Running is a simple exercise everyone can do. No need to buy equipments, no need to join any gym classes. Just have a strong will and extra time. And, a pair of shoes!

Some people donand#8217;t really care about the kind of shoes they use for jogging. They sometimes use tennis shoes, basket shoes, or any other shoes perfect for any other sports other than running.

This is not a wise thing to do.

Why would those experts design a certain type of shoes for a certain type of exercise/sport? Itand#8217;s because they have done a research covering almost all aspects, such as comfort and health.

So, it is best to put on a pair of running shoes for jogging.

Running shoes are specially made to protect the foot from the stresses of running. Running shoes usually have slight heel elevation to reduce stress on the achilles tendon. They also have a larger toe box, more shock absorption, and better pronation control than tennis shoes. Moreover, they have additional emphasis on cushioning.

By using running shoes, you can avoid yourself from injury.

And, it is better to have two pairs of shoes instead of one. That way, in wet weather you will have a dry pair waiting.

If you plan to buy a pair of running shoes, do it at the end of the day. By that time, your feet are a bit puffy. This is necessary because normally, running cause your feet to expand.

Also, try those shoes on both your feet. Feel them. Check out if they are comfortable enough.

Get a pair with a good quality. Remember, those shoes will be the only thing between you and the asphalt road. So, spending a little more money is worth it.

The best time to replace your old running shoes is after about 350-400 miles or after one whole year of use. This calculation works only if you use the shoes simply for running not for other activities. Or, other sign to buy a new pair is when you feel uncomfortable wearing them. Not replacing worn shoes might cause injuries.

So, itand#8217;s better to pay attention to your shoes for a maximum result of your exercise. <bio>http://runningshoesrating.com is a site providing information and tips about running shoes.
As an athlete or an every day person, buying running shoes is one of the best things you can do for your health. Proper running shoes are critical for a good running or walking experience, and to be able to safely exercise with the right type of support, knowing how to go about buying running shoes is more important than you might think. Your choice in running shoes can really make or break your workout experience, and if you want to get things off to a right start it is important that you choose your running shoes carefully. Chances are, your sales associate is not as knowledgeable as they sound about how to buy running shoes properly.

Shop at a "Running" Shoe Store

The worst thing you can for yourself is try to shop frugally for running shoes. The clearance rack is running shoe suicide, and more often than not you get a pair of running shoes that are malformed for your foot, too heavy or too light, or just plain do not fit right. This can be dangerous and may even potentially cause injury to your feet, legs, hips, or even your back--and all because you choose to save a few dollars by purchasing off the clearance rack.

This is not to say that buying running shoes on a dime is a bad idea. You just have to know what you are looking for and what you need in a running shoe. First of all, you are going to need proper support. Make sure that you try on your running shoes and walk around in them in the store. Many people make the mistake of thinking they know their size so they don't have to try their shoes on at the store. You need to make sure that your shoes are not only the correct size, but also fit you right as well (this is not the same thing).

Determine Foot Type

You also need to know what type of foot you have. If you have ever had to deal with buying running shoes before, then chances are that you probably know what type of foot you have, and that is one of the most important things. Our feet are all built differently; some people have a lower arch and some people have a higher arch; still others have completely flat feet. All the different types of feet require different types of support in running shoes, so be aware of this when you are buying running shoes.

Additional Considerations

Keep in mind that your feet expand during the day, so if you go out to buy running shoes first thing in the morning, chances are that they may not fit properly. It takes a few hours of actually being on your feet for them to be at their largest, so try to get your shoe shopping in during that time, so you know your shoes will fit even at their largest. Also, if you can fit it in it is best to do your running shoe shopping at a specialty running store. This makes for not only a better selection of running shoes, but more knowledgeable sales associates as well who are not worried about selling prom pumps and running shoes, but can focus in on your particular needs.

Buying running shoes doesn't have to be a science, but there are some key mistakes that you can avoid to make your running shoe shopping experience as pleasant as possible. <bio>To discover additional tips about how to buy running shoes, check out http://www.therunningadvisor.com/running_shoes.html today! </bio>

Running is an exercise from which wonderful cardiovascular and aerobic benefits are gained. A popular choice for men and women, it can be done almost anywhere. Just as a carpenter requires the right tools for his trade, the right pair of running shoes is essential for both the casual and the serious runner. There are some things to consider when purchasing a running shoe.

- How far and often will you be running? If you are a casual runner (less than ten miles per week), then a basic running shoe will be fine. If you are training for a marathon, consider making a true investment in your running shoes for optimal performance.

- Consider the arch in your foot. Those with a high arch, need a running shoe with a curved shape. If you have an average arch, a semi-curved shoe might be the best fit. Those with a low arch or flat feet would need a straight shape shoe.

- Where will you be running? Most people run on pavement or sidewalks, so most running shoes are designed with this in mind. However, if you are going to be running on uneven or softer surfaces (such as mountain trails or grass), look at shoes intended for those kinds of surfaces.

- Shop for running shoes late in the afternoon, as feet are at their peak size at this time of day. When trying on the shoe, make sure there is a full thumb width between the end of the longest toe and the end of the shoe. Also, if a running shoe fits properly, the toe box will allow the toes to move freely. The heel should not slip or rub against the shoe and the sole should flex with ease where the foot flexes.

- Go to a store that specializes in running shoes or at least to a sporting goods store. The sales associates will be able to help you make a decision on the best shoe for you.

- If you run often, consider purchasing more than one pair of running shoes. This way, you can rotate them. And, if you run often, your shoes should be replaced ever six months or so.

- Do consider price so your budget isn't blown, but don't sacrifice comfort and durability in the process.

Runners have a wide selection of styles, colors and levels of comfort from which to choose when looking at running shoes. Remember, whether you are a casual runner or a serious runner, comfort and excellent support are essential for the best performance! <bio>To discover additional tips about how to pick running shoes, check out http://www.TheRunningAdvisor.com today! </bio>

I just love the results that hills give to my running. No other workout gives more to my running than hills. Want to run fast, run some hills. Want to increase your leg strength, run hills. Want to work on your running mechanics, run hills. Want to increase your mental toughness, run some hills. Want to get in shape fast, run some hills.

Every time that I stop running hills for an extended period of time I start to run slower. I'm not sure why I always stop. Probably the pain that I feel when I run hills hard. The shear agony that running up a half mile long hill at 5k effort can bring, is this why?

When I am running my best it has always happened after running hills once a week for a couple of months. The increased leg strength that I develop and my increase in lung capacity are just a few of the reasons for running so well.

Our running club meets once a week to run a course that is called ball busters. This is a 7 mile course of 12 hills that increase in difficulty. Each hill has a different grade and length. And at the top of each hill there is a flat section leading to the next hill.

I can run many different types of hill workouts on this one course. One time I will concentrate on running the uphill sections hard. The next time I might run the hills and flat section hard. Or another week I can run the whole course as fast as I can. There are so many ways to run this course that I shouldn't become bored with hills.

What can a person do that lives in an area were hills are not available? Options can include running stairs, hill workouts on treadmills, stadium bleachers. I have heard of runners using beach areas.

Treadmills are an excellent way to run hills. A common injury caused by hills is running back down. Using a treadmill you can correct this problem. After running the hill reducing the incline back to zero during your rest period. By not running downhill the landing shock reduced.

Treadmills can simulate most any hill. The length or speed running up the hill can be varied to meet your needs. A good treadmill hill workout could be =BC mile uphill repeats with a =BC mile jog. Choose a speed that might seem a little slow at first. As the incline increases the intensity will also increase. <bio>Author of Run2Fast - http://www.run2fast.com </bio>

How to Lose Weight Running

Do you need to lose weight and get in shape? Well, running is one of the most ideal activities for that purpose. First of all, it is very hard to get that kind of intense workout doing things such as running or low impact aerobics. In many ways, running is an ideal activity because even if you can get a good workout doing something else, it is a lot easier to keep on creating a challenging workout with running.

Set Weight Loss Goals

Before you set out to create a running plan for weight loss, the first thing you should do is decide what you want to accomplish. Determine how much weight you want to lose and how quickly you want to lose it. This will affect how often you will run and how long each running session will be. The faster, further, and longer you go, the more weight you will lose.

Create a Weight Loss Plan

The next thing to do is to create a running weight loss plan based on your goals. The plan should include your route, how long the route will take, and how long you want to stick with that particular route. If you want to run three or four times a week, a course of around three or four miles should be adequate.

Eat for Weight Loss

You may realize that no that you are running more, your appetite has increased. That is your body's way of telling you that you need more nutrients in your diet. It is important to eat when you get hungry, otherwise it will harm your metabolism. The important thing to remember is to make good food choices and to not overeat. As long as you are eating a little less than what you need, it will not hurt your metabolism. In fact, you will begin to lose weight because your body will use your extra fat as fuel.

Keep it Challenging

One thing about running is that it is very easy to adapt to your current plan. That is why it is important to keep the workout challenging. One way to do this is to change your route after a few weeks by either lengthening it or choosing something else. Another good way to make your running challenging is to do intervals. Interval training is when you alternate running fast with jogging. You can increase the fast running intervals each time you feel your body begin to adapt.

It is not only possible to lose weight running, but running makes it much easier. Just remember to keep your route challenging and to make sure you eat nutritiously. <bio>Gray Rollins writes for The Runners Guide.
Running is one of the easiest and least expensive sports to enjoy. However, there is still essential running gear such as the right shoes that are needed. If you try to run without the proper gear, then the experience will not be as enjoyable as it could. Sometimes, it is hard enough getting the motivation, even if you love running. If you do not have the right gear, you could actually get hurt or injured.

And, once you determine what gear you need, you have a lot of options concerning which companies put out the best products. When it comes to choosing essential running gear you need to balance price with other factors such as whether or not the purpose of the product is something that need.

Running Shoes

Running shoes is the most essential piece of gear that you could need. Without the proper footwear, you are setting yourself up for injury. Some people also use special running socks. These come highly recommended from runners who use them because they ventilate well and keep your foot from getting too hot. When the feet are hot, they often expand. Make sure the shoes fit well and are designed to correct any imbalances you have in your stride. You may want to consult with an expert on running shoes before you make your purchase.

Running Clothes

Other essential pieces of running gear are the clothes you will wear. There are special pants, shorts, shirts, and socks that are designed to make the running experience more enjoyable. Sure, you can wear whatever you want. However, when it comes to essential running gear, purchasing the right clothes is a great thing to do. This is especially important because most of the clothes are made with special fabrics that help them breathe and ventilate and they also do not absorb sweat.

Other Running Accessories

There are a lot of accessories out there that are designed for runners and other people who are extremely active. These accessories include arm band cases for the mp3 player or cell phone, complex hydration systems, water bottles, and even a special product that is designed to help prevent blisters. Issues such a blisters are a very real possibility to have to deal with while running. Another good accessory is a small first aid kit. A good hydration system/backpack will have enough room in it to hold other things like first aid kits. <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for http://www.therunnersguide.com.
If you want to make your workouts more challenging you should add running to your routine. Running can be a great hobby that not only is extremely challenging but overall very effective for burning fat. The nice thing about running is that it is very effective in short durations. You do not need to run for a very long time if you don't want too.

Running used with weight training can add another dimension to your fat burning efforts. Also, you'll be in much better shape as you keep doing it. While weight lifting is optimal for building strength and shaping muscles, running helps you keep you as lean as possible.

You should check with your doctor first to discuss adding jogging to your routine. If you like to add running to your work out but you're not sure how to get started, keep these tips in mind.

First and foremost you need the right attire and environment to start jogging. I would recommend that you find the right running shoes. You should look into brands such as Brooks or New Balance.

It may be best to go to a store that specializes in running shoes and you should get properly measured. Having the right shoe with the proper fit will provide the right foundation for your running regimen by limiting pain in your feet.

The next thing you should remember is to start off simple and slow. If you are weigh a lot or you haven't ran in a long time, you do not want to put yourself in a situation that will hinder your efforts. It's best to start off walking and then run for short bouts of time. This is called interval training.

Interval training is the best way to build up endurance for running. It provides workouts that allow you to challenge yourself on a frequent basis and at the same time allows your body to recuperate.

For example, a good way to start is to set the duration of your running workout for 20 minutes. Set your intervals for 2 minutes walking followed by 1 minute of jogging. Use this as a baseline. For example if you get too tired or feel too much pain, increase to 3 minutes walking with one minute or less jogging.

The goal is to build the endurance, not hurt yourself and try to push yourself to get a little bit better each time. You'll be surprised how much better you get in such a short duration of time. <bio>For a great book filled with Weight Loss Workout Routines that include weight lifting and running to keep you active for a long time, check out our review of Turbulence Training at http://www.addfitness.com/turbulence-training.htm </bio>

Benefits of Running

Running is addictive. Speak to anyone who is a runs or jogs regularly and you will find that everyone has different motivations. Some run to keep their weight down, or to help them lose weight. Others run because it makes them feel happier and healthier. Some people run because they feel it is good exercise.

Every runner uses these motivations to help them stay on track with their routines. Any physical activity you can stick with is a good one. It just seems that a lot of people run and do so with regularity. Well, the fact is, running has a lot of benefits. Here's a list of some of the best.

Good Health. One of the biggest benefits of running is that it is good for you. It keeps your heart healthy, it increases your metabolism, and it in general keeps your body looking and feeling healthy. It also increases your sex drive.

Lose Weight. Another benefit of running is that it can help you lose weight. For those who are already at a healthy weight, it can help you maintain it. Just make sure to keep your calorie intake at a healthy level. Runners are not immune to gaining weight if they take in too many calories.

Better Moods. Running simply makes you feel good. It can improve your mood and give you an overall sense of well being. The physical activity activates the right hormones to improve your mood. That means that even if you run while something is bothering you, by the end of your run, you will feel a lot better.

Get Rid of Stress. Stress is a big problem in our society. We rush around from activity to activity without really taking time out for ourselves. Since running makes us healthier, it is no surprise that it can also help us deal with stress. And there is more to it than just a chemical reaction. Running gives us some much needed quiet time. That alone can help lower stress.

Increased Self Esteem. Regular runners report an increase in their confidence and self esteem. And the self esteem benefits of running are increased if you set a goal and accomplish. For example, if you set a goal to run a marathon and then make it across the finish line, the confidence gained from a goal accomplished is worth it. But you don't need to set a goal or run a race to experience this. Running gives people an inner sense of confidence regardless.

Sense of Community. Some people prefer to run alone. They enjoy the quiet and solitude. However, some would rather use their running time to get social. Choosing a running buddy or running with a club or group is a great way to develop a sense of community with your running. You can set goals and accomplish them together. Plus, having at least one running buddy is a great motivator. <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for TheRunnersGuide.
Running is a great way to keep fit and can be a lot of fun, too. It is very important to make sure you have the correct equipment before you start and one of the most important investments is a good pair of running shoes. They can improve your running gait and prevent injuries. There are thousands of different running shoes to choose from and most of the big sports manufacturers invest money into the science and technology of running shoes.

Running Shoe Components

A running shoe comprises an outsole, a midsole, an upper, a heel counter and a post or footbridge. Apart from that, running shoes vary enormously in design and color. A running shoe has to be flexible and durable, control motion and absorb shock. It is best to buy your shoes from a specialist running shop, or at least a sports shop, so you can get good advice from the sales staff. Try on shoes in the afternoon, when your feet are slightly larger.

Each person has slightly different feet, so a great shoe for someone else might not necessarily be the best one for you. The shape of your feet, your weight, any foot problems, your running style and running surfaces (tarmac, sand, treadmill etc) and various other factors can affect which running shoe is going to suit you and your lifestyle the best.

Types of Running Shoes

You can divide your feet into one of three basic types =96 normal, flat or high arched. Have a look at your wet footprint on the bathmat when you get out of the bath. If you see a full imprint, this means you are flat footed. If there is an arch cutaway, your foot is normal. If there is a very narrow band or no band between the front and back of the foot, you have high arches. Foot type affects which sort of running shoes will be better for you. The normal foot tends to be the most biomechanically efficient and you will need shoes with moderate motion control. If you have high arches, avoid stability or motion control shoes, as these will limit foot mobility. If your feet are flat, high stability or motion control shoes with firm midsoles will reduce the amount your foot naturally rolls in and be more comfortable and better for you. Avoid highly curved or cushioned shoes if your feet are flat, as they will restrict stability.

When trying on running shoes, make sure they feel good as soon as you put them on. The average pair of running shoes should be able to run 1000 km so comfort is a must!

Free Running Shoe Guide

To discover additional running shoe guide tips, grab your free guide at http://www.therunningadvisor.com/running_shoes.html or visit: http://www.TheRunningAdvisor.com 24/7! <bio>To discover additional running shoe guide tips, grab your free guide at http://www.therunningadvisor.com/running_shoes.html or visit: http://www.TheRunningAdvisor.com 24/7! </bio>

If you ever go to a track meet or road race watch the faster runners. They all seem to glide along with ease. It is always a joy to watch these gifted athletes perform. What is it that they do that makes them run so fast?

The reason that these runners move so effortlessly is that they have mastered the three phases of running. The three phases of running are drive, recovery, and support. Each phase plays an important role in developing speed.

The drive phase as its name implies drives the leg well behind the runner's center of gravity propelling the runner forward.

The recovery phase begins as the driving leg leaves the ground and continues until the same foot contacts the ground again. This allows the leg to bend and lift upwards toward the buttocks.

The support phase begins when the forward leg contacts the ground below the runner's center of gravity. In the support phase the leg acts a stationary platform that allows the driving forces to begin.

Ways to develop good running technique include videotaping yourself, form training, and visualization.

Have someone videotape you when you run using your best technique. And then analyze yourself in slow motion. Watch for unnecessary movements that can easily be corrected. After accessing your technique visualize what good running form looks like. Then practice good running form by running strides to practice. After a few days videotape yourself again and watch how much you have improved.

The amazing thing that will happen as you visualize and videotape yourself is that you running economy will improve. Your easy day running pace will become faster. When your easy day running improves your race times will also improve.

The less wasted motion that can be removed in your running stride the faster you will be able to run. Think of it this way, what will run better a car that is smoking or a finely tuned one. <bio>http://www.run2fast.com </bio>

When the temperatures start to approach the 90 degree mark, running can become quite challenging. There are many ways to beat the heat. Running during the cooler parts of the day, planning running routes that go past drinking fountains, taking fluids with you, and when the temperatures get too hot running indoors.

Most heat waves last from a few days to a few weeks. Changing the time of your run to early morning when temperatures are lowest is an option that I use. I enjoy the early morning when the sun is just coming up. There is little traffic and the rest of my day always seems to go better.

On days that are over 90 degrees I prefer to run routes that have a drinking fountain or a convenience store along the way. At the half way point in my run I will stop for a drink. One route that I run has a golf course at the half way point. I will stop and get a drink before heading home.

An option that I have tried in the past is to carry fluids with me. I have used a fuel belt with some success. There are many products on the market that will fit your needs. My only suggestion is to look for belts that have smaller bottles. The fluid inside of the larger bottles tends to slosh around.

During one heat wave about 5 years ago the temperatures were in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. This lasted for most of the summer. In the morning temperatures were in the 80s with high humidity. This lasted for weeks. I was starting to become discouraged by the constant heat. So I tried running at a local health club a couple of days a week. Running on a treadmill inside the health club with air conditioning was quite a relief.

One last suggestion during the hot summer weather is to pay special attention to your hydration. Dehydration can seek up on you even when you think you are drinking enough. I always make sure to drink water during the day. Just before I leave the house I always drink 20oz of sports drink. After completing my run I always make sure to rehydrate. <bio>Ultmate Training Videos http://www.everything-running.com </bio>

Since the concept of running cars on water based mechanisms is no more a science fiction, you can say, there is so much to gain from running car on water. Browsing through internet will easily return enough information to convince you that it is not impossible to do it.

If you are reading this article I am sure you are willing to take this important step in your life and are only waiting for more information about this technique. My request to you is to feel free to read this article completely. But first, let me assure you that running car on water kits are safe, beneficial and there are several installed kits in every city across USA and world wide which are helping their masters save big bucks on gas prices day in and day out.

It is my well considered opinion that it is high time that everyone switched to running their cars on water driven technology. Running car on water not only increases tractive force generated and decreases noxious emissions but also increases engine's life. There are a number of benefits to be had from switching over to water based technology besides savings on gas bills.

There are a few valid concerns raised at various fora. Most of them are connected to issues of safety of running car on water in one way or the other. My advice is to keep off the shadowy deals trying to entice your action using cheap methods. Nevertheless, the technology has evolved sufficiently to address safety concerns convincingly.

So here are the six benefits of running car on water.

1. Cars running on water are sure to improve mileage by at least 35% which may even cross 50% in some cases depending on factors like skill of the installation mechanic, condition, driving/road conditions and the age of your car etc. Regardless, it is a huge enough saving potential particularly yours is a business.

2. There is no fear of emission of poisonous and greenhouse gases from the exhaust as you are running car on water which is now environmentally friendly. That demonstrates your environmental concerns.

3. Engine performance increases with experience. Water run cars are more likely to have longer life than gasoline run cars.

4. No chore of carbon deposits

5. Cooler running because of reduce risk of engine overheating

6. Low wear and tear on engine parts such as pistons, rings, valves which boosts up your car's life expectancy.

Galileo couldn't have discovered what he did had he left it to his fate.
What is running?

The word running comes from the German word rinnen, meaning to flow. Its use to describe the sport of running seems quite apt as athletes do frequently seem to flow across their field of play. Running is a simple exercise that requires little equipment which makes it an excellent sport for everyone.

The History of Running

Running is a healthy activity for people of many different ages and is a great way to stay in shape and is one of the first forms of athletic competition. The origins of running as a sport can be traced all the way back to the first Olympic games. In fact, it is believed that the first thirteen Olympic games had only one event, a short sprint called a stade because it was the length of the stadium.

Competitive Running

Running is one of three kinds of events that fall under the title "track and field." When running, jumping and throwing all around combined in one contest it is called a triathlon.

Competitors in different races must take different matters into consideration when training. Since long distance running requires a great deal of endurance, longer distance runners work on stamina in order to stay strong throughout an entire race. Spinters, on the other hand, must simply move across a track at the greatest possible speed.

Most races are characterized by the distance being run, like the hundred meter dash, but others have more descriptive names, like the steeplechase.

The steeplechase, named for its similarity to a hunting course, is one of the more interesting events to watch. It shares far more in common with an obstacle course than it does with the hundred-meter dash. The various barriers and hazards must be avoided by the runner rough the obstacles without becoming injured or off balance.

Reasons to Run

Running is an easy, low maintenance sport that requires very little in the way of equipment. There is an entire industry based on the creating accessories for running but running shoes are just about the only important accessory.

There are many reasons for competitors and non-competitors to run. It is an excellent means of losing weight, restoring energy as well as allowing a certain amount of time each day that is free for thinking through serious issues in life.

There are countless health reasons to run. It is one of the most effective ways of achieving cardiovascular fitness, is excellent for the heart and has even been shown as a great way to reduce stress. <bio>Adam Walters has been an avid runner since High School. Today you can find him running a marathon once per year and training year round in his quiet Tennessee neighborhood.
You have no doubt heard of long slow distance runs or LSD for short. I prefer to call these types of runs, running slow to run fast. This weekly long run is the cornerstone of all distance running programs. By adding the use of heart rate monitors a runner can improve the effectiveness of long runs significantly.

A simple formula is needed to calculate the effort level of these runs. The formula 180bpm minus the user's age was popularized by the great triathlete Mark Allen. Using this formula Mark Allen went onto to build his enormous aerobic capacity.

(180bm - your age = heart rate limit)

Example:

180bpm

=

-

35 years old

= 145 bpm heart rate limit

After your heart rate limit for your long run is calculated you are ready to run. Always keep your heart rate under your limit. If your heart rate will not stay below this number either slow down your pace or terminate the workout. Going above the heart rate limit will not increase your aerobic capacity.

Many athletes think that running at a slower pace will make them slow runners. In fact running too hard every day will cause over training. The body needs time to get stronger and adapt to the new stresses. Running at this lower heart rate three times a week and adding some faster runs will improve your conditioning dramatically.

An added benefit using this formula is mental toughness. Many runners who aspire to run marathons can use this formula on their marathon training runs. By staying in the aerobic zone training runs will last longer before exhaustion occurs. And the mental toughness required running marathons will also happen.

As the aerobic system improves your ability to run harder paces will also improve. This is why I call this type of running, running slow to run fast. The body's ability to use oxygen is a limiting factor of running pace.

By running one longer distance run each week of over 90 minutes. Adding a couple easy running days at your target heart rate, plus different types of speed work you will become faster guaranteed. <bio>author of Run2Fast http://www.run2fast.com </bio>

Being injured while out for a run is actually very common. Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself. Running injuries, while common, have a large range when it comes to severity. A running injury could be something minor like a pulled muscle, or something serious like a fractured ankle or a torn ligament. No matter how serious or minor the running injury may be, there are ways to prevent a painful injury.

Some Helpful Prevention Hints

The oldest trick in the books is to stretch before your workout. Everyone has heard about the importance of stretching, but amazingly there are still people out there who don't think stretching before running is important. These people are at great risk for injuries like pulled and strained muscles as well as stretched or torn ligaments.

Not only is it important to stretch before a run, it is also important to stretch after your work out to prevent lactic acid from pooling in your muscles. It is when you fail to stretch after your run and allow lactic acid to build up that you are at greatest risk for muscle injuries like pulls and strains. Stretching will relieve muscle tension and increase muscle fiber flexibility, so your muscles will move a little more freely the next time you run.

What Parts of the Body are Most Likely to be Injured During a Run?

The knees, ankles, calves, shins, Achilles tendons and the feet are most commonly injured among runners. In fact, about a quarter of all endurance runners will injure their knees at some point. The knee is at such danger because it is the largest joint and it absorbs a great deal of force.

If you are new to running, it is especially important that you don't over exert yourself. Take it slowly; don't increase the difficulty level of your workout drastically. For example, if you begin by running one mile every day for a week with very little difficulty, don't try to run ten miles the next week. Instead run one and a half, or two miles.

Don't Be Cheap; Treat Your Feet!

A good pair of shoes is paramount to preventing some of the more serious running injuries, especially internal injuries to the feet and knees. Don't be afraid to ask a sales representative to help you choose the best athletic shoe for your needs, this is what these people are paid to do.

Running is a safe and self rewarding activity, and as long as you keep the tips mentioned in mind, you can keep the risk of enduring a painful injury minimal. <bio>For more Running and Fitness articles, please visit http://www.digitalexcellent.com/running/ </bio>

A marathon is the ultimate dream for many runners. People who have been running for years and some that have never run a day in their life love the idea of finishing a marathon. There seems to be something magical about the concept of a marathon, almost as if it seems super-human to compete in one or even to complete one.

Have you been pondering the idea of running a marathon for fun or for competition? If so, you must know that it takes months of hard and consistent preparation before the dream can become a reality because a marathon is no walk in the park.

One of the best strategies for making the dream of a marathon possible for you is to find a partner. Talk to your friends and find someone who is willing to begin the journey of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/marathon+training" rel="tag">marathon training with you. Figure out a way to mesh your schedules so that you can train together, at least on your long runs. You've heard it said that 'no man is an island,' and that concept it certainly true when it comes to preparing for your first marathon. Most people last a few weeks at best when they have no one to train with and no one to hold them accountable as the training schedule becomes more intense.

Once you've found the perfect marathon partner you should also take time to research the best training schedule for your time, needs and running goals. Getting on a specific schedule for marathon training will prevent you from overworking yourself or underworking yourself. It is no easy thing to get your body in shape for a twenty-six mile run, so make it a priority to find a schedule and then stick to it.

Talk to your physician about your dream of running a marathon. It is never a bad idea to check with a healthcare professional for any warnings or advice. See if your physician has any suggestions for ways to supplement your training with adjustments to your eating or sleeping habits. Proper eating and sleeping will only benefit the physical training you do to prepare for the marathon.

Running a marathon is something that many people dream about but far fewer people actually accomplish it. With some careful planning and a lot of dedication you can be one of the few that makes the dream of running a marathon a reality. <bio>Julee Mitchelson has been running marathons and encouraging others to join her for several years. A good pair of running shoes can be an important investment that can vary in style and function. When deciding to buy shoes makes sure you are purchasing the shoes for the right activity. Running shoes are manufactured for specific activity. When shopping for running shoes you should not look at the fancy designs but the functionality and durability of the shoe. The best women's running shoes are designed to give the feet control, stability and cushioning. Finding the perfect pair of running shoes is part science and part art, with a healthy dose of research thrown in. There are many different running shoes today; there are those that can be used on grass, mountain trails and on tar. The majorities of running shoes are development and produced so the shoes can be used on sidewalks or road surfaces because this is where many of the runners run today.

The shoe should have about a thumbs' width of space more than the full size of the feet. The middle foot area should have a secure and comfortable resting place beneath it. Also, be sure to try on both shoes. On many people one foot is usually bigger than the other foot. Inside the shoe is a stiffened cup encasing the toes known as the box, or block? The place over the toe is called the vamp, the opening near the toes is called the throat of the shoe.

Shoes that are well made have the ability to provide a rubber sole that can give good traction while an athlete is in motion, this will reduce the chance of getting injured. Shoes with motion control are especially recommended for athletes' with flat feet or over pronator. Give serious consideration to buying a motion control running shoe if you wear orthotics or have flat feet. A shoe with motion control is a good stable shoe to choose.

Just like many of the advanced technologies like ipods, cell phones the running shoe has technically evolved in the marketplace. Running shoes are very important for the runner, it helps with balance and the runner needs a great shoe to absorb the shock to the leg and the shoe needs to be strong to handle the impact when the runner is running. Running shoes are designed for sporting activities. Runners benefit from the combination of cardiovascular and aerobic activity. Buying a good pair of running shoes is very important, in general running shoes should be replaced every 3-4 months, the new running shoes come in many different styles. At the top of this list was clearly a high-quality pair of running shoes. The key components of a perfect pair of running shoes are cushioning, stability and durability. Most of the common injuries when shoes are not fit properly are pains in the knee, arch pain which is under your foot and a sharp pain the heel. <bio>David Marc Fishman sells merchandise inexpensively using auctions.
If you want to make great strides with fat loss from your exercise routines, you should consider adding running to your list of exercises. All you need is a pair of running sneakers, warm clothes (on cold days) and you're ready to go.

The good news is that you don't have to run very long distances or for long durations to get results. However, after a few weeks you'll be able to jog for a longer durations of time and distance.

You get results by running on an interval basis for 20 -- 25 minutes. For example, you can walk for a minute and then jog for a minute for 10 intervals and you can get a great work out in. You're body will actually burn fat from interval running.

There are many benefits that come with adding jogging or running to your exercise routine. Here are some that come to mind.

For one, jogging can provide the physical challenge needed to keep you interested in working out. Remember, jogging requires your whole body to perform the movement without any help with a machine. Sure you can use a treadmill. But the treadmill doesn't do the work for you (at least in my case).

Physical challenges are great for people who spend all of their day leading a sedentary lifestyle. A good challenge may be trying to run a mile in 10 minutes. Achieving these challenges can build pride and confidence.

Running, of course, is one of the many exercises that help you relax. You are using your major muscle groups and using a lot of oxygen from the aerobic exercise. You can easily relieve stress and tension and focus your mind elsewhere instead of common problems. Especially, if you're committed to reaching a physical goal you set for yourself.

If you like to start adding running to your work out, you should seek the advice of your doctor to make sure you are ready. If haven't tried running in a long time or feel you are too heavy to jog, you should start off very slowly and with something easy.

You could always interval train because you will still get results. For example, you may want to try and walk for 3 minutes and jog for a minute until you reach 20 minutes. After, executing the workout for a few sessions, you may start feeling like you want to run more.

After a short while, you may see dramatic improvement in your endurance. From there you will start seeing the benefits of running. If you are trying to lose weight you'll melt the fat away. <bio>For a great book filled with exercise routines to keep you active for a long time, check out our review of Turbulence Training at http://www.addfitness.com/turbulence-training.htm </bio>

Staying Motivated to Run

Do you have a hard time staying motivated to run? There are a lot of things that can affect your desire to go running. In f act, every runner, even those who are passionate about it, often experiences times when they would rather be doing anything but running. In order to stay motivated to run, it is important to understand that a lot of these "reasons" are actually just excuses. And excuses often indicate a simple lack of motivation.

The good news is, these issues are very easy to overcome, especially if you understand all that running can do for you. It improves your health and your mood and is very good exercise. When you feel as if your motivation for running is not as good as it can be, use some, or all, of these tips to get you going.

Understand Why You Like Running

After you get back from a particularly successful run, get a piece of paper and write down exactly why you love running. Keep this list in a safe place. Now, when you can think of a million things you would rather be doing, read the list. Use it as a way to inspire you and get you out the door.

Prepare the Night Before

If you go running in the morning, lay out your clothes and shoes the night before. Sometimes, it is difficult getting moving in the morning. When you are groggy, the last thing you want to do is shuffle around for your clothes. If you make the process of getting dressed simple, you will be more likely to stick with it.

Train for an Event

Sometimes, having an event to train for is a great motivator. It doesn't need to be a marathon. You can pick something a little less involved, like a 5K or a 10K. Select an event, choose a training program, and stick with it. If you want even more to shoot for, choose a running event that is a benefit for charity. Not only will you have a goal to help you stay focused, but you can also help raise money for your favorite charity.

Find a Running Partner

Some people like to run by themselves because they enjoy the solitude. However, others have a difficult time getting motivated unless they have someone to run with. If you need to run with people, you can either find a running partner or join a running group. It can be fun to train with others, especially if you all share the same goals.

Run With Music

Music can also be very motivating. If you have a difficult time concentrating during your runs or if you have chosen not to run because you think it is too boring, try bringing some music along with you. Choose something that is upbeat and lively so that it will help you move more quickly. <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for The Runner's Guide.
Do you love to run, but are having a hard time finding simple ways to make positive differences in your running. This article will reveal effective and simple to apply techniques that work.

Rest is the most often overlooked element of all activities. I'm not talking about watching TV all day and eating chips. I'm speaking of a good night's sleep. Runners being a highly motivated crowd tend to overdo it. Working long hours, taking care of their families and other activities. Trying to add a running program on top of all that can lead to exhaustion.

What is a simple solution to this problem? Scheduling time for a good night's rest. A regular sleeping pattern will not only improve your running but many other aspects of your life. Tiredness causes short tempers and irritability that affects not only you but those around you. Can't fall asleep at night? Try to not consume caffeine pat one in the afternoon. Still having trouble sleeping. You may be suffering from overtraining. Try resting a couple of days and then resume training.

Strides are short bursts of fast paced running in the middle or at the end of an easy run. After a long winter of base mileage or just beginning a running program strides are very effective. Strides are 15 seconds of relaxed, fast paced running. These are not sprints. Rest for as long as you like between efforts. Strides are relaxing and leg stretching fast paced running. Run a couple strides each day to bring back the zip in your legs. As the weeks go by add a couple more until you're ready for more formal speed training. Beginners can use strides to prepare for their first race.

Over distance runs are the basis of all running programs. Over distance runs can be used for any type of training. From the mile to the marathon. Length of an over distance run is considered to be from one hour to three hours. Beginners can walk and run for an hour. By running 5 minutes and walking 5 minutes, an hour of walk running can greatly increase ones fitness level and still not cause great fatigue. As fitness improves a runner can decrease the walking and increase the running until a whole hour of running is reached. A great way to improve all race distances is to run longer once a week. Always remember to keep the running at a conversational pace. <bio>Curt Shryack of Moline,IL is the author of Fatigue Nutrition and Endurance Exercise. http://www.fatiguenutrition.com </bio>
