San Francisco 49ers tickets were once the premier sports tickets in the country. The 49ers' run in the 1980's and early 1990's is nearly unmatched in the history of the NFL. The team featured some of the best and most recognizable players and coaches on the planet, and for years, the team was the gold standard by which every other NFL club was measured.

Since then, however, the team has gone almost literally from the "penthouse" to the "outhouse." The 49ers finally had years of salary cap issues catch up with them, and they bottomed out completely in recent years. It was hard to imagine, when watching the team over the past couple of seasons, that this was the best team in football for so many years. Below we'll look at how the rebuilding effort is coming along, and attempt to answer whether the 49ers can realistically expect to return to their perch atop the NFL anytime soon.

New Coach

Mike Nolan is currently in his second season with the 49ers, and his first season was a total washout. Nolan had no talent to work with as the team attempted to right their salary cap situation, and he almost had to play a rookie QB with no playmakers around him. As expected, the team finished with a dismal 4-12 record, and San Francisco 49ers tickets were basically being given away outside the stadium.

However, Nolan did get to work on laying a cultural foundation, and he jettisoned veterans who weren't buying in to his plan. He took his lumps with his young players as they gained experience, and he instilled a discipline that had been missing in San Francisco for many years. If one wanted to take a close look at how Nolan was doing, he or she needed to dig much deeper than the team's record.

New Quarterback

Alex Smith came into the league in 2005 as the top pick in the NFL draft. There simply is not any situation in football where a player can come into the league with higher expectations and more pressure, as every QB who is the top overall pick is expected to be a franchise savior. Looking at past results, some of these top picks succeed and others fail.

After the 2005 season was completed, the jury was still way out on Smith. He threw only one touchdown pass against 11 interceptions, but again, he had no talent around him. So far in 2006, Smith has shown marked improvement. He's got a few more players around him, but it's hardly an all-star team. Regardless, Smith is having a much better season, is showing much more football-savvy on the field and has led the 49ers to more wins in 2006 after 10 games than they had in all of 2005.

Overall Progress

It appears that the centerpieces are in place with a good coach and a talented young QB. Those are usually the most difficult pieces to find when building a team, so now that the 49ers are getting cap-healthy, it's time to start adding complimentary pieces that will push the team over the top.

Overall, the 49ers are headed in the right direction. It's going to take a few more seasons with good drafts and wise free agent additions, but if the team can keep their momentum, San Francisco 49ers tickets will be "the" sports tickets to get once again. <bio>Written by Jay Nault, sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/ .
Put the power in the Metal. This is a very strong statement. Metal is a pillar of strength in various ways. When we say metal music, it is nothing that is made for the weak. It is something which can enable the strongest thoughts and even the inner demons in any person. When we say metal in construction, it supports and serves as the base the structure. And of these various metals, Gold is one of the most precious metals out there. It serves as one of the best conductors when made in to wires and is flexible enough to be turned in to the most amazing pieces of jewelry that may me bought for the right amount of price. And if you are keen with your mining and gold history, there is no way that you would not know the Gold Rush that happened in California mostly during the 19th Century. And the prospectors of this Californian Gold Rush were called the "49ers". They were able to make a killing with the gold they were able to obtain during that period of time. It would be written in history books forever as one of the "Golden Times".

It seems that the next set of "49ers" were in search for a different set of gold afterwards. No, we are not talking about miners this time. We are talking about one of the greatest Football teams in the history of the National Football League (NFL). This would be no other than the San Francisco 49ers. This team is the first of the only three teams in the league who have been able to win the Super Bowl for 5 times. The 49ers also hold the record as the only team who has been made multiple appearances in the Super Bowl and yet remain undefeated with a record of 5-0. With popular names such as Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice, it would be no surprise that this team was able to win all of those championships. These players, during their stay with the franchise, were not only able to win those victories, but made history happen and revolutionized the way football was played. Plays such as "the Catch" became the dream of every football kid to be able to deliver and run down to that touch down line. It also increased the number of sales of the football jerseys of the San Francisco 49ers sell like pancakes! Every fan and person who wanted to look cool just had to get one of their jerseys!

Indeed "gold" is found in many forms and sizes. Sometimes, when people say they have found gold, it may be something other than the metal. Sometimes, it may be another form of priceless possession which only the owner could appreciate and drive for. For this San Francisco based team, gold equaled to the super bowl victories and the history they are able to make. What about you, what is the gold you want to run after?<bio>Rick Grantham is an avid sports fan.
In part three of our NFL week two preview, we will look at four NFL games. I'll review the following games: Buccaneers at Falcons, Cardinals at Seahawks, Rams at 49ers and Chiefs at Broncos. There are some good matchups in this group. A couple of teams look to prove themselves this week. Let's take a look. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons

The Buccaneers failed to show up last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. This Sunday they will travel to Atlanta to face an inspired Falcons team. Atlanta got revenge on Sunday as they beat up division favorite Carolina. Vick is showing a tendency to pass first and run second even more this year so far. Will the Falcons have the motivation to fight against a Buccaneers team that's trying not to go 0-2? History says no. Tampa Bay is 15-10 against the Falcons, including 3-0 over the last three meetings.

Pick: Tampa Bay Why? I look for them to get back on track.

Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks

Seattle had a good scare last week when they struggled against the Lions in Detroit. There was a moment in the 4th quarter where the Lions could have taken the lead and really put the pressure on Seattle. However, like a Super Bowl quality team, the Seahawks offense motored down the field and kicked a game winning field goal as time expired. The Cardinals showed improvement as they defeated the 49ers. They get their first real test of the season this week.

Pick: Seahawks Why? They always struggle in week 1 games on the road. They are much better than Arizona.

St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers

The Rams offense was suspect last week against Denver. They needed 6 field goals to get past the Broncos. The 49ers showed some improvement as their QB Alex Smith threw a TD pass. Why is this significant? Smith threw only 1 all of last season, which came in the last game of the year. For the Rams, it's a simple game plan. Get Jackson to rush for 100+ yards and go home a winner. They are 38-0 when having a 100-yard rusher. The 49ers defense is too soft to stop the run.

Pick: Rams Why? I don't see the 49ers stopping the run and I like the 38-0 stat. The Rams, while not a playoff caliber team, are much better than the 49ers.

Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

It was a bad start for both teams. The Kansas City Chiefs got the worst of it. Not only did they lose to the Bengals, they lost their starting QB Trent Green. He could be out for the season after taking that nasty hit. The Broncos stumbled around in their first game, but that might have been expected. They did the same thing last season and look how they finished.

Pick: Broncos Why? The Chiefs are starting Huard and he could be mistake prone. It doesn't matter though. The Broncos will get back on track at home. Plummer is already looking over his shoulder, as fans are getting antsy. <bio>http://www.advantagesportsbetting.com http://www.sportsbettingfootball.com http://www.sportsbettingfootball.com/category/football-betting/ </bio>

This year has been one of turmoil for the Seattle Seahawks. It started with the Super Bowl--that was ripped from them thanks to poor officiating. When Shaun Alexander got the cover of the new Madden game, everyone knew it was going to be a rough season. Nothing happened at first, but then curse kicked in.

Alexander broke his foot and the MVP has been out ever since. To add to the pain, Matt Hasslebeck got injured and has been out as well. The Seahawks have been piecing together their offense with Matt Morris and Seneca Wallace. Despite the fact that many past Super Bowl losers haven't returned to the playoffs the following year and despite all these issues, the Seahawks are on the move.

This past week they scored an emotional win over rival St. Louis in Seattle. Josh Brown kicked a game-winning field goal with almost no time left in the game to win it. The victory was vital, because it gave the Seahawks a two game lead in the NFC West. And since they swept the Rams, they own the tiebreaker, so it's basically a three game lead.

The Seahawks are now 6-3 on the season and venturing off to San Francisco next week to play the 49ers. They have a three game lead with seven games left to play. Things are really looking up for them. The Seahawks and their fans got some good news this week when the team announced that Hasslebeck and Alexander would be practicing this week and could play in the 49ers game.

The Seahawks are poised to get back to the playoffs and do some damage. Their schedule has at least 4 very winnable games left on it, which leaves just 3 challenge-type games. Look for them to finish 10-6 to 12-4 and rush into the playoffs. <bio>http://www.advantagesportsbetting.com http://www.parissportifs.com http://www.parierenligne.com </bio>

Are you a business owner or a business executive who regularly finds yourself traveling to and staying in the San Francisco area? If so, where do you currently stay when on business? If you are like many other individuals who travel to San Francisco for business, you may choose to stay at a hotel or you may even choose to rent a San Francisco condo. If your first choice is renting a San Francisco condo, how you would you feel to know that you could actually own your own San Francisco condo?

When it comes to owning your own San Francisco condo, instead of staying in a traditional hotel or renting a condo, are you wondering what you should do? If you are, you are definitely not alone. There are a large number of San Francisco business travelers who wonder whether or not it is really worth it for them to purchase a San Francisco condo. Of course, you will not want to purchase a San Francisco condo if it would end up being considered a poor investment or a waste of your money. That is why it is important that you take the time to thoroughly research and examine your decision to buy a San Francisco condo for business, before actually doing so.

Perhaps, one of the most important factors that you need to take into consideration, when deciding whether or not to buy a San Francisco condo, is travel. If are a business owner or a business executive who doesn't reside in the San Francisco area, you need to examine how much you will be traveling to the area. Although this can be somewhat difficult to do, you will want to estimate. In addition to knowing how many trips you think that you would take in the coming years, how long do you expect those trips to be? If you could see yourself taking a weeklong trip to San Francisco each month, it might be a wise investment for you to look into the purchase of a San Francisco condo. In fact, over a period of time, you may even be able to save yourself money.

Although it is advised that you only purchase a San Francisco condo if you plan on using it, it is important to remember that a condo can be used for other purposes, besides business purposes. For instance, are you in relationship or do you have children? Each year, a large number of romantic couples and family takes romantic getaways and family vacations, respectively. Should you choose to purchase a San Francisco condo, you can make sure that you get good use out of it by traveling to San Francisco whenever you have free time with your family or with your romantic partner. Although you may have spent a reasonable amount of time residing in your San Francisco condo, should you choose to buy one, there is a good chance that the experience would be relatively new and exciting for your family.

In addition to using a San Francisco condo that you bought for vacation purposes, you may also be able to make a little bit of extra money on the side, when you are not using it. It is not uncommon for condo owners, including San Francisco condo owners, to rent out their condos, when they are not using them themselves. Of course, you will want to examine any condo complex rules and restrictions before first taking this approach, but most of the time you will see that you are well within your right to rent out your San Francisco condo to others. These other individuals could include those that are traveling for business or those who are visiting the San Francisco area while on a trip or a vacation.

The decision as to whether or not you want to purchase a San Francisco condo is yours to make, but, as you can see, you should be able to get good use out of one, even if it isn't just you using it. That is why, if you haven't already done so, you will at least want to look into buying a San Francisco condo. <bio>We specialize in finding the perfect http://sf.condodomain.com/user/user_home.php at an affordable price. The AFL merged with the National Football League (NFL) in 1966. The Bengals first season was in 1968, playing as an AFL franchise and expansion team; they only became part of the NFL in 1970. The team is now a part of the American Football Conference (AFC) North Division in the National Football League (NFL). Their uniform colors are black, white, and orange.

Their first seasons in the NFL

During their membership in the AFL, rusher Paul Robinson led the team and got the honor of rookie of the year. In their first NFL season in 1970, the Bengals won the AFC Central Division but during the playoff, they lost in the first round. Paul Brown, the Bengals esteemed coach from the 1950s guided the team to postseason games in 1973 and 1975. During that time, Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson emerged as one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. In both the 1973 and 1975, the Bengals got as far as the playoffs but lost again in the first round.

1980s - A good decade for the Bengals

The next few seasons saw a number of changes, particularly the several replacements of head coach. The result was mixed over the next NFL seasons. In 1981, the Bengals won the division crown once again under the guidance of head coach and hall of famer Forrest Gregg, formerly an offensive tackle. It was a fairly successful season for the Bengals with a couple of their players earning awards. Ken Anderson won his fourth passing title. Wide receiver and rookie Cris Collinsworth and running back Pete Johnson both gained more than a thousand yards. During the playoffs, their luck also turned around, defeating the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills and playing in the Super Bowl. They finally lost to the San Francisco 49ers, the eventual Super Bowl Champions with a record of 26-21. Throughout the mid-80s, the Bengals was a team to contend with and played competitively. In 1985, Boomer Esiason replaced Ken Anderson as quarterback. Like Anderson, Esiason also became one of the best quarterbacks in NFL. In 1987, Cincinnati had a win-loss record of 4-11. The next season, 1988, they finished with a 12-4 record. Esiason won his first National Football Conference passing title and won player of the year together with quarterback Randall Cunningham of the Philadelphia Eagles. Among the American Football Conference's top-rated offense were Cincinnati running back James Brooks, tackle Anthony Munoz, and receiver Eddie Brown. The Bengals once again advanced to their second Super Bowl in a decade, playing against the San Francisco 49ers. But, history, repeating itself, the Bengals lost to the 49ers who scored a touchdown at the last minute.

1990s -- A struggle for the Bengals

In 1990, the Bengals once again won in the Divisions, gaining their fifth division title. Boomer Esiason got a 3,000-yard season for six consecutive times. The 1990s was a struggle for the Bengals compared to the 1980s. Between 1992 and 1994, the Bengals won only eleven games.<bio>Rick Grantham is an avid sports fan.
San Francisco is famous for, among other things, that song popularized by Tony Bennett, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". Interestingly, people do sometimes leave their hearts in San Francisco--because of the active dating scene in the city.

A true melting pot, San Francisco has a hybrid culture, originating from the Asian, Latino and American roots. This would probably explain the open-mindedness of San Francisco daters. It is not uncommon and it is definitely acceptable to see people from two different backgrounds or cultures dating.

Some people have said that San Francisco differs from other cities with active dating scenes by their styles. For instance, the bars in New York are more casual compared to the San Francisco bars. It is also common for singles to go to gatherings held in museums, art galleries, and other unconventional venues for meeting potential romantic partners. But one of the trends in San Francisco nowadays is the Speed Dating.

Speed Dating is also popular in other major cities, but this type of dating is more widespread in San Francisco. There are lots of singles who are working and earning enough, and who do not have time to go to dates very often. Just think of Speed Dating as a Jobs Fair--there are many companies for graduates to apply to, many options are available, and the job interview is quick so the hiring can also be quick.

The most important thing in Speed Dating is not the "dating" itself. It really is not dating yet, because you will just talk with a member of the opposite sex for only five to seven minutes. And so what really matters is the first impression, how you come off to the person you are talking to. There are also sets of questions that a man or a woman asks the first time--such as "Where do you live?", "What are you into?", and "What is your job?" Of course, it is important to get information and to get to know the person as much as you can in such a short time.

For most San Francisco daters, it is important to have a partner who lives in the same city, or who at least lives near the area. If someone asks you the questions, "Where are you from? Where do you live?", you have to answer honestly. But if you do not live in San Francisco, then what are you doing, going to Speed Dating groups in San Francisco?

It is also a good idea to make sure that you will have something in common with the person you decide to date. Consider the tastes in food, for instance--do you have similar tastes? In San Francisco, Asian restaurants are found everywhere. Japanese restaurants are especially popular in the city. On your first date, make sure that you are knowledgeable in Japanese food, so if your date decides that you go to a Japanese restaurant, you would not get lost while trying to read the menu.

Most dating tips are probably just easy and common sense, but really, there are lots of things to think about. Because San Francisco has a reputation for romance, you really have to get serious considering what and whom you want to date. But do not spend too much time on thinking, just have fun! <bio>Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Childhood obesity is at alarming levels in this county. Children in the San Francisco Schools are no exception. Too much television and video games, and too little time spent playing outside has led to an epidemic of juvenile health issues. It sure doesn't help that the San Francisco Schools have had to cut funding for physical education over the years. But the 2007-2008 school year does have something positive going for it. Several San Francisco Schools will provide fresh salad bars, whole grain options, and whole fruits and vegetable in their cafeterias.

Twenty six San Francisco Schools from elementary to high school will benefit from a half a million dollar grant from the mayor's office and the Department of Children, Youth, and their families. This is a big deal. The fact that a school district has actually recognized the importance of nutrition in education is enormous. For the past few decades public education has acted as if the only aspect of learning we should worry about are test scores. The San Francisco Unified School District has been forced to slash the arts, physical education, and anything not seen to directly affect standardized tests.

How Does Nutrition Affect San Francisco Schools Students?

Teachers in the San Francisco Schools know that a child's academic success lies in several factors: home environment, proper nutrition, and a good night sleep greatly impact a student's ability to pay attention and retain information. The fast food generation currently attending the San Francisco Schools needs to be made aware of how nutrition choices will affect their health. But it's a pretty safe bet that the San Francisco Schools don't have much extra time to teach daily health classes. That's OK, what they're doing now might be even better.

Schools need to lead by example. Just think of the message that it sent to children to have soda in vending machines and options like chips, ice cream and fatty meals for lunch fare. The San Francisco Schools are setting an example that the rest of the nation needs to emulate. It's high time that schools look at the messages they are sending to our children.

What Else Can the San Francisco Schools Do?

While healthier school lunches are a huge improvement to the San Francisco Schools, the reality is that every public school district in the country is struggling to succeed. The San Francisco Schools experimented with the salad bars with pilot programs in a few of the schools last year. Hopefully more San Francisco Schools will follow this example next year. It is more costly for the San Francisco Schools to provide this fresher fare than canned vegetables and mystery meat? I'm sure it is. But the San Francisco Schools will recoup the cost in children who are more likely to pay attention (maybe less ADD diagnoses), higher test scores, children who are less fussy, and who appreciate the taste of fresh foods. <bio>Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
Many see the Seattle Seahawks as the "landlords" of the NFC West, and that's probably a correct assumption. The team got all the way to the Super Bowl last season, and their personnel losses appear manageable. However, there is always the prospect of a "Super Bowl loss hangover," as that has ruined other teams' seasons the following year, and two other teams in particular could be on the verge of achieving big things in the division.

Arizona Cardinals:

Offseason Additions: Although the Cardinals were relatively quiet in free agency, their one signing was a big splash in RB Edgerrin James. The Cardinals need a running game to complete their talented offense, and if James can force defenses to respect every aspect of the Cardinals' attack, their passing game will flourish. The Cardinals had a good draft with QB Matt Leinart, G Taitusi Lutui, TE Leonard Pope and DT Gabe Watson.

Outlook: If their defense continues to play well and their OL and running game come together, the Cardinals could wind up in the playoffs.

St. Louis Rams

Offseason Additions: The Rams were quite busy in every aspect of their operation this offseason, including the signing of a new coach in Scott Linehan, a respected young offensive mind. The Rams also added a slew of free agents, including DB's Fakhir Brown and Corey Chavous, DT La'Roi Glover, LB's Will Witherspoon and Raonall Smith, LB, RB Tony Fisher, QB Gus Frerotte and P Matt Turk. The Rams further added to the DB corps by drafting Tye Hill in the first round.

Outlook: The Rams added help to their leaky pass defense and will hopefully put together an offense that uses its personnel better by pounding the ball with RB Steven Jackson. If they improve in these areas, the Rams will be a tough team to deal with throughout the season.

San Francisco 49ers

Offseason Additions: The 49ers enter their second year of their rebuilding process, and they continued to add pieces all over their roster. The team needs an infusion of talent everywhere, and that's why they were busy this offseason. Free agent acquisitions include DB's Walt Harris and Chad Williams, WR's Bryan Gilmore and Antonio Bryant, G Larry Allen and LB T.J. Slaughter. The 49ers also had a very good draft that included TE Vernon Davis and LB Manny Lawson, and each will be a significant addition to their overall talent pool.

Outlook: The 49ers are still a year or two away from being a postseason threat, but they've added pieces not only to their defense, but also to their offense as they build around young QB Alex Smith.

Seattle Seahawks

Offseason Additions: The Seahawks were unusually active for a team coming off a Super Bowl appearance, but their losses were as significant as their additions. The team signed LB Julian Peterson, DT Russell Davis, OL Tom Ashworth, WR Nate Burleson, TE Will Heller, DE Kemp Rasmussen and DB Oliver Celestin. The Seahawks also drafted DB Kelly Jennings in the first round of the draft. However, the team also lost G Steve Hutchinson, valuable WR Joe Jurevicius and dependable DB Marquand Manuel.

Outlook: The Seahawks are facing a grim recent history in 2006. No Super Bowl-losing team since 2000 has managed even a .500 record the following year, but the Seahawks remain the class of this division, so anything less than a playoff appearance would be a surprise. <bio>By Jay Nault sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/ .
A native of Alexander City, Alabama, Terrell Eldorado Owens was born on December 7, 1973 and is often referred to as 'T.O.' He is currently the wide receiver for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys after being chosen in March 2006 to be a part of the team's upcoming season.

During the majority of the 2005 season, Terrell Owens was an inactive player of the Philadelphia Eagles. The activity, or lack thereof, was due to a contract dispute and conflicts with fellow teammates, including quarterback Donovan McNabb. When Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced that Owens had signed a contract to play for his team, it seemed that all of the controversy from the previous year was over. While Owens is undisputably one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL, his reputation for speaking his mind without regard is a large part of the controversy that surrounds him.

After being released from the Philadelphia Eagles on March 14, 2006, Terrell Owens quickly found a home with the Dallas Cowboys. In a deal that is reportedly worth $25 million and spans over a period of three years, many continue to speculate as to how this new alliance will fare. The contract is also said to include a $5 million signing bonus and a first year salary of $5 million.

While his reputation is sometimes viewed in a negative way, his athletic abilities cannot be denied. Terrell Owens currently holds the NFL record for 20 receptions in a single game and has enjoyed many notable accomplishments, including 103 total touchdowns, six 1,000 yard seasons and reached 100 catches in 14 games during the 2002 season.

After being drafted for the first time in the 1996 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Terrell Owens is now playing for his third professional football team. From the 49ers to the Eagles and now finding a new home with the Cowboys, Terrell Owens is poised to begin the 2006 NFL season with a new contract, new teammates and in a new zip code. As teammates, coaches and fans eagerly await to see how the Alabama native meshes with the players of Dallas, Terrell Owens will be preparing for a new season filled with plenty of competition. <bio>Bob writes for http://www.EZTicketSearch.com and http://www.FanFrenzyZone.com.. One successful example of a small school is the San Francisco Schools' Leadership High School. This high school has a total of only 345 students, uses high standards and close relationship with teachers to help at risk students. Leadership High School was established about 5 years ago and now has some of the highest test scores in all of the San Francisco Schools. Mainly the idea is to take large schools, usually high schools, into several smaller schools that can focus on the students needs better.

San Francisco Schools have become a leader in a growing trend that has spread across Northern California. The idea behind breaking up large schools is an attempt to provide an alternative to the status quo. Students in a small school tend to have higher rates of graduation, higher attendance rates, and higher university attendance. The small school environment succeeds due to a more personalized learning environment. The small schools of the San Francisco Schools use a mentor system that gives guidance to that they are personally engaged in their work. Students are motivated while being connected to the school community. The National Longitudinal Study for Adolescent Health reports that students in a small school environment were less likely to use alcohol, illegal drugs, become pregnant, or experience emotional distress.

San Francisco Schools' Small Schools for Equity

The Small Schools for Equity program is an innovative partnership between San Francisco Schools and a local university. This high school has one hundred students from all of the San Francisco Schools. This high school will be housed on the university's campus and be supported by the College of Education while being managed and funded by San Francisco Schools. The students, teachers and administration will have a say in curriculum development. Students who attend the Small Schools for Equity program were chosen by San Francisco Schools' officials. The high school students will study a rigid curriculum that will include high school level math, science, English, humanities, world language, art and Japanese. No college courses will be offered.

The Small Schools for Equity program provides the College of Education with a great opportunity in teacher education. San Francisco Schools has allowed university students seeking teaching credentials to teach and observe in schools throughout the San Francisco School district for years, now the College of Education will have a high school on campus that will benefit from modern educational theory and practices. The high school will be housed in Burk Hall and run a full school day from 8AM to 3PM, the rest of the day Burk Hall will be used by education students.

San Francisco Schools Board of Education Reviews Small Schools

The San Francisco Schools Board of Education is, this summer, reviewing a policy that would support the San Francisco Schools Small Schools By Design. The policy is being introduced by San Francisco Schools Acting Superintendent Gwen Chan and is supported by school board president Norman Yee and San Francisco Organizing Project, a community organization that supports the small schools initiative. San Francisco Organizing Project is a collection of religious congregations, schools and community centers. Those opposed to the program claim that the money spent does not equal the benefits but supporters say that the Small Schools offset the difficulties of declining student enrollment and the flight of families from San Francisco Schools. The current policy up for vote would create a task force to determine the locations and needs of San Francisco Schools which would benefit most from Small Schools. <bio>Stacy Andell is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
San Francisco offers a wide variety of attractions for the locals, visitors and tourists. The possibility of things to do in the city seems to be endless. However, the "Top Things to do" in San Francisco involves visits at the waterfront, around town, and on the city's ocean and bay fronts.

One spectacular sight at the Waterfront of San Francisco is the "Golden Gate Bridge" the most photographed sight in the world. It stretches 4,200 feet with a towering height compared to a 65 story building. A walk at the bridge is one of the most enjoyable things to do.

Another popular sight of San Francisco's Waterfront is the Alcatraz, a former prison for the notorious criminals. The interesting part to do at this place is the self-walking guided tour through the aid of headphones that narrates the whole story of about Alcatraz.

Half a dozen blocks along the Waterfront are the Fisherman's Wharf, Pier39, and Ghirardelli Square. Simply walking along the streets, your attention will be caught by some entertaining performers. The street also has plenty of tempting souvenir shops and great seafood restaurants.

Around the town of San Francisco is Union Square -- the third largest shopping area in the United States. It is a fabulous place to shop for clothes, art works and items for your home -- but make sure that you have enough money because prices are quite expensive.

A must see attraction in San Francisco is the "Crookedest Street in the World" or simply Lombard Street. Watching the vehicles make their curves as they go down the crooked street is a great a attraction and a marvel to the eye. Others have said that it is much more interesting to experience the crooked section of the street by riding or driving a car.

San Francisco also has many places for antiques that you can visit. One of these places is the Cliff House where you can find the Camera Obscura that was invented by Leonardo Da Vinci. The Cliff House is also a very nice place for a drink because it offers excellent views of the Pacific Ocean and Seal Rock.

The place in San Francisco where there's always something to do is at North Beach. North Beach is full of activities, but most involve eating. The area has tons of cafe's, restaurants, delicatessens, and bakeries for you to choose from.

There are other plenty of things that you can do in San Francisco...the possibilities here are truly endless. <bio>Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Educators in the San Francisco Public Schools are frustrated by the lack of balance in education. The recent focus on mandatory testing has moved schools nationwide away from holistic education. And this can have serious consequences on children in the San Francisco Schools.

Richard Florida in The Flight of the Creative Class says, "What we really need in order to prepare our children for the creative economy is a comprehensive education. Something that takes them from aesthetics to algebra without pretending that the two are mutually exclusive." Aha!

Elliot W. Eisner, professor of education and art, Stanford University agrees. He states that "The arts are fundamental resources through which the world is viewed, meaning is created, and the mind developed." Arts education has a profound effect on students, there's no doubt about it. San Francisco Schools are finally acknowledging this, and are acting on it

In March 2004, voters, in unprecedented numbers, passed Proposition H. This proposition earmarked tens of millions of city funds for schools, including new funds for arts education. This had added further community and political support to the cause of arts education equity and access for all San Francisco Schools students.

A San Francisco Schools Steering Committee was then formed to begin work on the master plan. The steering committee, as well as others, is composed of district administrators, teachers, parents, principals, funders, city agency representatives and arts providers. They met on a regular basis until August 2005 under the direction of a project manager. The Steering Committee continues to provide guidance during the initial implementation phase of the plan and will gradually become an advisory body for the San Francisco Schools plan.

The San Francisco Schools have made an important step forward by acknowledging the role arts play in academic education. The arts engage students and honor the many different learning styles students possess. The arts are essential to understanding one's self, the community, and global culture. Through arts, students in the San Francisco Schools can acquire the skills and creativity needed to succeed later in life. San Francisco Schools leaders know that the arts encourage commitment and persistence, and they have discovered that an involvement in the arts leads to increased attendance and helps many students stay in school, all the way through 12th grade.

One San Francisco Schools elementary principal agreed, "Art gives kids something they can do well. . . .For some, this is where they start." We need to see more initiatives like this all over the country. As the San Francisco Schools are finally starting to recognize, there is a connection between art and academic education that can go a long way towards improving the state of education in this country. <bio>Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
One of the most famous destinations in the United States remains to be San Francisco City in California. Found on the west coast, San Francisco's territory includes a number of must-see islands, including Treasure Island and Alcatraz. San Francisco is home to over 50 hills, including Pacific Heights, Nob Hill and Twin Peaks. The climate of San Francisco is a mixture of the Mediterranean climate of California and the Pacific Ocean's cool breeze and fog.

A world-famous tourist attraction, San Francisco boasts of a seemingly unlimited number of tourist destinations. The city is divided into a variety of famous districts, including the Mission District, Marina District and the Financial District, with its famous Union Square. Other popular tourist spots include the Golden Gate Park and the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Alamo Square, Moscone Center, The Palace of Fine Arts, Coit Tower, Lincoln Park, and the original Chinatown, to name a few. The most twisted street in America, known as Lombard Street, can be found in San Francisco. The Island of Alcatraz, the former island prison, may be reached via ferry and cruises. The San Francisco Zoo will surely be enjoyed by people of all ages. Cable cars are also widely popular the world over.

The Financial District in San Francisco is the primary financial center in the entire west coast of the United States. Various companies have their headquarters there, including Wells Fargo and the Bank of America.

Various universities cater to residents of San Francisco. These include the San Francisco State University and the City College of San Francisco. The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is another San Francisco university. It is one of the top employers in the city, focusing on jobs in the biomedical and health sectors. The university is affiliated with the UCSF Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the country. Aside from these, San Francisco also has schools directed towards enhancing various arts, such as the San Francisco Art Institute, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the California Culinary Academy.

As one of the most densely populated cities and the 4th most populous city in the united States, San Francisco is home to huge numbers of immigrants from all over the world. Approximately 40% of San Francisco residents were born in other countries. The massive number of immigrants has supported the real estate market in San Francisco, with various neighborhoods made up of both residential and office spaces for new entries.

The Internet revolution in the early 1990s led to a rush in the real estate market in San Francisco. The value of properties continued to increase, peaking in the year 2005. Since then, there has been a gradual decline in the value of real estate in the area. With the decreasing prices of real estate and the continuing availability of jobs in the area, more so in the biotechnology and research areas, it is expected that the real estate market will experience a surge in the next few years. <bio>Seth Willis Jr. is the webmaster for http://www.calpads.com and a savvy real estate investor. A true melting pot, San Francisco has a hybrid culture, originating from the Asian, Latino and American roots.

San Francisco is among the most popular nightlife spots in the United States. The city boasts everything from ballets and opera to Irish pubs, hipster hangouts, piano bars, live music, cabaret, theatres, and more.

If you are looking to conduct a little business, The Mandarin Lounge is a great spot -- offering a hotel haven for private conversation and great mixed drinks. The Bubble Room offers champagne, chocolate, caviar, biscuits with a live bluesy music. SoMa, or South of Market Area, plays host to stylish restaurants, theaters, galleries and clubs. Fisherman's Wharf is the best place for nocturnal hangouts such as the Buena Vista and Knuckles Historical Sports Bar and Grill. Financial District, Civic Center, Union Square, Marina District, Mission District, Russian District, Marin County and The Castro are all other nice place to visit and are bustling during the night.

There are plenty of other things that can be done once the sun sets over San Francisco.
Antioch, California is at first glance, maybe, a simple, out of the way spot one wouldn't consider settling on. But with the overcrowding, the unreasonable real land prices, and the urbanization of once beautiful scenery, some might think again.

The population of Antioch, California was 90,532 in 2000. It only grew by a little over eleven percent--in five years, with 51% females and 49% males totaling 100,631.

The average age of the Antioch resident is about 32, making for young, moderately progressive area where their median income of $60k+ affords some of the most affordable homes in the Northern California area (at $196,000 on the average in 2000, for example).

More than two thirds of the folks have at least a high school education, and at the same time, unemployment is extremely low (at a little over five percent).

The crime rate is also very low, with rapes and attack increasing only minimally from, respectively, fourteen and 120 in the year 1999 and twenty-three and 187 by 2002--with only fifteen murders in a four year span, from 1999 to 2002. (One can infer, even, that the highest crime, assault, could be credited to anything from the occasional bar brawl to minor fight between friends.

The Antioch, California community is quite close, supporting one another in sports (rooting for the Antioch Pirates), and working together in local business activities in the educational, health, social services, retail/trade, professional, scientific, and management/administrative fields. Nearly one third of the population works in town, while another quarter has move due to the commute...making Antioch, California a modest city despite its size on the map.

Also contributing to the simple, hard working pride of the people of Antioch, California is their claim to being the birthplace of such fair greats as San Francisco 49ers Jeremy Newberry; Texas Rangers Matt Riley; and college ball player Jason Gaines (of the San Francisco Dons).

The skies are still blue in Antioch, and the grasses, in season and on golfing courses, are still a lush green. The bays lure water lovers, boaters, and fishermen; the country fairs appeal to the weekend soldier; and the whole area calls to the quiet, the serious, the hard-working, and the family minded. <bio>Tavis J. Basically, being a sports mascot is a really bit deal and it can really make a person famous.

Here are the top 10 sports mascots:

-Phillie Phanatic, the Philadelphia Phillies mascot is one that can't be forgotten with that green fur and big nose. Debuting in 1978, Phillie Phanatic heckles opposing players, rides around on a motorbike, and does all kinds of strange stunts.

- San Diego Chicken is the mascot for the San Diego Padres. This is the original mascot that leads all mascots. This chicken is very recognizable because it makes appearances at other events as well.

- Mr. Met is the mascot for the New York Mets and has been around since the 1960s. There are not many people who can say they haven't seen Mr. Met at one time or another, whether in person or on TV.

- The Racing Sausages are the mascots for the Milwaukee Brewers. There are five of them all dressed as a different type of sausage. During halftime, the five of them race around the field. This is something that started in 1995 and has remained ever since.

- Benny the Bull, the mascot for the Chicago Bulls started entertaining basketball fans almost 50 years ago. He dances, does stunts, and also attends private events.

- Rally Monkey is the Los Angeles Angels mascot and is more or less a stuffed monkey that people wave around at games. Now Rally Monkey has been seen in movies and even has a web store.

- Sourdough Sam, the mascot for the San Francisco 49ers, looks like a gold panner to represent the Gold Rush of 1849 that gave the 49ers their name. Everyone can easily spot that large head and humongous hat.

- Rowdy, the Dallas Cowboy's mascot, has been around since 1996 and has been received very well. He revs up the crowd, throws t-shirts into the crowd, and makes appearances at over 300 events a year.

- Rally is the mascot of the Atlanta Braves. He was shut down just a couple of years ago, but still appeals to many of the fans because he had been around for over 20 years. To some he may have seemed bland because he was just a red monster with a lot of hair. To others he was much more than that.

- Miles the Denver Broncos was revealed in 2001. He is a bucking bronco that crowd surfs and expresses game thoughts on his own personal website.

These are the ten mascots that stand out the most. Even if the mascot is no longer in action, that mascot still makes an impression on people today. Without mascots revving up the crowds, giving things away, mingling with the kids, and doing stunts, the sports event would be something entirely different. The crowds would not be cheering and if they're not cheering the team is not going to feel motivated by their crowd. That just shows the type of role that mascots play in making sure the game experience for all parties involved is one to never be forgotten.<bio>Custom Mascot company provides mascot creation, cleaning, repair, shipping and tracking.
