Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you still cannot make ends meet. With today's economy, it is becoming more and more difficult for people all over to maintain possession of their homes. Repossession rates are at their highest right now for banks. People are having the hardest time trying to stay above water. Unfortunately sometimes no matter how hard we try, we end up losing such things as our home. So what do you do after your house has been repossessed?

If you've exhausted all efforts in trying to keep your house or selling it before repossession takes place, then there are a few things you need to do before the bank repossess your house. You need to make sure that you get all of your personal belongings out as quickly as possible. In some cases you may be fortunate enough to have a set date as to when the bank will take over the home and you need to be out of the house. You can never be absolutely sure though, as to what date they will come and change the locks.

You don't want to have someone lock you out of your home and keep you from your belongings so it is important for you to take action while you still can. Remove your personal belongings from the home and find a place to store them. You need to be sure that you have you and your family covered for a place to stay.

By waiting till the last minute, you can leave yourself as well as your family and your belongings out in the cold with nowhere to go. There are many places that offer free counselling and advice that can help point you in the right direction if you find yourself in such an unfortunate predicament.

Nobody buys a house with the intention of having it repossessed. This can be a very devastating and traumatic experience for all parties involved. The bank does not want your home any more than you want to give it up but unfortunately their hands are tied if you are unable to make the payments.

Once it has come to the point where the bank is repossessing the house, you want to be able to walk away with as much of your personal belongings as possible. In many cases the bank has the right to seize any property that is in the home to sell for back payment. Keep in mind that you can always get another home, flat or some type of place to live but you cannot replace sentimental items.

If you find that you're having trouble making your house payments and you've gone through all avenues to try to rectify the situation, then it may be time for you to consider moving your personal belongings. It will not do you any good to dwell on the things that have happened.

You need to focus on what you can do today to make things better. Salvaging as much of your belongings as possible is the first place to start. By having your own personal things with you, starting over won't seem as hard. <bio>Derek Rogers is a freelance writer who represents a number of UK businesses.
1 in 4 families in the UK, have not insured their belongings with contents insurance. This is an alarming fact considering that a house gets broken into every 90 seconds in the UK! The two basic types of home insurance comprise of contents and buildings insurance. These two types of insurance policies generally go hand in hand because it is necessary to obtain both. Contents insurance refers to your possessions and personal belongings within your home which are covered if damaged or destroyed under certain circumstances mentioned in the policy. Buildings insurance covers the damage of the actual structure, fixtures and fittings of your house in a disaster or situation which has caused damage to your home. This includes the damages on external structures such as garages and garden sheds. Contents and buildings insurance can be bought separately or together as a joint policy.

Contents and buildings insurance refers to the coverage of fire damages, thefts, water damages, flooding and any other circumstances listed in the policy. The policy for contents and buildings insurance also ensures expenses accumulated for you and your family to go elsewhere if the house becomes unliveable in the event of a disaster. Contents and buildings insurance generally includes liability insurance as well. This insurance policy also guarantees coverage for fencing around the premises of your property.

Sum insured is assessed when determining the specifications of your contents and buildings insurance policy. Sum insured refers to the value of your personal belongings. If you own a lot of expensive items, expect to pay a high premium for your contents and buildings insurance policy. It is essential to estimate the correct amount to replace each of your personal belongings. Otherwise you will be left with less than the amount needed to replace your possessions, if there comes a time to make a claim for damage. Especially when it comes to buildings insurance it is necessary to obtain coverage for complete rebuilding and not just the market value of your home. The sum insured should be analyzed regularly to update information on recent belongings you've purchased so they are all covered under your contents and buildings insurance plan.

In order to assess the correct value for determining the sum insured it is best to categorize all your possessions. This is an assessment of the actual value and not on personal sentiment! Often it takes families some time to understand the difference. Recently families have started video taping all the rooms in their homes to have an exact record of personal belongings and to determine their value. It will be difficult to get low premiums for contents and buildings insurance if you life in a city area with high crime rates. If you live in a rural and safe neighbourhood then you have a good chance to get low premiums for an ideal contents and buildings insurance policy.

There are also specific sum insured details you can include in your contents and buildings insurance policy. The new for old contract ensures you a brand new replacement of your item that was damaged or destroyed. But don't go changing your complete policy to new for old because otherwise you will be stuck with a very high premium to pay each month! All risks contract extends coverage to personal items while taken out of the house. So if this is a part of your contents and buildings insurance policy and you lost your laptop while on vacation, it'll definitely be covered. Be smart and insure yourself, your family, your home and belongings. After all, aren't those the things that make life worth living for?<bio>Castle Cover are expert buildings contents insurance brokers and have provided hundreds of families with the adequate protection of home insurance they need.</bio>

Moving can be a stressful event. In fact, many people rank moving up with changing jobs, getting married, and having children as the most important times of their lives. When preparing to move a home or office, the best thing one can do is to hire a professional NJ mover. Whether the move is within the state or not, an experienced moving company can make the experience easier and much more enjoyable.

Be sure to select a company that is licensed to work in New Jersey. It is never a good idea to hire a company from a flyer found stapled to a telephone post. They may be able to offer the best rate, but they may lack some essential guarantees as to the safety of your personal belongings.

Hiring a company that consists of a few people and a beat up panel truck will also do nothing to relieve the stress of your move. Can you really be assured that they have the insurance necessary to cover the replacement of your belongings in case of accidental damage? Find a NJ mover with a good reputation for reliability and prompt service.

One scam to be wary of from unlicensed companies is when they suddenly become unwilling to complete the move. For moving into an apartment, they may want to leave your belongings on the ground floor or they charge an additional fee to bring them upstairs. Hiring a professional company will remove the chance of this happening.

Renting a truck and convincing friends and family to help with the move is always a possibility. However, this may be better suited for moving out of the college dorm than moving a full household's worth of belongings. Besides, it is always a bit of a risk to see how many of the helpers actually show up on time or at all.

A NJ mover will have the experience to handle all types of furnishings. Having to get that 42" television, or worse yet the piano, down the stairs is not something to trust to amateurs. A professional company can move the antique furniture you cannot have damaged, or the sofas and entertainment centers that are hard to maneuver around corners and through doors.

When one considers everything that needs to be done to successfully complete a move, from changing the address to packing to having utilities hooked up, there is more than enough for you to do. Hiring a professional moving company just makes sense.

College Grads Moving is a professional NJ Mover that has been in business since 1986. They are fully licensed to work in New Jersey and the Continental United States.
The word luggage entered printed English in 1596. The word actually evolved from the word "lug" as in something that is carried or dragged about, denoting something larger in character used to carry articles of clothing and personal belongings when an individual is traveling. Shakespeare used the term in his writing as did Jonathan Swift. Luggage can be described as a single article or container to carry a traveler's belongings as well as a set of suitcases and bags belonging to one person. It can also refer to the conglomeration of bags and suitcases carried by a group of passengers such as those on a plane or using another form of transportation. Regardless of the usage, luggage has been around for a long time and has changed in many ways over the years.

Traditional luggage was usually in the form of a trunk or large box. These "steamer" trunks were typically used for long journeys, often by sea, whereby the traveler would be relocating for a significant amount of time and would need, not only to bring a substantial amount of their belongings, but would need a guarantee that these belongings would remain safe, dry and secure over the course of a long journey. Trunks were typically made of wood or metal.

The passenger his or herself would not normally be responsible for the transport or placement of their trunk or chest, as many passengers are today. Rather the responsibility of handling the luggage would fall to a porter or other person designated as a luggage handler on a given trip. This falls back on the etymology of the word itself. The first part of the word, lug, indicates the attempt to move or relocate something that is large, heavy or cumbersome. Surely, a well-to-do passenger would not be responsible for such strenuous activity on their own.

Passengers who traveled in this time period and were able to afford the type of luggage and assistance referenced above, also would have booked their trip in a certain way. Most passengers would have book their ship passage Port out and Starboard home. The reason for this particular combination is that at this time it was fashionable to remain pale in skin tone as such a skin tone indicated aristocracy. Port out Starboard home bookings allowed passengers the least exposure to the sun, and also is the etymological background for the word posh. <bio>Lanny Hintz writes about http://www.luggagebagsetc.com/Coupons/Bagsbuy.com.html, http://www.luggagebagsetc.com/Coupons/Bagselect.com.html and http://www.luggagebagsetc.com/Coupons/Timbuk2.html </bio>

In case you live in a place that is situated in a low area or is close to the ocean, chances are when a powerful stormcomes you will surely be one of the unlucky people who will be affected by water damage to your home. Most likely, your belongings will be completely ruined from all that water. First, you should organize your belongings and start clearing any small debris.

1. Water Damage Restoration

People whose houses are going through water damage restoration need to be able to fully assess the value as well as the importance of each and every item on the house. Needless to say, when it comes to water damage restoration, where the majority (or practically all) of your belongings have been destroyed, you will have to make the difficult task of trying to figure out that items you would want to discard or keep. It is incredibly frustrating since you are most probably attached to your belongings but keeping things that are already beyond repair as well as may not have any use for you anymore is really impractical and will just cost you a lot of storage space once you start buying new things for you house as part of the water damage restoration program.

2. Foods And Perishables

Foods that have already been soiled because of all that water should not be eaten anymore and must be properly disposed of. Broken tableware as well as mugs, glasses as well as other kitchen tools should also be discarded if they're not fit to be used anymore. When it comes to water damage restoration, you should be extremely practical so as you will be able to quickly and effectively reorganize your life back to normal.

3. Avoid These Items

During water damage restoration you must absolutely remember to not try to operate any of your electrical appliances! The television, vacuums as well as all your other appliances need to be checked first by a professional technician before you are able to actually pick out the ones you still might be able to use and keep. It is extremely dangerous to also try to operate any of your electrical appliances while standing on a wet carpet or floors because you might just end up electrocuting yourself in the process.

4. Don't Clean Anything

Never try to dry off your house or building interiors with a blower or any heat inducing gadget. Instead of doing any water damage restoration to your house, it will only bring about mildew as well as even more moisture damage to your house, so control yourself from thinking that this is a good water damage restoration tactic.
Moving can be a tedious task, especially if you are very busy and don't have the time to take care of all the necessary details. Whether you are moving across town, or across country, you will want to be sure things go as smoothly as possible. That is where hiring a professional moving company can prove both useful and efficient. As with any other important decision, you will want to weigh the pros and cons of each possible choice. Here are six tips that will help you when making this decision.

Choose a local company. This is advisable because a company closer to home can work with you more efficiently than one in another location, and you will be able to receive assistance more quickly should problems or questions arise. It can also save you money, especially if you are moving a good distance.

Make sure the company you choose is licensed, bonded, and insured. Ask to see proof of this before making any hiring decisions. Remember, they will be moving your personal or company belongings, so you want to be sure they treat them with respect.

Check out local companies with the Better Business Bureau to find out if they are members of a storage association. This membership can be of advantage to you should any disputes concerning damage or delivery issues.

Obtain at least three estimates. This may require each company coming to your home or business to make assessments, but will serve you well in the long run. Go over details such as the amount of belongings you have, and whether or not you want the company to pack or wish to do it yourself.

Make sure you get everything n writing, including all estimates and other pertinent information. Ask questions if there is anything you don't understand, and have everything clarified before the people giving them estimates leave your home. Also, ask questions pertaining to cost and coverage. Keep in mind that two similar estimates may not always include the same services and protection, so do your homework very carefully. Such questions include: does the packing price include the cost of paper and boxes, is the company covered for replacement value of your belongings if they are lost or damaged, and what all is included in the estimate you have received? These answers will help you determine what company you choose. Remember, price does not always equal quality.

Lastly, always ask for verifiable references. Each company should have a list of satisfied customers you can contact as references. Three will generally be okay. Ask each if he or she was satisfied with the services received, if any problems occurred, and if so, how they were resolved, and if the movers were professional and courteous, ETC. By following these tips, you should be able to find a reliable moving company who will pack, move, and protect your belongings with the respect they deserve. <bio>Premiere Van Lines - The professional choice for Toronto Movers.
When it comes down to getting cheap home insurance then the best way to make sure that you not only get the cheapest deal but also the most comprehensive, is to look online. Insurance is a complicated matter and getting the best cover can be an absolute nightmare and for this reason you should consider going with an independent and specialist broker.

Good deals in home insurance can be found, but you have to know what to look for, what you need and also what is involved in a policy. All polices have exclusions within them and it is important to know what you are covered for and what you are not covered for. Never just take it for granted that because its in your home and you have insurance, then it will be covered.

This applies in particular to any usual or very expensive items which you have in your home, if you have items such as these then you might have to take out extra cover. Again this is where the expertise of a specialist broker can come in handy; by talking over your requirements they can look around and make suggestions that can in the long run save you money while making sure you have adequate cover.

While it is important that you get cheap home insurance you don't want a poor quality policy, a poor quality policy will have many exclusions within it, which means that if you haven't read it thoroughly you could find if it comes to claiming you are turned down, which could be very costly.

Before taking out insurance you should have made an inventory of all your belongings and will have an overall value should they need to be totally replaced if the worst came to the worst. Of course, while none of us likes to think of losing our belongings and home completely it could happen. Along with the inventory of your belongings you will also have to come to a price when it comes to the actual building itself if it should be destroyed. Only then can a broker get you comprehensive and fully covered cheap home insurance. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

There is a misconception that only those who are buying their homes are eligible for personal property insurance. This is simply not true. Those who are renting apartments, condos, or other types of dwellings are eligible for renter's insurance, and having this type of insurance is a very good idea for many people.

As you might imagine, renter's insurance does not cover the actual structure of the building. The owner of the structure will have his or her own policy for that coverage. In some cases, they may also have some type of insurance that would cover your losses under certain events, but renters should not depend on that. It is far better to have your own coverage on your personal items. This way you know for sure that you are covered in the event something happens to the dwelling.

It should be noted that renter's insurance does not cover injuries that should happen on the property. Again, the property owner should have that on his or her policy.

What it does cover, however, are those personal items that belong to you. This might include furniture, stereos, electronic equipment, desktop or laptop computers, clothing, artwork and other belongings. Should you lose your belongs by either fire, natural disaster, or theft you can get them replaced under your renter's insurance policy.

As you might imagine, with so many people now owning things like computers and flat screen televisions, it does not take many items lost to add up to a significant amount of money that would be needed in order to replace these items. Renter's insurance is very affordable and one of the best ways to decide if it is a good idea for you or not is to take a walk through your home and tally up the cost of your belongings if they were destroyed by fire or flood. You may be surprised at how much you actually own.

Insurance rates for your belongings will vary from company to company so it is a good idea to shop around for the best deals. On average, most people can purchase good quality renter's insurance for about $200 per year.

Once you purchase a policy it is important that you keep an updated list of your personal items. This means adding to the list when you buy something new, and letting the insurance company know about it, as well as deleting items from the list should you no longer possess the item. Again, you need to keep the insurance company updated on that as well.

When you purchase something, keep your receipts. Receipts and other documentation such as credit card billings that state what an item is and how much it cost should not be kept on the premises. If those documents burn up or are otherwise destroyed you will have to track down copies and that can increase the length of time before settlement significantly.

Lastly, if you move to another dwelling, you want to make sure that you notify the insurer as soon as possible. In some cases, moving from a high crime area to a low crime can actually save you money on your premiums. <bio>Peter Kenny is a writer for The Thrifty Scot, please visit us at http://www.thriftymortgages.co.uk/remortgages and http://www.thriftyscot.co.uk/Loans/bad-credit-loans.html http://www.thriftyscot.co.uk/Loans/122007/payment-cards-for-businesses.html </bio>

If your home is on the market, you have probably already taken great care in cleaning the interior and making necessary renovations that could help attract prospective buyers. However, before your home is shown to any buyers or agents, you should consider performing a few tasks to help protect your privacy. Not only should you try to remove personal items from tabletops or counters, but it is also wise to remember that potential buyers will open closets, cabinets and built-in drawers as they assess the property. To protect your privacy and prevent prospective buyers from forming any biases against you, you may want to follow these four simple steps before showing your home.

1. Hide your mail

When dealing with your mail, you should either remove it from your home or place it where it cannot be found. If prospective homebuyers spot collection notices or excessive credit card bills in plain sight, they might immediately assume that you are in debt and need to sell your home quickly. Furthermore, as no one wants strangers to read any of their personal materials, you should try to conceal all of your mail -- down to the last furniture catalog.

2. Take down photos and diplomas

While some home sellers feel that such personal documents could add an atmosphere of coziness to their property, you may want to consider clearing the walls. Following this simple step could help prevent any type of bias from prospective homebuyers. For instance, home sellers with recent diplomas might be perceived as deep in debt and willing to sell at any price. Likewise, wedding photos can reveal the homeowner's religion, which could influence certain buyers.

3. Clean the closets and drawers

If you have ever been to an open house or toured a home for sale, you can probably understand the desire to dig around. In most cases, prospective homebuyers simply open closets and cabinets to inspect the space or make judgments about the construction of the home. While most people who view your home will not try to snoop in your personal belongings, try to pack away anything that could tell an unwanted story about your life.

You may want to clear out all drawers and closets entirely before the home is shown to buyers. After your personal belongings have been removed from the home or carefully packed away, work with your agent to stage closets and large cabinets. By replacing your own belongings with examples of how the home can be utilized, you will take the focus off yourself and help prospective buyers visualize themselves in your home.

4. Turn down the answering machine

This final step is probably the most overlooked by home sellers. Just as you can not anticipate what arrives in the mail each day, you cannot predict when you might receive an unwanted phone call. If you are engaged in an open house or private viewing, you certainly don't want a prospective buyer to overhear a message from a collection agency or credit card company. Furthermore, as you are in the process of selling a home (and possibly buying another), you don't want buyers to know anything about your personal business. Hence, before any prospective buyers enter your home, you may want to mute your answering machine to prevent any uncomfortable exchanges.

In conclusion, when you are ready to show your home to prospective buyers, try to remove anything that might drive a buyer away or create an unwanted bias. Whether it's as simple as removing your personal mail or staging the closets of your home's bedrooms, a bit of work can not only protect your privacy but can potentially help sell your home.<bio>Greg Gagnon writes select articles about important topics related to real estate for the Coldwell Banker Corporation.
The days immediately following a flood are the most crucial to the potential for recovering any personal property that may be damaged by the floodwaters. Hurried recovery tactics, however, can lead to further damage of your property and potential harm to yourself and your loved ones. To recover from a flood safely and affectively:

1. Determine the type of flood experienced

2. Assess the damage that has occurred

3. Determine the safest way to salvage belongings

Determine The Type of Flood Experienced

Floods vary by origin and damage. Floods can develop slowly and take days to reach their final peak. Flash floods, on the other hand, come about within a matter of minutes from seemingly nowhere, typically caused by a surge in rainfall in dry areas. Floods that occur near a defined lake or river are called overland floods and are often weather related. Levee and dam breaks can also create flooded areas.

Stagnant floodwaters can be contaminated by oils, fuels or sewage. If the flood is accompanied by a hurricane, earthquake or severe storm, downed power lines can also electrically charge the water making it entirely unsafe. Also, be wary of any wild animals in post-flood areas. Experts recommend residents avoid all areas with remaining floodwater until it recedes and never enter moving floodwater as it can very easily cause a loss of footing.

Dry areas may also be potentially dangerous after a flood, depending on the severity. Floodwaters can erode roads and walkways, making them dangerous to traverse. Buildings can also be damaged.

Assess the Damage That Has Occurred

Never immediately enter your home or office after a flood - the floors and stairs may have sustained damage and may no longer be safe. Instead, walk a safe distance around your home's foundation and check for loose or downed power lines, gas leaks, structural damage, and any other potentially dangers. Call a qualified building inspector or structural engineer if you suspect your building has sustained any dangerous flood damage.

Once it has been determined that entering your home or office building is safe, the next step is to assess the damage sustained to your valuables and personal belongings. Not all damage means utter ruin. Water damaged photos, books or documents may not necessarily need to be thrown out. Proper document recovery techniques and document restoration companies can help you stem the loss of your most beloved belongings. Seek out a professional to help you determine if any of your essential materials can be saved, even if you believe them to be beyond repair. Quick response and attention to important pieces may make the difference in its potential for restoration.

Determine The Safest Way To Salvage Belongings

A dedicated document restoration service will be able to help you determine the best system for saving your belongings. Many believe that the best technique for recovering your water-damaged personal effects is the desiccant air dry distribution system. Not all companies offer this recovery service. The desiccant air dry technique is an energy-efficient and safe way of removing moisture from the air surrounding your belongings, allowing the water that is trapped inside them to evaporate quickly and harmlessly.

When looking for a restoration specialists make sure the system they use completely dries the materials. Mold damage can occur long after a flood if valuables are not completely dry before they are returned.

Simple steps taken in the first few days after a flood can make a big difference in the long-term detriment the waters cause a family, home or office.<bio>Recovering from a flood water disaster is overwhelming and tedious.
There are many reasons today why you may find yourself in need of a good storage facility. Maybe you are downsizing or between homes, have possessions that you can't bear to part with but that are cluttering up your new, tiny apartment, have boxes of business documents that are taking over your office, are relocating or traveling overseas for an extended period of time or maybe you just bought a new car and actually need to reclaim the garage. Whatever your needs might be, there are storage solutions available for you.

Short Term Self Storage

This option is being utilized all over the country. Convenient, flexible and easy to use, self-storage is perfect for short-term transitions.

Self-storage is provided in clean, secure, sometimes climate controlled environments in specialist facilities. You choose the size of your storage locker, which can range from a small closet style to the size of an apartment, and determine what length of time you need the locker for. Self-storage is rented month-to-month and you can upgrade or downgrade your locker as your requirements change.

For self-storage you apply your own lock to the storage unit and are the only one with access to your belongings. You are free to come and go as you please and remove and replace items at will. There is no charge for accessing the facility and you can do so at times that are convenient to you (subject to storage opening hours).

With self-storage you are responsible for packing your belongings and delivering them to the facility. You choose how best to fill your locker or storage space, which allows you the freedom to put items you might need frequently at the front, and seldom used belongings at the back.

When you decide you no longer need the storage locker you simply pack up your possessions and move them out. Many self-storage agreements can be terminated on short notice allowing you a lot of flexibility with your storage needs.

Long Term Public Storage

What if you are in need of a more permanent storage solution?

Perhaps you are relocating overseas for a number of years or traveling and don't want to sell all your worldly possessions. Maybe you inherited some antique furniture that won't fit in your current home but you are planning on upsizing in a year or two. Maybe you have a classic car, boat or other item that you will not be using for a while. This is where long-term public storage comes to your aid.

With this kind of facility the management has more control over the care of your possessions (when you are away overseas this is a comforting notion.) They organize the storage of your goods and ensure that everything is packed away properly for long-term storage.

Usually with long-term storage you will be provided with a lease that will normally save you money over the month-to-month rentals. Access is by authorization only and this keeps your belongings secure while you are away. Some companies use giant containers in climate controlled warehouses for long-term storage while others use regular looking storage facilities.

In the end, which storage facility you choose, is determined by your particular storage needs. Both long-term public storage and short-term self-storage offer great solutions for people and their possessions.
Will professional movers pack everything for me?

Movers offer a service that will carry all your belongings to the place where you will relocate. Almost all the things are brought to your home including your furniture and large appliances. The moving company may require specific amount of materials for delivery. Most of the moving companies only cater to large amounts of luggage other than minor movers.

Anything from plants to pets, to furniture, to home appliances is acceptable for most moving companies. Just read the moving company's information sheets as some moving companies. Each has its own guidelines as to what is an isn't acceptable.

* How secure are my possessions while on the moving van?

Your moving company should always make your possessions secure during travel. They should be liable for any destroyed object in the trip. You should always choose a company that gives this kind of service.

• After the service of the moving company, check for the things that has been ruined or lost during the trip.

• Give the detailed description about the missing object in your checklist. You should keep yourself aware of the mover's liability on the ruined or missing materials referring to the amount of insurance protection given by the moving company.

• File a loss or damage to the company in nine months after your properties has been delivered.

• Do not accept a settlement offer or mover's claim for denial. You can try to contact the American Moving and Storage Association if you are not fully satisfied with the service they gave you.

* What if the movers break something?

Most of the moving companies promise a safe and secured travel. You need to make sure that the contract you will be signing with the moving company includes provisions committing them to replace the items damaged or ruined during their transfer of your belongings.

Most moving companies offer replacements to your belongings that have been wrecked during the travel. These companies are willing to replace the things because it is a part of the contract. Just make sure that your chosen company is reliable to make good on the contract. Never choose a moving company that does not offer this service.

* Should I get my own moving insurance or does the moving company insure my stuff?

You should always make sure that your belongings are safe during travel. To secure your belongings, get them insured. However, what is the best way to get them insured? These are some of the steps to help you secure your belongings with a moving company.

• Ask about the difference between valuation and regular insurance. • Ask the exact amount of the insurance you want to have. • Have all your valuable items insured. You should obtain an appraisal that says that your belongings are of high value. You should present receipts to prove that they are expensive. • Have all your valuable items in a photo, or take a video of them. • Sign a conditional inventory, which describes your expected condition after the delivery. The inventory should include the missing items in your checklist. • Call the mover and inform them about your concern. File a claim as soon as possible.

* How can I find out whether a moving company is reputable?

You as a costumer have the right to ask about the background of a particular moving company. You need to know whether they are capable of giving you the service you deserve.

To find a reputable moving company, you can ask other people about how the company serves them. You can also try logging on to some websites that give you pointers on how to choose a reputable moving company.

Moving companies should be open to any questinos you have regarding the services they offer. Feel free to ask questions, the Customer Care Agents are there to provide you with answers to your questions. <bio>Manerva Archer is a regular contributor to moving- and corporate relocation-related books and sites such as http://www.Moving-HQ.com </bio>

Are your house contents insured? Really? Are you absolutely certain? If you're under insured, from a legal point of view, you may as well not be insured at all. Your insurer may well simply scale back your claim by the amount you're under-insured, but they would be within their rights to reject the claim totally.

Many people under-estimate the value of their personal possessions. If you go through your home, room by room, and make a rough mental note of the contents, you may be very surprised at the result. Don't forget to include portable electrical items, jewellery, designer clothes and paintings and even photograph frames. It's often the smaller items that are easily stolen in a "smash and grab" type of burglary and these can be the very items which you overlook in your valuation.

When working out the premium for your policy, insurers use your postcode, the size of your home and the claims history of the area. Contents calculators are often available online, which are useful in deciding the level of cover required. There are steps you can take to help to cut premiums and stay safe.

In addition to the normal alarm system, you could think about installing motion-activated lights at the entrances to your house, not only are they a deterrent for the burglar but they're convenient for your own use too. A security cover inside a letterbox makes sure a thief can't gain entry by putting a hand or instrument through it to open the door. Fitting all outside doors with efficient key-operated locks and bolts is a good idea.

Inside the house, valuables could be kept in a safe and security fittings could secure any precious works of art. It's a good idea to use some kind of marking or security code and record serial numbers, where this is relevant. Photographs of your valuables are useful too.

There's a wide range of policies available. The majority of standard household policies will cover contents of up the £75,000. It is normal for items valued at over £1,500 to be listed separately. These will be covered inside the home, but would need "personal belongings insurance" if they are to be insured away from home. It is possible to arrange cover for your offspring's belongings whilst they're away from home as long as they're "temporarily" removed and would normally be in your home.

For those who find their contents exceed £75,000, there are specialist policies covering "high net worth" clients. The range of cover extends to second homes abroad, which is useful for personal items. On this type of policy there is no need to list items separately as all items are covered.

It is possible to get discounts on insurance if you cover both your home contents and take out buildings cover with the same company.

There are wide-ranging offers and discounts available, with lots of companies vying for your business. Remember you need to insure for the full value of your belongings to avoid the risk of a claim being reduced or rejected, whilst still getting the very best value for money. The easy way to do this is via an on-line insurance broker. They'll be able to search a wide range of insurers and come up with the right policy to suit your own particular needs. Not to mention the (up to 10%) on-line discount.

Stay safe. <bio>New and up to date articles from insurance rover http://www.insurance-rover.co.uk </bio>

Moving can be such a daunting task, especially when you have a lot of belongings. You pack them up, the movers come get them, the movers move those items to your new home, and then you have to unpack the very things you had just packed. If there was only a better way, right? Well, until the technology for "packing robots" is developed, this is the only way in which packing is going to be done. But how about those things that the movers won't move? What do you do with those things? Most of all, what items will they not move? These are great questions because some individuals are not prepared for the answers.

What they won't move

Movers are pretty good about moving your belongings to your new home. However, there are some things you need to know before you start scrambling for the boxes and tape. Those things are what they won't move. Those things are:

•	Pets -- If you have pets, you need to make arrangements to move them. Hopefully you're not taping them up in boxes for the movers to move them. However, it is a federal regulation that prohibits them from being able to transport animals in their vans. That is why you must place your pet in a cage or carrier in your car and move your pet yourself.

•	Plants -- Not moving live plants is another thing that is federally regulated. There is an exception, though. That exception is if your destination is within 150 miles. If so, they can move them. Then again, you have to check with the movers and their individual policies.

•	Flammable items -- Moving companies cannot move anything flammable or combustible. That means you have to ensure that oil and gasoline are removed from lawn mowers, weed eaters, and other power equipment. They also cannot transport any type of fuel such as propane tanks, tiki torch oil, or gas cans.

•	Hazardous chemicals -- If you have pesticides or other items that can be considered hazardous, they are not able to move that either. Fertilizers and the such must not be placed within a moving van. This includes anything that is toxic. You must find another way to transport these items.

Not transporting these items are both for the safety of the moving company and to protect your belongings when their inside of the moving van. It is quite understandable why you do not want flammable items in the van with your clothing and your furniture. It is also understandable why you do not want your pet in the back of the van either. The environment is unsafe for your furry friend.

Things to note

Also make a note that transporting personal items should be done by you. This is in references to essentials such as a change of clothes, medications, and toiletries if your move is a long one. You also want to keep your valuables such as jewelry and family heirlooms with you. That way you know that they are safe by being able to keep track of them at all times.

You also need to read the small print in the agreement that is given to you by the moving company. Make sure you read everything that is given to you so that you know the restrictions and can accommodate those restrictions before moving day. That way you are prepared and you're not running around looking for a solution that is probably packed away in an unknown box in the back of the moving truck.<bio>Canada's residential, commercial movers.
If your family is anything like mine, then you've probably gathered a few too many "treasures" over the years. It is so easy as your family expands and grows to gather all kinds of things that you probably will never need or use again. About once every other year I get overwhelmed with amount of stuff that my family owns yet doesn't need. My solution? A huge yard sale that allows each member of our family to go through all (and I mean all) of their belongings and come up with items that they can sell.

Having a yard sale is a great way to simplify the belongings that have accumulated in your home. The first step that my family always takes in having a yard sale is sitting down for a family meeting. During this meeting we discuss the reasons why our life and home have gotten complicated again and we agree on having a yard sale. We discuss what kinds of items we might be able to sell and we choose a perfect weekend for the event. It is important to get everyone in the family in on the initial planning stages and also to see that each of your children understand the need and the reasons for having a yard sale. If you do not get your children on board with an understanding of why you're having a yard sale they will probably not be very apt to participate fully in the event.

After our family meeting we begin going through our possessions. The children get to go through their room and their belongings on their own and set aside items and clothes that they think would be good to sell in the yard sale. My wife and I do the same and then we check over the things our kids have selected for sale just to be sure we do not see anything brand new or worth keeping. Once we have agreed upon all of the items that we will attempt to sell, we begin the process of pricing our items for the yard sale.

We are convinced that every part of the yard sale process must be done as a family. We do the pricing together, we set out all of the items for the yard sale together, and we run the yard sale together. We have learned that the yard sale goes better when everyone feels a sense of ownership about what is happening with the sale.

If you and your family are looking for a great way to simplify your home and to do a great activity together, look no further than doing a yard sale. It is a great way to build relationship and to teach your children and yourself important skills about living simply. <bio>Triston Huntsmin and his family of five have taken many opportunities to have yard sales and he loves them every time.
