A seam allowance is the measurement from the edge of the fabric to where you want the sewing machine to stitch the fabric.) On the fourth side of the squares, sew a third of the way in from each side. This leaves you with an open space in the middle of that side. Use that space to turn your pillow right side out.

Finally, you are ready to finish your pillow. Stuff it firmly and then hand stitch the opening closed. Now, you can repeat the process to make a matching pillow. <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for GoosePillows.
A chess set consists of 32 pieces: 16 white and 16 black, representing two sides of a chess battle. To understand how to play chess and develop strategy, it's imperative to know how each piece moves. This very basic knowledge is necessary to truly grasp the power of each chess piece and in the course of a match, make the most of that individual piece's power.

The Pivotal 16

Each player begins the game with 16 chessmen: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 2 rooks, and 8 pawns. To properly position the pieces on a chess board, start with the rooks and move inward. The two rooks are placed on the lower corner squares. Next to them go the knights, followed by the bishops.

The queen is next. As a rule of thumb, this piece always matches its color. Thus, the black queen will be on the remaining black square. The white queen, the white square. Lastly, the king sits in the final square of the row. The pawns are placed on the second row in front of the king's "court."

The pieces of a chess set collectively show a player's power. What she does with this potential power is what ultimately determines who wins the game. The overall goal is to keep the king safe. To do so, a player must utilize each chess piece to its maximum strength. In short, chess pieces are capable of the following moves:

King: Moves only one square at a time, but in any direction. It's the most important piece on a chess board. If/when captured, the game is over. The king's special move is called castling; it is the only time two pieces can move at once (king and rook).

Queen: Moves in any direction for any number of squares. It is the most powerful piece on the board, capable of capturing and positioning from most any vantage point.

Bishop: Moves diagonally for any number of squares, yet is limited to one color. It is sensitive to pawn movement.

Knight: Moves two squares vertically or horizontally, then one square to the side. Its unique movement often factors into strategy.

Rook: Moves by rank or file for any number of squares. Starting in the corners, the rook -- along with the queen -- are major pieces on the chess board, capable of altering space and an opponent's plan of attack.

Pawn: Moves only one square at a time and only forward. However, on the opening move, it can choose between two squares or one. A seemingly weak piece, a pawn can also be promoted if it safely reaches the end of the board. If it succeeds, a pawn can be exchanged for any other chess piece, except the king. Most often, a pawn gets promoted to queen.

What's My Move?

It may seem too much to learn all this at once, but in order to truly grasp the potential of your chess pieces, it's important you first understand what each individual piece is capable of. For instance, feeling despaired that you're left with only pawns? Don't forget about pawn promotion. Feeling like your king is being threatened? Consider castling him. By understanding your pieces' potential, a chess board can truly open up with possibilities. You just need to recognize them first.<bio>Elizabeth Traineroni is a chess expert, researcher and writer who takes time out to write articles in her spare time, where she'll help you pick out the perfect chess set.
The crossword and word search are two of the most popular logic puzzles found throughout newspapers and bookstores around the world. However, in recent years, number-based games such as Sudoku, Futoshiki, and Kakuro have become increasingly popular.

Sudoku is the most mainstream of the three, at least in the United States. The game is a grid-based number game, consisting of nine 3x3 squares positioned into a larger 3x3 square made up the subgrids. The objective is to fill each column, row, and subgrid with the numbers one through nine; each number can only appear once in each row, column, or subgrid square. Certain numbers are placed in squares to give a clue to the person playing the puzzle. Difficult is dependent on the number of freebie numbers given, as well as their location.

The puzzle is relatively new compared to other classic puzzles, and didn't take off in popularity until 2005. Even though it's popularity has only recently peaked, the game was invented over 20 years ago. It was originally invented by an American; Howard Garns is attributed with developing the puzzle game, which he named "Number Place." The misconception that the Japanese invented the game comes because the game was popular in Japan under the name Sudoku, or "single number," long before it made waves in America.

In 2004, Sudoku began its rise when it was first published in a British newspaper in November 2004. The game quickly developed into a national phenomenom. The puzzle finally made its back to the United States again. By this time, it was more than just a trivial puzzle game. Sudokus puzzles are now seen in magazines, books, video games, and TV game shows.

Due to the puzzle's amazing success, there are a variety of variants that have popped up. Sudoku puzzles can be created in several different sizes, provided it's a square number. Grids such as a 4x4, 16x16, and even a 25x25, can be found for a alternative challenge to the traditional puzzle. There are also several other restrictions which can complicate the game, such as requiring that numbers only be used once in each diagonal as well, or substituting the numbers with symbols, words, or pictures.

Futoshiki is very similar to sudoku, except placed on a 5x5 board with no subgrids. The objective is to place the numbers one through five in each column and row. However, there is one twist; there are inequalities placed between grid spots that restrict which numbers can be placed where. If there's a sign placed in between the squares, a number must be "less than" or "greater than" the number placed in the adjacent square.

Second only to sudoku, kakuro is another one of the most popular number-based logic puzzles. The black-and-white colors looks very similar to a crossword puzzle. Unless sudoku where no arithmetic is involved, kakuro requires math to solve. The objective for the player is to reach a certain sum (the clue) using the numbers one through nine no more than once each. All open squares must be used, which complicates the player's ability to reach the sum. If the clue sum was seven, there are several options. They could use a one, two, and four, or just combine the one and two into a three that requires only one square.

These relatively new number-based puzzle games have been extremely successful. As they continue to grow in popularity and complexity, expect them to one day surpass the word-based games such as word searches and crossword puzzles.<bio>If you like to play challenging puzzles and games visit Sudoku Puzzles.
When you're ready to buy a chess set, make sure you get one you will be happy with. A chess set is a special kind of purchase. You should never go cheap. Having a chess set that you can be proud of and that you feel good about will add to your enjoyment as you play. It really makes you feel connected with all the grand traditions of the game of chess.

Here are a few things to consider when buying a chess set.

**Looks are important

Chess sets are available in a wide range of styles and quality levels. You can buy anything from a very cheap plastic set to a stunningly beautiful set carved from pewter, rosewood, onyx, camel bone, and many other materials. Whether you are looking for a future family heirloom, a personal set for yourself, a set to start the kids playing or a gift for that chess enthusiast in your life, look for something you are impressed with, something you will be honored to use or give as a gift.

When looking for the quality of the carving, look closely at the Knight. The Knight is the piece that allows craftsmen to best show their skill. After you compare Knights from a few different sets you'll realize that the better sets have Knights that show detailed eyes, nostrils, teeth and manes.

**Weighting is important too

A well made chess piece is properly balanced so it acts and feels right when you move it, or as it is sitting on the board. Chess pieces should move with elegance, and they should not be easily knocked over. Accidental spills happen. But proper weighting can avoid ruining a game over a simple nudge of the board. Double and even triple weighted pieces are available.

**Get the right size board

Choosing the right size board takes a bit more thought than you might realize. First, it must fit the space where you most often intend to use it. Second, it has to work with the size of your chess set. Third the colors and materials of the board should complement your chess set. And fourth, it should be large enough to allow some room for putting down your captured pieces.

Start by measuring the diameter of the base of your King. Make sure the squares on your board are a bit larger than this diameter. Say, for instance, the base of your King is 1 7/8". Then make sure your board squares are at least 2" square.

Since the board has 8 squares across, that means your board will have to be 8 x 2"= 16". Then add about 2" all around to give you some space for placing captured pieces. That means to accommodate your pieces you would need a board that is at least 20" square.

Put a bit of thought into your chess set purchase and it will give you many years of enjoyment.
A fish tank is a good thing to have at home. If we make the fish tank ourselves it will be something we and our family would doubly love. And it's easy to build one. Yeah, that's right. Why go out and buy one when you can have the fun of this simple home project and do it yourself? Also the advantage of doing it yourself is that the space you want your tank in can be perfectly fit into the space when you yourself are doing the work.

We can enjoy an artificial scene of the deep sea that we ourselves have designed and made right in our homes. How? Here is how we make a fish tank. Try with a small tank first or ask the glass store attendant dimensions for a 25-gallon fish tank.

1. We begin by putting together the glass walls of the fish tank. Put two glass wall pieces together at their edges--one is flat on its back (the bottom piece), the other standing beside it at a 90 degree angle (front piece). Glue together their adjoining edges. Tape the glass pieces to the peripheries of two perfect squares standing on the bottom piece.

2. It would help to put a duct tape on the outer side of the edge where the two glass pieces meet. This would steady the edges together. The two perfect squares would help steady both glass pieces to form a 90 degree angle. Then place silicone sealant at the joint edges and have them dry up for 24 hours. With several more squares we may do the same procedure with the other glass wall piece (back piece) of the fish tank.

Now we have the bottom, front, and back walls of our fish tank glued together.

3. Next, we glue the side walls of our fish tank. We simply place enough silicone sealant at the edges where we would attach our side walls. Let the attachment dry up for another 24 hours.

4. Then, turn the fish tank upside down to put sealant at the outside edges after removing the duct tapes. Make sure all edges (bottom and sides) are sealed well and then place the plastic or rubber trims. Then allow for 6 hours for the sealant to dry.

5. Make the fish tank stand upright once more and put sealant on the rims and place plastic or rubber trims to cover sharp glass edges. Allow the sealed trims and edges to dry for another 24 hours.

6. The next day, fill the fish tank with water and observe for 12 hours. Seal-repair any leaks by first emptying and drying the fish tank and applying the sealant. Let it dry and fill with water again. On the final refilling, place our accessories and allow water temperature to equal room temperature. Then check for toxicity and pH balance with test strips.

Have the glass walls cut at the glass store and always wear gloves when handling cut glass. With the right instructions, materials, and tools making our own fish tank is quite easy.<bio>John Grant is a the author for a how to site where he is writing articles about how to build a fish tank.</bio>

Bingo is a popular game that has been around for several years and it is played all around the world. Bingo has gained popularity because of its simplicity and because of the excitement that it offers. In bingo, a player is provided with a ticket that has some numbers printed on it and the player is supposed to strike the numbers as they are called by a computer or by some person. If a number called by the computer is written on the ticket then it is shaded otherwise it is not shaded. Over the past few years, a lot of variations have been introduced so as to make the game more exciting and interesting.

The 75-ball bingo and the 90-ball bingo are the two most popular variations of the bingo game. The 90-ball bingo is a popular game in UK and the parts of Europe whereas the 75-ball bingo is a popular game in US. Both the variations of the game are similar to some extent as you need to purchase the bingo cards in both of them and you also need to strike out the numbers on the cards. However, both the games are played differently.

In the 75-ball bingo, five columns of 15 numbers each are used to print the 75 numbers and each of these five columns represent a particular letter of bingo. The letters are written at the top of the ticket. Apart from the letters, the ticket has numbers printed on it which varies from 1 to 75. A random selection is made for choosing the numbers to be printed on the cards and this is done in order to conduct a fair game. In 75-ball bingo, the objective of the players is to strike out the numbers and to form a particular pattern that has been selected for that game. The person who first forms the pattern wins the game and the prize.

In the 90-ball bingo, each player is supposed to purchase the ticket in order to play the game. Each ticket has nine columns and three rows. In each row, five squares out of the nine squares have a number that lies between the numbers 1 to 90 and the remaining squares are left blank. A player can play either with a strip of six tickets or he can play with a single ticket. The strip of six tickets is such that it covers all the numbers from 1 to 90. At each bingo call, a number is called and a player needs to mark it if it is written on his ticket. Each ticket has three rows and the 90-ball bingo has three winning patterns.

Single Line: The first person to successfully mark all the numbers of any of the three horizontal lines wins a prize.

Two Lines: The first person to successfully mark all the numbers of any two horizontal lines out of the three horizontal lines wins a prize.

Full House: The first person to successfully mark all the numbers on the ticket wins a prize.

So, the 90-ball game is a bit different from the 75-ball game as there are three winning patterns and three winners in a single game. A single player can even win thrice in a single 90-ball bingo game and this makes it more fun-packed and interesting. Also, the 90-ball bingo game is not letter specified and the tickets of 90-ball bingo have more columns than the tickets of the 75-ball bingo.<bio>We have all the latest offers for various betting games such as the no deposit casino bonus and free online bingo bonus offers.</bio>

While traditional chess remains most popular around the world, there are variants of the game which are interesting to compare. Similar to orthodox chess, as it's sometimes called, these chess variants all use a chess board and a chess set, are thematically based on a military battle, and primarily work to protect the king (and to win, capture the opponent's).

Orthodox Chess

With traditional chess, two players square off opposite a checkered chess board comprised of 64 squares: 8 columns by 8 rows, with the squares alternating between white and black. Onto this board, a chess set is broken out with each player given 16 chess pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 2 rooks, and 8 pawns. With these pieces, the players are charged with devising a strategy to capture the opposing king.

Players alternate turns and captured pieces are replaced by the attacking piece. The queen is the most powerful chess piece, while the king gains strength as the game progresses on and the chess board thins out. The game ends once a player is able to establish checkmate.

Xiangqi

Also known as Chinese Chess, Xiangqi is quite popular in Asia. As with traditional chess, Xiangqi is said to have evolved from the Indian game Chanturanga. The chess board for Xiangqi is imagined to be a battlefield divided by a river. On each side of this river, there's a palace and like chess, the objective of each player is to capture (or check) the opposing king.

Comprised of 10 horizontal lines and nine vertical lines, a void dissects the chess board. On one side is the black army and on the other, the red. In total, there are 64 squares. However, play takes place on points instead of the squares. At the start of the game, each player is given a chess set (or Xiangqi set) of 16 pieces: 1 king, 2 Mandarins, 2 elephants, 2 knights, 2 rooks, 2 cannons, and 5 pawns.

Shogi

In Japan, the game of Shogi rules and though there are departures in the game from orthodox chess, there are also similarities. Known as the "general's game," Shogi is another military-themed board game that again aims to checkmate the opposing player's king.

The chess sets or playing pieces for Shogi include: 1 king, 1 rook, 1 bishop, 2 gold generals, 2 silver generals, 2 knights, 2 lances, and 9 pawns. As with chess, each piece is limited by specific movement on the board. A unique element to Shogi is the "promotion zone," where pieces can be promoted (similar to the last rank on a traditional chess board for a pawn). In Shogi, promoted pieces are flipped to indicate the change in rank/power. Pieces can also return to the board after capture.

Other Chess Variants

In addition to the above games (highlighted because of their history), there are dozens more to learn of. As said, each variant possesses enough similarities with traditional chess to make for interesting discussion. To master one of these variants is also to perhaps better understand classic chess.

From Alice Chess, which is played on two chess boards, to Displacement Chess, where certain chess pieces are transposed, several chess variants seem to want to challenge the old guard. Yet by doing so, they aim to further understand it. By testing the game's limits, they just might unearth some of the game's remaining mysteries.

Time to break out the chess sets and deploy.<bio>Roger is the resident chess expert for PMP Chess, where he'll help you pick out the perfect chess set.
Repeating the same game again and again can make the kids to feel bore and tired. Variety of activities is needed to have a successful birthday party. Let us now find out what are these activities of the party.

It is well first to show the children the game. Then repeat it and let them do it with you. It is played this way. Start with each hand doubled into a fist. When the first squirrel speaks, the little fingers raise; when the second squirrel speaks, the fourth fingers rise; the third squirrel, the third fingers and so on until the thumbs rise when the fifth squirrel speaks. At the word "Bang" claps your hands and on the last line quickly put them behind your back. If you're not already familiar with the words, memorize the verse and actions so that the children can follow you without hesitation. The youngsters will love this game and want to repeat it again and again.

Just before time to eat bring on paper crowns made of gay-colored construction paper, one for each child. The birthday child's can differ from the others in that it can be cut across the front to represent three candles. While the children are trying on and admiring their crowns, cover the low table with a paper tablecloth and matching napkins. For the table centerpiece use gay balloons on sticks thrust in a vase.

The youngsters will adore the bright table with only their own friends eating with them. Children greatly prefer foods that are familiar to them so it is foolish to spend hours preparing an elaborate meal. Meat loaf baked potato and creamed carrots or peas are foods that will satisfy most children. And, of course, the inevitable ice cream and cake will finish the meal.

After supper each guest is given one of the balloons to take home with him along with his crown and his colored animal. When you see all the happy little guests so proud of their possessions and hear your own child prattle about his party, you'll know that the party has been a success and well worth every bit of effort you have put into it.

Birthday must be celebrated

The secret of entertaining small children successfully is to have a variety of activities, none of which lasts too long. Children adore making things; kindergartners as well as older children. At a recent five-year-old's birthday party the children made small paper baskets, which pleased them much more than any ready-made baskets. Here is how they are made.

Bright-colored construction paper is the most attractive to use. For the basket proper the paper is cut in squares six by six inches. Then crease the paper into sixteen small squares by folding it in half four times. On two opposite sides slit the corner squares to the first crease. These corner squares are folded over and pasted on to the two end center squares, forming the ends of the basket. The handles are also cut out of the same colored paper. They can be five or six inches long and about one-half inch in width. A cut-out paper animal or fowl can be used for decoration.

The baskets are pasted first, then the handles pasted on and the little decorations pasted on last. Little scissors are provided and the guests fringe the edges of the baskets. Spread out upon a table the cut and folded paper for the baskets, handles, and decorations.

Let each child make his own choice of color for his basket, handle, and ornament, and then paste them together. This may sound difficult but it is not. The children love to make the baskets and you'll have a big surprise at the good-looking baskets.

When the baskets are finished place them on the mantel where they can be admired and later filled with candy to be taken home. Older children may be permitted to make the initial cuts and folds for the baskets.

Children like to do coloring, decorating as well as creating things by themselves. Making paper baskets not only gives fun and enjoyment, also develop their creative ability. <bio>Mitch Johnson is a regular writer for http://www.kids-games-n-crafts.com/.
Anyone who has a large family or who want to raise the value of the home may think about adding a bedroom in the basement. It is a great space for enlarging the home and is not as costly as adding an extra room on. There are some excellent bedroom plans that are simple and creative. All it will take is a small amount of your time to plan.

Hanging Drywall

Once you have found the bedroom idea you want to use, it will be necessary to hang some extra walls. A few have decided to just add paneling to make the wall. This makes for a cheap, and unattractively thin wall. The better idea is to add drywall instead. Once they are hung, you can paint or wallpaper they with anything you like. Drywall will provide a stronger wall that is able to take the punishment of picture frames and shelves thus offering an individual design to the room.

Bring In The Carpet

An unfinished basement is more likely concrete. It is cold to the feet especially in the morning. Adding carpet after all the other improvements have been completed will give you a warm soft alternative and will bring the personal touch into the room. For more info see http://www.basementremodelinghelp.com/Basement_Finishing/ on the basement finishing.

Carpet squares might be the right way to finish a basement floor. They are simple to put in and they are already installed with padding and moisture blockage. To add the squares, take precise measurements. Decide on the layout of the tiles before you actually install them. This will give you a neater appearance to the floor. If you find it necessary to cut one of the tiles, a utility knife will be the only thing you need to slice throught the carpet layers. Each square needs to be tightly placed against the other one to stop anything from being trapped between them. Once you are complete, run a vccuum over the new carpet to eliminate the lines between the carpet. Your basement is now complete, Enjoy! <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.basementremodelinghelp.com/ on ensure basement waterproofing and http://www.basementremodelinghelp.com/Basement_Dehumidifier/ on basement finishing. http://Basementremodelinghelp.com is a comprehensive resource to get help in home basement improvement. </bio>

Sudoku Puzzles are brain teasers that have also been called wordless crossword puzzles. Sudoku Puzzles are often solved through lateral thinking and have been making a large impact all across the world.

Also known as Number Place, Sudoku puzzles are actually logic-based placement puzzles. The object of the game is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each cell that is found on a 9 x 9 grid which is sundivided into 3 x 3 subgrids or regions. Several digits are often given in some cells. These are referred as givens. Ideally, at the end of the game, every row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral from 1 through 9. Patience and logic are two qualities needed in order to complete the game.

Number puzzles very much similar to the Sudoku Puzzles have already been in existence and have found publication in many newspapers for over a century now. For instance, Le Siecle, a daily newspaper based in France, featured, as early as 1892, a 9x9 grid with 3x3 sub-squares, but used only double-digit numbers instead of the current 1-9. Another French newspaper, La France, created a puzzle in 1895 that utilized the numbers 1-9 but had no 3x3 sub-squares, but the solution does carry 1-9 in each of the 3 x 3 areas where the sub-squares would be. These puzzles were regular features in several other newspapers, including L'Echo de Paris for about a decade, but it unfortunately disappeared with the advent of the first world war.

Howard Garns, a 74-year-old retired architect and freelance puzzle constructor, was considered the designer of the modern Sudoku Puzzles. His design was first published in 1979 in New York by Dell, through its magazine Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games under the heading Number Place. Garns' creation was most likely inspired by the Latin square invention of Leonhard Euler, with a few modifications, basically, with the addition of a regional restriction and the presentation of the game as a puzzle, providing a partially-complete grid and requiring the solver to fill in the empty cells.

Sudoku Puzzles were then taken to Japan by the puzzle publishing company Nikoli. It introduced the game in its paper Monthly Nikoli sometime in April 1984. Nikoli president Maki Kaji gave it the name Sudoku, a name that the company holds trademark rights over; other Japanese publications which featured the puzzle have to settle for alternative names.

In 1989, Sudoku Puzzles entered the video games arena when it was published as DigitHunt on the Commodore 64. It was introduced by Loadstar/Softdisk Publishing. Since then, other computerized versions of the Sudoku Puzzles have been developed. For instance, Yoshimitsu Kanai made several computerized puzzle generator of the game under the name Single Number for the Apple Macintosh in 1995 both in English and in Japanese language; for the Palm (PDA) in 1996; and for Mac OS X in 2005. <bio>For more valuable information on sudoku puzzles, please visit http://www.sudoku-puzzles.com </bio>

A fellow strikes a few keys on a computer keyboard or strides into a licensed sportsbook in Nevada and wagers $5,000 on a football game. The move triggers an immediate and frenzied reaction from the house's numbers cruncher, who quickly consults with his bosses or telephones the casino's sister properties and adjusts the betting lines on the team that just was bet.

A few minutes later another man (or woman) strikes the very same computer keys or walks up to the very same window at the very same sportsbook and wagers a whopping $50,000 on a football game. The very same house bookmaker makes note of the wager but otherwise does not stir from reading the morning newspaper. There are no betting lines adjustments this time.

What the heck is going on here?

Bookmakers have learned that the amount of money bet often is secondary in importance to the identity of the person who places the wager. For example, a hotel guest who lumbers into the sportsbook from the gaming tables with a cocktail in one hand, a load of black chips in the other and what he believes is an informed opinion, usually is not viewed as a serious threat to the house's bottom line. Online, a player not known for his wagering acumen may also make a large bet without raising a bushy eyebrow. For the most part, sportsbooks are far more threatened by the activities of savvy players and gambling syndicates.

Because bet takers always are looking to get ahead of the action, to find that one right number that attracts equal or near equal activity to each side of a game, distinguishing and separating recreational or unsophisticated bettors, called 'squares,' from professional bettors, known as 'sharps,' can be crucial to a sportsbook's well-being. One way sportsbooks do this is by reacting as quickly as possible to the moves made by professional bettors.

But first, bookmakers have to identify the 'sharps,' who, in an attempt to get their wagers down at the most attractive betting lines, often use a variety of tricks and subterfuge. Known by sight to most bookmakers, many sophisticated bettors employ 'runners' or 'beards' to place their wagers, frequently striking with military-like precision at several sportsbooks at the same time.

Of course, bookmakers, who are trained to look for tip-offs such as clipboards or cell phones, eventually become familiar with the runners and the cat-and-mouse game begins anew.

Online, shrewd professionals will open a series of accounts at a number of reputable sportsbooks, spreading out their action on betting lines to try to camouflage their true intent.

In addition to the overall quality of their play, 'sharps' differentiate themselves from 'squares' in several other ways. Most obviously, 'sharps' are professionals who derive their income from their play while 'squares' have "real" jobs.

Generally, say sportsbook managers, 'sharps' are low-key, gracious and unassuming while players who boast about their successes usually are 'squares' with little chance of winning.

'Sharps' also distinguish themselves by the number of games they bet and the consistency of their wagers on each of those games. Typically, 'sharps' bet about half a dozen games during a football weekend. 'Squares' bet one or two, or even worse, nearly the whole card.

"If you believe you have an edge you don't want to bet just one or two games," explained a professional sports bettor who asked that his name be withheld. "If you play only a couple of games, luck becomes much too overwhelming of a factor. You don't want to be in a situation where a bad bounce or a lousy call from a referee beats you and that's the only game you've played. If you've played a handful of games, maybe five or six, and you're any good, you can overcome a bad beat."

There's also little variation in the size of bets made by 'sharps.'

"You pretty much bet the same amount on each game," said the player. "I don't have a 'best bet,' a 'game of the week' or anything like that. C'mon, if I really knew which of my bets were 'best' wouldn't I just make those bets? I think all my bets are going to win; that's why I make them."

Finally, the 'sharp' player never measures success in the short run so he never has to "get out" on an unlikely parlay or chase after the final game of the day or the weekend. Poker players are fond of saying that one session doesn't mean anything. 'Sharps' understand that.

So if you see betting lines move, it's probably because of the "who" not the "how much." <bio>By Luken Karel for http://www.thegreek.com/ The Greek Sportsbook and Casino is host to one of the top online sportsbooks offering betting lines: http://www.thegreek.com/ on NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and all other major sports.
