Does the thought of a family road trip strike fear into your heart? During the past 25 years, my family has taken many road trips traveling thousands of miles and we have great memories from those trips.

When we first started out, truthfully, we just threw our trips together and hit the road. But as time went on, we came to see the wisdom of planning our road trips a bit. If you are considering a family road trip, you'll find some simple upfront planning will make all the difference in your travels.

Using a road trip checklist, you will save money, sanity, and time, as well as make sure your vacation is as fun as it can be. You can also make sure each member of your family pulls their own weight (depending upon age, of course), teaching them that great vacations are made, not born.

You can make your own road trip checklist (keep it on your computer for repeated usage) or feel free to use mine (see the resource box at the end of this article). On it, you'll want to keep track of such things as...

- your travel budget (make sure your money gets spent on what you REALLY want), - what food to take in the car (save big over buying snacks in gas stations), - travel activities and games (you want to have fun, right?), - vital extras that can actually make or break a family road trip, - and destination details such as directions, phone numbers and ticket information.

When it comes to family road trips you will find success is in the details. For example,

- a mess in the car is no big deal when you have plenty of extra plastic bags and moist towelettes. But if you don't have any of these items, a sick kid or a spilled drink can ruin everyone's vacation mood...for many, many miles.

- Worried about hearing "are we there yet" so many times your ears will pop? You can cut these words significantly with the right amount and type of travel activities. But do you know how to structure those activities for maximum effectiveness?

A road trip can save you quite a bit of money compared to the cost of flying your family to your vacation destination. In addition, you won't need a rental car once you get there.

However, you will be, in effect, living in your car with several people for several days. The more detailed your road trip checklist, the more satisfied you will be with your overall road trip experience. For example, by scheduling your meals and activities, you can make the trip itself as much a part of your vacation as your destination.

A road trip is an especially great way to spend long chunks of quality, unhurried time together as a family. This is where you will make the sweetest memories, Mom or Dad. It will be just your family in that car, to talk, to sing, and to laugh together for hours on end.

Just remember to take along your patience and your flexibility. Those are two qualities no successful road trip can be without. <bio>Colleen Langenfeld has been parenting for over 25 years and helps other moms enjoy mothering more at http://www.paintedgold.com.
It is very exciting to plan a road trip whether it is with your family or friends. It gives you the chance to visit the different places and maximize your vacation experience. Many also find peace in driving. Steering the wheel and listening to their favorite song is very relaxing for them.

However, going on a road trip is more than hopping on your wheels, keeping your map handy, and loading your car with the Coleman Road Trip Grill. For it to be memorable, you need to plan it carefully and bring the essential items during the trip.

The first thing that you have to do in planning a road trip is your destinations. Most would say that not knowing where you are heading is part of the adventure but this will not be fun if you run out of gas in the middle of nowhere where the cell phone reception is bad. Plan your pit stops as well. Find out whatever you can about the place and write them down. This will also help you organize your activities and come up with your schedule. This will help you find a perfect spot to take out the Coleman Road Trip Grill and enjoy your favorite barbecue. Most importantly, it will give you the chance to review the traffic rules and laws especially when you are crossing boundaries.

After you have planned where you are going, it is important that you check your car. Make sure that everything is in condition for the trip. If possible, ask a professional to check it. Consider the place where you are heading. Is the road going to be tough? How far is it? Will it be easy to find a gas station?

Have a checklist of what to bring especially with the food supply. This makes planning your destinations very vital. You will be able to plan your meals. This will give you an idea of how much food to bring. How many times are you going to use the Coleman Road Trip Grill? How long will the trip take? Are there convenient stores where you can stop and get more items?

After finishing your checklist, do the tasking. Assign tasks to everyone so that they will not be asking you for everything during the trip. Write the list of people who will be joining the trip and list their assignments. One will be in charge for the first aid kit and map. Tell another to take charge of the food. You can also delegate a friend to facilitate the Coleman Road Trip Grill and coordinate with the food in charge.

You also have to pay attention to little details, like what time are you going to drive. Is there someone who will be sharing the driving task with you? What music are you going to listen to and other stuff like that.

It is also important to have a plan B at all times. Look for alternative roads just in case you encounter a problem. Bring extra tires, extra phone batteries, and extra Coleman Road Trip Grill.

Road trips are fun, but it can turn bad if something goes wrong. So be prepared, always.<bio>Nicole Munoz is a camping gear expert. She is an online marketer and entrepreneur.
Hitting the road any time of the year can be a fun way to get where you want to go and for many can be nothing more freeing at times especially with the right crew in tow (friends, kids, family, etc). For years and years road trips have been an American tradition from coast to coast, north to south or even going as far south as Mexico or far north as Canada. The variety of reasons for the road trip range from frivolous fancy, to family vacations to following around your favorite band or sports team. Before you hit the open road in your own road trip mobile or rent a road trip ready car there are some things you should know.

Which Way to Go?
Do you want to take the darts to the map method or did you have a specific reason for you highway adventures? There are several factors to consider.

•	How much time do you have?
•	How far do you want to go?
•	Will this be point A to point B trip or will you make stops along the way?

Let's say you've decided to go from Atlanta to Richmond and along the way you stop off in Chapel Hill to catch an ACC game. Or maybe this is the year you make it to the Grand Ole Opry? Who knows? Best bet is to pick your destination, who you want to go with and then do some planning on time, where to stay, budget and final destination. All the stuff in between is what road trip legends are made out of.

Wheels Man, Wheels
Option A -- take the beat up jalopy that barely gets you to work on time or head online to your favorite car rental company and pick up a sweet ride that will not only get you down the road of fun but offer a better chance of not breaking down. Maybe you don't have a beat up old car. You'll probably still want to take your vehicle in for a road trip tune-up to make sure everything is working well. Also make sure that Triple AAA card is paid up, you have a couple of decent maps and some quality GPS technology. Getting all that in order, with keys in hand, the road most traveled, less traveled or never traveled eagerly awaits you.

All Together Now
You've got the ride, you've got the crew, and you've got the snacks, map, and destination. There are still a few things you want to throw in for good measure. Take a camera, preferably something durable that you can use for some goofy candid shots or the world's largest ball of yarn. Don't stress if you get lost. That's part of taking a road trip. Sometimes you get lost and that detour ends up becoming a hidden, unplanned treasure. The key to any successful road trip is to be prepared and to be prepared for anything.<bio>Car Rental MariettaRent Car Marietta</bio>

There's nothing like a great soundtrack for your road trip to really make the miles fly by. Rather than just bringing a collection of your favorite CDs, why not look into making your own mixed disc with all the favorite songs of everyone who will be going along on the trip.

With the right tunes, you can really enjoy even the longest of road trips. Just think back to all the movies you've seen where they play upbeat music as the characters speed across the countryside. We all want to be like that, so, while you can't montage your trip into a two minute scene, you can certainly spice it up with some good music.

Choosing Summer Road Trip Songs

Your songs don't have to actually involve road trips, but it sure lends a fun air if they talk about traveling and cars, which is why most of the tunes on the majority of song lists are all about being on the move. This just seems appropriate for a car full of people whizzing down the highway and they are also usually songs that you already know and can sing along to.

Look for songs that are upbeat and will keep you bobbing your head and tapping the steering wheel . . . the last thing you want is to fall asleep to some slow ballad that doesn't inspire anyone in the car to sing. Songs that are easy to sing along to are an excellent way to draw fellow passengers out of their stupor and get them bouncing around and air-strumming to the music.

When you do find those songs for a road trip, it's a good idea to put a lot onto your disk or MP3 player. This is because a long trip will quickly exhaust your options. You don't want to be listening to the same ten songs over and over again every hour! So consider putting at least 50-100 songs together for your road trip compilation. This will give you a good 4-8 hours of music and you won't have to get bored of any particular song, unless, of course, you want to and hit repeat over and over.

If you are having troubles finding enough songs for the compilation, recruit your passengers. Get them to each chip in 10 or 20 songs that they enjoy and you can all be introduced to some new tunes while also enjoying your own favorites. Mix the song order up a bit so you won't have each person's favorites all in a row . . . this way it will be more interesting for everyone and if there is something you don't really like, it's only one song long.

While you will most certainly have your own favorite music, there are a few timeless pieces that simply must be included on every summer road trip song list. Here they are:

Top Road Trip Songs

• Hotel California -- The Eagles
• Ramblin' Man -- The Allman Brothers
• Highway Star -- Deep Purple
• California Dreaming -- Beach Boys
• Life is a Highway -- Tom Cochrane
• Truckin' - Grateful Dead
• Light My Fire -- The Doors
• Roadhouse Blues -- The Doors
• American Woman -- Guess Who
• One Headlight -- The Wallflowers

This list could go on for days, as you can well imagine, but these are some of the best songs out there for listening on the road. They are great to sing along to, they boost morale and get everyone bopping in the car . . . all ingredients for a great summer road trip song list.<bio>Canadian auto club offering roadside assistance in Ontario.</bio>

You just planned your road trip for the summer and you're getting excited while you do your research. What if I told you there were a million and one ways to save money on your next trip and all it took was a little browsing over an article? Sounds good, doesn't it? Well, I'm here today to show you how you can save a few bucks on you next road trip and still see everything you want to while driving the roads of the earth.

Eat at the no names -- When it comes to a road trip, many Americans find themselves becoming very comfortable with corporations and their buildings. What does this mean? Most Americans don't want to taste what America offers, instead they want to eat with what they are familiar with. This includes restaurants like TGIFridays and McDonalds. Instead of eating at these places, try the mom and pop shops. You'll be surprised at what you can find that relates to deals. Most places offer early bird and late bird specials that will blow away corporate America prices. Make sure you check out these places when you're on the road, you might find a hidden gem with great food!

Go big with snacks -- Instead of stopping at every gas station you see and filling up on one dollar bags of chips, go out to the grocery store before your trip and buy eight pack of sodas and big bag of chips. Not only will you save on money, you'll also get more food for your money. If you don't have a lot of room, get a simple small cooler that can fit a few sodas and store them in there and keep the rest warm. A eight pack of soda should only cost you a few dollars compared to the gas stations that charge you a dollar fifty for one bottle.

Find the cheap gas -- If you have a PDA or GPS system, you're already in the running to find the cheapest gas. Most PDAs and GPS systems today have software that will enable you to find the cheapest gas in your area. If you use this software all the time while travelling, this can save you a few dollars alone. If you don't have a GPS system, try and travel off the highway a little bit, the gas stations that are expensive tend to be next to the highway. If you can avoid these, this may lead you to one of the cheaper gas stations.

Going on a road trip can be a blast and it's even more exciting when you can save a lot of money. When you travel, just use your head. Don't stay at the Hilton if you're going to be there for a few hours, instead, stay at a place that only charges forty dollars a night. When you're not going to be somewhere for a long time, it's pointless to stay at a fancy place. The next time you go on a road trip, be sure to keep these tips in mind.<bio>Find gas credit cards and more of Tom's work at FINDgascards.</bio>

I am one of those people that always gets a little board when I drive. I love to be in the car, but I get a little ansy when I have nothing other than driving to do. Being in the car with friends or family is great because then we can share good conversation, but I don't always have people in the car with me. I recently took a long road trip across most of the country. It sounds crazy, but I actually drove from Virginia to Oregon and back for a project I was working on. I started looking at license plates to pass the time.

I agreed to do the long road trip for my job. My magazine editor was looking for a writer who would take two months away from the office and write a series of pieces about traveling across country in a car without maps and without a plan of where to stay or where to travel. I took the offer without thinking about my disdain for being in the car alone for hours on end. And let me assure you that this project required long hours alone. Within a hundred miles of leaving our office in Virginia I had begun searching for different license plates. I got out a notepad and began to record each of the different license plates I saw.

My goal became to see all the license plates of the fifty states and as many varieties of each state license plate in the two months of my road trip. I figured that in that amount of time on high ways and roads in so many states I'd have a really good chance of seeing all the license plates. I doubted that I'd come across Hawaii or Alaska, but I was hopeful about the other forty eight states.

You wouldn't believe how much of my energy was taken up during that road trip by searching for various license plates. It kept me awake during long stretches of road when I would usually be bored and distracted. I loved keeping track of the license plates and of how close I was getting to my goal. I told friends, family and co-workers about my main source of entertainment during the trip and I receive a variety of reactions from them. Some thought that looking for license plates was a great way to pass the time, others laughed at my goal and thought I should be doing more productive things during the two months on the road. <bio>Martin Stoleman is a writer for a popular magazine. He loved his two months on the road and he loved searching for license plates. Situated in Colorado's southwest, this picturesque destination effortlessly enthralls its visitors with a breathtaking landscape of snow-capped mountains, serene lakes and meadows dotted with wild flowers.

With its laid back feel and unspoiled beauty, and featuring an elevation of more than twelve thousand feet, The Loop is a place that will surely make for a memorable family road trip or a sought-after outing with friends. Such a Colorado road trip will help you discover that The Loop is not lacking in activities to keep you - and everyone in the group - happily occupied. From hiking and biking, to several great camping options, or simply lounging away the hours sightseeing, a weekend trip here will open up the wonders of the great outdoors.

For starters, try navigating your trip map to check out some of the most popular attractions The Loop has to offer. If you want to get breathtaking views at an altitude of 12,800 feet, then the Engineer Pass should definitely be included in your family trip planning. It is bordered by Mt. Sneffels in the east, Uncompahgre Peak in the northeast, and the vanished Lake City in the east. Now, if you want to bask in a little solitude and detour from your companions, a trip alone to the Whitmore Falls will revive your senses. The falls can easily be reached after a short trail.

Another great Colorado road trip is the GUANELLA PASS. If you want a family road trip that combines your historical interest without boring your kids to death (let's face it, very few children will find staring at old buildings amusing), then you might consider going on a road trip to Guanella Pass. This scenic pass, located in Colorado, stretches for 22 miles. The driving time takes roughly two hours, but with diverse things to catch your attention along the way. The trip map of Guanella Pass begins at Georgetown, an utterly quaint and charming place that reflects a great deal of Colorado's genteel past. Plan a stopover there and take in the well-preserved old buildings, many of which have been converted to museums. While you're looking at precious artifacts, let your kids explore the town via carriage rides, which is one of the most popular attractions of Georgetown - with good reason.

When you think you've had enough sightseeing, head on to Idaho Springs, which is situated nearby. There are several hot springs you can opt to soak in, and of course the tranquil view helps you relax even more. When everyone has replenished their energy, continue your road trip through the old gold mines, or a countryside dining experience the whole family can enjoy.

If at last you're ready to call it a day, there are bed and breakfasts you can stay in along the South Platte River. And don't forget to cap off your road trip checking out the famous Coney Island Hot Dog Stand in Bailey! <bio>If you are interested to learn more about road trip planning, please visit our road trip blog at http://blog.tripwiser.com/roadtrip. </bio>

With ticket prices soaring higher it is become much wiser to plan a road trip when you're going on vacation. Sure, plane travel can be more convenient and much quicker; it is often much less reliable because of the new airline safety procedures and the chances for a delay. Plus, a road trip can add quality to any vacation! Here is a guide to planning a road trip to the best of your abilities, what to take and how to stay occupied!

What you need to bring:

=95 Cell phone! Cell phones are pretty important just in case you need it or have any car trouble. Cell phones are a form of safety and protection for road warriors!

=95 Have a map! The best maps out there usually come from the internet nowadays because they are the most up to date. Look at Google Maps or Yahoo! Maps. These maps are great because they give driving directions and estimated time.

=95 Check your car over ahead of time! Check your oil, put air in your tires and make sure you don't have any leaks! If you are traveling a far distance you will want to make sure you don't break down quickly or anytime soon!

=95 Spare tire! Make sure you have a spare tire and make sure that it is in good condition! If you need to change a tire it will go much quicker if you actually have a usable one on you.

=95 Have an emergency kit! Inside your emergency kit should be: a flashlight, road flares, blanket, tool kit, gloves, towel, jumper cables, first aid kit, duct tape, water, spare parts and a pocket knife.

Here are some helpful things you may want to stay occupied and busy on your trip:

=95 Music! Long road trips can get kind of boring so it isn't a bad idea to take some sort of music, whether a CD player or an I-pod. Make sure you have an adapter for your car as well.

=95 Books! If there are other drivers with you, you should bring reading material for the times you aren't behind the wheel.

=95 Blankets! You will want warm blankets and pillows for comfort because as you probably know by now, cars are not the most comfortable places to sleep! Blankets and pillows will turn any car into a bed!

=95 Snacks! Have a bag of snacks and a cooler of ice and sodas because it will cut down on the number of stops you have to make. <bio>Article written by Mark Hammond Marketing Manager of http://www.nationalhotels.co.uk - UK Accommodation Finder and Travel Information website. </bio>

Adventure awaits those who would opt to travel on the road. What is great about any road trip is the various cities and towns that you will be passing by along the way. You get to visit more places while you are on your way to your destination.

You also get to see not only the beautiful scenery but meet new people as well. You could even make a stop if you want to. But like any other trip, you can't expect it to be smooth sailing all the way. One way or another, problems are likely to occur so it is important that you are on your guard and be prepared for whatever may happen along the way.

If you are going on a road trip the first thing that you would need to check would be the vehicle that you will be driving. It is essential to have it evaluated by the mechanic if it is in good running condition to bring you to your destination. Do a routine check on the tires, oil, engine, etc. Don't forget to bring along a spare tire and some tools just in case you may encounter some mechanical problems along the way. Always have some gas in the tank. You may never know where the next gas stop would be along the way.

If you will be traveling with other people, take turns to drive so that the other person would get to rest especially if it is a very long drive. Driving can be tiring especially if you plan on driving non-stop. If the driver feels sleepy and no one can take his place it is advisable to take a stop to avoid accidents on the road. It is imperative also that the driver is not drunk when driving.

To avoid interruptions, stick to a travel plan. If you want to arrive on time in your destination, map out how frequent you will be stopping and on what points you will be making a stop. If you don't want the trip to be delayed, avoid making unnecessary stops.

Bring an emergency kit along with you. Have with you medicines, extra food, a blanket, and a whistle to alert others in case of emergencies. It is ideal also to bring scissors. You never know you may need to cut something like maybe breaking free from your seatbelt when you get stuck. A hammer would also be useful in breaking the glass in case you get trapped inside the vehicle.

Lastly, to ensure everybody's safety avoid giving rides to hitchhikers. You may never know if you are giving a ride to a serial killer or a maniac. It is best to be on the safe side so that you will reach your destination safely and securely. <bio>Mary Lorainne writes about http://www.traveldealsdiscounts.com </bio>

Road trips can be a very enjoyable form of recreation. There are a lot of adrenalin pumping activities you can do on the road. However, the current high gas prices may prevent you from fully enjoying this past time to its fullest. If you are planning on a road trip, then you must be looking for a gas saving tip. Luckily, there is a way of stretching and saving your gas money and this is by using gas cards.

Basically, there are two types of gas cards- credit and prepaid. The credit gas card work just like your ordinary credit card only that you save if used to pay for gas purchases. This type of credit card offers rebates on gas purchases. Every time you use your card to pay for gas purchases, you earn rebates in the form of rewards points. The current rebates in the gas credit card market are usually from 2% to 5%. This is only a small percentage but if used against your accumulated gas consumption, results to big savings. Road trips usually use up a lot of gas, so imagine the savings you will earn if you use gas cards.

In using gas cards, you have to be careful to pay your balance in full and on time every billing period. If not, your balance will be charged with an annual percentage or APR and this interest can eat out your savings. The rates vary, depending on the card company, usually from 9.99% to 16.99%.

A prepaid gas card on the other hand, is a type of gas rebate card that you can have more control on. The amount that is carried by the card can be controlled since you load it with a certain amount before it can be used. The good thing is, aside from the regular rebate, loads are often sold at a discount. With prepaid gas cards, you get more chances on bigger savings.

If you decide to use gas cards for your road trip, there are several things that you need to consider. The first thing is the percentage rebate of the card; you should go for cards that offer that rebate but beware of introductory rates. Some card offers introductory rates of up to 10%. While it is okay to go with cards that offer introductory rates, be sure that what you get in the regular period is still the highest percentage rebate. Another thing you should consider is the form of rewards; cash back rewards offer more chances for bigger savings. And lastly, be wary of fees and interests of gas credit cards. Most cards do no have annual fees, so choose a card that doesn't have one. And the APR is also something you should think about , if you plan to maintain a balance on your card.

Gas cards offers you an opportunity for gas money savings for your road trip. A great way to enjoy your road trip to its fullest!<bio>GasCardsGalore.com offers free applications for gas credit cards online.
Taking your kids on a long car ride may be inevitable in many situations and it will likely produce some whining and crying. You can, however, take a few precautionary measures to avoid some major problems and help your kids pass the time in the car without too much trouble. Planning ahead and bringing along enough critical supplies is the best way to start planning on taking your kids on a road trip.

Pack the Right Stuff

You'll want to make sure that you've packed the right stuff for your trip, first and foremost. Give each child a special backpack or bag that contains items that they can use for the trip and some food for the voyage. Crayons, books, activity sets, sticker books, handheld games, and other goodies can be in each child's bag. This allows your children to pull out activities as they want and entertain themselves. These goodie bags are especially ideal if you are the lone driver during the road trip.

Pace the Journey

Make sure that you allow enough time for rest stops along the way. Kids will need to use the restroom and will need to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. You probably will need a bit of a break from driving, too, so set a pattern that you can follow throughout the trip in terms of rest stops. Take a break every two hours or so and stick to a good break schedule. This will help your kids anticipate the times of the stops.

Allow Time for Play

Along with the rest stops, try to stop in at a fun restaurant along the way that has playrooms or a playground facility. Many fast food restaurants can provide kids with entertaining playroom facilities that will help your kids get a break from the monotony of the road. You'll like it too, as you'll be able to relax with a cup of coffee and watch your kids play before you carry on with the car trip.

Snack It Up

Snacks are important, so make sure that you bring plenty of snack options that are healthy and exciting for your kids. Pack some crackers and some cheese or some fruit snacks and let your kids tear into them at their leisure. Including the snacks in the goodie bags is a good idea, but keep some more up front with you in case your kids get overly eager and finish their snacks before you've left your driveway. You can also choose to distribute snacks yourself, but this can get tricky if you are the one driving.

Don't Rush

The most critical thing about taking a road trip with kids is to not rush the trip. You don't want to set unreasonable goals and try to make it to your destination as quickly as possible, as this can lead to cranky children and unsafe driving habits. Instead, give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination and allow for all sorts of stops along the way. Too often, we forget to enjoy the journey of a good road trip and, instead, charge ahead to our destination.
One of the worst things to do when planning a cross-country bike trip is to plan a long trip. Instead, think of each day as a single one-day trip. The metal stress of thinking of crossing the east, prairies, desert, and Rockies, is enough to make the trip seem impossible.

Just plan one rest stop to the next, one day at a time, conquer each state individually. That's the mind game behind the trip Many bicycle fans dream of a cross-country trip, but few do it. The biggest roadblock is the time commitment needed. A physically fit, experienced bicyclist requires almost three months.

The best way to overcome this is to take time off college or work and do the entire trip in one try. The second way is to break the trip into several segments.

While purists may consider the second way as a cheat, not really a cross country road trip, each individual needs to ask themselves whether they want to prove they have the endurance make the entire trip in one shot, or to see the country from the seat of a bike.

Cost

Even if you rough it, the trip will cost $4,000 to $5,000, more if you hope to spend most nights in a motel.

Don't skimp on the bicycle. Expect to pay $1,200 or more for a genuine touring model. Take the time to read issues of Bicycle magazines and web blogs, so you can see what problems others faced. One example, might be stopping at a good bike shop as the terrain changes for a new set of tires.

Fitness

A cross country trip does not need an Olympic athlete. To cross the country in 3 months requires riding 50 miles a single day, every day. You will need to train before the trip. It will take a few days riding with your equipment on the bike to prepare your muscles.

It is also important to start out slow. You might be pumped enough to do 50 miles a day for the first few days, but you risk pulling a muscle and ruining the whole trip. Start out slow, prepare to take a slow day when needed, and listen to your body.

Fear

The media has made it impossible to imagine a road trip without running into danger. As the trip draws near you'll imagine everything from gangsters in the city, to drunk drivers, to mountain lions lurking on a ridge.

Most roads are quiet, but shoulders were often non-existent. It is important to remain alert and cautious. Never assume that drivers in every section of the country will be accustomed to sharing the road with bikers.

Route planning requires research. This is where reading blogs and information from people who have taken the trip comes in handy. You can learn which roads are good to follow, which have 'unforseen' problems. A map may show a road, but it won't tell you if there is no shoulder at the side, or if there is too much traffic.

The TransAmerica Trail is a safe bet. The drivers are use to driving with bikers.

The time of year can also change the 'best route'. It is a good idea to track the weather.

For more help visit journals of long-distance cyclists at www.crazyguyonabike.com <bio>Chip Clark helps people explore bicycling as a hobby at his site http://www.bicyclefever.com Drop by and download the FREE guide. </bio>

Even in trying times, it's nice to have a little bit of fun. Vacations and holidays are just around the corner and the best part about it is summer is here! But with the rising cost of expenses, you might be stuck in just one place. If you're planning on going out of town, there are ways to cut down on costs and save on money. One of these ways is to use gas cards to manage your fuel.

If you're planning that weekend down at the coast or that holiday up in the mountains but are fretting about your budget don't worry. There are ways to work around it. If you have your heart set on that road trip, by all means go. However, you should know that it is more expensive these days to go on a road trip than before. Still, there are a few ways you can save:

Bring friends!
The more friends you bring equals less individual costs all around. You'll be splitting on food, expenses, even gas. This means that you can easily cut your expenses in half or even in fourths, depending on how many people you're bringing with you. If you're going on that road trip, it will be a lot more fun with your friends and family in the car with you. Stock up on tunes, MP3s, chips and drinks so it'll be fun along the way. That'll also save you a couple of bucks so you don't have to stop in convenience stores along the way.

Get fuel a little out of the highway.
Fuel by the interstate or highways are definitely more expensive than fuel at those stations a little farther in. Just don't take a wrong turn that could get you lost. Use your maps. Plan your route so that you don't backtrack, get lost or end up someplace you don't want to be. Take a route that is both scenic and short, that way you spend less fuel. I can't stress the importance of having a well-maintained car that will help you manage your fuel consumption better.

Bring your gas card.
Why? This will help you keep track of your expenses for fuel. You can get some great dining rebates as well. Your 10 cents a gallon can translate to hundreds of dollars, depending on how many miles you go. At the very least, it'll help you with the times that you're strapped for cash. You know those mornings when you wake up hung over and wondering where the two hundred bucks in your pocket is. Well, you don't have to worry about paying for your gas if that ever happens. Also, if you're shouldering gas for the trip with friends expressing the intent to pay you later, it gives you a record of how much fuel you actually spent during the trip. At the very least, you can take advantage of auto maintenance and travel rewards during the trip itself. If your car breaks down and your car is in good status, go ahead, call it in.

The expensive cost of gas shouldn't deter you from your summer fun! Using these tips and tricks can help you have that memorable summer vacation that you've always wanted.
If you want to get the most out of your vacation, you might want to consider a road trip. Most people would agree that the more money you save up, the better a vacation you can afford. A road trip is no different, so you will want to save as much money as you can to prevent wasting money on unnecessary items or services. Your best bet for vacations is to research your trip and plan to save as much money as possible.

1. Food Costs

Food is by far the largest contributor of lost funds when travelling, especially with kids. Kids will see all the food places you will pass by and they will beg you to eat even if they aren't necessarily hungry. By packing snacks and might be even a picnic meal or two, you will save money on unnecessary stops for meals and snacks. Stop at a rest stop to stretch your legs and enjoy a picnic lunch. If you are going to make stops to eat out along your trip, keep in mind that many restaurants offer either discount prices for children (usually under the age of twelve) or deals where kids eat for free. Research this prior to the start of your trip and if you are planning on stopping at a restaurant to eat, plan your trip around these eateries. Not only will you know that your child will eat cheap, by researching the restaurant beforehand you will also have an idea of the types of food sold and whether or not everyone in your family, even the pickiest eater, will find something they like.

2. Entertainment

Like food, you may be enticed to stop at all the different tourist traps you pass along the way. Alternatively, you could try to find free entertainment. Chances are there are upwards of hundreds of attractions along the way that not only will not cost you a dime to see, but will also amaze and entertain your children. Of course, some attractions that do cost money may be unavoidable. Theme parks and other major attractions will not be free but many do offer discount rates for children and senior citizens. It is a good idea to look into this before leaving. By having a plan of places to stop and knowing what kind of discounts are offered, you will be able to keep a much tighter budget.

3. Gasoline

The price of gasoline is constantly on the rise. Filling up is therefore one of the highest costs of any trip. The smartest thing to do when buying gas is to fill up in advance of the trip so you aren't forced to fill up at a station that has unreasonable rates. Listen on the radio for gas price information if it is available in your area. Most large gas station chains offer points or rebate programs you can also take advantage of.

4. Accommodations

If your trip is especially long, you will need a place to bunker down for the night. Don't get caught at the last minute and be forced to stay at an overpriced hotel. Research your accommodations well in advance and if you can, book in advance as well. It is also a good idea to try to book a room at the hotel that offers the most complimentary services. Many hotels offer complimentary continental breakfasts that could save you $40 or more because you won't have to buy breakfast for everyone the next morning. <bio>For more great road trip related articles and resources check out http://villasource.info </bio>

A business professional can lead a pretty hectic life if they are constantly on the go, from one business trip to the next, to the next, to the...you get the point! Companies rely on their businessmen to represent them on the road, whether pitching new products or enticing potential clients. One big concern however is the safety of these business professionals. Since they are going to unfamiliar territory, sometimes in other countries, it is especially important to keep a few safety precautions in mind. Here are some tips for a business traveler when traveling!

=95 Know the area! Sure, you are probably in a place you've never been before but you can still do a little research and find out enough information to keep you safe. There are always places you will want to stay away from and places that you should visit to stay safe. Know what you can expect from each place that you go!

=95 Don't dress up! Sure, you are probably going to be wearing business suits and dress clothes on your business trips but make sure you dress down your accessories such as watches, necklaces and rings. There is nothing more that will attract a thief in a foreign city then expensive `flash'!

=95 Act like you know the area! If you want to do your best to keep the `bad guys' away from you when you're on a business trip just try to act like you are a local. Tourists and traveler's are often the first hit targets by criminals so if you pretend like you know the area and live around town you won't have as high of a chance of getting mugged or getting in trouble.

=95 Avoid bad areas! Every city, in the United States and overseas, has their bad areas. Whether this means certain streets or corners or different restaurants, you should stay away from them when on a business trip. Bad areas can get you in bad trouble and you can't guarantee your safety! Plus, your company would rather have you safe then sorry!

Business professionals can have safer business trips if they can just concentrate on staying safe while on the road. They are often labeled "road warriors" but in order for these warriors to stay safe they need to follow these important reminders! Business trips can be fun, interesting and most importantly, effective- but only if you are safe! <bio>Article written by Mark Hammond Marketing Manager of http://www.nationalhotels.co.uk - Leading UK Hotel Directory and Worldwide Accommodation Finder. </bio>

If you're one of the thousands of Americans that have planned a road trip this summer, you've probably look at the gas prices and thought twice about not going on that trip. Who would have thought that a year from today that gas prices would be almost more than four dollars a gallon. It seems as if we are just working to fill our stupid gas tanks. Well, let's not let the gas prices get in the way of our family fun time. Instead, let's live life and still go on that vacation and not pay a penny extra.

Plan the trip ahead of time -- If you're planning on taking a road trip, make sure that you do all of your booking online because you may find that most of the times, you will be paying full prices for a hotel if you just walk up to a desk during the night hours. Most hotels will know you're desperate for a room and will charge you for that room at full price. Websites like hotels.com and expedia.com will help you save a few extra bucks when you book that hotel. Try and figure out where you'll be stopping so that you won't be stopping at a hotel at three in the afternoon.

Find the free breakfast -- When you're booking that hotel online, make sure that you look out for the free breakfast. A lot of hotels will offer complimentary breakfast foods in the morning. If you can book a hotel that offers this, this will save you a few bucks depending on how many people are travelling with you. Most places do offer hot meals and it's usually nothing bad like a bagel and a cup of orange juice. If you find yourself going to a place like this, you may want to consider other places.

Avoid the gas snacks -- If you're like me, you probably love to load up on the chips and slim jims in the gas station. This is where the money starts going down the drain. You'll want to buy all of your snacks and sodas before you go on that trip to save extra money. Let's do the math really quick. Let's suppose you want to buy one soda at the gas station. This is going to cost you around $1.50. If you purchase an eight pack at your local market, you're only going to pay about $4 a pack, which comes down to about $.50 a soda. Multiply that number by four family members and you're saving four bucks. Do you see how quick that adds up?

Saving money on the road isn't that hard at all; just make sure you don't let the high gas prices ruin all of your family fun. You have to remember that you live once and if you can afford that trip, then go out and take it. Sooner or later, your kids are going to be grown up and they won't even want to hang out with you anymore.<bio>Save on gas with a gas card and also find more of Tom's work at FINDgascards.</bio>

Vacations are usually something most people save up for and plan carefully. The goal is to have a memorable, fun vacation and, oftentimes, to see and do as much as you can fit in. Vacations are not a time to waste money on unnecessary service or items, but rather a time to research your trip and plan to save as much money as you can. If this sounds like your approach to vacationing, you may want to consider a road trip and even better, RV vacation. Road trips are one of the best vacations in which saving money is easier, and RVs offer the most convenient transportation choice for travel on road trips. Here are a few simple steps to make your RV holiday one of the most memorable, fun and cheapest vacations you have taken.

RVs come in a variety of sizes you can purchase, and which one you should choose depends on the number of people traveling and the types of accommodations you desire. One of the benefits of an RV is that you will save money on lodging during ever trip. You will also be able to take more personal items from home when traveling in an RV as compared to traveling in your car.

If you are traveling with children, you will probably face the challenge of keeping them entertained during the trip. RVs offer much more room than a car allowing children to play, spread their wings and roam around a little if they get bored. Some RVs include DVD players so the kids can watch movies or even possibly hook up their video games to the television.

Investing in an RV for your vacationing needs will help cut the cost of lodging, which will provide you extra money for other things you come across during your trip. Basically, you can take your family with you on your new "home on wheels" whether you want to go on a quick mountain getaway or a trip to the beach.

With a little research on vacation in an RV, you will find that there are many scenic places you and your family can experience along the way to your ultimate destination. For example, a family of four can go camping for a week at a national park or state forest. Campground fees, which are usually charged per night, camping gear and miscellaneous travel expenses will more than likely keep you under a $1,000 budget. You can bond with you family enjoying the beautiful outdoors during the day and enjoy the amenities of the RV at night.

Yellowstone National Park is popular vacation spot for RVing families, and you will find that it has plenty of entertainment and activities for your family. There are may other campgrounds and RV parks available, though. You will find them all throughout Canada and the United States, all offering ideal vacations for your family. A little research and planning will have you on your way to an unforgettable RV vacation with your family! <bio>Focusing on latest developments in Spain, Jack Blacksmith pens principally for http://www.alicante-spain.com .
If you're going on a trip and driving your vehicle, keep in mind there are some preliminary things that should be done, especially if you're driving several hundreds of miles. This will help you to escape the problems that arise if you don't get your vehicle checked out beforehand.

Take your vehicle to your mechanic to find out what may need to be done. You should start this at least a month to two months prior to your trip. This is when any major repairs should be taken care of. Having this done a month or two before time gives you a chance to correct any additional issues related to the repair(s).

Make sure your tires are inflated properly and that they have enough pressure. Your tires can blow out while you're driving if they don't have enough pressure in them. Checking the tire treads is important. This is another way your tires can experience a blowout.

The way to check this is to put a penny between the tire's grooves. On the penny, the head of Abraham Lincoln should be pointing downward. If the space above Lincoln's head is visible or you can see the words "In God We Trust", new tires are needed. Your spare tire should be inflated and the tools should be available in the event you'll need to use it.

The vehicle's manual should be in the glove compartment. You will need that in the event the vehicle experiences trouble on the road. If you don't have one, check the manufacturer's website to see if they have one in PDF format. With technology as it is, it wouldn't be surprising if they did. At least you wouldn't have to wait weeks to get a replacement.

Any minor maintenance such as oil changes can be done a week prior to your trip. You should also check your tires again for pressure and tread efficiency. If there are any abnormalities that weren't there before, take it to your mechanic for a look.

You should have a clean air filter in your vehicles. If it's not clean, it will affect your vehicle's mileage and suck up gas. This means you will have to stop for gas more often for your vehicle. You will definitely need to change the filter if it's been in the vehicle over 12,000 miles.

Remove any items from your vehicle that you won't need for the trip. This will give more room to the items that you will need or are planning to take. You should have a clean vehicle before you leave. Take an hour or two to clean and vacuum the inside.

Have a map or if you have a newer vehicle, consider getting a GPS (Global Positioning System). This will help you get to your destination without getting lost. It would be advantageous for you to fill up the tank before you leave. When you get on the road, nine times out of ten, you will pay more for gas outside of your area.

Make sure that you have packed everything you need for your trip. More importantly, make sure you have your toiletries and prescribed medicines. Check through your suitcases and garment bags. It's not good to overload your vehicle with a lot of stuff.

Doing all these things will help you have an enjoyable trip. <bio>Find the best deal on the auto insurance coverage you need.
In your last big road trip with your kids, how many times did you hear "are we there yet?" and do you remember just how frustrating is it? Perhaps you don't remember that last big trip because you're trying desperately to avoid one, knowing your kids will distract you the whole way. Fortunately, with a little planning ahead, you can have the road trip you've always longed for -- children and all. How can you do this? Think about getting the latest in automobile video systems. Along with GPS systems and CD changers, car video systems have revolutionized the driving scene. Nowadays, the newer upscale vehicles come complete with all of these gadgets but you can have one installed in the vehicle you currently own. It's amazing how something like a car video system can make the difference between rowdy passengers and a smooth ride with your kids in the back, enjoying a good movie.

Getting an automobile video system in your car is easier than you think. Look for an upper-end mini-van or other vehicle that has an option of installing a video system. If not, automobile companies often install these systems for you upon request. Why suffer through hours of annoying children's chatter when you can rely on new age technology and keep everyone in your car happy at the same time. With technology on our sides, we can make virtually anything a reality. So if that long summer vacation is looming ahead and it involves a grueling road trip, it will be a wise move to plan ahead and install one of the contemporary car video systems on the market today.

I was in the market for a mini-van a few years ago and the thought of having an automobile video system crossed my mind. I was buying the vehicle to house my big family for long and short car trips, and a video system seemed like a great idea. To my surprise, the addition of a video system cost only about two thousand dollars -- much less than I thought it was going to be. I checked through the various options until I found one I liked and had it installed in my vehicle. While two thousand dollars sounds expensive, I thought it would be much worse than that. My video system included both the screen and the DVD player -- a feature that is standard on almost all systems.

I'm so thankful I made the decision I did to get a car video system. Now I don't have any of the rowdiness or screaming of little children coming from the back of my vehicle. Their little faces are glued to the DVD screen watching their favorite Disney flick and I get to focus on getting us to our destination in peace. If you feel like this is an option for you, go online and search for car video systems. Check out their options and pricing. See if it's possible to install in your kind of vehicle. <bio>Read more from Joe Goertz at: http://www.mycar-magazine.com </bio>

Whatever your personality is, there are some perks and perhaps some aversions to disaster to planning a trip ahead of time.

Vehicle Maintenance

Breaking down alongside the road may put a damper on the spontaneity of any spur of the moment trip. So before you hop into that car, think about whether or not your car is up-to-date on maintenance. If you are handy with a wrench then you can check the tires, brakes, oil and windshield wiper fluid yourself.
