Three Roof Cleaning Methods: Stained by algae or not, roofs are cleaned using any of three common methods, each of which has its own set of pros and cons. These methods are, pressure washing, and the application of solutions containing either, chlorine bleach or sodium hydroxide. When performed correctly and only once, these techniques clean roofs effectively without significant adverse effects. The problem is, they usually have to be repeated every six to 18 months to maintain cleanliness.

Chlorine Solution Washes: Chlorine bleach solution application requires a lot less rinsing than the two other methods, thereby allowing a cleaning procedure of shorter duration. One good consequence of a quicker process is less wear and tear for the roof. However, chlorine can be toxic to some people and plants, so care should be exercised to protect employees or residents, as well as the property itself, from spray runoffs. Asphalt shingle roofs are particularly well adapted to this type of cleaning.

Sodium Hydroxide-based Cleaning: Sodium hydroxide-based cleaners are very effective degreasers, but they require a lot more rinsing than chlorine solutions. As a result, using this type of cleaning agent can be time-consuming and carries with it greater risk for causing damage to the roof. And, while only 100 psi of force is needed to rinse away a sodium hydroxide-based compound on an asphalt shingle roof, some amount of asphalt granule loss is to be expected still. Even if advertisements would have us believe otherwise, sodium hydroxide can be toxic too, and should be kept from coming into contact with persons and property, and especially plants in the surrounding landscape. It is also caustic, so high levels of this compound may cause irreversible damage to roofs, especially those made of asphalt shingles.

Pressure Washing: Pressure washing is an option only for roofs made either of concrete, metal or barrel tiles. One of the distinct advantages of this method is that it does not require the use of chemicals, which does away with some costs, and which makes it more environment-friendly. This procedure, however, requires more time to perform and may exert more strain than some roofs can handle. Another downside is that it can wash away the thin layer of coloring with which some roof tiles are coated. The natural gray color of the concrete roof begins to show through, requiring the additional task of painting or staining. <bio>http://www.pressurewashingking.com </bio>

Calcium hydroxide is one of the chemical compounds that are not associated in calcium supplement manufacturing because of the presence of acidic properties. It takes the form of either white powder or colorless crystal which is produced when another chemical compound which is the calcium oxide is quenched with water. It can also be produced by the mixture of the aqueous (water-based) solution of sodium hydroxide and the aqueous solution of calcium chloride.

When processed under heat, it decomposes into water and calcium oxide. One of the products, which is the lime water (formed by a suspension of fine particles of calcium hydroxide in water) is considered to be a medium-strength base which reacts viciously with acids as well as assails many metals in the presence of water.

Due to its sturdy basic properties, calcium hydroxide is used on various applications, such as the following:

• When in the form of lime, it is used as a sewage treatment and for the improvement of acid soils.

• It is an active ingredient in the production of plaster, whitewash, and mortar.

• It also acts as an alkaline which is used as a non-lye substitute in lye-free hair relaxers.

• It is also used as a reagent in the following applications:

o For the reef aquarium as a bio-available calcium additive solution for organisms inside the aquarium that uses calcium such as snails, algae, corals, and hard tube worms. o For the tanning industry as a neutralizer on extra acids. o For the petroleum refining application as an ingredient for manufacturing oil additives such as sulphatic and fanatic. o For the chemical application as an ingredient in manufacturing calcium stearate. o For water processing such as alcoholic and soda drinks. o For clearing magnesium and carbonate contents of calcium in manufacturing salt for food.

• It is also used as a filler on the following applications:

o Solid oil manufacturing. o Brake pad manufacturing. o Ebonite production. o Dry mix preparation for decorating and painting. o Pesticide mix manufacturing. o Polikar manufacturing (a drug that is used as a preservative for vegetables and fruits during storage period).

• It is also used in paste which is employed in tooth's root canal procedure which reduces inflammation as well as acting as a disinfectant within the infected area.

However, since it contains acidic properties, calcium hydroxide overdose can lead to dangerous consequences such as breathing difficulties, internal bleeding, hypotension, skeletal muscle paralysis, and an increase in the blood's pH level, which can cause damage to the body's internal organs. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
You may have some horrible experience about problems in your toilet. Some of you really have no idea about how to deal with these problems and how to fix them. It is the fact that most of people rather call for professional service to fix a very little problems, which you never know that even you can fix it by yourself. This article will suggest you about most common problems in toilet and how to fix them properly.

1. Smell

Problems about smell and odor are always with the toilet. You may have experience about bad smell that never disappear, even though you have already clean the toilet, no matter when and how often you clean it, that smell still there without any clue. I can tell you that the smell, which never disappear are generally comes from the waste water drain. Drain is a really good place to store many of bacteria that is the cause of smell. All kind of waste after using toilet will be accumulated in the drain such as stain of soap, fat after shower. The easiest way to fix this problem is to call for professional service to install anti smell equipment in the drain, then clean the toilet often as normal, the smell will disappear after just 1-2 weeks

2. Rust in lavatory.

If you have used a lavatory for a while, you will find that when you open the lavatory , sometimes there is a stain of rust on it. The cause of this problem is the valve that control to let the water come on/off from water tank has broken and it can not stop the water. So the water id leaking from the tank and make rust stain on the lavatory.

You can get rid of this stain by using a piece of small metal or sand paper to softly scrape the lavatory, and then clean it normally. Do not forget to replace the water control valve too. 3. Bath tub clog up

For some of you who ay have problem about bath tub clog up very often. This maybe due to your hair that fall in to the tub drain after washing you hair. It is possible to use sodium hydroxide to clean but you have to be very careful because sodium hydroxide will destroy the bath tub coating and surface

4. Leaks

Leaks may be the most common problem in bath room but they are also the most difficult to fix. When you find any cracks or leaks in the toilet, you have to fix it immediately and do not let it be until it worse because it will be larger and let insects com into your house and absorb humidity. You must immediately seal the cracks or leaks but be sure that you can only fix by yourself only small leaks, otherwise, I would recommend to call for professional service.

5. Ventilation

If you notice that there are a lot of water drop on the ceiling, you can assume that your toilet is having a problem about ventilation. The water drop will make the ceiling coat erode, so you should install a ventilator to help. <bio>http://www.toilet-seat-hardware.com/ http://www.unique-shower-curtains.com/ </bio>

First things first: the information contained below on making biodiesel is not meant to provide you with a complete and thorough enough education on the subject for you to go out and make your own biodiesel without any further study. It is imperative that you recognize from the outset that making biodiesel involves chemicals and chemical reactions which can be quite dangerous if dealt with improperly.

With that in mind, please consider the following to be a general introduction to the process of making biodiesel, with the implicit agreement that if you decide to make your own biodiesel, you do a bit more research on the subject before beginning.

That said, we start with your ingredients, divided into the stages of the process of making biodiesel in which you will need them:

Mixture

• Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) -- used cooking oil, lard, animal fat, fryer grease; • Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) -- that's lye or caustic soda, dry only; • Methanol (CH3OH) -- at least 99% pure;

Titration

• Isopropyl/Rubbing Alcohol -- again, at least 99% pure; • Phenolphthalein Solution -- kept out of the sunlight and no more than 1 year old; • Distilled Water;

Washing

• Water • Vinegar

Here is a brief rundown of the process of transterification, also known as making biodiesel:

1. Filter WVO;

Warm it up to about 95 F or until it runs freely. Then run it through a canteen- or restaurant-type coffee filter or a double layer of cheesecloth set into a funnel. This removes any food scraps and other solids.

2. Remove water;

This is an optional, but highly advisable, step in making biodiesel. Leaving in the water in your WVO can slow down the chemical reaction and cause the formation of soap. Heat your WVO to 212 F (100 C) and let the water boil off. As the boiling begins to slow, raise the temperature up to 265 F (130 C) and let it stay there for 10 more minutes. Then remove it from the heat, and set it aside to cool.

3. Titration (revealing how much catalyst will be needed);

This is an integral step in making biodiesel as it will tell you how much sodium hydroxide (lye or caustic soda) you'll need to use. It is this step alone that is the most critical and complicated part of making biodiesel, so do not begin until you feel confident that you understand titration completely.

In summary, you'll make a solution out of 1 g completely dry lye thoroughly dissolved in 1 l distilled water. Being vigilant that this sample remains uncontaminated, place it in a reaction vessel where it can be warmed and stirred.

Meanwhile mix in a separate container 10 ml rubbing alcohol and 1 ml of your filtered, heated, and cooled WVO. Add 2 drops phenolphthalein (a pH tester indicating the acidity or alkalinity of a given substance).

Now's where making biodiesel gets really delicate. You'll next add a single drop at a time of this mixture into your mixed and heated titration sample, keeping careful count of each and every drop. You're looking for the combination that gives you a pH of 8-9 (a light purple color).

A mathematical equation comes next, in a nutshell:

•# of ml titration derives X # of liters of WVO being transterified + 3.5 g lye for every liter of fresh (unused) vegetable oil to be used

Then, once you've determined the ratio, do the titration again to confirm your results. Remember, measure twice and get the mix right the first time.

4. Prepare Sodium Methoxide;

Mix an amount of methanol equal to about 15-20% of the weight of your WVO with sodium hydroxide (lye) to make sodium methoxide. If the previous step was the most complicated and intricate, this step is the most dangerous. Avoid inhaling any vapors and protect your skin, which this chemical can burn.

Also be careful what type of container you use to hold your sodium methoxide mixture as it can corrode paints, while lye reacts poorly with tin, zinc, and aluminum. For the purposes of making biodiesel, stick with glass, stainless steel, or enamel.

5. Heat WVO again, stirring in Sodium Methoxide;

Heat WVO to 120-130 F and mix in Sodium Methoxide stirring (preferably with a machine like a paint stirrer) for the better part of an hour.

6. Let the biodiesel mixture settle (removing the glycerine);

Making biodiesel properly requires that you let it sit and cool for no less 8 hours. Your mixture will separate into 2 layers:

• your esters (biodiesel) • soap (waste)

7. Wash and dry biodiesel;

Removing the soap waste.

8. Check the quality of your biodiesel;

See our companion article to on "How to Test the Quality of Biodiesel" at http://biodiesel.biogreenlife.com/20/how-to-test-the-quality-of-biodiesel/.

Once you make your own biodiesel for the first time, you will surely discover how rewarding an experience it can be. And once you start using the biodiesel you make, you'll find it even more so. Making biodiesel can liberate you from oil dependency and rising gas costs. Just remember to learn more about the process than the summary information contained in this article before you get started making biodiesel for the first time. <bio>Biodisel is clean, renewable, cheap and becoming popular. The best part is that it's very easy to make it at home.
If you're like me, and 40 million other Americans, you've tried all the fad diets without success. You've tried upping your vegetable intake, dropping the carbs, starving with meal replacements, and working out until you drop. A low-sodium diet is almost universally recommended by fad programs and nutritionists alike for fast weight loss. What you may not know is that you're probably getting too much salt anyway, no matter how carefully you read the labels.

Before you answer the question of how much sodium you're really getting, you need to answer the question of how much you should be getting to lose weight. Though there are standardized guidelines, each person requires a different amount of salt in their diet (and yes, you do need salt. It maintains blood volume and pressure). Most adults require a minimum of 500 milligrams (mg) of sodium per day. A low-sodium diet can harm you if you are an athlete, or if you work outside, since you lose sodium through sweat.

For a low-sodium diet, most health organizations recommend that you stay under 2,400 mg per day if you're in otherwise good shape. However, I've found that you need to cut back your sodium intake even more, so you're closer to the minimum requirements of 500 mg. You have to know how much salt is in the food you're eating, because your daily sodium intake doesn't just come from the salt shaker. The majority of Americans eat too much salt.

Food labels can be misleading. In addition to "salt", watch for the following ingredients and/or warnings on your food:

• Sodium anything: this can encompass sodium nitrate, benzoate, phosphate, casienate, and saccharine.

• Monosodium glutamate, which not only contains salt, but is hazardous to your health in other ways.

• Low sodium: This designation is reserved for food items that contain less than 140 mg of sodium per serving.

• Reduced sodium: This means a food item's sodium content has been reduced 75 percent, as compared to "regular" items of the same type.

Another problem many people have in determining sodium content is the little words "per serving" above the nutrition information box. Always keep in mind, when making sure what you're going to eat doesn't have too much salt, to find out how many servings are in the container.

You can experience fast weight loss and stay healthy with a low-sodium diet, as long as you pay attention to the labels and watch out for hidden salt. In fact, the less sodium you get from your food, the better. Instead, I recommend sea salt tablets in order to maintain the proper sodium level for a healthy, effective diet. (Note: Be sure your vitamins have iodine, since sea salt is iodine-free, and your body needs iodine daily.) <bio>Dr. Donald Fox dropped 70 pounds in five months using the diet plan he developed.
People tend to think that sodium is a negative thing when it comes to nutrition, but the fact is that sodium is one of the necessary minerals in a diet. It is true that too much sodium can cause strokes, kidney disease, high blood pressure and kidney stones among other things but the body still needs one hundred milligrams every day to function. While most people get too much sodium in their diet, the body is capable of eliminating the excess to a degree.

Along with potassium and chloride, sodium can be termed an electrolyte. That is, they control the electrical charges between cells. These electrical charges are the reason we are able to see, eat, touch, smell and taste, they communicate with the nervous system.

About sixty percent of sodium found in the body is in the fluids surrounding the cells. It is a big part of the blood plasma. Ten percent is found in the cells itself, while the rest is stored in the bones.

Sodium helps maintain the flow of the blood to a certain level, it maintains blood pressure. Sodium also keeps the blood from clotting and along with potassium monitors the blood's ph balance.

Sodium also works in the digestive system, it carries nutrients to the cells, and it contributes to the break down of foods into energy. The stomach lining is protected from acids by the presence of sodium.

Because most of the foods we eat have salt, there should be no need to add any more. There are high levels of sodium found in preserved or processed foods. Things like hot dogs, ham, bacon, tomato sauces, lunch meats and pretzels, potato chips, ketchup and canned soups all have a lot of salt. Others have lower amounts of sodium that are naturally found in the foods such as seafood, fish, carrots, artichokes, eggs, nuts, celery, beets, meat, cauliflower, chicken and milk.

Sodium Deficiency Symptoms

It is extremely rare to have sodium deficiency because most foods have some level of sodium but the body loses a lot of sodium through sweat or urine. If you do a lot of exercise in high temperatures, your body will lose a lot of sodium. You may suffer from sodium deficiency if you are throwing up a lot or have diarrhea. Pills prescribed to lower blood pressure and other diuretics may also reduce the levels of sodium in a body.

The symptoms of sodium deficiency with a loss of water are muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, memory impairment, nausea and the inability to concentrate. If there is no relief, the circulatory system may shut down and the body may end up in shock.

Without sodium, water can pass into the cells and cause the cells to swell up resulting in water intoxication. These symptoms include apathy, muscle twitching, fatigue and anorexia. <bio>Karina Jacobsen is a staff writer at http://nutrition-review.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.alternativehealthadvisor.com. </bio>

Low Sodium Diet is one diet plan that gets the attention of those who are health conscious. It is not only for getting the good shape you wanted for your body but also low sodium diet lower the risk of high-blood pressure and other related illnesses. This had been recommended by The National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (IOM). There had been a released guideline that defines daily sodium intakes. As suggested, people between the ages of 19-50 may only take 1,500 mg sodium/salt, for ages 51-70 1,300 mg and for ages 71+ 1,200 mg. This strictly includes ALL salt or sodium intakes.

That also counts sodium used in cooking and at the table.

Following this diet plan and recommendations made a lot of people who are very cognizant to their health have to look for the right foods and have themselves prepare and cook it in their own kitchen. The big question now is how to find and cook the right foods that are certified in low sodium. This article can provide some of the information that you need to know on sodium or salt content in food in order to be cautious in preparing and serving them to their family. Low sodium foods with 1-150 mg per servings are doughnuts, white and whole bread, cookies, crepes, graham crackers, Melba toast, shredded wheat cereals, cakes, together with granola, puffed rice, puffed wheat, spaghetti, noodles, rice and macaroni pasta.

Condiments like butter, herbs, margarine, oil, Horseradish, sugar, mustard, syrup, Tabasco, vinegar and spices are still in the same bracket of specified low sodium contents. Dairy Products like cheeses amongst are cream, Monterey, Mozzarella, Ricotta are little salt nature. All untreated animal protein have natural sodium content. Many individuals also do not have the luxury of time to cook. They preferred packed foods that are cooked already and ready to go. These Prepared foods that have Low sodium food labels has the following sodium information: Salt free means less than 5 milligrams sodium per serving. Sodium free has Less than 5 milligrams sodium per serving. No Salt added may mean No salt added during processing but does not guarantee as sodium free. Very Low Sodium has 35 milligrams or less sodium per serving. Low Sodium labels may have 140 milligrams or less per serving. The list could go on and on but the bottom line here is to examine the Nutrition Facts Label to evaluate the quantity of sodium in every package and be very conscious of the sodium or salt intake.

Always choose foods that have lower values. It is also important that before you take the packed food or processed food, you need to compare the amounts you will eat to the serving size given. The figure may look low but the amount you eat will double or triple the sodium consumed as per guidelines. Becoming conscious of what you eat keeps you fit. I wish you the best of luck down the road to losing weight. It is not easy but with the right dedication and never give up attitude anything is achievable.<bio>Are you tired of all the weight loss scams?
A low-sodium diet is recommended for weight loss and general health. It prevents bloat from water retention and guards against many diseases. Choose fresh unprocessed food and use natural herbs, spices and other salt-free seasonings to enhance flavor.

One of the more effective ways to lose weight is to go on a low-sodium diet. This is because high sodium makes your body retain water, resulting in bloat and added pounds and inches. High sodium also increases your risk for hypertension and diseases of the heart, liver and kidney. On the other hand, a low-sodium diet not only eliminates all these but also makes food less tempting and protects you from over-indulging.

What is sodium and where is it found?

The mineral sodium occurs naturally in meat, fish, poultry, eggs, milk and cheese. It is also found in high amounts in salt, monosodium glutamate and many other seasonings. Processed food and fastfood are usually high in sodium. Even soda, as in soft drinks and baking soda, contains sodium.

The human body needs only a minimum of 250 milligrams of sodium per day and you should not exceed 2,400 milligrams or a teaspoon of salt a day. Since sodium already occurs in fresh unprocessed food, you ideally need not add salt to anything.

Of course, salt is added to flavor food and enhance its taste. Take note that we are referring to a low sodium diet here, and not a no-sodium diet. You need not totally remove salt from your diet. Just drastically minimize your use of salt and explore other ways to add flavor and taste.

You can perkup your food with natural herbs and spices, including fresh or powdered garlic, onion, ginger and pepper. The juice of lemons and limes and other citrus fruits have also been used for ages, as well as various types of vinegar. You can make up your own combinations or try commercial salt-free seasoning mixes for different types of food.

Sometimes, you cannot really tell from taste alone whether or not certain food contain high sodium. Many canned or frozen food are notorious for this. They may not seem too salty to your tastebuds but can actually make you exceed your daily limit with just a few servings. Always check food labels and opt for those with 140 milligrams of sodium or less per serving. Remember that you will be eating several meals a day and it adds up.

At home you can easily have control over how you prepare your food, but what happens when you eat out? Some restaurants will accommodate requests for special diets as long as you ask nicely when you order. Take note of such restaurants. They deserve your patronage and your body deserves the care.

For general health and well-being, the low-sodium diet is recommended. It will not only make you feel better, it will also make you look better with no undesirable side effects, except maybe having to spend for a wardrobe in smaller sizes.<bio>John Grant is a the author for a diet fads site where he is writing articles about low sodium diets.</bio>

Did you know that the average American consumes between 4,000 and 5,000 mg of sodium (or salt) a day. That is close to double the recommended amount we should be consuming. So, how can we start eating less salt in our daily diet, without sacrificing flavor?

Before we get into the specifics of why it is a bad idea to eat that much salt, let's take a look at why we should worry about it in the first place. Consuming too much salt can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, edema and kidney stones. Your body also needs more potassium to be able to deal with the excess salt.

Let's take a look how you can start reducing the amount of salt you consume in your food on a regular basis.

- Don't use salt when you are cooking (or just use a tiny amount). Add just a pinch when the food is on the table.

- Use no-sodium seasonings as well as herbs and spices to add lots of flavor without the salt.

- Buy low-sodium chicken broth and use it to cook with instead of the regular broth that's full of salt.

- Soy sauce has a lot of salt in it. Opt for a low-sodium version instead.

- Use fresh meats and produce when you cook. Fresh food has a lot more flavor and won't need as much salt.

- Don't salt your pasta or rice water.

- Buy low or no-sodium versions of food.

- Cut down on fast food and salty snacks. Grab some fresh fruit or veggies instead.

- Read the label. Pay attention to the amount of sodium that's included on the nutritional facts label. You'll be surprised how much sodium a can of condensed soup or even a slice of bread has.

- Rinse canned fish and vegetables to remove some of the salt.

By implementing just a few of these ideas, you can reduce your sodium intake by quite a bit. At the same time, make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water to help your body remove any excess salt that is in your system.

Using less salt may be a little tough on your taste buds for a while. We are so used to overly salty food, reducing salt makes foods less appealing in the beginning. But don't worry, your taste buds will adjust and you will be able to enjoy all the true flavors of the foods you are eating. <bio>Susanne Myers is the co-publisher of the Healthy Menu Mailer, a weekly recipe and menu mailer that's all about eating healthy.
Whitening the teeth with the use of proper teeth whitening products or teeth whitening kits is both effective and safe. It is because none of the good quality teeth whitening products damage the enamel.

The teeth whitening products or teeth whitening kits containing brush-on gels, whitening sprays and toothpastes contain three percent hydrogen peroxide or ten percent carbamide peroxide that breaks down into oxygen molecules when they are applied in the teeth in the presence of light or heat source. The oxygen molecules enter the tiny pores of the enamel and dentin, and break up the stains that block out the light. More and more stains are broken into smaller pieces, as light passes through the teeth and makes them look lighter. Stains of yellowish to slightly brownish nature are best removed by this teeth whitening kit.

Results are noticed within an hour, overnight or within three to four days that solely depends on the type of bleaching gel used and the length of time it is applied on. The tooth appears lighter and whiter without the change in the structure of the tooth or damage to the enamel. Some gels include sodium hydroxide, carbomer, glycerin, sodium fluoride and flavoring ingredients that keeps the teeth strong and healthy. Perfecta teeth whitening appear after a week or month of application and lasts for at least three years. The lasting however depends greatly on personal habits.

In the professional methods of teeth whitening, the dentist use protective gel and rubber shield while bleaching the teeth. These products efficiently guard the gums, lips and soft tissues of the mouth. The plastic tray used in the Loaded Tray method of Teeth Whitening, efficiently carries the bleaching or whitening gel Carbamide Peroxide to be worn in the gum. One can notice 3 shades of color change after using the product.

Some irritation may occur when the teeth whitening products are used. In such case one should identify the product and stop its use or consult his dentist immediately. <bio>We have made a research to find the best teeth whitening kits.
Is there anything softer and more delicate than your baby's skin?

You should read the ingredients of your baby's skincare products very carefully to avoid certain ingredients that are potentially harmful. This includes shampoos, lotions, bath soaps and creams. Some of these ingredients may even be contained in "natural" products.

Here's a handy list of synthetic ingredients to avoid in baby's products:

* Alcohol: This harsh additive can make body tissues more vulnerable to carcinogens. Special note: Check your mouthwash to make sure it doesn't contain alcohol; if it does, throw it out and purchase a brand that doesn't. This is one of the number one ways that toddlers are poisoned in the household.

* Alpha hydroxyl acid: This removes the skin's protective barrier, which can result in long-term skin damage.

* Animal fat, or tallow: Lye and animal fats and lye are found in many bar soaps, which can be a breed bacteria.

* Collagen: This is an insoluble protein derived from animal skins. The protein is too large to actually penetrate the skin, therefore it forms a filmy layer that can suffocate the skin.

* Diethanolamine, or DEA: This is a crystalline alcohol that is often used as a solvent, emulsifier, emollient and detergent; it is a common ingredient in skin lotions. DEA can irritate the skin and mucous membranes. It also reacts in products that also contain nitrates to form potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines. You should also avoid triethanolamine, TEA, and monoethanolamine, or MEA.

* Elastin of high molecular weight: Like collagen, this is derived from animal sources and can suffocate the skin.

* Glycerin: Unless the air humidity is above 65 percent, glycerin draws moisture from the lower layers of the skin and retains it on the surface; this has the effect of drying skin from the inside out. But glycerin is completely harmless in toothpaste given the mouth's natural moisture.

* Kaolin: This is a fine white clay that is actually used to produce porcelain. It suffocates and weakens the skin.

* Lanolin: This substance is extracted from wool; it is often contained in lotions.

* Lye: Lye is a highly concentrated solution of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. It is often mixed with animal fats to produce bar soap, which can corrode and dry skin.

* Mineral oil: This is a petroleum derivative. It forms an oily film over skin to retain moisture, but traps toxins and wastes; this suffocates normal skin respiration.

* Petrolatum: Like mineral oil, this is also petroleum-based and likewise keeps oxygen out of the skin.

* Propylene glycol: This form of mineral oil is also found in automatic brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, and industrial antifreeze! Would you want to rub those on your baby? Propylene glycol is a strong skin irritant; it can also cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

* Sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS: This is a harsh detergent used in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and auto cleaning products! SLS can prevent your baby's eyes from properly developing. It's also a common skin irritant. It's also rapidly absorbed by the eyes, brain, heart, and liver; it can also slow healing and cause cataracts in adults.

* Sodium laureth sulfate, or SLES: This is an alcohol form of SLS; it is slightly less irritating but more drying. SLS and SLES can react with other ingredients to cause potentially carcinogenic formations of nitrates and dioxins. A large amount of nitrates can enter the blood stream during one shampooing.

* Talc: This soft gray-green mineral can be harmful if inhaled; it is recognized as a potential carcinogen.

Read the labels of all your baby's skin care products carefully so that baby care time is always happy time! <bio>Savvy's Family Editor covers the top baby essentials and baby care news.
Hypertension is persistent high blood pressure. It affects nearly one quarter of American adults and more than half of people over 65. Most cases are essential hypertension, in which the cause is unknown.

Left untreated, the excessive pressure of blood on the arteries eventually scars and narrows them, reducing their elasticity. This is increase the likelihood of atherosclerosis, because fatty plaque accumulates where arteries are damaged. The heart force to work much harder pumping blood through the narrowed arteries, becomes enlarged and inefficient. Eventually the heart is unable to supply enough nutrients and oxygen to organ and tissues. The kidneys, the brain, and the heart are especially vulnerable to the damaging effects of high blood pressure.

There is a genetic predisposition to essential hypertension. For example, African Americans are more likely to develop hypertension and at an earlier age than Caucasians. If both parents have high blood pressure, then the probability their children also will have it rises dramatically.

But does diet also play a role? Could changing our diets prevent or delay high blood pressure? And for people who have hypertension, can changing their diet help control their blood pressure?

Excessive sodium can hold excessive fluid in body, at least temporarily. These excesses can be burdensome on the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels. The consensus among heart disease expert is that too much sodium, ingested routinely over the years, plays a role in the underlying causes of hypertension in genetically predisposed or "salt-sensitive" people. The more salt they eat, the higher their blood pressure.

Hypertension is a risk factor for atherosclerosis, kidney disease, and stroke. Excess sodium intake raises blood pressure in those who are salt-sensitive. Inadequate levels of potassium, calcium, and possibly magnesium may also contribute to hypertension. Limiting sodium intake, along with eating lots of low-sodium vegetables, fruits, and low-fat daily products, will probably help reduce hypertension and its side effects. <bio>http://www.thehypertension.com </bio>

Have you ever taken the time read the nutrition section on the Noodles packs? Did you ever realize that there was so much sodium in noodles! It can range anywhere between 800 mg to way over 1000 mg. Keep in mind that our suggested sodium intake should be no more 2,300 mg. For those who suffer from high blood pressure and hypertension, the sodium intake should not go over 1,500 mg.

On average, we Americans eat 3,300 mg of sodium a day because salt is in everything we eat: bread, cheese, fast food, soup, and even cereal. No more than 10% of salt comes from the salt shaker, and only 10% of salt comes naturally in foods. That means that the other 80% is just from processing.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has decided to approach the government as well as the food industry to reduce levels of salt in processed food -- which is pretty much any packaged food. The American Medical Association recommended that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should limit the amount of salt allowed in food. Also, the AMA asked the FDA to remove the status of salt as a substance that is considered to be safe and deem salt as a food additive. If the FDA were to listen to the AMA, they would have to quickly find a replacement for the additive and flavor enhancer.

The FDA has never solicited commentary but the organization has mentioned that they are open for a hearing on the health issues of high sodium intake. There have also been discussions between the Salt Institute (didn't think there was such a thing, did you?) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Salt Institute has pushed for the DHHS to finance a comprehensive study about the health effects of salt. But here is no word as to whether that study will be conducted or not. Funding is really an overall deciding factor. The Center for Food and Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) has had their budget cut from 47.6 million to 25 million in four years. And the CFSAN is an organization where most food regulations take place.

Many thousands of Americans die each year because of gradual health effects that were caused by high sodium diets. The FDA also says that they have paid attention to the sodium issue by placing sodium on the nutritional value label and by defining low salt products. So some are a bit weary of believing that the FDA is interested in a hearing, especially since the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has mention a sodium problem in processed food more than 23 years ago.

In addition to the AMA, other groups like the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (NASIM) and the governments National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) have know for at least 20 years that a high salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, hypertension, and contributes to heart disease (the No.1 cause of death in America) and stroke (the No. 3 cause of death America). The NHLBI conducted a study in 2004 that concluded that 150,000 lives could be saved on a yearly basis if sodium levels were decreased by half. <bio>http://www.CarlHampton.com http://www.fcdtcm.com </bio>

What a minefield! =85. but let's see what can be done to un-ravel the mystery behind these products.

Oven cleaners can be divided into two main groups, those that work and those that don't!

Generally speaking, the oven cleaners that "do what they say on the package" will contain ingredients that mean you'll need to be very careful when using the product.

You MUST read the instructions first. This is very important indeed.

There are numerous cases every week of damage to both humans and appliances where the instructions have become `destructions' because warnings have not been heeded. Warnings are put onto oven cleaning products for good reason.

A common ingredient found in many `off the shelf' oven cleaners is sodium hydroxide more commonly known as caustic soda. This product is a very high alkaline that can cause a lot of damage if not used in accordance with instructions.

Just a few of the associated problems caused by mis-use of caustic soda based products are,

a) Burns to the skin b) Irritation to eyes c) Damage to nostrils and lungs d) Removal of paint e) Corrosion of certain metals f) Dulling of glass g) Rotting of rubber h) Distortion of elements i) Removal of `self-clean' coatings including `non-stick'.

The list above isn't exhaustive, but just an idea of what can go wrong. That said, caustic soda is a very effective oven cleaner and oven cleaning product particularly in a commercial environment. You may also need to look out for some of the different variations of caustic/corrosive oven cleaners including caustic potash and potassium hydroxide to name just a couple. If the oven cleaner you're looking at has a label for `corrosive' than the chances are it contains caustic in some way, shape or form.

A huge issue with caustic based products is that they often are sold in aerosol sprays and the product is dispensed at speed making accurate `spraying' virtually impossible without `masking' all the potentially hazardous areas before-hand=85 pretty time consuming in the modern world we live in!!

You'll also do well to look out for the so called `professional oven cleaning companies' that claim to be "just a bit caustic"=85 products are either caustic or not=85 bit like `wet'=85 Either it is or it isn't!!

A far `kinder' range of oven cleaners contain `surfactants' to physically break down the grease and fatty substances rather than `burning' them off. Oven cleaning products containing these ingredients will generally be more limited in effect and will take longer to work.

On the plus side however they will be a lot kinder to the environment and safer to dispose of after use. You'll probably have to use a lot of this type of oven cleaner on heavy soiling perhaps even a second or third application in severe circumstances.

The range of oven cleaners and oven cleaning products that claim to be `eco-friendly' is a huge growth market. A couple of these products claim to be `chemical-free' !! This actually means they only contain water=85.anything added is in fact a chemical of some sorts. Various pastes, sprays and gels will have limited effect as their main constituent ingredient is just water. Extremely environmentally friendly but won't necessarily do the job you need doing. In many cases simple washing up liquid would produce a better result!!

As you'll now appreciate the oven cleaning product range is interesting and diverse for many good reasons and logic. As we pointed out from the outset, it's a minefield out there however, exercising due diligence before embarking on the oven cleaning chore, should ensure that both you and your cooking appliances are still in one piece once you've finished the job!!

If in any doubt, contact an oven valeting professional. These guys will know exactly what they're doing and will leave your oven sparkling, hygienic, safe to use and you free to enjoy the finer things in life!! <bio>Rik Hellewell is the Managing Director of Ovenu (http://www.ovenu.co.uk), the specialist oven cleaning business. They have over 100 professional oven valeters operating across Britain. </bio>

How to save gas is the biggest topic today. And gas saving devices are seemingly in every corner of the world. Devices that convert water into fuel incorporate several techniques that help to improve fuel economy. The first and foremost is the Electrolyzer. How does it work, and just how much HHO or Hydroxy can the Electrolyzer produce?

To begin we need to understand how an optimized Electrolyzer works. This typically requires a working knowledge of several disciplines: Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, And Mechanical Engineering. Electrolyzers make hydrogen by passing an electric current through water containing an electrolyte. The Electrolyzer has the potential to lower the cost of producing hydrogen energy through the water electrolysis process. For example, General Electric researchers have built and tested an Electrolyzer big enough to make a kilogram of hydrogen per hour. Within the next five to ten years, Electrolyzers could serve as the foundation for future hydrogen vehicle refueling stations. The key however, is an optimized Electrolyzer, which splits out the hydrogen in a way that doesn't require massive amounts of electrical current.

So then how much HHO can typical water for gas Electrolyzer's produce? It's low. Maybe 1.5 liters. I have discovered however, that it's not the huge amount of HHO, but a clever implementation of the system. The small Hydrogen atoms ram onto the gas particles making them smaller and thus more efficient in the combustion process. Of coarse HHO or Hydroxy itself very flammable and will also aid in improving your fuel economy. But the important thing to consider is the interaction of the HHO and the gasoline mist that is in the combustion chamber. It is like putting a needle to a balloon. It only takes a trigger, not a brutal force, to enhance the performance of gasoline.

Ozzy Freedom a fellow experimenter conducted some experiments and discovered the following: "In my car the one jar with 3 amps was enough to give me over 52 MPG average, which is 72% gain in fuel economy. The six-cell arrangement (6 jars) was taking only 6.6 amps, so it couldn't have been much more HHO than the one (maybe double), and it got me to over 61 MPG, or 107% gain. So I doubled the mileage with a tiny little bit of HHO". "The 6 cell isn't just low amps. It is also very low maintenance - I drove 4 months without touching it, and I could go 6 or more months if I had to".

In my next experiment I'm going to make a High Yield Electrolyzer. This will require rewinding the Electrolyzer tower so that the coils are double density or only about 1/4" or 6 mm apart. I am working with another electrolyte as well, Sodium Hydroxide. This aids in producing more HHO than Baking Soda and is safer for the wires in the Electrolyzer. I will also experiment with Sodium Citrate, which is as safe as baking soda (used in ice cream). My goal is to double or triple my mileage, while at the same time getting the complete Electrolyzer set to draw less than 20 amps.

So really then, any one can achieve good results with very-low-cost homemade items. You just have to do your due diligence and then build it.<bio>The author has created a review site that provides you with the most in-depth analysis of Water Conversion Guides on the Internet. go to: www. water-for-gas-reviews.com or www.squidoo.com/water-for-gas-reviews </bio>

Prolonged use may mean more susceptibility to adverse effects. Yet, no studies ever prove that they are carcinogenic. Johnson's Baby shampoo is one trusted brand that makes use of SLES and their shampoo has milder, safer version.

Recently, a lot of health conscious consumers, particularly parents have become so concerned with ingredients in shampoos that may possibly harm their little ones. One of the ingredients that has been the subject of distress of many is known as the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Is the chemical really hazardous? Or is it just having its own share of erroneous information?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate indeed is a chemical component commonly mixed in many of the personal care products such as shampoos, bath soaps, shower baths, and gels. The SLS is also a typical ingredient of household cleaning agents like dish washing liquids and detergent soaps. Its variation and sister chemical, SLES or Sodium Laureth Sulfate generally is applied in many skin and health care essentials such as baby shampoos.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) assessed the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. CIR is a group specialized in comprehensive, impartial evaluation and analysis of safety of the components and ingredients of commercial products. The organization formed a team consisting of seven experts to complete the SLS reviews. The team has experts in various fields including toxicology, pharmacology, dermatology, and chemistry. The CIR discovered SLS to be safe, although it will have to perform more assessments and tests for absolute resolution on the chemical's safety.

According to the team's review, Sodium Laureth Sulfate as well as SLS can virtually take away natural oil and dirt from human skin and hair. This is mainly because these two ingredients deliver high emulsification activities. These ingredients proved to be the source of skin and eye irritations. It was found out that those irritations were the same as those given off by other cosmetic detergents. Moreover, the gravity of the irritations seems to intensify with the ingredient dilution. These chemicals however, have not induced harmful reactions in any other toxicological experimentation.

Centered on the experts' information, the Sodium Laureth Sulfate certainly is not safe for use in products if it totals greater than 2%. However, many cosmetic and household products today have 10 to 20% of SLS. These ingredients offer fewer possible dangers when products are used for shorter episodes and are washed meticulously from the skin's surface. Yet, if babies use the products everyday, they are more prone to mounting the effect of these ingredients.

The American College of Toxicology almost has the same results as CIR. Allergies and irritations magnify with concentration of SLS. It was known that the probability of irritations is higher when the chemicals reside in the human skin for extended periods. The testing shows that there was extreme transformation of the mice's epidermis to which SLS was put. However, the study does not prove that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate can cause cancer.

Johnson's baby shampoo has been one of the most favorite and trusted brands for babies throughout the decades. Its no more tears formulation is so gentle that it does not irritate the baby's eyes. However, Johnson's baby shampoos along with many of its consumer products contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate. The company makes use of the ingredient because the US Food and Drug Administration approved the application of it in products. Sodium Laureth Sulfate actually is made from coconut oil, which goes through the ethoxylation process. Ingredients then are added to make the shampoos soluble by water. It's so gentle and non-irritant that many ophthalmologists even recommend Johnson's baby shampoo to be adopted as eyelid scrubs or cleansers by patients having eye infections.<bio>For more information on Hair care products please visit our website.</bio>

This is a common question that lacks a simple answer. First of all, no, drinking too much water, per se', cannot kill you.

There is a condition called Water Intoxication wherein a person drinks too much water and does not have a high enough sodium intake to balance with it. The official name for this condition is Hyponatremia. It is more related to a ratio between water and salt and has little to do with the water intake on its own.

Without getting into the technical details of what happens to your cells in Hyponatremia, let's talk about the real life application of this condition. First of all, the condition would occur yes, in situations of too much water.

But think about most people's lifestyles. Most people don't get enough water. If you are drinking bottled or tap water each day and eating a balanced diet, you should be fine. A truly balanced diet will contain a relatively moderate amount of sodium and thus you will not be at high risk for Hyponatremia.

Most people eat a lot of salty foods, which can actually cause other health problems. Chances are if you like a lot of foods that are not good for you, your sodium intake is too high rather than too low. Thus, increasing water intake will be good for you in those cases.

If you don't drink water often enough and decide to go on a water binge, just make sure that you balance your water intake with regular food and juice intake. The age-old adage of "all things in moderation" probably needs to be thrown into the mix here.

However, you should not base any critical health choices exclusively on what you read online or elsewhere. There is only one person that knows your body as well or better than you do, and that is your physician.

If you are concerned about your water and sodium balance the absolute best thing you can do for your health and well-being is consulting your doctor. Your doctor can run tests to determine what your status is in terms of the intake of both water and sodium.

Once the doctor determines if there is a dangerous imbalance, you will be instructed to make appropriate diet and/or lifestyle adjustments to compensate for any deficiency.

Another issue that should be mentioned here is that so many people use the "too much water can kill you" argument to justify not drinking water daily; they are not fooling anyone. You need to be drinking water every day. Your body needs it; this should be common sense and yet there are many who ignore this wisdom.

Are you drinking enough water each day? Our bodies are made of about 75% water. So it stands to reason you need to keep drinking a lot of it. Our brain is also known to comprise 85% water and only 15% solid tissue. Ask your doctor how much water you should drink per day based on your particular body weight. There are also online calculators that will help. <bio>Please visit http://ibdinsurance.com/blog/healthy-living/how-fat-can-impact-more-than-ju= st-looks and http://ibdinsurance.com/blog/announcements/january-is-national-cervical-hea= lth-awareness-month </bio>

Do you have curly hair and wish it were straight? Have you investigated the variety of treatments available? You may want to investigate the positive as well as the negatives to chemical as well as SEDU which involves the use of a tool.

If you choose to use chemicals then the result is that your hair will be permanently straightened. This is an involved process that rearranges the actual structure of your hair. Chemicals such as sodium hydroxide and others are used to actually change the make up of your hair. These chemicals are very potent and can actually damage your hair if not used correctly. Consult a hair professional if you are considering chemical straightening.

The steps that are involved in chemical straightening involve testing your hair. The professional will test a few strands of your hair to see how it reacts to the process.

It is important to protect the scalp as chemical treatments can burn the scalp and cause permanent damage.

The chemicals should be mixed with hot water and then placed on the hair. This is when the actual straightening process takes place.

The process involves special conditioners which relax the scalp.

There are some disadvantages to this process. The process can be expensive if done by a hair care professional. It is also time consuming and regular treatments are needed for upkeep. There is a chance that you may be burned or you may react adversely to the chemicals.

The use of SEDU or a hair straightening tool can be done by anyone. The tool is easy to use and depending on the length of your

hair, if can take approximately 10-15 minutes each morning to straighten your hair. The risk of burning or damage to your hair is much less.

The following recommendations are suggested if using a SEDU:

Always use the tool on clean hair. Make sure you are using conditioners so that your hair is healthy.

It is recommended that you use the tool on partially dry hair. This prevents your hair from drying out. If your hair is a little damp it will make the straightening process easier.

Divide your hair into sections and use the tool on one section at a time. Depending on the length of your hair, this may take anywhere from 10- 15 minutes.

Make sure you brush your hair so that it is not left in divided sections!

The tool is inexpensive and comes with complete instructions. The directions are very easy to follow and the tool can be used at home. The risk is minimal to your hair and scalp.

If you are interested in straightening your hair, consider both options. The most important consideration is healthy hair. Which ever method you choose, make sure that you are protecting the health of your hair. <bio>Developer and Internet Entrepreneur.
We all want to stay fit throughout our lives but many a time the wish is not granted. And when one finds that one is suffering from high blood pressure, it could come as a shock because not many who are apparently healthy even think that they could be suffering from any disease at all.

High blood pressure is condition that can be a result of a number of factors. Smoking, high stress, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption are few of them. Besides these factors, our daily diet plays a vital role not only in contributing to high blood pressure but also in effecting the overall health.

It is always advisable for the patient of high blood pressure to reduce the intake of foods rich in sodium and salt, as they are found to be a major contributing factor to high blood pressure. No doubt that with the reduction of the quantity of salt in your daily diet you can lower sodium content to some extent but the best way to avoid sodium is to have a diet of whole foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition to the above, even with the lowering down of the consumption of canned and frozen foods you can limit the intake of sodium.

The quantity of water should be increased to eight glasses per day. This would make your diet healthy. Start having grilled lean meats rather than fried variety of foods. A reduction in the consumption of white flour and sugar also helps.

After reading the above said dietary needs, you may feel that the high blood patient will have to bid adieu to his favorite foods forever. But it is not so. The intake of recommended foods helps you lead a healthier life and you may still enjoy your 'favorite' food once in a while.

Keep your visits to your physician regular because that would keep your condition well monitored. This would help you a great deal in keeping your high blood pressure within acceptable limits and below danger levels.

It is a fact that there is no cure for high blood pressure, but one can still keep it under control with the help of proper diet, medication and exercise. <bio>To get more information visit http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Low-Blood-Pressure.htm, http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/Blood-Pressure-Diet.htm and http://www.blood-pressure-updates.com/bp/magazine/edition/High-Blood-Pressure.htm </bio>

If your nurse or doctor measures your blood pressure at 140/90 then you suffer from hypertension. Many adults and even some children have high blood pressure. It is very important to get proper treatment to control your high blood pressure. Diet for high blood pressure patients has to be healthy since along with medications and exercises a balanced diet can equally help in keeping your blood pressure under control.

Following a diet for high blood pressure also reduces or prevents clogged arteries, increases in cholesterol, cancer and also reduces weight. The ideal diet for high blood pressure patients should include low fat or fat free products and should definitely exclude animal fats, red meat, sugary products, and sweets. Surveys show that high potassium and low sodium content in fruits and vegetables help in regulating the blood pressure level.

The diet for high blood pressure is best when it doesn't contain high amount of salt or sodium. Many people might think salt-less food might be flavorless. To add flavor to the diet for high blood pressure you can add spices to the food instead of salt.

There are certain tips for your diet for high blood pressure that you can follow such as, rinse canned food in order to rinse off sodium. Instead, buy frozen salt free vegetables, which don't contain much salt or sodium and restrict your intake of cured meat, ham bacon, pickles, olives, mustard, ketchup, and Soy sauce in your diet for high blood pressure.

It is obvious that diet affects blood pressure level. Therefore, it is very important that you maintain a proper, healthy, and balanced diet for high blood pressure.

The most important thing that you should avoid in your diet for high blood pressure is salt. Intake of salt for hypertension patients can be harmful as it just accentuates the problem. You can lower your blood pressure to a great extent if you cut down salt consumption in your diet for high blood pressure. You should not have more than 6 grams of salt per day. You must cut down on pizza, frozen diners, canned food, broths, canned soups and salad dressings since these have high sodium content in them. If you are non-vegetarian then make sure you are including fresh poultry, fish, and lean meat in your diet.

In order to avoid salt in your diet you must avoid junk food as well. If there is a mineral imbalance in your diet then it might have an adverse effect on your health condition. Maintaining a healthy diet can work wonders. It can help you to reduce your blood pressure within a period of two weeks.

If you are suffering from high blood pressure you should consult your primary care physician for advice prior to making any changes to your diet. <bio>Paul Johnson.
