So, you are looking for information on resumes, which probably means you are on a job hunt. Resumes, of course, are an indispensable tool when you are entering, or re-entering the job force.

The first rule of thumb when creating resumes is to make sure they are professional and honest, as most employers will verify any information you have put down, and you will be much better off, say, having less education or experience than you might like to admit, than being found out as a liar. There is no way you will get the job then.

If you are an experienced with creating resumes, than you will need less assistance than someone who is new to the whole practice. But, someone who is lacking experience in creating and formatting resumes should not fear, because there is plenty of help to be found, and several different sources for that help.

If you are a graduate of a college or university they will surely have a Student Services office with a placement staff ready and willing to assist in crafting resumes for their graduates.

If you are more the do-it-yourself type, then log right on to the Internet and choose from hundreds, possibly even thousands, of sites, dedicated to helping those who are looking to create winning resumes. You will find help in formatting your resume, and to make it even easier for you, there are an abundance of sites which offer templates for many different styles of resumes.

You can find templates for entry-level resumes, resumes for teachers, those in the legal field, the medical field, those interested in technical careers, those with accounting degrees to those with degrees in the secretarial sciences. There are templates and formats for all sorts of resumes.

Another option for those of you hoping to find help with resumes, is your local library or bookstore. Ask to be directed to the Career section and browse the many books you will find offering basic help, to those with much more advanced assistance in creating resumes.

There are even businesses whose main purpose is to assist those who are job-hunting with creating resumes. You will have to pay for this service, fees will vary so be sure to check around, but you can be guaranteed you will end up with one of the finest resumes to hit your prospective employers' desk. This may be a good option for someone with little time and the funds to utilize this service.

That will be one less thing for you to worry about, and you can focus on perhaps mock-interviewing or brushing up on your interpersonal skills. It is also highly advisable to do some research on the company you are interested in. If you are able to work some tidbits of knowledge in it will definitely impress the employer and let him or her know how serious you are about their specific company. This may very well work in your favor.

Well, know that you are well-versed on the many different options you have to create resumes that will get attention, all that is left for you to do is choose which one you think is going to work best for you, and go for it! The more practice you get at creating resumes, the more natural it will feel to you and before you know it, you'll be a pro! <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
When you are looking for a job, you will want to contact as many potential employers as possible. This is why many people use a resume distribution service. A resume distribution service is a perfect way to get your resume into the hands of as many employers as possible.

There are many different types of a resume distribution service that one can use. There are online services as well as those that distribute resumes by mail. Many people feel that the time that they save in using a resume distribution service is well spent as it saves them countless amount of time in perusing ads and addressing envelopes.

A resume distribution service can work in many different ways. One way is a place that prints the resumes for you and addresses them to the proper employers who are looking for an employee such as yourself. Many executives use this sort of service as they contact not only local employers, but those all over the country. A resume distribution service is the best way to discover employment opportunities in other states and even in different countries.

Many of the companies that offer a resume distribution service also offer a resume preparation service. In this case, the employee really has to do nothing but provide basic information to the company and they will build their resume and distribute the document for them. They will even add a cover letter. It is a very effective way to get your resume to as many people as possible.

Another type of resume distribution service is an online service. An online service can operate in many different ways. One type of resume distribution service that operates online is those on certain employment websites. This is where you post your resume and the website distributes across the internet for all employees to see. This is the most commonly used resume distribution service for people who want a local job and can be quite effective.

Other online services not only offer a resume distribution service but also resume preparations. Professional people often use such a service to get their resumes built and sent out as quickly as possible. Sending a resume via the internet is much quicker than regular mail, although some people believe that resumes that arrive by mail or facsimile get more attention than those that arrive by e-mail or over the internet. There are pros and cons to both types of resume distribution services.

A resume distribution service that offers mailed resumes will take a longer time to get the resumes to the employer. A person can lose up to a week in getting a resume mailed to an employer as opposed to having it faxed or e-mailed. On the plus side, resumes received by mail tend to get more attention than those that are received by e-mail and fax. Oftentimes, fax machines run out of paper and some computers are unable to open certain e-mail files.

A resume distribution service that offers e-mail distribution can get your resume to the potential employer within a matter of minutes and also tends to be less costly. Unfortunately, even in this day and age, many employers still only accept resumes sent to post office boxes or to their place of business via mail.

Another popular way that a resume distribution service works is by sending resume via facsimile. Many employers actually prefer this method. A resume sent by facsimile has the best of both worlds. It is a tangible document and is delivered very quickly to the employer. There are many resume distribution services that offer to fax resumes to such employers who prefer faxed resumes.

The type of resume distribution service that you use depends upon many different things How fast you wish the resume to get into the hands of the employer, for one. Another can be how the employer wishes to receive resumes. Most of the resume distribution services will offer a variety of services and distribute resumes by e-mail, facsimile and e-mail. While the trend is for the resume distribution service to send resumes via e-mail, there is still a lot of calling for those services that will fax resumes or even sent them in envelopes through the mail. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
Resumes and cover letters play a very important role in the lives of many applicants.

But some applicants might be confused about it. They would ask about its differences. Well, both are giving information to the employer. A resume can be sent with or without a cover letter. However, cover letters should never be sent to an employer without a resume.

Cover letters always accompany resumes. A cover letter contains the summary of the credentials of a potential job seeker. A resume contains the detailed information about the applicant.

Some companies may either prefer just the resumes. However, many companies are asking for a resume along with a cover letter. They believe that lost time will be minimized by reading the cover letters instead of browsing the entire resume.

Besides the slight difference of a cover letter from a resume, both follow the key factors to help an applicant standout from other applicants within a very tight competition. Rest assured that you will be successful in getting interviews.

1.The key element of both resumes and cover letter is to give information. Make sure that it responds to what an employer needs from their applicants. Review the advertisement. It will help you better on what you are going to write. Select your best accomplishments that will directly match to the qualifications needed. It will increase your chance of getting an interview.

2.The employer should be interested in hiring you. Your potential as a professional must be seen. It is important that you will become an asset to the company. Focus on the things that you can offer instead of what you can gain from your employer.

3.Never waste the time of your potential employer by submitting lengthy resumes and cover letters. Always make it direct to the point. The employer should immediately recognize you as their best candidate. Avoid writing a chronological resume. Your experiences and accomplishments related to the job you are applying for must be put on top. This will also be the content of your cover letter.

4.It should both market your abilities and skills. Your resume must never appear as listings of your previous work experiences. Extract the abilities and skills that will be most applicable to the job you are applying for.

5.Avoid any mistakes. Check your grammar, punctuation, word usage, and spelling. This is a very critical factor. It can give a bad impression about your personality. Your employer can entirely be frustrated if he will find any error on your resume and cover letter. Don't be surprised if you are denied for an interview.

6.Always use a good writing format. Resumes and cover letters should be well-written, simple, and creative. These are not just pieces of papers. Both resumes and cover letters allow your employer to give his first impression on your talents, skills, and professional standards.

7.Never forget to include your contact information. If possible maintain a close contact with your employer.

8.Make sure that your resumes and cover letters have the same type of quality papers and printed using the same type of printer or ink.

Never say that you will just express yourself during the interview. Remember, resumes and cover letters decides your destiny. Badly written resumes and cover letters might decrease or entirely deny you from getting an interview. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects. Tailor your objective statement, summary, and experience points to meet the job that you need.

3. Print off your resumes, being sure to have multiple copies. Try using sticky notes to keep track of what resume you want to go where.

4. Write your cover letters. Use keywords from the job descriptions (just like in the resume). Demonstrate your familiarity with the companies.

5. Attach the appropriate resume to the appropriate cover letters.

6. Place your resumes and cover letters in a folder. Two business days after you have handed your resume in, call the company back to stress how interested you are in the job.

Other things you can do while you are looking for a job:

• You can post your resume to online resume banks. • You can submit your resume to companies electronically. o If you submit electronic resumes, make sure your resume is formatted in such a way that it will transfer easily. o Remember to be just as professional over email: no emoticons or internet abbreviations please! • You can fill in online applications for jobs. • You can apply to temp agencies for work. • You can take a job that might not be ideal for the interim.

Where should I look for a job?

There are many places to look for a job. Try your local newspaper, and online job banks. If you have a job that you would really like to do, ask at the company to see what positions they have available. Remember, it doesn't hurt to drop off a resume even if you are told there are no openings. Oftentimes your resume will be filed, and perhaps at a later date they will call you.

After the Resume Stage

After you have given out all of your resumes and made some follow-up phone calls, you are bound to have an interview. After the interview, remember that a follow-up is also very important.

If you don't have any phone calls for interviews, consider the reasons.
A resume is really a composition that needs to be a masterpiece if you expect to get the jobs that you want. One could compare it to a musical composition in that it will change throughout your life in tone, and content, and also that it is based on the music (or in this case sample resumes) that have influenced and shaped that way you view life and music (or resumes).

Most of the learning that we do in this life is by way of imitation. We learn to walk faster if we have older children walking around us. We learn to play basketball better if we are playing with people that possess more skills than us. We learn by imitation and that is because it takes a very special person to have the ability to form new thoughts and ideas about something and in general it takes too long. This is why there are things like a sample resume that help us to find the basic form, structure, and objective which we will use to compose our own.

The analogy breaks down because resumes are not expected to be original in form, content, or organization of the information contained therein. You are expected to be able to give the potential employer a quick, concise, but very accurate representation of who you are. So it is not the information that you get help with in a sample resume but rather it is the form that is to be similar.

So where do you find a sample resume? Well lots of people find them online and there are certainly quality examples to be found there. The problem with finding them on the internet is that there are so many and a large majority lack the quality that is necessary to avoid being weeded out of an application pool. Let me suggest an alternative source, and that is anyone that you may know that is an employer with experience in hiring employees. This may be a family member, or a friend, or a former employer, it doesn't matter as long as you trust their judgment and skill in this area. What you do is you ask them for copies of resumes that they will have in their files (with names appropriately removed, of course) that they feel did a good job in the sense that they have good information in a logical and easy to read format.

A sample resume gained in this way will be invaluable as you craft the document that composes your life story including your ambition and portfolio of skills. <bio>Abrahem Mittell started resume writing while in college. While earning extra cash he was also becoming an expert in the particulars and wrote many a sample resume.
Perhaps you've been thinking a video resume would give you an edge. It would show you off in your best light. It would show you're tech savvy and current. After all, you're a dynamic, attractive person who presents well in-person. A video resume should give you the edge over people just sending in paper or Internet resumes. Webcams are cheap, you look good, so why not get that video on Jobster, CareerBuilder and Vault?

Well it looks like if you want to, you should do it quick. Video resumes are under fire. It could be a waste of time.

Yes, a video shows your great posture, sharp haircut and professional wardrobe, but unfortunately it also shows your race, age, sex and disabilities. Employment attorneys appear to be telling employers to give it the nix. (Of course for legal advice, consult an attorney.)

Take a look at one of our favorite websites, Overlawyered (www.overlawyered.com). According to this site, attorneys think it gives a corporation too much exposure, which is lawyer-eze for not a good idea. They're saying not to accept these video resumes.

Overlawyered quotes attorney Dennis Brown from the San Jose, California office of Littler Mendelson which recently gave a seminar advising employers about the dangers of video resum=E9s. Brown said, "Just don't even deal with them [video resumes] =85My advice to my clients who have asked me about video resumes -- and I have had a lot of clients ask lately -- is do not accept, do not review video resumes." Other attorneys are also quoted as being "deadset" against the idea.

Employers are cautioned against the risk of this sort of "unnecessary knowledge" in terms of discrimination. There are also comments on this website from the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Not everyone has access to the necessary equipment, nor the skills to use it.

Of course we're all wondering about this Internet thing and jobs. It 's common sense to assume that employers and recruiters check out candidates on the Internet. This gives new meaning to the old adage, "Never put anything in black and white you wouldn't want the whole world to see." There's the cache, which seems to give eternal life to things on the Internet.

Prudent people don't put anything on blogs they wouldn't say in person. This is just etiquette, emotional intelligence and best practices.

Emotional intelligence is about self-awareness and this includes predicting what effect your words and action may have=97for you and for others.

So, unless the job you're applying for requires video skills (graphic artist, for instance), etc., it looks like making a video will be a waste of time=97sooner or later. <bio>Susan Dunn, http://www.susandunn.cc Career and personal coaching.
Are you interested in applying for a new job? If so, you have probably begun to get your resume together. But guess what? Old school paper resumes are no longer all the rage. Instead, more and more people are looking into what video resumes have to offer. No, these are not the perfect solution for every job applicant, but you will definitely want to look into what they have to offer. As you can imagine, a video resume may be able to put you above and beyond the other applicants. But of course, this is only the case if you do a good job.

When it comes to a video resume there is a lot that you need to keep in mind. First off, you must make for absolute sure that the quality is as good as possible. If you send a low quality video resume you are not going to appeal to many hiring managers. But if you send a video resume that makes you look good and is professional, you will definitely be onto something.

In addition to quality, you want to make sure that you do not get too carried away with your video resume. Remember, you are going to have the ability to say whatever you want; just like with a paper resume. But just because you can say whatever you want does not mean that you should go off the deep end. Instead, stick to everything that you would say in a paper resume. This includes information on your past jobs, education, and special skills.

Remember, when you send a video resume the recipient is going to be able to see you. This means that you will want to look your best. Not only should you dress like you are going to a job interview, but also make sure that the background is not too intrusive. If possible, shoot your video resume up against a plain white background. This will help the viewer to concentrate on you, and not everything else.

The main benefit of a video resume is that you can really show what your personality is all about. This is very important to some hiring managers, and if you can put on a good show, you are definitely going to have a chance at the job. But remember, even though you want to do your best, you also want to act like yourself. In other words, be genuine instead of trying to convey somebody you are not.

Video resumes are becoming very popular. If you are thinking about using this method of securing a job you are not alone. Just make sure that your video resume is of high quality, that you dress appropriately, and that you act genuinely.

Copyright Paul Majestyck <bio>Paul Majestyck is global entrepreneur and online author.
One of the most popular ways to get a resume to a prospective employer is to send it by facsimile. Resume faxing is still the most efficient way to send your resume. Despite the advent of many employers who are using e-mail, many smaller companies still prefer to get a resume via facsimile. There are many different ways to accomplish resume faxing. You can even do it though your computer if you set up the capabilities.

Certain companies offer resume faxing for a small fee. You can bring your resume to the company with the different names of the companies to where you wish to fax the resume and they will send the resumes by fax to the companies of your choice.

Resume faxing has advantages. The employer gets a tangible document immediately. When a file is sent through e-mail, many computers cannot open the file. Because there are so many different word processing programs and different computer types, not all files can be opened by e-mail. This is one of the reasons why many employers and potential employees prefer resume faxing.

Sending a resume through the mail used to be the only way to get your resume to the prospective employer. With the advent of the fax machine, things changed and most companies found that the fax machines saved them countless time and money. Instead of sending everything by mail and waiting days for responses, everything could be done by fax. It was not long before employers began to see the advantage of asking prospective employees to fax their resumes to their office rather than wait for them to come in the mail.

With the advent of the internet, many people began submitting resumes online. This was useful, but many employers were unable to open certain files and were also inundated with ads and solicitations from employment agencies. This is one reason why many employees do not like to use e-mail as a way to receive resumes.

If you look in any newspaper for employment ads, you will see that most employees prefer to faxing resumes. Fax numbers are private and the potential employee cannot show up at the door of the office demanding a job. In addition, the employer is able to collect resumes much quicker than if they asked for them to be mailed to a post office box. This enables the employer to make a hiring decision much easier.

If you do not have fax capabilities on your computer, you can either opt to purchase a fax machine for your home. Fax machines are relatively inexpensive and are a great way to send documents in a secure manner. You can also go to a place such as Kinkos where they will fax your resume to the employer for a fee. There are many options when it comes to resume faxing.

Resume faxing has been popular since the late 1980s when fax machines first started making an appearance in offices. In the past 20 years, fax machines have improved quite significantly and are much less expensive. Many people have fax machines in their homes. You do not need to have a separate phone line to have a fax machine. You can use your own phone line for resume faxing.

If you are thinking about applying for a new job, update your resume as soon as possible. Make sure that you have all of your current information included in your new resume as well as your current address and telephone number. If you have an e-mail address, include that on your resume. You should really update your resume every six months or so, even if you are not looking for a job, just so you can update your skills.

Once you have updated your resume, you can peruse the want ads to discover potential employers; You can find job listings in the newspaper and on the internet. Even on the internet, many employers prefer resume faxing.

Once you have discovered several job opportunities that appeal to you, purchase an inexpensive fax machine and hook it up to your phone line in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Once you have done this, you are ready to begin resume faxing. Chances are that you will receive better response by faxing resumes than you will by searching for jobs online. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
If you are unsure about how to prepare your resume, you may check out a resume writing sample. You can easily find a resume writing sample online or in many different books. It is not difficult to find a resume writing sample, particularly online. No matter what type of profession you are seeking, there is a resume writing sample that can assist you in creating your own resume.

Creating a resume is not difficult. There are many different resume software programs designed for just this purpose. With many of them, you simply need to fill in different answers regarding your employment history, skills, accomplishments, knowledge and education and they will actually provide you with several different samples of resumes from which you can choose. If you are looking for a professional position, you should choose a program that specializes in creating professional resumes. Professional resumes differ from ordinary resumes and usually are a bit longer than the average resume. If you are creating a professional resume, such as one for an attorney, you will want to take a look at a resume writing sample for a professional resume for an attorney. You will want to make sure that you include all of the information that you need in your resume and do not shortchange yourself when it comes to speaking of your accomplishments, knowledge and skills.

If you have never before prepared a resume, a resume writing sample is an ideal way to find out just exactly what you need to include in your resume. One thing you will definitely want to make sure that you include in your resume is your contact information, which should be prominent at the top of the page. Another important aspect of the resume is the objective, which is the position which you hope to gain by submitting the resume.

One of the most important mistakes people make when creating their resume is not putting down all of their knowledge and skills. By seeking a resume writing sample, you can see which types of skills and knowledge are often portrayed on resumes. In most cases, they are highlighted in bullet points. This makes it much easier for the potential employer to review your knowledge and skills. Experience is the one thing that employers look for when seeking an employee. It is even more important than education. You do not want to shortchange yourself by under rating your experience, so take a look at a resume writing sample that pertains to your type of skills so you can see what is important to include in your own resume.

When it comes to education, many people put down too little or too much. If you have a post degree, for example, you should be certain to put the name of the university and college where you earned your degree as well as the degree that you earned. You also need to put down the name of he university or college where you earned your undergraduate degree as well as the degree which you earned and any honors. Many people who have a post graduate degree to not feel that it is necessary to put down high school information on their resume. It is pretty much understood that if you earned an MBA you most likely graduated high school. Many people still put their grammar school on their resume. This is totally unnecessary. You do not need to go back to the beginning of your life with your resume, only to those points where your career began.

If you took some time off for a family or other reason, and prior to that time you had worked in an area where the skills you learned can be used for the job you are now applying, you can include this information at the end of your resume as additional information. This is also the place where you will want to put down if you speak another language that can also be beneficial for your new job.

By taking a look at a resume writing sample, you can actually learn quite a bit about building your own resume. You simply have to replace the skills, education and knowledge with your own. It is an easy way to create an effective resume. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects. Seeking employment online requires that you have internet connection and of course, your ever-dependable PC.

May you be a worker or a job seeker, using the PC should be done in such a way that body postures are not compromised. This may be difficult to practice all the time, but the many benefits of using the PC properly are worth the little sacrifice.

According to ergonomists, people who do a lot of "static work" like sitting in front of the PC to finish tasks tend to develop repetitive stress injuries (RSIs) over a period of time. It is therefore a must to take precautionary measures and follow some healthy tips. (to be concluded)

This is the conclusion to my previous post on PC use. Without further a do, here are some healthy tips for PC users to reduce or prevent stress injuries:

1. Exercise once in a while. Stand up, walk around and stretch your muscles periodically to relax your body and relieve stress.

2. Follow a good working posture. Do this all the time to prevent injuries.

3. Adjust your position and that of the monitor. Follow the correct viewing distance between the eye and monitor which is in the range of 20-40 inches (50-100 cm).

4. Make sure the keyboard is in a comfortable position. Too high or too low may damage your wrist, arm and shoulder postures.

While resumes and cover letters go together, resumes are used more often in looking for jobs in the Internet through online job sites and other related resources. These job search tools allow job seekers to send resumes directly and indirectly to their prospective employers. Most of the times, it is only a matter of preparing a good resume that spells success in online job search.

Resume writing is a serious task in itself, especially if you are finding employment on the web. It would be helpful to job seekers to know how resumes are scanned or screened by the employers as well as the use of an appropriate format to make a resume accessible and readable.

Usually, employers store resumes in a database. The human resource personnel assigned to screen resumes uses keywords in accessing the database. For instance, if the company needs a marketing officer for its office in California, he would use keywords like sales, marketing and California. From there he should get a dozen or so resumes containing those keywords provided.

Preparing your resume for online submission is easy if you know the format to use. Resume experts say it should be the ASCII format. It is a type of data that is understood by most computers. Converting your resume to this format will ensure that your resume is accessible and readable by different systems.

Online Job Employments are exceptional idea in Human Resources, that was formed mostly by Recruiters to better enhance the hiring process for both employers and applicants. Not many are convinced that the biggest challenges is finding the appropriate talent to satisfy the company's needs like time, resources restrictions, battle for skilled workers, just to name a few. In spite of this, companies are looking for ways to reduce the time and costs of business meeting with and interviewing mutually the recently qualified and knowledgeable aspirants to satisfy the business needs.
Everyone gets frustrated at their jobs at some point. This doesn't necessarily mean that you need to find a new job. Sometimes, however, people need a change, and they don't know when to move. Here are some clues to help you discover if you should stay at your current job or move to another one.

Career Change v. Job Change

Changing a career is a much different choice than changing a job. Changing jobs might mean that instead of being a corporate accountant for one specific firm, you move to a new position at an accountancy firm. The particulars of your job change: you have a new location, new coworkers, a varied client list. The essence of your job stays the same.

When it's time for a new job

If you really love what you do at work, but you think that your boss is a jerk or you think that you are being underpaid, then you should consider changing jobs. You could stay in the same field that you are in, but find a much better environment in which to do that work. If the salary is the major issue, you might not even need to change jobs. Research what the typical wage is for your position, and then speak to your boss. Asking for a raise can be daunting, but it can also be worth it in the long run if it is properly done. Leaving a job because the money is bad is not a reason to go, unless you have been denied a raise, or unless you find a new, higher-paying position elsewhere that you think you would like.

When it's time for a new career

If you are a high school teacher, and have been a high school teacher for twenty years, you might be thinking to yourself, "But what else am I qualified for?" If you are only staying in the position that you currently in because it is easier than leaving, or because you don't know what else you would do, it's time for some career counseling. You can often get career counseling services from local schools and universities. There are also independent firms. For a small price, you walk away with a more in-depth knowledge of your personality and what might suit you.

Fear is often a motivating factor in staying in a job. If you don't like your job, you are doing a disservice to yourself and to others by staying in it. You won't be doing the best possible work, you will be less pleasant to work with or for, and as such you make it more difficult for yourself to be there. One way to mitigate the fear that you might feel about leaving your current job is by staying at your current position until you are assured a new job. Don't quit your job first without having your new job lined up. You can do career counseling and job searching while you are still working.

You've decided to leave, now what?

Don't burn any bridges when you leave. Politely explain to your supervisor why you have to leave (higher wages, better location, new experiences to widen your horizons). Always ask for a reference when you leave. You can get a letter of reference, and get permission to put your last supervisor on your resume as your boss.

If you are looking for a new job, you will want a new resume.
Your resume is extremely important. Think about it. In the span of a few pages, you need to convey that YOU are worthy of at least being considered for that job vacancy. It really doesn't matter if you are applying for a manager job or an executive position, what's important is that the resume contents and resume layout fit the position at hand. Sadly, many ruin their chances at job success because they cannot format their resumes properly. Don't be one of them. Follow our resume tips and you'll get the chance you deserve.

Resume Tips to Help you Get that Job Interview Call

Before you go on your hunt for great job interview tips, you should first focus on writing a great resume. After all, the job interview will come IF your resume says you deserve it.

Resume Tip No. 1 - Different resume types require different resume formats.

Your resume is really your 'first impression' and just like any real, one-on-one interview, it's important that your resume conveys the right 'image'. Whether it's a executive resume or one for a mid-level position, it's best present it with a cover letter outlining the highlights of your career. For the succeeding pages, it's best to list your work experience in reverse chronological order (i.e., most recent first). For new graduates, it's best to start your resume with your educational attainment and any related 'on-the-job' training or seminars even if you are currently employed.

Apart from the above, you can't go wrong with using a clear, easy-to-read font like Times New Roman 10 pt or 12 pt. Also, assuming you send in your resume via email, use general Word processing software like Microsoft Word. Don't use the latest version as it may not yet be used by those handling recruitments, rending your resume un-openable and thus, useless.

Resume Tip No. 2 - Include a no B.S. executive summary.

Job recruiters get really annoyed when they're fed with Executive Summaries that are VAGUE. The Executive Summary must answer the question on why you are the best candidate for the job. The best resume layout for this would be to enumerate your skills in a bulleted list. Each skill should be written so that it clearly shows how that skill makes you a perfect fit for the job vacancy in particular, and the company in general.

Resume Tip No. 3 - Do NOT lie.

Who doesn't embellish his resume to get that job interview? That's true... but don't exaggerate to the point of lying either. For instance, you know that figures are great in resumes, but don't say "Managed a $50 million dollar publishing project..." if it you cannot back up that figure. Don't forget that job recruiters, especially for managerial and executive positions, really do check up with previous employers.

Resume Tip No. 4 - What about online resumes?

A great resume tip that doesn't cost anything at all is to view sample online resumes! There's a lot of information out there for different types of resumes with samples to boot so do give them a try. Apart from free samples, there are also ready-to-use online resume templates you can purchase where all you need to do is just 'fill out the blanks'. If you opt for this, just ensure that the template really fits your resume needs.

Resume Tip No. 5 - Hire a professional resume writer.

When all else fails, or if you don't have the time, or the job is simply too important that you want to go in with your BEST chance at landing a job interview, then by all means, get the services of a professional resume writer. Not everybody is blessed with having that special way with words so a professional CV writer can definitely help you.
As we all know, some of the most common New Year's Resolutions are to lose weight, to stop smoking, to save money, and so on. Instead of resolving to do things that can cause you stress, this new year, why not resolve to be happy?

Find out what makes you happy

Take a few minutes to write down the things that make you happy. Is it your family? Your job? Taking time to golf, play piano, watch movies, or other leisure activities? Just focusing on what makes you happy could help you realize: are you not giving yourself enough time to be happy? Sometimes this relates directly to the amount of sleep that you get.

Find out what makes you unhappy

Are there things in your life that make you unhappy? Your boss? Your bills? There are any number of things in life that can make you stressed, angry, sad, or otherwise unhappy. Take a moment to write down things in your life that make you unhappy.

Pick a target

Look at the things in your life that make you unhappy. Choose one of them and resolve to fix that situation. If dealing with your in-laws makes you unhappy, let your spouse know that you won't answer the phone when they call. Simply minimizing your interactions with things that stress you out is one way to solve things.

Another way to target things that makes you unhappy is to deal with the root cause. If you can't stand the hour commute to work, then maybe it's time to a) move closer to work, or b) get a new job. Don't be afraid to try something big this year. Getting a new job might sound daunting, but it can improve all aspects of your life if you get a job that you like.

Go Big

Say that your job causes you a lot of stress. This could be because you are not well suited to your job, because of disagreements with coworkers, or because you feel that there are limited opportunities for advancement. Imagine how your life could be with a new job. You could make more money. When you come home from work, you would not take out your anger and stress on your family and friends. You might enjoy doing your job for once, which would make it more of a pleasure and less of a chore. These payoffs show that choosing to make a big change in life can be the way to go. Yes, finding a new job, or a new home, or a new boyfriend can all seem like terrible ordeals, but once they are over you will be in a better position. Instead of staying in a rut that gets you down constantly, this year could be your year to get out of that rut and spread your wings to fly.

The sentiment is summed up best by Empire Records: "I do not regret the things I have done, but those I did not do." Go out and make this year your best ever. <bio>If you are going to change your job to make this your best New Year ever, you will want to start by having a great resume.
There are at least six resume distribution services that have captured the market and millions of people have used them to send targeted resume 'blasts' to recruiters and employers. People like these services because they are relatively cheap and fast - it makes us feel good to know we sent our resume to thousands of targets in 24 hours.

But, what did we accomplish?

That depends on three factors:

1. Target Market

Blasting resumes to a specific category of recruiters will increase your chances of making a contact and getting a response from the recruiter. But, this won't be effective if your skill set is not in demand now. Recruiters are salespeople who live in the moment. They only focus on the job order at hand, and if your resume does not speak to them in the exact terms they are looking for it will be ignored.

Everyone has heard of the hidden job market - the fact that the majority of open jobs are never advertised. Some resume distribution services blast resumes to HR departments in companies that do direct hiring. HR managers may be a bit more responsive than recruiters, although they are inundated with resumes as well and don't have time to sift through the piles of resumes they receive. Again, timing is crucial. If the HR manager or their asistant is sensitized to your skill set at that moment, you may receive a response.

2. Demographics

Resume distribution services can submit your resume to any city, state, or any combination of three states simultaneously. Supply and demand dictates whether that area of the country has a relatively greater need for your skill set than another region. Obviously, if you are able to pick up and move anywhere on a moments notice for a new job, you have an advantage.

3. Keywords and Format

The resume you send to a distribution service must have targeted keywords. Remember, this is a mass mailing and their is no time to focus on individual wants and needs. You must select three main keywords that describe your skill set and lead with those. Create the same resume in a MS Word, .txt and .HTML format to maximize the amount of recruiters the resume is distributed to.

3. How Clean is that List?

All resume distribution services say that their list of recruiters and HR managers is an opt-in list. That means that all of the recruiting companies and businesses that are on their list 'subscribe' to their service. This does not mean that the same person who subscribed is the person who will receive your resume via email. So, because the undeliverable rate on most lists is about 20%, you are having your resume sent to a good number of strangers. For example, if your resume is sent to 1,000 recruiters about 200 of them are strangers to the service. If you avail yourself of a resume distribution service try to determine if the service cleans their list on a quarterly basis.

Resume distribution can be effective if the timing is right. In order to get a hit, the recruiter must be looking to fill a job that you qualify for when they receive your resume. If they receive it too early or too late in the process, you miss the boat.<bio>Perry Maisin is a business communicator with 25 years of experience in resume writing, business process documentation, and technical staffing.
We do it all the time. When we're ready for a job change we go online to search for a better job. You go to your favorite job board or employer's site, find a job that fits you perfectly, and submit your resume and nothing happens.

Just a typical online job hunting experience that we're all used to. You are now in the Bermuda Triangle of job hunting, sending your resume into the unknown digital zone that goes in and never comes back.

So, what can you do to improve your odds of receiving that next step of the employer contacting you for the job interview? First, it's important to understand what's happening on the employer's end. Employers nowadays will receive hundreds to thousands of resumes after posting a job in any given week. Their computers and networks are overwhelmed from the entourage of resumes that are pouring into their email and HR application management software.

Some employers have the technology that can handle all the resumes pouring in and those are the ones that you will get an auto-responder message stating that they have received your resume and will contact you if they want to schedule you for a job interview. Other employers don't, their Human Resources departments have been downsized or their budgets have been cut so much they can't even afford a computer.

Does that mean you shouldn't even bother applying for the job? Of course not. There are thousands of new jobs posted daily on job boards. To help increase your chances of success begin the "Job Application Tango." Here's how:

Step 1: Submit your resume properly

•Don't apply for jobs where you don't meet the specific requirements the employer is posting in the job. Usually, if an employer post a skill is required you can bet you need that skill to be considered for the job. Make sure you are fully qualified for the position.

•Follow the resume submission instructions perfectly. If an employer asks you to only apply online through the job board or attach your resume in word format then do so, don't copy and paste your resume in the body of the email.

Step 2: Network your way into the new job and company

•Find out if any of your friends work for the company you are applying to. You can do this by calling them or shooting them an e-mail.

•Check with your local business associations or professional organizations to see if they have a message board or forum where you post your questions.

•If you still come up empty handed, search for the names of people in the HR department on the company's website. Then try to Google them or scour the internet to find a way to contact them.

•After you've networked to someone that works for that company, send them an email explaining your desire to work there and ask them if they can forward your resume to the department hiring manager or to the HR department.

In today's tough economy and competition for jobs, it's hard to just get an interview. To make sure your resume doesn't get lost amongst the thousands of other job seeker resumes, practice the "job application tango." It takes a little more time and effort, but is sure to pay off eventually. <bio>Kryssa Lighthall is a writer for http://www.careersinhouston.com.Houston Jobs and Work at Home Jobs Online Business, http://www.work-at-home-magazine.com </bio>

An effective resume is a key tool when you are trying to land a job. However, most resumes fail to capture the attention of potential employers for very predictable, but definitely curable, reasons. These are listed below:

1. Lack of Focus -- An Unorganized Resume: Most resumes one comes across have a never-ending list of everything the person has done in his or her career. There are also endless lists of skills, personal characteristics and accomplishments, verbs, and unnecessary detail. What you need to do instead of making everything on your resume stand out as equally important, is to point out a dominant focus, a clear sense of purpose and direction. This will help you getting the exact job that you are looking for.

2. Too Much Detail - Not Written for a "Skimmer": Potential employers do not read resumes in detail at first. They just 'skim' it, usually taking perhaps only 15 to 30 seconds to see if it is worth reading in detail. When your reader is skimming, his or her eye will naturally start at the top center, and then quickly scan down the left side of the page. The left side of the page is where the battle for your reader's attention is fought. And, by trying to make everything 'stand out', you lose control over your reader's eye. Therefore, you should put the most important words, items, and information on that left side.

3. Fails to Ask the Two Fundamental Questions: The two most important questions in deciding what to emphasize in your resume are: 1) What does the employer want to see first? 2) What do you want the reader to see first? In answer to the first question, what most employers want to see first in a resume can vary. Most of them are looking for key factors like academic degrees, certification and licensing, job titles, or key skills related to the job. Others may look first for gaps in employment, school activities, recent training, or other factors. So keep these details handy when making your resume. Secondly, emphasize what you want your employer to see first. Make sure your prospective employer can find all of these 'firsts' without having to read in detail.

4. Not 'Tailored' for the Type of Position Being Sought: Even if your resume makes it clear what type of job you are applying for, most resumes do not emphasize in the body of the resume the factors that relate to that job title. While it is necessary to emphasize your technical knowledge and experience, you also need to emphasize those responsibilities and accomplishments in your career that would be of value in the job that you are seeking. A potential employer should be able to tell immediately what you are interested in and where your skills would yield the maximum productivity.

5. Unique Strengths Not Marked Out: No two people are alike. Each one of you has your unique strengths, a distinctive combination of experiences, an individual career path, or even specialized knowledge and expertise. Most of you do not emphasize what is unique about your background in a resume. But very often, this is what determines whether your resume will be thrown out or you will be asked in for an interview. Which is why, you should place these unique qualities prominently in your resume.

The most simple solutions to all these resume flaws lie in recognizing your strengths and weaknesses while understanding what a prospective employer is looking for. Only by doing that will you ensure that your resume is in the 'less than five percent' that are not immediately discarded.
to go too low.<bio>Jason Kay recommends you read resume service reviews before choosing a resume writing service.
It's certainly not difficult to understand why social media and social networking websites have exploded in popularity in recent years. They capitalize on the intrinsic human need to interact with and gain feedback from other people. Blogs, message boards and other online communities allow us to share ideas with people all over the world in real time and offer almost all the dynamics of human interaction. Millions of people have created profiles on social networking sites and uploaded images and film clips on social media sites. As more people gain broadband access to the internet, this trend is expected to continue with no end in sight. How do these sites create opportunities for people to find work? Here are but a few ways they accomplish this:

•Connections, Connections, Connections -- Whether you're looking for an entry-level job right out of college or a position in top management, the importance of having a connection to help you get noticed (and get an interview) cannot be overstated. Many people belong to several online networking communities, and making it known that you're looking for a new job allows you to tap into your extended network as well as the networks of others.

•Niche-Oriented Job Sites and Communities -- More and more job and message boards are appearing online that cater to a very narrow range of interests which enables job seekers to bypass huge, sprawling sites such as http://Monster.com where their résumés might be overlooked. For example, if you have very specialized skills like underwater welding or forensic accounting, chances are very good that there are job boards online where you can get noticed that cater to these fields.

•Recruiters and Web-Savvy HR Directors Use Them Too! -- Here's a very telling statistic on the relevance of social networking for job seekers: According to a 2006 study conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, recruiters use social networking sites 23 percent more than they did in 2006 to verify resumes, screen applicants and fill vacancies.

•Reputation Management -- Social media sites can be a boon or a bane. Since recruiters and HR directors are surfing social networking sites to gather information on prospective hires, job seekers need to be extra wary of unflattering images and information on their pages that could affect their chances of getting hired. Pictures of them engaging in illegal activity or posts they have made that denigrate former employers could come back to haunt them.

The Internet has significantly changed how people look for work and how prospective employers find qualified talent. Harnessing the power of social networking sites has become almost imperative for job hunters, but they need to be careful about how they might be perceived. Just like the community where you live, your connections will play a huge part in the speed and ease with which you can find a new position. However, just like an interview, you'll need to take extra care what kind of image you're projecting online.<bio>Jeff Tomlin has been an expert in producing sample resumes and cover letters that actually work for many years.
Written by Las Vegas Human Resources Outsourcing Professionals

There are many different methods you can use to recruit great employees. Here are four tips used by some of the most successful recruiters.

NETWORK - Relying on networking skills is a valuable tool for recruiters. When preparing a new search, think of everyone you know in the particular field. Write down every name you can think of, even if there seems to be no direct connection; there's a reason you thought of the name, so trust your instincts. Contact each person on the list and ask for referrals. Using the people you know and trust to build a network is a quick way to locate some promising candidates. When networking ask various questions, including how the person knows the potential candidate, how well they're acquainted with their recent work and if the person being recruited by other companies. You may also ask questions about the field itself, such as who else is hiring, what the competition may be paying and trends in the field. Gather as much information you can from the people you know.

START BROADLY AND THEN REVAMP YOUR SEARCH - When utilizing web based search engines or resume banks, always use Boolean rules. I find them to be effective in narrowing searches to locate candidates with specific skills and credentials. The general rules apply to every search. Start as general as possible with the largest net, and then whittle down the number of resumes by adding key words or phrases. Once you have a manageable number of resumes, begin reading them to locate possible candidates. When you are finished, rearrange the Boolean rules and keywords and run your search again. Why do this when basic logic dictates that your first search should have located every resume containing the keywords? The fact is, when you rearrange the order of the key words, you will find resumes that didn't come up in your initial search. You will see many duplicates, but you'll be surprised at the number of resumes that are new.

THE RESUME IS THE PREVIEW - Resumes offer important information; they give you a thumbnail sketch of a person. Let's assume you have resumes of potential candidates that fit your job description. Study the format of the resume. It should be concise, neat and flow, containing information that will give you an accurate picture of the candidate. Consider it a red flag if it is hard to follow or read, has grammatical or format errors or looks unprofessional. It doesn't necessarily mean that the person isn't a good candidate, but it should be a warning to you and considered when interviewing the candidate. As an example, the resume of a sales person that appears messy could look this way because the person is so busy closing huge deals, that he/she doesn't have time to polish every detail of his/her resume. Obviously, you want a great sales person, but this candidate may need some administrative assistance and grooming to be successful. You would only want to submit this candidate for a job in a company that could provide him/her with such assistance. Don't discount someone who appears too junior if there is a senior person in place that could mentor him/her. Ask questions during the interview to get a good feel for the candidate.

CALLS, CALLS, AND MORE CALLS - Don't be afraid or too lazy to make that last call. That one call you've been putting off. Pick up the phone, dial the number and get the information you need. The quickest way to success is smiling and dialing. When talking on the phone for long periods of time, stand up and move around a little. It will give you a fresh perspective. Remember that this is a contact sport - the more people you contact, the more success you'll have. It's that simple.

These are a few time-proven techniques utilized by Las Vegas Human Resources outsourcing firms that have proven helpful when recruiting. Utilizing them will help you enjoy success. Happy Hunting!! <bio>By John Rico of http://www.nationalpeo.com/ .
The IT job market is still one of the hottest markets and commands the highest resume response from job seekers. Given the sheer volume of resumes that a hiring manager has to sift through for each position, only the strongest resumes actually get past the initial 30 second screening. The national average for resumes received for each IT position advertised is 300 and increasing.

1.Make Your Resume Searchable: Using the right keywords is the key for making your IT resume web searchable. It is not enough to mention the skill sets you have, but you must also use them effectively. For example, if ORACLE and VB.NET is your forte, then you should use phrases such as "database programming" and "testing". Another thing about keywords is that resumes these days are simply being scanned electronically for inclusion into company databases. If you are not using the right IT keywords for the position advertised, your resume may not even see a human being.

2.Choose The Right Format: Although different formats have pros and cons, for IT positions, the functional resume format is ideal for its effectiveness in highlighting your skills and experiences. This saves time for hiring managers and you stand a better chance of getting shortlisted.

3.Emphasize Your Skills: The key to cracking the IT job market is really your skills. Emphasize your skills with short sentences such as "programmer with 8 years experience in COBOL and Oracle, and last three yeas as team leader". Another example could be "eight projects in 6 years in C++, SAS, HTML, CAD, and TCP/IP". This also showcases your additional skills in areas such as leadership, management and interpersonal skills (which are sometimes lacking in IT candidates).

4.Avoid Mistakes In Terminology: There are job seekers that still write industry terminology incorrectly, which usually has disastrous consequences on their job search. Example, "data warehousing" is often written as "dataware housing" or worse, "data wearhousing". Proofread your resume thoroughly, then have a friend do the same.

5.Cut Down Lengthy Paragraphs: Summarizing your resume will definitely score points over writing long paragraphs. You don't want your extraordinary skills to get lost in a maze of words. Certifications such as MCDBA, MCP+1, and MCSE should be listed in a stand-alone fashion.

6.Highlight Accomplishments. Mention your responsibilities and specific accomplishments in your current position, giving examples of the platforms used for both back-end and front-end operations.

7.Omit Personal Information. Avoid unnecessary personal details; they will only be distractions.

8.Summarize Your Resume At The Top: Summarizing key elements at the top makes more impact and encourages the employer to continue reading. An executive summary, well written, can do an excellent job at keeping the reader engaged.

9.Avoid The Temptation To Overdo: Treat your resume as your calling card. You must be able to substantiate everything that you have written. For example, if you are applying for an Oracle Financial position when your specialty is really database management, you will be exposed. Additionally, you will lose your chance to be considered for any other position that the employer may have available.

10. Proofread The Resume: Nix grammatical and spelling errors. There is no excuse for typos or misspellings in a resume. Because IT resumes have highly technical words, you have to proofread them more closely.

Getting your resume just right for the initial shortlisting is not hard if you stick to IT resume writing basics. By following these 10 tips, you will be able to write and market your IT resume successfully and land that job. <bio>Heather Eagar is a former professional resume writer who is now dedicated to providing job seekers with resources and products that promote job search success from beginning to end.
