CB radio offers a short-range communication system that can be used for business as well as hobby purposes. One need not have any technical qualifications to use it. CB radio service generally doesn't interfere with other radio signals. This is normally accomplished through frequency regulations adopted by the government. Considering the safety aspects, many governments have made it mandatory to have a license for operating a CB radio.

The signals sent into the air do not stop at the borders; therefore, every country should have the proper rules set up for planning and managing the radio signals so that one does not interfere with another. If this fails, the CB radio service is useless. Therefore, the installation and use of CB radios should by done with someone with a valid license, preferably one issued by a government agency. The agency manages the radio signal spectrum in such a manner that they are available to those who need them.

In the UK, the agency that regulates the use of CB radio is a subdivision of the department of trade and industry. They manage the CB radio spectrum of the UK both nationally and internationally. CB radios can be used only with a valid license or under the supervision of a license holder. OAP networks, Girls Guides and Scouts are exempted from having a license. The license is issued by the radio-licensing center in the UK. Other countries have other agencies that issue CB radio licenses.

As noted above, the user either should have a valid license to operate or be under the supervision of a license holder. Supervision by a licensee stipulates that both the licensee and the non-license holder should be in close proximity. However, genuine cases of group operations are exempt from direct supervision. Normally, the license is issued in the name of the CB radio license holder. Individuals under the age of 14 are not issued a license.

A license is still required for the reception of CB signals, even without transmission. Walkie-talkies are exempted from licensing, but they do need to conform to the agency directives on equipment. Taxi drivers should be licensed individually and the taxi company must comply with all the rules of CB radio service. Normally the license is valid for one year, after which it must be renewed for further use. If caught using the license for illegal activity, the agency may cancel the license. <bio>http://www.information-finers.com http://www.auto-tips-tools.com </bio>

Frequency Considerations for Recreational 2 Way Radios

If you are in the market for 2 way radios for personal use, you have an immediate and important choice to make: What radio frequency band do you require?

Frequency! 2 way radios obviously utilize 'wireless' communication methods so when using a 2 way radio you are transmitting and sending your message through the air -- the same air that is currently carrying television signals, commercial radio signals, Ham radio signals and literally thousands of signals from other private 2 way radios. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has the job of controlling all of these communication signals so they don't run into each other; to accomplish this they have reserved frequency bands for use by certain types of communication (signal sending) devices. There are two frequency bands in use for recreational 2 way radios, these are called Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS).

In 1996, the FCC reserved a set of radio frequencies they called the Family Radio Service (FRS) band, specifically for short-range 2 way radios (radios that operate no more than 2 miles away from each other) with a small power output (up to 500 milliwatts or one-half watt).

About fifty years before the FCC created the FRS band they had reserved a set of frequencies for higher power 2 way radios that operated over a longer range this is the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) band. The GMRS band is for radios with a power output between one and five watts and a range over 2 miles. The FCC regulates the 2 way radios that operate on the GMRS band and requires users of this type of radio to obtain a license and pay a fee. The GMRS license is good for five years and costs $80.00; the license must be obtained by an adult (the radios operating under the license may be used by minors but only with the licensed adult's knowledge and permission). Go to the FCC's Internet page at: http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=service_homeandid=general_mobile for more information on GMRS licensing.

When buying 2 way radios, your choice is between a set of radios that operates only on one of these frequency bands or a set of radios that is able to operate on either one of these frequency bands. This determination will obviously have to be made based on the maximum distance the radio users will be from each other. If the radios are to be used within two miles of each other, FRS will be the best (and least expensive) choice. If a greater distance is consistently required, 2 way radios that operate on the GMRS frequency band will be required. If the need for distance is uncertain or if you want the option of occasionally transmitting up to five miles a FRS/GMRS hybrid is the radio set to choose. <bio>http://twowayradioshq.com Find out more about Two Way Radios. </bio>

The Basics of Motorola Two Way Radios

Motorola two way radios work almost like a cellular telephone in that they are used as a method of communication between people in different locations but there are a few major differences between the two way radio communication and telephone communication. The most noticeable difference between two way radio and telephone communication is that to the people talking on two way radios have to take turns talking -- this is called the 'half-duplex' mode of operation (telephone conversations, where people can be talking at the same time, uses what is called full-duplex mode).

There are two frequency bands in use for two way radios these are the Family Radio Service (FRS) band and the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) band. The FRS band is specifically used for short-range communication between two way radios -- short range is defined as 2 miles or less. The GMRS band is used for two way radios uses that require longer range operation, where the users may be up to eight miles from each other.

Some two way radios are only able to use the FRS band but almost all Motorola two way radios in commercial use are able to take advantage of both the FRS and GMRS bands.

One important note about GMRS operation: The FCC regulates two way radios that operate on the GMRS band and requires users of this type of radio to obtain a license and pay a fee.

Channels! There are 22 channels commonly used on two way radios: Channels 1 through 7 can be used by all two way radios whether they are using the FRS range or the GMRS range; channels 8 through 14 are reserved for used by radios using the FRS band and channels 15 through 22 are reserved for use by radios using the GMRS band. How this works in practical terms is pretty simple; basically, all the two way radios within eight miles of each other that are set to the same channel will be able to communicate with each other. The catch is, everyone with a radio receiver set to that channel's frequency will also be able to hear whatever is said -- so be careful about what you say. To combat that problem, most Motorola two way radios are also equipped with "privacy codes." These privacy codes will break up a single channel into many sub-channels which gives the radio users much more privacy. <bio>http://twowayradioshq.com Find out more about Two Way Radios. </bio>

Ham radio is often referred to as amateur radio and is a hobby that is enjoyed by millions of individuals across the globe. A ham radio operator uses a two-way radio to broadcast with other amateurs for the purpose of entertainment, public service or other venture.

The use of ham radio may actually help to save lives as operators often support the local community with emergency and disaster communications. On a recreational basis, ham radio can help to increase an individual's self awareness of electronics, the operations of radio and communication. In addition, ham radio is often used to showcase entertainment for listeners and may even help to launch a new career for an amateur.

Ham radio was once confined to an actual radio, but the progression of the world wide web has changed the way that people both listen and communicate via radio. In fact, there are a number of radio stations that actively communicate with listeners online. This activity paved the way for ham radio to reach a broad audience via the internet. While some simply use ham radio as a way to talk with friends, meet new people who share common interest and discuss topics that are relevant to a specific idea, others regularly use ham radio to send and receive emergency notifications relating to severe weather, emergency situations, disaster relief and other forms of scenarios that call for fast action that are of interest to the public.

Like traditional radios, ham radio equipment is often portable enough to accompany the operator while on vacation. In order to use ham radio, individuals must be licensed and cannot successfully travel with the equipment otherwise. The only way that an individual can become licensed to operate ham radio is to successfully pass an exam, which is created to confirm the individual's knowledge and understanding of key radio concepts. Unlike CB radio, individuals broadcasting on ham radio must possess a valid license to do so.

The best way to learn about ham radio operator licensing is to stop by a local club and speak with the owner. He/she will be able to direct most hopeful operators in the right direction. Once licensed, individuals will gain additional information on regulations and rules surrounding ham radio use and broadcasting. In addition, ham radio broadcasting equipment will be made available to licensed amateurs and can be found at a variety of internet specialty stores. <bio>To find out more about ham radio, please visit our website at http://www.hamradioguide.info .
For individuals who love to listen to music in their car and want a high-quality sound, they may want to consider looking into HD radio. HD radio is an easy way to upgrade both FM and AM channels. Instead of receiving analog signals, individuals with HD receive digital signals. What this means, is a clearer, crisper sound that is closer in quality to a CD then to traditional, FM radio.

If you are an individual that listens to AM radio stations but are disappointed and annoyed with the typical, lower quality sound, this will enable your AM radio listening experience to be very similar to your FM listening experience. This is a huge upgrade in itself. You also no longer have to worry about the signal fading or the static that often breaks up your favorite shows that are played on AM radio.

You also get more information, and then you would by simply listening to traditional radio. You'll be able to receive the name of the artist and the titles of every song that is played. This enables you to go out and purchase the CD or download MP3s anytime that you hear a song that you like.

You also will have more options, because HD radio does come with multi-casting. This allows you to listen to a lot more stations and DJ's. Another very neat feature of HD radio is that it allows users to tag songs so that they can go on and buy them from Itunes at a later time.

HD radio was created IBiquity digital and it allows radio stations to buy a license to this technology. Another advantage of HD radio is that if an individual is no longer pleased with it or no longer finds it necessary, they can go back to listening to the analog signal. This is a bit different from HDTV, because in a few years, individuals will not have a choice, because the analog signal will be turned off permanently. This is not the case with HD radio.

HD radio allows for a very advanced, clear and informative listening experience. Users can listen to their favorite shows and even additional channels. They are also able to get artists and song titles of all songs that are played. This gives them the opportunity to identify an artist and then go out and purchase the album, if they feel so inclined. HD radio is also an excellent choice for individuals that listen to a lot of AM radio. It allows them to finally be able to listen to it clearly. HD radio involves using a digital signal instead of the old traditional analog. This allows for a listening experience that is much closer to what would expect when listening to a CD. The music will have much more clarity and will have a much higher quality. If you are interesting in purchasing HD radio, don't worry, it's free. You will however, have to pay for the HD tuner which isn't too much of a hassle or expense though.<bio>Auto TransportVehicle Transport</bio>

There were a few illegal users around them, and, due to a sudden spur in the growth of illegal users, CB radio service was legalized in 1981. The early illegal users imported the equipment from United States. After legalization, the UK government stamped all the approved equipment with two logos: CB934/81 or CB27/81. A license was required to operate CB radios, a document that could be obtained from the post office. But that was then, in 2004, licensing was scrapped.

Background

CB radio usage started with truck drivers who imported the equipment from the U.S. and operated it illegally. Since the import was from the United States, the 27 MHz systems were popular. The craze for CB radios was so immense that engineering experts started converting radiotelephony devices to operate on the 27MHz band. The number of CB radio users grew by the day, and the radio regulatory department started prosecuting all illegal users; the number was so huge, however, that the office found it difficult to track down all of us. CB radio clubs that demanded legalization of CB radio use followed this craze. Finally, the government legalized two frequency bands, 27MHz and 934 MHz.

Bands Legalized in the United Kingdom

In 1981, the UK government legalized three frequency bands: the 26.965 to 27.405 MHz band with 40 channels, the 27.6 to 27.99MHz band with 40 channels, and the 934 MHz band with 20 channels. Both frequency bands use frequency modulation of the FM status. The 27MHz channel was noisy, while the quality was far superior in 934 MHz UHF band. Initially, the number of CB radio operators in the 934 MHz band was less, but once antenna restrictions were removed and quality equipment was available, the numbers grew. The 934 MHz was later discontinued due to limited use. The general rule for antennas is that they should be vertical and omni-directional, and should not exceed 5 feet in height.

Popular CB Radio Channels in the United Kingdom

Three CB radio channels are popular in UK: Channel 9, which is used for emergency calling, channel 14, which is operated for general calling and channel 19 (or the truckers channel), which is widely used by truckers.

CB Radio Regulating Agency in the UK

The CB radio service operation in the UK is regulated by UK RandTTE Regulations organization. The agency is a subdivision of the Department of Trade and Industry. They manage and plan the CB radio service spectrum both at an international and national level. All CB radio equipment has to comply with the UK radio interface directives, but the UK accepts other country's CEPT-approved equipments for CB radio service. The license should be a valid one issued by that country. <bio>http://www.information-finers.com http://www.auto-tips-tools.com </bio>

As a new driver, you will have some new responsibilities. If you are reading this article, you could be a teenager that just got their license or someone older who never had a license before. Which ever your case, there are some things you need to know about care insurance and how you can become a safer driver on the road. Almost everyone gets a driver's license at some point in their life, but not everyone always knows the risk involved every time you step foot into a vehicle.

What the Insurance Company Sees

Being that you are a new driver, you will have to get insurance. If you are a teenager that just acquired your license, it is best to stay on your parent's policy until you have a few "safe driver" years under your belt. At this point, the insurance company, no matter which one you choose, will see you as a higher risk. Statistics show that teenager pose a higher risk while driving because of a few common facts. These facts are:

1. Distraction: It is common for a teenager to have many distractions. Distractions to a teenager are heightened because they typically do not distinguish importance of responsibilities. Example, if a song they like is playing on the radio, and they are not in the best position to let go of the wheel or take their eyes off the road, they will still reach for that knob to turn the radio up. It is not they feel the song is more important that a wreck, but they just do not think of that wreck happening by turning up the radio. Another form of distraction can be in the form of other teenage friends in the car. Typically, when teenagers get around each other there is horseplay or conversation that could lead to not paying close attention to the road.

2. Cell Phones: Teenagers are super glued to that cell phone. As if talking on a cell phone while driving was not dangerous enough, teenagers will actually text on their cell phones while driving. Texting requires, for the most part, looking at the keys to type a message and then send. How long are their eyes off the road before they end up rear-ending a car?

3. Calculated Risk does not exist. Teenagers often times feel they are invincible. This leads them to take greater risks while driving. Teenagers are known for speeding, cutting people off, racing other cars, and driving recklessly in general. Not every teen does this, but then again, there are instances to back this up, and that is what the insurance company looks at.

If you are not a teenager, and you are getting your license, they are going to see you as an inexperienced driver.
The introduction of satellite radio has been one of the biggest innovations in recent FM broadcasting history. This radio signal can be heard at a distances of thirty five thousand kilometers and beyond. That is more that twenty two miles with a clear reception, no static and more than one hundred stations to listen to. The inception of this concept was 1992 when the Federal Communications Commissions gave up the S band on the radio wave spectrum (2.3 GHz) to Digital Audio Radio Service. The companies that were initially given a license to broadcast on this spectrum were XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. Currently, there are three satellite radio services broadcasting around the world: XM and Sirius in North America and WorldSpace in Europe, Asia and Africa.

The three satellite radio companies each have a different system for broadcasting their signals. This means that a customer would end up buying specific equipment depending on what company they subscribe to. There are three parts to a satellite radio system: the ground repeaters, the satellites and the radio receivers. The XM satellite radio has satellites that are geographically located above the equator at all times. To combat the issue of obstacles such as hills, bridges and buildings, the XM radio service has a network of repeaters. These are antennas that get the signal from the satellites and transmit it to the subscriber's radio. The Sirrus radio service is set up a little differently. The satellites are elliptical in structure and they orbit the Earth. Because these satellites are on a higher level, the signal is usually clear and there is no need to have quite as many repeaters.

The satellite radio programmers are able to choose what music or program to fill air time. Many use CD's or have musicians come in to perform live. This sound is transmitted via a digital format. The signal is encoded by the satellite and then sent to the repeater antennae. The repeater moves it along to the subscriber's radio which decodes the signal and plays the sound. Satellite radio also utilizes digital compression which is a method of reducing a set amount of information into a bandwidth using complex algorithms. If you are a subscriber, you will have to purchase the correct equipment to get the signal.

The amount of people who subscribe to satellite radio has grown due to the improvements made to the technology. The appeal of the radio station has always been the fact that the radio doesn't depend on advertising to pay the bills, therefore the programs available are commercial free. <bio>Jason Allen is a staff writer at http://www.wireless-times.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.entertainment-digest.com. </bio>

Like cable television, Satellite radio is fast becoming a new genre of and unto itself. While not having to endure the same regulations as applied by the FCC in regards to free radio, the broadcasters of satellite radio, like cable television, have more options available to them and are able to offer a wider variety of programming as a direct result.

Satellite radio is the cable television of the radio broadcasting world. People can buy a satellite radio subscription in much the same manner that they would subscribe to cable television. The subscription includes various types of radio broadcasting not otherwise available to the listener. These usually include more adult-oriented radio broadcasting since the FCC does not regulate the industry in the same manner that they do for the free radio airwaves.

Since people are paying for the privilege of listening, and satellite radio is a buyer's market, the wide selection of broadcast media that is available are regulated mostly by what the listeners want and what they are willing to pay for. While satellite radio may not be a viable alternative for everyone, it does offer more listening opportunities for those people who are willing to pay for it. Satellite radio subscriptions vary in cost, but all things being equal, the subscription fees are not at all unattractive when the broad spectrum of radio programming is compared to what limited choices are available without satellite radio.

There are also still some limitations in the availability of satellite radio. While these areas are in steady decline as satellite radio listeners increase in numbers, there are still voids in the market where it is not yet financially feasible to install satellite radio options. It is best to check for the availability of satellite radio before purchasing any satellite ready receivers.

Satellite radio receivers vary in all manner of shape, style and output range and are available to fit the needs of most any satellite radio listener. Deciding which one is best for any given use will require the purchaser to do a little research into satellite radio and what local options are available, then adjusted according to the personal preferences of the listener.

While the advent of Satellite radio technology is seen as a new path to freedom for some and a road to decline for others, the satellite radio of today looks like it is here to stay. If satellite radio is available in your area, it can be a worthy investment. Satellite radio really does offer many options not available to the regular radio listener. <bio>Satellite Radio HQ http://satellite-radio-hq.com/ talks about the history of satellite radio, the equipment you'll need, the satellite radio channels you can receive and much more. </bio>

Nobody likes speeding tickets. The fines, the increased insurance premium, and the points on the license make police cars a much-feared sight. In spite of this, very few people don't speed.

To understand radar detectors, what they're detecting has to be understood, first. Radar guns are basically radio transmitters and receivers. The radio waves' frequency changes when it hits a moving car, and the amount of change to the radio wave is consistent with the car's speed: the faster the car, the greater the change to the radio wave. The radar gun converts the change to a relative speed: the difference between the police officer's speed and the target's speed. (Notice that if the police officer isn't moving, his speed is 0 mph, so the speed revealed by radar equals the target's speed and no math is needed.)

Police also use lidar, which uses the same principles as radar with infrared laser bursts instead of radio waves. This circumvents radar detectors and is highly focused. You almost have to be the target to detect it, in which case you're already caught. Though it can be used like the old radar, lidar is more common where the ticketing system is automated, where the detection of a speeding car activates a camera to catch the car's license plate, and a ticket is mailed to the offender.

Radar can be easily detected with a radio receiver comparable to your AM/FM radio but set to the frequency range used for radar. (Other frequency ranges happen to be full of such things as television broadcasts and distance automatic car openers.)

However, such a basic radar detector means that if you happen to be the first target when the police officer activates his or her radar gun, you're caught by the time the detector tells you about it. It's passive, alerting you to the use of radar in the area and nothing more. This is often enough, since radar spreads so much that you'll usually detect it before you're the target. Lidar, by contrast, is highly focused, so you'll probably be the target before you detect it. (A black car--which absorbs more light--and plastic covers for your license plate can decrease the lidar ability to detect you while not harming your detector range, which may give you enough time to slow down before your speed is detected.)

Active detectors jam the speed readings, interfering with the signal that reveals your speed. Radar jammers and lidar jammers exist, though the police are continuously advancing the technology to detect speeders. Any jammer can become obsolete at the turn of a hat, making the investment of a few hundred dollars abruptly worthless.

Warning: radar detectors themselves give off telltale radio frequencies that are detectable with a VG2 device. Radar and lidar detectors are illegal in some areas, making their owners liable to prosecution.

The ultimate way to avoid speeding tickets is simple and widely known: don't speed. But how many drivers actually follow that method? <bio>http://www.speedingdrives.com is a directory site that provides comprehensive resources on Radar/Laser Detectors, speed trap locations and how to fight a speeding ticket. </bio>

There are many ways that you can use a driver license scanner to your advantage. Even though you may never have to use one of these, there are some people who actually do so day in and day out. If you are not sure of what a driver license scanner can do for you, you may want to check out the benefits right away. Most people find out that there are many ways that they can use these to help them out. This goes for everybody from restaurants to small businesses.

One of the nicest things about a driver license scanner is that it can verify both driver licenses and other types of ID cards. These machines can do this by comparing data that is present on the card. Of course, if the data matches up the card is verified but if it does not it means that there is a problem somewhere.

Another benefit of a driver license scanner is that the process is pretty much automated. All you have to do is worry about loading the cards into the scanner, and the technology will take care of the rest. This makes it easy for you to scan quite a few driver licenses in a short amount of time. There is no reason to have to worry about doing one at a time just to make sure that the information is getting into the right place. With a high quality driver license scanner you know that you will be getting the job done right the first time.

All in all, you may find out that a driver license scanner can make things much easier on you. Although you may have to pay several hundred dollars for a driver license scanner, it could make your job easier. And everybody knows that time is money in the workplace! <bio>ScanShell Store offers solutions for ID and Driver license scanning, Portable scanners .
Internet radio is occasionally an overlooked feature of the Internet. The act of broadcasting music over the Internet in this way is referred to as streaming music and there are many stations that offer streaming over the Internet. You will often find that your favorite terrestrial station can be found online, but there are just as many radio stations that are transmitted solely over the Internet. One of the biggest benefits of Internet radio is that the data is transmitted over the Internet making it possible to listen to radio stations from all over the world. Expatriates find this particularly beneficial.

Similarly, though, it is also cheaper to produce music over the Internet and this means that smaller stations with a smaller fan base than mainstream radio requires are able to run their own radio station. This makes it perfect for those who like particular genres of music to find exactly what they are looking for.

Internet Talk Radio was the first ever Internet radio service and was established in 1993 and in 1995 the first radio service published only on the Internet was introduced -- Radio HK. Since then the number of stations opening on the Internet has increased dramatically. Peercasting, or P2P technology, makes it even easier to start an Internet radio station so it is likely that there will be even more stations in the near future.

Internet radio is perfect for people in small towns that are monopolized by only two or three radio stations and are forced to listen to one playlist of songs over and over. With internet radio the possibility of gaining access to music that a person likes is greatly increased.

Whether you are looking for radio broadcasts from countries miles away or you want to listen to one particular genre of music you can be virtually assured of finding a station that caters to your needs. You can even find chat stations that deal with one particular topic. The quality of sound and the quality of the programs distributed are both excellent. If you haven't tried Internet Radio before, you should try it now. About The Author: Lavinia Snider is the editor of internet Radio Guide. Find out everything about internet radio.
There are many ways to promote something you care about and to celebrate someone or something you love, but few ways are as unique, fun, and inexpensive as getting a license plate frame for your car.

It sounds funny at first, but think of how great having a unique license plate frame could be. One of the biggest reasons that most people decide to purchase a license plate frame is to promote an idea or an interest that they are passionate about. You can get a license plate frame customized about practically anything whether it is to save the whales or to give every child a chance to live. There are not many easier or more unoffensive ways to advertise your cares to the people around you than to use a license plate frame.

Many people also get a license plate frame to show support for their favorite team or their college alma mater. More inexpensive than customizing your actual license plate, buying a customized license plate frame will announce your loyalties to exactly the same amount of people.

Just think about how often you drive your car around town and on trips. Your unique license plate frame will be seen by a variety of people every time you drive. If you're tired of seeing people protest for or against their favorite causes in ways that are harmful and offensive, consider protesting the things you care about in harmless and silent way. You will have to do nothing except drive in order to celebrate and advertise loud enough for many people to see.

Another great thing about personalizing a license plate frame is that it is a less permanent and less messy option than attaching a bumper sticker to your car. Using a license plate frame instead gives you the flexibility to change it or remove it at any time. If you think about all of the ways you could choose to celebrate and support a team or a cause, a license plate frame is one of the most inexpensive ways to do it. There is no need (unless of course you want to) to buy clothing, flags, or other means of advertising. Simply find a store near you and get your license plate frame made in little time at all.

A license plate frame can also symbolize the place you came from or your favorite place to travel. With a little bit of creative thinking, a license plate frame can be made to display almost anything at all. You can even go the extreme of having a license plate frame customized to fit every season of the year or to celebrate specific events or holidays.

Whatever you desire to celebrate, promote, or advertise, consider the benefits of a customized, unique license plate frame and get yours today. <bio>Belina Storrey has been promoting and celebrating her favorite things for years with license plate frames.
Lately specialty license plates are one of the coolest items in several areas around the nation, and it is not so hard to see why. Think about it. No matter what model your car is, any other driver on the road has, in all likelihood, seen hundreds if not thousands of the same car in his or her lifetime. However with custom license plates, it does not matter because you can be recognized anyway. If you have an exclusive and clever license plate, then you will be at the very least the only one in your state to get noticed with that particular message. Now tell me who does not want to be noticed? I sure know that I do.

One of my favorite license plates is the one where the letters form unusual patterns. It went something like "wvwvwvw" once. Now when I think back on this vanity license plate, perhaps whoever got it, did so just to baffle the cops, but still, it was pretty cool. What are even cooler these days are that you can use in some states - custom front plates. Where I live - in California, the law requires you to have the same state issued license plates on both the front as well as the back of your car or truck, but in several places this is not the case. You can actually choose to have anything you want as your front license plate, and that is where you can let your creativity run wild and have a lot of fun.

Among my favorite front license plates are the ones representing your favorite brand of something. In fact I particularly like license plates that advertise the kind of car that they are on. Who knows, for instance, why you are driving that Ford. Perhaps you love it or because you inherited it from your aunt when she passed away, or just simply because you got a fantastic deal on it. However if you put custom license plates that say "Ford" on the front of it, everyone will know that you are driving that car because it is your dream car, and their respect for you will go way up. Sure, everyone loves a woman or a man who reaches out and takes just what they want, someone who is decisive and an achiever, and specialty license plates can let everyone know that that is just what you are. Surely, there is no substitute for that kind of publicity. <bio>Ernest R.
If you want to become a helicopter pilot and make a career out of it, the first thing you should do is to enroll at a helicopter training school. In this way, you will be equipped with the right skill and both basic and advance knowledge of the aircraft you are planning to fly. After finishing the course, you are eligible to apply for a license. After acquiring the license, you can call yourself a helicopter pilot.

But as simple as it sounds, becoming a helicopter pilot is way too complicated than taking the course and acquiring a license.

To better understand this, consider the following...

Before enrolling for a helicopter-training course, make sure you have enough finances to finish it. This is a long-term commitment that involves a lot of money (ranging from $20,000 to $45,000) and therefore, must be planned properly. One shortage or missed training hours could mean bigger expenses. It is painful both on you and your pocket to realize that you are 20 hours short of finishing the course after you realize that you are out of resources to continue, so make sure that once you enter, you can finish.

Before enrolling for a helicopter-training course, you should also know if you are fit or not. It is useless to go and complete the training if you cannot acquire for a license. Read on the specifics about the medical requirement of becoming a helicopter pilot before anything else. If you feel you are fit, validate it by doing a research.

Before enrolling for a helicopter-training course, make a research on the different helicopter training schools. You can prioritize the location since cost of relocation is too much. It would be better if you choose a school that is near your place so that you don't need to relocate. Also consider the cost of the training.

Once you have finished the training and after acquiring a Helicopter License, you can now be called a helicopter pilot. One thing to note is that there are two kinds of helicopter pilot license: Private Helicopter License and Commercial License. The training is different. Of course, the Commercial License is much thorough. Think of this: we have a professional and non-professional driving license which is relatively the same with the Private Helicopter License and Commercial License. And one thing more: if you plan to make it a living, salary is not worth that much, but with more experience and better skill, you can get paid big-time. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
My satellite radio is just about the best toys that I bought myself in a long time. No more spending the majority of my driving time switching between stations, with a satellite radio, I can choose exactly what I want, when I want it.

The units that receive the satellite signal in the home are rather limited but the ones for the car, well that's another story. Here are some tips for selecting satellite radio for your car.

Buying an after market radio that has a satellite receiver built in is the easiest way to add satellite radio to your car in my opinion. My husband went the route of adding a simple satellite receiver to his existing radio. The drawback was, not only did it take awhile to install it came out messy.

Aftermarket radios, can be purchased to bring in just the satellite signal, AM/FM radio stations, CD or it can come, as I selected, with all three built in.

When traveling on a trip, I found this was the most convenient as I could keep up with local happenings with my regular radio but when I wanted crystal clear tunes, I had my CD or Satellite radio to choose from.

One of the things that people mistakenly think about satellite radio is that all you have to buy is the monthly subscription to enjoy commercial free satellite radio. The fact is you do have to consider the cost of your subscription AND the cost of your satellite radio AND the cost of a professional installation. In most cases this amount can easily add up to a few hundred dollars.

By far the least expensive way to get started with satellite radio is to add one of those add on radios, like my husband bought. You can buy one for about $100 dollars and although the installation will take some time, it sis nothing that most people can't do themselves.

Some don't require installation at all, all you need is something called the FM modulator to be located near the FM radio in your car, IT will do the rest. This is a great solution if you just want to try satellite radio or if you change cars often.

So you can get started for as little as $100 dollars but for a mid to top of the line radio, expect to pay between $300 and $500 plus installation, and worth every penny! <bio>Holly Dodd writes for and publishes a number of consumer oriented websites like: http://www.My-Satellite-Radio-Review.info, she can also be found at http://www.blog.freeofferguide.com </bio>

If you're not familiar with HD Radio, it's the hot digital technology that's being pushed by radio broadcasters as the next big thing and the savior of terrestrial radio.

The Good

First, the good news. HD Radio does sound better than regular radio. In fact, HD AM sounds almost as good as FM radio, and FM sounds almost as bright, clear and interference free as if you were listening to a CD. And because HD is digital, broadcasters can squeeze more signals into the same frequency. This allows them to broadcast different programs on what they're calling HD2 channels. For example, an oldies station could program contemporary CandW on its normal frequency, and old-time CandW on its HD2 channel.

More good news is that fact that, depending on who you believe, there are now either 1,300 to1,500 stations in the U.S. that are broadcasting HD Radio.

The difference? It's that he HD Radio Alliance claims there are 1,500 HD stations, but the FCC has only 1,300 licenses on file.

The bad news

While HD Radio may sound great and while there at least 1,300 stations broadcasting HD Radio, you can't hear them. That is, not unless you purchase an HD radio. And HD radios tend to be expensive. There is only one, inexpensive, entry-level tabletop available, the Radiosophy HD100 at $99.95. The next step up is RadioShack's Accurian HD Radio, which usually sells for about $199 and a Sony unit at $199.95. Beyond that, there is the Sangean HDR-1 with a manufacturer's suggested retail of $249, and then it's pretty much into the stratosphere of $300-plus.

Want HD radio in your car? The situation there is even worse. There are very few HD car radios available and most of them are only tuners and must be connected to your existing factory radio =96 an ugly solution at best.

The ugliest part of th HD2 channels is that the programming =96at least so far =96 is hardly good enough or creative enough to warrant buying a HD radio.

What makes it ugly is that the broadcaster could be using HD2 channels to do something really exciting as broadcasters have in Great Britain, where digital radio has just skyrocketed. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., most broadcasters have chosen to use their HD2 channels as just "variations on a theme," or variations of their regular programming (see rock station example, above).

So, what's the future of HD Radio? At this point, it doesn't seem great, especially when you compare it to satellite and Internet radio. But as they used to say, "stay tuned for more" because it could get brighter. <bio>Douglas Hanna is the editor and publisher of the highly popular website, http://www.hd-radio-home.com, which he believes is the Internet's number one site for fair and balanced news about HD radio. He is a long-time radio listener and unabashed radio fan who has been following HD Radio for more than two years. </bio>

CB radio service began in United States during the 1940's as short radio communications for business and personal use. Their popularity grew in the 1960's, with small traders and service people using them. In the '70s, technological advancements promoted the usage of CB radio services. CB slang terms and codes gradually evolved, with truckers using their own codes to send alerts to their counterparts.

FCC Rules And Regulations

The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) regulates CB radio service. Initially, CB radio services were in the UHF band between 460 to 470 MHz. Two classes of CB radios--Class A and Class B--were popular. Class B types were simpler, but limited to smaller frequency ranges. The FCC restricts the frequency allocation.

Any individual can operate a CB in the United States. However, foreign nationals are not eligible to operate them. There are 40 authorized CB channels, and anyone can utilize any of these channels (except channel 9, which is meant for emergency call transmission). The channels are operated on a shared basis; there are no territorial limits for CB radio operations within or outside of the United States, except those restricted territorial limits.

The FCC requires an individual to use certified equipment; further modifications aren't allowed. The output power is restricted to four watts for an AM transmitter, while up to 12 watts of output power is allowed on a single sideband transmitter (SSB). The antennas should not go beyond 20 feet from the point of mounting and not beyond 60 feet from the ground level.

The FCC takes strict action against people who violate their rules and regulations, and also those who use modified equipment. Severe actions are taken against illegal users operating in the range of 26MHz and 30MHz. Even retailers are o't spared if caught selling non-type approved equipment.

GMRS Bands

Additional radio frequency bands have been given permission to operate. Located in the band of 460 to 470 MHz, it is called General Mobile Radio Service, or the GMRS, and requires a license. In addition to this, the FCC has opened a microwave band of frequency at 31 GHz, which also requires a valid license.

Restricted Channels

All 40 channels can be used; however, some channels are devoted for special purposes. As already mentioned, channel 9 is meant for emergency calling services. Channel 17 is the unofficial trucker channel; truckers communicate traffic problems and other emergency needs on channel 19. Channels 30 to 40 are allocated for single sideband services.

Over and out! <bio>http://www.information-finders.com http://www.computer-electronic-news.com </bio>

License plates are the backbone of the automotive industry. Not only do license plates identify each individual car from state to state but they are also some of the most popular collector items in the United States. Each state has its own design, layout and state slogan on the plates. Some states require a plate on the front and the back of the car and some states only require one plate on the car, usually in the back. The plates are usually metallic or plastic and contain a numeric or alphanumeric code that the police use to identify each vehicle on the roadways.

Every vehicle on the road must have a license plate, as required by United States law, including commercial vehicles, motorcycles and some golf carts. When vehicle owners sell their vehicles they must remove the license plates from the car. The new owner of the car has to register for new plates, or tags, with the Division of Motor Vehicles. In the United States, New York became the first state to require vehicles to have license plates beginning in 1901. The catch was that the state did not issue plates; the vehicles owners had to make their own plates and attach them to the car.

The first two states to require license plates on vehicles and issue them to the vehicle owners were Massachusetts and West Virginia in 1903. Standard plates, of definitive sizes, were first issued in 1957 for every vehicle across the country. Their standard size is 12 by 6 inches.

In the United States there are a variety of different plates to cover a variety of different vehicles. Those plates are used for classic/historic cars, commercial vehicles, government vehicles, fire trucks, police cars, tractor trailers, buses, farm equipment, a veteran driver, a handicapped driver and volunteer firefighters.

Aside from there being certain plates for certain vehicles, there are also vanity plates for cars. Vanity plates are specialized plates designed by the vehicle owner. All 50 states and the District of Columbia provide drivers with the option of designing their own vanity plates for a cost higher than regular license plates. Vanity plates are used for a person's name, their pet, their favorite vacation spot, their favorite team or athlete, or a favorite saying.

Other vanity plates can have team logos and team designs. Some can be purchases to benefit a charity such as a local animal shelter or to help cure cancer. Optional plates include amateur radio, Eagle Scout, DARE, rotary club and prisoner of war.

If required by law to have two license plates on a vehicle, the driver of the car can be ticketed for not having two license plates on their vehicle. License plates can be ordered from the Division of Motor Vehicles or the Motor Vehicle Commission, which are run by each individual state. In the District of Columbia license plates are issued by the city government. License plates do not cost all that much unless the owner wishes to purchase vanity plates.<bio>Charleston Car RentalsSouth Carolina Rentals</bio>
