Of course we all want to take care of our beloved pets but is it possible that parasites are endangering their lives? Although dogs and cats are generally considered to be rather disease free, they are both susceptible to parasites such as hook worms. Otherwise known as Dipylidium Caninum, the "hook worm" is a particularly nasty parasite that can and will shorten the life of your pet unless properly treated.

Parasites like the hook worm actually have teeth that they use to attach to the small intestine of your dog or cat (actually, these parasites are also a danger to humans too!). Now these are rather simple parasites with three basic body parts: the head, neck, and tail. Every hook worm has only one head and neck, but they may have several tail segments.

The tail segment is very important to parasites like the hook worm because this is how they breed. Every tail section has the reproductive organs for the hook worm. Sections of tail break off all the time and are passed with other solid waste (in the animal's feces). Fleas, who lay their eggs in feces, eat the tail segments and are thus infected with hook worm.

The parasites are passed on to the animal when the flea bites it. It is also possible for animals to become infested with these parasites by eating the fleas themselves. Therefore, the best prevention for hook worms is to rid your home and yard of fleas. Then, make sure the animal is free of the parasites by taking it to your veterinarian. If infected, the animal will be orally given a mild poison that will cleanse its system of the hook worms.

Hook worms may not seem like very dangerous parasites but their effect upon animals is cumulative. After prolonged periods of infestation, animals will appear emaciated as they will have been deprived of essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients by the parasites clinging to their intestinal walls. In time, the immune system will weaken and the animal will become prone to disease. If left untreated, hook worms are indeed parasites that can and will kill your pets.

It is usually possible to determine if your animal has hook worms by inspecting its stool for the parasites. Plus, if the stool is often too wet or runny, it is likely your pet has hook worms. Pets suspected of having the parasites need to be taken to the vet immediately as the risk of spreading hook worms to humans is very real. After the animal has been rid of the worms, be sure to destroy any flea populations in the area or the risk of re-infection is very high. <bio>Parasites Info is an information site that contains links, a directory and other Parasites Information.
Although many people can people suffer infrequently with diarrhea or the sudden urgent need to rush to the bathroom after eating, this does not necessarily indicate a person has IBS. IBS, as well the symptoms mentioned may include abdominal pain, fatigue and tiredness, abnormal bowel habits such as constipation and diarrhea, bloating, gas or a mixture of these symptoms. One of the questions people ask about IBS is could it be caused by a virus, or is their any link between IBS and parasites?

All over the world, people are infected with parasites, they are not just a phenomenon in the developing counties, they are also prevalent in many industrialized nations like the United States. Some medical researches have suggested that people can live shorter lives of up to 3-4 years due to these parasites.

Some of the conditions believed to be caused by a parasite infection include irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, fatigue, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, flatulence, bloating, constipation, skin problems, itching, rashes, anorexia, and other rare diseases.

Parasites can affect the intestines, liver, circulatory system, brain, skin and other organs of the body. There are many reasons for parasite growth in the body. Deficiency of vitamins and minerals in the diet can increase the chances of parasitic infection, as generally they are kept in check by our immune response, or friendly bacteria.

A diet with high carbohydrate and alkaline contents and low proteins can create an environment that is beneficial to a parasitic infection. This type of diet can also trigger some IBS symptoms.

Parasites, apart from other factors, are considered as one of the main potential causes of irritable bowel syndrome, which affects the large intestine and has become a common health disorder in many countries.

Diagnosing the disease in a patient involves going through their medical history, performing a full physical examination, and obtaining lab test reports to test for infection.

The history and physical examination generally dictate the lab tests that should be taken. However, testing for parasites via stool samples is not a very reliable solution, unless the patient has acute parasite infection. The standard medical tests have limited capability in determining parasite infection. Only about five percent of the known varieties of parasites can be tested with laboratory testing. Moreover, these tests are not very accurate.

If you are also suffering from irritable bowel syndrome symptoms and believe that these symptoms are due to the parasitic infection, you have a number of options, including changing your diet to create an environment that promotes good intestinal health, and suppress the bacteria.

For killing the parasites there are effective medication, and herbal cleansing products, natural foods, and essential oils that have been shown to be effective. A nutritional detox and rejuvenation program might be helpful in balancing and restoring the immune system and getting rid of parasites.

Continue reading to find out more about the link between IBS and parasites, and how to sign up for our free newsletter covering the latest information to relieve IBS. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about IBS and Parasites at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

Saltwater aquarium pests and parasites might have an adverse effect on the health of your marine tank. Bacterial diseases can cause ill-health in your fish and invertebrates. Bacterial disease can also kill the fish in your tank. To get rid of the problem you might have to start all over again from scratch. This is not only very upsetting but also very expensive.

So it makes sense to be on the lookout for saltwater aquarium pests and parasites and to treat your fish at the first sign of illness. Marine fish usually fall prey to gram-negative bacteria. These include Pseudomonas, Vibrio and Myxobacteria. It is not always easy to spot saltwater aquarium pests and parasites in marine fish. Often you may not know that there is something wrong until your fish become seriously ill.

You can help prevent saltwater aquarium pests and parasites by making sure that conditions in your tank don't encourage their growth. To do this you need to understand how and why saltwater aquarium pests and parasites occur in marine fish in the first place.

Bacterial disease is caused by a number of things, sometimes in combination. Such disease can be topical (external) -- for example fin and tail rot and ulcers or systemic (affecting the body internally) or it might be a combination of both. Saltwater aquarium pests and parasites are more likely to affect fish that are in poor condition. The healthier your fish are the more resistance they will have to saltwater aquarium pests and parasites.

However fish that are weak, sick or stressed by environmental conditions in the tank are easily infected by saltwater aquarium pests and parasites. Bacterial diseases may gain entry into the body through the pores along the lateral line. The gills are another site of entry into the body of a fish.

So what environmental conditions make it more likely for saltwater aquarium pests and parasites to cause illness in your tank? The leading cause of bacterial attack is poor environmental conditions in the tank. If conditions are allowed to deteriorate the health of your fish is impacted and this might make them more susceptible to diseases.

Saltwater aquarium pests and parasites will soon bloom and over-run the tank. If the water is white and cloudy and the fish have sores on their body, conditions in the tank are very poor and must be corrected.

Your fish may also be affected by saltwater aquarium pests and parasites if they have other infections. So treating them is crucial. If your fish are not fed properly they might not have built up a good resistance to infection. Any injuries that your fish have might allow bacteria to take hold. Fish that are stressed and harassed are also more likely to become ill.

Older, weaker fish are at increased risk of contracting a bacterial infection as are any fish that come from water that has been contaminated (for example tap water!). If a fish eats the flesh of a sick fish it may also become ill with the same disease. So how do you know if your fish are infected with saltwater aquarium pests and parasites? What should you look for?

If your fish are afflicted with saltwater aquarium pests and parasites they might show one or more of the following symptoms:

- Red frayed fins or fins that show red streaks. - The fins might disintegrate (in fin and tail rot). - Red areas around the lateral line (streaks or blotches). - Open sores on the sides of the body and near the fins. - Bloody scales at the fin base. - Fast breathing. - A grey film may cover the eyes. - The fish may appear listless or lethargic. - They may lose their appetite. - The stomach may be swollen or bloated from saltwater aquarium pests and parasites that cause bladder infections, for example.

Bacteria are not the only saltwater aquarium pests and parasites that might affect your fish. Black Spot disease is a common marine illness caused by a parasitic turbellarian flatworm in the genus Paravortex. It makes its home at the bottom of the tank after which it attached to a host fish for about six days then falls off into the substrate again. It is common in Yellow tangs and Angelfishes.

If you notice tiny black dots on the body of your fish and they seem to be scratching against objects or have red skin and are lethargic they might have black spot disease. It is less common than some other saltwater aquarium pests and parasites (white ich for example) but should still be looked for.

If any of your fish contract the diseases mentioned above or other illnesses, they may not die immediately. But in general if saltwater aquarium pests and parasites are not treated your fish will die in a one to two week period. There are viral strains that can kill fish within a day or two. Even if you don't know what the disease is you need to take steps immediately to isolate the ill fish.

Fish that are infected with saltwater aquarium pests and parasites should be placed into a quarantine tank. This is because bacterial infections will spread to healthy fish very quickly if sick fish are allowed to interact with them. Once the illness affects the internal organs the fish will stop eating, breathe rapidly, and lie on the bottom of the tank where it may be eaten by other fish or start to decay releasing bacteria into the water.

To protect your fish from saltwater aquarium pests and parasites diagnose and treat your fish with the appropriate antibiotics. Ask your aquarist for advice if necessary. Only place your fish back into the tank once they are completely healthy. This will ensure that your tank stays pest free. The most important way to guard against diseases is to make sure that your fish are as healthy as possible and you can do this by making sure that conditions in your tank are at optimum levels. <bio>Finally, All The Information You Will Ever Need To Begin A Wonderful Love Affair With Fly Fishing!
Horrible parasites may well be the reason that you cannot lose weight now matter what you try.

You may have found that no matter what type of diet you have tried -- whether it was reducing calories, increasing or reducing carbohydrates, fat or protein intakes, exercising till your heart drops out that no matter what you cannot lose the extra pounds and weight.

According to the WHO -- the World Health Organization, 3.5 billion -- yes that is right billions not millions of people throughout the world suffer from types of parasitic infestations and infections. You would think because you live in the clean modern US of A that you are immune and safe from these problems. Not so. Not all of these people of the 3.5 billion. Since the world population is estimated at 6.5 billion and since 3.5 billions are thought to be infected might it not happen to you?

Parasitic infestations may be severe or mild and can be life threatening, they may be apparently symptom less and go on for years. You may never even know that you are infected by parasites unless it becomes a problems that is apparent -- such as poor absorption of critical vitamins leading to anemia or weight loss that is found to be the result of a large tapeworm or worms.

However in your case the direct cause of that weight gain that seems to be permanent and will never go away no matter what you do may well be those so called hidden insidious parasites.

Believe it or not parasites are a hidden major source of weight gain. Fish or meat that is raw, rare or cooked in a microwave oven is not exposed to the high heat necessary to kill those evil weight causing parasites like worms and protozoa and their offspring. Once in the gut these hardy creatures absorb the nutrients necessary to keep blood sugar levels balanced and energy levels for you high. As a result you may have sugar cravings in addition to chronic fatigue and even depression. Further since the body's food intake feedback control system has been short-circuited biochemical signals that are normally correct are no erroneously reporting to your body and brain that you are in hunger further causing you to mistakenly overeat.

In essence the parasites are tricking your body into having you eat more so that they can be well fed and reproduce. So crafty. And at your expense in terms of calorie intake and weight gain.

What can be done? The first step is awareness and prevention. Choose your meals and preparation types well. Have your food especially meats well cooked in a proper hot oven. It may be hard for you though if it is your preference to miss that rare steak.

Secondly be very careful when you are on vacation especially to exotic climes including third world countries where sanitation and proper hygiene may not be the norm. Remember that seemingly innocent things like ice to cool a drink may be suspect. Lastly be careful of water born parasites. If in doubt boil the water over a stove or in a kettle or coffee pot. And as well be careful if you swim away from chlorinated swimming pools.

Lastly if you are concerned that hidden parasites may well be the cause of you weight gain visit your health practitioner so that the appropriate tests and measures be done. <bio>Margaret S.
If you have recently added a cute little kitten to your household, you certainly want to make sure it leads a healthy and happy life. As such, there are several things you should watch out for in order to make certain your kitten doesn't become ill. Namely, there are several different parasites that can make your kitten ill. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to prevent the parasites from causing harm to your kitten.

Ticks

Ticks can attach themselves to your kitten and cause infection while sucking away its blood. There are several oral and topical medications, however, that you can use to help prevent tick infestations. If you do find a tick on your kitten, however, you can remove it with a special tick removal instrument or tweezers. Just be certain to remove the tick carefully so you remove its entire body and head. In addition, you should either burn the tick, rip it in half, or dump it in a bottle of alcohol in order to make certain it is dead.

Fleas

It is important to take steps to prevent fleas rather than trying to get rid of them once they have established themselves on your pet and in your home. In fact, once they have infested your home, you may need to call in a professional to get rid of them. By using oral and topical medications, however, you can minimize fleas and prevent them from becoming a problem. When selecting flea medication, be certain to select a product that is safe for a kitten.

Heartworms

Heartworm can be transmitted to your kitten through mosquitoes, which means your kitten is at a greater risk of becoming infected during the warmer months. By giving your kitten preventative medication each year, however, you can reduce its chances of becoming infected.

Intestinal Parasites

There are a number of different intestinal parasites that can infect your kitten. These include:

• Coccidia
• Giardia
• Hookworms
• Roundworms

It is generally necessary to deworm kittens, as many are born with roundworms. After the initial deworming, it may be necessary to deworm the kitten on a regular basis. By treating your kitten early, you can reduce the chances of your kitten becoming seriously ill.

Prevention Through Vaccinations and Nutrition

In addition to using oral and topical medications to prevent parasites, it is also a good idea to get your kitten vaccinated. There are several vaccinations available to help prevent parasites as well as other illnesses that commonly affect kittens, including feline leukemia, gastrointestinal viruses, rabies and respiratory infections. These vaccinations generally need to be started when the kitten is six to eight weeks old and then given every three to four weeks until the kitten is sixteen years old.

Proper nutrition can also help to prevent illness and is particularly important for kittens. If your kitten does not receive the proper nutrition, it may not grow properly and can experience nutritional illnesses and developmental problems - all of which can be prevented with proper diet.<bio>CS Swarens is the president of Find a Pet Online. 800 998-7065 For additional information on dogs, cats, birds, horses, and exotic pets visit the internet's pet resource including pet classifieds at http://www.findapetonline.com. The whole house water heater is placed on the main water line that enters your home and its purpose is to remove the rust particles and sediment from all the water that comes into your home.

There are four categories of water contaminants which are taste and odor causing contaminants, lead, bacteria/parasites, and rust and sediment. If you are concerned about the water that comes into your house you can have an independent laboratory test it for you before you buy a whole house water filter. The whole house filtration system that your house needs depends on the quality of you water supply. In looking into what water filters to use you need to identify the quality of your water supply.

If the water coming into your house tastes or smells bad you can improve upon your water by purchasing a whole house water filter. This could be a result of municipal water that often smells of chlorine. A filter can treat the conditions of water that smells or tastes bad by using Granular Activated Carbon, a substance that absorbs contaminants to the water that would make the water both taste and smell bad.

Having rust and sediment in your water supply is one reason to get a whole house water filter. Particles can be noticed in your water and by using a filter the particles can be filtered out. If you notice anything floating in your water in your home you should purchase the right whole house water filter to remove the particles.

If your water smells or tastes bad then you might have parasites or bacteria in your water. But sometimes parasites and bacteria do not smell or taste but by using a water filter you can be sure that the will be filtered out. Parasites and bacteria can cause illness and can be hazards to those who do not have a strong immune system such as the elderly and the young.

If your home was built before 1986 you may have lead in your water system. If you are concerned about this you really should have an independent laboratory perform a test on you water supply. A test can be a good idea before purchasing a water filter because if you know what specific problem you are having with your water you can pick the filtration system that is right for you. <bio>http://www.tapmarine.com gives advice on water filters, http://www.tapmarine.com/articles/index.html and http://www.tapmarine.com/water-purifiers/index.html </bio>

Fleas are one of the more disgusting and horrible creatures on the planet. They are parasites which are creatures which live off the body of another creature. Parasites can cause much damange to their "host" including passing diseases to them.

Most people who have cats have had to deal with cat fleas. The flea that commonly "lives on" cats (and dogs too actually) is called the Cat flea. Pretty descriptive name right? It's scientific name is Ctenocephalides felis but if you don't mind I'll just refer to them as cat fleas! Want more obvious information about the cat flea? Well here you go, the Cat flea is one of the most common fleas in the world!

The cat flea's main "host" is the house cat. The cat flea is also the most common flea that lives on dogs. While these fleas can certainly bite humans and even infest them they cannot be sustained by humans. In other words if your cat goes so will your cat fleas! But of course you want to keep your cat! You just want to get rid of those nasty cat fleas.

Want to know something gross about cat fleas? Well they feed their children through fecal matter. Do you know what their fecal matter is made out of for the most part? The dried blood that used to flow through the veins of your beautiful cat! Ah, cat fleas are very despicable creatures.

You may be saying to yourself you already know that cat fleas are disgusting you want to get rid of them! Well yes, understood.

The easiest way to treat cat fleas is by using Frontline for cats. Frontline is safe for kittens over 8 weeks of age and only has to be used once a month. In fact it shouldn't be used any more often than that. <bio>I'm a contributer to http://www.mycatwearsclothes.com the ultimate cat website! </bio>

Okay, so here is one of the topics of cat care that no one likes to talk about, but still needs to be covered, internal parasites. There are many different types of internal parasites that could potentially cause medical problems in your cat, some of the more common being hookworms, roundworms, coccidiosis, toxoplasmosis, and tape worms.

Even if you have had your cat wormed, she could still get roundworms or hookworms. What is even worse, your cat can pass these parasites on to her kittens. These nasty little bugs can cause diarrhea or other types of symptoms in a kitten, but most of the time they leave no trace that a kitten is infested. If you have children in the home, these little kittens can pass these worms onto them, which is one reason why it is so important to have new kittens seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Your vet will likely send you home with a prescription worm medication for the mother cat and the kittens, just in case. Laboratory tests are not one hundred percent accurate in detecting this type of parasite, particularly in young kittens, so it is better to treat them all, just to be on the safe side.

Another silent internal parasite that often preys on tiny kittens is coccidian, which like to party in the kittens intestinal lining, often causing no noticeable symptoms at all, and luckily, no harm to the kitten or anyone else in the family. In some cases, your kitten may have diarrhea, but usually the vet will not prescribe any medication, and will let nature handle the problem.

Just about every woman who has even been pregnant before knows or has heard about cats and toxoplasmosis, as it can be extremely dangerous for anyone who comes into contact with infected litter, particularly a pregnant woman. Your cat can suffer from this deadly parasite at any age, and since it can also be passed to humans, it is extremely important that any pregnant woman avoid changing a litter box or coming in contact with cat litter boxes. These organisms can cause severe birth defects and other problems for an unborn child.

If at all possible, a pregnant woman who owns a house cat should have someone else empty and clean the cat litter box for her. If this is not possible, then extra care must be taken when the litter box must be changed and cleaned. Using disposable gloves to avoid skin contact with contaminated particles along with a dust mask to protect against inhaling airborne contaminants may reduce the risk; however it is well advised that a pregnant woman never change a litter box. Having your cat stay with a family member until after the baby is born is another way to help protect the unborn child.

Cats are exposed to toxoplasmosis when they eat any type of raw meat, whether it is from a rodent they have caught or from raw butcher scraps. These raw scraps could be from any type of meat, so it is best to avoid all table scraps for your kitty.

Your cat should be seen regularly by a veterinarian for health checkups. It should be noted however that you are the first line of defense for your beloved cat, and by reporting any changes in your cat's behavior, you may catch an infestation before it becomes life threatening for your kitty. <bio>Visit http://natureshealthypet.com/category/parasite-control/ and http://www.bestpetsupplyresource.com for more information about getting rid of intestinal parasites </bio>

So, what has made colon cleansing so popular? Is it because we hear of so many celebrities going through the procedure? Perhaps its because as a society we are taking a more active role in preventing medical conditions, or is it the many benefits of a colon cleanse that is leading an increasing number of people to experience them?

There are multiple benefits of following a proper colon-cleansing program, and although many of them can be achieved in most people by long term changes in diet, a person can achieve them more rapidly by adopting a structured colon-cleansing program.

The benefits of a colon cleanse include:

Better Digestion Efficiency =96 because the colon is not clogged up, there is improved transit time for the foods you have eaten. Also, the digestive system can fully absorb the nutrients and water from the food ingested.

Improved Energy and Stamina =96 because our body is not wasting energy in fighting potential bacterium, parasites and eliminating toxins, the energy can be used by our body for other activities such as sports.

Clear Mind =96 headaches caused by the toxins released from the colon can be alleviated, so we can better concentrate on the tasks at hand.

Better complexion and skin condition =96 the elimination of toxins allows our skin to become healthier. Also, acne can be reduced.

Better overall health =96 with the elimination of any build up of waste, we are less prone to illnesses and disease and we will have a lighter feeling in our colon as well.

Helps relieve constipation - constipation is a condition that can be very annoying and painful. Knowing that you won't have any problems with constipation anymore would be a great reason to start a colon cleansing program.

Removing parasites from your body - without parasites, your body is able to get the full potential from food eaten, and this can also lead to a reduction in the amount of toxins released by parasites. So, the nutrients we give to our body no longer have to be shared with parasites leaving us feeling much better and full of energy.

Potentially protection from other medical conditions - colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in America. One of the mains contributing factors in colon cancer is a diet that is rich in high fat foods. Cleaning the colon can remove the waste residue from the colon and help improve colon functionality and health.

Continue reading to find out how you can sign up for the free colon-cleansing newsletter, and learn natural methods to detox your body.

These benefits however will only be short lived if a person goes back to the lifestyle that caused the problems in the first case.

So, it is important to realise that there are a number of important changes to diet and lifestyle that should be adopted to maintain benefits of a colon cleanse. <bio>Sign up for Maggie Simmons' free Colon Cleanse newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about benefits of a colon cleanse at http://www.colon-cleanse-for-health.com/?source=is </bio>

The worms and other intestinal parasites which infest human beings are more common in tropical and subtropical areas. Most of these worms and parasites gain entry into the body either through the mouth or through the skin of the feet. Children are more prone to infection from these worms than adults.

The modern medical system prescribes drugs to kill the parasites. They may give temporary relief, but they are more likely to harm the digestive process and create other complications. Nature cure methods, on the other hand, aim at strengthening the intestine so as to purge the parasites.

The treatment for intestinal worms should begin with diet. The child-patient should be kept on exclusive diet of fresh fruits for two days or so. If possible, a small warm-water enema, mixed with the juice of half a fresh lime, may be administered daily during this period to cleanse the bowels. This would help expel mucus and threadworms from the intestine. Bed clothes of the patient must be exposed to sun everyday and he should stay in a well-ventilated room.

After spending two or three days on exclusive fresh fruit diet, the child may be allowed to take raw and boiled vegetables in addition to fruits. This diet may be continued for two or three days, after which he may be allowed to have porridge, or gruel. Thereafter, he may gradually embark upon a well-balanced light diet consisting mainly of fruits, vegetables, milk and wholemeal bread. The diet should exclude fatty foods such as butter, cream, and oil, refined foods and all flesh foods. This diet should be continued till the parasites are completely eliminated. Mud packs and cold compresses applied to lower part of the abdomen will help in the initial stages of the treatment.

Several home remedies have been found beneficial in the treatment of intestinal worms. Of these, the use of coconut is most effective. It is an ancient remedy for expelling all kinds of intestinal worms. A teaspoon of the freshly-ground coconut should be taken at breakfast. This should be allowed by a dose of 15 to 30 ml. of castor oil mixed in 125 to 175 ml. of lukewarm milk after three hours. The process may be repeated till the cure is complete.

Garlic has been used for expelling intestinal worms from ancient times. The juice of one or two garlic cloves, mixed in half a cup of fruit or vegetable juice, can be given. It will kill the parasites without harming the patient.

The carrot is valuable in the elimination of threadworms in children as it is offensive to all parasites. A small cup of grated carrot taken every morning, with no other food added to the meal, can clear these worms quickly.

The digestive enzyme papaia in the milky juice of the unripe papaya is a powerful anthelmintic for destroying roundworms. A teaspoon of fresh papaya juice and equal quantity of honey should be mixed with two tablespoons of hot water and given as dose to children in the age group of seven to 10 years. This should be followed two hours later by a dose of castor oil as in case of ground coconut. This treatment should be repeated for two days, if necessary.

The child-patient should be given dry friction bath daily during the period of treatment to build-up general health. Older children should also be encouraged to take alternate hot and cold hip baths daily. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.healtharticles-lk.com , http://www.home-remedies-for-heartburn.com </bio>

Internal parasites can take several different forms and can affect the health of your dog or puppy. The most common internal parasite found in dogs are worms. This is in large part due to fact that a majority of all puppies acquire intestinal worms prior to birth or shortly thereafter.

Roundworms - These worms are generally 2 to 4 inches long. They look like spaghetti and are usually white or tan in color. If a dog has a heavy infestation, they can pass these in their feces and on occasion they'll show up in their vomit. Roundworms can cause diarrhea and vomiting and affect the dog's basic health and appearance. Puppies that are infected with these worms will appear potbellied. Roundworms may become so bad that they can create an intestinal blockage where the stool can't pass. These worms can also be transferred to humans and can cause an infection which may even result in possible blindness if not treated.

Hookworms - These worms are parasitic worms that commonly infect both humans and dogs. These thin, tiny parasites can penetrate through the dogs skin whenever it walks on contaminated soil. When they get inside the body, hookworms will fasten themselves to the lining of the small intestine and feed on blood. Hookworms are much smaller than roundworms and can't be seen with the naked eye. Microscopic stool examination is usually required to detect an infestation.

Tapeworms - These worms can be visually detected with the naked eye and are transmitted to dogs by the ingestion of infected meat or fleas. They are long and flat and attach themselves to the lining of the small intestine. When they reach maturity, they will segment and parts of their bodies will break off and enter the dog's digestive system where they will be passed in the urine or feces. There aren't any real noticeable symptoms, but you can sometimes find pieces of the worm in the dog's feces.

Heartworms - These worms are transmitted by mosquitoes. They burrow into blood vessels and follow the blood stream until they end up in the heart. In about 6 months they grow into long spaghetti like worms about a foot long. These worms form a ball-like clump in the heart and interfere with the heart's pumping action eventually causing heart failure. If the dog is not treated, they usually die from this parasite.

Dogs that are in good condition may not show any outward symptoms of most worm infestations. However, it's a good to detect and treat these conditions so that if disease does occur, the dog's immune system is in the best possible condition to handle a crisis. Also, some of these worms can also transfer to people. To avoid this, action should be taken to eradicate these parasites as soon as possible.

Early diagnosis of intestinal parasites is very important. Depending upon the type of worm present, the vet will prescribe a specific medication. Not all worms will be affected by the same medication and no single treatment works against them all.<bio>Garry Neale is and avid dog enthusiast and creator of the popular e-book, "The Dog Lovers Guide", a FREE dog owners handbook you can download at no cost from his Dog Lover Website.</bio>

Customers pick the best product. Women pick the best genes. Well, not quite.

Every soy sauces claim to be number one.

Who knows which one is?

Consumers do not pick which one is best. Consumers pick which one looks best.

Well, you see, like anyone in the world, women do not pick the best genes. Women pick the best looking genes.

How do they know?

All products, including sperms, require advertising. That advertising can actually hurt gene pool, or even life survival. However, if the advertising can improve women's impressions on the males, some males will do it.

Let's examine the peacocks elaborate tail. Those tails actually hurt survival.

Those tails attract parasites and predators.

Peacock's with shorter tails will not attract predators and hence live longer.

However, the fact that most peacocks have long tail is a proof that at least in the past, peacocks with longer tail have survived better in the gene pool.

We know that it happens because peahens are attracted to peacocks with long tail. The reason why the tails are attractive is surprisingly because the tails hurt gene pool survival.

A living peacock with longer tail must have strong capability to fight parasites and run from predators.

Hence, a built in pattern recognition algorithm in all peahen's mind will correctly conclude that any living peacocks with long tails must have better genes than peacocks with shorter tails.

It's the same reason why human males spend a lot of money for car, donations, big mansions, and bling blings. All those actually hurt gene pool survival. The money used to buy sport cars cannot be used to buy food or health care.

Moreover, a male that show of wealth will often be killed with other males with less to display in their effort to get rid more desirable competitors.

Such killing explains genocide done against capitalists, Jews, and other successfully contributing minorities all over the world.

However, women know that any men that can afford such things must be rich. So women pick such males, and males buy those things.

Advertising of survival capability don't just end there. <bio>Jim Thio is a silver medalist in International Physics Olympiad.
There are a lot of diseases fish can suffer from, and a majority of them are infections. Some of the common parasites are bacteria, flukes, ich, argulus, chilodonella, saprolegnia, etc. The following is a list of the most common diseases in aquarium fishes with their brief descriptions.

1.Bacterial Diseases in Fish

Bacteria are a very common cause of complaint for fish breeders. There are many bacterial diseases in fish caused due to pathogenic bacteria. These bacteria can either attack the fish externally, or can enter into the body of the fish through the skin and can damage internal organs, even leading to death. Fin rot and bacterial gill disease are the most common bacterial attacks in fishes, in which the fins and the gills are infected respectively. If the bacteria have managed to gain entry into the body, it is known as systemic infection. Bacteria can also cause ulcers and lesions on the body of the fish. Bacterial infections are easily apparent externally as ulcerous marks or red irritations on the skin of the fish. Bacterial infections are very common in koi fish.

2.Fish Lice

Fish lice are scientifically termed as argulus, and being about a centimeter in size, they are among the largest parasites found in the animal world. They are very detrimental to the health of the fish, because they can suck out the fluids from the body of the fluids by clamping their proboscis like mouth into the bodies of the fish.

Lice are easily to identify on the bodies of the fish because they are clearly visible. However, it is necessary to carry a careful inspection of the body of the fish, especially in the hidden areas behind the fins. Lice may appear as dark spots when they are not moving. If there are too many lice, the fish will be quite agitated and will move their body a lot.

3.Flukes in Fish

Flukes are parasites in fish that are harmless in small numbers, but can be fatal to the fish in large numbers. Flukes are small, about 2 mm in length, and are almost invisible to the naked human eye. But these flukes have hooks through which they clamp to the bodies of the fish. Flukes can suck out the body fluids from the fish and even cause their death. The significant threat from flukes is that one fluke requires only one fish to complete its lifecycle, and therefore there is more reason why the fluke will remain clamped to the fish. Flukes have been considered to be the most difficult of the fish parasites to treat, though treatments with malachite and formalin often show positive results in stronger doses.

4.Ich

Commonly known as ich, ichthyobodo or costia is a very common parasite that is found on the bodies of fish. Several fish can live with this parasite showing no signs at all. In fact, in small numbers, ich is harmless. The defenses of the fish can keep the number of ich under control. But when fish suffer from some other disease, the defenses are broken and then ich begins to multiply. Ich can multiply at a very fast rate. In no time, the fish will show a large amount of ich on its body, its breathing will become labored and shortly, it will retreat and isolate itself from the other fish. When this stage arrives, ich often proves fatal to the fish. <bio>Salty Supply is your premier store for saltwater aquarium supplies.
A Culligan water purifier is certainly very popular today. Many people are choosing to invest in this water purifier fro their home to improve their health.

However, just because an appliance is popular doesn't necessarily make it the best. Here are the pros and cons of the Culligan water purifier and how effective it is at removing the harmful chemicals from your water.

First of all, Culligan has been in the water purifying business for over 65 years, and they certainly understand the importance of clean water. Remember, our bodies are actually over 70% water, and this liquid is also the only method the body has to cleanse itself. With this in mind, realize that a home water purifier system is one of the most important and crucial appliances you can own for your home.

Tap water in many cities contains harmful chemicals and parasites that, if digested into our system, can cause bad health. Some of these harmful substances include Cryptosporidium and Giardia. These two parasites have proven to cause flu like symptoms and even more serious illnesses.

Despite this, the EPA allows these substances into our water supply.

Of course, this doesn't take into account the hundreds of other harmful substances in our water supply.

Now, you can either force your body to cleanse itself, or you can do the smart thing: buy a water purifier to do the job for you. Most water purifiers are very effective at eliminating these harmful substances from our water supply. But how effective is the Culligan water purifier?

A Culligan purifier provides you with softer, better tasting water than the average tap water. Also, when making tea or coffee, you will notice that your beverage is clear as opposed to cloudy.

The Culligan water purifier is very easy to install and maintain; it requires virtually no installation knowledge on the part of the buyer. Just a quick Google search will provide hundreds of testimonials attesting to the effectiveness of the Culligan water purifier.

Of course, you need to do your due diligence before making a purchase, because Culligan offers many different kinds of water pufferies to suit different purposes. Also, they were recently awarded the water treatment contract for the world's tallest skyscraper, the To Dubai tower, which is currently being constructed.

The Culligan purifier brands have received certification by WQA (Water Quality Association), NSF (National Sanitation Foundation), UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and the CA Department of Health Service.

The bottom line: the Culligan water purifier is very effective at removing the harmful chemicals and parasites from your water. If you are in the market for a water purifier, the Culligan should definitely be at the top of your list. Yes, it costs some money, but if your health is important to you, it is well worth the investment. <bio>To learn about drinking purifier water and in-depth reviews of the best brands, try visiting http://www.water-purifier-reviews.com. </bio>

When it comes to keeping your canine companion healthy both inside and out, it's important for owners to know which parasites see your dog as the perfect host.

One of the lesser-known parasites that pose a danger to dogs is the whipworm. Whipworms, like most parasites, are resilient. In egg form, their hard shells allow them to survive outdoors in the soil for years in the time. In many ways, whipworms are like hookworms, but instead of ending in a hook shape, one end of this worm tapers to a narrow, whip-like point.

Unlike hookworms, whipworms can't enter the body through the skin. The only way for your dog to contract them is by eating the eggs. Whipworms exist throughout North America, and transmission is easy if your dog has any contact with other dogs. The long-lived eggs can show up in the soil, dog toys, discarded bones and water dishes. Once eaten, whipworms then grow to maturity inside your dog's digestive system.

When they reach maturity, the adult worms fasten themselves to the large intestine and the cecum, a transitional pouch between the large and small intestine. Here, these nasty little parasites slash and puncture the intestinal walls in order to feed. The female starts to lay her eggs, which the dog excretes through the feces.

Symptoms for whipworm resemble those for other worms, such as hookworm. Many dogs can carry a certain number of whipworms without showing distress, but past a certain point, your dog may begin to exhibit signs such as a dull coat, anemia, rapid weight loss, and a loose and bloody stool. He may also begin vomiting up a yellow-green substance. In very severe cases, the worms may begin to puncture the intestinal wall, to the degree that the intestine begins to stick to the body wall. In this case, you might see your dog licking and worrying his right flank.

When you take your dog to the vet, it may take some time to diagnose him with whipworm. Whipworms lay eggs only intermittently, and even when they're actively releasing eggs, any diarrhea in your dog can make the eggs hard to find. Typically, vets will perform four stool samples over four days before ruling out whipworm.

If your vet finds whipworm eggs, she'll administer a potent dewormer. But all whipworm dewormers on the market are only effective against worms in their adult form. As a result, you'll probably need to re-treat your dog.

There are no simple and effective ways of removing whipworm eggs from the soil around your house. However, a contaminated environment can infect your dog over and over again. The best way to combat reinfestation is to make sure your dog's quarters are sunny and dry, since whipworm eggs require moisture. Try to place him in an area of fresh new gravel, pavement or soil. <bio>Nathan Fischer writes for Poodle-oo, a site for small dog clothes and wedding dresses for dogs. http://www.poodle-oo.com/ </bio>

Dog ticks are very common in dogs that are always in the woods or are always out on a hike. Ticks can affect other household pets so try to keep them apart whenever one of them is suffering from this condition.

While there are dog tick creams and lotions that do work in killing ticks, they rarely can physically eliminate them. Dead ticks end up still attached to your dog's hair, making them feel itchy and uncomfortable.

Removing dog ticks with tweezers is bad practice. There are different types of ticks and there are some species that can attach themselves to humans. Using tweezers alone don't really protect you from these parasites. Also, tweezers may burst the tick's body, thereby poisoning your pet even more. Certain dog ticks can cause blood poisoning and you definitely wouldn't want this to happen to your pet.

The best way to remove ticks from your dog is to use your hands. Of course, you have to be equipped with the right protection like surgical gloves and a long sleeved shirt. Put several sheets of newspaper on the floor and let your dog sit on it. Look for the ticks that have possibly found their way in your dog's body. If you do find one, slowly remove it with your hand. Pinch and then twist it in a counter clockwise direction while pulling outwards.

Don't apply too much pressure on the tick as its body could burst open. However, if you're having a hard time taking them out, add a little more pressure up until you can fully eliminate them from your dog's body. Once the tick is out, you have to dispose of it by crushing it within the pages of the newspaper. You can also put it on a bowl filled with bleach and then flush all of them in the toilet afterwards.

Ticks cause small wounds in dogs. Imagine them as blood-sucking parasites that permanently stick their mouth into your dog's skin. They take as much blood from your pet as they want. This is the reason why they are very hard to remove at times. And once you had taken them out, there will be small wounds to take care of. Clean and disinfect such wounds by applying antiseptic creams topically. Dettol and Germolene are good brands.

Ticks are in their prime during April to October. As such, you should minimize taking your dog out in the woods or open fields at this time of the year. Ticks love the warmer weather. The only time they can't thrive is during the winter days. If in case you really have to take your faithful dog for a hike during the summer, at least give it some protection from these parasites.

Natural tick repellants such as garlic and vinegar can help. Just a few drops added to your pet's drinking water would do the trick. Also, the commercially available anti-tick powders, creams, and oil, also work. Tick-repelling collars are widely available these days too. Be sure to attach it to your pet whenever you two would like to have fun under the sun.<bio>DogTicks.Org -- website and articles about dog ticks, the main causes of dog ticks and dog ticks treatments.</bio>

The health cleanse used to be one of those things that only Health Freaks did and they only did it during a full moon or something of that nature. Well, it is not so freaky now days; particularly given all the external pollutants and internal toxins that we now have to deal with daily and routinely. A health cleanse is simply removing the toxins from the body, whether from internal or external sources, to restore and enhance our own health. This health cleanse can have one step or several steps but most cleanses will incorporate eating fruits and vegetables with herbal supplements to help the body dump all the toxins it has been forced to store. Your own exposure to pollutants and toxins, given your occupation, activities, where you live, your eating habits and your lifestyle will determine how often you will need to do a health cleanse.

An important reason for doing a health cleanse is: detox colon. Detox is short for detoxification. Since the bowel can retain several pounds of toxic and poisonous fecal matter, especially so if one has a sluggish bowel, the detox colon concept gets your attention. Part of what causes a sluggish colon is the build up of mucus plaque on the colon walls that becomes encrusted layers of mucoid and fecal matter. There can be dangers in using enemas and laxatives to control constipation and these are often only temporary measures whereas a health cleanse is a more thorough way to clean as well as detox the colon.

The colon cleanse health benefit is more than just a clean colon or constipation relief. Because the toxins in a sluggish bowel have nowhere to go, they seep back into the bloodstream and lymph system then tend to accumulate in the weakest area of the body which can cause further health problems. Over years, this contributes to aging and degenerative diseases. One colon cleanse health benefit is reducing your chances of suffering from or at least reducing the degree of premature aging and degenerative diseases you would experience over your life. Increased energy is another colon cleanse health benefit because you are removing the toxins that would otherwise be backing up and clogging your normal body functions. The sluggish colon that goes unhandled for years also leads to bowel problems and bowel inflections.

An Herbal Colon Cleanse does more than laxatives or even colonics. The Herbal Colon Cleanse acts like a broom, it loosens and sweeps away the colon debris. There is a wide array of herbs that have been used for centuries to draw out and remove old fecal matter, infection, parasites and toxins that have built up on the walls of the colon. In our modern hyper-disinfectant world where disinfectants are put into every cleaning product and hand soap, the idea of parasites and worms in the body may seem like something from the 1800's. In fact parasites like pinworms can be transmitted through the dust in the air we breathe, other parasites are found in our water and food and still others are transmitted from our pets. If you are wondering how you would know if you have parasites, gas and stomach bloating, allergies, immune dysfunction, chronic fatigue and anemia are just some of the symptoms and indications of the presence of parasites. All of this makes it well worth while to do an Herbal Colon Cleanse or other health cleanse.

Having healthy digestion and elimination will keep a bounce in your step, where as a bowel problem will sink you faster than a submarine with a sun roof, so to speak. Eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day may not be enough to give you healthy digestion and elimination; it may also require an occasional health cleanse to remove mucus plaque that has built up on the lining of the stomach, small intestines and colon. That buildup of mucus interferers with proper digestion and often results in malnutrition since the nutrients that are being broken down in digestion are blocked from being absorbed into the bloodstream by this excess of mucus buildup. Any bowel problem is always inconvenient but here is the thing, that bowel problem can come from one of some 280 medical conditions. So in this case, prevention is your best medicine. <bio>The quality of your life depends on your health. An external parasite is an insect that lives off the blood supply of the host. The common parasites found on dogs are; fleas, ticks, mites and lice.

Fleas

Fleas are parasites and derive most of their food supply from their hosts. Fleas not only feed off dogs, but will bite just about any other mammal they come in contact with, including humans. A dog that has a heavily infestation will scratch themselves constantly which leads to other secondary skin problems. Fleas are also a host for and infect your dog with tapeworms, an internal parasite.

When fleas are fall off or are removed from a host for a period of time, they don't have a food source. As a result, the hungry fleas will attack the first warm-blooded creature that comes near and often times, this mean biting people. The adult fleas live on blood and must have a blood meal in order to reproduce.

In order to get rid of fleas some people try using a flea comb, but this is not very effective and it's also very time consuming. Most dog owners prefer to use a flea shampoo to attack the problem. Shampooing your dog also gets rid of the skin flakes that fall on the ground and act as food for the flea larvae. Flea collars and topical medications are not as effective as shampooing or dipping, but have been shown to help prevent re-infestation.

Ticks

Dog ticks are another parasite that feeds on blood. Dogs usually get ticks from bushes and shrubbery. These ticks are usually found in the ears, around your the neck or in the creases on the inside of the leg. The ticks can be removed with a pair of small tweezers, but try not to crush the tick while removing as this may cause its saliva to enter the dog's body, creating a possibility of skin irritation or infection. Remove the parasite as gently as possible.

The dog tick is the primary carrier of diseases like canine ehrlichiosis, and in some cases rocky mountain spotted fever, a disease that is also very dangers to humans. Your dogs should be examined closely for ticks on at least a weekly basis if it spends anytime at all outdoors.

Mites

Mites are microscopic parasites that burrow their way into the dog's body through the skin. All dogs normally have a small population of mites living on their body. However, a condition called Mange can develop if your dog's immune system is not working properly. If you see your dog is losing hair and patches of bare skin are visible, you need to have it checked thoroughly by a vet. A lot of diseases can cause hair loss, so it doesn't necessarily mean your pet has Mange. But only a vet can tell for sure.

Severe scratching is another sign to watch out for. If your dog scratches a lot, you need to have it checked. Also, as the mite population gets out of control, your dog may take on a strange athlete's foot-like odor.

Ivermectin, a commonly used de-wormer is the most common treatment for Mange. The medication is usually administered orally, but it can be injected under the skin. In sever cases, your vet will usually institute a regimen of medicated shampoo treatments.<bio>Garry Neale is and avid dog enthusiast and creator of the popular e-book, "The Dog Lovers Guide", a FREE dog owners handbook you can download at no cost from his Dog Lover Website.</bio>
