Popular Reality TV Shows

While there are a variety of Reality TV shows that are available for you to watch, there are some that are far more popular than others. The following are brief overviews of some of the most popular Reality TV shows ever.

American Idol

One of the most popular Reality TV shows to ever be aired is American Idol. This is a show that goes around the country auditioning people who want to be singers. While the beginning can be quite comical as you listen to people with no musical talent try out, as the show progresses and the final contestants are announced, it becomes a more intense show that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats. The finalists perform for audiences and the judges comment on their performances, but the viewers get involved by voting for their favorite singer each night. The person with the lowest votes is then voted off of the show. The number one singer on American Idol receives a recording contract and usually goes on to have a very successful music career.

So You Think You Can Dance

Another one of the top Reality TV shows is the show, So You Think You Can Dance. This is a show that is much like American Idol; however, this show is centered around dancing. While it starts almost the same way, with auditions around the United States, the finalists in this show are challenged in a variety of ways. Contestants have to pick partners and learn to dance new styles of dance, even if they are not familiar with them, and then they perform to try to win over the votes of the viewers. While initially the outcome was determined by the judges votes, recently they decided to start allowing the viewers to vote for their favorite dancer, which made this show even more popular than ever before.

These are just a couple of the most popular Reality TV shows, but there are many more that you may be interested in. Other great shows to consider are: Biggest Loser, Top Model, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and Fear Factor. <bio>Visit http://www.reality-tv-online.com/ plus http://www.reality-tv-online.com/top-chef.html and http://www.reality-tv-online.com/american-idol.html. </bio>

When you think about reality television, chances are that there are some shows that really appeal to you and other shows that you really just can not stand. This is true for most people when they think about reality television and it is true for them because of the fact that different reality television shows look at different parts of the human condition. Different parts of that condition tend to hold special or otherwise significant meaning for different people and that is exactly why reality television is such a varied landscape. If you are interested in discovering which reality television shows match your body and mind, here are some ways for you to figure that out.

Try to find a common theme

The first thing that you should do when going down the road of this quest is try to find a common theme linking all of these reality television shows together. Make a list of the reality television shows that you like and make a list of the ones that you don't like. Once you've completed both lists, you should have a very good idea from the list of the types of reality TV shows that you like and the types that you hate. Overall, the common theme that you found within the reality TV shows will allow you to determine if future shows that come out are shows that you might enjoy.

Try to find a pleasing format

Just as a different theme of reality television might appeal to you, a particular show format might be what attracts you to the shows in the first place. Consider reality television in the format of a countdown elimination, a one episode per team instance or any other format that reality television producers might come up with and see if the lists of shows that you like and dislike fall into these formats. For most people, the answer is probably going to be somewhere in the middle since formats and themes don't usually go together, but at the same time you might be able to discover something about yourself through making this type of investigation happen.

Talk to your friends

Talking to your friends is perhaps a thought that had crossed your mind, but if you are like most people then chances are pretty good that you dismissed that thought altogether. This is because while friendship is sometimes predicated on having similar interests, the interests that we do not share are the ones we tend to be most defensive about and for that reason discussing reality television with your friends might be a risky move in your mind. At the same time however, the reactions that you get from your friends and the way in which you deal with those reactions will tell you a lot about your own tastes in this area, which is why talking to your friends about reality television is a very good idea.

Read Online Reviews

The final thing that you'll want to do in an attempt to figure out which reality shows match your body and mind is to read reviews of those shows online. Online reviews differ from newspaper and magazine reviews in the sense that they are more frequently written from a personal style rather than a professional one and that makes it a lot easier for you to identify with reviews that really speak to you. Oftentimes it is the case that the words you find hard to express find expression through others and that is exactly why reading online reviews is an excellent idea to pursue. Do this along with the other suggestions and you should definitely be able to find your answer.<bio>HNE Castings is the industry's leading producer of reality TV castings talent.</bio>

Television shows have changed in the last few years. We still have our sitcoms and dramas, and the occasional movie, but something new has come on the scene lately, and it is giving these other types of shows a real run for their money. I'm talking of course, about reality shows. Reality shows started to appear on television a few years ago, and they have grown in popularity, until you cannot go through three or four channels without coming across some type of reality show.

Reality shows used to give people their fifteen or twenty minutes of fame when they first started out, but in the last couple of years, there have been some people who have found a bit of lasting fame from their appearances on some reality shows, and the public has really latched onto some of these new celebrities. There are so many different types of reality shows nowadays, and some of them seem to be more apt to launch their contestants into fame and fortune than others. Today, you can choose to watch reality shows such as, Survivor, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, Fear Factor, No Opportunity Wasted, American Idol, The Apprentice, So You Think You Can Dance, Hell's Kitchen, The Hills, and these are just a few reality TV shows!

Survivor has churned out more than one new celebrity, and probably the two most popular was a couple who fell in love during their time on the show. Rob and Amber were very popular after competing on Survivor, and a lot of people have followed their lives, even years after the show. Add this to the fact that they appeared as contestants on The Amazing Race together, and came in second place in 2005, and their celebrity status doubled!

Chef Gordon Ramsay is another person who has achieved major celebrity status by appearing as the star on a reality show. His show, Hell's Kitchen, did so well, that he is now doing another reality show, called Kitchen Nightmares, where he takes restaurants that are not faring so well, and turns them around. Chef Ramsay is getting a lot more recognition on the street since he has been doing these shows.

Another reality show that has turned out a whole lot of stars is American Idol. Some of the winners of this singing reality show have not been so successful, (Justin Guarini has been the butt of many jokes) but a lot of the winners have sold multi-million records. Some examples are Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks. This is one type of reality show where contestants definitely have a good chance at becoming an instant celebrity. Singers have a place in one of the most popular group of celebrities in the world, right along with actors and actresses.

If you want to achieve "celebrity status", appearing on a reality show could actually be a smart way of doing so. Just do your research and make sure that you pick the right one. Don't audition for a show that you have no talents for. <bio>HNE Castings offers auditions for American Idol and other reality tv shows such as Survivor, Amazing Race, Fear Factor, Big Brother.
If you watch any amount of television, no doubt you are aware of the Reality TV craze in America. Reality TV has become amazingly popular throughout the country, with millions tuning in to their favorite reality show. With new shows being added to the reality list each year, this is a television phenomenon that is here to stay. While you may not have realized it, Reality TV has been around some time and has developed into the amazing craze that we know of today.

The History

Reality TV has now been around almost fifteen years, starting back in 1992 with the show, "The Real World," which was done on MTV. This was the very beginning of reality TV and it has progressed since then to become what we know of today. "The Real World" was basically a show that had several people from a variety of different backgrounds live together, and their interactions among one another were filmed for people to watch on television. In 2002, Reality TV was brought to new levels with the hit show "Survivor," which was aired by CBS. Since the success of "Survivor," other networks have begun airing reality shows, until now primetime television is actually dominated by shows of this kind.

Why People Love It There are many reasons that people have fallen in love with Reality TV, and one of those reasons is the money. Where else on TV do regular people find the opportunities to win great sums of money. Shows that offer large sums of money are instant attention grabbers, since people love to watch other normal people win large amounts of money, and by the same token, many times they get to watch them lose large sums of money as well.

Another reason that Reality TV has become such a big hit is because of the promise of instant fame. Many people dream of what it would be like to be on television and to be famous, and most people do not get that opportunity in their lives. Reality TV allows normal people to live out their dream of fame, without having to make it big in Hollywood. Lastly, people also enjoy this type of television so much because they have the pleasure of watching people fail and succeed. Many people get a thrill out of watching others fail, and others love to see their favorite contestant win, so it becomes the type of show that they never want to miss. <bio>Visit http://www.reality-tv-online.com/ plus http://www.reality-tv-online.com/top-chef.html and http://www.reality-tv-online.com/american-idol.html. </bio>

Part of the appeal that has reality TV shows so intriguing is the fact that the characters are true-life people, folks who could be your neighbors or co-workers. This engages the audience in a way that not only allows them to relate to the characters, but also makes them feel as if they too could be a television star by being on one of these shows.

Many people in fact do want to be on a reality television show and would like to know how, when and where they can audition to be on shows like The Biggest Loser, The Bachelor and others. Below are some tips on how to prepare for your reality TV show audition.

Get Started

Several reality shows allow candidates to apply online or by mail. For other shows, you must make a videotape of yourself and send it in. There are many reality shows that require that you audition in person. In order to start preparing for the audition process, you'll need to find all the details of that process. Start by looking at the TV network Web sites for reality TV show casting information

When and Where?

There are many online sources for finding out when and where live auditions are held for reality shows. Some blogs or audition sites list audition schedules for multiple reality shows. If you are interested in a specific show only, for example The Amazing Race, you could go to the Web site of the TV network that the show is on to find audition information. Once you know when and where auditions are, you'll need to figure out the logistics of being available for and getting to the audition. There may not necessarily be an audition in your home town or city. In this case, you'll need to arrange travel to the nearest audition site.

Know Your Story

Whether you are applying to be on a reality TV show online, through the mail, or showing up to a live audition, you must prepare by knowing what you will say about yourself. You will need to portray yourself as an interesting person. Start by brainstorming a list of as many different facts about yourself as you can possibly think of. Include places you've live, places you've been, accomplishments you've made, anything at all that makes you interesting. After that, narrow it down to 5-10 interesting tidbits that you can memorize and speak about on demand.

Make for Good Drama

Many of today's reality shows claim they're not casting to fill niches or to create conflict. Despite those claims anyone who has seen more than one episode of any reality show can tell this is not always true. The fact is, reality TV must have some drama in order to be interesting and engaging. Casting people that are likely to create interesting types of conflict ensures this element will be covered. You can use this to your advantage. First off, make sure to keep it real. Don't lie or grossly exaggerate. Think about your opinions and outlooks on controversial matters. Play up certain things about your lifestyle that may clash with that of someone else. Play up certain things about you that make you likely to fill a certain niche.

Confidence is Key

In conclusion, once you have found out all the details about the audition, prepared and memorized your 'story,' and strategized your drama factor, focus on your confidence. You must come across as someone outgoing who is not afraid to be themselves and be outspoken. If nothing else, focusing on this will give you the greatest chance of being cast on a reality TV show.<bio>HNE Castings is an agency that do casting only for reality tv shows.
When participants sign on to be a part of a reality TV show, they sign contracts and are then bound by the terms of the contract. If the participants violate the terms of the contract, then they risk being kicked off of the show. This is what binds the participant. However, there are laws and regulations which govern reality TV shows. This may be hard to believe since many reality TV shows seem cutthroat, but contestants are aware of the type of TV show they are taking part in and they agree to such treatment in their contracts because that is what makes the show interesting.

The FCC regulates what we see on TV, but the shows are prohibited from rigging of any kind, exploiting children, and other such things as nudity and language that are not censored. Those are your standard FCC regulations. However, there have been statements that have claimed that the show Survivor is not subject to game show regulations set forth by the FCC.

Such rules set forth by the FCC involve the Prime Time Access Rule and the Financial Interest and Syndication Rules, which has a large effect on game shows. What the first rule does is give total control of a certain time slot to a local station to do what they please and the second rule gives the producers limited ownership of a program after its initial run. However, these rules don't really interest the public. What interests the public are the censorship rules.

Regarding the claim that Survivor is not subject to the game show regulations of the FCC is contradictory to what the show has claimed. The FCC rules are mostly effective in the areas of censorship and making sure that there is no rigging going on although the above applies as well. They say that reality shows do not leave much room to cheat anyway despite what some may believe. If the FCC caught reality shows rigging, the reality shows would be severely fined. If the contestants found out that the shows were being rigged, then the shows would be facing numerous lawsuits.

Lessons were learned many years ago from such shows as Quiz Show where the producers were feeding the questions and the answers to the contestants before they went on the show. If the audience loved a particular contestant, the producers wanted to make sure that contestant stuck around for a while. Once the ratings would fall, the process would start all over again so that the audience would once again fall in love with a particular contestant.

However, when we look at the reality shows of today, we may absolutely enjoy a particular contestant for them to get voted off. That hardly constitutes any type of rigging because the show is risking viewership if a beloved contestant is gone. The FCC regulates how these shows conduct themselves and they make sure that everything is done fairly to the best of their ability because, if the show is found out, the show risks everything, including their reputation. If they risk their reputation, then they lose viewership. When a show loses viewership, they are then taken off of the air and placed into syndication if they're lucky. Some reality shows have been on the air for so long that it would be a shame for such things to happen, but scandal does occur and solutions must be reached. However, sometimes it is the scandal that brings even more viewers to a show than ever before. But if the show is deceiving their viewers, then viewers feel violated.<bio>Hne Castings can help you to become a participant in a reality tv show like Survivor. Have these captivated your mind since becoming popular a few years ago? If so, there is a chance that you have thought about creating your own reality show. After all, the ideas have to come from somewhere, right? But before you get too excited about this, you should know that working with the big producers is tough business. They hear thousands of ideas a year, and even if you get through to the right person you are going to be hard pressed to win their business. So what is your other option? Simply put, you can look into creating your own reality show. This is easier than ever before thanks to the ever increasing popularity of the digital age.

Believe it or not, with the technology that is available you can create a reality show without the backing of a big producer or television station. This is not to say that you are going to be able to do this in a matter of hours, but if you are serious you can get the job done sooner rather than later.

There is a lot that goes into creating a reality show; even if you are working on your own. First off, you need to come up with an idea. If you have made it this far there is a good chance that you already know what you want your reality show to be based on. Your next step, and most important, is to decide how you are going to shoot the shows. This is the biggest obstacle, but the one that the digital age has helped with in more ways than one. When it comes down to it, you do not need tons of expensive equipment in order to create your own reality show.

You will need to have a quality video camera to start. While these can be expensive if purchased new, you can get a used model for half the price if you search far and wide. Make sure that you get a camera that not only produces quality video, but also something that you are comfortable with. Remember, this will have a lot to do with the way that your reality show turns out.

Finally, it is time for the fun stuff. Once you shoot the first episode it is time to make it live via a streaming web video. Of course, you may want to have your own website set up before you finish so that you can upload the video right away. If this does not suit your situation, why not upload your reality show to a site such as http://youtube.com? This is a great way to get your streaming video in front of those who will be able to give you feedback, and maybe even create other opportunities for you.

As you can see, through the use of streaming video you can create your very own reality show. Who needs a big budget or well known producer?

Copyright Paul Majestyck <bio>Paul Majestyck is global entrepreneur and online author.
You know something has permeated a culture when American colleges and universities are charging big money to teach classes about the sociology and psychology of reality TV.

Aside from the more traditional subjects like calculus and European History, college students are paying several grand a semester to collectively watch and discuss Big Brother, American Idol or MTV's The Real World. Students debate questions like "Why is reality TV so popular?" or "Why do people want to be broadcast while using the toilet or failing to discipline their wild children?" I am sure the founders of the great American institutions of learning are backflipping in their graves knowing that students are writing papers about Flavor Flav, but many academics argue that reality TV actually provides a new lens through which to view and interpret our culture. The question remains: Could reality TV actually be teaching us anything, or are these classes just dangling carrots to get more students to pay $30,000 tuition bills?

No matter what, popular culture has arguably been taken over by television's version of reality. Though these shows are not something many of us wish to put into a time capsule to reflect the condition of American media in the 21st century, most of us cannot get enough of them. There are just as many closet watchers of reality TV as there are self-proclaimed reality addicts. And, it doesn't even seem like the story-line or topic matters anymore -- it's the format that grabs us. The same person might watch Project Runway, Making the Band and Flip that House. So perhaps it's just exciting to peer into the minds, emotions and lives of others. The popularity of blogs would certainly affirm that. In a time when we know less and less about what goes on behind the doors of the Oval Office or the gilded lobbies of American's largest corporations, it seems we all just want a little bit of truth, or else a whole lot of candor. <bio>Find out more about Reality T.V. at http://www.reality-maniacs.com </bio>

Reality shows pervade the medium of television. You can find a plethora of them - documentaries, social experiments, talent shows, makeover programs, and dating marathons, among others - that you can find a venue to get your 15 minutes of fame (or notoriety, if you want).

You can, however, extend your 15 minutes of fame by learning to cope fabulously with the cast, the craziness, and the cameras. Here is how.

Casting Call and Congeniality

Before putting yourself on the line of fire, ensure that you suit the qualifications required of the reality show. If they want singers, be ready with your vocal prowess. If they want dancers, be ready with your moves. And most importantly, be ready with supreme self-confidence. Remember that even the tiniest micro video cameras can capture your diffidence!

When you enter an audition for a reality show, just be yourself. That might sound too clich‚ for you but it is true. There will be more than one interview before the final cast is chosen, so establishing who you are from the beginning and following through on the next interviews are crucial.

As to the other hopefuls and the office staff, try to be nice to them. Get to know some of them, if possible. You just never know if micro video cameras are hidden in the ornamental plants, recording every movement all of you make.

This is because as soon as you walk through the doors of the company, you are already auditioning!

Since you are also being interviewed with cameras around, you need to be comfortable with them, too. If you are lucky, you have to deal with all types of cameras, from the overt to the covert micro video cameras once chosen.

When you do get lucky and clinch a spot on a reality show, especially a social experiment type, remember to just be yourself again. You do not need to worry about how you portray yourself and how the producers and the directors will portray you. Just react the way you would in similar situations and quit worrying about the cameras, even the covert micro video cameras that might be strewn around the place.

Coping with Craziness

In the first place, you are a little crazy when you auditioned for reality shows. How else would you describe someone willing to put himself under the constant intensity and microscopic scrutiny of 24/7 cameras?

Thus, the craziness once inside the reality show should not be alien to your psyche. Just try to ride the crazy, out-of-this-world situations you will find yourself in, react the way you normally would (or at least, as normally as when you had a normal life without micro video cameras following you around), and just enjoy the whole experience.

Besides, crazy is as crazy does. Why not become the purveyor of craziness? Or stated another way, if you cannot beat them, join them!

Cameras Here, There and Everywhere

A reality show exists because of omnipresent cameras. You can see overt cameras recording your every movement, with some shows going to the extreme of having cameras inside the bathroom! If you have not seen yourself pooping, then a reality show will allow you (and a million others) the benefit (of the doubt)!

As such, try to be as comfortable as you can with cameras. You just never know if there are covert micro video cameras in places you thought were safe from scrutiny! If possible, just forget there are cameras around.

Hopefully, the audience will vote for you and make you the big winner. Who knows if someday you will have your own celebrity reality show or your very own reality spin-off? Indeed, dreams can become reality!<bio>For more information on mini cameras like nanny cameras and wireless nanny cameras, visit Video-Surveillance-Guide.com today.
If you are interested in reality television, there are a number of ways that you can go about getting yourself noticed. However, the problem that you invariably run into when trying to figure out how to get yourself noticed by a producer for a reality television show is that figuring out exactly how to do it is a difficult thing to do. After all, attempts to get noticed are not done in a vacuum and for that reason if you have one attempt that goes poorly, your whole goal of getting on a particular reality television show can be dashed in the blink of an eye. You need to make sure that your first attempt is good enough to get on the show without making it something so weird that it would preclude you from ever being selected. Well, below are some ideas to get you started, arranged in order from safest to trickiest.

Video

Video is a great way to start because it is one of the safest things that you could do. Video in modern times doesn't necessarily mean getting in front of a camera and speaking, although of course for some reality shows that might be the way to go in order to provide a particular flavor to your video. You can send in a tape or DVD of your video to the show or in many cases you can even direct them to a website like YouTube where you place your video online for them to see.

Videos allow you to really be yourself in the most basic way. You can go ahead and tell them about yourself and why you think you would be good for the show. Of course, some shows already require videos are part of the initial application process, but for the ones that do not you can always make sure that you include a video. Videos are very safe and very hard to go wrong with and that is why they are the best option for someone that is starting out. However, the problem with the video is that most people think immediately about doing one and that means that with a video it can sometimes be hard to stand out from the crowd.

Website

One step up from the video in terms of trickiness is the website. There are many options for how you can get a website done, with the easiest being to go through something like MySpace or Facebook. However, if those options seem a bit too mainstream for you, another option that is open is creating the website yourself. This will give you the greatest amount of creative control over what ends up on the website, allowing the finished product to have a lot more of your personality in it than a MySpace or Facebook page could ever have.

Since websites can stream videos, you can actually still include a video in your final presentation. A website will allow you to go into great detail about why you would be a great candidate for that particular show and it will of course allow you to answer all of their concerns to your fullest in a way that is neatly referenced and organized for them to visit. With a website however, you risk showing a lot of your personality through the layout and colour scheme that you choose to use. If you use one that turns off the person that visits it, you could damage your chances. This is a minor risk however and that is why a website is still a reasonably safe way to get things done.<bio>HNE Castings is a reality tv castings agency specialized exclusively in reality tv audition shows.</bio>

Part of the appeal of reality TV is that it offers a look into the lives of ordinary folks like you and me. No writers, no actors, just everyday folks using their strength and common sense. Why, we could be the ones up there on screen winning glorious prizes for outlasting our tribe mates or marrying a pseudo millionaire! But just how real is reality TV?

Not very, say some critics and observers. In fact, reality TV producers manipulate reality in several ways. Otherwise, the shows wouldn't attract the ratings they have. After all, who would tune in to watch people in their own homes living a perfectly average day?

The first way that reality is manipulated is that the participants are removed from their everyday environment. Whether they are marooned on an island or housed in a resort, they are fish out of water and their access to resources depends on the goodwill of the producers.

Second, the participants are placed in competition with each other. Only one person can win the grand prize, whether that prize is a cash reward, a television contract, or the love of another person. In order to stay on the show, contestants must face difficult challenges. Each show usually ends with at least one contestant being sent home. Thus the focus of reality TV is manufactured conflict.

The conflict is usually heightened by the selection of participants. Producers know that conflict means ratings, so they try to cast each show with people who are natural opponents such as an out gay man or lesbian and a homophobe or a strong, take-charge woman and a sexist man. Such pairings are almost guaranteed to keep conflict going and provide hours of arguing for the entertainment of viewers.

Finally, even with the controlled environment and the inherent conflict, reality TV shows must still be edited to create a "storyline." Editors sort through countless hours of mundane activities to find the moments fraught with tension and conflict. If two participants get along great for 99% of the day, but exchange sharp words once, it is likely the argument that you will see. Similarly if a participant says many positive things about another participant but adds, "I wish he weren't so controlling," you're likely to see only the complaint about the controlling behavior and none of the compliments that came before.

Careful editing can make smart people appear dumb, nice people seem like villains, and casual friends look like lovers.

Over and above these obvious manipulations, there is some question about whether reality TV producers go even a step further and try to manipulate the results of the competition. In 2001, for instance, Stacey Stillman sued the television program Survivor claiming that the executive producer had encouraged other contestants to vote her off the island instead of a player who was more popular with viewers. CBS, the network that airs Survivor, has vehemently denied these charges. Other series that have been accused of rigging outcomes include The Amazing Race, American Idol, and Big Brother. Even many of the staunchest reality TV fans admit to wondering if the outcomes are really as random as they are made to seem.

In the end, no one has ever been able to prove that the outcomes of these shows are fixed. One thing is certain, though. The situations in which the participants interact with each other are so carefully manipulated that they bear little, if any, resemblance to reality. <bio>HNE is a talent agency that provides casting services and auditions for reality tv shows such as American Idol, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Survivor, Trading Spaces. http://www.hollywoodnorthentertainment.com/ </bio>

If you are feeling like your clothes are dated or you look older than you actually are, there are personal improvement reality shows that might be able to help get you on track.

"Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" is a Bravo network reality show that focuses on personal appearance, style, and fashion. It is hosted by the much beloved "Project Runway" mentor Tim Gunn as well as model Veronica Web. Tim and Veronica meet the guest then review what she normally wears, discarding most of her existing wardrobe. They use fashion software to design a new look for the guest then set out on a shopping spree, which includes Tim's "ten essential items" for the new wardrobe. The guest is then sent for one-on-one coaching, which may include seeing a hairdresser or a designer. At the end of the show, the guest shows off her new look to family and friends. While you may not be able to get a personal makeover by Tim and Veronica, you can notice styles that you like to help update your look.

Most people hate what aging does to their looks, but there are ways you can make yourself appear years younger than you actually are. The Learning Channel's "Ten Years Younger" takes a man or woman and gives him or her a makeover to appear younger than he or she actually is. The show has the participants stand in a soundproof, clear box in the middle of a crowd of 100 people. The crowd is asked to guess his or her age. The average is determined then told to the participant. Most are shocked by the results. The show then takes steps to make the participant at least 10 years younger than the age everyone guessed. None of the cosmetic procedures is surgical but rather actions like teeth straightening and whitening, LASIK eye surgery, and dermatology procedures such as microdermabrasion and botox. Then, a panel of experts comes in to give the contestant a new hairstyle, makeup or skin care tips, and a new wardrobe. The participant is then put back in the soundproof, clear box and a crowd is asked to guess his or her age. This show can give you some great ideas about easy and relatively inexpensive ways to help make yourself look years younger.

Most everyone knows that Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Carson Kressley is a fashion expert. Therefore, it only made sense when the Lifetime Network awarded Carson his own makeover show -- "How to Look Good Naked." This show is based on a British series that takes women of all shapes and sizes and helps them learn to love their body. Like the other personal improvement reality shows, it discourages extreme dieting and plastic surgery, but helps the woman learn to dress correctly for her body shape, including the correct undergarments. After a wardrobe, hair, and makeup makeover, the end of the episode is celebrated with a photo shoot. The show is so popular that it is drawing in a record number of viewers, especially among the female 18-34 demographic group.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, so WE's "Bulging Brides" helps brides get back into shape before the big day. The show features personal trainer Tommy Europe and nutrition specialist Nadeen Boman. Together, Tommy and Nadeen help the bride's get back onto shape before they stress eat their way out of their wedding dresses.

If you think reality shows aren't really beneficial to your personal life, take a look at some of these shows.
The cult-like following shows like The Bachelor and The Amazing Race have garnered have transformed the 'reality' TV show format into something of a pop-culture phenomenon.

Whether you an experienced or amateur actor, you may have decided you would like to audition for a certain reality TV show. Even if you have no acting experience and no interest in acting, you may be considering trying out for a reality show just for the thrill of it. There are many factors to consider when auditioning to be on reality TV. One very important factor to consider is the portfolio of pictures you will submit in the audition process.

Already Have a Portfolio?

If you are an actor with any level of experience, you may already have an existing portfolio of professional photos of yourself. Your portfolio may include head shots, body shots and lifestyle photos among others. Whether the photos of you that are in your portfolio were taken by an agency, a professional photographer or a friend, they are undoubtedly both professional and flattering. Unfortunately, producers of reality TV shows are not looking for professional actors or models (unless you are trying out for America's Next Top Model, etc.)

Keep it Real

If you want to audition for and get cast in a reality TV show, chances are, you will need to portray yourself as a real person -- A.K.A. your real self. So if you have a professional portfolio, scrap it altogether and start from ground zero. Choose a simple photo album for your portfolio. Go through recent personal photographs that include you. Make sure the photos you choose to include portray you as you currently look. If you had long hair but recently cut it, make sure to only use photos where your hair is the same as its current style.

Capacity for Drama

In addition to choosing pictures where you look like a regular (real) person and where you really look like yourself, look for different pictures that capture the range of emotion you are capable of. Reality TV producers look for participants that will create interesting circumstances due to their propensity for drama. In other words, do not choose only photos in which you are happy and shiningly smiling. Try to find some (or strategically take some) pictures where different emotions are captured on your face. This may sound gloomy, but if you have pictures where you look angry or sad, include them so that you come across as someone with some depth of emotion.

Personality Pointers

When putting together your photo album -- A.K.A. portfolio, make sure to include several pictures that portray your personality and lifestyle. For example, if you are known as a world traveler, use pictures of yourself in Italy, or at that Buddhist temple you visited last summer. If you are an avid athlete, include photos of recent events you participated. Try to use pictures that show you actively participating in life -- no matter how you do it.

Video Portfolio

Though sometimes you will be auditioning live, (and may be asked to submit your photographs prior to the audition) chances are you will be asked to videotape a 2 to 5 minute video of yourself first. Some reality TV producers request a video tape in lieu of photos or a portfolio. In this case, review past seasons of the program you are trying to get cast for and see what type of people the show is likely to pick. Practice in front of friends and family members, and re-record your audition as many times as it takes until you get it just right.<bio>HNE Castings is the industry's top reality tv show castings agency that has become a top producer of reality TV talent.</bio>

The surge of reality tv shows has brought about a new species -- the reality tv judge. Reality judges can vary from the very nice and helpful to the brutally harsh and cutting. No show highlights the range of reality judges' personalities any better than "American Idol." Some may even say that it was the "American Idol" judges that set the tone for all other reality shows.

When "American Idol" began in 2002, Americans were shocked by judge Simon Cowell's bluntness that was to the point of being unkind at times. However, Cowell was coming into the show with previous judging experience. He had already served one year on the British series "Pop Idol." Having spent many years in the recording industry may have also given him the ability to quickly judge between the good and the bad singers. As seasons of "American Idol" progressed however, fans went from booing Cowell's frank comments to respecting and even admiring him as a reality tv judge.

"American Idol" also set the bar for the nice judge in singer Paula Abdul. Abdul herself has been a recording artist for over 20 years, so she may be more sensitive to what it takes to be a successful artist and how much encouragement one needs to make his or her dreams come true. However, Paula is often criticized for being too nice and not offering contestants constructive comments for fear of hurting their feelings.

Somewhere in the middle lies musician/record producer Randy Jackson. He seems to meld the executive world of Simon Cowell with the artist world of Paula Abdul, having personally experienced both of them. Sometimes he can seem overly critical of contestants, but he often offers them encouragement as well.

The judge standards of "American Idol" set the tone for many other reality shows. On "America's Got Talent," you can find the often critical Piers Morgan, the sometimes overly sympathetic Sharon Osbourne, and the middle of the road David Hasselhoff. The same is true of "So You Think You Can Dance" to a certain extent with British judge Nigel Lythgoe often being booed by the crowd for his candid opinions about the dancers. On "Dancing with the Stars," British judge Len Goodman often plays the heavy. Although Carrie Ann Inaba is the lone female judge on "Dancing with the Stars," she too can be critical of the celebrities. Bruno Tonioli can be tough at times, but is usually known for his enthusiastic shouting of "Ten!" with a punch in the air when giving a celebrity and their professional partner a perfect score.

Of course, not all shows have the good judge/bad judge quality. "Project Runway," like "So You Think You Can Dance" has regular judges in designer Michael Kors, Elle fashion director Nina Garcia, and model Heidi Klum as well as a guest judge each week. While Michael, Nina, and Heidi can at time all be critical, it seems that Nina is often seen as being the harshest judge. The "Top Chef" judging is helmed by chef Tom Colicchio, who walks a fine line of being fair and judgmental of the contestants. Also serving as "Top Chef" judges are food author Padma Lakshmi, food critic Gail Simmons, and food author Ted Allen.

One reality show that truly rotates it judges each week is "Iron Chef America." While former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Ted Allen and Vogue food columnist Jeffrey Steingarten often appear on the show, there are times where neither of them is on the judging panel. The panel is usually made up of food professionals, such as personal chef Art Smith, food author Akiko Katayama, or restaurateur Donatella Arpaia. However, sometimes "Iron Chef America" goes with a judge who is not a professional in the food industry, including pop singer Jewel and actress Julie White.

While a reality tv judge may seem hard on your favorites, in the end, most all are fair and usually offer the contestants some encouragement to stick with their craft as well as constructive criticism to help them improve.<bio>Libbles is a writer for Reality-TV-Online.com.
So you want to know how to manifest reality, right? Actually you're already doing it. You're creating reality every second of every minute of every hour of every day. But I suspect you don't like what you are creating.

And you know why? It's because you're creating by default. What do I mean by that. What I mean is this. You're manifesting reality but are unaware of what, or how you're creating, so you think you don't know how to manifest reality. However, the truth is you're already manifesting it.

You are manifesting what is already in your subconscious. Most of what is stored there is junk, that's why the reality you experience everyday is junk.

It's a question of what you put in, you put out. So where does all the junk come from? Well it comes from your past.

Since the time you were young you have been collecting all kinds of stuff, some good others not so good. Again not consciously but unconsciously, because you were not aware of it. However, the fact of the matter is that your subconscious is like a tape recorder.

It records all your experiences irrespective of whether they are good or bad, and here comes the part that this article is about. It plays out those experiences in our lives and we call that manifesting reality.

In other words, the question andquot;how to manifest realityandquot; is answered right there. The subconscious doesn't discriminate in any way or use any kind of filter.

It records whatever it hears, whatever it sees, whatever it experiences.

So this also explains why you get what you get.

Here's another twist to how to manifest reality. You see, something happens whenever you experience events attracted to you by your subconscious.

What happens is this. The experience bothers you. It bothers you so much that you find yourself unable to keep your mind of it. And what happens next is this: that experience or something similar to it is repeated in your life.

Let me give you an example. Lets say you had a bad childhood and experienced things like rejection. Now what happens is that the episode of rejection is recorded in your subconscious, meaning that you experience more rejection which is attracted by your subconscious.

So, everytime you're rejected you feel real bad. You wonder why.

You dwell on it. You become angry and bitter. You blame those who rejected you. Sometimes you hate them and vow to pay them back.

And you know what? That experience happens again.

Now, I have explained to you how to manifest reality, actually how you manifest reality. But that was more reality by default. Creating your ideal reality, in other words, the things you want, is a more conscious effort.

It requires that you first gain the awareness that you're ultimately a powerful being and the creator of your reality, whether good or bad.

You need to realize that whatever you see on the outside is an accurate reflection of what is on the inside.

Stop blaming other people, they are just instruments who fulfill the wishes of your subconscious.

If you want to change your outer reality, you need to change what is on the inside.

To create your ideal reality, focus on the things you want, not on the things you don't want, even if that's what is happening right now. Because if you don't your current reality will persist.

Tomorrow is created today. So focus on what you want today and tomorrow you'll have what you want.

That in a nutshell, is how to manifest reality. <bio>For more information on how to manifest reality visit http://www.how-to-manifest-your-desires.com </bio>

Reality TV has become a popular form of entertainment. Now, people all over the world are turning on and tuning in to see the latest hype about their favorite "real" situation and those taking part in it. Whether their interests lie on a desert island or the big city and bright lights, it is easy to find something to satisfy your yearnings. The vast range of topics that reality TV has come to encompass has made it near to impossible to ignore, and that is, perhaps what makes this newer form of entertainment interesting to those who watch.

Over the past several years, it has become more important for those living in society to connect with those around them. Reality TV allows those who watch to do just that. No matter how indirect the connection, it's still present and very alive.

Curiosity plays a big role in this, as often times, viewers will try to put themselves in a particular situation, and figure out how they might react. The difference is it's actually happening to someone and not made up; part of the enchantment is, it isn't happening to the viewers, which makes it more fun to watch from afar.

Reality TV has turned into somewhat of a real-life soap opera, complete with characters whose fates are often decided in different ways. In some cases, these fates are decided by viewers, which makes it that much more intriguing. The reason for this is that people tend to care about something more when they can take an active part in it.

Reality TV has also given regular viewers the opportunity to directly participate, while just being themselves in the process. There is, however, a certain amount of falseness that must be incorporated into acting out real situations, because of the nature of television itself, but, for the most part, it's all about real people facing real challenges.

This type of television is very unique for a couple of reasons.

The shows are often relatively short in duration, and are usually broadcasted annually, so as not to saturate the airwaves and overstay its welcome. This also helps boost the ratings for each particular show, as the viewing public isn't getting too much at one time.

Reality TV has also presented a diverse side to the entertainment industry never seen before. It has become fun and interesting to follow each participant, because he or she is a person with a real conflict, and this really matters to viewers. Whether the show is based around legality issues as seen on court TV, a competition for the next best entertainer, or survival of the fittest, the steaks are always high. This is, perhaps, why reality TV has become so captivating, and why it is, undoubtedly, here to stay. <bio>Do you ever find yourself watching a reality TV show and think "Hey I could do that"? Well you're right. You could do that, and Hollywood North Entertainment offers casting services TV http://www.hollywoodnorthentertainment.com/. </bio>

Have you ever watched the television program Dancing With The Stars? If not, that is surprising. Dancing With the Stars is a television show that is loved by many different people of all different ages. For example, I am a mother of 6 children. Dancing With the Stars is the only show that my children, all except the baby because he can not talk, and I love to watch. We try not to miss a single episode.

My oldest, an eleven year old girl and my 4th oldest, a four year old girl, sit week after week glued to the screen hoping to pick up some new moves to use in their drill squad performances. If we have to miss an episode, I hear it for days from them both.

Then there is the flipside, and by that I mean the portion of my family that are boys. I have two boys that watch it weekly as well and they are 7 and 8 years old. The older of the two watch it wondering if he will ever dance like that and the younger of the two watch it hoping to see someone mess up. Go figure, boys will be boys.

I personally like to watch it because it shows that celebrities do not automatically come by a wide array of talent they have to work to become good at some things. My personal favorite celebrity that has been on the show, probably showed that more than some. Billy Ray Cyrus is my favorite of the all the celebrities that have appeared on Dancing With the Stars. He struggled from day one. He was large and awkward to put it nicely.

Billy Ray never let his awkwardness hold him back though. He gave it his all every time he performed. An interesting point is that season, all of my children were also rooting Billy Ray on. Granted they were rooting for him because he is the father to their favorite actress but none the less, it again shows the wide range of ages that enjoy the show. After all, any show that can keep the interest of a woman in their mid to late 30s and also her six children must have something worthwhile in it.

Now let us take a minute to compare what the different age groups think of the judges. The three widely known judges are; Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonili. Every one has their own opinion of the judges. Some like one or two of them and there are also some that like all three or none of them. I like the fact that the judges usually will be right on the money. However, I have noticed that my children tend to get upset with the judges, even when their scores are warranted, if the judges give their favorite performer a bad score. They seem to be hardest on Carrie Ann, especially my boys.

No matter what age, sex, or geographic area you are from, chances are you have seen an episode or more of the ever popular show Dancing With the Stars. If you have children, try to sit down and watch an episode with them. It is a fun way to install quality family time in this hectic world we live in.<bio>Kathy is a guest writer at Reality-TV-Online.
With so many people longing to get in shape today, it is no small wonder there are a number of reality shows with a fitness theme. Some people may say that sitting on the sofa watching a fitness show is not really helpful, but watching others get in shape -- especially people that seemed to be almost hopeless cases -- can inspire you to lose weight and get fit.

One of the most popular fitness/weight loss shows on American television is NBC's "The Biggest Loser." The premise of "The Biggest Loser" is simple -- take obese people and have them live on a campus while they learn to properly diet and workout with the help of trainers. One of the reasons the show is so popular is that the people chosen to go on the show seem almost doomed to failure because they are so obese. Many are facing medical issues such as diabetes or heart disease if they do not get their weight under control. However, most feel that being so large hinders them from exercise.

"The Biggest Loser" has been on the air for five seasons. The first season was comprised of 12 contestants divided up between two trainers, Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels. Season 2 featured 14 contestants who were divided up into teams based on their gender. Season 3 had a twist -- it featured 50 contestants, one from each state. From that 50, it was narrowed down to 14 who would remain at the campus with Bob and Kim Lyons (who replaced Jillian), but the other 36 participated in a weigh loss/fitness program at home and some of them later rejoined the cast. Season 4 saw an even bigger surprise -- of the original 18 that showed up on campus, only 12 were chosen for teams. However, the six not chosen formed the secretive Black team, trained by Jillian. The Black Team trained separately and unknown from the other teams, but later joined them. The fifth season of "The Biggest Loser" featured couples -- teams comprised of mother/daughter, father/daughter, brothers, best friends, former teammates, mother/son, etc. Each duo fought against the other couples until the Blue and Black teams were established. Seasons 6 and 7 are scheduled to be "The Biggest Loser: Families" and "The Biggest Loser: Couples II" respectively.

Each season the contestants learn not only how to eat nutritiously, but also must workout each day. While the trainers help, there are times when the contestants must figure out their own diet and workout plans based on what they have learned on the show.

Another reality show with a fitness theme focuses on celebrities who have let themselves go -- "Celebrity Fit Club." "Celebrity Fit Club" airs on VH1 and is now in its sixth season. Celebrities such as comedian Ralphie May, rapper Biz Markie, actress Jackee Harry, actress Kelly LeBrock, singer Carnie Wilson, and actress Maureen McCormick, and host A.J. Benza have appeared on the show. Like contestants on "The Biggest Loser," the celebrities are shown how to prepare healthy meals while also undergoing physical training with former Drill Sergeant Harvey Walden, IV. There is also a psychotherapist there to help the celebrities get to the root of their weight problems.

Whether it is real people or celebrities losing weight, a fitness reality show can inspire you to get in shape and eat healthier.<bio>Libbles is a writer at Reality-TV-Online.com where you can get the latest recaps of the Biggest Loser.</bio>

One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend is at car shows. I'll admit that I was never raised to think much about cars or to consider looking at cars fun. When I married my husband, however, all of that changed. He is a car fanatic and he took me to car shows from the second week that I met him.

The first few weekends I spent at car shows it was not too exciting for me. I went because he loved them, and that was good enough for me. I found myself much more interested in the people that attended the car shows than in the actual cars at the car shows. I would wander with my husband and his other car-loving friends but my mind would wander aimlessly to anything other than the cars.

I guess my love for car shows began as I began to force myself to pay attention to what was happening around me at the shows. I began to listen to my husband as he tried to teach me all of the important things to know about the various makes and models of the classic cars at the car shows. Instead of ignoring him, I listened and I found that I really liked learning about cars. And the more I looked to the people around me, I found that I liked what I saw in them and I wanted to really be a part of these car shows.

I went out on a limb and bought an old classic car for my husband to restore and then enter in car shows. I have never seen such a surprised but thrilled look on someone's face as on the day that I bought that car for him. He spent the next two years out in our garage fixing up every part of that car. I should have known that I was signing myself up to never see him. It didn't matter though, because he loved it so much.

It was with great pride that he entered his restored car into several car shows in our area. We spent many weekends at these car shows and instead of wandering around the shows, now we were stationed near our car to talk about it with pride and to explain it to other wanderers. I loved those weekends, and I loved feeling the pride that my husband had for his car.

Car shows really are a great way to spend time. Be careful though, because once you start enjoying them you just might get hooked. I did, and I've recently begun working to restore a little beauty of my own to enter in future car shows. <bio>Belina Storrey loves car shows almost as much as she loves her job as a writer for a popular magazine.
Reality TV is entertaining. Whether you enjoy watching people embarrass themselves or you like to watch others challenge themselves to points where you would never go, then reality TV is the right choice for you. If your thoughts are of the upcoming season premiere or you are looking forward to seeing those reruns you missed, you are just delving into the ordinary adventures that reality TV can offer to you. Why not go farther with it? That's true entertainment.

To help you to make reality TV something that is more than just a television show, consider these ways.

1.Stage Your Own Survivor. Sure, you won't be traveling to the most remote island you can find, but you can do something locally. For example, get the neighborhood together to have a Survivor challenge like those that they have on the popular show. You may want to consider teams that have to put together puzzles, races of all types, and mental challenges. The winner gets a pool of funds that has been put together by the participants.

2.If Iron Chef is more your style, then why not take on another chef of your own? Do you think you make a better meal than your sister-in-law? Why not challenge her to a cooking showdown based on this reality television show? For entertainment, give yourself a time limit, a secret ingredient and the chance to win a gift certificate to your favorite cooking supply store.

3.If your thing is that you need to lose weight, get together some other people that are in the same boat. All you need to do to accomplish this task is hire a personal trainer to handle it. A time limit, a rigorous regimen and this reality TV show has just become one of the most important challenges of your lifetime. Your reward besides better health may be a new wardrobe.

Why not take reality TV to the next level of entertainment? Why not immerse yourself in the fun that is happening there? Are you up for the challenge? Are you committed? Many people are doing these types of situations and making them work. Whatever reality TV show is your favorite, make sure you take it to the next level. <bio>Michael Lewis is a contributing writer at http://www.gottarelax.com where you can find more articles about movies and television. </bio>
