Best time to clean your bathroom -- take advantage of that fresh out of the shower dew that's just settled all over your bathroom. No need to fill a bucket full of water, just take a paper towel and wipe off the loosened dirt.

Cleaning bathroom tile and grout -- one of the hardest things to clean in any bathroom is tile and that dirty grout that over time looks more and more gross.

To clean ceramic tile: mix 1 part vinegar with 4 parts water, or, make a solution of water conditioner and water. Wipe down with a soft cloth. Rinse tile thoroughly. Buff with a soft dry cloth.

To clean bathroom grout: add 3/4 cup chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of water. Put on rubber gloves and using a toothbrush, wash grout with bleach solution. Rinse grout well.

Cleaning bathroom floor -- a fast way to clean your bathroom floor is to apply a spray disinfectant to the floor and wipe off with paper towels or a clean cloth.

How to clean a clogged showerhead -- to get rid of accumulated mineral deposits on a showerhead, remove the showerhead and take it apart. Soak the pieces in a bowl of vinegar. Take a toothbrush and clean out remaining sediment. Replace showerhead.

Cleaning toilet bowl ring -- get rid of that dirty ring around the toilet by pouring some chlorine bleach into the toilet bowl and letting it sit for a few minutes. Flush to rinse. This method rivals the best commercial toilet bowl cleaner.

Cleaning a fiberglass bath tub -- fiberglass tubs can be a little harder to clean than other types. A water conditioner like Calgon works well for these types of tubs.

Clean dull shower door -- clean dull shower doors with a cloth saturated with distilled white vinegar or water softener. Buff dry with a clean cloth.

Cleaning plastic shower curtains -- machine wash plastic curtains in warm water with a water conditioner like Calgon. Hang dry. For mildewed curtains add 3/4 cup chlorine bleach to wash cycle.

Removing nonskid rubber tub decals -- remove these sticky decals with a straightedge razor (in a holder) that has been dipped in soapy water. Remove remaining residue with nail polish remover. <bio>Donna Monday Are you embarrassed to have friends and family over because your home is always so messy?
"What is the last thing that your patrons taste/drink before leaving a restaurant ?" And if you do not believe me go out there and watch. Nearly everybody will toss back that last cold cup of coffee before leaving their table, therefore it is vitally important that your coffee tastes wonderful hot, warm or cold.

Now how can you be sure that your coffee tastes good.

STEP ONE : CLEAN the EQUIPMENT

Cleanliness is more important than godliness, therefore ensure that you not only clean your bowls every night (there must be a joke in that line somewhere), and your coffee supplier can give you urn cleaner to really clean them occasionally, or run them through the dishwasher. DO NOT FORGET THE BREW BASKET. This will be dirtier than everything else, so once again ensure that there is no oily residue, plus clean the showerhead, and the area around it. If you have an urn or dual system, ask your coffee supplier to come in and train/educate your staff on how to properly clean the equipment.

STEP TWO: CALIBRATE the EQUIPMENT

Many times I go into a restaurant to find the brewer is short-potting (no this is not a gardening term), and the remedy can be very simple. Adjust the timer or float mechanism. BUT, maybe the equipment is short potting because the water line (including the filter/strainer) or machine or showerhead is clogged with lime, or some other gunk. Cleaning and maybe de-liming is necessary. Remember that if your brew time is too long, your resulting (revolting) coffee will be bitter, with a burnt after-taste. It's rather like drinking coal tar - although I must admit I cannot remember the last time I knocked back a shot of coal tar.

Also, ensure that the water coming out of the showerhead is at the correct temperature, too cold and you will underextract, too hot and we start going down the coal-tar path again. A simple thing to check (use an oral thermometer, not a r...... one), and then adjust the temperature on the thermostat as necessary.

STEP THREE : WATER

A cup of coffee is 98% (approx) water, so if your water tastes lousy, your coffee will taste lousy. So test your faucet water by comparing it to the taste of a bottle of filtered water. And if necessary, put in a proper water filtration system. Remember your ice, soda, and cooking will all taste better.

STEP FOUR : YOUR COFFEE/COFFEE SUPPLIER

The people responsible at your coffee roaster will cup (taste) coffees through the temperature range, right down to room temperature - specifically to address the question at the top of this page, and to ensure that the coffee tastes good even when its been sitting for a while in your coffee cup. The coffee cupper (and by the way the best tea tasters, coffee cuppers, and wine sommeliers are all women, this is because physiologically God built a woman's mouth differently to a man, and women have much better taste buds than men ) will cup and blend the coffee so that the taste profile always remains the same. People do not want surprises when they first wake up, least of all in their coffee cup at 7am, therefore the job of cupping and blending is one of the most difficult in the world. Mind you, most people don't want a surprise in their martinis about 12 hours later, so once again tasting and blending is vital.

Having determined that your coffee supplier/roaster (hopefully one and the same company) can roast and blend coffee well, lets look at packaging, and the whole bean versus fractional pack/ground coffee debate.

Your coffee supplier is loaning you brewing equipment, and if you want to do a whole bean programme (no that is not a spelling mistake), they will lend you a portion control/doser grinder. Now the grinder they lend you will be a proper commercial grinder, costing about $700. But just consider that your roaster uses a grinder where the blades alone cost upwards of $15,000, and your roaster is checking the degree of grind several times a day with very expensive and sophisticated equipment. Therefore what chance do you have with a $700 grinder of achieving a consistent grind? And just remember that your brewed coffee quality will vary enormously with the vagaries of heat and humidity playing havoc with the coffee particle size coming out of your grinder. Or you can buy fractional packs, which have been nitrogen flushed to remove oxygen and preserve freshness.

A doctorate in nuclear engineering is not required to understand that fractional packs will always produce a better, and more consistent brew than a whole bean programme. The difference between local/regional coffee roasters is not in the roasting. Anyone can set themselves up as roaster. Even you. Buy some green beans and toss them into your hot air popcorn popper, and Voila you have air-roasted some coffee. And provided you didn't cremate them, they probably smell wonderful. No, the difference in coffee roasters is how they buy the coffee, where they buy their coffee, how they blend the coffee, and most importantly (and this is really where the women are separated from the girls/ politically correct phraseology) how they pack the coffee.

Coffee's enemies are heat, oxygen, light and humidity. Therefore coffee that does not arrive in your restaurant in foil/film wrapped, hermetically sealed bags will lose its freshness within a day or two. BUT, packing equipment is very expensive to buy and run, and this where the difference lies between a roaster dedicated to ensuring freshness in your patron's coffee cup, and one who does not have what it takes.

And now dear readers to summarize :

Correctly clean and calibrated coffee brewers (try saying that after drinking a couple of martinis) Clear, pure, and great tasting water. Good fresh coffee, from a hermetically sealed portion/fractional pack.

Follow these simple rules and your clients will leave with a smile instead of a grimace. <bio>JH Reynolds is a coffee enthusiast who travels around the world in search of the best beans and exotic flavors.
Whether it's a luxury walk-in wet room, or an all-in-one tub surround, there are some things to think about before you install a shower. Planning is the most important part of the process, because that's the best place to avoid problems.

* What do you want? Start out with your dream. You may have to make some compromises, but get as much of what you want in your shower as possible. Gather as much information as possible, because new products and ideas are being introduced constantly. Rough out a plan of what you'd like to have in your shower.

* How much space do you have, and how much space do you need for your dream shower? If you need more space, can you reasonably get it? If not, where will you compromise?

* What is your budget? Establish your budget, and then reevaluate your wants. Can you afford the shower you want, or do you need to make some compromises? If you're having to give up a lot of what you want, try to find other options-maybe a different design, or maybe giving up one big item to get most of the rest of what you want.

* Who will be using the shower, and what kinds of adaptations will you make for them? If children will be using the shower, perhaps you will install a sliding showerhead, or one that is child height. If you and your partner plan to use the shower together, maybe you'll separate showerheads for each of you.

* How many sprays, what type of sprays, and what luxury features do you want to include?

* Are there any local regulations regarding installing a shower?

* What is your existing plumbing and construction like, and what changes will you need to make to it? Will this drive up the cost?

* Are your well, pump and water heater adequate to supply the shower?

* If you have a septic tank, is it big enough to handle the shower waste water?

* Do you have enough ventilation and light for your new shower? * Do you want to install safety features, like chairs or stools, grab bars or electric controls?

* Will you want to make changes in the future? Even if you can't have your dream shower right now, maybe you could pre-install the pipework for special options now, while you're doing other work.

Thinking about these things before you get started will help make sure you are satisfied with your new shower. You'll get as much of what you really want and stay within your budget. At the same time, you can begin to lay the groundwork for a future andquot;second stageandquot; remodel where you get everything you want. <bio>http://www.showercheck.com gives advice on showers, http://www.showercheck.com/showers/index.html and http://www.showercheck.com/shower-stalls/index.html </bio>

A shower cubicle is an attached shower enclosure that can be put into a bathroom relatively easily.

The best thing about these shower cubicles is that you can get them in almost any shape or size that you require. The shower cubicles are also very tall, so even the tallest person can mount the showerhead in a position where showering is not a struggle, but something that they can enjoy. Some of the main styles of shower cubicles that are available are the square/oblong, quadrant, d-shape, and the pentagonal showers.

Square/Oblong -- This shower cubicle looks like a typical shower you have seen in many people's bathroom. It is butted up against the wall on two sides, and has two sides of glass. This type of shower cubicle has doors that slide or swing open.

If you require a large shower and have plenty of wall space, this shower might be good for you.

Quadrant -- This shower cubicle is set back into the corner of two walls, and it has a rounded front that protrudes out from the two walls. The quadrant shower cubicle is very stylish, and gives an interesting look for a shower. The quadrant also features doors that slide or swing open.

D-Shape -- This shower cubicle style is one of the sleekest looking showers I have ever seen. If you are very interested in having a very stylish shower, then this is definitely the style for you. The coolest thing about this style is how the rounded shape is continued around the entire shower, except the back wall. This allows the doors to create a large opening, which is almost like opening up the entire walls of the shower.

Pentagonal -- This shower cubicle style is a good combination of size and style. With the five-sided shape, this shower cubicle maximizes space, but also looks good. The pentagonal shower has doors that slide or swing open. If you like a large shower, but still want a little bit of style in your bathroom, then this is the shower for you. <bio>Find the right one for your bathroom with our selection of shower cubicles. http://www.wdbathrooms.co.uk/acatalog/Shower_Cubicles.html </bio>

A bathroom will tell you a lot about the owner of the house. This is why; the sense of style that the homeowner adopts for his or her bathroom will reflect his or her personality. Whatever your preference and sense of style, you will be able to find one that will suit it with the many choices available in the market today. This also applies for whatever budget you might be on. What you choose as bath vanity will reflect who you are. All these will be embedded in the sink, showerhead, lighting and cabinets you might have in your bathroom.

Minimalist will go for a concept this is more of free space rather than crowding the bathroom with vanities. They are more comfortable to lay their gaze on bare walls and floors. It is in some cases that you may just have to choose between usability or aesthetic value when it comes to choosing bath cabinet. This is because; they would sometimes not go hand in hand together. Once installed, vanities would be permanent to your bathroom so keep this in mind when you decide.

The kind of vanity one should be buying for the bathroom is the kind that you envision for your bathroom. It is no use for you to buy anything without proper planning as this will lead you to lament over useless purchases. Usability is often the main factor in deciding whether to buy or not and this will also depend on what you need for your bathroom. A bathroom meant to be shared by more people will require more storage area such as cabinets. Several cabinets can be fitted around such as under the sink and above it. For a bathroom meant to be used by only one or two person, it will not require so much storage area. For instance, it might only need one and this will be able to fit most of what the owners have in the bathroom. A bathroom like this can also take the minimalist concept.

Material choices for vanity countertops are ceramic tiles, certain stones, glass, formica, wood and marble. Wood will appear more luxurious and the designs would be more appealing. What can also be found in the market today are floor mounted cabinets that comes with a built in sink. You may be considering these types of cabinets as you get more that just one thing and the price might be a lot cheaper than buying the two things separately. Think about it, as you will have less to worry about such as matching the materials of the sink with the countertop. The most common type of materials for sink is porcelain.

Stones are very ideal materials for vanities and may actually be perfect decorative pieces as well in the bathroom. With a little creative positioning you could make some stones appear to be an expensive piece of bathroom décor.

You can turn the outlook of your bathroom around if you want to. You just need to be creative. You can also ask your friends to supply you with some ideas.<bio>As a foremost expert in the field of modern bathroom remodeling via means of bath vanity, bath cabinet and bathroom lighting, Tommy Kenningston's work on bath cabinet are regularly featured in trade publications around the theme of bathrooms.</bio>

In the past the bathroom was a small room in the house that people spent as little time as possible in. Things have changed greatly over the years. The bathroom is now a place in which people venture to in order to get some alone time, to pamper themselves and to enjoy some peace and quiet. Realtors will now tell you that the bathroom is one of the first rooms that potential buyers will look at. If you are looking to increase the value of your house then think no longer because you can add thousands to the value of your home with a bathroom remodel.

As with any major remodeling project, you must take the time to properly plan the project before you jump in with both feet. The first step should involve planning out your budget. Once you have a budget you must stick to it! Random, careless shopping could lead to the demise of your bathroom remodel. Be sure to pay attention to every obvious cost and also the ones that are not so obvious, like maintenance costs for certain materials. Furthermore, try to do your shopping before you start your project because there is such a wide variety of fixtures and materials on the market today that it may be a bit overwhelming.

In addition to your budget you must also decide on whether you are going for a full bathroom remodel or just redecorating your current bathroom. A full remodel will cost significantly more, but it will also add more to your home's value and make your home more appealing to new buyers. If you don't plan on spending a lot of money, but your bathroom definitely needs a face lift then consider just redecorating the room. You can drastically change the look of the bathroom with very little money.

We have listed some of the other more important areas of consideration with regards to a bathroom remodel. We recommend using these suggestions and considerations when it comes time to remodel your own bathroom.

•During a bathroom remodel you will most likely lose out on using that particular bathroom. Make sure that you arrange a schedule with the rest of the family for the use of the remaining bathroom(s) in the house.

•Make sure you get the proper permits and restrictions in your area with the local government. This is especially important if you are doing a major bathroom remodel because changes will typically involve the electrical and plumbing.

•Before taking on a do-it-yourself project, make sure you know what you are doing and spend time doing your research. This is extremely important if you are planning on handling the electrical or plumbing because serious mistakes and injuries can occur if you don't know what you are doing. Hiring a contractor may be your best option.

•Put careful though into the fixtures you choose for your bathroom. For example, the showerhead should be comfortable for everybody who uses it.

•Make sure that all outlets are grounded. A lot of appliances get plugged into bathroom outlets, such as curling irons, hair dryers and electric shavers. Have you ever plugged in a hair dryer before and when you turned it on you ended up blowing a fuse? Also, grounding all outlets will help prevent eclectic shock.

•As far as style goes, be sure you pay attention to detail. Choose colors that are eye catching and also make every one in the house feel comfortable. Arrange accessories so that they are user friendly and also complimentary to the rest of the décor. Most importantly, make sure that every aspect of the room flows together. <bio>For more information regarding bathroom remodeling, and for a cost estimate on bathroom remodeling design visit http://www.BathroomKey.com </bio>

When it comes to living rooms and kitchen, it is a lot easy to make up excuses when unexpected guests find them in a messy state. However, when the guests find the bathroom to be in a disorganized and dirty state, then it will only reflect something negative about you. Poor lighting, grimy and smelly bathroom is not only uncomfortable to be in, but a horrible sight.

You can have your bathroom cleaned everyday. However, this won't solve your problems forever. Bathroom remodeling would be the answer to your problems. You can change the look of your bathroom all together making it easier to manage and will be able to ready everytime.

You should conduct an overall assessment on your bathroom before remodeling it. The assessment could be done in a day or a few hours as the bathroom should not be too big for you to assess. Rather than seeking professional tips that could cost you a lot, you can look for tips and advise on the Internet or lifestyles magazines.

Below are some tips that will help you in successfully remodeling your bathroom and achieve a new look that is far better than the previous one:

- Assess the present look of your bathroom and note down every detail.

Do some of the paints already chipping off or have faded much already? Are there visible crack already on the wall or among the tiles on the floor? Does the showerhead or the sink look dirty already? Are the cabinets creaking when you open them? Does the bathroom lack in aesthetic impact? How about the lighting fixtures? How about the color of the room? Write down the current look of the bathroom and think of what you can do to improve those specific areas of concern. Then scout for the materials and check local stores for the prices.

There are many things to consider before renovating. One of them is the size of your bathroom. People would often want to make their bathroom appear bigger and wider. This is good for mobility and appreciating the wonderful designs of your selected bathroom tiles. A wall mounted bathroom cabinet will work best if you need to create more space. They are available in a variety of designs, sizes and built. You can also go for custom made designs to suit your storing needs.

- Establish a budget and stick to it.

Setting a budget for the renovation is crucial since it will determine how far you can go with the changes. It will dictate what to buy and what couldn't be bought, what to have and what to avoid. Of course it will be impractical for you to spend a fortune on the bathroom alone (whereas you can use the money to remodel the rooms or the whole kitchen perhaps). Provide a budget and follow it. You may make necessary adjustments along the way but not too much.

One knows that when remodeling the bathroom, you are likely going to spend more than you should. For this reason, one should try one's best to save more money. Buying stuffs from thrift shop can save you a lot of money. Other than that, try to use recycled materials for your bathroom. If you can wait a little longer for the sale, then by all means you should. You can try selling your old bathroom equipments and fixtures to bring more money in.

Saving money should be your priority. Therefore, when there are things you can do on your own, you should do so. However, you may need help on certain areas like plumbing and wiring. Don't attempt to do anything you are not sure of yourself. This might cost you more than you should anything goes wrong.<bio>As a foremost expert in the field of modern bathroom remodeling via means of bathroom vanity, bathroom cabinet and bathroom lighting, Tommy Kenningston's work are regularly featured in trade publications around the theme of bathrooms.</bio>

Not everyone can bathe in milk, honey, and wine on a daily basis. And even if you can, you will still need clear water to wash off the residue. Just imagine going around in summer with honey sticking to your skin, attracting flies, gnats and other pesky insects to feast on your skin literally. Or imagine strolling in the park smelling like a drunken bum, never mind if you smell of Cabernet Sauvignon. You get the point.

However, chlorinated water in the tap can be bad for your health, too. With over 2000 known water contaminants, chlorine is necessary to purify water but when subjected to heat in the shower, it can pose health risks. The least of your problems is steam in your bathroom, the worst being the inhalation of harmful chemicals that can cause cancer. (In our modern world, it would seem that damned if you do, damned if you don't is the norm)

But you can do something about it. You can install shower filters in your bathrooms!

Health Benefits

Shower filters can remove water impurities like other water filters. As much as you do not want to ingest heavy metals (and no, not the head-banging, angst-filled bands) like lead and mercury, you do not want them anywhere near your skin pores and hair strands either. Shower filters remove heavy metals that can cause nausea, diarrhea, brain damage, and cancers over time. This is not a valid reason, however, not to take baths since you will acquire illnesses related to unhygienic practices.

Shower filters also remove the chlorine present in tap water. You can end up with dry hair and dry skin when you continue using chlorinated water, not to mention that your hair color can change, too! Again, you want clean water that chlorine made possible but you do not want to end up like a shriveled prune with scraggly hair before your time is due. Or you can spend thousands on lotions and creams but filters are more economical for the purpose.

Romantic Possibilities

Since you can have softer skin and hair, imagine what it would do for your love life! Arguably, human attraction is founded on physical attraction more than anything else. The sight of smooth, clear skin and shiny, lustrous hair is a big come-on to both men and women, which you can attain through genetics, lotions and creams, and a little help from your trusty shower filters.

And who does not appreciate a shower scene in movies? You could recreate favorite love scenes in showers with your partner, perhaps. Whether the showerhead is handheld or not, you have many romantic possibilities with just your imagination in tow.

Indeed, there is something about running water, soaps and suds, and bodies taking a bath that elicits romantic thoughts (as against purely sexual ideas) in humans. And all without worrying about getting illnesses and diseases when performing the most basic of acts! Bathing, that is.

And you thought that shower filters were purely consumerist devices made to flesh money from you! Now you know that they do serve health functions and offer romantic possibilities.<bio>For your countertop water filters and shower filters, purchase only from WaterFiltersForAHealthyLife.com today!</bio>

Summer is soon on the way. Now is the time to think about how to be "green" at the cottage of Lake Chalet. How can you use less water and be more "green" at your vacation haven =96 your respite from the world.

Are there ways to reduce your water use? First install that low flow showerhead that you have meaning to replace for years. Why wait for spring or in this case summer? Especially if long showered teenagers hang out at your cottage this is a great idea. A low flow aerator can cut the water flow by 50% to your lake.

Any water flow that you can reduce will keep your lake healthier. Human waste contains phosphorus, a nutrient that algae thrive on: too much or it and your lake will get algal blooms and a decline in water quality and beauty.

Inspect your septic tank and the surrounding areas periodically for odors or puddling. If you do detect trouble as they say deal with it. It may be difficult if not impossible to get a real professional to your tank. You may have to deal with it yourself or use a local of more limited skills than a true professional who may well be unlikely to head off to the bush.

As part of normal maintenance have the sludge pumped out every three to five years. And if you are having a major shindig it is always better to anticipate and plan ahead.

You are not in the city. You are at your Lake Cottage or chalet. Kick the manicured grass habit. Around 50 % of rainfall rolls right over short manicured grass lawns right to the water, carrying with it fertilizers. Laced with terrible ghastly to the lake and water life phosphorous. Even worse to the lake life are terrible pesticides which can roll off that carefully manicured lawn. Better to replace a lawn with no maintenance native plants such as dogwood and black eyes Susans, which readily absorb surface water =96 all the better for your lake. If you must be a turf head please keep the grass more than 100 feet from the shoreline, don't use pesticides, and mow the lawn no shorter than 2 /12 inches high (or lows)

When you need to gas up the lawnmower or power motors, say for fishing, it is best to refuel away from the waster. Chainsaws, generators, pumps and boat engines need gasoline and often oil as well. Best to do this away from the shore and if possible refuel over a tray and in a shelter with a hard floor. If possible use a rag for mopping to make clean up easier.

Lastly if possible hook up a rain barrel to your eaves trough. By catching rainfall before it hits the ground, you can greatly reduce runoff, yet attain. Even temporarily storing rain in a barrel until after a storm lets up, reduces erosion. Newer rain barrels are designed to keep out mosses so the water will not become a breeding pool for them.

In addition of course you have a ready source of the softest water you can find =96 great for washing your hair, for dishes, and for general water and washing uses.

We all want to be respectful of the bounty of mother earth. Best to think ahead and plan to be green at the lake cottage of chalet. When you get down to it is the only way to be. <bio>Kerry A.
These days, a major factor for many home improvement projects is the need to cut down on energy costs by making the home more energy efficient. Many home owners are finding that simple projects that require little initial investment will save them a bundle in the summer and the winter, when heating and cooling costs really begin to add up. Here are some areas and ideas you can check on to make sure that your home is wasting the least possible amount of energy.

Water: Water in any form is a general conservation concern, and there are areas throughout North America where water is at such a premium that usage is measured in much the same way as electricity; through the use of meters. The same methods for conserving your water in the home can also be used when it comes to cutting down on your gas or electric bill by watching your hot water intake.

A major area for the loss of hot water is the bath. In order to cut costs, consider installing a water smart showerhead- these easy to screw on water savers can be bought both as attachable heads, which are mounted directly on your shower spout, or as heads attached to a tube which allows for flexibility and a large range of motion. The best water saving heads will have several controls to adjust the flow and pressure of water.

You should also take a look at repairing any leaky taps in your home, whether in the bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room. A leaky tap can mean hundreds of gallons of water used needlessly every day, in addition to the annoyance of the noise.

Heating and Cooling: The main factors in energy use as far as homes go is in their heating in the wintertime and cooling in the form of air conditioning in the summer time. Some basic home improvement ideas can help you maintain a static temperature in your home without having to use extra power.

Windows are always the first area to check in the event of air loss. Older houses contain only single-pane windows, and in order to retain the air temperature of your house double paned windows are necessary; in fact, in many places double paned windows are mandatory. Upgrading your windows is a relatively easy task, although the windows themselves may be expensive. Check the seals around the window edges to make sure they are intact and offer no leaks.

The next area to check for air leaks is around your doors. Doors will contract over time, leaving minute cracks along the bottoms and the edges which can allow drafts or escaped air. This is a pretty simple thing to fix, simply by adding some additional caulking or weather stripping to the area where you can feel the leak.

Finally, a roof in need of repair can cause a lot of air to escape. Remember that heat rises, so if your roof is in disrepair you stand to lose quite a lot of heat out of the top of your home. Check your roof every year to make sure there are no loose shingles, and most houses require a roof to be replaced every twenty-five years. Adding a second whirlybird to the top of your house can greatly improve the circulation of air inside. <bio>Chester Smith runs a website offering free home improvement advice.
If you are considering changing the current look of your bathroom, one simple tip to be recommended is to simply check out other people's bathroom to get some ideas. Who knows? You might find something in your friend or neighbor's bathroom that will catch your fancy and get some helpful bathroom remodeling tips from them as well. Of course you may buy those home décor magazines--even old issues. There might be a design that you would be interested to incorporate in your own bathroom.

Depending upon your taste or mood, you may opt for bathroom with a refreshing look that will definitely pump up your energy on lazy Sunday mornings or a relaxing, soothing ambiance for those tired nights or a general look that is clean, modern and sophisticated. Delegate "pamper areas" in your bathroom which is a specific spot wherein your can just do all those sort of body pampering like where you can have your own home-made or ready-made mixtures and aromatherapy oils for foot/nail/hand/body spa. Aside from installing a low-emitting bulb in the bathtub area, you may place a candelabrum and burn some scented candles while you relax on a luxurious bath. Provide small benches or rounded chairs so you can take a seat while fixing yourself in front of the mirror and it may also aid you when you apply lotion in your legs or when you shave them. Better, buy foldable or collapsible chairs for easy storage and to save space.

Speaking of space, there are plastic, see-through (for easy location and no need to label the containers) containers with covers wherein you can put various bathroom stuffs like toiletries and shower supplies, towels, toilet cleaners, cosmetics, equipment (like your blow dryer) and spa treatment materials and so on. That way your bathroom will not look cluttered. You may simply stack up the containers in spot. There are a variety of colors to choose from and pick the one that will complement with the color of your bathroom. Still, you may buy have them in different colors for a more vibrant look of the bathroom.

Most people would want their bathroom to look bigger thus better. If you feel that containers will only limit your space, you can have cabinets instead. The best ones are wall-mounted cabinets. They will make your bathroom look bigger and wider. They also save more room. If you have beautifully designed tiles, these wall-mounted cabinets are therefore useful. Place a wide mirror in your bathroom to give it that extra illusion of extensiveness. You can also put two mirrors in if you like.

If you happen to share a bathroom, there are some useful tips you might want to use. To avoid petty arguments especially in mornings, you can have sinks for the both of you. Separating the toilet and the shower is also a good idea, as this will enable the both of you to go on with your businesses in the mornings without interrupting each other. You can also install clear or frosted glass for the bathroom shower and a showerhead that is either permanently attached or can be hand held, to save more time. They must be able to function for hot and cold water.

You should always have your lightings set on the side or top of your mirror. You it is too far, you might not be able to see yourself clearly thus giving you a hard time shaving or applying makeup. If you wish to have more natural lighting in, seat the dressing table nearer to a window. Apart from this, you will be able to have fresh air in so your bathroom will also be well ventilated and odor free.

For a more modern or unique look, you may consider having a folding door for your bathroom to save space. As part of the remodeling as well, change the color of your bathroom but try to stick up to two colors only that will blend with each other (like midnight blue and aquamarine or olive green and avocado) so that the room will not be "confusing" to look at. You may also opt for wallpaper which definitely comes in more exciting colors with matching designs.

Creativity and effort on your part will bear its fruit when you see the outcome of your brand new and exciting bathroom. It will be simply breathtaking.<bio>Tommy Kenningston is a foremost thought leader in the field of modern bathroom remodeling with accessories such as bathroom vanity, bath cabinet, bathroom lighting and bathroom shower, just to name a few.</bio>

Throw the Best Bridal Shower

Bored of playing Bridal Bingo? Tired of making wedding dresses out of toilet paper? Fed up with wearisome wedding showers? We've got some great ideas that will add some pep to your party!

At first glance, most gift registries look a lot alike. Every couple seems to be in need of the same items. But you can make the average present stand out by adding pizzazz! If the bride and groom have registered for bath towels, why not include bath gel, bath bubbles, a loofah, or even a cool new showerhead (one designed for couples would be a romantic touch)? If Mr. Coffee is on the list, make more out of the 'maker by adding the couples' favorite flavor of coffee, a pair of pretty mugs, and perhaps a bit of delicious biscotti. Think a vase is too plain? Fill it with a beautiful bouquet of the bride's favorite flowers. And if wine glasses seem too simple, purchase a wine of the month membership for the new Mr. and Mrs.

Toss those tired shower games to the curb! Try playing Name That Tune. Each guest must write down a song lyric that reminds them of the bride and an adventure they shared. For example, the maid of honor might recall "searching for my long lost shaker of salt" as a tribute to the many nights she and the bride spent making margaritas. Have fun with Fill-In-The-Blank Vows. Pass around two separate sheets of paper. One sheet should begin with "I (bride's name) promise to" and the other sheet should start "I (groom's name) promise to". Each guest should then add one vow to both the bride and groom's lists (I, Gary, promise to take two minutes in the shower so that I can conserve more water for my wife's thirty minute session). How about a game of WWBD- What Would the Bride Do? Give each guest a card with a silly scenario written down, such as "What if the best man begins running through the reception without a shirt?" The guest must then think of an appropriate response. "Make a toga out of a tablecloth and put him at the front of the conga line!"

Bridal showers don't have to be all about punch, cake, and cards. Add some flair by creating a theme. Are the bride and groom a "green" couple? Make the festivities environmentally friendly. Surround the guests with nature by hosting the party at a botanical garden or local park. Shower the couple with gifts that give back to the earth like cotton linens, wooden utensils, and energy-saving electric bulbs. Print shower invitations on recycled paper. Will the bride and groom be honeymooning in a special location? Try a travel theme. Invite guests to bring gifts that the couple will use while on their trip. For example, if they plan to tan in the tropics, guests should give items like beach towels, bathing suits, set up a spa day at a local salon, or purchase gift certificates to area restaurants. If the bride and groom would prefer a couples' shower where they can both attend, consider a bar theme. Suggest that guests bring a bottle of wine, a cool microbrew, or a set of funky martini glasses to help the bride and groom stock their personal saloon. And for the couple who already has everything and would rather not register, make it a charity shower. Ask guests to bring an item that the bride and groom can donate to their favorite charity. Food, clothing, and cash all make for generous gifts that the couple will appreciate and the community will benefit from.<bio>Author Hugh Parker: Senta Parker photography is the buzz in wedding photography and her resource center is jam packed with helpful articles that address all the needs of those planing a wedding.
HAIR MAINTENANCE

There are a few things you can do on a regular basis that will improve the overall health and appearance of your hair, as well as a few things you can avoid. In general, here's a few standards:

Brush your hair: Yep, the good old fashioned hundred strokes. This stimulates blood supply to the scalp, removes dead skin cells from the scalp before they can get infected, and distributes sebum over the hair shaft for moisturizing and protection. Bend over from the waist and hang limply while doing some of the brushing. Use a natural bristle brush or other gentle brush. Be careful and don't hurry. Better to go slow and only get 30 strokes in, than go fast and risk breaking or pulling out your hair. Get into the habit of brushing your hair thoroughly before washing it.

Massage your scalp: Before you stop to groom and brush your hair during the day, make a point of doing a quick scalp massage first. Slip your fingers into your hair, and using just the pads of your fingers, massage in small circular motions over your scalp. Using your finger pads will keep you from breaking your hair, scratching your scalp and messing up your style too much. Then restyle, re-spray (if you use it) and go...

Break Day: Get into the habit of giving your hair a break once a week. It is not necessary to wash your hair every day (unless you are a teenager, have a dirty job or work up a real sweat every day). If you are over the age of 20, and do not have any rashes or infections (like dandruff), give your hair a break for a whole day. Pick a day where you normally do not go out, or just do housework and run errands. Do not wash with shampoo and do not heat style. If you just feel too grubby and must do something, after brushing your hair thoroughly to distribute the sebum, simply wet your hair, apply a little daily conditioner to the ends, rinse well, and then pull back into a "wet look" ponytail or bun. Give your hair a break from shampooing once a week, and whenever possible, from blow-drying and heat styling.

Conditioning Treatment: Unless you have very fine, limp hair, get into the habit of applying a deep conditioning treatment to your hair once a week. Deep conditioners are not the same as daily conditioners, and homemade preparations work really well. Coconut oil is especially good for hair conditioning. Brush your hair, wash it lightly, and then towel dry. Apply your deep conditioner and then wrap your head in a heated towel to open the hair cuticle and allow the conditioner to soak in. Leave for 10 minutes to half and hour. Then rinse thoroughly in warm water to remove the conditioner residue that remains, then cool water to close the hair cuticle. Rinsing your hair in cool water can be a little uncomfortable, but it can do amazing things for the appearance of your hair. It closes the hair cuticle close to the shaft, which increases shine and manageability, and helps to keep hair strong. A mixture of cool water and lemon juice is even better for shine and strength (a half of a teaspoon of lemon juice in two quarts of cool water is sufficient).

Daily Conditioner: Get into the habit of applying a daily conditioner to hair ends every time you shampoo. This will reduce slit ends, discoloration when coloring, damage when heat styling and reduce the need for frequent trims. Use a product designed for thermal styling if you frequently blow-dry, use a curling iron or hot rollers.

Haircuts: Get into the habit of getting your hair trimmed when it needs to be. Again, this reduces split ends and keeps excess weight off your hair (which can cause breakage). About once every 8 weeks is right for shoulder length or longer hair, once every 6 weeks for shorter styles.

Up-Dos: Yep, that's right -- if you have long hair and want to keep it that way - put your hair up when possible. I'm not suggesting you look like an librarian every day, but one of the reasons that women grew such long beautiful hair back in the "old days" is because they wore it up all the time. The weight of your hair can stimulate the start of the telogen phase. When hair is weighed down and very long, it stops growing and falls out, or simply breaks off. Putting your hair up frequently will keep that weight off the root of the hair. You can pin it up gently with bobby pins or a banana clip when running errands, doing housework, cooking dinner, doing yard work, messing around on your computer, watching TV, etc. Now, this depends on your hair style and hair length. If you have a short hairstyle, this step is not only unnecessary -- it's impossible. However, if you have shoulder length or longer hair, and want it to be as thick and healthy looking as possible, make it a point to put it up and keep the weight off your scalp. The other upside is that it will help keep the hair out of dinner.

How to Wash Your Hair

Believe it or not, there is a right way to wash your hair. Treat it like the finest silk! If you've ever made the mistake of running a pair of expensive silk hose through your washing machine, you'll know what I mean.

Here a few tips for avoid causing any excess damage to your hair while washing it:

1. Let your hair hang naturally when you wash it; either standing in the shower or with your head leaning over the bath, or in a shampoo sink. NEVER -- NEVER -- NEVER -- pile it up on your head to wash.

2. Wet your hair with warm water (not hot) to prepare it for shampooing. Keep the pressure on the showerhead gentle enough to avoid excess water pressure on your hair.

3. Pour shampoo into the palm of your hand.

4. Work the shampoo into a lather in your hand, and apply to your scalp. Work the shampoo into your scalp all over your head by massaging with your fingertips (not your fingernails). Move fingers from one area of your head to the other by lifting the fingers and then placing them elsewhere on your head. Do NOT drag them through your hair. Remember, hair is the most vulnerable to damage and breakage when it is wet. If your hair is particularly dirty or oily, you can work the shampoo through to the ends. If your hair is very dry or processed, you may just want to wash your scalp, and let the shampoo pick up any dirt or oil on the ends as it's rinsed out.

5. Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. Ensure that you allow it to hang naturally. You may spread it out gently with your fingertips if it's long and needs extra help getting out the shampoo.

6. If you chose to use a rinse-out conditioner, this is the time. Unlike shampooing, apply conditioners to the ends of your hair, and if your hair is generally dry, apply the remainder on your hands gently to the roots. Repeat the rinse.

7. Towel dry gently. The new hair towel wraps are excellent, keep hair in place and aren't heavy like a towel wrap so there's less risk of breakage to your hair.

8. Once hair is towel-dried you can apply a leave-in conditioner.

9. ALWAYS comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb-- NEVER brush wet hair.

10. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER sleep on wet hair -- it is vulnerable when wet, and can break easily as you turn on your pillow. Even if it doesn't break, it roughs up the cuticle and makes it look dull.

11. Air dry hair whenever possible. <bio>Fawn Bales has studied and practiced alternative and herbal medicine for over 20 years. She has also studied aesthetic technology and cosmetology.
