When buying snowboarding equipment the first item on most minds is the snowboard. So what are the basic 'need to knows' of the snowboard types?

Types of Snowboard:

There are three types of snowboard to consider: Freestyle, Freeride(all mountain) and Alpine (carving boards).

Freestyle Snowboards

These are wide, stable snowboards that are forgiving to ride. They are very responsive which makes them good equipment used for snowboarding for novices. The snowboard characteristics make them good for pulling tricks but less responsive in high speed carving due to flexibility and edge grip. They are often twin tipped and multi directional making them good for tricks and half pipes but ideal for beginners.

Freeride(all mountain)Snowboards

Generally the most popular snowboard on the slopes. Good for all mountain use, park or half pipe. Freeride snowboards tend to float reasonably well on powder, can carve and can be used to catch air, this make them popular boards. Freeride snowboards tend to be directional, meaning one end (the tip) is wider than the tail. They tend to be soft and manouveurable for beginners but offer enough stiffness for fast carves in harder snow, these boards offer a mix of characteristics between freestyle and alpine snowboards.

Alpine Snowboards

definitely not for the novice, these snowboards are stiff, narrow, long and built for speed. Built for speed carving and stability at speed with good edge holding powers they tend to be either symmetrical or asymmetrical but always built for one way travel.

Length and Width of Snowboard

Once you have chosen the type of snowboard that best suits your level of competence and ride style there are then several other factors to be considered in your choice of snowboard before buying.

Your height and foot size play an important part in your choice of snowboard.

The length of snowboard that will suit will be down to the riders height and ridestyle. Snowboards are usually 100cms to 180cms long.

A freestyle snowboard should stand tall enough to reach between the riders shoulders and chin when stood on end.

A freeride snowboard should reach between chin and eyebrows.

An alpine or carving snowboard should stand tall enough to reach a point between the forehead and a few inches above the head.

Foot size is important for determining the width of the snowboard. If your feet overhang the board there is a danger of catching an edge and tumbling. If your feet are too small then it is difficult to apply pressure to the edges to initiate turns. If you are an advanced rider using a carving board with big feet it may be necessary to alter your stance to avoid overhanging the edges.

Of course before you buy equipment used for snowboarding you should rent a few snowboards first to see what style, brand best suit you. <bio>John Rodgers writes for http://www.snowboarding-picture.com </bio>

Before you head out on the slopes, you should take the time to check all of your equipment to make sure that it is working properly. This includes checking your snowboard to make sure that the bindings are secure and that there are many ridges on the bottom of the board that could get caught on rough patches. Oiling the board before you take it out will help reduce friction and allow you to have a safe ride on most snow conditions. If you will be snowboarding with a group of people, you should make sure that their snowboards are in good working condition as well.

When snowboarding with others, you should agree on a meeting place and time. This is important when snowboarding in a new place. Safety in cold weather does save lives. Meeting a few hours after you begin will ensure that everyone is safe. You should snowboard in teams if possible. While you should not snowboard when there are many people skiing and snowboarding, you should try to find slopes that have other people on them. They will be able to help in case you are injured and need medical assistance.

Make sure your snowboard boots are functioning properly before you go outside. Make sure all the buckles are working and that they are not too tight or too loose. If your boots do not fit properly, then you may fall while on your board. You can twist your ankle or break your leg if it gets turned the wrong way. Checking all equipment is important, but you should pay particular attention to your boots. If you don't think your boots are suitable, you can rent some for the day.

Snowboard bindings are used to keep your feet planted on your board. If they are loose, you could injure yourself. Replace any bindings before you go on your trip. This will help reduce the risk of injury. Snowboarding requires you to jump, slide, and turn quickly. You will not be able to do any of these things if your bindings do not work.

When packing for your snowboarding trip, you will have to remember to bring enough warm clothing, hats, gloves, and snowboard goggles so that you will be warm. Goggles will help you see where you are going and will prevent you from injuring your eyes. When snowboarding, it is important to always know where you are going. Being able to see will reduce your risk of being injured.

When you have checked all of your snowboarding equipment, you will be ready to go on your trip. Checking your equipment right before you head out will help to keep you even safer so that you will be able to have a fun trip. <bio>Carl Deveraux is a freelance editor for Snowboard Cabin Snowboards.
Snowboarding is a sport growing in popularity and as a result the variety of snowboards available is becoming quite large and can make it hard to choose which one is right for you. There are currently hundreds of different brands of snowboards and equipment to choose from.

Many ski resorts and ski shops will allow you to rent snowboarding equipment so it could be a good idea to rent some different snowboards to get a feel for the boards and find out which one would best suit you. It is important to get a snowboard based on your weight and height. Men's boards will be different in length than women's boards and are likely to have different designs, but really there is nothing major to stop you from using either board. Children will of course have boards based on their size.

You can get snowboards that are made specifically to allow you to do certain skills like you all rounder boards will allow you to free ride up and down mountains and will be fine for someone just starting out and learning the sport. The all rounders will also allow you to tackle jumps and moguls. Other boards are made more for speed and may be longer and have less of a curved edge.

Some of the common brands of snowboards are as follows:

=95Burton =96 Burton is one of the most popular brands and has been in business for 30 years. Burton is the `big name' in snowboarding. Many of the `big' professional snowboarders endorse the Burton brand.

=95Forum =96 The Forum company has a very dedicated team, the results of which shows in the quality and craftsmanship of their products. Burton was very impressed with the Forum Company and as a result acquired the company in 2004.

=95Gnu =96 This is a very long standing brand and they are a very innovative company. All Gnu snowboards are handmade and are of very good quality.

=95Ride =96 Ride are a very popular company that offer great quality in their boards as well as very stylish outerwear. They are always improving their gear and have uniqueness about their products.

=95Rome =96 This is a company formed by some experienced snowboarders that have such a passion for their sports that they decided to share their passion by offering people their innovative and unique products. If you want to have some fun with your snowboarding products then Rome is a good choice.

Some other snowboard brands are Flow, K2, Arbor, Elan, Nidecker, Rossignol and Salomon.

For some of the top brands you will be paying $500 or even up to $1000. These are quite specialized boards that will allow you to do skills like tight turns and speed riding.

There is a big selection of snowboards available online but you have the disadvantage of not being able to physically touch or look at the board before you buy it. This is where renting can be very useful if you rent some boards and find which one is right for you then you can go shopping online and find the board that you want. <bio>Lucas Bradford.
It's that time of the year again - how often do you find yourself dreading the bitter cold winter and for many the real prospect of piling on weight partly due to over indulgence in food during the Christmas holiday season and also because of the general lack of motivation to exercise? If you need the fun factor in exercise during winter, try snowboarding.

Snowboarding has in recent years become increasingly popular especially with the general public. Just like snow-skiing, it is a well-loved winter sport. As you will be spending a lot of time on the snow mountain, it is important that you put on the correct protective snowboard clothing and gear to ensure your safety, comfort and warmth. Your first layer of clothing should be made of materials that wick moisture away from your body such as polypropylene or synthetic polyester. Avoid cotton materials as they absorb moisture without wicking it away from your body, therefore causing your body to lose heat rather than trapping it. Your next layer, after putting on a base layer of long underwear, sleeves and woollen socks should serve as the insulation layer. Put on a wool jacket, a pullover sweater or a micro fleece sweater top that you can easily take off if you warm up too much or add to if the day is particularly cold. Then your last outer layer of snowboard clothing (jacket and pants) should have strong waterproof and windproof properties to keep you dry and your body temperature sealed in. The harsher the environment and climate, the more robust your weatherproof clothing needs to be including having features such as additional venting, extra waterproofing and having inner cuffs on your pants to seal tightly around your boots to prevent snow from accumulating in your boots.

Being exposed to the snow all day can be very detrimental to your eyes especially on a bright sunny day when the ray reflects off the white snow. You must wear goggles to protect your eyes from the harmful rays and piercing winds. Wearing a helmet will protect your head and keep it warm. In more extreme weather conditions, you will need to have a neck wrap which will shield your neck and face from the elements. To protect your hands, make sure you get a pair of stretchable gloves that fit over the cuffs of your jacket. Some people prefer using mittens as they are warmer than gloves. There is a wide selection of snowboards designed for different groups of users depending on their snowboarding skill levels, age, body build and the type of snow mountain that the snowboard will be put to use. They come in different shapes and sizes and technical specifications, do check with the experts to determine the best snowboard for you. When selecting a pair of suitable boots, make sure the boots feel snug from heel to toe. When you raise your heel, the heel of the boot should raise in tandem. You should not be able to rotate your foot or ankle in the boot. Loose boots will lead to injury and cause you to lose control of the snowboard when sliding down the slope.

It is always a good idea to choose functionality over fashion, it is not so much as looking good as paying attention to your snowboard clothing and gear to ensure maximum comfort and protection for your body. <bio>For more great articles and advice on Snow Boarding, please visit http://snowboarding.articlebee.net </bio>

The life of a snowboarder can be hard. While boarding is becoming much more popular in the US, boarders still don't get a lot of love from skiers. That's why it's important to be aware of the best places to snowboard. If you know the best places, you'll not only be able to find the best slopes and terrain parks for boarding, you'll also be able to find a place great atmosphere where you're not the only one who enjoys snowboarding. There are many places where you can have a great time boarding, but two of the best are in Colorado. They boast not only great runs, but great atmosphere as well.

If you're looking for a great place to snowboard, the first place you want to check out is Breckenridge. They've got 146 runs with a good mix of beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert levels. If you're less about going down the mountain and more about doing tricks, they also have three terrain parks. One of the terrain parks, Freeway Superpark, hosts several competitions every year and is widely considered the best terrain park in Colorado and even North America. If you're not quite ready for that kind of park yet, they also have a terrain park built specifically for beginners to learn their moves. And if you get bored of the mountains at Breckenridge, you can catch a free shuttle over to neighboring Keystone for some night skiing and snowboarding (and the tickets are interchangeable). If this isn't enough for you, the town has a great atmosphere as well. The resort area is the largest historic district in the state of Colorado. It boasts tons of shops, a variety of great restaurants, oxygen bars, and you can take free shuttles from town to each peak. If you're into the night-life, Breckenridge has several clubs and bars to suit all the late-night partiers. If you're with people who are into something besides going down the mountain, there is also snowmobiling, ice skating, dog sled tours, hiking trails, and a whole lot more. If you're looking for a great all-around resort, Breckenridge is the place to go.

If you're just learning to snowboard, Vail is a great resort to check out. Besides the fact that Vail is widely considered to be the best ski resort in the US (and the biggest), it's also got great accommodations for those who are just starting out; including a school with over 800 instructors (including those fluent in different languages) and tons of beginner runs. This way you won't get by doing the same thing over and over while you're learning. They also boast one of the largest terrain parks for those looking to work on their tricks. Vail is also not a bad place to go for those of you who are a little more experienced on the slopes. They have so many different runs of all levels; snowboards of all levels of experience are bound to keep busy the whole time they're there. And when you're taking a break from boarding, you can take one of the free shuttles into town where you can fine over 250 shops and 100 restaurants and bars. In a resort like Vail, you're sure to never get bored.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your board and head off to one of these great resorts! <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for http://www.goskibreckenridge.com/ and http://www.goskiaspen.com/.
Often when we are sidelined with pain and illness, we stop dreaming - about who we want to become, what we want to do, things we want to experience, how we want to impact the world. This often leads to a profound sense of loss, fear, frustration, and sometimes depression. We can become trapped and immobilized by not only our physical pain, but our emotional distress as well.

But your pain doesn't have to stop you from living a fulfilling, exciting life! Your journey with pain is a unique opportunity to slow down, take a look at your life up to this point, and reinvent it. It all starts with reinventing your dreams! Dreams are the fuel that moves you from frustration to fulfillment and satisfaction! I invite you to start reinventing today!

Exercise

Make a list of dreams and goals you've had in life.

Choose two or three that leap out at you. As you do this, you might hear yourself saying things like, "Yeah right. Not anymore! I hurt too much to do that." If that's true, I think you'll get tremendous value from this exercise.

Really think about those dreams. What is it that drew you to them? What's the essence? Is it something that's going to increase your pain? For how long? Will the excitement be worth an increased pain level for a few days? Is there a way you could accomplish the dream without increasing your pain?

Example I used to love hiking, until my health problems turned any attempt at a hike into a painful nightmare. So I reinvented that dream - maintaining the essence, but adjusting the method. Now I enjoy the beauty of nature in a way that is conducive to my current health by going for short walks on flat paths in the woods, or sitting on the beach, or riding my bike leisurely through the park.

Brainstorm creative ways that you could reinvent the dream so that you experience what you really want in a way that supports your overall health and wellness. Ask for input from friends if you get stuck.

Example If you love to snowboard, but are not up to riding, maybe you could go watch a snowboard competition; take a gondola ride to the top of a local ski resort just to be in the midst of the energy (make sure you can also ride back down!); ride for an hour on the bunny hills; look into snowboard adaptations that would enable you to sit while riding; try inner tubing; and much more!

Choose one item from your brainstorm list that you will look into in the next 24 hours. Be in motion towards achieving your dreams!

You can live a dream come true life. Even if your life is marked by pain! <bio>Joanna Wasmuth is the founder of Harmony Coaching - http://www.harmonycoaching.com.
Are you looking for the perfect gift to give your boss for his birthday? Perhaps you are about to attend a bridal shower or baby shower and are unsure of what to bring the guest of honor. Is your daughter at that awkward age where you just don't know what she'll want for her birthday? Fear not, the perfect gift for these and all other occasions is easy to purchase, wrap and give. Consider giving gift cards for all of the important gifts on your list.

Very simply, gift cards are like gift certificates and they can be purchased at most stores in a variety of amounts. They are the perfect gift to give for people of any age and with any taste. Think about the person you need to purchase a gift for. Of course you know the basic details like their age and gender, but it might help to know if this person has any special hobbies or skills. If they love to snowboard perhaps you can get them a gift card from a local snowboard shop. If you know a woman who loves to read there are countless bookstores that sell gift cards. So do a little bit of detective work to determine what kind of store your intended would enjoy gift cards from.

If you aren't sure of any specific things that the person you are buying for enjoys, take heart, there are plenty of stores that sell gift cards to meet your shopping needs. Consider buying gift cards to department stores or other general stores that sell a variety of items. You can never go wrong purchasing gift cards at stores that offer many options.

Another great thing about purchasing gift cards for any occasion is that most people love receiving gift cards. Who doesn't love being able to go into a store and spend their money on the thing they like most? Most everyone would prefer receiving gift cards over having people guess on items they will like, especially for important events like weddings. So, even if you feel like giving gift cards seems impersonal, think about how much your friend or loved one will appreciate your desire to have them pick out the gift they love the most.

Gift cards are great because they are quick and easy to buy. Simply place the gift card in a handwritten card and you have your gift taken care of. The person receiving the gift cards will also love how easy it is to save and then use their gift cards. They will not have to fake a smile or a thank you and they will not have to hassle with returning items that they will never use.

Everyone is better off when gift cards are given as gifts, so make a list of all the gift cards you need and then head off to purchase them. You will have your list complete in no time and your gift cards will be loved and appreciated by all who receive them. <bio>When he isn't busy giving gift cards, Matthias Reightman loves to write articles that encourage others to become good gift givers.
Why skiing? Because it is not only enjoyable, but is a great way of fitness: skiing is a great form of exercise requiring a level of skill, balance, and flexibility. Skiing is also great way to strengthen and tone several muscle groups.

What can be such a big fun like skiing? The mountains, the views, the blue sky and breathing clean mountain air...unless you are in an indoor sky slope in Dubai. But if you would like to have real adventure, go outside.

Vermont is New England's winter sports capital and Vermont Ski Areas attract thousands of skiers every ski season. It is not an exaggeration that Vermont has the hottest skiing resorts in the eastern US. You can explore the best ski and snowboard resorts in the eastern US in Vermont.

Vermont is a very important feature of U.S. ski history. The first alpine ski lift in America was in Woodstock, and many Vermont Olympians have lifted ski medals on the podium. Cross-country skiing caught on at the Trapp Family Lodge and telemark skiing began its renaissance here. Vermont is home to the first U.S. Olympic gold medal winner in nordic skiing, Bill Koch, as well as outstanding alpine skiers such as Betsy Snite, Andrea Meade, Suzy Chaffee, Billy Kidd and several members of the Cochrane family. The Green Mountain State is a heaven for ski apostles of all tastes and experience levels.

If you would like to go to a very well equipped and large area, try Killington first: this place

offers the most skiing ... Killington is the largest ski and snowboard area in the East. Killington offers most variety of terrain served by the East's highest capacity lift system. Six interconnected mountains and nearby Pico Mountain, provide unparalleled diversity of skiing and the greatest vertical in New England. Snowboarders are drawn to the challenge of the longest terrain park in the East.

Killington also features nearby lodging, convenient services, family activities, some of the best ski shops in New England. Within the region there are also a variety of shopping delights -- factory outlets, antique shops, artisan workshops, craft fairs and rustic country stores.

You'll find easy access to the resort by ground transportation services or by resort shuttle systems. You'll have a great experience if you visit Vermont, don't miss it! <bio>Fruzsina Csery wrote this article for http://www.vermontatoz.com </bio>

The world of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/professional+snow<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/boarders" rel="tag">boarders" rel="tag">professional snowboarders is one where youth is often more of an asset than a disadvantage. In many sports, years of experience are necessary before it is possible to compete against the top tier of athletes; but the youthful spring of teen snowboarders often gives them enough of a leg up that they can reach the pinnacle of their field before they are even old enough to drive a car. Boarders sometimes turn pro as early as thirteen or fourteen years of age.

Snowboarding is surrounded by a very youthful culture, and the fact that so many of the sport's stars are so young contributes to its appeal among kids and preteens. Skiing, which is similar to boarding in many ways, can feel very remote to young people because its stars are mostly somewhat older and very experienced.

There is a lot of debate surrounding the question of whether skiing or snowboarding is easier to learn, but the fact that so many famous boarders are so young seems to suggest that excelling as a boarder does not require quite as many years on the slopes as it usually takes to become a top skier. A dedicated and talented snowboarder can master the sport fairly quickly, and it is not unusual for a boarder to progress from novice to expert in as little as four or five years. Because many boarding role models are still in high school, and some are even still in middle school, excellence in snowboarding feels like a very attainable goal to today's kids.

Of course, just because snowboarding is popular with young people doesn't mean that it is off limits for older people who are interesting in boarding. Many habitual skiers choose to make some time on the snowboard a regular part of their sports regime. Taking up snowboarding is a great way to capitalize on and further develop the balance skills and agility that you have gained by pursuing skiing or any other sport. Boarding can be a lot of fun, and there are many intricate tricks and twists that are unlike the maneuvers that athletes perform in any other sport.

Some older sports enthusiasts are intimidated by the fact that pro boarders are so much younger than them, but there is no reason to let the fact that the leaders in the field may be less than half your age stop you from trying your hand at the art of snowboarding. For anyone who enjoys pursuing winter sports as a hobby, it is worth spending at least a few days on a snowboard learning the basics. The skills that you develop on a board can translate into many other arenas, and learning to board can make you a better skier, a better runner, or even a better football player.

If you are looking for a way to have a blast while adding some new elements to your training schedule, snowboarding might prove to be just the thing you are looking for.
So, you're planning a skiing or snowboarding trip. You have your travel and lodging plans all set up, but have you gotten your equipment yet? While buying your own equipment may be more convenient, it's also a lot more expensive. If you have never been skiing before, you may want to consider renting in case you find you don't like it. You can always buy equipment the next time you go. Renting also makes it affordable for people who can't spend hundreds of dollars to buy equipment. Plus, you won't have to lug all the extra baggage on the plane or in the car. If you have children, you know how quickly kids can grow out of their clothes. When you rent, you don't have to buy your kids new equipment every year or two when they grow out of the old stuff.

Once you've decided to rent equipment, you should make sure to reserve it well before you take your trip. This is especially important if you're going during peak season. If you wait until you get there, you may have to do a lot of searching to find appropriate sizes and equipment. You definitely want to make reservations if you're renting snowboarding equipment. Snowboarding has greatly increased in popularity and many stores haven't caught up with demand.

You will probably have a choice of renting equipment at the mountain, or from other stores in the area. At certain resorts where there's not much of a town you should probably rent at the mountain. At other resorts, you may have many other rental options. The benefit of renting elsewhere is that you'll probably get a better price.

If you're only renting for one day, the mountain will probably be more convenient because you won't have to carry equipment as far.

If you decide to rent at the mountain, you should arrive an hour before you plan to ski or snowboard. This will give you time to get your equipment and get fitted. If you rent elsewhere, it's best to get the equipment the day before you go out. This way, you'll be able to find other accommodations if they do not have the appropriate equipment. When you get there, you should be ready ahead of time with everyone's shoe sizes, heights, and weights. While some people may want to fudge on their weight, you should be honest. The type of equipment you need depends on your weight. If you give the wrong weight, you may be risking your own safety. If you have a very large shoe size, you should make sure the shop you rent from has the right size boots. If not, you should buy equipment online before you show up. You should ask the shop before you do this; you may be able to buy boots that fit their equipment.

When you get ready to sign the contract for your equipment, they will offer you insurance on the equipment. SAY YES! While your chance damaging the equipment is probably fairly low, it's still a great idea. Cost for insurance is generally about a dollar a day. That's 3 or 4 dollars per trip. Compare this to the hundreds of dollars you could pay to fix damage to skis or a snowboard. And that's nothing compared to the cost if you completely ruin the equipment. You should also remember that it doesn't take that much to damage equipment. A mountain is covered in snow when you ski on it, but under that snow are rocks and branches. If the snow cover is thin on a mountain, you risk hitting these objects and you generally can't see them to avoid them.

Hopefully these tips will help you get the right equipment and get you to the mountain. Have a great trip! <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for two ski resort websites.
If you've just gotten into snowboarding, there are certain things that change as soon as you buy your own gear. One of the most important things to remember is that upkeep and maintenance are vital to the well being of your gear and its performance out there on the mountain. You want to make sure that at all times you give your gear the attention it deserves. If not you will be looking at buying a brand new set in no time, and it's not an inexpensive proposition to replace gear annually.

Cleaning Your Board

The easiest and first thing you should do with your gear is to keep your board clean. Every time you return from the mountain make sure you clean you give it a quick clean down. While it's at times acceptable to leave your board dirty between outings during the midst of boarding season, you should never store your board dirty. If you won't be going back up the mountain again for a few weeks or the season is winding down, you should take the time to ensure a full cleaning.

Citrus based cleaning solvents can be found in most board shops, though common household cleaners without any corrosive chemicals can be used as well. Citrus cleaners are good for this type of cleaning because they remove the dirt as a cleaning solvent and dissolve much of the excess wax residue left from the season. You'll want to prime it for the next waxing, so ensure you have it nice and clean before putting your board away.

Repairs

After cleaning the excess wax off of the board, it's time to see to any repairs that might have come to your attention over the season, small things you haven't gotten to yet. Check your edges for any dull or burred surfaces in need of filing. Likewise, check the base for any damage. You should have a basic kit to repair small bits of damage quickly such as a p-tex candle. However, if your damage is too substantial to fix yourself or you just don't feel comfortable fixing it yourself, you should take your board to a pro-shop and have them see to the damage.

Waxing

When you've finally cleaned and repaired your board back to good, working condition, it's time for a nice hot waxing. To do it on your own, you'll only need a scraper, an iron, and wax. There are specialty snowboarding irons available that are probably better choices than household irons, but those household items will still get the job done. You'll basically apply the wax generously to the base and edges of your board with the iron. Make sure to keep it as even as possible and scrape away any excess when you're done.

Professional Help

If all of that work sounds a little too daunting for you, there are plenty of stores that will do it for you. The repairs might be costly, but a waxing generally only costs about $20. They have all the materials and equipment ready to do it quickly and efficiently without you worrying about an even wax.

If you take the right amount of time every year to maintain your board, you can ensure that your snowboarding gear lasts you for years. It's a pricey sport to get started in, but good maintenance can go a long way towards minimizing future cost. <bio>Tony Brian is a freelance writer for outdoor sports magazines and a contributing writer for BDU's specializing in snowboarding, snowboard, and http://www.paintball-gun.com/ </bio>

You know what they like and can tailor the gift baskets to meet their tastes.

1. Food gift baskets

You know the usual gift baskets. Food, wine and all that jazz.

Well, a fruit basket filled with fruit harvested from your garden would be wonderful... if the seasons permit it. If not, if you made jams and preserves from harvested fruit, these would be wonderful in the gift basket.

* Get a wicker basket. * Put a huge box of biscuits you baked yourself at the bottom of the basket. * Arrange colorful bottles of jam on top of that box, with a bottle of wine in the center. * Use a clear adhesive tape to hold everything in place. * Then wrap the entire basket and its contents with cellophane paper. * Tie a ribbon around the wine bottle for the finishing touch.

2. Makeover gift basket

Know of a plain jane you would like to makeover into a lovely swan? Drag her to the mall and get her to try out various dresses until you find one she looks amazing in. Buy that for her.

Drag her to the makeup counter for one makeover after another and when you find a look she looks fabulous in, and buy the makeup used to create that look.

Cart her to the shoe shop and pick a pair of high heels that fit her and which go with the outfit.

If she still lets you live, put the shoes, dress and makeup in a basket and wrap it with cellophane. No doubt it wouldn't be a surprise, but that would probably be the gift that she would remember more than anything else. She might be embarassed when you get her to use that gift at a party, but I'm sure she'd be pleased whether or not she shows it.

3. Jewelry gift basket.

Your gift basket need not really be in a basket. You could even use those compartmentalized boxes for fish bait for this jewelry gift basket.

Get a collection of earrings you know she would like. Costume jewelry would be wonderful. Cubic Zirconia earrings and jewelry are very affordable. You might even put in a necklace or two and other jewels that fit into these compartments.

Once every compartment is filled, decorate the box by gluing color paper on the lid and letting your artistic talent loose as you write a message on it using metallic ink.

Wrap it up and give her this treasure chest for Christmas.

Besides these gift baskets, you can make a gift basket according to the hobbies of the recipient. If he loves golf, take a golf bag and fill it with golf balls, golf t-shirt, and golf related items.

If she travels often, fill a compact box with travel sized mini lipsticks, mascara, makeup, skincare and the like.

If he loves snowboarding, fold and pile some snowboarding clothes on top of a brand new snowboard, using the snowboard as the gift basket. How it looks depends on your creativity. Can you make it look like a Christmas tree?

If your gift baskets don't turn out well, or you don't have the time, consider the professionally made ones from the resource below. <bio>If your gift baskets don't turn out right or you want something more convenient, check out these http://www.christmas-giftshop.com/christmas-gift-baskets.htm from http://www.christmas-giftshop.com/christmas-gift-baskets.htm Get cubic zirconia earrings from http://www.cheapestsale.com/jewelry/CZ.html </bio>

Nose - the nose is the end that usually point's downhill Tail - the tail is the end that usually points uphill Toe edge - the side of the board where your toes are Heel edge - the side of the board where your heels are binding - the thing that binds your foot to the board.

Regular vs. Goofy

Picture yourself sliding downhill sideways. Which side is facing downhill, you're right or left? Alternatively, imagine yourself sliding across the kitchen floor in your socks. Which foot is forward? If you answered left, you're "regular". If you answered right, you're "goofy". On a snowboard, your feet are not perfectly pointed straight toward the toe edge, they are slightly angled either to the left (regular) or to the right (goofy). Your "leading foot" (the foot that goes down the hill first) for a regular person, this is the left foot, for a goofy person, it's the right. The board pictured above is a regular board. On a goofy board, the nose is on the right and the tail is on the left.

Riding the Board

The first unusual factor you need to get used to thinking about is that you can face any direction while riding downhill on a snowboard. You can go down the slope backwards, that is, with your toes pointed uphill and your back in the direction in which you're traveling. You can go down the hill nose end first or tail end first. You can go downhill facing downhill, or you can do anything in between. Wicked hey?

The uphill edge

bare in mind while you are snowboarding, always put pressure on the uphill edge of the board. So, if you are going down the mountain backwards, that is, facing uphill, your pressure will be on your toes. This way of facing the mountain is called "toeside" for obvious reasons. If you are going down the mountain facing downhill, your pressure will be on your heels. This is called "heel side". DON'T put pressure on the downhill edge. It will cause you to fall over. Think about it. If you are heel side (that is, traveling downhill and facing downhill) and you dig the downhill edge (the toe edge) into the snow, what do you think will happen? The board will stop and you will keep going, causing you to tumble over your board and fall flat on your face. Similarly, if you are toeside (traveling downhill backwards) and your heel edge digs in, what is going to happen? Your board will stop and you won't, causing your backside to slam into the ground. And guess what this is known as?????????

Balancing front-back

The balance point is the center of your weight relative to the surface of the board. Try this: at a standstill, position the board so that it is perpendicular to the slope and you are facing downhill. Now, tilt the toe edge of the board up and down using your ankles, move yourself front and back until you find the spot where you won't tip over. That's your balance point. The balance point changes with the softness of the snow because in soft snow, you'll have to tilt your board away from the incline more so than you would on hard-packed snow. Try going heel side slowly down an incline by reducing the pressure applied by your heels.

Balancing left-right

For the most part, try to keep your weight evenly distributed between your two feet. You don't want to put more weight on the uphill foot. Why not? The surface of the board under the leading (downhill) foot is largely what steers you. Just think of a sled going down a hill. The steering is in the front; friction on the sides of these blades will make it turn. If that analogy didn't work for you, then consider this one: Ever done a pop-a-wheelie on your bike as a kid? What happens when you steer while your front wheel is in the air? It has no effect on your direction, right? No control. Same thing with a snowboard, if there is no pressure on the leading end (the downhill foot), you have no steering.

Stopping

a stop is a lot like a hockey-stop on ice skates. You bring the board perpendicular to the slope and dig the uphill edge in. If you are heel side (if you are facing downhill) you stop by digging your heels in. If you are toeside, (if you are facing uphill) you stop by digging your toes in. Slowing down is basically the same thing. It's just that when you want to stop you apply a lot of pressure fast. At the same time, you'll be balancing your weight (shifting your balance point) so you don't upset your position to the point where you tip over. Practice stopping heel side. Then practice stopping toeside.

Turning

Okay, this part is important, so pay attention. Start with your board perpendicular to (that is, horizontal across) the slope and then apply less and less pressure to the edge and see what happens. The leading foot tends to go downhill. If you stay in this position, with the lead foot downhill and the board parallel with the slope, you'll go fast. To turn, start digging the heels in. What happens? You turn heel side. If you had dug your toes in instead, you would have turned toeside. WAIT UNTIL the nose of your board is pointed directly downhill BEFORE digging in the edge. Always look in the direction where you want to go. You have a tendency to go where you are looking because your head is followed by your shoulders/upper body and then by your hips. It may help to stick your hand out in the direction you want to go. This will help get your shoulder to turn. Avoid looking at the ground right in front of you, especially when you are toeside. Instead, when you are toeside, look over your shoulder in the direction you think you want to turn. When you want to actually turn, let your shoulder follow your head. Your hips and feet will follow. <bio>This article is published on robin scotts website http://www.powder-zone.co.uk </bio>

However the man in your life gets his thrills; give him Ultimate Experience Days Gifts. Whether he wants a drive in a dream car, spin out in a cockpit or literally jump for joy in the snow, gifts for him will never be the same again. And we guarantee he's going to love you for it!

Originally launched in 2003, the Lamborghini Gallardo benefits from increased V10 engine power of five hundred and twenty horsepower, and lower ratio gears, reaching a top speed of one hundred and ninety six miles per hour and accelerating from nought to sixty-two miles per hour in just four seconds. Designed to redefine its segment as the best high performance car, the Lamborghini Gallardo is a sports car to fulfil any man's fantasy. Using aluminium space frame technology, the dry weight of the car is just one thousand four hundred and thirty kilograms, despite its permanent four-wheel drive. The engine is mid-rear mounted, with particular attention paid to achieving correct weight distribution: forty two percent in the front and fifty eight percent in the rear.

The Gallardo is undoubtedly a Lamborghini, whilst asserting its individuality: designed with an evident purism, athleticism and sharpness, its long wheelbase with short overhangs gives it its dynamic appearance. Gallardo, in Lamborghini tradition, takes its name from a breed of fighting bulls: the 18th century Gallardo stock were famous for their aggressive beauty and performance. When the lucky man in your life learns he's been given a Lamborghini Thrill Driving Experience day Gifts Pack and treated to a drive in one if the most exclusive Italian supercars, conventional gifts for him are destined to take a back seat from now on!

But if that doesn't blow his hair back, perhaps the Ultimate Aerobatics Flight Gift for Him in a Cap 10 or Pitts Special will! First, the instructor will perform an extreme aerobatic sequence. It's then time for him to try and perform the same manoeuvres as the instructor coaches him! The Cap 10 and Pitts Special are the aircraft used around the world by professional aerobatic pilots in competitions. Aerobatic flying has to be the ultimate for those flying fanatics who seek stomach-churning thrills. Make no mistake - this experience day for him is not for the faint-hearted. Anyone who knows a little bit about air displays will know that these CAP10 aircraft are the 'industry standard' for performing amazing stunts in the sky. His expert pilot will take him through an extreme aerobatic sequence and then it's over to him to have a go at repeating the loops, rolls and turns under the careful coaching of the pilot.

The Pitts Special is perhaps the most famous aerobatic biplane of all time and is an American design, which was once the favoured mount of World Champions. Although no longer used at world competition level, its capabilities are awesome. Its amazing power to weight ratio and ability to pull face changing G forces will give your man the most exciting ride of his life. An Aerobatics Trial Lesson Flight Certificate will be awarded afterwards with photo opportunities for guests, an Experience Day for Him to savour and keep forever!

If the above aren't suitable birthday gifts for him; what about a little Snowboarding Lesson? This is a great chance to learn the latest sports craze of snowboarding. Snowboarding is a sport that involves descending a snow-covered slope on a snowboard attached to his feet using a special boot set into a mounted binding, experience day for him that will knock his socks off.

The development of snowboarding was inspired by surfing and skateboarding, and the sport shares superficial similarities with skiing. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s and the 1970s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998. Did you know there are several different disciplines within the sport of snowboarding? Freestyle snowboarding is the discipline most closely associated with snowboarding's skateboard roots. All-Mountain Snowboarding make up arguably the largest group within the sport. An all-mountain rider is one who dabbles in each discipline while focusing mostly on riding everything the mountain has to offer. Snowboard Racing, simply put, involves competing against another snowboarder or group of snowboarders in a race against the clock. Snowboard-cross or Boarder-X races combine aspects of both gate racing and freestyle riding. Lessons take place at one of the country's permanent snow all the year round venues. Then the birthday man will have an initial safety briefing and he's off to the slopes. The lesson will cover equipment and basic skills.

Truly, Experience Day Gifts for Him are bound to put a smile on his face until next year, that is!<bio>To explore our range of Experience Days further, please visit our website at http://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk.</bio>

Action Sports are very popular these days and there are many types. They include sports such as Motocross racing, Surfing, Waterskiing, Parasailing, Rock Climbing and the list goes on. Here is a brief history of the beginnings of a few of the more popular Action Sports.

History of Skateboarding.

Skateboarding began in Southern California sometime in the late 40s or early 50s. Southern California has some of the most popular surfing spots in the state which attract surfers from all over the world. Even when the waves were not right the surfers wanted to be able to surf so somehow skateboarding evolved, no one really knows who built the very first skateboard, but the idea caught on and spread like wild fire. Today there are skateparks, ramp skating, trick skating and the Skateboard itself has evolved to allow skaters the ability to perform very complicated tricks and maneuvers.

History of Snowboarding.

The first Snowboard was called the Snurfer and was manufactured as a toy in 1966. I was basically a Skateboard with no wheels that you would steer with a rope. It had no bindings but would allow your boots to adhere to the board. In the early 70s a surfer developed a Snowboard called the Winterstick based on the feel of a surfboard but with the same function as skis. Through the years Snowboards and Snowboarding have increased greatly in popularity with the boards now being designed to enable Snowboards to race and perform freestyle tricks.

History of Skiing.

Skiing began as a means of travel and transportation. Sondre Norheim of Norway helped develop Skiing as Recreation and a Sport. In the mid to late 1800s lighter, thinner, cambered skis and a new stiff binding were developed which made it possible for skiers to swing, jump and maneuver turns while skiing down hill.

Some types of skiing are;

Alpine Skiing is what you do when you go to a ski resort, ride the lift and let gravity propel you down the run.

Alpine Freestyle or Jib skiing is where skiers use jumps or kicks to do aerial tricks.

Back Country Skiing or Nordic touring uses Nordic style equipment which allows skiers to ski up hill in areas where there are no chairlifts.

Cross Country Racing is one third up hill, one third downhill and one third flat.

Adaptive Skiing is done by people with physical disabilities and allows for adaptations to standard ski equipment.

Military Skiing is recreational and a means of transportation for the military, many armies train for ski warfare.

Nordic Jumping or ski flying is where skiers slide down a ramp and fly to see who can to the furthest before landing on the ground.

Nordic Skiing is the most popular style and does not require a special ski area and was developed in Scandinavia as a means of travel in winter.

Telemark skiing uses flexible ski boots that do not lock the heels into the skis which allow the skier to travel at higher speeds.

History of Cycling.

Cycling has grown in popularity over the years and throughout the world. In some countries it is a means of transportation through very narrow streets that will not allow cars to travel or countries where cars are too expensive. Cycling as a sport has increased in popularity throughout the world as well and uses bikes that are specially designed for the terrain and speeds.

Action Sports Gifts.

Action Sports are becoming more popular everyday and there are many types. They can include other sports such as Motocross racing, Surfing, Waterskiing, Parasailing, Rock Climbing, 4 Wheeling, Snowmobiling, Drag Racing, Mountain Biking and more.

Some interesting gift ideas for an Action Sports enthusiast might be to decorate a small tree with Action Sports Ornaments. There are Skateboarding Ornaments, Bike Racer Ornaments, Gifts for Snowboarders, Snowboarding Ornaments and Skiing Ornaments. These are just a few of the different types of Action Sports Gifts that are available. There are three very important things you need to know when you want to start your own eBay store. These things are:

1. You need to know your market.

2. You need to know your products.

3. You need to know your own financial limits.

Let's look at why you need to know your market.

These are the people that are going to put money into your pocket. It's a kind of, andquot;duh,andquot; statement, but you will be surprised at how many people simply focus on, andquot;I want to sell these widgets and make lots of money.andquot;

When you know what types of people are going to want to buy your products, then you can write your auction listings in the language (andquot;lingoandquot;) they talk and design your eBay store's look and feel to appeal to them.

You can then also start your eBay store right and target these people in your marketing campaigns. It's little use to hand out flyers about a new sizzling snowboard at a retirement village. Yet, that is synonymous with what many people do with their eBay store marketing.

It is also important that you know your products very well.

You must be able to describe your products very well and extremely accurately. The more information you give your buyer, the more satisfied your buyer will be with the purchase.

You also need to know which products go together. This is important when you want to cross-promote or upsell your products. What I mean by that is, when someone buys a particular item, you need to show the person similar items that go with that product during the checkout process.

This entices the buyer to spend more money with your eBay store, and that is a good thing, right?

Lastly, when you start your eBay store you need to know your own financial limits.

Unless you have lots of money and want to start an eBay store just for the fun of it, you probably want to turn a profit.

Spend money only on things that will either make you money or help with the marketing and promotion of your eBay store.

Do not overspend, never use your groceries money, and do not run up a huge credit card debt. Spend within your own reasonable limits.

Starting an eBay store requires that you know your market, know your product, and do not spend yourself out of business. <bio>Jason Griffith recommends that you review the very helpful tool to enhance your eBay selling success at http://www.auctionsellingsuccess.com . </bio>

This city is the forefront of technology and modern life in Norway.
