In contemporary business practice, everyone seeks to be solely independent. There are of course great advantages of operating a business as a sole proprietor. The ultimate benefit about this type of business is that you are not only the single owner, but you work in a manner as you want without receiving control from any person, and once profits are made, you singly enjoy these proceeds. In short, there is no use trying to build up the fortunes of another person when you can in fact do the same for yourself.

If you operate as a sole proprietor, there are possibilities that you can expand into what you want. This cannot only add to your wealth, but the way you solely manage your business can alleviate your way of living. This is because once you are successful in this type of business; most of your income will be made out of the proceeds of this business.

Being a sole proprietor equally means you will direct your business the way you want. You thus avoid a situation in which you will have to act out of compulsion. Independence is an aspect often desired by every person into any form of business. Your business is your personal belonging. Therefore, you will have to take care of it in the manner appropriate to you.

If you are a sole proprietor, it will be important to have a trademark for your business. This is what will be used by your customers to tell of the difference between your goods or services from what looks like yours. Your trademark should be something peculiar to you and should in no way be similar to that of another business. Having a trademark and registering it gives you the liberty to use your business the way you want and equally gives you the right to prevent others from using your product to make money for them. You are the only person to give others authority to use any of your products.

Prior to starting your business, you should seek some counseling from a lawyer. This lawyer should have the proficiency and the experience in trademark laws necessary to lead you through. Why a lawyer proficient and efficient in trademark laws? There are various branches of laws and those relating to trademarks and its related features are quite different and complicated from other laws. Therefore, only an expert in this field will be needed. You need to have just the best lawyer if you look forward to a bright future for your business.

Your lawyer should be able to take you through from the conception of your business, right up to the naming of your business and even acquiring a trade name for that business. He or she should be able to compile your file necessary for the trademark acquisition and you must in turn work hand in hand with him to ensure that he succeeds. Keep in mind that both of you have a common goal and this is meant at seeing your business succeed.

To select a lawyer, you have to pay attention to the feedbacks from other clients or from those whom you know to have had some dealings with the lawyer. Even schedule several meetings with the lawyer and use this to determine if he or she is the right choice for you. Avoid selecting a lawyer based on his or her name. Forget about all the adverts telling you this or that is a good lawyer. Keep in mind that a good lawyer will not only have the experience needed, but will be that person who will want to take some time out and understand your personal needs. If you happen to be in California, think about a lawyer with a Boalt Hall School of Law background. Remember that you need the best if you intend to get the best from your business.<bio>Discover more detailed guide on canadian office patent trademark as well as the use of internet protection trademark for credit card fraud when you visit http://www.howtotrademarkcopyright.com, the top resource portal on how to trademark copyright your name and your businesses</bio>

Today, many of us desire to leave our jobs and go to work for ourselves. On the other hand, the dissimilarity between persons who wish for it and persons that really do it is stunning. Persons that do make the effort have two options open to them. Make their own sole proprietorship or form and affiliate marketing business. Both can be rather valuable if they are successful.

Business requires a large deal of work regardless of the path you take. The more you're put in the more you are apt to get back. On the other hand, the sole proprietorship requires a great deal more time and commitment and a a lot larger degree of danger. Creating your own business is very difficult. Unless you have a unique idea that is viable you are going to have competition with other businesses. You have to form tragedies to attract customers away from the already well recognized businesses in your region and over to yours. If you succeed the rewards can be great but if you fail you could loose everything.

Affiliate marketing businesses offer several advantages in this region. First, you are marketing products that are already in existence. Fairly identified brands are not so hard to sell particularly if the have a high-quality reputation. High-quality and trusted products will attract customers a great deal quicker than something new and unheard of. Affiliate marketing takes care of all of this for you.

Being a sole proprietor is very perilous. If your business fails like the vast majorities do your basis of income has ended. Depending on how a great deal debt your business had and how your financed the undertaking, you could loose a great deal more than income.

Affiliate marketing takes the danger away. You are compensated according to how well you perform. You do not need to be concerned how the business is performing on the whole. You get your commission based on what you sell. Affiliate marketing businesses are typically well established so you don't have to be concerned about them folding up at a moments notice.

Advertising is a huge part of any business. If you're a sole proprietor, advertising depends on you. You have to have enough in your budget to hire someone or create a campaign yourself. The first costs money and the latter requires a huge deal of time.

With affiliate marketing, the advertising is taken care of for you. You're generally given all you require in the form of leaflets, catalogs and other product information. You also apt given high-quality guidance on how best to sell the products. Affiliate marketing programs should try to help you as a great deal as possible. They better you do the better they do.

Finally, many times you could do with support and guidance when you run a business. If you're a sole proprietor, you'll have to hire out professionals for this. This runs into additional costs for your business. With affiliate marketing, there should be a representative on hand that you can get in touch with for support and guidance. This service is generally free to all members.

Business is hard no matter how you slice it. Either way you take will necessitate hard work and commitment. On the other hand, if you desire to work for yourself, why not join a program where most of the work is done for you. With affiliate marketing, the hazard is taken away. This allows you time to concentrate on what needs to be done. Making profits and creating your business. <bio>Jon Roussel is a five year veteran of the home base business industry.
According to business analysts, the home-based business trend is on the rise and a lot of people are jumping onto self-employment. The news is not surprising since there are many advantages in being self-employed and owning your own business. Aside from the fact that you can actually call something your own, there is also the sense of achievement brought by personal success. On the practical side, you get to be your own boss, which means that you decide your hours and how much effort you'll put into a project. Plus, there are certain advantages exclusive to dealing with self employed tax, sole proprietor tax, business tax, and other monetary matters.

Managing your taxes is easy, says Jan Zobel, a freelance tax specialist. Drawing from over 2 decades of tax management experience, she has the following suggestions on how to manage self employed tax, sole proprietor tax, business tax, and other independent taxes. She suggests filing appointment books, daily planners, or calendars with finance materials like taxes and banking records. Zobel tips that there is money in keeping time. Your schedule can be used as proofs to verify and clarify business expenditures like travel mileage, phone bills, and hotel receipts. Presto, instant tax deductions. She advises to log in your travel time and miles driven in business trips in your appointment book. Aside from this, Zobel also warns to take note of financial details. Often, these are the causes of tax troubles. Record those bank account deposits, regardless whether they are loans, gifts or business-related. It is also helpful if you note deposit sources. Keep these notes in a checkbook or a separate file. This way, you can separate business income from loans and gifts which aren't covered by tax. The IRS usually assumes undeclared income if audits reported an income excess even if these came as gifts. Proofs or records of these gifts prevent tax problems from the IRS. Zobel asserts that insisting you can remember everything related to your finances come tax time is unrealistic.

Self employed tax, sole proprietor tax, business tax, and independent taxes benefit greatly from separating business accounts from personal accounts. Zobel advises to keep business money in a separate account and your own money in your own account. Be reminded to write checks for business purposes from the assigned account and vice versa. For those who don't want separate accounts, Zobel suggests to note each check with remarks such as "business" or "personal" each time you write one. Identifying the purpose of the check won't hurt either such as "for office furniture". This tip minimizes mix-up of your personal and business finances. Following this tip, keeping credit cards for personal and business use separately is also preferred. She also reminds that interest in credit cards for business purposes is a hundred percent deductible. Zobel advises keeping credit card and sales receipts. These are especially handy during audits for reference. Consulting tax specialists, professional tax managers, and the internet for tax managing tips are also advised.

Lastly, whether you pay self employed tax, sole proprietor tax, business tax or freelance taxes, keep your records clean and straight. Remember also to settle your taxes on time. Racing after deadlines can make you forget key documents which might cause tax problems. <bio>For more valuable information on self employed tax, please visit http://www.taxselfemployed.com </bio>

We all know that in order to strike it rich in the business world we need to formulate a unique idea, that has never been created before, and make a business out of it. Even though many people have done just that, many people who operate a work at home business, suffer from failure. This is not because their idea is not unique, it generally has to do with the fact that many people do not really know how to operate a work at home business, even the smallest basics.

When you have decided to operate a work at home business, the first thing you should think about how you will legally operate your business. You will have to decided between four different choices and these are Corporation, limited partnership, partnership, or sole proprietorship.

Sole proprietorship is the best choice for someone operating a work at home business, for the simple fact that you are looking to break free of your current job and experience independence and freedom that you had never had in your life.

A Successful Work at Home Business

The first and most important aspect of operating a successful business is having a good rein on the expenses. You do not want to start on the wrong foot. Many people believe that the legal costs, expensive furniture, or a flashy office determines success. However, the good rule of thumb is to avoid purchases that do not protect your investment or fails to make you any money.

Sole proprietorship is chosen for many reasons, one is you have the ability to invest anything and everything without having to protect that investment with a corporation. If any protection is needed you have it within the Federal Bankruptcy Act home provision. Thanks to this act, some areas of your life is protected such as portion of your home's equity, vehicle, personal belongings, and household items.

However, becoming a partner or sole proprietor of a work at home business does not exclude you from taxes. You will still have taxes similar to when you were at a hourly or salary paid employment. Some people choose a corporation because within the laws you have the ability to manipulate the salary you earn to save money during tax time.

If you own a work at home business and incorporate it, there are disadvantages to this as well. Typically when you incorporate a business, there are a variety of legal papers needed when you make major changes within the business. You also need to undertake extremely elaborate account methods, higher taxes, as well as strict operation laws when it comes to your work at home business. <bio>Victoria Hargis has over 10 years experience in internet marketing and is the CEO of http://www.YourWebBizHere.com The place where work at home moms find the tips, tricks and tools to start and build their home business. </bio>

What should a business plan cover?

That's the million dollar question.

For one thing, it should offer a thorough analysis of the need for the particular product or service you are planning to offer. It also needs to talk about how you are qualified to be making such an offering to the public.

A business plan should address your strategies in terms of production and marketing, how you will be organized, any legal aspects that you must address, and what your accounting methods will be. In short, a business plan should address the following questions:

* What do I want and what am I capable of doing? * What are the most workable ways of achieving my goals? * What can I expect from the future?

Keep in mind that there is not one specific format that you should use, or one best way to lay out your business plan. However, there are some steps you can take to make the process go a little more smoothly; we've listed what we think is the easiest method, below.

Step 1: Making the Commitment =96 be sure that you desire to work for yourself is truly greater than you desire to work for someone else.

Step 2: Analyze yourself =96 list your strengths and weaknesses. Determine how you can build off your strengths, and improve on your weaknesses. Remember, this can be a daunting task because you may have to own up to a few shortcomings you're not prepared to recognize!

Step 3: Choose a Product or Service =96 this sounds silly, but just because you think you know what business you want to be in, it doesn't mean your idea will be a profitable one. Take a look at the feasibility of your idea.

Step 4: Research Your Market =96 marketing research is crucial to the success of any business, large or small. The more you know about your potential market, the greater your chances of securing the customers you want, right out of the gate, and that means making a profit.

Step 5: Forecast Your Sales Revenue =96 after you take a look at the market your product is best suited for, estimate the percentage of that market that you think you will reasonably be able to take over. Take in to account the number of your competitors, their size, and the amount of market they already have. It is important to be realistic during this exercise.

Step 6: Choose a Location =96 is your new business going to be on the web? Or will you have a retail storefront? Will you consult out of your home office? Be careful to weight both your personal preferences and what makes the most sense for the ultimate success of your business. You might like the idea of working in your pajamas every day, but if your shingle needs to be seen by the public for maximum growth potential, a home office might not be your best option.

Step 7: Develop a Marketing Plan =96 here you will be forced to detail you plan to gain customers, and turn a profit. Discuss possible marketing channels, price points, advertising, and sales promotion.

Step 8: Develop an Organizational Plan =96 what skills and talents do your new business need to not only survive, but to grow as well? If you don't have all these traits, how are you going to get them in the door? Will you hire freelancers? Are you hoping to bring on an employee right away? If these individuals, and their skill sets, are vital to your success, do not make a plan without them!

Step 9: Decide on Your Status =96 sole proprietor? Partnership? You need to decide how you're going to approach this, and investigate the legal ramifications of each situation. As a sole proprietor, you're in control, but you're also solely responsible. In a partnership, you share the responsibility, but you also share the decision making and the profits. What works best for your budget AND your personality?

Step 10: Address Your Accounting =96 if you don't know how much money is coming in and out of your business, you will never know if you are making a profit, or if you need to make changes. Keeping track of your numbers is one of the single most important things you can do for your business. Decide on whether you will do it in house, or outsource it to a professional; if you take care of it yourself, decide on what software you will use.

Step 11: Put it All into Numbers =96 this may or may not be necessary for you; it depends on what type of business you are starting. When you approach a financial institution for a small business loan, they will respond better if they see all of your plans in numbers; they are, after all, in the business of numbers. So, go back through all the above steps, and assign dollar amounts to what you can; when you approach the bank, you can tell them exactly how much you need, and show them where their money will be going. You can then show them, with a number, how much of the market you are planning to corner, and your growth, by percentage, over the next X years.

That's it =96 wasn't so hard after all, was it? <bio>Aaron Foster is the owner of http://BusinessOwnersOnline.com.
Who hasn't dreamed of quitting their day job, starting their own company, and living happily ever after? Abrasive bosses and questionable decisions can make a normal nine to five job grow stale pretty fast. Today, more people than ever are enjoying the freedom that comes with starting a small business and being their own boss, but what about the taxes? How much should you pay, and how often? What can you claim as business expenses? What can be deducted?

One good thing about those regular, nine to five jobs is that they take care of tax payments for you by withholding them from your paycheck. If you start up a small business of your own, you will be responsible for withholding your own taxes and paying them on a different schedule.

Sole proprietorships, the category which many small businesses fall under when they are created, have relatively simple tax rules. The sole proprietor pays estimated taxes four times a year. If they fail to pay quarterly, they will be penalized at tax time, to the tune of 8% of their annual income. Those who fail to pay their taxes at all can expect the IRS to come knocking =96 literally or figuratively, depending on how much they neglected to pay. To avoid the dreaded audit, make sure to keep meticulous records of your income and business expenses, and pay your taxes on time. Tax payment coupons can be printed from popular tax software programs, or downloaded from the IRS web site.

This is more inconvenient than having your taxes withheld from the get-go, but small businesses also get special tax benefits that you won't enjoy as someone else's employee. If you do most of your work from home, you can claim a deduction for your home office, including the depreciation on the space. Remember, a home office doesn't have to be an entire room. Part of a room will suffice. Rent can also be claimed as a business expense. The forms can be confusing, though, so be sure to read them carefully and enlist a tax professional if you need help.

Self-employed workers can also write off business equipment purchases as tax deductions, to a maximum of $18,500 per year. If you need a better computer to keep up with your business needs, you can feel good about buying one, because it counts as a valid business expense. Contributions to retirement plans are also deductible. And don't forget the expenses you incur from marketing, advertising, and promoting your business. Gasoline and auto repairs can be deducted if you use your car for your business or if you have a company-owned vehicle. Office supplies are another deduction.

Other, less tangible expenses can be used as tax deductions. These include the interest and fees from carrying credit card debt on business expenses. This area gets tricky, though, so I recommend hiring a professional to help you wade through the forms and procedures.

Tax rules get a little more confusing when you hire employees. A husband and wife can work together and maintain a sole proprietorship, but if you hire an outside employee, you'll need to apply for a tax identification number from the IRS. Then you will be responsible for keeping records for each employee, withholding the appropriate amount of tax from their wages, and paying it to the government. The good news is that you can deduct the employment taxes you pay.

To find out more about the tax rules and tax benefits that apply to you, take a look at the IRS web site. Other great resources exist online. All you need to do is a little research to avoid getting caught up in a tangle of tax trouble. <bio>This article has been provided courtesy of Destroy Debt, http://www.destroydebt.com </bio>

For most entrepreneur's, there is nothing more exciting than starting your own business. Working for others may be a necessity so you can get on your feet, gain some experience and a book of business, and move forward securely, but it is hardly the ideal for a true entrepreneur who has the spirit and passion to go out on their own.

While this entreprenerial spirit can be positive, and indeed most of the great pioneers in American history have been truly entrepreneurial in nature, this personality type does lend itself to some signficant flaws. Primary among them, entrepreneurs are often too positive in nature, too willing to take on risks that maybe they should not, and too passionate to move forward without often doing the necessary research to do so in the best manner possible.

This is often true with regard to the structure of the business. Indeed, many entrepreneurs do not even bother incorporating. Especially for an online venture where it is simply too easy to open a new website to try selling a new product or service, the process of incorporating can seem to just "get in the way" of going ahead and making money!

However, there are some very important advantages to incorporating a business, and a good entrepreneur would be wise to take heed before moving forward. One advantage is that if your business is a limited liability corporation, this means your individual assets are not at stake as they would be if you were the sole proprietor. As a shareholder, your risk is determined by the amount you have invested. What belong to the company belongs to the company, and what belongs to you belongs to you-- you will not be risking your own personal assets.

Second, there are some tax advantages to incorporation. When your business's tax credit is applied, your taxable income is likely to be significantly lower than it would be without this business deduction. You will also be eligible for tax deferral. While these are important points in general, they are even more beneficial to a business which is relatively new and not yet secure in its financial assets. When your business is incorporated, dealing with your annual income taxes will involve a little less money and much less worry.

Incorporating your business has the potential for helping your business to grow. This can cover a variety of aspects from attracting more customers to making more sales to having your business more widely recognized. Your small business simply has the potential of doing more business and better business if it is incorporated. While it is not a guarantee, there usually is a much higher responsiveness to a limited liability corporation than to a business that is a sole proprietorship.

If you have decided, or are considering, incorporating your small business, it is wise to seek assistance from an attorney. While incorporating your business is not extremely difficult, there are many steps and much paperwork necessary for this process, and the process will be easier and accurate if you do not try to do it all on your own.

All in all, the entrepreneurial spirit and the American Dream are what keeps this country moving forward. It is wonderful, and nothing should take that away from a true entrepreneur. But, that does not mean that you should not move forward with caution, and with respect to first setting up your business structure properly and legally, could mean the difference between success and failure.<bio>Sandy Pensner has been an entrepreneur for a number of years, and has set up numerous entities.
When you are looking to build a business from home, you need to know what you are looking for. Do you want to build from scratch or become a representative for an already established business? You need to carefully evaluate what it is you want to accomplish, and how much time, money and effort you are willing to put in to accomplish it.

**Starting From Scratch

If you decide to start your business from scratch there are many things to consider:

Sole proprietorship or Partnership? Incorporate? Where will you operate, will you need a factory/warehouse? Where will you purchase supplies, materials, and products? Will you set up your marketing materials such as flyers, catalogues, order forms, etc or pay someone else to do so? Will you need to develop a look, a logo, and a style for your business?

There are many advantages to owning your business and being the person who started the business from scratch, there are also many responsibilities that you will need to be prepared to handle as the sole proprietor of your business. When you start your business from scratch you will need to seek out support so that you can learn how to run your business, find resources for supplies, meet new contacts to grow your business.

**Joining An Existing Business

The business opportunities available are as varied as you can imagine, with this type of variety there is something for just about everyone. When you join an existing business as a distributor you will have a product (or service) that is already developed and often proven. Joining a company as a distributor means that you can focus on developing a plan of action to grow your business and you do not have to focus on development of product or marketing materials.

Network Marketing, also know as Multi-Level-Marketing, is a very powerful type of business and if you haven't considered it before you may be missing something very big. Now maybe you associate MLM with pushy people who try to drag you into their business by telling you that you can have the life of your dreams, the car of your dreams, a huge home and all the things you've ever wanted. This is not the true picture of Network Marketing. There is no shame in representing a company that you believe in, selling a real and high quality product, and building a team of people that will do the same. This is the power in this type of business!

Here are some things to consider if you are thinking about becoming a representative for a company that allows you to recruit new partners:

What do they represent? - Make sure you know what their product is and if it is high quality. You need to represent something you are proud of, something you believe in, and it will shine through.

What kind of support and training do they offer? -- The training and support a company offers can be invaluable to your success. If they have solid training that has been used and proven by others then you will start you business of on the right path my following it closely.

How do they allow you to promote their products? -- Can you sell online? Are you limited strictly to home parties? Can you do fundraisers? These are questions to ask of a company you are considering joining.

Are there any minimums that they require for you to remain active? -- Many companies will have a minimum purchase amount for you to remain active as a representative, find out what they require and determine if you can handle this.

So when you are looking to work from home consider all the options, you never know what might pop out when you start considering everything that is out there. Just remember what you want to get out of your business and follow your passion! <bio>Angela Wills has been working from home since 2002 when she had her first child.
If you're going to dig into your wallet and buy that elliptical, you want to make sure you're getting the best model for your money. The last thing you want to do is throw down a pile of cash on a piece of junk that's going to gather dust in your garage for the rest of eternity. Here are some elliptical reviews to help you choose the right one. These models are considered by many to be the best bang for your buck.

Proform 20.0

Ellipticals are known for their fancy special features. You can program these things to do just about anything with your workout. But, what's more important than having some good tunes to get you through your elliptical routine?

At around $800 retail, the Proform 20.0 goes where no ellipticals (at that price, anyway) dare to go. It offers you advanced stereo features, including an iPod and mp3 player, and an excellent speaker system to play them on. You can rock and roll to your favorite songs, or listen to your favorite relaxing music while you work out.

Another feature that uses the speaker system is your personal electronic voice coach. If you have a varied workout routine, your coach can help you get through each of the steps. Many people love this feature, and it's usually only available with higher priced machines.

The Proform 20.0 also offers a couple of interactive games to liven up your workout. You won't find these features available anywhere else at such a low price.

Smooth CE 3.2

Elliptical trainers are great for their smooth, natural movement. The CE 3.2 lives up to its brand's name and offers a smooth ride at a reasonable price.

Newer machines are always upgrading, and the Smooth CE 3.2 offers the heaviest flywheel in its price range. The flywheel is an important part of the elliptical trainer that gives it its fluid, elliptical motion.

It also has a fancy braking system that makes stopping a breeze. The foot pivots are comfortable and especially designed to be easy on your joints. They are also designed to keep your feet in the right position for the best possible workout.

In addition to its comfort and motion features, the Smooth CE 3.2 has all the electronic features you would expect. You can easily program your own workout. The electronic options are much better than those of Smooth's earlier models. For more info see http://bestellipticalreviews.com/ on elliptical reviews

You can get a Smooth CE 3.2 for a little over $1,000, and at that price it's a great deal.

Sole E95

With each new model, Sole keeps improving. The Sole E95 is another great improvement at a price that can't be beat. The Sole E95 is available for under $2,000.

The Sole E95 is full of comfort features that you wouldn't expect to find on such an inexpensive model. The hand grips, in particular, are noted for their comfort. The foot pedals are adjustable, and angled perfectly for the best workout.

The E95 has 20 programs you can use, and 20 levels of resistance that you can set. This makes it the most flexible machine yet from Sole. It is also built more sturdily than any model before it. The E95 can withhold up to 400 pounds, much more than most ellipticals.

The Sole E95 has been rated by many websites and fitness magazines as the best buy elliptical trainer for under $2,000. With its special features, comfort and strength, the Sole E95 is a great machine.

These are just a few of the most popular and least expensive elliptical trainers out there. Compare elliptical reviews and you will see that these models consistently outrank others in the same price range. <bio>See more information at http://www.bestellipticalreviews.com/ on Best elliptical and http://www.bestellipticalreviews.com/Sole_Elliptical/ on Sole Elliptical. http://Bestellipticalreviews.com is a comprehensive resource to get reviews about elliptical. </bio>

Many people ask me if they are required to report the profits they earn on items they sell on eBay on their income tax return. In short, yes.

If you sell items on eBay for a profit, then you should report your eBay sales on your income tax return, and you may owe income taxes on any profits. It doesn't matter if it's just a hobby or if you are trying to build a business - if you earned a profit it's taxable income.

Generally, any income you receive from all sources is subject to income tax unless it is specifically exempt by law (hint: eBay profits are not exempt).

You must file a tax return if your net earnings from self employment are $400 or more. You are self employed if you carry on a trade or business for profit. If you are selling on eBay with the intent of making a profit, then you are self employed.

To report your eBay earnings, you should file Form 1040, and attach Schedule C or C-EZ. Schedule C is used to calculate your net profit or loss from your business, which is then reported on your Form 1040. This is assuming you are a sole proprietor. If you are incorporated, you have to file a separate business return. You will file Form 1120 or Form 1120s (for S Corporations). If you are a partnership, you will file Form 1065.

At this point, you may be thinking "I don't run a business; I just sell on eBay as a hobby". Unfortunately, income from hobbies is taxable as well. Even worse, you can only deduct expenses up to your hobby income, which means losses are not deductible.

Finally, there is a common misconception that if you did not receive a 1099 or W-2, you are not required to report your income. This is not true. All income is reportable, regardless of whether you receive a form or not. EBay is only a facilitator of the auction; therefore you will not receive a 1099 from eBay reporting your sales.

To your financial success, Kristine McKinley <bio>Kristine A.
There are many options for an individual to obtain affordable health insurance coverage. Keep in mind that there are savings in numbers; the more people in a plan, the better the savings for each member.

In some states, like Florida you may purchase group policies for a group of one. Some states allow a two-person policy to qualify for a group rate. If you are a sole proprietor and your spouse helps you with things like bookkeeping, filing or mailings, you may be able to claim them as an employee and get the group rate.

Another option for the self-employed is the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE). NASE offers self employed individuals the choice to deduct 100% of their medical premiums and 100% of their non insured medical expense from state, federal and self employment taxes through a program called 105 HFR.

If you're not in a business, don't despair. You may be able to enjoy the lower premiums associated with group plans by joining an organization such as trade or alumni associations.. For instance, as a writer, I might elect to join a group association targeted to help writers secure discounted health insurance. Groups such as ASJA American Society of Journalists and Authors.

Fitness instructors might elect to participate in the health insurance program offered through IDEA, an organization of health and fitness professionals. Pregnant women may join the American Pregnancy Association which offers both government funded programs and discount health programs such as MaternityCard AmeriPlan.

Because association health plans are not subject to the various state regulations that group health plans are subject to, they are able to offer cheaper insurance coverage. Keep in mind, however, that an association health plan is different from a group health plan in that the association does not have to offer the same premium for each member.
Even savvy entrepreneurs have trouble sometimes with their billing practices. That's because the home-based business (or very small enterprise) often doesn't have any particular "rules" governing billing. Here, we'll look at four common billing mistakes and the way those billing mistakes can be avoided.

Billing Mistake #1: Not sending out bills on a regular basis.

The Billing Fix: It's easy to repair this billing error. Basically, you need to put some kind of system in process. For example, many people who work on services or projects give their clients their bills as soon as the product is given or the service is over. That means that bills are sent out upon completion. On the other hand, some companies prefer to send out bills once or twice per month (or on some other regular timeframe, such as the third Friday of the month.) This way, they will all go out at the same time, which makes it easier on the sole proprietor or bookkeeper.

Billing Mistake #2: Not keeping tracking of bills.

The Billing Fix: Many times, business persons will send out billing notices but never record them in a spreadsheet or other computer program. Thus, they have no way of knowing what they sent out. If you only do business once or twice a year, that's not a problem; but if you are sending out many invoices on a regular basis, you need to have some way of systematically making sure that the correct billing documents have been sent out and that all your monies have been received.

Billing Mistake #3: Not having a process for billing errors.

The Billing Fix: You never want to make your customers angry, so you need to be able to answer them if they call and say, "I received this bill and it's just plain wrong!" This is another reason that you absolutely need some kind of billing tracking system so you can sensibly speak to even the most irate client. You have to be able to both assuage your irritated caller and ensure that he or she isn't trying to take advantage of you.

Billing Mistake #4: Not having a billing template.

The Billing Fix: If all your bills currently look different from one another, you need to invest in a template to streamline the image you present to your clients. Most computer software programs, such as Microsoft Word, will even provide one for you (all you do is pop in your company name, tax ID number, or other data, and it'll be customized.) This way, your bills will all be standardized and will look much more professional. After all, you want clients to be able to recognize your bills, not wonder why every invoice you send looks different from the one before it.

Remember that billing mistakes are common, but they are very easily fixed. Just put a little time and forethought into your billing procedures, and you'll look incredibly professional from the very first day you open your doors. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for DD Billing which is an excellent place to find billing links, resources and articles.
The planning stages of a business tend to be a bit hectic if for no other reason than they are where you really are given the chance to develop the plan for your business that you will refer to thousands of times over the course of the life of your business.

One of the numerous things that you need to decide during this time (or at the very least give some thought to) is what type of business you are going to run.

This has nothing to do with the actual business niche itself, but rather the actual legal type of business that you are going to be involved in. There are a number of different business types in the legal sense and while those types vary from country to country, there are general consistencies along a few major distinctions.

The first of those distinctions is the business type known as a sole proprietorship. This is the most common business type simply because it is the easiest one to start with.

A sole proprietorship consists of the business being wholly owned by one person and therefore being associated with that one person. The business expenses and liabilities are assumed by that one person, but at the same time that one person has total control over everything that the business does.

Sole proprietorships are free to start in terms of legal registration and do not require a separate tax return in most cases as the income from a sole proprietorship is usually just reported as self employment income.

Taking the next step up from a sole proprietorship, we come to the concept of a partnership. There are a number of similarities between the two business types and the most obvious ones to point out are that partnerships are cheap and easy to run in the legal sense because all of the partners can usually just report their share as self-employment income rather than requiring another tax return for the business.

The partners also share responsibility for the business by default in a legal sense unless there is an agreement that specifically assigns responsibility to one partner.

Up from a partner is a private corporation. This is a business that is a separate entity from the people that run it; all of the liabilities are the businesses and for the most part the people running the business can not be held responsible for those liabilities.

However, the maintenance of a corporation requires regular fees to be paid as well as up front registration fees and regular records of the business affairs must be kept along with regular board meetings.

Also, a separate tax return for the business is required because it is a separate entity. <bio>Dock J.
The gifting market is a $253 billion market, meaning that almost 1% of the money spent on retail is to buy a gift. This is great news for the gift professionals everywhere. With several major gifting holidays, and many other gifting occasions throughout the year, opportunity is knocking at your door.

But how do you get started?

Here are some basics needed to start a gift basket business:

First, you need to do your research:

-who is your competition? -who is your target market? -who are your potential customers?

Write a business plan: this will help you put your goals and ideas into a clear format, and serve as a place to go back and check how you are doing.

Write a marketing plan:

-how are you going to attract your potential customers? -will you profit from corporate clients, foot traffic, or a combination of ways?

Once you've done the above, choose a business name, get your business license and Tax ID.

Take time when you choose your business name: when you first start, you may want to have your name included in your business name, or even a "cute" name, but later on, as you get corporate customers, you'll realize that your name has a great impact on how your customers perceive you. If your market is "new moms", by all means use some name they can relate to, but if you plan on getting corporate clients, give it a professional name.

Next step would be to get insurance for your business: yes, it's costly. But not having one could be devastating to your company's financial future, or, if you are set up as a Sole Proprietor, your family's financial future. Business insurance is very important, and one of the costs of doing business.

You are now ready to order your inventory, and start your first prototypes.

Next, get a business phone line. And it's important that only you or one of your trained staff answer the phone. Many of us start in our homes, to be home with our kids, and that is wonderful. But if your kids are screaming in the background, don't pick up the phone: while another mom could understand your predicament, the busy assistant of a large company will probably not want to put up with that.

Once your are all set for business, you'll want to get a website, so that your clients can order on line if they choose to do so. In the last few years web design costs came down a lot, so it's not as expensive as in the past.

These are just the first few steps to get you started. Have fun and never stop learning. <bio>Adriana Copaceanu is an experienced gift professional who loves helping others.
Do you know the best legal structure for your small business? Legal structure refers to the way a business is organized. Choosing the best legal structure for your business is critical, as it affects aspects of your business ranging from tax payments to your personal financial liability. The most common types of business legal structure are sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.

The most common and simplest legal structure is a sole proprietorship, or a business owned by one person. The owner and the business are the same entity in terms of taxation: the business profits are personal profits and taxed as personal income. The owner is financially responsible for business and their personal assets will be used to cover losses or debts incurred by the business.

Two or more owners of the same business may file for partnership status. This type of business structure is very similar to the sole proprietorship- all partners are held financially responsible for the debts of the business and the tax burden is borne proportionally by the partners.

The most complex business structure, and the most difficult to obtain, is the corporation. In a corporation, the owners and investors are separate from the business in terms of taxation and income and are not held entirely liable for the company's debt.

S-Corporations (Single Person Corporation) are an option for one business owner who wants to create a corporation to save money on taxes. As the sole employee of the business, they receive a salary out of the business profit and pay the appropriate income tax. The rest of the business profit they receive as a dividend payment, on which much less tax is paid. Therefore, by separating the profit into salary and dividend, the S-Corporation owner saves money on taxes.

When deciding on the best business structure for your business, consider that most businesses start small, beginning as a sole proprietorships or partnerships. These business structures require minimal paperwork and have a simple filing process, and are best suited for smaller businesses where there is less chance for high losses or being sued. Once your business takes on more risk, deals with higher amounts of debt, or requires substantially more capital, you should consider filing for corporation status to safeguard your personal assets and have access to more capital. <bio>Your Money and You Staff have written a series of tax related articles.
The planning stages of a home based internet business tend to be a bit hectic in the initial stage. The reason for a business plan, is to give you the chance to develop a strategic path for your business that you will refer to thousands of times over the course of the life of your home based internet business. One of the numerous things that you need to decide during this time (or at the very least give some thought to) is what type of home based internet business you are going to run. This has nothing to do with the actual business niche itself, but rather the actual legal type of business that you are going to be involved in.
The use of pagers was once limited to medical professionals (as in, "Paging Dr. So-and-so, paging Dr. So-and-so!"); however, there are many people who currently use pagers and love the way that pagers assist them in their daily lives, both professionally and personally. Here, we'll look at a few of the reasons that many people have pagers.

Pagers are Perfect for Emergency Situations

If you have a family member who is seriously ill and you need to be on call in a moment's notice, a pager can be a literal lifesaver. This is especially true for children whose parents have any kind of health problems. Knowing that you can "be there" for your parents is a great relief. And because pagers can operate silently or very quietly, you can bring them into theatres, churches, and other places where ringing pagers could create a nuisance.

Pagers are Great for Those On-the-Road

Are you in your car for work a good portion of the time? Have you ever missed a critical call because you were in the Camry when it came through to your office? Why not invest in a pager? Truly, pagers are terrific for salespersons who are on the road quite frequently. They'll allow you to have freedom of movement, but you won't have to worry about missing any lucrative calls. You'll feel much better about sitting in your automobile when you know that your pager will collect any urgent messages.

Pagers Work Well for Teens

Now, this is a bit controversial, it's true, but sometimes pagers can come in very handy for teens. This is because the parents of a teenager can contact him or her at any time during the evening, thereby reassuring themselves where the teen is. Conversely, teens can buzz their parents' pagers at regular intervals so the parents don't worry too much about what their offspring are doing. It is definitely a two-way street.

Pagers are Nice for Entrepreneurs

If you are self-employed, any phone call you receive can mean dollars in your bank account. Thus, you don't want to miss a single one lest your financials suffer! Pagers can ensure than any sole proprietor is able to maintain contact with prospective clientele no matter where he or she is at the time that the call is placed. Again, it's for peace of mind, especially when bills are coming due at the end of the month!

Pagers are Useful for Older Persons

Believe it or not, pagers can be friends to those who are elderly. Loved ones can stay in touch with grandma or grandpa (especially if the grandparents have decided not to enter nursing homes) just to ensure that everything is okay. The only caveat here is that, sometimes, older persons are hesitant to use new technologies such as pagers. Be patient with them and make the whole experience of using a pager a good one.

Remember -- pagers are for everyone. It only takes a little imagination to think of ways that pagers can be beneficial to you. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for Dr Pagers which is an excellent place to find pagers links, resources and articles.
Why Bother About Cycling Shoes

Picking the right bicycle gear is as important as picking the right bicycle itself. A lot of energy is required by the biker to complete a bike journey and so it is important to wear the right clothing and shoes. Rider's body needs to feel the comfort while driving or else it may develop rashes and sores. As one continuously needs to pedal in order to ride a bike. cycling shoes become an essential part of the cycling gear.

What Should You Look For In Cycling Shoes

Foremost. they should be lightweight and comfortable. Unless the biker is relaxed. he won't be able to enjoy the bike ride and chances are that they he might get tired soon.

One should also look out for the sole material. It is this part of the shoes that eases out the major pressure points. If the outer body of the sole is thicker on the edges and thinner towards the center. it will reduce the weight to a large extent and also help in transferring power. Leather and nylon are the most commonly used sole materials.

If a mesh is provided on the upper part of the shoes. it will help the shoe and foot to breathe. Air can easily flow in and out. thereby reducing the sweat produced inside the shoes.

Grip is another area that differentiates better shoes from good ones. Spikes and anti-slip pads help in maintaining firm hold of the pedal.

Always go for shoes with good straps and laces. Loose straps and wobbly laces can break the rhythm of the ride. Nothing like a self-locking strap.

As the shoes will be used at other times also when a person is not biking. one can look out for rubber caps on the toes and heels. which will protect the sole when a person is walking.

Even when looking for a shoes whose technical specification makes it a perfect wear. one shouldn't forget about the color and style. Although these come secondary. but it is always nice to have a pair of shoes that matches the bike color and adds a zing to the overall look. <bio>Alastair Hamilton is a freelance writer for http://www.bikecyclingreviews.com .For additional information on bicycle clothes subjects follow this link http://www.bikecyclingreviews.com/shoes.html </bio>

If you're a small business (or even a sole proprietor), you may have erroneously assumed that you could never afford to pay the high price of copiers. Fortunately, the days of copiers that only the mid-to-large size companies could have on site are over. Here, we'll look at some of the best ways to find copiers within your price range.

Share a Copier

If you work in an "incubator" or other office set-up which encourages a number of start-ups to share office space, you can snag some terrific deals on copiers. Think of it this way -- if you lease a model for $1,000 a month and you spread that cost over 10 businesses, you'll only be paying $1,200 a year for copier service. That's an incredibly good deal, especially since you could wind up spending much more (especially when you factor in the time and gas "hidden" costs) of running to Staples every time you want to make copies.

Buy a Used Copier

Copiers that have "low mileage" can always be had. Be on the lookout for businesses that are closing their doors or, alternately, growing at a fast pace. (In the case of the latter, their current copiers might not be able to meet their demands; thus, they could have a number of copiers which they want to sell to make way for the newest models.) Make sure you let other professionals know you're in the market for a copier; that way, you'll have the best chances of getting one.

Buy a New Copier

You can actually find some newer copiers at some of the office supply stores in your area such as Office Max and Office Depot. They will just be basic models, of course -- you won't find fancy collating abilities and they probably cannot staple. However, they can be a phenomenal asset to any business because having a copier on your premises can make your work go much faster. And you can also make copies of articles, documents, et cetera, right on site rather than having to drive a distance just to get something printed.

Lease a Copier

As previously mentioned, it's possible to lease copiers as a whole group. But you can also do it on your own if you have enough need for a copier. For example, if you're a sales professional and you sell insurance, it might behoove you to have a copier in your home. That way, you can make copies right in your home office and won't have to waste precious selling times (such as between 9:00 a.m. and noon and 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.) rushing around to find copiers. Call a copier shop in your area and ask for a no-obligation consultation with someone who is knowledgeable about copiers. You can probably also get a good deal through your copier liaison on some kind of maintenance package.

Again, you don't have to assume that copiers are out of your price range. Though you might never have thought you could afford it, there are plenty of copiers out there, and there are plenty of ways for you to get some great deals. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for Danka Copiers which is an excellent place to find copiers links, resources and articles.
