Tidal Power, often referred to as tidal energy, is achieved through the capture of the energy created as water moves in ocean currents and tides. Two types of tidal power can be harnessed for energy-efficient power. The first is called kinetic energy. This is tidal power directly created as the water is moving in rivers and in oceans as tides. The tidal power that requires one more step, called potential energy, comes from the difference between low and hide tide height. This height is commonly referred to as head.

The kinetic tidal power process uses turbines to produce the renewable energy. To understand this process think of windmills and visualize them underwater =96 this is the means for kinetic tidal power. It is becoming increasingly more popular because its impact on our ecology is so much less dramatic than the building of dams, or what some refer to as tidal fences or barrages. The United States and other countries across the globe are studying their coastal areas with an eye for the suitability of the region for the production of kinetic tidal power. The ideal of these have high speeds of the water that occurs in the local channels as they enter the river or bay. Water currents in rivers that run between islands are especially good for tidal power as the currents there are highly concentrated and often quite powerful.

Tidal power, with solar and wind energy, are one of the most popular and well-touted of the sources of renewable energy. This is because ocean tides especially are caused by the orbit of our solar system. Ocean currents, as part of this process, happen because of the way winds are affected on the earths surface. This tidal power supply is, thus, deemed inexhaustible. The primary energy source here is the kinetic energy produced by the orbit of the system of earth and moon, and earth and sun. Tidal power has an excellent potential as a future source of the generation of electricity because the energy generated by these galactic rotations will continue unabated forever - or so scientists believe. Tidal power is not something new, however. European tidal mills have been a part of grain grinding operations for almost one thousand years.

How efficient tidal ocean dam power is depends on the height of the tidal swells rise and fall. This is commonly referred to as amplitude. This amplitude can be as high as 33 feet 10 meters. This occurs where the tidal waves are funneled into fjords or rivers and water velocity is extreme. The speed of the water might be as fast as 16 knots. One example of this is Vancouver Island in Canada. Even greater amplitude is experiences in the Bay of Fundy, where the amplitude might reach 56 feet 17 meters. This is because the tides resonance amplifies the ocean waves.

Thus, we see that the selection of the right location for a tidal power generator is crucial to its success as an efficient source of green energy. <bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.plumbing-course.co.uk </bio>

Naturally, we love Death Valley. We love its wonderful beauty with spectacular sunsets, colorful and exotic rocks and canyons, those amazing dunes, the unthinkable adaptability of desert basin wildlife, and that mysterious and vibrating silence.

In Death Valley you can see the earth's original naked and bare surface, in its pure and elementary shapes. It is a place from where life has moved.

Death Valley was named by gold seekers who tried to cross this desolate region in 1849 on their way to the California gold fields. They realized soon that they have to battle severely if they want something. Many of them had a long and agonizing death from dehydration in the desert.

Death Valley is a land of extremes. It is the hottest, driest, lowest. Temperatures in the Valley can range from up to 130F (54 C) in the day in the summer, to below freezing at night in the winter. This is among the widest temperature spreads in North America. But why is that?

'The temperature of a certain area depends upon a set of conditions that are called climate controls. These controls include latitude, altitude, topography, distance from large bodies of water, and nearby ocean currents. All these factors added up together created the circumstance to reach such a high temperature' (from The Physics Factbook).

In terms of altitude, the lowest elevation in the Western Hemisphere is in Death Valley. Generally, the lower the elevation, the higher the temperature. Badwater, in the south central part of Death Valley, is 282 ft (86 m) below sea level, the lowest point in the Americas. In terms of topography, Death Valley is a harsh desert with an average of 5 cm of rain a year. There are no nearby bodies of water, thus, no ocean currents.

And how did this valley evolve? During the Pleistocene era, the floor of Death Valley was once a lake. Lake Manly stretched for a hundred miles, and was as deep as 600 ft.

Today it is a tourist attraction: two museums, 10 campgrounds, two resort hotels, a motel, and a trailer park indicates 'vivid' life here. Death Valley National Park include the Funeral Mountains, Coffin Peak, Hell's Gate, Starvation Canyon and Dead Man Pass - this is clearly a place with a bad history, reflecting the troubles and misfortunes endured by the pioneers who first traversed, inhabited and mined the region during the end of the last century. <bio>Fruzsina Csery wrote this article for http://www.caonsale.com </bio>

If you're looking for a unique and great place to take your next vacation, then think about taking a trip to a place on the Atlantic Ocean. Many people think of vacationing on the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico or somewhere else in the Caribbean Sea, but few people take seriously the attraction of vacationing on the Atlantic Ocean.

I love discovering places in America that are unreached and unexplored when it comes to tourism. And while it is true that many, many people vacation on or near the Atlantic each year, it is also true that there are still a lot of great reasons to give the East coast a try.

One of the greatest reasons to try a vacation on the Atlantic Ocean is because the East coast is relatively uninhabited by the every day tourist. So there is a level of quaintness and quiet that cities and towns along the Atlantic offer that nowhere in Florida or California can offer. So if you are looking to vacation somewhere a little off the beaten path, then look no further than a great East coast vacation on the Atlantic Ocean.

Grab a magazine or do an online search to find some of the best places on the Atlantic Ocean that you might like to visit. Think about how you want to spend your days of vacation and then start planning a great trip out East. What I love about the Atlantic Ocean is that there is a wide variety of things to do for people of any age and any kind of hobby.

You can catch a great baseball game, go fishing on the Atlantic Ocean, stay in the heart of a huge city or in a quaint bed and breakfast. The options are endless when you make a decision to visit one of the best parts of the country. Talk with a travel agent or some of your friends that travel often and get their help and suggestions.

Gather your friends and family and get off to your Atlantic Ocean vacation as soon as you can. Make reservations, get flights and do what you need to so that the trip of your dreams can come true. Life is far too short to work it away, so be sure that you take time for vacations as often as you can get away. Enjoy yourself a little. Take time to explore parts of the country and the world that you've never seen. Prove everyone who thinks the Atlantic Ocean isn't a great location for a vacation dead wrong! <bio>Hallidae Thomason is addicted to traveling.
Well it might be wise to start this column off by stating that it comes with a bias. I love the Atlantic Ocean and I would not move away from it in a million years. My bias comes from the first 22 years of my life living on the beaches of Santa Barbara over on the west coast.

Not what you expected to hear I bet! Most people that grow up in California either stay there, right on the coast, or at least stay on the western side of the states where they can at least enjoy the mountains. I however have quite a different take, not an unpopular one either, especially after you are able to hear and to think about what you are able to hear and think about what you are about to read and ponder in the following paragraphs about the wonders of the Atlantic Ocean.

Growing up on the west coast was great don't get me wrong but there were certainly things that tainted the beautiful serenity of the Pacific ocean for me that are not associated with the Atlantic ocean in my mind.

Number one thing would be the drugs. Basically in California if you weren't a weirdo you were high on some chemical that made you forget about the high cost of living that you had to deal with and the constant threat of earthquakes ever lurking on the horizon of my anxiety. The mixture of these more than average stressors drove me to cocaine and heroin, which was everywhere you turned in sunny California and especially on the beaches. I'm sickened to think about the dragnet that this was for me and a lot of other folks who wasted their chance at a productive start on the shores of an ocean that was not the Atlantic Ocean.

The other main thing I love about the Atlantic Ocean is the relative lack of surfing, a sport I once loved but now detest. I lost my love to the jaws of a viscous Pacific Ocean shark as she was paddling out on a large wave day you see, and have renounced the sport that took so much from me. Its not that the east coast waters don't have sharks its just that they are colder and less enjoyable to surf in (less waves.)

So overall it isn't a love of the Atlantic Ocean for me so much as it is a hatred for the Pacific Ocean that haunts me with all of the deepest recesses of my life that I want to recover from and forget about. Maybe this way I will be able to fall asleep at night without valium. <bio>Hallidae Thomason understands that her love of the Atlantic Ocean is not rational--but when is true love rational?
Young earth creation science advocate Andrew Snelling proposes in his article "Can Flood Geology Explain Thick Chalk Layers?" that it is possible to lay down massive layers of chalk in a short amount of time (Footnote 1). It is necessary for him to prove this can happen, because the chalk layers must be laid down during the Flood of Noah for him to prove that the earth is young, and that the days of creation were literal twenty-four hour days.

So, what is chalk? For that I refer you to Dr. Snelling's article, and the section so titled. Then come back here and continue reading.

The Hook, Line, and Sinker Tactic

Further down in his article, he aptly describes the problems that must be solved for flood geology to account for these thick chalk layers. The key problem here is the production rate of these organisms. In order to lay down these thick chalk layers, these organisms must be very prolific. In fact, he states the deep ocean floor as the place with the purest calcareous ooze, and its reported accumulation rates range from 1-8 centimeters per 1,000 years and 2-10 centimeters per 1,000 years, depending on the origin of the ooze. At this rate, his obvious problem is to figure out a model which can produce 1,329 feet of chalk in only the time frame of the Flood of Noah (371 days).

To propose the young-earth model, Snelling relies on the research of Dr. Ariel Roth and John Woodmorappe. He does so by slowly upping the ante, by gradually leading us up and up the scale of believability. He starts by Roth's calculations that "the top 200 metres of the ocean would produce 20 grams of calcium carbonate per square centimetre per year, or at an average sediment density of 2 grams per cubic centimetre, 100 metres in 1,000 years." Okay, now we don't have millions of years as geologists propose, but if you do the math, you can create 1,329 feet of chalk (the amount in the cliffs of Dover, England) in only 4,050 years. We are closer to 371 days, but still far away.

These calculations were based on the source of the chalk being foraminifera. Now, Dr. Snelling leads us into the other source of chalk, coccolithophores. Roth, using this source, argues that these organisms can multiply at a rate of 2.25 divisions per day. Now, we are able to "produce an average 100 metre (305 feet) thickness of coccoliths as calcareous ooze on the ocean floor in less than 200 years." Following this math out, we could produce 1,329 feet of chalk in 750 years. We have gone from millions of years, down to 4,050 years, and now to 750 years. We still have a ways to go to get to 371 days.

It is obvious at this point what tactic is being employed by Dr. Snelling. Call it the "Bait and Reel." He presents the problem, then tempts you with the bait. First, he lowers it to 4,050, then to 750 years. What he is doing is gradually reeling in the reader into believing his conclusions. Of course, the average reader with no knowledge of the subject will fall for this tactic 'hook, line, and sinker.' However, if you take the time to step back and look, you realize he has to use this tactic to convince his audience, because a straightforward approach would fall flat on its face. Anyway, let's allow him to continue.

Now we move into the "Blooms" part of his argument. The two supporting geologists "recognize" that coccolith accumulation is not a slow, steady process, but is highly episodic. In other words, they have periods of highly increased production rates, even to the point that near Jamaica you can see "white water" conditions because of the density of these organisms. The various reasons suggested for this condition is "turbulence of the sea, wind, decaying fish, nutrients from freshwater inflow and upwelling, and temperature."

At this point, Snelling claims all of these "reasons" would be present during the catastrophic global Flood, "thus rapid production of carbonate skeletons by foraminifera and coccolithophores would be possible."

He states, "It has been reported that oceanic productivity 5--10 times greater than the present could be supported by the available sunlight." The reported 5-10 times production rate would lower the 750 years to 75 years at best...not to the 371 days required by the flood model. (Notice that although he can get us down to 75 years, the rest is speculation.)

Why Noah's Flood Can't Produce Chalk Layers

Okay, even if you believe this, it is impossible to overcome the following argument.

Let's back up to the beginning of the article. Remember that these chalk beds form when the organisms die, and their calcium carbonate shells start falling slowly to accumulate on the ocean floor. "It has been estimated that a large 150 micron (0.15mm or 0.006 inch) wide shell of a foraminifer may take as long as 10 days to sink to the bottom of the ocean, whereas smaller ones would probably take much longer. At the same time, many such shells may dissolve before they even reach the ocean floor."

What happens when you have a planet full of water? A study of the currents during such an event was done by young-earth creationists Baumgardner and Barnette, and young earth proponents depend heavily upon this study (Footnote 2). You get flow rates at 40 to 80 meters per second, or 131 to 262 feet per second, which equates to 89 to 179 miles per hour currents. These flow rates are located in rotational gyres over the continents. The flow rates over the shallow, continental shelves would also be close to these speeds. Unfortunately for Snelling, these organisms thrive in calm waters, not turbulent waters. You can imagine what would happen to an organism's production rate of 2.25 divisions per day. Division would be the last thing on its mind, it would merely be trying to survive.

The currents cause several more problems. In Jamaica, you can see these placid, calm seas, which are white with organisms. Try running a 90 mile per hour current through there, and see what happens...oops, no more white clouded water. They would be dispersed all over the ocean currents. By this model, it would be impossible to "bloom" in one place...as these blooms would be carried along on the currents, scattering their remains all over the world, instead of the one spot over England that you need for the Dover cliffs. In fact, you would get NO chalk beds anywhere in the world!

Furthermore, remember the statement two paragraphs up, "many such shells may dissolve before they even reach the ocean floor." The size of the larger shells is 150 microns. Using Stokes Law, which determines the velocity at which a particle will settle out of the water and be deposited on the bottom of a fluvial system, a particle of that size would sink to the bottom when the water velocity goes below 1.5 centimeters per second, or 1/30th of a mile per hour (Footnote 3). Please note the Flood model flow rate is at a minimum 89 miles per hour! Therefore, these particles would never fall out of the ocean currents, and would dissolve as they were carried along. Again, the Flood model would yield NO chalk beds at all.

Can you discard the current studies done by Baumgardner and Barnette? Go ahead. The problem is...if you do that, you don't have the erosional forces to supply the material to form all the other sandstones and siltstones! Either way you choose, you can't account for the layers of rock we see using the young-earth model.

Conclusion

According to the Flood model, we should not have any chalk beds. However, chalk beds exist all over the world. The only possible explanation is that they formed exactly as geologists have theorized. It is obvious that the Flood of Noah could not have produced them.

Footnotes

1 "Can Flood Geology Explain Thick Chalk Layers?"
When we talk about renewable energy we are referring to power that delivers energy from resources that will not be depleted because of our use of them. Renewable energy is an alternative to non-renewable fossil fuel energy for reasons other than the factor of non-depletion.

One basic benefit of renewable energy, and the reason environmentalists all over the globe are advocate its use, is that it does give off greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants as do the by-products of burning fossil fuel for energy. Renewable energy such as solar power, water power and wind power, while the widespread discussion of which is new, are anything but new.

In both newly developing and highly developed countries wind, sun and water have long been used as power sources, though not to the extent of providing the primary energy source for large metropolitan communities.

The mass production of such renewable energy is become commonplace in recent years as more and more people come to realize how climate is changing due to the pollution of fossil fuel gases, due to the exhaustion of the availability of these fossil fuels and the political and social concerns of energy sources such as nuclear power.

Many countries and non-profit environmentally-conscious organizations are encouraging the use of renewable energy sources by passing legislation on tax incentives for their use and subsidies to offset the added expense of converting from fossil fuel to renewable energy.

The flow of renewable energy involves phenomena that occur naturally in our world. Tides, sunlight, wind and heat derived by geothermal occurrences all provide renewable energy. Each of these energy sources is unique both in where we can use them and how.

Most technology that converts renewable energy into power sources we can use are powered at least in part by the Sun if not directly at least indirectly. The earths atmospheric system stays in such equilibrium that the heat that it gives off radiates into space to an amount equal to the radiation that comes to earth from the sun.

The result of this energy level within the atmosphere is roughly translated to the climate of the earth. The water of the earth, also referred to its hydrosphere, absorbs a lot of the radiation that comes to us from the sun.

Most of the radiation gets absorbed at the lower latitudes of the earth that exist around the equator. This energy gets dissipated all around the globe, however, in the form of ocean and wind currents.

The motion of the ocean waves might have a role in transference of mechanical energy between the ocean and the earths atmosphere by way of wind stress. Solar energy also provides the means by which precipitations is distributed and then tapped by hydroelectric energy projects as well as plant growth that then creates biofuels. <bio>James Copper writes for http://www.propertycareerskills.co.uk who offer energy assessor training courses for people who wish to change career. </bio>

What's Lurking Beneath The Waves?

People often seek ocean vacations to escape their winter woes. Ocean dangers do exist, especially when daring people venture into the ocean on their own.

Sharks are probably the first threat people think of, especially since the movie "Jaws" was released. Although highly-publicized, shark attacks are relatively rare.

Other dangers involve currents such as rip tides and undertows. Proper instruction and flotation devices can assist one in surviving unpredictable ocean currents.

There is one threat that most ocean visitors are at a total loss to deal with: jellyfish.

What's So Bad About Jellyfish?

Jellyfish are marine invertebrates having a bell-shaped, jelly-like substance enclosing their internal structure. Most species have tentacles covered with stinging cells that can stun or kill other ocean life. Most jellyfish use this stinging defense to catch prey or to defend themselves.

Most jellyfish are not very dangerous to humans, but a few are highly toxic. A recently discovered Australian species is suspected of causing two deaths there.

You may be swimming with jellyfish and never even know it. Many are tiny with unnoticeable stings. However, if you ever get caught in the stinging tentacles of a larger jellyfish, panic is likely, as this author can attest.

What To Do If Stung By A Jellyfish

Try not to panic! Thrashing will only increase the amount of stings you will receive. Next, notify someone immediately who can help you get out of the water. If you are stung by a rare and toxic jellyfish, drowning is possible, so get to the beach or on board a boat.

Seek a doctor's assistance immediately! Most people won't even know what happened to them. Only trained medical help can properly evaluate the severity of the stings and the appropriate treatment.

Most people will not seek medical help. Instead, they rely on home remedies for jellyfish stings seen on television or told to them by locals. It is a mystery why sting victims don't seek immediate medical assistance.

If you were bitten by a snake, would you wait and see what happens? Of course not - you would go to the emergency room as fast as possible! Stings or bites from any sea creature, including jellyfish, sea urchins, rays and others, should be considered the same as a snake bite and treated accordingly.

Jellyfish sting home remedies usually involve the application of human urine, a solution of meat tenderizer, or fresh water to the site of the stings.

Some of these home remedies are wrong, and will make the situation worse.

Why Most Home Remedies For Jellyfish Stings Are Wrong

The jellyfish evolved in the ocean, so it's stinging defenses are optimized for use in salt water. The use of fresh water will increase the venom injection of any stingers still stuck in the victim!

Likewise, massaging the sting area, or using alcohol, spirits, ammonia, or urine will also encourage the release of venom.

The mythical urine cure is probably the most misunderstood, yet is likely the most well-known. It was popularized on the television comedy "Friends" in the episode "The One With the Jellyfish."

How To Deactivate Jellyfish Sting Venom

If you can't get to a doctor, the first step in properly treating jellyfish stings is to deactivate the stinging cells still stuck in the victim. The following deactivation solutions may be used:

* A 5% percent acetic acid solution (available commercially as white vinegar) is the preferred method.

* Solutions of meat tenderizer, or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) will neutralize any stingers that have not yet released their poison. Meat tenderizer should not be left on the skin for more than 15 minutes.

* None of these substances should be used in the eyes. In the case of stings on or near the eyes, dip a towel in the deactivating solution and dab it around the eyes, but not directly into open eyes.

* Salt water can be used if none of the above products are available.

Removing Jellyfish Stingers

After the stingers are deactivated, persons with protective clothes and gloves should carefully remove any tentacles from the victim.

Any remaining embedded stingers should then be removed. This can be done by applying shaving cream to the affected area. Carefully scrape the sting area with a sharp surface, such as a razor, a knife blade, or even a sharp plastic edge such as a credit card.

Mild skin irritation can be soothed with the use of over-the-counter antihistamines containing diphenhydramine (such as Benadryl (tm)).

These Treatments Are Not Substitutes For A Doctor

Always see a doctor if you are stung or bitten by a jellyfish or any other sea creature. These jellyfish sting home remedies are not meant to replace a doctor's expertise. You may wish to begin applying the proper care as first aid while waiting for the ambulance. If you do, tell the paramedics and doctor what steps you have taken.

But whatever you do, please don't urinate on your jellyfish-stung friend. Although it makes for a funny story later, it will make your friend's pain - and humiliation - worse.

To learn more about using common ingredients to cure uncommon illnesses, please refer to the resource shown below. <bio>Doug Smith offers free home remedies at http://www.superhomeremedies.com Discover how to use mayonnaise, duct tape, yogurt, banana peels, cola, mouthwash, peroxide and other common ingredients to cure common but embarrassing conditions. </bio>

There are some occasions where it will be necessary for people to swim in the ocean. Some people will feel quite comfortable venturing out into the ocean as long as land is in sight. This type of swimming in the ocean will usually occur in a beach setting and there may be many people around that can be contacted if the swimmer requires help reaching the shoreline.

When people plan to go snorkeling however, it might be necessary for them to abandon all land connections and board a charter boat that will take them to a coral reef location that will be out in the open ocean areas and the distance traveled by boat will make seeing land virtually impossible. In the open ocean, there are very few opportunities that a swimmer will have to be saved and they must rely on their own swimming abilities to remain afloat for any length of time.

Salt water has a consistency that will help swimmers remain afloat. The body is very buoyant when exposed to salt water and swimming through the water might require a person to use more strength in their strokes than they would if they were swimming in a swimming pool filled with fresh water. Snorkeling equipment is very light and limited because there are no air tanks involved. A swimmer can float on the surface of the water and view objects beneath them for hours if they want to.

For open ocean dives, a diver might be tasked to swim with a considerable amount of weight on their back. This is where the strength training that they take during the summer months will come in very handy and could prove to be a vital point in survival if the swimmer is stranded in the open ocean. When swimming in the open ocean, a swimmer must be keenly aware that they are not the only life forms that swim in those waters.

While swimming in open ocean environments, a swimmer must remember not to drink the salt water. While the water might quench the thirst for a little while, it will in fact, deplete the body of fluids that the swimmer needs to survive. The salt will cause the lips to become dry and the sun will scorch the areas of the skin that are above and below the surface of the water. The swimmer should use reflective devices if at all possible to bring attention to the location they are in the water.

If sharks are present while snorkeling in the open ocean, it is best for the swimmer to surface slowly and leave the water as soon as possible. Swimmers should avoid splashing or making loud noises because sharks will show interest and could perceive the noise to be a form of aggression. Divers should not swim with shiny objects on them because sharks are attracted to these objects. Divers should not go swimming in the open ocean if they have an open wound on their body for the same reasons. Sharks have a keen sense of smell and could consider the swimmer as a natural source of food. <bio>James Brown writes about http://www.latestcouponcodes.com </bio>

Terri Marie: I know. I thought you were going to say three millennium. Well, that leads me to something -- I am going to ask some questions that are maybe a little bit off the beaten path. But I know if anyone has an answer it will be you. And you were just talking about it's all one energy and we're all one world connected, and I believed that as well, but then how do our individual soul fit into the process of life?

John Harricharan: My initial thought to that, my initial reaction would be 10 divino . But it is interesting that you asked that question. And I will answer it this way. There is the mighty ocean of water. It is one individual body of water.

And in this ocean, there are a lot of little waves. And each wave is an individual wave. And in each wave there is a -- there are lots of individual drops of water.

Each one of those drops has the quality of the entire ocean. Each wave is made up of what the entire ocean is made up off. And yet, the wave is unique in its own right. The drop of water is unique in its own right.

So all individual souls -- again I figure, because I don't think there's anyone on earth who could answer this question with absolute certainty. In fact, I don't even think there is such a thing called absolute certainty. But there are probabilities. And so I would venture to say that the souls are like part of the ocean, and yet, very, very separate being a unique individual or a unique entity.

And it's like -- and I hesitate here because we're dealing with some very, very strange and different thought patterns when we take the entire universe into consideration, because again, the universe might be a lot different than what we think or can think. And so I would say that our individual souls are connected like the drops of water or the waves in the ocean instead of being connected like raisins in a bun. <bio>Lecturer, entrepreneur and Fortune 500 business consultant, Vish Writer is the author of the Amazon No 1 bestseller, "The Joy of Becoming God" For more information, visit: http://www.spiritual-simplicity.com http://www.vish-writer.com </bio>

I have a few places on my list that I must visit before I die. Most of these places are located next to the ocean and have amazing beaches and ocean wildlife. I love the ocean and I really love surfing as well as swimming with different types of wildlife in the ocean. Another major reason to visit these locations is the truly amazing sites that can be visited which can not be duplicated anywhere else in the world. The places I must visit before I die are Italy, Hawaii, and probably the most important, Australia.

The main reason that I want to vacation in Australia is for the amazing surf that is created there. The Great Barrier Reef creates the best waves in the world for surfing. I have also been very intrigued about Australia ever since I saw the movie Point Break, and Patrick Swayze's character dies while surfing during the "Fifty Year's Storm". I grew up thinking that dieing while surfing would be the best way to die, because you would die while doing something that you love. Not only does the Great Barrier Reef supply outstanding waves, it also is a habitat for an enormous amount of ocean wildlife. I could spend years snorkeling in this area trying to see all of the amazing ocean wildlife that Australia has to offer.

Australia also has amazing places to visit while you are vacationing there. The most famous building in Australia is located in Sydney, the Sydney Opera House. This famous landmark was shown in nearly every shot that was taken of the city during the 2000 Olympics. To me one of the best things about Australia, and Sydney in particular, is the tremendous amount of bed and breakfasts there are to stay in. I was looking online and I saw about twenty or thirty different bed and breakfasts, with all different types of amenities. Some of these bed and breakfasts had four star services, and others were more like apartments, where you took care of everything for yourself. I think that staying in one of these places could make your vacation in Australia that much more interesting. I'll see you in Australia! <bio>Visit our Australian Bed and Breakfast Directory to help you plan your vacation to Australia! http://www.ozbnbdir.com/ </bio>

LCD screens are uniquely modern in style, and the liquid crystals that make them work have allowed humanity to create slimmer, more portable technology than we've ever had access to before. From your wrist watch to your laptop, a lot of the on the go electronics that we tote from place to place are only possible because of their thin, light LCD display screens. Liquid crystal display (LCD) technology still has some stumbling blocks in its path that can make it unreliable at times, but on the whole the invention of the LCD screen has allowed great leaps forward in global technological progress.

Although liquid crystals are not really liquid, their molecules behave more like a liquid than they do like a solid, which earns them their name. The crystals in an LCD exist in a kind of a unique middle ground between solid form and liquid form, which gives them the movement and flexibility of a liquid; but can also let them remain in place, like a solid. Heat can quickly melt a solid to liquid, allowing it to move, whereas cool will make the liquid solidify almost instantly. The sensitivity of liquid crystals to temperature can be an advantage, or a disadvantage. It allows for the highly successful use of liquid crystals in devices like thermometers, where temperature responsiveness is a boon; but this same property can unfortunately make LCD screens unreliable in extreme climates.

In an LCD screen, electric currents work at a microscopic level to control the amount of light that passes through the liquid crystal molecules that make up the moving layer of the screen, which is sandwiched between clear glass panels. The currents can force the naturally twisted molecules to unwind or coil tighter, thereby changing the amount of light that can pass from the bulb behind the glass to the eye of the viewer. It may help you understand this process by imagining that light filters through an LCD screen the same way that sunlight filters through the leaves of a tree. Now, imagine that the tree is being blown in the wind, and you will see that the amount and placement of the light that comes through the leaves changes. This is very similar to the dynamic that powers an LCD screen, except that the sun is a small light bulb, the leaves are molecules of liquid crystal, and the wind is made up of electric currents sent by the computer and designed to create a specific light pattern that your eye will interpret as words or images. <bio>Gray Rollins is a featured writer for BuyLCDScreens.
A naturally-occurring hot springs settles on the bottom of the ocean floor, in a similar way as the Old Faithful spouts off every so often at Yosemite National Park in the U.S. In the same way, these black smokers on the ocean floor release gases that bubble up inside the ocean, far away from anyone's view. These structures are chimney-like and are made up of sulfur-bearing minerals or sulfides formed by the Earth's crust. These sulfide minerals crystallize onto volcanic rocks where the hot mineral-rich water flows from the ground. Scuba divers often see these black smokers and become frightened upon first sight, yet if they are experienced and knowledgeable divers they know what to expect. These natural phenomenons are really quite beautiful to behold.

Black Smokers: A Fascinating Natural Occurence

When the water spouts out of this chimney-like shape it appears black in color because of it mixing with the cold ocean water. This is why it was given the name black smoker. The place where black smokers tend to occur is on top of sulfide mounds, which are piles of minerals which build up over time. The size of these mounds can be as large as a tennis court or as small as a pool table. Sometimes, they are given names such as Garden of Eden, Snake Pit or Beehives. These black smokers occur along the midocean ridges and many different vents have been discovered around the Galapagos Islands in recent years. These deep-sea hydrothermal vents are located on ridges most often, but not exclusively.

There is ongoing research being conducted around ocean basins which can cause the black smokers to form. Expeditions go to collect samples and to run tests to find out exactly how and where these vents occur. Heat and chemical mass come from deep within the Earth and are transferred by these deep sea vents. Understanding this process is critical in trying to help our planet in many ways. Vast ecosystems are supported upon these black smokers and are fascinating to explore and understand as well. The energy source is not from sunlight, as the smokers are on the bottom of the ocean floor and receive no light, thus it is important to study how life forms in this environment. Much can be gleaned from the studying life in the ocean depths for enhancing our own population and ecosystem on the Earth's land. <bio>Ann Merier writes articles about family health, house and garden Topics.
The ocean is a popular vacation spot for many, but who would've ever imagined that it could actually be good for you and your family? In addition to providing endless seashell hunting excursions, breathtaking photo opportunities and priceless memories, the beach may actually help to reduce stress. This factor, alone, makes it a wonderful place for you to spend your vacation.

Experts agree that the sound of ocean waves is relaxing and may, therefore, be able to help reduce both stress and blood pressure. As if that weren't incentive enough, the sun is thought to have the ability to actually improve your mood. In fact, many people find themselves feeling a little blue during the cold winter months when the sun is nowhere to be seen, which is why the invention of a sun lamp has made so many homeowners happy during the winter. When you visit the beach, you can enjoy the sound of rippling waves as the sun literally helps to brighten your day.

Did you know that certain scents are considered to be relaxing? Among them, lavender, vanilla and even coconut. The latter may be reminiscent of an afternoon at the beach, which could help to relax your mood. If you're at the beach, take the time to breathe in the ocean air and experience a feeling of true paradise.

Believe it or not, a vacation at the beach may also be your answer to weight loss. Two of the most common things that beach goers do is to swim in the ocean and walk along the shore. Swimming is a popular exercise, as is walking. Either of these activities could impact your weight, especially if you do them often.

If you aren't able to get to the beach, don't fret. You can get some of the same benefits without having to travel. A tabletop water feature, such as a fountain, is relatively inexpensive and can relax you with the sound of flowing water. If it's the scent of the ocean that you're after, consider using a shampoo or body lotion that is designed with an ocean scent. If you would love nothing better than a swim, consider investing in a pool for your backyard.

The information contained in this article is designed to be used for reference purposes only.
The Indian Ocean Lodge is situated on the west coast of Praslin, and the hotel stands on a prime site on Grand Anse, the island's longest beach. The hotel nestles amongst mature Takamaka trees and colourful tropical plants just a few steps from the sea. The 32 rooms are arranged in eight separate units.

Whilst we loved the Indian Ocean Lodge Seychelles on the island of Praslin, you have to be careful when you visit. From May until December because of the prevailing wind you may find the beach covered in washed up seaweed. Although this does get cleaned off, it can spoil your photographs of what is essentially a barefoot tropical paradise on one of the best beaches in the world.

Apart from this we found the hotel in a beautiful situation, it was very intimate, and quite sumptious.

It was completely made over a number of years ago, which has obviously made a huge difference.

The situation on Grand Anse is almost perfect, because it is a huge beach of powder white sand, in fact picture perfect. My belief is that Praslin is as beautiful a place as you could wish for a vacation. My advice is to get off mahe, and stay on one of the outer or inner islands, and of all of them, Praslin is my favourite. I first visited over twenty years ago, and unlike many other vacation spots I could name, it is still recognisable today.

The main memory I shall bring home are the four poster beds, and the enormous showers with double heads, and tons of water!! This is not to forget the unforgettable views from the balcony, and the high quality catering, which is the real key to a great vacation in paradise.

If you want to see photographs then go to http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com/articles/9/1/Indian-Ocean-Lodge-Seychelles/Page1.html Please note the hotel is next to a small village, and it is very easy to pop on the local bus.

We loved it, go and try it for yourself <bio>Ian Smith writes about lots of destinations for http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com </bio>

You may have considered purchasing property in Costa Rica. The ocean front property in Costa Rica is a tropical like paradise. If you are considering it I recommend you read this article to help shed some light on the issues involved in buying beach front property in Costa Rica. Costa Rica beaches are one of the most beautiful in the world.

One of the advantages of living in Costa Rica is the stable and peaceful government that encourages US citizens to come here and retire. Overall, Costa Rican's are lovely people and make you feel at home. The crime rate is very low, and during the 15 years I have lived here I haven't had any problems.

Have you thought about making the giant leap and purchasing ocean front property as a second home or an investment? During the past 5 years real estate has been increasing at a remarkable 18 - 30 % per year. How do you invest in Costa Rica ocean front properties? Read on, and I'll share my thoughts on the guidelines to buying ocean front property anywhere else in Costa Rica.

Here's one current example of one the best deals for beach front property that is 38 (plus acres) that could be developed as urbanization or your own personal estate. http://www.Ocean-Front-Property-Costa-Rica.com

There are only two ways to go about buying ocean front property in Costa Rica? The wrong way, and my way. Based on my experience of living here in Costa Rica for the last 15 years. Here's my thoughts:

- Make sure the area your looking at is a place you would like to vacation at. It's a good idea to search the online forums and interest groups. If you plan on making a large purchase then spend a few days in the area to see if it is the right place for you. You will get a more in depth idea if you spend more time there. You don't want to in your "tropical dream paradise" regretting that you've done it.

-	Find a competent lawyer to represent your interests. Do not get a referral from the seller or real estate agent. Always find your own lawyer to manage your purchase. It is common sense, but important nonetheless. Try to find one that speaks your language fluently and has considerable knowledge of maritime zone law. -	Costa Rican maritime law is different in every Central American country and you need to know all of the details before purchasing ocean front property in Costa Rica.

- Look around and make contact with the owners of the property. Professional real-estate agents like Century 21 are going to cost a little more than if you purchased directly from the owner. If you're comfortable with the risk then I recommend looking for the owners directly. The risks are slightly higher when dealing with the owner, but the cost savings will be significant. Your lawyer will make sure you are buying is legitimate.

- ACT FAST! Don't hurry, but act fast. Land prices are on the rise, and not showing signs of slowing down any time soon. Once your sure, act. The current owner may have second thoughts and want to renegotiate or may not want to sell. Be patient, but act quickly.

- NEGOTIATE DIRECTLY WITH THE OWNER!! I'll write it one more time. Negotiate directly with the owner. I can't stress this enough. Always, always negotiate directly with the owner.

- Get a topographer to do a recent survey the land. The owner will have a "plano catestrado", but you will need to make your own survey to verify the location and size of your property. You want to make sure your getting what you paid for.

- Compare prices and value with other sellers and other properties in the same region of Costa Rica. There are different beaches in Costa Rica and each one has its own environment. Look around and find one that's right for you.

The best of luck in your search for your beach front property in Costa Rica! <bio>Sean has been living in Costa Rica for the last 10 years. Love for the Country and beach make him a reliable source for information for ocean front property in Costa Rica. http://www.Ocean-Front-Property-Costa-Rica.com </bio>

The Indian Ocean Beach Club is located on a powder white sand beach south of Mombasa, and surrounded by swaying coconut palm groves, and old baobabs.

It isn't the kind of hotel that is all too popular nowadays, all singing all dancing, disco, high rise, bland, huge, the could be anywhere type of place.

The Indian Ocean Beach Club has been built to attract honeymooners, and romantics, and to recreate a sadly bygone age where service and opulence reigned.

To an extent, they have succeeded, and we found the food, and service to be excellent, the rooms are old fashioned, spacious, and private.

The staff obviously work hard to maintain the high standards that visitors have already come to accept as the norm, and this is a credit to the management staff at the resort.

The Indian Ocean Beach Club is small, and small is beautiful, because you get the little touches missing in large hotels, like bringing round iced towels and fruit to your sunlounger, and the flags to raise on the beach if you wanted service. Even better the service arrived quickly!!

If you haven't been to Kenya before, be prepared for the hawkers outside the hotel grounds. You needn't worry on the hotel property itself. The whole hawker, beach boy thing has been very well policed by the hotel, who seem to have given a license to a reputable group at one end of the beach. They won't hassle you, instead you go to them, and haggle.

This means you can use the beautiful white sand beach to your heart's content, and the hawkers get to earn a living, and we certainly were happy with that arrangement.

A good thing to do is to pay extra for an ocean front cottage, which means you are literally right on the beach, with amazing views of the ocean.

The rooms were great with TV, air con, four-poster beds etc. The cottage was immaculate, very very clean and very comfy.

We enjoyed the food, which was delicious, especially the grill and afternoon tea, and the themed buffet nights.

The other thing we would recommend is that you stay at The Indian Ocean Beach Club for a few days, then spend a few days on safari, then come back, and spend a few more days at the Beach Club to round off your vacation.

Finally I suppose if you go expecting a European five-star experience you might be a bit disappointed with the little things, but remember that this is African five-star.

In conclusion I would thoroughly recommend the Indian Ocean Beach Club.

The food was great, the service was excellent and the accommodation superb.

Unless you have been spoiled rotten at places like the St Geran, I don't see how you can fail to have a great time there. <bio>Ian Smith travels extensively, and never pays the full brochure price, he does a lot of research before booking an hotel, and his opinions on the best worldwide vacation spots are now accepted by many people all over the world.
Interaction between the Earth's atmosphere and sun's heat is a never-ending process and is always a constant. Every part of the atmosphere doesn't get heated up equivalently at the same time. This in-equivalence makes the large masses of air to move about as an automatic response of the atmosphere to balance itself. The varied types of weather are a direct result of this mass movement of air.

The existing air mass in a region gets encountered that is already there when another air mass moves in. front is the boundary that is created between these two air masses. Cold front is when the cold air replaces the warm air and when cold front gets replaced, it is known as a warm front.

A cold air mass when encounters a warm front, the colder air get pushed below the warm front. Condensed water vapor changes into clouds when the warm front rises and cools down. Appearance of mid-level clouds follows high cirrus clouds. Mid-level cloud is followed by Thick stratus clouds. Precipitation and wind come next.

Often cold fronts produce weathers that are more volatile by nature. The warm air mass moves upward sharply when it comes in contact with a cold front. Convection and instability results due to this sharp upward movement. Along the front trigger storms and formation of large cumulus clouds. An area of strong winds and low-pressure zone gets created due to the quick rise in air. The actual front is accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain. After frontal passage come the persisting showers.

At times a cold front overtakes a generally slower moving warm front. The warm front gets pushed aloft the cold front when this happens. An occluded front is the line formed in-between the two fronts as they continue to move together. Light precipitation and Stratus clouds generally accompany the occluded fronts.

A stagnant area is formed when two air masses that are different but not strong enough to push and replace the other meet. Precipitation for a long time period accompanied by cloudy weather results in due to this stagnant situation. This stagnant front may as a warm or cold front begin to move or after a few days may dissipate. In summer the chances of occurrence of such stagnant fronts are higher.

More than 70% of the Earth's surface is covered by the oceans. Land surface doesn't cool down or heat up as quickly as the water surface and hence heat is efficiently stored in seawater. Due to this characteristic cold or warm water is carried to different parts of the globe by ocean currents. The temperature of the currents below affects the temperatures on the surface. Changes in temperatures of the sea alter climates. It affects more effectively the climate of the coastal region.

In the few weeks around the summer and winter solstices the maximum and minimum sea temperatures legs because of the slow heating and cooling nature of water. The weather is affected by the variation in sea and land temperatures that gets heightened due to this lag. As a result large portions of the water surface may experience fogs and the weather in the coastal region might be cooler.

In the air the water vapor gets condensed to form clouds that eventually as precipitation falls down on the Earth surface. The whole process starts all over again as most of it goes back to the oceans after a small portion of it gets absorbed by snow and rain. <bio>Eric Slarkowski frequently edits publications on subjects dealing with Moraira and Gandia. With people wishing to escape the hustle-bustle of the daily life, these relaxing fishing vacations are a great way to can get closer to nature.

Salmon is common along the Alaskan coast. So is giant halibut. Visitors can also catch salmon weighing up to 50 pounds. King salmon over 50 pounds are not at all uncommon. Grayling and northern pike are easy to catch in many inland streams. Other varieties of fish, like grayling and northern pike, are easy to catch in many inland streams. And you can fish amid some of the most incredible scenery on the continent.

To be sure, it's not perfect. The productivity of most Alaska streams is not high in comparison with those in warmer climes. This means that some heavily fished streams do not quickly produce many large fish, particularly in the Interior. Large salmon runs compensate in many streams, however.

The extreme tides and ocean currents surrounding Alaska creates ideal habitats for baitfish, which in turn attract returning salmon and bottom fish in astounding numbers. Alaska promotes fishing as its main sporting event. Large numbers of tourists visit the place to take part in this adventurous sport. South-central Alaska is home to the most famous fishing areas in the state. Coastal waters and watersheds embody the place with varied land and seascapes. In addition to salmon and halibut, other fish like trout, pike, grayling, Dolly Varden, burbot, whitefish and other species can be found year-round in the many watersheds that form the main tourist attractions.

Southeast Alaska, sometimes called the "panhandle," is a land of deep fjords, rushing mountain streams and glaciers. Much of the land is in the Tongass National Forest. Summers are cool and moist; winters are cooler and snowy, but much less cold than portions of Alaska not warmed by the ocean. Salmon return in large numbers to thousands of streams. Halibut move into near shore waters in the summer. Several species of trout are available. A variety of bottom fish can be caught. Shrimp and crab can be found in some waters.

Lower Cook Inlet is also a popular fishing destination in the summer months. Clams, halibut and salmon keep the anglers busy throughout the day. The Kuskokwim and Yukon rivers drain most of Interior, Arctic and Western Alaska, which is sparsely covered by trees. Grayling are most widespread in the region, along with trout, pike, burbot, char and shellfish.

It is advisable that first-time visitors should have a professional guide to advise them. It is always wise to visit the place as part of a guided tour, which will provide all necessary fishing equipment. <bio>Enjoy your Alaska fishing vacation. http://www.fishingvacation.alaskasalmonfishingdirectory.com </bio>
