We all enjoy soaking or swimming in a warm crystal clear pool or hot tub yet at times keeping that sparkle can be a trying experience. Keeping your pools chemicals in the proper range is not only necessary to maintain that sparkle but also to keep your pool or hot tub safe for swimmers.

There are three basic ways to keep your pool clean and safe for swimming the traditional chlorine system, biguanide and mineral systems each are safe and effective for use in outdoor pools and hot tubs. Each system needs to be used independently of the other so which ever system you start using you must continue to use that system. You will also need to purchase the proper testing equipment for your system.

The old standard chlorine is available almost every place from your local pool supply store to Wal-Mart it is relatively cheap and easy to monitor and use. The big drawbacks of chlorine are it is harsh on your skin and can cause bathing suits and hair color to fade. Stabilized chlorine should be used in a pool or hot tub that is exposed to sunlight if your spa is inside or is not in direct sunlight non stabilized chlorine can be used.

The next type of pool sanitizers are the mineral systems these release minerals such as copper, zinc and silver into the water to keep the pool or hot tub algae and bacteria free. Generally the mineral system does use a small amount of chlorine to make sure the system is efficacious.

The third type of pool sanitizer is the "Bio" type of sanitizers such as Bioguard and BioDex. These all liquid sanitizers are very easy to use but they do require a specific testing unit and can not be used with chlorine. These sanitizers do not have the same harsh effects of chlorine and do not bleach out hair and swim suits.

Every type of pool sanitizers requires an oxidizer, the oxidizer or shock treatment removes the oils, lotions and other unwanted contaminations form the pool. Not all shock treatments are the same although monopersulfate which is an oxygen based oxidizer. Chlorine based shock treatments are also oxygen based. Chlorine shock should never be used with the Biguanide sanitizing system uses hydrogen peroxide as the main oxidizer.

No matter what type of sanitizer you use in your pool or hot tub you need to start with the basics. Make sure your Ph is between 7.4 and 7.6 this prevents corrosion and scale build up and reduces the irritation to swimmers skin and eyes. <bio>Jake Plumer is a writer for http://www.a1hottub.com. </bio>

Chlorination has been the traditional method of pool sanitation for decades--almost by default, since there were no alternatives for this crucial aspect of owning a swimming pool. However, for many pool owners, chlorination is an old and outdated pool sanitation method they've discarded in favor of maintaining a salt water pool.

Chlorine

So what's the problem with chlorine, anyway? It does exactly what it needs to--kills algae and bacteria, keeping the pool attractive and more importantly, a safe and sanitary place to swim. A pool that doesn't get regular chlorine treatments will quickly become clogged with thick green algae. Depending on where you live, and especially in a warm climate like Florida, an untreated pool can become a green, sludgy nightmare inside of a week--the chlorine is definitely important.

If you maintain a chlorinated pool, however, it's not enough to dump chlorine in periodically and let the pool fend for itself. There are other chemicals to add too, as well as regular testing to keep an eye on water quality. For example, you must make sure there is enough free available chlorine (meaning chlorine that is active) in the water to keep up with sanitizing the water. This is usually done with the use of weekly chlorine tablets.

Another important aspect of this maintenance is PH levels--the acidity or alkalinity of the water. If the PH gets too high, the chlorine in the pool isn't able to work as efficiently. However, if the PH drops too low, the water quickly becomes too acidic to swim in comfortably. Keeping the PH at the right level is somewhat difficult, because the range at which it's 'just right' is very narrow and many factors, including rain, affect this.

Chlorine is important for sanitation, but for many people it's also a source of irritation. The harsh chemicals that are added to pre-packaged pool chlorine irritate the skin and eyes, making swimming a highly unpleasant experience. It is important to note that it's not the chlorine that's the problem--in most cases it's the chemicals which are added to the pre-packaged mix.

Salt Water

The main advantage of a salt water pool isn't that it doesn't use chlorine. In fact, a salt water pool does use chlorine to keep the water clean. The advantage is that the pool owner doesn't add chlorine to the pool--that means no pre-packaged chlorine, and less irritation for people who are sensitive to the added chemicals. Salt water tends to be much softer than chlorinated water, so it's much more pleasurable to swim in, and is much less harsh on your skin. In addition, a salt water pool usually has a much lower concentration of chlorine than a chlorinated pool.

Another important benefit is more of a long-term one. In the short term, converting from chlorine to a salt water pool will involve some cash outlay, since there are a few system components you'll need to by. It'll run approximately $1000-$1500 to convert a traditional chlorine system to a salt water system. Over two or three years, however, the money you spend is recouped due to not having to buy extra chlorine for the pool. Just a bag of salt which is much less expensive.

Just to be clear though, salt water pools do in fact use chlorine to sanitize and the water. So if you are not adding chlorine tablets or shock, how does that work?

It works because of the chemical composition of salt, which is made up of chlorine and sodium. Within the salt water system is a unit called a salt-chlorine generator, which uses electrolysis to generate chlorine by separating the sodium and chlorine molecules in the salt you add to the pool. As the generator unit separates out the chlorine, it's returned to the pool, where it keeps the water clean and sanitary.

A well-maintained salt pool is an absolute delight to swim in, with softer, more comfortable water that doesn't irritate. It doesn't taste salty, either, as you might think, because it has such a low concentration of salt that it's officially considered to be fresh water! In the ocean, the salt concentration is between 20,000 to 35,000 parts per million, whereas in a salt water pool, it's just 3,000 to 6,000.

Finally, don't be fooled into thinking that a salt water pool maintains itself. It doesn't. You still need to check PH levels and carry out other maintenance tasks. However, you'll benefit from lower maintenance costs and a more enjoyable swimming experience, which definitely makes it worthwhile.<bio>Calum and Kathleen MacKenzie are Owners of Real Living Southern Homes a leading real estate company serving the Tampa FL real estate market.
Pools are among the most popular features of a home. In fact, many people specifically look for them when making a home buying decision. Even if your home does not have a pool when you first move in, you may wish to add one at a later date.

There are two types of pools: those that are built above ground, and those that are what is called in-ground which means they are actually placed in a hole in the ground. There are several benefits to adding a pool to your home. If you decide to add an in-ground pool, you will probably raise the value of your home so that should you decide to sell it, you may receive more than what you paid when you purchased it. Adding a pool also gives you a place to relax, entertain, and exercise all in the comforts of your own home.

Another benefit to adding a pool to your home is the ability to reap the benefits without having to contend for space at the public pool down the street or at the local community center. There are, however, several considerations that should be give before making such a decision.

If you choose to add an above-ground pool, you will want to be sure your ground in your yard is right. This means that if you live on a hill, you may have to check into having a part of the yard leveled, or into placing the pool in an area that won't affect it once it has been installed. Because you will need to assemble it, and because it will be above ground, you will need to make sure it is properly seated so the sides will not cave in or the lining will not tear. Some people even choose to build a deck around their above-ground pools so as to give the effect of an in-ground pool, and to stabilize the overall structure.

If you choose to add an in-ground pool, you will want to make sure you have enough space in your yard for doing this. In some cases, this mean cutting down trees and clearing greenery, but the size of the pool you will be able to install will depend on the amount of usable space you have in your yard.

You will also need to be sure you have enough room left for a fence. This is especially important if you have children, but should be a consideration even if you do not. Finally, make sure you will have the time to properly take care of the pool. This means regularly cleaning it and making sure it is free of unwanted debris. It also means checking the chlorine levels to be sure there is enough, or there isn't too much. Too much chlorine in a pool can be harmful to those who swim in it. Lastly, enjoy your investment. If you do not plan to use it frequently, you might want to think about this before spending the money to have it installed. <bio>MBI offers the ultimate in selection and price.
Those persons who work near a chlorine pool, such as swimming instructors, life guards, or even administrators may be damaging their lungs. A recent study in the European Respiratory Journal found that harmful compounds in the air can damage delicate lung tissue and cause an increase in respiratory illness.

The study interviewed 624 persons who are in close contact with a chlorine pool for a significant period of time during their day. Then the air was sampled at those pools the subjects were exposed to.

The researchers were most interested in a chlorine compounds known as chloramines. These are formed with chlorine, which is used to sanitize pool water, reacts with human waste products such as sweat and urine.

The most potent chloramine is trichloramine, which is known to cause respiratory symptoms.

Trichloroamine levels were found to be at least 3 times higher in pools than other areas. Those person with the greatest exposure, namely swimming instructors and life guards had more than twice the incidence of upper respiratory illnesses such as sore throat and sinus infections compared to the lesser exposed persons, such as those in administration. Their risk of chronic upper respiratory illness was more than 3 times.

When the researchers compared the respiratory symptoms to the common population, there was more than a 40 percent increase in chest tightness in those routinely exposed to trichloramines and the incidence was more than 7 times the general population for shortness of breath on exertion.

The authors stress that pool safety should not only focus on the water quality but also the air quality. Trichloramines and other noxious compounds in the air could severely damage lung function with long term exposure, even in an otherwise healthy person.

There are chlorine alternatives available on the market today. While these may not make sense for public pools at this time, lifeguards should limit their exposure by taking 10 minute breaks to get fresh air away from the pool along with shorter shifts if that is an option. <bio>Supplement News delivers frequently updated information into the specific categories of our blog.
Some general tips on swimming pool cleaners and maintenance. It is very important that you take good care of your swimming pool, naturally you should make sure that the water are safe, and match the level of maintenance to the level of usage, since there is little chance you could predict your pool use it is recommended that you do this regularly. You will want to test the swimming pool water in the evening. Check the water before you add any kind of chemicals to the pool's water. Once tested you should also test the water in the morning, before anyone uses the pool -- so you know that the water quality is good for the days activities. A PH level of 7.5 is probably best, that is considered to be the ideal level for swimming pool water.

Test the swimming pool water according to usage, if you use the pool every few days there is no reason for daily checks, just before you intend on using it. At some seasons the swimming pool is used more than at other seasons so make sure you adjust your pool cleaning and maintenance to the seasons and your pool usage. Make sure you check the pool in advance to ensure a safe and enjoyable pool. Check signs of poor water quality, in general swimming pool water should be clear and bleu, anything that is not blue and clear is a cause for concern and you should simply take a close look at the water to make sure there is no algae growth or cloudiness.

Pay attention to the weather, different weather conditions have a significant effect on the water quality and the pool cleanness. The weather conditions effect the swimming pool water quality too, strong sun reduces amounts of chlorine and rainy seasons may increase water lever or introduce parasites to the pool. You should consider checking the water at the return flow of water to the pool, check and add any chemicals to ensure that there is effective mixing with filtered water. Regularly clean the pool surfaces including the waterline to ensure that build up of sun-oils, body fats, algae, airborne pollution and other dirt is not left to build up. Pool surround paving slabs should be cleaned with a strong Chlorine solution, brushed away from the pool.

While pool cleaning and pool maintenance is something that seems to be simple and not complicated it is highly recommended that you study the manufactures instructions, and that you consult the manual whenever faced with problems, you can also call and ask the company for advice or consult a local swimming pool maintenance professional. Chemical agents need to be mixed with the pool's water, it is strongly recommended that you read instructions carefully and make sure you mix the right amounts, be careful and use caution when dealing with chemicals, use gloves and do not inhale fumes. The pool cleaning products and chemicals should be kept away from the reach of children always, and when disposed off it should be done by a responsible adult.

If you follow all the instructions and common sense there is no reason that you will not enjoy a nice and clean swimming pool at all seasons, it is always better to know that its highly maintained and cleaned when you jump into the cool water of your swimming pool.

Avoid smoking or lighting fire close to chemicals, and keep the chemicals in a safe location, as far as possible from barbeque grills, fireplaces etc. after handling pool cleaning products wash hands thoroughly.

Swimming Pool Cleaners Advice - If chemicals get into any contact with skin or inhaled, call a poison center, and make sure you can provide all the details of the chemicals used (find the container and keep it with you). To ensure that your pool water are clean run these tests on a daily basis, PH and Chlorine levels using a test kit. Ensure pH is within the 7.2 - 7.6 range. The pool filter should run at least 8 to 10 hours per day (24 hours per day is best). Set your pool timer or remember to run the pool manually if you don't have a timer. If you are not running your pool 24 hours per day, it is best to have it running during the daylight hours (instead of night).Make sure your skimmer baskets are empty and clear of leaves or other debris. Chlorine must be added to the pool daily by dissolving chlorine tablets in the skimmers once per week or use an automatic chlorinator. Make sure the unit is full and that the dial is set to a level that gives you a good daily chlorine reading depending on how long you run your system.
Summer is fast approaching and you'll want to be ready for gatherings with friends and loved ones, relaxing, and just enjoying the sunshine and warm, fresh air. A perfect place this summer to do your entertaining is in your own back yard.

Start with the pool in your quest for the ultimate backyard retreat. Now is the perfect time to remove all the dirt and grime from the winter months. A healthy pool system should take water from the pool into the half open box or hole that is embedded into the walls of the pool and should go into the skimmer. From there the water will be pumped out of the skimmer by the pump to the filter where particulates and dirt are trapped and then shot back out into the pool by the pool return valves. If you've plugged them up for winter, you'll want to remove the plugs from the skimmers and the returns. Be sure to store them in a place that will keep them together and safe from possible dings. Now, check and make sure that the water level is sufficient. Due to possible evaporation, loss of water may occur and you may have to add a little extra water to fill your pool back up to par.

Next, be sure to check the chemical balances of pH, alkalinity, and chlorine. The pH test will enable you to keep your water at a perfect pH for swimming and should range from 7.2-7.8. Perfect neutrality is 7.0 so you will want your water to be just slightly on the basic side of neutral. The Alkyl test should be anywhere from 120-180 and the chlorine should be values ranging from 1-5 to keep your pool in optimum conditions. Testing should be done once a week or after a heavy rainfall.

Check the temperature and adjust heaters accordingly, comfortable swimming temperatures should be around 75-85 degrees for summer.

Vacuuming your pool is important to ensure the maintenance of homeostasis of your pool system as well as protecting it from clogs, algae and to maintain cleanliness. Push handle vacuum systems are easy to use but require daily time to use. A wonderful new invention is the Aquabot pool cleaner. An Aquabot pool cleaner is a self-mobile cleaning system that will enable your pool to be clean and ready any time you want to use it.

Getting your pool in tip-top shape is a wonderful way to achieve an oasis retreat in your back yard and with technology of today, it has never been easier. Preparing for those dog days of summer by opening your pool is just the first step to an oasis to relaxation! <bio>This article was written by The Elite Home team. http://www.thelitehome.com/ offers the highest quality indoor and outdoor appliances such as the Aquabot Pool Cleaner.
Before running to buy the latest Dolphin pool cleaner, there are a few basic things you should know about pool maintenance.

After getting a swimming pool, the next thing you really need for your pool maintenance is a pool cover. The pool cover will help you cover the swimming pool when out of the house for long periods of time, or when the pool is not in use (like long winters or trips).

A plastic pool cover can be very effective in protecting the pool from different objects falling into the water, and from the elements. Some purchase a strong plastic cover to prevent children or pets from accidentally falling into the pool. Remember that setting up the pool cover is a lot of work, requires some time and effort. This is basic pool maintenance.

Every swimming pool has a skimmer that is used to collect dead leaves, branches, insects and other debris from the water surface. A skimmer is a rake that is used to pull out objects from the water, surely you remember the life guard in the summer walking around the pool and fishing out all the dead insects, leaves and such from the swimming pool. Pool maintenance and cleaning should be in direct correlation to how much it is used, and if you plan to use your pool frequently, you will need to use a good skimmer, so try and put some money into a quality one, you will get to use it a lot.

One of the most important things in swimming pool maintenance is the filtration, keeping the water clean and circulating them is important in any pool. There are several types of filters available for swimming pool water. Sand and gravel, diatomaceous earth, anthracite, and cartridge types are the filter mediums most commonly employed. Swimming pool filtration system use the same basic principle of passing water through tiny passageways, thus filtering it. Particles larger than these passages are trapped and thereby separated from the main body of the water. This process continues until all of these passageways are blocked. The filter must then be cleaned and the cycle repeated.

Sediment and suspended matter usually find their way to the bottom of the pool and will need to be removed by vacuuming, since swimming pool filtration varies in quality, and is subject to the frequency of maintenance and quality, you will need to consider vacuuming as a general pool maintenance tool for your swimming pool cleaning.

The swimming pool vacuum operates in a similar manner to the common household unit except it draws water through the vacuum head instead of air. There are two ways in which this may be accomplished. One method employs a jet of water supplied by a garden hose to power the suction which draws the dirt into the head to be trapped in a cloth bag. The other method uses the suction power supplied by the filter which draws the sediment and dirt from the pool floor for removal through the filter. When there is a considerable amount of sediment to be removed the filter valves should be adjusted so that the vacuumed water will bypass the filter and run to waste.

Chemicals are used in pool maintenance on regular basis to keep water safe and clean. The most common chemical used is chlorine. Again, asking you to try and remember you childhood and that a fresh swimming pool usually had an unpleasant side effect of irritated skin or eyes, this is the danger and the cons of using chlorine in your pool. If used in large quantities, or if not maintained properly, chlorine may irritate the eyes and skin of swimmers. A swimming pool owner should also be aware of the proper maintenance instructions for the chemicals and follow the manufacturers instructions when applying the chemical to the pool.

Use common sense when thinking of pool maintenance and pool cleaning, your swimming pool is there for you to enjoy it, but it does come with a few simple responsibilities. Cleaning your swimming pool regularly will allow you to enjoy a clean and healthy swimming pool for a long time. <bio>David Evermon has been involved in many swimming pool construction and maintenance projects, David writes articles about pool maintenance http://poolcleaning.zupatips.com/ for ZupaTips.com </bio>

Since the beginning of mankind we have been using solar power for heat whether it simply be setting out in the sun and warming up or today's high tech devices that convert the suns energy into electricity. Over the past 100 years our dependence on solar power has diminished as we used the natural resources such as gas and coal to heat our homes and create electricity for our ever whim. History has a way of repeating itself just like when the automobile was fist introduced their was a divergence on how to power it many companies produced electric cars even steam cars were made for a short time but it was not until the advent of cheap gasoline that the manufactures concentrated their efforts on the gas power internal combustion engine. Today the car manufactures are looking to alternative fuels again they are looking at electricity for a car power source just like they were some 100 years ago.

The same thing is happening with the pool and hot tub industry at one time the only way to heat water was with the sun today pool supply companies are again looking at using the free solar energy being supplied by the sun to heat our pools. We have all sent the standard black panels surrounding pools that have pool water pumped through them and the suns energy is transferred to the pool water. This solar heating of the water results in a better user experience in pool or hot tub usage the water is warmer and will remain warmer in the fall and will heat up quicker in the spring allowing a longer swim season.

Today's new solar panels are much more efficient than the panels of old the new technology has been imported from Europe where the cost of energy is much higher so the development of alternative energy has been accelerated.

Today pool manufactures are looking closer at utilizing the suns energy to help reduce the amount of fossil fuels our pools consume each year. A new item on the market is a solar powered skimmer this skimmer is an automatic pool cleaner that runs completely on solar energy no wire no hoses, I just swims through the water collecting debris, the manufacture claims that with the new solar skimmer you can reduce the operating time of your pump by two thirds! The solar skimmer also acts as a chlorine distributor it will dispense chlorine as it does its job. The manufacture is looking at adding some other features such as a remote control and a pool alarm to the skimmer. <bio>Jake Plumer is an author for http://www.a1hottub.com </bio>

A swimming pool is one place where we all want to be on a hot day. Swimming is such a relaxing exercise, and it is enjoyed by people of all ages. Kids love splashing, while adults love swimming in the water. Swimming is an excellent sport, and reduces fat as well. A perfect swimming pool adds a lot of class to a beautiful home. If you are in the process of getting a pool or redoing your old pool, read on!

Swimming Pool Basics:

Typically, a swimming pool has the following major components:

• Basin • Motor pump • Water filter • Chemical feeder • Drains • Returns • PVC plastic plumbing connecting all of these elements

A good pool will have all the following components, so that the water is moved continuously from the filter, cleaning it, sometimes through the heater also, so that regular temperature is maintained. The water is consistently cleaned using the chemical feeders, with the help of chlorine, as it keeps water free from any bacteria.

Doing up a great pool:

The drain system is best laid at the lower end of the pool with the surface slanting towards it, so that the water can flow easily through the drains. The drains should be covered with grates so that while swimming, people do not have their hair or swimsuits caught up in them. A strainer is attached at the mouth of drains so that any debris is caught. A good pool must have powerful pumps that can help water flow through the filter and chemical feeder; to and from the swimming pool.

High rate sand filters are the best kind of filters that will clean the water perfectly. They use sand to clean water of any debris present. Some pools may also use the diatomaceous earth filter, or a cartridge filter. This filter cleans very fine particles of debris. Ideally in any pool, the water should pass the filter every 30 minutes, and for the largest ones, every six hours.

The pump and filter should also be connected to a fresh water line. Calcium hypochlorite or sodium hypochlorite make great chemical cleaning agents. An automated chlorine feeder should be hooked to the filters for good chemical filtration.

Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate should be used as per the requirement, to keep the pH under control right from 7.8 to 7.9. After filtration, the water should be sent back to the pool. A great pool requires the best of the filters, chemical filters, drains and pumps.

Most people look at the pool and think that that is the most important part of the set up, but in fact equally important is the pumps room, where pumps and filters are installed. A pump room is where the water quality is maintained. There are some other issues that one may face while getting a pool done. Some of these are:

When to dig a pool?

Contrary to popular thought, winter, not spring or summer is the right time to get a pool dug up, as the ground is not soggy. Soft ground is difficult to dig and is not easy on heavy equipment as well.

Sides caving in:

The sides of the hollow dug must be sloping so that the sides do not cave in. The ideal ratio should be a 1-foot vertical drop for every 3 horizontal feet. Steel enforcements may also be used to keep the pool in shape.

Algae in the pool:

Algae can be very harmful to a swimming pool, and requires chemical treatment and a lot of filtering, backwashing, scrubbing, and skimming. Whatever kind of algae it is, quick treatment is essential, as algae is quick to take over the pool.

Kids safety:

Kids are sometimes unpredictable, so a cover on the pool or a fence around it will help to keep the pool area safe.

Winter:

If the swimming pool is outdoors and the winters are harsh, it is a good idea to put antifreeze in the key areas after draining the water and putting a cover over the pool.

A swimming pool is an ideal feature for your home; just remember a good pool requires extensive preparations, and once these are done, maintenance is very important. <bio>Stefan Rockhaus is a contributing author for http://www.your-online-guide.info For more info visit http://www.supreme-swimming-pools.info and http://www.supreme-swimming-pools.info/sitemap.php </bio>

Pool Supplies

Taking care of your pool is vital, not just to keep it looking good, but also to make sure it's safe to swim in. To do that, you'll need a variety of pool supplies. You can choose from sticking with the absolute bare minimum for pool maintenance, right through a high-level maintenance system. Either way, there are a wide variety of products to suit. You can even add in some extras such as a pool cover, ladder or slide.

The main priority is to keep the pool clean. The first step is to focus on the pool water. Generally, something like chlorine, which acts as an oxidizer and sanitizer, is more than sufficient. It keeps the water clean by burning up any organic material that's present, and this also helps to reduce the load for the pool filters. You also need to keep an eye on the pH balance of the water, as well as a level of alkalinity. A basic water testing kits can do this for you. It's also worth looking for calcium hardness and stability. If you find a problem using a testing kit, you can fix it immediately.

Swimming pools have interior walls and floors, and over time these will get dirty and slimy if you don't keep them clean. It's possible to buy a manual swimming pool vacuum system, which will do a perfectly good job as long as you're willing to put in the time to clean the pool. Nowadays, however, it makes sense to invest in an automatic pool cleaner, as they've become a great deal more affordable. Plus it means you can spend your leisure hours enjoying the pool, rather than vacuuming it!

Choosing the right pump for your pool is important, because if it's the wrong size, you'll either waste a lot of energy or it won't work properly. Generally, you should choose a pump capable of pumping the entire capacity of your swimming pool in about eight hours. You also need to choose a filtration system. The three main types are sand, cartridge and D.E. Talk to a swimming pool expert to find out more about the pros and cons of each one, or else get online and do your research there so that you can decide which one is right for you.

Most people want to heat their pool, so some extra pool supplies will be needed for that to happen. Pool heaters have become a lot more energy efficient, dependable and durable over the years. They've even become more high-tech, with some including advanced features like a freeze protector or an integrated timer.

A pool cover isn't an essential, but it's still a good idea. Even if you only use it in winter, it can be worthwhile. That's particularly the case if small children can gain access to the pool. If that's likely to happen, you should probably choose a pool cover that's quick and easy to put in place at any time.

When you first install a pool, it can feel you're spending a lot of money on pool supplies to get started. The good news is that things get much cheaper once you settle into a pattern of ongoing maintenance. If you choose wisely, however, your pool supplies will last a long time and give you a clean pool to enjoy for many years to come. <bio>Steve Dolan is a pool owner who does all of his own maintenance.
Do you have a pool in your backyard? Are you thinking about building one? If so, you know just how fun this can be. While pools are enjoyable, if the proper precautions are not in place you may be asking for trouble. It is crucial to make sure you have all the essential items especially if you are going to have small children in the area. For this reason, it is very important to exercise the proper level of pool safety. Not being careful in this area could lead to disaster in the long run. So what are some of the more common pool safety items that you need to be aware of? The following bullets outline some of the common pool safety items you should purchase.

POOL ALARMS

First and foremost, you may want to look into purchasing a swimming pool alarm. The great thing about one of these is that you can prevent problems before they ever occur. There are many different types of alarms to choose from. They include: door alarms, perimeter alarms, and wave sensor alarms among others. Weigh the pros and cons of each before buying.

POOL LIFE SAVERS

Moving on, pool life savers are also very important. In most cases, one of these will be just fine. But if you want to play it safe, look into buying a few. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry. Make sure that you purchase high quality life savers, and that you check them approximately once a month to ensure that you know where they are and that they are in good working condition.

POOL FENCES

Keeping intruders and children out of the pool is important. Many states have laws to regulate pools and require a fence be installed properly around your pool. Vinyl construction is usually preferred and maintenance free. Make sure the fence you purchase is UV Protected especially if your pool is located in a sunny location. Check the fence to make sure there are no gaps. Many kits have clear installation directions and it is crucial to follow the directions and make sure to keep your warranty in a handy place for future reference!

POOL LINERS

Covering your pool during the offseason is a practice that has become more and more common over the past years.

TEST KITS

Every hour at our local pool, the lifeguards mandate that every swimmer retreat from the water. They sit at the edge and pull out a test kit to check the levels of chlorine in the pool. This is a practice that is mandated every hour to ensure our safety. While a home owner may not have to test their pool every hour, it is extremely important to check levels using the proper equipment on your home pool before allowing people to swim in your pool or your hot tub. Many new Test kits exist to give you clear accurate results in seconds.

When it comes to pool safety equipment, there are many items that you can purchase. Having a swimming pool can bring a lot of fun to your home; not to mention the fact that it will increase your property's market value, but please make sure you have all the necessary items to ensure safety for all who enjoy your pool! <bio>Phil Tripp is an avid swimmer and pool owner.
Summer is here, which means it is time to consider how you will keep cool during the heat of the season. If you are like many homeowners, you will likely purchase a swimming pool. Owning a swimming pool requires a lot of attention and care in order to keep it safe and clean for swimmers. This is true rather you own an in ground pool or an above ground pool, large or small. Maintenance is an important key to having a swimming pool and this article is going to explain to you exactly what every new pool owner must know about maintaining a pool cleaning routine.

When you purchase a swimming pool, the dealer will likely tell you what you need to get started. There are several things you absolutely must have when you own a swimming pool, these things will help you keep your pool safe and clean for your swimmers, which of course is top priority. Here is a handy list of some essential equipment you need to maintain a regular cleaning routine:

• Filtration System -- ensure that you have a filtration system with your swimming pool that is large enough to handle the capacity of your pool. This system will aid in removing bacteria and small partials from the water.

• Vacuum -- By purchasing and using a vacuum specific for swimming pools you will be able to clear the pool of many different items that do not belong in there. This is especially useful for debris that has settled on the bottom of the pool.

• Strainer or Skimmer Basket -- This can be in conjunction with the filtration system and vacuum. The basket will catch large debris and particles such as leaves or bugs that enter the water of your swimming pool.

• Pool Cover -- This handy cover protects your swimming pool in a variety of ways, as well as your loved ones and neighbors. A swimming pool cover works to keep debris out of your pool. A solar pool cover will help in heating the pool water with the suns heat. Additionally, a pool cover will prevent any unwanted visitors (of the animal or human sort) from entering your pool and protect them from any dangers. Lastly, a pool cover works to protect your swimming pool from climatic differences such as the winter months.

• Maintenance Chart -- This will allow you to keep track of the maintenance you perform on your pool and the levels of chemicals you put in each time, as well as the chemical readings from test performed.

Chemicals

Chemicals play a large part in balancing your pool water to obtain and maintain a healthy and safe environment for all swimmers. Some things that need to be balanced include the pH level and water hardness. Here is a list of all chemical equipment you will need to keep up with regular maintenance of your swimming pool:

Chlorine -- This is available in Tablet (for larger pools) and granules (for smaller pools) and is used to kill bacteria and other harmful things that can occur within a swimming pool.

pH Minus -- This is used when the pH levels have gotten to high within the swimming pool.

pH plus -- To add pH to your pool as needed.

TA plus and Minus -- To add or remove acids found needed to keep pool healthy. Hardness Plus -- To increase the amount of Calcium Choloride.

Algaecides -- To prevent growth of harmful bacteria

Clarifier -- This comes in concentrate, granular, and tablet forms.

Shock -- To maintain the clarity of your pool and prevent cloudy water.

Testing Kits -- These come in Strip or bottle form and are essential to understanding the levels of the different chemicals that are contained within the swimming pool water. These are essential to the proper cleaning routine of any swimming pool and the water must be tested regularly. <bio>David Evermon has been involved in many swimming pool construction and maintenance projects, David writes articles about pool maintenance for http://poolcleaning.zupatips.com/ </bio>

Shower water filters are an essential component to any complete home water filtration system. A shower water filter allows you to enjoy a warm and relaxing shower, without the potential risk of exposure to harmful elements found in standard tap water. Chlorine is one of the biggest problems found in normal tap water. If your body is continually exposed to chlorine during a shower, it can lead to problems such as dry skin, irritated eyes or color distortion of the hair. This is due to the fact that chlorine strips the natural protective oils from the skin and hair, which leads to the excess dryness. If the chlorine is filtered out of the water, the skin and hair will greatly benefit. Removing chlorine can also be beneficial for individuals suffering from asthma and allergy sufferers, as inhalation of chlorine vapors can complicate those conditions. Showering with unfiltered tap water can be compared to spending ten to twenty minutes in an extremely chlorinated pool everyday. The most well-known shower water filter is the Aquasana Shower Filter, which retails for sixty to eighty dollars, depending on where it is purchased.

Shower waters filters can be easily installed in a few minutes. Once the water filter is properly installed, it provides healthy, chemical free water for showering. The best feature of the shower filter is its efficiency in removing chlorine from the water. It also greatly reduces harmful VOCs, which are the same harmful substances found in paints and pesticides. The filter also enhances the pH balance, which creates an overall healthier showering environment.

Most shower filters have an average life span of six months or ten thousand gallons. The filter can handle operating temperatures of 115 degrees, which is more than ample, as most average shower temperatures are 100 degrees. The filter fits well on the head of the shower. Most filters use two stages to purify the tap water. The first stage of the filter system removes all chlorine and improves the pH balance. The shower filter system brings the pH of the water to 7.5. This is accomplished by using a natural copper and zinc mineral media, which is called KDF-55D. KDF-55D removes any acidic components in the water, while retaining helpful trace minerals. The second stage of the filtering process employs a carbonized coconut shell media, which is responsible for the task of removing any synthetic chemicals and VOCs.

Most shower filters come with an adjustable pressure shower head which prevents any loss of water pressure. The filter systems are also compatible with most standard shower heads and hand held shower heads. In addition to providing health benefits, shower water filters also remove limestone, marble and other hard metals from the tap water. This helps to prevent scaling and hard water deposits in the shower or bathtub. <bio>Mike Tracy writes guides and reviews for Water Filters at http://Blueble.com.
Water filters are an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you have a countertop water filter, refrigerator water, whole house water filter or others, having clean, filtered water in your house is more important than you may even realize. To begin with, most tap contains VOCs. VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, include a variety of chemicals that can cause negative health conditions, both short-term and long-term. Along with being found in tap water, VOCs are found in thousands of products including glues, paints and pesticides. Short-term effects of VOCs include irritation of the eye, nose and throat, headaches and nausea.

Carbon is also responsible for removing impurities such as pesticides and insecticides. Consumption of these impurities can lead to serious stomach complications or other bodily ailments. Another essential feature of water filters is their ability to remove chlorine from the water. In addition to greatly improving the taste and odor of tap water, the removal of chlorine provides significant health benefits. If you are using a shower or whole house water filter, the removal of chlorine can improve your body's health. Excess amounts of chlorine can cause conditions such as thinning of the hair or major irritation of the skin. Showering in water that is unfiltered is similar to spending too much time in an over-chlorinated pool.

Water filters also remove intestinal parasite, known as giardia. Giardia can cause unpleasant symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea or cramps. By using a water filter, unsafe tap water can be transformed into drinking water that is not only pleasant but also much more healthy.

Before purchasing any type of water filter, it is important to do some research on the brand and specific filter you are planning to purchase. A study conducted by a California environmental group concluded that certain brands of water filters can actually increase the amount of lead in water. This situation normally occurred when filters were attached to brass faucets. Consumption of lead can negatively affect almost every system within the body. The effects of lead are most detrimental towards fetuses, infants and children. This is because their tissue is much more sensitive than that of an adult. <bio>For more information about house water filters please visit http://WaterFilters.Blueble.com and buy water filters online. </bio>

As warmer months move in to push out the chill of winter, we begin to eye our beautiful backyard pools again. But pool safety should be considered year-round, because if you have a pool in your backyard, it is a 24-7 responsibility. Here are some pool safety rules to follow:

Pool Safety Rule #1: Always watch children when they are by or in the pool.

Pool Safety Rule #2: If throwing a pool party, make sure at least one adult is designated to keep a close eye on children at all times.

Pool Safety Rule #3: Teach children to float or swim as soon as possible. Experience, however, is by no means a replacement for supervision.

Pool Safety Rule #4: Make sure the pool is surrounded on all sides by a fence higher than 5 feet tall.

Pool Safety Rule #5: Make sure the fence as self-closing and has self-latching gates.

Pool Safety Rule #6: Make sure the latches are out of reach of young children.

Pool Safety Rule #7: Do not keep tables or chairs near the fence, this would allow children to climb over it and gain access to the pool.

Pool Safety Rule #8: Keep pool toys out of and away from the pool when you are not using them, as they might attract unsupervised children to the pool.

Pool Safety Rule #9: Remove any pool covering completely before allowing anyone to swim.

Pool Safety Rule #10: Do not use floatation devices as a substitute for supervision.

Pool Safety Rule #11: Learn CPR.

Pool Safety Rule #12: Never leave children unattended by the pool. If the phone or doorbell rings or you have to go inside for any reason, get the children out of the pool.

Pool Safety Rule #13: Keep rescue tools, like a long, light pole and a floatation ring, near the pool. You don't want them to be misplaced so let children know that these tools are not toys. Teach everyone in the family how to use the tools.

Pool Safety Rule #14: Use plasticware by the pool instead of glassware.

Pool Safety Rule #15: Provide "touch supervision" around infants and toddlers. Remain within arms length of them at all times, so they are easily grabbed in an emergency.

Pool Safety Rule #16: Don't swim alone or allow others to swim alone.

Pool Safety Rule #17: Keep CD players, radios, and other electrical devices safely away from the water. Talk to your pool dealer about a ground fault interrupter for added protection in the event of a power surge.

Pool Safety Rule #18: Get out of the pool if you hear thunder.

Move indoors for the duration of the thunderstorm.

Pool Safety Rule #19: Allow swimmers to dive only off the very end of the diving board, not off the sides of the pool. They should always enter feet-first from the side of the pool.

Pool Safety Rule #20: Do not get a false sense of security because you follow all these rules. You should always supervise any swimmers in your pool closely and constantly. <bio>Ralph Winn has over 32 years of experience in the security industry. But there are some precautions you should take to ensure that the time you and your family spend in and around the swimming pool are safe as well as fun.

Do you have a swimming pool in your backyard? Then you need to know about swimming pool safety, especially if you have kids. There are many ways that something bad can happen in and around a pool if you don't know pool safety. So, you will want to make sure that you learn all you can about being safe around a pool to make sure nothing happens to anyone at your home.

Here are some swimming pool safety tips that will help you to start learning about pool safety.

One: You always need to make sure that if there are kids around the pool, that there is an adult around who knows how to swim to watch them. Don't ever leave kids around pools unsupervised. If you do run into trouble knowing CPR could help save someone's life. Contact your city or local Saint John's ambulance for CPR course.

Two: When you have an underground pool you want to have a fence around it with a gate that will lock. This will help keep kids out if an adult can't be there to supervise.

Three: It is always a good idea even when you have a fence around your pool to add an alarm. This will tell you when someone has gone through the gate when they are not supposed to. So, if you have kids and the alarm sounds you can be there in a hurry to stop anything from happening.

Four: Don't allow alcohol around your swimming pool. This is one of the swimming pool safety rules that a lot of adults don't think about, especially if there are no kids around. Alcohol can alter a person's perception, which can be dangerous for the person who has consumed the alcohol but especially if there are kids around. You just need to remember that alcohol and swimming just doesn't mix, so don't do it.

Five: When you have an above ground swimming pool you want to remove the steps or ladder when the pool is not in use. This swimming pool safety tip is very important because kids are very curious and will always climb stairs or a ladder when they see one. So, you have to remember to remove the way into the pool each time after you use your pool.

These are all very important swimming pool safety tips that you need to know but they are not the only ones. You need to take time to learn as much as you can about pool safety. This is the only way to make sure you know how to keep kids and adults safe when they are around your pool.<bio>Mike Clarke is real estate sales representative who specializes in Toronto real estate for sale along with his team of professionals.
The hot summer season can make one yearn for some of the sweet things in life that can be bought with money like a personal pool right in the comforts of your own home. It does not matter if you own a small or a large pool, for as long as it serves its purpose of refreshing your body.

A home pool is practical because it can be a source of enjoyment for the whole family. It can be a relaxing way to spend your free time away from the hectic schedule of work and city life. It can also serve as a venue for partying with friends and even business associates.

Having one's own pool can be expensive but it can far outweigh the hassle of driving towards a public swimming pool and bathing in public where you are not sure of the health hazards.

Most people said they would build themselves a private swimming pool if only they have a budget for it. However, the trend of having home pools has significantly decreased the cost of owning one. Another consideration is the size of your home since a swimming pool can take considerable space.

While owning a swimming pool can be fun, the owner must content with safety and health issues especially in maintaining his pool. To make sure that your private pool can provide maximum enjoyment for the family, you must equip it with the necessary equipment that will be used not only for enjoyment but also for cleaning and for health maintenance.

Before even buying or constructing a pool and the necessary pool supplies, you have to make sure that your children get swimming lessons. This will lessen pool-related accidents and will give you the assurance that they at least know the basic rudiments of swimming.

A swimming pool can be inground or above ground. The accessories or pool supplies you need will depend on what swimming pool you have in your home. It also depends on what functions you want your swimming pool to have.

A pool that is primarily intended for family enjoyment can be installed with fountains and slides. This can be fun for children who love to cavort in water at anytime. However, the slide should be made of hard plastic or other safe and non corrosive materials.

A pool of whatever size will require pool pumps as it will keep your pool healthy. The pump should however match the size of your pool to be more effective. Other pool supplies that can be used to accessorize your pool includes a torpedo, water volleyball or basketball set, water noodles to keep you afloat, goggles to protect your eyes and inflatable chairs.

There are various supplies and accessories that can make your swimming pool look and function better. You can surf the internet as there are websites that are specifically intended for pool supplies. If you want this to be a family thing, then you can also scout for pool supplies with the whole family. <bio>The author is a regular contributor to the http://www.poolsupplyhq.com where more information regarding swimming pool and spa supplies and maintenance is freely available. </bio>
