The Pomeranian breed originated in Lapland and Greenland, with the Spitz sled dogs. The dogs were imported to Europe through Pomerania, where they were bred to a smaller scale. Queen Victoria of Britain in the late 1800s contributed not only to the breed's popularity but also to the development of the breed. The queen kept over 30 Pomeranians at one time and diminished the size of the breed beyond what earlier breeders had accomplished.

Pomeranians have inspired classical music and artwork over the years. They appeal as much to royalty and celebrities as to everyday people who admire the Pomeranian's spunky personality.

It's hard to believe it, but the tiny Pomeranian descended from the Spitz sled dogs in Lapland and Greenland. Before the Pomeranian was bred down to a smaller size, the larger dogs worked as shepherds. Indeed, it is not difficult to imagine today's Pomeranian yapping around the edges of a herd of sheep.

Pomeranians got their name because they were imported into Europe through Pomerania, a land on the southern Baltic coast where present day Germany and Poland now sit. In Pomerania, the dogs were bred down closer to their modern-day size. It took many generations of Pomeranians to reduce the twenty-pound dog of the 19th century to the four to six-pound standard of the breed today. The Kennel Club in England recognized the breed in 1870, calling it the "spitz dog." Traces of the Pomeranian's lineage can be seen in its coat and color, which are reminiscent of the wolf spitz breed.

One of the best known Pomeranian owners in history was Queen Victoria of England, who ruled between 1819 and 1901. Queen Victoria first saw the dog as a girl, when her mother, Queen Charlotte kept one as a pet. Queen Victoria got Marco, a Pomeranian of her own, in 1888.

The English royal family had then, and has now, a keen interest in breeding horses and dogs. Queen Victoria applied this enthusiasm for breeding to the Pomeranian, at one time keeping 35 Pomeranian dogs. The monarch is credited with further reducing the size of the Pomeranian through her efforts. Her show Pomeranians =96 Fluffy, Nino, Mino, Beppo, Gilda and Lulu, competed in many dog shows and won at least two championships. According to her biographers, in 1901, from her deathbed, the Queen asked for her pet Pomeranian Turi, who was brought to her and remained at her side until she died.

Besides appealing to royalty, through the decades the Pomeranian has also been a favorite of a variety of artists and celebrities. Perhaps the most famous artist in history, Michelangelo, painted the Sistine Chapel with his Pomeranian at his side.

Actresses love Pomeranians. Kate Hudson has one; Cindy Williams who will always be remembered as Shirley in "Laverne and Shirley," appeared in weight loss advertisements with her Pomeranian. And the best-known canine television star of the 1980s was Chester, who co-starred with his real-life owner Fran Drescher in "The Nanny."

If you believe Sir Isaac Newton's account of what caused his nervous breakdown, then you believe that a Pomeranian can drive a person mad. Newton's Pomeranian, Diamond, upset a candle that burned some of Newton's important work papers, and he had a nervous breakdown because of the stress.

Pomeranians inspire their owners. The composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dedicated one of his arias to his Pomeranian and Chopin wrote a piece for a Pomeranian that belonged to his girlfriend.

Pomeranians aren't just for royals and celebrities. This confident, intelligent, breed will make a great pet for anyone who loves small dogs and wants a loyal, attentive companion. <bio>Rosie Allan is a writer and lecturer on breeding of dogs in the toy group. The http://www.officialpomeranianguide.com/ Pomeranian, a favorite of royalty, is a descendant of the Spitz sled dogs. Queen Victoria of England, who once had 35 Pomeranians, made the dog popular in England in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Helpful http://www.officialpomeranianguide.com/Pomeranian.php Pomeranian information such as that found here is also available at libraries and through the American Kennel Club. </bio>

If you're a history buff, The Pirate Queen tickets will introduce you to an historical figure that is largely and unfortunately overlooked in many American-taught world history classes. Grace O'Malley was a true heroine for many reasons and by way of many pursuits, and The Pirate Queen is a mesmerizing look at her amazing life of struggle and triumph.

The Story

The Pirate Queen is a biography of Grace O'Malley, an Irish hero who lived during the late 16th and early 17th Centuries. This was a turbulent time in world history, as Queen Elizabeth I of England had grown increasingly uneasy in regards to the relative instability of Ireland's government, and England began to assert its authority over Ireland. This was the beginning of a struggle that in some ways continues to this day, and the very reason that The Pirate Queen tickets are worth the effort to obtain.

Given that historical setting, it appears now that O'Malley was destined to ultimately cross paths with the queen as a result of her own life. O'Malley was born in 1530, and her family had a long tradition of making their living as prominent seafarers. Grace was always interested in the ways of the sea, but as was custom at the time, she was arranged in marriage, and this was to take place when Grace was 15.

Grace went through with the marriage and had three children. However, her husband was part of a warring faction, and he was ultimately killed in battle. As a result, local warriors turned towards Grace for guidance and leadership, even though Gaelic law prohibited women from holding such positions of power.

The faction that had killed her husband had taken over the castle he was defending, but Grace led a legion of soldiers and retook the castle, thereby renaming it "Hen's Castle," a name which is still in place today. Her extreme bravery and cunning led many to follow her into a life of mercenary battles.

Ultimately, Grace remarried, and her destiny-determined foe, Queen Elizabeth and England, together with several Irish barons, began to encroach on Ireland. Grace and her soldiers fought valiantly for freedom from the crown, but ultimately too many forces against her united and her territory was overrun by a baron with a specific vendetta against Grace.

Grace's son was captured, and Grace decided to go over the local baron's head and directly to Queen Elizabeth I herself. This meeting remains the stuff of legend, and the ultimate conclusion of this life of seafaring and battling is something to behold on stage.

If you want to see how this historical tale plays out, you need to secure The Pirate Queen tickets, as this story is one that needs to be told for several reasons. <bio>By Jay Nault, sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/.
I'm a great reader of mystery fiction from England, Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie and the rest of the queens of crime. They always reference the furniture in classic terms...but what do they really mean?

When you chat with a home decorator about the various styles that have been popular throughout the years, you hear a lot of terminology that you might not be too familiar with, or that you've only read about in books.

These classic styles are old - from 500 years onward - but there is an old saying... everything old is new again, much as with clothing styles. Any of these styles can be combined with the more modern styles to create wonderful living spaces.

In this article I discuss classic styles from England and France.

Styles from England The Renaissance style from Italy didn't reach England until about 100 years after they'd already had their day in Italy...arriving during Tudor and Elizabethan times. (Tudor times start from Henry VII, who obtained the throne in 1485, and Elizabethan times started when Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1558, and ended with her death in 1603).

These styles are identified by its furniture:

Queen Anne (1702-1714): The furniture created in this decade featured curvilinear design and Oriental influence.

Georgian (named after King George): Again, those classical details from Greece and Rome, influenced these designs. (In actual fact, Rome borrowed its designs from the Greeks.)

Chippendale (name of a furniture maker): : This furniture was designed to a generous scale - the Chippendale chairs are considered more "masculine" than the Queen Anne chairs.

Hepplewhite and Sheraton: These two furniture makers were competitors fro a time. Their furniture was made from 1775 to 1800. Hepplewhite featured "Well-scaled" chairs with a distinctive shield-shaped backs, while Sheraton furniture is delicate, with "neoclassic elements and design motifs."

Adam is in the reference books, but I've never heard it described in the classic cozy English murder mysteries that I read so avidly. However, their furniture is described as "finely designed, delicately scaled, and elaborately detailed." The colors are their most distinctive feature - dulled blue, pale yellow-green light grey, and lavender.

The Victorian period, named after Queen Victoria, of course, started the trend toward factory-made, rather than hand-made furniture, thus making it affordable to the newly arising middle class.

Styles from France Louis XIV: Characterized by large-scale furniture, lots and lots of ornamentation, and a strong color contrast.

Regency: According to experts, this style lasted from 1700-1730. Economy of design was the watchword, graceful scrolls and curves.

Louis XV: "Feminine, sentimental and delicate" is how the experts describe this style. The rooms were smaller, and the furniture that went into them was correspondingly smaller. There's also an Oriental influence to be found.

Louis XVI, also called Neoclassic, was popular from 1760-1789. The styles of the ancient Greeks and Romans were revived.

The Empire style came into use during the Napoleonic era, 1804-1820. As might be expected, it's a very masculine style, as Napoleon wanted to reflect the military - Egyptian motifs and Roman allegorical influences. <bio>Andrew Caxton is the editor of many articles on cottage furniture published at http://www.home-decorating-reviews.com .
Huddersfield sits at the confluence of the rivers Colne and Holme, whose waters and valleys have drawn people to the area for thousands of years. In common with much of Northern England it has been inhabited or settled at one time or another by Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age man, Ancient Britons, Romans, Angles, Jutes and Saxons as well as by conquering Norsemen and Normans.

Set out in any direction from the town centre and you can be sure that you will be treading on ground traversed by our earliest forbears, Roman Legions, Pictish raiders, Viking invaders, and Saxon kings -- there was once a Saxon court at Almondbury.

Castle Hill near Huddersfield together with its Victoria Tower is unquestionably the town's most recognizable landmark. The castle in question was the one built on the hill near Almondbury in the reign of King Stephen (1135-1154) but demolished two centuries later. Construction work on Victoria Tower, built to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Victoria, was completed in 1899 (in the 62nd year of her reign). However, these facts are not what makes Castle Hill so valuable.

The true importance of Castle Hill is found in the remains of its 2,500 year old, Iron Age hill fort, itself probably built on even earlier settlements, and it is this rather than the more conspicuous 19th century addition that lends the site its status as Scheduled Ancient Monument as well as its true historic value.

Although Huddersfield and its surrounding area is thought to have been continuously settled for at least the last 4,000 years, the expansion and prosperity of the town is owed principally to its proto-industrial and industrial past. Huddersfield was above all a Georgian and Victorian construct and this legacy is visible wherever you go, evidenced by canals, converted textile mills, Victorian shopping arcades and the fine architecture of St George's Square and beyond.

Before the arrival of the industrialists however, the district of Huddersfield was variously a patchwork of linked settlements, a baronial manor ruled over by the King's Tenant-in-Chief, a centre for the wool trade and a market town by Royal Charter. When the machine age was born, the area became a focus for the Luddite rebellion spreading up from Nottinghamshire and became infamous through the murder of a local manufacturer. <bio>Paul Theato manages CityLocal Huddersfield http://www.citylocal.co.uk/cities/Huddersfield - Huddersfield http://www.citylocal.co.uk/cities/Huddersfield/business/All Huddersfield Business Directory http://www.citylocal.co.uk/frontend/cinemas.php?cityid=124 Huddersfield Cinema Guide and Listings </bio>

The first ever Victoria's Secret Garden scent I smelled was Endless Love. Since that first time, I have fallen in love with this line of body lotions. I have always had problems when it came to choosing a scent that would suit me and that would last for at least an hour. When I first tried Victoria's Secret, I knew that I had found a keeper.

You can use the body lotion any time you wish but I think the most effective way is to use it right after you take a bath or a shower. That way, your skin is clean and no dirt or grit will ruin the feel of your skin. The body lotion really smoothens your skin. With continuous use you will see the effect even more.

The scents add another dimension to the body lotions. If you really like the particular scent, you will appreciate the fact that they stay on for a long long time. My original criterion was that the scent last for at least an hour. I got at least 5 times as much as that. Even if you engage in physical activities and sweat a bit, the scent is not totally lost.

The Silkening Body Lotions come in different bottle sizes. You can also find them in tubes. The packaging is quite appealing to eyes. Personally, I prefer the tubes. If you use it often -- as you most probably would -- an 8.0 ounce bottle will probably last for a month or so.

My problem is that out of the whole line, there are only a couple of scents that I like. These are Endless Love and Vanilla Lace. All the other scents are either too fruity or too sweet for my taste.

Another thing is that for everyday use, these products do not come cheaply. However, Victoria's Secret stores usually have promos wherein you can get a several bottles for a low price. Online stores also offer a wide array of scents with reasonable prices. The smart thing to do is to grab several bottles of your favorite scent and stock up on them when you chance upon a sale.

If you are looking for a body lotion that markedly improves your skin's texture, then try one of the many Victoria's Secret Garden Silkening Body Lotions. In addition to supple skin, you will end up smelling lovely throughout most of the day. <bio>For more information please visit http://www.444.net </bio>

The words rang out loud and clear. "The queen is coming! The Queen is coming!" The crowd fell silent as they saw the queen. Her clothing was simply magnificent: a gorgeous flowing gown of satin of the latest fashion. Beads, pearls, and priceless gems had been added to the dress, making it look absolutely breathtaking. Then, a man in the crowd noticed that the queen was nearing a huge mud puddle! The queen had not noticed it, and continued to walk closer...and closer to the dirt and water mixture. The man quickly removed his cloak, ran towards the queen, and spread the clothing over the muddle. Who is this man? Legend has it his name is Sir Walter Raleigh. The story of Sir Walter Raleigh's gallantry has become a legend, but no solid historical evidence exists to prove it ever happened! However, Elizabeth I certainly ruled England during the 16th and the 17th centuries, and the Hotel Manchester Renaissance pays tribute to her era.

Elizabeth's Era Elizabeth I was arguably the most famous woman during England's Renaissance period. In fact, the period is often referred to as the "Elizabethan era." During her reign, she successfully defeated the armadas of Spain. She also encouraged literature to flourish and nurture the likes of William Shakespeare. In addition, many other areas such as science, architecture, and exploration experienced much progress. In fact, the U.S. state of Virginia was named after Elizabeth I, who was referred to as the "Virgin Queen." More recently, the film "Shakespeare in Love" featured Elizabeth I, while "Elizabeth" was exclusively dedicated to her life. Queen Elizabeth is also present in video games, such as "Age of Empires III," which, if she were living today, she might have played or endorsed. If you visit Manchester today, staying in the Hotel Manchester Renaissance will allow you to observe firsthand Elizabeth I's influence on British society.

Live History Though Elizabeth I passed away over four hundred years ago, the influence on her nation and the world can still be witnessed today. In addition, Manchester contains several tourist attractions that preserve the spirit of the past.

* The Beeston Castle was built in the 13th century after an Earl of Chester returned from the Crusades.

* Manchester Town Hall, a huge Victorian Gothic-inspired hall, is located in the center of Albert Square.

* The Peel Towers are ancient structures that were built along the borders of England and Scotland.

* The Manchester Art Gallery is the city's premiere gallery, with several works from the distant past.

* Tatton Park includes a house built in the late 18th century, and land that was used to train paratroopers during World War II.

* Manchester Cathedral, with parts constructed from the 1400s, is located in the center of Manchester city.

* The Nether Alderley Mill is a 1400s watermill that was used until the 1930s.

Although younger than other locations, the Hotel Manchester Renaissance provides outstanding old-fashioned customer service.

A Hotel and History Located in scenic Manchester, the Hotel Manchester Renaissance overlooks locations that remind one of times long past, including the Elizabethan era.
Know any Twins. Then imagine they're one person and you'll have an idea of what makes up the personality of a person born under the sign of Gemini (May 22 =96 June 21). Geminis can be contradictory, people with dualities to their nature that can perplex their friends, families and lovers. They love versatility and change, but can be flighty and mutable to create interest in their lives. They don't like routine. Decisionmaking can be difficult for them and they can often change their minds http://www.eziness.info

In the Zodiac Great Year, the Age of Gemini occurred from about 6450-4300 BCE. It was a time when writing and accounting systems were developed and humans were beginning to trade with one another.

Geminis are kind, affectionate and generous, so long as this doesn't impact their own lives and comfort systems too much. They have a strong intellect and love mental challenges. They catch on to new ideas quickly. They have an analytical side and can see both sides to an issue.

If you're a Gemini, you have some interesting company in your birth sign. Some of the famous Geminis include President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, Henry Kissinger, Joe Namath and Paul McCartney. Many members of royal families were born under the sign of Gemini, too. Queen Victoria, King George V and Prince William, all of England, were or are Geminis.

Boredom is a big issue for Geminis and they can get into trouble looking for some excitement. But they're very creative and active and should have outlets for all this energy like artistic projects or exercise or vigorous sports like racquetball. Because they're always looking for new and interesting experiences, they can tend to overindulge in food or drink or night life and club-hopping. Geminis need to remember to pace themselves or they could risk burning themselves out too early in life. <bio>http://www.directmails.info </bio>

It happens every day in the workplace. Those "sticky dilemmas." You encounter them all the time in marketing =85 like the CEO who wants to do his own TV spot when he is not only unattractive (that could be fixed) but comes off as deceptive in front of the camera (that would take a long time to fix).

How did I know? When you're a PR account executive, it's your job to know.

Is it your job to say so?

Well you aren't going to find this in the textbook. It's about emotional intelligence (EQ) and etiquette. It helps to learn the theory and how to apply it, because no textbook, no coach, can possibly anticipate all the surprises you will encounter even in one day.

The video of the latest multicultural blunder, when US photographer Annie Liebovitz asked the Queen of England to remove her crown in a photography session can be found on youtube.com. Some are labeling it "the BBC's groveling apology."

I don't agree that it's a "groveling" apology, I thought I was in order. The tape was grossly misleading. The scene implies she stormed out. It is, instead, tape of her arrival. That's the media for you.

That having been said, if you were photographing the Queen of England, would you tell her to take off her crown? In a line too good to have been scripted, the Queen replies, "What do you think this is?"

Quite a multicultural SNAFU here. Annie Leibovitz, hired to photograph the Queen, asks her to remove the crown (ever how nicely), telling her it would be more "casual." Well, yes, that it would.

And British commentators are quick to tell us that every Brit would know it wasn't a crown in the first place, it was a tiara. The crown is a little hard to miss. Why quibble. In any situation, with any person, there is simply "going too far," and that's what happened here.

This sort of sticky dilemma comes up every day in the workplace. Actually at home, too (Do you think these pants make my butt look fat?)

Quick Quiz:

1. You've been asked by the lawyer you work for to critique his jury summary. It stinks. What do you say?

2. Your secretary's body odor is so bad you can't stand to be in the same room with her.

3. Would you edit the CEO's article for grammar? For content? His opinion that "no Asian woman can be trusted with=85"?

4. Give negative feedback about anything to a "superior"? Even if it's your job? Even if you've been requested to?

5. Ask your Middle Eastern visitor to remove his head covering in the presence of the ladies?

6. Tell them you don't go to strip clubs, even if it's the fantastic dream corporation taking you out to court you for your dream job?

7. No on will go to the CFO's office. He's asking you why. Do you tell him that it's because he picks his nose in public?

8. Inform your boss that you find her cleavage and spandex unprofessional as well as tasteless?

9. Ask your French Moroccan printer if he'd like some bacon? Ask him if you can bring your wife along for the evening?

10. Ask someone in your office to quit swearing?

TAKE HOME POINTS

(1)These dilemmas come up all the time. As we become more global, it's going to get worse. There area host of things you can do, innocently, that may offend the person you're dealing with, that it would sure help if you knew about beforehand, from the dignitary whose wife has just died to the Asian who doesn't want a dozen anything for his thank you gift.

(2)There are many chances for misrepresentation, not just from the media. Check out the facts before you jump to conclusions. Use your common sense. The Queen of England would no more "storm out" of a room than your CEO would walk out of his office if you offended him. Would your secretary, who has proven herself to be honest and faithful over time, botch a document just to get overtime, like the gossipy paralegal whose been written up before is claiming?

(3) Don't like the protocol? Think it's silly? They don't. That tiara happens to be a symbol for the monarchy.

Etiquette and emotional intelligence are important to you personal and professoinal success for some many reasons! Besides, they made the world a nicer place. <bio>Susan Dunn, Coach, www.susandunn.cc. ndividual and business coaching, Internet courses and ebooks. Etiquette, internet dating.
When it comes to mattresses, most people think bigger is better. The largest mattress you can buy varies depending on what part of the world you happen to be in. In the United States, aside from a custom made mattress, the largest standard mattress you can get is a California king size mattress. Bigger is better is not necessarily inaccurate; however, many bedrooms will not fit a California king size mattress or even a regular king size mattress. In these cases, a queen size mattress may be the answer to your problems.

There are five standard mattress sizes: twin (also known as single), full, queen, king and California king. A twin mattress is generally used for children because a twin mattress does not really provide enough space for two adults to sleep comfortably. In order to get a proper night of rest, you need to have enough space to roll and turn throughout the night. The dimensions of a twin bed are only 39 inches wide by 75 inches long.

The Real Difference Between a King and a Queen

A queen size mattress and a king size mattress are both 80 inches in length. This makes the two mattress sizes hard to tell apart, and many people are not sure which is bigger between a queen size mattress and a king size mattress. To make matters worse, the standard mattress widths are not always kept by mattress manufacturers. Custom cut mattresses can be bigger or smaller than standard dimensions specify. A standard queen size mattress should measure in at 60 inches in width. On the other hand, a king size mattress should measure 76 inches wide. However, a custom cut queen size mattress may actually be cut wider than a standard king size mattress. In general, a queen size mattress should be smaller than a king size mattress, though.

What to Look for in a Queen Size Mattress

Due to its size, a queen size mattress can often fit into bedrooms that are too small for a king size mattress while retaining the comfort space that a sleeping couple requires. Both people will need an adequate amount of space to fall asleep and provide for tossing and turning space.

When shopping for any mattress, you need to consider what type of mattress foundation you are looking for, such as coil springs, foam, water or air. Other considerations should include the comfort and firmness of the mattress or the amount of padding provided. A long lasting warranty is important, as well, and the longer the warranty, the higher the quality of the mattress. <bio>Find more Helpful [http://www.mattressesonsalenow.com/] Mattress tips, advice (and Resources) Click Here: http://www.mattressesonsalenow.com

A Popular website that specializes in Sources of Mattresses to include Mattress Cover, How to Clean a Mattress and [http://mattressesonsalenow.com/mattress-size.html] Mattress Size </bio>

Vacations to Pitlochry are becoming increasingly popular not only with those who live in the UK but from around the world as well. Certainly as Pitlochry vacations go, there is plenty for one to do and see whilst spending time in an area renowned for its stunning scenery.

The town of Pitlochry itself retains much of its old Victorian charm and is situated in the Perthshire Highlands. In fact, this town has been a very popular vacation spot for more than 100 years now and this is all down to the fact that Queen Victoria chose to spend time here in 1844.

Although it was a popular location with visitors from around the UK after the visit of Queen Victoria, the town prior to this was well known. During the 18th Century, it was here that flax was being grown and the town was producing high quality linen in their mills. In fact right through the 1700 and 1800, this town was a hive of activity.

Along with the linen weaving, the city was renowned for its whisky that was being distilled at the Blair Atholl Whisky Distillery. Then in 1835, the first water powered wool mills were opened by the MacNaughton family and here raw wool was made into Tweed.

Another thing for which the town of Pitlochry is famous for is its highland games and it was here in 1852 the first modern version of these took place. Today these games are still played and each year they are the last ones to be held in Scotland. The actual site where the games take place is located only a short distant from the main street in Pitlochry and in 2008 they will take place on the 13th September.

Along with all the traditional kinds of games, you would expect at such an event other ones have been included as well. Today they now include tug of war competitions as well as highland dancing and pipe band competitions also. So you are likely to find something to watch and enjoy through the days events.

As well as arranging, your trip to Pitlochry in order to take in the highland games there is plenty more for one to do and see whilst there. Along with these games, there are other festivals that one can enjoy such as the Autumn Festival or the Winter Words Festival.

So you do not have to restrict your Pitlochry vacations solely to summer months when the weather is good. As long as you bring some warm clothing and something to protect you from the rain then you can visit this part of Scotland at any time of the year. In fact, you may find a much more warm welcome when you visit the area during the cold dark winter months even more than you would expect to find in the summer.

There are plenty of hotels and guest houses in Pitlochry, so you are sure to be able to find somewhere that fits your budget. Be sure to book ahead if you are staying at a popular time and you'll be sure to enjoy a warm Scottish welcome.<bio>Make sure to choose your Pitlochry hotel from this extensive list of Pitlochry accommodation.</bio>

Cape Town was originally a stop off port for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India and the Far East, and grew quickly as a result. With its spectacular location and so much to do, it is a must visit destination.

Victoria and Alfred Waterfront

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is located between Table Mountain and Robben Island. Originally built by Prince Alfred (son of Queen Victoria), it is in the heart of the historic harbor, and is now home to a diverse range of shops, and lots of entertainment.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens feature 36 hectares of cultivated gardens. The gardens have been cultivated since 1913 =96 when the government was bequeathed the land. The gardens only feature indigenous South African plants, making it a unique botanical garden to visit. Concerts are held in the gardens every Sunday between December and March.

Robben Island

Robben Island is situated 12 km off the Cape Town coast, and has been designated a UN World Heritage Site. Originally it was inhabited by Stone Age people, at a time when it was still joined to the mainland. In more recent history it has been used as a prison =96 made famous by Nelson Mandela's incarceration. Organized tours are run on the island by former prisoners, and the prison itself is a working museum.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in Cape Town with palm trees lining the avenue.
You have just purchased a new home, and while showing a loved one the new, albeit empty home, your loved one mentions that it would look lovely if some Victorian interior designs were incorporated. You are a bit confused as to what your loved one meant, so you would like to find out more information about Victorian interior design.

About Victorian Interior Design

In order to understand what Victorian interior design is, you must first have a basic understanding of what the Victorian era was. The Victorian era specifically refers to the years which Queen Victoria ruled England. Her taste was refined and decadent, which is surprising because the era is know for having had high moral standards.

So, when it comes to Victorian interior design, it means having your home resemble the homes of the Victorian era. The first thing that you will notice if you have ever been in an authentic Victorian house is the wallpaper. Victorian wallpaper was thick and decorative, usually in the form of gold flowers.

While you do not need to incorporate that aspect of Victorian interior design into your home, if you wanted a complete, authentic Victorian look, you would have to choose wallpaper over paint. The next thing that is very indicative of Victorian interior design is the armchair.

If you are a fan of period movies, no doubt you have at least once seen a Victorian armchair. The armchair is usually made of dark oak, and the cushions are made of red velvet. Which leads you to another integral aspect of Victorian d=E9cor, especially when it came to furniture: maroon or red velvet was a must to adorn the furniture in the homes of opulent families.

You might think that Victorian interior design is all about being decadent. While it is for the most part, there is also the daintier side of Victorian d=E9cor, and that is lace. People in the Victorian era decorated many aspects of their home with lace, from their beds to their pianos to their dinner tables.

Thus, you too can incorporate this in your own home with lace curtains. Lace curtains come in a variety of different lengths and styles and can add a classic elegance to your home. The curtains are also quite versatile and can be placed in many different areas of your home.

If you are interested in obtaining more information on Victorian interior design, go to your local bookstore and inquire about books that are available on the subject. You can also search the internet as well. You are sure to find interesting information on Victorian interior design with the proper research http://www.snslamps.com <bio>http://www.snslamps.com </bio>

Victoria Beckham has a very romantic, idealistic vision of love and relationships, and she may be disillusioned to discover that no real, flesh-and-blood human being ever quite lives up to her dream image of the perfect love. However, even though she frequently fantasizes about love and romance - she may avoid becoming intimately involved with anyone or making definite commitments. Beckham can be evasive and dishonest with herself and others when it comes to love.

Victoria's longing for love may be expressed through art, music or an involvement with mysticism. She also gets a lot of emotional fulfillment through her involvement in groups, clubs, organizations, community activities, or networks of close friends who support and care for her. Beckham needs friends, mainly ones with whom she can share some ideals or beliefs that she holds dear. At any rate, Victoria Beckham needs close relationships with people outside of her physical family, and she is quietly supportive and faithful to her friends and loved ones.

She is uninhibited and spontaneous and will often do something unexpected or humorous in order to loosen people up and get them out of their rut. Victoria Beckham craves emotional stimulation, excitement, surprises and anything new. Beckham also loves to feel free and unfettered. She is very compassionate and loves to share her feelings with others. Victoria Beckham is always in search for new relationships and enjoys working together with others in groups, clubs or associations that support an atmosphere that is open and experimental; Victoria has little taste for convention and tradition.

She is assertive and confronts difficulties in a direct, no-nonsense sort of way. Victoria Beckham cannot tolerate self-pity or passivity, and she can be rather brusque with others' emotional problems. She is not easily moved by emotional displays and can be curiously detached from her own emotions and those of others. Family relationships and attachments are not as important to her, and Beckham often considers her friends closer to her than her blood relatives. In her personal relationships, Victoria Beckham insists upon independence and the freedom to pursue friendships with as many people, of both sexes, as she chooses. Victoria does not appreciate a jealous, possessive partner.

Victoria can get hot under the collar rather easily, but she also has a certain degree of emotional self-control and composure, which enable her to rein in some of her more aggressive tendencies. This is thanks to her inner poise and balance that enables her to act in a cool, efficient manner during emotional trauma and stress. She maintains her perspective and objectivity about highly charged emotional issues, sometimes even to the dismay of others who wish that Beckham would react more intensely.

Victoria's thinking is dictated by her feelings and she may rely on her intuitions and impressions rather than practical means. Her advice may often be sought and heeded, because Victoria Beckham seems to know and understand what motivates others. Tremendously sympathetic, Victoria Beckham gives very selflessly and devotedly to those she loves and often allows others to become overly dependent upon her. She may even become romantically involved with a person because they express a need for love, rather than out of mutual pleasure or attraction.

Victoria Beckham is drawn to sensitive, imaginative, gentle souls - poets, musicians, dreamers, where she feels that she can have a deep spiritual relationship with. As said before, she idealizes love and has a very beautiful, romantic vision of what love relationships can be. Best for Victoria is to fall in love with someone who is successful, noble and idealistic.

She is kindhearted and generous with both her money and her affections, and she is not happy if she has to budget or restrict herself in any way. No pettiness or stinginess is allowed, and Victoria feels most comfortable in an elegant, beautiful atmosphere. She also enjoys sponsoring social events or cultural activities. <bio>Article can be reprinted with copyright addressed to Shlomo Tommer, partner with Top Synergy Relationships Group [http://www.topsynergy.com/], and editor of Victoria Beckham's Astro Profile [http://famous-relationships.topsynergy.com/Victoria_Beckham/]. </bio>

When looking back at history, marriages and weddings have changed significantly since earlier times. When a couple got married in medieval times, it was not simply a union between the bride and groom. It often encompassed the marriage of two families or even two businesses. The wedding gowns that were worn by the bride were considered a status symbol that represented the status and position of the bride's family. The type of material and colors of the wedding gowns, especially among the upper class and nobility, were meant to show the importance of the couple's families.

In the years that followed, brides continued to be adorned in silk, satin and furs along with displaying many bold colors in their wedding gowns. The bride's wedding dress continued to be a representation of the social status, and those of lesser stature wore gowns that were similar in design to those worn by the wealthy, but made from materials of lesser value. The length of the train often determined the wealth of the bride's family, as well as the amount of material used in the wedding dresses.

In more recent history, brides were wearing wedding gowns designed after those of popular culture at the time. This was the trend in the western world after the turn of the 20th century. For example, during the 1920's a bride would often wear a short gown, resembling the dresses of the so-called "Roaring 20's" with a long train in the back.

Queen Crosses Boundary With White Gown

It wasn't until around 1940 that wedding gowns reverted back to the designs of the Victorian age. This is the style that is currently being worn by the modern day bride. The color of wedding gowns prior to the wedding of Mary, Queen of Scots would have been designed with bold colors of purple and reds. When the queen married Francois II of France, she became the first bride to wear white. It was considered as a slap in the face to the French, because at that time white was the national color of mourning in France.

However, white wedding gowns did not really catch on until the wedding of Queen Victoria and Albert of Saxe-Coburg. The official wedding picture of her wearing a white gown was widely publicized and prompted many brides to choose white as the color for their own gowns. The amount of material used in the gown remained a symbol of the bride's status in life with many of the brides from poorer families wearing simple church dresses in white.

Throughout history, white wedding gowns were considered a sign of innocence and purity, and somewhere along the line was thought to symbolize virginity. This notion has slowly faded and most brides choose white wedding gowns regardless of the current circumstances of the couple. It is not unusual for white to be worn during second and even third weddings allowing the bride to have a white-themed wedding. <bio>Brought to you as a courtesy from http://www.topweddingplanningideas.com/wedding_gowns.html </bio>

There's something for everyone to do and somewhere for everyone to stay.

This tiny part of BC on southern Vancouver Island offers a microcosm of the province including ocean beaches, pretty lakes, rainforest parks and mountain vistas. There are first rate attractions too such as the Butchart Gardens, the Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle and the Inner Harbour. Visitors enjoy enthralling activities such as whale-watching, kayaking, sailing, fishing, golf, biking and hiking - there are 48 regional, provincial and federal parks in Greater Victoria.

A moderate Mediterranean climate makes Victoria BC a year-round vacation destination, with substantially less rain than either Vancouver or Seattle. Summers are pleasantly hot and winters surprisingly mild (a flower count is held in the last week of February - there were over 3.9 billion blossoms in 2000!). The relaxed lifestyle and safe environment have also helped to Victoria a top world travel destination.

As well as the usual selection of hotels, resorts, motels, vacation rentals, campgrounds and RV parks there are literally hundreds of Victoria BC bed and breakfasts. These are delightful places to stay - you can choose from a heritage home, waterfront guest house, country manor house, lakeside lodging, elegant inn, country cottage, a farm or a woodland retreat. Some are in peaceful country settings near the Butchart Gardens, others in Cordova Bay a small community just 15-20 minutes from downtown Victoria, the ferries and the airport. All include a full breakfast so their rates are highly competitive.

Other area attractions near Greater Victoria BC bed and breakfasts include the Horticulture Centre of The Pacific, the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory/Centre of the Universe and Saanich Commonwealth Place (a swimming and recreational centre of Olympic standards). Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park is popular for swimming, rowing, windsurfing, fishing, walking and horseback riding. Nearby you can stroll on an ocean beach or hike through woodland and lakeside trails, tour wild marine parks, visit wineries and sample BC wines, or snack on local fruit at roadside stands.

Your Bandamp;B hosts will gladly provide insights into all these attractions and activities. Their hospitality extends beyond providing bed and breakfast needs, they can pass on travel tips, restaurant recommendations and local secrets to enhance your visit. Regard this as a bonus - the chance to acquire local knowledge whilst chatting at the breakfast table. They will help andquot;tailor-makeandquot; your visit so that you make the most of your stay in this lovely area. <bio>Martin Vernon, and his wife Linda, have operated a Victoria Bed and Breakfast in British Columbia, Canada for nine years.
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, fondly referred to as V andA Waterfront, is one of the premier areas around Cape Town. The area comprises not only a working harbour but also numerous gathering places and historical sites as well. Visitors and locales alike enjoy everything from live music, theatre, arts and crafts markets and shopping malls within this vibrant community.

The history of the waterfront reaches all the way back to 1860. It was during this time that the second son of Queen Victoria, Prince Alfred, visited the area and played a role in lifting the first rock that serve as construction for the breakwater on Cape Town. More than one hundred years later, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Company developed basins in the harbour in an effort to combine both commerce and tourism in the area. Today, visitors and locales can access the VandA Waterfront through a variety of means from the Atlantic Seaboard as well as the city centre. A bus and a shuttle operate along the Waterfront; running from town and the airport.

If you are new to the area, be sure to stop by the Visitors Centre, which is located on Market Square, adjacent to Vaughan Johnson's Wine Shop. Here, you can find information on Cape Town, the Waterfront and the Western Cape. In addition, you can obtain info about local tours, accommodation and local tourist guides. The Waterfront area is quite safe as 24-hour surveillance is in operation, assuring that visitors are able to move about the Waterfront and enjoy all that is offered with no concerns.

When it comes to shopping, Alfred Mall is considered to be one of the most popular shopping venues, offering boutiques as well as specialty shops. When you are ready for a break, there are numerous coffee shops where you can sit and relax as well as a restaurant to enjoy. The Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre also offers dining options, including fast food outlets, as well as almost two hundred major retail outlets and specialty shops.

The Waterfront Craft Market offers one of the biggest craft markets in South Africa, offering a variety of quality handcrafts such as leather work, pottery, clothing, furniture and glass art.

The entire family will be able to enjoy a variety of entertainment venues ranging from street entertainers to buskers. In addition, there are also a number of festivals that take place throughout the year. Eleven cinemas offer numerous cinematic options.

Along with the many shopping and entertainment venues, there are also numerous historic buildings to view along the Waterfront. Visitors can also enjoy a number of different activities and tours, such as seaplane rides, helicopter flips, harbour cruises and boat trips. In addition, the Two Oceans Aquarium offers the opportunity to see some of the interesting sea life that makes their home in the oceans that surround the Coast. The aquarium is the largest in the country. Besides the standard repositioning cruise, a transatlantic trip can be part of a world cruise, and these cruise trip itineraries offer a truly epic adventure.

For people who love to cruise, a transatlantic cruise brings to mind classic cruising at its heyday, with a leisurely pace of activity. Lounge on deck all day and spend the evening with fine dining and dancing.

Once the mainstay of travel across the Atlantic, the Trans-Atlantic crossing has evolved from a necessity to a luxury voyage, an opportunity to recapture the golden age of cruising from the early 20th century.

The model Trans-Atlantic crossing is characterized by four or five consecutive days at sea. However, newer, and longer versions of this basic itinerary will usually offer stops at places such as Bermuda, the Azores or the Canary Islands. Some Caribbean islands or European cities may also be included near the beginning or the end of the itinerary. Longer routes can travel down the coast of Latin America before crossing over. Or else choose a northern route via Newfoundland and Iceland and see the unspoiled Scottish Isles and the Norwegian fjords. But the unique character of the traditional Trans-Atlantic cruise makes these ports short diversions from the main purpose of the voyage: the transit across the vast expanse of the Atlantic.

Cunard lines, in keeping with its 165-year-old tradition, offers more regular Trans-Atlantic sailings than any other cruise line. Cunard is known for providing classic luxury cruises. These cruises leave approximately every month and customarily take 6 nights to travel between New York City and Southampton, England.

When it was first launched by Cunard in 1969, the Queen Elizabeth 2 was the world's largest passenger ship. With the 2004 debut of the Queen Mary 2, which is twice the size of the Queen Elizabeth 2, Cunard once again holds this record. The Queen Mary 2 is the longest, tallest, largest and most expensive passenger ship built to date. The QM2 provides unprecedented luxury in amenities and accommodations. The Queen Elizabeth 2 continues to display the high standard of British elegance associated with these classic ships. In 2007, the Queen Victoria, the second largest ship in the world, will join the fleet. Carnival Corporation acquired Cunard Line from the Norwegian Kvaerner group in 1998.

For most cruise lines, Trans-Atlantic cruises are only offered as a seasonal repositioning between the Caribbean and Europe. Commonly at the end of April or in early May, ships finish the winter season in the Caribbean make an eastbound crossing to begin a series of European cruises during the summer. At the end of the European summer season, in September or October, the ships return westbound to the warm waters of the Caribbean for the winter. Most major cruise lines such as Celebrity, Holland America, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International have biannual 10-16 night trans-Atlantic itineraries.

Eastbound Trans-Atlantic crossings often sail from Boston, New York, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and a few Caribbean ports. Westbound ships often depart from Dover or Southampton, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome and other major European ports. The ship can then travel through different ports on its way to America.

There is plenty to keep travellers busy on the trans-Atlantic passage. In response to passengers' desire for activity many cruise lines take advantage of the opportunity to offer special interest cruises such as Swing Dance, Big Band music, or wine and culinary themes. These events may be hosted by a well-known author, chef or celebrity for additional appeal. Educational programs such as art classes or computer learning may be provided, and dances and dinners on the ship will be organized to provide guests with plenty of opportunities for socializing. The extra time to relax is can also be used to take full advantage of the shipboard spa. And of course, the trans-Atlantic crossing is always the perfect time to catch up on the latest novel. <bio>J Schipper loves Cruising http://www.cruise-to-europe.com http://www.royalcaribbeanreview.com http://www.celebrity-cruise-now.info http://www.2qz.com/condo-cruise-ship http://www.condo-cruise-ship.com </bio>

If you think that wedding dresses have always been unfailingly in the white color range and untouchable by anyone else except the groom, you have another think coming. In the olden days, the wedding dress was anything but these things! Read on and find out how lucky you are as a modern bride of the 21st century.

The Color

In the olden days, wedding dresses were not the customary white of today. In fact, had you lived in medieval times, you could wear any color you fancy. You can wear funereal black, chirpy yellow, girlish pink, garish purple, and all the colors of the rainbow splashed on your wedding dress for all anybody cared! In other words, you can have fun and fantasy with your colorful wedding dress.

If you yearn for those olden times, you can blame Queen Victoria for setting the white wedding dress trend. On the 10th day of February 1840 when dear old Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe (an incestuous marriage by our standards since he was her first cousin), she wore a pale white off-shoulder gown with orange blossoms trimmings. And from then on, plebeians and royals alike have fallen all over their feet to copy her! The color of the wedding dresses, not the orange blossoms, of course, unless you want to appear like a wood nymph come down from the forest to marry in the lowlands.

Still, white is not such a bad color considering that in the olden days, grooms expected their brides to pile on the fur, silk velvet and other accoutrements of wealth! You might be allowed to wear any color but along with that privilege was the burden of fabrics and funfare to wedding dresses. Now you know why bridal portraits of old often showed the bride in a less-than-happy facial expression -- it must be from her smell under all that weight.

The Horror

You should be thanking your lucky stars you were not a medieval bride. In the olden days, you would be witness to wedding dresses ripped right out of the brides' bodies for good luck.

After the couple recited their vows, they were to immediately consummate the marriage. They would go into an available room where they can seal the deal on their marriage and open the door on a new chapter of their lives. Unfortunately, guests will grab the bride's clothes to get pieces of her clothes while she is on her way to conception, er, consummation. Simply put, you will appear bedraggled before the roll and you will lose your modesty before your virginity!

Que horror, right? Fortunately, you can just throw your bouquet and your groom can throw your garter to lucky guests as good luck tokens. Now, you can have your modesty intact. Well, except if you go for one of those bridal dresses with plunging necklines and it decides to do a wardrobe malfunction on you.

Indeed, compared with the color-happy and weight-happy wedding dresses ripped to shreds by guests, you would gladly take bouquet throwing, garter pulling, rice pelting, money pinning, and all the hassles of wedding planning any time of day. Or at least, you would except that those luxurious furs, smooth silks and decadent velvets sure could be your next best friend after the diamond on your engagement ring!<bio>If you are looking for the best bridal boutique in town, look no further than BestForBride.com!
