Some of the best things about Italy are found completely within the Western Alps, if you're a hiker. Of course there's the country's highest peak, which no hiker can resist. Then there is Italy's oldest national park, also found in the Western Alps. Count the amazing variety of flora and fauna, the alpine meadows, and accessible yet remote wilderness areas, and you have the perfect setting for a hiker's dream vacation in beautiful Italy. Discover Colonna mine or encounter wildlife throughout Vallone del Grand Nomenon. Reach your personal goals and try for the six-day trek along the Alta Via 2, known as a particularly challenging route. From Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso (Gran Paradiso National Park) to Valle d'Aosta, to Monte Bianco (the highest peak in Europe), there is a series of wonderful pathways for hikers and walkers who will find that traversing the Western Alps to be the experience of a lifetime.

Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso will stun you with its beauty: deep lateral peaks and plunging valleys below will amaze even the most seasoned hiker. The valleys were cut by glaciers, which left behind the jagged silhouettes and sharp peaks for which the Alps in general have become famous. There are numerous glaciers still within Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, including Italy's highest mountain, Gran Paradiso.

Gran Paradiso is just about 13,324 feet high and full of magnificent larch. Larch is a deciduous conifer, the only type found in all of Europe. Some trees get to be over one hundred feet tall and great stands of larch form sweeping green canopies in the sky which will protect you from the sun as you walk or hike the mountain. Besides larch, hikers will welcome Norway spruce, Arolla pine, and silver fir. The Arolla pine should be especially revered because it's in decline here in Italy. Furniture makers and others crave the beautiful wood for their products, and the pine has been exploited for many years.

Gran Paradiso also hosts several species of birds that are rarely, if ever, found anywhere else in Europe. Take the Bearded Vulture, which was hunted almost to extinction in the 1800s because it was thought to feed on domestic animals. Since the 1970's, however, it's been reintroduced and is now making a comeback. Also, while scaling the mountain, keep an eye out for white partridges, owl, jackdaw, alpine chaffinch, and spotted woodpecker. You might even see a lynx if you get to the higher, rocky areas during summertime. When it's cooler, they come down into the valleys.

Getting to Alle d'Aosta is easy: take a SAVDA bus from Torino (Turin) or Milan. It's also near France's Annecy, Chamonix, and Vald'Isere, and Switzerland's Martigny, if you're in either of those neighboring areas. There are also regional trains to Aosta, via Chivasso if you're leaving from Milan. You can also drive: take the A5 from either Turin or Milan.

Accommodations in Valle d'Aosta include moderately-priced small hotels around Aosta and in the suburb of Sarre. Use any one of these as you base, and enjoy the wonderful experience of hiking Italy's Western Alps, and Valle d'Aosta. <bio>Macchi http://www.keywestvacationguide.com/ </bio>

The first thing you want to do when you take your holidays to Gran Canaria is a helicopter ride. The ride only lasts for about thirty minutes, but it will give you an idea about how big the islands are and you will see where some of the interesting sites are as well. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the island and see the vast beauty of the area. You can plan this for the first day, so you have an idea about different areas you might want to see from the ground the rest of the time you are there.

The VIP Gran Canaria Island tour is another great way to see everything. This tour takes you through Mogan and Arguineguin while traveling to Los Azulejos. Then you go onto Valley of San Nicolas and stop for an incredible view of the area. Then the tour takes you along the lake road to Acusa. This is a small village and you can enjoy a breakfast that tastes delicious. Then you go onto Barranco Hondo for a visit to the cave houses and the Fatima. From there the tour continues to Fontanbales for lunch then to Tilos de Moya and back to Gran Canaria.

Holidays to Gran Canaria would not be complete if you did not see Garbo's Dinner Show. The entire show and dinner lasts for about five hours and is well worth the time. Then you could take the full day tour to Chira Lake for a lunch and some sightseeing. It is a picturesque view that will captivate your attention. There are many tours that you can take when you are in Gran Canaria. There are so many places to see that ever tour is different. You will have time for some other relaxing things to do as well.

You can enjoy a day at the beach for some warm sun and bright light. The sun beds are spread out all over so you can find a spot anywhere to enjoy the rays. The white sandy beaches are popular while some are deserted and secluded. The secluded beaches are nice for those who would like to get away from everything. The beaches have many facilities while some have outdoor cafés and snack bars. You can sit and enjoy the view from anywhere on the beach. The views are just beautiful.

The restaurants and nightclubs are something to see. Many of the restaurants look like something else. They are in buildings that you would think are something other than a restaurant. The nightclubs are always hopping and the crowds are friendly. The locals like the visitors like to get out and mingle. They enjoy sharing stories and dancing the night away. You will not regret your cheap holidays to Gran Canaria. There is something to do every day and there are some unusual things to do as well. Ask one of the locals and they will tell you the best things to do and see.<bio>You might be interested in reading the article - Good Times On A Holiday To Gran Canaria.
Golf is a favorite pastime for many people. Cheap holidays to Gran Canaria for a golf vacation are going to be exciting. There are so many golf courses that you will have no problem playing a different course every day. You will play around tropical vegetation, formations of volcanic rock, ravines, sand dunes and the ocean. The weather is perfect all year round, so playing golf is done any time of the year. You can make reservations ahead of time and be guaranteed a tee time every day. With all the golf courses to play, you will have so much time to brush up on those golfing skills.

By Mogan, you will find Anti Tauro, which is a nine hole golf course with a par three that has some incredible views of the mountain and the ocean. The course is quite simple to play. This makes a good course to start out on and get back into the swing of things. Then there is the Campo De Golf De Maspalomas course that has eighteen holes with a par seventy-three. The sand dunes are surrounding the course and if the wind blows, it can be tricky to make some of the holes.

When the International Championships are not being played at the El Cortijo de Campo, you can enjoy a day of golf on this eighteen hole course with a par seventy-two. The course is renowned for its tricky holes. The El Cortijo is another eighteen hole golf course with a par fifty-four. Many expert golfers from around the world play on this golf course. The course is the best to play after you have practiced on a few of the other course. These courses make the entire trip well worth the trip. However there are more courses to play.

In the south area of Gran Canaria, there is the Meloneras golf course and the Salobre Golf Club and Resort. The golf resort is a eighteen hole course with a par seventy-one. You will see some beautiful scenery of the volcanic formations and the ravines. The Real Club De Golf De Las Palmas is another beautiful and exceptional course to play. With eighteen holes and a view of the volcanic crater, this seventy-one par course has had a great reputation for being a golfer's delight. The greens are exceptional and the fairways are narrow and long.

When you take your cheap holidays to Gran Canaria, you will have enough courses to keep you going. Every course offers a different challenge that will test your skills. This is a great vacation for the entire family. While dad is out golfing, the family can enjoy the other attractions in Gran Canaria. The island offers beautiful beaches and many water activities that keep everyone busy and delighted. Once you make your travel arrangements, you will have a hard time staying calm while you anticipate the days of golf ahead of you.
The launching of the first Gran Turismo game for the Playstation was such a huge success that it marked the start of racing game dominance in the gaming consoles. We all know that racing simulations had been making a home in the PC for quite some time now, and although there were games such as Sega Rally, Mario Kart, and Polyphony Digital's Motor Toon Grand Prix, those games were not promising enough in terms of what the racing genre could actually offer to the gamers.

After it was initially released in Japan on 1997, and then shortly in the US and Europe, the game became an instant success. It was definitely a racer that has never been seen on the console before, therefore it does not come as a surprise that Gran Turismo and its preceding sequels collectively sold over 50 million copies worldwide. With over 250 cars to race with and 11 courses, it's astounding how you still have such personalized access to car specifications to make the game feel like what a real racing should be like.

And now, with the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, you'll get more than a glimpse of this much-awaited installment with the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Although this is not the full sequel, GT5 Prologue is a full insight into the much-anticipated 5th installment of the ever-popular racing game. You can choose to purchase this as a standalone game or you can download it via the Playstation Network. It will surely keep you all geared up until the GT5 hits market next year.

Even though this is not the full version of the game and you do not have access to the full roster of cars and racetracks, your list of choices still total an impressive 40 cars. And these cars are not a bunch of trash either, with such racing giants as Ferrari and Lotus sports cars, what better choice can you have? Not only that, you can also compete in racetracks that are based in some of the more popular racing tracks in the world, such as the Suzuka racetrack in Japan.

Son'y partnership with Polyphony Digital, which is known as the premier videogame designer, ensures that fans will have utmost fun racing in these tracks. If you find these stuffs you're hearing quite too good to be true, there is still so much in store as this is primarily only a sort of "demo" for the main game, GT5. And as if they haven't offered quite a promise yet, you can also make use of the GT5 Prologue Online mode. So long as you have a broadband connection, you can join in on the online racing fun which is able to support up to 16 players. This may be a good time to test you and your friends' racing skills.

Just like in the offline version of the game, you can also play using the Garage Mode while engaging in online play. While playing in this mode, you will be able to specify your car settings like hydraulics, engine settings, brake and suspension, tires, etc. By doing this, you can ensure optimum performance from your chosen vehicle when you compete in a race like the Global Online Rankings Challenge. The competition can be quite stiff but winning each race you've ran can be quite fulfilling.

If you're still not convince with the racing prowess of this game, these few extras that have been bundled for this game might just as well tickle your fancy. The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has got a My Page option, which enables you to either Race, go to the Garage, watch TV, or look at the Album where pictures taken while in Race mode are stored. One other interesting feature in GT5 Prologue is the Calendar, which enables you to view scheduled Races, as well as weather reports for each racing day.

Although the PS3 SixAxis joypad can be quite responsive while playing GT5, plugging in a steering wheel can prove more rewarding. This will enable you to view the action clearly via the point of view of a real racer, and see other cars disappear behind you as you run past them.

Since GT5 Prologue is rendered in full High Definition, you can be guaranteed to get the highest picture quality with every single race you run. With all its features, it's hard to imagine why this game can't be a full title. Well, this means there'll be so much more in store for the Gran Turismo 5. Until then, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will surely work up your appetite. <bio>Jason writes for Absolute PlayStation, an online magazine for fans of the Sony PS3. You can read more about GT5 Prologue, including cheats and tips online at: http://ps3.absolute-playstation.com/gt5-prologue-ps3/ </bio>

The beauty and majesty of Spain's coastlines and cities have drawn in visitors from around the world for decades. Spain has an interesting culture and many great places to learn about Spanish history and society. However, tourists need a place to go when they aren't on walking tours or taking in the scenic beauty of Spanish cities. Spanish casinos and gaming facilities offer vibrant music and entertainment, fine dining and spirits, and some of the best gaming in the world. With more than 30 casinos throughout the country, Spain's casinos offer a wide range of entertainment to tourists from all over the globe.

The Spanish city of Murcia features three of the country's finest casinos. As well, there are twenty tables for games like roulette and blackjack that will keep casual and professional gamblers playing all day long. Those who visit the casino can dine at four different restaurants, including La Terrazza and Le Gourmand. As well, there are more than fifty gaming tables that allow tourists to sit down, relax, and play a hand of poker or blackjack.
Gran Canaria is an Island of discovery through its history of being the crossroads of many cultures and its consistently mild climate. Its location at the southern extremes of the European continent makes it a popular location for holiday visitors who use the myriad of available flights from the colder countries of Europe to enjoy warmer temperatures, particularly during the winter months.

The legacy of the Island warmly welcoming travellers throughout the ages has left it with a wealth of archaeological sites, a mix of architecture and many artistic and cultural traits for the modern traveller to enjoy and which give the Island a variety that is a pleasure to discover in a relatively small area. This history is reflected in the many activities that can be found on the Island today which includes International film and music festivals, exhibitions and museums. The Canary Islands Music Festival held at the beginning of each year is world renowned and particularly special in that it due to the Islands' climate it is able to be held in the European winter.

The Islands' museums range from the painted caves at the Cueva Pintada archaeological site to the Elder technology and science museum and the Abraham Cardenas sculpture exhibition. You can also find houses that were homes of the Islands more famous residents that have been restored and can be visited. Gran Canaria has been officially declared a World Biosphere reserve due its' natural richness and great diversity of environments.

The Islands climate reflects the diversity in the culture. From the hot south of the Island and its majestic beaches whose 60kms of sand make up over 25% of the Islands' coastline and where the skies are clear for most of the year. A short trip into the middle of the Island will find sub tropical valleys and forest and you can even find snow on the tops of the mountains at certain times of the year. However wherever you are on the Island you will have sunny skies and warm temperatures the year round. For those seeking more than just a quiet break the resort of Puerto Rico is easily the most lively with a wide selection of clubs, bars and restaurants to satisfy most tastes.

For sports lovers Gran Canaria is an ideal location. The absence of any extreme temperature variations makes this a favourite destination for top sportsmen and women to train for major events. The sports that typically benefit from the Island's facilities include athletics, cycling and triathlon. Not only Europeans but athletes from the USA also prefer the stable climate during the winter. Gran Canaria welcomes these visitors and provides the infrastructure to make this the ideal destination for the clubman through to the Olympic hopefuls. There is a strong tradition of golf on the Island with a number of courses plus the weather and facilities to play 365 days per year. Gran Canaria also has a number of its own sports that you won't see at any Olympic games; they include stone lifting, stick fighting, plough pulling and Shepherds leaping!

With sea temperatures ranging from a mild 18deg through to 22deg then it is no surprise that watersports feature highly in Gran Canaria. The Island boasts many champions from various disciplines developing their skills in the local waters including the 13 times world windsurfing champion. As well as windsurfing, sailing, both yacht and dinghy sailing and kitesurfing are also popular.

Evidence that Gran Canaria is still welcoming the traveller today is that there are over 25 tourist offices located around the Island to help you enjoy your break. Companies such as Thomas Cook, Thomson and Their multilingual staff has extensive information on accommodation, sights, activities travel etc and are always there to help you.<bio>Discovering Gran Canaria and any of the other Canary Islands is made easier and cheaper by reading Dan Williams' reviews of cheap flights to Gran Canaria and flights to Las Palmas to help you save money and visit this beautiful island.</bio>

The following guide to Madrid I assembled while living and studying in the city. This guide should be useful to first-time visitors to the city, as it gives a brief overview of Madrid's major tourist sites.

Must See Sites

-Puerta del Sol/ Plaza Mayor/ Calle Gran Via:

Puerta del Sol is literally in the center of the city, and this area serves as the hub of tourist activity. There is a main plaza, touristy shops, and plenty of restaurants and bars. From the main plaza you can walk to Plaza Mayor, which is another big plaza surrounded by outdoor cafes and filled with street performers and tourists. Narrow cobblestone streets surround Plaza Mayor, and they are cool to check out. Plaza mayor is probably the most "touristy" place to go in the city and is a good place to start your visit to Madrid.

On the other side of Puerta del Sol are some other newer shopping streets which have been blocked off to traffic. If you walk through these streets, you will come to Gran Via, one of the biggest shopping streets in the city. Gran Via has a good assortment of department stores and chain restaurants, alongside strip clubs and sex shops. Gran Via is the most lively street in the city and is worth checking out.

-Reina Sofia art museum/ Prado art museum:

The Reina Sofia is the more interesting of the two museums in my opinion, as it houses works from Picasso, Dali, and some other wild artists. Unless you are an art fanatic, you can do the entire museum in less than two hours and feel like you have seen everything. The museum is free on Saturdays.

The Prado is the older and more famous of the two museums. It is mostly filled with classical Spanish paintings, but you can also find Rembrandts and Renaissance works in the museum. The Prado is free on Sundays.

These museums are a short walk from each other and it would be easy to do both in one day.

If art is your thing, you can also check out the Thyssen and the Sarollo museum, both of which I've heard are pretty good.

-Parque Retiro:

Retiro is a big park done in the French style, and it is basically the Central Park of Madrid. When the weather is good, the park fills with people, and you can find the young people by the huge statue of a man on a horse. The crowd here is pretty bohemian, and you'll likely find a drum circle around the statue, especially if you come on Sunday afternoon. As long as the weather's good, there is always a big group in this area kicking around the soccer ball, juggling, smoking hash, etc.

-Palacio Real:

Palacio Real used to be the royal palace of Spain, and it is now used only for government functions. The fa=E7ade of the building is impressive and the interior is nice as well. If you've done Versaille before, you can skip the tour of the palace, since they are really similar. Next to Palacio Real is a huge cathedral that you can peek into for free.

-El Rastro Flea Market:

El Rastro is a big flea market at metro stop La Latina. It is best on Sundays. Here you can buy cheap souvenirs and other junk (nothing of any quality). The cafes in this area are pretty nice and a good place to go to escape the crowds of the flea market.

-Barrio Salamanca:

The Salamanca district is the nicest residential and commercial area in the city. Here you'll find upscale restaurants and all the shops you would find on Rodeo Drive. This area is easily accessible by metro stops Velasquez and Serrano. <bio>A.J.
"Romantic Affordable Honeymoon Ideas, that's what we need." This was what my future wife said to me, and all I really wanted was a romantic honeymoon place, but somewhere that was different from the international resorts our friends booked for their honeymoons.

This was what led us indirectly to our choice of Los Roques a tiny cluster of islands off the north coast of Venezuela for one week of our honeymoon.

After taking advice from forums, and reading between the lines on travel websites we opted for The Posada Natura Viva, because it had a strong Italian connection which was what we were advised to look for.

Getting there was interesting, we flew to Caracas, and then using a small local airline we flew into Gran Roque. If that sounds simple it wasn't because we like to travel independently. Normally we use a local agent to tie up the loose ends, and this proved difficult, and thank goodness we did it in plenty of time. We used a company called Explore Partners a Caracas based company, and for a good length of time, I wasn't certain we even had a honeymoon. Eventually we had to fax the relevant page of our passports plus a copy of my credit card to their office, and all was well.

Sometimes romantic affordable honeymoon ideas have other complications, but the effort was worth it. The Posada Natura Viva is right on the beach, and has a real feel of an Italian Mediterranean villa about it. We had a king size double bed, after all we were on our honeymoon!! There was a simple ensuite bathroom with a shower, a ceiling fan, no airconditioning, all perfectly adequate.

The restaurant was on a beautiful patio with lots of tropical foliage, and the breakfasts were good if not fantastic, consisting of fruit juices, coffee, eggs ham and cheese. The bread is fresh baked every day.

Dinner is fish based with Italian overtones, and as we love fish that suited us very well indeed, but could be a problem if you didn't. The bar was also a feature, on a beautiful terrace surrounded by bougainvilleas, with some interesting rum based cocktails being a memory by themselves.

The accommodation suited us fine, but we really came for the unspoilt atmosphere of an island with no motor cars, and the chance to be castaways for the day, with everything we needed except cool beers for our day.

Diving here is spectacular, and we dived at La Guaza which is a group of coral pinnacles about 100 feet down, quite amazing. We also used Oscar Shop near the airport, to book trips, and one of our most amazing memories was the glassy lagoons off Crasqui, an island only a few minutes away, where we swam through thousands of fish.

Also Cayo de Agua which consisted of miles of beautiful beach and lagoons.

It was a totally memorable honeymoon, certainly romantic, not quite as affordable an idea as we had first thought, but Gran Roque and the Posada Natura Viva should not be missed <bio>Dicken Jackson used http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com to help plan his honeymoon, and has now become a contributor </bio>

Each visit to London is more rewarding than the next. This cultural city center is packed with history and art, parks and beauty. You can absorb a lot just by driving through the city streets in a taxi cab, but make sure that on your vacation you visit these ten places on foot before you leave.

1. The British Museum has millions of items and artifacts to peruse. What started as Sir Hans Sloan's collection of 71,000 items in 1753 has blossomed into one of the biggest storehouses of ancient artifacts in the world. Best of all, admission to this venerable museum remains free of charge.

2. Saint Paul's Cathedral is one of Great Britain's most beautiful spiritual centers. Although it is a historic building (rebuilt in 1666 after the Great London Fire), it is still home to modern weddings and funerals. Living members of British royalty and national leaders have held ceremonies there.

3. The Tower of London is a fascinating step back into time. Here, you can be horrified by the dungeons and you can marvel at the Queen's Jewels. Try not to imagine too much of the Tower's deadly history though, or you might have nightmares.

4. The Natural History Museum is a great place to take children, because of its treasure trove of dinosaur bones. Kids and adults alike will love roaming the halls of this museum, checking out its many collections in its gothic hallways.

5. Westminster Abbey is one of London's most famous and beautiful churches, but it is most famous for its dead residents. Take a walking tour of the abbey and hear about all the famous literati who are buried within its walls.

6. The Tate Modern is the best place to see modern art in London. The Tate houses paintings by such 20th century masters as Matisse, Warhol, Bacon, and many more.

7. The London Zoo houses over 12,000 animals within its gates. This is not one of the world's most famous zoos for no reason. There are so many animals, that you cannot see them all in one day. Plan on taking a few trips to absorb all the fauna.

8. The British Airways London Eye is an observation wheel high above the city that allows visitors to London to get a bird's eye view of the landscape below. The Eye is host to millions of visitors a year and is the best way for a tourist to get the lay of the land. Sightseeing will be much more fun once you have seen the whole city from above.

9. The National Gallery is a museum of both ancient and modern masters. You can spend hours roaming through the halls of this 19th century museum. Its location is also ideal =96 you can find the National Gallery in the center of Trafalgar Square.

10. The Madame Tussaud's Experience is one that can't be missed when you travel to London. This is as close as a tourist can get to living history. Historical people and events are recreated in wax and animatronics. Be prepared to be surprised and enthralled by their realistic qualities. <bio>Vince Paxton repeatedly makes reports on ideas associated to Costa Blanca and La Manga. Through his writings like http://www.alicante-spain.com/gran-alacant.html ,he improved his know-how on news similar to Gran Alacant. </bio>

Wild nature, the best cured meats, and St Benedict all combine in Eastern Umbria.

Perugia is Umbria's political capital, but it is the walled town of Norcia, which lays claim to being its culinary capital. In the region's wild and mountainous east, below the famed Appennines, the forests are home to game birds, trout are plentiful in the rivers, and the pork and truffles are world class.

The Norcinerie

Norcia is renowned for its food shops, especially the pork butcher shops (norcinerie), which follow centuries of traditional practices, dating from the Middle Ages, in killing and butchering the pigs. Pork products on sale include ham (prosciutto), bacon (pancetta) and any number of salamis and sausages.

The shop interiors are amazing -- look out for a stuffed boar's head, hunks of hanging prosciutti, shelves of salami, and piles of fragrant cheeses. On the floors are bags of local legumes, including black-eyed peas and white cannelloni beans. If you want the best lentils, ask for le lenticchia de Castelluccio di Norcia.

Any number of these tasty treats can be combined as a snack, when made up on the spot with the panini breads on offer. And since Norcia is a centre for truffles, you can try them in many restaurant dishes, or buy a small bottle of this treat preserved in brine. The delicious truffle sauces can be used as part of a pasta sauce, when combined with anchovy, garlic and olive oil.

Churches and More

Norcia is the birthplace of St. Benedict, who founded the Benedictine order of monks, and the city's great architectural pride is the impressive Gothic church that bears his name. It fronts the town's central piazza of the same name. Due to the region's many earthquakes, the church has only a part of its original exterior façade remaining, but loving restoration has ensured that the cross-shaped building, with its polygonal apsis and stunning ogival portal, retains its beautiful frescoes and paintings that date back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Beneath the church are the reputed ruins of the house where the saint was born. At the 14th century church of St. Augustine, you'll find a fresco of the Madonna and Child. Another building dating from the Renaissance is the Castellina, once a fort, which is now home to the Municipal Diocesan Museum.

Natural and Rural Beauty

Norcia is surrounded by excellent walking tracks through the green Umbrian hills. Start with a walk from the nearby small town of Serravalle, after getting the feel of Italian rural life by wandering the narrow streets of this picturesque village. In spring, the meadows of the Plain of Castelluccio present a mass of colourful flowers in bloom.

At the Parco Nazionale Monti Sibillini, near the village of Visso, the walking track winds through the woods of the Apennine mountains as you ascend through the Valle di Visso, then down into the valley of Preci. Another popular walk leads to one of Europe's highest plateaus, the Piano Grande, with its surrounding mountains, such as the 2400m Monte Vettore. For centuries the fields here have been used by the Castelluccio farmers to grow the special lentils sold in Norcia's speciality food shops.

A visit to eastern Umbria is an experience that won't quickly be forgotten.
As a Caribbean Vacation Destination Los Roques an archipelago of Venezuela has a lot going for it. Los Roques Archipelago is about one hundred miles north of Caracas, and is a beautiful and ecologically important group of islands which was declared a National Park some thirty five years ago.

One of its attractions as a Caribbean Vacation Destination is its relative inaccessibility, it is probably one of the most remote places of the Caribbean Sea because you either have to sail there or get a flight from Caracas or Margarita or Maracaibo, not names that are very familiar to tourists, European ones at any rate.

What makes Los Roques such a wonderful place is the peace and quiet and the relative calmness of the incredibly colored sea. There are masses of lagoons, over fifty small islands, three hundred emerged sand banks and white coral sand, few of them ever occupied. The sky is almost permanently blue, there is very little rain, and is outside the Caribbean hurricane belt.

Added to this is the fact that Los Roques has the third largest coral reef in the world, this is as Christopher Columbus observed on discovering Los Roques in the fifteenth century a "True Paradise on Earth".

As Los Roques is a National park this automatically prohibits building high rise hotels so visitors stay in local guesthouses on Gran Roques where you arrive by air or sea, and is the only place with permanent settlements. It is home to over one thousand two hundred people.

The visitors, and there are around fifty thousand a year, who come to Los Roques for a Caribbean vacation are normally attracted by the stunning beauty of the beaches, and of course to scuba dive and snorkel the coral reef. Sport fishing and windsurfing are other popular activities at Los Roques

The guesthouses, inns and Pousadas on Gran Roques tend to be very picturesque, and are probably a luxuriously refurbished old fisherman house. Lodging usually includes breakfast and dinner, and can range in price for as little as USD50 to USD200 per night per person. Some of the guesthouses also include in the price transfers to nearby islands, lunch, sunbeds, umbrellas and equipment for snorkeling.

You could also stay on a boat, or even camp in specially designated areas, but far and away the most popular option is to stay in a pousada.

Having said the only accommodation is on Gran Roques, you can get to a small cay called Rasqui where there is a small lodge with only two rooms, and is really a private island. You should also visit Water Cay known as Cayo de Agua, which is totally deserted and absolutely beautiful.

Why not visit Dos Mesquises where the Los Roques Scientific Foundation has a program involving adopting a turtle, and is well worth visiting.

Could you find a better Caribbean Vacation destination than Los Roques Venezuela, where there are no hurricanes, miles and miles of white sand beaches, countless uninhabited islands and coral reefs teeming with multicolored undersea life. There's simply nowhere like it in the Caribbean, but go now whilst it is still a secret.

For more information about Caribbean Vacation Destinations Go To http://www.caribbean-vacationspots.com/pages/Site-Map.html <bio>Gordon Steven writes exclusively for http://www.caribbean-vacationspots.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and has visited personally many of the places he reports on, and has done extensive research on the others </bio>

Some of the shows you will find listed here, the cars in the shows were even known to receive their own fan mail. The weekly hero of the action packed T.V. show was almost assuredly driving a fast and expensive sports car. Most people tend to think they used the same car in every episode but usually there was a whole team of identical cars that followed the stars through the series.

See how many of the following cars you can remember from the seventies:

1. Gran Torino on Starsky and Hutch.

This was everyone's favorite Muscle Car it seemed, at least the most recognizable. The paint job (red with that big, white stripe) and the style prompted Ford to add it to their line. Gran Torino enthusiasts still get together to show off their rides to this day!

2. Do you remember Dan Tanna and his 1957 Thunderbird from Vegas?

In this program Robert Urich played a cop in Las Vegas named Dan Tanna who just loved cruising around the strip in his T-Bird. It was a bright and shiny red and was actually two identical cars used that they switched back and forth when taping the show. The character started out with a corvette but ended up with his signature T-Bird instead

3. Who can forget that bumbling detective Columbo and his beat up, old Peugeot? Well it can be categorized as a sports car technically, but it sure didn't look like one or act like one. But Columbo and his Peugeot was a match made in heaven with their unkempt appearance. Some folks in Ohio ended up with the car after the show was cancelled but they revived it for the Columbo movie in the 80's.

4. The golden Firebird Espirit of Detective Rockford is another classic. James Garner played Detective Rockford and always seemed to be having financial troubles but he could always afford to drive around in his signature Firebird.

5. 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado from Mannix. Another one of those great detective shows. Joe Mannix was played by actor Mike Connors and it was a very customized vehicle indeed and one that most people remember. Mannix had secret compartments all over the Toronado and it was a little more high tech then many cars of its era. In later episodes Mannix had an array of cars at his disposal but the 1966 Toronado seem to make the most impact.

Each one of these cars is memorialized by film. If you asked anyone about the 70's famous cars undoubtedly they would mention one or more of these cars. Of course there were a lot of others but these five seem to be the most likely to come up in a conversation about the era. After all they certainly did seem to steal the show right out from under the human stars. <bio>Jackson Porter is a staff writer at http://www.automobileenthusiast.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.environmental-central.com. </bio>

Choosing which of the Canary Islands to visit is a real dilemma for the winter break tourist. All of the main seven islands, that are located just off the north African coastline, share similar climates, but the major differences lie in the way each of these islands has grown up and the level of urban development progression in each. Some of the resorts on these islands have their roots back in the 1950's and so exhibit some dated and, for some, unattractive architecture while the resorts that have only recently gained popularity boast modern developments that are more pleasing on the eye.

For the winter traveller who is looking for more than just a beach holiday (and the islands can certainly provide that) there are a host of other attractions from 15th century Spanish settlements, a number of spectacular national parks and a wide choice of art and culture to satisfy a range of tastes. On Lanzarote its most famous resident, artist Cesar Manrique, has left his impression all over the island with his distinctive style of sculpture, architecture and painting. The artist was sadly killed in a car accident on the island of Lanzarote in 1992 but has left his mark following his enthusiastic pursuit of sympathetic planning regulations resulting in a lack of high rise development on the island. His work reflects an acceptable form of modern functional design and includes the spectacular viewpoint at Mirador del Rio and the amazing Jameos del Agua, a cave system transformed by Manrique into an auditorium and breathtaking swimming pool and gardens. The excellent acoustic properties of the auditorium see it hosting several events including shows, concerts and regular discos.

Falling under the same administration as Lanzarote, Gran Canaria is one of the larger islands in the group and accordingly has a more established urban buzz and city feel. That's not to say it is not attractive as a resort for many visitors. A cheap flight to Gran Canaria in the off-peak season should be affordable enough to make it a suitable destination for a weekend city break. It has a varied selection of all the elements of city life including culture, restaurants, bars and clubs. The city also has a very important marina development given its location and it plays host to frequent regattas.

Gran Canaria has developed in popularity largely because of its amazingly mild climate. The temperature barely leaves the 20-30 degrees centigrade range making it pleasantly warm but never too hot. The trade winds bring pleasant breezes to create a comfortable environment for sightseers and sportspeople alike. In fact the sport of windsurfing has seen Gran Canaria establish itself as one of the world's most favoured destinations for top surfers. There a re plenty of sheltered location for newcomers to the sport but the more experienced are likely to head for Pozo Isquierdo where powerful winds provide all the thrills and challenges the best in the sport demand.

For British holidaymakers, the island of Tenerife has been a favourite ever since the 1950's. It's the largest of the Canaries and has seen its fair share of development which is still ongoing. The resorts being built now offer some of the highest quality amenities you will find anywhere in the island group. There are waterparks and golf courses, diving and sail bases. The island is now also home to many Brits who have chosen to live there permanently. Again the climate and abundance of frequent flights to several UK airports make it an easy choice compared to other ex-pat destinations like southern Spain which don't boast the same constant mild weather.

For the traveller who favours more a natural attraction rather then the bustle of establish tourist traps, the less well-known island of La Gomera provides an refreshing alternative as it is home to one of the best preserved laurisilva forests or humid sub-tropical laurel forests. The evergreen hardwood trees grow to height of up to 40m and harbor a wealth of endemic plant and animal species. Many forests of this type in the world have been devastated by logging activities so La Gomera provides one of the most accessible locations to experience these rare natural features.

So a flight to the Canaries can be a gateway to a mild winter break, a trip to visit friends and relatives or the start to a trip full of exciting natural and cultural experiences.<bio>The Canary Islands offer many choices and articles by Dan Williams cover everything including flights to Lanzarote and flights to Tenerife to help holidaymakers find economic travel arrangements.</bio>

Here you will walk among the ancient Umbrian walls, the "cavea" of the Roman theatre, the Ducal Palace that was built by the Dukes of Longobard, the arch of Cruso Minore, and the Palazzo della Signoria built in 1300.

The most popular attraction in Spoleto is the Cathedral that was built on the site of an ancient church in 1067. The Cathedral is one of most magnificent sights to see with its own unique Romanic style, rose windows, and awesome mosaic.

If castles create wonderful fantasies for you then you must visit the Castle of Albornoz. During it's time the highest tower was home to the nephew of the Cardinal Albornoz had many distinguished guests including princes and popes. The castle lost power in 1500 and in 1800 was a barracks used by the military. Today, restoration is under way to restore this magnificent castle to its rightful place in beauty and prestige.

The list of things to see while in Spoleto include the Cathedral, St. Gregorio Maggiore Church, Misericordia Church, Sant'Eufemia Church, S. The major events include the Patron Saint Ponziano on January 14, the Week of Studies of the early Middle Ages in April, and organ concerts in various churches during May through June, Festival of the Two Worlds, which is held in June and July, and Avant-garde Opera during September.

While you are enjoying all the sights and attractions of Spoleto you may find that you have worked up quite an appetite, now is the time to sit, relax and partake of some of the delectable meals that restaurants in Spoleto has to offer.
As summer changes to autumn, trees start to shed their leaves and daytime temperatures drop slightly, people fortunate enough to afford the time and cost turn their thoughts to a winter break. The winter break has long been popular with residents of the colder European countries who are within a short flight to the resorts in southern Europe that remain relatively mild during the winter months. The fact that you can fly from almost anywhere in Europe to the popular winter break resorts within 3 or 4 hours makes them very accessible.

Some of the most popular destinations are those of the Canary Islands which actually lie much closer to the North African coastline (less than 80 miles) than they do to the nearest European country of Spain. Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventrua and Lanzarote are the largest four of the islands and attract the most tourist trade.

Typical winter temperatures rarely drop below 20 degrees in Lanzarote, the warmest of the islands, compared to average winter temperatures of below 10 degrees in the UK for the coldest six months of the year. So you see why the island is attractive to those looking for some warmer weather to see them through to springtime.

Because Lanzarote has long been a destination for winter travellers the island is well set up to cater for the type of tourist that time of year attracts. The islanders themselves are very laid back which suits the relaxed environment the travellers are looking for.

The landscape of the island is very unusual due to its volcanic underpinnings and it is a relatively young landscape having been created by erupting volcanoes only 250 years ago. But don't worry because the volcanoes have been quiet ever since. There is limited vegetation and very few trees to interrupt the moonscape-like scenery. In the south of the island the volcanic vistas give way to golden sandy beaches, just the pace to while away a mild December day. In fact there are almost one hundred beaches on the island, so sun worshippers will be spoilt for choice and have plenty of space during the quieter months.

The size of the island, only 12 miles coast to coast east to west and less than 40 miles between the north and south coasts, makes all resorts just a short drive from the airport in Arrecife. This compact size also make the island an ideal touring location for tourists interested in leaving their base for day trips.

There are differing views about the vibrant resort of Playa Blanca, named after its white sandy beach. Some say the town has a unique charm, retaining its traditional village feel which makes its an ideal destination for families and couple seeking a quieter break. Others however criticise the resort for being overdeveloped in recent years due to the flourishing property market.

For the past 25 years Lanzarote has been home to the famous sports resort Club La Santa. The venue provides a centre for both professional and amateur sportsmen and women seeking warmer climates to train in. The resort mixes 400 high quality holiday apartments with some of the best sports facilities in Europe, including a six lane athletics track, Olympic 50m 8 lane swimming pool and ten tennis courts. The resort also hosts its own multi-sport events including the famous Lanzarote Ironman triathlon and the International Club La Santa Duathlon.

Although the island has only one airport, it has enough capacity to cater for a range of daily flights from many of the major European airports and from the UK you can depart from most airports including Manchester, Gatwick, Glasgow, Newcastle and Cardiff.

The airlines providing these flights include the major scheduled operators like British Airways as well as the charter airlines like FlyThomasCook, Monarch and ThomsonFly.

Booking well in advance should make a return trip available for less than 200 pounds sterling but leaving bookings until the last minute could easily see prices reach twice that level.<bio>Let Dan Williams' expertise guide you to a great winter break. Flights to Gran Canaria and flights to Tenerife are provided by operators such as FlyThomasCook and Thomson.</bio>

Imagine the scene, a man and a woman stranded on a desert island with the sun beating down, and you did it on purpose!!

Such was the joy of a vacation to a place called Los Roques Venezuela. It is almost like a Pacific atoll, except it is at the bottom end of the Caribbean Sea, some 80 miles north of Caracas, and easily reached by plane, where you land on Gran Roque, which is where we stayed in a Posada.

For the uninitiated a Posada is a converted house or cottage, which takes paying guests in varying degrees of luxury at a corresponding price.

My wife and I chose the Posada Natura Viva, a very Italian Mediterranean Posada, right next to the beach. We chose it because of recommendation that we pick an Italian owned Posada as opposed to a locally owned one.

I have however diverted from the purpose of this account which is of course a Man and Woman stranded on a Desert Island with the sun beating down on us. In truth it was arranged by the aforementioned Posada Natura Viva, and so far as the sun beating down, they also supplied us with beach umbrellas, table and chairs, gazebos and beach towels.

Just close your eyes, and imagine a tiny spit of an island no more than 50 paces wide, one hundred paces long, in fact smaller than my garden at home. Imagine warm clear turquoise water, where you could sit in it like it was a bath, and drink a cool beer, feeling it was your own private island

I suspect they are some of the most important things to take if you are to be stranded on a desert island, even if was only for a day!! I should add the Posada also supplied a packed lunch, thermos with cool drinks, even if we did have to bring our own beers!!

Anyway this I suspect is what the Caribbean was like before us tourists arrived in our thousands.

It was fortunate we remembered our sunblock and high factor sun creams because apart from the shade that was supplied for us, there is none at all.

This has to be one of the most beautiful places on this earth, in fact it's almost like a dream, why not go and see it for yourself, and become the Man and Woman stranded on a Desert Island for a day!! <bio>Dicken Jackson just wanted to write about a place he had visited, after being inspired by http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com, where he found lots of articles about vacation destinations he knew nothing about before </bio>

There was one more reason this year to visit Florence in the month of February. The evening of 18th, in fact, citizens and foreigners were able to attend to a unique event: the Light display of the project of Michelangelo on the facade of the church of San Lorenzo.

It was a tribute to Electress Palatine, the last of the Medici family, that in his testament clearly expressed the desire that the Church was completed. Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici was the last great Princess of Tuscany, the only daughter born from the marriage between the Grand Duke Cosimo III and Margu=E9rite-Louise d'Orl=E9ans.

The Pact of family saved the Medici's art collection

Anna Maria Luisa (the Electress Palatine), after the death of his brother, travelled the Gran Duchy to the government of the Lorena family, and dedicated all the last part of her life to prevent the cultural heritage of her family and therefore of Florence from being completely dispersed.

With the Convention between Francesco Stefano di Lorena and Anna Maria Luisa (the "Pact of Family"), signed in 1737, the Medici's art collections were transferred to the new Grand Duke, but with the condition that they would remain tied "forever" to the city of Florence and to the state of Tuscany.

All the initiatives of the town of Florence on 18 February

The Municipality of Florence has decided to dedicate to Anna Maria Luisa the 18th February, the day of her death.
