A swimming pool is one place where we all want to be on a hot day. Swimming is such a relaxing exercise, and it is enjoyed by people of all ages. Kids love splashing, while adults love swimming in the water. Swimming is an excellent sport, and reduces fat as well. A perfect swimming pool adds a lot of class to a beautiful home. If you are in the process of getting a pool or redoing your old pool, read on!

Swimming Pool Basics:

Typically, a swimming pool has the following major components:

• Basin • Motor pump • Water filter • Chemical feeder • Drains • Returns • PVC plastic plumbing connecting all of these elements

A good pool will have all the following components, so that the water is moved continuously from the filter, cleaning it, sometimes through the heater also, so that regular temperature is maintained. The water is consistently cleaned using the chemical feeders, with the help of chlorine, as it keeps water free from any bacteria.

Doing up a great pool:

The drain system is best laid at the lower end of the pool with the surface slanting towards it, so that the water can flow easily through the drains. The drains should be covered with grates so that while swimming, people do not have their hair or swimsuits caught up in them. A strainer is attached at the mouth of drains so that any debris is caught. A good pool must have powerful pumps that can help water flow through the filter and chemical feeder; to and from the swimming pool.

High rate sand filters are the best kind of filters that will clean the water perfectly. They use sand to clean water of any debris present. Some pools may also use the diatomaceous earth filter, or a cartridge filter. This filter cleans very fine particles of debris. Ideally in any pool, the water should pass the filter every 30 minutes, and for the largest ones, every six hours.

The pump and filter should also be connected to a fresh water line. Calcium hypochlorite or sodium hypochlorite make great chemical cleaning agents. An automated chlorine feeder should be hooked to the filters for good chemical filtration.

Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate should be used as per the requirement, to keep the pH under control right from 7.8 to 7.9. After filtration, the water should be sent back to the pool. A great pool requires the best of the filters, chemical filters, drains and pumps.

Most people look at the pool and think that that is the most important part of the set up, but in fact equally important is the pumps room, where pumps and filters are installed. A pump room is where the water quality is maintained. There are some other issues that one may face while getting a pool done. Some of these are:

When to dig a pool?

Contrary to popular thought, winter, not spring or summer is the right time to get a pool dug up, as the ground is not soggy. Soft ground is difficult to dig and is not easy on heavy equipment as well.

Sides caving in:

The sides of the hollow dug must be sloping so that the sides do not cave in. The ideal ratio should be a 1-foot vertical drop for every 3 horizontal feet. Steel enforcements may also be used to keep the pool in shape.

Algae in the pool:

Algae can be very harmful to a swimming pool, and requires chemical treatment and a lot of filtering, backwashing, scrubbing, and skimming. Whatever kind of algae it is, quick treatment is essential, as algae is quick to take over the pool.

Kids safety:

Kids are sometimes unpredictable, so a cover on the pool or a fence around it will help to keep the pool area safe.

Winter:

If the swimming pool is outdoors and the winters are harsh, it is a good idea to put antifreeze in the key areas after draining the water and putting a cover over the pool.

A swimming pool is an ideal feature for your home; just remember a good pool requires extensive preparations, and once these are done, maintenance is very important. <bio>Stefan Rockhaus is a contributing author for http://www.your-online-guide.info For more info visit http://www.supreme-swimming-pools.info and http://www.supreme-swimming-pools.info/sitemap.php </bio>

If you're like me, and 40 million other Americans, you've tried all the fad diets without success. You've tried upping your vegetable intake, dropping the carbs, starving with meal replacements, and working out until you drop. A low-sodium diet is almost universally recommended by fad programs and nutritionists alike for fast weight loss. What you may not know is that you're probably getting too much salt anyway, no matter how carefully you read the labels.

Before you answer the question of how much sodium you're really getting, you need to answer the question of how much you should be getting to lose weight. Though there are standardized guidelines, each person requires a different amount of salt in their diet (and yes, you do need salt. It maintains blood volume and pressure). Most adults require a minimum of 500 milligrams (mg) of sodium per day. A low-sodium diet can harm you if you are an athlete, or if you work outside, since you lose sodium through sweat.

For a low-sodium diet, most health organizations recommend that you stay under 2,400 mg per day if you're in otherwise good shape. However, I've found that you need to cut back your sodium intake even more, so you're closer to the minimum requirements of 500 mg. You have to know how much salt is in the food you're eating, because your daily sodium intake doesn't just come from the salt shaker. The majority of Americans eat too much salt.

Food labels can be misleading. In addition to "salt", watch for the following ingredients and/or warnings on your food:

• Sodium anything: this can encompass sodium nitrate, benzoate, phosphate, casienate, and saccharine.

• Monosodium glutamate, which not only contains salt, but is hazardous to your health in other ways.

• Low sodium: This designation is reserved for food items that contain less than 140 mg of sodium per serving.

• Reduced sodium: This means a food item's sodium content has been reduced 75 percent, as compared to "regular" items of the same type.

Another problem many people have in determining sodium content is the little words "per serving" above the nutrition information box. Always keep in mind, when making sure what you're going to eat doesn't have too much salt, to find out how many servings are in the container.

You can experience fast weight loss and stay healthy with a low-sodium diet, as long as you pay attention to the labels and watch out for hidden salt. In fact, the less sodium you get from your food, the better. Instead, I recommend sea salt tablets in order to maintain the proper sodium level for a healthy, effective diet. (Note: Be sure your vitamins have iodine, since sea salt is iodine-free, and your body needs iodine daily.) <bio>Dr. Donald Fox dropped 70 pounds in five months using the diet plan he developed.
People tend to think that sodium is a negative thing when it comes to nutrition, but the fact is that sodium is one of the necessary minerals in a diet. It is true that too much sodium can cause strokes, kidney disease, high blood pressure and kidney stones among other things but the body still needs one hundred milligrams every day to function. While most people get too much sodium in their diet, the body is capable of eliminating the excess to a degree.

Along with potassium and chloride, sodium can be termed an electrolyte. That is, they control the electrical charges between cells. These electrical charges are the reason we are able to see, eat, touch, smell and taste, they communicate with the nervous system.

About sixty percent of sodium found in the body is in the fluids surrounding the cells. It is a big part of the blood plasma. Ten percent is found in the cells itself, while the rest is stored in the bones.

Sodium helps maintain the flow of the blood to a certain level, it maintains blood pressure. Sodium also keeps the blood from clotting and along with potassium monitors the blood's ph balance.

Sodium also works in the digestive system, it carries nutrients to the cells, and it contributes to the break down of foods into energy. The stomach lining is protected from acids by the presence of sodium.

Because most of the foods we eat have salt, there should be no need to add any more. There are high levels of sodium found in preserved or processed foods. Things like hot dogs, ham, bacon, tomato sauces, lunch meats and pretzels, potato chips, ketchup and canned soups all have a lot of salt. Others have lower amounts of sodium that are naturally found in the foods such as seafood, fish, carrots, artichokes, eggs, nuts, celery, beets, meat, cauliflower, chicken and milk.

Sodium Deficiency Symptoms

It is extremely rare to have sodium deficiency because most foods have some level of sodium but the body loses a lot of sodium through sweat or urine. If you do a lot of exercise in high temperatures, your body will lose a lot of sodium. You may suffer from sodium deficiency if you are throwing up a lot or have diarrhea. Pills prescribed to lower blood pressure and other diuretics may also reduce the levels of sodium in a body.

The symptoms of sodium deficiency with a loss of water are muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, memory impairment, nausea and the inability to concentrate. If there is no relief, the circulatory system may shut down and the body may end up in shock.

Without sodium, water can pass into the cells and cause the cells to swell up resulting in water intoxication. These symptoms include apathy, muscle twitching, fatigue and anorexia. <bio>Karina Jacobsen is a staff writer at http://nutrition-review.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.alternativehealthadvisor.com. </bio>

Low Sodium Diet is one diet plan that gets the attention of those who are health conscious. It is not only for getting the good shape you wanted for your body but also low sodium diet lower the risk of high-blood pressure and other related illnesses. This had been recommended by The National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (IOM). There had been a released guideline that defines daily sodium intakes. As suggested, people between the ages of 19-50 may only take 1,500 mg sodium/salt, for ages 51-70 1,300 mg and for ages 71+ 1,200 mg. This strictly includes ALL salt or sodium intakes.

That also counts sodium used in cooking and at the table.

Following this diet plan and recommendations made a lot of people who are very cognizant to their health have to look for the right foods and have themselves prepare and cook it in their own kitchen. The big question now is how to find and cook the right foods that are certified in low sodium. This article can provide some of the information that you need to know on sodium or salt content in food in order to be cautious in preparing and serving them to their family. Low sodium foods with 1-150 mg per servings are doughnuts, white and whole bread, cookies, crepes, graham crackers, Melba toast, shredded wheat cereals, cakes, together with granola, puffed rice, puffed wheat, spaghetti, noodles, rice and macaroni pasta.

Condiments like butter, herbs, margarine, oil, Horseradish, sugar, mustard, syrup, Tabasco, vinegar and spices are still in the same bracket of specified low sodium contents. Dairy Products like cheeses amongst are cream, Monterey, Mozzarella, Ricotta are little salt nature. All untreated animal protein have natural sodium content. Many individuals also do not have the luxury of time to cook. They preferred packed foods that are cooked already and ready to go. These Prepared foods that have Low sodium food labels has the following sodium information: Salt free means less than 5 milligrams sodium per serving. Sodium free has Less than 5 milligrams sodium per serving. No Salt added may mean No salt added during processing but does not guarantee as sodium free. Very Low Sodium has 35 milligrams or less sodium per serving. Low Sodium labels may have 140 milligrams or less per serving. The list could go on and on but the bottom line here is to examine the Nutrition Facts Label to evaluate the quantity of sodium in every package and be very conscious of the sodium or salt intake.

Always choose foods that have lower values. It is also important that before you take the packed food or processed food, you need to compare the amounts you will eat to the serving size given. The figure may look low but the amount you eat will double or triple the sodium consumed as per guidelines. Becoming conscious of what you eat keeps you fit. I wish you the best of luck down the road to losing weight.
A low-sodium diet is recommended for weight loss and general health. It prevents bloat from water retention and guards against many diseases. Choose fresh unprocessed food and use natural herbs, spices and other salt-free seasonings to enhance flavor.

One of the more effective ways to lose weight is to go on a low-sodium diet. This is because high sodium makes your body retain water, resulting in bloat and added pounds and inches. High sodium also increases your risk for hypertension and diseases of the heart, liver and kidney. On the other hand, a low-sodium diet not only eliminates all these but also makes food less tempting and protects you from over-indulging.

What is sodium and where is it found?

The mineral sodium occurs naturally in meat, fish, poultry, eggs, milk and cheese. It is also found in high amounts in salt, monosodium glutamate and many other seasonings. Processed food and fastfood are usually high in sodium. Even soda, as in soft drinks and baking soda, contains sodium.

The human body needs only a minimum of 250 milligrams of sodium per day and you should not exceed 2,400 milligrams or a teaspoon of salt a day. Since sodium already occurs in fresh unprocessed food, you ideally need not add salt to anything.

Of course, salt is added to flavor food and enhance its taste. Take note that we are referring to a low sodium diet here, and not a no-sodium diet. You need not totally remove salt from your diet. Just drastically minimize your use of salt and explore other ways to add flavor and taste.

You can perkup your food with natural herbs and spices, including fresh or powdered garlic, onion, ginger and pepper. The juice of lemons and limes and other citrus fruits have also been used for ages, as well as various types of vinegar. You can make up your own combinations or try commercial salt-free seasoning mixes for different types of food.

Sometimes, you cannot really tell from taste alone whether or not certain food contain high sodium. Many canned or frozen food are notorious for this. They may not seem too salty to your tastebuds but can actually make you exceed your daily limit with just a few servings. Always check food labels and opt for those with 140 milligrams of sodium or less per serving. Remember that you will be eating several meals a day and it adds up.

At home you can easily have control over how you prepare your food, but what happens when you eat out? Some restaurants will accommodate requests for special diets as long as you ask nicely when you order. Take note of such restaurants. They deserve your patronage and your body deserves the care.

For general health and well-being, the low-sodium diet is recommended. It will not only make you feel better, it will also make you look better with no undesirable side effects, except maybe having to spend for a wardrobe in smaller sizes.<bio>John Grant is a the author for a diet fads site where he is writing articles about low sodium diets.</bio>

Did you know that the average American consumes between 4,000 and 5,000 mg of sodium (or salt) a day. That is close to double the recommended amount we should be consuming. So, how can we start eating less salt in our daily diet, without sacrificing flavor?

Before we get into the specifics of why it is a bad idea to eat that much salt, let's take a look at why we should worry about it in the first place. Consuming too much salt can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, edema and kidney stones. Your body also needs more potassium to be able to deal with the excess salt.

Let's take a look how you can start reducing the amount of salt you consume in your food on a regular basis.

- Don't use salt when you are cooking (or just use a tiny amount). Add just a pinch when the food is on the table.

- Use no-sodium seasonings as well as herbs and spices to add lots of flavor without the salt.

- Buy low-sodium chicken broth and use it to cook with instead of the regular broth that's full of salt.

- Soy sauce has a lot of salt in it. Opt for a low-sodium version instead.

- Use fresh meats and produce when you cook. Fresh food has a lot more flavor and won't need as much salt.

- Don't salt your pasta or rice water.

- Buy low or no-sodium versions of food.

- Cut down on fast food and salty snacks. Grab some fresh fruit or veggies instead.

- Read the label. Pay attention to the amount of sodium that's included on the nutritional facts label. You'll be surprised how much sodium a can of condensed soup or even a slice of bread has.

- Rinse canned fish and vegetables to remove some of the salt.

By implementing just a few of these ideas, you can reduce your sodium intake by quite a bit. At the same time, make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water to help your body remove any excess salt that is in your system.

Using less salt may be a little tough on your taste buds for a while. We are so used to overly salty food, reducing salt makes foods less appealing in the beginning. But don't worry, your taste buds will adjust and you will be able to enjoy all the true flavors of the foods you are eating. <bio>Susanne Myers is the co-publisher of the Healthy Menu Mailer, a weekly recipe and menu mailer that's all about eating healthy.
Hypertension is persistent high blood pressure. It affects nearly one quarter of American adults and more than half of people over 65. Most cases are essential hypertension, in which the cause is unknown.

Left untreated, the excessive pressure of blood on the arteries eventually scars and narrows them, reducing their elasticity. This is increase the likelihood of atherosclerosis, because fatty plaque accumulates where arteries are damaged. The heart force to work much harder pumping blood through the narrowed arteries, becomes enlarged and inefficient. Eventually the heart is unable to supply enough nutrients and oxygen to organ and tissues. The kidneys, the brain, and the heart are especially vulnerable to the damaging effects of high blood pressure.

There is a genetic predisposition to essential hypertension. For example, African Americans are more likely to develop hypertension and at an earlier age than Caucasians. If both parents have high blood pressure, then the probability their children also will have it rises dramatically.

But does diet also play a role? Could changing our diets prevent or delay high blood pressure? And for people who have hypertension, can changing their diet help control their blood pressure?

Excessive sodium can hold excessive fluid in body, at least temporarily. These excesses can be burdensome on the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels. The consensus among heart disease expert is that too much sodium, ingested routinely over the years, plays a role in the underlying causes of hypertension in genetically predisposed or "salt-sensitive" people. The more salt they eat, the higher their blood pressure.

Hypertension is a risk factor for atherosclerosis, kidney disease, and stroke. Excess sodium intake raises blood pressure in those who are salt-sensitive. Inadequate levels of potassium, calcium, and possibly magnesium may also contribute to hypertension. Limiting sodium intake, along with eating lots of low-sodium vegetables, fruits, and low-fat daily products, will probably help reduce hypertension and its side effects. <bio>http://www.thehypertension.com </bio>

Have you ever taken the time read the nutrition section on the Noodles packs? Did you ever realize that there was so much sodium in noodles! It can range anywhere between 800 mg to way over 1000 mg. Keep in mind that our suggested sodium intake should be no more 2,300 mg. For those who suffer from high blood pressure and hypertension, the sodium intake should not go over 1,500 mg.

On average, we Americans eat 3,300 mg of sodium a day because salt is in everything we eat: bread, cheese, fast food, soup, and even cereal. No more than 10% of salt comes from the salt shaker, and only 10% of salt comes naturally in foods. That means that the other 80% is just from processing.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has decided to approach the government as well as the food industry to reduce levels of salt in processed food -- which is pretty much any packaged food. The American Medical Association recommended that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should limit the amount of salt allowed in food. Also, the AMA asked the FDA to remove the status of salt as a substance that is considered to be safe and deem salt as a food additive. If the FDA were to listen to the AMA, they would have to quickly find a replacement for the additive and flavor enhancer.

The FDA has never solicited commentary but the organization has mentioned that they are open for a hearing on the health issues of high sodium intake. There have also been discussions between the Salt Institute (didn't think there was such a thing, did you?) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Salt Institute has pushed for the DHHS to finance a comprehensive study about the health effects of salt. But here is no word as to whether that study will be conducted or not. Funding is really an overall deciding factor. The Center for Food and Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) has had their budget cut from 47.6 million to 25 million in four years. And the CFSAN is an organization where most food regulations take place.

Many thousands of Americans die each year because of gradual health effects that were caused by high sodium diets. The FDA also says that they have paid attention to the sodium issue by placing sodium on the nutritional value label and by defining low salt products. So some are a bit weary of believing that the FDA is interested in a hearing, especially since the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has mention a sodium problem in processed food more than 23 years ago.

In addition to the AMA, other groups like the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (NASIM) and the governments National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) have know for at least 20 years that a high salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, hypertension, and contributes to heart disease (the No.1 cause of death in America) and stroke (the No. 3 cause of death America). The NHLBI conducted a study in 2004 that concluded that 150,000 lives could be saved on a yearly basis if sodium levels were decreased by half. <bio>http://www.CarlHampton.com http://www.fcdtcm.com </bio>

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and SLES or Sodium Laureth Sulfate were proven to cause irritations on hair and skin. Prolonged use may mean more susceptibility to adverse effects. Yet, no studies ever prove that they are carcinogenic. Johnson's Baby shampoo is one trusted brand that makes use of SLES and their shampoo has milder, safer version.

Recently, a lot of health conscious consumers, particularly parents have become so concerned with ingredients in shampoos that may possibly harm their little ones. One of the ingredients that has been the subject of distress of many is known as the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Is the chemical really hazardous? Or is it just having its own share of erroneous information?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate indeed is a chemical component commonly mixed in many of the personal care products such as shampoos, bath soaps, shower baths, and gels. The SLS is also a typical ingredient of household cleaning agents like dish washing liquids and detergent soaps. Its variation and sister chemical, SLES or Sodium Laureth Sulfate generally is applied in many skin and health care essentials such as baby shampoos.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) assessed the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. CIR is a group specialized in comprehensive, impartial evaluation and analysis of safety of the components and ingredients of commercial products. The organization formed a team consisting of seven experts to complete the SLS reviews. The team has experts in various fields including toxicology, pharmacology, dermatology, and chemistry. The CIR discovered SLS to be safe, although it will have to perform more assessments and tests for absolute resolution on the chemical's safety.

According to the team's review, Sodium Laureth Sulfate as well as SLS can virtually take away natural oil and dirt from human skin and hair. This is mainly because these two ingredients deliver high emulsification activities. These ingredients proved to be the source of skin and eye irritations. It was found out that those irritations were the same as those given off by other cosmetic detergents. Moreover, the gravity of the irritations seems to intensify with the ingredient dilution. These chemicals however, have not induced harmful reactions in any other toxicological experimentation.

Centered on the experts' information, the Sodium Laureth Sulfate certainly is not safe for use in products if it totals greater than 2%. However, many cosmetic and household products today have 10 to 20% of SLS. These ingredients offer fewer possible dangers when products are used for shorter episodes and are washed meticulously from the skin's surface. Yet, if babies use the products everyday, they are more prone to mounting the effect of these ingredients.

The American College of Toxicology almost has the same results as CIR. Allergies and irritations magnify with concentration of SLS. It was known that the probability of irritations is higher when the chemicals reside in the human skin for extended periods. The testing shows that there was extreme transformation of the mice's epidermis to which SLS was put. However, the study does not prove that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate can cause cancer.

Johnson's baby shampoo has been one of the most favorite and trusted brands for babies throughout the decades. Its no more tears formulation is so gentle that it does not irritate the baby's eyes. However, Johnson's baby shampoos along with many of its consumer products contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate. The company makes use of the ingredient because the US Food and Drug Administration approved the application of it in products. Sodium Laureth Sulfate actually is made from coconut oil, which goes through the ethoxylation process. Ingredients then are added to make the shampoos soluble by water. It's so gentle and non-irritant that many ophthalmologists even recommend Johnson's baby shampoo to be adopted as eyelid scrubs or cleansers by patients having eye infections.<bio>For more information on Hair care products please visit our website.</bio>

This is a common question that lacks a simple answer. First of all, no, drinking too much water, per se', cannot kill you.

There is a condition called Water Intoxication wherein a person drinks too much water and does not have a high enough sodium intake to balance with it. The official name for this condition is Hyponatremia. It is more related to a ratio between water and salt and has little to do with the water intake on its own.

Without getting into the technical details of what happens to your cells in Hyponatremia, let's talk about the real life application of this condition. First of all, the condition would occur yes, in situations of too much water.

But think about most people's lifestyles. Most people don't get enough water. If you are drinking bottled or tap water each day and eating a balanced diet, you should be fine. A truly balanced diet will contain a relatively moderate amount of sodium and thus you will not be at high risk for Hyponatremia.

Most people eat a lot of salty foods, which can actually cause other health problems. Chances are if you like a lot of foods that are not good for you, your sodium intake is too high rather than too low. Thus, increasing water intake will be good for you in those cases.

If you don't drink water often enough and decide to go on a water binge, just make sure that you balance your water intake with regular food and juice intake. The age-old adage of "all things in moderation" probably needs to be thrown into the mix here.

However, you should not base any critical health choices exclusively on what you read online or elsewhere. There is only one person that knows your body as well or better than you do, and that is your physician.

If you are concerned about your water and sodium balance the absolute best thing you can do for your health and well-being is consulting your doctor. Your doctor can run tests to determine what your status is in terms of the intake of both water and sodium.

Once the doctor determines if there is a dangerous imbalance, you will be instructed to make appropriate diet and/or lifestyle adjustments to compensate for any deficiency.

Another issue that should be mentioned here is that so many people use the "too much water can kill you" argument to justify not drinking water daily; they are not fooling anyone. You need to be drinking water every day. Your body needs it; this should be common sense and yet there are many who ignore this wisdom.

Are you drinking enough water each day? Our bodies are made of about 75% water. So it stands to reason you need to keep drinking a lot of it. Our brain is also known to comprise 85% water and only 15% solid tissue. Ask your doctor how much water you should drink per day based on your particular body weight. There are also online calculators that will help. <bio>Please visit http://ibdinsurance.com/blog/healthy-living/how-fat-can-impact-more-than-ju= st-looks and http://ibdinsurance.com/blog/announcements/january-is-national-cervical-hea= lth-awareness-month </bio>

Three Roof Cleaning Methods: Stained by algae or not, roofs are cleaned using any of three common methods, each of which has its own set of pros and cons. These methods are, pressure washing, and the application of solutions containing either, chlorine bleach or sodium hydroxide. When performed correctly and only once, these techniques clean roofs effectively without significant adverse effects. The problem is, they usually have to be repeated every six to 18 months to maintain cleanliness.

Chlorine Solution Washes: Chlorine bleach solution application requires a lot less rinsing than the two other methods, thereby allowing a cleaning procedure of shorter duration. One good consequence of a quicker process is less wear and tear for the roof. However, chlorine can be toxic to some people and plants, so care should be exercised to protect employees or residents, as well as the property itself, from spray runoffs. Asphalt shingle roofs are particularly well adapted to this type of cleaning.

Sodium Hydroxide-based Cleaning: Sodium hydroxide-based cleaners are very effective degreasers, but they require a lot more rinsing than chlorine solutions. As a result, using this type of cleaning agent can be time-consuming and carries with it greater risk for causing damage to the roof. And, while only 100 psi of force is needed to rinse away a sodium hydroxide-based compound on an asphalt shingle roof, some amount of asphalt granule loss is to be expected still. Even if advertisements would have us believe otherwise, sodium hydroxide can be toxic too, and should be kept from coming into contact with persons and property, and especially plants in the surrounding landscape. It is also caustic, so high levels of this compound may cause irreversible damage to roofs, especially those made of asphalt shingles.

Pressure Washing: Pressure washing is an option only for roofs made either of concrete, metal or barrel tiles. One of the distinct advantages of this method is that it does not require the use of chemicals, which does away with some costs, and which makes it more environment-friendly. This procedure, however, requires more time to perform and may exert more strain than some roofs can handle. Another downside is that it can wash away the thin layer of coloring with which some roof tiles are coated. The natural gray color of the concrete roof begins to show through, requiring the additional task of painting or staining. <bio>http://www.pressurewashingking.com </bio>

Soap nuts are natural soaps that grow on trees. These are the fruits of the tree called Sapindus. They do not contain any harmful chemicals and dyes or any other artificial fragrance. Sapindus grow in warm tropical regions and are native trees of India, Indonesia, Nepal and other South East Asian countries. They are easy to use and can be trusted for long term safety from any adverse chemical reactions on the body and nature.

A comparative study of the two can give a clear picture of what soap nuts can offer you in terms of a natural detergent. To begin with we can discuss the harmful effects of the chemical detergents.

CHEMICAL DETERGENTS: These laundry detergents and chemical soaps are made up of chemicals and toxins that may have some long term affects. These effects are listed below:

• The chemicals, dyes and artificial detergents which are used in the laundry detergents are harmful and used for cleaning clothes, these chemicals and dyes stay back within the pores of the fabric even after cleansing. When these clothes are worn, these chemicals come in contact with the body skin and enter into our blood and causes adverse reactions which are harmful to human body. When these toxins are exposed to sunlight, they release vapors giving us an unhealthy air to breath.

• The laundry detergents contain enzymes which are known to cause allergies and dermatitis.

• Sodium hypochlorite presents in the detergents cause lung irritation, respiratory reactions, and cardiovascular damage and damage your eye and skin.

• Nonylphenoxy Ethoxylates present in the detergents are responsible for increase in breast and prostate cancer. This particular chemical can also cause infertility and is a key ingredient in declining amphibian population.

• The chemicals in the detergent can cause premature wear and tear of the clothes.

When compared to these drawbacks of the laundry detergents, the soap nuts are actually blessings in disguise.

SOAP NUTS: The soap nuts are natural and do not contain any harmful chemicals or toxins. They have a natural chemical called Saponin. The Saponin present in high concentration (nearly 10-18%) acts as a natural detergents when comes in contact with water.

• These are 100% organic and bio-degradable.

• They have a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal action which destroys the harmful micro organisms.

• Due to the anti-microbial property, soap nuts are used for bathing and keep the skin smooth and germs free.

• The soap nuts do not cause any allergic affect on the skin because of the absence of enzymes and contains hypo allergic elements which prevent allergy.

• The detergent which goes out as end and waste has the antimicrobial properties which causes cleaning of the drainage and sewer system and thus becomes eco-friendly.

• This anti-microbial and hypo-allergic property of the soap nuts is good for people suffering from eczema and any other skin infection.

• They don't damage the linen fibers and protects color.

• Last but not the least they are re-usable.

Thus, when it comes to create a green and natural world, when it comes to the economical aspect, laundry detergents and the soaps are nowhere to stand in comparison to soap nuts.
We all want to stay fit throughout our lives but many a time the wish is not granted. And when one finds that one is suffering from high blood pressure, it could come as a shock because not many who are apparently healthy even think that they could be suffering from any disease at all.

High blood pressure is condition that can be a result of a number of factors. Smoking, high stress, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption are few of them. Besides these factors, our daily diet plays a vital role not only in contributing to high blood pressure but also in effecting the overall health.

It is always advisable for the patient of high blood pressure to reduce the intake of foods rich in sodium and salt, as they are found to be a major contributing factor to high blood pressure. No doubt that with the reduction of the quantity of salt in your daily diet you can lower sodium content to some extent but the best way to avoid sodium is to have a diet of whole foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition to the above, even with the lowering down of the consumption of canned and frozen foods you can limit the intake of sodium.

The quantity of water should be increased to eight glasses per day. This would make your diet healthy. Start having grilled lean meats rather than fried variety of foods. A reduction in the consumption of white flour and sugar also helps.

After reading the above said dietary needs, you may feel that the high blood patient will have to bid adieu to his favorite foods forever. But it is not so. The intake of recommended foods helps you lead a healthier life and you may still enjoy your 'favorite' food once in a while.

Keep your visits to your physician regular because that would keep your condition well monitored. This would help you a great deal in keeping your high blood pressure within acceptable limits and below danger levels.

It is a fact that there is no cure for high blood pressure, but one can still keep it under control with the help of proper diet, medication and exercise. <bio>To get more information visit http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Low-Blood-Pressure.htm, http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Blood-Pressure-Diet.htm and http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/High-Blood-Pressure.htm </bio>

If your nurse or doctor measures your blood pressure at 140/90 then you suffer from hypertension. Many adults and even some children have high blood pressure. It is very important to get proper treatment to control your high blood pressure. Diet for high blood pressure patients has to be healthy since along with medications and exercises a balanced diet can equally help in keeping your blood pressure under control.

Following a diet for high blood pressure also reduces or prevents clogged arteries, increases in cholesterol, cancer and also reduces weight. The ideal diet for high blood pressure patients should include low fat or fat free products and should definitely exclude animal fats, red meat, sugary products, and sweets. Surveys show that high potassium and low sodium content in fruits and vegetables help in regulating the blood pressure level.

The diet for high blood pressure is best when it doesn't contain high amount of salt or sodium. Many people might think salt-less food might be flavorless. To add flavor to the diet for high blood pressure you can add spices to the food instead of salt.

There are certain tips for your diet for high blood pressure that you can follow such as, rinse canned food in order to rinse off sodium. Instead, buy frozen salt free vegetables, which don't contain much salt or sodium and restrict your intake of cured meat, ham bacon, pickles, olives, mustard, ketchup, and Soy sauce in your diet for high blood pressure.

It is obvious that diet affects blood pressure level. Therefore, it is very important that you maintain a proper, healthy, and balanced diet for high blood pressure.

The most important thing that you should avoid in your diet for high blood pressure is salt. Intake of salt for hypertension patients can be harmful as it just accentuates the problem. You can lower your blood pressure to a great extent if you cut down salt consumption in your diet for high blood pressure. You should not have more than 6 grams of salt per day. You must cut down on pizza, frozen diners, canned food, broths, canned soups and salad dressings since these have high sodium content in them. If you are non-vegetarian then make sure you are including fresh poultry, fish, and lean meat in your diet.

In order to avoid salt in your diet you must avoid junk food as well. If there is a mineral imbalance in your diet then it might have an adverse effect on your health condition. Maintaining a healthy diet can work wonders. It can help you to reduce your blood pressure within a period of two weeks.

If you are suffering from high blood pressure you should consult your primary care physician for advice prior to making any changes to your diet. <bio>Paul Johnson.
Ever tried eating your food without salt? Sure, you have. Perhaps, it was one of those days when your cook, or wife, or mom forgot to add a little bit of that white substance in your food. What happened then? You possibly called out aloud to be rescued from the tastelessness, and the salt was presented to you immediately. Such is the importance of salt. In short, salt is taste.

Most of us look at is as an indispensable part of food and something that sits in an elegant little bottle on every dinner table in the world. Well, it certainly is that, but it has a lot more to it. It is not just a tastemaker but is a chemical compound essential for proper functioning of our bodies.

However, though we need salt in adequate amount, the excess of it is bad. The daily requirement of sodium for an adult male is as little as 250 mg, while a male in any of the western countries consumes as much as 3,300 mg of it per day. Therefore, salt, which is undoubtedly a life sustaining chemical, is made into a life threatening one by its excessive intake.

High intake of salt results in high blood pressure, which also means that a good way to fight high blood pressure is to reduce one's salt intake. To put it simply and without using medical jargon, excessive salt hardens the arteries and also causes excessive blood clotting. Besides, excessive salt intake also encourages the body to make additional hydrochloric acid, which, in turn, leads to the erosion of stomach lining and may give rise to stomach ulcers.

Sodium is important for the function of our bodies. It not only helps us to maintain PH balance in our bodies but also assists the functioning of our nervous system to quite a considerable extent. It also helps food absorption in our intestines.

Sodium also gives the muscles the ability to contract, which means that without it we would be unable to move. Sodium, therefore, is not just something that makes our food tastier but makes us stay alive and work well. However, too much of it can also take one's life. Therefore, keep the salt content in your food as less as possible and live a life without high blood pressure. <bio>To get more information visit http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/High-Blood-Pressure.htm http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Low-Blood-Pressure.htm and http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Blood-Pressure-Diet.htm </bio>

Retaining excess water can make you feel bloated. It can also make your wrists, ankles, hands and feet swell and your face look puffy. Sure, you have probably learned that the best way to lose water weight is actually to drink more water. This is absolutely true. In fact, water weight is usually a sign that your body is "scared" to lose any more water and as a countermeasure is retaining it like a camel. The thing is, you are not a camel!

Here are 5 tips for fine-tuning your water weight loss plan:

Tip #1: Get a 32 oz. or 64 oz. refillable container: You can find these little babies for very cheap at almost any discount or sporting goods store and they come in all kinds of cool designs. Buy them not for their cool designs, however, but rather for their amazing capacity: you can really put a lot of water into these things. And, unlike a conventional cup, their portable design encourages you to carry them wherever you go. If you drink just 1 - 2 of these mega-containers' worth of water each day, your body will start shedding the excess water that it has been holding onto for dear life for so long.

Tip #2: Add a little lemon or lime: To your mega-container, add a squeeze or two of lemon or lime. These citrus fruits act as natural diuretics, and their refreshing taste makes the water go down that much easier.

Tip #3: Eat lower sodium foods: Sodium and water weight go hand-in-hand. When you drink more water, your body is freed to release some of its sodium stores. Conversely, when you switch to a lower sodium diet, your body will tend to store less excess water. Bonus tip: cutting down on diet sodas will cut your sodium intake significantly.

Tip #4: Try a natural diuretic: Diuretics help your body flush water weight. But prescription diuretics can be rather harsh on your system and often cause intense diarrhea. Try a natural diuretic such as an herbal-based one for a gentler, healthier experience of forcing that excess water out of your body.

Tip #5: Sprinkle in some exercise: Yes, that weight loss panacea, exercise, comes in handy for helping you to lose water weight, too. The type of exercise that helps you lose weight is aerobic exercise: the kind that gets your heart moving at a steady, faster rate and burns the calories as you work out. However, anaerobic exercise - or weight training =96 is also a great way to lose weight. With weight training, you actually increase your resting metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn calories when you are not moving). Bonus tip: choose exercises that work the areas of your body (e.g., wrists or ankles) that need the most help in losing water.

Drinking more water is the cornerstone to a water weight loss strategy. Adding a bit of citrus to your water, taking natural diuretics, eating a low sodium diet, and doing concentrated exercises can also help you shed that weight. Losing water weight is the first step to looking sexy and feeling great with a comprehensive weight loss plan. <bio>Looking to lose extra pounds fast by eating the right foods?
Finding out that you suffer from high blood pressure can be surprising. For someone who's been in relatively good health up until that point suddenly has the rug pulled out from under them. Confused about the repercussions of such a condition, those newly diagnosed with high blood pressure will often go on a fact-finding mission to determine all the factors that impact blood pressure.

As they will soon find out there are a multitude of factors that contribute to high blood pressure. Genetic predisposition, a smoking habit, high stress, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption can all play a role. But the food we eat can play the most significant role in contributing to high blood pressure. And, consequently, a high blood pressure diet can positively impact blood pressure as well as overall health.

When embarking on a high blood pressure diet, patients will be told to immediately eliminate foods high in sodium. Nothing directly impacts blood pressure more than salt intake. Switching to low sodium foods can be a first step. But the most effective way to eliminate sodium is to eat a high blood pressure diet of whole foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limiting canned and frozen foods will also limit the amount of preservatives (a.k.a. sodium) that you consume.

Choose lean meats that are grilled instead of fried; increase your water intake to include the recommended eight glasses a day; limit white flour and sugar; and make good choices. Eating a high blood pressure diet does not mean that you have to say goodbye to your favorite foods forever. Rather, it's a matter of making healthy choices on a more consistent basis, with specific times set aside to enjoy your less healthy but much beloved favorites.

Always work in tandem with your doctor to establish a safe and healthy high blood pressure diet. Medical guidance at this time will ensure consistent changes and successful lowering of blood pressure.

A high blood pressure diet can work wonders to alleviate hypertension. And while there is no cure for high blood pressure, there are many ways to manage it. A high blood pressure diet -- one that focuses on natural, whole foods -- will go a long way to increasing your health, lowering your blood pressure, and providing you lifelong vitality. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about high blood pressure visit our ezGuide 2 http://highbloodpressure.ezguide2.com </bio>

A water softener is an appliance that is typically used in a residential environment to remove the hardness from the water being used for drinking, bathing, cooking, and washing clothes.

Hard water can cause visible scale to form on water-using appliances such as the dishwasher, washing machine, and iron. Homeowners with hard water and glasswork in their bathrooms are also faced with the prospect of almost daily cleaning. Hard water can also cause scale to form in some hidden places, such as the heating element of your hot water heater. Over time this can drastically reduce the efficiency of this device and cost homeowners money.

While prolonging the life and beauty of appliances is certainly one good reason to purchase a softener, many people with hard water choose a softener for aesthetic reasons. Soft water creates softer skin, shinier hair, and cleaner laundry.

So how does a softener make water soft? To answer this question one has to understand what water hardness is. Hard water is simply water that contains calcium and magnesium compounds. The more calcium and magnesium the water contains, the harder it is. Calcium and magnesium are mainly found in bedrock. When it rains, water percolates through the ground and dissolves some of this rock. This is how calcium and magnesium end up in our water in the first place. Water that comes from wells is typically much harder than water that comes from lakes or rivers. In order to make water soft, the calcium and magnesium containing compounds need to be taken out. This is accomplished by a water softener, sometimes called a water conditioner.

A water softener is usually comprised of two tanks. One tank, called the mineral tank, contains softening resin. The other tank, called the brine tank, contains rock salt mixed with water. As water enters the home through the water main, it is pushed through the mineral tank, containing the resin. Resin looks like very small plastic beads. The resin contained in the mineral tank has an attraction to calcium and magnesium containing compounds. As the water flows past the resin any calcium and magnesium compounds will stick to the resin and will be removed from the water. In this process, the resin releases a sodium ion to the water. Because this trade occurs =96 calcium or magnesium for sodium =96 softener resin is known as ion exchange resin. The removal of the calcium and magnesium makes the water soft.

This process occurs for a few days, the resin exchanging its sodium ions for calcium or magnesium compounds. Eventually each tiny bead of resin becomes completely bound with calcium and magnesium and cannot remove any more from the water. At this point the softener goes through its regeneration cycle. Since regenerating a softener interrupts the flow of water to the home, this cycle is usually set to happen in the middle of the night. Valves inside of the softener controller allow the saltwater liquid from the brine tank to flood the resin tank. The sodium in the brine pushes the calcium and magnesium off the resin. They are then flushed down the drain. Now, all of the resin has been reloaded with sodium and is again ready to trade its sodium for more calcium or magnesium.

Homeowners simply have to make sure that they monitor the salt level in the brine tank and add a bag of salt when it is getting low. The water softener should take care of the rest. <bio>C. Reid Thornley holds a B.Sc. Biology and is a former research associate for a world class water purification manufacturer. Doctors and nutritionists campaign for a regimen of controlled diet and regular exercise to combat the onset of coronary heart conditions.

Nutritionists suggest a heart-friendly diet that contains moderate amounts of complex carbohydrates, small amounts of cholesterol, small amounts of sugar, and little or no sodium. It is recommended that the ratio of fats to complex carbohydrates be shifted to at least 50% of total calories coming from grains and starchy vegetables. These include brown rice, cereals, potatoes, carrots, corn etc. The ratio of saturated to unsaturated fats should also be tipped in favor of unsaturated fats. Decrease the amount of fat in your diet by trimming all visible fat when preparing meat. Do not add any more fat in the cooking process. Stay away from restaurant-bought food - especially those from fast foods, which are often laden with hidden fat and sodium.

A diet low in cholesterol is also recommended. That means avoiding whole milk (sadly, this includes ice cream), cheese and butter. By reducing the amount of cholesterol in the diet, the amount of cholesterol in the system is also reduced and the likeliness of developing coronary heart disease is lessened. Those diagnosed with gallbladder disorders are also advised to go on a diet that is low in cholesterol.

Simple sugars should also be reduced. Excess sugar in the system are not metabolised and are converted into fat stores for the body's energy needs. These fat stores will remain in the body without the right amount of physical exertion to burn it. There are foods that already contain sugar. These naturally occurring sugars are often taken for granted. Excessive sugar added to food and beverages and in sugar-rich food like cakes and pastries may also end up as fat stores.

The amount of sodium should also be controlled in a heart-friendly diet. This could be done by avoiding table salt, chips, snack foods. Fast food offerings are often high in sodium -- that is why that double cheeseburger tastes so good. Condiments may also contain high amounts of sodium and sugar. Stick to the natural flavors of food. Use stocks and aromatics like celery, carrots and herbs to flavor your food.

A basic rule in a heart-friendly diet is to eat more vegetables and fruit. These contain no sodium at all and no cholesterol. Eating meat should be limited to about 6 ounces per day. A diet of fish and lean chicken is recommended. Avoid all processed food, they may contain additives and preservatives that do very little for your body.

Wiping out the chances of developing coronary heart disease is almost an impossibility. But taking preventive measures like going on a heart-friendly diet and living a healthy lifestyle can almost certainly delay its onset.<bio>Peter Johnson is an expert consultant about Cayenne Pepper Diet.
