In our lives we should have goals set for ourselves. We may set personal, financial, educational, work place and other goals for ourselves. Realistically speaking we should set short term and long term goals. If we do not set goals for ourselves where are we trying to go and where might we end up without them. The same theory holds true for your franchise business. Where could your business end up if you do not set goals for it. Also, if you do not set goals for your franchise how will you even know if you have been successful or not with it?

When you first become a franchise owner make sure that you start by determining what you want to accomplish by owning a franchise. For example you may have a goal of spending more time with your family, or making more money, or simply being able to be your own boss, or any other number or goals you may have set. You must make sure that the franchise you choose will meet those goals before you pursue the franchise opportunity. Figure out what you want to get out of the experience!

Once you have determined the goals you want to have met by being a franchise owner, you must set the goals for your franchise business to help you reach your own goals. Start by putting your goals in writing. This is a great way to keep them clear and available to recall easily. Make sure that you write each goal with a certain criteria. For example don't say "my goal is to increase sales", write a goal like this "my goal is to increase sales by 10% in one quarter". This way you really have something to work towards, "increase sales" is a generic statement. Your written goals should be written positively. For example you might say "the franchise will keep the same amount or greater of customers" instead of "the franchise will not lose any customers". Keeping your goals positive helps you achieve them better. You may also consider making a small list of positives and negatives that will happen if you do or do not reach your goals. This way you will constantly be reminded of why you set the goal in the first place. Ensure that these goals have meaning to you and that you truly want to reach them, this will be key in reaching them.

Now that we have talked about how to set goals, you should also consider making two lists of goals. One list should be a short term and the other list a long term goal list. You should have goals for each list if you want to be a successful franchise owner. Make sure that you have small goals you can reach in a short time and other larger goals that will be met over a longer time period. Also some of your short term goals should help you reach your long term goals.

Set goals for your franchise business and you can be a successful franchise owner!<bio>For more information on an automotive franchise, visit BumperDoc auto body franchise and start your path to business ownership.</bio>

If you want to succeed within you career it is very important that you set goals. The fact of the matter is that setting career goals can go a long way in helping you to achieve both short and long term success. The main reason that a lot of people do not set career goals is because they are simply too lazy. If you think about it you can set up plenty of goals in no time at all. The only thing that you have to do is take a few minutes of your time, and you can at least come up with a few goals that you are interested in reaching during your time in the work force.

When setting career goals you should look into both short and long term options. For instance, a short term career goal would be based around what you can accomplish in the next few months. This may be something as simple as closing a deal on a certain account, or finding a new job that better suits your lifestyle. When setting short term career goals make sure that they are attainable. Many people make the mistake of setting these short term goals that are entirely too difficult to reach.

Long term goals cover the span of many years. You may want to set a long term career goal that states where you want to be five years from now. Additionally, try to make all of your short term goals lead up to your long term goal. This way you can see yourself making progress over time.

If you want to be a success you need to set goals. This goes for many areas of life, but when it comes to your career this is very important. Sure, you can get by without setting any goals for your career, but why would you want to do this? When you set career goals you have a much better chance of enjoyment with your job, as well as making more money.

Take a few minutes to set some career goals that will put you on the right path to success. <bio>Francois is an expert on http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk.
Setting goals and making plans are simply a part of life. It is no secret that most aspects of our lives must have goals set and this is especially true in business. In order for a business to run smoothly and properly, it must have a set of solid goals to work towards. Setting a goal full of milestones and objectives, is an extremely crucial aspect of planning and running a business. Essentially, setting a goal can literally set your business up for success or failure.

While goal setting is an important aspect for any business, not everyone really knows how to formulate objectives and implement them for achieving the goals. A new business owner may not understand the importance of establishing solid and reachable goals for their business. Setting achievable goals gives the business something to aim for. With a target, you know better where your efforts need to go. A goal also gives a sense of direction to the management team. Knowing what the goals are and what they need to do, allowing for harmony in the office.

There are five basic rules of setting business goals. First, be very specific in your goals, right down to the most minute detail. Your objectives and goals should be extremely specific and include fractions, ratios, numbers, frequencies and percentages. Second, you should be able to measure your goals. In other words, when you set a goal, you should be able to track all actions and progress with the goals. Make sure the goals are reasonable and attainable. You should never set goals that are too far out of reach, doing so will set you up for disappointment. The goals must be realistic, but require effort on the part of your company.

You should also create goals that are relevant to your business. When creating goals, keep in mind the type of business you run and what areas you intend to implement those goals. You should also set a time limit on all goals. Look to achieve specific objectives within a specific amount of time, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, etc.

Overall, create a business goal that is solid and stick to it. Deviations from the plan, could set your company up for failure. This is why you want to follow the above steps to ensure that all of your goals are attainable. <bio>Jonathan Mayheart, with a solid knowledge of personality psychology and BioData, has published articles on goal setting, personal goal setting and business goal setting .
Just about everyone has heard, and most people agree to some extent, that goal setting is a great way to get yourself where you want to go in life. If you feel you can't seem to reach the life you know you were born to lead, then effective goals can be a great motivating force.

As you begin to set and achieve goals your self confidence will grow astronomically. But where do you start and what will make your goals worthwhile? This article will help you to start setting effective goals which will lead you where you want to go in life.

An excellent place to start when you're considering the goals you want to pursue is taking some time to consider whether or not the goal that comes to mind is really your own goal.

It is easy to give credence to goals you feel you should make, even though these may not be the real things which motivate you. Well meaning parents, friends, family and employers might have ideas or even suggestions about goals you could pursue.

Only you will know what is truly important to you, and only that which is truly important to you will give you the motivation you will need if the going gets tough.

If you want your goals to be truly worthwhile, then focus on performance goals and not outcome oriented goals.

Performance goals ensure that the success or failure of your goal comes entirely from within you.

Outcome goals depend on factors outside of yourself over which you have no control. If you say you are going to do a particular thing, you can either do it or not. But if you focus on an outcome like "I will make a million dollars" then you have to depend on others to make your goal happen, in this case you have to depend on others giving you money for some reason.

Outcome goals are cheap because you can walk away saying it wasn't your fault, but performance goals leave the responsibility with you. In the end you'll cherish the completed goals you were fully responsible for much more than any other kind.

Goals can help you focus on your acquisition of knowledge. They can help you organize your time and resources to get what you want out of life. Take responsibility for your life by setting goals and watch how you begin to feel empowered. You can truly be the designer of your own life. <bio>Robert Greenshields is a marketing success coach who helps business owners and independent professionals who are frustrated that they're working too many hours for too little reward.
We all have to deal with fear and anxiety in our life. Our fears and anxieties can reduce our self-confidence and help prevent us from getting what we want. One of the ways to help manage your fears is to develop some goals and then focus on reaching those goals.

Developing goals will help you manage your fears because goals help us not to focus on our fears. For instance, let's say that you have to finish your report for work by the end of the week. If you focus on reaching that deadline, this will distract you from getting stressed and anxious. You will be focused on getting the report done for your boss.

Developing certain goals will help you to gain the motivation in doing something. Being motivated can help you in dealing with your stresses, but it will not get rid of them. Doing something you like will increase your motivation to do something besides worry and concentrating on your anxieties.

It is much easier to accomplish something if you know what you want and if you have a plan. Knowing what you want will help manage the stresses and anxieties of getting want you want. Having a sense of purpose can really help you in countering the stresses and anxieties of the situation.

Developing goals will help you to be active during your stressful times. When you are feeling stressed, you need to do something besides worry. You need to do an activity and be active. Setting goals will help you to keep busy instead of worrying about your problems. Once you accomplish your goals, you will be in a better mood.

You will still need to talk to a professional to learn the skills in managing your fears and anxieties. Developing goals and doing something you like to do will help you to not focus on your fears, but it is still important to get professional help for your anxieties. <bio>Stan Popovich is the author of "A Layman's Guide to Managing Fear" an easy to read book that presents a overview of techniques that are effective in managing persistent fears and anxieties.
You will undoubtedly have dreams. Whether you dream of having the perfect house with the perfect car, or you dream of settling down to have a family, even if you dream of retiring by the time you're 40, the one key to success is doing something about it. It may sound obvious but if you dream of retiring before you reach 40 and yet you aimlessly skip from job to job with no hope of progressing a career, it is very unlikely you will achieve your goal.

Set goals and ambitions and write them down on a piece of paper. Make sure that you are always striving to reach those goals. Sometimes it can be difficult to get the motivation you require in order to succeed at your goals but you can use the goals themselves as the motivation you require. Keep your piece of paper on you and if you are beginning to feel downbeat or skeptical about your goals then look at your piece of paper and remember why you are pushing yourself.

Structuring your life in this way, may seem like it loses its spontaneity but that doesn't have to be the case. Find a career you like, set up a business, and have fun doing it but always remember that if a good opportunity crops up you should take it with both hands. It is worse not to try something and not know whether it would have been successful than it is to never try anything.

Presuming you have set reasonable goals you should always be able to see a way to fulfill them. If you set goals that are too difficult you will find it incredibly difficult if not completely impossible to meet your goals. You should try not to alter them if possible, however, we don't know what's around the corner so we can't always plan for it. Don't see this as a failure but take the opportunity to reassess your goals and keep going. About The Author: Dana Goldberg is the owner of Improve Life Tips.
Why do some people seem to succeed in all they do, but others flounder along at the rear? Mostly it's because the successful people have set goals and take steps to successfully achieve them. So how do they always seem to achieve their goals?

Here are five strategies they use:

1. Start with a long-term goal, write it down, taking into account when you are goin to achieve the goal and why it's important. Try and be as visual as possible, explaining how the achievement of this goal will change your life for the better. Once this long-term goal has been documented, break the goal into tangible steps that need to be taken to achieve the goal.

2. Make certain that you really want the goal. Ask yourself, "Do I really want this goal? Will this goal give me a better life?" Answering these questions will give you more drive to achieve your goal.

3. Speak up. You should not keep your goals to yourself. Sharing your goals can help you get the support you may need from others. Some people are concerned with telling others about their goals because they are worried they will fail. However, telling others means that you are more likely to achieve your goals either with their support or in-spite of them.

4. Write down your goals. This strategy is advisable for those who have a long list of goals. After writing them down, review them regularly. You may also want to keep them handy to keep you motivated.

You have to discipline yourself to stick to what you have written. Do not just write them and tuck them away somewhere 'safe'. Its better to keep them where you will see them, try sticking them to the refrigerator.

5. Stay on track and do not give up. Reviewing your goals will help open your mind to see if you are on the right track. While on track, you may have to face challenges that might change the way you see yourself.

Never be discouraged. Encountering obstacles is just a test for how dedicated one is to achieve the goals you've set. It will all boil down to you preparing yourself to face anything and doing everything to get to the goal that you have set for yourself. Only you can make it happen. Nothing can stop you if you have set your mind to it and commit to taking action. <bio>Stu Pearson has an interest in Finance, Business and Technology. By writing it down, you're making it much more likely to happen.

So, you must set some goals and write them down.

I know this may sound unimportant to you at the moment, especially if you have never used this technique before.

But trust me on this...Before I set goals to work on in my practice I was highly frustrated with the lack of results I was getting.

Goal setting keeps you focused and makes you get what you want from your practice.

Also, if you don't set goals, you don't have anything clear to measure how well you've progressed. This can mean that you don't progress much at all, or you don't notice your progress.

This can lead to lack of desire to play guitar and lack of desire is a 100% guaranteed route to failure.

That's not what you want, is it?

So, in summary:

You must cover each of these points:

• Your must set long-term and short-term goals. • You must read and review your goals before you practice. • You must focus on completing these goals while you're practicing. • When you finish practicing, review your goals and tick off the goals you have completed. • If you miss a goal, don't worry! Review the goal and decide if it was realistic enough. If it wasn't realistic, change it until it is. If you still feel it is realistic, leave it there and work on it next time. • It helps to make your goal time limited. (E.g. Within 30 days) This will help keep you focused and accountable. <bio>Find more guitar lessons here: http://www.guitar-secrets.net </bio>

If you write your goals and just hope to magically achieve them without committing yourself to it then you are just like most people. It is common for a majority of people to get stuck in an endless cycle of goal setting and giving up right away - and not accomplishing any goals at all.

Commitment plays a large part in getting goals achieved. If you do not commit to achieving your goals, then your goals will seem unimportant and since it is not important, you will just be tempted to quit before you even get started. However, show some commitment to your goals and set daily reminders to yourself about these goals and you will be encouraged to achieve them.

It is not that hard to commit to your goals as long as you set your mind to it. Here are some doable steps:

1) Make sure the goals you set are important to you. This is tricky as it is easy to fool yourself into thinking that you want one particular thing when in reality you want something else. Take your time in figuring out what it is that your heart wants to achieve. Know your reason behind a specific goal. How will achieving the goal benefit you? How will you feel after accomplishing your goal?

It is best to write it down in a journal and keep it close by so that you can easily go back and read it as often as you need to. Writing it and reading your goals and reasons behind them over and over again will help you commit to the goal.

Don't forget to ask yourself if the benefits you will get outweigh any effort that you will go through to achieve the goal. If you believe that the benefits outweigh the sacrifices, then, go for it - work on achieving your goal.

2) Make sure to consider the "what if's". Think about the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/consequences" rel="tag">consequences if you do not continue on with achieving your goal. If the consequences are not all that grave, then perhaps you need to reconsider your goals. Make your goals top priority wherein if you don't work on achieving them, you'll be faced with an unfavorable consequence. Be creative. You can promise to give something up if you do not achieve your goal. This way, you will try your best to ensure that your goal gets accomplished.

3) Renew your commitment each day. When your goal is new and your motivation is high, it is so easy to be committed. However, you need to stay committed until your goal is achieved. Make a conscious effort to remember your goal and its importance to you each day when you wake up. That is why it helps to write your goals down in a journal so you can read it over and over and remember its importance. Make a vow to work on your goal each day until it is achieved.<bio>Being a mom is extremely rewarding, but it's challenging.
It's coming to the end of 2006 and the new year is coming. During the new year, many people will set their goals such as faster job promotion, a salary increase, spend more time with your family etc. While it's good to set your goals for the new year, most people never actually achieve their goals. Why?

The simple explanation for that is 2 fold. One, most people do not set clear goals and have a very vague idea of what their goals is. The second reason is most people do not take steps to achieve the goals they have set.

In a way, the second reason is dependent on your goals. If you only have a vague idea of what your goal is, then it becomes almost impossible to take steps to achieve your goals.

The following 6 key steps will help you achieve better results with your goals:

1. Set a specific goal.

Setting a goal that is specific allows you to have a clearer picture of what you want to achieve. For example instead of setting a goal of I want to be rich in 2007, set a goal that you want to earn $100,000 in 2007. I find numbers and figures when setting your goals makes it more achievable and more easily attainable.

2. Set a timeframe for your goal.

Every goal you set must have a timeline. The reason for that is so that it can be easy to assess whether you have achieved your goal and if not, the reasons why and how far off to your goals are.

Setting a timeframe also motivates you to meet the deadline and to take necessary action to meet that dateline. If you do not set a time frame to your goals, you probably end up chasing that dream for the rest of your life.

3. Set A Realistic Goal.

Your goal should be realistic and achievable in a timeframe that you set. Setting a realistic goal makes it more achievable and real rather than a fantasy. It's not a bad thing to have high goals but you may need to tweak your goals as you go along if you find that it is not realistic.

4. Chart Your Progress

It is important you establish short term goals or what I called landmark goals that determine your exact position on the goal you are setting. For example, if you aiming to earn $100,000 a year. Set a short term goal of $30,000 in march, $60,000 in june and then see if you met your short term goals.

Doing this allows you to determine whether you are exceeeding or lacking behind in your goals. Then you can take extra steps to catch up.

5. Be prepared For Obstacles

Many a times, you will be faced with obstacles along the way to your goal. It's perfectly natural and do not get discouraged or frustrated. One of the greatest achievements you can accomplished is to overcome these obstacles.

Even if you did not achieve your goals, take it as a challenge for your next goal. The point is never give up.

6. Give A Reason For Your Goals

Sometimes, setting a goal by itself is not sufficient to motivate you. Deep down inside each of us, we have a personal reason for setting that goal. For example, setting a goal of earning $100,000 a year. The reason could be so that the family can live in comfort and the children can have the toys they always wanted but couldn't have.

If you can follow these simple 6 key steps, they can give you the drive to succeed in your goals and in life as well. Goal Setting may be clich้ but if you follow and take steps to achieve it, you will achieve the goals in life you wanted. <bio>Ricky Lim is the online editor of a goal setting website at http://goalsetting.selfimprovepedia.com Visit his site today for more info on business goal setting and personal goal setting. </bio>

Leaders recognize that in order to lead effectively they need to give their followers success. Some leaders are concerned that if they reveal their goals to their subordinates there is the possibility that they might miss the goals. The leaders are concerned that they might lose credibility if this happens. While this is certainly a possibility, the risks of not presenting any goals to an organization are likely to be more detrimental that missing a goal occasionally.

If you think of an organization as a game and all of your employees are players in the game, you'll see why having goals is so important. If none of the players understand the rules, it is unlikely that they will have much fulfillment from playing. Even if they lose occasionally, it is better for them to know the rules than feel like they are working toward something that was just random.

When your player/employees understand the rules and how to score (what the goals are), they can enjoy what they are doing. Someone who enjoys their job will be much more productive than someone who is just trudging through the day doing what they are told. The most efficient organizations are those where individuals take personal pleasure in meeting the goals of the organization. The least efficient organizations are those where individuals don't really care anything about the organization's goals or what it is trying to achieve.

Communicating goals doesn't guarantee that your employees will be motivated and love what they do, but if you don't convey goals to your employees at all you can certainly guarantee that they won't be motivated because they won't know where they are going.

Communication is a very important skill for a leader to develop. Without good communication, it is unlikely that they will success. The thoughtful leader is constantly taking the pulse of his organization and looking at how what he said was received--constantly measuring how well people understood what he said and how well they are taking his words and converting them into appropriate action. Good communication doesn't happen on accident. It has to be developed and constantly refined. You have to constantly measure how effective your communication was and make sure it is achieving the desired results.

When it comes to communicating goals, it is important to gauge whether or not the goals you have set are achieving the desired results. Sometimes your goals will need refined to make sure people are heading in an appropriate direction and following your intent not just what you said. <bio>Leadership501 is a website with resources for leaders and people in management positions.
ActionPlan For BlazingSuccess: Defining Your Goals

The goal is a concise, measurable result that you want to produce at a determinable time in the future. Your goals are the stepping-stones toward the materialization of your dreams, the second critical element in the blueprint of your life.

Goals are experiences you have not yet seized, places you have not yet been, people you have not met, a level of income you have not achieved, a type of relationship you are not now enjoying, or having something you don't currently own. Like your dreams, there is no limit to the number of goals you can set other than the limits of your imagination. And although goals identify what you intend to achieve in the future, they are always set and worked on in the present.

A study of university business school graduates who had been out of school for ten years was conducted to determine how they were progressing toward their goals. Amazingly, 83 percent of the graduates had set no goals at all. This 83 percent reported that they were working hard and staying busy but had no specific future plans. Another 14 percent had goals, but their goals were mental, not written. However, this 14 percent was earning on the average three times the income of those who had no goals at all. Only 3 percent of the entire graduate group had written goals. That 3 percent was earning a whopping ten times what those with no goals were earning.

The message is clear: goals, particularly written goals, make the difference in your overall level of accomplishment. Among the business school graduates in the study, the short time they spent establishing clear, written goals made a dramatic difference in their income levels.

Establishing goals has a positive impact on your life. But if what you hope to achieve in life is based on your expectations, rather than on working to reach established goals, you are setting yourself up for the possibility of disappointment. Expectations have to do with how you believe other people should behave, and how the world should bend at your command. Your expectations may result in a large amount of grief, whereas established goals will result in a large amount of satisfaction and success.

The superlative choice is clear: develop your goals, drop your expectations. It is a mistake to expect that you will accomplish any goal because you deserve it or because there is something in your past that entitles you to it. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "deserve." You end up achieving in life because of planning and control, not because you have "paid your dues". <bio>Make Life Magic! http://www.xtrememind.com http://www.JobCentralAsia.com http://www.powerconsultants.net </bio>

You know setting goals is helpful in your life. But what about your kids? Goal setting for kids is not an unattainable concept. It should happen both in schools and at home, as it helps children to develop self-esteem. If necessary, you should sit down with your children and help them set goals. Tell them that if they have a life without goals they will have a life without direction. Goals can give them the all-important power to find their own solutions to everyday problems.

The children should be encouraged to set goals in the different areas of their lives. These should include:

1. Academic/Career. Children can be encouraged to seek higher grades in their studies and to participate in sports. They should be asked to set higher goals in the fields where they show potential to excel.

2. Personal. The importance of character development should be explained, and personal growth and appearance. They should be advised to adopt the best practices in life.

3. Health. They must be taught the value of exercise and a balanced diet, and be encouraged to set goals to improve their fitness level.

4. Community. You should instill a sense of social responsibility in your children by encouraging them to take on volunteer work.

5. Financial. Setting goals in this field helps your children to understand the value of money and the importance of spending it wisely.

6. Friends. Your children need to understand the influence of the company that they keep. Help them develop goals so that they always choose their friends wisely.

7. Household needs. Encourage your children to participate in the running of the house and it will make them good householders one day. Goals should be set for managing the daily chores and making positive contributions to the work around the house.

8. Recreation. Finally, make sure that your child does not grow up before his or her time. Goals should cover things like parties, movies and hobbies as well as the serious stuff.

You must remember, however, that goals can become counter-productive if they are imposed upon children without their cooperation. Goals should be woven into their lives. <bio>Linda Jones contributes to several web sites, such as http://mycur.com and http://nozib.com </bio>

No matter what you do in life, it's important to have a goal to work toward. It gives you something to focus on and something to be proud of when you reach it.

This is especially true when you stay home with your kids, whether or not you work at home. It's so easy to lose sight of everything but raising your family, forgetting your own interests and dreams. But with a little bit of work you can do better not only for yourself but those you care about.

What are your goals? It could be to start a home business, lose weight, be a better parent, start a hobby... there are all kinds of goals. Some will take only a little time to achieve once you decide to go for them, while others may take years.

Finding time to work toward your goals isn't always easy. You will probably have to cut back on something else. It's always a matter of finding the right balance for your life. Most people spend more time than they need to on something that really matters less to them than reaching their goals, if they'd only stop to think about it.

Take a look at your daily activities. Do you spend a lot of time watching TV, chatting on the phone or wandering on the internet? Any of these activities are likely to hold some degree of interest to you, but are they a real priority when compared to your goals? Could you cut an hour or even just 15 minutes a day from one of these activities to work towards one of your goals?

The hardest part of getting things done sometimes is changing old habits. It's so easy to keep doing the same thing. Find what will help you to keep trying. For some people keeping a calendar and writing down what they've achieved will help while for others it will be enough just to know what they've gotten done.

Obviously, for parents it's very important to maintain that balance that keeps your family running. However, many goals can include the kids or the entire family. My daughter loves to exercise, for example, and will come running up to my desk to see if it's time yet.

You could also try working toward your goals as the kids do their homework. It may help them to see you use the self discipline you want them to have about doing homework in order to achieve your goals. Children of all ages learn a great deal from example, and working hard on different things at the same time can be a wonderful experience and a way to share.

Don't forget to reward yourself when you reach your goals. It doesn't have to be much of a reward, but it is just nice to have a way to tell yourself that you've accomplished what you set out to do. <bio>Stephanie Foster owns http://www.homewiththekids.com and enjoys working on her own goals.
Everywhere you look people are telling you to set goals. But maybe it hasn't worked for you and you're wondering why you should bother. How do you set goals that are important, worthwhile, and attainable? How can you set up your goals to provide you with the success you've been looking for? This article will help you review what goals will mean something to you if you achieve them, and show how you can break them down into manageable, measurable steps.

First take a look at the big picture. What do you want to do with your life? Imagine you are listening to your own eulogy, what does it contain? Does it read the way you would have liked it to read? Transfer the things you would like to hear in your eulogy into life goals. These are the things you truly find important in your life.

The next step would be to break down your life goals into smaller pieces, targets you can aim at and hit to reach your lifetime goals. You might have a lifetime goal to have several close friends and a large family, but what are the steps that will get you there? Once you've broken down the steps can they be reduced into even smaller steps? You might find steps which will take a few years, and those steps can be broken into portions that take a few months. The goals that will take a few months can be broken into smaller and smaller steps, and each smaller step can be a goal.

Once you have your goals broken down into the smallest steps possible, write them down. State each goal as a positive statement, since it is much easier to "do" something than to "don't do it". Instead of saying, "I won't eat junk food," say something in the affirmative like, "I eat healthy foods". A goal like this can then be broken into measurable steps like eating one serving of fruit each day. Measurable steps allow you to know when you are accomplishing your goal. The question, "Did I eat one serving of fruit today?" can be answered more precisely than, "Did I not eat any junk food?" Well maybe you didn't eat anything too terrible, but it would be much harder to fudge on a goal as precise as eating one serving of fruit. Either you did or you didn't, easy as that. <bio>Robert Greenshields is a marketing success coach who helps business owners and independent professionals who are frustrated that they're working too many hours for too little reward.
Setting Goals When Dieting

As with most things in life, setting goals is very important when dieting. When you look at things truthfully and objectively you should notice that most of the things you've accomplished in life have been accomplished because you not only had a goal but also had a clearly planned and well thought out process for achieving that goal. That being said, why is goal setting so important when it comes to dieting?

First of all, it is difficult to achieve a goal if you do not have a clearly defined goal. There are times in life when it is almost impossible to tell whether you are succeeding or failing because you aren't certain exactly what the desired outcome should be. Identifying your dieting goals before you begin eliminates this particular possibility.

Second, having dieting goals gives you a measuring stick by which you can judge your process. This is important so that you know when your efforts are failing behind and when you're moving along schedule or ahead of schedule. In other words, you will know when to celebrate and when to give yourself a swift kick to the rear.

Now that we know why we set weight loss goals, let's discuss how we should go about setting those goals that are so important for dieting success. You want to set goals that are aggressive without being impossible to achieve. If you set goals that are beyond your reach you will find that frustration will be your dieting partner until you reach the point where you give up all together. In order to avoid this you should take great care to insure that your goals are possible for you to achieve.

When it comes to weight loss be specific when setting your goals. Rather than setting a total goal of 40 or 60 pounds start with a specific goal such as 10 pounds in one month. Then you can extend the goal to the next month until you've reached the overall goal of 40 or 60 pounds. It is much easier to lose 10 pounds four times than it is to lose 40 pounds at once. It's a trick of the mind but it works. Ten pounds sounds simple and achievable. Forty pounds sounds like an insurmountable obstacle.

Another thing about goals is that you want to hold yourself accountable but you shouldn't call the whole thing off if you only lose 9 pounds instead of 10. Instead, find out where you dropped the ball for the final pound and set your 10-pound goal for the next month.

You should also take great care that you are working with your personal goals and not the goals that someone else is pushing on you. The truth is that if it's personal to you, it will be much more rewarding than if you are doing this for someone else. If your heart isn't in it, there are very few goals that are going to motivate you properly.

Finally, you should establish small (non-food) rewards for accomplishing your dieting goals. Perhaps your reward will be a new accessory for your new (or new old) wardrobe or a pedicure for your new look. Make your reward something fun and frivolous and teach yourself that accomplishing your goals can be accomplished by something other than food. This is a key to dieting successfully. <bio>http://www.quick-ways-to-lose-weight.com </bio>

Have you set goals for yourself only to fail to achieve them?

You need to follow sound goal setting techniques if you want to achieve your dreams. These techniques may be based on your own understanding of various issues, or on advice given by your parents, professional counselors, and seniors. But, no matter where they come from, they can make a big difference between success and failure.

The first thing you need to do is write down your goals. Remember that until a goal is committed to paper, it is not a goal; it is simply a desire. You also need to write down the benefits that you hope to achieve.

The next step is to pick a deadline and determine your current state of preparedness to achieve the goal. You should also identify which problems you are likely to face. This will make you mentally ready to conquer them.

You need to often review your course of action. This gives you a chance to change your goals based on your revised circumstances and needs. It is also good to surround yourself with people who are positive about your approach and who will cheer you on. Keep away from those who belittle you all the time. They can do more harm than good by trying to dissuade you from achieving your goals.

Your goals must arise out of your belief in your capabilities. This is very important, because no goal can be achieved that is not based on self-confidence. Motivation is another important psychological factor. In fact, motivation and goal setting are like two sides of the same coin. Your goal cannot be achieved without both of them.

Finally, all your goals should have several short-term targets and a long-term target. The short-term targets (or sub-goals) should have deadlines, and should merge with each other in seamlessly. You should review your goals periodically and modify them when and if your needs and circumstances change. These techniques are the best way to set and achieve goals. <bio>Patricia Johnson writes for several online magazines, including http://lajop.com and http://lotuv.com </bio>

You probably have an idea of how much weight you want to lose, but have you really made a commitment? When you set a goal - and write it down - you are, in fact, taking the first step to committing yourself to achieve that goal.

There are four requirements in setting your weight loss goals:

1. Your goal must be reasonable and achievable.

2. You must set a time frame for achieving your goal.

3. What is the main reason or motivation to reach your goal?

4. What weight would you be satisfied with if you can't quite meet your initial goal?

Now, set some workable goals for the next several months. Make sure these goals are ones that you are willing and able to work toward during that time. Keep the acronym, TRIM, in mind while setting your goals. TRIM will help remind you of the four requirements mentioned above.

T: Time - An effective goal should have a deadline. Choose some date in the future. In our example we'll say three months.

R: Realistic - If you try to set a goal you can't reach, you're setting yourself up for failure. Make sure it is a goal you can reach.

I: Inspiring - Your goal should be something that really matters to you; achievable but challenging enough to make it exciting.

M: Measurable - A goal must be measurable. Otherwise, you will never know when you have reached it!

Make your goal as specific as possible. Instead of saying, andquot;I want to lose weight.andquot; say, andquot;I will lose ten pounds by September 1st.andquot;

Make a least two other goals, such as fitting into a certain pair of jeans or exercising, for a period of time besides making the goal to lose weight,. These would be andquot;subandquot; goals. So, if you don't reach your weight goal, you can still feel some success by reaching another goal. This will keep you motivated to keep trying.

For example, you could be replacing fat with muscle (which weights more than fat). You're looking and feeling better but the numbers on your scale haven't changed. You won't be disappointed about the weight on your scale because you will fit into those jeans again and you will have succeeded in reaching one of your goals!

Once you have decided on your reasonable and measurable goals, write them down. Make a contract with yourself to work toward those goals.

Why do you need a contract? Because just because you have some goals, it doesn't mean that you have committed to them. Make a promise to yourself in writing. You could even have a friend or family member witness it for you to make it more official. It will also give you extra motivation to keep the contract.

Use the TRIM method of setting goals for weight loss and you will have more success in reaching those goals than just having a vague idea of how much weight you want to lose. <bio>Jude Wright is the owner of andquot;9 Weeks to Weight Lossandquot; at http://9weekstoweightloss.com .
Personal development is important to grow and change as a person. Learning how to change yourself will enable you to have control over your life. A plan is important as well because you will need to have an attainable goal. You can create this plan yourself. You know what goals you would like to reach and exactly what you are capable of. To create your own plan sit down and write out your goals in business or in life, a plan will need a timeline and a break down of exactly what goals you want to have reached and when. Having this plan for your life and for your business will help you to reach the goals you set for yourself.

If you are a self motivator once you have written up your own personal development plan and set forth your goals you will have no problems obtaining those goals. However more people in this world often need motivators to get the job done. Sometimes a reward of getting your goals accomplished is enough and other times people need a coach to help them along. A personal development coach is someone who will help you learn new things, can help you reach your goals, can help manage your life, can help you make changes in your life to become more successful, and is there to support you. A personal development coach can be a trusted individual that will be on your side and help you reach your own goals.

Remember to be patient with yourself and allow some flexibility in your personal development plan. Patience is the key to keeping yourself from being overwhelmed and giving up on your own goals. Your plan should allow you a realistic time frame to reach your goals. Dreams can come true one step at a time, and each goal reached is a dream realized. Being flexible with your own personal development plan is also important because sometimes life can change. Creating a plan that is reactive to things that will naturally occur will allow you to not be stressed over these occurrences. If you have a coach they can help you understand how to accomplish this task while writing your plan. A big part of the process is to learn how to adapt and grow as a person, and flexibility is a big part of that.

If you are unsure how to go about creating your own personal development plan finding a professional life coach, or a personal development coach will be a great asset to you. It is their job to understand and teach you how to create the plan, and follow it. Unlike a therapist, a personal development coach is ready to look toward your future instead of digging into your past. <bio>Jim Biscardi is owner of Dynamic Wealth Systems, LLC and writes on a variety of subjects.
