It can be pretty tough when your credit is bad and it is next to impossible to get credit when you need it. Most major credit card companies will not talk to you, and a lender - well, forget about it. There is a way, though, out of the tough situation with a prepaid credit card. Here is what you can do with a prepaid credit card to help rebuild your credit score.

Need A Bad Credit Rating

One of the best things about a prepaid credit card is that it was designed for people with bad credit. In fact, that is one of the qualifications. There will not be any check on your credit rating, or your employment. Anyone can get one of these credit cards, but you will need to deposit a cash amount equal to the credit limit you want. This lets you know that it operates on a debit basis - no actual credit is given.

Get A Card That Reports To A Credit Bureau

Not many prepaid credit cards actually report to a credit bureau. That is, however, the kind of card that you want to get. While others make having cash handy, it really will not help you (or anyone with bad credit) in the long run.

Watch The Fees

Prepaid credit cards often come with a number of fees. You should compare one card with another in order to get the fewest fees. In order to get a prepaid credit card that reports to a credit bureau, you will probably have to pay an annual fee - could be as high as $100.

Look For Benefits

Most prepaid cards do not come with any benefits, but some do. You can get points, like on a regular credit card, that are useable for a few benefits - like free phone time, and more.

No Credit Card Abuse

Another good thing about these credit cards is that you can never go over your limit, or have to pay any late fees or interest. (Hey, this is sounding better all the time). This means that if it reports to a credit bureau, that it would be impossible to get a lower score than what you may already have with this kind of card.

Easily Put Cash On Your Card

Most prepaid cards will allow you to easily put credit on it from just about anywhere. You can even put your paycheck onto it by Direct Deposit.

Use It Like A Credit Card

A number of these prepaid credit cards can be used in the same way as a credit card. You can set up automatic bill payments, purchase things online, or over the phone. If you want this feature, however, be sure that the ad says that you can do this.

Like any other credit card, you will want to compare features and fees in order to find the best prepaid credit card for your needs. While most of them are similar, the fees vary widely. Since no qualifications are needed, why not get the best? <bio>Joe Kenny writes for the UK personal finance sites http://www.nationsfinance.co.uk/credit_cards/ and also http://www.cardguide.co.uk </bio>

Prepaid cards are one of the newest and most interesting financial products on the market, and they are something that everyone should be made aware of. However, many people do not know what prepaid cards are, and how they can benefit you. If you want to know more about prepaid cards, then here is some advice about their advantages and disadvantages.

What does prepaid mean?

Many of us have prepaid phone cards or SIM cards for our mobiles, but prepaid debit cards are quite a new idea. However, the concept is the same as other prepaid mediums, where you load money onto a card and then you can spend this money at retailers or withdraw the money at an ATM. You load money onto the card using cash, bank transfer or another card.

Are they credit or debit cards?

Prepaid cards are neither credit nor debit cards, but have features similar to both. These are VISA or MasterCard cards usually, and so have the wide usage and security features of a credit card. However, you are not borrowing money, simply using your own money to top up a card and spend on it. They are a financial product that falls in between debit and credit cards. What are the advantages?

The major advantage of a prepaid card is that you can easily keep track of your spending and limit yourself to a certain level of spending each month. Also, you don't have to pay interest and don't have to go through credit checks to get one. All of the funds on the card are completely controlled by the amount of money you wish to put on it. This means there is no risk of borrowing too much and getting into debt.

Who should get a prepaid card?

Prepaid cards can be useful for anyone who wants to control their spending but still have the security and usage features of a credit card. Also, prepaid cards can be very useful for teenagers or children if they need a card. As a parent you can control their spending by only putting on a certain amount each week or month for them to spend, whilst still giving them the freedom and security to purchase items using plastic.

The costs of a prepaid card

Although prepaid cards have many advantages, they can cost you money through various charges and fees. Many prepaid cards carry an application charge as well as a monthly usage charge. If you are paying a monthly service charge, then you need to make sure that other services are given to you for this money, such as helplines or added security. Before getting a prepaid card, you should shop around to find the card that has the lowest fees. Although you are not paying interest, these fees can add up and if you don't use the card a lot could cost you more than you will end up spending. However, if you look around there are some good deals to be had. If you want to control your spending or your child's then getting a prepaid card might be the answer. <bio>Peter Kenny is a writer for creditcards-gb Please visit us at http://www.creditcards-gb.co.uk and http://www.thriftyscot.co.uk/Credit-Cards/ </bio>

The difference between a credit card and prepaid debit card is that with a credit card you are borrowing the money to pay back later, while with a prepaid debit card you are subtracting your own money being held at the financial institution.

Most people realize that it's almost impossible to get by without a credit card of some sort. Yet, there are millions of American families that have no bank account and no credit card. They often pay their bills either in cash or by money orders. For these people, a prepaid debit card may be the answer.

A prepaid debit card looks just like a regular credit card and normally carries a credit card logo such as Visa or MasterCard. Retailers accept these just like any other card. The difference is at the time you use the card, it is instantaneously deducted from your funds on deposit with the your bank.

Advantages of a prepaid debit card are that it's safer than carrying cash, it is accepted throughout the world where the credit card logo is displayed, and you can use it to pay bills by phone or online. You can also keep track of your funds for free on the internet. Prepaid debit card offers can include rewards programs and overdraft safety.

Obtaining a prepaid debit card is easier than applying for a credit card, especially with an easy online application. The approval is guaranteed as there is no credit check and no employment is required. After applying for a prepaid debit card, you can receive your card in as little as three days.

There will be billions of dollars spent this year using prepaid plastic, including gift cards and renewable debit cards. To those who don't want to worry about owing money or paying a bill, and still others who have less than perfect credit, a prepaid debit card may be the ideal choice. <bio>Bradley Carson is the webmaster and editor of Apply Online For a Credit Card at http://www.cards-king.com.
Finding free prepaid credit cards is something that everybody wants nowadays, as these are great devices to have around. However, here's something you should know-prepaid cards are never free, for the simple fact that they are prepaid.

In other words, the amount you have to spend on them is in direct proportion to how much you initially put onto them, or pay for them. For example, if you pay $100 for a prepaid credit card, you have a $100 limit to use with that one. If you find a free prepaid card, you will have a $0 limit, and therefore it's useless anyway.

Not every prepaid credit card is created equal. For example, with many of them there are additional fees you have to consider even after the initial deposit you make on them. For example, some charge a monthly or annual fee for using the, in addition to a transaction fee each time you use it to make a purchase.

Therefore, in this sense there are free prepaid credit cards, in that the only price you pay is the amount that goes towards the limit on it. when looking for the right one, always be sure that the only fee you are paying is the deposit amount, and make sure there are none of these hidden fees, which can dramatically spike up the amount you will be paying.

With that said, of course, you don't have to worry about any additional fees tacked on-the amount you spend all goes towards your credit limit, and you don't spend anything just for the card itself. Having prepaid credit cards is very important in certain situations where you don't have your credit card handy, but can't pay with cash.

An obvious example of this would be buying something online, as you obviously can't spend cash, but if you either don't have your current credit with you, or it's over it's monthly limit, the only way you can buy is having a prepaid credit card. To find these, just go down to your local right aid or Wal-Mart, and you can find many available.

In addition, going on the internet will help you find many of these on hand as well, although you will have to wait until they are shipped to you, which in some instances can take over a week. I'd recommend you just go to your local store if you are in a hurry.

Also, it's generally wise to bring these with you on trips, as in the case of booking a hotel or other things where cash is not accepted. Particularly with hotels, they generally require a credit card in order to reserve your room, and usually don't accept cash for this.

If you don't have a credit card on hand, a prepaid one is your only bet. Particularly if you are booking a hotel, you can generally only do so with a credit card, as they won't accept cash until you are ready to check out. Use these tips to find the right free prepaid credit cards for you.<bio>To learn more important info about free prepaid credit cards, check out http://www.internetcreditinfo.com, a popular online finance site that teaches you how to improve your credit, eliminate debt, and achieve financial freedom.</bio>

It isn't a riddle, but it sure has the makings of one. You want to give your teenager a little spending power. You know your daughter could use the money to order things online. You believe giving her a plastic will help her learn financial responsibility, too. She can teach herself the finer points of budgeting and being accountable for her purchases. There are, however, two obstacles to your plan. The first is your daughter's age. She is only thirteen. As a minor, she cannot enter into credit card transactions. The second is her self-control. You're not sure how much self-restraint she could exercise, particularly when faced with a tempting array of bikinis, handbags, and dresses. So, what do you do? What do you get your daughter? The answer is made up of four words: free prepaid credit cards.

Prepaid What? Free prepaid credit cards work in much the same way other prepaid cards do. You deposit a certain amount of money. Then, you get to use the card only to the extent your previously deposited amount allows you to. So you see, your cash balance works exactly like your other plastics' spending limit. Your purchasing power is only as good as your cash balance.

Free prepaid credit cards are the perfect way for you to keep your spending within reasonable limits. While the usual plastic lets you swipe away to your heart's content, free prepaid credit cards are only useful for as long as you do not exceed the prepaid amount loaded onto your card. This makes it the perfect plastic for people with spending problems, students on a budget, or teenagers who are being taught money lessons by their anxious parents.

A Credit Card That Isn't Really a Credit Card Free prepaid credit cards are classified as credit cards. Many claim, however, that this is a misnomer. A prepaid credit card is not really a credit card. Why? To begin with, no credit is offered by the card issuer. The cardholder spends money that has been stored in the card through a previous deposit. It is precisely for this reason that free prepaid credit cards may be issued to minors. Because there is no credit involved, minors are free to own their personal prepaid credit cards.

So Why Get Free Prepaid Credit Cards? There are advantages to getting free prepaid credit cards. The most obvious is that they are very easy to qualify for. In fact, they can be bought over the Internet. Additionally, many providers do not run credit checks or investigate your income. Because it's your own money you're putting up, providers do not put you through hell and back just so you could use your card.

Then, too, you do not pay interest charges on your free prepaid credit card like you would with a regular plastic. Why would you? You are, after all, using your own money. Another advantage is that free prepaid credit cards look exactly like regular Visa or Mastercards They are honored everywhere a regular card is. Furthermore, some free prepaid credit cards help you rebuild credit. Each time you use it, you are creating higher credit rating for yourself.

We live in a world where our buying power is largely based on our credit rating. Clearly, credit is good, high credit rating is to die for, and free prepaid credit cards are for all of us who have spending problems, have been remiss with paying off debts, or are below 18 years of age. <bio>Wanna know more about free prepaid credit cards ( http://www.creditcardmonitor.org/prepaid.php )?
You can think of a prepaid credit card as a loaded gift card that is good just about anywhere. The functionality of a prepaid credit card is really quite simple. It acts just like a normal credit card except it has a limit to it. Once you load up your card, it will be good anywhere the brand is accepted. Each purchase will deduct from the overall total until you finally run the card out. Some prepaid cards are able to just be reloaded, but others will just be used up.

In this case you just have to buy a new one. There are many instances when it is just going to be far more convenient to use a regular credit card. Everyone should know that purchasing gas is much quicker if you can just pay at the pump. It is also not exactly a wise idea to carry hundreds of dollars in cash around with you.

The real question then just comes to why you should use a prepaid version. A prepaid credit card can be particularly handy for a wide variety of people. First, a prepaid card is great for a teenager who really needs to learn proper spending habits. Every parent should want their child to develop healthy spending habits that will greatly benefit them throughout their adult lives.

Unfortunately, the power of a credit card is sometimes too great and debt can build up very quickly. Before you know it, their credit is damaged and they have to pay high interest payments on a bunch of worthless purchases. In this case, they could have just been given a prepaid credit card. This card would have locked them out at the amount that the parents gave them while still giving them the convenience and freedom of a credit card.

Second, it will come in handy for any person who wants to stay within their budget. A good financial planner will be able to set aside how much money he is going to need on their credit card throughout the month. In order to forcibly stay within their budget they can choose to just buy prepaid credit cards. By doing this, they will be able to avoid the high interest costs and fees incurred from using a credit card.

Third, it can be very good for someone who has bad credit. A prepaid credit card just requires money in a bank account. A person who has made bad credit decision in the past will have great difficulty in getting a good credit card in the present. Prepaid cards are the perfect go between for convenience while they wait for their credit to recover.

Finally, it is perfect for someone who wants to keep their information safe online. If information from a prepaid credit card is stolen, they will only be able to use the money on the card. This greatly limits one's potential loss. Anyone who wants to make a few purchases online should greatly benefit from a prepaid card.

A prepaid credit card is a great blend of function and convenience for just about anyone who wants something different from the standard card. <bio>Want Prepaid Cards?
Some people I know have trouble sticking to their budget in a variety of areas. Other people have trouble even making a budget that is realistic for their lifestyle. One of the biggest spending problems that people in today's world face is having the self-control and discipline to limit their use of the credit card. If you are one of these people that creates a bill larger than life with your credit card each month, consider seriously using a prepaid credit card.

Using a prepaid credit card is a beautiful thing. Very simply, a prepaid credit card is one that you make a payment on before you spend money. However much you put onto your prepaid credit card becomes your spending limit. A deposit of one hundred dollars onto your prepaid credit card will limit your spending to that amount.

Sound restricting? In some senses, having a prepaid credit card instead of a regular credit card is restricting. You can no longer go out and spend money on anything and everything that catches your eye. Careful consideration must be given to each purchase because of the limit that your prepaid credit card imposes on you. In that way, a prepaid credit card is absolutely a restriction on your spending. On the other hand, a prepaid credit card gives you great freedom.

A prepaid credit card gives you the freedom to clearly set your own spending boundaries and to enjoy shoppping within those boundaries. For anyone who has ever gotten in trouble by spending too much, a prepaid credit card can be your ticket to enjoyable and risk free shopping. It can be very freeing to know that you can spend a certain amount of money and not have any consequences to deal with later. A prepaid credit card makes shopping fun and enjoyable because you know that you have already paid the bill.

Still not convinced? I challenge you to try exchanging your regular credit cards for a prepaid credit card for the next six months. Sit down and create a budget for yourself. If you need help creating a reasonable budget, get some. Having financial freedom is worth any amount of initial work it might be. Once your budget is created, put the designated amount of money on your prepaid credit card. Then shop away, knowing that each of the purchases you make is within the boundaries that you have established for yourself. I guarentee that after six months of this kind of restriction you will be more free with your money than you've ever been. Trust me. Get a prepaid credit card today. <bio>Julee Mitchelsin has been using a prepaid credit cards for years.
Have you been burned by too much credit card debt lately? Too scared of credit? Had enough of credit card bills? If plastic was a way of life for you and you're thinking of looking for a good alternative that is as convenient and easy to use, then a prepaid credit card is the perfect choice.

What are prepaid credit cards? If you've used a prepaid phone card or sim card before, then you already have a basic idea of how a prepaid credit card works. You just need to 'load' it with money and then use it as you would any regular credit card. It can be used to pay your purchases at any store and is also accepted for many online transactions. You may also withdraw cash from any ATM.

Essentially, a prepaid credit card functions as a debit card, except that a prepaid credit card is a separate account. A debit card is linked to either a savings or a checking account.

You just need to open a prepaid credit card account and deposit money, just like you would with a regular bank account. After you pay the fees, which could amount from $5 to $50, the bank then issues you a prepaid credit card.

Many banks offer prepaid credit cards under Visa or Mastercard.

Other providers include Western Union, Greendotonline and Rush Card. Prepaid credit cards can also be purchased at selected stores, malls and even gas stations.

Where's the credit? The term 'prepaid credit card' is probably a misnomer because there's no credit involved when you use it in any transaction. With a credit card, you pay with the money you don't yet have, but which your banker or credit card company guarantees for you.

With a prepaid credit card, you only spend the money you loaded the card with. For example, if you have $300 on your prepaid credit card, you can't purchase a $325 item. It's that simple.

Who can use a prepaid credit card? A prepaid credit card is a good tool to help you curb your shopping expenses. It is also a good alternative to a regular credit card that you didn't get due to bad credit or for any other reason. A prepaid credit card lets you enjoy the usage benefits a regular credit card can offer.

Advantages Spending limit -- a prepaid credit card will only allow you to spend the amount that is left on your account, nothing more. You don't have to go beyond a credit limit because the only limit you have is self-imposed. If you load just $500 on your prepaid credit card account monthly, that's the amount you'll get to spend, until the next time you load it again.

Absence of debt -- regular credit cards let you 'charge' purchases and then pay them back at a later date in full or make a minimum payment with interest. Every time you use a credit card, you incur a debt. With a prepaid credit card, you don't charge purchases, but pay for them outright, on cash basis. You also do not have to worry about monthly billing statements.

Fast processing -- you're not required to undergo a credit check and there is no waiting to get your prepaid credit card approved. There is also no age limit.

Disadvantages Spending limit -- the advantage of a prepaid credit card is also a disadvantage. While regular credit cards allow you to buy large purchases (such as appliances and furnitures), a prepaid credit card limits your buying power to the amount currently deposited in your prepaid account. Once it's gone, you can't buy more until you deposit money into that account.

Fees -- each time you make a deposit to your account, you pay an additional but nominal fee. Some prepaid cards also charge you a minimum fee for every transaction.

Limit of use -- you can't use a prepaid credit card to pay regular automatic payments and some smaller retailers don't accept transactions made with prepaid credit cards. A prepaid card will also not help you establish your credit, much less rebuild it. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
If you're having trouble getting approved for a credit card, a prepaid debit card may be just what you need. Unlike many regular credit cards, prepaid debit cards do not perform a credit check when you apply. So if you've had trouble with credit or have no credit, you'll still be approved for a prepaid debit card. And these cards come with other benefits as well. A prepaid credit card can be the first step down the path to better credit.

How Prepaid Debit Cards Work

Prepaid debit cards are similar to both credit cards and debit cards. After getting approved for one, you're able to deposit money into your new account. This is often referred to as "loading." The amount of money you load on to your card is equal to your line of credit. When you swipe the card, the money is subtracted from the amount you deposited. As long as you have money on your card, you can make purchases. You can use the card anywhere that debit cards are accepted.

Having a prepaid debit card is similar to opening a checking account on a card. You can deposit money whenever you need to, and spend within your account limits. This system helps keep you far away from credit card debt.

Benefits of Prepaid Debit Cards

One big advantage of prepaid debit cards is that they are safer to carry than cash. You can shop for groceries, get gas, and purchase other items without the hassle of dollar bills crowding your wallet. And prepaid debit cards are accepted all over. If you have a card with the MasterCard or Visa logo, it can be used worldwide.

Another benefit of a prepaid debit card is that you don't have to worry about paying monthly credit card bills. Since the amount at your disposal is equal to the balance in your account, you don't spend money that you don't have. This saves the headaches involved with high monthly bills and balances.

It's easy to load money on to your prepaid debit card. Most cards let you reload any amount of money by calling and authorizing a transfer of funds. You can also do this online or through an ATM. This lets you control how much you want in your account.

Exploring your Options

Companies offer different types of prepaid debit cards. Before you sign up for one, check for additional fees and features. One card that lets you transfer money for free is the ReadyDebit card. With no credit checks and no security deposits required, you can begin using the card right away. It's issued through Visa, so you can use it wherever Visa is accepted.

Another one to check out is the Prepaid Visa RushCard. With this card, there are no annual or monthly fees. You can use the card online or over the phone to make purchases. The Prepaid Visa RushCard also offers some shopping discounts at participating retailers.

A prepaid debit card may be just what you need to give your credit a boost. Check through the different options through credit card websites. The application process is easy. Once you get the card, you can start taking steps to get back on track in the credit card world. <bio>To View Prepaid Debit Card Offers click the following link: http://www.credit-card-surplus.com/discover.php ..
The numbers vary on how many credit cards each person carries. I've seen it stated anywhere from five to fifteen counting bank cards, gas cards, and department store charge cards. But there are still those hold outs, people who don't have any credit cards at all.

If you're one of these lucky people and reading this on the internet, chances are you've seen something online that you wanted to buy, but the problem was you needed at least an online credit card to pay for it. That's where the prepaid debit card can come in handy for those wanting to avoid credit card debt.

With a regular credit card, the issuer lends the money to the consumer who in turn pays for the charge at a later date. There are those who pay the entire bill due upon receipt of their monthly statement. However, many of us run a balance each month and pay an affordable portion of the bill and are charged an agreed upon interest for the outstanding balance. Believe me when I say, it's easy for that balance to creep up before you finally realize it's in the thousands of dollars of an unsecured debt you then owe.

For those of you who don't want to take a chance on getting yourself in that situation, you avoid credit cards completely. But that can be a problem if you want to take advantage of so many outstanding offers available on the internet. Without an online credit card you may want to look into a prepaid debit card.

With a prepaid debit card you deposit the funds with the financial institution in advance. You receive a card that looks the same as any other credit card and you can use it just like a regular card wherever their logo is displayed. The difference is the amount charged is then taken from the credit balance you maintain with the issuer.

Many of you don't like to carry that much cash around. I know with me, I can go thru cash like water. But if I have to charge it, even with a prepaid debit card, I think twice. Plus I can keep better track of where that money goes. Another advantage with a prepaid debit card is it's accepted at all ATM machines so that you have continuous access to your funds just like cash.

So if you are one of those who has managed to escape this long without a credit card and would like to take advantage of the new freedom of shopping from comfort of your own home on the internet, you might take a moment of your time to shop online for a credit card or at the least, a prepaid debit card. With a prepaid debit card, rather than you paying interest, you receive interest on your credit balance. <bio>Bradley Carson is the owner of Apply Online For A Credit Card and can be contacted at http://www.cards-king.com where you can find the latest selection of credit card offers. </bio>

Over the past couple of years an increasing number of consumers have turned to prepaid credit cards for one of a number of reasons, and these plastic cards are able to offer a range of benefits to consumers. A number of providers offer prepaid credit cards and some recent additional to the prepaid credit card market include Tesco and Paypal. Like a prepaid phone a prepaid credit card has to be loaded with cash before it can be used, and once it has been loaded you can start using it to make purchases in person, online, or via the telephone.

There are many reasons why people decide to opt for a prepaid credit card rather than a standard credit card. These credit cards offer much of the convenience and ease of standard credit cards but have some key differences. Also, you should remember that there are certain charges associated with these cards such as cash withdrawal charges, and you may find that some providers charge to put money on the card and to purchase the card in the first place, as well as to reload the card with money.

There are many people that cannot get a standard credit card or even a debit card in some cases, such as those with very bad credit ratings. Life can be very difficult and inconvenient if you have to rely on cash and cheques, and often this hampers your ability to make purchases by phone or online. Plastic payment cards offer convenience, ease, and security, and with a prepaid credit card even those with damaged credit who cannot get traditional credit cards and debit cards can enjoy this ease and convenience.

Another reason why some people decide to opt for a prepaid credit card is because they want to enjoy the ease and convenience of using a plastic card to make payments by phone, online, and in person, but they do not want to risk getting into unmanageable levels of debt, which is something that often happens with a standard credit card. With a prepaid credit card the money has to be put onto the card before you use the card, and you can only use up the amount of money that you put onto the card, so you basically can't spend what you haven't got, which means that you are less likely to fall into spiralling debt.

Many parents like their kids to have some sort of financial back up in case of an emergency, but most parents that provide their kids with a standard credit card are just asking for trouble! With a prepaid credit card you can ensure that you kids have access to limited funds, which enables you to enjoy the peace of mind that comes with damage limitation! At the same time you can help to teach the kids the importance of using cards responsibly with these cards, so that they don't run into debt problems with credit cards later in life.<bio>Peter Kenny has been writing financial articles for 10 years and is a writer for The Thrifty Scot, please visit us at Credit Cards and Personal Loans Visit 0% Balance Transfers</bio>

Perhaps the first thing to be said is that a prepaid credit card is something of a misnomer. If something has been prepaid, then it is not strictly speaking, of course, a "credit" transaction. But the name has caught on because prepaid "credit" cards can be used -- for most intents and purposes -- just like a standard credit card.

The principle behind the prepaid credit card is rather akin to the -- now old-fashioned -- idea of a book or record token, or a prepaid phone card. In other words, a payment is made in advance against an anticipated future purchase and, provided there are sufficient funds represented by the token or the prepaid card, the transaction can proceed without the need for any cash payment at the time of the purchase.

Prepayment is made by "loading" the card with cash paid in at the Post Office, a bank, a PayPoint or Payzone till. This can be made through an employer, a transfer through a bank, or by using a standard credit card. The prepaid card is then ready to be used in just the same way as a normal credit card would be used.

To complete a purchase, you will need to key in a PIN number at the shop counter and the amount of the transaction is deducted straight away from the balance on the card. The prepaid card can be used in the same way for shopping online.

There are a number of benefits to using a prepaid credit card:

• Perhaps the most important is the control it exercises over spending. Since all purchases are prepaid, it means that you are accumulating no debts through its use and spending is limited to however much has been pre-loaded onto the card:

• It can be a good way of controlling a child's spending, for example, with a monthly statement of how the money has been spent;

• Carrying a pre-paid card is also somewhat more convenient and safer to carry than cash;

• For similar reasons, many such cards are also an ideal alternative to travellers' cheques when travelling abroad. Some providers of prepaid credit cards now also offer currencies such as Euros and US Dollars for easier use when withdrawing the pre-loaded cash abroad. Once again, they are more convenient and probably safer than carrying local currency.

Because prepaid credit cards involve no actual spending on credit, an applicant's credit history or rating is irrelevant to the card-provider, so they will be issued without the usual credit reference checks.

Of course there are charges involved in obtaining and using a prepaid credit card and these are probably the main drawback. Some providers may charge an application fee when the card is first issued and others might charge a monthly subscription fee. There may be fees for loading the card with cash and/or fees for making purchases and withdrawing cash. If the card is lost or stolen, some providers might charge for the issue of a replacement and still other providers might charge a renewal fee when the existing card expires.

When considering just how useful prepaid credit cards might be for you and your family, therefore, it would be important to consider how much you are likely to pay for their use.<bio>Confused.com is one of the UK's biggest and most popular price comparison services. Some card issuers also accept automatic account loading on a monthly basis.

With normal credit cards, you are not aware of the amount available on the card. Sometimes, dealers may take a small amount first and charge the full amount later. As a result, an overlimit fee is charged, which results in negative balance.

Hence, students need to monitor their credit balance and transactions on their credit cards, as they have to pay the negative balance. This also helps them to beware about financial stability and budgeting at a young age.

Benefits:

Some prepaid student credit cards allow students to build their credit history. You can apply for such a prepaid credit card, if you have a social security number. Social security number plays an important role in applying for this type of credit card. As a result, they are reported to credit bureau agencies. You need to maintain a positive credit history by keeping the card active and avoiding negative balances. Good credit records help students to get credit cards with lower rate of interest and in getting finances such as loans and mortgages.

Prepaid student cards provide students the flexibility of using credit cards without worrying about card debts. Students learn to maintain economic constancy and develop positive credit history with the help of these cards.

These credit cards function in the same manner as normal credit cards do. You can buy goods and services from different locations with these cards. They look and act as a normal card and are very similar to debit cards. You have to put some money in a pre-determined bank account to make use of these cards. If you fail to put money on the card, you will not be able to use the card.

Other Points To Remember:

Minors, who are unable to obtain cards, can get these types of credit cards. Usually, teenagers use prepaid student credit cards the most to build credit history, while studying.

Some disadvantages of these cards are:

1. There is a monthly convenience fee.
2. You have to pay an interest fee.
3. You do not get a credit.
5. They make it difficult to shop with a low interest rate.<bio>Find a student credit card and more of Tom's work at FINDcollegecards.</bio>

The question is which credit cards are right for you. Not all credit cards are the same. Some have a fixed rate, which simply means the APR doesn't change, or at least not that often. Most credit cards are open lines of credit, that you can use to make purchases. Most of them are unsecured, while a few are secured or prepaid. Prepaid credit cards are offered by a lot of major companies and act some what like a debit card, because you will need to open an account and your credit card will be funded by this account. These are great for people starting out with little or no credit or rebuilding credit. Low interest rate cards, are ideal for people with good credit that would like to take advantage of reduced interest rates. Some credit cards have an annual fee, while others do not. Some earn reward points. Store credit cards work similarly to regular credit cards, except there is no annual fee, and the card is only good for purchases at that particular store. These store cards are also effective at rebuilding credit.

You would be surprised at the overall number of people who just don't bother to compare credit cards before signing up for them. You should compare the different features, different benefits, and details of various credit cards. Find, compare, and read reviews before you decide. You wouldn't buy a car without comparing details or benefits, and you never buy a house without looking at several first. Just apply these same principles to credit cards.

Credit cards are convenient for customers and can be beneficial if used correctly. They are the perfect way to finance larger items while still earning points for everyday purchases. Just shop around first, and get the right credit card for you. <bio>PAT WOOD IS THE AUTHOR AND OWNER OF THE WEBSITE http://www.best-creditcards.info SHE HAS BEEN IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY SINCE 1987 AND HAS WRITTEN SEVERAL ARTICLES ON CREDIT AND DEBT </bio>

If you are worried about getting a credit card or have a credit card and it is not working out for you, then maybe you should look at some of the alternatives on offer. There are a growing number of card alternatives to credit cards, some of which may be a better option for you.

Why look at alternatives?

There are plenty of reasons why looking at credit card alternatives are a good idea. Although credit cards have their uses, they also have many dangers and problems. Credit cards tempt you to spend more than you can afford, and then the high interest rates mean your debt increases quickly.

Credit cards can also be difficult to get if you have poor credit or you are young and have never borrowed before. Therefore, it pays to look at the alternative card options.

Charge cards

Charge cards are the most popular alternative to credit cards. Although many people believe that cards like Diner's Club and American Express are credit cards, they are in fact charge cards. Charge cards are similar to credit cards apart from the fact you have to pay the balance off in full before a set time period expires. This is useful for people who know they can pay balances off each month or couple of months.

Credit limits on charge cards can be high, which is good if you need to make an expensive purchase. The problems with charge cards are that they are not as widely accepted as credit cards, and if you do not pay the balance off the interest rates and charges are extremely high

Debit cards

Another alternative to credit cards are debit cards. Debit cards can be used in much the same way as a credit card, but instead of having credit and paying money off each month, debit cards take money directly from your bank account. You can only spend the amount that you have in your account.

The value of debit cards is that you do not overspend, because you are only spending what you can afford. There are also no interest rates because you are not borrowing money. Debit cards are also as widely accepted as credit cards. The problem with a debit card is exactly its strength; you cannot spend more than you have. This is a problem if you need to buy high value items. Also, the security and buyer protection for debit cards is much lower than for credit cards.

Prepaid cards

One of the newest alternatives to credit cards are prepaid cards. Prepaid cards work like a credit card, with all the security features and spending capabilities. However, they also have the features of a debit card in that you do not borrow money, and only spend what you can afford. You prepay money on to the card, which you can top up much like you do for mobile phone credit. You can then use the money on the card for credit purchases.

These types of cards are especially useful for teenagers and young adults, who need some form of card but who also have to control their spending. Parents can monitor and control a child's spending by only putting a certain amount each month onto the card.

Although prepaid cards cannot offer the credit you need to buy expensive items, they do offer protection and security as well as stopping you from getting into debt. If you are having problems with your credit card spending, then getting a debit or prepaid card could be a good option for you. <bio>Peter Kenny is a writer for creditcards-gb For additional articles and an extensive resource for everything about credit cards, please visit us at http://www.creditcards-gb.co.uk and http://www.thriftyscot.co.uk/Credit-Cards/ </bio>

With so many consumers looking for ways to rebuild their credit, secured and prepaid credit cards are growing in popularity. Some people swear by them, and others try to avoid them. If you're new to credit cards, you may have wondered how a prepaid card differs from a secured card, and how either kind can be used to build credit.

Secured credit cards work much like regular credit cards, but with less risk to the card issuer. The cardholder deposits money into an account, which is used to secure a line of credit. Typically, the cardholder needs to deposit enough money to cover 100-200% of the card's credit limit. For example, a one thousand dollar deposit would result in a credit limit of five hundred to one thousand dollars.

Secured cardholders are responsible for timely payments, just like regular cardholders. This is a good thing, because it teaches good repayment habits and helps to establish a positive payment history =96 a very important part of rebuilding damaged credit. If a secured cardholder does default on a payment, the card issuer is protected; they can recover their loss by taking it out of the cardholder's deposit account.

Critics of secured credit cards point out the difficulty of coming up with a lump sum of cash to use as the deposit, and they do have a point; if cash is that tight, perhaps it isn't the best time to get a credit card of any type.

By contrast, prepaid credit cards are not actually credit cards at all. They look like them, and can be used like them, but they are really more similar to debit cards. The cardholder deposits money into an account and the prepaid card is then used to draw on these funds. No actual credit is offered by the card issuer. Setup fees and small monthly fees usually apply.

Prepaid cards can be issued to minors. These cards are popular with parents of teenagers who want their kids to have access to a credit card, but one with a definite spending limit in place. No large, up-front deposits are required to obtain a prepaid credit card. The prepaid card limit is up to the purchaser, who can load the card's account with an amount of their choosing.

Prepaid cards can also be used to establish or rebuild credit. Some issuers give out cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo on them, and these cards can be used anywhere those brands are accepted. Setup fees and monthly fees vary by issuer, so do a bit of research to find the best prepaid card for you. You will find that your options are plentiful, and competition between issuers is steep =96 which is good news for potential cardholders.

Secured and prepaid credit cards are similar in form and function, with a few notable differences. If your credit is damaged or nonexistent, these cards present an opportunity to improve your situation. If you have a teen or young adult with an allowance, but don't want to worry with cash or checks, prepaid cards can be a safe and convenient way to store their money. Likewise, if you have trouble limiting your own spending, you might want to try one of these cards.

But if your credit is average or better, and you're able to control your spending and pay off your credit card balance each month, you might be better off going for a standard, unsecured credit card. The interest rate and fees will almost certainly be lower, and you won't have to worry about putting up a big deposit. There are many available cards to meet many needs. A little research should turn up the card that best meets yours. <bio>This article has been provided courtesy of Creditor Web, http://www.creditorweb.com </bio>

Credit cards are widely used in the United States that some establishments no longer accept cash purchases.

A person who does not wish to be in a scenario where he has to do an emergency purchase but could not do so because he does not have a credit card should try considering the possibility of getting a card for the sake of his sanity.

Some people who do not have credit cards now used to own one or two plastics. However they may have failed to pay for the cards and ended up having bad credit. Some people want to get credit cards but are hesitant because they have unpaid loans or credit.

These people are classified by lending and credit card companies as bad credit.

It means that credit card companies and other lending companies will most probably turn down any application from a bad credit because it is considered a credit risk.

It is difficult to apply even for a bank account if a person has bad credit. It is even more difficult for a person with bad credit to apply for a credit card. Financial and similar applications will require companies to look into the credit status of a person. And when the companies see that a person has become a credit risk then there is a great possibility that his application would be denied.

But a person with bad credit can still have a chance to b e given a credit card. Some companies do not easily judge a bad credit but instead they allow the applicant to answer several questions. When he gets a passing mark which indicates that that the person will most likely pay his debts then he may get credit after all.

A person with bad credit should be prepared to be turned down by some if not almost all companies providing credit. This may be natural but the applicant should not get discouraged because there are plenty of lenders and credit cards companies out there who may have less stringent rules about granting credit.

The bad credit status may look like a red flag on the record of a person but there are other indicators and factors being considered by some credit companies aside from that record. Some lenders may consider the fact that an applicant has a bank account which he has been maintaining for certain period of time.

A person who has bad credit can apply for a credit card personally and even online through the Internet. The online method of applying for a credit card makes the application more efficient and easy on the part of the applicant. No longer does she have to face the staff of the credit company who may treat her indifferently because of her bad credit.

Those who have bad credits but who would like to apply for a credit card have plenty of options like getting a prepaid credit card. Getting a prepaid credit card is one way of beating creditors who do not approve credit cards for bad credits.

The prepaid credit card works much the same way like the other credit cards although the person has to pay the card ahead or pour in some cash before he make his purchases. Prepaid credit cards are easier to get because they do not involve credit check. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
Gas prices have doubled since last year and motorists are embracing every gas saving tip thrown their way. There are quite a number out there, from improving driving habits, driving hybrid cars to using gas cards. Gas cards however, have been proven to really save money on gas. But before you go out and get a gas card, know that there are two types of cards- prepaid and credit, and each has its own features.

A prepaid gas card is a card that you can preload to your desired amount. The savings from prepaid gas card is gained up front. When you load your card, you load at a discount or pay less than the amount on the card. This card is good to use for people on a tight budget; your miles on the car and visits to the gas pumps is limited since there is a limit on the amount on the card. However, this still involves discipline on your part since you can easily reload.

The downside to using this card is the expiration date. Most cards have short holding periods or expire in such a short period. Loosing the card is another thing. The balance on your card is irrecoverable and this will be a big dent on the budget if the balance is quite a large.

A gas credit card on the other hand, works just like an ordinary credit card. The advantage over ordinary credit cards is that you save on gas purchases. Gas credit cards offer a 2% to 5% rebate on every gas purchase, depending on the card company. Rebates or rewards points are usually in the form of cash back which can be credited to the existing card. While other cards offer to convert rewards points into airline tickets, affiliated merchandise and gift certificates. These are equally attractive rewards but it is the cash back reward that tops them all. Cash back rewards can be used to purchase gas and still earn rebates no it. That would be compounding your savings, rebate on a rebate!

The downside to gas credit cards is you have to be vigilant in paying your bill in full and on time every billing period. If not, the maintaining balance will be charged by the applicable annual percentage rate. Rates range from 9.99% to 16.99% and this could easily undermine you savings.

Gas credit cards are preferable than prepaid cards because of the variety and amount of the rewards points or rebates. You also don't have to work around the balance of the card which is advantageous for emergencies. Staying on your gas budget is actually dependent on you alone and not on the card type.

For your gas money savings, start using gas cards. Choose a card-prepaid or credit, that better suits your gas spending habits. But whatever card you go with-a prepaid or gas credit card, you are sure of your gas money savings. Gas cards are a sure win!<bio>GasCardsGalore.com offers free applications for gas credit cards online.
People have to start their financial learning at some point in their lives, and this usually starts when they are children or young teenagers. But what sort of financial products are good for teenagers, if anything at all? One on hand you need to teach them the value of money, but on the other hand they need some form of card or cash in order to start being independent. If you are unsure what type is right for your children, then here is some advice on credit cards for teenagers.

Stay away from normal credit

If you have a child, then you should really stay away from traditional credit cards, because these types of cards do not promote responsible spending. Although a credit card would allow a child to make mistakes about spending and learn from them, simply giving them a line of credit will probably end in disaster. You have no way of stopping them from spending the whole limit in one go, and they are putting you and themselves in debt.

Prepaid cards

Despite normal credit cards being a bad idea, there is a new type of card on the market that is being targeted at children. These cards are known as prepaid cards, and have most of the facilities of a credit card; except that you put money on the card in the same way you put money on a mobile phone. Instead of giving your child a credit card, you can put a certain amount of money on the card each week or month and then the child can use the card as they see fit.

Benefits of prepaid cards

The main benefit of a prepaid card is that it combines the freedom of having a card with the ability to control spending. This makes it ideal for parents who want to give their children a level of financial responsibility but still have the means to control the amount they spend and on what. By having a card with a statement, the parent can see exactly what their child is spending their money on and when. This is a very useful tool in helping to educate children on money expenditure. Also, prepaid cards are safer than having your child carry around cash, plus it also allows them to make purchases online.

Drawbacks of prepaid cards

Although many believe these cards are better for children than other financial products, there are still question marks over whether they are a good idea. Although they are touted as helping children to learn about finance, this can be done in other ways apart from giving out a card. Also, keeping track of spending is not always easy, as some of the cards allow cash withdrawals, meaning that they could spend their money on anything. Also, there is the danger that parents will put too much money on the cards, which will have the opposite effect on teaching children about money and simply make them believe they can spend what they like. Also, there are fees involved in these cards, such as an application fee and top up fees. Although these cards might be good for some families, you should think carefully about the benefits and drawbacks before deciding on whether or not you want your child to have such a card. <bio>Peter Kenny is a writer for creditcards-gb Please visit us at http://www.creditcards-gb.co.uk and http://www.thriftyscot.co.uk/Credit-Cards/ </bio>
