Having a book published is every writers dream. Whether it is a fiction book or a non-fiction or educational book that has been written; most people write a book in order to get it published. So, if you are a writer and you have just written "The End" on your novel or literature, how do you go about getting a book published?

Well, there are a few different methods that you might want to try. The first is self publishing. Self publishing is the process of publishing a book without having an agent, and without using a publisher that will distribute your book into stores. If you choose to self publish a book, you need to find a printer that does specialize in printing books. You also have to be aware that when you self publish a book, you are responsible for promoting and selling the book. You can contact local book stores that are not branded to get your book into shops. You can also sell them on the Internet on your own website, or ask others to sell and promote for you.

Some people believe that self publishing is an easy way to get your book in print it may be easy to get it into print, but it is extremely difficult for an unknown writer to sell their book and get it into stores when it is self published. Some writers are opting for self publishing rather than any other way, as they wish to get rid of the need for an agent or to find a publisher that will publish a book without an agent.

The more traditional way of getting a book published is to find a literary agent first. This stops the writer having to come up with deals with publishers, finding stores to take the book and to eliminate the stress of printing and approving the book. This gives the writer much more time to do what they do best... write.

To find an agent, a writer will normally have to send in a covering letter about themselves, a synopsis of the book they have written, which will detail the basic plot line of the book, and two or three chapters of the book usually the first three. Most agents won't accept email submissions from writers, particularly new ones, and they will require you to send it through the post in hard copy.

The agents are your direct line to the giant publishers that command the literary world. They have inside contacts usually with the highest person at the publishers and they can discuss and negotiate a deal for you that would be much better if you were to contact the publisher direct. Of course, if you do find an agent to represent you, they will expect a fee for their work. After all, it is the agent that got you to where you are is it not? The fee can vary greatly depending on what agent you choose to go with.

If after sending your work in the agents are really keen on representing you, you could try negotiating the price of their fee down. If they are keen to have you and spot real talent, they will not want you to go to another agent and take your success with you. Having a book published is a wonderful thing for any writer! Choose your agent wisely and keep going.<bio>If you are ready to have your book published you may be interested in our easy to use book template and ebook template.</bio>

24 million adults in the United States consider themselves creative writers but less than 5% have ever been published anywhere. 172,000 titles were released in 2005. It has been estimated that at any one time there are between 5 to 6 million manuscripts looking for a publishing home. Many writers are turning toward publish-on-demand (POD) houses like iUniverse, AuthorHouse and Publish America to get their books into readers' hands. About 25,000 titles will be released by POD houses in 2006. Does a publish-on-demand book, sometimes called vanity or subsidy publisher, help a previously unpublished writer get closer to the brass ring of a commercial publishing contract? Or does it bump them down a rung on their climb up the publishing ladder?

Writers often comment that a publish-on-demand book will at least "get their name out there" or that a POD book will show that they are capable of writing a 50,000 to 100,000 word manuscript. But does a POD book really help get a writer commercially published? That question was asked of nearly 60 successful literary agents in the Hill and Power 2006 Survey of Literary Agents.

These agents' collective opinion is that a publish-on-demand book seriously hurt an author's chance at being commercially published. Agents were asked to rate their response from 1 - significantly hurt, to 5 - significantly helped. The average rating was 2. 28% declared a POD title to be neutral (a rating of 3) but half of those specified that a POD title would only help if the sales reached a significant level, from 5,000 to 10,000 copies. Just a handful of publish-on-demand titles have reached that level of sales. The average number of copies sold for a POD title is around 100.

The book publishing industry has never been easy to break into and these same literary agents see the environment getting a bit more challenging in the next year or so for unpublished writers. Combine that with the significantly increased number of unsolicited submissions agents say they're receiving and writers need every boost they can get toward agency representation and the ultimate goal of commercial publication.

Unfortunately, contrary to what quite a few writers think, that boost isn't going to come from a publish-on-demand book. <bio>Dee Power is the co-author of "The Making of a Bestseller: Success Stories From Authors and the Editors, Agents and Booksellers Behind Them" Find out more about her at ttp://www.BrianHillAndDeePower.com If you would like to comment on these findings go to Dee's Blog </bio>

Self publishing might be the best way to publish your book. There are several advantages to self publishing that you might not have considered.

First, and most important, self publishing places you firmly in control of your book. When someone else is paying you to publish your book then they make many decisions regarding the editing of the manuscript, the cover, the title and the marketing that can impact not only how well your book will sell but also how it will be received by the reading public. For example, my second book ended up with the title andquot;Kentucky Kissesandquot; simply because my publisher's marketing department reported that books with the word andquot;kissesandquot; in the title sold well. I felt the title was rather frivolous for the content but my wishes were ignored.

Self publishing is also faster than traditional publishing. With my novel, Kentucky Kisses, it took me over a year to find a publisher interested in buying and several months before we went to contract. Then after the contract was signed it was another 18 months before my book was released to the public. That is a long time to wait.

Self publishing also allows you to retain all the profits from your endeavor. While you may have to put some money up front (depending on the method you use to self publish your book) you will not have to wait for months or years to see income as a result. Most publishers only pay royalties once or twice a year and then those royalties are only a small percentage of the book price. When you self publish your book then once you have covered any publications costs everything you earn is pure profit.

Finally, it cannot be overlooked that self publishing offers you an opportunity to break into print that might not be otherwise available. The simple fact is that traditional publishing is highly competitive and many worthwhile manuscripts (and authors) cannot find a publishing home although there may well be an eager and receptive audience for that book.

It should be noted that self publishing may not be for everyone. If you are still struggling with your writing and voice, or your manuscript still needs polishing, then you should continue to work on your book and perhaps bring in the assistance of a critique group or professional editor. Self publishing a book that is not yet ready for publication could be a costly mistake. If your manuscript has been polished and well received by several critical readers then you should at least consider self publishing your book.

Not only does self publishing offer you the advantages of complete control, faster publication, and higher profits, it is easier and less expensive than it has ever been before thanks to modern technology. Self publishing could be your big break as a writer. <bio>Deanna Mascle shares tips about writing and publishing with her newsletter Word Craft at http://wordcraftonline.com.
Comic book publishing has never been easier. Thanks to new software technology and the Internet, it is now possible for almost any individual to self-publish a comic book.

When it comes to publishing comics you have several options. It is essential for you to be open and aware of the various options available to you, so that you may find what is best for you in terms of finances and time.

The two primary known approaches for publishing your comic book involves going through a comic book publisher or self-publishing. But it does not end there; within each of these publishing categories you have more publishing options.

For example, if you go through a comic book publisher, you have the option of working with a major publisher or an independent publisher (small press). The same thing applies with self-publishing. You may decide to print multiple copies of your comic book, use print on demand or even go online. I must add that there are even more options as well in both categories. However, I would not mention them due to time.

Once you have browsed at your options it is as simple as seeing which one is fastest, easiest, and can meet your financial budget.

Why is this necessary? Every comic book creator is not the same. Everyone has his or her own issues and circumstance. For this reason I always see the need to present the different options a comic book creator has. In addition to this, I also like to state the easiest and best option possible for all comic book creators to implement.

Nevertheless, if you have problems deciding what is best for you, you can start by checking your schedule. See how much time you can sincerely put aside to publish your comic book. People usually value their time more than money. Therefore, this alone should be able to help many decide. Just in case you are still very unsure, take a look at your finances, and calculate how much you can set aside for publishing. I am sure these two factors would be enough to help you decide how you should approach publishing your comic book.

I have a word of advice to those who don't feel comfortable looking outside of traditional publishing when it comes to comic book publishing. It is vital that you don't only focus on Marvel, DC comics, Image or any other major comic book publisher to publish your comic book.

The times are changing and you now have other alternatives that are just as effective as going through the mainstream or independent comic publishers. If you are only focused on getting your work published by Marvel, DC or even Image comics, you may be disappointed, since they get thousands of submissions every year. Out of all these submissions only one or two are selected. For these reasons it doesn't hurt to take action by checking out other options.

Due to the intensive nature of publishing it is best to seek out the option that is fastest, easiest, cheapest and most effective for you. <bio>I'm the webmaster and co-owner of http://www.comic-book-and-strip-service.com.
It is difficult to break into the publishing industry as a new author, and even more difficult to get an acceptance letter from an editor at a large publishing house. As an author you will work hard to finish your book, and work even harder to find the right book publisher. The good news is you can tap into several types of publishers to publish your book. Here is a look at some common types of book publishing.

GROUP PUBLISHING: Group publishing is the process by which a large company publishes your work in the name of a larger company. For example, large publishing companies often operate smaller publishing companies. The larger publishing company serves as an umbrella over the smaller group publishing companies. Sometimes these companies operate several smaller companies and book imprints that produce different genres of writing and books. Sometimes this is referred to trade publishing. For example, a large publishing group may produce best-selling adult novels, but may also operate under a smaller name to produce certain non-fiction books, cookbooks, children's books, or niche titles. Group publishing is a popular way to publish a book.

EDUCATIONAL PUBLISHING: Educational publishing shares some likeness to trade publishing. These companies deal specifically with educational material. They may deal with only college textbooks, or they might deal with textbooks and materials for grades K-12. Besides textbooks, these companies might also produce other forms of educational material, which include posters, workbooks, CD-ROMS, software, testing material and maps. There are several big name educational publishing companies.

UNIVERSITY PUBLISHING: Better known as the "University Press," this type of publishing is different from group publishing and it is not the same as scholarly publishing. These types of companies are usually non-profit. Universities, colleges and sometimes museums or other organizations operate these publishing imprints. These publishers usually publish books by scholars and other specialists. Besides distributing their books to bookstores, they also make their book titles available within the university system. Sometimes larger trade publishers publish these types of books.

INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING: Independent publishers are often the best way to publish your book with established distribution channels. Independent publishers are generally small, privately-owned companies. Many times, these companies only publish a handful of books each year and they specialize in certain subjects. They have the freedom to publish just about anything they wish.

SOFTWARE and other MEDIA: You might consider software and other types of media as a publishing option. Think about the many e-books, CD-ROMs and digital downloads, many published by large and small publishing companies. These types of publishing companies are often associated with larger trade publishers. In fact, many large publishing companies have their own in-house media publisher to spawn the traditional paperback book into other types of media. Digital and alternate media is a huge, profitable business, and these publishers are just as important and lucrative as the large trade publishers.

As you can see, you can tap into various publishers who might consider publishing your book. If you are unlucky with a large trade publisher or group publisher, then don't give up. Keep looking at the different types of publishing companies until you find one that wants to work with you and your book. <bio>Learn how to become a published book author!
Ask any published book author about writing a book, and they will tell you it's a monumental task. The process is long, drawn out, and grueling. Even if you enjoy writing =96 and don't mind writing on the same subject for an extended period -- the writing process will, undoubtedly, exhaust you. Getting your book published, however, will take even more time and effort than writing the thing in the first place.

Are you thinking about writing a book? Have you already written one? Do you wonder how to get your book published? If you so, read on. Here are some hand-picked tips on how to publish your book.

WRITING YOUR BOOK

To write a successful book you need to start out with some original thought. You probably have plenty of originality, but you may have trouble creating a coherent flow of ideas and information that the public will digest. The first step is to create the skeleton (or blueprint) of your book. You need to organize your thoughts into a progression of chapters.

If you are writing a non-fiction book, start with a table of contents. Write chapter headings and sub-headings. Organize your chapters so you build each chapter upon one another. If you can brainstorm more chapter headings than you will use, you will find it easier to fill your book with a series of short articles that flow into one another.

If you are writing fiction, you will need more of a storyboard. You will need to create cause and effect as well as character sketches. To make your story coherent your characters will need to react to events. Their reactions should become predictable as your readers get into the story. You may need to create some situations for your characters to introduce their traits to the reader.

These are general guidelines on how to construct your book. The complete process will be much more involved as you move closer to finding out how to get your book published. Even after you are finished with the bulk of the content, your goal to publish your book involves a lot more work.

GETTING YOUR BOOK INTO PRINT

The next step to get your book published is finding a publisher. Both the Internet and your local library have many resources. You can tap into these resources to find the best publisher to publish your book. After a series of queries and correspondence with potential publishers, you may get an invitation to submit your manuscript. Then the work begins.

A publisher is very experienced in finding marketable books. He knows what it will take to get your book to sell. Don't be offended when a book editor tears your writing apart, as this may be a positive sign that the publisher is interested in your book. Expect to enter into a close relationship of compromise and change with the editor as you rework what you have already painstakingly written. When you are finished, you will have a readable, clean, and correct manuscript, ready for print.

The road to getting a book published is a long one, but it is well worth the effort. Trust yourself, and trust the publisher to create a beautiful masterpiece. Don't be discouraged if several publishers are not interested in your book. You may have to self-publish your first book, and then again, your book may eventually get accepted right away. Good luck and enjoy the process. <bio>Learn how to become a published book author!
With the rise in the number of self published authors, there is much debate as to whether it's better to self publish your own books or whether to still follow the traditional route of trying to find a publisher.

There are many people who say that self published books won't sell or that no one trusts self published books, but the people saying this are not publishers or published authors. They are simply people who want to be published authors, but their not, so they spend their time trying to discredit the work of self published authors.

But when it comes to selling books, the only opinions that matter are those of the readers. And readers don't care who has published the book, as long as it's a good book.

So the only decision you should be making is which type of publishing is best for you and your personality type?

Traditional publishing means that the author has to relinquish all the rights to their own work and some authors don't want tot do this.

A publisher will control the cost of the book, the interior layout, the cover design, the editing, any changes to the finished manuscript and the publishing date.

If you're a first-time author a publisher may delay publishing your book for quite a while. So the time between you signing the publishing contract and the time your book is published, can be several years.

It also may take several years before you find a publisher which can mean a lot of writing time lost in sending out query letters and proposals. Even the first "Chick Soup for the Soul" book, which has now sol millions of copies, was originally turned down by over 140 publishers.

A publishing contract is also something that needs to be taken into consideration.

A contract will be dozen of pages long and is best looked over by a lawyer who deals with intellectual property law to make sure that all the clauses are fair to the author.

And even when you've found a publisher and negotiated a contract, you will still be responsible for marketing your won work because publishers prefer to use their marketing department to work on their best selling books or celebrity biographies.

And after all that, if your book fails to sell at least a few thousand copies quickly, it can be withdrawn in only a few months.

But if you prefer to have a large publishing company publish your book then this is the way for you to go.

On the other hand you may want to retain complete control of your work and this is where self publishing can help you.

Everything about the publishing process is left in your complete control and with the use of modern technology, publishing a book, or a thousand books, can be done from home with only a computer and internet connection.

You can easily set out your book, create a cover of your own choosing and have your book selling internationally within only a week or two.

And you don't have to worry about the low sales or your book being withdrawn because while a sale of only a couple of thousand copies after publication is bad for a large publishing company, it's great for a self published author, who, instead of receiving a small royalty from book sales, is making $15 or more per sale.

And you can keep your book "in print" for as long as you want.

With the ease of modern publishing methods, you can now write as many books as you want to, as often as you want to and you can relax in the knowledge that they will all be published.

And once you become a regularly self published author, even if you only sell a few thousand copies a year of each book, you can still achieve a 6-figure income. And if you want to increase your income all you have to do is write and publish more books.

Now isn't that the kind of life you've always dreamed of?<bio>Ruth Barringham is a writer, author and publisher.
How to get a book deal without being scammed is a hurdle for any writers. Publishers Are Not Exempt From Questionable Practices.

Keep These Warning Signs in Mind

Charges a fee to read your manuscript. You are providing the product for them to sell. Why should you have to pay to see if they are interested in your work?

Offers subsidy contracts (you pay them to have your book published) when they promote themselves as commercial publishers. Are POD (publish-on-demand) publishers, such as authorshouse, IUniverse, and Xlibris, legitimate publishers? Yes as long as the author realizes the costs and the limitations of POD publishing. Publish On Demand books are rarely stocked in bookstores.

Bait and Switch There are some publishers who hide behind the mask of respectability and call themselves `traditional' when in fact they are a vanity press. How can you tell? Look at their websites, if the focus is on recruiting writers rather than promoting the books they publish, it's a huge red flag.

Other publishers `will accept' your manuscript and then come back a few weeks later and say that their list for the next season is full but they would dearly love to publish your book. You just need to share the risk with them by giving them some money.

A new twist is to tell the author that their project has merit but the author will have to find an investor to sponsor their title. The publisher isn't asking the author directly for any funds but many authors shell out the necessary dollars rather than try and find an `investor.'

Rebates The publisher says that any fees you pay them will be completely refunded once your book reaches a certain sales level, usually in the thousands. Or that they will provide a comparable number of `free' copies when the magic sales level has been reached.

A twist on rebates is that the publisher will match your monetary contribution in marketing efforts for your title. Publishers are supposed to market their own titles. The match most likely will not be in advertising dollars, review copies sent, or book tour expenses but the efforts of the in house staff. Efforts that probably won't be focused specifically on your title.

How to get a book deal without getting scammed is possible for any author. Just keep these warning signs in mind. <bio>Want to find out how you can avoid scams and still get your book published?
If you dream of being a writer but you think that you have a long, long way to go, modern techniques and the right tools can actually get your writing career up and going in minutes. More and more amateur writers, as well as professional writers, are discovering the convenience of self-publishing. You can directly sell your book to the market without going through third party agents that can really get a run for your money with their high commission rate.

One way of entering the self-publishing market is to use a book template. If you are someone who has a hard time organizing what you've written in a well documented book format, you can get a big help from a book template. Using a book template can save you a lot of time and energy. No longer would you have to manually format each header, footer and content of your book pages. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can instantly render something that you never thought possible- your very own book!

Book templates are a new technique that can speed up book creation. It is a fairly new concept, but nevertheless, more and more people are trying their hands on this tool and the response rate has been good so far. Although it is a tool of the Internet, you don't need intensive computer skill to use this software. Book templates are designed for writers and people with average computer skills. If you know how to use Microsoft Word, then you can pretty much use book templates with ease and comfort. Some book template software also uses Adobe Design and Quark, but don't you worry if you are unfamiliar with these programs. Book template programs include step by step instructions that can guide you through the program.

What does a book template exactly do? Upon using this program, you can easily format your writings into ready to publish materials. The format and style used would be similar to traditional books sold for retail. It would be composed of a title page, copyright, dedication page, table of contents, preface, book chapters and finally, an author's page. You can also add an alphabetic index at the end of the book. The documents would be page numbered accordingly and the chapter pages would contain the chapter title followed by content.

You can also format paragraphs and character styles with ultimate ease and speed. All you basically need to do is to create a text body, headings for your titles, subtitles, footers and headers. You can also specify other additional formatting styles that you need. You can include numbered or bullet lists. For extra flavor to your book, you can easily add box outs, figure captions and tip boxes.

Aside from saving you a lot of time, using a book template can also save you a lot of money. An ordinary typeset service for a book would cost you more than a thousand dollars. Plus, you would also have to get someone to do the cover design for you, which would cost you a few more hundreds. Depending on the book template program that you purchased, you can also receive book template covers that allow you to use generic graphics and copyright-free images for your front cover design.

So if you want to save time, money and energy in self publishing your book, get your hands on one of the book templates sold online and start making profits out of your book today!<bio>Did you know that you can self publish books on your own using an existing book template?</bio>

Copyright law is a means of securing legal protection of your ownership of a publication or another type of intellectual property, such as a website or a blog. If you publish a book and sign a contract with a publisher, you normally agree to relinquish all rights to the work until a certain condition is met. This can be a length of time, in which case you will start to earn royalties after your book has been in print for a certain number of months. It can also be a price, which would be the total royalties that your book must earn before you start getting paid. This price is normally your publishing advance, so when your book has made more than your advance, you start earning royalties.

When you publish a book, a website or a blog you automatically establish ownership of that content, whether you sign a contract or not. International copyright law can be extremely complicated, with many different clauses and conditions. However, the standard copyright for any publication is the life of the author plus fifty years. Once this time is over, the copyright of the publication could fall into the hands of any number of entities. Your copyright usually falls into the public domain, but you could have a special clause in your contract stipulating otherwise.

There are two different types of copyright that are generally established for a publication. The first is the copyright in the literary work itself, which has the duration of your life plus fifty years. The second is the copyright in the layout, format and distinct "feel" of the publication. According to copyright law the content remains your intellectual property for fifty years after that specific publication, so if your book sees a new edition a century after its first publication, you will still own this copyright. <bio>Get a minnesota business attorney to help you with minnesota law, including copyright issues: http://www.bolinskelaw.com </bio>

According to a recent survey, more than eighty percent of Americans want to write a book. This shocking statistic is somewhat puzzling because the National Endowment for the Arts estimates that only fifty-seven percent of Americans have read one book in the last twelve months!

What is it that makes people -- even non-readers -- want to put pen to paper?

Perhaps it's the desire for fame and fortune. Maybe it's the need to earn respect from others. Or maybe it's the hopeful wish to leave some mark on the future, a permanent record of a life lived.

Whatever the reason, for those who actually complete a manuscript, the odds of seeing it published by a reputable book publisher are slim to none.

For the estimated two million manuscripts that authors complete, there are only 64,000 publishers of record, and only a fraction of those publishers actively seek new manuscripts.

So what are the millions of hopeful authors to do?

The first step would be to ensure their manuscripts are the best they can be. This is usually accomplished by re-writing, editing, and proofreading by an outside firm or by a well-read and literate colleague.

Even then, most of those two million books stand no chance of being accepted by a traditional publisher. Authors who do make the cut are not necessarily the best writers, but rather they are writers who can sell themselves and their stories most convincingly.

Some authors, after rejections from the trade, will find themselves victims of vanity publishers, who take advantage of the hopes and aspirations of writers to extract an exorbitant fee to publish their book. Writers are better off publishing through firms like iUniverse and Lulu. Although their books will likely never see wide distribution, at least their losses will be minimal.

Finally, there are the select few who decide to become publishers themselves, even if it is only to self-publish their own book. These self-publishers will find great obstacles, and a great deal of work in this route. The challenge and reward of having one's success or failure entirely in one's own hands is a powerful feeling.

Whether they choose to publish electronically, or use short run printing service like Lightning Source, or even to go full boar with a print run of 1,000 or more, their success depends on how well they sell themselves and their story to others.

There's an age-old debate about which method is better; using a publishing company or self publishing your own book. You know your situation and you know what will work best for you. You'll want to consider how much time or money you have to invest in the project. That should give you an idea as to which route to take. Using a publisher takes less time on your part, but you'll forfeit some of the royalties by using this method. If you self publish, you'll have to pay "up front" and do the initial work to get the ball rolling on sales of your book.

If you are about to embark on a new manuscript, educate yourself thoroughly about the industry, its scams, and potential pitfalls. More importantly, learn to market yourself well, for this, more than any other skill, is the determining factor in your success or failure. <bio>Learn how to become a published book author!
Publishing a book is one of the best ways to build credibility and gain exposure. Not only can it position you as an expert in your field but it could also open the door to entirely new opportunities just because you are now an author. Indeed, almost any author will tell you the best thing they ever did was publish their first book.

There are three primary options for getting your book published. The easiest way is to self-publish the book yourself, meaning you complete the work and send it to a printer. Done. The second option is to use an independent publisher. These are legitimate publishers but they're smaller than the big boys and tend to specialize in one area or another. The last option is the most ambitious and it involves the industry majors like Penguin and Random House.

Any aspiring author would prefer to get their book published by a major publishing house. It gives you far more credibility and enhances your chances of selling the book once it's on retail shelves. But getting one of the big publishers to publish your book is no easy task. There are a number of things you need to keep in mind before you even get started.

Most importantly, the big publishing houses only work with proven authors. That means it's extremely difficult to get them to work with you on your first book. They want to know you've successfully sold books before. And if it's your first book, you better have an impressive platform and an audience you can easily tap into to promote sales. Bottom line; they don't really care what your book is about. Their top priority is your ability to sell it.

The big publishers generally don't deal directly with the author anyway. They prefer to deal through Literary Agents. These are basically screeners who receive hundreds of book proposals each month and sift through them looking for those with real potential. Getting a Literary Agent is step one if you hope to get your book published by one of the big publishing houses.

A great way to find Literary Agents is to go to a book store and find books similar to the one you'd like to write. Then look at the acknowledgments. In most cases, the authors will thank their agents in that section and you can simply make note of their names and then look them up on Google. Then contact them and see if they're accepting new proposals.

Book proposals for the big publishing houses are generally quite large. It's not unusual for the proposal to be 100 pages long. In fact, you're almost better off writing the entire book ahead of time and then putting the proposal together afterwards. You'll end up including a sample chapter in the proposal anyway and there are plenty of other things it should include. You can find more information about what needs to be included by doing a Google search for book proposal.

Getting your first book published by one of the industry majors is difficult but it's not impossible. Do your research on the front end and learn how the system works. That will be your greatest asset when starting the process.
1. Attend trade shows and seminars that are related to your specific industry. Pass out business cards or brochures about your business. Of course, such material can contain special offers or coupons.

2. Swap articles with other e-zine publishers. You could get your articles published more often if in exchange you publish their articles.

3. Ask people to link to your site's content. Some people may not want to link to your home page but might want to link to your relevant content. Actually offer discounts for linking to your content or home page.

4. Convert your web site into an e-book or audio book. You could offer your book as a free bonus for your product or another business' product. If you charge for the book, you can make more money by having different but related material in the e-book and in the audio files. For instance, sell an e-book on Internet marketing and audio files explaining the book more clearly. Both can contain other offers and rebates.

5. Create e-books for other web sites or businesses. You could create them for no charge in exchange for an ad or mention of your web site inside the e-book. Try to make that mention lead to sales that you can easily track to the book. For instance, offer a discount to customers who mention a special offer hidden inside the book.

6. Team up with at least eight to ten other sites to promote the same web site. Just include everyone's products on the web site you are all promoting together. Do not, however, team up with too many sites or advertise too many products at once on the same site. You want each product to have a chance to get noticed, not to get lost among many similar offers. But you can do the same thing with more sites.

7. Give free email consultations to your customers. When you email them back your advice, include a small ad for a back-end product you are selling. Alternatively, you could charge for your consultations but wave the consultation fees if your customers agree to advertise your product in a simple, discreet way that does not cost them much, such as linking to your site or adding a small add for your product on their site.

8. Encourage your customers or visitors to ask you questions about your product or web site by emailing you. Just include your signature file with your reply.

9. Give out free web space on your server. Many of your visitors may want to publish their own web site but lack resources or know-how. Just require that they publish your banner ad on their web sites.

10. Design web sites for other businesses for free. Just require them to publish your banner or text ad somewhere on their home page. However, since creating professionally-designed web sites is in itself a good business opportunity, only offer for free a basic web site that does not take long to create if you know what you are doing, and that the customer may want to upgrade. <bio>The author is a Montreal Web marketing professional who is providing free reviews of the best opportunities to make money on the Internet at http://www.opportunitiesataglance.com.
To publish means to make information and literature available for the public to view. Publishing involves the process of producing and distributing literature so that the public can have access to it. Sometimes, certain authors publish their own work and in that case they become their own publishers.

The traditional meaning of the word "publishing" means to print newspapers and books on paper and distribute them. But now with improved technology we have the Internet and other digital information systems. So, now publishing is done not only through printing but also electronically. Of late a large number of periodicals and books have been published online and electronically through CDs and DVDs.

The authors of traditional printed materials sell exclusive territorial intellectual property rights that match the list of countries in which distribution is proposed (i.e. the rights match the legal systems under which copyright protections can be enforced). In the case of books, the publisher and writer must also agree on the intended formats of publication mass-market paperback, "trade" paperback and hardback are the most common options.

The situation is slightly more complex if electronic formatting is to be used. Where distribution is to be by CD-ROM or other physical media, there is no reason to treat this form differently from a paper format, and a national copyright is an acceptable approach.

If you want to publish a book, there are several steps involved in the process. The steps involved in publishing are development, acquisition, editing, designing of cover etc, production (which involves printing on paper or electronically), marketing and distribution.

The first step involved if you want to publish a book is submission. The author or the literary agent has to submit a proposal or query letter. The next step in the publishing process is negotiation. Once the proposal has been accepted, the commissioning editors start to negotiate the purchasing of intellectual property rights and finally agree on a certain rate. One of the main steps in publishing is the editorial stage. In this stage of publishing, the work to be published is reviewed and proofread and if any changes are to be made the author is asked to rewrite or make some small changes. This is done usually to match the grammatical requirements and style of each market. Requesting for additional information and structural changes are part of this stage of publishing.

Next stage in publishing is the prepress stage. Once the text is finalized, the design has to be decided. Artwork, photographs and layout need to be finalized. Typesetting is done for placement of artwork and setting the layout. Proofreading is done in this stage of publishing also. Paper quality, composition of dust jacket and binding method has to be decided. Once typesetting is done, the files are saved normally in the PDF format.

The publisher is the one who usually controls marketing tasks such as advertising. If it is a small company, tasks such as proofreading, editing and layout may be outsourced to freelancers.

This is only a simple overview of what it takes to publish a book. If you successfully publish one book, you can start thinking about a reprint or about publishing a new book! <bio>Carlos Lehotti is professional writer and one of the owners of http://www.readingmania.com portal.
Writing and Publishing a Children's Book is a dream for many people.
The task of getting published is one of the daunting aspects of writing. This can be difficult, if you want to get published by a traditional publishing house. It's not as difficult if you want to self-publish. In this article I will share with you the steps involved in getting your work published either traditionally or through self-publishing.

Mainstream publishers are often reluctant to accept work from young writers as anyone under 18 cannot sign a contract on their own and will require parental involvement. That is not to say you cannot submit to them but make sure your work is of high quality as you will be competing with adult writers. There are also several publishers that cater specifically to young writers, for a list of these, check out the book THE YOUNG WRITER'S GUIDE TO GETTING PUBLISHED. There are also several sites on the web that accept work from young writers such as <a href="http://stonesoup.com" >http://stonesoup.com and Merlyn's pen. Make sure you edit your work thoroughly and follow the submission guidelines for publishers carefully. Some publishers prefer that you send a query letter only at first describing your project. The query letter should be only one page long. If it is longer than that a busy editor will likely just throw it to one side. Think of the back cover summary you see on most books you buy, try to summarize what your book is about in a few words. This can be difficult but it must be done and done in a way that grabs an editor's attention. Some publishers will allow you to submit a query letter and a few chapters of your work or your entire book. It is important that you use the correct font, you can't go wrong with courier new 12 pt and a double spaced manuscript. The query letter can use the same font but there is no need to double space it.

Let's now take a look at self publishing. Self publishing has become quite easy with the advent of self publishers like Lulu. At http://lulu.com you can publish your work for free. However lulu does take a small commission of anything you sell. Lulu also sells ISBN's for around $100 U.S. dollars. An ISBN will make your book available for international sale. It will become available to places like http://Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and hundreds of other distributors worldwide. When you self publish you set your own price and your age never becomes a factor as it will be with some traditional publishers. If you decide to self publish everything falls into your hands, from editing to formatting. Lulu provides several services for these publishing details, however the costs can add up for young writers. The good news is that with patience and determination you can do it yourself. Lulu provides templates for formatting your book. If you can find a teacher, friend or parent to help you with editing you are well on your way without breaking the bank. Lulu makes making your book cover as easy as possible although you are responsible for finding your own image if you do not wish to use their images.

Finally, there is nothing like seeing your work in print and the opportunities for young writers are greater than ever. <bio>Simone Mary is a teacher, writer and artist.
Have you joined the ranks of aspiring authors ready to take the next step to self publishing in the digital age of publishing? If so, congratulations! But wait, before you rush off to press, there are some things you should do to prepare your book for successful self-publishing. The preparation step of the self-publishing process includes everything you need to do to your book manuscript before you deliver it to the book printer. This includes deciding your publishing goals.

For example, is your book a personal family history book that you plan to sell to a few friends and family? Or do you plan to mass-market your book to the world? After deciding your market then you should avoid the following common mistakes:

1. Failure to write a Business Plan

This is where your book publishing journey should begin. You don't have to start with a 15-page document. But do create an outline of all the costs that you will encounter in the self-publishing process.

Outline your costs before publication, after publication and everything from the beginning costs to the shipping price of mailing a book. This is the time you decide whether you should print a small amount of books for family or set up a small publishing company by buying a block of ISBNs.

2. Failure to get ISBN Numbers.

An ISBN number is what identifies you as a book publisher. Currently, it is the only way you can be considered a self-publisher in the publishing industry. At the time of this writing, no one can give, assign or sell you ISBNs except RR Bowker, the U.S. ISBN agency.

3. Failure to invest in Book Editing.

Don't cut corners here. Invest in your book; get it professionally edited. Copy or line editing will bring your manuscript up to professional standard. Don't settle for just having your family member take a look at your manuscript.

4. Failure to hire a book designer for book layout.

The book layout is what structures the content of your book and makes it look like a book. Again invest in your book project; this is not the time to settle for anything less than a professional look. If your book looks sloppy, it will limit its success in the market.

5. Failure to invest in cover design.

75% of 300 booksellers reviewed (half from independent bookstores and half from chains) recognized the look and design of the book cover as the most important part. They agreed the jacket is prime real estate for promoting a book. On that note, your book cover design has great importance. It can cause your book marketing campaign to fail or succeed. So, I encourage you to get your book cover professionally designed.

Are you ready to publish your book successfully? Did you consider all your options including a business plan and book cover design? Great! Now that you know how to set up your book for full speed ahead self-publishing, go ahead take the plunge.
You've spent many nights working on your book. You've rewritten it, edited it, and you used a professional proofreader to proof it. Your book is done =96 finally -- and you're ready to send your precious manuscript off to a publisher, thinking that writing it was the hardest part.

In reality, getting your blood, sweat and tears published may be the hardest part of the whole process. You'll need to decide if your book requires a publisher, or if you'd rather self-publish your book. Both venues have pros and cons, some of which I discuss below.

To work with a book publisher, you'll need to send out query letters and/or a book proposal. This is a letter or a few pages briefly describing your text, why your book is unique, characteristics of your target market, and how you can help market your book. Most publishers don't accept unsolicited manuscripts, so you'll need to convince them to read yours, or find a literary agent to represent you. If a book publisher requests that you forward your entire manuscript, you have one foot in the door. Be prepared to send more than one query and don't expect a response next week. An excellent software program to help format your manuscript and create a book proposal is called Wizards For Word at http://www.wizardsforword.com

Publishers look for three things: platform, hook, and execution. This means a writer should have a built-in audience (ideally, a national platform such as a radio or TV show or a column in a major publication), an interesting hook, and strong writing skills.

The problem if you're an unagented author is that most publishers won't take your call or read your proposal. Then even if they do, you'll have a tough time creating a bidding war or running an auction to get the best offer, and you also won't have leverage negotiating the important deal points, such as ancillary rights and royalties.

There are writer's guides that serve as excellent resources to find publishers and literary agents who specialize in your particular genre. These guides list the percentage of new authors published as well as the percentage of sales they pay. You may find pay rates ranging from 5-10% of sales. Some pay on wholesale sales and others on the retail amount. Do the math. Perhaps your book will retail for $14.95 and the publisher will pay 6% on retail. This means you will earn 90 cents per book sold. Of course don't forget that the publisher is doing all the printing, distributing, and marketing of your text.

Another route you may want to consider is self-publishing. Self-publishing requires you to print, distribute and market your book using your money, but you will also retain all profits. There are book printing companies as well as companies that specialize in assisting self-publishers through every step along the way.

Many authors debate which method is better, using a publishing company or self publishing your own book. You know your situation and you know what will work best for you. You'll want to consider how much time or money you have to invest in the project. That should give you an idea which route to take. Using a publisher takes less time on your part, but you'll forfeit some of the royalties by using this method. If you self publish, you'll have to pay "up front costs" and do the initial legwork to begin generating sales for your book. Either way, publishing is your call. With persistence and hard work you can get your book in the marketplace. <bio>Learn how to become a published book author!
<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ebooks" rel="tag">Ebooks are effective means of communicating. They allow you to express your ideas in a unique way that will reach many people. I have recently become an ebook convert, and I want to share with you the reasons that ebooks are the latest successful communication trend.

1. As Technology Advances, Communication Advances.

We live in a digital age. The popularity of blogs shows the influence that the internet has had on our communications. Communication theorists have argued that communication has developed from one-to-one (with pre-printing letters and books), to one-to-many (with the advent of the printing press) to many-to-many (with the internet). You no longer have to be a Harvard professor or famous novelist to reach many people: you can write an ebook and share it with many people. This democratization of knowledge is a step forward in the evolution of communication.

2. Convenience.

Because of the technology behind ebooks, they are immensely convenient. They can be accessed from anywhere. They can be stored, shared, or deleted as you want. You can browse through an ebook while you are at your desk to see if you want to read the book. You can even use the find or search function to find pertinent parts of the book.

Ebooks often contain hyperlinks that direct you to the sources of their information. This is like having interactive footnotes in a book. The hyperlinks in ebooks also make it easier for you find information that is cross-referenced within each volume.

Another convenient aspect of ebooks is their size. Frequently, ebooks are shorter than published hard-copy books. This means that the information is distilled, and easier to access than if you had to search through a printed book.

3. Empowering the Author.

If you were to try to publish a book, or even an article, through traditional publishing modes, you would have to deal with rejections, editors, and restrictions that each press has. With an ebook, you are free to make your choices about how you want to publish your material, and what material gets published. This kind of artistic integrity has all but vanished from the print-publishing industry.

Ebooks allow authors to self-publish without investing too much capital. If you choose to self-publish a printed book, you will have many costs to consider in your overhead. Publishing an e-book can be a relatively inexpensive experience.

4. The Environment.

Gutenberg's printing press revolutionized written communication. Gutenberg's invention, however, was not environmentally friendly. Ebooks, as electronic forms of communications, help to conserve our planet's natural resources. You can write as much as you want and not worry about the forests that are being cut down to share your ideas when you choose to write an e-book.

5. Your Readership.

This article lists many reasons that ebooks are convenient and effective for you, the author. The affordable cost, the artistic integrity, and the powerful new technologies are exciting things for you as an author. However, your readers will also thank you when you choose an ebook. The convenience of access is easier than with a hard-copy book, and as discussed earlier, the information within the book is easier to access.

So, the next time you are considering writing, consider writing an ebook. The next time you want something to read, consider reading an ebook. There is an entire market of books out there waiting to be written, and waiting to be read. Are you ready to join the frontiers of communication? <bio>Jim Estill is the CEO of SYNNEX Canada.
