There are many definitions of thrush. It's sometimes used to describe yeast infection as a category, yeast infection in the mouth, and even yeast infection in a baby's mouth.

Here we will focus on thrush in the mouth, or oral thrush, both for adults and for babies. Oral thrush can exist on the tongue, on the insides and roof of the mouth and even spread to the esophagus. In some cases it can be very painful and may restrict one's diet.

What are the causes of mouth thrush? Our body naturally has yeast cells. These occur in the mouth, skin, vagina and even in the rectum. Under normal conditions, yeast cells are kept at bay by other microorganisms in our body, and it's only when we become deficient in those microorganisms that yeast gets a chance to grow and become a problem.

Oral thrush can occur simply by taking antibiotics or being on chemotherapy. Having thrush and diabetes, or HIV is not uncommon because of the weakened immune system. Even wearing dentures may result in thrush. All of these create conditions in which 'good" microorganisms are depleted and the yeast cells thrive.

What are the symptoms of oral thrush? Typical symptoms include white, yellow or cream colored marks on the tongue and in the mouth. Avoid scraping the marks off since this causes cuts on the tongue. If you think you may have oral thrush, do a search on the Internet for "pictures of oral thrush" and then you can compare to your own situation.

How to treat thrush When planning a treatment for thrush, think short and long term. In the short term, there are many oral medications that will take care of it and your doctor can advise you on what to take. If you are looking for a natural treatment for thrush, then consider garlic, or yogurt with acidophilus.

Alternatively, you can find books on the Internet for treating oral thrush naturally. Which ever path you take, try and understand what was the root cause and address that so that thrush does not reoccur.

Thrush in infants Yeast infections in the form of oral thrush or diaper rash are common in newborns. The combination of thrush and breastfeeding can result in thrush being passed to the mother, even when the baby just has diaper rash.

Nipples with yeast infection may appear very red and be extra sensitive. There may be pain between feedings and the pain may run deep in the breast both during and after breastfeeding. Gential violet is a solution that is popular for mothers with yeast infection on the breast.

Thrush and HIV Thrush occurs because of a deficiency in the immune system and is common in HIV patients, but is thrush an early symptom of HIV? Not necessarily, for as mentioned earlier there are many other causes. However, the appearance of thrush for an HIV patient might indicate changing conditions in the immune system and should be discussed with one's doctor.

If you think you have oral thrush, consult your doctor before taking steps to cure it. The symptoms of oral thrush are similar to other conditions, so it's best to know what is the issue as soon as possible. <bio>Frank Thornton writes on yeast issues at http://www.yeast-infection-cured-naturally.com/ </bio>

These days there are many kinds of diseases that are just dismissed by people as if they are not important. Discoloration, spots or rashes in any part of the bodies are deemed as irregularities but are not really candidates for urgent treatment. One such occurrence that can turn into diseases is oral thrush. Some people may not even know that what they or their loved ones have is oral thrush but oral thrush and all other kinds of thrush can spread to other parts of the body not originally affected if not treated.

Oral thrush is usually described as white to cream colored or yellow spots in certain areas of the mouth. These spots are also slightly raised so it can be felt as a small bump. People who have oral thrush normally feel no pain in the area underneath the spots and might even have the urge to scratch it off. If you scrape off the said spots, they leave small wounds that bleed slightly.

The earlier description is true in most cases but for adults, thrush can also cause an uncomfortable burning sensation in the mouth and throat. Some of the causes of thrush for adults include the simple of reason to stress or an even deeper problem that is an underlying disorder.

Oral thrush treatments for infants should include a period of waiting may be appropriate. It is highly advisable to go to the doctor. During the early stages, it is not really a life and death situation but start to worry when the condition does not resolve in two weeks in which case an oral thrust treatment from a doctor will come in handy. As for preventive oral thrush treatment or tips, it is a must to always sterilize bottle nipples or pacifiers and to wash, in hot and soapy water, toys that baby frequently chews on.

On the other hand oral thrush treatments for adults though largely similar to infants have some factors that are not really applicable to infants. The older victims of thrush are capable of trying to investigate for themselves the condition that caused the thrush and do something about it. They can actually do a sort of preventive oral thrush treatments or procedures to avoid the thrush from recurring. As soon as the condition that caused the oral thrush has been treated then the thrush itself can be cured.

Oral thrush treatment usually consists of anti-fungal medicines in the form of pastilles that are sucked or oral suspensions that are held in the mouth before swallowing. If unfortunately complications occur then oral thrush treatment that is systematic should be applied. This can be in the form of dosage of anti-fungal tablets or if advanced form of oral thrush treatment is needed then maybe through injection.

As in any disease, the important thing is early detection and being pro-active about the entire case at hand. There will always be that period of observation for cases like thrush but it should not last very long. The key really is to never ever hesitate to see your doctor for oral thrush treatment. Others may think that thrush is something that over the counter drugs can cure so there is no use to go to the doctor. Then again as mentioned, in the earlier paragraphs, the doctor has to see you to assess if what you have is a plain thrush or is a manifestation of something else.

Note: This article may be freely reproduced as long as the AUTHOR'S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and and all links must be Active/Linkable with no syntax changes. <bio>Charlene J.
As you are no doubt aware the human body is made up of millions upon millions of cells along with both good and bad bacterias Sometimes the bacterias get out of balance and multiply rapidly causing infection, Thrush is one of these infections.

One of the many organisms that lives on the human body is Candida Albicans which is found on and in about eighty percent of the human population. Thrush can be found in several areas including the colon, vagina, stomach, throat, mouth and rectum. Under normal conditions Candida Albicans doesn't cause any problems but an overgrowth of this bacteria can lead to a thrush infection or candidiasis.

A thrush infection is not a serious problem, but major discomfort can result if it is left untreated. It can also lead to a much more serious condition if it left untreated which is why anyone suspecting they have a thrush infection should visit a doctor for medical advice right away. Persistent thrush should especially be seen to by a doctor and never ignored.

Signs And Symptoms

Since visiting a doctor when you have a thrush infection is important you will want to know the signs and symptoms to be on the lookout for. Having white creamy patches in the mouth is the most common sign of an oral thrush infection. In addition those with an oral thrush infection may have red spots in their mouth, crusts forming at the corner of their mouths and difficulties swallowing.

A vaginal thrush infection is most commonly recognized by a discharge that looks like cottage cheese. Often this discharge will be accompanied by burning and itching in the vaginal area. The lips of the vagina may also swell and become red with tenderness when touched. Women are the main sufferers of thrush and about seventy-five percent of women will have a thrush infection at least once in their lives.

Prevention

So how can you avoid getting a thrush infection? A normal amount of yeast is important to have good vaginal health, but there are other ways you can prevent a thrush infection from occurring. Limiting sugar intakes can be the most beneficial to preventing a thrush infection since it thrives on sugar. You can also prevent the recurrence of a thrush infection by eating a low sugar diet if you have persistent infections. You also want to allow the infected area to breath by wearing cotton undergarments, pants and skirts and make sure you clothing is loose fitting.

It is best not to use over the counter medication in an attempt for self treatment since some antibiotics and other medications can make the infection worse. Before trying any kind of medical treatment it is best to seek the advice of a medical doctor. If the infection persists it is very important that you revisit your doctor so that he or she may carry out further tests to examine wether there is another cause for your continued ailment. <bio>Authors Biography: Paul Courtney contributes articles to various publications pertaining to Alternative Medicine, Herbal Medicine, Herb Gardens, Organics, Eczema, Heart Burn and is the main contributor to http://www.stopallyeastinfection.com </bio>

Thrush is a fungal mouth infection that is caused by yeast, also known as Candida fungus. Even though every person has a small about of yeast in their bodies, most people have the ability to naturally combat the yeast with helpful microorganisms and bacteria in their bodies. Thrush is considered a common occurrence in infants and younger children. However, it is important to know that adults and those who have a suppressed immune system can find they have thrush as well.

What causes Thrush?

There are specific illnesses and medications that can lead to thrush, some medications can cause occurrences as well. Specific medications can cause thrush because it will offset the balance your body harbors naturally of bacteria and organisms known to fight yeast. Such medications could include antibiotics, birth control, and corticosteroids. If a person is infected with some sort of illness, they too can experience a thrush infection. Some illnesses and conditions that are linked to thrush include dry mouth, cancer, pregnancy, HIV, and diabetes. Other reasons that can lead to thrush include ill-fitting dentures, a breast feeding mother and smoking.

How will I know if I have Thrush?

If you notice, literally overnight, the presence of white bumps along your tongue, cheeks, tonsils, gums, or roof of your mouth you can just about be sure you have thrush. You can usually compare their appearance to that of cottage cheese and they can be extremely painful. If the thrush is severe, it may spread beyond the mouth and into the esophagus. If this occurs, you could experience some difficulty or pain in swallowing and a fever if it spreads further than the esophagus.

What is the Cure for Thrush?

Once you have visited your doctor and had thrush properly diagnosed through any one of the many tests he or she could perform, he or she will likely prescribe medications to help in curing thrush. Antifungal medication is available in many forms. These can include pills, liquids, or lozenges. What caused the thrush and how old you are will help determine the type of treatment your doctor recommends. Typically the treatment will last anywhere from ten to fourteen days.

It is important that you always take good care of your body and your mouth in order to prevent the occurrence of thrush. Brushing twice daily and flossing once daily will help reduce your risks of thrush. Also be sure to see your dentist on a regular basis. This is especially true if you are a person who wears dentures or you have diabetes.

Disclaimer - The information presented here should not be interpreted as or substituted for medical advice.
What is gentian violet?

Gentian violet sounds like something that is very sophisticated but actually it is not. It certainly is not a color but rather gentian violet is just a quite popular treatment for thrush. Thrush occurs because of infections on the skin or mucous membranes inside the mouth and may infect both infants and adults.

People at special risk for developing thrush are the following: newborn babies, denture users, adults with diabetes or other metabolic disturbance, people undergoing antibiotic or chemotherapy treatment, drug users, people with poor nutrition and people with an immune deficiency. These people or the people around them, whichever is applicable, should be extra observant so that any signs or symptoms of thrush can be detected and then treated right away otherwise the condition has a chance of worsening.

It is a belief of many that gentian violet is the most effective treatment of nipple soreness for breastfeeding mothers. The mothers who have used gentian violet can attest that relief is rapid so meaning it usually works right when you need it meaning as soon as possible but make sure that the dosage is right. To be discussed in the paragraphs to follow are some of the suggestions to people who use and about to use gentian violet for thrush. These next items will indeed be very useful to gentian violet users.

Gentian violet can be messy so timing, though not everything in this case, of the application of this treatment is essential. Most mothers prefer to doing the treatment just before they get a good night's sleep because during those house they can keep their nipples exposed thus no need to worry about staining their clothes while the application is in progress.

The effect of the gentian violet for thrush is sort of immediate and in most cases thrush is one hundred percent gone by the third day if not then consider applying affected areas for a few more days. If problem persists then it is time to consult your doctor.

If baby is irritable while being nurse by a mother who uses gentian violet for thrush then the mother should stop using the gentian violet immediately and then go see a doctor instead for other possible suggestions for the treatment of the thrush.

There are other ways to cure thrush but gentian violet is still the one thing that people readily look for when thrush occurs. In this case there is a need to make sure that it is the genuine gentian violet for thrush and not some rip off medicine that you have in hand. This is so because some people are questioning the credibility of gentian violet and some attribute the failed times of gentian violet to fake products that do not have same ingredients as the real gentian violet.

These are just some of the things that users of gentian violet for thrush should be aware of. The notes are just easy to remember. It is now possible for you to recall how and why gentian violet should be used for thrush. If unfortunately one day you wake up and discover that you have thrush then you can use the information in this article for your own good. Otherwise you can always provide the information you have read to a very worried mother whose kid has thrush but who knows nothing about gentian violet.

Note: This article may be freely reproduced as long as the AUTHOR'S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and and all links must be Active/Linkable with no syntax changes. <bio>Charlene J.
Oral thrush is one type of yeast infection. This as the name indicates happen in the mouth, a location that is constantly moist and ideal for proliferation of the yeast. This condition which is quite common in the very young and elderly individuals can be remedied by proper treatment and control of diet.

Diet has an important role in many bodily activities including keeping the level of the immune status and in preventing overgrowth of yeast. So, regulation of diet plays a rolein preventing yeast infections. Apart from diet, the other factors that play a role in helping overgrowth of yeast include badly constructed dentures, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, iron deficiency, chemotherapy, pregnancy, endocrine problems, and any contributory skin problems.

Oral thrush is seen to form a white coating on the surface of the tongue and palate and sometimes on the inner portion of the lips and in the throat. It can sometimes take up a yellow color instead of white. Apart from this, the person is seen to have a craving for yeast products like bread, sugar or alcohol. This cannot be noted in young individuals as they cannot express their craving, but there are other ways to diagnose the condition.

Some other common symptoms that are usually seen are problems with digestion and fatigue. The most important symptom of yeast infection is a rash that could be found as an inflamed peeling patch on the area of the tongue or palate. There may also be presence of discolored excess tissue and cracking of the lips at the corners.

There may be some burning sensation associated that makes babies suffering from oral yeast infection very uncomfortable especially while nursing. This is added to the fact that they are not able to express their problem verbally to the others.

Babies usually contract the yeast infection at birth due to increased yeast proliferation in the vagina of the mother. It can also be spread from the mother to the baby due to the presence of infection below the mother's breast or within the breast or on the nipples. It is also possible that the yeast infection can spread from any other person in the family or through a pet in the household although it is more common from the mother.

The diagnosis is confirmed by taking a scraping from the mouth or through a swab. While providing treatment both the mother and the child need care as the infection can again be spread from the mother if she is not treated and vice versa. There is also a high chance of developing resistance if the infection goes on recurring.

One biggest problem you might face if your baby is suffering from thrush is the difficulty in feeding as the infection could cause difficulty in swallowing. For this reason, the baby is likely to go hungry and cry a lot. He/ she will also suffer from disruption of sleep due to hunger. This could then result in other type of complications and the child might fall ill and remain very irritable. So, check your baby's mouth for any white coating on the tongue or other areas of the mouth and see if it will go off when wiped with a moist cloth. If not, check with the pediatrician whether your child is suffering from oral thrush.<bio>Before you look for any yeast infections cure, find out more details on oral yeast infection here</bio>

The health benefits of breastfeeding are many: postpartum weight loss, increased immune system for the baby, a close bond between mother and child, yet sometimes the health and joy of breastfeeding can be disrupted by a very pesky fungus known as candida albicans.

While candida occurs naturally in the body, when it is allowed to grow unrestricted, it can cause problems in breastfeeding--for both the mother and infant. A baby who develops a candida condition often suffers from infant oral thrush or severe candida diaper rashes, while a mother's body responds by developing candida or thrush on her nipples and in the milk ducts, often causing itching, pain and even a decrease or cease in milk production. Thrush can also be passed between mother and infant.

A common cause for candida in breastfeeding women is taking antibiotics. Whether the woman or infant has taken one round or multiple rounds of antibiotics, the medication kills off the good bacteria in the system as well as the infection. In these conditions, the good bacteria is not there to fight the candida overgrowth--so the fungus proceeds to grow out of control.

Furthermore, pregnancy itself makes it more likely for a woman to develop candida overgrowth due to the increase in estrogen levels that lead to elevated sugar levels in the body. It's no secret that yeast feeds on sugar, thus, promoting the candida condition.

Other issues that leave a breastfeeding woman more susceptible to nipple and breast thrush is when the woman has had a vaginal yeast infection during the pregnancy or if she is experiencing cracked nipples due to baby's poor latch when nursing. Both conditions open the door to candida. Other contributing factors include chronic illness, lowered immune system and use of steroids.

Possible symptoms of a breastfeeding woman with candida include:

A red rash-like appearance on the nipple or red nipples.
Nipples may appear swollen, scaly, or have tiny blisters.
Sensitive and irritated nipples; pain or discomfort when touched.
Severe pain during nursing.
Pain, burning and/or itching of the nipples during and between feedings.
Sharp pains deep in the breast tissue or milk ducts.
Decrease in milk supply.
Breastfeeding infant may also have thrush in his or her mouth, although this isn't always the case.

One of the most frustrating aspects for many mothers with breast thrush is the decrease in milk supply. It is important to most women to attempt to continue breastfeeding through the infection. However, sometimes the severe pain prevents proper let-down reflex which leads to the baby not getting enough milk. If the baby also has thrush in its mouth, which is likely, he or she may also be experiencing pain, adding to the struggle.

Most healthcare professionals recommend treating both the mother and infant for candida overgrowth, even if just one of them is presenting with symptoms. Otherwise, the yeast can continue to be traded back and forth.

Common treatments for breastfeeding-related thrush are prescription antifungal creams as well as gentian violet. Proper nutrition is also very helpful when it comes to keeping the candida away. Avoiding sugar and process foods, and flushing the system with lots of water are positive steps to improving ones diet while preventing future thrush outbreaks.<bio>To learn more about infant oral thrush, breastfeeding thrush and candida, visit Candida Solutions.</bio>

These organisms live in about 80 percent of the human population. Thrush can be present in different parts of the human body including the colon, vagina, stomach, throat, mouth and rectum. Candida Albicans does not pose any health problems under normal conditions but an overgrowth of the said bacteria can cause a condition called Thrush or candidiasis.

Thrush is not a serious problem but if left untreated it can cause major discomfort. In some instances, thrush can also lead to a much serious condition. This is why anyone who thinks that they are suffering from thrush must immediately seek medical advice. Thrush, especially if it is persistent, must never be ignored.

So how do you know if you are suffering from thrush? One of the telltale sign is having white creamy patches in the mouth. Red spots on the roof of the mouth, throat, gums and on the tongue are also clear indications of Thrush. A person suffering from Thrush may also see crusts forming on the corners of his or her mouth. Difficulties in swallowing, nausea and chest pains are some of the other signs of having Thrush.

The most common telltale sign of Thrush among women is a vaginal discharge that resembles cottage cheese. This discharge is often accompanied by burning and itching of the vaginal area. The lips of the vagina can also swell and become red and tender to the touch.

Thrush can usually be detected by a doctor by examining your throat and mouth. In some cases, the doctor may need to check your stomach and throat by using an x-ray machine or an endoscope to check whether you have actually have thrush or not. Sometimes though, a visual examination by the physician is sufficient diagnosis.

Majority of Thrush sufferers are women. It is estimated that a whopping 75 percent of all women in the world will experience having Thrush at least once in their lives.

Can Thrush be prevented? Of course it can. Every women must remember that a normal amount of yeast is necessary for good vaginal health. That is why it is not advisable to result to primary prevention of the formation of yeast. Yeast infection like Thrush feeds on sugar. This is a very helpful information among Trish sufferers. And because Thrush feeds on sugar, limiting sugar intake was found by most Thrush sufferers to be very effective.

A low sugar diet can also prevent the recurrence of Candida Albicans overgrowth. The affected area must also be allowed to breathe so it is highly advisable to wear cotton undergarments, pants and skirts and loose fitting pants and skirts.

If Thrush infection is persistent, then it is highly advisable that the sufferer seek the advice of a medical expert. Self treatment through over the counter medication is also not recommended since some medicines especially antibiotics can worsen the Thrush infection. Always ask the advice of a doctor before undergoing any kind of medical treatment.

It is also wise to seek the counsel of other individual who are suffering or who has recovered from a Thrush infection. The insight and advice that they will provide will be valuable in your own road to recovery. The Internet is a very good place to find individuals who are suffering or who has recovered from Thrush.

Note: This article may be freely reproduced as long as the AUTHOR'S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and and all links must be Active/Linkable with no syntax changes. <bio>Charlene J.
When it comes to yeast, the body is very familiar with this common fungus. It is present in the bowels, digestive tract, mouth, skin, and vagina on an everyday basis. Our bodies effectively fight off this fungus until there is a reason for the immune system to turn its attention to other parts of the body, or that same immune system is compromised by the use of antibiotics.

The use of antibiotics in Western society is the most common reason for yeast infections. Antibiotics often do such a great job at fighting off bacteria that the good bacteria in the body, the bacteria that fights off the fungus associated with a yeast infection, is killed along with the bad bacteria. When this happens, the fungus overgrows and a yeast infection occurs.

While yeast infections are most commonly associated with the vagina and women, men have just as much a chance of contracting a yeast infection as women do. Sexual contact is the most common pathway for the transmission of yeast infections. Yeast infections can be transferred to the genital area of the man through unprotected vaginal intercourse, or the oral cavity through unprotected oral intercourse.

When the fungal infection is contracted through vaginal intercourse, the treatment for men is the same as the treatment for women. A cycle of anti-fungal cream in common cases and an oral anti-fungal prescription medication in more severe cases.

Oral yeast infections, are also known as thrush. Thrush can be characterized by the thick white covering of mucus over the tongue and sides of the mouth, often spreading to the lips. Thrush is treated with oral anti-fungal prescription medications.

While yeast is very common in the body, most infections are caused by a yeast overgrowth in the bowel. Some of the most common factors associated with an overgrowth of yeast in the body include:

* High levels of stress

* Extreme fatigue

* Poor dietary choices

* Use of antibiotics

* Use of oral contraceptives (women)

* Diabetes

The body is naturally able to fight off fungal infections as the result of yeast overgrowth when the body is in top shape. In order to better human health and prevent the occurrence of yeast infections:

* Maintain a healthy diet with plenty of rest. When the body is not rested, the immune system can falter and an increase in yeast growth may occur.

* Practice safe sex. Sexually transmitted yeast is common and can occur both orally and genitally.

* Wear light fitting clothing in the summer. Tight fitting clothing does not allow the skin and genital areas to breathe. Air exchange can prevent the overgrowth of fungus.

* Never wear clothing that causes sweating. Yeast loves moisture, so preventing sweat from accumulating and resting on the skin, especially the genital areas will reduce the chance of a yeast infection.

Yeast infections are a part of human health that nearly every person will have to deal with at least once in a lifetime. These conditions are highly treatable and preventable with a look into what causes this fungal infection and the risk factors for increased chances of yeast infections.<bio>The Natural Cure for Yeast Infection has become the most popular and effective yeast infection cure available online today.
"What is that white patch on my baby's mouth"? Any mother could have mumbled similar statement like this while giggling with their angels. Basically, those white curd-like patches that can be seen in the tongue are not simply food residues but thrush. What is a thrush in simple terms?

Thrush is yeast infection caused by specific species of fungi called Candida Albicans. Usually, these organisms live in any healthy intestinal folds of all humans except that when the environment of the body undergoes drastic chemical change, the yeasts grow in uncontrolled amounts causing irritable symptoms of thrush anywhere in the body. However, they have favorite places, especially the hidden and moist folds of the skin.

In a very wet portion of the body, the tongue is one of the perfect places for yeasts. In the mouth, which is the main receiving vessel of all foods and beverages, it has all the possibilities of infection while its alkalinity is always changing constantly every meal. If it is not hygienically maintained, thrush can spread in no time.

The trouble with thrush is that it is never attractive to look at whenever your baby smiles. Usually, thrush in infants is always mistaken to be traces of milk, as they appear nested at the tongue. If the baby is undergoing diaper rashes at the same time, expect that what you have seen in the mouth is not ordinary milk residue. Actually tongue thrush in infant is not harmful, however it can cause some amount of discomfort and irritation and feeding problem, if painful.

To some severity, it could ooze and really get painful. No matter how you scrape the white residues with a brush, it usually does not get removed at once. For babies, it is best to avoid thrush by doing the following:

For younger infants, the mouth must be religiously wiped by wet washcloth every after feeding to prevent accumulated food residues from sticking long to the mouth. Avoid sugar altogether. Breastfeeding moms must make sure that if they contract thrush in the nipples, they take precautionary measure not to contaminate the infant's mouth.

For adults, thrush is easier to determine. Sometimes it is caused by some medicines that alter the natural balance of the body flora. Such medicines must be taken with precaution unless really needed, or otherwise, it should make one aware of the side effects, and one of them is fungal infection. These medicines are: antibiotics, birth control pills, steroids found in meat products, cancer drugs.

For adults, if white patches are noticed on the tongue, it can be brushed lightly with baking soda or some amount of salt before it gets harder to remove and really thickened. By doing this on every brushing, the spots will be diminished. It is also important to brush the teeth and take mouthwash after eating. If the thrush is uncontrollable, as it has explosive capacity of 100 cells within 24 hours, then it must be consulted to a doctor.

Tongue thrush is a very common thing that happens to anyone from time to time. The mouth is a heavy traffic of the most basic need we do, that is eating. It will not be hard to deal with it if there is enough prevention done. The best way to avoid tongue thrush is good dental hygiene plus brushing of tongue as part of cleaning it.

Note: This article may be freely reproduced as long as the AUTHOR'S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and and all links must be Active/Linkable with no syntax changes. <bio>Charlene J.
Candida Albicans is a fungus that lives in small amounts in our body. "Friendly" bacteria keep it in control. When something happens to upset the balance between bacteria and fungus, Candida can grow and spread throughout the body. Candida Albicans is the cause of vaginal yeast infections in women.

But Candida Albicans can spread through the bloodstream and cause symptoms all over the body, some of them may be severe. It is important that you recognize the symptoms caused by a yeast infection so you may begin treatment as soon as possible.

You know it is a vaginal yeast infection by intense itching and burning in the vaginal area. A white, thick discharge that looks like cottage cheese may also be present. You may treat this by an oral pill or over-the-counter antifungal creams.

Thrush is a condition that produces white, patchy areas on the tongue and inside the mouth. This usually occurs in people with weakened immune systems and in the elderly or newborns. Thrush can be painful and make it difficult to eat. It is important to give plenty of fluids to a person with thrush to keep them from getting dehydrated. The treatment for thrush is an oral antifungal in pill form or suspension.

Candida is normally present on the skin. However, any breakdown of the skin's outer layer can lead to an overgrowth of yeast. This looks like a red rash with scalloped edges. These rashes can cause intense itching and pain. Treatment for Candida on the skin depends on the severity and location of the rash. You should have your doctor look at it to discover the best treatment.

In people with weakened immune systems, such as HIV or cancer patients, yeast infection can develop in the esophagus and extend to the stomach. This is a painful condition and makes if difficult to eat or even swallow liquids. People with esophagitis are in danger of becoming severely dehydrated and their doctor may admit them to hospital for treatment.

Candida that gets into your intestinal tract will burrow small holes in the lining of your intestines and allow yeast and their toxic by-products into your bloodstream to travel to major organ systems. Candida that gets into your bloodstream may or may not cause a fever. It can also migrate to your brain and cause changes in your mental status or behavior. Candida in the bloodstream can be dangerous and hard to treat. Early intervention is important to the survival of a person with systemic Candida.

The best way to keep Candida under control is to take good care of yourself. Eat a healthy diet and exercise two to three times a week. Cut back on alcohol consumption. Decrease the sugar and carbohydrates that you put into your body. Get plenty of sleep and try to decrease your stress level. Take a good multivitamin to keep your immune system healthy. Stay away from antibiotics unless necessary. The healthier your body, the better it's ability to fight off the overgrowth of Candida Albicans. <bio>Get the latest in Candida Albicans know how from the only true source at http://www.yeastinfectionfacts.com.
Yeast is a unicellular fungus. Fungi are an organism that lacks chlorophyll the pigment which makes plants green. In the singular, it is called a fungus and examples are moulds, mushrooms, rust and mildew. One of its attributes is that it produces ethanol by fermenting sugars. Yeasts live in a multitude of diverse habitats, such as in soil, on the leaves of plants, and within flowers. Within mammals, they live in the intestine as parasites or by a process known as symbiosis. A parasite cannot live independently; they have to be hooked up, and supplied with food from another organism. Symbiosis means existing together, where there is either a mutual benefit or a benefit to one party.

Remember that Candida Albicans is an opportunist. Candida yeast numbers millions in a healthy gut but if it is not kept in a healthy balance it will invade every inch of the six feet long human gut. Candida yeast does no harm; it is a non invasive organism that ferments sugar. Once it crosses the line and become fungi it develops long root like structures or rhizoids. In fungi, these rhizoids grow as they feed on digested sugars. The rhizoids eventually penetrate the intestinal walls, causing leaky gut syndrome.

How Candida precisely works against your body does depend partly on your genes and your lifestyle, with the latter having a greater impact. If there is a strong genetic propensity that you will inherit a compromised immune system, that does not mean that you will have a Candida overgrowth. No symptom, disease or illness is caused by one factor alone. If you take care of your diet, drink moderate amounts of alcohol, exercise regularly and moderate your stress levels and get plenty of sleep you can overcome a genetic tendency. Unfortunately, for many people this is simply too much effort and they allow themselves to fall victim to an unhealthy body system.

Another factor which affects how the Candida yeast infection works against our bodies is age and gender. It is a common misconception that men do not get yeast infections, they do, but compared to women theirs is not as severe. Seventy percent of sufferers are women and typically, they will have thrush or another vaginal infection.

Children are more likely to suffer from oral thrush, white sores in the mouth which are highly infectious. Small children are more at risk because of the fondness for stuffing anything and everything into their mouths. When a child places a toy that has been in the mouth of a child with oral thrush, they could get it too. The mouth offers a perfect host to yeast infections, it is warm and moist. It is also possible to catch Oral thrush at any age, it is common in patients with a seriously compromised immune system such as those that have Aids or are HIV positive.

Cutaneous Candidiasis is a fairly common skin infection generally caused by a Candida infection; again it targets the warm moist areas, such as the groin, and the armpit. The obese are more at risk because of the excess number of warm skin folds available for the yeast. It is also common inside a diaper in small tots. Candida can also cause onychomycosis, a fungal nail infection whereby the nail gradually works its way from the finger. <bio>Hyacinth Allen (Ceci) Author of "The Silent Sufferer" (The Hidden Horror Of living with Candida) http://www.naturalcandidacure.com </bio>

You've heard it time and again. "Don't forget to pick out your horse's feet." But why is this so terribly important?

It is easy to assume that if you picked your horse's feet out before you rode that they would be fine when you are done. Or to feel that since you horse has been inside all night that there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with his feet that needs cleaning. Unfortunately, neglect of hoof cleaning can lead to many problems in the long run.

The obvious reason for cleaning feet is to remove dirt. But many people don't understand why it is so important to remove that dirt in the first place. After all, wild horses don't get their feet picked out.

A barefoot horse tends to loose the dirt from its feet fairly easily. While it may pack in there, it will fall out over time from the impact of the feet on hard surfaces. Often a barefoot horse will have clean feet when you go to pick them out, which is what you prefer to find in a healthy horse.

With shoes, the dirt is packed into the foot and held in place by the unnatural confines of the shoe itself. Often the dirt remains packed in the foot for days at a time, not allowing the hoof to breathe properly. The dirt can also harbor dangerous foreign bodies such as sharp rocks.

Whether your horse is shod or barefoot, it is essential to pick out the feet and remove any rocks or other potentially harmful foreign bodies. Horses' feet can bruise easily, particularly around the frog. Bruises often lead to abscesses, which can cause a horse to be seriously lame for weeks at a time.

Another risk that many have heard of, but few fully understand is thrush. Thrush is an infection of the hoof caused by a fungus that grows in the dark, damp confines of the hoof. Horses with deep grooves beside the frog and a groove in the heel are more prone to thrush than the average animal. Some horses seem to have a particularly weak immunology against thrush and will get it no matter how regularly you clean their feet.

To prevent thrush it is essential that the hooves get cleaned one a regular basis. Horses who stand in stalls much of the day have a higher risk of thrush due to the moist bedding that gets lodged in their hooves.

Thrush has a distinct smell that clings to the fingers and hoofpick after cleaning the feet. If you notice any strong odor from your horse's feet, it would be smart to treat for thrush as a preventative. There are many products available to treat thrush. Ask your vet or farrier for the product(s) with which they have had the most success.

If you take good care of your horse's feet, you will ensure that he will remain sound and healthy for your riding enjoyment.<bio>Lydia K Kelly is a writer for HorseClicks, classifieds of horses for sale Massachusetts, horses for sale Michigan, horses for sale Minnesota and other states.
If you have diabetes, chances are good you will also have problems with a bacteria known as candida. Why is there a connection? Because every living human has candida in his or her system. Usually the "friendly bacteria" keep the non-friendly candida at bay, but certain factors can allow the candida to flourish -- factors that are often brought on by diabetes.

For example, candida is a cause of vaginal yeast infections in women, and while yeast infections are very common, they are even more common among women with diabetes. This is because diabetes impairs the body's immune system and its ability to fight infections. Candida growths that would be taken care of naturally in non-diabetic people become problematic. Also, high blood sugars (characteristic of diabetes) make the mucous membranes more sugary, which is a perfect environment for yeasts to grow in.

Diabetic women who have candida-caused yeast infections can usually remedy them just about as easily as other women, provided they are properly diagnosed. (Some studies have shown that about one-third of women who diagnosed themselves thought they had a yeast infection when in fact it was something else. Always see a doctor so you can treat the right illness!) Treating a yeast infection often takes longer for diabetic women, though. Usually the 14-day medicinal therapy is necessary to get rid of it for diabetic women, as opposed to a three-day or seven-day program. But it is just as treatable as for non-diabetic women, so the fact that it's more common shouldn't be worrisome to you.

Candida causes other conditions besides yeast infections, including many that are common to men, too. (In fact, the vaginal yeast infection is really the only "women-only" condition related to candida.) Candida is a bacteria that can grow into a full-blown fungus, and the entire body is susceptible to it.

For example, oral candidiasis, also known as oral thrush, is a fungal infection in the mouth that manifests itself with white or yellow spots. It occurs more often among diabetics. Antifungal medications, prescribed by your dentist, can take care of it. It's important for anyone to practice good oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, etc.), but particularly for people with diabetes, since their immune systems are slightly compromised and their blood sugar levels slightly higher, thus creating an environment conducive to candida growth.

So it's clear that people with diabetes should take extra care to avoid conditions that will lead to trouble with the candida bacteria. But how do you know if you have diabetes? The most common symptoms of type 1 diabetes (the more serious variety) are frequent urination, excessive thirst, and increased appetite. Some patients have blurred vision, fatigue, and irritability, too.

If you suspect you may have diabetes, it's important to see a doctor right away and be tested for it. Diabetes was once deadly but is now almost always easily treatable -- but it does need to be treated. Patients who monitor their blood-sugar levels and take the necessary treatments and precautions usually live normal, healthy lives. They are at greater risk for yeast infections, oral thrush and other candida-caused conditions, but even those can usually be managed. <bio>Jane Symms has an interest in Candida.
Yeast infections are very common today and a lot of factors can cause them. They're caused by excess candida bacteria and known by several terms including yeast infections, candidiasis and candida infections. Candida can be a serious illness and despite seeming to be mostly an imposition, untreated candida conditions can be very serious and impact many areas of your health.

You can treat most vaginal yeast infections with over the counter drugs like Monistat (Miconazole, Tioconazole) and Nyaderm and you can also find many holistic cures for candida as well. The type of cure you need is a personal decision based on many factors including your health, how frequently you have candida problems and your personal preferences.

Over The Counter Drugs For Yeast Infections

Over the counter preparations can help with the many associated symptoms of vaginal infections such as itchiness, burning and discharge and various medicines can be used for vaginal yeast infections versus oral thrush. Oral thrush requires a different approach so something like Monistat can not be taken orally. You could also have a candida infection in your GI tract that results in many other symptoms like sinus infections, food cravings and feeling sluggish that might require an oral medication instead of a topical cream. Candida infections can impact various areas of your body and require different levels of treatment

How To Treat A Yeast Infection

Treating your yeast infection yourself with an over the counter (OTC) medication can be done in some cases by choosing one of the main preparations available in 7 day, three day and even 1 day cures but the important factor is that you know before treatment that you are specifically dealing with a yeast infection. It's wise to have your first infection treated based on advice from a doctor who can advise you based on many factors including your existing health status.

The majority of women will have at least one yeast infection in their lifetime which can happen as a result of many reasons including health problems, use of antibiotics, bacterial infection, dietary issues and sexually transmitted infections but the first time you use an over the counter yeast infection treatment like Monistat or Nystatin should only happen after proper diagnosis by a physician.

Other health problems can closely mimic a yeast infection so it's important to rule out other health problems before taking it upon yourself to pick up a jar of cream or suppositories at the drug store. After you know you have had a candida infection it's easy to recognize it when it occurs again so many women can self treat the infection based on using a remedy that has worked in the past that they know won't put their health at risk.

If you have frequent bouts with yeast, you should look for the underlying cause and consider experimenting with dietary and lifestyle changes which could impact the amount of and frequency of candida overgrowth in your body. A lot of information is available for recurring yeast infection sufferers.

Candida albicans bacteria can replicate quickly under specific circumstances and knowing the triggers in your body can help you proactively work to reduce the likelihood of recurring infections and recurring needs for products like Monistat which could eventually become ineffective for you.<bio>Learn more about Monistat for Candida, untreated candida consequences and other yeast infection information at Candida-Solutions.</bio>

I remember when I was a kid I saw many mouthwash commercials that were advertising defense against a gum disease called Gingivitis. I will never forget one commercial in particular; because it featured a huge black Gingivitis spelled out onto the screen. Then the mouthwash, in the form of muscular globs, splashes onto the screen and breaks the Gingivitis into small pieces, then washes it away.

Mouthwash is a great way to prevent Gingivitis, but what are some of the causes of Gingivitis? The main causes of Gingivitis are poor oral hygiene, viral and fungal infections, and poor nutrition.

Poor oral hygiene is the most common cause of Gingivitis, because when plaque stays on your teeth for more than a few days it turns into tartar. Tartar then starts to build up next to your gums, and causes irritation and can lead to Gingivitis. The worst thing about tartar is that it can not be removed by brushing and flossing alone. The only way to get rid of tartar is to have your teeth professionally cleaned by a dentist.

Viral and fungal infections have also known to be a cause of Gingivitis, because many infections can cause damage to your gums. Oral thrush is one infection that causes many problems in your mouth, such as lesions on your mouth and gums.

These lesions can then lead to Gingivitis if they are not dealt with quickly.

Poor nutrition is also a major cause of Gingivitis, because a lack of certain vitamins and minerals can cause weak gums. You need to make sure that you get enough calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin B. Calcium is very important because it makes your bones healthy, including the ones that support your teeth. Vitamin C and vitamin B are important because they help keep your gums strong and healthy.

You need to make sure that you brush and floss your teeth twice a day to help prevent plaque from becoming tartar. You also need to take care of any infection very quickly, and eat a healthy diet regularly. If you do these things, then you will eliminate the major causes of Gingivitis, and have a better chance of having healthy teeth and gums. <bio>Looking for a treatment for Gingivitis?
There are so many infections that are caused by Candida, especially the species Candida Albicans, in various parts of the body.

Moniliasis or Oral Thrush

This type of oral infection usually occurs when there is an overproduction of Candida Albicans. It is also common among denture wearers and occurs to both very young and elderly who are recovering from disease or have an immune system problem. Likewise, people who are experiencing dry mouth syndrome are also prone to having Candidiasis.

Candida may be triggered by antibiotic treatment, which decreases normal bacteria in the mouth. Good oral hygiene is encouraged to prevent Candidiasis. Dentures should also be removed especially before going to bed. There are saliva substitutes as well as prescribed medications that may be used to treat some severe case of oral thrush.

Intertrigo

This is an infection that occurs in the folds of skin, most commonly seen on overweight individuals. Redness and moisture in the skin fold are also observed. Small pustules appear around raised areas of inflamed skin and are usually filled with pus or papules around the main area of redness. Likewise, peeling, itching and swelling are also experienced.

Vulvovaginitis

This is one of the most common Candida infections, found mostly in women. The symptoms include swelling and itching of the vagina along with a thick, cream or white discharge. There is also pain during intercourse. There is an observed redness with rashes that oftentimes extends to the groin area. Vulvovaginitis is dominant among pregnant women and recurs frequently in women who are using birth control pills.

Men can also suffer from vulvovaginitis and this is indicated by inflammation that can be seen on the head of the penis. There can be swelling, and also small red papules or pustules, and often a burning sensation after sexual activity.

Diaper Candidiasis

This is the type of infection that is commonly seen in babies due to diaper rashes. However it should not be assumed that all diaper rashes are due to Candida. There are signs and symptoms such as small fragile pustules that are often dry and usually peel. In addition, this infection is accompanied by firm reddish nodules of 1 to 2cm on the vulva or the buttocks. There is also nodular granulomatous Candida or granulomatous gluteale infantum. This infection usually clears over time.

Paronychia

This is an example of a Candida infection that occurs on the nails. People who contract these types of infections generally have their hands in water or handle food on a regular basis as food encourages the growth of yeast on hands. The areas around the nails are usually swollen without the cuticles. There is also postural discharge that results to nail discoloration and often times caused the removal of the nail base. This is also called lateral onycholysis.

Chronic Mucocutaneous Candidiasis

This is an example of a recurrent Candida infection that does not respond to medical treatments. This is the type of infection is visible in the mouth and on the skin. It can be observed on infants and children. It is identified by persistent oral rashes that may be hypertrophic and produce thick plaque in the mouth.

Chronic paronychia is manifested by redness around the nail folds. This infection is usually a genetic condition that is either recessive or dominant. It also may cause endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism or hypoparathyroidism.

If you suspect you are suffering with Candida, you should consult your primary care physician. <bio>By Jane Symms.
Aside from the traditional and natural snoring remedies, oral appliances are also helpful in preventing a person snore. These are actual medical devices which have been carefully designed for snorers so that it lies either on the tongue or the jaw of the user. Oral appliances appear much like a mouthpiece when worn because of the way it looks.

But oral appliances obviously do a great deal of purpose when a snorer starts to use it. A snorer who regularly uses an oral appliance should expect his mouth shut at all times especially while sleeping. This is to prevent any sound produced by the vibrating trachea.

In some cases, when the structure of the jaw is what causes snoring, the oral appliance when used pushes the jaw forward. This prevents the tongue from falling backwards when the snorer is lying in bed while sleeping which minimizes blockage of the air passage from the throat.

Another great benefit that an oral appliance alone can do is that it widens the air passage over time. By regularly using an oral appliance, the air passage just stretches out as it would as when a rubber band is constantly stretched out.

A good thing about oral appliances also is that it does not provide any discomfort for the snorer unlike the results of snoring surgeries. These appliances are very simple to use since it is only worn while sleeping but usually, it is recommended to be worn on short periods at night. The air opening from the throat to the back of the mouth is maintained open while the mouth is closed so as to prevent any vibration to occur. The tissues on the throat are also pushed back and collapsed at the back of the mouth which even leads to an even wider air passage.

Oral appliances can also be worn the entire night though if one desires so. As long as it provides comfort and quicker treatment for the snorer or a person with sleep apnea while sleeping. <bio>Click Stop Snoring Solutions http://stop-your-snoring-solutions.com to find out more about informative snoring remedies. </bio>

Candidiasis is an infection caused by the over-growing of the fungus called Candida albicans. These fungus normally grows in the stomach but harmful if found in other parts of the body. This infection is also known as thrush or yeast infection.

Normally it is found in the human stomach as it aids in digestion. If it is found in some parts of the body, it could be a serious sign or symptom of the disease. These are the body parts where Candida albicans could be found:

1. In the male genitals specifically in the prepuce of the uncircumcised man. 2. In the vagina, this is called vaginitis or vaginal irritation. 3. Fold of the skin where diaper is placed, this is called diaper rash. 4. In the oral cavities, this is called oral thrush.

Yeast are normally found in the human body, but it becomes abnormal if it overgrows on a certain parts where it should not even be there. Most women experience yeast infection in their life as Candida albicans can be found on the vagina due to over productionof yeast. In pregnant mothers, the use of antibiotics and diabetes can be a cause of candida infection.

You will know if you have candida infection if you will note the following signs and symptoms. In the vagina, you will notice a whitish gray discharge. That sometimes look like cheese or smells like beer or baking soda.

To determine the presense of candia, you can use potassium hydroxide (KOH). A piece or a skin scrap of the affected area is then placed on the slide to be viewed over the microscope. A small amount of KOH is dropped over the slide, the KOH is dissolved by the skin leaving the microorganisms unharmed. You will be seeing the pores of the Candida albicans over the microscope. If it is present in huge numbers, it will suggest yeast infection.

You may then have to rub your skin with a sterile swab. It must also be rubbed over the cultured medium, which will be incubated in a few days. Colonies of yeast may develop which gives a concrete idea of the presence of the disease in the body of the tested specimen.

Home remedies can treat this infection effectively. You can use the following guidelines to be able to get rid of candida infection:

• The most effective treatment for yeast infection is acidophilus. Acidophilus comes into many forms, such as tablets, caplets, liquid, ointment form and powdered. You can take the treatment orally or topical. Acidophilus ointments are also effective in treating the infection. The duration may take two weeks for your infection to vanish completely.

• You can also use boiled guava leaves as an antiseptic wash for your infected vagina. It has antiseptic properties that effectively removes the bacteria that grow in the skin of your vagina.

• You can also use garlic together with tea tree oil, as it is also a powerful treatment for yeast infection.

This information will be a great help for you to eliminate the infection of yeast in your body. Knowledge about the disease is the most effective tool in treating the infection.

Note: This article may be freely reproduced as long as the AUTHOR'S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and and all links must be Active/Linkable with no syntax changes. <bio>Charlene J.
Oral hygiene is very important, as we have been told since we were young. In fact, brushing our teeth and gargling were among the first practices we were taught when we were kids. Most of us would have probably learned how to brush our teeth well even before they could utter words clearly or speak straight. If asked about the significance of oral health, most people usually talk about cute smiles and fresh breath. Who would want to risk his reputation anyway by smiling in front of his friends or the camera with unclean teeth. Or imagine how embarrassing it would be when you suddenly notice that your friend has intentionally, yet subtly stopped breathing while you are talking. It's a good thing he didn't dare ask you whether you swallowed a dead rat.

The need to maintain oral health though far exceeds the desire for a confident smile or sweet smelling breath. For, poor oral hygiene and untreated oral problems can greatly affect the quality of people's lives. If the eyes are the window into people's innermost being, the mouth is a mirror that reflects the health condition of their body. Recent researches indicate that there is a link between periodontal (gum) disease and heart diseases such as stroke. Moreover, 90% of all systemic health problems have manifestations in the mouth.

Based on the latest Surgeon General's report regarding oral hygiene, the quality of life of many Americans is often reduced due to oral health diseases and pain. The disturbing pain is usually caused by gum infections, which can also result to loss of more teeth. The study also said that 75% of the American population suffers from gingivitis or periodontal disease. Yet the alarming fact is that these oral infections can seriously affect some major organs of the body thus leading to certain diseases such as bacterial endocarditis (an inflammation of the lining of the heart and its valves), intestinal failure, irritable bowel Syndrome, oral cancer, and other diseases.

Since maintaining a good oral health is vital, you must strive to observe the proper ways of oral hygiene. Aside from personal practices such as brushing, gargling, and using dental floss, it is advisable for you to visit your dentist every 6 months. Moreover, it is necessary that you should inform your dentist not only of your dental, but also your medical history or recent health problems. Your dentist is usually one of the first individuals to detect and diagnose a health problem and he can help you in identifying these diseases in their earliest phase. In conclusion, people are advised to practice good oral hygiene in order to avoid getting some diseases. <bio>For more valuable information on Oral Hygiene, please visit http://www.eknowitall.com/health/oral-hygiene/ </bio>
