The septic tank holds all the waste the house produces and holds it in different spots, while some of the solids are held in the bottom of the septic tank they are there for some time until they disappear because of normal decomposing, the process does not happen for the liquids that are collected din the tank since the whole thing needs to be pumped anyway.

The important thing about a septic tank is that it is strong and durable, that the quality of the collecting and holding of the waste will be good and that it will able you to maintain normal life and regular water use as long as you se a good pumping service, a good septic tank will be serviced and will last for many years without needing any attention from the home owner, this means that quality septic tanks will allow a regular life just like any other home in any city or other place, without really feeling that it is a septic tank that collects the waste and not a drainage system.

The one thing that home owners need to take care of is that there is a good pumping service that will take care of their septic tank on regular basis, the people who run the pumping services are septic tank experts and will make sure that the whole water disposal service is not causing any trouble to anyone living in the house, once you got a quality septic tank and a good pumping service you will not think about the waste water any more, just like almost every else does not. <bio>Daniel Roshard is an interior designer fascinated by outdoor architecture, currently studying public parks and outdoor design.
Most rural homes are not connected to a mains sewage system. These homes rely on a self-contained sewage treatment plant called a septic tank.

If you have a septic tank, or are considering the purchase of a home with one, there are life-saving facts you need to know about septic tanks.

A septic tank takes the sewage from the house, the solids settle out and grease floats to the top. Between the two layers is a clear watery layer that is piped away to an absorption area where it is allowed to percolate away, through the soil. Soil bacteria break down any nutrients before the sewage reaches the water bearing rocks, or any streams.

Septic tanks are usually buried in the ground. There are three main types, all of which cause different concerns.

Steel tanks rust, especially when buried in the ground. A steel septic tank can be so corroded that it can lead to someone walking over it falling through and into the tank. The hapless person is suffocated by the methane generated in the tank, or drowns.

Concrete tanks may be damaged internally, leading to permanent and expensive to rectify damage to the absorption drain-field.

The worst tanks are those built from concrete blocks on site. Sometimes the blocks are just laid and not cemented together. Even if they are cemented together years of attack from acidic sewage will dissolve the mortar. These tanks can collapse without warning and probably fail to meet local planning and environmental protection regulations.

How do you tell if your septic tank has problems? If there are ANY areas of sunken ground around it STAY AWAY. Call in a contractor immediately. If you step on these areas you could fall through, into the septic tank and die. These are signs that your septic tank has partially collapsed.

Check for signs of solid sewage material in the drain-field area. If the drain-field has been contaminated because the septic tank has not been pumped out regularly, this can be very expensive to rectify.

If you are buying a home with a septic tank, you should insist on the tank being pumped out and an investigation by a septic tank contractor carried out. It is not possible to examine a septic tank properly while it is full.

You may have to pay for a contractor to give you a report, but this will be a tiny amount compared to the cost of any necessary remedial work <bio>Loreno Lepe has a background in the construction industries.
If you have the misfortune of having bacterial infection in your joint cavity, you will most certainly be suffering from perhaps the most dangerous of all kinds of acute arthritis that is known as septic arthritis. The bacteria spread from a primary site and in most instances it is found right next to the bone or the soft tissue and will spread through patient's bloodstream. However, such a condition is known to affect only a very miniscule number of people.

However, septic arthritis is more common among patients of rheumatoid arthritis and it affects, it is believed, about thirty to seventy people in a population of a hundred thousand people that are rheumatoid arthritis patients. The factors that can cause septic arthritis are many, and if there is a simultaneous presence of bacterial infection, the chances of affected by septic arthritis are greatly increased.

If you suffer from chronic ailments such as renal failure, cirrhosis, malignancy as well as diabetes then you will be at a greater risk of contracting septic arthritis. It will further increase if your immune system is weak, or if you previously have had immunosuppressive therapy. And, it has been noticed that alcoholics and also those who have been suffering from extended bouts of using intravenous drugs and even drug addicts are at a greater risk of contracting septic arthritis.

What's worse is that septic arthritis comes on all of a sudden, and its symptoms include extreme pain, inflammation and swollen affected joints, which are also accompanied with chills as well as fever. Sometimes, the joint that has been infected can cause the patient to become immobile. And, if that was not bad enough, septic arthritis can also affect your bigger limbs of which the knee is a prime example.

There are a number of different means used by doctors to diagnose septic arthritis. The use of Gram's stain may show septic arthritis, and the use of x-rays, radioisotope joint scan as well as determining the amount of white blood count is other means used to diagnose the problem. The most common treatment or therapy used for such a condition is antibiotic therapy which should ideally begin as soon as the symptoms are noticed, and identified. The main aim of such antibiotic therapy is to eliminate the infection, and if a patient is given such treatment within a week of onset of the infection, he or she would be able to recuperate faster than those who are treated a month after the infection has been diagnosed.

For more information check http://www.arthritisreliefhelp.info <bio>Roger Thompson writes articles on arthritis and pain relief for http://arthritisrelief.info </bio>

If you are moving into a new home, particularly a rural property there are a few simple precautions you should take in relation to sewage problems.

Sewage blockages happen everywhere, and septic tanks need emptying regularly. When people are selling their homes they often skimp on the maintenance side of things and problems mount up.

If you have a blocked drain, or suspect septic tank problems, you need to be wary of opening drain covers, because of the possible build up of toxic gases. This is especially so if you are moving into a property that has been vacant for some time. If there are depressions in the ground near your septic tank, stay well away from the area until a professional survey has been carried out. Find more help on septic tanks at http://www.septic-tank-services.info

Most people will recognize hydrogen sulfide as one of the gases given off by stink bombs.

Did you know that hydrogen sulfide gas is more poisonous than hydrogen cyanide? Luckily you can smell it long before it reaches toxic concentrations. As the concentration increases, you lose the ability to smell the gas. This should be taken as a danger sign and a signal to move rapidly away from the area.

When sewage backs up due to a blockage, bacteria produce hydrogen sulfide gas and the concentration can build up to fatal levels underneath the manhole cover. If the gas is not immediately present there is still a danger. When someone pushes a drain rod through the pipe, it stirs up the sewage. This process causes Hydrogen sulfide to be released in high concentrations.

This gas can cause death by respiratory failure and victims often fall into the sewage. Rescuers who are not equipped with respirators are themselves at great risk and care needs to be taken if the incident is not going to be made worse. <bio>Loreno Lepe has a background in the chemical and construction industries.
Some people say that, like any device for animal training, a shock collar should be used in moderation and should strive to be both effective and humane. Shock collars used for dogs really do the job but some people believe that their excessive use borders on animal cruelty. Many activists are opposed to its use because of this.

The Association of Pet Behavior Counselors has a statement opposing the widespread application of the shock collar for most dogs. They don't go so far as recommending the banning of the product entirely, but feel the use of the product needs to be done in a controlled fashion. When used moderately during the training process, the shock collar can generate great results without being cruel to the dog. Excessive use should be avoided.

The primary purpose of shock collars is to deter negative behavior a dog or other animal is doing. They are primarily used during the training of the animal and are not often needed afterward. The device works by delivering a small electric shock to the animal's neck in order to shape the behavior of the animal during the training process. Behaviorist Psychology is behind this particular approach to training.

Unfortunately, the Association of Pet Behavior Counselors believe that owners can unintentionally misuse the shock collar and harm their animal during the process. Because the owner himself isn't well trained in using the collar, he can cause great pain or discomfort in his pet. Using the shock collar can also be a source of considerable distress in the animal -- even when the owner thinks he is using it properly.

In a nutshell, it's just too easy to use a shock collar excessively and use it during times in which it is inappropriate to use such a device. The animal will associate the shock with whatever it was doing when the shock was delivered and can easily become confused about what behaviors are appropriate and what behaviors are not. It's too simple to accidentally shock your animal when you didn't mean to.

An inappropriately used shock collar for your dog can result in the inaccurate association of pain with normal things -- like the owner, certain foods or an inanimate object. This is a serious problem that can lead to unintended and dangerous consequences. The animal can become afraid of almost everything that has become associated with pain. The dog can become aggressive and fearful around people, children, or food -- perceiving a threat that actually isn't real.

Such a collar can go awry and cause problems if not used properly on the animal. It is imperative that users of shock collars take the time to understand the device and learn how to properly train an animal while using one. As an effective animal trainer, it's important that you train yourself first. <bio>Read more from Claire Quaty at: http://www.pets-mag.com </bio>

You may have heard about the illness toxic shock syndrome (TSS) from magazines or from friends, but do you know why it is important to be aware of this illness? Would you recognize the symptoms? TSS is an extremely rare but potentially serious illness that can affect anyone.

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a serious but uncommon bacterial infection. TSS was originally linked to the use of tampons, but it is now also known to be associated with the contraceptive sponge and diaphragm birth control methods. In rare cases, TSS has resulted from wounds or surgery incisions where bacteria have been able to enter the body and cause the infection.

Anyone can get TSS -- men, women and children. Half the reported cases of TSS are associated with women using tampons; half result from localized infections, for example following burns, boils, insect bites or surgery. The risk of TSS is greater in younger people. This is because older people are more likely to have the necessary antibodies to protect them from the toxin that causes TSS.

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a type of blood poisoning that will make you feel severely ill very quickly. TSS is a rare but potentially serious illness that can develop quickly in anyone -- men, women and children.

TSS is caused by the common bacteria -- Staphylococcus aureus -- which normally live harmlessly on the skin and in the nose, armpit, groin or vagina of one in every three people. In rare cases certain strains of these bacteria can produce toxins (poisons) that cause TSS.

With early diagnosis TSS can be treated with antibiotics to kill the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and other medicines which help counteract the symptoms.

You can reduce your chances of getting toxic shock syndrome by changing your tampon frequently, at least every four to eight hours. Use the lowest absorbency tampon you can and try to alternate using tampons and sanitary napkins whenever possible.

Toxic shock syndrome can recur. People who've had it once can get it again. If you've had toxic shock syndrome or a prior staph infection, don't use tampons at all. <bio>Can Toxic Shock Syndrome Be Prevented?
All dogs will need some training as without training, a dog will be a dog and do what dogs typically do. A dog training collar can help reinforce commands and signals and help the dog not only alter its natural behavior but also learn what the owner wants it to do.

Usually a dog training collar will emit a small shock when the person offering the training presses a button on the remote control. When the dog feels the shock, applied usually to the throat, and hears the negative command, chances are they will stop the behavior that resulted in slight pain. Once the dog understands that a firm no means a shock is coming, the dog training collar may not be needed.

If your dog barks a lot a dog training collar can shock the dog everytime the dog barks. Normally the dog will learn pretty quickly that if it barks it will be shocked and will decide that barking is not worth the pain. For those who shy away from shocking their animal, a no-bark dog training collar has been developed that emits a short spray of a lemon scented mist towards the dog's nose. Its unpleasant odor will remind the dog not to bark, without the electric shock.

Shocks Can Help Guide Your Dog

Some dog owners and professional trainers are using electric dog training collars as part of a training regimen to help the dog learn new tricks, and not just to stay off the furniture and not to jump up on people. Usually if you slap your leg and tell the dog to come, you will probably get a dumb look. If you tell him to come and he gets a slight unpleasant shock, he may listen a little better.

If you are using a radio fence containment system you must make sure it is installed correctly and there is no threat of serious injury to your pet. Keep in mind that once your dog when wearing its dog training collar knows where its boundaries are even if you shut off the power to the underground fence, the dog will be reluctant to cross that line, even at your urging.

You should also keep in mind that a dog training collar is not something the dog needs to wear its entire life. Once their behavior can be changed by the issuance of verbal commands, the collar has done its job. <bio>For more information on dog collars vist http://www.leather-dog-collar.com </bio>

Generally, the process includes three major areas which are excavation and grading, foundation formation, and utility access which includes water, sewage and other utilities.

Excavation is required for the foundation "hole," as well as any needed access for the crane and crew. The degree of excavation depends on your lot's terrain and soil composition. If it is heavily wooded, greater amount of clearing will be needed so that the foundation hole can be made and so that the modules can be delivered. The crane that places the modules on the foundation will also need appropriate room to set up. If there is an abundance of ledge or rock on the site, blasting and subsequent landfill may also be needed. Each of these cost more or less depending on the lot's character.

Foundations are critical for modular homes, and a structural or foundation engineer is needed to make sure it is done correctly. Modular homes cannot be placed on slabs, but instead must have a 4 foot elevation minimum. If you are building in a colder climate, foundations wall must also be 4 feet I below the ground to prevent frost from causing movement of the structure as it freezes and expands. Depending on whether you have a crawl space or a basement, this means the foundation walls can be up to 12 feet in height. The most important factor is having a level foundation platform for your modular home. The platform itself must be within inch of being perfectly level to ensure proper attachment of the modular components.

Utility access is also a must for your site before the arrival of your modular home. Trenches may need to be dug for electrical, cable and telephone lines so that your home can connect to community services. Some locations have accessible water and sewage lines, whereas others do not. If these are not available, septic systems will need to be developed, and wells will need to be created to service your home. These are necessary to have completed before the set crew arrives.

If a septic system is needed, a septic design must be created by a licensed engineer or sanitation expert. Every building lot has a rating that described how long it takes water to percolate through the soil, and therefore, this determines where or if a septic system can be placed. Depending on your lot, this could require additional excavation, landfill, and technical expertise (all of which add to the cost). Likewise, well can be dug for water access, but it is impossible to know how deep and how much metal casing will be required in the process. The deeper the source, the greater the pump pressure requirements for assuring water availability to your home.

Each of these tasks must be performed and completed so that smooth installation can occur the day your modular home arrives. Unlike a site-built home construction which has to be either delayed or interrupted during the site preparation process, your site can be completed while your home is being built in the manufacturing plant. This increases efficiency and saves a tremendous amount of costs.<bio>Michael Zenga is a Modular Home Builder in the Boston, MA area.
With the rapid changes in society these days, behavioral scientists have put an increasing emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of culture shock, those feeing of anxiety and disorientation that affect people who have to suddenly function within a new and different social environment. Culture shock affects individuals who move to another country or sometimes to a different state, for example, from rural North Carolina to urban Southern California. In the case of moving from one country to another, culture shock oftentimes takes on a severe form.

There are three main phases of culture shock and sufferers do not necessarily pass through all of them. They are explained here in layman's terms.

The Honeymoon Phase is usually the first phase of culture shock. When someone is in this state, he considers the differences between his new environment and his old one as wonderful and romantic. He views his new surroundings as a welcome and pleasant change. He may fall in love with the new pace of his life, the new people he meets and the new relationships he develops. Overall, he embraces with open arms the lifestyle, environment, food and practically everything about his new environment.

The andquot;Everything is Awfulandquot; phase sometimes occurs in a few days, but can also take weeks or even months. In this phase, the differences between the new environment and the old one have become irritating and tiresome, especially the minor differences. Al of a sudden, one finds himself longing for a taste of the food back home or for the friends that he left behind. Suddenly, the pace and lifestyle of his new life are either too slow or too fast. The habits of his new acquaintances have become annoying. The novelty of the new place has worn off.

The andquot;Everything is OKandquot; phase, like the previous phase, may take days, weeks or months to manifest itself. At this stage, one has learned to adjust to the new surroundings and overcome his feeling of homesickness. He has become accustomed to the new routines and rhythms of his new society. In fact, at this point, he may no longer consider it as a new society, but rather as his new home. His concerns now revert back to the everyday business of basic living, same as in his previous environment.

Finally, there is also Reverse Culture Shock, which is when he feels any or all of the above phases upon his return to his old environment. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://aboutoursociety.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://tipsforgardening.net/ and http://religioninformation.net/ </bio>

How do you keep your metabolism from stalling? You shock it with change all the time. Not letting it get into a routine will keep your metabolism from slowing down and causing you to gain weight. It will even help to lose weight you want to get rid of because you will start burning the fat already there to make up for what your body isn't getting as you change your eating habits all the time.

This may sound difficult but it really isn't. It's just a matter of eating different things every few days so your metabolism doesn't have the chance to get used to what you are eating and stop. It also helps to eat foods that are fat burning compatible, meaning they will help keep your metabolism high all the time. This doesn't mean you will be depriving yourself of something because it's not fat burning compatible, but will be added to every meal to help your metabolism. It's going to let you have your cake and eat it too. This is because the foods that are fat burning compatible will help to keep from you getting fat off the foods you eat that are not. It will balance you out in the end and you don't have to give anything up to stay thin. Balancing out what you eat at every meal and changing what you eat as well, will keep your metabolism guessing and going strong all the time. So no matter what you want to eat, you won't gain weight from having something other diets deem as bad for you. If your system is always in shock, it can't relax and add fat to your body. And that's the real answer to keeping your metabolism high, constant shock. <bio>Learn The Diet and Weight Loss Secrets of Bodybuilders and Fitness Models: Visit Here: http://www.ginster-web.com/weightloss </bio>

Who wouldn't want a well trained dog that everyone enjoys having around? Let's face it. No one wants a dog that bites, nips, barks, digs, jumps, begs or growls, but how do you achieve the preferred behaviors and eliminate the unwanted ones? Simply put, the answer is training. At the very least, you want your dog to know and obey the basic commands of sit, stay, come, down and heel.

Maybe you can get your dog to obey when he is on a leash but the second he is loose, you have lost all control. Not only is this a cause for major frustration, it also puts your dog at risk from any one of a number of hazards. So how do you train your dog to obey on and off the leash? The simple solution is a remote dog training collars.

Having been used by professional trainers for years, remote dog training collars are gaining recognition and popularity with pet owners as a means of achieving their goals of owning a well trained dog who listens on and off the leash.

Unfortunately, for many years, the only type of remote dog training collars available were shock collars. However, with the breakthrough technology of citronella remote dog training collars a few years ago, another option was made available. You can now have an effective, humane aid to train your pet. A citronella remote dog training collar is the safe alternative to a shock collar. Dogs will respond faster when using a remote dog training collar that does NOT cause pain or anxiety.

A shock collar causes both. Although the citronella remote dog training collar is an electronic dog training collar, it is not a shock collar. It uses a gentle spray of citronella which causes a disruptive stimulus. It has been found that using the citronella spray collar along with positive reinforcement is more than twice as effective as an electric shock collar for behavior modification. When you inflict pain with a shock collar, you may very well increase anxiety and aggression in your dog, making behavior problems even worse.

According to current statistics there are approximately 74.8 million dogs living in 44.8 million households across the United States. Train your dog to be one of the well behaved ones. To teach a new behavior, reward your dog 100% of the time he offers you the correct response. To maintain a behavior that has been learned, reward your dog intermittently and unpredictably. Remember that perseverance and consistent training will help you achieve your goal of the well behaved pet. <bio>With a house full of abandoned and or abused animals, I found the need to start http://www.mypetspecialties.com , a website dedicated to providing safety products and humane training aids like citronella remote dog training collars to responsible pet owners. </bio>

The wireless dog fence is an invisible fence that contains your dog within its perimeter. Unlike the underground invisible fence, the wireless dog fence does require cables to be laid underground. Instead, the wireless dog fence is activated by a transmitter.

The transmitter is placed in a central location on the property. The transmitter may be placed in an inconspicuous location in the home. The transmitter may be set up to allow the dog movement within a smaller or larger sized area. When the intended area is determined and the transmitter is in place, the wireless fence collar is placed on the dog.

The collar acts as a receiver for the signal sent out by the transmitter. If the dog reaches an area that is close to the perimeter of the containment area, the dog receives a low grade shock. This small shock is enough to send the dog in the other direction. Through the wireless dog fence, the dog quickly learns which areas are out of bounds.

Many dogs benefit from learning about the containment area before being left inside the wireless fence. Typical training for the wireless fence includes voice commands and the use of flags to mark out the area where the dog can move around without receiving a shock. Within a week of the commencement of training, the dog will easily and safely learn about its boundaries without any negative effects. Many wireless fence systems will give a dog a warning sound before the mild electrical shock is given.

It is important that a dog learn about the wireless fence before it is contained in one. The mild shock has been known to frighten an unsuspecting dog. Some dogs may not want to go into the yard again if they have been badly frightened from the correctional shock. Training with a wireless fence can begin when a dog is five or six months old.

The wireless fencing system will contain as many dogs as there are on the property. As long as all dogs are wearing a receiver collar, the wireless fence will protect the dogs from leaving the fence perimeter.

It is easy to maintain a wireless fence. Without any wires that could be damaged, all the customer has to do is replace the receiver collar or transmitter as necessary. Transmitter and receiver batteries will have to be replaced occasionally too. It is recommended that the owner of a wireless fence keep replacement parts handy so that when necessary, the transmitter or receiver collar can be replaced without shutting the system down. This will prevent the occurrence of the dog running away when the dog discovers that the fence is not working.

With just two main components, it is easy to set up a wireless dog fence. Wireless dog fences keep a dog contained without the need to build a traditional fence or the digging that is necessary with a underground dog fence. Pets will remain safely inside their perimeter and the owner does not have to worry about runaway pets anymore.<bio>If you are looking for information about invisible dog fences or a wireless dog fence our guide outlines everything you need to know.</bio>

In this article we will look at a more natural way of controlling a dog's barking compared to the more usual system of shock collars. We are particularly going to look at the citronella dog collar as a more effective type of dog bark collar. In research carried out it has been found that the citronella dog collar is twice as effective as many other types of dog bark collars that are available especially the shock versions. This efficiency is put down to the use of the citronella solution which is present in the collar.

So when it comes to calming that "nuisance barking dog" then a spritz of fragrance under the chin has often been found to be more effective than an electronic shock. This is was found after various tests were carried out by the Animal Behavior Clinic at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine. In fact in a report carried in the American Animal Hospital Association Journal of May-June 1996 they found owners who tried the two types of anti-barking collar available preferred the citronella version to the electric shock version.

The citronella dog collar contains a reservoir of citronella solution and will spray a small amount at the dog's face when they commence barking. It is not only considered a humane way of dealing with nuisance barking but in studies carried out it is reported to be 88% effective. However, there is one drawback to be had from using this type of collar and that is the sensitivity of the microphone contained within it. So the microphone is there to trigger the spray at the sound of the dog's bark, but unfortunately it has been found that other noises can set off the collar, which will result in a dog being sprayed even when it hasn't barked. Also there have been cases when a dog has realized that the reservoir containing the citronella solution is empty and so commenced barking again.

So if you happen to be looking for a more effective way of controlling your dog's nuisance barking then a citronella dog collar may be the right choice for you. Especially if you are looking for a more humane way of dealing with the problem. <bio>Lee Dobbins writes for http://dogcollars.topicgiant.com where you can learn more about all types of dog collars. </bio>

Many people incorrectly believe that TSS only affects women, when in fact it can affect anyone - men, women and children. TSS has occurred in all races, although most cases have been reported from North America and Europe.

What Is Toxic Shock Syndrome? There are actually two different types of this condition. Toxic shock syndrome, which is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, has been associated with the use of tampons. (TSS was initially linked to a particular brand of tampons, which have since been taken off the market.) Although the exact connection is still not clear, researchers suspect that certain types of high-absorbency tampons provided a moist, warm home where the bacteria could thrive.

Although TSS usually occurs in menstruating women, it can affect anyone who has any type of staph infection, including pneumonia, abscess, skin or wound infection, a blood infection called septicemia, or a bone infection called Osteomyelitis.

A related infection, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, or STSS, is caused by streptococcus bacteria. Most often STSS appears after streptococcus bacteria have invaded areas of injured skin, such as cuts and scrapes, surgical wounds, and even chickenpox blisters. It almost never follows a simple streptococcus throat infection

Symptoms

Toxic shock syndrome Toxic shock syndrome from staphylococcus starts suddenly with vomiting, high fever (temperature at least 102 degrees Fahrenheit [38.8 degrees Celsius]), a rapid drop in blood pressure (with lightheadedness or fainting), watery diarrhea, headache, sore throat, and muscle aches. Within 24 hours, a sunburn-like rash appears. There also may be bloodshot eyes and an unusual redness under the eyelids or inside the mouth (and vagina in females). After that, broken blood vessels may appear on the skin. Other symptoms may include: confusion or other mental changes; decreased urination; fatigue and weakness; thirst; weak and rapid pulse; pale, cool, moist skin; and rapid breathing.

Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome can happen following a streptococcus infection in the body, most often a skin infection or an infected wound. Within 48 hours of infection, the person's blood pressure drops dangerously low, and he or she may have fever, dizziness, confusion, difficulty breathing, and a weak and rapid pulse. The skin may be pale, cool, and moist, and there may be a blotchy rash that sometimes peels. The area around an infected wound can become swollen, red, and have areas of severely damaged or dying flesh. The liver and kidneys may begin to fail, and bleeding problems may develop.

If you develop toxic shock syndrome, you'll likely be hospitalized and need antibiotics. Doctors will try to determine the source of the infection. Along with antibiotics, you'll receive supportive care to treat the signs and symptoms of toxic shock syndrome. If your blood pressure begins to drop (hypotension), you'll need medication to stabilize it and fluids to prevent dehydration. The toxins produced by the staph bacteria may result in kidney failure. If your kidneys fail, you may need dialysis. <bio>Can Toxic Shock Syndrome Be Prevented?
In a previous article I discussed what bursitis is and why it develops. In this article I'll talk about some of the more common types of arthritis. Let's start from the top and work down.

In the shoulder there is a large bursa called the subdeltoid bursa. This sits underneath the deltoid muscle which lies on the side of the upper arm at the shoulder. This is also called the subacromial bursa. Bursitis in this area presents with aching soreness in the shoulder that is aggravated by movement. Pain is present at night also. Overactivity is the usual cause and it's common for rotator cuff tendonitis to coexist with this type of bursitis.

The olecrenon bursa is located at the tip of the elbow. Bursitis can develop as a a result of excessive pressure (eg., leaning on the elbow on a hard surface) or after significant trauma. One complication of this type of bursitis is that it can be become infected. The usual organism associated with septic bursitis is staph aureus. The treatment for septic bursitis is to drain the affected bursa and treat with antibiotics. Oral antibiotics usually work but intravenous antibiotics are sometimes needed.

The hip is an area where a number of different types of bursitis can occur. Prolonged sitting on a hard surface leads to ischiogluteal bursitis. This is a nagging type of bursitis located in the buttock region.

Iliopectineal bursitis is located in the groin area and is aggravated by walking, running, and going up stairs.

Trochanteric bursitis is located at the outside of the hip. This type of bursitis often occurs in overweight people and is aggravated by walking, going up stairs, and lying on the affected side.

Gluteus medius bursitis looks a lot like trochanteric bursitis. The location is usually a bit posterior to the trochanteric bursa.

Bursitis in the knee can be located either in front of the patella (prepatellar bursitis) or just below the knee along the inside of the upper part of the lower leg bone (tibia). This is called anserine bursitis. Prepatellar bursitis, as is the case with olecrenon bursitis, can become septic.

Bursitis in the ankle can occur at the back of the heel beneath the Achilles tendon. Usually overactivity such as running too much can cause this type of bursitis. Rest, ice, and sometimes anti-inflammatory drugs are useful. Steroid injections should be used with great caution in this area because of the possibility of weakening the Achilles tendon. This situation can lead to rupture of the tendon.

Bursitis occurring at the base of the fifth toe is called a bunionette and bursitis opccurring at the side of the large toe is called a bunion. Osteoarthritis is the usual underlying cause of the bursitis. Special padding and injections of glucocorticoids are helpful treatments.

Patients with inflammatory diseases such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis can also develop bursitis. Any patient with recurrent bursitis should be evaluated for an underlying condition that may be predisposing them to getting bursitis.

The diagnosis of bursitis and the treatment is not an easy one. A well-qualified rheumatologist or orthopedist should be consulted. If injection is required, ultrasound needle guidance is recommended. <bio>Nathan Wei, MD FACP FACR is a rheumatologist and Director of the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Maryland.
RC car racers have to make it a point that collision should be the last thing that can damage their vehicle. But, with the speed RC cars are capable of doing while on track, collision is a common scenario. If you are a newbie to handling RC cars as a hobby, there are some basics that you need to know. These basics are good for the type of RC vehicle that you own and for your own knowledge in RC racing.

First of all, shock absorbers or as it is popularly known, shocks, keep the vehicle suspended parallel to the tires and ground below it. A good set of shocks assure the owner that the chassis of a RC car doesn't touch the track nor does it cause the tires of the car to stray away. Keeping a good set of shock absorbers is the tricky part, so before entering any racing competition, test several set of shocks which you think would be effective in keeping your RC car chassis off of the racetrack.

Everybody knows that shock absorbers consist of a good set of springs as this allows the car to maintain the standard height from 0 level. For better performance though, a soft type of spring is preferred. As mentioned, it is better for you to test several springs at a time before entering a competition. You'll be the judge of the height of the chassis from the ground and whether the "feel" of the spring already suffices your preference.

To put your RC car under smooth control even if it bumps another car on track or experiences an ordinary bump, be sure you have the right amount of shock oil absorbed on the springs of the car. An appropriately positioned pistons absorb the excess energy caused from a collision or impact. This results to the steady motion of a vehicle.

Keeping your RC car free from unsteady movement and unnecessary bounce will give you peace of mind when driving it around or even when in a competition. <bio>Racing Radio Controlled Cars http://racing-radio-controlled-cars.com is a perfect site in the internet to learn all about RC cars, tips on racing and maintenance. </bio>

So when it comes to calming that andquot;nuisance barking dogandquot; then a spritz of fragrance under the chin has often been found to be more effective than an electronic shock.

</bio>

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) describes a cluster of symptoms that involve many systems of the body. The following bacteria commonly cause TSS:

1. Staphylococcus aureus 2. Streptococcus pyogenes

TSS from Staphylococcus infections was identified in the late 70s and early 80s when highly absorbent tampons were widely used in menstruating women. Due to manufacturing changes in tampons, the incidence of tampon-induced TSS has diminished by more than 40 percent.

Symptoms of TSS involve many systems and may resemble other infections.

The symptoms of TSS include sudden high fever, a faint feeling, watery diarrhea, headache, and muscle aches. If your child has these symptoms, it's important to call your child's doctor right away.

TSS can occur whenever a nonimmune person is exposed to a TSS toxin. Illness is said to be andquot;menstrualandquot; if it occurs during the menstrual period and andquot;nonmenstrualandquot; if at other times. Each category accounts for about half of cases. The risk of TSS is greater in younger than in older people, the acquisition of protective antibodies being a function of age.

Prevention

The bacteria that cause toxic shock syndrome can be carried on unwashed hands and prompt an infection anywhere on the body. So hand washing is extremely important.

How is toxic shock syndrome transmitted?

1. Staphylococcus infections

2. Staphylococcus aureus may normally exist in a person's nose or vagina and does not cause infection. Because it is part of the body's normal bacteria, 90 percent of individuals develop antibodies to prevent infection. S. aureus can be transmitted by direct contact with infected persons. Individuals who develop TSS usually have not developed antibodies against S. aureus. Therefore, it is not usually considered a contagious infection. S. aureus infections may also occur from another infection such as pneumonia, sinusitis, osteomyelitis (infection in the bone), or skin wounds such as a burn or surgical site. If any of these areas are infected, the bacteria can penetrate into the bloodstream. <bio>Can Toxic Shock Syndrome Be Prevented?
When purchasing a pet collar you will find that most stores are inexpensive and if you want it personalized most of the stores will do this for free. Most people when the move the last thing on their mind is to get a new collar for their pet with the correct information on it, so when moving make sure that this is on your to do list. When you own a pet it is your responsibility for their safety.

But, that is not all a pet owner is obligated to do. Aside from the identification of your pet dog, collars have become very popular because people like to show off their pets so collars are now fashion symbols for pets.

There are many collars to choose from, they varieties include leather collars, adjustable collars, training collars, shock collars, reflective collars and many other types. They are also ideal for training the dog. A young dog has a short attention span and may become uninterested with long, tiresome training sessions.

Dog training can be an intimidating task. The shock collar is only meant for dogs that have behavioral problems which have not been able to be curbed with normal non-electronic training methods. Dog training is an art, and like any artist you must pick your tools carefully in order to properly train your dog.

One of the most popular collar today is the metal choke, many people like because then the dog pulls it is reminded that they can't do what they want.

Collars come in all sizes they do this because each dogs neck is different, for example Shepherd and Dalmatians would need bigger collars because their necks are large and the size is between 14 to 20 inches. To correctly measure a collar place two fingers between the neck and he collar, if you can slip your two fingers in it is a good fit. Make sure the collar fits around your pets neck, your pet needs room to breath.

The dog has to feel at ease with the collar around its neck at all times. Sometimes your do can have a big neck and a small head so make sure the collar is fitted snug and it doesn't slip off.

There are many collars to choose from, like shock, harness and choke collars. Here are some facts and some ideas to consider if you are in the market to purchase a dog shock collar. Make sure the collar fits properly or the dog will not receive the proper shock. If the batteries run down in the collar the dog will not receive the shock and the collar is then useless.

There are many fancy type of collars, there are jeweled, spiked, leather and some even purchase gold with a match leash, some people go further by buying an outfit that matches. Collars range from practical to simple, from personalized to leather collars to give your pet that unique look.

When looking for a collar look for buckles that are well constructed, collars that are made of leather or nylon are usually good and they won't fall apart or break. <bio>David Marc Fishman is the owner of http://www.priceriot.com.
Dog training collars can be really helpful for many dog owners. There are various different styles to choose from and they are all there to help you to control your dog.

The Main Features of a Dog Training Collar

As mentioned, each different dog-training collar is different from the next. There are some that are designed to fit around the dog's noses, which control the direction of the dog. They are generally attached to the lead and every time the dog is pulling or you need to reprimand the dog for something, a quick, sharp yet gentle tug on the lead will turn your dogs head towards you, shocking them into doing what you want them to do. An example of this includes:

• The Canny Collar -- A really good collar that has a 'pressure and release' system. It comes in seven different sizes so it will fit all breeds of dog snugly.

Others are less humane and a lot of critics say they are cruel. These include electric shock collars. Electric shock collars do exactly as they are called - they give the dog an electric shock whenever they do something wrong. Obviously this is really cruel and as safe as most companies say they are, they should never be used over other types of dog training collars. Unfortunately, there are a lot of collars like these on the market including:

• Petsafe Yard and Park Trainer -- The collar comes with a handheld device for the owner. When your dog is wearing the collar, all you have to do is push the button on the handheld device and it will send a shock to your dog up to 400 yards away.

Again, electronic collars really should not be used at all and they can be extremely cruel!

There are also collars that are fitted with devices that aim to stop them barking. These include the:

• Static anti-bark collar -- This collar has a built in on/off system that you can control. It also has a built in system which detects the vibrations within the dogs bark and it can determine whether the dog is barking or whether it has suffered a knock or a scratch.

The Cost and the Techniques Involved

If you choose a collar that is similar to the Canny Collar, you can expect to pay up to $30. However, for the electronic collars you can end up paying around $280! It all depends upon the size of your dog, what you want the collar for and how far you want the device to be able to reach.

The best way to use a collar is only when the dog is doing something you do not want them to do. They shouldn't be used too frequently, as, although the shock may be unpleasant for them, they tend to get used to it and so will ignore what you want them to do. Also, always be quick to reward the dog when they have done something correctly. As long as you are gentle yet firm, the dog should learn quite quickly what is expected of them.

There are some books out there that can help you find the right techniques to help you use the dog training collars more effectively. So it is worth checking out your local library or even picking one up online.

Overall, dog-training collars can be really effective if used properly. You just have to do your research first! <bio>Simon Oldmann is an avid dog lover, now living in the countryside he setup a dog kennel for his dogs, Simon currently writes tips and advice about dog training at http://dogtraining.zupatips.com </bio>
