Here are the best back workouts that work your body, yet are easy to do.

Easy Back Workouts

One of the easiest back workouts you can do is also very good for your back and abs. This will help you strengthen your back and help you improve posture. Here's how you do it.

Get on your hands and knees on an exercise mat. Look straight ahead, and align your back so that your spine is pointing like an arrow behind you.

What you want to do is allow your pelvis to drop toward the floor. Tightening up your abs will help you work them very well while you're doing these strengthening back workouts.

Don't push your pelvis, just allow it to drop. Your butt will be pointing out more, and your chest will be extended. Then you will lift your pelvis back up.

Keep your abs tightened and hold this position for five seconds. Then you will allow your pelvis to drop again. Repeat this exercise up to 15 times.

Start out with what feels comfortable for you. You can then work up to 15 repetitions. This is one of the easiest back workouts you can do, and it's low impact and will not damage your back.

This is a great way to learn how to have good posture. A great tip for posture is to point the bottom of your sternum and your tail bone to the floor.

Stand up straight and imagine that your spine is an arrow pointing at the floor. Doing this and the great workout above will strengthen, and exercise your back.

Want to get a ripped back? http://www.backworkouts.net has a lot of fantastic and free back workouts that will strengthen your back and transform your body. <bio>Discover how to chisel and strengthen your back at http://www.backworkouts.net Jessica S also owns http://www.celebrityworkouts.net and http://www.pilatesworkouts.net </bio>

Ovarian cancer, as in all other forms of the disease, is graded by treating doctors according to its level of advancement. The stages of ovarian cancer are graded one to four, with four being the most serious stage.

Stage one of cancer of the ovaries is the least advanced stage. This is where the cancer has been discovered relatively early in its development and has been confined to the ovaries only. In stage one, as in all the other stages of the disease spread, there are also sub stages, and they run as follows:

Stage 1a: The cancer is contained inside one ovary

Stage 1b: The cancer has spread to both ovaries

Stage 1c: The cancer is contained to one ovary and there is some evidence of cancerous cells appearing on the ovary's surface.

Stage 1d: The cancer is contained to one ovary and there is some evidence of cancerous cells found in the abdominal fluids.

Stage 1e: The cancer is contained to one ovary and the ovary ruptures either before or during surgery.

In stage two of ovarian cancer, the cancer has spread to be outside the ovaries. The sub stages of stage two run as follows:

Stage2a: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb

Stage 2b: The cancer has grown into other tissues in the pelvis. These can be either the rectum or the bladder.

Stage 2c: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as other tissues in the pelvis as well as there is some cancer on the surface of at least one ovary

Stage 2d: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as other tissues in the pelvis as well as cancer cells are found in abdominal fluid during surgery.

Stage 2e: The cancer has spread into the fallopian tubes or the womb as well as the ovary ruptures before or during surgery

Stage three of the ovarian cancer's development means the cancer has spread outside the pelvis into the abdominal cavity. The cancer is also designated as being stage there if cancerous cells are found in the lymph nodes of the upper abdomen or groin.

The sub stages of stage three run as follows:

Stage 3a: Cancer can be seen under the microscope in tissue taken from the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum)

Stage 3b: Tumorous growths smaller than 2cm are discovered on the lining of the abdomen

Stage 3c: Tumorous growths smaller than 2cm are discovered on the lining of the abdomen, or the lymph nodes in the upper abdomen, or the groin or behind the womb contain cancer.

Stage four is the most advanced of all forms of ovarian cancer, where the cancer has spread into other body organs such as the liver or lungs. <bio>Fred Camaros is a medical researcher and writer.
For most people, gout pain usually shows up first in the joints of the big toe. However, as gout progresses, and more and more uric acid builds in the system, it has to find other joints where it can go. This means you might get gout pain in other places that can cause even more pain than that which you might feel when it is in your toe. So its entirely possible that your gout and hip joint pain might very well be related.

Of course, treating your gout can help reduce the amount of pain you have in your hips, but that can take a while. When you have gout and joint hip pain, you want to find something you can do for immediate relief.

The hip joint is where the pelvis and the leg connect, so naturally any type of discomfort there is going to cause difficulties. Just walking or even sitting can be painful, and moving from one position to another can be next to impossible, depending on the amount of pain you have.

One of the first things many do when they have gout and hip joint pain is take NSAIDS. These are pain relievers that can also reduce some of the swelling in the area. That takes some of the pressure off of the joint, and can add some flexibility where it might have been stiff and unforgiving.

A treatment of heat and ice can also help when gout and hip joint pains are making it hard to move around. Ask your doctor about the proper way to do this type of simple treatment. The heat and then the cold ice packs can help bring some of the swelling down and then keep it from flaring back up right away. If you can apply this therapy and stay at home, try using a walking stick when up and about to avoid putting weight on the hip. Avoid swift motions, and take your time moving around. When seated or lying down, find a position that puts the least amount of stress on your hip and pelvis area.

A treatment of heat and ice can also help when gout and hip joint pains are making it hard to move around. You might also want to consider that gout is not the only reason that you are having pain in the hip, and that there may be other contributing factors. If you can get those factors addressed, the gout attacks in your hip area might not be as bad in the long run.
Yoga is by far one of the most beneficial exercises out there today, and if you are interested in learning about yoga then one of the first things that you are going to have to make yourself aware on is that of the different yoga postures that are involved.

About The Different Yoga Postures

When it comes to the different yoga postures, there are many, however if you are a newcomer to yoga, then the first yoga postures you are going to want to learn about are the most basic ones.

One of the most basic yoga postures of all is the Sukhasana, which is considered as being one of the most basic and easiest yoga postures of all, and it is a starting position which helps you to focus on awareness of your breathing and your body and as well helps to strength back muscles and to open the groin and hips.

In order to complete this position you need to sit cross-legged with your hands on your knees, and focus on your breath. Make sure that you keep your spine straight and push the sit bones down into the floor. Allow the knees to gently lower, and remember that if the knees rise above your hips, you need to sit on a cushion or block in order to fix this.

Another one of the most basic or beginning postures is known as the Dog and Cat, and this one works primarily to increase the flexibility of the spine. It is really two poses, one flowing into the other. You begin on your hands and knees, keeping your hands just in front of your shoulders, with your legs about hip width apart.

Then, as you inhale, tilt the tailbone and pelvis up, and then let the spine curve downward, dropping the stomach low, and then lift your head up. Stretch gently, and as you exhale, move into the cat position by reversing the spinal bend, tilting the pelvis downward, and drawing the spine up and the stomach in.

There are so many other yoga positions however you want to start with these and the other most basic and easy positions first, so that you can start here and then work your way up as you increase in talent and flexibility.

Remember that yoga is one of the best exercises that you can do by far, and so you should definitely try it out for yourself, at least once, just to get a feel for it and you are surely going to fall in love with it. <bio>Ann Marier writes informative articles about family life and general health issues, Her lastest are about losing weight with yoga.
Generally, the fundamental Pilates Method exercises were developed for one particular purpose -- to prepare the body for Pilates work by warming up the muscles and teaching movement awareness.

Experts often suggest that while performing the basics of Pilates Method exercises, try to engage abdominals with a neutral pelvis. Also, picture your mind feeling hollowed out while paying much attention to breathing and exhaling deeply. Then, depress your shoulder blades as you lift arms and stabilize with a neutral pelvis.

Here are some Pilates Method exercises you can do to attain the best results:

Pilates Methods Exercises for Pelvic Stability and Awareness

Breathing -- Kneel on mat and lightly place you hands on lower ribs. Inhale deeply and feel your rib cage open. Then, exhale deeply and close rib cage. Just imagine that the waist is being wrapped on the exhalation. Repeat this five times.

Imprint and Breathing -- Do this by positioning yourself with knees flexed and feet flat on floor. Lightly place your hands on the lower rib cage and inhale deeply and feel lateral and posterior rib cage expand. Exhale deeply and feel spine imprint on mat. Also, maintain neutral pelvis and repeat this sample Pilates Method exercises for five times.

Knee Stirs-In -- Supine position with hand under knee. Make small circles of femur in socket, while the opposite leg remains flexed with foot flat on the floor. Just like the above mentioned Pilates Method exercises, maintain neutral and stable pelvis. And, experience a smooth and circular movement in your hip joint.

Bridges (Pelvic Press) -- Do a 10-degree lift using the core muscles without using the gluteus maximus. Then, lift onto shoulders and thoracic area. Lower slowly from the shoulders to the starting position. Also, keep your abdominals contracted the entire time and focus on lifting and lowering one vertebra at a time. For this form of Pilates Method exercises, it is important that you exhale whole you lift and inhale whole you lower.

Side-Lying Stability (Thigh Advance/Retraction) -- Position on side while head on arm. Support in front of the body with your opposite arm. Then, flex foot of top leg and stretch leg away from hip joint. Retract slightly and repeat five times. Imprint side of rib cage and use core muscles to stabilize pelvis and spine.

Pilates Method Exercises for Cervical/Thoracic Region Stability and Awareness

There are basically three main simple Pilates Method exercises that are usually done for the cervical or thoracic region awareness and stability. These Pilates Method exercises include, but are not limited to:

Neck Curl -- Position supine, knees flexed, and feet flat on the floor. Support head with hands and lengthen back of neck as chin drops toward chest and head lifts off floor. Return head to floor while elongating the back of neck. Just repeat three times. As one of the basic Pilates Method exercises, this isolates neck muscles and helps center head on neck.

Puppet Arms -- This exercise is for the scapula movement and stabilization. Just position supine, knees flexed and feet flat on floor. Extend arms up over shoulders. Lift lower arms while abducting the scapula and depressing the shoulders. Perform same movement with arm stretching diagonally across chest to engage the obliques. Repeat each exercise three times.

Cat-Flexion/Extension of Spine -- Position on all fours with wrists under shoulders and knees under hip joints. Flex spine toward ceiling and then lower and arch into extended position. Keep arms straight and repeat for five times.

Note that you can do these basic Pilates Method exercises before you engage in a more advanced mat works for better results. <bio>Pilates wellness work out: Balance your brain body connection.
What is Anklyosing Spondylosis?

Ankylosing Spondylosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the joints of the spine. manifested by fusion(ankylosing) and inflammation(spondylosis) of some or all of the joints and bones of the spine. It is a painful progressive disease affecting mainly the spine. It can also affect other joints, tendons, ligaments, also other areas such as eyes, lungs, bowels and heart.

Who get Ankylosing Spondylosis?

Every one can get Ankylosing Spondylosis. The age of onset is usually in the late teens or early 20's. It is also more common in men than women about 5:1. In men the spine and pelvis are most affected. In women the pelvis, hips, knees, wrists and ankles are more common.

How does Ankylosing Spondylosis occur?

Inflammation occurs at the attachment of the ligaments and tendons to the bone.

Erosion of the bones occur at the site.

When the inflammation subside, new bone develop and replaces the elastictissues of the ligaments or tendons.

Fusion of bones occur leading to restriction of movement.

This usually starts in the vertebra of the spine followed by the pelvis, then upwards to the chest wall and neck.

What are the Symptoms?

The onset is usually gradual with occasional back pain over weeks or months.

Early morning stiffness and pain occurs, then wears off during the day.

It gradually becomes affecting the lower back first then upwards to to the neck, resulting in stiffening of the back.

Chest expansion can become limited because of the the stiffness of the bones.

Sometimes peripheral joints such as shoulders and hips are affected.

Weight loss and fatigue may occur in the early stages.

ESR is raised in most cases. RA factor is not present.

Does Ankylosing Spondylosis occur in other organs?

It can sometimes affect the eyes, heart and lungs. These effects are not life-threatening and they can be treated with relative ease. Inflammation of the iris of the eye(Uveitis) occur in 5% of cases with blurring of vision.

Occasionally it may affect the heart causing the aortic valve to leak.

The rib joints and muscles are also affected resulting tightness of the chest making breathing painful.

How is Ankylosing Spondylosis diagnosed?

Confirmation is usually by an xray of the spine and pelvis.

How to treat Ankylosing Spondylosis?

Not every patient suffer the same degree of symptoms.

Some may be very mild requiring only exercises or mild pain killers.

Others may be more severe requiring strong NSAIDS or RA drugs such as sulphasalazine.

ANTI-TNF drugs has found to help improve the RA patients and also AS patients.

What is the prognosis of Ankylosing Spondylosis?

Symptoms comes and go. With exercise and NSAIDS pain is reduced and flexibility of the spine is improved especially with regular exercise and proper posture. Ankylosing Spondylosis is never life threatening and can be controlled but not cured. <bio>Kenneth Kee email: kwk481@gmail.com website: http://www.kennethkee.com http://kennethkee.blogspot.com http://dotkee.110mb.com http://mirage800.110mb.com http://success.myweb.io http://mirage.myweb.io Profile: A newbie to world of internet marketing.
Kidney stones are one of the more painful kidney diseases known. If you've ever had a symptom of kidney stones, you'll never forget what it feels like. Both men and women can get kidney stones but it appears there is a slight predominance of men. In fact, the typical individual with a kidney stone is a white male between the ages of twenty to sixty with a positive family or personal history of stones before. About 60% of all of those with stones that have calcium in them will get a second stone within 10 years.

Before an individual even develops a symptom of kidney stones, the kidneys are busy forming those stones. The conditions that favor the development of kidney stones are low blood volume, low fluid intake and an excess of a molecule that precipitates out in the urine. The substances that make up kidney stones are primarily calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate or uric acid stones. They pass through the kidney and end up in the urinary side of the kidney, in an area called the renal pelvis. It is there that the stones precipitate out into hard stone-like globules.

One doesn't get a symptom of kidney stones very often if the stone is big enough to remain inside the renal pelvis. It can get caught on parts of the kidney and can just get bigger. In fact, one of the few symptoms of kidney stones that remain in the pelvis of the kidney is the presence of recurrent kidney or bladder infections. This is because bacteria are incorporated within the stone and the stone acts as a reservoir for bacteria.

The primary symptom of kidney stones is extreme pain in the side or flank. The pain often radiates to the groin area and is so painful, it is likened to the pain of childbirth. When someone has such a symptom, it is important to consider doing a plain X-Ray of the kidney and ureter area to see if any kind of calcified nodule can be seen. This represents the stone itself and it is usually found stuck in the ureter. The other test that is sometimes done is a dye study using X-Rays. This test checks for the presence of a blockage in the ureters or decreased flow past the ureters.

Another symptom of kidney stones can be nausea, vomiting and sometimes a fever. If the stone causes an infection in the kidneys, the urinalysis can show infection cells in the urine. Even in the absence of infection, red blood cells will often show up in the urine sample.

When someone has a symptom of kidney stones and evidence of stones on X-Ray or urinalysis, the treatment is generally supportive. The individual is given pain medication, antibiotics and is sometimes told to strain their urine for the presence of the stone. The person also needs to drink a lot of fluids to help push the stone past the point of the ureters and into the bladder.

In some cases, the symptom of kidney stones is so severe that hospitalization is necessary. The person may need to have the stone broken up by means of shock waves used by ultrasonic machines. In rare cases, the individual has a huge kidney stone that can only be managed by surgical removal. After treatment, the person will need to keep their fluid intake up and may need to take medications to reduce the further incidence of stones. <bio>http://www.kidneydirect.com/symptomofkidneystones.html brings you the latest news on kidney stone symptoms.
Labor pains are part of giving birth to a baby. Mostly these are bearable and there are a lot that can be done to prevent suffering. By understanding where the pains in labor come from and what can be done about it, you are most likely to have a satisfying childbirth experience and wonderful birth memories.

Labor and birth of the baby is the effect of dilatation of the cervix, and contractions of the uterus and abdominal muscles. Dilation is the first stage of labor. In the second stage, strong expulsive efforts cause the advance and birth of the baby.

During your pregnancy, changes happen in your body to prepare for these events. The ligaments of your pelvis loosen to permit your pelvis to relax and allow your baby to come out. Other changes occur to adapt your body to accommodate childbirth. Despite these changes and modern medicine, it is unrealistic to aim for a childbirth without any discomforts.

Labor is said to begin when your uterus starts to contract regularly. In the days before the onset of labor, you may experience minor contractions that feel like tightening, and cause discomfort rather than pain. These contractions are important in aligning and positioning the baby for birth.

The first labor pains are grinding, scattered and irregular. Many women describe it as bad menstrual pains. The first labor pains are usually felt in the front site of the pelvis and groin. Pain is mainly caused by pressure on the abdominal and pelvic area due to powerful uterine contractions and stretching of the cervix, vagina and perineum. During labor, contractions increase in frequency and intensity and can become painful.

As labor proceeds, the pains start to appear in the abdomen. The cervix has to stretch to allow your baby to eventually pass through your birth canal. When the opening to the cervix is fully dilated, the second stage of labor -- during which your baby is born -- starts. As the baby's head advances further, pains are commonly felt at the back, hip and groin area. When the baby's birth is near, stretching of the perineum causes burning sensations. At this stage many women feel like they are going to burst. Majority of them, however, suffer only minor tears, if any, especially if good laboring positions and movement have been used to help the baby to rotate and find the easiest way out.

The baby passes through your birth canal and is born by a combination of the continuing contractions of your uterus, and your conscious effort to push your baby out by using the abdominal muscles. The physical and mental relief after vigorous laboring, and the ecstasy of getting your baby in your arms, are such a victory and pleasure that the last stage of labor - which is the birth of the placenta - is often unnoticed by the mother. As the placenta is much smaller than the baby is, and the birth canal is open, the uterine contractions push the placenta out easily.

We are so conditioned to expect pains in labor that its significance as part of the birth process is discounted. There is no need to automatically opt for epidural or -- on the other hand -- to give birth in severe pains without any labor pain relief. Unmanageable pain during labor and delivery is not normal or needed. Labor pains, when they are correctly managed, have an important part in assisting and guiding your body to give birth to a baby. <bio>Lena Leino, author of Easier, Shorter and Safer Birth, created an At-Home Labor Contraction Follow-up Chart so that you could easily document and see the progress of your labor. Now you can get this useful tool at http://www.MaternityAcupressure.com/labor-contraction-chart.html </bio>

The world that we live in is very hectic, and in most cases we end up being stressed out at the end of the day. The result of this type of lifestyle is that we are tense and our bodies have developed tension knots in our neck, shoulders and our backs. To relieve these tension knots back rubs are the simplest type of answer.

These backs rubs are usually performed by a massage therapist but you or someone that you know can give a simple back rub. Back rubs are usually accompanied by the use of an aromatic healing essential oil.

The person who is having a back rub will need to wear light clothing or a cloth that covers the area that is not going to be rubbed. Since oil may be used it is best if the cloth or clothing be ones that are fine to have oil stains appearing on.

The best way to have great back rubs is for the person who is having this rub to lie down full length on their stomach. The head needs to be turned to the sides for full comfort. You will first need to apply the oil to relax the person and let the oil slowly being seeping into the skin.

The back rub will need to start at the base of the spine. You should make sure that no pressure is applied to the spine as this can cause injuries. From the base of the spine you will need to work upwards. Your thumbs will gently knead the skin as your hands travel up long your spine.

Once you have reached the neck area you can start loosing the tense muscles here. Starting at the spine area your hands should move outwards towards the shoulders. This part of the back rub is done in a circular motion. Additionally you will need to knead the fleshly parts of the shoulders to help relax these muscles too.

When you encounter any hard knots you will need to use firm but gentle pressure with your fingers. This kneading in back rubs will loosen the knots that are found in the shoulders. When the shoulder and neck area have been fully massaged you can start the back rub to travel down towards the lower back.

This time as your hands slide downwards to the pelvis area you will need to make sure that the oil is being rubbed into the skin on the sides of the person's back. Having reached the pelvis area your hands will need to move in the direction of the hips.

At this point the back rubs are continued in this manner until all of the tense muscles are totally relaxed and you can visibly see that your back rub has made the person absolutely relaxed and calm. Back rubs as you see are one of the best ways to relieve the tense muscles from work and the day's stresses. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html , http://myshabi.blogspot.com , http://myaroma.blogspot.com </bio>

Pregnancy is a very crucial time period in the life of a woman. It is a joyous period but at the same time it can become a source of worry and uncertainty. Several changes occur in the body of a woman during pregnancy. Most of these changes have a direct or indirect effect on the spinal cord of the woman, which can later turn in to mild or severe back pain.

Both lumbar and posterior pelvic pain can occur in a woman after pregnancy. Many people believe back pain is a normal phenomenon during and after pregnancy. Wherein it is not. There are certain factors that cause pain in the back of a woman after delivering the baby. They are:

Weight gain: A woman can gain as much as a quarter of weight in her body during pregnancy. This kind of tremendous weight gain stresses the back of the expecting mother.

Change in the center of gravity: The weight that you have gained during pregnancy is carried in the front and the back portion of your trunk. This development leads to the change in the center of gravity in a pregnant woman.

Imbalance in the muscle: With the change in the center of gravity, there also occurs a muscular imbalance in the body. This imbalance in the body creates strain, especially on the back.

Fatigued Muscles: During pregnancy the muscles tend to fatigue soon. This results in poor postures of the body.

Hormonal surges: The hormones produced during pregnancy can create laxity in the pelvis. This hormone surge coupled with a change in the center of gravity gives rise to a decreased joint support.

Apart from these there are several other activities that can increase your back pain at the time of pregnancy. These activities create a pressure or load on the spine with the pelvis and hips. Some of these activities are walking, running, rolling on the bed, twisting, lifting heavy objects, bending forward and climbing stairs.

So to do away with your back pain problem, you need to follow a conservative management program. This conservative management effort should include appropriate exercises and the use of proper medications. All these efforts will promote and support your proper posture.

Apart from this, it is also important for you to pay regular visits to your physical therapist in case of prolonged and severe pain.

Always remember, back pain is common place during pregnancy but it should not be taken as a necessary part of it. Try to make your pregnancy as pleasant as possible. This will facilitate in easier delivery of the baby. So address your back pain as quickly as possible. <bio>The author writes about a number of different topics.
Tattoos have a history going back thousands of years, and very possibly tens of thousands. The earliest absolute evidence of tattoos is from the skin of a famous mummy who came to be known as Otzi. Otzi is a mummy who was found trapped in the glacial ice of the Alps in the early 1990s. Originally thought to be someone who died relatively recently, after further examination, he was found to be over 5000 years old. Among the many interesting things scientists learned about Otzi is that he had tattoos still visible on his mummified skin. Rather than the tattoos we expect to see in modern days such as symbols, animals and plantlife, Otzi's tattoos were mostly made of a series of lines. The lines were over areas in his body where the scientists also found evidence of arthritis or other painful conditions, so they believe that his tattoos may have been medicinal rather than ornamental.

Long before Otzi was tattooed in the Bronze Age, there is evidence recovered during archaeological digs of probable tattoo implements as early as the Upper Paleolithic period (38,000 -- 10,000 BC). These implements included red ochre, needles, and bone cups stained with ochre. Some figurines discovered from the same time period had designs on their skin, adding more circumstantial evidence to the belief that these very ancient people tattooed their skin.

Moving forward in history, we also know that the ancient Egyptians tattooed themselves. The first tattooed Egyptians were from the Middle Kingdom period (2160-1994 BC). The most famous tattooed Egyptian mummy from that period was a priestess named Amunet, who was discovered in Thebes. Amunet had tattooed lines and dots arranged in ornamental patterns on her chest, back, pelvis and legs. The tattoos on her back and chest were patterns of necklaces, belts and collars that were clearly ornamental. The tattoos over her pelvis were believed to enhance fertility.

In Ancient Rome, most tattoos weren't ornamental in nature, but were used in a much different way. Tattoos were used to track people who might otherwise be able to escape, desert or avoid identification. Slaves, prisoners, gladiators, Christians and mercenaries were all tattooed for these reasons. Soldiers, on the other hand, chose to be tattooed. Military tattoos were considered a great source of pride for the Roman soldier. Soldiers tattooed themselves to indicate their legion or unit and their rank, as well as for commemorative reasons such as for important battles or acts of bravery. The most common places for tattoos among Roman soldiers were on the face and the hands, presumably because the tattoos could be easily seen and their meanings quickly conveyed, but other areas of the body were often tattooed as well.

Members of many other ancient societies also tattooed themselves for various reasons. If you are interested in learning more about the history of tattoos, some other societies who have an interesting tattoo history are the early societies of Great Britain and Western Europe, South America, and Asia and the Pacific Rim.<bio>When you find that tattoo design that you instantly fall in love with something special happens.
Low back pain is second only to the common cold as a reason to visit a physician's office. Low back pain is a common problem because of our upright stance, the demands placed on us by our daily routines, as well as our habits, many of which can aggravate back pain.

It is essential to always warm up prior to getting started with a day's activity. Warm up should consist of exercises that increase heart rate as well as exercises that help stretch muscles, joints, and other connective tissue. Heart rate increasing exercises will also increase the rate and depth of your breathing which will contribute to overall conditioning. Stretching connective tissue will help avoid strain and sprain. This will reduce the likelihood of injury.

Low impact aerobic exercise is good because it improves heart and lung function. In addition, the improvement in circulation will help improve the health of ligaments, tendons, and discs in the low back, thoracic spine, and neck. Exercise also improves joint mobility as well as strength and tone in muscles.

In addition to thing you should do, there are many things you shouldn't do. For instance, avoid activities that require impact or twisting. Examples of activities that fall into this category include high impact aerobic exercise, rowing, tennis. Patients with disc disease should avoid high impact exercises of any type. Always start a new exercise program slowly. Gradually increase the intensity and duration over time.

After exercise, it is important to cool down properly. Gentle stretches, drinking cool drinks of hydrating fluids, conversation, and general overall relaxation will help you get the most out of your exercise.

Here are some specific back exercises to help you get started:

1. Lying pelvic tilt. Lie on the floor on your back with your hands over your head. Use a pillow to support your head. Tighten up your stomach muscles and tilt your pelvis up so that the hollow in the low back goes away. Your low back should remain in contact with the floor. Hold for 5 seconds, then repeat. Try 5 repetitions to start and increase over time.

2. Knee hugs. While on your back with a pillow under your head for support, bring your left knee up to your chest. Hold it with your hands and pull your knee to your chest. Hold it for 5 seconds. Then repeat this exercise with your right knee. Do 3 repetitions.

3. Leg rolls. Don't do this if you have sciatica. Lie on your back with a pillow under your head. Stretch your arms out to the side. Bend your knees and keep your feet flat on the ground. Roll your knees gently to the right as far as they will go until you feel a stretch in your low back. Hold it for three seconds. Don't force it. Then repeat the exercise while going to the left. Do three reps each side.

4. Spinal stretch in a chair. Sit in a chair with a straight back. Sit tall with your stomach muscles tight. Put your hands on your lap. Slowly curl forward and gently stretch your spine and hold it for 10 seconds. Make sure your pelvis stays locked and do not rock forward. This should be a gently movement. Hold for 10 seconds then return to your starting point. Do this one time and gradually increase repetitions as you feel better.

5. Seated side stretch. While sitting upright in a chair without arms, gently lean to the left and move it towards the floor. Do not tilt your pelvis and don't twist the spine. Breathe out as you stretch down. Hold for two seconds then return to the upright position and do the same to the opposite side.

6. Flexion. While standing, tuck you chin to your chest and gently curl forward starting with the upper back and continue through your lower back. Hold for five seconds then return to your starting position.

7. Extension. Stand erect. Then slowly arch your spine backwards, starting with your shoulders. Pull your shoulders up and back while imagining your spine lengthening as it bends backwards. Don't arch too far. Hold for five seconds then return.

8. Trunk rotations. Stand with your hands on your hips. Gently rotate your trunk to the right while keeping your pelvis facing directly in front of you. Hold it for three seconds. Return to baseline and do the same exercise to the opposite side.

9. Shoulder shrugs. Stand straight up. Take a deep breath in and lift your shoulders to your ears and hold for three seconds, then drop your shoulders slowly. And stretch then stretch your shoulders down towards your feet. Repeat 4-5 times.

10. Supine stretch. While lying supine, place your hands over your head. And bend your right knee slightly. Stretch your arms above your head and feel the stretch extend from your fingers all the way to your low back. Take a deep breath and hold the stretch for 15 seconds. Repeat with the left leg bent.

Other tips:

Use good posture. Imagine there's a string connecting the top of your head to the ceiling.

Keep your shoulders back with your chin tucked.

Always sit with good support for your low back. Keep your knees higher than your hips. Don't twist when you move. Do not slump and avoid sitting for more than one hour at a time. Sleep with a pillow between the knees. Or if you sleep on your back, put the pillow under the knees.<bio>Nathan Wei, MD FACP FACR is a nationally known board-certified rheumatologist.
The back muscles are attached to the spine. The spine consist of bones called vertebrae. The vertebrae are joined together by the facet joints. Softer disks separate the vertebrae. They allow the spine to bend and flex.

They also act as cushion in between the vertebrae and absorb shock and vibration produced by walking and running. Nerves connecting the brain to the body make up the spinal cord. The vertebrae protect the spinal cord.

Nerves branch off from the spinal cord to various organs and muscles including those in the arms and legs. The nerves carry instructions from the brain to the muscles, organs, and limbs. They also carry sensations such as pain from different parts of the body to the brain. The spine is joined to the pelvis, or hip, by the sacroiliac joints.

The disks in the back act as cushions between vertebrae.A disk contains a central area called the "nucleus pulposus," which means soft center. Disks are usually moist, like a sponge with water in it.As a person gets older, or after a disk gets injured, it starts losing water and becomes stiffer. The disk becomes less useful in cushioning the back. This is known as disk degeneration.

The most common cause of back pain is muscle spasm. An awkward movement of the back can lead to a severe muscle spasm. The muscle spasm causes the back to "lock" and can cause severe pain.A muscle spasm can occur after a simple sneeze or cough. It can also occur after an awkward bending or twisting motion.

A movement as simple as bending to tie a shoe or twisting the back to turn and face in a different direction can cause such a spasm. Muscle spasms can also occur when a heavy object is lifted incorrectly.

Muscle spasms tend to get better over time.Severe cases of muscle spasm can be treated with physical therapy and medication.Long lasting back pain can occur after accidents that have resulted in injury to the disks, the facet joints, or sacroiliac joints of the back.

Back pain is one of the most common medical problems. It affects most people at least once in their lifetime. If not taken seriously, back pain can last for a long period of time, and can become disabling.

The best way to prevent back and leg pain is to regularly exercise the back.Back strengthening and stretching exercises are recommended at least 2 or 3 times a week.

The following are some examples of back exercises: partial sit-up (With bent knee, slowly raise your head and shoulders off the floor, and hold for 3 minutes), knee-to-chest raise (lie down;slowly pull knees to chest, relaxing your neck and back, hold for 10 seconds;repeat 10 times), press-up (lie down with hands near shoulders and pelvis on floor;press up painlessly, hold for 10 seconds, and repeat 10 times).

These exercises strengthen the back muscles, which allow them to withstand the rigors of everyday activities. If you have had previous back pain or medical problems, make sure to check with your doctor before starting these exercises.

Back pain will affect most people at one time in their lives.Action can be taken to prevent back pain or postpone the degeneration of the spine and disks. Preventive measures include strengthening of the back and adopting good body techniques. <bio>Are you suffering from back pain?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis in adults and affects roughly 40 million Americans. It is a disease that affects articular cartilage, the gristle that caps the ends of long bones.

OA is a disease of weight-bearing joints such as the neck, low back, hips, and knees.

Because the ability to ambulate depends entirely on properly functioning legs, the impact of OA on the hips and knees cannot be discounted. In fact, it has been estimated that more than 100,000 Americans cannot walk independently from their bed to the bathroom.

The focus of treatment for this disease has been primarily on pain relief and lifestyle changes. Proper weight management, exercise, physical therapy, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been the mainstays of treatment. For patients with more severe problems, injections of corticosteroids ("cortisone") and viscosupplements have also been used.

Unfortunately, these measures, while temporizing, aid in symptom control only. There have been no treatments that have been shown conclusively to regenerate cartilage and to heal damaged cartilage.

Glucosamine and chondroitin preparations have demonstrated a modest effects in the maintenance of cartilage... but studies have demonstrated conflicting evidence in regards to the quantity of improvement.

Recently, though, there has been increased interest in the use of stem cells as a possible treatment modality for this disease.

The use of fetal stem cells is highly controversial... however, there is another good source that escapes the controversy- adult stem cells.

So what are stem cells? They are progenitor cells, meaning they are the earliest form of cell. Stem cells (SC) are manufactured in the bone marrow and are pluropotential. This means they can differentiate into any kind of tissue cell. Stem cells are responsible for growth and healing in the body.

The adult type is embryo-free and can create a specific body part, such as tissue, cartilage and bone.

So how are adult stem cells obtained? According to Dr. Nathan Wei, "Adult stem cells are harvested from the posterior iliac crest of the pelvis (the back of the pelvis. Using local anesthetic with ultrasound guidance, a small biopsy needle is introduced. A syringe is connected to the needle and is used to remove stem cells from the bone marrow." Dr. Wei goes on to say, "The stem cells are then prepared and concentrated using a technique involving a specially designed centrifuge."

"At the same time we also draw blood from the patient in order to isolate platelet rich plasma. This platelet rich plasma contains specific growth factors that promote the regeneration of collagen, a major constituent of cartilage," he adds.

He goes on to say, "We then will enter the knee with another small needle using local anesthetic and "tease" the cartilage and the tendons that are the source of the arthritis ... as well as the source of much of the pain- all under ultrasound guidance. When we're done we'll inject the stem cells and the platelet rich plasma. The end result is cartilage regeneration."

According to most experts, potential side-effects are minimal. "Most patients are surprised at how quickly they are active again. The advantage of stem cell therapy is that it's like getting a new set of tires. Unlike getting a knee replacement, you can go back to aerobics and running, Dr. Wei states."

Dr. Wei says, "The advantage is that the patient is their own donor and provides their own therapy. It's a lot like getting a blood transfusion for yourself."

Because the cells aren't foreign to the body, engineered or manipulated in any way, there's no chance for contamination or rejection when the isolated cells re-enter the body.

Dr. Wei did offer a caveat. "The procedure is best for patients in the 30-60 year age range. When patients are older, their chondrocytes- cartilage cells- don't respond as well to stimulation by the stem cells and platelet rich plasma."<bio>Nathan Wei, MD FACP FACR is a board-cerfied rheumatologist.
For expectant mothers, pregnancy week 25 should be a pretty big milestone. For one thing, you have passed the point of no return...you are more than halfway to having a baby to hold! At this point, mom has been pregnant for around 23 weeks and is probably getting the hang of the whole pregnancy thing. As for the baby, it is rapidly developing. At 25 weeks into the full term 40, the nostrils of the baby are beginning to open and the blood vessels in the lungs are starting to develop. Also, the baby is beginning to get a backbone during this exciting time! There are 33 rings, 150 joints and 1,000 ligaments that compose the spine, and your baby is starting to form them all.

When it comes to the expectant mom at pregnancy week 25, her uterus is around the size of a soccer ball. It's kind of a miracle to think of how your body is changing to accommodate your young one, but it probably doesn't feel like one. Because of the large size of the uterus, it is beginning to put pressure on the back and pelvis. This translates to shooting pains in the lower back and legs for many women, which can be treated with rest. Other ways to treat these symptoms of pregnancy include taking warm baths, changing positions frequently or even applying ice to the area.

On another note, at pregnancy week 25 it is imperative that you be aware of the preterm labor warning signs. The March of Dimes suggests that you never ignore the symptoms of preterm labor, as how you react to them could make a huge difference in your baby's life. Make sure you go over these symptoms with your primary caregiver, as well as what to do in the event that you experience them.
Alexander's 4 concepts of good use:

1. Allow your neck to release so that your head can balance forward and up 2. Allow your torso to release into length and width 3. Allow your legs to release away from your pelvis 4. Allow your shoulders to release out to the sides

What exactly do we mean by release?

Try this little exercise while you are reading this article.

Pick up a cup as though you are going to drink from it.

Hold the cup close to your mouth and release as much tension from your neck, shoulder and raised arm as possible without actually moving the cup.

Can you feel the tension releasing?

If so, and the cup is still there then it can be seen that any extra tension you had before "the act of release" was in fact totally unnecessary.

You were still doing enough work for the cup to remain in position. The muscles were not "relaxed" because this implies that they are doing no work at all, and this obviously cannot be the case as the cup remained in situ.

Similarly you can apply these techniques whilst sitting at your desk working.

Sit at your desk and write something that is not especially demanding. As you write, think of releasing the tension in your neck and shoulders. Feel how your shoulders drop as you release. Try to feel the tiredness evaporating along with the tension. Notice how you are holding your pen, can you grip it and write with less tension in the fingers? you should find that you can.

While you are still writing, notice any extra tension in your legs and feet, consciously release these with your feet on the floor with ankles crossed.

At first, as soon as you think about something other than releasing the tension, notice how the tension actually returns. Do not let yourself be discouraged as your body will quickly learn to stay in a state of reduced tension as it will innately "feel" that it is a more attractive state for it to be in.

Some people like to think of tension as "noise" and releasing as "quieting" that noise.

The first two concepts of good use are considered to be interdependent.

An effect of the combination of these 2 concepts is that they encourage you to maintain length in your spine.

Alexander proposed that the spine, being a curved and flexible structure, can either be posturally compressed which is obviously harmful, or lengthened, which is beneficial.

Concept 1: Allow your neck to release so your head can balance forward and up.

The well being of the spine depends ultimately upon correct head balance.

When your neck muscles are held tight your head presses down on your neck and compresses the entire spine. Therefore it can be seen that you have to first eliminate the incorrect use of your head before you can practice Concept 2, the lengthening of the spine.

Head forward and up;

You allow this to happen by freeing and releasing your neck muscles enabling your head to balance and poise easily on the top of your neck.

In accomplishing Concept 1 we need to understand and feel the difference between 2 bipolar positions namely;

- head "back and down"

- head "forward and up"

Place a hand gently on the back of the neck with your little finger under your head. Now tighten the musculature under your hand.

Note how the curve in your neck changes and the back of your head comes closer to the bottom of your neck.

This position is "back and down".

Now release the tension in your neck muscles so the head actually rotates forward.

Your face will lower slightly, but the overall effect is that your head will ease up off your neck; your neck will simultaneously lengthen as it is no longer compressed.

This position is "forward and up"

Concept 2: Allow your torso to release into length and width .

When you sit in a slumped posture the actual distance between the top of your head and the bottom of the pelvis is decreased. The spine is actually being compressed.

Similarly if you sit up straight as you might be ordered to at school with your lower back very arched. The torso is again compressed.

If you sit in such a way that normal curves in your spine are maintained with your torso muscles working only so much as to keep you upright, your torso will achieve its proper functional length.

Torso widening is a similar concept to torso lengthening.

To prevent "back arching" think of your lower back widening as your release muscle tension.

Similarly with the shoulders, to avoid shoulder rounding think of widening across the front of your torso.

Pulling the 2 concepts together:

Sitting without Back Support

A good training exercise combining the first two concepts is to practice sitting correctly without back support.

This will be uncomfortable at first, like anything worth doing in life the Alexander Technique takes time and patience to master, and then more time still, for your body to build the endurance it needs to remain lengthened after years of incorrect use, muscular atrophy and in some cases a degree of ligamental shortening.

Sit on a firm chair close to the edge.

Place both feet on the floor about 12 inches apart. You may initially be tempted to slump, but do not give in.

Think of your head leading up and your torso lengthening and widening as you "think" your back muscles into adopting their true spinal length.

To determine when you are sitting correctly, the sitting bones, "ischial tuberosities", 2 bony prominences at the very base of the pelvis will be pointing directly downwards into the seat of your chair.

If you are slumping they will move forward, if you are overarching they will lift off the chair.

As I talked about in my first article Alexander proposes that we are largely victims of the society we have created for ourselves.

As humans we have evolved a beautiful upright posture over millions of years.

But, as in many walks of modern life, as a species we have grasped defeat from the jaws of victory by designing furniture that encourages us to simply collapse into it, and also by granting ourselves the luxury of thinking it is fashionable to adopt chronic incorrect posture as the habitual norm.

The skeletal muscles work in opposing partnership with each other. Take for example sitting with your torso fully lengthened and widened. All the pairs of muscles surrounding the torso do their job in a balanced efficient way. The muscles are working in equilibrium.

In the same fashion, when you slump in your so called "comfy" sofa, the posture that the furniture is imposing on your spine requires that the back muscles are overstretched, while those in the front are over shortened. i.e. both muscular groups are being strained in opposite directions to maintain the postural position the furniture is imposing.

Neither are working efficiently to give good support.

In part 4 of the series i will be discussing Concepts 3 and 4 in detail and also "Inhibition", an essential adjunct to Alexander's four concepts. <bio>Mark J Shaw.
There are different dietary and herbal supplements that can be taken to help alleviate symptoms caused by endometriosis. That being said, before taking any form of supplement, you should always consult your doctor first. This is especially important for any woman who suffers from kidney, liver or heart problems.

The following is a breakdown of the common types of dietary (vitamins and minerals) supplements used to treat endometriosis:

Vitamins

B Vitamins - biotin, choline, cobalamin, folic acid, inositol, niacin, PABA, panthothenic acid, pyridoxine, and riboflavin --Every member of the B vitamin family works to breakdown carbohydrates, fat and protein in the body. Folic acid is particularly important as it distributes oxygen to tissue, and a deficiency in this particular B vitamin can cause anemia. B vitamins also help to improve emotional symptoms caused by endometriosis.

Vitamin C -- helps build and preserve collagen in the body, simulates the immune system, encourages healing, and resists disease. Caution: Although fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, it also contains bioflavinoids that can mirror estrogen effects on the body and cause severe cramping. Vitamin E -- helps strengthen immune system. When taken with selenium it can decrease inflammation associated with endometriosis. Caution: Women should not take vitamin E supplements if they are on anticoagulants.

Minerals

Calcium -- approximately two weeks before menstruating, calcium levels decrease in women. This drop in levels can result in headaches, pelvic pain and muscle cramps. Note: Calcium requires vitamin D to be absorbed into the body; therefore, if taking a calcium supplement, ensure it contains vitamin D.

Iron -- During menses, the average woman loses an estimated 30 mg of iron, and some women who have endometriosis may lose even more due to heavy menses. Iron deficiency can cause weakness, serious fatigue and mental haziness.

Potassium -- aids in muscle contraction, heart rate regulation, and the balance of body fluids among other things. Women who experience diarrhea during their menses can become deficient in Potassium which can result in bloating, fatigue, and weakness.

Magnesium -- Helps to relieve cramping during menstruation. Magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle and/or menstrual cramps.

Zinc -- aids in the reproduction of cells and is vital for enzyme activity. It is believed that zinc helps women cope better with their emotions during menstruation and reduces irritability.

Herbal remedies are another form of alternative medicine used to treat endometriosis. The objective of herbal therapy is to decrease pain in endometriosis sufferers, improve pelvis circulation, and establish hormonal balance. The following are a few herbs commonly used to treat endometriosis.

Evening Primrose Oil -- These herbal seeds are high in essential fatty acids which boost the production of prostaglandin E1. Caution: women who are prone to seizures should not use this herbal remedy.

Vitex agnus castus -- This herb has been considered useful to relieve endometriosis cramping and discomfort during menses because it reduces prolactin. Caution: women taking oral contraceptives should not use this herb as it can reduce contraceptive efficacy.

Cimicifugae racemosae rhizome -- This herbal remedy is used to treat many forms of pain such as dysmenorrhea.

Dandelion Tea -- This herb helps to alleviate edema and swelling. It is believed that it can aid endometriosis by relieving the congestion in the pelvis.

Colic root -- Works as a muscle relaxant, and is used to relieve bowel symptoms and cramping related to endometriosis.

Dong Quai -- this herb helps relieve dysmenorrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort/pain and anemia; conditions related to endometriosis. Caution: this herb should not be taken with anticoagulants as it increases the risk of bleeding.

Dietary supplements and herbs are not the only alternative treatments used to help women with endometriosis. Therapeutic massage can be another beneficial form of treatment. <bio>Shelley Ross has an interest in Endometriosis. This can be achieved through exercise which will strengthen the muscles, make them more flexible, and correct the muscle imbalance.

The core muscles include every muscle between the shoulders and the hips.

Back pain can result as an imbalance among these muscles for example if the front of your thigh is stronger than the back of your thigh it causes pull toward the front of your spine.

There are exercises you can do to help balance and strengthen your core muscles and we will take a look at a few of them below.

Deep breathing

This works the diaphragm which is a muscle that can help to support your spinal column and helps the lower back when you walk or run. Practice deep breathing through your diaphragm to utilize this important muscle. As a check, when you breathe in, your stomach should go out instead of your shoulders going up if you are utilizing diaphragmatic breathing.

Tummy tuck

Lie face down on the floor and squeeze your glutes to draw your abdominal muscles away from the floor. The motion should be to stretch your tailbone to your heels and not contracting your thighs. Do 15 repetitions of the tummy tuck and alternate it with the bridge.

The bridge

Put your feet up on a bench or flat on the floor and scoop your pelvis upward keeping your rib cage low. The muscle contractions should focus on the hamstrings and glutes and this exercise should be alternated with the tummy tuck above. <bio>Stephen Madsen is a staff writer at http://www.backcareguide.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.wellness-digest.com. </bio>

What is Abdomen Massage?

The abdomen houses vital organs and is a very important part of the body. The abdominal cavity comprises of the stomach, diaphragm, colon, small intestine, liver, pancreas, and gall bladder. The health of the abdomen lies with the stomach, the digestion process and reproductive organs.

The peristaltic waves of the alimentary canal (The muscular contractions of the alimentary canal in wave like fashion move contents toward the opening) begin in the upper stomach and continue down through the rectum where fecal matter is eliminated. In a healthy person, such a wave starts every 20 seconds during digestion. But, when the digestive system is unable to actively digest a meal peristalsis waves slows down. Ideally, the peristaltic waves must be able to flow uninhibited through the entire digestive tract in order to ensure the proper functioning of the intestines.

When the digestion process is inhibited due to illness, malabsorption or inactivity due to a stagnant lifestyle the abdomen undergoes immense stress from the muscles (attached from the spine to the pelvis for support) and the well connected fascia (sticky-like layer between skin, fat and muscle )network that hold the organs within the abdominal cavity. Such stress in the abdominal area may lead to pain in the sides, lower back pain, inguinal and joint pain at the pelvis. Sometimes, even the ribs may get affected.

Other problems related to the abdomen include: abdominal disorders like IBS (Crone's or Ulcerative Colitis), spastic colon, chronic constipation, dislocation of female reproductive organs and problems caused by dislocation such as miscarriages, infections, premature birth, weak new borns, backache, difficult menopause etc.

Hence, the abdominal massage is highly effective remedy in removing obstructions, correcting dislocations and restoring the harmonious flow. Abdomen massage helps open the abdominal cavity and release the fascia so the organs can lay unrestricted in their natural positions in the abdominal cavity.

Benefits of an abdominal massage

The key benefits an abdominal massage can provide include:

• General improvement in blood circulation benefits the blood vessels in the abdominal cavity. • The veins transport the blood depleted of oxygen to the heart more quickly and the arteries respond by supplying the body cells with freshly oxygenated blood. • The liver, the gall-bladder, and the pancreas receive a large share of oxygen and nutrients and release their metabolic waste products such as carbonic acid into the bloodstream.

How does one render an abdominal massage?

Here are some basic guidelines to an abdominal massage:

An abdomen massage requires the person to lie on their back, knees supported by bolsters. The abdomen is left exposed for the therapist to massage, with the chest and pelvis draped to the comfort of the person. The therapist begins the massage by warming the fascia, employing strokes from the descending colon, around to the transverse and then to the ascending colon. The therapist assists the release of the connective network, and often frees the bowel to perform its function naturally.

Warm castor oil or regular massage lotions are favored lubricants for this type of massage. Heat may also be applied for a better result though it is not necessary. An abdominal massage can be done specifically or along with a full body massage.

Incase of self massage, it is advisable to do an abdominal massage in the mornings and evenings while lying in bed for about 15-30 minutes. With regard to self massage, it is believed that the effectiveness of the massage depends upon the sensitivity to the upward and downward movements (expansion and contraction) of the abdomen. Which means it is important to use softer strokes and light pressure on the abdominal walls and one can intensify the massage strokes with gentle vibrations during the exhalation when required.

As a practice, keep the strokes in tandem with the breath because stimulating the diaphragm will not only enhance the abdominal massage but also encourage deeper abdominal breathing. During inhalation, the hands should follow the expansion of the abdomen. During exhalation, the hands must move along with the contraction. Remember: the pressure applied by the hands is almost zero while inhaling, whereas it intensifies in pressure when exhaling.

Just before exhalation, draw nine circles counter-clockwise with the right hand on the right side, followed by nine circles clockwise with the left hand on the left side. Then exhale. The pressure should be just enough to move the skin lightly. The circles should only be as large as the stretched skin permits.

The circular motions push the abdominal wall against the intestines. Be sensitive to the strokes and notice the soft structure of the intestine underneath the abdominal wall. Unless one is able to feel the intestine, one may not be able to experience the benefits of the massage.

Continue to draw the circular motions with both hands such that both the hands move towards each other. The right hand moves counter-clockwise, the left hand clockwise. Both hands are moved from the lower outside region of the abdomen to the center. Once they reach the center the hands are moved upward, then to the sides and downward. Thus, each hand draws one circle on the right and one on the left side of the abdomen.

Complete the abdominal massage by combining the circles with gentle vibrations. These soft strokes stimulate the entire intestine. One can continue doing so for three to five minutes. It is also advisable to take a 3-5 minutes break between strokes applied to the abdomen.

Other Known Abdominal Massage Therapies:

With the success and popularity of massage therapies various traditionally followed techniques have come to light. Some such known therapies used to treat and massage the abdomen include:

• Mayan Abdominal Massage: A traditional Latin American form of abdominal massage which treats all problems related to the abdomen for men and women.

• CNT: or Chi Nei Tsang is an abdominal massage therapy from China also known as a healing massage developed with the objective to ease digestion and eliminate toxins and create a free flow of chi or energy in the body. <bio>Sharon Hopkins features articles for http://www.massagehealththerapy.com, which explains various massage techniques.
