Quality digital pianos now how a sound and feel very close to an acoustic piano. In fact, some digital pianos can rival the best grand pianos in sound quality.

One of the best benefits of digital pianos is their digital output of sound, so it's very easy to record music using just your digital piano and your computer.

Most keyboards and electric pianos have a one quarter inch stereo output. Most computers have a one eighth inch stereo input, so you'll need an adapter. You can get the necessary adapter at Radio Shack or a similar store.

Once you have your electric piano plugged into the microphone port on your computer, you'll need software to record with. Audacity is about as good as you can get. It's free, and supports multiple tracks, plus has many useful effects.

Once you install Audacity, you'll need to adjust your keyboard volume. You can adjust the volume via the Audacity interface or on your keyboard.

To record, just click the record button and start playing...then click stop when you are done. To record multiple tracks, just click record again and play along with the track you already recorded.

If you add acoustic tracks, such as guitar, vocals, drums, etc to your recording, you should use the Noise removal effect on Audacity. This tool is very helpful in removing static and noise from your recordings. It usually won't be necessary for your electric piano, though, since all the recording is digital.

Using your electric piano and Audacity, you can easily create recordings with a "full" band. If you need more voices for your keyboard, you can get midi boxes or software to add 100's of extra voices -- everything from drums to flutes. <bio>Find electric piano parts @ Vintage Vibe: http://www.vintagevibe.com </bio>

I'm often asked the question "Are self hypnosis recordings really as effective as hypnotherapy with a real live person?" My answer is yes, absolutely.

Certainly, there are significant differences to be found when comparing self hypnosis CDs or downloads to one on one therapy, but they are just that, differences. What one individual considers a benefit may be seen as a drawback to the next person. It really comes down to each person's natural makeup, which determines what works for them.

For instance, in the case of live one to one hypnotherapy, a session can be concentrated on a particular problem, which may be a priority to you at a given moment, especially if you're easily hypnotized. With recorded self hypnosis sessions, you do not have the benefit of focalized subject matter. There is no doubt that for specific problems, particular deep rooted problems, live one to one hypnotherapy is the best option.

On the other hand, to someone else, successful hypnotherapy may be dependant on the need to hear the message repeatedly. The law of concentrated attention and the power of suggestion in hypnosis are proven and very real. In this case, a recorded self hypnosis session is really the best option. You have complete control over when and how often to hear the recording. With live hypnotherapy, you do not have the benefit of repeated play, or the convenience of selective timing.

There is nothing preventing you from trying combined therapy, wherein you see a hypnotherapist in person, and also benefit from self hypnosis recordings in your own time. There is no system to conform to; it's really whatever works for each individual person. Each of us has to answer this for ourselves.

After several face to face hypnotherapy sessions, you may want to try a CD or a download, and see how it works for you. On the other hand, you may start with self hypnosis recordings, and after experiencing some degree of success, you may wish to have one or more face to face sessions.

From a cost standpoint, it's certainly worth trying self hypnosis recordings first. It's far more economical than face to face, and if successful, you can save a lot of time and money by directing your own therapy. I always give my clients one of my own self hypnosis CDs to use in between therapy sessions, so that they get the best of both worlds.

There is also the added advantage that by repeated listening of a recording you'll have experienced the hypnotic state many times, which means you'll no what to expect from hypnosis in general. Some people find it hard to enter a state of creative relaxation on the first few attempts. Since you'll have experienced this many times from listening to a self hypnosis recording, it could save you both time and money should you wish to visit a hypnotherapist for live one to one sessions.

I've heard of a few hypnotherapists who question the effectiveness of self hypnosis recordings and I often get asked the question "do recorded hypnosis sessions actually work?" I say yes they do, without question. It's like anything else; it may not work for everyone, but for those who are willing to listen regularly, it can be extremely successful. Hypnosis is about suggestion, the more you hear something, the more it penetrates. This is precisely why recorded self hypnosis sessions are so effective. Don't let anyone tell you differently. <bio>Barrie St John is a leading figure in the field of hypnotherapy and is the author behind the best selling self hypnosis CDs which can be found by visiting http://www.HypnoShop.com </bio>

With the popularity of the Internet, many people are violating music copyright law and do not even know it. Music copyright law can be very tricky. There are multiple music copyrights that you must keep in mind =96 lyrics, composition and the recording of the music by an artist. Using someone's music may involve you acquiring many different licenses such as mechanical, synchronization, performance and publishing licenses.

Music copyright law has separate copyrights for the vocal or instrumental recordings of a composition or performance and the copyright of the written lyrics and music. Standard music copyrighting practices usually entail that the writer of the song retains the rights to the right to the music composition which the studio that did the recording of the music holds the rights of the recording. Music copyright law can get very complicated. It can involve negotiations with the writers, producers, agents, heirs and more.

Many artists and studios are upset with the decline in music sales. They are attributing this decline to people who are violating copyright laws by downloading music on the Internet. Music files are under the same copyright law as music recordings and the owners of these copyrights are entitled to royalties or compensation for the music that people are illegally downloading on the Internet.

The simple fact is you are stealing if you make copies of copyrighted music recordings without authorization. If people were sued for the music they have downloaded illegally, it could result in thousands of dollars. Music copyright law states that it is illegal to duplicate and distribute creative work. If you send someone an email with a song that you have illegally downloaded on the Internet, you could be in for some serious trouble. To put it bluntly and plainly, if you download (or upload) music that is copyrighted without permission, you are breaking the law.

Many people violate music copyright law and do not even understand how their actions are criminal. If you purchase a music CD you can make a copy of it for yourself on your MP3. However, if you then use that recording and put it on your website or blog and make it available for everyone to download, you are performing an illegal act. Even if you join a site and pay a fee to download music, you are in violation of music copyright law.

This may sound like something that would never come back to haunt you. After all, if you were caught, it would be a first time offense, right? Well, you should know that there have been first time offenders who have been fined up to $250,000 and up to five years in jail for violating music copyright law. It is so much easier to go out and pay 20 bucks for a CD.

Whether you are uploading music or downloading music, educate yourself on music copyright law. No one wants to ruin their financial future and face jail time. Enjoy music, just do it the right way! <bio>Brian Scott is a freelance journalist who covers copyright law for http://www.ResearchCopyright.com. </bio>

At one time, you could use only iTunes for your iPhone ringtones. This was okay but not very creative. Now, you can use a software program, such as Garage, to create and customize your own iPhone ringtones. When you are able to use your own audio files to create iPhone ringtones, this gives you a chance to have more fun while you customize your ringtones.

When you first think of iPhone ringtones, songs may be the first thing that come to mind. You should realize that with a little tinkering, you can produce iPhone ringtones from many types of audio files besides music. You can use your own recordings made of voices, real life sounds, recordings from movies and television shows. When you consider the entire array of sounds and music that can be used, you will be able to customize your ringtones to each of your callers perfectly.

If you already make your own audio files, you may already have a few audio files in mind. You just have to match the audio with the caller. You can use MP3s with Garage or other audio ringtone software to create iPhone ringtones. This ability means that you could record your child or someone else telling you to answer the phone and use that audio file as your ringtone for that person.

You will have a few main categories of callers for whom you can develop themes. You have family, friends and work related caller, for starters. If you want to go further than that; you could develop iPhone ringtones to identify each individual caller. But, if you are going to create a ringtone for each of these main groups instead, you would choose a song or sound that you thinks represents that group's personality best.

When it comes to family callers, there are many sit-coms that feature family members including "The Simpsons" or "Arrested Development from which you could record voices or music. You may want to choose a theme from an afternoon soap opera if you think that represents your family better.

For children, consider using the theme song from the child's favorite television program. You could use the sound such as a squeaky rubber duck or the sound of a ball bouncing. If your child admires nature, he or she may like it if you have a bird call or duck quack as their ringtone.

When it comes to friends, it can be easy to pick your friends' favorite songs. You can get their help when it comes to picking your friend's favorite song. This will help you to remember whose ringtone is calling you. Perhaps, your friend has a movie or television character that they really like and whom you think would be a good match for your friend.

When your boss or work colleagues call you, you should use music or sound that is more serious, especially if your boss might hear it someday. If fact, your boss might like it if you picked an adventure themed audio for his or her calls as it makes it look as if you think that they lead an exciting life. You are the best judge of what would work best for this category.<bio>If you are looking for high quality iphone ringtones then look no further.
It's really amazing that you can get the exact value listening to an audio book while doing your normal chores as you would reading it.

Certain experts even say information sinks in more when we are not paying direct attention to them.

But when did this audio book phenomenon really start? In other words, what's the history of audio books?

From all indications, audio books look like a very recent invention, right?

WRONG!

It is very easy to make the assumption that audio books are a recent invention because of the mention of CDs, downloadable digital formats, MP3s, PDAs and other technological jargons each time audio books are discussed. But audio books started a long time ago.

To know how long audio books have been, it is pertinent to understand exactly what audio books are.

Forget about any other jargon you have heard, audio books are simply books that are recorded to be heard, instead of read.

That being the case, such recordings of books in audio formats have been around for a very long time. If you want to be specific, it is safe to say they were first introduced over half a century ago.

It could even be longer, if you include the Library of Congress recordings made especially for the American Foundation for the Blind and distributed free throughout the U.S.

However, according to Robin Whitten, the editor and founder of the only magazine which is dedicated solely to the audio book industry:

Audiofile--http://www.AudioFileMagazine.com, Caedmon (now a subsidiary of Harper Collins Publishers) can be credited to have started the recordings of literature as far back as 50 years ago.

Going further, he said Caedmon was just a small company way back then in New York, which started recording the audio of great authors and poets of the 1950s. Specifically, he said one of the earliest recordings were by greats such as Dylan Thomas, T.S. Eliot, Fitzgerald and Robert Frost.

What happened then was that they were simply recorded while doing their own works and made as vinyl records.

But these early recordings can arguably pass off for the first collection of audio books ever.

However, the transition of these book recordings into audiocassette tapes didn't happen until the late 1970s up to the 1980s. From thence, it blossomed until audio books in audiocassette tapes came to be accepted by all and sundry.

For whatever reason however, the audio book phenomenon didn't really kick off until the 1990s.

And with the transition from audiocassette technology into CDs, more people have become interested in audio books.

With the advent of the Internet and its paraphernalia, audio books have now transited from vinyl records, audiocassette taps and CDs into downloadable digital formats that can be listened to with a desktop computer, laptop computer, PDAs, etc.

If you are still interested in "going back in time" you can get the original book recordings that started this audio book industry.

Impossible?

Not really.

Some of those early 1950s analog recordings by Caedmon which were performed by the greats of those days can be purchased today on the Internet.

For example, recently I was able to browse the Internet thoroughly and found the original recording of "The Lord of the Rings" as read by J.R.R. Tolken.

You can find that classic you have always dreamt of in audio book format if you search hard enough on the Internet. <bio>Janet Rusky is an upcoming author who runs one of the best audio book stores on the internet where 7000 titles divided in hundreds of categories are available for immediate download. http://www.best-audiobook-store.com </bio>

Your speaking voice is one of the biggest assets you have when developing an online business. It's true. There are a number of different applications where you can use your voice to enhance your online presence and your business model. In particular, you can use your voice to record podcasts, add audio messages to your website and create audio information products.

Modern technology has made the recording of your voice very easy indeed. You can download a free version of the Audacity software and purchase a microphone and quickly record digital audio files with whatever spoken message you like. This article will discuss a few techniques you should use to make those spoken messages smoother and buttery, just like those radio announcers.

The first thing you need to do is purchase a pop filter. Pop filters eliminate the plosives in your speech like P's, B's and D's. All three of these tend to pop into the microphone, thereby popping into the ears of listeners as well. Pops can be extremely distracting when listening to an audio recording and can even discourage your audience from listening to any more of it. A simple $10 pop filter looks like a big foam rubber cover for your microphone and it can eliminate the distracting plosives quickly and easily.

Next, it's time to start recording. And after your recording is complete, there are three electronic effects you can use to make your voice sound all milky like the radio announcers. The most effective one is called the compressor. It compresses the dynamic range of your audio file so that the loud parts are softer while keeping the volume of the softer parts the same. The net result is that you voice sounds smoother to the audience.

I usually lower the pitch slightly as well. On Audacity, you have four ways to specify the change you want: musical note, semitone, frequency or percentage. I only lower it by half a semitone which works out to a 2.87% drop in my voice pitch so it's a small change but I think my voice sounds better afterwards. You can play around with this to see what pitch suits your voice best.

The last effect I use is the bass boost. Predictably, it amplifies the bass frequencies of the audio file. Now, it does NOT lower the pitch of the file. It only amplifies the bass frequencies while leaving the treble frequencies unchanged. This effect rounds out the bottom and takes the tin out of the recording. Sometimes, my voice can sound tinny and shallow. The bass boost eliminates that and leaves my voice sounding like honey.

At the time of this writing, my audio files have been downloaded over 17,000 times in 27 countries. I don't use these effects to completely alter my voice. If you listened to my recordings, it sounds just like me. But the effects I've described above make it incredibly smooth and pleasing to the ear, allowing the listener to absorb the content rather than being distracted by a poor voice quality.

I have two pieces of advice. First, find a way of incorporating voice recordings into your business. It adds a personal dimension to your online presence and enhances trust. Second, use the effects I've described above to improve the sound quality of your recordings. Your audience will respect you more as a result. <bio>Become a recognized expert. Here are the routes I chose and what worked best.

Platform

From the beginning I decided to go with the Mac platform, just because I had played with their iLife included software "GarageBand" and was somewhat satisfied with its recording capabilities. I don't think it has everything, but I got a Powerbook G4 in 2003 and now own a MacBook Pro.

Straight Line-In w/ Radio Shack Adapter

The first thing I tried was to use the built-in line-in on my Mac, which is a 1/8 inch female stereo port. So, I got a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter from Radio Shack. This was the worst way to interface my guitar to my computer. The part from Radio Shack didn't fit my instrument cable just right, it caused undue wear on my Mac's port, and the sound was super tinny.

iMic

The iMic is basically the same as the Radio Shack adapter, only its got a short cable on it and it fit my instrument cable better. I still got a pretty tinny sound.

M-Audio Fastrack USB Audio Interface

I had my first fruits of success with this $99 audio interface. Essentially it takes your guitar's or microphone's analog signal and turns it into a digital one. It sends the digital data via USB to your recording software, and voila!

This solution was my first experience of semi-professional sounding recordings, paired with some GarageBand post-production mixing and effects. There was still a problem with buzzing and feedback, however.

I also borrowed a friend's mixer which would allow me to do some mixing, and balancing, and pretty soon I was making stereo recordings. It sounded pretty good, but the interference increased. I had too many connections and cables and opportunities for signal loss and corruption.

Alesis 8-Channel USB Mixer

This is the solution that has worked best for me for a small home-grown budget while getting virtual recording studio quality. This mixer was around $200, but acts as both a regular analog mixer, and a USB interface (both parts of which can be used independently of the other). This mixer/USB interface removes some of the seams of the rig, allowing for purer sounding, higher quality recordings. The mixer also features 100 different pre-amp effects.

So, essentially, the signal goes from my guitar, through a cable to my USB mixer, through the USB cable straight to my computer. There are very few analog connections involved.

Behringer iAXE 393

There is one more option that has even less analog connections. The Behringer iAXE 393 has a USB port right on it, allowing you to plug it straight into your computer digitally. This is quite an incredible idea, allowing seamless digital recording. Hopefully more guitar companies will jump in and add their own USB versions of their guitars.

I tested the iAXE, and I must say that although the action was a little high, the guitar sounded great, pumping data straight into Garageband. <bio>Cameron Postelwait (http://yellowsubterfuge.com) is Conent Manager for http://Sewelldirect.com, retailers of the Behringer iAXE 393 (http://www.newfromsewell.com/behringer-iaxe393-usb-guitar-w-analog-output-= white/ iAXE 393) </bio>

Medical transcription is not the career path for everyone but it's quickly becoming an ever growing aspect of the health care industry and if it's a profession that interests you it, it offers a great opportunity for those that have the talent and desire to pursue it.

One of the most appealing aspects of medical transcription is that it offers multiple career options. Once trained and certified you can pursue the traditional job route and work for an established company or you can go the entrepreneurial route and set up a home office. Even the home office requirements are pretty basic which makes it a fairly simple and straightforward process to set up and get started.

Like all fields, technology is becoming an ever increasing aspect of medical transcription but an internet connection and computer remain the cornerstones of any medical transcriptionist. However, more and more, products are becoming available that will assist you in increasing your productivity and your accuracy.

For those of you relatively new to the field of medical transcription, you make still have the idea that a medical transcriptionist simply writes down or transcribes whatever a doctor has dictated onto a tape recorder. To a degree, that's still true today but digital recordings have made a big difference in the sound quality and overall poor quality, scratchy tapes are becoming less and less common.

Technology associated with medical transcription is also making it much easier for health care professionals to provide their dictated messages to you - the medical transcriptionist. No longer do you have to have the recorded message in your hand. It's now possible to receive your recordings via the telephone. You simply have to set up a recording device specifically designed for medical transcription on your home phone and then have your clients' phone in their dictations.

Once your client has dictated their message onto your phone system, you now have the option of either transcribing it directory from the recorder or it can be routed to your computer's dictation software and you can transcribe it from there. Another nice aspect of these systems is that they are flexible and easy to use for both you and your clients. For example: Many recorders come with easy to use controls that allow you to pause, stop and start, even fast forward or replay segments of the recordings using your feet and some even have voice activated controls. These are great features because they keep your hands free which allows you to transcribe and control the recordings at the same time.

Although medical transcription is an emerging career field with great potential it's also a demanding profession with tight deadlines and little or no room for error. However, with the vast array of currently available training and technology if you have what it takes, it does offer unlimited potential. It's also one of the few professions today that offers real job security because if you can handle the deadlines and produce accurate transcriptions on time, you should never have to worry about losing your job.

On the other hand, if you are simply looking for a part-time income while raising your children, by working a few hours a day, it may simply be an effort in futility because of the deadlines and the demands required from a medical transcriptionist. You'll have to be the judge of that. <bio>Visit http://www.total-transcription.com or http://www.total-transcription.com/sitemap1.html or http://www.total-transcription.com/links.html for more information on a career in Medical Transcription. </bio>

Remember when popular bands had to be flown out of town just to record at some multi-million dollar recording facility built on several acres of land? They had rooms large enough to record an entire symphony orchestra and had great sounding natural reverb and room response.

Most of those studios today have either closed down or downsized because of the home studio revolution. All across the globe, people are starting to realize that they could make high quality recordings in the comfort of their own homes, provided they invest enough time in the gear, software and technical know-how.

Recording is still an art that has to be learned and perfected, which is why there are big studios and commercial project studios that exist to this day. For the musician or recording enthusiast, there's no better way to get your feet wet in the recording industry by applying for an apprenticeship at the commercial studios downtown. But what if you're just a casual/hobby musician who doesn't want to become a fulltime engineer? Perhaps setting up a small home studio is for you!

Equipment for your home studio

Running your own studio for you and your friends to work material on is perhaps one of the greatest satisfactions a musician can ever have. Apart from not having to pay the rent and electricity for a commercial facility, you can record from the comfort of your own home with a minimum of gear whose cost now runs a fraction of what it used to even a few years ago.

You can turn your bedroom or living room into a home studio, provided that you don't mind spending countless hours making music in it. Aside from the computer that you'll be using, you'll need a hardware interface to get sound into your computer, as well as a microphone, some speaker monitors, and your recording software.

These are choices that you can research on your own over on the internet, as the home studio has become rather ubiquitous in recent years thanks in no small part to the proliferation of very powerful recording suites and software synthesizers. Even computer hardware related to recording has dropped in prices as more and more companies are gearing a portion of their product line to the bustling home studio market.

Sound insulation for your home studio

Of course, you can't get the top dollar room sound commercial studios offer, but you can get a decent sounding room (i.e. not as horrible as you think) by investing a good amount in buying sound insulation and acoustic treatment products. These products generally fall into three categories, namely absorbers, diffusers and reflectors. These treatment materials all help in creating an acoustically neutral environment for you to work your music in.

These products can be found all over the internet, with a minimum package of absorbers and bass traps costing a little under a thousand dollars. It is arguable that spending a sizeable amount to treat your room for sonic neutrality will be even more beneficial than buying a single piece of expensive recording equipment because no matter what happens, your environment will always influence what you are hearing, and as such if you listen to your recordings in a poorly treated environment (in a bathroom, for example), you're less likely to get an accurate and good sounding mix.<bio>Emics is a leading laboratory providing calibration and Inspection services</bio>

Jazz is one of the only original musical art forms. It is defined as "originating around the start of the 20th century in New Orleans, rooted in African American musical styles blended with Western music technique and theory." One of the most famous jazz musicians was John Coltrane. In his study of Coltrane's newest posthumous release entitled "John Coltrane: Fearless Leader", Norman Weinstein analyses on of jazz's greatest stars and the CD that summarizes his sessions from 1957 to 1958.

Coltrane did not start his first jazz group until 1960,( a quartet including Steve Kuhn, Pete LaRoca and Billy Higgins), so the period of time described in this CD is prior to any real self controlled, organized play on his part. First Weinstein discusses the difference between Coltrane's pre-Atlantic, pre-Impulse recordings versus the later sound. Coltrane has recordings that go all the way back to 1946 but he did not start recording professionally and with a means to preserve and distribute until 1955. After this point however, he created and produced an impressive number of albums. Since his death, some of these have been released. Still others have been releases solely on the merit of his having been playing on the side or in a lesser portion of a recording. Weinstein mentioned that a previous Coltrane release, a 16 disc set was overwhelming and that the new 6 disc set of his review is a much more manageable collection of Coltrane's music, though not as exhaustive as the aforementioned collection.

He recommends tuning out the other musicians and concentrating solely on Coltrane and bassist Paul Chambers and calls Coltrane's playing "intensely inspired."

Weinstein goes through each disc, listing the songs and recommends listening to the CD's in backwards order as they are chronologically listed. He suggests that the listener go back in time and listen to Coltrane's earliest represented recordings last instead of first as a kind of musical audio deconstruction.

Biographical information on Coltrane suggests that he began to play while a young man in a racially segregated community after the death of his aunt, grandfather and father. His musical passion seemed to be built from the grief over these deaths and his sadness was transformed into "practicing obsessively." Though the new CD set does not go that far back into Coltrane's early years. It depicts and records a specific time of his growth. Weinstein contends that you are able to hear that growth and that it is well worth the purchase. <bio>Taisha Grant writes about http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com,http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/InstrumentPro.com.html and http://www.musicalinstrumentsetc.com/Coupons/Guitar%20Trader.html </bio>

Transcription is a process through which verbal communication is converted into written text. The source material often consists of video or audio tape recordings of formal or informal conversations, which need to be turned into written form for further analysis, practical usage or sometimes translation into a different language.

The following are examples of circumstances in which a transcription may be needed:

- court hearings (a witness' statement or a formal legal proceeding) - prison (when a prisoner is interviewed under caution) - data gathering (from interviews subsequently used for statistics, reports, documentaries, research or medical purposes etc.) - journalistic purposes (interviews relevant to a specific topic which will be subsequently reported and expanded on in a newspaper, magazine, journal etc.) - business purposes (recordings of conferences, round table or board meetings) - academic environment (recordings of lectures)

Transcripts produced in such circumstances are often used for official purposes and require a high level of accuracy. This has led to an increase in the number of professional linguists specializing in a specific area of expertise.

Another form of transcription involves instead the conversion of verbal communication into written symbols that match the sounds produced during the speech. This is called a phonetic transcription and is carried out by using a series of internationally recognized symbols which constitute the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet).

However when the normal alphabet is used for the transcription of verbal communication which contains a word in another language the written form might become an adaptation rather that a precise conversion. This happens with languages which do not share the same alphabet or sounds. In this case the conversion of that particular word is called a transliteration, which uses a series of conventions so that a sound can be reproduced as closely as possible through the alphabet of the target language.

For example, this happens when a Russian, Chinese, Japanese or Arabic name is converted into English script. The resulting transliteration is a close match of the original sound produced in the foreign language and is adopted in the target language for practical usage.

As previously mentioned, transcriptions of verbal communications are often used to produce an equivalent written text in another language through translation. Translation differs from transcription and transliteration as it involves the transfer of the word meaning from source language to target a target language. For instance a Russian translation of an English document.

Translation is a much more complex skill as it requires an in-depth knowledge of the idioms, grammar, syntax and lexicon of both the source and the target language. The complexity of this process is also due to the fact that languages are self-contained systems which are governed by different rules and a word-by-word mechanical conversion would not, in most cases, succeed in conveying the message in an accurate manner.

Often the what is required is a joint transcription and translation service. The documenting of what has been stated will be the transcription and the translation will be the conversion of the document into the required language. An example project could be: Interviews filmed in Italian, the Italian transcription would then be made followed by an English translation service. <bio>The author has worked internationally and is a partner at the transcription and translation agency Axis Translations. A core part of his expertise is with transcription services. The Copyright Law Act of 1976 preempted all previous laws that were on the books in the United States, including the Copyright Act of 1909.

The Copyright Law Act of 1976 defines "works of authorship" to include all of the following:

* Musical works * Literary works * Dramatic works * Pictorial, sculptural and graphics * Motion Pictures and Audiovisuals * Sound Recordings * Choreographic Works and Pantomimes * An eighth work which falls under "architectural works" was later added in 1990.

What is unique about the United States copyright law is that it is automatic. Once someone has an idea and produces it in tangible form, the creator is the copyright holder and has the authority to enforce his exclusivity to it. In other words, the person is the owner of the creation. It is not necessary that a person register their work. However, it is recommended and it can serve as evidence if someone ever violates a copyright.

Violations of US Copyright Laws are generally enforced in a civil court setting. However, there could also be criminal sanctions brought against someone who violates US copyright laws. Someone who is in serious violation of US Copyright Laws, such as counterfeiting, can find themselves on the inside of prison. People need to understand that the copyright symbol is not a requirement. Someone may have a copyright, yet their work may not have a copyright notice or symbol.

US Copyright Law covers a wide range of things that are derived from artistic expression, intellectual or creative work. This includes things such as literary works, music, drawings, photographs, software, movies, choreographic works such as ballets and plays, poems, paintings and more. The law covers the form of expression, not the concept, facts or the actual idea of the work. This means that someone can use another person's idea or concept and produce their own take on it. However, copying another person's work is a violation. Some things may not be copyrighted but they may be protected by a patent or trademark.

Individuals who have a copyright on a particular piece of work can do what they want with it. They may choose to copy it and sell it. They may display their work or perform it in public and charge admission, or they can assign or sell the work to someone else. Individuals who have a copyright can also choose to do nothing with their work, if that is their desire. However, if someone comes along and takes the work and tries to use it in some way, that person is still in violation of the owner's copyright. The Copyright Law Act covers published and unpublished works. <bio>Brian Scott is a freelance journalist who covers copyright law for http://www.ResearchCopyright.com.
Home computer music recording has become extremely popular, both as a hobby and as a legitimate means of live recording and mixing. For the serious musician or recording technician, the computer/software combination offers ease of use and lower cost, and it requires less space than traditional methods of recording.

Recording can be accomplished by using a andquot;mixing boardandquot; to pre-mix multiple signals with their corresponding analog effects (if desired) before sending them to the computer, or each andquot;plainandquot; signal can be recorded independently to its own track through a computer audio interface, software effects applied, and the individual tracks then mixed together.

Using a mixer and analog effects, one could conceivably record without the benefit of multiple tracks, resulting in the need for less expensive, more simplistic software. For much greater control and a more polished sound, a quality multitrack software with effects is preferred.

Although more difficult to learn and use, multitrack software provides many more options for the user. The cost for quality multitrack recording software can range from $40 to several hundred dollars. Don't let the low prices fool you though, many a great recording has been made with shareware recording software.

If you aren't experienced in multitrack recording, purchasing at the low end of the spectrum makes sense. It's best to choose a product that will accept plug-ins, though. Plug-ins are small pieces of software that provide various functions (typically effects) that can be installed into the multitrack software, providing greater flexibility to the sound engineer. Several companies produce audio software plug-ins of the vst or directx variety that will work with even low cost software. A number of the plug-ins are actually offered free of charge.

For the more serious enthusiast, the computer (pc) should contain at least a Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 processor, 200gb, 7200 rpm IDE or Serial ATA hard drive, 1 gigabyte of dram, a good video card, and a high quality sound card. Any on-board video should be disabled in the cmos setup and a quality graphics card with at least 64mb ram installed.

A flat panel monitor with a 19andquot; screen is preferred over a crt. With the large viewing area, the video resolution can be set at 1280 x 1024, enabling more of the audio recording software to be viewed on the screen at one time.

On-board audio (if available) should also be disabled and a high quality sound card installed into the computer. Also, invest in a pair of quality, amplified, near-field monitors. These speakers are designed specifically for music recording. Remember, if you're serious about your recordings, you'll want the music to be reproduced as realistically as possible.

A computer audio interface of some sort is a real necessity. It should have 1/4andquot; inputs for instruments such as electric guitars or keyboards, as well as XLR inputs for microphones. 48v phantom power should be avaiable for condensor mics, as well. A mixer could even be plugged into the audio interface if more flexibility is needed.

More and more, musicians are realizing the high quality and low costs associated with producing their own recordings, while those interested in the technical side of recording can see the increased benefits of digital recording, mixing and mastering. <bio>Steve Leedy is a local government computer IT and webmaster with a keen interest in home music recording. His website, http://www.pcmusicstuff.com/ contains a variety of software and information for anyone interested in learning digital audio recording. </bio>

Many who suffer with tinnitus are not familiar with the correct methods to manage tinnitus and ear ringing. Some believe there is an overnight treatment that can cure most types of tinnitus while some believe that there is no hope for their tinnitus. Well both of these are not right.

There many ways to tinnitus noises. It must start with a very healthy body and immune system. Adequate taking of nutritional supplements is necessary as a supplement. Bioflavonoids, panthothenic acid, magnesium, potassium, manganese and zinc are also advised.

With a very loud ringing in the ears no one can chill out and get a decent night's sleep. If they think there is no solution for this then they must think again. Sometimes it is because the a ringing in the ears sounds they experience are not that intense and they are not bothered by the ringing. While there are also some people with tinnitus whose business family and life is drastically affected because of the very loud noises in the ears that they have. The noises are so loud that some of them would be almost driven to distraction by the consistent ringing sound. There are many tinnitus sufferers that don't bother going for a diagnosis even if they hear an unusual ringing sound in their ears.

As getting sufficient sleep and rest is extremely difficult for a person with very loud ear ringing symptoms , using white noise maskers do help a lot. These are played at a volume higher than the volume of the tinnitus sounds so that it is the white noise that a person with tinnitus hears and not the tinnitus sounds. To assist with treating tinnitus, maskers are CD recordings of white noise, the same sound that is you hear when you listen to an empty radio station. This way a person is able to relax and sleep and forget about the ear ringing sounds.

And while taking the homeopathic treatment, it is best to use tinnitus masking therapy such as white noise CD's to mask the noises and fall asleep. The right homeopathic tinnitus remedies based on the symptoms of the tinnitus are recommended in coordination with the vitamin supplements. <bio>John Currie is an expert in tinnitus and he and his wife run the busiest tinnitus advisory and treatment website on the internet.
So you have got the bug and have fallen in love with listening to audio books. Aren't they just brilliant as you can listen to them absolutely anywhere, at home, while doing your gym workout and on the way to and from work. Anyway now that you have become an audio book disciple the main problem you have to address is what type and style of player suits your particular lifestyle and budget.

If you intend to spend most of your listening time in the comfort of your own home then you could quite easily use the CD player in your sound system. If you want to listen to audio books while you are driving in your car then you would be best off using the in-car CD player.

Some audio book devotees still hold on to old technology and prefer to listen to their chosen books on the old fashioned cassette player although these days getting quality audio book recordings on this medium is becoming much harder.

There is much debate about which is the "best" medium for listening to your audio books, however, I believe the practical approach is to look for a player that suits your own individual requirements and budgets.

An old friend of mine who is one of the earliest devotees to audio books has a very extensive collection of "vintage" audio book cassettes and plays them on an equally old cassette audio book player. Even though there has been many technical advancements like digital playing devices as well as the newer audio book formats that can be downloaded online, this friend much prefers to listen to his audio book recordings in a cassette format. I suppose that for him its just like people who still cling to their LP records and resist buying cassettes and now CD's - as the saying goes 'each to their own' as everyone has their own preferences.

If you are just starting out on your audio book experiences (or if it is an important part of your education) then working with just any player is not going to give you the level of listening pleasure you are looking for.

Since the introduction of such devices as MP3 players, these have become the preferred option for the vast majority of audio book listeners. There is a wide selection of MP3 players to suit every level of budget. You can choose many different brands, sizes and styles to fit with your individual requirements. It is important to note, however, that not all MP3 players can play audio books to the required optimal specifications of that book.

Some important facts to consider when determining if your MP3 player is suitable to take on the role as your audio book player include the following:

The MP3's conversion rate: The ideal rate for your MP3 player should be above 16KB so as to deliver the right clarity of sound.

The MP3's memory capacity: Here it is crucial that your chosen player has an adequate amount of Gigabytes. As many audio books can run for quite a long time, often up to 10 hours, the complete recording will not fit onto a player with a capacity of less than 1 Gigabyte.

The MP3's maximum volume: Whilst the level of loudness you intend to play your audio books at is generally a matter of preference or tolerance, most MP3 players are unable to play an audio book at a sound level that is able to compete with outside noise. MP3 players are great for playing with music where the nuances are not as delicate as the spoken word. If this is a problem with your Mp3 audio book player then you should opt to wearing a covered headphone rather than the ear-plug style.

The MP3's software: When choosing a suitable player you should consider whether the player's software allows you to go back to a particular chapter if you suddenly run out of batteries and the player stops. Also does your player have an organized system of sorting through an audio book's different chapters.

These are all very important features that your audio book player should have. A word of warning - ask for a 'test listen' before buying an audio player and don't forget take an example audio book with you to test it with rather than a music disk. <bio>If you would like more information on other Audio Book Players then go to http://www.audiobooksretreat.com/ </bio>

If you've browsed the internet at all, you've likely seen many advertisements for ringtones. Some of them are free, some are not. Of course, they are ringtones for your mobile phone. Other phones just use plain ringtones, and are usually not customizable.

Mobile phone manufacturers originally designed mobile phones with customizable ringtones so that you could easily tell if if it was your phone ringing when you're with a group of people. Things change though, and mobile phone ringtones are now much more than a convenience -- they are an art form, even a fashion statement ("I'm cooler than you 'cause my ringtone is cooler than yours...").

Mobile phone ringtones come in three basic varieties:

Monotone: Most monotone ringtones are something akin to your plain old ring that you might find on a touch tone phone. Or perhaps they are a beep, beep, beep. Either way, these are your Plain Jane ring tones.

Polyphonic: These ringtones use multiple tones to create melodies. Polyphonic, of course, just means "many sounds". Polyphonic ringtones are usually MIDI files. MIDI files are not actual audio files. Instead a MIDI file is a set of instructions that tell the player (in this case your phone) what instrument sounds to play and when. Polyphonic ringtones are a great upgrade on standard ringtones, but they still don't really sound like a real audio recording.

MP3: These are the Rolls-Royce of ringtones. They are actual MP3 audio files of the original recording. You can usually purchase and download to your phone MP3 ringtones of your favorite songs for a couple dollars each. They will sound nearly identical to the original recording, just lower quality. The recordings are also often edited to make them suitable for use as a ringtone.

Customized ringtones can provide you a lot of fun with your phone -- you can make your phone "you" with ringtones. <bio>Check out our site for ringtones, polyphonic ringtones and more! http://www.bingoringtones.com/ </bio>

An audio book is a relatively new format and one that arouses skepticism in many people, especially if they have been brought up to appreciate the written word. This is unfortunate, because an audio book is very easy to use and, with the right hardware and software combination, many people could begin to appreciate a whole new world of story-telling and information.

It's fair to say that age plays an important role in the acceptance of audio books. Older folks, surprisingly, are often more inclined to accept the new format. The BBC has been broadcasting serialized classics on the radio for many years and so 'listening' to a story is not an unusual phenomenon for older people.

Also, we must be aware that the audio book has come a long way since Native American tribes were recorded by J.P.Harrington in 1933. He recorded the oral histories of these tribes so that future generations could enjoy them and also preserve a very important part of history.

Eventually, the 'Books for the Adult Blind Project' was created by the American Congress and led to the development of talking books for people with hearing disabilities. Soon, audio books were being made in their thousands and became a kind of public service. In fact, the National Library Service distributed millions of these audio books to blind people across the US.

How the Audio Book became part of Popular Culture

Above all other factors, technology made the audio book more widespread. Cassette recordings were favored in the 1960s and were easy to use and transport. Educational recordings became popular, especially those of a self-help nature.

The arrival of the compact disc (or CD) transformed the whole industry. As the industry matured, audio books became more polished and producers began to create higher quality recordings made in top recording studios. Actors were hired to do the voice-overs and soon the industry became a billion-dollar concern.

At the moment, the audio book is extremely popular and easily accessible by all people. The growth of the internet (and the increasing speeds available) has led to thousands of audio books being made available to download. Obviously, this is extremely convenient and makes popular recordings available at any time of night or day, and without the inconvenience of having to leave your home. The miniaturization of technology - mp3 players and phones - allows audio books to be enjoyed on the move as well. So, great classics by Shakespeare and Dickens are set to be heard by an even wider audience, perhaps even by those who might otherwise prefer to read comics.

Ironically, maybe the spread of audio books is leading many people back to reading the printed word. The worries of audio books replacing printed books is perhaps rather exaggerated, despite those who would say otherwise. There are times when ear-plugs, or headphones, simply don't cut-it and a good, traditional book is just the ticket. The physical dimension of a printed book, maybe with illustrations, takes some beating.

Both printed and audio books would seem to have their place in the world of literature! <bio>Alan Moore reviews audio books at http://www.AudioBookActive.com He is available to hire as a composer of music for audio books and you can hear his media work at http://www.alanjmoore.com </bio>
