A solid roof and sturdy gutter are perhaps the top two features of any home, business or type of building. Without a roof, the rest of the structure would be right in the middle of the elements. Since a sturdy roof is what protects you from the outside, keeping the rain, sleet, snow and sun off of you and your possession, when you are choosing the roof and gutter for your building, you need to take your time and make sure you get them strong enough to stand up to what Mother Nature dishes out.

You need to make sure they will be water proof as well as fire resistant. They need to be strong and durable to handle harsh elements such as sleet, hail, as well as the sun's bright light and intense heat. As most roofs that are installed today are dark in color, which makes them get hotter with the suns light then say a light concrete sidewalk. Heat can play a major role in breaking down the materials that hold a roof together.

There are many different materials and styles of gutters and roofs that you can choose from. Materials such as: slate, asphalt, metal or even concrete tiles can be used for your roof.

You can also add optional items such as a chimney to help take the heat from the inside out. Gutters have become a standard part of roofing as they help to protect the roof from water damage from water or snow that can collect and sit on top of the roof.

One of the top choices in roofing material you may see is slate. Slate is both attractive and it is very long lasting. This is also one of the best fire resistant choices on the market today. If you choose a slate roof, be prepared to pay a higher price as they are harder to install.

If you opt for a concrete roof, then you will have the option to have the roof molded to what ever size or shape you need it to be. The downfall of a concrete roof is that it can be damaged by hail and snow. Hence these types of roofs are best used in areas that are not likely to have hail.

So if you are planning on installing a roof and gutter to your home or business, then make sure you do a bit of homework. You want to make sure you get the roof that is right for your needs as well as one that is within your personal budget.

For more information about roofs and gutters, visit: http://www.tipsongutters.com . <bio>For more info and a free newsletter visit: http://myhomeimprovementtips.com .
Each year, exposure to cold, vehicle accidents caused by wintry roads, and fires caused by the improper use of heaters injure and kill hundreds of people in the United States. Add these to other winter weather hazards and you have a significant threat to human health and safety.

Winter storms can range from a moderate snow over a few hours to a blizzard with blinding, wind-driven snow that lasts for several days. Some winter storms are large enough to affect several states, while others affect only a single community. Many winter storms are accompanied by dangerously low temperatures and sometimes by strong winds, icing, sleet, and freezing rain.

How to Protect Yourself in Winter Storms

Winter storms are considered deceptive killers because most winter storm deaths are related only indirectly to the storms. Overall, most winter storm deaths result from vehicle or other transportation accidents caused by ice and snow. You should avoid driving when conditions include sleet, freezing rain or drizzle, snow, or dense fog. These are serious conditions, that are often underestimated, and they make driving and even walking outside very hazardous.

Make an Emergency Disaster Preparedness Plan with you family and review it every six months. Each member of the family should know what to do in case of an emergency, know where Survival Kits are kept and know how evacuate or shelter in place as the situation dictates.

If, you are evacuated go to a designated public shelter. Take any Emergency Disaster Preparedness supplies that you have with you so that you have enough food and water to last for at least 72 hours.

For information on designated shelters, contact your local emergency management office or American Red Cross chapter.

Don't Forget Those with Special Needs

You must not forget those with special needs such as infants and seniors and those unable to care for themselves. If someone on your list has physical needs and you may be unable to check on this person, appoint someone to check on them and report to you their status and condition.

Make sure that anyone with special needs has the items they would normally need to survive, such as adult/infant diapers, medical supplies, special foods and/or medications. If there is anyone that needs electricity to survive, like a respirator, be prepared with an alternative source such as a power generator. Also, it is a good idea to notify your local fire department (via a non-emergency business telephone number) in advance of this person's needs. They will do everything in their power to commit resources to this type of special need. Anyone with special needs or a disability should wear a medical alert tag or bracelet to help identify their individual situation.

Don't Forget a Plan for Your Pets

Due to health regulations, most emergency shelters cannot house animals. Find out in advance how to care for your pets and working animals when disaster or emergency strikes. You should not leave your pets behind. For more information, visit the Animal Safety section on www.redcross.org or visit the Humane Society Web site at www.hsus.org.

Preparing in advance will help you make informed decisions in the event of inclement weather, a disaster or an emergency. So make a disaster plan today and get prepared to survive. <bio>http://www.survivalkitsonline.com has a complete line of Emergency Disaster Preparedness kits and supplies that are safe, reliable and affordable.
Who in this world wouldn't want his/her material assets to last long? Of course we all do. And if your air conditioner goes faulty, you may have to incur a high cost for its repair. So it's always better to maintain it to help it last longer. That way, you will be able to save up a lot of your finances throughout life.

To help you keep your air conditioner running smooth and trouble-free, here are some tips which you may follow:

1. Keep an eye on the hoses to check if there are any leaks on them. Do this at least twice a year--once before you start using it for the summer months and another when you stop using it with the coming of winter. These are the best times to check leaks and in case you spot any, you can repair it right away before it gets worse.

2. Keep the compressor always clean. It is the most valuable part of the air conditioning unit and costs a lot to replace. And of course, it catches dirt in all the pollution around. So a little bit of spray cleaning of the compressor can ensure a longer life for it.

3. Every two years, call a professional to clean the ductworks for your air conditioner. This is not anything great or hard, nor a must. But keeping them clean assures better life for the whole machine.

4. The compressor should be kept covered when not in use, especially in the winter season. It must always be well-protected from harsh snows or sleet or rains. Some companies have their own compressor covers for the unit. So ask for one when you are buying your air conditioner. These covers are easy-to-fit and hassle-free. But if you don't get such covers, manage on your own. But protect the compressor always.

These simple do-it-yourself maintenance steps should ideally be followed by every owner of an air conditioner if he/she wants the machine to last longer and better. <bio>Lawrence Heller is and author and air conditioner technician.
A roof does a lot for your home. It keeps you warm or cool and it keeps you protected from the elements. It also can add to the looks of your home. Read this article to learn about some of the different types of roofs available to you

One popular style of roof is the slate roof. Slate proofs are very attractive in appearance and offer excellent protection from fire. They are also a unique roof and provide for a long roof life. They do have some disadvantages though. They are extremely expensive and are much harder to install since they require extensive structures to support the weight. You also can not walk on the roof without risking damage to the tiles. If you can do it though, nothing looks like a slate roof.

Another popular option is a metal roof. Metal roofs are also durable and offer a long life. They are also resistant to sleet and hail and when made from recycled metal they are very environmentally sound. They are however more expensive to install requiring special tools and skills. Some people might also object to the sound of a metal roof since they may be louder in the rain.

The last option I will talk about is the concrete tile roof. They are similar to slate roofs but are much cheaper. They are an attractive roof available in a number of different styles and colors and offer excellent fire resistance. They are still expensive however and can be damaged by hail storms. You also may not be able to use them in climates subject to heavy freezing.

I hope this article has given you some useful information on roofs. If you are looking to do something different than the basic asphalt shingle, one of these options may be for you. Good luck with whichever one you decide <bio>Visit http://www.therooferlist.com for more information on roofing and roofers. </bio>

Home owner insurance, like health insurance, is not a requirement; however, it is definitely something worth investing in. You never know when your home and your family are going to be hit with a disaster, and paying for the damages completely out of your own pocket is sometimes not financially feasible.

The best way to shop for and compare home owner insurance companies and policies is to compare different home owner insurance companies as well as the home owner insurance policies each company offers. In other words, shop around. Look for several different home owner insurance companies and compare the policies each one offers. Most basic home owner insurance policies will cover damage caused by theft, vandalism, vehicles, fire, smoke, riots, weather elements such as wind or hail, volcanic eruptions, aircrafts, and certain kinds of damage caused by the home itself such as part of the structure collapsing. Additional coverage can include damage caused by water, electricity, weather elements such as ice, sleet, or hail, and even damage caused by falling objects. Figure out whether or not the basic home owner insurance policy is going to be right for you and your home, or if you are going to need additional coverage options.

Once you have narrowed your search to a few home owner insurance companies that have policies that sound good for you and your home, start doing some research to compare home owner insurance companies and policies. There are two very direct ways to do this. First, call an agent and ask questions. Do not be afraid to be frank; this is your home and your money you are talking about, after all. Second, talk with friends, family members, or coworkers that are familiar with the home owner insurance company and/or the particular policy you are interested in. You are almost one hundred percent likely to get very honest, straight forward answers from previous, or current, policy holders. <bio>http://www.myquoteguide.com/Car-Tips.shtml http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home http://www.ezquoteguide.com/health </bio>

When most think of a stone counter top most think of a solid granite counter top but you can make your own stone counter top by using stone tile. By using stone tile you have an almost unlimited color choices and your imagination is the only limit to the design possibilities. You can use almost any type of stone tile from sleet to marble you may choose the mix and match adding an accent piece of a different stone.

Before you began as a good idea to visit not only a kitchen design store but also to a flooring store most of the stores have a display set up so that you can visualize your new kitchen counter tops the stores will also have many pictures of different kitchens these pictures can help you pick a design or to aid you in coming up with your own design.

The basic steps involved in installing a tile counter top are as follows. First you will have to remove the old counter top. The next step is to install 3/4in. plywood on top of the old cabinets this will give us a base. On top of the plywood you will need to install was called cement backer board this is readily available at any home center and is commonly used when installing tile in wet areas such as bathrooms. The cement board will need to be fastened to the plywood using thin set mortar. It is a good idea to cover and tape off the wood surfaces of your cabinets so that you do not get any mortar on them.

You are now ready to begin installing your tile but Before you began take some time and layout the tile exactly the way you want It. Make sure the design and layout is what you want And also check that you do not end up with any weird sections for example when you get to the sink area you do not want to have any small pieces of tile exposed. His also a good idea at this time to physically layout your back splash Again so that you do not end up with any small chunks of tile say at the corners.

There are a few basic tools that you'll need to install your countertop aside from common but hand tools you'll need a notch trowel for spreading the mortar you also need a way to cut the tile this can be done with either a score and snap type tile cutter for what I recommend an inexpensive water cooled tile saw. These can easily be purchased for about $100.00 for can be rented have most tool rental stores. <bio>Megan Cherry writes for http://www.pegandrail.com </bio>

Driving at any time of the year can be dangerous, but it is especially important to be careful driving in the winter. Winter driving can bring the hazards of snow, ice, freezing rain, sleet, blackouts, whiteouts, and much more. If your car breaks down at any other time of year, you've still got a good chance of being able to take care of it yourself. However, in the winter, the days are shorter, the weather is colder and it is not at all comfortable to break down in a snowstorm! There are also more ways to break down in the winter; not only can your car run out of gas, but it can also get stuck in the snow.

If you are starting to panic, just relax; there are some things you can do to prepare for car emergencies. Here the top ten items to keep in your car in case of an emergency:

Snow shovel =96 You never know when you'll get stuck in the snow, and you also never know if a good Samaritan will be around when you get stuck. Even in the summertime, cars can get stuck in the mud, and a shovel would still help in that situation.

Candle =96 Even though a candle may be a lot smaller than a car, it can still keep you and your car warm in the winter if you happen to break down or get stuck in a snow bank.

Blanket =96 If you ever break down in the winter, a blanket or sleeping bag is a very good thing to have!

Spare tire =96 Always a handy item to have when something happens to one of your car's tires.

Tools =96 It is important to carry the right kind of tools in your car to help you in case of an emergency. Tools such as a jack, ratchet, lighter

Air Compressor =96 Many stores now sell mini compressors that are just for this purpose. A lot of perfectly good tires start to lose air after a while and an air compressor is a quick fix when you are stuck on the side of the road!

Flashlight =96 This one is pretty self explanatory. You never know when something will happen, and if you happen to break down after dark, a flashlight quickly turns into a lifesaver. Without a flashlight, all the tools in the world will not help you in the dark!

Food =96 This one may sound strange, but the truth is, people get hungry, and if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere, some granola bars and bottles of water are a big help!

Cell phone =96 Nowadays, car emergencies are not as bad as they used to be, because of cell phones. As long as you have good service in the area you happen to be in, you will be just fine.

First Aid Kit =96 This is perhaps the most important thing to carry in your car =96 especially if you have children. You never know what is going to happen, and even the slightest accident can cause some injuries to you and your loved ones that can be easily remedied by a well-stocked first aid kit. <bio>A proven performer in Brisbane Australia car hire, providing it's customers with free express pickup service from many locations for personal, business or holiday car hire. http://www.discountcar.com.au/car-rental/brisbane.htm </bio>

I'm sure that most of you cannot imagine anyone leaving their dogs outside in the sleet and snow or in very hot weather with hardly any shelter but, in fact, there are many dogs facing this dilemma right now. The animal rights group PETA has come up with a program called "Angel for Animals".

Because of this wonderful program, many dogs can now find refuge in well-built doghouses through this winter and many more. PETA has gone into low-income, rundown areas and supplied hundreds of strong and sturdy doghouse. These are free of charge and help dogs who would have had to tolerate the ice and snow and cold without any shelter. But there are many more dogs that will have to go through this terrible ordeal. A perfect way to bring happiness and kindness to a poor little dog that has never known love or contentment is to participate in the "Angel for Animals doghouse sponsorship". This can make an enormous change in the life of a disadvantaged dog. There are also a lot of other organizations that are dedicated to helping dogs. You can easily look on line and find a group that you may want to get involved with.

Charles Darwin said that, "There is no fundamental difference between humans and the higher mammals in their mental faculties". We all need to have compassion for the innocent animals that do not have anyone else to speak up for them. Mahatma Gandi said that "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are treated". Animals suffer the same way that humans do, so we should all do our part and try to be aware of anything we can do to help. Children should learn to love and respect animals to ensure that the animals will be well taken care of in the future.

If you happen to observe a dog in a backyard that looks like it is in impending danger, say if the animal is very thin or looks ill or injured or either doesn't have any shelter or cannot access it, find out which agency is responsible for implementing anti-cruelty laws in your state, county, or town and then notify them of what is going on. Then let the authorities know all crucial points as to what you have observed. Give dates, locations and approximate times. Always keep documentation of everyone you get in touch with, the dates of the contacts and the subject matter and result of your conversation. Keep copies of everything for yourself.

A lot of times we may not want to get involved because we think it is none of our business. But it is the business of concerned people to speak up when living things are treated so cruelly. Every day we have the opportunity to help treat animals with love and compassion.. Even small changes will make a difference. In the long run, we will feel much better about ourselves. <bio>Maryann Mannax is a contributing writer to Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun, a new online website dedicated to man's best friend.
For your home central air conditioning system to last as long as possible, proper maintenance is a must. By caring for your unit properly, you will extend its life, keep energy costs down, and and will keep your system running at peak performance.

To keep your central air conditioner system in top-performing condition, follow these tips:

- Check all of the hoses for leaks at least twice a year. The best times to do this are before you turn on your unit for the summer season, and just before you turn it off for the winter. Make sure the condensate tube is draining freely. By checking this you will be able to catch onto any problems before they get to be too serious for repair.

- Keep the outside compressor as clean as possible. Keep it clear of tall grass and shrubs. Plantings should be at least one foot away from the entire unit for adequate airflow.

- Change the air filter monthly, particularly during the summer when dust and allergens circulate.

- Vacuum registers and air vents regularly.

- Sealing ducts will save energy and money all year round. Use mastic tape or sealer rather than plain duct tape, which will dry out and peel off over time.

- Have the ductwork professionally cleaned every few of years. This maintenance can extend the life of your air conditioner.

- During the winter months, keep the compressor covered. This you protect it from cold weather as well as harsh conditions such as snow and sleet.

- Be sure to keep furniture and drapes away from the registers.

- Raise your thermostat. Each degree of temperature can represent up to 9% savings in cooling costs.

- Keep the unit fan on "AUTO." It's not necessary to run the fan constantly when the air conditioner is not operating.

- When working around your air conditioner, be sure to shut the power off before you start.

It's also important to have your entire air conditioning system inspected by a professional service technician. A professional can measure the refrigerant to see if it needs recharging and measure the airflow over the air conditioner's cooling coils. They will also clean and inspect the motor, compressor, air handler, ducts, coils and air filter. An annual tune-up can reduce your cooling costs by five percent.

Air conditioner maintenance is important to keep your unit running properly and help save energy costs for many years to come! <bio>Wolfe Plumbing, serving the Orange County and Dutchess County air conditioning needs for over 28 Years.
Premium Adirondack furniture is a purely American invention and a preferred choice where outdoor furnishings are concerned. The furniture originated in the Adirondack mountains and quickly spread outward. Although the popularity dropped off for a while, quality Adirondack furniture is back and more popular than ever. For many, it is not a choice of whether or not to buy premium Adirondack furniture. Instead, the choice seems to boil down to what kind of wood is the best where this premium outdoor furniture is concerned: Teak or Cedar?

Because Adirondack chairs and loungers are most common on patios or in gardens, the furniture must be able to stand up to the elements. Rain, sleet, snow, and insects are common enemies of wood--so which is better--teak or cedar?

Western Red Cedar is a very popular wood with a very fine grain and beautiful natural appearance. With minimal care, Western Red Cedar wood resists moisture and decay very well. In addition, furniture made from cedar will be naturally insect repellant. The natural oils found within cedar are responsible for the weather and insect resistant properties of cedar. Western Red Cedar Adirondack furniture is a uniform color of red and brown but this will fade in time (when left outdoors) and turn into a silver/gray. Cedar is best when finished with a stain and tends to last longer with care. However, premium Adirondack furniture made from Western Red Cedar is a good choice in high moisture environments such as cottages and patios.

Teak wood is another great choice for Adirondack furniture because it, too, is naturally weather resistant. Teak wood is very high in oil and rubber concentrations which is why it is virtually impermeable to water--even untreated. Premium Adirondack furniture made from teak wood can literally be left outside for years without worry. Like Western Red Cedar, teak wood will also begin to gray with time when not treated or stained. However, unlike cedar, teak wood is very tight grained. While cedar is a soft wood, teak is very sturdy and difficult to knick and damage.

So, is the best Adirondack furniture made from teak or cedar? While teak is more weather resistant and durable, Western Red Cedar is a beautiful wood that adds a distinctive element to the furniture. In truth, both are great woods and both used to make quality Adirondack furniture. The best choice will boil down to personal taste. <bio>Jesse Akre, owner of numerous home and patio decor websites, makes it easy to find fantastic Adirondack Chairs and beautiful Adirondack Furniture . These earliest snowmobiles were used to deliver the mail through sleet and snow in the wintry Midwest area. The snowmobiles appearance and function has changed quite a bit over the years.

Today, there are a variety of reasons why people enjoy snowmobiles; recreation, remote travel, racing, as well as being used in rescue efforts. Many riders of snowmobiles also utilize their snowmobiles to gain access to wilderness areas that are too remote to be accessed by a normal motor vehicle.

Snowmobiles have become so popular that there are now specific events centered on them! There is the Snowcross Racing Series, Snowmobile Skipping Races, as well as the Grass Drags, which are held in the absence of snow, right after Labor Day in Minnesota.
St. Petersburg, Florida is a beautiful city, like many of the cities in Florida. One of the best things is the gorgeous skyline at night. If you ever see a picture of this, it will take your breath away. But nothing beats seeing it in person!

Why do people love St. Petersburg so much? The main reason is that it has more sunshine than most places in the USA. It has been reported that St. Petersburg can average up to 360 days of sunshine every year! That is a lot of sun!

So why do people want the sun? Doesn't that get boring? Apparently not! In fact, research shows that sunlight has many positive effects on our health and wellness, as well as our emotional well-being.

You may be thinking, "But what about sunburn?" Good point. Wouldn't living in St. Petersburg mean that you'd get sunburn or develop some skin condition from so much sunlight exposure? Obviously, that is a silly conclusion to draw. That skyline mentioned above would not be there if the residents hadn't believed this was a great city to live in!

The thing about sunlight is that you have to find ways to deal with it. (For northerners who long for a warm climate, this wouldn't take much arm twisting to achieve!) First of all, you limit your exposure to the sun by wearing hats, sunscreen, and staying indoors for part of the day.

Another issue that people worry about with a lot of warm weather is air conditioning bills. This is a valid concern. But think about it this way: would you rather be paying for air conditioning to keep a nice temperature inside and be able to go out into paradise every day--or would you prefer the northern states' winter months where you have sky-high heating bills and go outside only to see dreary grey skies and bone-chilling temps? Most people would not prefer the latter!

St. Petersburg is also booming with opportunity. It is the second largest metropolitan area in the state. There would be no shortage of great career choices, and endless things to do on your days off. That is, if you weren't already satisfied chilling out on the beach sipping cocktails when you get off work every day.

Although this may seem like a stretch, sunny weather also prevents the negative side effects found in areas with cold weather and precipitation. One example is the accidents that occur due to rain, sleet, snow and ice. This can hike up insurance rates and can cost you your life and health. This is not as much a worry in a place like St. Petersburg, FL.

Cold weather also puts a damper on your ability to be mobile. When there is a lot of snow, some states put out mandates to stay indoors and stay off the roads. As if it weren't hard enough when your flights get delayed!

So as you can see, the simple fact that St. Petersburg is "The Sunshine City" is reason enough to strongly consider checking it out as a destination of choice!<bio>This article brought to you by St Petersburg Tile Grout Cleaning - http://www.stpetersburggroutcleaning.info</bio>

When I started fishing for winter Steelhead a few years ago, I had nothing. Until then, I was a "fair-weather" fisherman who didn't really know what cold was. Boy did I find out fast.

I will never forget my first time out. I had just hooked up with a longtime friend of mine who I had not seen since grade school. Steve was going to teach me all about Steelhead and Salmon fishing. It was mid December, the 16th of 1999 I think. We met at Steve's house at about 5 am. All I was wearing was my jeans, T-shirt, baseball cap, regular shoes and a warm weather jacket in the car.

Steve just looked at me. "Are you nuts?" He said. "You're going to freeze." Well, I replied this is about all I have. "Don't worry about it, I'll make it. Let's go" No sooner did we get to the river I was just that, freezing. But hey, I'm stoked because I'm going to catch me a long over-due Steelhead. I remember looking at him as I was just about numb to the core and noticing he was warm as could be. It didn't take long to ask "Ok, how much is all that and where can I get it". I wasn't going to go through that kind of day ever again. By God's grace, I did catch my first ever Steelhead that day but not without paying a heavy price.

By my next trip out I managed to up my gear with a pair of waders, along with a breathable raincoat. The only thing missing was head wear. "I knew I was forgetting something." It was another cold day. It was uncomfortable, but at least not unbearable like my first time out. I had a stocking cap, so it ended up being ok.

I tell you my friends, there is nothing like the comfort of being warm. When the temperature is in the 30's with rain, snow, and sleet. (Yes, I have had all 3!). You will be glad you have the gear. Also, being warm gives you so much more of a good time.

Here is my suggested checklist when going out for a day on the river.

1. Waders. You can find these just about everywhere. Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. I recommend the breathable Simms brand G3's or G4's being the top of the line. They do run a bit high, in the price range from about $350 to $699. You can get the Rivertek Stockingfoots for $299. Rivertek is about as low as I would go for winter. You can also go with the long time stand by in Neoprene 3.5 mm. You can get into a pair of these in the price range of $80 to $200.

2. Rain coat. Another must have. Rain coats really come down to your own comfort. Personally, I need to feel loose, and agile. Therefore, I use a tighter, lighter style in Columbia. The bottom line is dry.

3. Your hat. I like the Henschel. A great, quality oil skin hat that will keep your head dry. A dry head is a warm head. I believe these run in the ballpark of $50

4. Underclothing. There are all kinds of things out there now. I use anything that is designed to keep the moisture out and the heat in. Over that I usually wear something of wool, over that my waders. This all depends on how warm or cold blooded you are. Some people like me need 3-4 layers, while others just 1 or 2. Check your local REI or Sporting goods store for these.

One last tip, get yourself a dry bag. You will not regret having an extra set of clothes for the sake of emergency. You never know when you will slip on a rock, or get plain soaked due to heavy weather. Just put your dry bag in the truck or boat. Dry bags can be purchased through Sporting goods store also. Price will depend on size, costing on average $40. <bio>Bill Long has been a long time avid Steelhead fisherman. He enjoys the sport, and spending time getting others involved too.
Now that you have graduated from your skateboarding school of hard knocks and you are ready to compete against any one who can skateboard, there are a few rules to follow. Many people do not consider skateboarding a legitimate sport. Many people associate skateboarding with teenage thugs who use skateboarding as a cover-up to smoke cigarettes. Actually, many skateboarders do the exact opposite. Many people have developed skateboarding ministries to attract young people to keep them from taking drugs or engaging themselves in premarital relationships.

In order for skateboarders to gain the respect of people and capture young people's attention on a positive note, there a few rules that must be followed.

- Do not skateboard in a mall parking lot where there are shoppers and parked cars in the midst. A person who is skateboarding is setting themselves up to receive negative stares, rolling eyes and murmurs. The best thing for a skateboarder to do is select a vacant part of the shopping mall parking lot to skateboard.

- If you live in a town or city (especially in a heavy populated area) where there are side walks...that's considered a bad location. If you are trying to skateboard around people as they walk back and forth during rush hour morning or evening, you will receive angry stares and to top it off, you might even get reprimanded or even yelled at. Remember, do not skateboard in high-traffic areas or where there are a lot of people, especially when people are rushing to go to and from school or the office.

- One pet peeve of many people are skateboarders who take public transportation such as a train while carrying their skateboard under their arms without a cover. Before traveling with your skateboard, make sure that you purchase an attractive skateboard cover. You are not only covering your skateboard so that railway passengers do not give you funny looks, you are protecting your skateboard from harmful elements such as rain, sleet, snow and etc.

- Do not assume that a vacant piece of property is abandoned or is not owned by anyone. Do not skateboard on residential or commercial private property. That's considered trespassing.

- While skateboarding do not suddenly whip out your cell phone to call a friend or answer an incoming call. Your eyes must be focused on what's ahead of you. Staring at an incoming caller can cause a skateboard to run into a sign, a pedestrian or even worst, on going traffic. If you need to answer a phone or make a phone call or make a cell phone call either stop and wait on the side where it is safest or purchase a hand-held free cell phone so that you can answer a call right away.

One way to impress people who may not be too keen on skateboarders, purchase the latest in skateboard gear. <bio>Dana Bradley writes about http://www.buyskateboardgear.com, http://www.buyskateboardgear.com/Coupons/FogDog%20Sports.html and http://www.teamlogoandgear.com </bio>

As seasons change from one to the other, gutters can clog all too quickly. With rain, wind, sleet, heavy spring and winter storms, area animals like birds building nests and scattering debris around, it's no wonder that your gutters get clogged. But now you can say, "Good bye!" to all that and clean them up yourself.

Get your gutters in shape with these tips that focus on how to get safely topside your home to clean your gutters. Please read them thoroughly before starting that climb up the ladder to your roof.

Equipment Safety

Check for equipment safety before heading up your ladder. Make sure your ladder is securely in place: the foot pads need to be snug, firmly in place with the ground and the ladder frame needs to be free of bent areas.

Also before you go up on the roof hook, you need to hook up your water hose plus check for possible leaks in the hose. Make sure any and all attachments and spray nozzles work well. You also want to make sure you have enough water pressure at full power in your line so that you can effectively clear or spray out debris from your gutters.

When possible, keep someone extra at ground level in case you need help. A ground person can help clear away kinks and knots in your water hose, for example, that could severely limit your water pressure as you move about the house top.

Clothing Safety

Check for clothing safety before heading up, too. Grab a good pair of work gloves and wear a sturdy tool belt with plenty of pockets for your tools and make sure to tie it securely around your waist.

Also check your footwear. You don't want to stub your toes or slip and fall wearing plastic flip-flops or other inappropriate work wear. Instead, opt for sturdy foot wear with laces that are tied firmly and tucked away so you won't trip and get them caught.

Tools Needed

These tools can come in handy for the job:

=95 Bucket =96 for placing debris into for disposing of later.

=95 Screwdriver or Trowel - for scooping out thick debris like mud from your gutter.

=95 Straightened Wire Hanger =96 for poking debris from or through tight areas like clogged downspouts.

=95 Adjustment Items, Coating, Seal or Flush Fixtures =96 Items like these from local hardware stores can help you apply a coating inside gutters to help flush the debris, help prevent rust and damage, and help keep out debris in the future.

Take shop around and get your safety features in check first. Extend your gutters' life and you own.

For more information about gutters, visit: http://www.tipsongutters.com <bio>For more info and a free newsletter visit: http://myhomeimprovementtips.com .
Have you ever considered using ice scrapers as a promotional tool instead of a pen or notepad as many companies do? There are so many different styles, colours shapes and uses for ice scrapers and this handy gadget is sure to be a winner next time you decide to pass out a promotional tool to your clients.

Instead of having your business name printed on a boring pen or notepad, have it printed on ice scrapers. You can be sure that the novelty of receiving something so different will be a reason in itself for many of your clients to remember you.

There are many different ice scrapers available on today's market and there can no doubt that they most definitely are a handy item to have stored in the glove box or the top kitchen draw. Even in the bathroom!

Here is an explanation of some different types of ice scrapers and how you can benefit by using them when needed. Some ice scrapers come with a handy squeegee to soak up excess moisture. Imagine standing outside in the freezing cold, scraping ice off your car. There's always left over moisture, and to have an ice scraper that you can keep handy in your glove box that also has a squeegee attached to it, could be a very handy gadget indeed. Of course, it would be great for washing down your glass shower cubicle as well as scraping the ice off your freezer.

Another style of ice scraper is one that is rectangular in shape and about the size of a credit card. It may come with a non slip thumb grip making it extremely easy to hold and can even be stored in your wallet or purse, making it a handy gadget that is instantly available!!!

A dual blade ice scraper creates a natural scraping motion and is capable of removing snow, frost or sleet easily and effectively with a minimum of fuss. For those living in colder countries such as England and Canada, during the winter months where snow falls heavily, a dual blade ice scraper could be just the thing to have within easy reach.

Maybe you prefer an ice scraper that has a more comfortable grip? Foam on the handle might be the answer for you. This scraper can once again be used to clean the windscreen and windows of your car and the auto industry just loves this style. It is bigger than the previously mentioned ice scrapers but extremely effective nonetheless.

For something really different and memorable, if you are considering using ice scrapers as this winter's promotional tool for your business, have you thought about using suede mitts as your promotional ice scraper tool? The mitts will be sure to keep your clients hands warm whilst they go about the frosty business of scraping ice off their cars. A double bonus in one!

Next time you are planning a promotional event for your business, think about the impact that you could have using a different angle like ice scrapers. They are a cost effective alternative to having your business name and company logo printed onto pens and notes. They are sure to be a hit with your clients, if only for the novel idea and alternative approach to giving them something to remember your company by.<bio>Matt Franks is director of Fluid Branding, the UK's largest supplier of Promotional Ice Scrapers and Branded Ice Scrapers at www.fluidbranding.com.
Outdoor Patio Furniture

The best way to thoroughly enjoy your patio, deck, or porch is to have comfortable outdoor patio furniture. There are many types of patio furniture available, including aluminum, wrought iron, wicker, and wooden chairs, benches, and tables. There are a few factors to consider when buying outdoor patio furniture. How long you plan to use the furniture, how often you want to move it around your lawn or garden, and how much care is required can all help determine what the best type of patio furniture is for you.

Aluminum patio furniture provides owners with a durable and lightweight option for their outside living needs. You don't need to keep your eye on the weather to know when you need to bring your tables and chairs undercover from a rain storm. Cast aluminum furniture is rustproof and can sit through rain, snow, and sleet. Therefore, outdoor aluminum furniture is a great value as it can last for many years with minimal amounts of damage.

Wooden outdoor furniture can come in a wide range of colors and finishes. Cedar outdoor patio furniture is lightweight and makes moving furniture easy. Outdoor wood furniture is strong and long lasting when properly cared for. If you plan on keeping wooden furniture exposed to the weather, staining it every one or two years will keep it from decaying.

Wicker outdoor furniture can be fit within any budget, which is only one reason many families have chosen to decorate their patio with wicker furniture. While price is certainly an advantage, it also has a unique look that comes from plant branches that are woven together to form a distinct appearance. Wicker furniture can be painted to match your house while giving your garden an elegant style. Wicker furniture should be covered when not being used and have a protective coating applied in order to make it last through sun and rain exposure.

Plastic outdoor furniture has the benefit of presenting a cheaper option for those that can't afford more expensive patio furniture sets. There are many styles today that have been developed to make plastic furniture look like highly desired wicker, metal, or wooden furniture. Plastic is easy to clean and also weighs less which makes it easy to bring indoors when it isn't in use.

Modern patio chairs, tables, and benches are made to look more like indoor furniture while still having the capabilities of surviving the outdoor elements. Modern outdoor furniture often uses wood, metal, and rattan materials and has grown in popularity because it can be made to match your home while also taking into consideration the surrounding landscape.

Outdoor patio cushions give owners an even more comfortable sitting area on their favorite outdoor furniture sets. Cushions come in many colors and designs that allow you to pick and choose what matches your garden the best and gives you the level of comfort you desire. Replacement patio cushions are made in different sizes and shapes so you can find which one perfectly fits your patio furniture. For outdoor cushions to last, they should be cleaned and stored between uses.<bio>Visionmasters.com.
Yes, I'm a pretty good driver. In fact I grew up in a town where cars--hot rods and trucks and the like--were respected, if not revered. I had undergone my training in a driver education program at a high school that had the knowledge of wintry weather and expected the need for definite driving skills that surpassed those persons living in sunny states.. perhaps for instance driving on ice, snow, sleet etc.

In spite of being quick and hyper-alert, though I love to drive a good fast car, in all my driving years (which equals about thirty-one years); I have only had three traffic violations: the first one was when I was 16 years I had got a speeding ticket, trying to beat curfew; the second one for a no seat belt ticket, when I was pulled over because a headlamp was out; and got a red light violation one night when I much aware but wanted to get home after working continuously all day and all night at a college an hour and a half away from where I lived.

But alas last week, having just relocated to a new town only recently- in the last few months- I got pulled over yet again for speeding. For sure, I was a bit startled, personally I feel I was not speeding, but was doing 44 in a part of town where, I have since studied, the signs go from 35 to 25 to 35 to 25 (in one spot TWO SIGNS, one for 35 AND one for 25 are together?????)...almost like a speed trap set-up, if you ask me.

To my good luck, the officer was not only a cool chap, but also kind and jovial. One of the first things he said, after enquiring with me when was the last time I got a speeding ticket (which was 30 years ago), was that I could go to traffic school online!

Sure, I heard a couple of my friends talking over the last few years about traffic school online, and just about everything like how you can keep adding points to your driver record (points increasing means, evidently, insurance rates increasing), as well as learned of friends who had done traffic school online to ease the cost of the traffic ticket. (For instance, a red light violation, once a whopping $107 in my area, is now nearly $400!). Hence I now get to experience first hand the traffic school online adventure. No sooner I started to research I discovered that, logically, one must use an accredited traffic school online- one that is genuine and will issue you the documentation you need to prove to the courts you have paid your penalty.

Another thing I found out about traffic school online are they can be manageable, thus allowing you to study at your own pace or during at times when you are available; besides traffic school online is cheap; and the fact that traffic school online, if you search long enough, will surely appeal to your particular learning style--offering you games if you are a go-getter, or maybe text only if you prefer verbal instruction, as well as cartoons and short films if you are a keen visual learner.

Here's hoping that I manage to complete my traffic school online in the next few days, and will either go with comedy or cartoons and games. They not only look promising but hopefully will not humiliate me too much with road rules I learned 31 years ago and ace on every DMV test, etc., despite the fact that once every decade "forget".
