Patients that have a considerable amount of weight to lose often benefits from weight loss surgery. There are several different types of surgical weight loss options than works for those who are morbidly obese. The biggest advantage of having weight loss surgery is that most patients are able to lose their excess weight over a couple of years and can keep most of the weight off. In addition, weight loss surgery can also help resolve a host of health problems related to obesity.

Before having weight loss surgery, a patient must qualify. A doctor that specializes in these types of surgeries will carefully consider each patient's case before making a decision. For the most part, those who are good candidates for these types of surgeries must be considered morbidly obese.

This means that they must be at least 100 pounds or more over their normal body weight or twice their recommended body mass index. Patients who qualify for this surgery must be relatively healthy otherwise and not suffer from problems with the stomach, pancreas and intestines.

There are generally three types of weight loss surgery that are performed on overweight people. All of these surgeries either make the stomach capacity smaller by creating a new stomach pouch, or shortens the digestion tract by connecting the stomach to the large intestines and completely bypassing the small intestines.

The newer Lap-Band surgery makes a smaller stomach and is usually recommended because of the shorter recovery time and risks. In addition, the Lap-Band is often preferred because it is reversible and adjustable. Patients experience a more even paced rate of weight loss and are able to keep it off longer than with other surgical methods.

The Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass is a procedure that minimizes the amount of food that passes into the stomach. It also decreases the amount of food that is absorbed into the digestive system. The stomach is either stapled or sewn closed at the upper half creating a smaller stomach on top. The intestines are then connected to the smaller stomach and food passes directly from one are to another.

The initial advantages of this surgery are that there is rapid weight loss right after surgery. This surgery also has a higher success rate than other forms of weight loss surgery. However, the gastric bypass is often more invasive and recovery time is longer. The Vertical Banded Gastroplasty is a very similar surgery, but the stomach is stapled and the intestines are left intact.

The more extreme of the weight loss surgeries is called the Biliopancreatic Diversion. During this surgery, about three-fourths of the stomach is completely removed and the rest of the stomach is connected to the final segment of the small intestines.

There are several disadvantages to this approach including having a higher mortality rate; the dumping syndrome, more invasive and can lead to life long bone density loss and anemia. The advantages to this weight loss surgery are that it allows for larger meals and it presents patients with the greatest amount of initial weight loss. <bio>Visit http://www.Medopedia.com for information about adjustable gastric banding surgery. </bio>

While the old fashioned route to weight loss will include the use of strict diets and exercise there is another method which is available for people who are morbidly obese. This route is called weight reduction surgery. There are many different surgical procedures which fall under this umbrella. You will find that one of these is called mini gastric bypass surgery.

Of the many different weight reduction surgeries that are possible you will find that mini gastric bypass surgery is considered as being one of the better ones to have. The reason for this is because of the least amount of surgical invasion which occurs. This statement simply means that instead of having a large cut performed on the stomach the surgeon will make a small incision.

With the aid of an instrument called a laparoscope the surgeon will see where the mini gastric bypass surgery needs to be performed. The laparoscope will show via the attached camera the walls of the stomach. This allows the surgeon to staple the entire stomach into the shape of a narrow tube. This tubular stomach is then attached to a part of the small intestines.

In order to make the mini gastric bypass surgery more effective the tubular stomach is attached to the small intestines about six feet from the original starting point. This allows the stomach to bypass the part of the small intestine where usually most of the food is digested and absorbed into the body.

The theory behind the mini gastric bypass surgery is that by creating a smaller space for food you have the ability of reducing your weight. The added benefit of the stomach being placed six feet from the starting point of the small intestines is that most of the calories and fats will not become absorbed into your system.

The other benefits which can be found with having a mini gastric bypass surgery performed is that it is less expensive than the traditional weight reduction surgeries. Besides this you will find that a mini gastric bypass also provides you with the opportunity of having this operation reversed if it is necessary.

In general the entire mini gastric bypass procedure will take about 30 minutes. The time that you need to spend recovering from the surgery in hospital is about 24 hours. These are some of the benefits which patients of mini gastric bypass surgery experience. It is for these reasons mainly that mini gastric bypass surgeries are now becoming the favorite option for weight reduction surgery. <bio>Author's Sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pregnancy_weight_loss/index.html , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_vaginal_infections.html </bio>

It's a messy problem, but if you own horses long enough, you'll eventually have to deal with it: diarrhea. Your horse can get it for many reasons. But did you know a major cause of horse diarrhea is poor dental care? It's true. Here's why. And what you can do to help prevent this smelly problem...

Your horse's digestive system was designed to take frequent meals in very small amounts. That's why horses in the wild seldom get diarrhea. They graze on whatever forage they find on the open range. And they grind it up into fine particles, form it into a ball (called a 'bolus'). Then they coat it with saliva before sending it to their stomachs for digestion.

But if your horse has bad teeth, he can't grind his food finely enough. So when it finally arrives in his intestines, it can't just slide on through. Instead, it irritates the walls of his intestines, causing a low grade inflammation. And inflammed intestines equals horse diarrhea.

That's why you see so many older horses coming down with the runs. They've ground their teeth down so much over the years that they can't digest their food like they used to.

So if you suspect this to be your horse's problem, what should you do?

Call your equine veterinarian. In order to graduate from vet school, he/she has to pass examinations not only on horse medicine, but also horse dentistry. The most routine horse dental procedure your vet performs is called floating.

When you vet floats your horse's teeth, he essentially does 2 things. First, he files off the sharp enamel points from the outer edges of the upper cheek teeth. Then he files off the inner edges of the lower cheek teeth.

The result is better contact between the upper and lower teeth when your horse chews his food. If he has better tooth contact, he'll be able to grind his food into finer particles. The finer he grinds his food, the less chance he'll have to irritate his intestines.

And that greatly decreases your chances of having a really smelly mess to clean up.

We'll talk more about horse dental floating in future articles, so keep your feed reader pointed at Horse IQ. So have a good ride, and I'll see you next time.

Yours For Better Horse Health,

Sierra Lynch <bio>Sierra Lynch makes it easy to keep your horse healthy and happy.
You probably already know that Crohn's disease is different for everyone, and not everyone has a severe case. However, all sufferers have to watch out for Crohn s symptoms when they think they are in remission so that they know when they need to seek active treatment again.

Remission is possible for almost every patient, but because there is no known cure for crohn's it is unlikely to last forever. If you aren't adept at spotting your symptoms early, you should talk to your doctor about what to look for, and when you should come in to see them for more evaluation and possible treatment.

The main symptom of Crohn's is the inflammation, but because this happens internally, it is not really something you will notice right away. You will know something is going on when associated symptoms appear. These early symptoms often start with bloating and discomfort in the abdominal area. You will also probably start to have loose stools, and cramping will occur most noticeably in the stomach and intestines. Vomiting can happen as a result of the nausea caused by the cramping, but that is not quite as common.

You may already know how to handle these symptoms, and even though they are not comfortable, you can probably live with them for the most part. You may not even have to see your doctor at that point, but you should ask your doctor at what point they want you to come in to see them.

When Crohn s symptoms get worse, however, you do have to go in as soon as you can. You may notice that there is blood in your stool and that the pain is much worse. This can mean a few different things. Commonly, it's the result of small fissures (or tears) somewhere in the digestive tract, or that there is an abscess. There are times when fistulas might form, and those can carry infection to the rest of your body. Surgical intervention may be required to repair the damage caused by fistulas.

When you begin to notice bloating and pain in the intestines, you may also be experiencing fatigue and be feeling very weak. This might also accompany weight loss. When unexplained weight loss occurs it signals your body is struggling to take the nutrients it needs from your food and that there is a problem that needs to be corrected very quickly. In extreme cases, you might need IV fluids, and antibiotics. Your doctor will need to see you to make sure you are still healthy, and possibly to adjust your medications. They may also want to be sure there are no blockages effecting the intestines that needs to be corrected.

It might take you a little while, but you will soon learn to know which Crohn s symptoms you need to worry about, and which ones you can care for on your own at home. It is important that you know when you have to go in to see your doctor for additional treatment. There may be times when a simple tweak of your medications is all that you need. You'll no doubt get good at noticing when your symptoms are out of control and when you are okay, but you should always ask if in doubt. <bio>Grab your free copy of Sharon Dobson's brand new Crohn's Disease Newsletter here at http://natural-crohns-disease-relief.com?source=is which is overflowing with tips to help you understand your crohn s symptoms and the best crohn's disease and treatment options available. </bio>

The treatment for constipation will depend uponthe age of the child whether he is a small baby or a child, four or five years of age. When a baby is on breast-feeding, constipation is usually the result of wrong feeding on the part of the mother, and it must be corrected. The baby should be kept on water and orage juice for a day, and small enema of warm water given. In the alternative, a glycerine suppository may be applied. Laxative should be avoided as far as possible. Also if the baby is artifically fed, the cause is wrong feeding, and this should be rectified.

For a chld of two years or more, an all-fruit diet for two or three days and the adoption of a sensible diet formula thereafter, according to the chld's age, will soon cure the condition. On no account should purgatives be given. A small warm-water enema should be given daily while the child is on all -fruit diet, and the older child should be encouraged to take plenty of exercise. A little olive oil, given preferably with the salad meal, will help.

The most important factor in curing constipation is a natural and simple diet. This should consist of unrefined foods such as whole grain cereals, bran, honey, molasses and lentils ; green and leafy vegetables, especially spinach, french beans, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, pumpkin, beets and carrot ; fresh fruits, especially pears, grapes, figs, papaya, mangoes, gosseberries, guava and orange ; dry fruits such as figs, raisins, apricots and dates ; milk products in the form of butter, ghee and cream.

Sugar and sugary foods should be avoided because sugar steals the B vitamins from the body, without which the intestines cannot function normally. Foods which result in constipation are products made of white flour, pulses, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese, flesh foods, preserves, white sugar and hard boiled eggs.

Drinking water is beneficial not only for constipation but also for cleansing of the system, diluting the blood and washing out poisons. Water should, however, not be taken with meals, as it dilutes the gastric juices essential for proper digestion. Water should be taken either half an hour before or an hour after meals.

Generally, all fruits, except banana and jackfruit, are beneficial in the treatment of constipation. Certain fruits are, however, more effective. Bael fruit is regarded as best of all laxatives. It cleans and tones up the intestines. Its regular use for two or three months throws out even the old accumulated faecal matter. It should be preferably used in its original form and before dinner. About 30 grams of the fruit will suffice for a child. Pears are regarded the next best fruit beneficial in the treatment of constipation. In ordinary cases, a medium-sized pear taken after dinner or with breakfast will have the desired effect.

Grapes have also proved highly beneficial in overcoming constipation. The combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar and organic acid in grapes make them a laxative food. Their field of action is not limited to clearing the bowel only. They also tone up the stomach and intestines and relieve the most chronic constipation. The child should take atleast 150 grams of grapes daily to achieve the desired results. When fresh grapes are not available, raising soaked in water can be used. Drinking hot water with sour lime juice and a little salt is also an effective remedy for constipation.

The child-patient may be given abdominal massage which is beneficial in the treatment of constipation. It stimulates the persitalsis of the small intestines, tones up the muscles of the abdomen walls and mechanically eliminates the contents of both large and small intestines.

For constipation accompanied by abdominal pain and tenderness, the hot fomentation is a remedy for great value and can be used with beneficial results. A cloth wrung out of hot water should be applied to the abdomen. It should be renewed every five or six minutes. Three successive application may be made at a time, while applying hot fomentation to the abdomen, the feet should be kept warm by applying hot water bottles.

They should also be encouraged to under-take outdoor games, walking, swimming and other exercises, all of which play an important role in strengthening and activating the muscles, thereby preventing constipation. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.healtharticles-lk.com , http://www.home-remedies-for-heartburn.com </bio>

For the many Americans who suffer from IBS, Irritable bowel syndrome isn't just a problem. It's a way of life. IBS refers to a condition that is characterized by the large intestine not operating in the way that it should. Not really a disease, IBS is a disorder. The interesting thing to note is that patients who suffer from IBS exhibit no abnormalities in their intestine nor have they sustained intestinal damage. That is the real mystery of the disorder.

For this reason, no clear-cut cause for IBS has ever been established. There are some observations and theories on the subject. One thing that experts do note is the fact that IBS appears to include both sensitivity and muscle spasms in the large intestine. Because of this, gas and stool move quickly through the small and large intestines. Patients suffering from IBS may notice that this condition escalates when they are suffering from great amounts of stress. When life is going smoothly, and patients are at ease, the symptoms often fade tremendously.

Patients suffering from IBS have to endure a variety of symptoms. Among these are bloating, diarrhea, sometimes constipation, lower stomach pain, and cramping. The pain that comes along with IBS isn't a constant pain. It can disappear for days or weeks even. The pain often goes away after a patient has a bowel movement.

If you are suffering from IBS, the muscles and nerves that reside in your large intestine have strong responses to outside factors such as stress. Certain foods that don't bother most people can spark stomach muscle contractions that lead to diarrhea when the food is sped through your digestive track.

An extremely common disorder, IBS affects about one in every five Americans over the age of twenty. Because of the embarrassing nature of the disorder, many people do not seek medical attention for this problem.

Depending on the severity of your disorder, it can range from annoying to life-altering. In severe cases, it can cause people to be unable to leave the house, maintain a job, or lead an active life. For this reason, it's important to seek medical attention, garner a diagnosis, and discuss treatment options.

IBS differs from other irritable bowel disorders, especially in the fact that there are no abnormalities in the intestines and no apparent cause for the episodes. A doctor makes the diagnosis mostly by evaluating your symptoms and ruling out all other possibilities. Your doctor will more than likely order a series of tests to ensure that you do not suffer from another type of irritable bowel disorder or even a more serious condition.

If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffers from IBS, take comfort in the knowledge that you are not alone. With around 20% of the population suffering from this disorder, it is nothing to be ashamed of. Talk to your doctor about methods of coping with this disorder. Don't let IBS control your life. Many patients lead normal, rich, complete lives. <bio>Susan Reynolds has an interest in IBS.
Many people suffer from the problem of flatulence, which is the act of expelling intestinal gas from the rectum. There are only two sources of gas in the gastrointestinal tract, swallowed air that enters the stomach, mostly gulped while eating or drinking, and the gas produced by bacteria present in the intestines, primarily the colon. The air that we swallow is rarely the cause of excessive flatulence. It mainly occurs due to the over-production of gas by the intestinal bacteria present in the large intestine or colon. Sometimes, flatulence is associated with some specific conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome. People who suffer from irritable bowel flatulence may also experience other symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and abnormal bowel habits such as diarrhea or constipation.

In the digestion process, the food that is not digested in the small intestine, primarily sugars and polysaccharides (e.g. starch, cellulose), is digested by the bacteria present in the large intestine. In this process, bacteria produce different gases such as hydrogen, methane, etc. Lactose, sorbitol and fructose are the main sugars that are poorly digested.

The amount of gas produced by the bacteria varies from person to person. Some people have more bacteria in their colon, which results in more production of gas. Some people have particular bacteria that produce more gas. In some people, digestion of food in the small intestines is not complete, which can also effect the levels of gas produced.

Continue reading to discover natural methods to relieve Irritable Bowel symptoms and sign up for our free newsletter.

Conditions such as lactose intolerance, and celiac disease may also result in poor digestion. Since more undigested food reaches to the bacteria in the colon, it results in more gas. Some people suffer the spreading of gas-producing bacteria from large intestine into the small intestine. Therefore, the food reaches the bacteria before its complete digestion or absorption by the small intestine, and this increased volume of undigested foods which is available to the bacteria produces more gas also.

Excessive flatulence can also be associated with eating of particular type of food. For example, eating beans can lead to excessive flatulence.

The unused gas distends the intestine. The intestinal muscles contract and push the gas further along the intestine until the gas is finally expelled. People who have constipation as the main symptom in irritable bowel syndrome experience more flatulence and generally pass more gas than those who don't.

For those with a hypersensitive intestinal tract, like those with IBS, the build up of gas can trigger other IBS symptoms.

There are a number of options available to a person with excessive flatulence, which include the identification of the foods that seem to cause the problems, and reducing the volume eaten of these foods. They can often be reintroduced slowly at a later stage.

While evaluating the problem of excessive flatulence in a person, the physician may ask the patient to count the number of times he/she passes gas for several days.

It helps in confirming the presence of excessive flatulence since the count correlates well with the total amount (volume) of gas passed. It is normal to pass gas about 20 times a day. However, it is not always easy to measure the amount of passed gas. If an individual passes gas less than 20 times a day but complains of excessive gas, the problem might be something other than excessive gas. For example, the lack of ability to control the passing of gas or the foul odor of the gas might be the main problem.

Such problems are also socially embarrassing and may prompt individuals to consult a physician. These problems are not correlated to excessive gas production or Irritable Bowel Flatulence and have different treatments. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about Irritable Bowel Flatulence at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

It's a worrying statistic that for people with crohn's three-fourths of sufferers wil have to undergo crohn's disease surgery at some point in their life. Most medical professionals will try to control Crohn's with medications and lifestyle changes before they suggest this, but there are times when it just has to be done for the sake of saving the life of the patient. When this condition strikes in the intestinal area, which it often does, there are complications that can arise that require Crohn's disease surgery, and even though it is not a cure, it can help make a patient feel much better.

Because Crohn's disease causes moderate to severe inflammation in the intestines, complications can occur. There are medications that can help with many of the symptoms, but there are times when the inflammation that is the root cause of Crohn's will reek havoc on the system as a whole, or just a small part of it. Most doctors will not rush a patient into Crohn's disease surgery unless they think it is absolutely necessary as some of the procedures are rather complicated, carry risk and can change a person's life forever.

For some crohn's sufferers there are times when the intestines become blocked. This means that foods cannot pass through the system, and the patient will become unable to absorb nutrition nor will they be able to have a bowel movement. Alternatively, abscess can occur or tears in the intestinal walls will begin to bleed. The blood will exit through the rectum, alerting the patient that something is wrong. Surgery will be necessary if the wall of the intestine is perforated, as that might mean waste is leaking into the body.

One type of surgical procedure commonly performed is strictureplasty. This is done when there is a blockage or problem in the small intestine. When the problem is minor, the surgeons look to fix the problem but if the situation has gone past the point of repair a small section of the intestine will be removed and the ends will be connected.

Occassionlly there are times when the problems in the colon are so bad that it must be removed completely. When this happens, the small intestine is rerouted though the front of the abdominal wall. This is called a proctocolectomy. The waste then leaves the body and empties into a small bag that is changed by the patient. Doctors will do everything they can to avoid the latter from happening.

If you are one of the lucky ones, you will never have to have Crohn's disease surgery, but many patients are faced with it. Though the thought of surgery is a scary one, you should take some times to think about it before you decide that you don't want to do it. Have a conversation - or many conversations - with your doctor to talk about what is bothering you and what might happen if you don't have the operation. Understanding the risks involved by not having the crohn's disease surgery can help you make a clear choice. <bio>Grab your free copy of Sharon Dobson's brand new Crohn's Disease Newsletter here http://natural-crohns-disease-relief.com?source=is which is overflowing with information and advice to help you understand when crohn's disease surgery is necessary. </bio>

Most people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome are first introduced to an anti-spasmodic drug when they are initially diagnosed. However, you could have received a low dosage of an anti-diarrhea medication or antidepressant instead.

To be honest, there are a wide variety of different prescription medications that are available for IBS symptoms. However, the effectiveness of these drugs may vary from one patient to the next.

Trying to ascertain which drug will do the trick for you is something that will more than likely have to be done through trial and error. IBS medications are symptom-specific which means that they try to reduce such symptoms as constipation, painful abdominal spasms and diarrhea. If the first IBS drug that you try does not help in symptom reduction, then go on to another option.

Currently, many IBS patients seem to be quite frustrated with the lack of reliable, safe and effective therapies that will treat their symptoms. They would definitely like to see new treatment options that would have a tremendous impact on their problem, that is, the ability to prevent symptoms. That is a tall order to fill. For the time being, it is better to take something than have nothing at all. The only thing you can do is to keep those fingers crossed for new medication therapies that may be on the horizon.

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome Pain

Antidepressants that have been found to be effective in treating IBS can be delivered to the patient in a low dosage which can raise the threshold for pain for those who suffer from painful abdominal cramps. They are also able to decrease the rate of contractions in the gastrointestinal tract. This will change the bowel function in patients such as helping those who suffer from diarrhea as well as constipation.

Why would an antidepressant such as Zoloft help IBS sufferers? The antidepressant is meant to affect the uptake of a specific neurotransmitter called serotonin which is directly involved with the development of clinical depression. This occurs in the brain. It is interesting to note that the enteric nervous system of the intestines is rich with nerves containing large amounts of serotonin. Approximately 95% of all of the serotonin in a person's body is not found in the brain but in the intestines. Therefore, the effect of an antidepressant such as Zoloft on the brain is also felt in the intestines as well.

It is important to take note of the fact that the dosage of antidepressants used for IBS is a good deal lower than when it is used to treat depression. The doctor who is prescribing an antidepressant such as Zoloft for IBS should be familiar its use for this disease as different antidepressants can cause different side effects. At times, symptoms can worsen instead of subsiding.

SSRI antidepressants such as Prozac, Paxil, Celexa and Zoloft can serve to stimulate the production of serotonin and can sometimes trigger severe IBS attacks in those patients who suffer from diarrhea. They are very helpful for those patients who suffer from constipation. You may wish to discuss with your doctor the possibility of using Zoloft for your treatment of IBS. <bio>Article written by Jessica Bradbury, she has a site dedicated to bottom line information on IBS at http://www.ibs-information.com </bio>

Melena is the number one cause of dog health problems bloody stool issues. Melena and hematochezia cause the dog to have bloody stool. Melena is blood that the dog digested, and looks dark in color. Hematochezia is considered fresh blood in the stool and is considered minor compared to melena. Many health reasons result in a bloody stool and most tests by a veterinarian will confirm the problem.

This health problem causes a lack of energy and sometimes incontinence, as accidents happen due to the inability to move outdoors quickly. By restricting food, the dog will eventually stop the diarrhea and give the intestines time to heal. If the diarrhea results from infection or parasite, the problem will persist until proper medical is received. This condition affects all sizes and breeds of dogs no matter what you do to prevent it.

Causes of Dog Health Problems Bloody Stool Issues

Medications, infections, cancer and foreign objects digested by the dog. A metabolic disorder or hemorrhagic gastro enteritis may cause a dog to have a bloody stool. Some heavy metal or blood ingestion and gastrointetestinal ischemia are all causes of melena in dogs. Metabolic diseases cause ulcers of the stomach or intestines and can result from many different causes. If your dog health problems bloody stool issues arise with such signs as pale gums, frequent urination and thirst, lack of appetite and weight loss are all signs of problems along with dark black stools. For more inf see http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/dogbreedhealth/Pomeranian.html on pomeranian dog health.

If the dog continues to have diarrhea for more than twenty-four hours, medical treatment is required. The first thing you can try is a bland diet of rice and potato instead of their regular food. This may help, but in case it does not, you may need to have a veterinarian determine the cause.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Dog Melena

When you notice black or dark colored stools, you need to contact the vet for further tests. These tests will include urinalysis, a biochemical work up, stool sample diagnosis, blood work up, ultrasound and chest/abdominal x-rays. After these tests are concluded, the vet will determine the exact cause of the dog health problems bloody stool issues and discuss treatment with you.

If the dog does not have a severe health condition, they may be treated at home instead of an overnight stay at an animal clinic. A special diet of a bland diet that is specified by the vet and any medications prescribed by the veterinarian need to be dealt with at home in order to treat the dog health problem bloody stool issues. In most cases, medications are needed to block stomach acids and coat the intestines. If you do not see any improvement, you need to contact the vet for further treatments. .

Get treatment for your dog if this problem persists and stick to a strict diet and medication schedule for proper treatment of a sick dog. The dog will need plenty of rest and a calm environment in order to heal and come back to health. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/dogbreedhealth/boxer.html on Boxer dog health and http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/doghealthproblems/large-dogs.html on large dog health issues. http://AboutDogHealth.org is a comprehensive resource to help dog owners identify their dog's illness. </bio>

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder. It is a disrupting condition in which sufferers usually experience gastrointestinal discomfort and bowel habit variability. Although, info on irritable bowel syndrome shows that the symptoms are extensive and reminiscent to other gastrointestinal disorders, it can be diagnosed by eliminating other conditions that have similar signs, and investigating the patient's history and physical symptoms.

Aside from the main symptoms of abdominal pain and bowel habit changes, there are also other symptoms, which present themselves with irritable bowel syndrome.

Some of these symptoms include abdominal bloating or gassiness, presence of mucus in the stool and a feeling of not having been completely emptied after a bowel movement.

Bowel habit alterations are either predominately diarrhea or constipation depending on the variety of muscle contractions in the intestines. Although, some people can alternate between diarrhea and constipation.

The disorder is long-term in nature but is manageable and can be treatable, and the condition causes no physical changes or damage to the Gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Even in children, if they have IBS, there has been seen to be no effect on their development or growth.

The exact cause or trigger for IBS is still unknown. One explanation is that it may be caused by faulty communication between the brain and the intestinal tract, which causes muscle contractions thereby altering the digestive process presenting the symptoms of abdominal cramping and inconsistent bowel movement.

Neurotransmitters can be seen as chemicals in the brain that act as information carriers to the rest of the body. It is thought that with some IBS sufferers certain elements and hormones throughout the body may have been altered or inappropriately produced due to stress, sudden hormonal changes or immunological response.

These interactions between the neurotransmitters and the intestines may adversely affect the signals in the digestive system and so cause muscle spasms and contractions in the intestines. As spasms and contractions intensify, it can lead to the common symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Some theories suggest that irritable bowel syndrome stems from the presence of a previous disease, virus or condition.

Continue reading to discover how you can sign up for our free newsletter and find out what really works to relieve IBS.

IBS itself can not be the cause of other graver illnesses like inflammatory bowel disease, appendicitis or ovarian cancer.

Studies have shown that those with IBS seem to have hypersensitive intestines which react more powerfully and frequently to stimuli. Pain or cramping is usually the most common symptom as nerve endings in the gastrointestinal tract are often irritated.

There are speculations whether food allergies trigger irritable bowel syndrome. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to try a hypoallergenic diet and keep a food diary to gather as much info on irritable bowel syndrome, and the foods that may trigger your condition as possible. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about info on irritable bowel syndrome at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

Insufficient time to go to toilet when there is the urge to pass motion.

4. Insufficient exercise to help the intestine to move especially after meals, common in sedentary jobs and older people

5. Stress cause the constriction of the anal sphincter preventing the stools from passing.

6. Depression on the other hand depress the movement of the intestines.

7. Drugs like cough mixture containing codeine, antispasmodic, antacids may also reduce the motility of the intestine.

8. Pregnancy in the later stage cause the womb to press against the intestine.

9. People with low thyroid hormone slows down the movement of the intestines.

10. People with piles or pelvic space occupying swelling which may press against the intestine or rectum.

How to avoid Constipation?

Avoidance of constipation include:

1. Increase in daily fibre intake to at least 15gm (eg. 1 bowl of bran cereal for breakfast), fruits and vegetables).

Fibre increases the bulk of the stool allowing easy passage of stools through the large intestine.

2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day (2 litres). Water reduces the hardness of stools.

3. Regular exercises at least 2-3 times a day especially after meals. Exercise will enhance intestinal movement.

4. Allow a distraction free period of 15 min a day for bowel movement. The strongest intestinal movement occurs after breakfast.

5. Do not ignore or suppress the urge to pass bowel movement. This may impair the sensation to detect initiation of bowel movement leading to constipation.

How to treat Constipation?

1. Follow the advice above.

2. Consult your family doctor to exclude any abdominal swelling which may be blocking the passage of stools.

A colonoscopy may be needed to check the large intestines for tumours or early cancer. Your piles may be removed during the colonoscopy if found to be obstructing passage of stools.

3. Try Yogurt or fermented milk with lactobacillus as a method to stimulate more production of bulk in stools.

4. Try not to take laxatives unless it is deemed necessary by your doctor. Most doctors preferred not to use medicine in combating constipation.

5. Learn to relax the anal sphincter by doing some pelvic exercises <bio>Kenneth Kee email: kwk481@gmail.com website: http://www.kennethkee.com http://kennethkee.blogspot.com http://dotkee.110mb.com http://mirage800.110mb.com http://success.myweb.io http://mirage.myweb.io Profile: A newbie to world of internet marketing.
You've been through endless diet regimes, exercised regularly, and sometimes even gone overboard in the hope of losing weight=85and you are still 100 pounds overweight! Maybe it's time to consider Gastric Bypass Surgery, which is a surgery that limits the amount of food you can take in.

Gastric bypass surgery is a surgical procedure to treat extreme obesity, caused by severe accumulation of excess weight as fatty tissue, which causes other health problems too. As part of the surgery, the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger, lower remaining pouch. Furthermore, the small intestines are also re-arranged to allow both pouches to remain connected to the intestines. In this way, the food intake decreases and the amount of food you can digest is also restricted.

There are two types of surgery. One is called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass which is the most common bypass procedure performed. By this, a small stomach pouch is created by stapling part of the stomach together; limiting the amount of food you can eat. Next, a section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow the food to bypass into the duodenum. This causes reduced calorie and nutrient absorption.

The second type is called Extensive Gastric Bypass, which is more complicated, as the lower portion of the stomach is removed. The remaining small pouch is connected directly to the segment of the small intestine. While this procedure is very effective in promoting weight loss, it is less used because of the high risk for nutritional deficiencies.

People who have gastric bypass operations have been known to lose around two thirds of their excess weight within two years. However, there are several risks such as having the stomach getting bigger over time and then reverting to its original size before surgery. Sometimes the staples that are used to tighten the stomach can break and reverse the procedure. Additionally, there can also be a leakage of the stomach contents into the abdomen. This is dangerous because the acid can eat away at other organs. Nutritional deficiencies can also cause further health problems such as anemia, osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases; a result of limited absorption of vitamin B12, calcium and iron, and people then have to take nutritional supplements to prevent these deficiencies.

The risk of complications and nutritional deficiencies depends on how extensive the bypass operation is, and requires close monitoring and lifelong use of special foods and medications.

In some cases, post-operative symptoms could include nausea, fainting, weakness, sweating and sometimes diarrhea. Gallstones can also occur as a result of rapid weight loss, although they can be treated with medication.

While weight reduction surgery doesn't guarantee that you will lose all your excess weight or keep it off long-term, a lot depends on your commitment to making life long changes to your eating and exercise habits. However, your weight loss accomplishment and improved overall health are significant benefits, and will definitely be worth the effort. <bio>Further information about Gastric Bypass Surgery can be found at: http://www.gastric-bypass-notes.info/ and http://www.ultimate-gastric-bypass.info/ </bio>

Minerals are the movers of the bodies electricity and the electromagnetic forces in the body. The body needs minerals coming in a continuous stream to charge the body . As soon as you swallow food it begins to get broken down into molecules and compounds which are then able to pass through the small intestines and irrigated into the bloodstream. Osmosis is the termed used to define the movement of homologous (chemical composition of digested food) from inside the digestive tube to outside the tube. The stream of food chemicals can only take place if there is proper MINERALS available. Lack of mineral absorption can lead to decline in mental and physical health. The first sign being exhaustion and fatigue. The small intestines is the organ is of assimilation. Every cell of the small intestines need minerals to perform osmosis. The mineral is extracted from the food it exerts a pressure. This varies with the mineral involved. A lack of minerals leads to imbalance in this delicate operation in the bowels. Minerals are converted to organic salts and when these organic salts dissolve in the body fluids. These body fluids are water and blood. The organic salts break up to become ions. Ions get dissolved and are the magnetic property of electricity. There are positive and negative ions.

Minerals are a sophisticated but simply put they are the electricity transfer mechanism in the nervous system.

Without them you have no get and go. Without them you have no get and go.

Minerals are a key player in maintaining balance in acid base ratio.Every food burns down to either acid ash or alkaline ash .

The pitutary gland is the organ in the brain that regulates the balance between acid and base. Minerals are the link that helps the pituitary balance the acid and the base. Look for Dr. Helen Thomas' series: Remarkable Minerals to learn about Florine, Manganese, Silicon,Copper , Iodine, and Zinc. Blood is the carrier of nutrients and nourishment . Blood is the stream of body fluid that carrys all vitamin, and minerals to every organ in the body. The mineral iron is required to carry oxygen to all parts of the body in the form of hemoglobin. Minerals taken in the form of liquid are a simple quick charge for the body.

Apples, almonds, apricots, bananas, coconut, grapes, lemons, pineapples, raisins, raspberries, pears, are alkaline foods and help minerals to do their nerve transfer work. Excess salt, coffee, white sugar, white flour interfere with mineral activity in a healthy person.Acid minerals are iodine, phosphorous, sulfur, silicon, chlorine and as essential as alkaline minerals. Alkaline minerals are potassium, manganese, iron, sodium calcium. We need to eat 70% alkaline and 30 % acid food.

Time is the most precious commodity we own today. there are so many incredible ways we can interact with life and having a body that is nourished with minerals is the greatest time giver there is. Without minerals you slow down to a gradual crawl without even understanding that little by little you have been losing your charge.

2007 =A9 Copyright Dr.Helen Thomas D.C.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal (GI) track disorder. It is a common condition that is unfortunately poorly understood. You may find many people experiencing a symptom for irritable bowel syndrome but having little knowledge about it, and of course just because a person has one symptom of IBS it does not mean they have the condition.

IBS is a formally diagnosed condition, and a person will need to undergo various tests to ensure that they do not have another, potentially more serious condition that is causing the symptoms.

People who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome may experience abdominal pain, bloating, gas, altered bowel habits such as urgency to defecate, constipation, diarrhea or alternating between constipation and diarrhea. However, no structural or pathologic abnormalities are found in the intestines with IBS.

Continue reading to discover natural methods to relieve IBS symptoms and sign up for our free newsletter.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder of the intestines. The symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome differ from individual to individual.

Some people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome complain of infrequent bowel movements while others experience frequent loose stools. Some People feel crampy urges to defecate but find themselves unable to do so. They either cannot eliminate stools or are able to eliminate only a small amount.

For those that experience diarrhea it can effect their home and work life, as the need to go to the bathroom can sometimes some on at unexpected times (although mostly after meals).

Many patients' experience alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhea and symptoms can subside for few months and then return while some people report a constant worsening of symptoms over time.

Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome match with a number of gastrointestinal conditions and diseases. Therefore a physician has to rule out a number of conditions before diagnosing irritable bowel syndrome.

Irritable bowel syndrome is not an inflammatory bowel disease. No inflammation of any internal organ occurs with irritable bowel syndrome. However, some studies have shown that irritable bowel syndrome occurs more with some pain disorders, such as fibromyalgia, temporomandibular joint dysfunction and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Some studies have proved that the main cause of irritable bowel syndrome are hypersensitivity and increased motor reactivity in the large intestine, often triggered by diet and stress.

In IBS sufferers the digestive track rhythm is more rapid and irregular compared to a person who does not have the condition. The muscles of the bowel wall go into spasm and hinder the movement of digested food. This leads to constipation, diarrhea, or both.

Sometimes, specific foods, allergies, diet and stress can trigger irritable bowel syndrome flare-ups. The hypersensitivity is also the basis of abdominal pain/discomfort in a patient.

There also seems to be a link between IBS and anxiety, with one study suggesting that approximately 60% of the people studied with IBS also has one or more psychological disorders like anxiety or depression. I is not known if the IBS leads to the psychological disorders or vice versa.

To diagnosis irritable bowel syndrome, the physician needs to rule out other possible conditions. Generally, physician take a detail medical history and will perform a physical exam to see if there is any damage to intestines and may suggest further laboratory tests to look for the presence of blood, bacteria, and parasites in feces.

After the physical exam and other laboratory tests, if the physician finds no sign of any other disease, he may diagnose irritable bowel syndrome. For treatment, physician may recommend dietary changes or medications depending on the symptoms.

If you are also experiencing a symptom for irritable bowel syndrome, you should consult a physician to identify the cause before looking to self-treat your symptoms. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about Symptoms for Irritable Bowel Syndrome at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

Probiotics are a popular dietary supplement that includes microorganisms that are beneficial to the human body. They have shown to be important to sufferers of Candida by helping to repopulate the "good" bacteria in the intestines that help to keep Candida under control. They help the body make many vitamins, such as bioten, vitamin B-6, folic acid and niacin. They aid the body in digestion and help to combat vaginal yeast infections in women.

Probiotics also have been shown to help tip the acid balance by secreting lactic acid and acetic acid in the intestines and vagina, helping to deprive harmful bacteria of the nutrients they need to flourish. The 'good' bacteria in the body make enzymes that are key to fighting an overgrowth of Candida in the body. Probiotics should be taken with a meal.

The bacteria that lives in the colon serves a vital function for the human body. Not only are they the bodies scavengers, helping to absorb any last nutrients that the intestines left behind, they also help to attack any evil bacteria lurking in the body and looking to make us sick. The main use of Probiotics is to help put the body back on an even keel, due to an outbreak of Candida, or other reasons, such as a poor, nutrient-lacking diet or even an overuse of antibiotics.

Probiotic treatment has been linked to a decrease in the likelihood of colon cancer since the micro organisms release compounds that are known to kill some yeasts, viruses and bacteria.

Probiotic treatment is even prescribed for sufferers of urinary tract infections and vaginitis. The possible benefits of probiotic treatment is only now being researched fully and more should become known over the coming years.

Live yogurt is the best known probiotic therapy. Women have known for years that the best way to stave off yeast infections after taking antibiotics is to enjoy a cup of yogurt, but the health benefits of this snack favourite may be wider than previously thought. Yogurt is cultured with the same sort of bacteria that live in your stomach and intestines and helps protect against the growth of Candida. Adding yogurt to your diet or to the diet of a child has shown to lessen intestinal and vaginal problems, diarrhea and Candida yeast growth. It is also thought that it helps with immune system health.

For Candida sufferers who are starting out with Probiotic treatment, be prepared for a few days of gastronomical problems. Increased abdominal pain, diarrhea and flatulence are common as the body gets itself back on an even keel.

This is still a very controversial treatment, since the connection between Candida and antibiotics killing off too much beneficial bacteria in the intestine hasn't been proven. Do not begin any supplement program without first consulting a doctor. Probiotic treatment for Candida has many ardent followers, but the sneaky thing about Candida is that one treatment that works for one person will not necessarily work for all. Keeping a diary of your symptoms is an excellent way to see what treatment is working for your own Candida symptoms and what isn't. <bio>Jane Symms has an interest in Candida.
Canines have the ability to consume large quantities of food at one time and can rest between meals. In the wild, this is known as andquot;gorging, andquot; which is beneficial in hunting large game. Canines, like carnivores, can devour large meals after a hunt, and, thanks to the digestive function, can then leisurely wait until the next meal opportunity arises.

To keep your canine's gastrointestinal system functioning at its finest, a healthy, well-balanced diet is of the essence. The quality of the diet can be measured in its ease of digestion. Large, malodorous stool is a reliable indicator that something is amiss in the digestive tract -- and the food going into it would be the most likely perpetrator.

Your canine's digestive system is an impressive, powerful function of the mouth, stomach, small and large intestines, aided by the liver and pancreas.

Digestion begins in the mouth, where saliva lubricates the food and passes it down the esophagus. The canine's teeth -- sharp, jagged, blade-shaped molars -- are designed for gripping, tearing and shredding, and are specifically suited for its digestive capabilities. Other mammals have flat molars, characteristic of grinding. The canine's jaws, however, are incapable of moving sideways, and instead are hinged. This allows them to open widely and ingest large chunks of meat whole.

Swallowed food passes down the esophagus to the stomach. The stomach of a canine is very acidic with a pH registering as low as 1. Food is well mixed and broken down before contents leave the stomach as chyme.

Chyme is the fluid that passes easily into the small intestine, where the pancreas and liver provide additional digestive enzymes. These enzymes continue protein digestion and also provide carbohydrate and fat digestion. Nutrients are absorbed from the small intestine into the bloodstream.

By the time any food reaches the large intestine, most of the nutrients have been processed and absorbed. It is here that water and electrolytes are assimilated and bacteria can break down undigested fiber. The wastes are then excreted.

Understandably, large amounts of vegetation, grains and fiber are difficult for canines to process. With their short and simple digestive tracts, they are incapable of fermenting and absorbing these foods like an herbivore would. High-grain, high-fiber diets, then, only result in a much larger stool volume. The canine has a short digestive tract that helps to easily digest animal flesh and fat. The food spends a much longer time in the stomach, which produces a higher amount of hydrochloric acid, and aids in the breakdown of animal proteins, bones and fat.

Digestive issues are one health concern your canine need never suffer, as the solution is right at your fingertips, and completely within your discretion. One of the more widely accepted ways is herbal cleansing. Herbs are often more gentler on your system and intestines because they are all natural, also they have a unique and powerful way to travel your intestine and flush out anything that should not be there.

Is it really that important?

Believe it or not, a recent study should that roughly 30-40% of the US population has a parasite living inside of them. A lot of this has to do with their diet which aids in keeping their system free of toxins.

The importance of Diet

Just by changing some of the foods you eat can help keep your colon in good health and keep your system clean.
